- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. Everybody, Welcome to the NFL l
- 0:19Speaker 1: a newsroom for NFL Now on this Thursday on Patrick
- 0:22Speaker 1: clayb on Thursday being a significant day here on NFL
- 0:25Speaker 1: Network because we have the edition of the East West
- 0:28Speaker 1: Shrine Bowl, which you can see tonight eight thirty pm
- 0:31Speaker 1: Eastern right here on NFL Network. Of course, not the
- 0:34Speaker 1: only bowl game that we are looking forward to. We're
- 0:37Speaker 1: looking forward to the Super Bowl, super Bowl fifty seven
- 0:41Speaker 1: coming up on Sunday, February twelve, and it's gonna be
- 0:45Speaker 1: the Chiefs taking on the Eagles. Yes, all the principal players,
- 0:49Speaker 1: they're smoldering, giving some looks other than Darius like he's
- 0:53Speaker 1: having a good time. But looking forward to Super Bowl
- 0:56Speaker 1: fifties seven, where the Chiefs have nineteen guys with Super
- 0:59Speaker 1: Bowl experience. There are eight Eagles who won the Super
- 1:03Speaker 1: Bowl in one of them at the podium today, Brandon Graham,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I'm in your thirteen and finally got double digits this year.
- 1:14Speaker 1: You know, I'm contributing to help the team as much
- 1:18Speaker 1: as I can. So you know that's been the best
- 1:20Speaker 1: for me because it's just you know, who would have
- 1:23Speaker 1: thought in the year thirteen, I will still be here
- 1:26Speaker 1: after we won the Super Bowl, uh, that first time,
- 1:29Speaker 1: and then how things went last year with me tearing
- 1:32Speaker 1: mice here, I mean my Achilles and now coming off
- 1:35Speaker 1: the Achilles and having one of my best years. And
- 1:38Speaker 1: and I'm not even playing half to half the snaps
- 1:41Speaker 1: that I ever played. I mean that I've been playing,
- 1:43Speaker 1: um being previous. So I would just say that's the
- 1:46Speaker 1: difference for me is just you know, according to year
- 1:48Speaker 1: thirteam and making it with a team like this. Let's
- 1:53Speaker 1: welcome in our Stacy Dls for more on these Eagles,
- 1:56Speaker 1: Stacy are Good morning to you. How Nick Sirianni preparing
- 2:00Speaker 1: this team considering the magnitude of what's to come on
- 2:04Speaker 1: the twelve Yeah, Patrick, good morning to you, and good
- 2:07Speaker 1: afternoon to everybody on the Central and East coast. Now. Uh,
- 2:11Speaker 1: he's preparing him like he has all season long, and
- 2:13Speaker 1: you're gonna hear a word from him as we get
- 2:15Speaker 1: ready for this Super Bowl. At his process, it's the
- 2:17Speaker 1: Philly process, and it's something that he has really infused
- 2:22Speaker 1: into his team from the beginning. Nick Sirianni. And there's
- 2:25Speaker 1: three things that he goes about each day. He wants
- 2:27Speaker 1: his players not to go one and know each week,
- 2:29Speaker 1: but to go one and know each day. One of
- 2:31Speaker 1: those things is practicing with a high, high intensity. They've
- 2:34Speaker 1: done that all year, they did it leading up to
- 2:36Speaker 1: their massive NFC Championship performance last week. And the second
- 2:41Speaker 1: one is detail in your job description and meeting, so
- 2:44Speaker 1: be be locked in there. And the third one is
- 2:46Speaker 1: speed to the snap and walk through. So all really
- 2:49Speaker 1: important things. Now here's the one part about it. Distractions
- 2:52Speaker 1: are such a big part of the Super Bowl, right Patrick,
- 2:54Speaker 1: And obviously the Eagles dealing with a very ugly and
- 2:57Speaker 1: horrifying distraction this week with their rookie offensive lineman uh
- 3:02Speaker 1: Josh Sills who's no longer on the active roster Commissioner
- 3:05Speaker 1: exempt list, uh, But handling those types of things internally,
- 3:09Speaker 1: but on a bigger scale heading into this Super Bowl
- 3:12Speaker 1: week and what will become of the media and the
- 3:14Speaker 1: distractions surrounding these players in the nucleus of this team.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And so for Nick Serriani, the next game is always
- 3:21Speaker 1: the biggest game, but he wants his players to eliminate
- 3:25Speaker 1: distractions daily and that's at practice this week so that
- 3:28Speaker 1: they can go one to know each day to win
- 3:30Speaker 1: the ultimate prize in their goal, which is obviously Super
- 3:32Speaker 1: Bowl fifty seven. And it's something that they've been able
- 3:35Speaker 1: to manage all season, especially on offense stacy, where they
- 3:38Speaker 1: can beat teams in so many different ways. How are
- 3:40Speaker 1: they able to do that? Oh, my goodness, you just
- 3:42Speaker 1: said at Patrick, It's just been really impressive to watch
- 3:46Speaker 1: on the full scale, right, the totality, the volume of
- 3:51Speaker 1: what they've put together. Because as Jalen Hurts told us
- 3:53Speaker 1: in his press conference after the NFC Championship, they can
- 3:57Speaker 1: win on the ground, they can beat you through the air,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and he made a reference to the San Francisco forty
- 4:02Speaker 1: Niners and Damiko Ryan's and company. Uh, you know, trying
- 4:05Speaker 1: to take away those explosives. We're seeing one of those
- 4:07Speaker 1: right there. It wasn't a catch. Wasn't a catch. Um,
- 4:10Speaker 1: that's for Twitter to debate and continue to debate. Right,
- 4:14Speaker 1: But they take away those explosives because this is the
- 4:17Speaker 1: most explosive offensive team in terms of what they've been
- 4:20Speaker 1: able to accomplish in big plays this year. Uh. Patrick.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But then they've got the ground game and here's here
- 4:26Speaker 1: are the numbers. Okay, it's it's very simple. Through the
- 4:29Speaker 1: playoffs into two games, Patrick two hundred and eight rush
- 4:33Speaker 1: yards per game, seven rushing touchdowns, four of them last week,
- 4:37Speaker 1: three of them against the Giants in the Divisional round.
- 4:40Speaker 1: The great offensive line leads to the great uh combo blocks,
- 4:44Speaker 1: which leads to the bursts that we see from all
- 4:47Speaker 1: four of these runners. Jalen Hurts included, but it is Sanders, Gamewell,
- 4:51Speaker 1: and Scott. They have all made impacts at different times.
- 4:55Speaker 1: It'll be very interesting to see how they attack the
- 4:58Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs, who rank eighteenth in terms of their
- 5:01Speaker 1: past defense Patrick because teams have frankly tried to take
- 5:05Speaker 1: away their perimeter game. So they've beat him on the
- 5:07Speaker 1: ground and it's been a great solution. It really starts
- 5:10Speaker 1: with their quarterback and Jalen Hurts. Yeah, it's truly a
- 5:12Speaker 1: chess match to determine how Steve Spagnola approaches this Eagle's
- 5:15Speaker 1: offense and the guy, as you said, that makes it
- 5:17Speaker 1: all go and Jalen Hurts. In fact, Jalen Hurts just
- 5:20Speaker 1: now at the podium. So let's listen in Stacy, that's
- 5:22Speaker 1: what the quarterback has to say. Um, I'm getting there.
- 5:27Speaker 1: You know, I've made it clear this whole time that
- 5:30Speaker 1: it's been something I've been dealing with and you know,
- 5:33Speaker 1: getting there and give us a number. I can't. He's
- 5:39Speaker 1: getting better, you feel getting better with time? Yeah, you
- 5:51Speaker 1: know we uh, we we have a heck of opportunity
- 5:55Speaker 1: in front of us. In excuse me, we have a
- 5:58Speaker 1: heck of opportunity in front of us, and we've worked
- 6:01Speaker 1: really hard to be where we are now. So UM,
- 6:04Speaker 1: to have the opportunity is it's something that you earn,
- 6:07Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. It's it's something that you learn,
- 6:08Speaker 1: so you want to work really hard to take advantage
- 6:11Speaker 1: of it. Recently, a lot of examples and red quarter
- 6:15Speaker 1: gays guys, it's a super bowling it does. It's hard
- 6:19Speaker 1: to win that way. I guess like if someone with races,
- 6:22Speaker 1: how much pride you take? How do you stick on
- 6:25Speaker 1: a quarterback? Later? Yeah? I think every every every every
- 6:29Speaker 1: guy has a unique way of doing what they do. Um,
- 6:32Speaker 1: you're not going to turn on the TV and see
- 6:33Speaker 1: everybody playing the game the same way. So you know,
- 6:37Speaker 1: I don't necessarily take pride and playing a game in
- 6:40Speaker 1: a certain way. I just take pride and being who
- 6:42Speaker 1: I am, Um, you know if everybody does it different,
- 6:47Speaker 1: you know, and everybody has something different that makes them
- 6:50Speaker 1: specially and great, you know, but just try and go
- 6:53Speaker 1: out there and play the game to win. A few
- 6:57Speaker 1: years ago, I guess Rivers before how much you wouldn't
- 7:01Speaker 1: remember about him on that stage and talk all about
- 7:04Speaker 1: I have even I think any anyone like Mike Vick,
- 7:08Speaker 1: cam Randall, Cunningham, McNabb, all of those types of guys
- 7:12Speaker 1: are guys that, um, a lot of young kids looked
- 7:16Speaker 1: up to. Um, a lot of young black kids as well.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I mean Steve McNair, all of those guys. So, um, yeah,
- 7:24Speaker 1: what what do you intrusting the starting quarter back Super
- 7:27Speaker 1: Bowl where it's the first time. Yeah, I think it's history.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I think it's something that's worthy of being noted. And
- 7:35Speaker 1: it is history. You know, it's come a long way.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I think there's only been seven um, African American quarterbacks
- 7:40Speaker 1: to play in the Super Bowl. So, um, to be
- 7:44Speaker 1: the first for something, it's pretty cool. So I know,
- 7:46Speaker 1: to be a good Is there a moment Sunday night
- 7:49Speaker 1: after Kansas City one when you realize that there was
- 7:52Speaker 1: this historical significance with the Super Bowl? No, not to
- 7:56Speaker 1: everybody else start talking about it. But I think, um,
- 8:00Speaker 1: you know, it's it's it's history, and it's always uh
- 8:04Speaker 1: cool to be on a good good not necessarily good
- 8:07Speaker 1: or bad, but you know, be in history. I guess
- 8:09Speaker 1: I don't know what do you take away from the
- 8:12Speaker 1: first time you played against the Chiefs and it was
- 8:15Speaker 1: only like a year ago basically, but it was like
- 8:17Speaker 1: early in the season, maybe your fourth game as as
- 8:20Speaker 1: a full time starter, and just from where you were
- 8:23Speaker 1: then to where you are now. Yeah, I think, um,
- 8:27Speaker 1: you know, I think I had a really good team
- 8:29Speaker 1: last year. Um have a really good team this year. Um,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you know, I think in terms of us, we just
- 8:36Speaker 1: have to go out there and do kind of what
- 8:38Speaker 1: we've um done all year. Just go out there and
- 8:41Speaker 1: trying to execute at a high level. You know. We
- 8:43Speaker 1: know we have a huge challenge in front of us
- 8:45Speaker 1: with with what they do on defense and um the
- 8:48Speaker 1: front seven and how active they are up front. But
- 8:51Speaker 1: we want to just go out there and kind of
- 8:53Speaker 1: play clean, play clean. I think Jellen Hurts said there,
- 8:58Speaker 1: not trying to be proud of playing the game in
- 9:00Speaker 1: a particular way, just trying to be proud of the
- 9:02Speaker 1: way that he plays the game. Joining us now, I'm
- 9:05Speaker 1: Mark Raws and Brian Balding. What impresses you the most
- 9:08Speaker 1: about the way Hurts is playing this game right now? Well,
- 9:12Speaker 1: I've gotten to know him pretty good Patrick over the
- 9:14Speaker 1: last couple of years here in Philly, and I think
- 9:16Speaker 1: the thing that impresses me most is just his consistency
- 9:20Speaker 1: in his decision making. They has the quarterback to do
- 9:22Speaker 1: a lot in Philadelphia. They have learned a lot of RPOs,
- 9:24Speaker 1: run pass options. He's got to make that decision, decision
- 9:28Speaker 1: to run not run, decision to extend to play, make
- 9:31Speaker 1: the throw or run. Like his decision making has been
- 9:33Speaker 1: pretty good. And then with that um his ball security.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Decision making and ball security has been outstanding all year
- 9:40Speaker 1: in an offense where a lot of different guys touched
- 9:42Speaker 1: the ball in a variety of different ways. He always
- 9:46Speaker 1: seems to be in control and in command, just take
- 9:48Speaker 1: he is in his press conferences, and so that has
- 9:51Speaker 1: not changed from you know, the first game of the
- 9:54Speaker 1: season against Detroit all the way up until you know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: the NFC Championship game. He's been a great decision making,
- 10:00Speaker 1: a big decision maker, and that shows really a command
- 10:03Speaker 1: of the offense and what Nick can change Stike and
- 10:05Speaker 1: or trying to do. Yeah, well, you know, you can
- 10:12Speaker 1: go down a laundry list of positives with Jalen Hurts
- 10:16Speaker 1: and the things that impress you this year, but really
- 10:18Speaker 1: throughout his whole career, and as a former scout, I
- 10:21Speaker 1: always go back to the foundation of how they looked
- 10:23Speaker 1: in college and some of the concerns with Jalen Hurts
- 10:26Speaker 1: at Alabama why to really beat him out. He always
- 10:28Speaker 1: had the playmaking, the leadership, the running ability was that pocket,
- 10:33Speaker 1: quick decision making and delivery, quick release in the pocket,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and that was sort of the concerns even when coming
- 10:39Speaker 1: out of the draft, that was a little bit of
- 10:41Speaker 1: the concern of how quick he processed things and found
- 10:44Speaker 1: his first, second, third reads last year even a little
- 10:47Speaker 1: bit of those concerns, so coming into this year was
- 10:50Speaker 1: still that and he get better at those things, and
- 10:52Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts got tremendously better at just reading the defense,
- 10:57Speaker 1: making quick decisions and getting the ball out accurately. You know,
- 11:01Speaker 1: I really haven't seen a player, just the quarterback get
- 11:04Speaker 1: better so fast and a send so fast, the way
- 11:07Speaker 1: he works at it, the type of person he is,
- 11:10Speaker 1: you know, he would try to put in the work
- 11:11Speaker 1: and sort of get better at it. But for him
- 11:13Speaker 1: to just go from where it was a question mark
- 11:16Speaker 1: to now it's really a strength of his game. The command,
- 11:20Speaker 1: the vision, the decision making, the quickness of processing. That really,
- 11:24Speaker 1: to me is the most impressive part of how Jalen
- 11:27Speaker 1: Hurts has improved his game. Patrick and Baldy, and it's
- 11:30Speaker 1: really been impressive to see to go along with all
- 11:32Speaker 1: the other dynamic things that he does, real quick market
- 11:35Speaker 1: Pat just you know last week he met he had
- 11:37Speaker 1: tenny completions and he missed a couple of goal balls.
- 11:40Speaker 1: One was to a J. Brown against her various ward
- 11:43Speaker 1: and he's been hitting those passes all ye that this
- 11:46Speaker 1: week that he's going to work on those go balls
- 11:48Speaker 1: this week and when he comes to game time down
- 11:51Speaker 1: in uh Glendale, Arizona, I'd be surprised if they don't
- 11:54Speaker 1: connect on a couple of deep shots in that game.
- 11:57Speaker 1: You wonder what the impact the shoulder had, But at
- 11:59Speaker 1: least statistically twice as good. He had nine touchdowns, eight
- 12:04Speaker 1: inner options from inside of the pocket. In two he
- 12:07Speaker 1: had twenty touchdowns and four interceptions from inside of the pocket.
- 12:11Speaker 1: That's the type of improvement you see from somebody who
- 12:13Speaker 1: works on the game like Jalen Hurts does. We'll be
- 12:15Speaker 1: back with Mark Ross and Brian Baldinger as we continue
- 12:17Speaker 1: here on NFL. Now, let's talk for us. It's gonna
- 12:20Speaker 1: look at what's new right now. I'm gonna inside a
- 12:22Speaker 1: report from NFL Network insider Ian Rappaport, who's there in Mobile.
- 12:25Speaker 1: We got some coaching news going on. Ian. Let's start
- 12:29Speaker 1: in Indianapolis. What's the latest there? He has some more
- 12:33Speaker 1: hurry up and waiting for the Indianapolis coach there interviewing
- 12:35Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn for a second time. Of course, the Detroit
- 12:39Speaker 1: Lions defensive coordinator very well, respect It sounds like he
- 12:42Speaker 1: did really well the first time. He is there a
- 12:44Speaker 1: second time today, and then Shane stike In, the Ego's
- 12:47Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, expected to have a second interview later this week,
- 12:50Speaker 1: either Friday or Saturday, before the Egos head to the
- 12:53Speaker 1: Super Bowl, which you would think would mean that's time
- 12:57Speaker 1: for the coach to wrap it up, but you would
- 12:59Speaker 1: probably be wrong. According to Mike Garafoe and myself, the
- 13:02Speaker 1: coach are likely to do a third round of interviews,
- 13:05Speaker 1: which I think would be unpreceded. I have scoured the
- 13:07Speaker 1: Twitter escape and I've not seen any other team doing
- 13:10Speaker 1: a third round of interviews. So potentially they will have
- 13:13Speaker 1: two or three actual finalists and then pick a coach
- 13:17Speaker 1: at some point and probably the not very near future. Okay,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I mean, I know it's more work for you guys,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and let's go for five. Let's see how far the
- 13:24Speaker 1: Colts can go on this. I'm interested to see how
- 13:27Speaker 1: many can we do? Just win? Can it in? Let's
- 13:29Speaker 1: talk about Arizona. What's the latest on their coaching situation.
- 13:34Speaker 1: The Arizona Cardinals are interviewing Brian Callahan, the Bengals o C.
- 13:38Speaker 1: That is today, The interviewed LU and a room of
- 13:40Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator yesterday than Mike Cafco. The Giants o
- 13:44Speaker 1: C was earlier in the week, and that is all
- 13:47Speaker 1: right now. That is scheduled for the Arizona Cardinals. There
- 13:50Speaker 1: is a potential that they hire a coach at some
- 13:52Speaker 1: point before the Super Bowl week starts, maybe Friday, maybe Saturday.
- 13:57Speaker 1: There is also the possibility that they say, you know what,
- 13:59Speaker 1: because we're only eight days away from the Super Bowl ending,
- 14:02Speaker 1: because we've gone all this time, let's just wait and
- 14:05Speaker 1: if they decide to just wait, the two candidates they
- 14:07Speaker 1: would likely take a look at would be Shane styke
- 14:10Speaker 1: In the Eagles offensive coordinator, very well respected, and then
- 14:13Speaker 1: Jonathan Gannon, the defensive coordinator. Minderstanding it was Gannon with
- 14:17Speaker 1: someone they wanted to talk to if the Eagles had lost.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Obviously they did not. But if they wait, that is
- 14:22Speaker 1: where the direction that they would likely be heading. All right,
- 14:26Speaker 1: Interested to see how this shakes out after Super Bowl
- 14:28Speaker 1: fifty seven, to get more for me and Rappaport throughout
- 14:31Speaker 1: the day, looking ahead to recent Senior Bowl coming up Saturday,
- 14:35Speaker 1: right here on NFL Network. Thank you Ian down there
- 14:38Speaker 1: in Mobile. Hey yesterday you remember it was? It was
- 14:42Speaker 1: wasn't too long ago. Tom Brady finally called it a
- 14:44Speaker 1: career for good. Robert Kraft, the Patriots owner, already thinking
- 14:48Speaker 1: about him making an official as a New England Patriot.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Not only do I want it, our fans are clamoring
- 14:57Speaker 1: for it, and to us, he is, always has been,
- 15:01Speaker 1: and always will be a Patriot and we will be
- 15:04Speaker 1: bringing him back after I have not. I don't like
- 15:09Speaker 1: to make a commitment for him, but we will do
- 15:12Speaker 1: everything in our power to bring him back, have him
- 15:15Speaker 1: sign off as a patriot, and find ways to honor
- 15:19Speaker 1: him for many years to come. Uh, let's talk about
- 15:22Speaker 1: some of these Chiefs injuries. How is me Cole Hardman?
- 15:25Speaker 1: It does not sound very good for Mcole Harmon, the
- 15:27Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs veteran receiver dealing with a pelvis injury.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Really for the last not just several days, but several
- 15:34Speaker 1: weeks and several months, was back in it for the
- 15:36Speaker 1: a f C Title Game. Played just a handful of
- 15:38Speaker 1: plays before he realized that he simply could not go.
- 15:41Speaker 1: So he thought maybe a couple of weeks of rest
- 15:44Speaker 1: before the Super Bowl. As Andy Reich should reporters a
- 15:47Speaker 1: couple of minutes ago, he doubts that Hardman will be ready.
- 15:50Speaker 1: That is not great news for the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Probably better news for a couple of their other receivers,
- 15:55Speaker 1: ju just Miss Schuster dealing with a knee injury, ka
- 15:57Speaker 1: Darius Tony dealing with a couple of different lower body injuries.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Both of these guys figured they should be good to
- 16:03Speaker 1: go in the Super Bowl and near ready to practice.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Are good news on that front. Tough for me Cole
- 16:08Speaker 1: avoiding being having a situation where he's having to miss
- 16:12Speaker 1: a Super Bowl. Let's talk about the Saints. The odyssey
- 16:14Speaker 1: that was the Sean Payton trading situation now finally out
- 16:17Speaker 1: of the way, and now they're looking for a defensive coordinator. Yeah,
- 16:22Speaker 1: Dennis Allen the head coach, obviously a defensive head coach,
- 16:24Speaker 1: is one of the better defensive coordinators in the league,
- 16:26Speaker 1: still gonna call plays, but changing out the defensive side
- 16:30Speaker 1: of the ball. Chris Richard, who is the co defensive coordinator. Uh,
- 16:35Speaker 1: they have parted ways. That happened yesterday afternoon. Just I
- 16:38Speaker 1: would say philosophical difference is there nothing, Majors, Dennis Allen
- 16:41Speaker 1: wanted to go in a different direction rather than have
- 16:44Speaker 1: Christo Shard be the full time coordinator. He is now
- 16:48Speaker 1: out and Joe Woods, the former Brown's defensive coordinat according
- 16:52Speaker 1: to colleague Tom post Sero myself interviewing for the New
- 16:55Speaker 1: Orleans Saints, has really been one of the better secondary
- 16:57Speaker 1: coaches in the league over the last decade or so.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And this is an interesting distinction because d A as
- 17:03Speaker 1: they call him, is still going to called. The defense
- 17:06Speaker 1: of Joe would would come in kind of lend a
- 17:08Speaker 1: hand work a lot with the secondary. Maybe do what
- 17:11Speaker 1: he does best would seem to be a good higher
- 17:14Speaker 1: if in fact this is direction of the Stags go.
- 17:16Speaker 1: The messaging out of New Orleans was all about continuity.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Now a bit of change going into the season for
- 17:23Speaker 1: the Scanty and Rapp report there in Mobile with the
- 17:25Speaker 1: latest from around the league, especially injuries and the coaching searches.
- 17:38Speaker 1: We're back here on NFL now. An Eagles assistant coach,
- 17:41Speaker 1: Autumn Lockwood, is going to be the first black woman
- 17:45Speaker 1: to coach in a Super Bowl. Congratulations to her. This
- 17:49Speaker 1: Black History Month and as we celebrate Black History Month,
- 17:52Speaker 1: we honor those in the past and the present that
- 17:54Speaker 1: have made a mark on the NFL. Colts wide receiver
- 17:56Speaker 1: Michael Pittman Jr. Shares a story on who had a
- 17:59Speaker 1: big impact on him and Lintonnell was a standout safety
- 18:06Speaker 1: who in nineteen sixty seven became the first African American
- 18:10Speaker 1: player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As
- 18:13Speaker 1: we continue to celebrate Black History Month across the league,
- 18:17Speaker 1: who shared the accomplishments of the passing present as the
- 18:21Speaker 1: Giants first black player, Tonell was a key piece of
- 18:24Speaker 1: the team's famed Unbrella defense. He played fourteen seasons and
- 18:28Speaker 1: further distinguished himself through his service in the U. S.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Coast Guards from nineteen forty three to nineteen forty six.
- 18:36Speaker 1: He was a pioneer, a patriot, and one of the
- 18:39Speaker 1: most important figures in the games history. In the nineteen
- 18:42Speaker 1: sixty seven he became the first African American player inducted
- 18:45Speaker 1: into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It was a
- 18:47Speaker 1: fitting honor for a career that saw him excel at
- 18:50Speaker 1: multiple levels of the game. Folks, we have a lot
- 18:57Speaker 1: of college All Star games to look ahead to here
- 18:59Speaker 1: on NFL Network, the East West Shrine Bowl tonight eight
- 19:03Speaker 1: pm Eastern, Theresa's Senior Bowl Saturday, tom East, and the
- 19:07Speaker 1: HBC Legacy Bowl on February. More on the Shrine Ball.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Let's get the right Luis and Bucky Brooks. Four days
- 19:15Speaker 1: of practices are in the books, and we are ready
- 19:17Speaker 1: for kickoff tonight here from Allegian Stadium in the East
- 19:22Speaker 1: West Shrine Ball. And look, Bucky. I think the success
- 19:25Speaker 1: of a couple of guys in the last year's game,
- 19:27Speaker 1: which you saw here in NFL Network, might have influenced
- 19:29Speaker 1: the way that some teams were evaluating this year's crop
- 19:32Speaker 1: of players when you think back to the way that
- 19:34Speaker 1: Brock Purty and Isaiah Pacheco and last year's game really start,
- 19:38Speaker 1: and so are there some guys in the quarterback group
- 19:41Speaker 1: from both of these rosters that might have a similar
- 19:43Speaker 1: impact to what we saw from Brock Purty for the
- 19:45Speaker 1: San Francisco forty Niners this year. Absolutely right. Do you
- 19:48Speaker 1: think about developmental prospects who have big time talent and potential.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Let's start with Dorian Thompson Rominson, this guy from u C.
- 19:54Speaker 1: L A who has a ton of experience, five year starter,
- 19:57Speaker 1: has done it on the big stage. Is a dual
- 19:59Speaker 1: threat playmaker who really intrigues you with what he could
- 20:02Speaker 1: be at the next level. He is someone that you
- 20:04Speaker 1: de they want to keep an eye out. And then
- 20:06Speaker 1: on the other side, how about produced Aid and O'Connell.
- 20:08Speaker 1: You talk about experience. Coaches have really raved about his
- 20:12Speaker 1: accuracy and his ability to command the huddle. We'll have
- 20:15Speaker 1: an opportunity to see that, see what it looks like
- 20:17Speaker 1: on the big stage to phenomenally productive quarterbacks trying to
- 20:20Speaker 1: put their best foot forward on the field here tonight.
- 20:22Speaker 1: And then from the running back group, Isaia Pacheco, of course,
- 20:25Speaker 1: still going with the Kansas City Chiefs as they get
- 20:27Speaker 1: ready for Super Bowl fifties seven. You could kind of
- 20:29Speaker 1: get a sense for the type of impact that he
- 20:31Speaker 1: was going to have based on his performance here in
- 20:33Speaker 1: the Shrine Bowl. A lot some running backs that might
- 20:35Speaker 1: fit that bill this year. Well, you know when you
- 20:37Speaker 1: go to the Big ten more Ibraham was they cast
- 20:39Speaker 1: me out. You're talking about a guy who was a
- 20:41Speaker 1: physical runner three one thousand yards seasons during his time
- 20:45Speaker 1: as in going and Gopher. He has one to keep
- 20:47Speaker 1: an eye on and Entaman Thompson Thomas from Utah when
- 20:51Speaker 1: you think about a big, physical back, kind of reminds
- 20:53Speaker 1: me a little bit of like Gary Blunt. There's always
- 20:55Speaker 1: a place for those big backs, particularly short yards four
- 20:57Speaker 1: minute backs. He has a chance to really open some
- 21:00Speaker 1: eyes this week, yep, and did in the week of practice.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And so now when the bright lights are shining, can
- 21:04Speaker 1: they what they've learned in practice put it to good
- 21:07Speaker 1: use when the lights come on here tonight. Looking forward
- 21:10Speaker 1: to kick off the thirty Eastern time here on NFL Network.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Can't wait to watch the Shrine Bowl. Can't wait to
- 21:15Speaker 1: watch the Singer Bowl on Saturday on NFL Network. If
- 21:18Speaker 1: you want to live look at practice, go to Plus
- 21:21Speaker 1: dot NFL dot com and watch practice of the next
- 21:25Speaker 1: crop of NFL stars on NFL Plus on your phone
- 21:29Speaker 1: or tablet. Go to Plus dot NFL dot com for
- 21:32Speaker 1: a deeper dive ellen some of these prospects. Let's welcome
- 21:35Speaker 1: in pfn F lead national draft analysts Mike Renner. Mike
- 21:39Speaker 1: take us through some of these guys, starting with a
- 21:41Speaker 1: talented whiteout out of Houston. Tank Deal. How's he performance? Yeah,
- 21:46Speaker 1: Tank Dale has been, in my opinion, the best wide
- 21:49Speaker 1: receiver here. Yes, he is undersized, just over a hundred
- 21:51Speaker 1: sixty pounds, but I think we've seen with successive guys
- 21:53Speaker 1: like Davante Smith Darnell Mooney, the NFL more willing to
- 21:57Speaker 1: go to bat for these undersized wide receivers, and that
- 22:00Speaker 1: size really only shows up when you get contacted by
- 22:02Speaker 1: defensive backs. That's what you worry about, is those guys
- 22:04Speaker 1: not be to fight through contact and in the reps
- 22:06Speaker 1: and the one on ones. Though Taketoll hasn't even been touched.
- 22:08Speaker 1: He has so such quick feat that I think he
- 22:11Speaker 1: can get off the line of scrimmage. The production at
- 22:13Speaker 1: Houston led the FBS and receiving yards led the FBS
- 22:15Speaker 1: and receiving touchdowns. I think we're seeing that translate here
- 22:18Speaker 1: the Senior Bowl, and I think he's turning heads of
- 22:19Speaker 1: a lot of evaluators now. In terms of size concerns,
- 22:22Speaker 1: Jail Skinner definitely has none of those. You don't even
- 22:25Speaker 1: need to get the tape measure out to see his size.
- 22:28Speaker 1: How's he done this week? Yeah, I've been very impressed
- 22:31Speaker 1: with his movement skills for a six ft for safety,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and that's the biggest thing there at six four eleven pounds,
- 22:38Speaker 1: very reminiscent of what we saw from a guy in
- 22:39Speaker 1: Kyle Hamilton's last year, because they have him out here
- 22:43Speaker 1: playing a lot in the slot where he was a
- 22:44Speaker 1: box safety at Boise State, a guy who could really
- 22:47Speaker 1: find the football. But I think we're seeing the slot
- 22:48Speaker 1: position in the NFL moved towards these longer guys because
- 22:51Speaker 1: teams have to defend the run with light boxes, so
- 22:53Speaker 1: that slot position is basically a glorified linebacker and a
- 22:56Speaker 1: lot of schemes now, so we saw the success with
- 22:58Speaker 1: Kyle Hamilton's slot with the Ravens, I think teams are
- 23:01Speaker 1: envisioning a guy like Jail skinner in that similar role,
- 23:04Speaker 1: and he has shown that he is capable of doing that.
- 23:06Speaker 1: A guy who can really find the football, that really
- 23:08Speaker 1: has a nose for the ball and then has enough
- 23:09Speaker 1: cover skills to get by. Maybe not on a leaka
- 23:11Speaker 1: in that regard, but really a unique player that could
- 23:14Speaker 1: go higher than maybe his production might suggest. Yeah, a
- 23:18Speaker 1: guy that could cover backs on the backfield, maybe deal
- 23:20Speaker 1: with some tight ends. Speaking of what about Luke Musgrave,
- 23:23Speaker 1: how has he performed? Yeah, the Oregon State tight end
- 23:27Speaker 1: is one of the most physically impressive players here regardless
- 23:29Speaker 1: of position. Six ft six two pounds and he went
- 23:33Speaker 1: over twenty miles on the GPS yesterday. Only three other
- 23:36Speaker 1: wide receivers went over twenty miles in the GPS. And
- 23:39Speaker 1: he's a tight end. This guy is a different breed now.
- 23:41Speaker 1: He's still a raw route runner. But he only played
- 23:44Speaker 1: two games this past fall, then had an injury, came back.
- 23:47Speaker 1: You see that natural athletic ability. Everyone's looking for that
- 23:50Speaker 1: tight end that can stretch vertically. So maybe working his
- 23:53Speaker 1: way into the first round conversation with his production, with
- 23:56Speaker 1: his wins in the one on one down the football field.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Bowling Green defensive tackle Carl Brooks was a first team
- 24:03Speaker 1: PFF all amere two. Now he's got a chance to
- 24:07Speaker 1: show his stuff at the Senior Bowl. How things gone
- 24:08Speaker 1: for him in Mobile? Yeah, the Senior Bowl was made
- 24:11Speaker 1: for guys like Carl Brooks because at Bowling Green he
- 24:14Speaker 1: played on the edge. He was a stand up two
- 24:16Speaker 1: point outside linebacker at three under pounds. He's not gonna
- 24:19Speaker 1: play that in the NFL. Playing on the interior here,
- 24:21Speaker 1: a position he really didn't play at Bowling Green, and
- 24:23Speaker 1: still dominating the quickness off the ball, the hand you said,
- 24:27Speaker 1: she really knows how to use his hands really well.
- 24:29Speaker 1: And the power on the interior. Usually that's what you
- 24:31Speaker 1: worry about for the guys moving from the edge of
- 24:33Speaker 1: the interior. Really hasn't showed that at all. So probably
- 24:36Speaker 1: working his way into the day two conversation with his
- 24:38Speaker 1: performance here in Mobile. So much opportunity for one on
- 24:41Speaker 1: one and then of course who gets the shine? Saturday
- 24:44Speaker 1: at two thirty on NFL Network for the game. Mike
- 24:46Speaker 1: ren Ter, lead draft analysts for PFF. You can't wait
- 24:53Speaker 1: for the game, can't wait for half time, can't wait
- 24:54Speaker 1: for more show? Because we got time for one more thing.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Joining me now with camera wolf Mark Rawlson, Ian Rappaport
- 25:00Speaker 1: Camp which here one more thing. Yeah. Talking to a
- 25:03Speaker 1: lot of the Pro Bowl stars about the retirement of
- 25:06Speaker 1: Tom Brady, Kirk Cousins said Brady started when he was
- 25:09Speaker 1: in seventh grade. He's still playing in cousins twelfth year.
- 25:12Speaker 1: He was at all of just the complexity in the
- 25:15Speaker 1: length of Brady's career. Tyreek Hill said he doesn't think
- 25:18Speaker 1: Brady is done. He said he thinks he'll put some
- 25:20Speaker 1: Bronk bro Gain and Icy Hot on and come back
- 25:23Speaker 1: at some point as well. And Michael Parson says he
- 25:26Speaker 1: needs Tom Brady to sign his jersey. Said, I had
- 25:29Speaker 1: the last sack, so I badly need that last jersey.
- 25:32Speaker 1: What what a congratulations? You're old. I don't believe you,
- 25:36Speaker 1: and I need you to do some work for Tom Brady.
- 25:38Speaker 1: More across, you're one more third. So going on in Philly.
- 25:42Speaker 1: I'm in Philadelphia. Nothing more sacred than that Rocky statue.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Well the forty Niners. Apparently a forty Niners fan put
- 25:49Speaker 1: a jersey on that Rocky statue there and check it out.
- 25:52Speaker 1: And on the Kelsey Brothers podcast this week, Jason was
- 25:55Speaker 1: telling Travis he better make sure that new Chiefs fan
- 25:58Speaker 1: tries to put a jersey on Rocky there, or it'll
- 26:00Speaker 1: be another beat down coming because the Niners did it.
- 26:04Speaker 1: The Giants did it for two with putting new jersey
- 26:06Speaker 1: on the on the Rocky statue. There some deliberation, maybe
- 26:09Speaker 1: even equals. Fans are doing it to inspire the team,
- 26:11Speaker 1: but who knows what's going on their Patrick Yeah, after
- 26:13Speaker 1: the sense he mayor nobody's touching that. I and what's
- 26:15Speaker 1: your one more thing? Sources tell me that Travis Faguette,
- 26:20Speaker 1: the world champion arm wrestler, is going to wrestle Tom
- 26:24Speaker 1: Pellisero on NFL. Plus he's also the dad of Tyson,
- 26:28Speaker 1: who's out here thrown behind me, one of the senior
- 26:30Speaker 1: boat quarterbacks. Let's hope that Pellisaro gets absolutely destroyed and embashed.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I just hope that everybody's okay. I'm looking forward to that,
- 26:37Speaker 1: and of course today is ground all day. Everybody My
- 26:39Speaker 1: one more thing, while we can question puksa Tony Phil's
- 26:42Speaker 1: meteorological capabilities when he sees his shadow in the past
- 26:46Speaker 1: five times the NFC team has won the Super Bowl.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Who knows. I'm not saying, I'm just saying, perhaps Puny
- 26:54Speaker 1: Phil has made so watching NFL now Here on NFL Network,
- 26:58Speaker 1: We'll see you tomorrow. NFL now is a production of
- 27:03Speaker 1: the NFL and partners ship with I heart Radio. For
