- 0:13Speaker 1: FT live post game show. The Chicago White Sox win
- 0:17Speaker 1: a postseason game for the first time in almost a
- 0:19Speaker 1: half decade and two better than to speak with AJ
- 0:23Speaker 1: Pruszynski about this. Six three is your final score. AJ,
- 0:27Speaker 1: let's recap it all right now as the White Sox
- 0:30Speaker 1: are a win away from advancing here in the wild
- 0:32Speaker 1: card round. What did you think?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Great plan by the White Sox with their pitching. Kagan Smith,
- 0:39Speaker 2: the start, excuse me, was great. And the way they
- 0:43Speaker 2: pieced it together, they went Grant Taylor seven outs at
- 0:46Speaker 2: the end. Pretty awesome. Limited number of pitches. We'll see
- 0:50Speaker 2: how he bounces back. But, you know, they got the
- 0:53Speaker 2: home run by Colson Montgomery. They had some walks in
- 0:57Speaker 2: the first inning where Blue Bob couldn't do it over
- 0:59Speaker 2: the plate. And that cost the Astros the error by
- 1:01Speaker 2: Christian Walker, obviously.
- 1:03Speaker 3: A really good game for the White Sox. I mean,
- 1:05Speaker 3: one through nine they hit.
- 1:07Speaker 2: They got some big hits and just a good team
- 1:11Speaker 2: win for a team that was supposed to be very unexperienced.
- 1:14Speaker 2: They looked like the team that was the veteran team,
- 1:17Speaker 2: and the Astros looked like the team that was inexperienced.
- 1:20Speaker 1: With the approach, too, right? I mean, they had 11
- 1:22Speaker 1: knocks in this game, 10 of them coming against left-handed pitching, too.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I mean, they had it going on. And also, Bluebaugh,
- 1:28Speaker 1: you know, for the White Sox lineup, I mean, you
- 1:31Speaker 1: got a lot of left-handed hitters in there, right? Especially
- 1:35Speaker 1: towards the top of the lineup. I don't know if
- 1:38Speaker 1: Bluebaugh was the right guy. I know he had been
- 1:39Speaker 1: really good for them, but it's almost like Hagan Smith
- 1:42Speaker 1: set the tone. Bluebaugh also set the tone for a
- 1:45Speaker 1: really ugly looking bullpen game early on for them.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Well, too many walks. I mean, you can't walk the
- 1:51Speaker 2: leadoff guy, right? And then they scored a run in
- 1:54Speaker 2: the first inning without getting a hit. You can't have
- 1:56Speaker 2: that happen in a playoff game. It just can't happen.
- 1:58Speaker 2: That's how you set the negative tone and give the,
- 2:01Speaker 2: give the White Sox credit. I mean, Antonacci had an
- 2:03Speaker 2: unbelievable bat to get us started and, know then they
- 2:06Speaker 2: get the ball to Christian Walker who's a gold glover
- 2:09Speaker 2: he steps on the base good base running by Antonacci
- 2:11Speaker 2: gets in the lane of the throw causes the error
- 2:14Speaker 2: goes to third and then the sacks lie I mean
- 2:17Speaker 2: that's just good baseball there's no other way to put
- 2:20Speaker 2: it it was just good baseball in the first inning
- 2:23Speaker 2: uh Higgins Smith pitched really well Sandlin came in and
- 2:25Speaker 2: did a nice job uh Grant Taylor obviously seven outs
- 2:28Speaker 2: five punchies pretty good.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Uh It was a good win.
- 2:32Speaker 2: They had big at-bats. They drove in guys from third
- 2:34Speaker 2: with less than two outs. They just did everything they
- 2:37Speaker 2: needed to do, really. They just were the better team tonight.
- 2:41Speaker 2: There's no other way to put it. The White Sox
- 2:42Speaker 2: were a better team than the Astros tonight.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Grant Taylor was doing things that he wasn't doing during
- 2:51Speaker 1: the regular season. That's what the postseason is about here.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Two and a third innings, 54 pitches from him. He
- 2:58Speaker 1: had a 36 pitch and then People were wondering if
- 3:02Speaker 1: he was going to come out again. But, I mean,
- 3:04Speaker 1: you watch this team as much as anyone on the planet.
- 3:07Speaker 1: What was going to be the option if it wasn't him?
- 3:11Speaker 3: There wasn't an option.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:13Speaker 2: There was no option. The option was, Grant Taylor, give
- 3:16Speaker 2: me seven outs, and that's it. And we're going to
- 3:18Speaker 2: try and win game one and worry about game two
- 3:21Speaker 2: and game three. The question is, when can he come
- 3:23Speaker 2: back now, right? They're really going to win this tomorrow
- 3:26Speaker 2: because they're not going to want to have to. figure
- 3:28Speaker 2: out what to do.
- 3:29Speaker 3: In game three.
- 3:30Speaker 2: But, you know, everyone else, I mean, him and Hagan
- 3:33Speaker 2: Smith are probably unavailable tomorrow, but you're going to probably,
- 3:37Speaker 2: you're going to start Sean Burke. I think you're going
- 3:39Speaker 2: to need him to go five or six innings for you.
- 3:41Speaker 2: And then you're going to need some other people to
- 3:42Speaker 2: step up, whether that's, you know, I don't think Sandlin
- 3:46Speaker 2: will be available tomorrow, but whether that's, you know, Hudson
- 3:50Speaker 2: down there and, you know, whoever it is in the bullpen,
- 3:53Speaker 2: they're going to need some different guys to step up.
- 3:55Speaker 2: And the biggest thing for the White Sox is, They
- 3:57Speaker 2: need to score some runs. They need to score runs early,
- 3:59Speaker 2: put pressure on the Astros like they did today. Because
- 4:01Speaker 2: once they got ahead, it just never felt like the
- 4:03Speaker 2: Astros could get back in it.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and for the Astros, I mean, this is a
- 4:07Speaker 1: team that has really struggled on the starting pitching front
- 4:10Speaker 1: this year. Bullpen has been a little bit better. in
- 4:15Speaker 1: terms of rankings among the league, but not great. This
- 4:18Speaker 1: is just not ideal. And for Houston, I mean, you
- 4:21Speaker 1: heard a decent amount of booing, especially early on. They're
- 4:24Speaker 1: not used to a game like this, right? They barely
- 4:27Speaker 1: win the division. They do win it, but Hunter Brown
- 4:30Speaker 1: is their ace. He was not ready to go yet
- 4:32Speaker 1: because of having to pitch on Friday. So he'll pitch
- 4:35Speaker 1: in game two to try and save their season, but
- 4:38Speaker 1: they're watching that game early on. And I mean, Houston
- 4:40Speaker 1: in general is a jaded fan base right now with
- 4:43Speaker 1: how good the team's been for the past decade. And,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I mean, it's true, right? They've had so much winning
- 4:47Speaker 1: there for about 10 years. When you see a product
- 4:51Speaker 1: like this on the field, it's not what they're used
- 4:53Speaker 1: to seeing. And it's a product that really needs to
- 4:55Speaker 1: put a ton of runs on the board. That's what
- 4:57Speaker 1: we saw today. I mean, you needed seven runs to
- 4:59Speaker 1: beat the White Sox today, and they didn't have it.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Well, I think the booing– I think the booing was
- 5:03Speaker 2: more frustration from the Astros fans, again, because of the walks,
- 5:06Speaker 2: because of the mistakes on defense. And once you start
- 5:09Speaker 2: falling behind at home, that's why it's almost. And when
- 5:12Speaker 2: we had Chuck Garfine on the other day, he said, Hey, well,
- 5:14Speaker 2: Venable relishes being on the road. It's almost better to
- 5:17Speaker 2: be on the road. Cause you get that first shot, right?
- 5:19Speaker 2: Get the first shot to score. And if you score early,
- 5:21Speaker 2: then especially in an elimination game, like tomorrow, man, I
- 5:24Speaker 2: put so much pressure on the home team.
- 5:26Speaker 3: And then the crowds like, Oh no, this is going
- 5:27Speaker 3: to be the end of the year. Oh no, we're
- 5:29Speaker 3: not scoring. We're not scoring. What's wrong with this team?
- 5:30Speaker 3: Why can't we score?
- 5:32Speaker 2: Instead of them thinking like, okay, we're going to get
- 5:34Speaker 2: behind them. We're going to back this team. Um, Pressure
- 5:38Speaker 2: really piles on it. If the White Sox can jump
- 5:41Speaker 2: on them tomorrow early, this series could be over two games.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Crazy to think about it, right? I mean, in fairness,
- 5:50Speaker 1: this portion of the bracket is looked at a little
- 5:53Speaker 1: bit differently than what the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays
- 5:56Speaker 1: are dealing with in the upper portion of the left
- 5:58Speaker 1: side of the bracket here with all the postseason teams.
- 6:01Speaker 1: But Houston was... really kind of fumbling down the stretch.
- 6:06Speaker 1: They allowed the Rangers to get back into the American
- 6:08Speaker 1: league West. So they weren't heading into this post-season with
- 6:12Speaker 1: a head full of steam here either. So, um, definitely not,
- 6:15Speaker 1: you know, not a team thriving. If you're the white socks,
- 6:18Speaker 1: you're like, Hey, this is a team in the post-season experience.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Um, but it's not a team that put together a
- 6:25Speaker 1: strong season.
- 6:26Speaker 4: 500.
- 6:27Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, not at all.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And that's why I, That's why I picked the White
- 6:31Speaker 2: Sox to win the series before we went into it,
- 6:33Speaker 2: because I thought the White Sox, even though they lost
- 6:35Speaker 2: the season series, were a better team. And they showed
- 6:37Speaker 2: that to me tonight. They showed that they were a
- 6:41Speaker 2: better team in the first game.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Now it's only one game.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I know they have to win one more, but they
- 6:46Speaker 2: look like a more complete team. They look better defensively.
- 6:48Speaker 2: They look better offensively in their approach and their pitching
- 6:50Speaker 2: look better. And so it was, it's amazing that the
- 6:55Speaker 2: White Sox, listen, the White Sox have come a long ways.
- 6:58Speaker 2: I'm not saying the White Sox are ready to win
- 7:00Speaker 2: the world series, But I thought they looked mature. They
- 7:05Speaker 2: weren't intimidated, that's for sure. Now, the Astros fans never
- 7:09Speaker 2: really were given a chance to get into the game.
- 7:11Speaker 2: But from the leadoff hitter to the last hitter, it
- 7:15Speaker 2: seemed like the White Sox were always going to win
- 7:16Speaker 2: this game.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and this is what fans were waiting for. I mean,
- 7:20Speaker 1: Colson Montgomery was a highly hyped prospect. He went deep,
- 7:25Speaker 1: 432 feet with his bomb dad, some offense. Murakami was
- 7:28Speaker 1: a great signing for this team, and he was able
- 7:30Speaker 1: to reach for that. Maybe it was a change-up. Yeah,
- 7:34Speaker 1: a down-and-away change-up that he was able to get a
- 7:36Speaker 1: little piece of and turn that into something. sacrifice fly
- 7:40Speaker 1: to get them on the board first you've watched Sam
- 7:42Speaker 1: Antonacci really develop himself as a brand of baseball that
- 7:46Speaker 1: the White Sox like to look at right even when
- 7:48Speaker 1: he had his hit by pitch later on in the
- 7:50Speaker 1: game he kind of looks to the dugout and they're
- 7:51Speaker 1: so used to seeing like him walks not easy to
- 7:55Speaker 1: strike out right the the brand that he plays is
- 7:58Speaker 1: so different than the brand that you were watching when
- 8:01Speaker 1: the team was racking up 100 plus loss seasons so
- 8:04Speaker 1: you add all of that up I mean the young
- 8:06Speaker 1: guys even Kyle Teal too coming over in a big
- 8:08Speaker 1: trade right And the White Sox needed catching help. He
- 8:11Speaker 1: was really good behind the plate to work with all
- 8:13Speaker 1: these guys, many who didn't have postseason experience, AJ, and
- 8:17Speaker 1: had some nice challenges that he was able to win over.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Well, three of the nine starters in the White Sox
- 8:23Speaker 2: lineup were from the career crochet trade, Brad Montgomery, Kyle Teal,
- 8:27Speaker 2: and Chase Mydra. So that's a win of a trade.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I mean, his greatest career crochet was a couple of
- 8:32Speaker 2: years ago. He's hurt all year, but that's a win.
- 8:34Speaker 2: You have three starting players on your team. that are
- 8:37Speaker 2: going to be here for a long time that are
- 8:39Speaker 2: playing in a playoff game. That's a pretty good trade
- 8:43Speaker 2: for both sides. And, you know, the thing about, again,
- 8:47Speaker 2: it was a complete win. It was, it was plate discipline.
- 8:49Speaker 2: It was defense. It was getting the guy in from
- 8:52Speaker 2: third when you needed it. It was, you know, Sam
- 8:55Speaker 2: Antonacci taking the lead off walk. And then he faces
- 8:57Speaker 2: a lefty with a runner on third, less than two outs,
- 8:59Speaker 2: gets two strikes. let's the ball get deep singles to left.
- 9:03Speaker 2: It was just, it was just a calm game. That
- 9:05Speaker 2: was really well played by the way. I mean, I
- 9:07Speaker 2: keep saying the same thing, but there's not really much
- 9:10Speaker 2: you can dig into.
- 9:10Speaker 3: It was well played. It was well pitched and the
- 9:13Speaker 3: White Sox were a better team for one game. Right.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Flat out better team. And there was a little bit
- 9:18Speaker 1: of a threat. Nelson Velasquez hit a big pinch hit
- 9:20Speaker 1: home run to kind of get them back into it
- 9:22Speaker 1: and also get the crowd back into the game. And Taylor,
- 9:24Speaker 1: you know, had to work his way through a challenging
- 9:27Speaker 1: eighth inning, but Overall, I mean, this is about as
- 9:30Speaker 1: good as it gets if you're a White Sox fan
- 9:32Speaker 1: with a 6-3 win. So let's do this. Fox One
- 9:35Speaker 1: will help us pick a player of the game. AJ,
- 9:38Speaker 1: do you have that in mind?
- 9:39Speaker 4: I do.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Sam Antonacci.
- 9:45Speaker 1: All right. Tell me about him. And also, I mean,
- 9:48Speaker 1: for fans that watch us and don't hear a lot
- 9:51Speaker 1: about him, this is a guy who I think White
- 9:53Speaker 1: Sox fans, I mentioned the team, but also White Sox
- 9:56Speaker 1: fans have really fallen in love with.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Sam Antonacci, to me, leadoff walk, right?
- 10:02Speaker 2: Scored the first run, drove in another run with a single,
- 10:05Speaker 2: got hit by pitch, plays a solid left field. He's
- 10:09Speaker 2: just a pest. He's a pest at the top of
- 10:10Speaker 2: the order. He's a pest just on the field. When
- 10:15Speaker 2: he steps on the field, he's a pest. This is
- 10:17Speaker 2: the kind of player White Sox fans loved. He doesn't
- 10:19Speaker 2: back down. He'll, you know, throw an elbow if he
- 10:22Speaker 2: needs to. But tonight was the perfect example. Lead off walk,
- 10:25Speaker 2: scores the first run, drives in another run, just on
- 10:28Speaker 2: base a bunch of times, just causing havoc. Same Antonacci
- 10:32Speaker 2: for me. Set the tone in this game and the
- 10:34Speaker 2: White Sox just followed his lead.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Can we give a shout out to the Pope too?
- 10:40Speaker 1: Your Pope hat worked earlier today on FT. Of course.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I mean, that's my guy. That's my guy. Pope Leo
- 10:47Speaker 2: sent the letter Mr.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Reinsdorf.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Pushing him luck, basically. It was a little interesting. It
- 10:56Speaker 2: was dated September 9th. It was dated September 9th, though,
- 11:00Speaker 2: so I'm trying to figure out why it took so
- 11:01Speaker 2: long to get to Chicago. Would they have to sail
- 11:03Speaker 2: over on one of Columbus's ships? I don't understand why
- 11:06Speaker 2: it took so long, but other than.
- 11:07Speaker 3: That, it was pretty cool.
- 11:08Speaker 1: The pigeons.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Oh, carrier pigeons. There you go.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. They bring them over, and it's pretty.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Far to get over.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Because the White Sox are small markets, so they couldn't
- 11:16Speaker 2: afford UPS or FedEx or any of the other ones.
- 11:20Speaker 1: We call it old school okay it's old school oh
- 11:24Speaker 1: that was the approach there got it but wait you
- 11:27Speaker 1: said september 9th was when it was dated that's.
- 11:30Speaker 2: What it's dated if you read that letter if you
- 11:32Speaker 2: zoom in on it at the bottom it says on
- 11:33Speaker 2: this day september 9th because i i think i'm pretty
- 11:36Speaker 2: sure that's what it says so we're in deep into
- 11:40Speaker 2: september so.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And it was a good luck on the postseason right.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Yeah totally so 20 days awesome.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Prior to today he was i'm saying it.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Seemed like it took a little longer than you would
- 11:54Speaker 3: have thought i'm trying to find the letter hold.
- 11:56Speaker 4: On well no i yeah i i don't know unless
- 12:02Speaker 4: unless i misread it which i don't think i did
- 12:05Speaker 4: but maybe hold.
- 12:08Speaker 3: On i'm trying to find it here white socks we.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Might have to do some more digging on this for
- 12:12Speaker 1: uh For tomorrow's show.
- 12:14Speaker 3: I'm trying to find the letter. It's hard to find
- 12:16Speaker 3: the letter.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 12:17Speaker 1: We have it. We dropped it.
- 12:18Speaker 3: At the bottom, it says, from the Vatican, 9th September, 2026.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I believe you. I'm just saying it was a bit
- 12:24Speaker 1: of a shock to see a letter that's dated at
- 12:27Speaker 1: that time. Anyway, player of the game is Sam Antonacci,
- 12:32Speaker 1: and then also the Pope for coming through with the letter.
- 12:36Speaker 1: That ends up being a little bit of good luck.
- 12:39Speaker 1: on the 9th, knowing that the team was going to
- 12:41Speaker 1: make the postseason. That's a super fan right there. MLB
- 12:44Speaker 1: on Fox, streaming on Fox One. Actually, eventually you'll get
- 12:47Speaker 1: AJ talking about a player of the game when we
- 12:49Speaker 1: get to the NLDS and his series there. But at home,
- 12:53Speaker 1: on the go, live on demand, never miss a moment.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Stream now. Start your Fox One three-day free trial today
- 12:57Speaker 1: at foxone.com. And then come back to me here. I
- 13:01Speaker 1: want to finish recapping this series by talking about what's next.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I know we mentioned it a little bit, but this
- 13:08Speaker 1: is With the Astros, I mean, I know you're not
- 13:11Speaker 1: in an ideal situation, but this is what the Astros
- 13:14Speaker 1: want if their backs are against the wall. Hunter Brown
- 13:17Speaker 1: is absolutely the guy that you want in a spot
- 13:21Speaker 1: like this.
- 13:23Speaker 2: He is their best pitcher, and they need him to
- 13:25Speaker 2: pitch like he's their best pitcher. But on the other side, though,
- 13:27Speaker 2: if Sean Burke starts for the White Sox, he's also
- 13:29Speaker 2: been their best pitcher for much of the second half.
- 13:31Speaker 2: So they also have it lined up where we have
- 13:35Speaker 2: Sean Burke ready to go. The Astros' bullpen is a
- 13:38Speaker 2: little depleted now because they used a lot of resources
- 13:41Speaker 2: to try to stay in this game. So it's kind
- 13:44Speaker 2: of worst-case scenario for the Astros, worst-best-case scenario, and it's
- 13:50Speaker 2: best-best-case for me for the White Sox because you beat
- 13:52Speaker 2: up their bullpen and now they're a little bit depleted
- 13:55Speaker 2: and you have your guy who you think is.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Your best pitcher in the second half ready to go.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think they're probably going to call on
- 14:02Speaker 1: Peter Lambert at some point in that game too if
- 14:04Speaker 1: need be. I mean, it could be one of those
- 14:06Speaker 1: situations where they get length from Brown. Peter Lambert gives
- 14:10Speaker 1: them something. I mean, they are hoping he's available in
- 14:13Speaker 1: game two. He had 41 pitches thrown on Sunday after
- 14:16Speaker 1: 62 pitches on Thursday where they helped him out on Sunday.
- 14:19Speaker 1: But he's been pretty good for them. So hopefully Lambert
- 14:23Speaker 1: will help. Who might go?
- 14:26Speaker 3: Hayter might go three innings.
- 14:28Speaker 1: If you just use those three, maybe that's what gets
- 14:31Speaker 1: you through it. So we'll see what happens. But great
- 14:33Speaker 1: start for the White Sox. winning game one there. We're
- 14:36Speaker 1: going to get to a different game here coming up
- 14:38Speaker 1: in a moment, but just a reminder to everyone, we're
- 14:40Speaker 1: going to do a lot of these post-game shows throughout
- 14:42Speaker 1: the post-season. If you can press subscribe if you're watching
- 14:44Speaker 1: right now, that would be lovely. Thank you very much.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Love that new graphic. Appreciate it. And let's get to
- 14:49Speaker 1: the other game that is in the books so far today.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Have a moment. All Smiles is presented by Lorraine Co.
- 15:04Speaker 4: And.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Have a day. Have a swing. Austin Riley after a
- 15:10Speaker 1: season that was not his shiniest, not his brightest. But
- 15:15Speaker 1: you can make up for all of that in one
- 15:17Speaker 1: swing late in a postseason game when the Braves needed him.
- 15:20Speaker 1: The Phillies were in control here a little bit late,
- 15:23Speaker 1: but their bullpen has let them down for the past
- 15:26Speaker 1: few years. It happened again.
- 15:27Speaker 4: 5-3.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Braves take game one. It's the Chris Sale game. And
- 15:30Speaker 1: Philly almost stole one here. Durant gives up this big homer.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Center cut to Austin Riley. What did you see?
- 15:39Speaker 2: Well, they kept saying, and if you looked at Austin
- 15:41Speaker 2: Riley's numbers, he hasn't hit fastballs very well. He finally
- 15:44Speaker 2: got to one. I think he just went all chips
- 15:46Speaker 2: all in. He's those guys throwing a hundred. Even if
- 15:48Speaker 2: he throws me a split, it's still going to be
- 15:50Speaker 2: 98 miles an hour. So I'm just going to go
- 15:54Speaker 2: for it. And he threw it right down the middle.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I mean, but let's not forget, there was two important
- 15:58Speaker 2: ambassadors before that. Michael Harris infield single after a long
- 16:01Speaker 2: at bat. Ozzie Albies got hit by pitch walk. It
- 16:04Speaker 2: was hit by pitch, I guess. Um, three, two after
- 16:07Speaker 2: a long at bat to get Austin Riley up there
- 16:10Speaker 2: with a chance. And Austin Riley had left a bunch
- 16:11Speaker 2: of guys on base his first few at bat. So
- 16:14Speaker 2: this was kind of redemption for him, right center. It's
- 16:16Speaker 2: where his best swings are. Chris Sale pitched really well.
- 16:18Speaker 2: JT Romuto, huge triple, um, not off sale, um, off
- 16:23Speaker 2: Fuentes to, to give the, the.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Phillies the lead.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Um, out of bone with a huge swing early in
- 16:30Speaker 2: the game off of Chris sale. But to me, this
- 16:33Speaker 2: was all about the, they brought in Johan Duran in
- 16:36Speaker 2: the seventh inning. Is he going to go nine out?
- 16:39Speaker 2: I mean, now is he available tomorrow? Cause he threw
- 16:41Speaker 2: a lot of pitches too.
- 16:42Speaker 3: So I guess the good thing is the Phillies didn't
- 16:45Speaker 3: have to pitch the bottom of the ninth. I maybe,
- 16:46Speaker 3: I don't know, but, Uh, wow.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Um, just, uh, just a, well, a very interesting game
- 16:53Speaker 2: on the strategy point, especially on the Philly side with
- 16:55Speaker 2: the wrong one that far, we didn't know how long
- 16:57Speaker 2: was Ardo go. He gave me five strong innings. Uh,
- 17:00Speaker 2: sale was great again. Um, just, it was a good,
- 17:03Speaker 2: it was a really good game and a really entertaining game.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Yeah. My thing is if you're Philly and you're using
- 17:10Speaker 1: Duran that early.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:12Speaker 1: But what did it look like after that? I mean,
- 17:17Speaker 1: It's just not a good sign when, you know, Enderon's
- 17:19Speaker 1: getting called upon, right, in the seventh.
- 17:22Speaker 3: In the seventh?
- 17:23Speaker 2: Yes, here.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, in the eighth, okay, in the seventh
- 17:26Speaker 1: in your first game here, and I know it's only
- 17:28Speaker 1: a best out of three, so you're doing your thing,
- 17:29Speaker 1: but it just makes you feel uneasy about their circle
- 17:32Speaker 1: of trust. Like, if Philly somehow wins the next one, right,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and then, I mean, even advances here, what is the
- 17:39Speaker 1: circle of trust going to look like for the Philly bullpen?
- 17:42Speaker 1: It doesn't make you feel good, I'll tell you that. No.
- 17:46Speaker 2: If you're a Phillies fan, you're like, what just happened?
- 17:49Speaker 2: I mean, you think, all right, Real Muto has like, oh,
- 17:52Speaker 2: what are you going to do? He's an 0 for 33,
- 17:53Speaker 2: I think, to end the year.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yeah, 0 for 34.
- 17:58Speaker 2: And then he gets that huge triple down the right
- 18:00Speaker 2: field line to give him a lead. And you're thinking, oh, man,
- 18:04Speaker 2: we're going to steal this game. Here comes, then you
- 18:06Speaker 2: look up and you're like, Deron's in the seventh?
- 18:09Speaker 3: Wow. I mean, I know it was the.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Top of the order and I know that you want
- 18:13Speaker 2: your best pitcher against the best part, but man, asking
- 18:15Speaker 2: them to go three innings is still a lot. He
- 18:17Speaker 2: only threw 27 pitches, but it's still, he was up
- 18:20Speaker 2: down twice. He would have been up down three times.
- 18:22Speaker 2: It wasn't, it would have been different, but they didn't win.
- 18:25Speaker 2: And again, much like the Astros and you know, they
- 18:28Speaker 2: used a lot of resources to not.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Win a game that they needed to win.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Yeah. And Mac L posted this stat, the Phillies blow
- 18:36Speaker 1: a game one lead in the seventh inning or later
- 18:38Speaker 1: for a third straight post season. And If you go
- 18:41Speaker 1: back to 2024, nine postseason games total, they've given up
- 18:45Speaker 1: 41 total runs, okay? 35 of them have come in
- 18:49Speaker 1: the sixth inning or later. Very clear-cut team here with Philly.
- 18:53Speaker 1: They know how to rack up starting pitching. They do
- 18:56Speaker 1: not know how to finish games, right? Very nice and simple.
- 18:59Speaker 1: It's one of the best starting staffs we've had in
- 19:01Speaker 1: the game in the last few years, and that'll happen
- 19:03Speaker 1: again here with Christopher Sanchez starting game two. They burned
- 19:06Speaker 1: Wheeler on Sunday because they were falling apart. at the
- 19:09Speaker 1: end of the season. So they're just not in a
- 19:11Speaker 1: good place heading into this one. And to me, this
- 19:15Speaker 1: looks like a prime opportunity for Tyler Molly to shine
- 19:18Speaker 1: against Sanchez, keep them in the game. Braves have a
- 19:20Speaker 1: much better bullpen, right? Braves bullpens really good. Often should
- 19:24Speaker 1: be better for the Braves and more consistent. And this
- 19:27Speaker 1: is a chance for them to put them away in
- 19:28Speaker 1: two games. Yeah.
- 19:30Speaker 3: They don't want to, they don't want to give them
- 19:32Speaker 3: any hope.
- 19:32Speaker 2: They, they want this game over with, they want this
- 19:34Speaker 2: series over where they want to win Tomorrow and get
- 19:37Speaker 2: it over.
- 19:37Speaker 3: They don't want to go to game three. They don't
- 19:39Speaker 3: want they just don't want that to happen.
- 19:40Speaker 2: You kind of give them a big I don't see
- 19:44Speaker 2: you gave him a haymaker by Austin Riley's home run.
- 19:46Speaker 3: This was this was a serious haymaker to their.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Psyche whatever you want to call it for the Phillies
- 19:52Speaker 2: fans against the guy who they were counting on he's
- 19:54Speaker 2: been really good for a couple years so you know
- 19:56Speaker 2: you can say those.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Numbers but it hasn't been him a lot of times been.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Other guys Perkering Alvarado whoever you want to throw out
- 20:02Speaker 2: there it's been other guys Hoffman I mean, there's been
- 20:04Speaker 2: a list of guys who have given it up. It
- 20:06Speaker 2: hasn't been Duran. So when Johan Duran gives it up,
- 20:09Speaker 2: you're like, whoa, wait.
- 20:10Speaker 3: A second, what just happened?
- 20:11Speaker 2: So, again, it's really hard to bounce back when your
- 20:15Speaker 2: closer blows a game, especially when you think you're going
- 20:19Speaker 2: to steal.
- 20:19Speaker 3: I don't want.
- 20:20Speaker 2: To put it all on Duran because there was other
- 20:22Speaker 2: opportunities and there was other things that happened.
- 20:24Speaker 3: But, man, now it stings when your.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Closer, a guy you've been counting on, a guy you've
- 20:28Speaker 2: counted on for years, gives it up.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Those are the ones that really hurt, especially in a
- 20:32Speaker 3: short series.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and then they have Bryce L. Glacius shutting it
- 20:36Speaker 1: down in the ninth inning. For Atlanta, too, just in
- 20:40Speaker 1: case they do fall in game two, I mentioned Wheeler
- 20:44Speaker 1: pitching Sunday. Technically, he could pitch game three on short rest.
- 20:49Speaker 1: That would not be fun for them.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Did they do that, though? I mean, they got way
- 20:52Speaker 3: more out of Lozardo than they thought. I figured.
- 20:55Speaker 2: I mean, they said he was an opener. He went
- 20:56Speaker 2: five innings. It looked really good. I guess that shoulder's
- 21:00Speaker 2: feeling all right.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I mean, the Velo faded a little bit later in
- 21:04Speaker 1: the game, right? Like first inning Velo was 98 on average.
- 21:07Speaker 1: And then by the, was it the fourth inning? He
- 21:10Speaker 1: was at 95.7, which still plays if you're locating and
- 21:13Speaker 1: you have the sweeper and his sweeper is like potentially
- 21:16Speaker 1: the best pitch in baseball. Many stat nerds say it
- 21:19Speaker 1: is in terms of the metrics there. So yeah, you're right.
- 21:23Speaker 1: You could not have asked for more out of Lizardo
- 21:25Speaker 1: after he hadn't started a game in a few weeks.
- 21:27Speaker 1: He had the one inning appearance on, Sunday and gave
- 21:30Speaker 1: them 77 pitches, five innings, one run. I mean, he
- 21:33Speaker 1: kept up with sale, sale, gave up three runs. So,
- 21:35Speaker 1: I mean, he, he more than kept up with sale.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Oh yeah. He pitched great.
- 21:40Speaker 2: And again, they, they were in a great spot to
- 21:45Speaker 2: steal this game and it didn't happen.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I mean, Lizardo was great.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I mean, uh, McFarland was great after him, Alec Boone
- 21:50Speaker 2: with the big hit, Titi Romuto with the big hit.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Um, but you know, nothing, not much out of Schwarber,
- 21:55Speaker 3: not much out of Harper, which is understandable with sale
- 21:57Speaker 3: on the mound.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Um, but the other guys stepped up and you just, gosh,
- 22:02Speaker 2: you know, you wish there was a way to Ron
- 22:04Speaker 2: didn't have to pitch the seventh.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:05Speaker 2: And then you get them through the eighth and the ninth.
- 22:07Speaker 2: That's a little more doable than asking a guy to
- 22:09Speaker 2: go three innings. I don't think that Toronto's probably ever
- 22:13Speaker 2: gone three innings in his life. I mean, I know
- 22:15Speaker 2: he didn't have to go there, but two, two innings
- 22:18Speaker 2: is still a lot. I mean, I know closers do
- 22:21Speaker 2: it in post-season, but that's a lot. And then that
- 22:23Speaker 2: second inning, it got real dicey real fast with the,
- 22:27Speaker 2: Infield hit, walk, and then, wow, first pitch right down
- 22:29Speaker 2: the middle, whack, homer.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, did Trey Turner have a chance at that one
- 22:34Speaker 1: or Harris was going to be safe?
- 22:35Speaker 2: No, that was such a tough play because he didn't
- 22:37Speaker 2: hit it very hard. Harris, he can fly, so he
- 22:39Speaker 2: didn't hit it very hard. Michael Harris had a nice
- 22:41Speaker 2: game too, by the way. Let's not forget about him
- 22:43Speaker 2: on brave side, offensively and defensively. No, did Turner have
- 22:47Speaker 2: a chance? No, they're talking about his finger and all that.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Like, no, his finger, no.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Michael Harris just beat it. you know, they were like, Oh, he,
- 22:54Speaker 2: he made a bad throw. Even if he makes a
- 22:55Speaker 2: perfect though, he still beats that. So I didn't, I
- 22:58Speaker 2: didn't think that that was just, no, he was too fast.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Yeah. And you mentioned all these earlier full count hit
- 23:06Speaker 1: by pitch to keep things running huge. And he had
- 23:10Speaker 1: two knocks earlier that were hard hit off the bat.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I think both over a hundred mile an hour exit velocity.
- 23:15Speaker 1: So some, some guys, I mean, that didn't have the
- 23:18Speaker 1: best years all of a sudden have been in postseason
- 23:20Speaker 1: moments and they're still good players and they should be
- 23:22Speaker 1: still somewhat in their prime years in terms of the
- 23:25Speaker 1: age curve in baseball. So that could be a good sign.
- 23:28Speaker 2: And also, Walt Weiss gets some credit for starting Estremski
- 23:32Speaker 2: against Lizardo. He got the big hit early in the
- 23:34Speaker 2: game to tie that game up left on left. And
- 23:37Speaker 2: they were only thinking he was starting because they were
- 23:39Speaker 2: assuming Lizardo was only going to go you know, an
- 23:43Speaker 2: inning or two, they were thinking maybe three one time
- 23:45Speaker 2: through and he ended up being out there for five innings,
- 23:47Speaker 2: but a huge knock for Yastrzemski.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I think it was in the second inning to tie
- 23:51Speaker 3: the game at one. Yeah.
- 23:53Speaker 1: And they were chanting Austin Riley's name on the way
- 23:56Speaker 1: out there. You know, the Braves didn't make the playoffs
- 23:59Speaker 1: last year, but they've also been a team that's had
- 24:01Speaker 1: a lot of winning, a lot of taking the division
- 24:03Speaker 1: crown over the last 10 years. They have a world
- 24:05Speaker 1: series title under their belt. And I would say if anything,
- 24:09Speaker 1: you know, heading into a, Deeper postseason series if they're
- 24:13Speaker 1: able to advance here. What? You're concerned about what the
- 24:16Speaker 1: beginning of the game is going to look like on
- 24:18Speaker 1: a daily basis for them?
- 24:19Speaker 4: I hope.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Martin Perez still has a chance of returning for the
- 24:22Speaker 1: next round, by the way. That could help. Had a
- 24:27Speaker 1: solid year.
- 24:27Speaker 2: If the Braves win this and they get to go
- 24:28Speaker 2: play the Dodgers, that's going to be a battle. That's
- 24:31Speaker 2: going to be a real battle, especially if Molly can
- 24:34Speaker 2: pitch well. We know Sale is going to step up.
- 24:38Speaker 2: If you get Tyler Molly to pitch well, And then
- 24:40Speaker 2: their bullpen and their offense is legit. And one thing
- 24:43Speaker 2: about the Dodgers, they've had a little bit of a
- 24:44Speaker 2: hard time. Well, I guess less than what we expected
- 24:48Speaker 2: of scoring a run. So, again, it's a big gift.
- 24:51Speaker 2: They have to win another game. But if they get through,
- 24:54Speaker 2: I don't mind their chances.
- 24:57Speaker 1: No. And for me, the bullpens too, right? The thing
- 25:01Speaker 1: is if they do advance here and they match up with– LA.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I mean, the Dodgers should have significantly better starting pitching,
- 25:08Speaker 1: but they should be able to match them pretty closely
- 25:10Speaker 1: on bullpen and offense.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:13Speaker 1: So two out of three components there and defense probably,
- 25:17Speaker 1: I don't know, where would you go on the advantage?
- 25:19Speaker 1: They're probably pretty close between those two.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Pretty close.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I mean, what are we going to show a, you know, Mookie,
- 25:25Speaker 2: good Mookie, bad Mookie, Freddie, Freddie have power.
- 25:28Speaker 3: I mean, it's, it's, it's pretty equal. Yeah.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Um, there's a look at the series breakdown right now. Um,
- 25:35Speaker 1: but some big boys for Atlanta, uh, Austin Riley taking
- 25:39Speaker 1: it all smiles there for Austin Riley. And yes, Chris
- 25:42Speaker 1: sale had nine punch outs in his work for Atlanta
- 25:46Speaker 1: to more than keep them in the game here. So
- 25:48Speaker 1: props to him still doing it late, late in his career,
- 25:52Speaker 1: looking like he's in his prime. He had a hundred
- 25:54Speaker 1: on what was the strikeout to, to get Harper. I
- 25:59Speaker 1: think he hit a hundred miles an hour on that
- 26:00Speaker 1: early on.
- 26:01Speaker 4: In the game.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Yes, he did in the first inning.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Yeah. A hundred miles an hour. And even the knock
- 26:07Speaker 1: from bone was something, I mean, he had allowed one
- 26:09Speaker 1: hit all year on a fastball above the zone one,
- 26:12Speaker 1: and it was on opening day to Bobby witch juniors. So, uh,
- 26:15Speaker 1: you know, good job by the Phillies to fight early,
- 26:17Speaker 1: but ends up not really working out for them based
- 26:20Speaker 1: on the bullpen there. So, uh, anyway, that's what we
- 26:24Speaker 1: got on the Braves taking down the Phillies in game one. And,
- 26:28Speaker 1: Austin Riley is all smiles presented by Lorraine Co. A
- 26:31Speaker 1: little shout out to them for helping us out with

- 27:54Speaker 3: Thanks, everyone.
