- 0:58SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna launch him with our 15 million viewers today into Bentonville Springdale Rogers Marketplace.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: And it's your new neighbor.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: He and he's a good neighbor.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Favorite neighbor.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: He's a good neighbor.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: He's the best neighbor I've had in a long time.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: These guys.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: I could talk about the Jets place for a while.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: Shout out.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: Can I do the shouting?
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: You can do a quick one because we talk about the Jens Place a lot, but I I know you do, but I just I told you I'm a walk-in commercial for these guys.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: I the the short version, the short story long is that um I've always been a bum man.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: Like in a fun way, in a very casual way, in a uh unconventional way, even in business, you know.
- 1:39SPEAKER_03: And I say bum, I'm not dirty, but I like some river shorts and some tie-dye t-shirts and some burger stocks and camo too, you know.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: But um with everything that's happening, I I'm walking into some big meetings.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: And to cut to the chase, I met um Emily and my wife, Sean Out.
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and and Josh, and came up for a party we had.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: Was it the grand opening?
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: It was our grand opening.
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: It was official grand opening.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: We did some.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: I was there early.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: You were there for five openings.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: Did some beer and rights, did some barbecue, and we got some people together and kind of introduced ourselves to each other and met the crew.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: And uh my person, Lachey, did a five course with me.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: And um I just man, she talked to me, she listened to me, she like cut my hair and gave me the took me in the dark room and washed my hair and made me feel relaxed.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: And I was keyed up when I got there.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: I've got a we got a lot going on, you know.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: And I left there feeling better about myself than I had in a long time.
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: I don't know how to explain.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: Well, I didn't have like I've cleaned up and I've got my shirt tail tucked in and I got a belt on and I had shoes on.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: But I haven't told you.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: But I haven't told you the story.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna wrote a letter.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, that's what I was gonna say.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so he was so touched at the service and how it made him feel that he wrote a handwritten letter to Lachey and then he sent me a copy.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's huge.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: And I read my wife delivered it to her with me.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: I read it at a holiday party, but I didn't say it was you, and I just said this is feedback that we got from a new member, yeah, and people were like blown away.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Like it was like you that's how I felt.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was amazing.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: And I've I'm telling everybody that I mean I never thought, man, for most of my life, I've either had really long hair, and then my wife shaves my head with a like a sheep, shears me like a sheep, and then it's really long, and then she and sometimes I have a beard, but I just feel clean, I feel new.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: But you look forward to your appointment because you're texting me, hey, can I get in?
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: Every time I come up every two weeks for three or four days to be on site, and to I mean, being on that campus is oh, it's so awesome.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: I heard you talking earlier to the folks that we're leaving about just it's surreal up here.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's just so amazing.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: And you know, Walmart campus being a part of this deal.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'll talk about that a second.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: Did they recruit you or had they did you find them?
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Did they find you?
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think I got the best story of all.
- 4:13SPEAKER_03: Well, tell me if I'm wrong.
- 4:14SPEAKER_03: I can't wait to hear it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: No, no, I can't wait to hear it.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: No, it's not a contest.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: There we all have great stories.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's as long as it's better than his.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: That's I don't know, man.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: It's yeah, it's gonna be a tough one to top top.
- 4:25SPEAKER_03: I was a high school English teacher for 20 years before flyaway.
- 4:29SPEAKER_03: That was my career.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: I went out every day.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: I put on a pair of Eddie Bauer khaki pants and a plaid shirt and went to work and taught literature and composition and creative writing for to seniors at Little Rock Central High School, which is a national historic monument.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: I was on a documentary on HBO, 50th anniversary of the integration.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: I was on Lester Holtz um the night of the 50th anniversary on NBC News in my classroom.
- 4:56SPEAKER_03: I was the senior English teacher, and you know, it was really cool.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: It's I just feel like things happen, weird things happen.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: You know, I taught a concept called weird W Y R D when I taught Beowulf, and it's like personal fate or destiny.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: It's like uh days of our lives almost, you know, this personal fate.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: It's my life has been weird, like Beowulf almost.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: And uh I was I was on that, you know, had that whole wonderful experience.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: 3,000 former states walking around Arkansas and around the world.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: One of my very first, my very first job, I taught the governor as a long-term sub.
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: And she I was just a long-term sub in this first year, but the governor was in my class.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: You know, I could taught kids who are no longer alive from illnesses and from violin acts and accidents and everything in between, you know, international diplomats and um I learned how I believe I learned business that way.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: Going with so many people.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm kind of off on a tangent, but uh that teaching experience was huge for me.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: So then how did you get to Flyway?
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: I started brewing beer the same year I started teaching.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: It was funny, just on my back.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: Just a hobby?
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: Well, a friend of mine was getting married and he asked me to do the ceremony, so I got one of those online ordinations for Universalist Unitary or something.
- 6:25SPEAKER_03: That's a my sister's a real Episcopal priest, and she would want me to say that it was that was she she wasn't happy about no, I'm kidding.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: This is funny, but um I was married, I was doing a ceremony, and I did a bachelor party up here at in the Ozarks uh for a week, and I decided to brew a batch of beer.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Bachelor party for a week?
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but that's a podcast on its own bachelor party, yeah.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: So I brewed my first beer.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: It was a Sam Adams lager clone.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: Friend of mine from France, French teacher, real Frenchman who knew how to brew really well.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: Nicholas Bergeau taught me how to brew beer.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: Well, shout out to Nicholas.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: And so we started brewing like after we did that, I was just like, this is awesome.
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, next thing you knew, I just had like kegs stacked in my garage and you know, stainless steel tanks that I didn't know I was gonna do with it.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: We got former students who knew how to weld, you know, I just went nuts and started growing ingredients to beer and making it in community garden and stuff.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, it just got consumed by it.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: And I brewed and taught and brewed, and you know, had summers, picked blueberries in the summers up here in the hazards at a place called Little Buffalo River Blueberry Farm.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: Kind of Jack and had a blueberry farm, and I just love blueberries.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: I started, got some plants from them, moved to the Little Rock, started growing blueberries, and the blue wing, that's you know, originally was born out of blue wing.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Um Matt's Matt's eyeballing the hats, and he's and I could see him foaming at the mouth like Homer Simpson for the beer.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, let's get it.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Y'all would be able to edit all this together, right?
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, makes sense.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: I'm all I mean I got I'm gonna have to put my hat on that thing.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: Okay, here we go.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: So I brought some stuff for us to taste.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: I would be remiss if I did not start with the the blue.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: You see what Matt just did?
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: He just Oh, he did it.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: You gotta pass some tests.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: That's a good list.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: Good on it's a good list.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Are you gonna pick that hat if if you win?
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, now, yes, now because of the rivalry.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Um blue wing.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: So this is the this is the the blueberry one.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: So that's the one.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's our by far top seller.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: And it's at one time, I don't know, I hate making claims like this top-selling beer brand, uh craft beer brand in Arkansas.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: Um the name, how did you come up with the name?
- 8:51SPEAKER_03: It's uh so the f a flyway is a bird migratory route, right?
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: And there are four major flyways in North America.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: We live in the heart of the biggest flyways.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: Did you know this?
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: Called the Mississippi Flyway.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: And it looks like a funnel, or really like an hourglass.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: And it, you know, coast to coast in northern Canada, it funnels down right down the Mississippi over Arkansas proper and then fans back out into South America like an hourglass.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: So bottlenecks right there's a huge diversity of bird species come through here.
- 9:27SPEAKER_03: So you're a bird guy.
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: I'm a bird guy, ornithology, conservation.
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: But I had to taught biology and physics in high school.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: Quiz, quiz, quiz.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: Okay, quiz ducks.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: We got blue wing.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: We got I got all of these.
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: Oh, did I paint this one over by me?
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I saw what you did.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Well, you and uh I have a RT.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: Hawaiian duck, yeah.
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's that's a huge one for us.
- 9:49SPEAKER_03: It's an amber ale.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: The duck call.
- 9:52SPEAKER_03: It's a deal with Rich and Tone duck calls.
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: This is honeybird.
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: This is gonna be your new favorite place in town.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: I can tell I'm at the Arkansas Honey and this upwind.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: I mean, with this brown trout Arkansas flag, do you have like a fishing one too you're gonna pull out of there?
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Well, not yet.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: Uh the that's maybe foreshadowing.
- 10:08SPEAKER_03: And then early bird are year-round IPA.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: And it's a classic, I say old school.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: Um, what do you want to try first?
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: So here's the here's the trivia.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: What is the most prominent and featured in we're gonna go until someone misses or gets it right.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Uh most prominent or featured ingredient in an IPA and an India Pale.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: Would you say the featured beer ingredient?
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: Okay, you got it.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: Is that it?
- 10:38SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: Wait, wait, no, this is like overtime in NFL.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: He gets a chance.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: I got a shot.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: Uh what is uh what are the name three main ingredients in beer.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: This is good because this is how I used to educate people about hops.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: Wheat?
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: Wheat can be a main ingredient.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: Yes, definitely.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: And that's two.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: He gave you a really easy barley?
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: Barley's good.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: You got it.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: Okay, tiebreaker.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: Um, first one to answer it right.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: Tiebreaker said that.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: Okay, right.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: I'm playing for the flyway hat.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: Yes, yes.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: Uh what produces the alcohol in beer?
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: Fermentation.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: There you go.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: I'll tell you.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: God darn it! That was when you get that.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: Fermentation.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: The yeast eat the sugars from the barley malt.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: So you get to pick your hat.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: I don't think you're gonna tell you.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: I have a a buddy of mine that kind of did like you did.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: He's never taken it to this level, but yeah.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: He he gets so much beer that he has to call people to come get.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Like you probably had to start selling it to get it out of your grass.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: I was making through well, I I was make I started making it for special occasions for different, you know, like spring break trips.
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: Like when you're a teacher, I used to call it spring break for life.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: I had a group of friends from college.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: We got together every year, called it spring break for life.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: I'd make a beer for that.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna put the winners out in it.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: That's a that's a nice.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: I look like that.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: Hey, listen.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: That's a good lead.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: The uh constellation prize is not bad.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: You get um early bird.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: Let me give you a pro tip.
- 12:14SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 12:14SPEAKER_03: I don't know if I should say this from my this has got the snap back.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: This these have got the velcro back.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: I wear this one all the time.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: That would be good for Bobby with the colors.
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: My 49 years who is 18 year old senior high school and knows his merch says that to the hat.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: Which one?
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: The honey bird.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: But I don't think you go wrong.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: I think the blue.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: That blue's coming.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: You like the blue the uh sales don't lie.
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: You know, good looking lid.

- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Guy named from Jonesboro named Daniel Brown.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: Shout out to Daniel Brown, but he's a line.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Looks good.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Y'all are both work.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: This is good.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, it doesn't look but it looked good.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm the consolation to the I mean, I I wanted you, I knew you were.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was nice of you to hold back.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: I did I did hold back.
- 13:15SPEAKER_03: All right, let's drink.
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: So let's drink.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: Pick a beer, man.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: I brought some non-out since too.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: We don't need that.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Let's try to make it.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Hey, but remember this one.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, we need to talk about this.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: We're gonna be coming, this is coming the new thing.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: It is huge, right, man.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: What you want?
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm gonna drink the same type of Matt.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: It's yeah, yeah.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Blue blue.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: All right, so tell us what we're drinking.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: You're drinking a blueberry with an American wheat.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: Smell it to you made with blueberry puree organic blueberry puree from Oregon Fruit Products.
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: I think we are maybe still the largest customer blueberry puree.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: That is exceptional.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: So it's a great beer.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: And it's not it's not a heavy blueberry.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's a blueberry finish on there.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: That that's really nice.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: Get a little blueberry.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Some people don't like to drink this because they say it's too it's too much flavor.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: This is this is great.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: It's understated.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: I think everything we do is understated.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: Like we're not trying I mean, unless we're some of our taproot beers, or we just have a blast with it.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: I'm catching so much blueberry muffin on the finish.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: You get it's so good.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: That's this is like a summer on the.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: I wish I could put that in.
- 14:26SPEAKER_03: I wish I knew why and do it again.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: Because I mean, I think what blows me away, and I say this not to brag, but almost out of uh two blue-wing stories.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: The first year we canned at 16, I was driving from Little Rock to Dallas to visit my in-laws, and we stopped in Hope at a gas station.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: I was walking back to go to the bathroom, and you know how you walk by the coolers, and I caught out of the corner of my eye, I caught that blue, orange, red flash, you know, and I stopped and backed up and I looked at it, and I was like, holy cow! I'm in Hope, Arkansas, you know, like and there's a random convenience store, and there's my beer right there.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: So awesome.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: And that's great.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: The other one, yeah, that's a that's a good one.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: 10-year anniversary coming up.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: It yeah, well, more if it was 16.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Well, or that was just we saw it of blueing.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: That was the can.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we released the cans in 16.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: That's fantastic.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: So that's your bestseller?
- 15:25SPEAKER_03: Uh by far.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: The the second story is just a couple of weeks ago, I was opening my Square app on my phone that shows my sales in my original Argenta location at Taprim there in Bury in North Little Rock.
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: And it popped up and said, you know, you got a new feature, AI feature.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: If you want to try it out, here's a little tutorial.
- 15:46SPEAKER_03: And I asked it uh cumulative total sales, lifetime sales for blue wing.
- 15:53SPEAKER_03: I've never just literally done the math.
- 15:57SPEAKER_03: And uh it was a big number.
- 15:59SPEAKER_03: It was nine years, ten million dollars.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: Gosh.
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, why am I not rich?
- 16:08SPEAKER_03: But that's a lot of sales.
- 16:10SPEAKER_03: That's a lot of beer.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: For one beer.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: That's not flyway, that's blue wing.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: Are you distributed uh only in Arkansas?
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: That's only in Arkansas.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: That's incredible.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Now, do you only was this the first beer that you sold?
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: No.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: Like free range brown ale.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: Uh well, big market.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: That was the original.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: I thought that would be the flagship, our brown ale.
- 16:33SPEAKER_03: And it's a great beer, but we don't even can it now.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: It's just uh we will soon on small batches.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: But I mean, that beer just shows up.
- 16:42SPEAKER_03: You think you pick your flagship.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: I don't know if how this applies to your business, but it picks you.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: It picks you, you know, and it's the number, you know.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: And I I probably struggled more than anything with numbers.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: You know what's so good about this?
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: You cannot be a beer drinker.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: And this is amazing.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Like this, it tastes like your summer and you're sitting at the pool.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, it's I I mean it's it's funny to talk about it like this, but it's it's fun to hear someone like you say that who I don't know has no I know we're I know you you're trying to help me out and I appreciate it, but I think I believe, you know, yeah, I'm I wouldn't say it if I didn't believe it.
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: It's um women like it, men like it.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: Um younger, my you know, not my son because he's a senior in high school, but you know, but he will like younger, he will like it, I'm pretty sure.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: Um and his friends will like it, I'm pretty sure.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: They're all coming to Fayetteville, half of them come to Fayetteville next year, and they're gonna be like, Man, I've never really like Northwest Arkansas is kind of new for us.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: We opened Fayetteville two years, year and a half, two years ago.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: And that you that's on the way down to Summerhill, right?
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: You're on the Zion Hill.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: But tennis courts are further down.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, near the summer FAC.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: F-A-C.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right across from the mall behind Lowe's.
- 18:02SPEAKER_03: I know exactly where it's on Lake Fayetteville.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: I know exactly where it's like if you turn in our parking lot, we're on the trail.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: So we have a bike.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: Uh I heard y'all talking about cycling earlier.
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: We have a bike tune-up station on our front door, this awesome dude.
- 18:15SPEAKER_03: Club in Little Rock.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: Um they've installed bike service stations at all of our locations, and we really have a big strong connection to the which works up here, obviously.
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: Really well.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: Um but it's you know, it's it's really cool.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: Having a a brick and mortar location in a market.
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: It's like a sampling program, and then they go to the store and buy the cans.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: You know, so we have a malt kind of multi-pronged model facet.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: We brew, we distribute, we can, we, you know, um, we have compelling food, tap rows with killer food.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Yes, I I do so I want to get into how you got to the Walmart campus, and then and then I want to hear about the menu because everybody knows you for the beer, but I heard your food is fantastic.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: Well, I I would I would Angel's advocate to that is we're we were on diners, drive-ins and dives in 2008.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: Guy Fieti came to something with Little Rock.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: And uh that changed our life.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: He just showed up or you knew.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: No, we were on the show.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: No, but he like you he you knew he was coming?
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, do you know how that works?
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: I have no clue.
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: You're are you associated with TV stuff?
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: You know?
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:29SPEAKER_03: Um with we got an email, same way it happened with Walmart.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: I ought to tell that story at some point if we have time.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: But um the uh I got we got an email and said, Gafieri's coming to your area.
- 19:42SPEAKER_03: If you would be interested in being considered, send us an application.
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: So my partner just went hold.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: I said, Go home and work on it.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: You know, and um and we got it, we got chosen uh four restaurants in Little Rock area, um, the root cafes and other one there.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: Awesome Jack Sundal there is amazing.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: And it we they filmed in, I want to say 17.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: My son was tiny.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: And uh and we it aired in 18.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: He he was cool.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: He was a trip.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: I'm sure you guys blew up from that.
- 20:15SPEAKER_03: I'm sure.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, it we still have I was in Memphis last week at lunch, and we had just gone to winter hours, and these women were traveling from Richmond, Virginia to Dallas, and they stopped in Memphis to try the dive drive-ins and dives flyway food.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: And we had just closed, and I just felt so bad.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: I was like, Yup, they cut off the highway, and I said, I'm gonna give y'all a tour and we're gonna eat some food, you know.
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: But I mean that people like that.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think people will come to the Walmart campus who to sit because of that.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: That's been my experience ever since we had.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: And when he left that day, he usually rolls in.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: You film for two full days, and he comes for like 20 minutes, is what, you know, and does his part.
- 21:00SPEAKER_03: But he and he they bring that car in and stuff and he drives it around on the trailer.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, and uh he he stayed at Flyway for like three hours and talked for to all of us and the brewers and the staff.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: We had a really cool crew there.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: And uh he spent a lot of time talking to me and he was like, Hey, yeah, you seem like a smart guy.
- 21:21SPEAKER_03: And if you play your cards right on this, it could really, you know.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: And we got we got it on our menu.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: We got the right to use their logos and stuff, and I think it could lead to either other other opportunities.
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: Uh we got a great gumbo that our longtime chef Gina makes.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: So is that one of your specialties?
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they did the gumbo cheese fries.
- 21:42SPEAKER_03: Those are in Argento.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: We don't have those on every menu.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: Is that curious?
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 21:47SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: I'm lobbying for it.
- 21:49SPEAKER_03: I'm the beer guy, so um, you know, but uh I'm lobbying for it.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: I'd love to see it in someday in beer cans on a shelf at Walmart.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: Gumbo in beer cans with those riptop lids.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: It's genius.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: Wouldn't that be cool?
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: And just have it with our like gumbo, like a whole name, with your name.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: It's perfect.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Throw it in a campfire and heat it up and then, you know, I don't know.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: That's one of my pipe.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: I got ideas.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Get a six pack of gumbo.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: You shouldn't, you shouldn't be giving this away, are you?
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: I can tell you're a guy that's gonna that writes ideas down when he's come to you all the time.
- 22:24SPEAKER_03: You don't want to see it.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: I I let one of my investors look at it the other my notebook the other day, and he kept it for like three days.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: And when I went to the door to pick it up, he handed it back to me like he's like a mess.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: That was that.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Like, you lost three days over the lunch.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you think we're gonna do all that?
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh yeah.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: All right, man.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: And I gotta I gotta rein you in because otherwise.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: No, no, so I want to hear about how you got to the Walmart campus.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: Um I taught PA I taught but I had to go back to teaching during uh COVID.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: And no, this was before COVID.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: I had there's two times, three times in my career.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: I left in 15.
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: I had to go back in late 16 because I we were about to die, the business.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: And I so I went back, made money, uh, and I went up again in COVID.
- 23:23SPEAKER_03: But during the year 1617, I took a job at Pulaski Academy in Little Rock teaching senior English.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: I made the best money of my career there, by the way, teaching in a private school.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: That was different.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: I taught but I I was kind of like a hired gun for a year, I guess.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: Or oh, that sounds bad.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: Take that out.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I was I was there teaching for a year because I had to.
- 23:45SPEAKER_03: And um, a girl named Mary Claire Ryan was a student in my class.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, I know where this is.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: You know where this is.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: I know where it gets good.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Uh huh.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Shout out to Mary Claire.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Mary Claire graduated.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: I was a teacher.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: Uh she liked my class, you know, it was fun.
- 24:00SPEAKER_03: And we kind of, I guess, kind of stayed in touch.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: This is the Indian PL.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: That's that's a good one.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: Do you like cops?
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Do you like yeah, I p that's a that's a good one.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: So it got a mock backbone.
- 24:10SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Well, I think it's right in the front of Nope.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: I think it's because that's not it.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, there's a perfect Claire.
- 24:20SPEAKER_03: So Mary Clare's my student that year, fast forward to about four years ago.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: I get an email uh from Mason Wood at Colliers.
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: And shout out to Colliers.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Mason and Mary Claire, I think like they're like kids to us, you know.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: And I get a this email from this guy named Mason Wood, and I opened it up, and this is the funniest part of the story.
- 24:42SPEAKER_03: I would I start scanning the email, and I'm like, this is this is spam?
- 24:47SPEAKER_03: Spam.
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, there's no uh like looking at it, and then I kind of look at I'm hovering over delete, and there's this is uh junk mail.
- 24:57SPEAKER_03: And um then I'll start looking at it.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: There's this guy named Andrew copied, and he's like Walmart real estate.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: Sheller, shout out, yeah, yeah, and I think Chris McKissie was copied on there, and who I didn't know at the time, but I know well now.
- 25:11SPEAKER_03: I bet you do.
- 25:12SPEAKER_03: And uh, you know, Steve Lane copied, and I started thinking about it, and I was like, I better, I better think about this before I leave it.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: And I replied basically, what did the email?
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: Did you get a similar email?
- 25:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, I got it in person because I'm on I got a knock on my oh okay.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: Well, I got I got an email, and it and it was basically like almost like congratulations, you've been select or chosen, or consider you're being considered to have a a retail spot on the new campus.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: And I just replied I was working on some deck presentations for some other things, and and I was like, man, I could be up there is a Wednesday.
- 25:51SPEAKER_03: And I was like, it was a Wednesday, I remember that.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: So I could be out there Friday morning and meet you guys if this is real.
- 25:59SPEAKER_03: And uh I was there Friday morning, and Mary Claire Ryan, my former student, was in this boardroom.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: Mason Woods, isn't that nice?
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: Steve Lane, Andrew, I think was there, and I don't think Chris was there.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: Maybe he was on the campus?
- 26:14SPEAKER_03: No, this was at the Cawlier's office.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah, my first introduction.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: And Mason had the lead.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: I was so impressed with Steve Lane for putting these kids.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: He's a smart guy.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, you know, and I think he's Steve Lane's here.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: I think he knew that Mary Claire had the personal and I relationships are so important.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: I think we're learning that.
- 26:33SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, you know, oh yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: Relationships are the root the reason I'm sitting here, I think.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: I'm not a brilliant, I know I'm not a number of poet, right?
- 26:43SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm I mean I and I'm a dreamer, right?
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: That's good, but I need help, you know, a lot.
- 26:49SPEAKER_03: And anyway, my relationships and my you know have helped me.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: And Mary Claire, man, she's full.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: Did you know Mary?
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: Like, did you when I'm with it?
- 27:01SPEAKER_03: You didn't know until you walked it.
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: Well, we had emailed separately.
- 27:04SPEAKER_03: I was like, is that you?
- 27:05SPEAKER_03: And she was like, Yeah, isn't this crazy?
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: And I was like, I love you, girl, you know, or whatever you're doing, keep it keep going.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: And she said, I think we can get this done.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: I said, Well, I'm all in.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: And she and Mason made it happen for me.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: I don't know everyone else's exact personal story, but long story short, they helped us out, they made it worth I mean, they wanted to feature four, my understanding was four Arkansas companies on their campus.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: And um, you know, they're at the time, that's what I was told in Florida was struggling strongly considered.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: And it even have alcohol there, I thought this is wild.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: Which was shocking.
- 27:47SPEAKER_03: Like 20 years ago because of the culture for so long.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: Um, so that's a real being a part of that is amazing.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's mind-blowing to me.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Well, and for them to give, like, I mean, and they've done it for all of us, like the that live here, obviously, but like it's like a huge launch pad that they just like gave you, and they're like, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: We want to focus on, we want to put you in the center.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: Well, I tell my friends from other states, it's like Arkansas's I mean, uh Walmart's local business for us, and it really is.
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: And those of us that live here know that.
- 28:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, everyone we uh many of our friends are are employed and you know, just being on campus and meeting people.
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, I can walk into the craft, the national craft beer buyer from Walmart.
- 28:38SPEAKER_03: I can walk into our office and say, What's up?
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: How's it going today?
- 28:42SPEAKER_03: You know?
- 28:42SPEAKER_03: Well, we've been open.
- 28:43SPEAKER_03: You guys are opening uh I'm gonna say April 1st.
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Okay, but that's so we we're open and like the amount of walk-in tracks.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: He's like, could be April Fool's.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: That's the walking.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: It looks close when you walk by there, but I know you have a lot of red tape that I'm sure you have.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: Well, it's been it's moved really fast for the last two months, but it was nail's pace for a while.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: I think we've had well, y'all have some putting in vent hoods and I mean they just it takes they do they have done everything.
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: I think the Walmart operation has taught me this precision.
- 29:17SPEAKER_03: I just admire the precision with which they operate.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: It's mind-blowing.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: It's inspiring, to be honest.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: And being up here, I've like my wife, Heather.
- 29:28SPEAKER_03: Um, I get to give a shout out to her.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: She and John Lee are partners at New Province Brewing in Rogers.
- 29:36SPEAKER_03: We acquired, they acquired uh New Providence about four years ago from Derek McInra, their founder.
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: And they got a kind of a canning operation and better facilities for distribution and more production.
- 29:51SPEAKER_03: And we had always co-packed.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: Um, but I gotta give a shout out to New Province who cans all of Flyway's beer.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: So if you drink beer out of a tap in a restaurant or bar, it's made in North Little Rock at the original location.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: It's a kegging distribution.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, we send out 200 kegs a week and get 200 empties and clean them and refill them.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: It's like and at New Province, it's the same they pick up pallets and pallets of cans twice a week, both New Province and Flyway brand.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: But is all of it brewed in North Little Rock then you have to do it?
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: No, well, you brew it, you package it where you brew it.
- 30:28SPEAKER_03: So we brew the fly the flyway at New Province.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: Using our stuff.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and we share a lot of resources and services.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: Which is genius.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: You have to.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: Well, she's my bottling plant in the Coca-Cola model mentality.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: And um I'm kind of building this network.
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: We got Flyway Memphis now.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: That's the vanilla blonde.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: The vanilla blonde.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: I like the logo.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: So we have so we have a partnership with John Stevens, the Rich and Tone duck call guy, and he has a brand called Flying Duck.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: And his wife, Angie.
- 31:03SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: Check this out.
- 31:05SPEAKER_03: Tastes like it's cream soap, yeah.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: Yes, yes.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: His wife Angie and my wife Heather and John Lee are partners in New Province.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: John Stevens has the Flying Duck Tap Room, which is a flyaway New Province tap room in Stuttgart there at Rich and Tone Duck Calls, and it's amazing.
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: If you ever go to Stuttgart, you gotta go to the flying room.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: We have a place in Carlisle.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: Go.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: We did a tap Takeover Sunday, and my son gave away t-shirts every 30 minutes.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: You gotta go there.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: They got amazing duck calls.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: I think it's one of the largest warning.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Don't you go duck hunting pretty regularly?
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: I have, and I used to all the time, but then I had kids and I get invited on amazing duck hunts now.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: And I'm not even a I wasn't even a huge duck hunter.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: I was I'm a bird guy, you know.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: And uh flyways about migration, migrate, period.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: So most of most everything in Carlisle is like yeast and speckles.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: It's there's not many ducks.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: Oh specs is the story now, you know.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: Um the um it all changes, you know.
- 32:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: Well, duck hunting is such a huge part of the state's identity.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: That's a good one.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: So that's John Stevens' beer, his brand Flying Duck, which is I guess a line extension of Flyaway, sort of, but and his wife Angie and Heather New Province, and then I'm Flyaway.
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: So we got this cool little thing going, you know.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: But what's interesting in the beer, like the the blueberry, yeah, but people like, oh, try my beer, it tastes like cherry.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, tastes like cherry too.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like it like the it the vanilla and the blueberry, well, yeah, the notes are incredible.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: The other thing I like and the other thing I like is they're all like some of some of these craft beers, they're like eight or ten percent.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like these you can trial and not hate.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: Well, and not hate yourself to the next day.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:59SPEAKER_03: Um it's a good point, it's a good jumping point, real quick, to mention.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: Um we I about in 22 I got into really got into beverage innovation.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: I learned you know when they do that flying V?
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: Do you know why do you know why one side's always longer than the other?
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: No.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: Do you know Matt?
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: Although I was gonna take his hat.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: I'd heard that one.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: Can I tell you my my my beer sales joke?
- 33:28SPEAKER_00: I got a joke.
- 33:28SPEAKER_00: I got a joke.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: That's too good.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: But they do they do switch out, so they switch out.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: Because one side's longer than that.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: I knew that one.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: I thought you would have known it.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: I did.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: I'm mad at myself.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: Uh can I tell you mine?
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: It was a dad joke.
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: I heard I heard Willie Nelson and Sturgeil Simpson tell this side by side on our Instagram, and it like flashed back and forth.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: But uh, let's see if I can do it.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: Duck walks into a bar.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: A duck walks into a bar and comes over and he sits down, picks a nice center bar stool, and says, uh, hey bartender, give me a blue wing.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: And uh bartender says, We ain't got none.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: And that duck says, Quack.
- 34:18SPEAKER_03: He gets up and leaves.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: Uh the next day, around the same time, the same duck comes walking to the same bar, sits down, same bartender, same stool, and he says, Hey bartender, give me a blue wing.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: And uh bartender says, I told you yesterday I ain't got none.
- 34:37SPEAKER_03: Uh duck gets up and leaves.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: Please let me be able to do this.
- 34:42SPEAKER_03: And uh next day, third day in a row, the same duck comes walking to the bar and sits down at the same stool and looks at him.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Says, hey, bartender, give me a blue wing.
- 34:53SPEAKER_03: And that bartender gets duck, I done told you once, I done told you twice.
- 34:59SPEAKER_03: I'm telling you third time I ain't got no blue wing.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: If you come in here again, I'm gonna nail your feet to that bar rail.
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: Duck's like, quack, and he leaves.
- 35:12SPEAKER_03: And uh bartender's like, I told him, Well, that fourth day comes around, and that duck walks in, hey, sis down, said, Hey bartender, you got any nails?
- 35:25SPEAKER_03: He said, No.
- 35:26SPEAKER_04: He said, Give me the damn blue.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: You didn't get it.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: I went in the middle and was like, my problem is intelligent, yeah, because I I start laughing.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: I I get excited and then I scream.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: That's the first I saw Willie Nelson.
- 35:47SPEAKER_03: I saw Willie Nelson did his was better than you can find this on Instagram.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: You gotta look it up.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: I think I vote for the Willie Nelson version, but there's the circumstances blue.
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_04: Give me nose.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: I thought that was good.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: I have a question from Matt Marser.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: Which is your favorite?
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: What are your top three?
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, so so my top that I didn't think I would like is this one.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: Which one is that?
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: The the cotton top.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Shout out to John Stevens.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: This is the most let me let me rephrase it.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: This is the vanilla one.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: This is the most surprising.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: I'm I to be fair, and you've seen this, yeah.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: I am not a huge like IPA IPA guy, but this is probably my favorite.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: Which one's that?
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: The early bird is probably my favorite.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: So the and I would say the easiest drinker is the the blueberry.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: All day.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: But but this one was came out of left field.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: I didn't think I would like, and it has that aftertaste where it like brings me back to when you're a kid.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: It tastes like a cream soda that you're drinking, which you don't have to do.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: That was only on draft for several years at the flying duck only.
- 37:03SPEAKER_03: And it got so popular with the duck hunters there, like John was like, we gotta can this.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: And now that we have new province, and his wife is a partner, he's like, Hey, baby, can this for me?
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: They are all good.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would tell you the vanilla blonde ale, the cotton, and the and the blue wing, yeah, hands down.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: Like, there you go.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Because when you expect when you go into a bar and you're the flavored beers, sometimes it's either misses because it you don't taste any of it, or it's so overpowering.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, these are subtle on the back end.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Like, I like to your point, you said this is like a uh like a cream soda, 100% spot.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: Well, and to you, like we're probably not good.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: Like these two are amazing beers.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: Do you consider yourself a craft beer nerd?
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: No, that's not a trick.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: Well, that's good because we have always tried to do beer true to style, not most extreme.
- 37:56SPEAKER_03: I mean, the the there was a IPA, it's called International Bitterness Units, IBUs in beer.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: They used to be like calories are now.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: It used to be IB like 99 IBUs, like, oh my god, you the human palate can't even detect like over 40.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: You're just burning your tongue at some point.
- 38:14SPEAKER_03: And like we uh with our you mentioned the IPA, we a multi backbone sweep that cuts that bitterness.
- 38:22SPEAKER_03: And if you don't like that IPA, you don't like IPA.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: And I think you like that one?
- 38:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: Same thing with our brown ale that I'm so overwhelmed with how good these are.
- 38:31SPEAKER_03: Like you think you don't like dark beer.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: Try this with a with a turkey sandwich or a you know, or a steak.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: And if you don't like this, then you don't like dark beer, okay?
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: IPA is very good.
- 38:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so all of our beers are try understated, true to style, and well, I want to appeal to the masses, not the most uh official beer experts in the world.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: Not that there's anything wrong with it.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: But but if you had like Bush Light is like like he like he's a Bush Light.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, yeah.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: So like I mean it's like water.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: Well, so no, listen though, it's one of the best beers in the world for a reason because it's done the same way, exactly the same time.
- 39:09SPEAKER_03: Like you can drink it anytime, anywhere, any place, and it's the same.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: And that's what that's uh that's an inspiration.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: There it is.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: Cotton top.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: But do you put uh I wasn't expecting that one to I I knew this was gonna be good because you said how good it was and how popular it is.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: And it's really good.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: This one was the surprise.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: Cottontop.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: Because this one I think you could say to like I could say to my wife, who's not a big beer drinker, she'll she'll drink ultra or bushlight because it's not well she could she drink that on the beer.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: But she would like this this after a tennis match or whatever, you know?
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: Like yeah, it's great.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: It reminds me back in the day, like the lining cool, like the you know that that that beer again.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: It's still a big one.
- 39:51SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 39:52SPEAKER_03: I think we will have a tap room.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: We kind of got a vision for SEC towns, you know, uh tap rooms, and then have brew house.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: Locally.
- 40:01SPEAKER_03: Your brain is always running.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: So now so well, I want to talk about this too, because I think this it's important to talk about.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: It's innovation.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: Is this all yours?
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: This is not.
- 40:10SPEAKER_03: This is an example of something I'm working on with a guy named Alex.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: So what is this, Omar?
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: This is a non-alcoholic noonwheat.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: This is Spider-Man.
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: What's his name?
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: The actor?
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: Toby McGuire?
- 40:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this is his beer.
- 40:24SPEAKER_03: Do I get anything?
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: B Row.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Look at that.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: I got the hat for that.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: You got it.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: You got it.
- 40:29SPEAKER_03: You gotta get it back before the end of the show.
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: No, it's good.
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: This uh this is actually, we serve this in our Taperns now.
- 40:37SPEAKER_03: It's it's called B-Row, which I think is funny because he's a hero, Spider-Man hero.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: But uh B-Row for that.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: What is that one?
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: That's a uh Golden Pills, yeah.
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: King's So the my only?
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: But uh we're working on the outside looking in.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: I think we're gonna do a blue wing.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: It's like electric cars.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: Whenever you do yours, yeah, make it a good label.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: Like, why do they have to make electric cars, I believe?
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: Just like a really sweet spin.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: If you're not a fan of that label, yeah.
- 41:05SPEAKER_00: I'm like, if if I'm gonna make a non-alcoholic, I want it to look like one of these five.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be the odd man out that I'm gonna do it.
- 41:11SPEAKER_03: I think we're gonna do I think we'll have a blue I think foreshadowing, I think we'll have a blue wing in it.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: That that's an NA.
- 41:18SPEAKER_03: And I think it'll have a similar but different can design.
- 41:21SPEAKER_03: And I think we'll have a maybe a green wing infused non-alcoholic.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: So good.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: All right, we're coming up our time, so I have rapid fire for you.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: Hit rapid fire.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: So he's gonna be quick, quick, quick.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: Ready?
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: What are the top four or five menu items you're expecting to have on the Walmart campus?
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: Pizza.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: This uh Detroit style pizza is amazing.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: Uh we got our like a deep dish?
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: It's like a deep dish square pie.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: It's a square pizza, sort of.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: Um really good.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: Um you'll make that in.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: We got uh we got the system dialed in Memphis.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: We just opened Flyway Brecken Ridge in West Little Rock Friday, so we had a grand opening of the week.
- 42:03SPEAKER_03: You've been busy banging.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: How did we get him here?
- 42:05SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm everywhere, man.
- 42:07SPEAKER_03: Become a good friend quickly.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: I'm everywhere.
- 42:10SPEAKER_04: Uh this is how the Richard God.
- 42:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's not me.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: Richardson axe and Lachey.
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: It's not him.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: No, I'm kidding.
- 42:20SPEAKER_03: They give they feed my soul.
- 42:21SPEAKER_03: Uh Rapid Fire.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: Sorry.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: So pizza and pizza, uh, burgers, uh, and uh pizza, burgers, and wings.
- 42:32SPEAKER_03: So it'll be a full lunch and dinner menu.
- 42:34SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, man.
- 42:34SPEAKER_03: It's uh well, it's uh the standard menus available in the time.
- 42:38SPEAKER_03: But it'll be a lot of fun.
- 42:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we have Coca-Cola, sweet tea, you know, it's like a ch Think Chili's.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: But it's a flyaway time.
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: And then maybe intermittently we'll get gumbo.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: So we will have gumbo.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: Think about how the gents place is open, gear has opened.
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: So think about six months from now, five months from now, three months from now, you're gonna have rights, bam, gents, bam, bam, clementized, yeah, fly ice cream.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: And I feel like we're competing with all the other, like the these, the strip malls that they're doing.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: They're like, they're like each one of the things like, hey, this one's got dry bar, and this one's got um hot belly.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: This is cool.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: Ours is the coolest.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: Flyway aside, that's a that's a powerful wine.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: That's a big I mean, it's big hitters, and just to be mentioned in the breath is like it's um unbelievable.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: It's like seeing the beer out of the corner of my eye, you know, on the shelf in hope that day.
- 43:30SPEAKER_03: You know, it's like okay, rapid fire.
- 43:32SPEAKER_03: Website uh www.flywaybrewing.com.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 43:37SPEAKER_03: If folks want to find you before April, uh Flyway Fayetteville on Zion Road across from the mall behind Lowe's in Fayetteville.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: Uh uh North Little Rock at our original Argentina location, Taprim Restaurant, West Little Rock, Flyway, Breckinridge Village.
- 43:55SPEAKER_03: It's new entertainment developed there with De Lucas, the Rue Cafe, uh uh um Waldo's Chicken and Beer.
- 44:05SPEAKER_03: We like Waldo's uh movie theater concept that has duck pen bowling, I think it's killer in West Little Rock there, and then Flyway Memphis and the Edge District, where we have we acquired High Cotton and are partnering with them, like kind of like New Province in Tennessee, and we're in construction at West Point in Mississippi.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: So that's amazing.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't even know how about to start distributing it in South Carolina, Georgia.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: I mean it's happening.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: To your point, I we're thrilled to have you here today.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's amazing.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we are.
- 44:38SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: I'm honored, I want to say, honored to meet you.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: And don't be so honored to meet him each other.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: You guys are famous, and I'm just I just want to be trying to get there.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: So teacher, I'm just a teacher, man.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: It's easy for you to get there with what you have.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: Well, it's fun.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: I'm surrounded, I have to say, I'm surrounded by people way smarter than me.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: I listen, I talk a lot, and people don't think I listen, but I learn more than I, you know, just by observing, seeing, being around y'all has made me better.
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: Last question I have for you.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: If folks want to find canned stuff in Northwest Artists, I'll like they can go to Xencore and guess who?
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: And all these are you all over?
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: You know, all the major big stores.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: But what's a six-pack go for?
- 45:27SPEAKER_03: Uh$799,$899,$9.99.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: For a six-pack.
- 45:33SPEAKER_03: And you pay a little bit more because you're putting kids like Rome Foster through college next year and paying for him to play baseball.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: And you know, like it's it's a it's a little bit different.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: Walmart's could is giving back to Arkansas.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 100%.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: And they are changing our lives, and a lot of my friends and uh employees and team members, and I mean, changing lives.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: And I I I'm so grateful.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: Well, we are thrilled that you're here today.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: We're honored.
- 46:02SPEAKER_01: I'm glad to call you a friend, yeah, and a neighbor.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and thank you.
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: We're so excited for you guys to be able to do that.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: We're just getting started, aren't we?
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: We're just getting started.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: It's a lot to come, and I want to stay in touch with you too.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we will for sure.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: Cheers.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: Cheers.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: I gotta get a bureau.
- 46:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, y'all be good.
- 46:18SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
