- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes seven thirty nine and seven forty
- 0:15Speaker 1: The Strongest Creature, one of the four Emperors, Kaido, King
- 0:19Speaker 1: of the Beasts, and Fujiitura takes action the complete siege
- 0:25Speaker 1: of the straw Hats In these episodes. My predictions with
- 0:31Speaker 1: Florian yesterday are proven wrong on almost every count. Everything
- 0:37Speaker 1: I said is not how it goes at all. I
- 0:40Speaker 1: am left wondering what's happening. Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome
- 1:04Speaker 1: to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very
- 1:07Speaker 1: much to Florian for commissioning this episode. And I have Florian,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Bernadette and Saraphem in the audience today, which is delightful.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Great to see you guys. So yeah, I was super
- 1:20Speaker 1: wrong everybody about how things are gonna go down. It's
- 1:24Speaker 1: so funny. I think I said minimum it's gonna be
- 1:27Speaker 1: another six episodes without the rest of the straw Hats
- 1:30Speaker 1: turning up, and then that is the very first thing
- 1:34Speaker 1: that we get in episode seven thirty nine is the
- 1:38Speaker 1: other straw Hats. It's a weird The way that this
- 1:41Speaker 1: is done isn't how I was expecting it. To be handled.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I thought we would sort of go back in time
- 1:51Speaker 1: of it to what was going on with them, and
- 1:53Speaker 1: that like then we would watch their separate arc and
- 2:00Speaker 1: catch up to the time that we are currently at
- 2:03Speaker 1: in the dress Rosa area. But the way that it's
- 2:07Speaker 1: being done is like in media res where we're joining
- 2:14Speaker 1: them while they are in the midst of a whole
- 2:18Speaker 1: situation that has been ongoing, which we have not seen,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and we don't I'll say that, like because Florian had
- 2:29Speaker 1: said something about how maybe like once I find out
- 2:34Speaker 1: what's going on, maybe I'll feel like it was worth
- 2:38Speaker 1: it or not. You know, he wasn't really trying to
- 2:40Speaker 1: lead me. He was just sort of saying, like, but
- 2:43Speaker 1: I haven't seen enough of their situation to judge yet.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Even within the episode where we see them, they're only
- 2:52Speaker 1: in about half of the episode total, so it's really
- 2:58Speaker 1: like we're just getting sort of a sneak peak that
- 3:00Speaker 1: they are alive, that they are doing things, but we're
- 3:05Speaker 1: being dropped into stuff without much explanation as to who
- 3:08Speaker 1: anyone is, what anybody's goals are. It's like our half
- 3:14Speaker 1: crew has already even been separated from one another, so
- 3:18Speaker 1: we have Soanjy and Chopper together in one area, but
- 3:23Speaker 1: then we've got Nammy and Brooke and what is his name,
- 3:28Speaker 1: amos Uke in another area. And I think that was
- 3:33Speaker 1: the part that kind of like irritated me about this,
- 3:37Speaker 1: is not only have our straw hats been separated from
- 3:41Speaker 1: one another here on dress Rosa where there's a bunch
- 3:44Speaker 1: of them that we don't see, but then even that
- 3:46Speaker 1: group has been separated from one another as well. And
- 3:49Speaker 1: I'm just sort of like, oh my god, you guys,
- 3:51Speaker 1: can you please not every time? Every time? Saraphim said,
- 4:00Speaker 1: so missed last time? One bit of cultural slash language
- 4:03Speaker 1: context for why the scene of t Ssabo getting his
- 4:06Speaker 1: memory backed kept playing. The scene of the brothers drinking
- 4:08Speaker 1: thesake together. Akayana's real name is Sakazuki. That is also
- 4:14Speaker 1: the term for the ceremony that the three did to
- 4:17Speaker 1: bond as brothers, So it's supposed to be it's seeing
- 4:20Speaker 1: those three names all together that triggered him to remember.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Oh that's interesting. Okay. There's so much like language stuff
- 4:29Speaker 1: in this story that doesn't work in English, you know,
- 4:34Speaker 1: like the jokes they've managed to translate pretty well. A
- 4:37Speaker 1: lot of the time, but there are a lot of
- 4:38Speaker 1: little things like that or like puns, and I this
- 4:44Speaker 1: is not like me calling out the translators or anything.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I'm not really sure if there's anything to be done,
- 4:50Speaker 1: but I appreciate that you guys are like telling me
- 4:54Speaker 1: about this stuff, because I feel like it would be
- 4:56Speaker 1: really really easy for anybody who isn't watching with folks
- 5:01Speaker 1: who know this, They're they're going to miss all of that,
- 5:04Speaker 1: you know, And I wonder there's gotta be somebody out
- 5:07Speaker 1: there that's like put together a whole bunch of information
- 5:14Speaker 1: for every episode with all of the like little jokes
- 5:16Speaker 1: and details that don't come across in English, and I
- 5:21Speaker 1: would be sort of interested to see it, just saying anyway, Okay,
- 5:26Speaker 1: so this uh, this episode, like I said, it starts off, well,
- 5:32Speaker 1: it doesn't. It doesn't start off with I lie, I lie.
- 5:34Speaker 1: It starts off back in the cabin the cottage, I guess,
- 5:39Speaker 1: is what we're calling it, with Kiros and the straw hats.
- 5:43Speaker 1: The reason that I don't really I didn't really like
- 5:47Speaker 1: think of this as the beginning of this episode is
- 5:49Speaker 1: because there's not a whole lot new that happens here.
- 5:52Speaker 1: It's Sabo wrapping up his story which we saw at
- 5:55Speaker 1: the end of the last episode with him flying away
- 5:57Speaker 1: on the backs of birds with no explanation, and then
- 6:00Speaker 1: there's Zoro offering to share a drink with Kiros and saying,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you know, eventually that he would like to spar with him,
- 6:08Speaker 1: and he comes to a point where he's like, you
- 6:11Speaker 1: can have the rest of this booze, and Kiros is like, thanks,
- 6:14Speaker 1: but it is also my booze, which I thought was
- 6:17Speaker 1: pretty funny. And we have this like it's sort of
- 6:25Speaker 1: like a preview moment of what Kiros is going to
- 6:30Speaker 1: do in the next episode, and I think that I
- 6:32Speaker 1: just kind of want to talk about this like off
- 6:34Speaker 1: the top of you guys, because I just, like y'all know,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I have not really had time for Rebecca or the
- 6:43Speaker 1: way that Kiros has been handled, and I am really
- 6:50Speaker 1: really irritated by this development. I don't think this should
- 6:54Speaker 1: surprise anybody. It's just like the idea that you were
- 7:00Speaker 1: you were transformed into this other thing. Her whole life
- 7:06Speaker 1: and I say her whole life, like granted, not really
- 7:09Speaker 1: her whole life, but it seems like she has spent
- 7:14Speaker 1: more time with the toy Soldier than she spent with
- 7:17Speaker 1: her human dad, right, I think we could say that.
- 7:24Speaker 1: In the next episode, there is this scene of a
- 7:29Speaker 1: rumor that is going around all of dress Rosa, and
- 7:37Speaker 1: it was sort of odd because I wondered, I think
- 7:42Speaker 1: we're all supposed to be sort of like, that's why
- 7:45Speaker 1: is this lie going around? But there was a part
- 7:47Speaker 1: of me that thought, like, wait, are we going to
- 7:49Speaker 1: find out that Kiros is actually a prince somewhere? Like?
- 7:54Speaker 1: Is that what this is? That the rumor mill has
- 7:57Speaker 1: finally caught up to him and somebody has figured out
- 8:00Speaker 1: who he is, because it would make sense a little
- 8:03Speaker 1: bit if you know, it's been years and years since
- 8:07Speaker 1: anybody even remembered Kiros due to him being transformed erasist
- 8:12Speaker 1: people's memory, so maybe nobody had been able to find
- 8:18Speaker 1: this out about him because they didn't remember him. And
- 8:21Speaker 1: then he comes back to folks memories and people start
- 8:25Speaker 1: looking into it and figuring out who he is. But
- 8:29Speaker 1: it didn't really make sense in this short amount of
- 8:31Speaker 1: time for them to have unearthed this information about him,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and it would have been information that had come up
- 8:38Speaker 1: earlier anyway, Like the whole thing just didn't really work.
- 8:42Speaker 1: So and we have a scene where Rebecca is being
- 8:47Speaker 1: dressed in a gown and it's like her first time
- 8:50Speaker 1: that we're seeing her out of armor. She's wearing a
- 8:53Speaker 1: dress that looks so much like Bell's gold ball gown
- 8:57Speaker 1: in Beauty and the Beast. But she hears the maids
- 9:02Speaker 1: who are like helping them dress and everything, and they
- 9:07Speaker 1: are talking about this romantic story regarding this prince who
- 9:14Speaker 1: ran away from his homeland in order to marry Rebecca's
- 9:18Speaker 1: mother and they had to elope, and this would mean
- 9:23Speaker 1: that Rebecca is full blooded nobility royalty, however you want
- 9:30Speaker 1: to phrase that, And Rebecca looks very agitated as she
- 9:35Speaker 1: is hearing this, and we eventually go back to Kiros's
- 9:44Speaker 1: cottage and the straw hats are just like, did you
- 9:48Speaker 1: guys hear this rumor? It's super weird. I don't know
- 9:51Speaker 1: where this has come from, because like it's clearly not true.
- 9:55Speaker 1: And then Kiros admits he is the one who's sircus
- 10:00Speaker 1: related the rumor, and he explains that Rebecca won't have
- 10:11Speaker 1: as good a life if she is believed to be
- 10:17Speaker 1: the child of somebody of such low birth as him,
- 10:22Speaker 1: and that he is going to spread this rumor that
- 10:27Speaker 1: her dad was actually nobility and then sail away into
- 10:33Speaker 1: the sunset and leave her, and that he thinks this
- 10:40Speaker 1: is going to make her life better. Yeah, do I
- 10:50Speaker 1: even need to say it? This is so stupid, This
- 10:53Speaker 1: is idiotic, this is assinine. On no level do I
- 10:59Speaker 1: think this makes any sense. It's like, maybe this is
- 11:04Speaker 1: supposed to be so obviously a bad idea, and eventually
- 11:11Speaker 1: he gets talked out of it, and you know that's
- 11:13Speaker 1: the thing, is that like he is being foolish here.
- 11:16Speaker 1: But I think that what it comes down to is
- 11:19Speaker 1: that I just don't want to spend the time on
- 11:22Speaker 1: this because it's not an interesting plot twist or development.
- 11:27Speaker 1: It's just this annoying thing that now we have to
- 11:30Speaker 1: like sit through. And it feels idiotic to me to
- 11:35Speaker 1: be like, I'm going to have been a toy that
- 11:38Speaker 1: lamented how my daughter can't remember me, that I have
- 11:41Speaker 1: no relationship with her, and then I am going to,
- 11:46Speaker 1: as soon as she gets a chance to actually see
- 11:48Speaker 1: me and remember me, fucking bail on her because I
- 11:52Speaker 1: have determined it will be better for her life, like
- 11:56Speaker 1: as if she were still five years old. And it's
- 12:00Speaker 1: just so like, incredibly it's very selfish actually, like I
- 12:05Speaker 1: think he thinks he's being selfless, but it's not. It
- 12:07Speaker 1: just feels like he's ashamed, and so he has decided
- 12:11Speaker 1: to like do a thing that will make things easier
- 12:15Speaker 1: on himself somehow I don't know. And and ultimately I
- 12:20Speaker 1: also just don't really believe that anybody is going to
- 12:23Speaker 1: fucking care who her dad is. And it's like, all
- 12:29Speaker 1: things considered with this whole arc, who do Flamingo is
- 12:36Speaker 1: a former celestial dragon and the highest of nobility, and
- 12:42Speaker 1: he was garbage. He was a monster and a maniac.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I thought that what we were doing here was like
- 12:52Speaker 1: doing a Hey, it's not about who you were born,
- 12:56Speaker 1: it's about who you decide to be. So if that
- 13:00Speaker 1: is indeed the thing, and I have to sit here
- 13:03Speaker 1: and watch us all come to that conclusion together, I
- 13:08Speaker 1: am going to be very very bored. Just FYI. I
- 13:13Speaker 1: will complain and I'm sorry about it, but I can't
- 13:17Speaker 1: take responsibility for the story deciding to do stupid shit.
- 13:21Speaker 1: And I'm just gonna say it like that, Like there
- 13:24Speaker 1: are a lot of times where me not liking something,
- 13:28Speaker 1: I feel bad because I feel like I'm making you
- 13:30Speaker 1: guys sit here and listen to me wine and complain
- 13:32Speaker 1: about it, and I don't like making that kind of content,
- 13:34Speaker 1: And then there comes a point where I'm just like,
- 13:36Speaker 1: it's the content's fault, you know. I try and make
- 13:39Speaker 1: the best of it where I can, But there's a
- 13:41Speaker 1: line where you are actively baiting me now content you
- 13:47Speaker 1: are wanting me to be pissed. I can't. I don't
- 13:50Speaker 1: know how else to interpret doing something that's blatantly aggravating,
- 13:55Speaker 1: and it feels personal. It feels like Oda hear me
- 14:01Speaker 1: from the past bitching and moaning about Kiros and Rebecca
- 14:05Speaker 1: and rubbed his hands together and was like, I know
- 14:07Speaker 1: how I'm gonna annoy you even worse, And so part
- 14:11Speaker 1: of me feels like maybe I should just treat this
- 14:13Speaker 1: like a a fun experiment of how much you can
- 14:17Speaker 1: do with characters that I already don't care about to
- 14:19Speaker 1: further annoy me. And right now at the start of this,
- 14:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna put this at like a level eight out
- 14:28Speaker 1: of ten, where there are a few things that I
- 14:32Speaker 1: think I would get more annoyed about than starting a
- 14:36Speaker 1: whole another thing between the two of them, because frankly,
- 14:39Speaker 1: I the thing I was looking forward to the like
- 14:42Speaker 1: wrapping up the dress Rosa Arc. The only thing that
- 14:47Speaker 1: I really would be relieved to say goodbye to was
- 14:51Speaker 1: these two people. And now we're doing a whole nother
- 14:55Speaker 1: thing with the least interesting part of the story. And
- 15:00Speaker 1: and I had thought, I really thought that we were done,
- 15:03Speaker 1: that we were putting this to bed, and I got
- 15:05Speaker 1: my hopes all up, and then it has turned out
- 15:08Speaker 1: to be, like it's gonna be, there's a whole other
- 15:11Speaker 1: thing that we're gonna have to go through. I don't
- 15:14Speaker 1: want it, and so I think that's what I'm gonna
- 15:17Speaker 1: do is I'm gonna try and like just treat this
- 15:19Speaker 1: as a little bit of a ongoing joke about how
- 15:23Speaker 1: annoyed out of ten I am, because I don't know
- 15:27Speaker 1: how else to make this fun. But I just, y'all,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I don't think anybody is surprised by my feelings on this.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Bernadette says, well, I think I need to repeat the
- 15:38Speaker 1: brightest candle on the cake thing for him as well,
- 15:40Speaker 1: because he really is one dense motherfucker he is, though.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Florian says, yeah, he wants the best for her, but
- 15:46Speaker 1: does not consider what she wants what a man exactly.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Sarahim says, yeah, he's massively stuck in his own head
- 15:53Speaker 1: about his past misdeeds make him unfair to be a
- 15:55Speaker 1: good person at all, and Rebecca deserves better than him,
- 15:59Speaker 1: and Orian says, these two are the gift that keeps
- 16:02Speaker 1: on giving. I guess in the worst way possible. I
- 16:08Speaker 1: feel like I should develop a segment on the show
- 16:14Speaker 1: that's like, it's reserved for whatever my least favorite subplot
- 16:21Speaker 1: of the arc is, and I'll get a little like
- 16:28Speaker 1: trophy made a little award and say, for you know,
- 16:32Speaker 1: this episode, the worst arc of the episode goes to
- 16:36Speaker 1: drum roll please, and then I'll present it to a character.
- 16:41Speaker 1: But yeah, it's just it's it's not just that this
- 16:46Speaker 1: is happening and that it's foolish of him and that
- 16:49Speaker 1: he doesn't consult her, and we have the whole thing
- 16:52Speaker 1: of her like seeing the rose pedal and it being
- 16:56Speaker 1: a signal that like he's around and all this to
- 16:59Speaker 1: remind her. It's also, of course that we're drawing things
- 17:05Speaker 1: out as well, so it's all done very slowly and
- 17:09Speaker 1: there's just lots of like I think the thing that
- 17:14Speaker 1: if you were to ask me what about one piece,
- 17:21Speaker 1: it falls the flattest for me. You guys, know like
- 17:26Speaker 1: I have done a few times jokingly but also not
- 17:30Speaker 1: quite totally joking. I have re enacted for you all
- 17:35Speaker 1: the length of time that a character is going when
- 17:41Speaker 1: they're like shocked and have their mouth hanging open and
- 17:44Speaker 1: they're looking at something incredible that's happening, And honestly, over time,
- 17:51Speaker 1: that particular type of filler has kind of warmed its
- 17:56Speaker 1: way into my heart a little bit. It's sort of
- 17:59Speaker 1: like I covered Avatar with my husband several years ago
- 18:04Speaker 1: as a fundraiser for our wedding, and there was a
- 18:09Speaker 1: slide whistle in one of the first episodes of Avatar
- 18:11Speaker 1: that we made fun of so hard, and then over
- 18:15Speaker 1: time the slide whistle became one of our favorite things
- 18:19Speaker 1: in the show. Every time they broke out the slide whistle,
- 18:21Speaker 1: we would cheer and just love it. And so I
- 18:24Speaker 1: feel like I've sort of like it was such an
- 18:26Speaker 1: obnoxious thing when I first began, and now it's sort
- 18:30Speaker 1: of turned a corner where they kept that going so
- 18:33Speaker 1: long and so hard and committed to it so intensely
- 18:36Speaker 1: that I can't help but admire a little bit how
- 18:40Speaker 1: transparently filler it is, and it's just its own thing
- 18:45Speaker 1: and I'm sure those of you who are familiar with
- 18:49Speaker 1: other anime and who are watching them like that this
- 18:53Speaker 1: is not unique to One Piece. I'm sure that this
- 18:56Speaker 1: is the way a lot of anime handle filler. But
- 19:01Speaker 1: I don't watch a lot of anime. The only other
- 19:04Speaker 1: anime that I have watched and covered for the show
- 19:06Speaker 1: was a Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, and not much filler
- 19:13Speaker 1: in that show, not really in comparison to One Piece anyway.
- 19:17Speaker 1: So you would think if I were naming like one
- 19:22Speaker 1: of my most frustrating aspects for this show, it would
- 19:27Speaker 1: be something like that. But actually that is lighthearted enough
- 19:30Speaker 1: and it's sort of silly enough that it feels in
- 19:33Speaker 1: keeping with everything. But I think the thing that tends
- 19:37Speaker 1: to fall the flattest is when they are doing these
- 19:41Speaker 1: emotional moments in the show of a character who's getting
- 19:45Speaker 1: really teary eyed, and we do repetitive flashbacks, we do
- 19:51Speaker 1: the like the sound of them like either actually crying
- 20:02Speaker 1: or on the verge of crying, or you know that
- 20:05Speaker 1: just that sound of like distress. I no Seraphim says,
- 20:13Speaker 1: One Piece is actually notable for having much less filler
- 20:15Speaker 1: than other anime of its generation, like Naruto or dragonball
- 20:19Speaker 1: Z Wild. But I think the reason that one works
- 20:26Speaker 1: for me and the other does and is one feels
- 20:28Speaker 1: like it knows that it's silly, and the other feels
- 20:32Speaker 1: like it is trying for an emotional response from me
- 20:36Speaker 1: that it rarely actually is good enough to elicit. And
- 20:41Speaker 1: I have kind of a low tolerance for anything, not
- 20:46Speaker 1: just one piece, but any TV show or any book
- 20:50Speaker 1: that I get the feeling I'm being sort of manipulated
- 20:53Speaker 1: into having a certain reaction to something, because that is
- 20:59Speaker 1: something that's to be earned by making me actually care
- 21:03Speaker 1: about characters, and then you put them in situations after
- 21:07Speaker 1: I've grown to care about them, and now I'm invested,
- 21:11Speaker 1: and so I have the emotional response. And I would
- 21:15Speaker 1: have that response to even something very minor occurring simply
- 21:19Speaker 1: because I am so interested in these people. But it's
- 21:25Speaker 1: something like I will bring up Doctor Who here, which
- 21:31Speaker 1: is something that I often will compare with one piece
- 21:34Speaker 1: in favor of one piece, almost always, because Doctor Who
- 21:38Speaker 1: is a very one piece like show, but it doesn't
- 21:42Speaker 1: want to admit that it is Doctor Who wants to
- 21:47Speaker 1: be taken more seriously and be seen as more like
- 21:52Speaker 1: having commentary about things and whatnot. In a way that
- 21:56Speaker 1: is like at odds completely with the way pace and
- 22:01Speaker 1: plot are written, so I can't forgive that. If a
- 22:07Speaker 1: property knows what it is and it commits to that,
- 22:12Speaker 1: that's like ninety percent of the battle in my opinion,
- 22:15Speaker 1: and I feel like one piece. That's why it, being
- 22:18Speaker 1: as silly as it is works so well because it
- 22:21Speaker 1: is aware it is silly, and sometimes it'll come up
- 22:24Speaker 1: with stuff that's like actual emotional backstory on a thing
- 22:27Speaker 1: like fucking send your pink and his tragic you know
- 22:31Speaker 1: wife and that horrible thing, Like all of that turns
- 22:35Speaker 1: a completely bonkers silly character into something that is like
- 22:41Speaker 1: a little heart wrenching and tragic. But it never feels
- 22:47Speaker 1: like that is even that serious. Do you get what
- 22:51Speaker 1: I'm saying. It feels like tonally it all goes together.
- 22:57Speaker 1: And then there are moments like this with Rebecca and
- 23:00Speaker 1: her dad where it's not as frequent on this show,
- 23:06Speaker 1: which is why I am not usually this harsh about
- 23:10Speaker 1: one particular plot, But every now and then you'll get
- 23:14Speaker 1: something where it seems like he really thought he was
- 23:18Speaker 1: doing something with these characters. He really thought he was
- 23:21Speaker 1: setting up like this tugging on the heartstrings sort of
- 23:25Speaker 1: emotional through line, and it just isn't actually there. It's
- 23:31Speaker 1: got all of the ingredients for that, but they haven't
- 23:36Speaker 1: been assembled properly. You know. It's like I can have
- 23:40Speaker 1: the flour and eggs and butter and sugar to make
- 23:44Speaker 1: a cake, but if I just mash the eggs into
- 23:48Speaker 1: the flour and then roll that around the butter and
- 23:52Speaker 1: stick that in the oven, that is not going to
- 23:54Speaker 1: turn her out to be cake. That's going to be
- 23:56Speaker 1: something else. And that's what it feels like. He's yeah,
- 24:00Speaker 1: this memory thing, a father daughter, tragic death of the mother,
- 24:06Speaker 1: him being unable to communicate with her, her having to
- 24:09Speaker 1: go into the fighting rings. All of this sounds on
- 24:12Speaker 1: paper like it should be so compelling. If you told
- 24:16Speaker 1: me about this in a vacuum and then told me
- 24:19Speaker 1: I was gonna hate this plot and find it super boring,
- 24:22Speaker 1: I don't think i'd believe you, because it just doesn't
- 24:24Speaker 1: sound like it should fucking suck like this. But for
- 24:28Speaker 1: a variety of reasons, and most of those reasons really
- 24:33Speaker 1: sent her around. Rebecca being the most milk toast, bland,
- 24:39Speaker 1: nothing character, which feels like straight up misogyny. A lot
- 24:45Speaker 1: of it that has completely like scuttled all of the
- 24:50Speaker 1: drama of the rest of the thing, and having her
- 24:55Speaker 1: be as boring as she is, giving her no moments.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Every time I thought she was getting a moment, it
- 25:02Speaker 1: really wasn't, and then her father being a fucking dink.
- 25:08Speaker 1: It's so sad. There was so much potential here, there
- 25:12Speaker 1: was so much that could have happened, and so having
- 25:17Speaker 1: in the next episode a very great deal of it
- 25:21Speaker 1: devoted to flashbacks between her and her father and him
- 25:26Speaker 1: reflecting on what he's trying to do for her own good.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I am deeply, deeply impatient. There is nothing worse in
- 25:39Speaker 1: general than a plot beat that begins and you already
- 25:45Speaker 1: feel like you know exactly where we're going, and now
- 25:47Speaker 1: you just have to like cross your arms and sit
- 25:50Speaker 1: through it. It happens in all kinds of media, and
- 25:55Speaker 1: you know, sometimes you'll get surprised and you'll cross your
- 25:58Speaker 1: arms get ready to sit through it, and they'll throw
- 26:00Speaker 1: you a curveball and you're like, oh word, and you
- 26:02Speaker 1: get interested because it turns out they're not doing the thing.
- 26:05Speaker 1: But a lot of the time you have this reaction
- 26:08Speaker 1: because it is going to be exactly what you expect.
- 26:11Speaker 1: It to be. So this is me crossing my arms
- 26:14Speaker 1: right now. I suspect she is going to have to
- 26:18Speaker 1: find him and convince him that she doesn't care how
- 26:21Speaker 1: like you know who he was, how low he was born.
- 26:26Speaker 1: He's not going to believe her, Probably like King Riku
- 26:30Speaker 1: is going to have to step in and be like,
- 26:32Speaker 1: I shouldn't have made my daughter like go away and
- 26:36Speaker 1: live somewhere else and pretend she was dead. I regret
- 26:42Speaker 1: doing that now, or I hope so anyway, I'll say
- 26:46Speaker 1: that if King Riku is like, no, I was right
- 26:48Speaker 1: to make my daughter to pretend that she was dead
- 26:51Speaker 1: and make her go away, that is some nasty work,
- 26:53Speaker 1: and I will think a lot less of you, King Riku.
- 26:56Speaker 1: But I think that's what it's going to be, is
- 26:59Speaker 1: just a sort of of like going through the everybody
- 27:04Speaker 1: actually respects you and thinks that you're incredible and owes
- 27:09Speaker 1: you so much, and you are just as important as
- 27:11Speaker 1: a real prince, and yay, you get to stay and
- 27:16Speaker 1: be my dad after all. So that's my prediction for that,
- 27:21Speaker 1: And if I'm wrong, I will be delighted. Just for
- 27:26Speaker 1: the record, I hope I am. But I do not
- 27:29Speaker 1: think I'm going to be so okay. The whole thing
- 27:38Speaker 1: going on on this island, the two different storylines that
- 27:40Speaker 1: are happening are It's really weird because like we're getting
- 27:46Speaker 1: a little bit of information but only the very very
- 27:52Speaker 1: tip of each of those plots. When we go to
- 27:57Speaker 1: Sanjy and Chopper and see clown, Caesar is saying something
- 28:03Speaker 1: like I'm warning you, for the safety of you and
- 28:08Speaker 1: your crew, not to stick your nose in their affairs,
- 28:12Speaker 1: and both Sanji and Chopper are very very fixated on
- 28:20Speaker 1: whatever it is that they are trying to accomplish, to
- 28:23Speaker 1: the point where Sanji whips out Caesar's heart and squeezes
- 28:30Speaker 1: the shit out of it and is like, we are
- 28:33Speaker 1: going to go help them, and if we refuse, I
- 28:38Speaker 1: am going to fucking crush this and I don't give
- 28:40Speaker 1: a shit. And Chopper also gets like very very aggressive
- 28:46Speaker 1: about it and gets right up in Caesar's face and
- 28:48Speaker 1: is like, if you refuse to help them, they are
- 28:51Speaker 1: going to die. Do you fucking get it? And Caesar
- 28:56Speaker 1: it seems acquiesces now. I say it seems because I
- 29:03Speaker 1: don't know how he's gonna behave later. I don't know
- 29:06Speaker 1: what it is they're talking about. The fact that Chopper
- 29:09Speaker 1: is as aggressive about this as he is makes me
- 29:14Speaker 1: think that there might be something medical going on with somebody,
- 29:19Speaker 1: especially the fact that they have to get Caesar Clam's help.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I feel like he is what I want to call
- 29:27Speaker 1: Caesar to be honest, I know, like it's supposed to
- 29:29Speaker 1: be that he's a scientist, but what I want to
- 29:32Speaker 1: call him is a potions master. Like he's a mad scientist, sure,
- 29:38Speaker 1: but in a very like in a way that feels
- 29:42Speaker 1: like he's cackling over a bubbling cauldron, much more so
- 29:47Speaker 1: than messing with beakers. And I know we actually saw
- 29:52Speaker 1: the beakers. I'm not arguing about the realities. I'm arguing
- 29:55Speaker 1: about the vibes. Like he feels like a cackling witch
- 30:03Speaker 1: much more so than like really a scientist. This is
- 30:07Speaker 1: a guy who does shit just to see what'll happen,
- 30:12Speaker 1: in a much less like controlled feeling way. Anyway, I
- 30:20Speaker 1: think that there is like a group of people that
- 30:23Speaker 1: is dealing with some sort of sickness maybe, and they
- 30:27Speaker 1: need him for whatever reason, to actually help these people.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I'm curious, though, what it is that he thinks they
- 30:36Speaker 1: shouldn't be involved in it for, because like when he
- 30:39Speaker 1: argues with him about helping. I really do get the
- 30:42Speaker 1: impression that he thinks this is a bad idea. This
- 30:44Speaker 1: is not just him being petulant about assisting the folks
- 30:48Speaker 1: that have him prisoner. It feels like there's certainly a
- 30:52Speaker 1: little bit of that in there, but really it mostly
- 30:56Speaker 1: feels like he is a little bit panicked that he
- 31:04Speaker 1: is stuck with people who are going to put him
- 31:08Speaker 1: in danger and that they are not listening to his
- 31:12Speaker 1: good sense. So I guess we'll see what this is about.
- 31:16Speaker 1: But I don't really have a good theory on what
- 31:18Speaker 1: could be going on, because it could be just an illness,
- 31:21Speaker 1: but sticking your nose into their affairs, like maybe it's
- 31:24Speaker 1: something that's supposed to be really, really contagious. And that's
- 31:28Speaker 1: the thing is that he feels like we can't get
- 31:31Speaker 1: involved or we might catch it. Perhaps I don't know,
- 31:35Speaker 1: but it's I don't know. Sticking your nose into their
- 31:39Speaker 1: affairs just feels like it has a different tone to
- 31:43Speaker 1: it than worrying about them catching anything. I don't know.
- 31:47Speaker 1: So anyway, that's what's going on with them, and we
- 31:50Speaker 1: really like, as far as I recall, do not check
- 31:53Speaker 1: in with them again. This episode, the most time that
- 31:56Speaker 1: we spend here is with Nami Brook and Sanji not Sanji,
- 32:04Speaker 1: momo Suke. I keep forgetting his name. Is it Momonosuke?
- 32:09Speaker 1: I feel like it had more syllables than what I'm saying.
- 32:13Speaker 1: So they're running through the forest. It's a real weird
- 32:18Speaker 1: There's like this this pathway that is uneven ground that
- 32:24Speaker 1: Nami mentions, like how difficult it is to run on
- 32:26Speaker 1: this ground because it is so it almost looks like
- 32:30Speaker 1: a very exaggerated cobblestone street. And they are being chased
- 32:37Speaker 1: by somebody, and eventually they get cornered, and it's this
- 32:43Speaker 1: dude and this woman. The woman is in like practically
- 32:50Speaker 1: Rebecca's outfit of like a chain bikini kind of thing,
- 32:57Speaker 1: like an armored bikini. They both have horns, and they
- 33:02Speaker 1: both have cloaks. Hers is a real, real short, little
- 33:07Speaker 1: like shrug cloak with epaulets, and he has a massive
- 33:12Speaker 1: cloak that comes down to his feet. I just want
- 33:16Speaker 1: to mention that between this guy's cloak, Corasson's cloak, Do
- 33:26Speaker 1: Flamingo's cloak, and the cloak of Akkaido. Is that his name?
- 33:33Speaker 1: What's the name of the guy later that that falls
- 33:35Speaker 1: from the sky. Anyway, These like big fluffy feather cloaks
- 33:42Speaker 1: are very very popular out here, and I kind of
- 33:46Speaker 1: want one now. But yeah, this guy, he says later,
- 33:50Speaker 1: I think that his name is sheep's head, which is
- 33:53Speaker 1: just so very terrible. And I couldn't stop thinking about
- 33:59Speaker 1: the little guy who made them the they're going marry
- 34:04Speaker 1: their first ship because he had like a literal sheep's head.
- 34:08Speaker 1: I guess it was more of a ram's head. Is
- 34:12Speaker 1: a ram a different type of animal? Or is a
- 34:14Speaker 1: ram just a male sheep? Actually, now I'm asking this
- 34:18Speaker 1: question like I genuinely do not know. Hold on, guys,
- 34:21Speaker 1: I'm so sorry about this, but it's fine. There's only
- 34:24Speaker 1: two episodes to cover, and I think it'll be fine.
- 34:28Speaker 1: What is a ram? Thank you Google? A RAM or
- 34:35Speaker 1: random access memory? That's not what I wanted. What is
- 34:43Speaker 1: a ram? Animal? Here we go. An adult female is
- 34:46Speaker 1: referred to a you, an intact male as a ram,
- 34:50Speaker 1: occasionally a tup, a castrated male as a weather, and
- 34:57Speaker 1: a young sheep as a lamb. I never heard weather.
- 35:00Speaker 1: It's w E t h e R. There's yet another
- 35:05Speaker 1: spelling for a word that sounds like weather. We've got
- 35:09Speaker 1: too many versions of the word weather. That's enough. Oh
- 35:13Speaker 1: my god, we have got to stop. That's just too many.
- 35:17Speaker 1: English is out of control. We gotta we gotta fucking
- 35:20Speaker 1: like come up with some other sounds to make guys,
- 35:23Speaker 1: this is excessive. Anyway, sheep's head is uh. He's like
- 35:31Speaker 1: coming at them with this energy that feels like they've
- 35:36Speaker 1: been chasing them for quite a while. There's a woman.
- 35:40Speaker 1: The woman's name is jin Rummy, which is hilarious. I
- 35:45Speaker 1: just like that is. And he says, tell us where
- 35:48Speaker 1: you hid the young lady? And how did you invaders
- 35:51Speaker 1: get on this island? And it's a like the way
- 35:56Speaker 1: that they are behaving is basically the they got chased.
- 36:01Speaker 1: From the start, they thought it was like, we're gonna
- 36:04Speaker 1: chase you to kill you. Nobody actually communicated it all.
- 36:08Speaker 1: And now that they have been cornered and he's asking
- 36:11Speaker 1: where did you put the young lady, nobody knows what
- 36:14Speaker 1: the fuck he's even talking about. So he thinks that
- 36:17Speaker 1: they are particular people where that are involved in something,
- 36:22Speaker 1: and they are not, but they were running in such
- 36:25Speaker 1: a way that it made it look like they were
- 36:27Speaker 1: one hundred percent involved in whatever this is. And they
- 36:31Speaker 1: get interrupted by a fucking geyser and it's coming down
- 36:40Speaker 1: on them like a fucking tsunami, And it doesn't occur
- 36:44Speaker 1: to me because I always fucking forget that both Momo,
- 36:50Speaker 1: thank you, Florian and Brooke have eaten devil fruits and
- 36:55Speaker 1: so they can't fucking swim, y'all. I am so like
- 37:02Speaker 1: bummed out by the side effect of a devil fruit.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I totally get why people eat a devil fruit, and
- 37:09Speaker 1: I don't even think not being able to swim is
- 37:13Speaker 1: necessarily enough of a downside to really make me not
- 37:17Speaker 1: eat one. Were I to find one, I think I
- 37:20Speaker 1: might just do it and take the risk. But it
- 37:25Speaker 1: really does come up at terrible times in the moments
- 37:30Speaker 1: where you need to be able to swim. You really
- 37:33Speaker 1: fucking need to be able to fucking swim, Like it.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Just Dommy manages to save them both, and thank God
- 37:41Speaker 1: for her, because if the whole way that this like
- 37:44Speaker 1: group breakdown had happened a little bit differently, then everybody
- 37:51Speaker 1: could have been somebody who ate a devil fruit and
- 37:52Speaker 1: nobody would have been there to fucking scoop any of
- 37:55Speaker 1: them out of this. Sorry is in the chat saying
- 38:01Speaker 1: girl English is so hard to learn. Pronunciation wise, it's unhinged.
- 38:05Speaker 1: It is truly like, as a native speaker, I have
- 38:10Speaker 1: a decent grasp of English overall, like far above average,
- 38:14Speaker 1: I would say, in terms of my overall grammar and
- 38:19Speaker 1: my accuracy when I'm like handwriting, and I frequently still
- 38:26Speaker 1: have to stop and be like, hold on, would I
- 38:30Speaker 1: be using the possessive apostrophe here or not? And my
- 38:35Speaker 1: favorite is using it's because everything you normally use the
- 38:40Speaker 1: possessive apostrophe for with it, you don't, so it's only
- 38:46Speaker 1: meant to use as a contraction. It is. Look, I'm
- 38:49Speaker 1: not gonna do this whole thing, but like suffice to say,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I feel like I'm pretty fucking good at language arts
- 38:57Speaker 1: as it was called when I went to high school,
- 38:59Speaker 1: and I still run into shit that I'm like, this
- 39:02Speaker 1: makes no fucking sense. Why is it like this? So yeah,
- 39:06Speaker 1: I apologize to everybody else who has been forced to
- 39:09Speaker 1: learn English because we are colonizers. It's just, uh, everybody
- 39:14Speaker 1: else's bad luck that our language is the one that
- 39:17Speaker 1: got picked. Because I am sure that while other languages
- 39:20Speaker 1: have their idiosyncrasies, I can't imagine that anything is quite
- 39:26Speaker 1: as much of a mess as English is. I feel
- 39:29Speaker 1: like that colonizing aspect of English is part of what
- 39:33Speaker 1: makes it so terrible and incomprehensible after a point anyway, Okay, So,
- 39:41Speaker 1: like I said, they ask like where they had put
- 39:44Speaker 1: this girl, but all of the uh, the water coming
- 39:48Speaker 1: down actually interrupts the conversation, so they don't find out
- 39:52Speaker 1: any further what it is that they're after. And they're
- 39:55Speaker 1: up on a tree branch watching the water course underneath
- 39:59Speaker 1: them on what had really recently been a road, and
- 40:02Speaker 1: it looks like a river now. And at this point,
- 40:08Speaker 1: sheep's head is coming up behind them with the sword
- 40:12Speaker 1: and he's like riding on the back of this alligator guy.
- 40:16Speaker 1: So I guess this is probably a pretty convenient animal
- 40:19Speaker 1: when you are in a place where it gets flooded
- 40:22Speaker 1: so quickly. So like alligators in or is it a crocodile,
- 40:28Speaker 1: I'm not really sure, but either way, they can run
- 40:32Speaker 1: pretty fast like on land, and then in water they
- 40:39Speaker 1: travel very efficiently. So yeah, I feel like that's kind
- 40:42Speaker 1: of the best of both worlds, you guys. A few
- 40:45Speaker 1: days ago, I saw this incredible video that was a
- 40:52Speaker 1: It was a road that had been flooded a little bit.
- 40:55Speaker 1: It wasn't like a huge you know, but the road
- 40:58Speaker 1: dipped down and there was standing water deep enough that
- 41:02Speaker 1: it would make you sort of wonder like should I
- 41:05Speaker 1: really drive my car through this? Apologies for my dog?
- 41:09Speaker 1: And this person decided they had a like a can,
- 41:16Speaker 1: like an empty soda can or something in their car,
- 41:20Speaker 1: and they decided to toss it out the window. Now
- 41:23Speaker 1: I thought they were tossing it to see if it
- 41:28Speaker 1: would sink, which didn't really make sense because it's a
- 41:30Speaker 1: can and it's gonna float. But I thought they were
- 41:33Speaker 1: trying to see how deep is that that water and
- 41:36Speaker 1: should I drive through it? When that can hits the
- 41:40Speaker 1: surface of the water, there is a sudden thrash of
- 41:47Speaker 1: an alligator lunging for that can, And that is what
- 41:52Speaker 1: this person was testing for. They weren't trying to see
- 41:55Speaker 1: if the water was very deep. They were aware that
- 41:59Speaker 1: maybe you don't want to drive through the fucking alligators
- 42:03Speaker 1: and crocodiles that are under the water. It was the
- 42:07Speaker 1: water was so still and it did not look like
- 42:09Speaker 1: it was ever going to be deep enough for this
- 42:11Speaker 1: creature to be under there. So when I tell you
- 42:14Speaker 1: that I was watching this on my phone, and I
- 42:17Speaker 1: jumped as this tail comes flailing out. Oh my god,
- 42:20Speaker 1: it's scared the shit enemy. So anyway, all I have
- 42:24Speaker 1: to say those animals are very frightening, and this guy
- 42:27Speaker 1: riding on one probably is a very smart idea. So yeah,
- 42:32Speaker 1: he tries to attack them from behind, and he says
- 42:36Speaker 1: something about how like kill first, ask questions later something
- 42:39Speaker 1: like this, and his arms become like horns. It's it's
- 42:46Speaker 1: weird considering that he is called sheep's head that his
- 42:49Speaker 1: arms become these rams horns. I don't get it. But
- 42:57Speaker 1: Brooke manages to block the attack, but it's like this
- 43:03Speaker 1: weird sparkly sort of I don't know what to call it.
- 43:08Speaker 1: It's like, I guess it is itself, that horn, but
- 43:14Speaker 1: it's turned into maybe it's electricity it's supposed to be,
- 43:18Speaker 1: or sparkling energy. I don't know. But anyway, Brooke is
- 43:24Speaker 1: like barely able to hold this guy off, and Sanjy
- 43:28Speaker 1: swoops in and kicks the guy off the tree branch
- 43:31Speaker 1: into the water, and of course has a moment where
- 43:35Speaker 1: he aggles Nami and then he oggles. The lady who's
- 43:39Speaker 1: in her bikini calls him a creep. I thought that
- 43:43Speaker 1: was great. And some other pirates come up and are like, hey,
- 43:47Speaker 1: miss gin Rummy, what's going on? And she says she
- 43:49Speaker 1: said's been defeated and we haven't found the samurai. So
- 43:54Speaker 1: since he hasn't shown himself even though we have attacked
- 43:57Speaker 1: them like this, he must not be here. And I'm
- 44:00Speaker 1: assuming that this is about Zoro, but wait, Zora's not
- 44:05Speaker 1: really considered a samurai is here. They're not looking for
- 44:09Speaker 1: Momo because he was too young to really be considered one.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Are they looking for his dad maybe? Or I can't
- 44:17Speaker 1: remember the name of the other guy who can draw things,
- 44:22Speaker 1: but anyway, so yeah, this whole moment is just a
- 44:25Speaker 1: really odd like there's a little girl that they had
- 44:29Speaker 1: seen earlier, apparently, and so at this point Nami says
- 44:33Speaker 1: something like, I hope she's okay, And we get a
- 44:37Speaker 1: really brief look at a little girl with like purplish hair,
- 44:43Speaker 1: a nose that looks almost like a cat's nose or
- 44:46Speaker 1: like a rodent nose, and she's got long nails like claws.
- 44:52Speaker 1: She peeks out at them from behind a tree and
- 44:57Speaker 1: looks really like worried about them finding her, and sort
- 45:02Speaker 1: of sneaks away, and that is all we get about
- 45:07Speaker 1: what was really going on here. Unclear to me what
- 45:11Speaker 1: the other pirates wanted this girl for. If it's like
- 45:15Speaker 1: she was part of things with them, or if they
- 45:17Speaker 1: were targeting her somehow, I don't know. And then the
- 45:22Speaker 1: end of this episode is when this dude falls from
- 45:26Speaker 1: the sky and we find out that he was up
- 45:31Speaker 1: on one of the sky islands because he is trying
- 45:36Speaker 1: to commit suicide. Kaido is evidently unkillable, and we get
- 45:44Speaker 1: a little story from the narrator about how he was
- 45:48Speaker 1: set for execution and the spear that was supposed to
- 45:51Speaker 1: be thrust through him can't, like it breaks the sword
- 45:56Speaker 1: that was supposed to decapitate him, or like the blade
- 45:58Speaker 1: from the guillotiness. There's just been a bunch of attempts
- 46:03Speaker 1: to kill this dude and none of them has worked.
- 46:05Speaker 1: And even when he tries to kill himself, it doesn't happen.
- 46:11Speaker 1: And I don't even know. Oh God, you guys, I'm sorry.
- 46:16Speaker 1: There's a bunch of stuff in the chat here. Bernadette
- 46:22Speaker 1: is talking about how English isn't even its own language.
- 46:25Speaker 1: It's three clowns in a trench coat pretending to be
- 46:27Speaker 1: one French Latin and some Germanic tomfoolery Seraphim says, also
- 46:32Speaker 1: for sheep's head, that is the name of a card
- 46:34Speaker 1: game like jin rumming. Oh, I didn't know that. I
- 46:39Speaker 1: never heard of that card game. The naming quirk for
- 46:42Speaker 1: these guys is based on card games. How weird. Schafskoff
- 46:49Speaker 1: is a German name. How the fuck didn't I put
- 46:51Speaker 1: that together? Says Bernadette. Kaido two syllables is seraphem. Okay I,
- 47:02Speaker 1: this dude's like whole deal with being basically unkillable. He
- 47:06Speaker 1: is one of the four Emperors, as we find out later,
- 47:11Speaker 1: And honestly, if you're unkillable, I feel like that's the
- 47:14Speaker 1: least you can do is be one of the four emperors.
- 47:17Speaker 1: That's got to be right up there. You know. I
- 47:20Speaker 1: don't know if the unkillable thing is due to a
- 47:23Speaker 1: like devil fruit, but the way the narrator talks about him,
- 47:28Speaker 1: a devil fruit isn't ever mentioned. It just sort of
- 47:32Speaker 1: feels like Kayto is Kyto Kaido, sorry, guys, like he
- 47:39Speaker 1: was just born a freak that can't be killed and uh,
- 47:43Speaker 1: maybe that's not true. But and he keeps also being
- 47:46Speaker 1: called for he keeps being called King of the Beasts,
- 47:51Speaker 1: And I'm not sure if this is supposed to be
- 47:54Speaker 1: that he has like an affinity with any animals, because
- 48:01Speaker 1: like there's a whole thing in Cradle with King of
- 48:04Speaker 1: the Beasts and it has he This is a guy
- 48:10Speaker 1: who is I don't know if he has power over
- 48:13Speaker 1: animals exactly, but he at least has a couple of
- 48:16Speaker 1: animals that like sort of work for him, so to speak. Oh,
- 48:21Speaker 1: Seraphim is saying, the important little detail for that scene
- 48:24Speaker 1: is the emblem on the attacker's belt being a hint
- 48:26Speaker 1: who they are working for. And the emblem is kind
- 48:31Speaker 1: of confusing. Instead of it just being two crossbones, it's three,
- 48:39Speaker 1: so it's a sort of star shape. And then there's
- 48:42Speaker 1: a kind of like under like almost two lines that
- 48:48Speaker 1: are made to look like an H, but they sort
- 48:50Speaker 1: of flare out and I'm not sure it's meant to
- 48:52Speaker 1: be an H. And then over that is a skull
- 48:56Speaker 1: with curly horns and lower eyebrows and a very very
- 49:02Speaker 1: big jaw. If I'm meant to know who this is,
- 49:07Speaker 1: I don't, so forgive me, guys if I'm missing something.
- 49:10Speaker 1: But y'all know very well that there's too many things
- 49:13Speaker 1: to keep track of here. So Seraphim says, King of
- 49:19Speaker 1: the Beasts is his pirate epitaph like straw hat loofy,
- 49:23Speaker 1: and the exact translation is odd. Okay, so it's not
- 49:26Speaker 1: like an animal power. That's fine. So yeah, this dude,
- 49:33Speaker 1: like we had seen him in the last episode standing
- 49:36Speaker 1: on the edge of the the Cloud island, and I
- 49:41Speaker 1: thought that he was here to like fuck up that
- 49:43Speaker 1: guy's day, But apparently it's just a coincidence that he's
- 49:47Speaker 1: on that particular island. He had no interest in getting
- 49:50Speaker 1: any smoke with that dude. He just jumps off the island.
- 49:55Speaker 1: He lands below on the island where Captain and company
- 50:01Speaker 1: are all hold up with their men, and he makes
- 50:04Speaker 1: this massive fucking crater in the ground and survives and
- 50:10Speaker 1: says why is it so hard to die? Which it's
- 50:16Speaker 1: interesting to me that he wants so badly to die.
- 50:22Speaker 1: I'm really curious, like, is it just knowing that it
- 50:25Speaker 1: can't be done, or is There's a plot point in
- 50:32Speaker 1: a TV show I watched a little while back where
- 50:34Speaker 1: a character the curse that he is under means that
- 50:38Speaker 1: he can never die, and he has been alive for
- 50:41Speaker 1: literally like thousands and thousands of years, and is fucking
- 50:44Speaker 1: sick of it and has tried to kill himself every
- 50:48Speaker 1: day practically since he was like a thousand, and he
- 50:53Speaker 1: has never managed to do it. And I'm wondering, is
- 50:56Speaker 1: it like that kind of thing where this guy's been
- 50:57Speaker 1: around so long that he's just fucking of it, because
- 51:00Speaker 1: it sounds like later on when he's talking about the uh,
- 51:05Speaker 1: the fight with he says something about like, where's do
- 51:09Speaker 1: Flamingo because I'm bored? Something like that, So I think
- 51:14Speaker 1: it might be that type of thing where this dude
- 51:16Speaker 1: has just been around for so goddamn long that he's
- 51:22Speaker 1: over it, you know, and just wants to find something
- 51:26Speaker 1: to do. And he says, it's time for the final battle.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Get ready. If this dreary world is destroyed, so be it.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Let's start history's greatest war. Are you with me? And
- 51:44Speaker 1: I wanted to be like, bro, who are you? Are
- 51:48Speaker 1: you with me? You just landed on these guys, you
- 51:52Speaker 1: capsize one of their ships. They do not know you,
- 51:56Speaker 1: And what are you? Your is because you're fucking bored?
- 52:03Speaker 1: Really that's your motivating Like that's not really a fucking
- 52:07Speaker 1: rousing speech, and it really honestly like coming from a
- 52:12Speaker 1: guy who literally can't die. I'm not gonna want to
- 52:15Speaker 1: follow you into anything. What kind of perspective are you
- 52:19Speaker 1: going to have? You know, like it just it's a
- 52:23Speaker 1: wild moment that he just seems to really expect everybody
- 52:26Speaker 1: to be like, yeah, I'm going I don't see it,
- 52:30Speaker 1: but sure. So the last bit in the second episode,
- 52:37Speaker 1: I already talked about Rebecca and her dad and everything,
- 52:40Speaker 1: but we also have this scene where Tsuru shows up
- 52:45Speaker 1: the older lady who works for the Marines, and she
- 52:50Speaker 1: has some other ladies with her and I do not
- 52:52Speaker 1: know if we know their names, but she wants to
- 52:57Speaker 1: see uh isso and she's here to ask the relevant question,
- 53:09Speaker 1: which is, why the fuck if you know where the
- 53:12Speaker 1: straw hats are? Have you not nailed loofy to the wall?
- 53:19Speaker 1: Oh and Sengoku is here as well, so he is
- 53:24Speaker 1: like it's very fun because he you know, he had
- 53:27Speaker 1: been all uptight but now he is retired and is
- 53:34Speaker 1: in his like I don't want to say Hawaiian shirt exactly,
- 53:38Speaker 1: but it's definitely kind of giving that vibe like this
- 53:41Speaker 1: is a dude who is very much feeling like he
- 53:44Speaker 1: is on vacation and none of this is really his
- 53:47Speaker 1: responsibility anymore, and he is just here to watch everything
- 53:52Speaker 1: go down as entertainment while not really being particularly invested himself.
- 53:59Speaker 1: And we find out Fuji Tora is not refraining from
- 54:08Speaker 1: taking down the straw Hats and Loofy in particular due
- 54:11Speaker 1: to feeling like they are the heroes who saved dress Rosa.
- 54:16Speaker 1: He is taking a die and rolling for whether or
- 54:22Speaker 1: not he should pursue them, and it's been two days
- 54:27Speaker 1: and that is how he has been deciding. I am
- 54:33Speaker 1: so disgusted, y'all. I'm so disgusted, and I'm really really
- 54:38Speaker 1: hoping that there is some other level to this, but
- 54:43Speaker 1: I'm thinking that maybe there's not. But your boy needs
- 54:49Speaker 1: to fucking quit the Marines. There is no reason to
- 54:57Speaker 1: even go after them, dude. I am so disappointed in
- 55:01Speaker 1: you as far as I am concerned. And the fact
- 55:04Speaker 1: that he is even considering going after them like up
- 55:10Speaker 1: ends a lot of the goodwill that he bought from
- 55:14Speaker 1: me by apologizing publicly. And I know that that doesn't
- 55:18Speaker 1: really make sense, because that public apology is still like
- 55:21Speaker 1: a big deal that has ramifications, but it just feels
- 55:28Speaker 1: like such a betrayal of what he was claiming at
- 55:31Speaker 1: that moment that I just yeah, I was very very
- 55:38Speaker 1: annoyed by this. So he basically is like, well, let's
- 55:43Speaker 1: see if they can get away again, because I have
- 55:46Speaker 1: rolled two days in a row and Fate has said
- 55:49Speaker 1: to leave them alone. But if I rolled today, we'll
- 55:55Speaker 1: have to see if Providence is what he keeps calling
- 55:58Speaker 1: it is, I'm going to protect him for a third
- 56:03Speaker 1: day and make him a really, really lucky guy. It's
- 56:07Speaker 1: interesting to me how many different words we have for
- 56:10Speaker 1: Providence is like what a lot of Christian people call fate,
- 56:17Speaker 1: because I think fate is uncomfortably like close to being blasphemous,
- 56:23Speaker 1: because it's almost acting like there is some other force
- 56:27Speaker 1: aside from gods, and Providence is meant to be like
- 56:33Speaker 1: related to gods somehow, but not quite like it's a
- 56:37Speaker 1: weird I don't know anyway. So, yeah, he rolls the dice.
- 56:44Speaker 1: I was sort of wondering, like, maybe he'll roll the dice.
- 56:47Speaker 1: It'll say to go after them, and he's gonna be
- 56:49Speaker 1: still like, nah, you know what, I'm not doing it.
- 56:53Speaker 1: But yeah, he decides that he's gonna roll it and
- 56:56Speaker 1: it says to go at them, and so he decides
- 56:58Speaker 1: to go at them. And I was just like, truly,
- 57:03Speaker 1: I'm just so disappointed. Let's see, I'm trying to make
- 57:10Speaker 1: sure because the whole thing with Rebecca it's like interspersed
- 57:13Speaker 1: with everything, and I want to make sure that there's
- 57:16Speaker 1: there's a moment where what is the name of Yat
- 57:21Speaker 1: is the name of the announcer guy. He is basically
- 57:25Speaker 1: like giving a pep talk to everybody in dress Rosa
- 57:28Speaker 1: about rebuilding and getting our shit back together again, and
- 57:32Speaker 1: they are going for it. And so we see a
- 57:35Speaker 1: sort of montage of everybody like sweeping up and picking
- 57:39Speaker 1: debris up and rebuilding and you know, the people who
- 57:45Speaker 1: have injuries. We eventually have the Princess of the Tantata.
- 57:52Speaker 1: She is giving away her little like tear pearls. I
- 57:58Speaker 1: don't know what to call these, but they're like little
- 58:00Speaker 1: balls of light. And I know it's it's her tears
- 58:04Speaker 1: that manages to do this, But somehow these balls of
- 58:06Speaker 1: light they do not look like that, and they're tangible,
- 58:09Speaker 1: like they can be picked up and handed around. So
- 58:12Speaker 1: this one dad who's with his son and he's got
- 58:14Speaker 1: a head injury, and he manages to just put it
- 58:19Speaker 1: on his head and it completely heals the whole thing
- 58:22Speaker 1: and we find out later, Oh that's right, I forgot.
- 58:26Speaker 1: I'm sorry, guys, that this is life force that she
- 58:28Speaker 1: pulls out of people. This is this is the thing
- 58:30Speaker 1: that I was sort of like, wait what because I
- 58:32Speaker 1: didn't like know that this was a thing, and I
- 58:35Speaker 1: don't think we were meant to but like, the people
- 58:41Speaker 1: who are healthy are essentially it's like giving blood kind
- 58:44Speaker 1: of thing where she can pull some life force out
- 58:48Speaker 1: of them. And it looks like a dandelion, but the
- 58:52Speaker 1: fluff is glowing and it floats away, and then one
- 58:56Speaker 1: of that tantata has a net and he catches it
- 58:58Speaker 1: and they collect it and they put it a pile.
- 59:01Speaker 1: I totally forgot about this. I do really like this development.
- 59:04Speaker 1: It's such a weird way for this power to manifest.
- 59:08Speaker 1: I will say that I am just so uncomfortable with
- 59:15Speaker 1: how heart eyes all of the soldiers are getting with
- 59:20Speaker 1: this tiny little creature that reminds me of a five
- 59:23Speaker 1: year old girl. It's distressing. It's it's you, guys. When
- 59:30Speaker 1: I watch this show and this sort of thing comes up,
- 59:34Speaker 1: it suddenly becomes very very clear to me why as
- 59:39Speaker 1: a young girl and teen I was so obsessed with
- 59:45Speaker 1: being beautiful and male approval because it is like the
- 59:50Speaker 1: only power that is allowed in fiction. So much of
- 59:56Speaker 1: the time for women, it's like the only that counts
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: at all is if you are hot. That's it, That's
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: all you need. And every time I sort of start
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: to be like, I really was focused on the wrong
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: things and why was I like that, and I'd start
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: to blame myself. I have moments like this where I'm
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: watching a thing and I realize, like everything I watched
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: and consumed and read, the only women who managed to
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: get any respect or get anything done they were hot.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: It was almost always the case. And I have to
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: be a little bit more compassionate with myself because I
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: was working within a very very narrow framework at the time,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: and I just didn't even realize it, you know. So
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Seraphim says, the reaction to Mansherry is purely based on cuteness.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: I even if that's true, it just doesn't come across
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: in the way that they are reacting. The heart eyes
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: is not accompanied by like any of them saying, oh
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: she's so cute in like a kuchikuci ku kind of way,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: And so it just really feels like, you know, especially
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: at one point they're competing over who can give the
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: most life force, and she is distinctly h that's fine, guys,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: I think you're maybe taking it a little too far.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: And there's a vibe to her being uncomfortable. That feels
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: like the discomfort that happens when dudes are falling all
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: over themselves. Like it. It feels like that kind of energy.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: So that may not be what was meant to be
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: conveyed here, but it one thousand percent is how it feels,
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: and it's just awful. And I hated every second of it.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: So anyway, I do really really like her power though,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: and I think that this is like a really neat
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: idea that she is able to pull from others to
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: give to the sick and injured. But it's just a
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: wild like the what's the word I want hear? The
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: imagery of it of being like a vine, a stem
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: I guess you would call it that grows up out
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: of their arm. It's a wild looking, you know, like
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: it's crazy. So anyway, I'm going to the part where
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Lufy is stuffing his face. He has woken up and
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: he is trying to eat and be angry and be
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: tired and is just cycling through a lot of emotions
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: at once, and both Oosap and Zorro are like, br
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: you have got to pick one. You can't go on
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: like this with your mood swings. Probably you should just
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: fucking lay down and get some rest. And he can't
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: stop eating. He's like, no, I'm definitely going to be
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: consuming as much meat as I possibly can. Oh, And
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: I wanted to point out that I hadn't noticed before,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: but Bellamy is here in the cottage as well, all
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: bandaged up, and I was very much like what I
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: forgot all about that guy. I didn't really stop and consider,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: like what happened to him beyond the fact that he
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: got knocked out, And it has made me go, what's
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: exactly happened to do Flamingo either, Like do the Marines
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: have him in custody? Because I don't recall. I feel
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: like we saw them gather around him at one point,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: but I'm not really remembering the details of what happened there.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: But yeah, Bellamy like still being alive and being it
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: seems basically cared for by them. I'm like, does he
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: deserve this? I don't know, man, He's just been such
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: a pain in the ass. I don't know if I
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: see it for him anymore. We'll see he seems like
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: he's asleep in the scene, so like when he wakes up,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: we'll see what his attitude is like. But he's gonna
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: really have to win me over. And yeah, that's like
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: pretty much everything in these two episodes until it ends
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: with I loved this because Florian and I had been
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: talking about what Bartolomea would do if he got to
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: meet all the straw hats, and then this episode he
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: walks into the cottage that has so many of them,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: and he flat out says, I don't know what I
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: would do if I got to see all the straw
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: hats together at once. I think I might just piss
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: myself and die. And the fucking cackle that I let out,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: I lost my mind. It was such a like it
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: was just so perfectly in tune with the conversation that
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: Florian and I had had. It was such a wild line,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: like the show can be a little bit coarse with
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: its language here and there, but it's sort of unpredictable,
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: and piss myself and die is it's just like just enough.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: It's very very good, and the fact that it's Bartolomeo
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: acknowledging this himself. It's not somebody from the outside commenting like,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: oh this guy, am I right? It's like bartso Lemeo
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: fully embracing his unhinged fanboy nous. I love him so much.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: I just he is just the best thing. It's the best.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: So this is when I think it's Leo that comes
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: running in and he alerts all of them to the
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: fact that the Navy is coming to attack you, and
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: we jump over to Fujita, who has rolled a six,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: and he's like, well, Providence says, all marines advance, straw
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: hats and law capture them and arrest every criminal within
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: the palace. Let's bring them all down. And I hate it.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: I hate all of it. I fucking love that these
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: dudes mobilize and they are going like hard sprinting, and
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: we just have some Goku fucking eating popcorn, like literally
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: sitting to the side with no expression watching this. I'll
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: go down just eating popcorn, unbothered, moisturized, like it just
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: is very very funny to me. Send Goku. I never
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: really liked him in the past, but if this is
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: the energy that he's gonna have from now on, is
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: just the guy who's like here to watch the drama.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: I'm very very into it and here for it. So
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: that is how the episode ends, is the attack beginning
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: and everybody you know, preparing for it and deciding how
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: are we going to react? And that is the end.
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: So but thank you guys so much for hanging out
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: with me. Really great to have y'all in the chat.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: Appreciate it a lot. Thank you Florian for commissioning this one.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: I'm really liking this arc guys. Still, you know, now
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: that that Wight with Dom goes over, like, this arc
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: has mostly got it back together again and I'm still
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: very here for all of it. So enjoying myself a lot.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: All right, guys, I will see you soon. Until next
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: time to lou motherfuckers. That was an Unspoiled Network podcast
