- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newhart, and today
- 0:16Speaker 2: we're joined by Steve Rinella, Clay Newcombe, Brent Reeves, Hunter Spencer,
- 0:21Speaker 2: Jason Phelps, Paul Lewis, Dave Smith, and Brad Cochrane. This
- 0:25Speaker 2: is a ten round quizz show with questions from meat
- 0:27Speaker 2: eaters for verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking,
- 0:30Speaker 2: and there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five
- 0:33Speaker 2: hundred dollars to the conservation organization of the winners choosing Now,
- 0:37Speaker 2: Dave and Brad, this is your first time playing Meat
- 0:40Speaker 2: Eater Trivia. How do you think you're gonna do?
- 0:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna bomb you think so?
- 0:45Speaker 3: My confidence is at an all time low.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Okay, this reminds me of like high school report.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Let's do the next morning, and I have been checking
- 0:53Speaker 3: traps all.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Morning so.
- 0:57Speaker 4: That it could help you in this game.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Though it could help well, the thing is like I
- 1:01Speaker 3: might know the answer, but I will just freaking lock
- 1:03Speaker 3: up and panic, like when I can't remember like my
- 1:06Speaker 3: uncle's name or something. You know, I'm just like, but
- 1:10Speaker 3: you know what I'm gonna get through it.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Before the show, I was saying Dave didn't have much confidence,
- 1:15Speaker 2: and he said I was giving him too much credit.
- 1:17Speaker 2: He has zero confidence, is what he's declared.
- 1:20Speaker 5: Brad.
- 1:20Speaker 2: How you think you're gonna do a meat eatter Trivia
- 1:22Speaker 2: topic is hunting, fishing, conservation, cooking?
- 1:25Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:25Speaker 6: Okay, Well in that case, I might do Okay.
- 1:28Speaker 5: I was worried you were.
- 1:29Speaker 6: Going to say, like, we're going to talk about Einstein's
- 1:32Speaker 6: theory of relativity or something which cape So I probably
- 1:35Speaker 6: wouldn't do so well.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I'd be satisfied if I could figure out a way
- 1:38Speaker 2: to ask that question. It's not in today's round, but yeah,
- 1:41Speaker 2: maybe maybe someday.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I could fit that air enough.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Paul, did you ever think about naming your company the
- 1:47Speaker 2: Paul Lewis Gear like Phelps and Dave here?
- 1:50Speaker 5: Did we had this conversation earlier? You did?
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:54Speaker 5: We we FHF.
- 1:56Speaker 6: I wish I would have thought that through something a
- 1:58Speaker 6: little easier to pronounce.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Now, each week here on Trivia, we reveal a new
- 2:06Speaker 2: stat for the stat of the week. This week we're
- 2:08Speaker 2: looking at the prevalence of the name David Smith in America.
- 2:12Speaker 2: David Smith is the second most popular full name in
- 2:16Speaker 2: the United States. Do you have any guesses as to
- 2:18Speaker 2: what is first? That's not it, any other guesses as
- 2:24Speaker 2: to what the first most popular name is? You have Smith? Right, really, George, No,
- 2:31Speaker 2: James Smith is the most popular full name. So you
- 2:34Speaker 2: guys flirted with the right answer reading' quit get it.
- 2:37Speaker 2: It's estimated there are forty two thousand David Smith's living
- 2:41Speaker 2: in America right now. That means you could take every
- 2:44Speaker 2: David Smith in the country, sell out Wrigley Field with
- 2:48Speaker 2: just David Smith's and still have enough David Smith's left
- 2:51Speaker 2: over to play a baseball game against each other.
- 2:55Speaker 5: You can page David Smith, Dave.
- 2:59Speaker 2: How many Daves mist you know?
- 3:01Speaker 3: I know, I know a couple for sure even now,
- 3:05Speaker 3: which was cool. But I just remember my best friend
- 3:08Speaker 3: in grade school's name was Tim Jones. And we'd like
- 3:11Speaker 3: get caught, you know, climbing up on top of the
- 3:13Speaker 3: roof or something like that, and they'd catch us and
- 3:15Speaker 3: they said, what are you guys' names? We'd be like,
- 3:17Speaker 3: Dave Smith, Tim Jones, and like, what.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Are your real names?
- 3:21Speaker 1: Alias? Smith and Jones?
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, Smith and Jones. And also on the show, we
- 3:25Speaker 2: have an Infrequently Asked Question segment where we answer fan
- 3:29Speaker 2: questions about Trivia. This week, our question comes from Clay Newcombe. Clay,
- 3:33Speaker 2: what's your question?
- 3:35Speaker 4: Well, okay, there's a lot of stuff thrown around about,
- 3:41Speaker 4: like who's the best at this game? You know, like wins,
- 3:44Speaker 4: losses all this?
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yep.
- 3:47Speaker 4: I I I'm interested in percentage of wins per times
- 3:52Speaker 4: you've been in the game.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Yep.
- 3:54Speaker 4: And I think I've got a shot.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I can't tell you the answer off the top of
- 3:57Speaker 2: my head. I've covered it before. But Clay, your top three,
- 3:59Speaker 2: you're like right there.
- 4:00Speaker 4: I feel like I went a lot.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Yeah, Clay does very well. He also doesn't play that
- 4:04Speaker 2: again like no credit, We give you your credit. Another
- 4:09Speaker 2: strong performer who doesn't play out and off is Tony Peterson.
- 4:13Speaker 2: You and Tony both do well. We could use more
- 4:16Speaker 2: Clay and more Tony.
- 4:17Speaker 4: On if Steve and Brody aren't here, I have a chance.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right up there.
- 4:21Speaker 5: You told me.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Spencer told me early on. He just nailed that. He
- 4:23Speaker 4: was like, Clay, your weakness is cooking, Yeah, and fishing,
- 4:27Speaker 4: two weaknesses.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I've seen you cook.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Only half the game. I agree, only half the game
- 4:33Speaker 2: is his weakness. Now, for the housekeeping portion of today's show,
- 4:37Speaker 2: I want to have Steve share a story that I
- 4:39Speaker 2: heard at his birthday party over the weekend. One of
- 4:41Speaker 2: Steve's old college roommates explained how Steve developed a full
- 4:45Speaker 2: proof way from of keeping a house party from getting
- 4:48Speaker 2: busted by the cops. And while Steve has contributed many
- 4:51Speaker 2: great things to the hunting and fishing community, I'm convinced
- 4:53Speaker 2: this will be his greatest contribution of all. Steve tell
- 4:57Speaker 2: folks that story.
- 4:58Speaker 5: It started out where we were coming back from fishing
- 5:04Speaker 5: steel Head on the Pire Marquette River and someone in
- 5:07Speaker 5: front of us hit a deer, and I kept the
- 5:11Speaker 5: deer and took it back. I was living, I was
- 5:13Speaker 5: in school and living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was
- 5:19Speaker 5: late it was later in the year, maybe late May.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Early June, I can't quite remember.
- 5:24Speaker 5: Or it might have been like now and then you'd
- 5:25Speaker 5: get some chinook up in I can't we're fishing the
- 5:28Speaker 5: PM because now then you get some chinook in that river.
- 5:31Speaker 5: You'd get chinnook sometimes in July, which is weird. Either way,
- 5:34Speaker 5: we're fishing that river. That makes more sense either way.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Guy hits a deer and get I'd take the deer
- 5:43Speaker 5: and I'd take it back. And I was living in
- 5:44Speaker 5: a kind of flophouse, like none of the people in
- 5:47Speaker 5: the house were on the lease, and none of the
- 5:49Speaker 5: people in the house even really knew who the house
- 5:51Speaker 5: is rented from. It's just people rotated in and out.
- 5:54Speaker 5: And I was on an in rotation. And it was
- 5:57Speaker 5: friends of mine that lived there. And we had an
- 6:00Speaker 5: idea we were going to take the deer I had
- 6:02Speaker 5: and sew cut it up and sew it into a
- 6:05Speaker 5: pig and have a pig roast. And somehow I found
- 6:08Speaker 5: out that you could do a block party. You could
- 6:11Speaker 5: a family reunion, could block the road off for some roads.
- 6:18Speaker 5: So I registered a family reunion under an alias that
- 6:22Speaker 5: I still use, David Smith. No No, And sure enough
- 6:31Speaker 5: the cops came.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Like, what was the scene of this place? Like how
- 6:34Speaker 2: many kids were there?
- 6:35Speaker 5: I assumed way over one hundred.
- 6:38Speaker 2: A lot of people were there broad daylight.
- 6:40Speaker 5: We had a big sign that said the blank blank
- 6:43Speaker 5: family reunion, and and and lo and behold, the cops
- 6:47Speaker 5: did show up. We did tell them, oh, it's our
- 6:50Speaker 5: family reunion.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Well that's then the punchline of the whole thing is
- 6:54Speaker 4: you saying that a cops never break up a family reunion. Yeah,
- 6:58Speaker 4: that was the funny part.
- 7:00Speaker 5: And then you and my buddy remembers that when the
- 7:03Speaker 5: cop did come, the cop observed that I think my
- 7:05Speaker 5: brother's in.
- 7:06Speaker 2: There, and then he said, well you must know so
- 7:11Speaker 2: and so as part of the family. That's that's Uh,
- 7:14Speaker 2: that's an incredible story, uh, Steve.
- 7:17Speaker 5: So in registering your family reunion party, no one actually
- 7:20Speaker 5: does any research to find out if, in fact they
- 7:23Speaker 5: take you at face value when you tell them that
- 7:25Speaker 5: you're having a family reunion and that you need to
- 7:27Speaker 5: block your road off.
- 7:28Speaker 2: That is uh, that is something that's going to be
- 7:30Speaker 2: used on college campuses around the country. Uh this spring, Steve.
- 7:34Speaker 2: It's a great piece of advice. Now, the Shelby Index
- 7:38Speaker 2: for today's round is a four, so our winner should
- 7:40Speaker 2: get eight correct answers. And with that we're onto the
- 7:43Speaker 2: game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look, I need
- 7:49Speaker 2: to know what I stand to win everything.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I'll say, just tend to win everything.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Game on Suckers.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Question one, the topic is conservation. In this will be
- 8:08Speaker 2: multiple choice, which of these endangered space what do you got?
- 8:16Speaker 5: You should tell everybody about how what we did with
- 8:20Speaker 5: what we did at the in Portland.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Yeah, so our one hundredth episode came out. We tried
- 8:24Speaker 2: a new style of meat eat or trivia that we're
- 8:27Speaker 2: referring to his meat pool, where I survey hunters and
- 8:30Speaker 2: anglers and they answer a question one of two ways,
- 8:33Speaker 2: and then the people in here predict their answers. We
- 8:36Speaker 2: did this at the Portland PNW Sportsman Show, where I
- 8:40Speaker 2: walked around and I surveyed over one hundred people who
- 8:42Speaker 2: were attending this event. Ask some questions like do you
- 8:45Speaker 2: believe in Bigfoot? Does your hunting dog sleep in bed?
- 8:49Speaker 2: Would you rather be attacked by an alligator or a
- 8:51Speaker 2: mountain lion? The most stunning piece of data we gathered,
- 8:55Speaker 2: I think, was do you believe in Bigfoot?
- 8:58Speaker 5: Well Spencer without realizing it, or maybe with realizing it,
- 9:04Speaker 5: was doing his survey in very close proximity to the
- 9:07Speaker 5: Bigfoot booth.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been to there was a Bigfoot believer booth.
- 9:12Speaker 5: There's a Bigfoot believer bun. So he comes back, He's like,
- 9:16Speaker 5: forty percent of people believe in Bigfoot.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 9:19Speaker 5: I'm like, yeah, at the Bigfoot go to.
- 9:21Speaker 1: The other side of the room.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been to like a half dozen of these
- 9:25Speaker 2: types of shows. I've never seen booth space dedicated to bigfoot,
- 9:28Speaker 2: but the Portland show had one. Now, also, mind you,
- 9:32Speaker 2: Washington leads the country in Bigfoot sightings. It's just a
- 9:35Speaker 2: it's just a bigfooty area. But forty one percent of
- 9:39Speaker 2: people at this event who were buying calls from Jason
- 9:42Speaker 2: Phelps and buying gear from Paul and Dave Smith decoys,
- 9:45Speaker 2: they believed in Bigfoot.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Forty one How many people were joking when they said it.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Well, you know, it's the opposite way Clay people would like.
- 9:53Speaker 2: They were kind of bashful about saying that they did
- 9:55Speaker 2: believe in Bigfoot. Depending on who was around him, they'd
- 9:57Speaker 2: be like, yeah, mark me down, or the like kind
- 10:00Speaker 2: of they'd I who could hear their answer? And they
- 10:02Speaker 2: they would say.
- 10:03Speaker 5: Yes, Well that's why that's why Trump pulled low in
- 10:06Speaker 5: twenty sixteen.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Oh okay.
- 10:08Speaker 5: People didn't want to talk about they didn't want to
- 10:09Speaker 5: fight about it. Well, so later when they're like, how
- 10:12Speaker 5: were the poles so wrong? A lot of people were like,
- 10:14Speaker 5: I feel like arguing about it, lest act like I
- 10:17Speaker 5: like someone I don't.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Meanwhile, I learned that eight percent of people there
- 10:21Speaker 2: believed that the moon landing was faked, which is lower
- 10:24Speaker 2: than the national average. But they they far exceed the
- 10:28Speaker 2: amount of people who believe in Bigfoot. So they have
- 10:30Speaker 2: their conspiracy theory and that's Bigfoot. But don't bother asking
- 10:34Speaker 2: about a moon landing. They don't buy it. Question one
- 10:38Speaker 2: the topic is conservation. This is multiple choice. Which of
- 10:41Speaker 2: these endangered species has the highest population in the wild?
- 10:47Speaker 2: Is it blue whales, California condors, red wolves, or blackfooted ferrets?
- 10:55Speaker 2: Which of these endangered species has the highest population in
- 10:59Speaker 2: the wild? Your four choices? Blue whales, California condors, red wolves,
- 11:06Speaker 2: blackfooted ferrets. Now, Dave, you were quick to answer, is
- 11:09Speaker 2: that just to like get it over with? Or do
- 11:11Speaker 2: you know this one?
- 11:14Speaker 1: It was to get it over with?
- 11:15Speaker 5: Okay, Dave, give me a little peak what you got by.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Steve agrees uh waiting on Hunter and Jason. Blue whales,
- 11:25Speaker 2: California condors, red wolves, blackfooted ferrets? Which of those has
- 11:28Speaker 2: the highest population in the wild. Is everybody ready go
- 11:33Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Dave saying blue whales,
- 11:37Speaker 2: Paul saying blue whales, Brent saying blackfooted ferrets, and he
- 11:41Speaker 2: drew us a raccoon looking blackfooted ferret. Phelps saying what.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Mascot?
- 11:51Speaker 2: Phelps saying blackfooted ferrets, Hunter saying blue whales, Clay saying
- 11:56Speaker 2: blue whales, Brad saying blackfooted ferrets, Steve saying blue whales.
- 12:01Speaker 2: The correct answer is blue whales. Yes, about half of
- 12:05Speaker 2: you got that right. It's estimated that in the wild
- 12:08Speaker 2: there are thirty five red wolves, three hundred and fifty
- 12:11Speaker 2: California condors, four hundred and fifty blackfooted ferrets, and fifteen
- 12:16Speaker 2: thousand blue whales.
- 12:17Speaker 5: Blue whales is one of those ones that they put
- 12:20Speaker 5: on the that they give endangered species protection too, because
- 12:24Speaker 5: they feel like it ought to be It's like with
- 12:27Speaker 5: the new wolverine one. Sure they feel like it ought
- 12:30Speaker 5: to be endangered.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of ocean critters are given a little
- 12:33Speaker 2: more leeway out of there.
- 12:35Speaker 5: Like I wish it was endangered because it'd be sweet
- 12:38Speaker 5: if we could put it on the endangered species list.
- 12:40Speaker 2: The greatest threats to blue whales or vessel strikes, entanglement
- 12:43Speaker 2: and fishing gear, pollution, and ocean noise. Blue whale populations
- 12:47Speaker 2: are on the rise, and biologists are starting to see
- 12:50Speaker 2: them return to places they were once extirpated. Let's go
- 12:53Speaker 2: Question two. The topic is biology. This next great question
- 12:57Speaker 2: comes to us via David Escobales. This eight letter word
- 13:02Speaker 2: is defined as quote the hard upper shell of a
- 13:06Speaker 2: turtle or crustacean. Steve knows it, okay, he's doing the
- 13:13Speaker 2: Hangman method.
- 13:15Speaker 1: The question.
- 13:16Speaker 2: This eight letter word is defined as the hard upper
- 13:20Speaker 2: shell of a turtle or crustation.
- 13:22Speaker 5: You have to spell it right.
- 13:24Speaker 2: You don't have to spell it right, but I hope
- 13:26Speaker 2: you have eight letters.
- 13:28Speaker 5: I think that anything that has to do with how
- 13:30Speaker 5: you spell it should be spelled right.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Not We're not gonna We're not gonna make you a
- 13:36Speaker 2: genre of question just spelling.
- 13:38Speaker 5: No, be like a type of question, how do you
- 13:41Speaker 5: spell and then give a biological term.
- 13:44Speaker 2: We did that once. It was we did the winning
- 13:48Speaker 2: word from the Kids Spelling Bee, which was more hen,
- 13:52Speaker 2: which is a way to describe a cout. We had
- 13:55Speaker 2: you spell more hen. It's the only time in meat
- 13:57Speaker 2: eater history we've now had like eleven hundred questions, the
- 14:01Speaker 2: only time we're spelling has mattered. Here's the question again.
- 14:04Speaker 2: This eight letter word is defined as quote, the hard
- 14:08Speaker 2: upper shell of a turtle or crustacean who thinks they
- 14:11Speaker 2: have it right. The room does not look confident.
- 14:15Speaker 5: Letters are you writing top shell?
- 14:17Speaker 1: No?
- 14:19Speaker 2: Wait a minute, eight letter word. Steve is the only
- 14:24Speaker 2: one who asked any confidence.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Everybody got it right?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Okay, it's everybody ready. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Can I get extra question the bottom?
- 14:36Speaker 2: No, we have Dave saying turtle house, Paul without an answer,
- 14:42Speaker 2: Brent saying epic crust. Oh wow, that was a good answer,
- 14:45Speaker 2: Phelps without an answer, Hunters saying mollusk, Clay saying exoskeleton
- 14:50Speaker 2: he ran a few words over a few letters over
- 14:53Speaker 2: Brad without an answer, or Brand saying exoshell. Steve saying therapist,
- 14:58Speaker 2: Steve got it The correct answer carapis The carapace is
- 15:03Speaker 2: the exoskeleton on the dorsal side of a turtle, while
- 15:06Speaker 2: the plast drown is the shield on the ventral side. Typically,
- 15:10Speaker 2: a male's plas drown will be concave and a female's
- 15:13Speaker 2: plastern will be convex, which helps them during breeding. Also,
- 15:17Speaker 2: a female's plastern is usually muted in color, which is
- 15:20Speaker 2: one of the best ways to identify the sex of
- 15:23Speaker 2: a turtle. Question so If you look at the bottom
- 15:29Speaker 2: of a turtle shell, if it's very vibranting color, that's
- 15:32Speaker 2: likely a male. If it's very muted in color, that's
- 15:35Speaker 2: likely a female. Now you can go out there sex
- 15:38Speaker 2: and turtles. Well, you know it's not like that.
- 15:41Speaker 5: Somewhere that no.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I read that, just like a blue crab's got the
- 15:46Speaker 2: blue bottom.
- 15:47Speaker 1: There you go.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Question three. Question three, the topic is foraging. What vulgar
- 15:55Speaker 2: name is often used to describe half free morale mushrooms?
- 16:02Speaker 2: The room is stumped. The topic is foraging. What vulgar
- 16:06Speaker 2: name is often used to describe half free moral mushrooms?
- 16:11Speaker 4: Half free?
- 16:12Speaker 2: Half free?
- 16:12Speaker 4: To describe what that means.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Not gonna help you out? Half free is what some
- 16:19Speaker 2: folks would refer to this type of mushroom. But there's
- 16:21Speaker 2: a vulgar nickname that goes along with it. What vulgar?
- 16:25Speaker 7: What if I had a moral like like uh, like, like,
- 16:30Speaker 7: who's the guy from you know, the guy from Tennessee
- 16:34Speaker 7: that wouldn't fight in World War two?
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:38Speaker 2: Mm hm, So you know the answer, you're saying.
- 16:41Speaker 4: I know the answer, but I have moral obligations to
- 16:44Speaker 4: saying that. I'd like the point you can handle down
- 16:50Speaker 4: I'm kidding.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I don't know, but what would it be below? You
- 16:55Speaker 2: Clay to write it down? If I guess? It depends
- 16:57Speaker 2: how vulgar it is, right, it depends, Steve, you have
- 17:00Speaker 2: this one right. You're the only one who's come up
- 17:01Speaker 2: with an I probably got it. Okay, what vulgar name
- 17:04Speaker 2: is often used to describe half free morel mushrooms. This
- 17:09Speaker 2: may stump the room. This is question three.
- 17:13Speaker 5: It's gonna with something vulgar.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good strategy.
- 17:18Speaker 5: If I's gonna write the worst thing you can think of,
- 17:22Speaker 5: that's a good strategy.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Where I'm at is, I'm not even wanting to explore.
- 17:27Speaker 4: I'm like because I mean, like, what am I gonna write?
- 17:30Speaker 5: Your mom would want you to win by so it's
- 17:33Speaker 5: like here we go. She would wait if you don't
- 17:37Speaker 5: do it out of respect for your upbringing and let
- 17:40Speaker 5: your mind down by.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Losing, It's okay, sweetie, way, who would you donate to
- 17:44Speaker 2: if you won? The Western Bear Federator?
- 17:48Speaker 4: I have donated to them before? And to how do
- 17:53Speaker 4: it for them?
- 17:54Speaker 2: Think about all those bears, all that bad legislation, and
- 17:57Speaker 2: then write down a bad.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Word, and then think about you sitting.
- 18:04Speaker 8: Healthy population of bears above you.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Everybody have an answer now, Brent, It's like a level
- 18:14Speaker 2: of vulgar where I'm comfortable reading it on the podcast.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Uh so yeah, maybe use that for your judge.
- 18:20Speaker 1: My wife watches this show.
- 18:22Speaker 8: Okay, can I can I just say, like from like
- 18:24Speaker 8: a scale from one to ten on a vulgar scale,
- 18:25Speaker 8: it's like a two.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Okay, everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 18:36Speaker 5: We have Dave saying.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I'll skip Dave turtlehead. That just be a little treat
- 18:45Speaker 2: for the YouTube body. They can see Dave's answer. Brent
- 18:48Speaker 2: saying lo and behold, Phelps saying nome, Dick Hunter saying bastard,
- 18:55Speaker 2: which is that's like on the right level of thinking,
- 18:58Speaker 2: Clay saying the female name for a dog.
- 19:00Speaker 4: No, no, no, actually, any I mean it was arbitrary.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Okay, Brad saying like that, Steve saying pecker heads. Steve
- 19:10Speaker 2: got it. The correct answer is peckerhead or dog pecker mush?
- 19:15Speaker 4: Did you I was not thinking that word. There was
- 19:17Speaker 4: a joke.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Pecker Head morales are edible, but resemble some lookalikes that
- 19:23Speaker 2: are toxic. Pecker Heads smell and taste like moreles and
- 19:27Speaker 2: can be cooked in a similar fashion. They tend to
- 19:29Speaker 2: have a longer stem than morales, with the top of
- 19:32Speaker 2: the cap being connected directly to the stem. Pecker Heads
- 19:35Speaker 2: are a good indicator that you're in the right area
- 19:37Speaker 2: at the right time to find morales. Steve, So you
- 19:40Speaker 2: knew that one. Have you seen pecker heads out in
- 19:42Speaker 2: the wild? Have you ever picked them and eaten them?
- 19:45Speaker 2: You haven't? You just stay away from from peckerhead mushrooms.
- 19:48Speaker 5: Uh, I'm familiar with them, but I had them lumped
- 19:52Speaker 5: under the fallsies.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's probably that's a safe way to forage. But
- 19:56Speaker 2: if you knew what you were looking at, you could
- 19:57Speaker 2: take a pecker head.
- 19:59Speaker 5: To make a little knock.
- 20:01Speaker 2: I don't think I was.
- 20:02Speaker 1: You're like, oh, yeah, but if you knew what you
- 20:03Speaker 1: were looking.
- 20:05Speaker 5: Question four.
- 20:06Speaker 2: The topic is hunting. This is our listener question of
- 20:08Speaker 2: the Week, which was won by Andrew Washburn for setting
- 20:12Speaker 2: this great question. Andrew is going to get a board
- 20:14Speaker 2: game signed by the crew. If you want a chance
- 20:16Speaker 2: to win our listener Question of the Week, then send
- 20:18Speaker 2: your question to Trivia at the meat eater dot com.
- 20:22Speaker 2: The topic is hunting. What Greek hunter can be seen
- 20:25Speaker 2: in the night sky aiming a bow at a bowl?
- 20:31Speaker 2: Brent and Paul, they know this one. Steve looks confident
- 20:35Speaker 2: as well. What Greek hunter can be seen in the
- 20:38Speaker 2: night sky aiming a bow at a bull? Brent, you
- 20:44Speaker 2: have this one right?
- 20:45Speaker 1: If that's a toss up between two? Okay?
- 20:48Speaker 2: Are you disappointed in Clay for not having an answer yet?
- 20:50Speaker 2: I think Clay is disappointed in Clay. What Greek hunter
- 20:55Speaker 2: can be seen in the night sky aiming a bow
- 20:58Speaker 2: at a bowl?
- 21:02Speaker 4: I have no idea about how to spell what I'm
- 21:05Speaker 4: trying to say.
- 21:06Speaker 2: There's a hint. Steve is just gonna keep the perfect
- 21:09Speaker 2: game going. Do you have this one right?
- 21:11Speaker 5: I think I got her.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Okay, I didn't have any trouble spelling it, so it's
- 21:17Speaker 1: probably wrong.
- 21:19Speaker 4: That's helpful.
- 21:22Speaker 5: You guys want to buy, said man. I can't even
- 21:25Speaker 5: We were talking about AI and he goes, I can't
- 21:27Speaker 5: even barely spell AI.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Claim, Brent, you got any more hints to trade each
- 21:34Speaker 2: other here?
- 21:36Speaker 1: No, we got it. We should have. We should have
- 21:37Speaker 1: talked earlier.
- 21:40Speaker 5: Come up with your hands on check this out. Uh
- 21:45Speaker 5: my buddy, uh the blue collar scholar Tommy Hudson, He
- 21:48Speaker 5: doesn't live in a cold climate. But he was over
- 21:51Speaker 5: here in Montana and he texted me. He says, how
- 21:53Speaker 5: do you people deal with the pissars on your windshield
- 21:55Speaker 5: wipers freezing up? And I said, well, you gotta buy
- 21:59Speaker 5: really low temp fluid. He started thinking he was gonna
- 22:04Speaker 5: dump a bottle of cheap vodka in there, and he
- 22:10Speaker 5: went into the store and instead of buying like some
- 22:12Speaker 5: schmirnav or Popov or something, it occurred to him to
- 22:16Speaker 5: put some isopropa alcohol okay in there. And he swore
- 22:22Speaker 5: that that fixed the problem.
- 22:24Speaker 1: It did it?
- 22:25Speaker 2: Maybe it created another problem though.
- 22:27Speaker 5: That's what I'm waiting to hear.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Flammable, Does everybody have an answer for the Greek hunter
- 22:32Speaker 2: that can be seen in the night sky aiming a
- 22:34Speaker 2: bow at a bull. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 22:40Speaker 2: We have Dave saying Dimitri, Paul sang Oriyan, Brenton sang Nimrod, Phelps.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Sang Socrates Socrates, wrong.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Hunter sang Apollo, Clay sang Poseidon, Brad saying Zeus, Steve
- 22:58Speaker 2: sang Oriyan. The correct answer is Oriyan. We had Dave
- 23:04Speaker 2: and Steve and Paul. I'm sorry Paul and Steve, get
- 23:07Speaker 2: that one right. That was the other one you were, but.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I decided to get it because I kept thinking Orion's
- 23:16Speaker 1: belt for some reason.
- 23:20Speaker 5: What's weird is he's packing a bowl, but he's got
- 23:23Speaker 5: a sword too.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Some cultures depict him is holding a shield instead of
- 23:28Speaker 2: a bow, and then he's got a sword or a club.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I like the bow version of it.
- 23:33Speaker 5: I think he's got a fish bonker.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Oh, there you go. According to Greek mythology, Oriyan was
- 23:39Speaker 2: a legendary hunter who was banished to the sky for
- 23:42Speaker 2: boasting about how many animals he could kill. Now, he
- 23:45Speaker 2: and his two hunting dogs eternally chase Taurus the Bull,
- 23:49Speaker 2: but are never able to catch him. Oriyan can be
- 23:51Speaker 2: used for navigation in the Northern hemisphere by looking at
- 23:54Speaker 2: his belt, which roughly runs east to west. Question five,
- 23:59Speaker 2: the topic is geared what state is the Great American
- 24:03Speaker 2: outdoor show held in? That's a real give me this
- 24:09Speaker 2: will be a bone to our I don't know. Maybe
- 24:11Speaker 2: if you like own a business that makes outdoor gear,
- 24:15Speaker 2: this potentially help you state.
- 24:16Speaker 1: We shouldn't get this wrong.
- 24:19Speaker 5: A bone to the whole room.
- 24:20Speaker 4: But if you can't spell the state, don't give it.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Hit. There's a there's a little hint from Clay Brandt
- 24:26Speaker 2: has a blank board right now and a blank stare
- 24:30Speaker 2: what state is the Great American Outdoor Show held in?
- 24:34Speaker 2: This is question five?
- 24:36Speaker 5: Will think what's the greatest American state?
- 24:40Speaker 1: It's going to Arkansas.
- 24:44Speaker 4: I didn't know they had that in Arkansas.
- 24:46Speaker 5: Like, when you think of America, what state pops in
- 24:49Speaker 5: your mind?
- 24:50Speaker 2: The Great American Outdoor Show.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I'm going back with my original.
- 24:55Speaker 2: It is. Everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 25:00Speaker 2: We have Dave saying Illinois, Paul saying Pennsylvania.
- 25:03Speaker 5: Brands your eyes and think of America Massachusetts.
- 25:07Speaker 2: No, Brent's saying Massachusetts, Phelps saying Pennsylvania, Hunter, Clay Brad
- 25:15Speaker 2: and Steve saying Pennsylvania. They got it. The correct answer
- 25:19Speaker 2: is Pennsylvania. The nine day event wrapped up in early February.
- 25:23Speaker 2: The Great American Outdoor Show is the world's largest outdoor expo.
- 25:28Speaker 2: It's estimated that over two hundred thousand people attended the
- 25:31Speaker 2: event to see over one thousand exhibitors. The show has
- 25:34Speaker 2: been held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, since nineteen fifty six.
- 25:37Speaker 5: That's where I met Buck Bowden.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Oh, you guys just hit it off. There you are
- 25:43Speaker 2: today with that big old moose upstairs. Now that was
- 25:45Speaker 2: all bad. Okay, Buck doesn't get in credit for that
- 25:49Speaker 2: big old moose. How many you guys been to the
- 25:51Speaker 2: Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg. I've never been, Stevehen, Brad,
- 25:54Speaker 2: that's it. Okay, Phil, we're halfway through the game of trivia.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Give us a or board update.
- 26:01Speaker 8: Sure thing, Brent, I'm so sorry, big old goose egg.
- 26:04Speaker 8: You've yet to make.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Than a normally dude.
- 26:11Speaker 8: Jason, Dave and Brad I'll have one point apiece, Hunter,
- 26:16Speaker 8: Spencer and Clayon. You cam have two. Paul Lewis has
- 26:19Speaker 8: three and in first place with the perfect game. It's
- 26:21Speaker 8: Stephen renea.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Perfect game for Steve. Question six, the topic is fishing.
- 26:36Speaker 2: This next great question is via Dustin Bins. The furthest inland.
- 26:41Speaker 2: This fish has ever been documented in North America is
- 26:44Speaker 2: near Alton, Illinois, on the Mississippi River. The topic is fishing.
- 26:51Speaker 2: The furthest inland. This fish has ever been documented in
- 26:54Speaker 2: North America is near Alton, Illinois, on the Mississippi River.
- 27:00Speaker 4: You're looking for a lot of specificity here.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, if you think the answer is white tail deer.
- 27:04Speaker 2: You need to say white tail deer.
- 27:06Speaker 5: I would put that down.
- 27:07Speaker 4: What if we just said dear.
- 27:11Speaker 2: That would not be good enough because you need you
- 27:13Speaker 2: need to put white tail here, Paul, Stephen clay or
- 27:18Speaker 2: quick to answer, Clady, you know this one.
- 27:21Speaker 4: I'm like eighty five percent eighty.
- 27:25Speaker 2: You didn't just write down deer.
- 27:26Speaker 5: That's right, Okay, Dave, can I have that decoy right there?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Absolutely?
- 27:32Speaker 2: What's special about that one?
- 27:34Speaker 4: That's a truth.
- 27:35Speaker 5: It's nice and I like to stand.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Seven eight strut.
- 27:41Speaker 2: It's hard to walk in this room without kicking a
- 27:43Speaker 2: decoy at this point.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Hey, though, the room looks really good since the last
- 27:47Speaker 4: time I've been here.
- 27:49Speaker 5: Yeah, dude, we got a lot of work doing. Bill
- 27:51Speaker 5: want Bhil wants to paint the whole thing. Really, you
- 27:53Speaker 5: don't like the white? Me and Phil?
- 27:54Speaker 4: Yeah, white white. Yeah, it's kind of bright.
- 27:58Speaker 1: We're gonna roll it with a roller.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Okay, here's the question getting color.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Okay, suck.
- 28:05Speaker 4: It was darker, be a little warmer.
- 28:07Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm thinking like like a dark like forest green,
- 28:10Speaker 8: like a dark blue.
- 28:11Speaker 5: What I might might I'll think about having a sign
- 28:13Speaker 5: up where you can volunteer to come. It's gonna be
- 28:15Speaker 5: called paint with Stephen Film. Yeah, and HR be the
- 28:19Speaker 5: thing you sign up on an HR. But you have
- 28:22Speaker 5: to be like a sandwich. No, just come and help
- 28:25Speaker 5: take ship down, paint, hang stuff back.
- 28:27Speaker 8: Yeah, me and Me and Steve are gonna be like
- 28:28Speaker 8: Tom Sawyer.
- 28:30Speaker 4: We could do it in a half day.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Yeah, We'll be like.
- 28:32Speaker 5: I don't know, man, I don't know if I want
- 28:33Speaker 5: you painting the walls and here you'd be like, come on, dude,
- 28:35Speaker 5: let me pay.
- 28:37Speaker 4: You need a mural, Steve, a mural of what I mean,
- 28:40Speaker 4: just to something really cool. I'm a big mural guy.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Because the question one more time, This is question six.
- 28:46Speaker 2: The furthest inland this fish has ever been documented in
- 28:49Speaker 2: North America is near Alton, Illinois, on the Mississippi River.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Is everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 28:58Speaker 2: have Dave saying Atlanta salmon, Paul saying Baskins shark, Brent
- 29:04Speaker 2: saying Asian carp Phelps saying swordfish, Hunters saying channel cat,
- 29:09Speaker 2: Clay saying tiger shark, Brad saying bull shark, Steve saying
- 29:13Speaker 2: bull shark. We have a correct answer in the room.
- 29:16Speaker 2: It's bull shark. Steve and Brad. That's the bull shark
- 29:23Speaker 2: was caught about one thousand miles from the Gulf of
- 29:26Speaker 2: Mexico by two commercial fishermen in nineteen thirty seven. They
- 29:30Speaker 2: noticed their mesh nets were getting raided by a large predator,
- 29:34Speaker 2: so they built a wire trap and baited it with
- 29:36Speaker 2: chicken guts. What they expected to be a musky turned
- 29:39Speaker 2: out to be a bull shark that was five feet
- 29:41Speaker 2: long and eighty pounds. For more on this story, read
- 29:43Speaker 2: my article in the Mediator dot com called could there
- 29:45Speaker 2: actually be bull sharks in the Midwest?
- 29:49Speaker 5: Wow?
- 29:50Speaker 2: Question man.
- 29:52Speaker 5: I knew the story, but I didn't know it was
- 29:54Speaker 5: in the thirties.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Nineteen thirty seven. There's even photographic evidence. Otherwise probably we
- 30:00Speaker 2: wouldn't be verified the way it is Question seven. The
- 30:03Speaker 2: topic is hunting. What migratory bird goes by nicknames such
- 30:08Speaker 2: as tar bellies and giggle chickens? What migratory bird goes
- 30:15Speaker 2: by nicknames such as tar bellies and giggle chickens? This
- 30:18Speaker 2: is question seven. This may ruin Steve's perfect game. He
- 30:22Speaker 2: has not picked up his whiteboard yet. What migratory bird
- 30:27Speaker 2: goes by nicknames such as tar bellies and giggle chickens.
- 30:32Speaker 2: We have Brad and Dave, who appear to be confident
- 30:35Speaker 2: Hunters joining them. Now, Clay, you feel good about your answer.
- 30:40Speaker 4: I'm a little gunshot after bullshit.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Arkansas probably has all kinds of things you guys call
- 30:47Speaker 2: giggle chickens.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Be my guess most of them are relatives. It's a
- 30:53Speaker 1: good one.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Brent Man got a good game going. Have you come
- 30:58Speaker 2: up with an answer yet? Okay, Steve doesn't like what
- 31:02Speaker 2: he wrote down. This is question seven. Is everybody ready?
- 31:07Speaker 5: I'm sure I'm gonna be Steve.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Is not ready.
- 31:10Speaker 1: I'm not gonna get it.
- 31:12Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Dave saying
- 31:17Speaker 2: pacific white front speckle belly, Paul saying goose. Brent sang
- 31:21Speaker 2: speckle belly geese, Phelps without an answer, Hunter saying speckle belly,
- 31:25Speaker 2: Clay saying speckle belly goose, Brad saying white fronted goose,
- 31:29Speaker 2: Steve saying lune. The correct answer is speckle belly geese
- 31:33Speaker 2: or greater white fronted geese. The room did very well
- 31:37Speaker 2: really rubbing it into Steve. Not get that one right.
- 31:42Speaker 8: Really quick. Apologies who wrote white fronted.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Geese, Brad and Dave. They got that right. Other nicknames
- 31:50Speaker 2: for speckle bellies include specs, bar bellies, laughing geese, and
- 31:54Speaker 2: white front's. They're known for their distinctive salt and pepper
- 31:57Speaker 2: markings on their breast, as well as their high pitched
- 32:00Speaker 2: he he cackle. The only banded bird I ever shot
- 32:03Speaker 2: was a speckle belly in South Dakota, which was banded
- 32:06Speaker 2: in the Arctic Circle. Dave Smith makes tarbelly decoys, but
- 32:09Speaker 2: they're currently out of stock.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Man. We hunt them just like ducks back home. I
- 32:13Speaker 1: mean they'll work in the decoys just like ducks will.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Now, imagine if you had some Dave Smith decoys murder
- 32:20Speaker 2: that to paint them blaze, aren't they wouldn't stand a chance?
- 32:23Speaker 2: Do you guys sell a lot of speckle belly decoys?
- 32:25Speaker 2: Is that like a very very niche market or bigger
- 32:28Speaker 2: than you think?
- 32:28Speaker 6: Always saw a lot of them. Yeah, they're popular in
- 32:31Speaker 6: the South in California, but there are a lot of
- 32:34Speaker 6: late spec seasons now throughout the Midwest and in Northwest,
- 32:39Speaker 6: and a lot of guys will freelance in Canada where.
- 32:41Speaker 5: There are a lot of specs so and just.
- 32:43Speaker 6: For the record, I didn't put greater white front of goose.
- 32:46Speaker 5: Because there's also a lesser Mmmm. They're found in Europe.
- 32:49Speaker 2: You got that one, right, though, Steve. Do you feel
- 32:52Speaker 2: how do you feel about not getting that one?
- 32:54Speaker 5: Man? Like, I didn't really know what to put down?
- 32:57Speaker 2: Did you humunculus know?
- 32:58Speaker 5: No? And then but what I did know was that
- 33:00Speaker 5: these boys answered it so fast. I was like, it's
- 33:03Speaker 5: definitely something they hunt, uh huh. And then I just
- 33:06Speaker 5: kind of clammed up went.
- 33:07Speaker 2: With a lu question eight. The topic is cooking.
- 33:10Speaker 6: You're saying you thought that we hunt loons.
- 33:12Speaker 5: No, No, I knew I was wrong, And like how
- 33:15Speaker 5: cockly they answered it. I was like, it's like they're
- 33:17Speaker 5: definitely intimate. They're intimate. They're like, oh yeah, So I
- 33:22Speaker 5: knew it wasn't a lune question, not intimate with loons,
- 33:25Speaker 5: but there's just like a cockiness.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I picked up.
- 33:28Speaker 2: The topic is cooking. This next great question is via
- 33:31Speaker 2: Tony Estrata. What's the sixth letter name of the bowl
- 33:35Speaker 2: used for crushing and grinding ingredients for food and cocktails?
- 33:41Speaker 2: What's the sixth letter name of the bowl used for
- 33:45Speaker 2: crushing and grinding ingredients for food and cocktails. The room
- 33:50Speaker 2: looks very confident. We will get a scoreboard update from
- 33:55Speaker 2: Filled the engineer after this. This is question eight. Tron Phelps.
- 34:02Speaker 5: There's it's very clearly explained, but I don't know if
- 34:06Speaker 5: I knew which ones which.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Now, Okay, he's encountered potential trick.
- 34:13Speaker 5: Just helped me, so I don't. It's like like I
- 34:21Speaker 5: was saying it. If you're saying something you know it
- 34:25Speaker 5: or else you can't say it. I was gonna be
- 34:28Speaker 5: saying it. I feel like it was dug out of
- 34:30Speaker 5: me there.
- 34:32Speaker 2: We waterboarded, Jason.
- 34:34Speaker 5: I felt like I was call I was thinking what
- 34:37Speaker 5: you just said, Like.
- 34:38Speaker 4: No, probably switched mine and got it wrong, I hope.
- 34:41Speaker 2: So yeah, for the record, Clay did change his answer.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I did.
- 34:46Speaker 2: On what Jason said.
- 34:48Speaker 5: I feel like I could get out of this in court.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Is the question again? What what's the sixth letter name
- 34:55Speaker 2: of the bowl used for crushing and grinding and green?
- 34:58Speaker 4: I think you've got anything to be afraid of losing
- 35:00Speaker 4: this game?
- 35:01Speaker 2: Is it is? Everybody ready? I think you're closer than anything. Clay,
- 35:06Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answer. We have Dave saying
- 35:12Speaker 2: COLEMI Paul saying pestle, Brent saying pestel, Phelps saying pestel,
- 35:19Speaker 2: Hunter saying mortar, Clay saying mortar, Brad without an answer,
- 35:23Speaker 2: Steve saying mortar. The correct answer is mortar. I'm going
- 35:29Speaker 2: to have to is that? Is that how you spell that? Indeed,
- 35:34Speaker 2: I've I've never heard of that.
- 35:35Speaker 1: That's that's for Spanish speakers.
- 35:37Speaker 5: But also you see it used when I google your
- 35:41Speaker 5: big old batch of guacamole. You're not using a mortar
- 35:43Speaker 5: and pestle using the same thing. But it's a com is.
- 35:46Speaker 2: It a camille? No, you're gonna have the point, Dave.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I'm not that passion. My goo is yielding nothing we have.
- 35:56Speaker 1: On at our house.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know how I spell it. The pestle
- 36:01Speaker 2: is the grinding club, while the mortar is the bowl.
- 36:04Speaker 2: The oldest known pestle and mortar was found in Southwest Asia,
- 36:07Speaker 2: dates back to thirty five thousand BC. Most early examples
- 36:11Speaker 2: are small and handheld, but some versions that date back
- 36:14Speaker 2: to ten thousand BC are big enough for a person
- 36:17Speaker 2: to stand inside of. One of those large mortars from
- 36:20Speaker 2: a cave in Israel is believed to be a spot
- 36:22Speaker 2: where humans crushed cereal grains to brew beer. Phil, we
- 36:26Speaker 2: have two questions left. Give us a leader board update.
- 36:30Speaker 8: I'll just cut to the chase and say that Stephen
- 36:32Speaker 8: Rinella is the winner.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Two questions left.
- 36:40Speaker 8: We're gonna side schedule here, but yeah, we've got yeah,
- 36:43Speaker 8: the next person back. Clay and Hunter have four points apiece.
- 36:46Speaker 8: They're in second place.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Battlegrounds over here.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Question nine, The topic is natural history. This history. This
- 36:52Speaker 2: next great question is via Nate Parcel. This Native American tribe,
- 36:57Speaker 2: which is part of the Iroquoi nation, has a hairstyle
- 37:01Speaker 2: named after it. Question nine, topic is natural history. We
- 37:08Speaker 2: have a confident looking room. This Native American tribe, which
- 37:12Speaker 2: is part of the ero Coi nation, has a hairstyle
- 37:15Speaker 2: named after it. Phelps you have this one right?
- 37:19Speaker 4: No, I was gonna I was going for the joke,
- 37:21Speaker 4: just real quick, and then realize I probably might.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Know the answer.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Okay, Clay, you know this one.
- 37:27Speaker 4: I mean I think so, Okay, I really lost my confidence.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Came in here talking about your great percentage of wins,
- 37:37Speaker 2: and you let Steve take the victory with two questions.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Well, I don't think I've ever beat Steve maybe once. Wow,
- 37:44Speaker 4: But when he's not here. I think that's when I
- 37:46Speaker 4: show up.
- 37:47Speaker 2: All right, here's the question one more time. This Native
- 37:51Speaker 2: American tribe, which is part of the ero Coi nation,
- 37:53Speaker 2: has a hairstyle named after it. Is everybody ready, go
- 37:57Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Dave saying mohawk,
- 38:01Speaker 2: Paul saying mohawk. The entire room said mohawks. The entire
- 38:06Speaker 2: room got it right. The correct answer is mohawk. Phelps
- 38:09Speaker 2: erased mullet. That was the joke.
- 38:11Speaker 1: He was going.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Mullet with mohawk. At the time of European contact, the Mohawk.
- 38:19Speaker 2: The Mohawk tribe was present in Vermont, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Quebec,
- 38:24Speaker 2: and Ontario. They were the easternmost part of the Iroquois Confederacy.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Some historians say the mohawk haircut was an attempt by
- 38:32Speaker 2: warriors to make their scalps a more attractive target for
- 38:35Speaker 2: their enemies than those of the women and children.
- 38:39Speaker 5: Wow.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Question ten. The topic is wildlife. What Arizona diamondback pitcher
- 38:46Speaker 2: killed a dove with a fastball during a two thousand
- 38:50Speaker 2: and one spring training game. Phelps and Brent are very
- 38:54Speaker 2: confident hunter's very confident Steve has rolled his marker across
- 38:58Speaker 2: the table. Can't come up with a sports ball player.
- 39:01Speaker 2: It's a great video, though, you might just see it.
- 39:05Speaker 4: What what state?
- 39:06Speaker 2: What Arizona diamondback pitcher killed a dove with a fastball
- 39:11Speaker 2: during a two thousand and one spring training game.
- 39:15Speaker 1: That thing just obliterated. Who was that guy?
- 39:23Speaker 6: Dave Smith?
- 39:25Speaker 2: Yeah, there's forty two thousand of them to choose from,
- 39:31Speaker 2: waiting on Steve to come up with an answer. Clay,
- 39:33Speaker 2: you got this one right?
- 39:34Speaker 4: No, not even close. I just put my favorite picture.
- 39:37Speaker 2: Oh, it's one way to play. Go ahead and reveal
- 39:41Speaker 2: your answers. We have Dave saying Randy Johnson, Paul without
- 39:44Speaker 2: an answer, Brent and Phelps and Hunter sang Randy Johnson,
- 39:48Speaker 2: Clay saying Nolan, Ryan Brad saying Randy Johnson, Steve saying
- 39:53Speaker 2: James Smith, most popular name in America. The correct answer
- 39:57Speaker 2: is Randy Johnson, the Big Unit. Play the video, Phil,
- 40:03Speaker 2: did you get right?
- 40:05Speaker 1: I have probably nicknamed though.
- 40:10Speaker 2: I love that the crowd even what were the odds?
- 40:12Speaker 1: Man?
- 40:13Speaker 5: Well, you could probably figure it out. You have to
- 40:14Speaker 5: figure out how many pitches have ever been thrown and
- 40:16Speaker 5: then put a one in front of that number with
- 40:19Speaker 5: a colon.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Johnson was delivering a pitch to home plate when the
- 40:24Speaker 2: dove flew in the path of his fastball. The catcher
- 40:26Speaker 2: described the scene as quote an explosion. The pitch didn't count,
- 40:30Speaker 2: and it's estimated the ball was traveling at one hundred
- 40:33Speaker 2: miles per hour when it struck the bird. A similar
- 40:35Speaker 2: event happened during a Yankees game in Toronto in nineteen
- 40:39Speaker 2: eighty three, when Dave Winfield killed the seagull with a
- 40:42Speaker 2: warm up throw. Winfield was initially charged by Toronto police
- 40:46Speaker 2: with animal cruelty, but the case was later dropped. Maybe
- 40:51Speaker 2: they thought he was doing it on purpose. I don't know.
- 40:52Speaker 2: You can't just go out winging fastballs at seagulls on
- 40:56Speaker 2: the beach.
- 40:56Speaker 5: So you know. I met Brian Gumbel a long time ago. Oh,
- 41:00Speaker 5: he was telling me how he killed a goose of
- 41:02Speaker 5: the golf ball.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Wow, by accident.
- 41:05Speaker 4: One of my most.
- 41:08Speaker 5: No he killed like a goose or a seagull with
- 41:09Speaker 5: a golf ball. Golf course.
- 41:12Speaker 4: One of my most vivid childhood memories. I was on
- 41:14Speaker 4: the first grade playground and the second grade playground was
- 41:17Speaker 4: over here, separated by like a ditch and I picked
- 41:20Speaker 4: up a rock and just chunk this rock into this
- 41:23Speaker 4: empty field. There wasn't a child within like fifty yards,
- 41:27Speaker 4: and the rock just arches through the air and I
- 41:30Speaker 4: see this kid just running. It was like slow motion
- 41:33Speaker 4: and he like bam, hits him in the head. Kid
- 41:36Speaker 4: goes down.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Did you fess up?
- 41:39Speaker 4: Nobody crying? Nobody asked yeah, if there was a I'm sorry,
- 41:46Speaker 4: man's out there.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Uh. Clay was nervous to write down pecker Head on
- 41:51Speaker 2: his white board.
- 41:53Speaker 4: Stony and child, I mean, we're all full of hypocrisy?
- 41:59Speaker 2: Was our winner? What eight points?
- 42:01Speaker 5: Steve?
- 42:02Speaker 2: Yeah, eight points, well done, Steve Clay and Hunter couldn't
- 42:06Speaker 2: catch him. What happens now is you get to choose
- 42:08Speaker 2: where the five hundred dollars donation from meat Eater goes.
- 42:10Speaker 2: What's it gonna be for this round?
- 42:13Speaker 5: I'm trying to think of if I did l a
- 42:16Speaker 5: I last time I was down here, or if I
- 42:18Speaker 5: did TRCP.
- 42:21Speaker 2: I was gonna say, you did NWTF recently?
- 42:23Speaker 4: Maybe, Hey, what about turkeys for tomorrow?
- 42:27Speaker 1: Well, here's what I'm gonna do.
- 42:31Speaker 5: I'm gonna go I'm gonna do Theodore Roosevelt Conservation partnership
- 42:34Speaker 5: guaranteeing Americans quality places the hunt and fish.
- 42:37Speaker 1: That's where I'm.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Going five hundred dollars going TRCP from Steve Vanella and
- 42:43Speaker 2: Meat Eater with his eight correct answers. Brad, Dave, thanks
- 42:47Speaker 2: for coming and playing. Was was it as bad as

- 42:49Speaker 1: Dave? Yep?
- 42:50Speaker 2: Okay, he's never gonna play again. This is your one
- 42:54Speaker 2: opportunity to hear one of the forty two thousand Dave
- 42:57Speaker 2: Smith play Meat Eater trivia.
- 42:59Speaker 5: Brad, how about you?
- 43:00Speaker 6: Well, what was the final tally?
- 43:02Speaker 2: You'd have to ask Phil the engineer. Steve win with it, you.
- 43:05Speaker 8: Know, I you know what, I didn't even mark down
- 43:07Speaker 8: the Randy Johnson one because Steve won the game already.
- 43:10Speaker 8: So well did you get Randy Johnson?
- 43:12Speaker 5: Brad?
- 43:12Speaker 8: I did? Then you got five points?
- 43:14Speaker 1: Oh?
- 43:14Speaker 2: Well done, Brad?
- 43:16Speaker 5: What place did I get?
- 43:18Speaker 8: Honestly, you were like tied for second or third?
- 43:20Speaker 2: Okay?
- 43:21Speaker 8: Yeah, there you get place?
- 43:24Speaker 5: And what kind of hung in there a little bit?
- 43:27Speaker 2: Well maybe we'll let you and Dave and Brad team
- 43:29Speaker 2: up next time and guys can see Steve, have you
- 43:31Speaker 2: ever been defeated?
- 43:33Speaker 1: Oh?
- 43:34Speaker 2: Many times it happens.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'm like.
- 43:37Speaker 6: Yeah, we're supposed to say no, and then I could
- 43:40Speaker 6: say I almost had him.
- 43:42Speaker 5: I lose a lot.
- 43:43Speaker 1: I lose a lot.
- 43:45Speaker 5: There's a handful of people that beat me a lot,
- 43:47Speaker 5: and those are their names are Randall and Brody.
- 43:51Speaker 2: When you tell the story, though, Brad, you can just tell, yeah,
- 43:54Speaker 2: Steve has never lost before.
