- 0:01Good morning and a warm welcome to your show,
- 0:05Sunny Mornings in Boston. I'm your host, Melissa,
- 0:09and it's Tuesday, October 13th. You'll be interested
- 0:13to know. 234 years ago today, in 1792, President
- 0:19George Washington ceremonially laid the cornerstone
- 0:22for the presidential residence in a public masonic
- 0:25rite that symbolized the official start of construction
- 0:29for the building that would later be known as
- 0:31the White House. That ceremonial act marked a
- 0:35defining step toward establishing the American
- 0:37National Executive Mansion. So now you know.
- 0:43And now, it's time for the weather report. This
- 0:49morning, there's a chance of rain showers, and
- 0:52it feels like 56 degrees with 9 miles per hour
- 0:56wind. The sunset will take place at 6 .03, and
- 1:00it will rise again tomorrow at 6 .55. It looks
- 1:04like grin for a cloudy day with a chance of rain
- 1:07showers and patchy fog reaching a high near 63
- 1:11at a moderate southeast wind around 9 miles per
- 1:15hour. If you're inland, it will hit a high of
- 1:1863 tonight. Expect likely rain showers and patchy
- 1:23fog before 8 p .m., then a chance of thunderstorms
- 1:27and a low around 59 with light southwest winds
- 1:31around 8 miles per hour. The nearshore buoy at
- 1:35Cape Cod Bay reads 60 degrees for the water temperature.
- 1:41Looking ahead in the weather, Wednesday will
- 1:44be mostly sunny with a high near 74 and a west
- 1:48wind around 10 miles per hour. A cooler Thursday
- 1:52brings sunshine with highs near 61, then a slight
- 1:55chance of showers Thursday night, followed by
- 1:58rainy and gusty conditions Friday with highs
- 2:00near 62. and south winds gusting as high as 24
- 2:04miles per hour. Bonjour, food enthusiasts! This
- 2:09podcast is brought to you by Versailles Cafe

- 2:33coffee. They are open every day from 8 to 5.
- 2:38So stop on by and don't forget to tell them.
- 2:41Sunny mornings send you. In local news, chief
- 2:47executive Brian Chesky says that Airbnb is benefiting
- 2:51from chatbots. AI agents like Muse can already
- 2:55find you the cheapest hotel room in Paris. However,
- 2:59they cannot locate a cheaper version of that
- 3:02Catskills cabin you have been eyeing because
- 3:04it might only be available on Airbnb. Investors
- 3:08should pay attention to that distinction. When
- 3:11MetaPlatforms launched its muse agent last month,
- 3:15travel stocks including Booking Holdings, Expedia,
- 3:18and Airbnb all fell sharply. Now on to sports.
- 3:29Last night on Monday Night Football, The Buffalo
- 3:32Bills beat the Los Angeles Rams 37 -34. Neither
- 3:37defense could string together stops, and one
- 3:40drive either way would have changed it. Buffalo
- 3:43moves to 4 -1. Los Angeles falls to 2 -3. In
- 3:49the LCS, Cleveland beat Tampa Bay 7 -3 in Game
- 3:541 last night. Home runs from Chase DeLotter and
- 3:58Patrick Bailey tied it, and Nathaniel Lowe's
- 4:01two run single in the eighth broke it open. The
- 4:05Guardians lead one game to none. Last night in
- 4:09the NLCS, Milwaukee beat Los Angeles 7 -4. William
- 4:15Contreras tied it with a fifth inning homer and
- 4:18singled home the go -ahead run an inning later.
- 4:22The Brewers lead two games to none. Tonight,
- 4:26NLCS Game 2 starts at 8 o 'clock Eastern. Cleveland
- 4:31can go up 2. or Tampa Bay, can't even it. In
- 4:36local sports, the Bruins wrap up their Western
- 4:39swing tonight in San Jose against the Sharks.
- 4:43Puck drop at Sidey Key Center is 11 p .m., so
- 4:47it's a late one. San Jose has a new captain in
- 4:52Macklin Celebrini, just 20 years old, one of
- 4:55the youngest captains in NHL history, and he
- 4:58already owns the franchise record for points
- 5:01in a season. The start for Boston has been up
- 5:04and down, a 3 -0 shutout of the Rangers and an
- 5:09overtime win over Winnipeg, but ugly losses to
- 5:12Minnesota and Ottawa. Goaltending and the penalty
- 5:16kill will decide it. The blue line has injury
- 5:20questions, and no starting goalie was announced
- 5:23as of this writing. This is the only time the
- 5:26two meet this regular season. Meanwhile, the
- 5:30Red Sox may be moving on from Tristan Casas.
- 5:34Peter Abraham of The Globe predicts a non -tender
- 5:37this offseason. The issue is health, not cost.
- 5:43MLB Trade Rumors projects him at just $1 .7 million,
- 5:47but he has not played a big league game since
- 5:50tearing his patellar tendon May 2nd of last year.
- 5:55A 40 -man spot may be worth more right now. In
- 6:00top news, Two Americans have won the Nobel Memorial
- 6:04Prize in Economic Sciences for their work on
- 6:07how to smooth boom and bus cycles to limit inflation
- 6:11and unemployment. Robert Hall of Stanford University
- 6:14and Michael Woodford of Columbia University were
- 6:17honored for their focus on decision -making by
- 6:20households and businesses regarding purchases
- 6:23and pricing. This work laid the foundation for
- 6:26the new Keynesian approach to economics. John
- 6:30Hassler, the chairman of the prize committee,
- 6:32emphasized the importance of reducing economic
- 6:35swings to prevent high unemployment and inflation.
- 6:39Woodford noted that clear communication from
- 6:41policymakers enhances the effectiveness of stabilization
- 6:45tools. In business news, blockchain .com, a digital
- 6:51asset platform, wants to get in on the prediction
- 6:54market boom in the U .S. The company has filed
- 6:58for two licenses with the Commodity Futures Trading
- 7:01Commission to feature event contracts and cryptocurrency
- 7:04derivatives for retail and institutional customers
- 7:07in the U .S. Blockchain .com told CNBC. Blockchain
- 7:13.com is asking the CFTC to designate a futures
- 7:17exchange by receiving a designated contract market
- 7:21license and to be registered as a futures commission
- 7:24merchant. Peter Smith, CEO and co -founder of
- 7:28blockchain .com, stated users should be able
- 7:32to manage their digital assets easily without
- 7:35jumping between different apps. The company earlier
- 7:38began offering prediction markets through a partnership
- 7:41with Polymarket, as well as perpetual futures
- 7:44powered by Hyperliquid. In crypto movement, Bitcoin
- 7:49is down 2 % to $82 ,000. Ethereum is down 3 .5
- 7:55% to about $2 ,000. And XRP is down 4 % to $1
- 8:02.35. Moving on to a more local vibe. In our community
- 8:09spotlight on health and wellness, we are working

- 8:42Hingham, Brookline, and Framingham, just be sure
- 8:45to tell them Sunny Morning sent you by. And now
- 8:50back to the show. Let's talk science. Using the
- 8:55NASA X -ray spacecraft Swift combined with radio
- 8:58observations, astronomers have observed a supermassive
- 9:02black hole burping radio jets 300 days after
- 9:06a heavy cosmic meal. This black hole, located
- 9:09at the center of the galaxy, NGC 1275, has a
- 9:14mass between 100 million times and 1 billion
- 9:17times the mass of the Sun. Researchers found
- 9:21tentative evidence of a 300 -day delay between
- 9:24X -ray flaring and radio wave emission. The team's
- 9:28findings reveal how black holes influence star
- 9:31formation in their host galaxies and have been
- 9:34accepted for publication in the Astrophysical
- 9:36Journal Letters. The Muppets turned 50 this year,
- 9:45but they nearly did not get made at all. It was
- 9:48a real study in perseverance. Since their series
- 9:52debut in 1976, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and
- 9:56the rest of the Muppets have attained an iconic
- 9:59status in pop culture. They picked up four Emmy
- 10:02Awards last month for Disney Plus's The Muppet
- 10:06Show special featuring Sabrina Carpenter. Henson's
- 10:10biographer, Brian J. Jones, remarked, it was
- 10:13such a hard road to get The Muppet Show made.
- 10:17Lisa Henson attributes their longevity to the
- 10:20depth of their personalities. As she says, they
- 10:23are all multi -dimensional, fallible, funny characters.
- 10:28Well, all righty, folks, it's time for the quote
- 10:31of the day. And today, our quote comes from the
- 10:35American writer and philosopher, Albert Hubbard.
- 10:39And he said, the greatest mistake you can make
- 10:42in life is to be continually fearing you will
- 10:45make one. And that's a wrap for this morning.
