- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. Today we are talking about
- 0:30embodied cognition. Now this is something we all
- 0:34organically know about, but don't maybe have an
- 0:37intellectualized. So why it's important is that it
- 0:40gets into the nitty gritty of shifting yourself.
- 0:44So at the beginning of this month, we're entering into the
- 0:463rd 30 days of the year. And it's important because a lot
- 0:50of us are stuck and that last push of that third 30 days in
- 0:54that quarter is always hard. It's always hard and you're
- 1:01tired. You might be, you know, running
- 1:05into roadblocks. So it becomes hard to get past
- 1:08those little roadblocks. And that's why when you go back
- 1:11and understand embodied cognition on a very like
- 1:14specific level, it can help you. So big concept.
- 1:18The idea is that the mind and the body are rooted together.
- 1:22We hear about that all the time, the mind, body process, but
- 1:26understanding it a little bit more really helps.
- 1:28So sometimes it's easy to push the mind and the body will
- 1:33follow, and sometimes it's easier to push the body and the
- 1:36mind will follow. So if you feel like just bummed
- 1:40out, you're just sad, you're just frustrated and you're
- 1:43sitting around, the body is expressing that emotion in
- 1:48itself. It's just sitting there.
- 1:50It's like a lump, as my mother used to say.
- 1:52You're sitting there like a lump on a log.
- 1:54And I would always, oh, I hate it when she says that.
- 1:57But the truth is I was probably sitting there like a lump on a
- 2:01log when I had anxiety. That was one of those things
- 2:04that was very, that is what I did.
- 2:06I stopped. Everything stopped and I
- 2:08hunkered down and I sat still. But that didn't necessarily help
- 2:11me. That actually made it worse
- 2:13because now I was just fearful sitting.
- 2:16And in order to break the pattern, I had to move the body
- 2:20first. So if I got up and I started
- 2:21moving and walking, going for a bike ride, doing something, it
- 2:25would help me break the pattern. And that is bodied cognition.
- 2:30We're using the body to train the brain and let's just like we
- 2:34can use the train the brain to train the body.
- 2:36Sometimes it's easier to use the body to train the brain.
- 2:39So if you're, if you're need to build more confidence, if you
- 2:42need to build yourself up, sometimes it's easier to say act
- 2:45as if we've all heard everybody say, well, fake it till you make
- 2:48it. That's part of that process,
- 2:51embodied cognition. So where this comes into play
- 2:55right now is wherever you are in this 90 day process of the
- 2:59beginning of the year tends to set the tone for the rest of the
- 3:03year. Believe it or not, it really
- 3:05does. Because if you can figure out
- 3:07where you are right now and then push that last 30 days, really
- 3:12make a solid push going into this month to say, Oh, I'm going
- 3:17to finish strong because it doesn't feel like a finish line
- 3:20right now because it's the beginning of the year.
- 3:22So we think we have the whole year and we think, oh, it's
- 3:25cold. And for most people it we're in
- 3:28winter, unless you're our friends listening in Australia,
- 3:30on the other side of the planet, we are in winter and it hasn't
- 3:33been a pleasant one. And we're, we have lots of like
- 3:37wonky weather and it, you know, the light, while yes, the
- 3:40sunlight is coming up sooner, which is a blessing, it still
- 3:44feels like winter and it's not fun.
- 3:47And we're just so it shifts our moods again, because we're all
- 3:51so tied. Everything in our lives become
- 3:54so tied to each other. And these 30 days are just epic.
- 3:59If you can crush it for these 30 days, if you can push yourself,
- 4:04it will set the tone for the rest of the year knowing that
- 4:07you finished that first quarter strong.
- 4:10You poured in hard. You did what you needed to do.
- 4:12You acted as if you you just moved into it.
- 4:16You understood the concepts and you were like, OK, I am going to
- 4:20push myself in that way. And sometimes it's OK to push
- 4:24yourself. And in my opinion, this is one
- 4:26of those times if you've got something and you need to say to
- 4:30yourself, I need to kick my own butt, then kick your own butt.
- 4:33It's it's the nature of the beast.
- 4:35If you work with a coach, then make sure the coach is kicking
- 4:37your butt. I mean, I'm doing that with my
- 4:39clients right now and I know my coach is kicking my butt.
- 4:42So sometimes you just have to because it's a long winter, my
- 4:46friends. And typically March is that last
- 4:49push. And when we finish March, it's
- 4:52glorious because we know we made it.
- 4:54We made it through that darkness and we're headed into the spring
- 4:57where it is for most people, the feeling of just a breath of
- 5:03fresh air and open those windows, get out the stagnation
- 5:08and go. But sometimes to get to that
- 5:10point, you've got to change your perspective.
- 5:13You've got to challenge the traditional views.
- 5:15You've got to separate yourself from what the conditions are
- 5:18that you're currently in. And you've got to say, Nope, I'm
- 5:20kicking my own butt. I'm changing my perception and
- 5:23I'm going to move forward with this because that's what I
- 5:25choose to do. All right, my friends, go out
- 5:29there and crush it today and focus on that embodied
- 5:33cognition. Own it.
- 5:34All right, I will see you all tomorrow and have a blessed day.
- 5:37Bye.
