- 0:01Speaker 1: Helloa lower lower lower.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Low for all you med bastards loving the Big Show podcast,
- 0:08Speaker 2: Get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and ticked off
- 0:12Speaker 2: for raw targets four.
- 0:14Speaker 1: To seven every weekday on radio.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Recond so good and get everyone you're listening to the
- 0:23Speaker 3: Big Show obviously, And obviously we're at Bevana and we've
- 0:28Speaker 3: just arrived and we're coming towards the end of the
- 0:32Speaker 3: first session Fuels, which I believe finishes up.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Around three point thirty, and we.
- 0:38Speaker 5: Walked into a tide of very schemed people.
- 0:44Speaker 6: Well, the interesting thing is the morning session finishes at
- 0:47Speaker 6: three point thirty and then the evening session starts at six.
- 0:51Speaker 1: So as we arrive, everyone's wasted and then.
- 0:53Speaker 6: They get pushed out and then a fresh group of
- 0:55Speaker 6: non wasted people come in.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And then they get wasted. Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 7: The first thing we walked into was a howl in
- 1:02Speaker 7: northerly blown at about one hundred k.
- 1:04Speaker 6: That was absurd. I genuinely have never been in a
- 1:07Speaker 6: wind that strong. Is that standard for Wellington?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Standard for Wellington? That it's outrageous? Yeah?
- 1:13Speaker 4: I noticed keys.
- 1:14Speaker 7: That's way an awklad when they're going about Oh hebby
- 1:17Speaker 7: Gale's thirty K's.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Weather bombs is fucking yeah.
- 1:22Speaker 5: This is nothing in oneing in city man, Well like
- 1:24Speaker 5: because you've got sore ears now, as my ears.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Were pretty cold from the wind there.
- 1:28Speaker 6: But the other day, I think it was Saturday night,
- 1:30Speaker 6: there was a wind so strong over night out west
- 1:32Speaker 6: and Orphans that the portaloo at the building.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Site nearby blew over.
- 1:36Speaker 6: But it was half as strong as the one today,
- 1:39Speaker 6: So there must be portaloos everywhere.
- 1:40Speaker 5: Having said that, that's well, but they've got that's probably
- 1:43Speaker 5: the same night that I had the.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Bale hail storm.
- 1:47Speaker 7: No, I think the difference with the portalo's down here
- 1:49Speaker 7: is you get those from Charlie gubb Gas portaloos.
- 1:54Speaker 1: They don't blow over, mate, And.
- 1:55Speaker 5: Aren't they when you get them? They're half full of poos, yes,
- 1:59Speaker 5: as like a ballast.
- 2:00Speaker 7: That's the that supporter king promise, Yes, how full of poos.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Just to keep it rouses to the ground.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I'll tell you what. When we flew in this morning,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I was like, this.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Is a classic Wellington days.
- 2:13Speaker 5: She was a bit blustery, a but wet, gray, a
- 2:15Speaker 5: bit miserable and it was great to be back fellas.
- 2:19Speaker 6: Really, oh yeah, so good, so good as soon as
- 2:22Speaker 6: we landed, I was like, fuck me, it is so
- 2:25Speaker 6: much colder and windier and more miserable.
- 2:27Speaker 7: I didn't find it that cold cold, but it's certainly
- 2:30Speaker 7: windy and shitout.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 6: And because do you remember when we had that terrible
- 2:35Speaker 6: summer where it was just raining? Was this another winter?
- 2:37Speaker 6: For some reason, I'm picturing that Wellington is like that
- 2:40Speaker 6: all the time.
- 2:44Speaker 7: Yeah, It's one of those things that can be sunny,
- 2:46Speaker 7: but it will be blowing, and so it goes, it goes.
- 2:49Speaker 1: This is how it goes.
- 2:50Speaker 7: Okay, this winter, Yeah, howling southerlyes so straight off Antarctica.
- 2:56Speaker 7: Oh god, five seven eight degrees spring, the wind moves
- 3:01Speaker 7: around to the northwest. In the spring, you get a
- 3:04Speaker 7: northwestern gale one hundred, one hundred and twenty kilometers an
- 3:07Speaker 7: hour that will blow all the way through all summer,
- 3:09Speaker 7: and that'll sw mover a bit father around to a northerly.
- 3:12Speaker 7: Then you might get a period of maybe one to
- 3:15Speaker 7: two weeks in February February March where you might get
- 3:20Speaker 7: no wind at all. Wow, and it might be pissing
- 3:22Speaker 7: down but it might not be windows And you get
- 3:24Speaker 7: the odd day of sun and beautiful and it is
- 3:27Speaker 7: fucking stunning with it is, but I'd rather take the
- 3:30Speaker 7: eighty days of sunshine that I get an awkward yes
- 3:34Speaker 7: without wind. Then there sort of the five. And this
- 3:37Speaker 7: is coming from somebody loves Wellington. But if you love,
- 3:39Speaker 7: if you live in Wellington, you have to apologize for it.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So oh, no, you that it's all good.
- 3:43Speaker 7: No, Wellington's good, but when you move you find out, no,
- 3:47Speaker 7: Wellington's not all good. The weather is unacceptably poor, yes,
- 3:51Speaker 7: unacceptably and it's a great city with great people. I
- 3:55Speaker 7: love it, but the weather just fuck it. Hell, I'll
- 3:58Speaker 7: tell you what. There's some handried scumbags here and I
- 4:00Speaker 7: don't want to be negative, but.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Fell fellas in terms of the sessions you as an
- 4:08Speaker 5: ordinary punty, what session.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Are you aiming at for Beervanner? Well, I don't like
- 4:12Speaker 1: a late night, so i'd be here in the morning.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Yeah, morning session.
- 4:15Speaker 7: And I would be morning session. I guess what it's
- 4:18Speaker 7: interesting about those places. I'm trying to decide what it
- 4:22Speaker 7: is that I'm dealing with. I think maybe it's because
- 4:24Speaker 7: it's a huge crowd of everyone being hammered that it
- 4:28Speaker 7: makes it look sort of unattractive.
- 4:31Speaker 6: Sure, what what do you mean unattractive, like you're not
- 4:34Speaker 6: that keen to be a part of it.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Well in the sense that everybody that's hammered is unattractive.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Oh that's because that dudes.
- 4:40Speaker 5: I you see the end of issue with the morning session,
- 4:44Speaker 5: of course, because you're talking about a late night beermogi.
- 4:47Speaker 4: You do the morning session, you know, well and good.
- 4:49Speaker 1: That's not where it ends.
- 4:50Speaker 7: No, it's true, but it ends sooner than it would
- 4:52Speaker 7: if I started at five or six?
- 4:54Speaker 1: What times it's that sex? Sex?
- 4:56Speaker 7: Yes, you know I'm going to the wis small as
- 4:59Speaker 7: we sat even, Yes, I don't hope to be done
- 5:02Speaker 7: by midnight.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I'd go morning sessions that I could watch the Warriors
- 5:05Speaker 1: at eight.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Yeah, but he wouldn't stop though, What do you mean,
- 5:09Speaker 5: I mean you carry on with the morning session while
- 5:12Speaker 5: watching the Warriors.
- 5:13Speaker 1: One hundred percent?
- 5:14Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right, to be honest, I don't know if
- 5:16Speaker 6: I'm much of a beer festibal kind of guy.
- 5:20Speaker 4: But you've already had four beers, I know.
- 5:22Speaker 1: But I'm on the I'm on the right now, right, Yeah,
- 5:25Speaker 1: you know what I mean.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Like, I'm very much loving being here for work, but
- 5:27Speaker 6: I'm not sure if i'm a like buy a ticket
- 5:29Speaker 6: and go to a beer festival kind of guy at
- 5:31Speaker 6: the weekend.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I'd rather just go to the pub. Sure, put some
- 5:33Speaker 1: footy on and you know.
- 5:35Speaker 6: Some CCR and get a jug of your finest cheapest except.
- 5:40Speaker 1: When it comes to be a van. I mean, yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 1: it's a bloody great event.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Actually, I'm just wondering if they still have the lobster rolls.
- 5:49Speaker 7: Yeah, just managed to get a bite last year if
- 5:51Speaker 7: I remember. In fact, I think Pak said to give
- 5:53Speaker 7: you had to give you his one. That's right, yes,
- 5:56Speaker 7: something like that.
- 5:57Speaker 1: That was bullshit.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Actually, maybe we'll speak to Pats and see there's any lobster.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Roll action going on.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Incidentally, do we get any sort of free stuff? Do we?
- 6:07Speaker 4: Because we used to get a bed? Is that happening?
- 6:10Speaker 4: Pugsy pugsn Pugs, pug Son, come on.
- 6:14Speaker 7: Will be getting some free stuff at some points. Last time,
- 6:19Speaker 7: I remember somebody came over and they gave us a
- 6:22Speaker 7: quite potent beer. Remember that it was at nine party.
- 6:26Speaker 7: It was not, but they had one that was another
- 6:29Speaker 7: percent stronger than that. They also had one that had
- 6:32Speaker 7: chili shot in it.
- 6:34Speaker 1: We did like a chili drinking last year. Either, you
- 6:37Speaker 1: don't turn it around.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Mage what's happened to you? Man?
- 6:40Speaker 7: Yeah, you're right, let's start drinking. I mean, hey, this
- 6:44Speaker 7: is going to be part of the problem.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And that's the thing. If you passed up, you don't
- 6:47Speaker 1: see it.
- 6:48Speaker 7: Yeah, you can't see it because you're a goddamn beatb Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Your keys of the world just disappeared.
- 6:57Speaker 6: Remember the big show podcast of the Hodiking being shown podcast.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I went to.
- 7:03Speaker 6: There was a beer festival Early Doors in christ Church.
- 7:06Speaker 6: This will be over ten years ago that I was
- 7:08Speaker 6: working at. And it was basically you you buy a
- 7:10Speaker 6: ticket and then you get a goblet you walk around
- 7:13Speaker 6: with that and similar to this. But I'm pretty sure
- 7:17Speaker 6: I remember all the beers being free. Sure maybe that's me. Yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 6: those Early Doors beer festivals and you really got a
- 7:27Speaker 6: skinful and the beating down sun responsibly.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It was great. Do I say responsibly on the podcast?
- 7:33Speaker 1: I don't think so. Nah, they're responsibly, yes.
- 7:38Speaker 5: But I'm interested too to see how they because that
- 7:42Speaker 5: the people listening, As you can imagine, it's pretty packed.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Most of the people.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Here esteemed just how they corral everyone out of the joint.
- 7:51Speaker 7: At Yeah, well they stopped feeding them purse at three thirty. Yeah,
- 7:55Speaker 7: and then the it's not so much that you're trying
- 7:58Speaker 7: to get rid of them. You don't really need to
- 7:59Speaker 7: because they want the next beer. Sure, and so they
- 8:02Speaker 7: sort of go off on their own, their own adventure,
- 8:05Speaker 7: their own mission to find the next beer.
- 8:07Speaker 5: They stagger off and they do Adie mirl and our Gail,
- 8:10Speaker 5: I recall it took.
- 8:11Speaker 1: A while for them to but they'll be walking with
- 8:14Speaker 1: the wind behind them.
- 8:15Speaker 4: That's true.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So that's a plus. Yes, my wife, of course, my wife.
- 8:20Speaker 7: It's not on the podcast, fellows please, we're meant that
- 8:24Speaker 7: they were meant to be coming down as well, but
- 8:26Speaker 7: they were flying in the afternoon. And so far, my
- 8:28Speaker 7: wife arrived at the airport for a two thirty flight,
- 8:32Speaker 7: and in the fifteen minutes she's been at the airport,
- 8:34Speaker 7: she's been to lay two hours, yeah, three thirty to
- 8:38Speaker 7: four forty four forty to five forty Yeah. I cannot
- 8:43Speaker 7: I can't see it happening. But you said that there's
- 8:45Speaker 7: no canceled flights on the board, but.
- 8:47Speaker 6: That was oh, that's true. So I don't know when
- 8:52Speaker 6: was the last Wellington flight that departed up.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I couldn't tell you. I couldn't tell you so yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 1: it might be that by himself. Ah, yeah, you know
- 9:02Speaker 1: what you do is get on it.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I'll tell you what I'm going to do is I'm
- 9:04Speaker 7: just going to have a luxurious bath, immense, nice sleep. Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 7: and don't have to worry about waking up in the
- 9:11Speaker 7: middle of the night having to drink of water and
- 9:12Speaker 7: waking my wife up. She's always banging on about that. Yes,
- 9:17Speaker 7: she's banging on about me drinking water in the middle
- 9:19Speaker 7: of the night. She's like, do you drink much water?
- 9:21Speaker 7: This is last night. Do you drink much water during
- 9:23Speaker 7: the day? Yes, yeah, because you drink quite a lot
- 9:27Speaker 7: during the night. So, yeah, I get thirty, I'll get
- 9:30Speaker 7: a dry mouth. Oh do you have you tried breathing
- 9:34Speaker 7: through your nose?
- 9:37Speaker 1: The no shit.
- 9:37Speaker 7: I'm like, I've got a block nose, so I can't.
- 9:40Speaker 7: I have to breathe through my mouth. She goes, you
- 9:43Speaker 7: could drink like you maybe could have a glass of water,
- 9:45Speaker 7: because I have a bottle. So I said, I said,
- 9:48Speaker 7: a glass isn't big enough because I drink. I drink
- 9:50Speaker 7: the whole bottle sometimes. Oh yeah, well, at least you've
- 9:53Speaker 7: taken the lid off it now, so I don't have
- 9:54Speaker 7: to listen to your takings, just fucking roasting me. And
- 9:57Speaker 7: now she can't come to Wellington and that's what she gets.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Yeah, it's that powet injustice.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I was so funny because I got up.
- 10:04Speaker 5: I got up really really really of course today and
- 10:08Speaker 5: and I've taken to put in my clothes in the
- 10:10Speaker 5: spare room.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Now, oh come on, you know, be a good bas Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:15Speaker 5: And I was as quiet as a mouse this morning,
- 10:18Speaker 5: very quiet pedma shower got changed and I was walking
- 10:21Speaker 5: into our bathroom the old sweep.
- 10:25Speaker 1: And my wife.
- 10:26Speaker 5: My wife said to me, don't bother I'm awake. And
- 10:30Speaker 5: I was like, I've done everything in my power to
- 10:33Speaker 5: be silent.
- 10:35Speaker 7: Yeah, there's another way to frame their day. Yeah, there's
- 10:37Speaker 7: another way to frame that, which is not don't bother it.
- 10:41Speaker 7: So I'm awake, it's all good, yes, yeah yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 4: And I was like, well, I mean, it's not like
- 10:46Speaker 4: I'm not trying, darling.
- 10:48Speaker 1: So and then I.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Sort of snuggled up and I was like, gain to willing.
- 10:55Speaker 1: If you met keasy.
- 10:56Speaker 6: Yeah, man, I did the same thing. I put my
- 10:58Speaker 6: clothes in the hallway, so you just walk out in the bedroom.
- 11:02Speaker 6: I don't have an on suite.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Sorry, jas No, I have a spear room. So my
- 11:06Speaker 1: parents are in the spare room last night, so it
- 11:09Speaker 1: would have been weird if you went and then I
- 11:10Speaker 1: got changed in front of them.
- 11:11Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly, I've seen little keysroom.
- 11:15Speaker 1: So I walk out into the hallway naked and naked.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Quarter it of five.
- 11:19Speaker 6: I sleep naked, Jason quarter to five. My stuff's sitting
- 11:22Speaker 6: in the back of my head. I'm like, shit, I
- 11:24Speaker 6: hope mom and Dad don't get up and go to
- 11:25Speaker 6: the toilet right now, because I'm standing there bet down
- 11:28Speaker 6: picking up like my stuff with your massive semi, with
- 11:31Speaker 6: my huge sibmi. And then I walk into the bathroom
- 11:34Speaker 6: and I have a shower and I'm like shaving, and
- 11:36Speaker 6: then I hear the spare room door open and oh,
- 11:39Speaker 6: here we go, which one of my parents is at
- 11:40Speaker 6: It's five am, And my dad comes into the bathroom.
- 11:43Speaker 1: He goes, hey, can I use the bathroom?
- 11:45Speaker 6: And he's a fully dressed in the shirt, jeans, socks,
- 11:49Speaker 6: and I'm like, yeah, you getting up because I know
- 11:51Speaker 6: I'll go back to a bit. And I'm like, I
- 11:54Speaker 6: didn't ask because it was way too early, but I
- 11:55Speaker 6: was like, do you either sleep in there or you.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Get fully dressed to walk the three you meets to
- 12:00Speaker 1: the Do you need to buy him akimono? How funny?
- 12:04Speaker 1: Don't know? Hey, fellas, should we wrap it up there?
- 12:08Speaker 1: What are you reackon? She's gone there? Why not that
- 12:12Speaker 1: she gave me my first ever job in film? Really?
- 12:16Speaker 1: Oh well, so when you started that? What she gave
- 12:21Speaker 1: me my first?
- 12:23Speaker 6: Hey? Listen to the Hockey Big Show four to seven,
- 12:25Speaker 6: especially today from beer Barna.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Even though this comes out after the show, Yeah, I reckon,
- 12:29Speaker 1: but check it out. It's really good. I'll tell you what.
- 12:31Speaker 7: Man, if you're into your beer's and getting hammered, this
- 12:33Speaker 7: is the place for you. I mean, responsibly. But it's
- 12:36Speaker 7: all on here over three hundred and I tell you
- 12:40Speaker 7: what I did see. I saw a fantastic pie bending
- 12:43Speaker 7: little stall. They do look good.
- 12:49Speaker 4: I haven't seen pad Son since he's gone off to
- 12:51Speaker 4: love Hobby's.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Okay, see yeah, see next week right out
