- 1:48Speaker 5: half a dozen. I think there's got to be more
- 1:50Speaker 5: than that.
- 1:51Speaker 4: I need a day.
- 1:53Speaker 5: That's what I think.

- 2:13Speaker 4: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 2:17Speaker 4: at Let's Stadium. Yeah, what are you pointing to a
- 2:23Speaker 4: light here now? And everything? I know you like one
- 2:26Speaker 4: outside the door to people outside the door can see
- 2:30Speaker 4: that we're on a.
- 2:31Speaker 6: Salty dogs that are out there, like what the hell?
- 2:38Speaker 4: As of fact, anyway, we're here to talk Patriots because
- 2:42Speaker 4: we are on air for the next two hours. It's Evan,
- 2:45Speaker 4: it's Paul, it's me, it's Deuce, it's Matt and na
- 2:47Speaker 4: Booth and uh, tough loss, tough loss. Although you know,
- 2:53Speaker 4: we're here to emphasize the play of Drake May Yes,
- 2:57Speaker 4: I thought that first half he was flawless. He really
- 3:02Speaker 4: was a couple of drops, but otherwise he would have
- 3:05Speaker 4: I think he would have been perfect, uh stats wise,
- 3:08Speaker 4: but he had a great game. The defense did not,
- 3:11Speaker 4: the coaches probably did not. But something that I wanted
- 3:15Speaker 4: to point out and I was, you know, I do
- 3:18Speaker 4: a lot of thinking. I have a long commute, so
- 3:20Speaker 4: I think McVeigh after the game, very complimentary toward Drake
- 3:28Speaker 4: may also very complimentary toward Gonzales, saying, you know, we
- 3:33Speaker 4: you know, we decided to avoid him. You know, he's
- 3:36Speaker 4: pretty good, and it's great to hear another coach talked
- 3:39Speaker 4: about your players that way. But that can have a
- 3:43Speaker 4: negative effect too, in that Belichick used to do the
- 3:47Speaker 4: same thing. He used to butter up the opponents sometimes.
- 3:52Speaker 4: And in this situation where you got these two probably
- 3:56Speaker 4: two of the best players for the future that the
- 3:59Speaker 4: player the team has, you have an opposing coach buttering
- 4:02Speaker 4: you up, yet your team's losing, and we have to
- 4:06Speaker 4: be careful here. I hope that you know, they didn't
- 4:09Speaker 4: take that they took that. I hope they took it
- 4:12Speaker 4: the right way in that yeah, you know, we're good,
- 4:16Speaker 4: but we're only as good as our team is, instead
- 4:19Speaker 4: of yeah we're good, how come we're losing? You know,
- 4:22Speaker 4: I shouldn't be losing like that, So you have to
- 4:26Speaker 4: be careful about how you take that. And even Gerard
- 4:28Speaker 4: Mayo mentioned what McVeigh said about Drake in his interview
- 4:35Speaker 4: with EEI. So we have to be careful how these
- 4:41Speaker 4: you know, would be superstars on the Patriots, you know,
- 4:45Speaker 4: take this type of outside compliments.
- 4:48Speaker 6: Yeah, you know what I mean, Well, two young kids,
- 4:50Speaker 6: you know, I mean, I mean what has gone. Gonzalez
- 4:52Speaker 6: has played like maybe six more games, and then Drake
- 4:55Speaker 6: at this point, so I hear what you're saying. I mean,
- 4:57Speaker 6: I think usually Bill with butter guys up before the
- 4:59Speaker 6: game and then afterwards, you wouldn't really hear about them.
- 5:01Speaker 6: But I mean, I like hearing from McVeigh. I think
- 5:03Speaker 6: everybody respects mcvey's takes on quarterbacks. And you know, we
- 5:07Speaker 6: said I didn't do a lot of work on him,
- 5:08Speaker 6: but people I know and respected and thought very highly
- 5:10Speaker 6: of him. So yeah, it's it's nice coming out of
- 5:13Speaker 6: the game get a little little flowers for Drake. It
- 5:15Speaker 6: is nice, not just us doing it right.
- 5:17Speaker 4: It is nice, but we can still do it. Yeah,
- 5:19Speaker 4: but remember you're you're still part of a team that's losing,
- 5:24Speaker 4: and if they're losing, you're losing and you know, let's
- 5:27Speaker 4: get better together.
- 5:28Speaker 6: I think one of the things I've learned I was
- 5:29Speaker 6: thinking yesterday when night I did a little film grind
- 5:32Speaker 6: myself watching these teams over the last couple of years.
- 5:35Speaker 6: I mean, these Patriots teams, it's you know, the bad
- 5:38Speaker 6: teams in the NFL. They're just inconsistent.
- 5:40Speaker 4: You know.
- 5:40Speaker 6: It's like, I think all these teams have some talent
- 5:43Speaker 6: mixed into their team, and you might even have a
- 5:46Speaker 6: full game like we did against the Bears, where it
- 5:48Speaker 6: all kind of comes together when it works. But these
- 5:51Speaker 6: bad teams over the last few years that haven't made
- 5:53Speaker 6: the playoffs, it's it's just a constant trying to chase
- 5:56Speaker 6: consistency and to put together that perfect game. And you know,
- 6:00Speaker 6: maybe if they were a little bit more talented, they'd
- 6:02Speaker 6: have more margin for error. You don't need everyone to
- 6:05Speaker 6: play perfect every game, which is a little bit where
- 6:07Speaker 6: I feel like they're at now. No, that's what keeps
- 6:10Speaker 6: popping up. It's like here we go again that you
- 6:13Speaker 6: don't have the team didn't show up this week.
- 6:14Speaker 4: There's not a lot that separates these teams in the NFL,
- 6:17Speaker 4: and like you said, most of it is consistency doing it.
- 6:21Speaker 4: If you make these mistakes on a consistent basis, you
- 6:24Speaker 4: have a losing record. If you don't on a consistent basis,
- 6:28Speaker 4: you usually have a winning record. And if you do
- 6:30Speaker 4: it sometimes and not sometimes, you're you're a mediocre.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah, maybe it sounds so simple when when you
- 6:35Speaker 6: break it down that way, But I think the hard
- 6:37Speaker 6: thing is just looking at the team and saying, yes,
- 6:39Speaker 6: there are still talented players, and I'll focus on the
- 6:42Speaker 6: defense right now, but there are talent. There is some
- 6:44Speaker 6: talent on this defense, but right now there's not enough talent,
- 6:47Speaker 6: and they're not playing together consistently enough to be consistently
- 6:51Speaker 6: impactful and stay in games. And I mean, it is
- 6:54Speaker 6: really hard, I think when you're a little bit outmatched.
- 6:57Speaker 6: And you know, I thought McVeigh I kind of dove
- 7:00Speaker 6: into that a little bit yesterday. That was what I
- 7:01Speaker 6: was kind of trying to explore because I heard all
- 7:03Speaker 6: these people talking about well Gonzales on the boundary, and
- 7:05Speaker 6: so I did dive into that a little bit, and
- 7:07Speaker 6: it just it seemed like, I mean not to divert
- 7:10Speaker 6: off my original point, but you know, it just seemed like,
- 7:12Speaker 6: you see what a really experienced coordinator does they see
- 7:15Speaker 6: what you're doing and they say, Okay, we're gonna make
- 7:18Speaker 6: it so that Pooka and Akup and Cooper Cupp are
- 7:20Speaker 6: on this side of the field and they're gonna be
- 7:22Speaker 6: going against del Pettis.
- 7:23Speaker 4: And you know, then the back and not and where
- 7:26Speaker 4: the Patriots coaches fell down is that once you realize
- 7:29Speaker 4: that didn't count, Okay, now you've got to go to
- 7:31Speaker 4: man to man right now, You've got to counter that.
- 7:34Speaker 4: And they seemingly stuck to their plan. You know. I
- 7:39Speaker 4: don't know if the stubbornness or just not seeing what
- 7:43Speaker 4: the Rams were doing, but that's the problem. Like you
- 7:45Speaker 4: can have the plan and maybe you know, on another
- 7:49Speaker 4: day this having Gonzo on the boundary would have worked,
- 7:52Speaker 4: but as soon as you see that the other team's
- 7:54Speaker 4: adjusting and what they're doing is working for them, you
- 7:57Speaker 4: need to adjust again.
- 7:59Speaker 7: The Gonza on the boundary thing is the most overrated
- 8:02Speaker 7: storyline coming out of this game. Tell us why because
- 8:05Speaker 7: the way that the Rams play, they motion all the time, right,
- 8:09Speaker 7: So if you're traveling with guys in man to man
- 8:12Speaker 7: coverage and then they're putting those players in motion before
- 8:15Speaker 7: the snap, Like now you have to run across the
- 8:18Speaker 7: formation with those players and cover those guys while running
- 8:22Speaker 7: across the formation, and they actually did very early in
- 8:25Speaker 7: this game. They were in man to man, they motioned
- 8:28Speaker 7: Niakua across the formation and Jonathan Jones lost them in
- 8:32Speaker 7: the motion and he went for a thirty seven yard game.
- 8:35Speaker 7: So what the Patriots did to combat this eventually? And
- 8:39Speaker 7: I agree that their plan coming into the game to
- 8:42Speaker 7: handle motion was not good and one of the reasons
- 8:45Speaker 7: for that is no longer on the team, and that's
- 8:47Speaker 7: Marco Wilson, right, But in general, their plan to handle
- 8:50Speaker 7: motion wasn't great. But instead of just running around with
- 8:54Speaker 7: all the receivers as they were motioning, they just stuck
- 8:57Speaker 7: to their sides of the field and said, whoever comes
- 8:59Speaker 7: out your side of the field, that's who you have now.
- 9:03Speaker 4: But okay, so so they stuck to their side of
- 9:08Speaker 4: the field. But let's just say, you know, on your
- 9:11Speaker 4: side of the field, Nikua ends up on the slot. Yep,
- 9:16Speaker 4: Does that still take Gonzo out of the play because
- 9:19Speaker 4: he's taking the boundary like I don't know, I'm.
- 9:21Speaker 7: Asked, Yeah, yes, but yes in theory, yes, But what
- 9:25Speaker 7: was happening was was that Gonzo was starting on cupper
- 9:29Speaker 7: Nikua and McVeigh was motioning those guys across the other
- 9:33Speaker 7: side of the formation, and then the Patriots then either
- 9:36Speaker 7: needed to switch it or they needed to stay with
- 9:38Speaker 7: the man, which was difficult to do. It's it's difficult
- 9:41Speaker 7: to do that.
- 9:42Speaker 4: So why is like I see teams doing that all
- 9:44Speaker 4: the time. Why is that difficult?
- 9:45Speaker 7: It's difficult to stick with the man, you know, because
- 9:48Speaker 7: that player now has a head of steam coming into
- 9:50Speaker 7: his route. Yeah, right, he's gaining momentum as he's coming
- 9:53Speaker 7: into the route. And it's also difficult to leverage the
- 9:56Speaker 7: route at that point because you know of the way
- 9:58Speaker 7: that the player is moving at the snap. So, like
- 10:02Speaker 7: the other thing that I've heard a lot of from
- 10:03Speaker 7: this game, this isn't where I wanted to go by
- 10:05Speaker 7: the way to start, but like, no, it's okay. The
- 10:07Speaker 7: other place that the other thing I heard a lot
- 10:09Speaker 7: about coming out of this game is well, why didn't
- 10:11Speaker 7: they double right? Why didn't they double Nikua out of
- 10:15Speaker 7: the game? Well, again, when you're motioning the receiver all
- 10:20Speaker 7: the time before the ball is snapped and you're riding
- 10:22Speaker 7: in these condensed formations like the you can't it's really
- 10:27Speaker 7: difficult to then double.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Okay, So I'm gonna I just I think this is
- 10:31Speaker 4: interesting because, like you said, this was a big narrative
- 10:34Speaker 4: coming out of the game. I'm sure the Patriots coaches
- 10:37Speaker 4: did their homework and this is what the Rams do
- 10:41Speaker 4: in motion all the time?
- 10:42Speaker 7: Correct?
- 10:42Speaker 4: How are we going to combat that?
- 10:44Speaker 7: Yes?
- 10:44Speaker 4: Are you saying that they didn't have a good plan
- 10:46Speaker 4: one hundred percent? Okay, so then that's a problem.
- 10:48Speaker 7: Yeah, that that to me, The two biggest problems with
- 10:52Speaker 7: their plan had nothing to do with where Gonzo was playing.
- 10:55Speaker 7: The biggest one to me or the two biggest ones
- 10:58Speaker 7: were their plan to handle motion. Are we passing it off?
- 11:02Speaker 7: Are we staying locked into our man? You know he
- 11:06Speaker 7: is a deuced to are there are we banjoing this?
- 11:08Speaker 7: Or what are we doing to handle the motion?
- 11:11Speaker 4: Right?
- 11:11Speaker 7: So too many times early on in this game, two
- 11:14Speaker 7: guys were going with one guy and Nikua was just
- 11:17Speaker 7: wide open, right because they're just motioning him and nobody
- 11:20Speaker 7: you know, they're not passing it off the motion correctly.
- 11:22Speaker 7: The other issue that I thought, I thought with this
- 11:25Speaker 7: game plan was blitzing Stafford eighteen times. You're going up
- 11:29Speaker 7: against a sixteen year veteran quarterback, really good quarterback in
- 11:34Speaker 7: this league. He's not Caleb Williams. You can't just blitz
- 11:38Speaker 7: them like crazy and then expect him to be flustered
- 11:42Speaker 7: by it. So they're coming in there.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Do you think they did that? I couldn't.
- 11:46Speaker 7: I couldn't tell you. The only guess that I have
- 11:48Speaker 7: is that they knew the Rams offensive line was banged up.
- 11:51Speaker 7: They figured that they could cover the receivers, and they
- 11:56Speaker 7: they just thought that they could expose the offensive line
- 11:59Speaker 7: by pressuring. So they brought It wasn't just the cup touchdown, right,
- 12:04Speaker 7: like they brought pressure a lot in this game.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Well, do you think it was also an admittance that
- 12:11Speaker 4: straight up we can't handle this team.
- 12:14Speaker 7: I guess, I mean maybe, but like you have you know,
- 12:18Speaker 7: you have Kean White, you get bar More back. You
- 12:21Speaker 7: know that you have some guys.
- 12:22Speaker 4: With back like how many snaps did he do?
- 12:24Speaker 7: Like yeah?
- 12:26Speaker 4: And all really on passing downs right, thirteen thirteen and seven?
- 12:31Speaker 7: Yeah, So they they had. I don't think that that
- 12:35Speaker 7: would be an accurate way to look at it, just
- 12:38Speaker 7: because I do think you have some guys that can
- 12:40Speaker 7: win one on one matchups. And so my biggest gripe
- 12:44Speaker 7: with it was that the corners were just exposed. You know,
- 12:46Speaker 7: they're out on islands on these receivers and cupping the
- 12:50Speaker 7: couer good players, and so when you leave them and
- 12:53Speaker 7: when you leave them exposed like that, you know, really
- 12:57Speaker 7: for the most part, you have maybe a single high
- 12:59Speaker 7: safety in the middle of the field. You know, there's nobody.
- 13:01Speaker 7: There's nobody at the intermediate level. There's no robber help
- 13:04Speaker 7: or anyone at that you know, second level of the
- 13:07Speaker 7: defense to help in the inside. So they're just out there,
- 13:11Speaker 7: you know, on on islands with these receivers, and to
- 13:14Speaker 7: the rams credit, their receivers won the matchups. Like that's it.
- 13:17Speaker 4: So that was and I think that it was telling
- 13:23Speaker 4: when Gerd Mayo was asked out that about the plan
- 13:27Speaker 4: for Gonzo on the Boundaries that I don't want to
- 13:29Speaker 4: talk about that now. I think that maybe he maybe
- 13:34Speaker 4: he didn't agree with the game It sounded to me
- 13:37Speaker 4: like he didn't agree with the game plan. I don't know.
- 13:40Speaker 7: Well, but I have a coach.
- 13:43Speaker 4: But but but sometimes you know, Okay, you have a
- 13:46Speaker 4: defensive coordinator and they convince you, yeah, this is the
- 13:50Speaker 4: way to go, and you give in to the people
- 13:53Speaker 4: that you hired to do the job and then you
- 13:55Speaker 4: regret it later. I'm not you know, maybe ahead of
- 13:57Speaker 4: time he wasn't as you know, decided on it as
- 14:03Speaker 4: it seemed to be afterwards that yeah, that wasn't a
- 14:05Speaker 4: good game plan. That's what. Did you hear that too?
- 14:09Speaker 4: When he was asked about that and he said, yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 4: I'm he said, I'm not going to talk about that
- 14:13Speaker 4: right now.
- 14:14Speaker 7: He said he thought it was the best thing to do.
- 14:16Speaker 7: And I can understand the rationale. I know, a lot
- 14:19Speaker 7: of people look at it and say, well, so now
- 14:21Speaker 7: he's just covering de Marcus Robinson, Like what, you know,
- 14:23Speaker 7: why are we doing that? I U no, Christian Gonzales
- 14:27Speaker 7: is on the rims.
- 14:29Speaker 4: I see what you're saying.
- 14:30Speaker 7: But like, at the same time, you know, the thing
- 14:32Speaker 7: I keep going back to is, well, if you start
- 14:35Speaker 7: Gonzo on Nikua and then they just motioned ni kua
- 14:40Speaker 7: across the formation and you switch it anyways, then like
- 14:43Speaker 7: what difference does it make which receiver he technically lined
- 14:47Speaker 7: up over to start the play And that's all McVeigh
- 14:50Speaker 7: was gonna do, and that's all he did do. So
- 14:52Speaker 7: like eventually you just have to you know, kind of
- 14:55Speaker 7: win matchups and like that's just the way that it goes.
- 14:57Speaker 7: And I actually thought in the second half they did
- 15:00Speaker 7: a much better job. You know, Nikoua had six for
- 15:02Speaker 7: one seventeen or five for one seventeen and a half time.
- 15:05Speaker 7: He had one catch in the second half, so I
- 15:07Speaker 7: thought that they were were able to kind of get
- 15:11Speaker 7: him under control a little bit.
- 15:13Speaker 4: So, so a combination of that and the too much
- 15:15Speaker 4: blitzing spell defeat.
- 15:18Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, that's how I would look at it.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Yeah, Mike, what did you have? You look you wanted
- 15:22Speaker 5: to get in there?
- 15:23Speaker 4: I forgot, I know, because because I think on offense,
- 15:28Speaker 4: they did move the ball. It was their most productive
- 15:30Speaker 4: offensive game of the season, even though you know, only
- 15:33Speaker 4: twenty two points. But for them, that was an improvement.
- 15:36Speaker 4: I think they left points on the on the field
- 15:38Speaker 4: of course for sure red zone, so it could have
- 15:41Speaker 4: been better. But the defense let them down. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 4: they did.
- 15:47Speaker 6: I just I mean, I I wonder maybe this is
- 15:49Speaker 6: you know, some more for discussion, is are the Patriots
- 15:52Speaker 6: game plans defensive league easily discernible quickly and are they
- 15:57Speaker 6: adjusting in game?
- 15:59Speaker 4: They're easy to offend.
- 16:00Speaker 6: They're easy to offend.
- 16:01Speaker 4: That's why.
- 16:02Speaker 7: I just don't think that they you know, this week,
- 16:04Speaker 7: and I'm not saying that they have done this all year,
- 16:06Speaker 7: but it felt like they just rolled out the same
- 16:09Speaker 7: plan they used against the Bears and expected it.
- 16:11Speaker 5: To work again.
- 16:12Speaker 7: That's my point, And I just I don't you have
- 16:16Speaker 7: to be a little bit more malleable than that, Like
- 16:18Speaker 7: you have to game god opponents. So you know, they
- 16:21Speaker 7: played sixty percent man coverage in this game. They played
- 16:24Speaker 7: sixty percent coverage against Chicago. They blitzed eighteen times this game.
- 16:28Speaker 7: They blitzed seventeen times against Chicago. Like it's it was
- 16:31Speaker 7: just sort of the same.
- 16:32Speaker 4: That's true. That's scary because you're comparing Caleb Williams to
- 16:36Speaker 4: a sixteen years that's better.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Three weeks that same thing against Caleb Williams probably wouldn't
- 16:44Speaker 5: be a wise choice. Like he's going to get better,
- 16:47Speaker 5: He's gonna you know, he's gonna start to understand that
- 16:50Speaker 5: a little bit more. Here's my problem, and I I
- 16:54Speaker 5: everything Evan said about the coverage. I do think when
- 16:58Speaker 5: they when they play well and everything looks better and
- 17:04Speaker 5: everybody starts talking about all the great things, when they
- 17:07Speaker 5: play badly or you know, it's it's not because they
- 17:10Speaker 5: play badly. It's all coaching. It's like Tennessee, he's coaching
- 17:17Speaker 5: to lose. They didn't go for two. They they cost
- 17:19Speaker 5: him a chance. They didn't know what the wind was.
- 17:22Speaker 5: This guy's got to go. Then they win the next game. Right,
- 17:25Speaker 5: But everything is great, right, everything is great, they got
- 17:27Speaker 5: the future is all all bright. Then they have this
- 17:31Speaker 5: game where two really good players catch one hundred yards
- 17:34Speaker 5: worth of passes and all the coaches got to go.
- 17:36Speaker 5: It's all because that's not fair. Might it be that
- 17:40Speaker 5: the other team's players were better than his team's players
- 17:43Speaker 5: this week? They were able to make some plays. I
- 17:46Speaker 5: actually thought that Patriots did a really good job of
- 17:49Speaker 5: finding a way to hang around, and hang around and
- 17:52Speaker 5: hang around and finally at the end of the game
- 17:55Speaker 5: have a.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Chance to stay. They had the chance to win the
- 17:57Speaker 4: game at the end.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Like the whole Like I really got annoyed post game
- 18:02Speaker 5: with the Ben Bollen question to Gerard Mayo.
- 18:04Speaker 4: That was a really unfair question.
- 18:06Speaker 5: You know, are you coaching scared?
- 18:08Speaker 4: I think he said, yeah, yes, I am Ben.
- 18:10Speaker 5: You know, And there's a better way to I understand
- 18:14Speaker 5: what his point is. I won't get bogged down in semantics,
- 18:17Speaker 5: I think he just meant, you know, do you need
- 18:19Speaker 5: to be more aggressive?
- 18:20Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 18:21Speaker 5: Do you feel like you need to be more aggressive?
- 18:22Speaker 5: Would have been a much better way to ask the
- 18:24Speaker 5: same exact question. Yeah, Okay, can't you possibly look at
- 18:29Speaker 5: it a different way and say, yeah? I mean, I'm
- 18:31Speaker 5: not telling you I agree with every in game decision
- 18:33Speaker 5: that Gerard Mayo made. But so it's fourth and goal
- 18:37Speaker 5: from the two. You had the ball at the five,
- 18:39Speaker 5: you had three plays from the five, you only managed
- 18:41Speaker 5: to get to the two. So maybe he's thinking, if
- 18:45Speaker 5: I don't get in the game's kind of over. Yeah,
- 18:47Speaker 5: let me take some points and extend the game a
- 18:50Speaker 5: little bit here. And maybe that's why when they scored
- 18:54Speaker 5: to make it the nine point game this time. You know,
- 18:59Speaker 5: in Jacksonville, when they did that fifteen to nine, they
- 19:02Speaker 5: went for two with eight and a half minutes left.
- 19:04Speaker 5: This time there was twelve forty five left and it
- 19:07Speaker 5: went from fifteen to nine, and they this time they
- 19:11Speaker 5: chose to kick it. Maybe this time he's saying, we're
- 19:14Speaker 5: hanging on right here. Yeah, let's just extend the game,
- 19:19Speaker 5: keep chipping away, get it to eight. Now. Obviously he
- 19:23Speaker 5: couldn't have foreseen you getting an extra point block, right,
- 19:26Speaker 5: but maybe that's what he was trying to do. Again,
- 19:28Speaker 5: I'm not telling you I agree with it.
- 19:29Speaker 4: At the end of the day, like you said, they
- 19:31Speaker 4: had the ball in their hands with plenty of time.
- 19:35Speaker 5: Time wasn't a fact. I think they needed to get
- 19:37Speaker 5: down the field and score and they weren't able to
- 19:39Speaker 5: do it. But I'm not telling you we should build
- 19:42Speaker 5: a shrine to Girodmeo for finding a way to only
- 19:44Speaker 5: lose by six on Sunday. I think you kind of
- 19:48Speaker 5: watched the game. It felt a little bit more lopsided
- 19:50Speaker 5: than that. But can't you make an argument for him
- 19:55Speaker 5: that by making some of the decisions that he did,
- 19:58Speaker 5: you know, like everybody like we got the postgame email
- 20:01Speaker 5: that was like, well, there's thirteen points. They would have
- 20:03Speaker 5: won the game if he had just gone for it.
- 20:06Speaker 5: Like why are we just blindly assuming they would have
- 20:08Speaker 5: gotten it every time?
- 20:09Speaker 8: Right?
- 20:10Speaker 5: You know, they were clearly going to go for it
- 20:12Speaker 5: on fourth and one when they were down whatever it
- 20:15Speaker 5: was eleven, No, no, they were down nine. They cut
- 20:19Speaker 5: to six with that field goal. Yeah, yeah, they were
- 20:21Speaker 5: down nine and they were going to go for it
- 20:23Speaker 5: and they had I think they had some kind of
- 20:24Speaker 5: a trip play dialed up.
- 20:26Speaker 7: Looked like a direct snap.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Was going to be a direct snap, and Jalen Poll
- 20:32Speaker 5: commits a false start right like I just there has
- 20:37Speaker 5: to be a happy medium between the coach needs to
- 20:39Speaker 5: lose his job every time they lose a game, and
- 20:42Speaker 5: everything is great. This team is playoff bound when they
- 20:45Speaker 5: win a game, because when they beat Chicago, people were
- 20:47Speaker 5: talking about a path and now the next the very
- 20:49Speaker 5: next week, they lose and the guy's gotta go. People
- 20:54Speaker 5: for us, not for us. I mean one of the
- 20:56Speaker 5: major Boston radio stations said they were going to go
- 20:59Speaker 5: six and one down the stretch the morning show.
- 21:01Speaker 7: They can win six in a row.
- 21:03Speaker 6: Is that not one of your channels?
- 21:05Speaker 7: Those are your one of your shows.
- 21:06Speaker 5: But I think about one of my shows on the
- 21:08Speaker 5: other channel.
- 21:09Speaker 7: The only gripe that I have with the game in
- 21:12Speaker 7: game decisions that he makes are it doesn't feel like
- 21:15Speaker 7: there's a rhyme or reason to a lot of them,
- 21:18Speaker 7: and I think that the inconsistencies is just a little
- 21:21Speaker 7: odd and and to Paul's point, each situation is different
- 21:25Speaker 7: and you have to go on a case by case basis.
- 21:28Speaker 7: But they go for two in London, they don't go
- 21:30Speaker 7: for two this time. They line up to go for
- 21:33Speaker 7: it on fourth down at the end of the game
- 21:35Speaker 7: down nine, but they didn't go for it on fourth
- 21:37Speaker 7: and two from the goal fourth and goal from the
- 21:39Speaker 7: two earlier. Like there's just it just seems and by
- 21:42Speaker 7: the way, he's not following the nerds either, like this.
- 21:46Speaker 7: The math is against him too on most of these,
- 21:49Speaker 7: So there's not It doesn't feel like there is a process.
- 21:53Speaker 4: No, I mean, if we're gonna have to be patient,
- 21:55Speaker 4: because yes, he's never been a head coach before, but
- 21:58Speaker 4: he's also never been a coordinator before, so like his
- 22:02Speaker 4: experience of making in game decisions, I don't know if
- 22:06Speaker 4: he's ever had to do that.
- 22:07Speaker 5: The two point conversion thing is odd to me. I
- 22:09Speaker 5: said it in the postgame. I wrote it in my
- 22:10Speaker 5: notes that posted this morning. They haven't just said, you know,
- 22:14Speaker 5: I don't have to agree with your philosophy, but you
- 22:17Speaker 5: probably should have one.
- 22:18Speaker 4: You have one.
- 22:18Speaker 5: You know, if you believe in down nine this is
- 22:21Speaker 5: what we do, then that's probably what you should do.
- 22:25Speaker 5: Because they went to a great lance to explain to
- 22:28Speaker 5: us about understanding what you need.
- 22:30Speaker 4: But I do think no you know, having the feeling
- 22:33Speaker 4: of the flow of the game and the conditions and
- 22:36Speaker 4: takes into you have to take that into consideration. And
- 22:40Speaker 4: even then he doesn't have a lot of experience.
- 22:42Speaker 5: But I think the flow of this game should have
- 22:44Speaker 5: led to going for two. Now I would go I
- 22:46Speaker 5: would kick it down nine. I would kick it every
- 22:49Speaker 5: time to make it a one score game. But if
- 22:52Speaker 5: you believe in the whole knowing what you need thing,
- 22:56Speaker 5: he doesn't. You were moving the ball much better in
- 22:58Speaker 5: this game than you were in that Jacksonville game, and
- 23:00Speaker 5: there was more time left, so if you didn't get it,
- 23:03Speaker 5: you had more time to make up for the fact
- 23:05Speaker 5: that you were still down two scores with an offense
- 23:07Speaker 5: that was performing at a higher level. So that's like
- 23:12Speaker 5: the contract, the contradictory, you know, decision there.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Is I think curious last time I listened to Evan.
- 23:19Speaker 4: This time, I'm not going to listen to ev right,
- 23:21Speaker 4: not me, not you, the other Evan, you a fault.
- 23:26Speaker 7: Also kind of me, because that's the need.
- 23:30Speaker 6: I'm reminded a little bit of Dan Campbell though in
- 23:32Speaker 6: his first year, how he seems so gung ho and
- 23:34Speaker 6: you just knew what to expect and it was like,
- 23:36Speaker 6: take it or leave it. We're going for We're going
- 23:38Speaker 6: for it, We're going to be aggressive always.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Game here was just illustration.
- 23:41Speaker 7: That's exactly what I was going to bring up. Like
- 23:43Speaker 7: that game here in twenty two, everybody eviscerated Dan Campbell
- 23:47Speaker 7: because they went for fourth down like five times and
- 23:49Speaker 7: we're zero for five. Yeah, and and rightfully so, maybe
- 23:52Speaker 7: like it definitely put them in a tough spot. But
- 23:55Speaker 7: over the course of time, now the Lions are really
- 23:58Speaker 7: good in the go forward situations because they practiced it.
- 24:01Speaker 7: You know that they practice what they preach. And now
- 24:05Speaker 7: that they go for it all the time on fourth down,
- 24:07Speaker 7: they are one of the best fourth down conversion teams
- 24:11Speaker 7: in the NFL.
- 24:11Speaker 5: It also costs them a trip to the super Bowl,
- 24:13Speaker 5: it might have.
- 24:14Speaker 7: But it's just a philosophy, right, That's what I mean.
- 24:17Speaker 7: Have a philosophy one way or the other, that's all.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:19Speaker 6: Yeah, But I used the Chargers an example too, of
- 24:21Speaker 6: a team that was very aggressive on fourth and never But.
- 24:24Speaker 5: This is why I don't have to agree with your philosophy,
- 24:26Speaker 5: but it's I think it's important to have one.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Yeah, Well, and your philosophy becomes your identity. That's who
- 24:32Speaker 4: you become as a team, right.
- 24:34Speaker 6: I think that's what's missing too. I mean I think
- 24:35Speaker 6: that that's especially on defense, Like I don't see any
- 24:38Speaker 6: identity other than Christian Zalez is pretty good coverage man. Offensively,
- 24:43Speaker 6: they're starting to emerge, and that's Drake May I would
- 24:45Speaker 6: say almost entirely. He is their identity. And that's what's
- 24:48Speaker 6: another part of going back to what I said at
- 24:50Speaker 6: the top, where it's just hard week to week when
- 24:53Speaker 6: you don't know who you are or what you can
- 24:55Speaker 6: hang your hat on or what you know, what can
- 24:57Speaker 6: we just go back to this, we know we can
- 24:58Speaker 6: do this. Let's go back like they can't even pick
- 25:00Speaker 6: up a third and one right.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Now, I know. But to go back to what Paul said,
- 25:05Speaker 4: knowing you can do certain things, a lot of times
- 25:09Speaker 4: it's because you know you have good players that can
- 25:12Speaker 4: do it.
- 25:12Speaker 5: Yea.
- 25:13Speaker 4: And right now they're under there. They don't have the
- 25:15Speaker 4: horses and they can't consistently do those things.
- 25:19Speaker 5: But you can make the argument for what Evan and
- 25:21Speaker 5: Mike are talking about, like in Dan Campbell's first year,
- 25:24Speaker 5: they and have the horses to convert those and they didn't,
- 25:28Speaker 5: and that's why they went three thirteen and one, but
- 25:30Speaker 5: he was letting his team know, this is how we're
- 25:32Speaker 5: going to play, and we're gonna get good enough that
- 25:35Speaker 5: we're going to be start to convert these And I
- 25:39Speaker 5: do think this is why I'm not exonerating Mao like
- 25:42Speaker 5: I did the fourth and two. I think you can
- 25:45Speaker 5: make a solid argument either way. I don't think this
- 25:47Speaker 5: is one of those like that's a terrible decision, that's
- 25:50Speaker 5: you know, you should fire him no matter what he did.
- 25:53Speaker 5: But I right now would be to the point I'm
- 25:55Speaker 5: three and eight, I'd be going for those because I
- 25:58Speaker 5: would be wanting to try to establish the stuff that
- 26:01Speaker 5: Mike is talking about that Detroit did that Evan's talking
- 26:03Speaker 5: about with Dan Campbell, like this is how we're going
- 26:06Speaker 5: to play. You know, they keep saying we want to
- 26:08Speaker 5: be a tough team to play against. We want to
- 26:10Speaker 5: be a you know, a pain in the ass to
- 26:12Speaker 5: play against. That's a pain in the ass when you
- 26:15Speaker 5: go for fourth downs and you force that defense. You
- 26:19Speaker 5: know what, don't just be happy with three and out.
- 26:21Speaker 5: Don't run off the field fourth down. We did our job.
- 26:24Speaker 5: No no, no, no, you got to stop us another.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Play And it sends a message to your defense too, Okay,
- 26:29Speaker 4: we don't get hard to play on there too. Now
- 26:32Speaker 4: you do your job.
- 26:33Speaker 5: And I thought it was telling that, you know, there
- 26:35Speaker 5: was Rams coaches that were very surprised on that particular
- 26:40Speaker 5: one that they that they kicked the field goal. They
- 26:42Speaker 5: were expecting them to go for it. So and again
- 26:45Speaker 5: I'm not killing Mayo. I think what he by doing
- 26:48Speaker 5: it the way he did, he eventually gave his team
- 26:51Speaker 5: a chance to win at the end. It's undeniable because
- 26:54Speaker 5: if they if they had gone for it and gotten stopped, Yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 5: that's probably the end of the game. Right there is
- 26:59Speaker 5: twenty one to ten I think it was at the time,
- 27:01Speaker 5: and the Rams were red hot. Yeah, you know, so
- 27:04Speaker 5: they make it twenty eight ten forget about it.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Yeah. So yeah. I think as Mayo sees more things,
- 27:12Speaker 4: as he you know, is involved in more of this
- 27:16Speaker 4: situational football, he'll develop his own philosophy and his own identity.
- 27:22Speaker 4: But it's going to take time and you either be
- 27:25Speaker 4: patient or I think you could become one of those
- 27:28Speaker 4: teams where you're cycling through coaches and I hope they
- 27:32Speaker 4: don't do that. Now.
- 27:32Speaker 6: I wonder what his offseason is going to look like
- 27:34Speaker 6: and if he, you know, tries to commit to one
- 27:36Speaker 6: side or the other, maybe you know, like at looking
- 27:38Speaker 6: at this at this year as a whole, do I
- 27:41Speaker 6: you know, does like I think that's the bolding question.
- 27:43Speaker 6: Do you need to be more aggressive based online? Do
- 27:44Speaker 6: you want to you know, impart more confidence in your team?
- 27:47Speaker 6: But but just one thing that kind of sticks in
- 27:50Speaker 6: my in my craw is that, you know, fred you
- 27:52Speaker 6: said that they're not talented, and it's like, I want
- 27:55Speaker 6: Remandra Stevenson to be able to pick up a fricking
- 27:57Speaker 6: yard when you need it. I gotta have it yard.
- 27:59Speaker 6: If you're gonna give a running back in the middle
- 28:01Speaker 6: of his twenties an extension for three years, I want
- 28:04Speaker 6: to believe that that's a guy who I think you know,
- 28:06Speaker 6: David Montgomery, Jamior Gibbs. I'd feel pretty good fourth and
- 28:08Speaker 6: one them going for it.
- 28:09Speaker 4: You watch the but you watch the game. You watch
- 28:13Speaker 4: the game, you watch those plays. Did he not pick
- 28:17Speaker 4: it up because of him or it's just no one
- 28:21Speaker 4: could have picked it up. I don't know.
- 28:22Speaker 6: I'm just well, I mean, he would have probably picked
- 28:23Speaker 6: it up Week one, you know, that week when he
- 28:26Speaker 6: was bouncing off guys and making stuff something out of nothing,
- 28:28Speaker 6: you know, I mean, I mean, look, you're right, there's
- 28:30Speaker 6: no question the offensive line, it's all connected. If he's
- 28:32Speaker 6: getting hit three yards in the backfield, it's hard to
- 28:34Speaker 6: have that kind of confidence. But at the same time,
- 28:37Speaker 6: here we are in week twelve and we can't get
- 28:40Speaker 6: a yard. I mean, that's the bottom line. You know,
- 28:42Speaker 6: we can feel great about Drake May, but if you're
- 28:44Speaker 6: gonna be a tough team, third and one that should
- 28:46Speaker 6: be a money down for a tough team.
- 28:48Speaker 7: I haven't loved their play calls in those situations. It
- 28:53Speaker 7: feels very vanilla, like we're just gonna run Remandra into
- 28:56Speaker 7: the line of scrimmage and hope he can get a yard.
- 28:59Speaker 7: I'll say it again. Why Drake May's legs are not
- 29:02Speaker 7: a factor in those situations is beyond me. Like, even
- 29:06Speaker 7: if he's just there to hold the backside of the
- 29:08Speaker 7: defense for an extra beat to maybe create a cup
- 29:11Speaker 7: back lane, it just doesn't make any sense to me.
- 29:13Speaker 7: Why you have this extremely mobile quarterback and then you
- 29:17Speaker 7: get into third and one and you don't incorporate it
- 29:20Speaker 7: or make the defense respected.
- 29:22Speaker 5: That's gotta be coming.
- 29:23Speaker 4: It's got to be coming. Let's go back to like
- 29:26Speaker 4: establishing who you want to be, you know, maybe you know,
- 29:31Speaker 4: And again maybe I'm thinking too much for May Mayo
- 29:34Speaker 4: and Van Pelt, but maybe like, yeah, we could we
- 29:36Speaker 4: could have Drake may bail us out every time. But
- 29:39Speaker 4: we want to be a team that when we need
- 29:42Speaker 4: a yard, we can run Rimonde Steve, but.
- 29:45Speaker 7: He can into the line, can still run him though,
- 29:48Speaker 7: it's just like option.
- 29:52Speaker 5: What's wrong with doing it the way Evan said, like
- 29:55Speaker 5: the way Buffalo be Kansas City.
- 29:56Speaker 4: No, there's nothing wrong with I don't think that.
- 29:58Speaker 5: Was like but I don't think that that was like, well,
- 30:03Speaker 5: that's because they couldn't line up and run. Like No,
- 30:04Speaker 5: it's fourth and two and they said, we're going to
- 30:07Speaker 5: put the ball in the hands of our best player
- 30:09Speaker 5: and he's going to make a play because he's tougher
- 30:11Speaker 5: than them, and we're not going to kick a field
- 30:13Speaker 5: goal to make it five. We're going to get this
- 30:15Speaker 5: first down and we're going to close this game out
- 30:17Speaker 5: on offense. Drake made your best player on offense? No,
- 30:20Speaker 5: I know right now, So putting the ball in his hands,
- 30:23Speaker 5: I think that's coming. That's gonna Oh, they don't want
- 30:25Speaker 5: him to run as much right, And I think they're
- 30:28Speaker 5: right for not wanting that, but they're are. I mean,
- 30:31Speaker 5: what was it like three for ten now in the
- 30:33Speaker 5: last two games in the red zone. Yeah, I gotta
- 30:36Speaker 5: think his own reader two might help that.
- 30:38Speaker 4: And for a while they were pretty good in the
- 30:40Speaker 4: red zone.
- 30:40Speaker 5: Right, Well, Jerrod continues to tell us how they had
- 30:43Speaker 5: touchdowns on like eight of their previous nine trips.
- 30:45Speaker 6: Like, great, now we're in the doldrums. You gotta get
- 30:50Speaker 6: out of it.
- 30:50Speaker 7: I just what you said off the top of the
- 30:52Speaker 7: show about gassing up Drake may I. I would be
- 30:57Speaker 7: shocked if he doesn't get to the podium tomorrow and
- 31:01Speaker 7: talk about the interception more than he talks about the
- 31:03Speaker 7: good things, Like that's just the vibe that he's given
- 31:07Speaker 7: from the jump, like he yeah, I made some great plays,
- 31:10Speaker 7: but I also had the ball in my hands with
- 31:11Speaker 7: a chance to win the game and I threw it
- 31:13Speaker 7: to the other team.
- 31:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:14Speaker 7: And I just feel like he's a like he's win
- 31:18Speaker 7: or lose right, Like where he could make he could
- 31:20Speaker 7: throw for four hundred yards in the loss, and I
- 31:22Speaker 7: don't think he's going to be satisfied with losing. So
- 31:26Speaker 7: I don't necessarily look at that I honestly look at
- 31:28Speaker 7: it in the other direction where I hope he doesn't
- 31:31Speaker 7: get too down on himself for the way that some
- 31:34Speaker 7: of these end of games have gone, because you know,
- 31:37Speaker 7: he played fantastic for fifty eight minutes on Sunday. His
- 31:41Speaker 7: last two plays of the game were his worst two plays.
- 31:44Speaker 5: In the sack isn't getting nearly No, the sack was
- 31:47Speaker 5: just as bad.
- 31:48Speaker 7: But he played. You know, I had him with fifteen
- 31:51Speaker 7: plus plays to three minus plays through the first fifty
- 31:54Speaker 7: eight minutes of the game. I mean just outstanding, Like
- 31:57Speaker 7: he was just incredible, and in structure like Paul's thing, right,
- 32:00Speaker 7: like not running around and making plays like that, like
- 32:03Speaker 7: making plays from the pocket and making throws on time,
- 32:07Speaker 7: in rhythm against pressure. You that it was It was
- 32:12Speaker 7: a great It was fun.
- 32:13Speaker 5: You know what else? I thought he did better in
- 32:16Speaker 5: this game than I've seen him as just taking the
- 32:19Speaker 5: easy money every once in a while, just checking it down,
- 32:22Speaker 5: you know, tossing what I mean, no big yardage place.
- 32:24Speaker 5: But when Henry said, some of those guys, some of
- 32:26Speaker 5: the especially young guys, they just want to show you
- 32:30Speaker 5: that the arm every time, you know, and he has that.
- 32:33Speaker 5: He certainly made enough of those throws, but just the
- 32:36Speaker 5: willingness to throw it to Hunter Henry once in a
- 32:38Speaker 5: while even Stevenson, even though Stevenson didn't do much with him.
- 32:41Speaker 5: I think he had four catches for sixteen yards. Just
- 32:44Speaker 5: the willingness to take the checkdown at times showing another
- 32:48Speaker 5: step to me.
- 32:48Speaker 4: And the pressure was coming and he either stepped one
- 32:52Speaker 4: way or another didn't. I don't think he had one
- 32:54Speaker 4: ball bat it down. I think there might have been
- 32:56Speaker 4: one tip.
- 32:56Speaker 5: I think yeah, yeah, there was one till yeah, the
- 32:59Speaker 5: third down.
- 32:59Speaker 6: Throw to Pop Douglas. I watched that a few different
- 33:02Speaker 6: times where he came across his.
- 33:04Speaker 5: Body safety blitz coming from one side, he jumps into
- 33:07Speaker 5: the hit on the other side, sort of adjusted his
- 33:09Speaker 5: arm angle and threw it this way right on right,
- 33:13Speaker 5: on the right, on the three right, and it allows
- 33:16Speaker 5: tomorrow Douglas turn it up twenty yards twenty six yards.
- 33:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it was a look that one.
- 33:20Speaker 7: Was crazy, like watching it from the end zone angle like,
- 33:23Speaker 7: because he's got the safety or the backer right there
- 33:26Speaker 7: that's dropping off the line of scrimmage and he's playing
- 33:28Speaker 7: a game with that linebacker trying to keep him from
- 33:30Speaker 7: falling underneath Douglas's route. So He's staring to his right
- 33:34Speaker 7: and Douglas is crossing to his left, and he's like this,
- 33:37Speaker 7: and then at the last second he throws it to
- 33:38Speaker 7: his left right where and like to be able to
- 33:41Speaker 7: throw that from that platform on the money like that,
- 33:45Speaker 7: Like it's one thing to complete the pass, but to
- 33:46Speaker 7: throw it to him in stride so that he can
- 33:48Speaker 7: turn up field right, it's a special thrill.
- 33:50Speaker 4: And that's the other thing. The other thing that noticeably
- 33:55Speaker 4: I saw improvement was the accuracy, especially that first half.
- 33:59Speaker 4: Every ball was right where the receiver needed it to Beah,
- 34:03Speaker 4: I mean, it was just a shame that it didn't
- 34:05Speaker 4: end up in a w but he had a really
- 34:08Speaker 4: good game.
- 34:08Speaker 6: Yeah, it's pretty remarkable. Like I mean, I've watched Mac Jones,
- 34:11Speaker 6: i mean as a rookie and go into his career,
- 34:14Speaker 6: and you know, it felt like he in the early
- 34:16Speaker 6: part of the you know, let's not get carried away,
- 34:18Speaker 6: but early but never felt like, wow, Max really improving,
- 34:21Speaker 6: Like it just kind of felt like he was what
- 34:23Speaker 6: he was. Like, I really feel you can tangibly see
- 34:26Speaker 6: how Drake May has improved.
- 34:27Speaker 4: I mean, his.
- 34:28Speaker 6: Footwork just how comfortable he looks in the pocket. I mean,
- 34:31Speaker 6: we watched these jto Sullivan things. I mean, I know
- 34:33Speaker 6: Evan does his own breakdown to where you really highlight
- 34:36Speaker 6: the footwork. That was one of the early things a
- 34:38Speaker 6: lot of the video they did with him, and just
- 34:40Speaker 6: some of that subtle stuff, like you can really see
- 34:42Speaker 6: the progress that this kid is making. And you know
- 34:45Speaker 6: that to me, like, we knew he had the arm,
- 34:47Speaker 6: and we knew he had the size, and the physical
- 34:48Speaker 6: talents were all there, but I just I think you've
- 34:50Speaker 6: really seen him improve. And that's what's just so encouraging
- 34:53Speaker 6: to me, because I don't remember feeling like, wow, Mac
- 34:56Speaker 6: is really making strides, like he was just kind of
- 34:58Speaker 6: there and that's Mac was who he was. But with Drake, however,
- 35:01Speaker 6: many games we've watched him for what three months now,
- 35:04Speaker 6: I mean, I it's it's noticeable. It's noticeable the way
- 35:07Speaker 6: that game when.
- 35:07Speaker 7: He was coming out of college, the game he played
- 35:10Speaker 7: on Sunday was the game that everybody told me he
- 35:12Speaker 7: couldn't play, which was just short and intermediate throws in
- 35:16Speaker 7: rhythm from the pocket, not the deep ball, not the
- 35:19Speaker 7: out of structure stuff, but just playing conventional offense that
- 35:23Speaker 7: he wouldn't be consistent and with his accuracy because of
- 35:26Speaker 7: his footwork and his mechanics and all this other stuff,
- 35:29Speaker 7: that he would lose control of the ball too often.
- 35:32Speaker 7: And on Sunday he that's how he played, like they
- 35:35Speaker 7: his average are yards was like five point four yards.
- 35:37Speaker 7: He had one throw over twenty yards in the air.
- 35:39Speaker 7: Like it just that was the offense. Like it was
- 35:42Speaker 7: conventional short and intermediate passing. Thought it was a great
- 35:45Speaker 7: game plan against this Rams defense. You know, it's a
- 35:47Speaker 7: great pass rush. You don't want him holding the ball
- 35:49Speaker 7: for him.
- 35:49Speaker 5: And they were good, Like it came in with a
- 35:52Speaker 5: lot of reputation for those young guys and they were good.
- 35:55Speaker 5: They flashed all of them.
- 35:57Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 35:57Speaker 6: Can I ask you guys a question, is there any
- 35:59Speaker 6: part of you that worries though? And I don't want
- 36:00Speaker 6: to get I don't want to get negative on May,
- 36:02Speaker 6: but gotta worry the May sprays, Like do you do
- 36:05Speaker 6: you worry that that's going to be a thing with him,
- 36:07Speaker 6: that he's going to have a couple throws every game
- 36:11Speaker 6: that aren't what we're looking for and might go to
- 36:13Speaker 6: the other team. And you know, as a part of
- 36:14Speaker 6: the worries, he's not going to be able to clean
- 36:16Speaker 6: these things up as he continues in his career.
- 36:18Speaker 5: I don't have much.
- 36:20Speaker 7: Yeah he had to. I mean the pick was obviously
- 36:22Speaker 7: I guess what you're you're getting at. I mean, you know,
- 36:24Speaker 7: that was kind of the only one that I did.
- 36:26Speaker 7: I really thought the screen.
- 36:28Speaker 5: Maybe maybe you guys are right, Maybe he just overthrew it.
- 36:31Speaker 5: No matter where to Mario Douglas was. But I think
- 36:35Speaker 5: there was a miscommunication. And I'm not telling you it
- 36:37Speaker 5: wasn't Drake's fault. It might have been maybe he thought
- 36:40Speaker 5: he was going to sit in another thing. But maybe
- 36:42Speaker 5: Douglas was right not to sit in that cover two hole.
- 36:45Speaker 5: I was doing a lot of cover.
- 36:48Speaker 6: Tell us about tomorrow, maybe we can get Actually, at the.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Very least, you should have one eye back at the
- 36:56Speaker 4: quarterback to see what's going on.
- 36:57Speaker 5: Right, So it's no, it depends what he's supposed to.
- 37:00Speaker 5: It depends I don't know what he's supposed to do, Like,
- 37:03Speaker 5: is he like what Mike just said, Like, I don't
- 37:05Speaker 5: know what what his job is on that he might
- 37:08Speaker 5: have looked at it and said, I can clear like
- 37:10Speaker 5: they're sitting here now. I personally think that there's been
- 37:13Speaker 5: a lot of I heard some talk yesterday that could
- 37:15Speaker 5: have been a touchdown, like if he holds it a
- 37:17Speaker 5: split second longer and allowed him to clear where he
- 37:20Speaker 5: ended up, he ended up being open all the guys
- 37:22Speaker 5: that were back there. As Evan just said, that was
- 37:25Speaker 5: the reacting.
- 37:27Speaker 4: To the to the quarterback to the throw.
- 37:29Speaker 7: Yeah, so they're in a they're in a tricks coverage
- 37:31Speaker 7: or palm or a poach. Really where like the safety
- 37:35Speaker 7: that takes Henry, Henry's number three to the strong side
- 37:39Speaker 7: to the passing strain, So he's like locked into a
- 37:41Speaker 7: crosser from Henry. So he's going to take that safety
- 37:44Speaker 7: with him. And then the route design is that Pop
- 37:47Speaker 7: is going to fill in that space. So once that
- 37:50Speaker 7: safety attaches to Henry, Drake supposed to throw to Pop.
- 37:53Speaker 7: So that's where he was going with the read. I mean,
- 37:55Speaker 7: like in terms of like should he have sad or
- 37:57Speaker 7: should he have kept going?
- 37:59Speaker 5: I don't, I don't know. I mean, certainly Drake I thought,
- 38:01Speaker 5: did the perfect thing the quarterback should do and say
- 38:05Speaker 5: it was me. Yeah, it's on me.
- 38:07Speaker 7: I just thought the throw was high anyways.
- 38:09Speaker 5: Like it may have been. That's why I said Mike
- 38:10Speaker 5: might be right that might have been a spray.
- 38:12Speaker 7: And h Demandra Jacobs. The one hurry that I had
- 38:15Speaker 7: him allowing one on one was on that play, and
- 38:18Speaker 7: I think that I have contributed maybe a little bit.
- 38:20Speaker 7: He didn't you know, it wasn't able to really step
- 38:23Speaker 7: into the throw because there was pressure. But he you know,
- 38:27Speaker 7: looking at it from the end zone angle, if it's
- 38:30Speaker 7: if it's Hunter Henry who's six foot five, then maybe
- 38:33Speaker 7: you can make a case that that Pop Douglas would
- 38:35Speaker 7: have been able to catch that. But I think with
- 38:37Speaker 7: Pop it, you know, being what he is, I just
- 38:40Speaker 7: don't see him being able to catch it.
- 38:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it seemed something was the timing was off there
- 38:45Speaker 4: because as Pop left, I mean the ball was way
- 38:51Speaker 4: over you know, like the safety who caught it was
- 38:54Speaker 4: about six seven yards behind Pop.
- 38:57Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why Mike might be right, might have just
- 38:59Speaker 5: overshot everything. I will say live when the ball left
- 39:02Speaker 5: his hands, because you could see Douglas kind of fush.
- 39:06Speaker 5: I was like, oh they got a shot for a
- 39:08Speaker 5: chunk play here.
- 39:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:09Speaker 5: And then you know, obviously you saw.
- 39:11Speaker 4: The way the way May was leading receivers throughout the game.
- 39:17Speaker 4: It seems weird that all of a sudden, like he's
- 39:19Speaker 4: throwing behind a guy, so there.
- 39:21Speaker 5: Was something thrown behind him. He thought he was going
- 39:23Speaker 5: to be here at The question is was Douglas right
- 39:26Speaker 5: to keep going or was May wrong?
- 39:29Speaker 4: Well, that's what I mean, Like if the play was
- 39:31Speaker 4: for him that I was going to stop, you would
- 39:34Speaker 4: like he didn't miss, Like literally the ball ended up
- 39:36Speaker 4: fifteen yards away from Tomorrio Douglas.
- 39:38Speaker 5: Yeah, he didn't underthrow him by that much, right, do
- 39:41Speaker 5: you know what I mean? He thought he was going
- 39:43Speaker 5: to be here. You can make an argument that he
- 39:45Speaker 5: overthrew it regardless, like Evans point, there's no way Douglas
- 39:48Speaker 5: is catching right because he's not big enough. I would
- 39:51Speaker 5: probably agree with that that maybe it wasn't a great throw,
- 39:55Speaker 5: but somebody didn't read read.
- 39:57Speaker 4: It right, ye speaking of smaller guys, No, I didn't.
- 40:03Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm not gonna guess. I don't know who it
- 40:06Speaker 7: was like who it was, But I felt like I
- 40:09Speaker 7: kind of knocked Drake for the throw, Like I just
- 40:11Speaker 7: I didn't think it was catchable for a five foot
- 40:13Speaker 7: eight receiver, Like if you have T Higgins in a
- 40:16Speaker 7: year and he's six ' four and he's coming over
- 40:18Speaker 7: the middle, like maybe, uh, you know, he could have
- 40:21Speaker 7: elevated and made that catch. But but now we're with
- 40:24Speaker 7: pop No.
- 40:26Speaker 4: One guy I want to call out who he's starting
- 40:29Speaker 4: to grow on me is your guy, Marcus Jones. And
- 40:32Speaker 4: not just for his receiving, I mean his returning growing,
- 40:37Speaker 4: Like the more the more and more I see him
- 40:39Speaker 4: putting his nose in and run support like a small guy.
- 40:42Speaker 4: But he is not afraid to get dirty. Yeah uh
- 40:45Speaker 4: and make tackles up near the line. So I got
- 40:48Speaker 4: to give him a lot of credit for that. So
- 40:50Speaker 4: I'm hoping that I'm hoping that his coverage skills, you know,
- 40:55Speaker 4: continue to improve. But he's a he's a good player
- 41:00Speaker 4: for the Pacers. Yeah, it's just.
- 41:01Speaker 6: Unfortunately he's little. You know, That's that's just always going
- 41:05Speaker 6: to be something that the other team is is probably
- 41:07Speaker 6: gonna look the target he's you know, just that's something
- 41:10Speaker 6: you're gonna have to deal with if you play him
- 41:11Speaker 6: on defense and this, well, you're gonna have to.
- 41:12Speaker 4: Figure out his role, you know.
- 41:14Speaker 6: When I I he's not a boundary corners. With the
- 41:18Speaker 6: boundary he can stick. But yeah, yeah, I mean I
- 41:21Speaker 6: love seeing him on offense a little bit. I Mean,
- 41:23Speaker 6: it was good to see that I like that too,
- 41:25Speaker 6: you know, continuing to just try to produce explosive plays
- 41:29Speaker 6: and put your explosive players in position with the ball.
- 41:31Speaker 7: I thought the second snap was even better because they
- 41:34Speaker 7: built off the first snap. I don't think we've seen
- 41:36Speaker 7: enough of that where they called something early on in
- 41:39Speaker 7: the game and then they run a similar action later
- 41:42Speaker 7: in the game, but it's built off of it into
- 41:44Speaker 7: something different. So to see them give him the end
- 41:48Speaker 7: around now puts it in the defense's head. Okay, they
- 41:51Speaker 7: will hand it to him, so now we fake it
- 41:53Speaker 7: and then we throw the screen going in the other direction.
- 41:55Speaker 7: I thought the screen should have had more yards, honestly, I.
- 41:58Speaker 5: Thought, and why do you think it didn't?
- 42:01Speaker 7: The running back.
- 42:04Speaker 5: Thank you? Yeah, so I got some not from Fred.
- 42:08Speaker 5: I mean, in full defense of Fred here, you weren't
- 42:10Speaker 5: the one that's Matt was really sort of adamant. Like,
- 42:13Speaker 5: I just thought there was some place to be made
- 42:15Speaker 5: with the running back in space in that game. I
- 42:17Speaker 5: thought a couple of those checkdowns should have been more
- 42:20Speaker 5: than four yard games. Again, I don't know why this
- 42:24Speaker 5: seems to be the only run back in the league
- 42:26Speaker 5: that when you recover your own fumble, it's Okay, that's five. Now,
- 42:30Speaker 5: five fumbles for a running back in one season is
- 42:33Speaker 5: a lot of fumbles, right, Yeah, so I had him
- 42:36Speaker 5: on the bad list and got a lot of pushback.
- 42:38Speaker 5: That's it's And in that play that you were talking
- 42:42Speaker 5: about is one that really stuck out in my mind.
- 42:44Speaker 5: I don't know how that guy was able to make
- 42:46Speaker 5: that tackle.
- 42:47Speaker 7: Yeah, it's been brewing with him, I think a little bit.
- 42:50Speaker 7: And I thought some of this week. I thought it
- 42:52Speaker 7: was a little bit better against Chicago. I did not
- 42:54Speaker 7: think he saw the field well running the ball between
- 42:57Speaker 7: the tackles. This week, I thought it was a little
- 42:58Speaker 7: bit better. But he doesn't make anybody miss. You know
- 43:01Speaker 7: that whatever the attrition of the season, whatever it is,
- 43:04Speaker 7: that might be part of it. Yeah, you know, he doesn't.
- 43:07Speaker 7: He doesn't break tackles anymore. He's in space or he's
- 43:10Speaker 7: got a defensive back to bead or whatever, and he does.
- 43:14Speaker 4: You think that the early fumbling has limited him, has
- 43:17Speaker 4: changed his style enough where he's not as explosives.
- 43:21Speaker 7: It's a good point, like maybe he feels though, you know,
- 43:23Speaker 7: he's got to protect the balls, so you can't be
- 43:26Speaker 7: as creative with the football in his hands as he
- 43:29Speaker 7: wants to, but you know, to deuce his point when
- 43:31Speaker 7: you're paying a running back like they're paying him, you know,
- 43:34Speaker 7: when you're one on one with the safety, like I
- 43:36Speaker 7: would like to see you break that tackle, you know,
- 43:39Speaker 7: I mean, that's that's what you're paying.
- 43:41Speaker 5: E've been talking about the sequencing the plays a little
- 43:44Speaker 5: bit well, you know, with a much different type of plays,
- 43:47Speaker 5: but kind of similar to the way they set up
- 43:49Speaker 5: the Jalen Polk touchdown in Chicago. You know, they showed
- 43:53Speaker 5: the formation with Polk on the right side, they ran
- 43:56Speaker 5: the ball out of that formation, showed that Polk would
- 43:58Speaker 5: come down and make the block. They give the same
- 44:01Speaker 5: look to the left side, and this time they sneak
- 44:04Speaker 5: him out for an easy touchdown, right. You know, like
- 44:07Speaker 5: I think that's I think vam Pelt has done a
- 44:10Speaker 5: better job of sort of. You know, it's never gonna
- 44:12Speaker 5: be perfect, and no one's ever gonna be I was
- 44:14Speaker 5: never happy with Josh McDaniels either, you know, like, no
- 44:17Speaker 5: one's ever gonna just say wow, every play call was
- 44:20Speaker 5: exactly what I would have done. No one's ever gonna
- 44:22Speaker 5: say that.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I lest they all work.
- 44:26Speaker 7: I know, you know it's gonna come to the defensive
- 44:29Speaker 7: van Pelt a little bit. I think any now, look,
- 44:32Speaker 7: if the offense falls apart over the last six games,
- 44:35Speaker 7: I'll change my mind. But any calls for his job
- 44:39Speaker 7: or for him to be replaced going into next season,
- 44:42Speaker 7: I think is crazy. I think he's done a really
- 44:44Speaker 7: nice job. Like they have no talent on that side
- 44:47Speaker 7: of the ball, besides Drake, like they have, they have
- 44:50Speaker 7: no line, they have no receivers. They're running back is
- 44:53Speaker 7: average right now. I would say Henry. They have Henry,
- 44:57Speaker 7: they have Pop Douglas, whose usage is really starting to
- 45:00Speaker 7: be very good. I think, you know, slants, crossers, you know,
- 45:04Speaker 7: Gadget plays like they're getting him involved in the ways
- 45:06Speaker 7: they should. And Drake's playing great, and so what just
- 45:10Speaker 7: because he's not you know, the sexy higher he's not
- 45:13Speaker 7: Ben Johnson or something like this, You're you're gonna change
- 45:16Speaker 7: offensive coordinators on Drake May going into year two like that?
- 45:19Speaker 7: I think is just crazy. Like that, that's a terrible
- 45:22Speaker 7: thing to do.
- 45:23Speaker 9: For especially if Drake has really come to but with him, well,
- 45:26Speaker 9: all you have to do is watch this week's Patriots
- 45:28Speaker 9: Unfiltered TV show and you'll hear my take on Alex
- 45:33Speaker 9: van Pelt to let me know what you for.
- 45:35Speaker 4: It's right there next to you in writing.
- 45:38Speaker 7: Oh, you wrote it out.
- 45:39Speaker 5: I'll check that out.
- 45:40Speaker 4: The script out everyone, I'll check out. Producer needs to
- 45:43Speaker 4: see the script.
- 45:43Speaker 5: When when Fred's food is here and he eats that, I.
- 45:47Speaker 7: Will you just hear so much of that, Like if
- 45:49Speaker 7: Brian Dable gets fired by the Giants, the Patriots should
- 45:52Speaker 7: hire him as offensive coordinators, Like, okay, let's just throw
- 45:55Speaker 7: out the playbook or replace the entire system.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Then you become one of those two. Yeah, that's a
- 45:59Speaker 4: great I'm keep Alex. Let's let's start it right now.
- 46:06Speaker 6: I know there's a lot of work to be done,
- 46:07Speaker 6: but I feel pretty good at this moment. Like I'm
- 46:09Speaker 6: not sure I can't quite like get my my temperature
- 46:12Speaker 6: test because the one hand, I'm like frustrated certainly with
- 46:14Speaker 6: the defensive side of the ball. But when you have
- 46:16Speaker 6: you really legitimately feel like you have the quarterback, Like
- 46:19Speaker 6: even when Drake when excuse me, when Mac was playing, well,
- 46:22Speaker 6: you were still kind of like, yeah, but is it
- 46:24Speaker 6: ever going to be enough? And with Drake it feels
- 46:27Speaker 6: like it can be good enough and they just have
- 46:29Speaker 6: to build around him. They've got they've got a lot.
- 46:31Speaker 4: Of work to do, but you need to do that.
- 46:33Speaker 5: I'm not sure Mac ever had a game as good
- 46:35Speaker 5: as that one. Yeah, the Cleveland one is one that
- 46:42Speaker 5: stands out. Mike and I talk about it a lot.
- 46:44Speaker 5: That Rode to Born trow to Henry.
- 46:46Speaker 4: The game against the Ravens, he had a decent game.
- 46:50Speaker 7: Three turnovers, remember that. Ye, No had some really good
- 46:53Speaker 7: throws in that game.
- 46:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought he did.
- 46:54Speaker 5: But yeah, he was a mad cried Yeah, and it
- 47:00Speaker 5: his tenure to be honest.
- 47:01Speaker 4: With Yeah, what about the win against Miami? Here? Was
- 47:05Speaker 4: that a good game?
- 47:08Speaker 5: Not only not a good game? Never happened?
- 47:11Speaker 4: Oh?
- 47:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think he ever beat Miami, well, certainly
- 47:14Speaker 5: not with Tua did not play?
- 47:16Speaker 7: Did they beat He beat the Skylar Thompson Dolphins?
- 47:19Speaker 6: Right?
- 47:19Speaker 7: Was that still?
- 47:19Speaker 4: Yeah? I thought that I had every couple.
- 47:22Speaker 6: There were a couple of backup wins.
- 47:24Speaker 4: But all right, let's get to the TEA hotline eight
- 47:26Speaker 4: five five paths five hundred. We'll start with Christian in Virginia.
- 47:32Speaker 4: What's up, Christian?
- 47:35Speaker 10: Hey, guys, that was gone good.
- 47:39Speaker 11: I agree. I was on Fretz boat going into the game.
- 47:42Speaker 11: I thought this might have been the game, but you know,
- 47:45Speaker 11: I can't say I'm too upset with the outcome. You know,
- 47:50Speaker 11: I think our pick is still going to be pretty high,
- 47:52Speaker 11: and I think we saw a lot of promise out
- 47:55Speaker 11: Drake May. It was funny you guys started talking about
- 47:58Speaker 11: running backs because that's what I was calling in about.
- 48:00Speaker 11: I think it's a sneaky need for the team, and
- 48:05Speaker 11: looking at some of the free agents and also the draft,
- 48:10Speaker 11: I don't know if we'd really want to use one
- 48:12Speaker 11: of our draft picks on a running back this year.
- 48:16Speaker 11: There are some older people bouncing around the league right
- 48:20Speaker 11: now that I'd be interested in if we could get
- 48:23Speaker 11: them at the right Guys like James Connor and Naji Harris,
- 48:31Speaker 11: although I know Naji Harris is looking for money there.
- 48:35Speaker 11: I think another name to look out for is Davante
- 48:38Speaker 11: Williams from the Broncos. He hasn't shown the most promised
- 48:42Speaker 11: but seems like the situation there in Denver is a
- 48:49Speaker 11: little shaky. With Peyton at.
- 48:51Speaker 5: Coach's Toll, he's well lost. He doesn't look like a
- 48:58Speaker 5: guy who's ever responded to the town a cl He's
- 49:00Speaker 5: not been the same guy to me. Well, yes, but
- 49:03Speaker 5: I would take a flyer on him because I think,
- 49:06Speaker 5: you know, it's kind of like the old Bill theory
- 49:08Speaker 5: of this talent there, and it's a you know, as
- 49:10Speaker 5: a pressed asset, take a shot.
- 49:13Speaker 6: I would I disagree. I'd look at the draft. I'd
- 49:15Speaker 6: look at just day three. I do think it's in need,
- 49:17Speaker 6: but I'm kind of over veteran running backs. Like you
- 49:20Speaker 6: signed Antonio Gibson for a couple of years. He's Gottenmander
- 49:22Speaker 6: in a contract, get some young legs, get some else.
- 49:25Speaker 5: It depends entirely on who it is. Like I would
- 49:29Speaker 5: have obviously been in your camp, but like, look what
- 49:31Speaker 5: Sequon Barkley's done for Philadelphia. You know, Josh Jacobs, you
- 49:35Speaker 5: know a lot of those guys changed changed teams last year.
- 49:38Speaker 5: Joe Mixon was dominant again last night for Houston. A
- 49:41Speaker 5: lot of those running backs changed teams last year, and
- 49:44Speaker 5: almost all of them have had an impact. Jacobs has
- 49:46Speaker 5: been good with Green Bay, Barkley's been great with the Eagles.
- 49:50Speaker 5: Mixing has been really good with with Houston. We saw firsthand,
- 49:54Speaker 5: you know, Mixing had a great game here in Foxborough.
- 49:56Speaker 5: So I don't know, like James Connor kind of intrigued
- 50:00Speaker 5: I'm kind of out on Najie Harris. I don't think
- 50:03Speaker 5: he's that guy.
- 50:03Speaker 6: Yeah, But like I was about to push back on
- 50:07Speaker 6: you a little bit, Paul, But I also feel like
- 50:08Speaker 6: they've got like a bunch of cap space this year,
- 50:10Speaker 6: and I feel like they have to spend money. They
- 50:13Speaker 6: have to spend money.
- 50:14Speaker 5: If I can just get to a point and you
- 50:17Speaker 5: guys can argue which players and Evan will tell me
- 50:20Speaker 5: the analytics of this guy and his EPA and all
- 50:24Speaker 5: that stuff, I don't care who it is. Can we
- 50:26Speaker 5: just stop saying fill in the blank makes a lot
- 50:31Speaker 5: of sense if we can get him at the right price.
- 50:33Speaker 5: Can we just stop saying that?
- 50:35Speaker 4: Well, no one's saying that anymore, are they? He just
- 50:37Speaker 4: said it at the right price.
- 50:40Speaker 5: Like Naji Harris is looking for money. So I don't
- 50:42Speaker 5: know if Yeah, and I'm not picking on Christian because no,
- 50:46Speaker 5: But if Christian said is what everybody says.
- 50:48Speaker 4: If you like Naji Harris, go get him.
- 50:50Speaker 5: Right and you have the money and the cap is
- 50:52Speaker 5: not restrictive anymore. Like just especially with Drake May as
- 50:55Speaker 5: a rookie.
- 50:56Speaker 6: It kind of goes to the conversation we have where
- 50:58Speaker 6: we talk about receiver. Everyone wants to talk about receiver,
- 51:00Speaker 6: and there's T. Higgins is out there, and he's the
- 51:02Speaker 6: only guy who's twenty five, twenty six, and.
- 51:04Speaker 5: That's the highly productive, not a great crop of a
- 51:07Speaker 5: great crop.
- 51:08Speaker 6: And so you've got to spend money. So you might
- 51:11Speaker 6: not be able to spend it on Tee Higgins because T.
- 51:13Speaker 6: Higgins is the you know, what do they call it?
- 51:15Speaker 6: The bell of the ball of this cycle unless you know,
- 51:17Speaker 6: unless you want to look older. So maybe maybe there
- 51:19Speaker 6: is a situation where even though you did just sign
- 51:21Speaker 6: Remondra to a deal and you've got Antonio Gibson who
- 51:24Speaker 6: hasn't really done much, seems like he's you know, falling
- 51:26Speaker 6: by the wayside a little bit. Like maybe it does
- 51:28Speaker 6: make sense just because look, we don't it's not a
- 51:30Speaker 6: huge need, but we love this player, we got the money,
- 51:33Speaker 6: we know we can get them. Let's just go make
- 51:35Speaker 6: our team better and figure it out once we get it.
- 51:37Speaker 4: I mean, if you're looking for a wide receiver one
- 51:39Speaker 4: in the free agency, you might have to extract him
- 51:42Speaker 4: from a team.
- 51:42Speaker 12: Right Like, look at a trade last year Higgins guy,
- 51:47Speaker 12: but I wos but he's really the only high level
- 51:51Speaker 12: guy available.
- 51:52Speaker 6: Which means he's like under thirty.
- 51:54Speaker 5: It's and I'm not telling you that I would shy away,
- 51:56Speaker 5: but it's going to be a bidding war. Yeah, and
- 51:58Speaker 5: I don't mind winning it.
- 51:59Speaker 7: Let's win it.
- 52:00Speaker 5: But it's hard to win it. And he's gonna have choices,
- 52:02Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying.
- 52:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean you feel about like an Amari Cooper
- 52:06Speaker 6: or Stefan Diggs or you know, like those kinds of
- 52:10Speaker 6: those are that's the other guys who are good. But
- 52:12Speaker 6: you know, you think those guys in their early thirties,
- 52:14Speaker 6: you're looking at a team ork.
- 52:15Speaker 5: I just I take a shot at Cooper, but my
- 52:16Speaker 5: guess is Baltimore, Baltimore Buffalo is going to retain him.
- 52:20Speaker 7: I would just look at when with the running backs.
- 52:23Speaker 7: I would never advocate for signing a vetter running back.
- 52:25Speaker 7: I think it's a waste of money. But you got
- 52:28Speaker 7: to improve the offensive line if you block better in
- 52:31Speaker 7: the run game, and Remandra is perfectly capable of picking
- 52:34Speaker 7: up the yards. I just think a lot of what's
- 52:36Speaker 7: happened with him is that he's getting hit in the
- 52:38Speaker 7: backfield a ton, and that has an attrition on a
- 52:42Speaker 7: running back over the course of a season that it
- 52:44Speaker 7: wears him down and now he's not the guy he
- 52:47Speaker 7: was in the first month of the season anymore. So
- 52:49Speaker 7: if you have less runs where he's got three guys
- 52:52Speaker 7: hanging on him, then things will get better. So I
- 52:55Speaker 7: focus on the offensive line.
- 52:56Speaker 5: You know, I'm with you with the running back. I'm
- 52:58Speaker 5: a running back gist much like I'm an offensive lineist.
- 53:01Speaker 4: It don't matter.
- 53:02Speaker 5: But I do think that Christian's point the caller, they're
- 53:07Speaker 5: lacking at that position, and a guy like Javonte Williams,
- 53:11Speaker 5: You're not gonna it's not gonna break the bank. So
- 53:13Speaker 5: like it's not like it's gonna cast you anything. I
- 53:17Speaker 5: kind of agree with Evan. I'll go through the roof
- 53:19Speaker 5: for t Higgins, you know, I'll go through the roof
- 53:22Speaker 5: for an elite edge rusher. I don't want to go
- 53:24Speaker 5: through the roof running back because I just don't think
- 53:26Speaker 5: it's that important, because I don't want to spend the
- 53:28Speaker 5: money with the money. But I do think you could
- 53:31Speaker 5: get a guy that's better than what you have to
- 53:35Speaker 5: add to Stevenson, and I think that, you know, Gibson
- 53:39Speaker 5: had some flashes early in the year. It's been two months, yeah,
- 53:42Speaker 5: really since he's.
- 53:44Speaker 7: The coaching staff doesn't seem thrilled with whatever's going on
- 53:46Speaker 7: with him, because I think he runs the ball well
- 53:48Speaker 7: when they give him the opportunities.
- 53:49Speaker 5: But I would agree with you about that.
- 53:51Speaker 6: Seems like he's just starting to get more opportunities.
- 53:53Speaker 7: Yeah, but you look at him, you know, just thinking
- 53:56Speaker 7: about this when I was writing after further review, like
- 53:59Speaker 7: you on defense, now all of a sudden have some
- 54:01Speaker 7: significant needs on that side of the ball. So when
- 54:04Speaker 7: you start to think about spreading out resources, like you
- 54:07Speaker 7: know you need the left tackle, you know you need
- 54:09Speaker 7: the wide receiver, but you also probably need another corner.
- 54:12Speaker 5: What's the corner market? Like, I haven't looked at that.
- 54:14Speaker 7: So the corner market, I haven't looked at the names,
- 54:17Speaker 7: but corners that they like the kind of guy they need,
- 54:21Speaker 7: which is just like a reliable veteran outside corner because
- 54:25Speaker 7: they don't need the number one like they have that.
- 54:27Speaker 7: Those guys move a lot, so they might be able
- 54:30Speaker 7: to find you know, I'm thinking of like Buffalo gets
- 54:33Speaker 7: like 'restaul Douglas and he comes in and really kind
- 54:36Speaker 7: of does a nice job for them, like they don't
- 54:38Speaker 7: need you know, prime Durell reeves like they have this,
- 54:41Speaker 7: but they.
- 54:42Speaker 5: Could get it, but you could get you know, like
- 54:43Speaker 5: a lugerious sneed last year. You know, like it doesn't
- 54:46Speaker 5: have to be like just completely a number two guy
- 54:49Speaker 5: because you do have the money to go.
- 54:51Speaker 7: Now.
- 54:52Speaker 5: I got Gonzales still in his rookie contract too. It
- 54:55Speaker 5: works at all positions, right right, you know, so, Okay,
- 54:57Speaker 5: he's Gonzalez is my number one. I can bring in
- 54:59Speaker 5: this guy who's someone else's number one as the number two,
- 55:03Speaker 5: and I can pay him more because I have another
- 55:05Speaker 5: year or two before I have to pay big money
- 55:07Speaker 5: to Gonzales.
- 55:08Speaker 6: Yeah, it just goes back to my earlier point where
- 55:11Speaker 6: ideally you'd love to say they've got a bunch of
- 55:13Speaker 6: casts base, they're gonna go get a starting left tackle,
- 55:15Speaker 6: they're gonna get an elite wide receiver. Like those players
- 55:17Speaker 6: might just not exist. So maybe it does result in
- 55:19Speaker 6: like you said, like, let's just go get a second
- 55:22Speaker 6: number one cornerback because he's out there and we can
- 55:24Speaker 6: get him, and we'd rather spend on somebody that we
- 55:27Speaker 6: know is gonna be good than trying to we miss
- 55:29Speaker 6: out on t Higgins. Let's go, you know, down the
- 55:31Speaker 6: list to the next guys. Like those kind of things.
- 55:33Speaker 6: Maybe it's surprising, maybe they all of a sudden at
- 55:35Speaker 6: a position we're not really expecting.
- 55:37Speaker 7: Agree, That's where I'm sort of trending with the veteran
- 55:40Speaker 7: stuff because I think you can buy defense, Like I
- 55:43Speaker 7: think guys on defense move you know, edge rushers, corners,
- 55:48Speaker 7: inside linebacker. I think is another one where you know
- 55:51Speaker 7: you lose.
- 55:52Speaker 5: Like Patrick Queen. Yeah, going from Baltimore to.
- 55:54Speaker 7: Pittsburgh, you lose by and now you have you can't
- 55:58Speaker 7: stop the run, like I don't think that's a coincidence, right,
- 56:00Speaker 7: like he and so now you need some depth behind
- 56:03Speaker 7: him because if that happens again, then you're just gonna
- 56:05Speaker 7: be in the same exact spot. So like outside corner.
- 56:09Speaker 7: Uh I don't think Jonathan Jones love them great patriot.
- 56:12Speaker 7: I think it's probably time back then. So so maybe
- 56:15Speaker 7: he moves to safety. Uh So Jonathan Jones, Marcus Jones
- 56:19Speaker 7: is a slot. He's a nickel corner.
- 56:21Speaker 5: You gotta pay absolutely point it out, not a boundary corner.
- 56:24Speaker 7: No, So you gotta have that outside corner opposite Gonzales.
- 56:28Speaker 7: You probably need another edge rusher that can get after
- 56:31Speaker 7: the past. So you probably need an inside linebacker, like,
- 56:34Speaker 7: so to doce his point, like, just go pay those guys.
- 56:37Speaker 4: Yeah, Jordan's and Evanston what's up Jordan?
- 56:43Speaker 13: Hey guys, I just wanted to start it off by
- 56:48Speaker 13: saying that I love your guys' analysis. It's definitely a
- 56:52Speaker 13: form of therapy for me. So yeah, I appreciate everything
- 56:55Speaker 13: you guys do and everything you put out there.
- 56:57Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 56:58Speaker 13: Thank I guess I have three points. So my thoughts
- 57:02Speaker 13: about the Rams game are kind of like bittersweet. I
- 57:06Speaker 13: love how Drake played. I love that I felt like
- 57:09Speaker 13: he was calm in the pocket. It wasn't like defaulting
- 57:12Speaker 13: to scrambling. Who's playing in system, And as much as
- 57:17Speaker 13: I love watching him scramble, I just don't think that's
- 57:20Speaker 13: a sustainable way to live for him. So it's really
- 57:24Speaker 13: great to see his growth in that way, especially from
- 57:28Speaker 13: last week and the last few weeks actually, and hopefully
- 57:32Speaker 13: he just keeps trending in the right direction. And I
- 57:35Speaker 13: absolutely love the kid.
- 57:36Speaker 11: He's awesome.
- 57:37Speaker 13: It was a great draft pick, unlike Jalen Polk, but
- 57:41Speaker 13: that's a whole other discussion. He's only noticeable for his
- 57:46Speaker 13: screw up, so that's just and then I guess my
- 57:52Speaker 13: second point would be, even though the office looked functional
- 57:56Speaker 13: first first time in a long time, it's just like
- 57:59Speaker 13: crazy to think back to last year where our defense
- 58:01Speaker 13: was holding us into games and our offense couldn't do
- 58:05Speaker 13: anything at all. Like if they could do anything, we
- 58:07Speaker 13: could have won a few games. And now it's like
- 58:09Speaker 13: completely the opposite.
- 58:11Speaker 11: Well maybe that's too dramatic, but you.
- 58:14Speaker 13: Know, like our offense is finally doing something and our
- 58:16Speaker 13: defense is not helping out at all. Really frustrating that
- 58:22Speaker 13: we are everybody's get right game. And like the Rams
- 58:25Speaker 13: didn't throw a touchdown last game and they for four
- 58:28Speaker 13: of this game. It's like it's just frustrating to see.
- 58:33Speaker 13: And I guess my last point is I felt like
- 58:36Speaker 13: the Rams could do anything that they wanted offensively. Outside
- 58:40Speaker 13: the first quarter. They seemed to figure out what the
- 58:42Speaker 13: Patriots were doing defensively, like so quickly, and when it
- 58:47Speaker 13: came time to like make that decision to punt the
- 58:51Speaker 13: Rams did in the fourth, I felt like they were
- 58:54Speaker 13: just thinking that the pass wouldn't be able to march
- 58:58Speaker 13: down the field and even if they did, they'd be
- 59:01Speaker 13: able to, you know, just get get.
- 59:04Speaker 10: More points after that.
- 59:06Speaker 13: So I feel like they could have killed us in
- 59:08Speaker 13: that in that like at that point they could have
- 59:11Speaker 13: like stepped on our throats, but they didn't. They kept
- 59:15Speaker 13: us in the game, which, don't get me wrong, that
- 59:18Speaker 13: was very entertaining as a Pats fan, Like, great, we
- 59:21Speaker 13: have a chance to win, but I feel like they.
- 59:23Speaker 8: Didn't have to do that.
- 59:24Speaker 13: They could have killed us right there. But I just
- 59:27Speaker 13: felt like the Rams were in control basically the whole game.
- 59:32Speaker 13: And I just heard Girod say something along the lines
- 59:36Speaker 13: of like they felt like the Patriots were in control
- 59:38Speaker 13: the whole game, which I just don't agree with. Yeah,
- 59:42Speaker 13: I guess I'll get your guys' thoughts on that.
- 59:44Speaker 4: All right, Thanks Jordan. Good call. He did say that,
- 59:48Speaker 4: and we were all raising our eyebrows when he did.
- 59:51Speaker 4: But then he followed up by on defense not so
- 59:53Speaker 4: much so I think again he talked so fast. I
- 59:57Speaker 4: don't think he said it right, but I think I
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: think what he was saying on offense, we felt like
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: we controlled again in.
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: The first quarter, I thought the Patriots were in control. Yeah,
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: but once you know, and even like the Rams' first
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: two possessions featured like twenty plus yard plays, right.
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: Yeah, right, they tried to run the ball twice in
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: a row, two run stops, third down off the.
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: Field, so you're getting like one, you know, one play,
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: and they were able to get off the field when
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: they were kind of on the heel. I think every
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: drive the Rams had went into Patriots territory except for one.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: I think there was one three and out in the
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: whole game that they didn't get into Patriots territory. The
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: last three quarters, the Rams completely had control of the game.
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: I would agree with Jordan on that, and I do agree.
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: Also they could have kicked a field goal there, but that's,
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: you know, that's a shaky proposition. The kicker hasn't been great.
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: He's a rookie, he's been a little bit hot and cold.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: He had missed a twenty whatever yard are shortest missed
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: field goal in the NFL all year, So he said,
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: why not make them go eighty to ninety yards instead
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: of you know, sixty, And I think she's right. I
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: think Sean McVay might have been thinking, even if the
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: disaster happens, all all need is a field goal to
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: win it. And I've been moving the ball all day.
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: I know when the other team's scoring quickly, time of
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: possession really gets thrown out the window. But when's the
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: last time the Patriots had the ball forty minutes and lost.
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: One of those stats?
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: This was like thirty seven. But yeah, it is very
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: deceiving because there was an eleven snap period that the
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: Rams scored four touchdowns. Yeah, like right, you can only
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: score a touchdown, can't. You can't possess the ball any
- 1:01:42Speaker 5: longer once you get to the end zone, right, you know.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: I feel called it eleven minutes of hell yeah, and it.
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: Was totally right.
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, all right, my foods here, So let's take

- 1:03:09Speaker 16: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh No,
- 1:03:14Speaker 16: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:03:17Speaker 16: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx. Where
- 1:03:21Speaker 16: now mean's next for residential delivery.
- 1:03:23Speaker 17: Only, Stacy, you know kind of what I said last night. Look,
- 1:03:29Speaker 17: it's always disappointing to lose a game, especially here at home.
- 1:03:33Speaker 17: I thought we did a lot of good things. I
- 1:03:35Speaker 17: would also say, you know, we lack execution in some
- 1:03:39Speaker 17: of the critical times in the game that we really
- 1:03:42Speaker 17: need to convert. And that's what a good football team is.
- 1:03:44Speaker 17: And let the guys went out there and played with energy,
- 1:03:47Speaker 17: They played hard, they played tough. I thought, offensively, you know,
- 1:03:51Speaker 17: I did a pretty good job executing the game plan,
- 1:03:53Speaker 17: you know, and then special teams wise, I would say,
- 1:03:56Speaker 17: you know, there were things that we left out there
- 1:03:58Speaker 17: on the field. And then defensively, obviously the receivers were
- 1:04:02Speaker 17: a huge issue for us, and you know, you never
- 1:04:05Speaker 17: want to give up big plays. You know that that
- 1:04:07Speaker 17: played a cup definitely hurt us as far as momentum
- 1:04:11Speaker 17: and things like that in the game. But look, got
- 1:04:13Speaker 17: to go back to the drawing board. We have enough
- 1:04:15Speaker 17: talent in that room, in the locker room to win
- 1:04:18Speaker 17: football games. And I stand by that. And I have
- 1:04:20Speaker 17: to be better because you have to be better than players.
- 1:04:22Speaker 17: Got to be better. But we have enough talent in there,
- 1:04:24Speaker 17: and looking forward to these guys changing the page and
- 1:04:27Speaker 17: continue to get better as we move forward.
- 1:04:31Speaker 18: Well opened up with questions. Well started like race, followed
- 1:04:34Speaker 18: by Chris.
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: I'm girod.
- 1:04:36Speaker 19: You mentioned the cup touchdown, and I want it's always
- 1:04:40Speaker 19: easier to ask questions when you know the result of
- 1:04:42Speaker 19: the play at that point in the game. It's second
- 1:04:46Speaker 19: and nine, looked like you guys sent seven rushers, and
- 1:04:49Speaker 19: I guess I thought I wanted to ask you, how
- 1:04:51Speaker 19: comfortable are you with that level of aggressiveness in the
- 1:04:54Speaker 19: sense of, hey.
- 1:04:56Speaker 18: They made they made the play right, you still got
- 1:04:58Speaker 18: to make it. But at the same time, you know,
- 1:05:02Speaker 18: the risk reward is.
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: What I'm asking you. Hit it on the head, the
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: risk reward, and you know, we felt like that was
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: a good time to call that blitz.
- 1:05:09Speaker 17: We've called it, you know, a couple of times in
- 1:05:11Speaker 17: the game, and sometimes it was a run play and
- 1:05:13Speaker 17: it gave us some movement up front, you know when
- 1:05:16Speaker 17: that happened. Yeah, on that big play, it was just
- 1:05:19Speaker 17: h we didn't get there in time and it was
- 1:05:21Speaker 17: poor coverage on the outside.
- 1:05:23Speaker 19: And then I'm following up and you're comment about just
- 1:05:26Speaker 19: the critical situation sometimes coming through with the plays the
- 1:05:29Speaker 19: red zone offense. I think you even made the point
- 1:05:32Speaker 19: you were an eight of nine in red zone offense
- 1:05:36Speaker 19: prior to these last two games. Sure it's tailed off
- 1:05:39Speaker 19: a little bit as you've looked at those those situations.
- 1:05:43Speaker 19: What what is the common thread you're seeing there that
- 1:05:47Speaker 19: has led to the decline there.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: I would just say overall, probably just a lack of execution.
- 1:05:53Speaker 17: Even yesterday. You know, you look at it. You know
- 1:05:55Speaker 17: we're in a short yarded situation and didn't get a penalty.
- 1:05:58Speaker 17: You have to move back or attackle for a loss,
- 1:06:00Speaker 17: and then you know, things kind of change. But we
- 1:06:03Speaker 17: just have to be better. We have to be better
- 1:06:04Speaker 17: in protection. We've got to do you know, as the
- 1:06:06Speaker 17: as the field starts to contract or shorten. I mean, look,
- 1:06:10Speaker 17: there are other players in the box that we just
- 1:06:12Speaker 17: got to be precise.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: And NEXTU.
- 1:06:18Speaker 18: Next question, Chris price fold Chris right.
- 1:06:21Speaker 8: Draw it.
- 1:06:22Speaker 20: I'm curious a day later, any regrets. I know it's situation,
- 1:06:25Speaker 20: that's right for a second guessing, but any regrets about
- 1:06:28Speaker 20: punting and when when you had a chance to kick
- 1:06:31Speaker 20: maybe a long ish field goal there to go up
- 1:06:34Speaker 20: ten nothing early on?
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I don't. I don't want to use the
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: word regrets.
- 1:06:38Speaker 17: But look, I've been very open, yeah, being a first
- 1:06:42Speaker 17: year head coach, like I'm learning as well, and it's
- 1:06:45Speaker 17: a good experience.
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: And like you said, hindsight is twenty twenty.
- 1:06:49Speaker 17: But that was the decision I made during the game
- 1:06:51Speaker 17: that I thought gave us the best chance to win
- 1:06:53Speaker 17: the football game.
- 1:06:55Speaker 18: Thank you, Thanks us, Chris Ryan, followed by Derek Kayt.
- 1:07:00Speaker 21: Hey Rod Hootball as well with you just kind of
- 1:07:02Speaker 21: building on that. Do you feel that as a coach,
- 1:07:06Speaker 21: so you want to an establish, you know, an identity
- 1:07:08Speaker 21: when it comes to those types of situations like obviously
- 1:07:10Speaker 21: certain coaches you know they're gonna go four and fourth down,
- 1:07:13Speaker 21: you know, no matter what, or they're gonna they're gonna
- 1:07:15Speaker 21: kick a field.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: Goal as opposed to punt.
- 1:07:17Speaker 21: Like do you do you feel like you need to
- 1:07:19Speaker 21: have an overriding philosophy when it comes to that or
- 1:07:21Speaker 21: is it a case by case type situation.
- 1:07:23Speaker 17: Yeah, in my opinions, the case is like how the
- 1:07:25Speaker 17: game is going with the flow of the game is
- 1:07:27Speaker 17: like and like I said, you know in the moment,
- 1:07:30Speaker 17: and I always feel like I'm making the right decision,
- 1:07:32Speaker 17: and it's very easy to look back and say, well,
- 1:07:34Speaker 17: I wish I would have done X, Y, and Z,
- 1:07:37Speaker 17: and that would be multiple situations like you can go
- 1:07:39Speaker 17: back to the London game and then some of the
- 1:07:40Speaker 17: same situations showed up yesterday and if you execute we're
- 1:07:44Speaker 17: not having this conversation. But but you know, as I said,
- 1:07:48Speaker 17: as I say here today, look, it's it's one hundred
- 1:07:50Speaker 17: percent on me and I have to be better.
- 1:07:52Speaker 21: The other thing you mentioned is that there's enough talent
- 1:07:54Speaker 21: in the room to win games. Did you always, you know,
- 1:07:57Speaker 21: believe that or do the guys have to kind of
- 1:07:59Speaker 21: show that through the course of the year, Like after
- 1:08:01Speaker 21: the Jacksonville game, you've obviously have been a much more
- 1:08:02Speaker 21: competitive team. So did that question kind of get answered?
- 1:08:07Speaker 18: Did you already know the answer to it?
- 1:08:09Speaker 17: Yeah, I've always believed that we had talent in the room.
- 1:08:11Speaker 17: I've always believed that, you know, we have tough, smart,
- 1:08:14Speaker 17: dependable guys in the room. And I saw that in
- 1:08:16Speaker 17: the weight room during the spring, when that's where you
- 1:08:19Speaker 17: really first see like how tough your football team is.
- 1:08:22Speaker 17: And you know, we just got to continue to try
- 1:08:24Speaker 17: to put those guys in a situation that they can
- 1:08:25Speaker 17: be successful in one games.
- 1:08:28Speaker 18: Thank you, Thank you, Doug, Kai, Sophie welcome.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: Thank you more and Drod.
- 1:08:35Speaker 22: Mike was asking earlier about the aggressiveness that you guys
- 1:08:38Speaker 22: showed on the on the flaw of blitz on the
- 1:08:42Speaker 22: big play by Cooper Cup. It does feel like some
- 1:08:44Speaker 22: of the fourth down decisions have been a little bit
- 1:08:47Speaker 22: more conservative. Have you been mindfully going more risk averse
- 1:08:51Speaker 22: on those fourth down decisions or it's just is that
- 1:08:55Speaker 22: just the way that you felt in the moment.
- 1:08:57Speaker 17: As all, as I've said, you know, throughout the season,
- 1:08:59Speaker 17: especially the last three weeks, I've alluded to you know,
- 1:09:03Speaker 17: the coordinators and coaches and myself, we've done a decent job,
- 1:09:06Speaker 17: a good job of staying ahead of ahead of the game. Now,
- 1:09:09Speaker 17: there are certain situations where all right, look we're going
- 1:09:12Speaker 17: for it right here, and then it's a tackle for
- 1:09:13Speaker 17: a loss. And I'm not just talking about this game.
- 1:09:15Speaker 17: I'm talking about, you know, just the seasons as a whole.
- 1:09:18Speaker 17: There are situations where you have to be ready to change.
- 1:09:21Speaker 17: And look, as I continue to evolve as a coach,
- 1:09:23Speaker 17: as the players continue to grow and develop up, we'll
- 1:09:26Speaker 17: see what happens.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: But it is it's a case by case basis, and.
- 1:09:29Speaker 22: Just one quick fall up as well. I know you
- 1:09:31Speaker 22: had a chance to watch the film by this point,
- 1:09:33Speaker 22: what'd you think of Christian Barmore's performance in his return?
- 1:09:37Speaker 17: Yeah, yeah, I would say, first and foremost, it was
- 1:09:40Speaker 17: just good to see him out there. You know, there
- 1:09:42Speaker 17: are definitely things we had to work on, and I
- 1:09:43Speaker 17: would say the number one thing is just pad level.
- 1:09:45Speaker 17: You know, it was really his first time being in
- 1:09:47Speaker 17: pads and look forward to him continue to progress.
- 1:09:50Speaker 18: Thank you, Thanks Sophy Willer, followed by Mark Daniel Morning Gerd.
- 1:09:57Speaker 23: I was just curious Kendrick Bourne went from having no
- 1:10:00Speaker 23: snaps against the Bears to playing and got hit the
- 1:10:03Speaker 23: touchdown and all that. Just how did you see him
- 1:10:05Speaker 23: kind of respond after that adversity from the week before?
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: He responded great.
- 1:10:10Speaker 17: I think he was our leading receiver yesterday and you know,
- 1:10:12Speaker 17: just a guy that it doesn't matter what position you're
- 1:10:15Speaker 17: talking about, Like there's nothing more important than practice and
- 1:10:18Speaker 17: going out there and performing at a high level practice,
- 1:10:20Speaker 17: which I would say he had a great week of
- 1:10:21Speaker 17: practice and it transferred.
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: To the game. And then I'm curious Javon Baker.
- 1:10:26Speaker 23: We were seeing him do some punt returns, but he
- 1:10:29Speaker 23: had the fumble and then the hurdle play and he
- 1:10:33Speaker 23: was kind of out after that. Was that in response
- 1:10:36Speaker 23: to that or just giving players and their opportunity Just
- 1:10:38Speaker 23: kind of what was the thought process there?
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: You're talking about the kick returns right, Yeah, sorry, yeah,
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: no problem. Yeah.
- 1:10:44Speaker 17: So on the kick returns, you know he was back
- 1:10:46Speaker 17: there the first couple of snaps and you know, he
- 1:10:50Speaker 17: didn't execute the way that we all had hoped he would.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: I know, it was a big return.
- 1:10:54Speaker 17: Even on that big return, it was one of those
- 1:10:56Speaker 17: situations where is he coming out?
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Is knock coming out? And same thing with the second
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: kick goff return.
- 1:11:02Speaker 18: Thank you, Thanks Mark Daniels, followed by Chris Price.
- 1:11:07Speaker 24: Pedro, Good morning with with Kendrick Bourne and someone that
- 1:11:11Speaker 24: Jalen Polk For you as a coach, how difficult of
- 1:11:13Speaker 24: a balance is it, you know, having the young kid
- 1:11:15Speaker 24: in there because you need to develop them, but also
- 1:11:18Speaker 24: taking you know, a productive receiver like Kendrick off the field.
- 1:11:21Speaker 17: Yeah, you know, like I said earlier, you know, Kendrick
- 1:11:24Speaker 17: had a great game and Polka is developing and he
- 1:11:26Speaker 17: will be a good player in this league. You know,
- 1:11:29Speaker 17: as the head coach of this football team, we're trying
- 1:11:31Speaker 17: to win right now and whoever the hot hand happens
- 1:11:34Speaker 17: to be in that situation will play more.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:11:37Speaker 18: Thanks for two final questions Chris Price and Micrees.
- 1:11:43Speaker 20: Kind of piggybacking off of Doug's question, from earlier. I'm
- 1:11:45Speaker 20: curious to get your thoughts on how Yadick played in
- 1:11:48Speaker 20: his debut for you guys yesterday.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: Yeah, he did some good things.
- 1:11:51Speaker 17: I would say, you know, it was a very smart
- 1:11:53Speaker 17: individual and will continue to load up his plate this weekend.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: I anticipate him playing more as we move forward. Thanks,
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: thank you.
- 1:12:02Speaker 25: The last question Mike Ries and how significant Hurroud did
- 1:12:06Speaker 25: you see the illegal formation penalty on that they called
- 1:12:11Speaker 25: in terms of the way the game unfolded?
- 1:12:13Speaker 18: And what is the coaching point there, I guess going forward?
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: Are you talking about the low low the low? Yeah?
- 1:12:20Speaker 17: Yeah, Look, so you know the referees, I mean they
- 1:12:22Speaker 17: do a good job. You know, they give you a
- 1:12:24Speaker 17: warning before the game. Him they gave him, you know,
- 1:12:26Speaker 17: two warnings during the game and they called the third one.
- 1:12:29Speaker 17: So that's on us. And I always say, look, we'll
- 1:12:32Speaker 17: do business. This business is being done, and you've been
- 1:12:34Speaker 17: worn multiple times. You got to get on the ball.
- 1:12:37Speaker 17: But it's not it's not only Look, I know it's
- 1:12:39Speaker 17: oftentimes you know they throw the flag on a tackle,
- 1:12:41Speaker 17: but I would also say it's part you know, the
- 1:12:43Speaker 17: entire offensive line. If the guards are set to back,
- 1:12:46Speaker 17: then obviously the tackles will be back as well. And
- 1:12:48Speaker 17: you know, if you ask those guys the same question,
- 1:12:50Speaker 17: they'll give you the same answer.
- 1:12:54Speaker 18: Thanks John, Thanks everyone.
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: And now great moments in.
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: History.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: I got the neighbor that burns everything, plastic everything.
- 1:13:05Speaker 7: Now that's now that that's bad.
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: Yeah, that's even even I would say, but I don't Matt's.
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: That must be an awful smell is horrible when he
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: does it.
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: It's always the guy that burns the leaves too, and
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: it's up.
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: I don't mind leave it, but.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: It ends up with like a blaze, and the ashes
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: are coming into my yard.
- 1:13:23Speaker 7: Though when he's doing.
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: Well, you're not supposed to burn leaves. You can burn
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: brush and stuff, but not leaves.
- 1:13:28Speaker 24: You know.
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: I got a guy across the street. He's got he's
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: got his main driving paved, but then he's got this
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: back road which is all dirt, and he cults. He
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: keeps putting down woodships, and every time it rains, the
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: wood ships just drain right out into the street. He
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: doesn't get it.
- 1:13:47Speaker 26: It's like it's not gonna work. How many times are
- 1:13:49Speaker 26: you gonna do this? He keeps doing it, and it
- 1:13:53Speaker 26: keeps just running right out. Just keep it dirt or.
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: Paving sounds like all but like the.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: First time, first time you look at it, go oh
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: that didn't work, and you don't do it again. He
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: keeps doing it.
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: That's another great moment.
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: All right, it's easy to drink, it's easy to enjoy,
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: but light the official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots.

- 1:14:57Speaker 5: fill in yeah, a little fill in action.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: I like that.
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: I felt like holiday feeling.
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: For Saturday than the week holiday fill in host.
- 1:15:05Speaker 7: That's when bar shines.
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: Yeah, holiday money.
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: Years the bar.
- 1:15:15Speaker 7: He's ready to go.
- 1:15:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I draw the line of the actual holidays.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: Just give me the bag. Yeah, so that's good. You're
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: going to be on Friday week from Friday? Does anyone
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: here partaken black Friday? Never been?
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: Never been?
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: She goes out Doorbuster.
- 1:15:33Speaker 5: She has to work this year, brave soul.
- 1:15:35Speaker 7: I used to when I was a.
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: Kid, like midnight waiting for the used to do it doorbusters.
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: You guys do when I when I used to live in,
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: rent them. They have the rent them outlets, which you know,
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: Premium Outains.
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: Is still there even though you don't live in.
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: People line up on the highway at midnight to get
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: off that ramp into that place. It's unbelievable. I bet,
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: I bet it's unbelievable.
- 1:16:00Speaker 6: My mom and sisters went crazy when that place opened
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: up way back when. That's like their holidays at the mountains.
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: Solid.
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: Get whatever you need, but.
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: Just be careful about the markdowns. You know, that's what
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: the prices should be.
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: Yeah, they aren't that great.
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: That's the thing.
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: You go there looking for a deal. You got to
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: just go to Marshalls. If you're really looking for like
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: a deal on well clothing.
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: Paul and I would disagree.
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: We get a regular clothes.
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: The name brands have different lines in Marshals than they
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: do in the premium department stores. Until you know that
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: hoy for friends, just so you know that you get
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: what you paid for, and close and furniture, you get
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: what you paid for.
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: Jesus Marshalls' spot.
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: Well there to compare, Paul.
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: Right, dare to compare, and the comparison's coming out in
- 1:16:49Speaker 6: favor of Marshalls.
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: All right, We got a lot of emails coming in
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: at podcasts at Patriots dot com and just running. Remind people,
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: if you want to get the amazing PU newsletter that
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: Alex puts together every week featuring just stuff about this show,
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: all you have to do is email us at podcasts
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: at Patriots dot com and you can ask a question
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: for the show or just say I want the newsletter.
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: Either way, we'll put you into the distribution list and
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: you'll get the newsletter every week.
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: So what's it gonna do? Maybe a little tales from
- 1:17:22Speaker 6: Hollywood do section, Maybe a couple of like funny, funny,
- 1:17:25Speaker 6: charming stories perhaps for the newsletter.
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: At some point, do you have any I have to
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: come up with some I'll make come up with something.
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: I'm gonna think about it.
- 1:17:32Speaker 6: I got some good ones.
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: I got some good ones.
- 1:17:34Speaker 6: You know, random celebrity encounters might be fun, all.
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: Right, So let's get into some of the emails. A
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: lot of them coming in. Dexter in Santa Rosa, California.
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: Oh no, no, not really. I'm tired of these weird,
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: unspoken riffs that happen with our wide receiver group. KB
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: doesn't look, doesn't play, then looks like our best receiver.
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: The next week, reports are coming in, speaking and hinting
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: at a mutiny. Stay clearer, Evan. I can't help but
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: feel like Gerard is rapidly losing trust amongst the locker room,
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: especially when his decisions are easily easy to directly correlate
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: to losses. I am in no way blaming him for
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: every loss. But there is something to Paul's rant about
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: having a philosophy. Mayo is going with his gut, and
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: the players don't respect that because it's easier to buy
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: into a philosophy rather than somebody's gut. What do you
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: think about that? It's not sure what he Now, I don't.
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: I don't see what he's talking about in terms of
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: the locker room and the players believing and all that.
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: I think that the questions on his decisions are valid.
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: I think they're well, he's done a lot of things
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: that are worth second guessing. I don't think they've all
- 1:18:40Speaker 5: been wrong, but I think that they're definitely worthy of
- 1:18:43Speaker 5: different viewpoints. But I don't I think the players. I
- 1:18:48Speaker 5: think that game one Sunday was a perfect example of it.
- 1:18:51Speaker 5: That's a game that easily could have gotten out of hand,
- 1:18:54Speaker 5: and I don't know that they ever really did anything
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: to completely turn it around, but they did enough to
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: scrap and claw their way, so the Rams never were
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: able to completely put the game away until they finally
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: picked off the pass. Yeah, you know so, I think
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: that's they played hard and they continue to fight. And
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: I actually said something to Evan during the game. It
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: was kind of annoying me because it was like that
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: kind of stuff that.
- 1:19:17Speaker 7: I don't really like the referees because that was.
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: Oh, that one call was just I went on a
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: rant on the postgame show. But the constant like do
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: you see how excited they get on the sideline? You know,
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: we had the thing that that Van pel talked about
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: the pickups. You know, Trey Jacobs had all the pickups,
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: and I think that's great. It's great team, team bonding,
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: team camaraderie. You know the fact that they charted a
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: little like Harry High School for me. But the over
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: the top enthusiasm on the sideline is clearly something that
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: has been sort of ingrained from the coach. Like Javon
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: Baker had a nice kickoff returned to start the game,
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: and like you would have thought that he took it
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: to the house the way that the sideline reacted like this.
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: And I'm not saying I know how this is going
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: to come across. So Paul doesn't like any excitement. No,
- 1:20:07Speaker 5: I do like excitement, and I do think that you
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: should show enthusiasm when your team makes good plays. Bill
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: used to talk about that all the time. You should
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: be happy. It's hard. I just thought it was a
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: little over the top of it.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: Did you think did you see the sideline going to
- 1:20:18Speaker 4: be a little hypocritical here? Okay, because I didn't notice
- 1:20:21Speaker 4: it for the Patriots, but I mean, you're right they
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: were doing. But I was watching last night the Cowboys
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: in Houston, and you know, I love seeing the Cowboys lose.
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: I'm always rooting against them, but I almost turned into
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: a Cowboys fan last night because of the hooton and
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: hollering that was going on on the Texans sideline. I mean,
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: they were out of control. It was unbelieved, especially that
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: first half. Like every play was like the greatest play ever.
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: Did you notice that I didn't really watch much of
- 1:20:50Speaker 5: the Okay, yeah, Like I was like, I saw a
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: couple of nights and there I was like, this is enough.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: From the head coach on down. It wasn't just the
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: assistant coaches and players. I was like, Okay, maybe I
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: want the Cowboys to win.
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: The taking that long field goal off the board for
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: Aubrey cost me my fantasy game. I know people care
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: about that. I actually I lost my three.
- 1:21:11Speaker 7: Every week on the on the All twenty two when
- 1:21:14Speaker 7: the Patriots are on offense, I was I hate to
- 1:21:18Speaker 7: call I don't want to call much cheerleader, but like
- 1:21:20Speaker 7: the number one fan of Drake may As Jacoby Brissett,
- 1:21:24Speaker 7: and I just think that's.
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: Kind of cool, that's great. You know that.
- 1:21:26Speaker 5: I love no problem with that at all.
- 1:21:29Speaker 22: Like that.
- 1:21:29Speaker 7: I think that I love is really awesome, and like
- 1:21:32Speaker 7: I think that he's uh fully embraced like the mentor
- 1:21:35Speaker 7: role now that he's not playing anymore. And uh, you know,
- 1:21:38Speaker 7: there was one play in particular where he sprinted down
- 1:21:42Speaker 7: the sideline. I think it was the Born touchdown to
- 1:21:46Speaker 7: greet May coming off the field, and like there couldn't
- 1:21:49Speaker 7: have been a single person that was happier in that
- 1:21:51Speaker 7: stadium for Drake than to Kobe, which.
- 1:21:54Speaker 5: And that's not necessarily what I'm talking about. And and
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: I mentioned it to you join the game and you
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: kind of like you made fun of me, which you
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: probably should have because I get it.
- 1:22:01Speaker 7: We have a good time, right, I do, don't you.
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: It's hard to explain. It's like a high school kind
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: of a thing. It's it's a meant like when you
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: see in high school and you know, guys are just
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: jumping up and now whereas like in the pros, like
- 1:22:15Speaker 5: we've had a lot of success, guys, we were five
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: star recruits coming out of high school. We had all
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: American careers in college. We're used to making good plays.
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: Why do we have to like we never made a
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: good play before? You know, there was like a fine line.
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: I don't want to like squash the but I just
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: thought it was a little over the time.
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: That's how I felt about the Texans last night.
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: Well, it sounds like it's it's similar, especially in that
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: I think it's even worse for Houston last night because
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: you're beaten up on a completely banged up Dallas team.
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: What are you really doing?
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: Speaking of Jacoby Brissett, I saw him in his first
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: at least the first time I've seen him in a
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: national commercial.
- 1:22:52Speaker 7: Yes night. So I saw it last Thursday night, and
- 1:22:56Speaker 7: I'll admit I was kind of dozing off at that
- 1:22:58Speaker 7: point of the game, and so I thought maybe I
- 1:23:01Speaker 7: like dreamt it or something like that. And I woke
- 1:23:03Speaker 7: up the next day and I was like, Kobyssett was
- 1:23:05Speaker 7: definitely in that.
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: Oh yes, you know. Yeah, it's those ones where the backup, Yeah,
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: the backup he comes in as a backup accountant or
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: something like that.
- 1:23:14Speaker 5: Yeah, so they're actually doing a premise. I don't think
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: they execute it.
- 1:23:17Speaker 7: Well, I think they're actually doing it with multiple well known.
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: Backup yeah right, yeah, but it was good to say
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: Kobe getting a little love. I like that.
- 1:23:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: Uh, Claire Wright's and hello everyone and over I agree
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: with Deuce. This team is struggling for an overall identity offensively,
- 1:23:37Speaker 4: maybe it can be the tight end age team. Like
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: you said, guys said, Hunter is so dependable. I believe
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: he's a real good tight end. Hooper is even developing.
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: That's not a bad offensive identity. A great quarterback and
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: some good and productive tight ends at least until the
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: wide receivers learn how to catch. I like it, she says,
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: So can we talk about the wide receivers a little bit?
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: Sure?
- 1:23:58Speaker 7: If you can we say something positive first, you can
- 1:24:01Speaker 7: talk about whatever you want. I just I do think
- 1:24:05Speaker 7: that their tight ends are are both pretty good players.
- 1:24:08Speaker 7: And I give you Maya and Van Pelt credit for
- 1:24:12Speaker 7: kind of building this passing game around the strengths of
- 1:24:16Speaker 7: the receivers that they do have. And it's a lot
- 1:24:19Speaker 7: of Hunter Henry between the numbers, Austin Hooper, Uh, you
- 1:24:22Speaker 7: know obviously Pop and KB Booty on in cut routes,
- 1:24:27Speaker 7: you know, slants, things been breaking into the middle of
- 1:24:29Speaker 7: the field because that's what this group is good at,
- 1:24:32Speaker 7: and Drake's doing a really good job of executing it.
- 1:24:35Speaker 7: So I think that this game plan that they played
- 1:24:37Speaker 7: against the Rams like that they can execute that offense
- 1:24:41Speaker 7: like they can run an offense like that, and then
- 1:24:43Speaker 7: I hope, you hope eventually they get the outside guys
- 1:24:45Speaker 7: that he can throw deep a little bit more often
- 1:24:48Speaker 7: next year. You know, that's not gonna happen this year,
- 1:24:50Speaker 7: but maybe next year. So right now, this is the
- 1:24:53Speaker 7: personnel that they have, and they they're doing a nice
- 1:24:56Speaker 7: job of getting those guys the ball.
- 1:25:01Speaker 6: I don't know, I just like, I just try to
- 1:25:03Speaker 6: feel like I try to be positive and like I
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: you know, I I hold out hope for things to
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: work out, and I just I'm feeling pessimistic about Jalen Polk.
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: I've really lost kind of hope on him. I would say,
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: I just I really felt good.
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: I loved him.
- 1:25:15Speaker 6: He was one of the first players I watched when
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: I started the draft process. I just thought he was tough,
- 1:25:19Speaker 6: and you know, there was a lot that I liked
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: about his game. I liked him this summer. He was consistent,
- 1:25:24Speaker 6: and I rode in the A Bail Bay today that
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: I just I've never in my professional career covering this
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: team had quite the experience I've had with him where
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: I feel I believe in this player. I think this
- 1:25:33Speaker 6: player is going to be good and then to see
- 1:25:36Speaker 6: him just do nothing, and I mean to you know,
- 1:25:38Speaker 6: And I think there's probably some people talking about, like, oh,
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: the clock was gonna expire anyway on the penalty that
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: he had id. I didn't check that myself. But how
- 1:25:45Speaker 6: do you just how do you play as much as
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: he played? He didn't have a single target. He had
- 1:25:48Speaker 6: one penalty and no targets. Like it's like he's out
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: there to block, but they're not even looking towards him.
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: I just I've never seen anything quite like it, and
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: I just I'm questioning myself.
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: A little bit on well, the whole situation I had
- 1:25:59Speaker 4: Robert Gallery, you have Jaln Cook Scott write saying last
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: week you were talking about longtime listener as well. I'll
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: throw my hat in the ring. I've been listening since
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: the days of Brian Moriy What was that in two
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: thousand or two thousand and one. Yep. I almost always
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: listened to the podcast, not live, and I don't believe
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: I've ever missed an episode. Always been a favorite. I'm
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: not sure that rate's a T shirt, but if it did,
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: I'd be thrilled. Oh I'm the man A T shirt?
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: We still do that, Matt, Matt Morrele, send him a
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: T shirt. Be patient, yep, be patient, Cape Travis and
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: West Virginia. I look forward to a time when we
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: can surprise defenses by running the ball. Right now, it
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: feels like every time we run, the whole stadium knows
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: it's coming. I always thought Josh McDaniels was really good
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: at calling running plays when the defense wasn't expecting it,
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: But I realized the fear of Tom Brady throwing had
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: a lot to do with that. Also, is it the
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: pregame show or the pregame social? I thought you retired
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: the term social, but no Socks calls it that all
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: the time, not aware. I don't know. I think when
- 1:27:07Speaker 4: we first started the show we did call it the
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: pregame Social because it was on Facebook and Twitter, and
- 1:27:14Speaker 4: you know, I think it was the first pregame show
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: for a team on those suberg now, but it used
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: to be the pregame Social, the world's largest virtual.
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: Victual tail game.
- 1:27:26Speaker 6: Yeah, demented and sad, but social.
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: But now everything's on social, so it's not that big
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: a deal.
- 1:27:32Speaker 7: I feel like the runs on first Down or like
- 1:27:35Speaker 7: everyone's biggest gripe with a VP right now, it's like,
- 1:27:38Speaker 7: we're never supposed to run the ball on first down.
- 1:27:41Speaker 19: I just.
- 1:27:44Speaker 7: I think if you looked at the numbers, you'd be
- 1:27:45Speaker 7: surprised at how evenly split they actually are when it
- 1:27:49Speaker 7: comes to run pass on first down. This game they
- 1:27:51Speaker 7: were I believe they were fifty to fifty.
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: Actually last game, well, no, maybe maybe I'm talking about
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: it might be the Tennessee game. They had nine first
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: down runs in twenty one first down passes. Yeah, something
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: like that.
- 1:28:02Speaker 7: Yeah, it's not. I think that the issue is that
- 1:28:07Speaker 7: their run game has struggled a little bit, and so
- 1:28:09Speaker 7: when the ones that stand out are it's now it's
- 1:28:12Speaker 7: first and ten, Now it's second and ten because we
- 1:28:14Speaker 7: got stuffed on first down running the football, but they're
- 1:28:17Speaker 7: actually throwing the ball. Since Drake became the starter, at
- 1:28:20Speaker 7: least I kind of thrown out.
- 1:28:21Speaker 5: Yeah before that, that's all that was.
- 1:28:23Speaker 6: Before that, Yeah, I blocked.
- 1:28:25Speaker 7: Since Drake became a starter, they are actually one of
- 1:28:27Speaker 7: the more aggressive early down passing teams in the league.
- 1:28:31Speaker 7: So it doesn't really back it up.
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: I liked it for the Rams. I like the Rams
- 1:28:35Speaker 6: doing that against the Patriots. I thought they were that
- 1:28:37Speaker 6: was a smart move for them. They had success to
- 1:28:39Speaker 6: run it throwing the ball, I mean.
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: On early downs kamell and Georgian writes in he has
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: some questions. He says, I see people on X saying
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: that the illegal formation penalty was a bad call. What
- 1:28:50Speaker 4: do you guys think? I guess that's the one on low.
- 1:28:52Speaker 7: Egregiously illegal both the left tackle.
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: And the left good call.
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, they were worn twice.
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: They know because he got caught three times in a
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: row in preseason.
- 1:29:02Speaker 7: So I actually would say that that was a core
- 1:29:05Speaker 7: four not low Yeah, oh really yeah.
- 1:29:08Speaker 5: And Gerard said specifically what Mike just said, like they
- 1:29:11Speaker 5: had won them two previous times. He went over and said,
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: that's the third time I warned him twice.
- 1:29:16Speaker 27: Yeah.
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: I actually thought that there was one later in the
- 1:29:18Speaker 7: game too that could have been called again and they
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: let it go. But I would put that more on
- 1:29:24Speaker 7: Jordan because Lowe is lining up based off of the
- 1:29:27Speaker 7: guy next to him and Jordan, So Jordan, if Jordan's
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: off the line of scrimmage, then Low's going to be
- 1:29:32Speaker 7: off the line of scrimmage. So it's both of their
- 1:29:35Speaker 7: fault out of them already.
- 1:29:37Speaker 5: Now that said, okay, I'm not telling you that it
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: was a bad call. Can they just have some sort
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: of like mandate as to what I want it called
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: every time? If that's what you want. If this is
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: like this big issue for the league, that these guys
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: lining up a hair in the backfield is a huge issue,
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: then throw the flag every time it happens. I don't
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: want three one yes, right right now. If you're asking
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: me what I would prefer as a fan to watch
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: the game, just let it go. If he moves early,
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: that's a penalty. Yeah, but that ironically enough, they get
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: away with more more often than they should.
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, but guy's timing the snap a little bit.
- 1:30:18Speaker 7: I just it just thinks too that it seems to
- 1:30:20Speaker 7: happen on these great off script Drake may plays like
- 1:30:23Speaker 7: every time he makes one of the frustrating, these ridiculous plays.
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: There was a play early in last night's game. It
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: was ineligible man downfield tunsil negated touchdown by Nico Collins.
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: That was just beautiful to see. I mean, and that
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: guy runs. He's the thing about that was.
- 1:30:44Speaker 7: In Chicago when it was the illegal man downfield that
- 1:30:47Speaker 7: wiped out a good completion that Drake had it just
- 1:30:50Speaker 7: seems like the play also works every time.
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: I didn't understand the Stevenson run before the two minute
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: warning on the final drive.
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: It's a mean in all seriousness, it's a pretty common
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: practice around. You know, they know the two minute warning
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: is going to hit on this play they're hoping to catch,
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: you know. To your point, I think this is the
- 1:31:11Speaker 5: same email that said that they'd like to be less
- 1:31:13Speaker 5: predictable when they run right right, that's that's that's a
- 1:31:17Speaker 5: non predictable run that unfortunately is kind of fallen into
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: the predictable category because I think a lot of teams
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: do it. I don't really care for it, especially when
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: I have Drake May cooking. As Evan likes to say.
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: The other defense is loaded up for pass. They've got,
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: you know, smaller people out there, and you're not going
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: to kill yourself with the clock by doing it.
- 1:31:36Speaker 7: Right if it considered it a free play, basically, the
- 1:31:39Speaker 7: clock's gonna stop anyway, right.
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: And Kevin Falk always got fifteen will you guys make
- 1:31:44Speaker 5: would you guys have made the Rams punt again after
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: the penalty or take the yards?
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: So that was something we've talked about. Apparently they did decide.
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I would have made him rekick it. Yeah, I
- 1:31:53Speaker 5: would have made him rekick it and hope that he
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: doesn't get a good kickoff. I hope it goes in
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: the end zone. You get a free twenty three ten
- 1:32:02Speaker 5: yards and go out to the Like to me, you're
- 1:32:04Speaker 5: gonna start at the ten. What's the difference if if
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: he gets a better punt than that, which is not easy,
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: so you start out with the six or the four? Like,
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: is there a difference?
- 1:32:13Speaker 4: Really?
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: But I think if he puts it in the end
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: zone and you start at the twenty, there is a
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: little bit of a difference.
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: Also, the Jets fire GM Joe Douglas, what do you
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: think about that? Yeah?
- 1:32:23Speaker 7: Can I just on the punt real quick and then
- 1:32:25Speaker 7: we can talk about that. I don't mean to sound
- 1:32:28Speaker 7: like vulgar here, but I'm going to a little bit.
- 1:32:31Speaker 7: Are we sure that Gerrod like knows what he's doing
- 1:32:33Speaker 7: in those situations? Like, and I don't mean to be like,
- 1:32:36Speaker 7: I'm not trying to say that to be a jerk, Like,
- 1:32:38Speaker 7: are we sure that he has control of the situation right?
- 1:32:40Speaker 10: Like?
- 1:32:41Speaker 4: Does he?
- 1:32:42Speaker 7: Because it seems to me like those things happen and
- 1:32:46Speaker 7: he's kind of just like okay, let's just you know.
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: Let's you know what I mean, Like I just I said,
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: you said he did, I mean, he said he didn't
- 1:32:53Speaker 5: want to give them another chance to pin him closer. Now,
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: you could have made an argument that time they didn't
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: want to have another eight or ten seconds go off
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: the clock. I just don't think time was a factor.
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: You had the two minute warning coming and a time out. Yeah,
- 1:33:06Speaker 5: you weren't going to run out of time. It was
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: can you get ninety yards? I don't think time was
- 1:33:11Speaker 5: going to be a factor.
- 1:33:12Speaker 7: I just wonder if you know, are you a step
- 1:33:16Speaker 7: ahead in these situations? Right, Like obviously you're not thinking
- 1:33:20Speaker 7: that that's necessarily going to happen, but like if it
- 1:33:23Speaker 7: does happen, like what's your what's your plan? Like you
- 1:33:26Speaker 7: need to have you know, Bill would have a million.
- 1:33:29Speaker 7: Like all these things were always all like predetermined, right
- 1:33:32Speaker 7: like if we're gonna run it on third down, because
- 1:33:34Speaker 7: we're gonna go for it on fourth or we're gonna
- 1:33:36Speaker 7: you know, it just seems like we're flip flopping, he
- 1:33:39Speaker 7: said on third down. If they had gained more yards
- 1:33:42Speaker 7: on third down and we're closer, he would have gone
- 1:33:45Speaker 7: for it on fourth down, And to me, it's like,
- 1:33:46Speaker 7: what difference does it make? Like if you if you're
- 1:33:49Speaker 7: running it on third down, it's because you're telling your
- 1:33:51Speaker 7: coordinator that you have two plays to get.
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: This, but you're also not expecting to get nothing on
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: this on the third I suppose.
- 1:33:59Speaker 7: Now you're taking the all out of Drake's hands right
- 1:34:01Speaker 7: on third down, Like if Van Pelt had known that
- 1:34:04Speaker 7: they were gonna they weren't they were gonna kick the
- 1:34:06Speaker 7: field goal on fourth down. I have to think that
- 1:34:09Speaker 7: it's a different play call than what it ends up
- 1:34:11Speaker 7: being on third.
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: So I this one, I'm gonna be a little defensive
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: because I think if you if you're planning on going
- 1:34:18Speaker 5: for it on fourth down, the right thing you can
- 1:34:23Speaker 5: make an argument is to run the ball because I
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: got down to get Yeah, I agree with that. The yards.
- 1:34:27Speaker 5: So when you don't get any because you're not expecting
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: like an incomplete pass, which is nothing, Well, so now
- 1:34:34Speaker 5: how many times does that happen? And say, well, if
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: you're gonna go for a full down, why not run
- 1:34:37Speaker 5: it twice? But when you get nothing because you're not
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: expecting to get nothing, that's the fail there. I can
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: understand him thinking that way. In my mind, we have
- 1:34:47Speaker 5: two plays to get this, but I didn't realize we
- 1:34:49Speaker 5: weren't going to get any yards on the third down play.
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: I mean, I still would have gone for it. I
- 1:34:54Speaker 5: just think I talked about.
- 1:34:55Speaker 7: The ruins the process, right, because like if you're Van
- 1:34:58Speaker 7: Pelt and I had heard McDaniel's I think he was
- 1:35:01Speaker 7: on Colin Coward last week. Was it he was talking about?
- 1:35:06Speaker 7: Coward asked him how often Bill was in his ear
- 1:35:10Speaker 7: during games when he was calling plays, and McDaniels said,
- 1:35:13Speaker 7: the only thing that Bill ever talked to him about
- 1:35:16Speaker 7: with situations just like that. So Bill would come over
- 1:35:19Speaker 7: the headset and say, Josh, you have two plays to
- 1:35:21Speaker 7: get it here. So that way he calls a third
- 1:35:24Speaker 7: down knowing that he's has fourth down in his back
- 1:35:26Speaker 7: pocket if they need it. So if you're Girod and
- 1:35:29Speaker 7: you say to Van Pell, hey, we have two plays
- 1:35:32Speaker 7: to get this, that changes the third down play.
- 1:35:34Speaker 5: Call, right, But to me it changes it to a run.
- 1:35:38Speaker 7: Yeah, But like it just changes the whole thing though,
- 1:35:40Speaker 7: like it, if you're it could change it to a run,
- 1:35:42Speaker 7: It could change the type of run because like you're thinking,
- 1:35:45Speaker 7: like it you know now it's third and two. So
- 1:35:49Speaker 7: even if I only get one yard running reminder into
- 1:35:51Speaker 7: the line of scrimmage, now I'm going to do it again.
- 1:35:53Speaker 7: I'm going to do it again. Right Whereas if you
- 1:35:55Speaker 7: know that that's the only play that you.
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: Have right now, it's a two point conversion right.
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: Now, it's as certain. That's what I'm saying. I can
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: kind of give Mayo a little bit of slack there, right.
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: David new Hampshire about the field goal decision, says, I
- 1:36:09Speaker 4: think a lot of people are forgetting that it was
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: seven to nothing for that field goal decision. I've heard
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: a lot of they couldn't stop the Rams all day
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: about opting to punt, but that's objectively not true when
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: the decision was made.
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: I haven't heard any of that about that field goal.
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: That's that's the one early in the game, the fifty five, right.
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: All I've heard about that is Sly struggles and right
- 1:36:29Speaker 5: he did, and Sly himself said it after the game.
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: Yeah, especially to the banner's end of the stadium.
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: The wind was swirling and the other kicker had trouble too.
- 1:36:38Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: Now the other part of that is, and I don't
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: think this has gotten enough criticism. All we want to
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: do is make fun of Alex van Pelt and then
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: the defense. But it's another game. Another area of special
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: teams continues to hurt the Patriots. So everybody talks about
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: the block, pat No one really talks about the ensuing
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: kickoff that was returned to the thirty five yard line.
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: At thirty four yard line.
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: You talked about that last week.
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: We know, we talked about the post show, but elsewhere.
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: So there's another one. So you pass up a fifty
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: five yard field goal and then what do you do?
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: You punt the ball into the end zone. Like that's
- 1:37:12Speaker 5: just that's not what you're looking for.
- 1:37:14Speaker 7: The punter has not been good.
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: Yeah, like that's another special team's breakdown, self inflicted wounds.
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: Let's go back to the TPX hotline. Excuse me, eight
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: five past five hundred. Joe's in Delaware.
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: Hey, Joe, Joe, it's just Joe Biden.
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: Yojoe, it could be Delaware, as your president, mister President,
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: not there, All right, we'll move down. We'll move up
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: to Agawam. Patty's there. What's up? Patty?
- 1:37:45Speaker 10: Good afternoon, gents. Joe was probably just taking enough, could
- 1:37:49Speaker 10: be so I gotta say I agree with Deuce. You
- 1:37:53Speaker 10: can kind of see, like tangibly, Drake may getting better
- 1:37:56Speaker 10: every week right before our eyes. And I also wanted
- 1:37:59Speaker 10: to go back to when you guys were discussing the offseason.
- 1:38:02Speaker 10: I don't know about you guys, but to me, this
- 1:38:05Speaker 10: feels like kind of swim pickens in the series draft
- 1:38:08Speaker 10: and the free agency. I always try and look ahead,
- 1:38:11Speaker 10: no matter how good the team's doing, but there are
- 1:38:13Speaker 10: some guys in free agency that I think could help
- 1:38:16Speaker 10: the team. Like I believe DJ Regents can be a
- 1:38:18Speaker 10: free agent yep, and I think he. I think he'd
- 1:38:20Speaker 10: be a good addition as a number two corner next
- 1:38:22Speaker 10: to Gonzales and dis Eas Jilari. But aside from that,
- 1:38:27Speaker 10: I mean, I don't know, Paul. I'm with you too, man.
- 1:38:30Speaker 10: They need to they need to bolster up the depth,
- 1:38:33Speaker 10: and that's something that we've been seeing with this team.
- 1:38:36Speaker 10: I mean, if they they you know, they get behind
- 1:38:41Speaker 10: a little bit, it just seems like they can never
- 1:38:44Speaker 10: you know, put that drive, that final drive together to
- 1:38:47Speaker 10: win the game. We've seen him do it and tie
- 1:38:49Speaker 10: the game this year, but I just want to see
- 1:38:51Speaker 10: him get over that humph. Yeah, and it might have
- 1:38:54Speaker 10: to be like another couple of years before we see
- 1:38:56Speaker 10: this team seriously contend for a playoff spot.
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: Got all right, thanks Patty. They could do it next year.
- 1:39:02Speaker 7: They shouldn't need that much time. I always am weary
- 1:39:05Speaker 7: of because I've heard this one. It's not just Patty
- 1:39:07Speaker 7: about this not being a great draft class, especially when
- 1:39:12Speaker 7: you hear that it's about the top of the draft, right,
- 1:39:14Speaker 7: it's not about no one knows what pick one eight
- 1:39:16Speaker 7: six is going to be.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: But there's no quarterbacks.
- 1:39:18Speaker 7: Yeah, so there's no there's no great quarterbacks. And I
- 1:39:21Speaker 7: always push back on that because you know, we don't
- 1:39:24Speaker 7: know any of these are going to be in two
- 1:39:26Speaker 7: or three years. So you can sit there and say
- 1:39:28Speaker 7: it's not a great draft class, and you know, then
- 1:39:30Speaker 7: Will Campbell's the next Joe Thomas and Tep McMillan is
- 1:39:33Speaker 7: you know, Julio Jones, and like, you know, it just
- 1:39:35Speaker 7: it can just happen like that. So I wouldn't worry
- 1:39:38Speaker 7: too much about it being a down year.
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: In the draft.
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: Yeah, me neither, And I don't. I mean, they need
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: more than depth, they need talent. Yeah, like they this
- 1:39:46Speaker 5: that's why it's hard And like I know, Patty was
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: saying it's going to be at least a couple of years,
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: Like it's hard to get everything they need in one
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: year to be a contender for a playoff spot. The
- 1:39:56Speaker 5: quarterback looks like he's gonna put you in contention to
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: have a decent offense.
- 1:40:00Speaker 4: Costallana's gonna be available.
- 1:40:02Speaker 6: Hey, where's he going? I know one other name just
- 1:40:07Speaker 6: to throw out there too, and I don't even know
- 1:40:08Speaker 6: if he fits. But last week we heard richardson the
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: defensive tackle coach talk a lot about Kenny Clark, and
- 1:40:15Speaker 6: he'll be a free agent too. But he's another guy
- 1:40:17Speaker 6: who I know they really like and could use, maybe
- 1:40:20Speaker 6: a defensive front guy. He's another one who hit free
- 1:40:22Speaker 6: agency next year.
- 1:40:23Speaker 7: Yeah, DJ Reed, I looked up the corners. Was we're
- 1:40:25Speaker 7: talking about it, J Reid, that's it.
- 1:40:27Speaker 5: I like that name as Ward.
- 1:40:29Speaker 7: Carlton Davis is a free agent. DJ reads a free
- 1:40:33Speaker 7: agent some other like agent guys reads a good one.
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: Other thing I can't shake Evan is that pretty much.
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: And I like just looking at the mock drafts right
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: now just to start to get a you know, a
- 1:40:43Speaker 6: knowledge of the guys.
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: But even't like doing that in like February.
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: There's like six edge guys that go in the first
- 1:40:49Speaker 6: round in most of these mock drafts. So yeah, you know,
- 1:40:51Speaker 6: it's one of those I don't know yet.
- 1:40:53Speaker 7: I don't know yet, but I really defensive line.
- 1:40:56Speaker 6: So it's going to come to that debate that we
- 1:40:58Speaker 6: often have, which is do you wait to get the
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: one left over or do you go early and try
- 1:41:02Speaker 6: to get the best.
- 1:41:03Speaker 5: So I tell you the old miss guys pretty good
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: edge rushers. Ye, there's another team I saw this week
- 1:41:11Speaker 5: that had constant pressure off the edges. There's some good athletes.
- 1:41:14Speaker 5: I don't know where they're all supposed to go. You know,
- 1:41:17Speaker 5: last year I had that. The guy from UCLA was like,
- 1:41:21Speaker 5: you know, the top fifteen pick I had. You know,
- 1:41:23Speaker 5: I don't lot to I don't do any of the
- 1:41:26Speaker 5: mock drafts and stuff. Fred. I just identify talent as
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: you guys, slot them where you want to slat them.
- 1:41:32Speaker 7: I like, yeah, no, it's the defensive prospects at the
- 1:41:36Speaker 7: top of this draft. There's quite a few interior defensive lineman,
- 1:41:40Speaker 7: edge guys, corners. You know, Will Johnson from Michigan's a
- 1:41:44Speaker 7: hell of a corner, uh, you know him and Travis
- 1:41:46Speaker 7: Hunter are going to be highly drafted at that position.
- 1:41:50Speaker 7: So yeah, it's a good It's probably a better defense
- 1:41:53Speaker 7: draft this year. Last year was all offense. This year,
- 1:41:55Speaker 7: I'd say the defense.
- 1:41:56Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go back to the tpx utline. Brian's in Indiana. Heye, Brian, Brian.
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: These people are very impatient because they're on their lunch.
- 1:42:08Speaker 5: And then yeah, boss walks by and he was waiting
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: for forty minutes.
- 1:42:12Speaker 18: Yeah, well you know that's.
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: What it happens. Busy show. We'll go up to North Carolina.
- 1:42:18Speaker 4: Eldred's there. What's up? Eldrid?
- 1:42:21Speaker 24: Hey today?
- 1:42:22Speaker 7: All right, Taylor, Yeah, I.
- 1:42:25Speaker 27: Ain't in the truck them off, but uh, the listen,
- 1:42:28Speaker 27: listen to the show. And I like Jordan's comments and
- 1:42:31Speaker 27: everything by Pope. Uh, have y'all seen that new new
- 1:42:35Speaker 27: seed about our Los Angeles Chargers The trade they made
- 1:42:41Speaker 27: with us doing the draft, like seemed to be a robbery.
- 1:42:45Speaker 7: McConkie, Yeah, Lad McConkie.
- 1:42:48Speaker 27: And then yeah, yeah, well we traded and got they
- 1:42:53Speaker 27: got lat McConkie and that corner to keep something which
- 1:42:58Speaker 27: is starting and they are seventy three. Yeah, the piel
- 1:43:04Speaker 27: frown and it then cam Hart too, and they're starting
- 1:43:07Speaker 27: the defense their corners need. And we got Jaylen Polk
- 1:43:12Speaker 27: and ja Yvonne Baker. Well Cutley got that Fred guy
- 1:43:17Speaker 27: forty three sixty forty three receptions, fifteen touchdown.
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: Played well.
- 1:43:24Speaker 4: One receiver.
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: It's guys played well. And you know he's.
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: Am I not a wide receiver, whisper I identify help them.
- 1:43:34Speaker 5: I'll give you Justin Jefferson, a lad McConkie.
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: Christian Watson pretty good.
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: Don't recall you being that high on Christian Watson, but
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: I would say he's been sort of hot.
- 1:43:43Speaker 7: Giving Justin Jefferson, yeah, oh no, no he I.
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: Mean Justin Jefferson was not like Marvin Harrison coming out
- 1:43:50Speaker 5: like he wasn't supposed to be top five pick you
- 1:43:53Speaker 5: go like eighteen twenty one, and I mean, like when
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: I tell you fed loved.
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: I was like banging, you know, as I was banging
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: the table.
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: To give Fred credit for anything. Come on, are you gritty?
- 1:44:06Speaker 7: Pretty gritty?
- 1:44:07Speaker 6: He didn't even see the gritty yet.
- 1:44:08Speaker 7: He just liked them. I mean, Justin Jefferson was of
- 1:44:11Speaker 7: a prospect anyways.
- 1:44:12Speaker 5: Good job for so. My only thing with draft day
- 1:44:15Speaker 5: trades and Eldrid's right, Listen, that's just a trade that
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: we're going to look back on and say, ah, that's
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: that's a tough one. But I don't necessarily look at
- 1:44:23Speaker 5: the individuals taken. You traded down from whatever it was
- 1:44:28Speaker 5: thirty was it thirty three to thirty seven or something
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: like that, and thirty four to thirty seven, and you
- 1:44:35Speaker 5: picked up a fourth round pick and gave a fifth
- 1:44:37Speaker 5: round pick. The fact that the Chargers pick better players
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: than you picked is drafting.
- 1:44:43Speaker 27: That's my point.
- 1:44:43Speaker 5: Do you know what I mean?
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: That's draft talent evaluations?
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: Right, That's that's drafting, and the Chargers deserve credit for
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: picking guys. But I don't necessarily look at the trade
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: that they made as being a heist, right, do you
- 1:44:55Speaker 5: know what I mean? Like trading down three or four
- 1:44:57Speaker 5: spots in the second round to add a fourth rounder
- 1:44:59Speaker 5: as opposed to a fifth rounder, Like, that's not a
- 1:45:02Speaker 5: bad trade. Now it's looking terrible, like Eldrid said, because
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: you could have taken Lad McConkie instead of Jalen Polk
- 1:45:09Speaker 5: and Lad McConkie has been pretty good.
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: That's the problem. You took a wide receiver right with
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: the pick.
- 1:45:14Speaker 7: Well, all those picks, you know, Xavier look at Lad
- 1:45:17Speaker 7: McConkie's Xavier Worthy, Kean Coleman like.
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: Coleman's been better than I thought he would be.
- 1:45:22Speaker 7: To be honest with you, a little bit, that is
- 1:45:25Speaker 7: a j Brown Deebo Samuel DK metcalf like that's that
- 1:45:29Speaker 7: version again?
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: Yea, all right? What else, Eldrick ye Evan, Yes, sir.
- 1:45:35Speaker 27: I'm gonna give you a fly with sir.
- 1:45:37Speaker 4: Oh all ordered.
- 1:45:39Speaker 27: My jersey in my cap should be here about next week.
- 1:45:42Speaker 27: And he does look a little different, a lot different
- 1:45:45Speaker 27: rather and Mike even the basketot keeps doing the interceptions,
- 1:45:49Speaker 27: even Brady, so he's not gonna get out of that.
- 1:45:52Speaker 27: And and I'm gonna go with what but the guy
- 1:45:56Speaker 27: that called the game Sunday on the radio, I think
- 1:46:00Speaker 27: that was Pop's fault from not looking back.
- 1:46:02Speaker 4: At the ball. Okay, all right, I think you have
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: a good one, right, Thanks, Eldrick.
- 1:46:07Speaker 7: Thanks.
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: They're talking about Belichick going to the Jaguars. Is that
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: all stemming from the Florio conjecture or was there is
- 1:46:15Speaker 4: there more to that?
- 1:46:16Speaker 7: I just think any opening job he is gonna be.
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: I've heard nothing all year but Jacksonville, Philly, Dallas Giants
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: like they're all assuming that all those jobs are going
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: to be open. And Bill will that's Dallas, and good
- 1:46:33Speaker 5: that was very indie like right there, that's Dallas. I'm
- 1:46:35Speaker 5: gonna need you to listen. I've heard him tied to
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: all of those jobs. I know, the Florio thing from
- 1:46:43Speaker 5: this week, but that's not like wild. I mean, people
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: have thought that Peterson's going and he's got a place
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: down there, right.
- 1:46:52Speaker 7: I think it kind of makes sense in a weird way.
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: Jacksonville.
- 1:46:56Speaker 7: Yeah, because I think he likes cheerleading down there. Maybe
- 1:46:59Speaker 7: I think I think he likes Trevor Well. He feels
- 1:47:02Speaker 7: like he probably has a quarterback owner with deep pockets
- 1:47:06Speaker 7: that's not afraid to spend, will be willing.
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: To let him be.
- 1:47:10Speaker 7: And it's not a huge market, so he doesn't have
- 1:47:12Speaker 7: to deal with people like us. There's no in Boston,
- 1:47:15Speaker 7: New York, Dallas, whatever, So in a weird way, kind
- 1:47:19Speaker 7: of makes sense.
- 1:47:19Speaker 6: There's a pool in the stadium for a mermaid if
- 1:47:21Speaker 6: they're if he had one by.
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: Oh good, good, dude, good you should the groucher mock's eyebrows.
- 1:47:29Speaker 4: I mean, like, who are you made a joke there?
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: Yeah, pull us out of our misery here right.
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: I'll let Boston Cream do that. What's up, Boston Cream?
- 1:47:44Speaker 8: Hey, guys, Nice to talk to you guys. My question
- 1:47:48Speaker 8: is is there a point where we can start playing
- 1:47:50Speaker 8: more young players to kind of develop them or have
- 1:47:54Speaker 8: we already run through the depth? And that's kind of
- 1:47:57Speaker 8: where we stand right.
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: Now, which is playing Which young guy would you like
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: to see playing any more? Bell?
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: I guess maybe Robinson, Maybe Baker, Baker, Baker, Yeah.
- 1:48:06Speaker 6: He seems like he's in he's he's women in it.
- 1:48:09Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: I got a question for you, boy, Bakers, Baker, for
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: you an example, Baker and Bell.
- 1:48:15Speaker 6: But yeah, Boston Cream you filled with cream or custard?
- 1:48:18Speaker 6: That's always bug me. I feel like Boston kream. Donnut's
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: always custard.
- 1:48:21Speaker 10: I don't like custard, Like we gotta go with cream.
- 1:48:24Speaker 8: Whatever you like, dude, there you go, Thank you?
- 1:48:27Speaker 4: Okay, and wherever you like?
- 1:48:29Speaker 14: Dude?
- 1:48:31Speaker 6: Donuts pump not? Are you painful?
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: Sign?
- 1:48:35Speaker 7: Well?
- 1:48:35Speaker 6: My donut talk? You don't go for the filled ones though,
- 1:48:40Speaker 6: you like that?
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: I like the.
- 1:48:43Speaker 4: Chocolate ut. What's your favorite donut? Probably a Boston Cream
- 1:48:48Speaker 4: worst over overrated donut because the custard. It's that that
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: cream pie. The overrated.
- 1:48:55Speaker 5: The most overrated donut is unquestionably the jelly donut.
- 1:48:59Speaker 6: Now you're again, you're insulting my dad for a second
- 1:49:03Speaker 6: show in a row.
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: Who loves I love, mister Deuce said, I said, no
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: such thing.
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: I love jelly donuts, but I find them two decadence,
- 1:49:10Speaker 4: so I don't eat them. You know, you know what's
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: an underrated donut is the chocolate glazed, the chocolate frost. Chocolate.
- 1:49:25Speaker 7: That would be my second That's what I was going
- 1:49:27Speaker 7: to say, chocolate.
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: And I'm not a huge chocolate guy, but you know
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: why it.
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: Goes so well with the hot coffee, like they blend
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: so well.
- 1:49:36Speaker 6: I don't know from coffee flavor company, you know I
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: would agree with that.
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: So Fred, I saw this morning that someone tweeted out
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: that big sort of first round rookie quarterback e p
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: a chart, and well, I have no idea how to
- 1:49:50Speaker 5: read those charts. And every once in a while I
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: talk I should go I should go over to be
- 1:49:54Speaker 5: in the top right, I should go to Evan and
- 1:49:56Speaker 5: and and find out. So anyway, I just explained it.
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: It gets put out there. I don't know how to
- 1:50:03Speaker 5: read it. And Fred goes, I don't know what this means,
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: but the eyeball, so I assume it's good. And I
- 1:50:10Speaker 5: was going to retweet you and say, nobody knows what
- 1:50:12Speaker 5: it means, but it's provoketed.
- 1:50:14Speaker 6: No.
- 1:50:14Speaker 4: But it's funny that you say that, because I was
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: listening to one of your shows a couple of days
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: ago and they started bringing up EPA and Greg was on,
- 1:50:22Speaker 4: and I was hoping to get an explanation, but and
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: he couldn't even.
- 1:50:25Speaker 5: Know even you know you and your ilk Evan. But
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: it wasn't necessarily like the e p A part that
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: I didn't know. It was the chart, Like I don't
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: really know how to read the chart.
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: Yeah, the bottom line, if you're in the upper right quadrant,
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: you're good.
- 1:50:39Speaker 5: I know that, but the bottom the bottom is about
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: pass protection. Yes, and then like everybody's all over the place,
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: So like, can I can I extrapolate from that chart
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: that very few guys have been better than Drake May
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: like C J. Stroud last year Jalen Daniels like, is
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: that because they were highing?
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: Well, Cam Newton was in that.
- 1:51:00Speaker 7: Watson you want to be They were both unbelievable. You
- 1:51:02Speaker 7: want to be in the top right. You don't want
- 1:51:04Speaker 7: to be in the bottom left, which was so the
- 1:51:07Speaker 7: top in this chart that was that was put out today.
- 1:51:10Speaker 7: What it's saying is is that Drake May is doing
- 1:51:14Speaker 7: a very very good job against a bad offensive behind
- 1:51:17Speaker 7: a bad offense.
- 1:51:17Speaker 4: And I kind of understood. I was kind of joking, Yeah,
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: me too, And on my comment, all the quants are like,
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: you know, explaining it.
- 1:51:25Speaker 5: I don't need it explains because I don't care because
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: I have two eyes and I can watch and I
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: can say the quarterback's playing well beyond this year.
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: And we know that it's supplyn. I don't need a
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: statistic to tell me.
- 1:51:39Speaker 5: I mean you can if you want to say what
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: just for the listeners, like the expected.
- 1:51:43Speaker 7: Yeah, so you know it stands for expected points added.
- 1:51:46Speaker 7: But the biggest thing that you have to take from
- 1:51:49Speaker 7: it is that zero is average, right, So zero is
- 1:51:53Speaker 7: the league average. So if you're below zero, then you're bad,
- 1:51:57Speaker 7: if you're above zero, then you're good. And so basically
- 1:52:00Speaker 7: what it looks at is it looks at the last
- 1:52:02Speaker 7: ten years of permutations of on first and ten from
- 1:52:05Speaker 7: the twenty five the league average is that they gain
- 1:52:08Speaker 7: three and a half yards. So if the Patriots were
- 1:52:11Speaker 7: to gain five yards instead of three and a half yards,
- 1:52:14Speaker 7: they would be adding points to their expected total. That's it.
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: Why can't the average be with the averages instead of zero.
- 1:52:23Speaker 7: Well, it's just it's just the scale, I know, but
- 1:52:26Speaker 7: it makes more they have to like.
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: Oh, it just bothers me. But that's it has complicated.
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: The league average is three yards on first down, but
- 1:52:34Speaker 4: they have to make it zero.
- 1:52:36Speaker 7: That's because it's more digestible that way, is it.
- 1:52:39Speaker 4: Yeah? I don't know. If the league average is three
- 1:52:42Speaker 4: and I do five, I'm I'm two better than the
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: league average. I mean, wow, that's not difficult.
- 1:52:48Speaker 7: That's really simple to some people for everybody.
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: That's the point. Why not make it fun for everyone
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: instead of just people that went to mit.
- 1:52:59Speaker 5: That horse has left the barn? Sports are no longer
- 1:53:01Speaker 5: fun for anyone. I didn't let alone everyone.
- 1:53:03Speaker 7: The biggest thing, though, the reason you know people like
- 1:53:06Speaker 7: on your show is Paul will say, well, what's wrong
- 1:53:08Speaker 7: with yards?
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:53:09Speaker 7: Well, the problem with yards is like, if it's third
- 1:53:12Speaker 7: and ten, right and Drake May throws a nine yard pass,
- 1:53:15Speaker 7: is that a good play or a bad play? It's
- 1:53:18Speaker 7: a bad player. You didn't get the first down.
- 1:53:20Speaker 4: It's an efficient plan, right.
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: What would you say that the play would be rated
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: if it's third and five and a guy runs an
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: eight yard out route and is like two yards in
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: the clear, but it goes incomplete? What would you how
- 1:53:31Speaker 5: would you grade the corner.
- 1:53:33Speaker 7: That's a different conversation.
- 1:53:34Speaker 5: Well, exactly so, But I'm just telling you if we
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: did everything the same way, then I would I would.
- 1:53:40Speaker 4: Agree with you.
- 1:53:40Speaker 7: But those are PFF grades.
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: But we just go oh for one zero passer rating
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: even though he got beat like a drum and I'm
- 1:53:48Speaker 5: just talking to his cornerback X here right, I'm not
- 1:53:51Speaker 5: giving anybody assignment on this particular play. I'm just saying
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: in general, the results like that, like that is all
- 1:53:58Speaker 5: strictly about the result of the play, no context. But
- 1:54:02Speaker 5: the other play, we can't just go by the result
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: of the play. We have to put context in it, YEP.
- 1:54:07Speaker 7: So that that that's a totally different thing. But that's
- 1:54:10Speaker 7: the whole point. Is that if you gain nine yards
- 1:54:13Speaker 7: on third and nine in the box score, nine yards
- 1:54:17Speaker 7: per pass attempt is really really good, but that's a
- 1:54:21Speaker 7: failed play. So the idea is is that EPA calculates
- 1:54:24Speaker 7: whether you actually move the chains in that situation, versus
- 1:54:28Speaker 7: just picked up a bunch of yards.
- 1:54:30Speaker 4: So there used to be a definition of efficient run.
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: It was a run for four more yards, a run
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: for a first down, or that resulted in a score.
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: Correct, that's simple.
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: That's simple. I know it still exists. So let's just
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: go by that.
- 1:54:44Speaker 5: It's seven for a pass, right.
- 1:54:47Speaker 7: It's it depends on the you know, first and ten.
- 1:54:50Speaker 7: It all depends on, like, you know, how many of
- 1:54:52Speaker 7: the yards you get on? Yeah, the second downs a
- 1:54:57Speaker 7: little bit. Yeah, listen, third downs, the first down.
- 1:54:59Speaker 4: If you can't explain it in Layman's terms, then it
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: has no use to me, you know what I mean.
- 1:55:06Speaker 5: I like, you're a little angry.
- 1:55:08Speaker 6: I think we got a good ran for next week's show.
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: You'll sign up an I'm a.
- 1:55:11Speaker 7: Fan of success right, I think success rate it's a
- 1:55:13Speaker 7: good stat all.
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: Right, Dan writes in I really don't like hearing Mayo
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: say we have enough talent to win football games. In
- 1:55:20Speaker 4: my opinion, that couldn't be more false.
- 1:55:22Speaker 5: But what but why would you not like to have
- 1:55:25Speaker 5: your coach be complimentary?
- 1:55:26Speaker 4: So do you think that he really believes that or
- 1:55:28Speaker 4: is he just throwing wolf of bone since he's been
- 1:55:31Speaker 4: catching heat. If he slashed, the organization does believe that.
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: I'm extremely concerned about this coming off season. A coach
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: has to say that.
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: I think a coach, I think he's trying to have
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: the backs of his players. I don't think it's throw Elliott.
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: It's coach speak, right, you think.
- 1:55:46Speaker 5: He's trying to back his players, Like I believe in you.
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: You guys can play. We have enough talent to win games.
- 1:55:51Speaker 6: Now.
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: I hope behind closed doors he's saying.
- 1:55:55Speaker 5: We got to get better.
- 1:55:56Speaker 7: Well that way, when we were talking about I think
- 1:55:58Speaker 7: we said this off air. I don't know if he
- 1:55:59Speaker 7: said this on it, but we were talking about the
- 1:56:01Speaker 7: whole Gonzales thing on the boundary and like, and I'm
- 1:56:04Speaker 7: not wanting to talk on this, but like it's over
- 1:56:06Speaker 7: complicating the situation. At the end of the day, their
- 1:56:09Speaker 7: players made plays and your players didn't, you know, and
- 1:56:12Speaker 7: where Gonzalez was lining up and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:56:15Speaker 7: That still only takes care of one of the receivers.
- 1:56:18Speaker 7: So who's got cup right if you put him on
- 1:56:20Speaker 7: the KUA.
- 1:56:21Speaker 5: Even if you operate under the premise that Gonzales took
- 1:56:24Speaker 5: somebody man to man and completely eliminated him from the game,
- 1:56:27Speaker 5: which to me is a huge stretch. But let's just
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: say you're still not necessarily in much better shape. Yeah,
- 1:56:36Speaker 5: because now they just find the other matchups and exploit
- 1:56:40Speaker 5: the guy that Gonzales isn't covering. Plus maybe you get
- 1:56:43Speaker 5: more of DeMarcus Robinson, who has been really good.
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: But I get it, but their best two players have
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: the best two games, and he was on neither one
- 1:56:51Speaker 4: of them.
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: But it makes it, but it makes it so simplistic
- 1:56:56Speaker 5: to just say, like, well, maybe they should have doubled
- 1:57:00Speaker 5: cup and had Gonzales take nicoua man from man all day,
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: like that would be the magic of locks. No chance
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: they're going to move.
- 1:57:08Speaker 4: No, with Matthew Stafford, they still would have moved the ball.
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: But listen, when you have something like Gonzo, it's the
- 1:57:17Speaker 4: same thing as having a great receiver a great running back.
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: You got to use them. You got to use them.
- 1:57:23Speaker 4: So I don't know, I don't Uh, Danny's in Daytona.
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: What's up? Danny?
- 1:57:30Speaker 22: Hey?
- 1:57:30Speaker 28: What's going on?
- 1:57:32Speaker 5: You actually have the track right?
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: I think he's taking laps. I don't know. Tell your
- 1:57:38Speaker 4: pick crudo, keep it down. So I wanted to.
- 1:57:44Speaker 28: I had a couple of grids.
- 1:57:45Speaker 22: Uh.
- 1:57:46Speaker 28: I wanted to. I wanted to Greg with Belichick. Uh,
- 1:57:50Speaker 28: you know, roster building that left the Patriots devastate. I
- 1:57:53Speaker 28: know we've already harped on this, but uh, the same
- 1:57:56Speaker 28: people he still has in uh in a in the
- 1:57:59Speaker 28: uh in the current office regime. I just have I'm
- 1:58:03Speaker 28: not gonna sound satiistic, but I just don't have any
- 1:58:05Speaker 28: faith in Elliott Wolf or the staff that you put
- 1:58:08Speaker 28: together in the front office. I feel like we're gonna
- 1:58:11Speaker 28: get the same with what we have this year.
- 1:58:13Speaker 5: And I think.
- 1:58:14Speaker 28: Everyone's trying to stay positive and I'm just being realistic,
- 1:58:18Speaker 28: and I feel like they're not gonna do the same
- 1:58:20Speaker 28: exact things that they said they were gonna do this year.
- 1:58:23Speaker 28: They're gonna go get go cheap on the left tackle.
- 1:58:25Speaker 28: They're going to probably try and get somebody's bubby wide
- 1:58:28Speaker 28: receiver and call them x X, and they'll probably try
- 1:58:33Speaker 28: to patch the offensive line together. And I'm really worried
- 1:58:36Speaker 28: about that.
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: No, it's fair enough, Dandy, I'm gonna hang up because yeah,
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: I mean, I'm having trouble here.
- 1:58:42Speaker 5: But I would just say, and we wait to see
- 1:58:44Speaker 5: what it happens before, you know, like Felger and Maz's commandment,
- 1:58:47Speaker 5: let's not you know, criticize so much somebody. I haven't
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: done it.
- 1:58:49Speaker 4: But here's the thing. It's fair to say that the
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: same people who were involved when we were criticizing Bill
- 1:58:55Speaker 4: are still here. So the question is how much of
- 1:58:58Speaker 4: it was collaboration when Bill was here. And if if
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: you think, oh, Matt grow and Elliott Wolf had a
- 1:59:05Speaker 4: lot of say, then there is a little cause from
- 1:59:08Speaker 4: concern if you didn't like what they did before this.
- 1:59:12Speaker 7: I just think there's no way of answering that that's
- 1:59:15Speaker 7: what it's going to be in the pudding.
- 1:59:16Speaker 10: I know.
- 1:59:16Speaker 6: That's why I just think about this year's rookie class,
- 1:59:18Speaker 6: you know, for better or worse at this point, and
- 1:59:19Speaker 6: Drake may is certainly a big positive. But you know,
- 1:59:22Speaker 6: I just threw out Layden Robinson as a guy who
- 1:59:24Speaker 6: you know can is Michael Jordan. He can't beat out
- 1:59:28Speaker 6: Michael Jordan. I mean, you know, like that to me
- 1:59:30Speaker 6: is one of the places. I mean, I know Kayden
- 1:59:32Speaker 6: Wallace is out right now, but I would just look
- 1:59:35Speaker 6: for those two guys to somehow get involved and maybe
- 1:59:37Speaker 6: think that those guys have a spot on that offense.
- 1:59:39Speaker 5: Just because they didn't have a great offseason this year
- 1:59:42Speaker 5: doesn't mean that they won't have a better one next year.
- 1:59:45Speaker 5: That's and this has got nothing to do with whether
- 1:59:48Speaker 5: it was a collaboration of you know. The similarity is
- 1:59:54Speaker 5: that they with the caller said they tried to sort
- 1:59:58Speaker 5: of patch it with a left tackle. We're not gonna
- 2:00:01Speaker 5: go out and get big money for a left tackle.
- 2:00:03Speaker 5: We're going to try to patch it with a left tackle,
- 2:00:05Speaker 5: and we're not going to take it early in the draft,
- 2:00:08Speaker 5: early enough to address it in the draft, right, we're
- 2:00:11Speaker 5: gonna That doesn't mean that they're always going to do that. Like,
- 2:00:15Speaker 5: I don't think it's we're going to find out how much,
- 2:00:18Speaker 5: say they had when Bill was here. Regardless of what happens,
- 2:00:22Speaker 5: will they go out and spend some money in free
- 2:00:24Speaker 5: agency and will they be better at drafting players? That's
- 2:00:28Speaker 5: we don't know. I mean, but I just why do
- 2:00:31Speaker 5: you have hope because you have a quarterback and I
- 2:00:34Speaker 5: don't think it's as hard now to get a wide
- 2:00:37Speaker 5: receiver that can make an impact. So you don't have
- 2:00:40Speaker 5: to get like the greatest wide receiver ever because he's
- 2:00:42Speaker 5: going to make him look better. He made Kendrick Bourne
- 2:00:44Speaker 5: look better the other day.
- 2:00:46Speaker 7: And you're not picking that receiver at thirty seven or
- 2:00:49Speaker 7: that tackle at sixty eight. You're now potentially picking that
- 2:00:52Speaker 7: receiver attack four.
- 2:00:53Speaker 5: Or at seven or where the first Red's theory.
- 2:00:57Speaker 6: Yeah, and I mean I just say, signs to me
- 2:00:59Speaker 6: are pointing that they've got to spend some money this
- 2:01:01Speaker 6: offseason and give out some contracts. And it's not going
- 2:01:03Speaker 6: to go to in house guys because those guys are
- 2:01:04Speaker 6: already taking care of There's nobody in house to really
- 2:01:07Speaker 6: worry about. So they got to give out some big contracts.
- 2:01:09Speaker 4: You can't go Oh, the free agent signings were really
- 2:01:12Speaker 4: the guy. That's a great point. Yeah, one done.
- 2:01:14Speaker 5: That's going to require big money.
- 2:01:16Speaker 4: Right've done that in the past. All Right, that's going
- 2:01:18Speaker 4: to be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll
