- 0:28Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Strange is holding the zone if we can
- 0:34Speaker 1: get Thornton in there. It's a pretty good draft. Class
- 0:37Speaker 1: played a games. You nailed them off. Cold Strange isn't
- 0:43Speaker 1: there yet. You know what they peaked at, like a
- 0:48Speaker 1: thirty six, you know, because it was a good game.
- 0:50Speaker 1: It's like me picked to thirty six. Yeah, sorry, I
- 0:52Speaker 1: got a sneeze brunt. He was covered up. I was
- 0:56Speaker 1: so far away, Mike, I don't really know. Well I had.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I was zeroed in on what's going on. This is
- 1:02Speaker 1: the beauty of me. I can argue anything. I just
- 1:04Speaker 1: think that there's some risk involved if you want to
- 1:07Speaker 1: turn it over to if you want to turn it
- 1:10Speaker 1: over to uh mac Jones. I think I had a
- 1:12Speaker 1: seizure in the middle of that sense I kind of
- 1:14Speaker 1: forgot what I was even talking about in the middle,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and I was just like, oh, I'm back now. I
- 1:17Speaker 1: think Fred is right. You can't just automatically say and
- 1:19Speaker 1: I don't automatically say Paul being more optimistic. Boy, things
- 1:23Speaker 1: have changed this show. Huh. This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled
- 1:28Speaker 1: by Duncan. All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is
- 1:33Speaker 1: Wednesday here at Gillette Stadium. Aduced When you have a
- 1:36Speaker 1: sneeze bruin, does it come out black and gold? Oh?
- 1:39Speaker 1: My god, the only one. I'm really sick. But why
- 1:42Speaker 1: you said you had a sneeze bruin like the Bruins?
- 1:45Speaker 1: I got it. Took me a second there, a little
- 1:46Speaker 1: slow on the uptake care of hockey guy. I guess
- 1:49Speaker 1: play that, Hey, Matt play Oh please sing again please,
- 1:54Speaker 1: World's Original podcast. That was a surprise. I love that
- 1:59Speaker 1: the world look at that. I love it. I love
- 2:04Speaker 1: it running. It's so soothing, It's so soothing saying that.
- 2:10Speaker 1: That's it was Jill, Yeah, what's her face? Back from practice?
- 2:15Speaker 1: All recognized the voice. I'm glad I'm familiar with some
- 2:18Speaker 1: of her other work. We have classic hits like do
- 2:21Speaker 1: we have perpetual worldwide rights to that from her. I
- 2:25Speaker 1: want to make sure that you know sending the permission. Jill, Yeah,
- 2:29Speaker 1: all right. I want to thank you. I want to
- 2:32Speaker 1: from listening to the open there. I want to thank
- 2:34Speaker 1: you for pointing out that I was the most optimistic one. Yes, sure, yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 1: because I so offered get beat up for the other way.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I like it. It's so shocking I had to say something. Yeah. Yeah,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I'm higher on the team than you want. It's Deuce,
- 2:47Speaker 1: it's Alex, it's Paul, it's Fred and Matt in the
- 2:50Speaker 1: booth today going until two o'clock. And uh, you want
- 2:54Speaker 1: to hang around after today's show because we're debuting The
- 2:58Speaker 1: Catch twenty two with Evan Lazarre and Alex Barth's show
- 3:02Speaker 1: right after this one, So you're gonna want to stay
- 3:04Speaker 1: tuned for that. That's gonna be great every Wednesday, two
- 3:07Speaker 1: to three every Wednesday. Yeah. And we told him too.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I was like, three, if you're going a little long,
- 3:12Speaker 1: it's okay, yeah, you know, like it's a it's a
- 3:13Speaker 1: loose three. It's okay. There's no one I would bank
- 3:16Speaker 1: on two hours easily. There's no one up behind you.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So you're gonna pull them out to get to the
- 3:20Speaker 1: locker room, but otherwise that they're just gonna go gl
- 3:22Speaker 1: just gave me a dirty look. Don't ever say that again, Stott. Sorry, bro. Well,
- 3:30Speaker 1: let's let's get into some of the information that Bill
- 3:33Speaker 1: just gave us. And for those of you who are
- 3:37Speaker 1: just turning in, tuning in, Bill just did his press conference,
- 3:41Speaker 1: and um, they're going inside today into the bubble and
- 3:45Speaker 1: Mike resasses at a virtue of you know, having played
- 3:49Speaker 1: an overtime game, maybe you know, dialing things back a
- 3:52Speaker 1: little bit. Um, what do you think get ready? I mean,
- 3:56Speaker 1: it is talking about this a lot this afternoon about
- 3:59Speaker 1: yeah it is raining soft. Yeah, but I go inside
- 4:03Speaker 1: afraid of the rain. Now. I mean, I'm not gonna
- 4:05Speaker 1: lie and say I didn't, you know, notice it and
- 4:07Speaker 1: find it interesting at all. But I don't really know why,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and I don't think it's a huge deal. Do you
- 4:14Speaker 1: maybe not to get the red jerseys? All? Are they
- 4:16Speaker 1: wearing red jerseys today? I don't practice I think the helmets,
- 4:20Speaker 1: But that's a good question. How to practice jerseys red?
- 4:22Speaker 1: And yeah, that's an interesting question. I'm not sure. I
- 4:24Speaker 1: don't know, but I guess we'll find out when Evan
- 4:26Speaker 1: comes back from practice. That's right. I mean, I get
- 4:29Speaker 1: Mike's point about the overtime. Maybe you're trying to lighten
- 4:32Speaker 1: the load, but I don't know why you have to
- 4:33Speaker 1: go inside to lighten the load, right, do you know
- 4:36Speaker 1: what I'm saying? And I and I get Mike's point,
- 4:38Speaker 1: Like they did play a long game. They played you know,
- 4:40Speaker 1: you know, almost another full ten minutes. But I would think,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I guess if it's if it's just a walk through,
- 4:48Speaker 1: you know, there's no sense in doing that outdoors when
- 4:50Speaker 1: it's bad weather because you're not like battling the elements
- 4:54Speaker 1: and running plays and getting in that, I would think,
- 4:57Speaker 1: and we'll we'll find out shortly because someone just walked
- 5:00Speaker 1: into these I think he's in it. He's he's in
- 5:01Speaker 1: the in between in between. He hasn't even gone out
- 5:04Speaker 1: there yet. I just like, sometimes I think that there's
- 5:08Speaker 1: a time to practice in elements, to like test your
- 5:11Speaker 1: team or to you know, But there's also times I
- 5:13Speaker 1: feel like where it's you know, the weather's going to
- 5:15Speaker 1: be fine here this weekend, and it just feels maybe
- 5:17Speaker 1: counterproductive that you have guys dealing with like whether you
- 5:20Speaker 1: like I don't want to deal with the weather. Let's
- 5:21Speaker 1: just get inside work on what we got to work
- 5:23Speaker 1: on and not have every right it's right what we're doing. Yeah,
- 5:27Speaker 1: that's why I like your theory. Yeah, because I do
- 5:29Speaker 1: think that communications sometimes in bad weather it can be
- 5:32Speaker 1: a little bit challenging. And if you're just doing a walkthrough,
- 5:35Speaker 1: if they were having a full blown, full padded practice,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I would say, well, why, I mean it's raining, Yeah,
- 5:42Speaker 1: like sometimes you have to play in the rain, right,
- 5:44Speaker 1: But I think if you're if it is that, is
- 5:46Speaker 1: that the Is that like a fact, like it's just
- 5:49Speaker 1: a walkthrough. I know that Mike could mention that, but
- 5:52Speaker 1: is that like out there, I don't know. I mean,
- 5:54Speaker 1: if it's just going to be a walk through when
- 5:56Speaker 1: it's more informational, I'm with I think Fred has a
- 5:58Speaker 1: great point. I I think it's easier to sort of
- 6:01Speaker 1: get everybody on the same page and talk about things
- 6:03Speaker 1: at a lower tempo. Yeah, when you can sort everybody's
- 6:08Speaker 1: on the same page, and it's easier to do that
- 6:09Speaker 1: outside of the elements. If the elements are bad dangerous Yeah, sorry, yeah, Okay,
- 6:16Speaker 1: my headphones are weird today and I don't know what's
- 6:18Speaker 1: up anybody volume. I was just gonna say, probably focus
- 6:20Speaker 1: more because if it was raining outside, all I would
- 6:23Speaker 1: be thinking about is how much it sucks to be
- 6:25Speaker 1: out there. That's why you'll never be in the NFL.
- 6:27Speaker 1: So it's not going to be signed to the practice
- 6:29Speaker 1: squad anytime soon. Besides ten pounds, that's why you'll never
- 6:33Speaker 1: be in the NFL. She just standing in their arms
- 6:35Speaker 1: folded like this is reds in her pocket. One ten please.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I don't know. I was available to be the emergency
- 6:42Speaker 1: backup if we needed it, were it was you, it
- 6:45Speaker 1: was either Alex or Garret Gilbert. They went with Garret
- 6:49Speaker 1: Gilbert then, so maybe next time, I guess available. I
- 6:52Speaker 1: guess he was more available than me. That stability is availability,
- 6:55Speaker 1: that's that's the saying. That's the same. But it's also
- 6:57Speaker 1: too you might you probably don't want Mac to slip
- 6:59Speaker 1: on the wet, right. You gotta keep that ankle stable
- 7:02Speaker 1: if you're getting him out there again. Okay, well, if
- 7:04Speaker 1: serious question. I know Phil asked him about it, which
- 7:06Speaker 1: I kind of like, like like Philithy, I was like, well,
- 7:08Speaker 1: what's the point of that. Like's not a participant, He's
- 7:10Speaker 1: just kind of standing there like I like it didn't
- 7:12Speaker 1: answer to be funny if Bill said we just wanted
- 7:14Speaker 1: to troll you guys. Yeah, but like if is he
- 7:17Speaker 1: gonna be like you better? Like you probably should be
- 7:19Speaker 1: here today right too, Like if you're gonna come Friday,
- 7:21Speaker 1: Like why would he not come today? Like you should
- 7:23Speaker 1: be out there right right. I'm thinking it has more
- 7:25Speaker 1: to do with Mac. Yeah, I still like I told
- 7:29Speaker 1: you I kind of transition does that week went on
- 7:32Speaker 1: last week? I think Mac is like he wants Tory
- 7:34Speaker 1: to show everybody, you know, I'm later, I'm tough, I
- 7:37Speaker 1: can do this. Yeah. I just think it's unrealistic that
- 7:41Speaker 1: he can physically. Sometimes it doesn't matter how tough you are.
- 7:45Speaker 1: You know, you just can't play if you're not physically
- 7:48Speaker 1: able to play. And I think that's the situation where
- 7:50Speaker 1: we're in right now with him. I think it's gonna
- 7:52Speaker 1: be ZAPPI. Yeah. My impression of the high ankle sprain though,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and this probably goes back to Gronk in twenty eleven,
- 7:57Speaker 1: was like it's not like overly painful immediately, but like
- 8:00Speaker 1: you just have no push, you have no kind of
- 8:03Speaker 1: strength out of your lower leg. And I mean maybe
- 8:06Speaker 1: someone who's experienced one could tell clarify that I know
- 8:09Speaker 1: that there's all different kinds and degrees and stuff, but um,
- 8:12Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm just interested. Like Kenny ways, Gronk's
- 8:15Speaker 1: pretty severe. I don't know if that means pretty severe,
- 8:19Speaker 1: very severe, somewhat severe, somewhat severe, somewhat severe kind of
- 8:25Speaker 1: I don't know. I do wonder if this is they're
- 8:28Speaker 1: gonna have to save Mack from himself at some point. Well,
- 8:31Speaker 1: I would also say that, you know, we all saw
- 8:35Speaker 1: a Gronk play in that Super Bowl when he couldn't move,
- 8:37Speaker 1: like it was almost useless to have him out there.
- 8:40Speaker 1: He was just serving as a decoy. You remember, famously,
- 8:43Speaker 1: on those videos that come out after the fact when
- 8:47Speaker 1: they're all you know, sound effects or whatever the NFL
- 8:50Speaker 1: sound the Giants were all saying it, like, you know,
- 8:53Speaker 1: eighty seven's just a decoy. He can't he can't get
- 8:56Speaker 1: out into his routes. But to me, at least he
- 9:00Speaker 1: move around a little bit, and he didn't need to
- 9:03Speaker 1: be quick because you're not avoiding a hit. I worry
- 9:06Speaker 1: that if mac Jones is playing and he can't move
- 9:08Speaker 1: like Grunt couldn't move in the Super Bowl. Now, he's
- 9:10Speaker 1: a sitting duck in the pocket. Yeah, and you're exposing
- 9:14Speaker 1: yourself a little bit more. Really, That's what my concern
- 9:17Speaker 1: would be. If I were Belichick, I would try to
- 9:19Speaker 1: protect him from himself. Yeah, yeah, he needs to be
- 9:22Speaker 1: mobile in the pocket, you know, or else. You know,
- 9:25Speaker 1: if I'm you know, Bill even said it, the Lions
- 9:28Speaker 1: are an aggressive team, I'd send everybody and you know,
- 9:31Speaker 1: knock him out of the game. I mean, when you
- 9:32Speaker 1: have a hard time playing defense the way the Lions are,
- 9:35Speaker 1: I would think that you you sort of take a
- 9:38Speaker 1: step back and say, we got to try to make
- 9:40Speaker 1: some plays because we're not going to come up with stops.
- 9:42Speaker 1: We're not going to come up with three straight plays
- 9:43Speaker 1: to force punts. But maybe we can send a blitz
- 9:46Speaker 1: off the backside and cause a fumble. Ye, you know,
- 9:49Speaker 1: we're gonna give up thirty five anyway, we're averaging thirty
- 9:52Speaker 1: thirty five and change allowed. But maybe I can slow
- 9:55Speaker 1: him down. That seems like them, right, that's like what
- 9:58Speaker 1: they do. But wouldn't you do act like that? I
- 10:00Speaker 1: mean there's two ways to go about it. You could
- 10:02Speaker 1: sit there and say, well, we have to dial it
- 10:04Speaker 1: back and get everybody back and make it. Well, that
- 10:07Speaker 1: doesn't really because you're not going to stop anybody doing
- 10:09Speaker 1: that if you if you don't have the personnel. Yeah,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I mean when you do the same thing with Zappy
- 10:13Speaker 1: anyway too, Like just go get them I would. Yeah,
- 10:16Speaker 1: oh yeah, you test them. Tamara is joining us now, wow,
- 10:20Speaker 1: we got our whole team back. Yeah. She's very red. Yeah. Yeah,
- 10:24Speaker 1: she's wearing red all this week. She's nice. It's been hard.
- 10:28Speaker 1: And that's a shiny red that's like Paul's disco shirt. Yeah. Yeah,
- 10:31Speaker 1: every once in a while, Paul brings out his disco
- 10:34Speaker 1: disco shirt. You think do you think this is a
- 10:36Speaker 1: disco shirt? Is looking like Paul has ascot? Wait to
- 10:40Speaker 1: see what I'm wearing on Sunday. It's like an actual
- 10:42Speaker 1: disco shirt. All right? Oh is it like shiny? It
- 10:45Speaker 1: is shiny? Is it the Jordan? Do you have your
- 10:48Speaker 1: your shiny sneakers today? No? Did you see those outs
- 10:53Speaker 1: them like the rhinestone sneakers? Oh yeah, and photos I've
- 10:57Speaker 1: seen it in the thing. Yeah, Tamara. I start talking
- 11:01Speaker 1: about our outfits for the game week like two weeks
- 11:03Speaker 1: in advanced Yes, you have to not not the least
- 11:06Speaker 1: of which is that the three of us female journalism
- 11:09Speaker 1: back like decades. But what are you wearing? Listen? I
- 11:14Speaker 1: think that even the modern male, I mean what you're
- 11:18Speaker 1: wearing is important. I mean my son, you know, he's no, no, no,
- 11:24Speaker 1: I'm talking about the my son's twenty seven. These players,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I mean, what they wear counts. They're they're putting a
- 11:32Speaker 1: lot of thought into it. You will be turning into
- 11:34Speaker 1: a meme if you're wearing something crazy. That's the thing
- 11:37Speaker 1: they want to be. Yeah. When I was twenty, you know,
- 11:40Speaker 1: twenty five, I thought about what I see I did.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I did not did well. I thought I don't want
- 11:45Speaker 1: it all the wrong ways and picked all the wrong things.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Well yeah, looking back at it, like at the time though,
- 11:50Speaker 1: but you didn't wear things that you know, we're like
- 11:52Speaker 1: out of fashion. You cared about what you wore well
- 11:56Speaker 1: kind of, But sometimes I'm like, oh, what's I give
- 11:58Speaker 1: you too much credit? You're the guy. Know you came
- 12:01Speaker 1: from Hollywood. I thought you might have a clo. No
- 12:03Speaker 1: I tried. I mean that was a process out there,
- 12:05Speaker 1: but you know, like rawdy T shirt, like I wore
- 12:07Speaker 1: things that I was hoping would come back into fashion. Yeah,
- 12:10Speaker 1: I was nothing seems to fit you when you're in
- 12:12Speaker 1: your twenties. I feel like maybe kids are better now,
- 12:14Speaker 1: But I just look back and I'm like everything's way
- 12:16Speaker 1: too baggy and not like there's nothing that was good
- 12:18Speaker 1: for me, you know, for obvious reasons. I didn't want
- 12:20Speaker 1: to learn anything too touch were I was skinny the
- 12:23Speaker 1: yeah yeah back in the day. Yeah, but I was
- 12:25Speaker 1: going to contrast like them talking about which I imagine
- 12:28Speaker 1: is a similar thing for you and me when you're
- 12:30Speaker 1: getting ready to go in for the pregame show and
- 12:32Speaker 1: I'm like that polo, that polo or that or that
- 12:35Speaker 1: quarters zip, Like that's just for the TV show. I always,
- 12:39Speaker 1: you know, it's whatever Patriots share is like the first
- 12:42Speaker 1: one on the hang even fair, but the Sunday shows,
- 12:46Speaker 1: I just like, you gotta yeah, I don't. I don't.
- 12:49Speaker 1: But every now and then you get a new quarter zip,
- 12:51Speaker 1: you little pop in your step. You're excited to, you know,
- 12:53Speaker 1: wear your new quarter like that's how but it's nothing exciting.
- 12:56Speaker 1: This week just felt really special because I feel like
- 12:58Speaker 1: I had to wear red every day, had to, okay,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and this is the week where the Patriots are going
- 13:06Speaker 1: to be wearing their throwback jerseys, Um, you know, with
- 13:09Speaker 1: a little bit of a change in some of the striping,
- 13:12Speaker 1: but I think it looks really nice. What I really changes, Well,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I think that on the shoulder it's a little bit
- 13:19Speaker 1: different than what you remember in the seventies. Oh it's
- 13:22Speaker 1: definitely not the seventies. Yeah, yeah, they never wear those, right, Um,
- 13:25Speaker 1: I think it's not a conspiracy to get me. But
- 13:28Speaker 1: but I love the one. I'd love to see these
- 13:30Speaker 1: jerseys with the white helmet but the current logo on it.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I think that would be sharp. I think it should
- 13:36Speaker 1: all be on the table and creative mix. If you
- 13:38Speaker 1: did that, I feel like you just have to bring
- 13:40Speaker 1: it back forever exactly that that's your universe, kind of
- 13:43Speaker 1: meld it all together, past present, yeah, future. I like it. Yeah. Anyways,
- 13:48Speaker 1: and they'll be wearing the white pants too this week,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I think so. Yeah. I think white pants, white helmet, Yeah,
- 13:54Speaker 1: red face masks, red jerseys. Can't lose. Can't lose with
- 13:57Speaker 1: that outfit, right, That's what I said about the Bengali,
- 14:01Speaker 1: about the Bengals and they want Yeah, like you, you
- 14:04Speaker 1: just can't lose when you're wearing things like that. You
- 14:06Speaker 1: can't look good, play good. Yeah, look good, pod good.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Not for us my childhood. I'm like, you know, we
- 14:14Speaker 1: also knows everywhere and sitting in the stands watching the game.
- 14:19Speaker 1: But every guys were you guys were sponsored before anybody?
- 14:23Speaker 1: Right did sponsored? Yeah? Didn't you have sponsored teams? No?
- 14:28Speaker 1: When I played? Yeah? No sponsored uniforms, Yeah you didn't
- 14:32Speaker 1: have that, they didn't. You can get them paid for then?
- 14:36Speaker 1: No back. I mean I think with salth FISA right
- 14:39Speaker 1: sales piece, Like the uniforms have been in the school
- 14:41Speaker 1: for the last like eight ten years. Oh yeah, I
- 14:43Speaker 1: mean you just don't even I mean equipment, the helmets,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I mean it was all super old and now it's
- 14:49Speaker 1: like everybody's got under armor and the name plates on
- 14:52Speaker 1: the back. I graduated high school and my high school
- 14:55Speaker 1: signed with Nike, like right after I was like, are
- 14:57Speaker 1: you kidding me? What colors are your high school? And white? Yeah?
- 15:00Speaker 1: That's pretty good. My problem is at holy Cross is
- 15:03Speaker 1: like what am I doing all this purple stuff? Like
- 15:05Speaker 1: you get out and I'm like, oh, I got a
- 15:06Speaker 1: like seven full purple wind suits, Like where am I
- 15:09Speaker 1: ever going to wear those? That? My school colors were teal,
- 15:11Speaker 1: purple and white. Oh? Nothing, You're never, never wearing it
- 15:14Speaker 1: again or nothing, like I carried my stuff to college
- 15:17Speaker 1: with me. Just cover them around. Well, that's like myron
- 15:20Speaker 1: will work right, like Red and Black. Well, I'll grace
- 15:23Speaker 1: all of you by wearing my purple singlet one of
- 15:25Speaker 1: these days. Single and he's you got you got to
- 15:31Speaker 1: wear that one of these days. He's lurking in the
- 15:35Speaker 1: background out he's blocking all light with his head. Yeah
- 15:40Speaker 1: all right, So how are we feeling going into this game?
- 15:43Speaker 1: I still feel pretty good. I know you will make
- 15:45Speaker 1: it fun of me yesterday, but I'm okay with that.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I still feel pretty good about being able to score
- 15:49Speaker 1: at some points against this terrible defense, no matter who
- 15:53Speaker 1: the quarterback is. I feel obviously less excited about Zappy
- 15:57Speaker 1: if he has to play, But I mean, in this
- 15:59Speaker 1: would it is you you deal with. They'll have the
- 16:01Speaker 1: whole week to prepare, and yeah, I think they should
- 16:06Speaker 1: be able to put some points on the board. I
- 16:08Speaker 1: figured about, like our running game right now, going into
- 16:12Speaker 1: a defense that is not great against the run. I
- 16:15Speaker 1: think it's got to be those guys, you know. But
- 16:16Speaker 1: I just feel a weird sense of just uncertainty and
- 16:21Speaker 1: not not right. Not that I don't believe that the
- 16:23Speaker 1: Patriots can win this game. But I just there's so
- 16:25Speaker 1: many interesting little aspects of this game, of the Lions
- 16:28Speaker 1: kind of being one of those trashy franchises, you know.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I mean, Maddy p has got to want to win
- 16:33Speaker 1: this game more than anything in his life. I'm sure
- 16:35Speaker 1: he's probably hasn't left the building yet, you don't know.
- 16:38Speaker 1: With the rookie quarterback, and in some ways, it feels
- 16:40Speaker 1: like a Madden game where you're like, I'm gonna like
- 16:42Speaker 1: up the difficulty, but I'm gonna play with my third
- 16:44Speaker 1: string court. Like it just feels like so many weird
- 16:46Speaker 1: factors in this game that I don't really know what
- 16:48Speaker 1: to expect, and I think it's going to be crazy.
- 16:49Speaker 1: But it's like Alex you said, you know, like the
- 16:51Speaker 1: way the Patriots have run the ball, and we've made
- 16:53Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of the fact that Detroit
- 16:56Speaker 1: averages six yards to carry running the ball. Won't they
- 16:59Speaker 1: allow five point six? Like you can run it and
- 17:03Speaker 1: that can keep the score down too, you know what
- 17:05Speaker 1: I mean. Like if you think a Dan Campbell team
- 17:08Speaker 1: is so bad at defense because he's not a good
- 17:10Speaker 1: go no, no, no, but but you would think that
- 17:13Speaker 1: if there's anything that would be good on a team
- 17:15Speaker 1: he coaches, it would be defense, because you know, I
- 17:19Speaker 1: just think he hasn't had the mind to I think
- 17:21Speaker 1: it's hard to be good on defense. I think the opposite.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I also think they got like that. Somebody asked the
- 17:26Speaker 1: question of Bill, which was something that popped up in
- 17:28Speaker 1: my mind when I watched Hard Knocks, was that they
- 17:30Speaker 1: have a lot of former players as coaches. So you
- 17:33Speaker 1: had like Deuce Staley, You've got Aaron Glenn as the
- 17:35Speaker 1: defensive coordinator, and you know, he hasn't had a lot
- 17:38Speaker 1: of experience. I mean, I think he's kind of ampty aggressiveness.
- 17:42Speaker 1: But I think they're getting burned on it a lot.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And you know, I think he's trying to be, you know,
- 17:46Speaker 1: playing that Dan Campbell style of being crazy and aggressive
- 17:49Speaker 1: and just going for it. But I think that they
- 17:51Speaker 1: haven't really found If you listen to Bill, like he
- 17:53Speaker 1: went on and on about all the things about the
- 17:55Speaker 1: Detroit the one thing he didn't say is well coached.
- 17:58Speaker 1: He left that out. That's true. You know, he did
- 18:01Speaker 1: not say well coach. He said they're aggressive in this
- 18:04Speaker 1: and we're good running and better to be care explosive
- 18:06Speaker 1: and all that. But he didn't he didn't use those
- 18:08Speaker 1: words and start Barton. You know, I don't want to
- 18:10Speaker 1: get him up. You know, I don't think it was
- 18:12Speaker 1: by accident, you know, well, I mean there, it's like
- 18:15Speaker 1: it seems like the defense is like anything the offense
- 18:17Speaker 1: can do, we can do worse on this side of
- 18:19Speaker 1: the ball, Like every like every stat you're like, but
- 18:21Speaker 1: they're aftering thirty five points a game, Well they're giving
- 18:23Speaker 1: up thirty five point whatever, you know, like like everything,
- 18:25Speaker 1: the defense just makes it like one forty one to
- 18:28Speaker 1: one forty they've allowed. I think it's astounding. I'm right, right,
- 18:33Speaker 1: I think it's astounding how similar their numbers are on
- 18:35Speaker 1: both sides of the ball. And it's so you know
- 18:37Speaker 1: what it sounds record big twelve football. Yeah right, yeah,
- 18:41Speaker 1: that's what you're right. That's why Oklahoma State and you
- 18:45Speaker 1: know West Virginia, Oklahoma, like they put up so many points,
- 18:48Speaker 1: but the defense also allows so many points. Right, that's
- 18:51Speaker 1: what they did, big twelve foot. It is true. It's
- 18:55Speaker 1: what it is. Penalties, big plays. And I saw Bob
- 18:59Speaker 1: so was tweeting about a bunch of the stuff, like
- 19:01Speaker 1: going back looking at the game and how many penalties
- 19:03Speaker 1: they had and they still went forty eight forty five
- 19:06Speaker 1: and the teams were like getting all kinds of penalties
- 19:08Speaker 1: to stop their drives and just overcoming them. Yeah, that
- 19:12Speaker 1: was just so hard with them. Or it's just they're
- 19:14Speaker 1: so fast and loose they don't care. And that's why,
- 19:16Speaker 1: like I don't know what to expect, Like even if
- 19:17Speaker 1: the Patriots start pretty good, like when you look at us,
- 19:19Speaker 1: expect them to keep coming back for more no matter
- 19:21Speaker 1: how the game's going. When you look at the Lions offense,
- 19:24Speaker 1: they should be good. They've got good I think they
- 19:26Speaker 1: have good personnel and they've got good players the line.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I mean, that's I would start with the line with
- 19:31Speaker 1: you know, three first round picks at you know, at
- 19:33Speaker 1: center and the two tackle spots. I think those guys
- 19:35Speaker 1: are pretty good. I think they opened up polls and
- 19:37Speaker 1: they are able to give Goths some protection. And you know,
- 19:39Speaker 1: he saw it, as we said yesterday, even with you know,
- 19:41Speaker 1: two of their best players out, he was still able
- 19:43Speaker 1: to you know, work with Hawkinson and you know that
- 19:46Speaker 1: ums Josh Reynolds, General Josh Reynolds and you know, but
- 19:50Speaker 1: you're talking about what our old friend for your DJ Chark,
- 19:53Speaker 1: which I always feel like was like a guy that
- 19:55Speaker 1: the Patriots like Ja Truck but you know, like Goffs,
- 20:00Speaker 1: we're going to be an elite quarterback. But he's a
- 20:01Speaker 1: very capable quarterback. I put him in like that Kirk Cousins.
- 20:05Speaker 1: You know, you know, you know, he's a guy who
- 20:09Speaker 1: can put numbers up just enough to be, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 1: somewhat dangerous on a giving game, but not good enough
- 20:15Speaker 1: to what are you gonna get? I would say, out
- 20:17Speaker 1: of the first four quarterbacks they've faced, this is the
- 20:20Speaker 1: one I'm less scared about. He's good, like you shouldn't
- 20:22Speaker 1: like underestimate him, but he's still not like Mr Jackson
- 20:27Speaker 1: or Tuah or Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, except for that one.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I mean that, you know, and I think Bill you know,
- 20:36Speaker 1: knows him. You know, he's like prepared the hell for
- 20:39Speaker 1: Jared goff because you know we faced him in a
- 20:41Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Uh so, like they know what he can
- 20:45Speaker 1: and can't do. Yeah, Well that's just what I wonder.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I mean that was um you know the offensive coordinator,
- 20:50Speaker 1: um Ben Johnson was a was a Gays guy. Um,
- 20:54Speaker 1: so I know Bill did mention a little bit of that.
- 20:56Speaker 1: You know, outside zone stuff for the Shanahan, but I
- 20:58Speaker 1: wonder how similar it is and you know if the
- 21:00Speaker 1: same kind of defensive game plan thought is going to
- 21:04Speaker 1: work now if it, you know, if it would obviously
- 21:06Speaker 1: worked well against the Rams. I just don't know how
- 21:08Speaker 1: similar to Two things that I would worry about along
- 21:11Speaker 1: Mike's lines are a Bill knew how to stop him
- 21:15Speaker 1: then that was a long time ago, yea, So maybe
- 21:17Speaker 1: he's improved, Maybe he's developed some things that he struggled at.
- 21:21Speaker 1: He's no longer struggling at. That's one. And the second
- 21:23Speaker 1: thing is they had no running game that day with
- 21:25Speaker 1: no Todd Gurley, and they're obviously running the ball extremely
- 21:28Speaker 1: well now Patriots have struggled stopping the run. True, So
- 21:33Speaker 1: I just wonder if you know twenty eighteen to you know,
- 21:39Speaker 1: to twenty twenty two, that could be a different Jerry Goff. Again,
- 21:43Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think he's a star, but
- 21:46Speaker 1: I do think when you look at their offensive personnel,
- 21:49Speaker 1: it's not stunning that they've gotten off to a good
- 21:52Speaker 1: start offensive. Who would you rather have back in one
- 21:55Speaker 1: hundred percent this game, Lawrence Guy or Brian Hoyer? Yeah,
- 22:01Speaker 1: I think that when you look at I think that
- 22:03Speaker 1: when you look at I could do anything I wanted
- 22:05Speaker 1: offensively if I had faith in my quarterback. Yeah, I
- 22:09Speaker 1: think that. You know, the way that the team was
- 22:12Speaker 1: able to make Aaron Rodgers have one of the worst
- 22:15Speaker 1: halfs that he's ever had with Bill Belichick taking away
- 22:18Speaker 1: what they do best in that being their quarterback. I
- 22:20Speaker 1: look at this week being in the run game, and
- 22:22Speaker 1: so having Lawrence Guy back could be really beneficial for
- 22:27Speaker 1: not allowing them to have five point six yards per carry. Yeah,
- 22:30Speaker 1: and forcing Golf to throw the ball more So, I
- 22:32Speaker 1: don't know. I would love to have him back. I
- 22:34Speaker 1: hope he is back. Yeah, it's tough. I hear what
- 22:36Speaker 1: Paul saying, though, because if you have Hoyer, he's again
- 22:40Speaker 1: he's not He's not a great quarterback, but you can
- 22:43Speaker 1: open up your playbook, you can do anything. There's nothing
- 22:46Speaker 1: that he doesn't know how to do. It's probably the
- 22:48Speaker 1: right answer. I just think that I'm with everybody, these
- 22:51Speaker 1: Patriot fans who you know, just have that like zappy positivity,
- 22:55Speaker 1: Like I'm talking about excitement level a rational if I
- 23:01Speaker 1: thy five points, what do I have a better chance
- 23:03Speaker 1: of doing that with Hoyer or zappy. There's not really
- 23:06Speaker 1: not a conversation to be had there unless they get
- 23:08Speaker 1: the pick six again, you know, and do that kind
- 23:10Speaker 1: of stuff. Yeah, I did. I did see. I caught
- 23:12Speaker 1: m It looked like guy traveled with a team this week,
- 23:15Speaker 1: so he was there. So I thought that was to
- 23:17Speaker 1: me that I know, I'm not like pulling this. I
- 23:21Speaker 1: saw that a couple of places. He had a shoulder injury, right,
- 23:24Speaker 1: Mac Jones had an ankle injury. Like, I think there's
- 23:27Speaker 1: a difference between being on a plane with a with
- 23:29Speaker 1: a bad ankle and in a shoulder having to move around,
- 23:32Speaker 1: like the swelling and all that stuff. It's not the
- 23:35Speaker 1: same kind of thing for his shoulder. I don't I
- 23:36Speaker 1: didn't look at that as he's closer. He didn't practice
- 23:39Speaker 1: on the bench the whole game. He didn't practice at
- 23:41Speaker 1: all last week, correct, right, I'm not misremembering that, right.
- 23:44Speaker 1: He was DNP all three days, That's right. Yeah. I
- 23:47Speaker 1: think he'll you know, I think he has a chance
- 23:50Speaker 1: to be back out at practice this week. I'm not
- 23:53Speaker 1: penciling him in to be back because he traveled last week. Yeah,
- 23:57Speaker 1: I was just happy he hadn't really heard anything about
- 23:59Speaker 1: what was going on with him. I mean, you know,
- 24:01Speaker 1: we saw a report this morning about John Nu that
- 24:03Speaker 1: it's a low ankle sprain, you know, but we didn't
- 24:05Speaker 1: get anything in that on guys, So I just I
- 24:07Speaker 1: just took it as I didn't know if his season
- 24:09Speaker 1: was over. Yeah, we got a good tweet about that.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Did you see that? What's that? Someone tweeted us right
- 24:13Speaker 1: after the report came out about Jono Smith low ankle
- 24:16Speaker 1: sprain week to week high ankle sprain for Mac Jones
- 24:19Speaker 1: day by day. So let me ask you another would
- 24:22Speaker 1: you rather? Would you rather outscore the Lions, like and
- 24:26Speaker 1: scoring the forties or be the first team to like
- 24:29Speaker 1: hold them under twenty forties? You'd rather you could put
- 24:34Speaker 1: up forty points? Would I mean that would change that,
- 24:37Speaker 1: That would change your view of the off Now. I
- 24:39Speaker 1: think the offense is coming coming around, but I don't
- 24:41Speaker 1: think I don't think that that's the more likely of
- 24:43Speaker 1: the two. Though. I think the more likely of the
- 24:44Speaker 1: two is that they hold this offense around twenty points
- 24:47Speaker 1: and they were able to get twenty seven twenty eight
- 24:49Speaker 1: and win. We think that's more likely. I think that's
- 24:51Speaker 1: more likely than than the offense with Bailey z Appy
- 24:54Speaker 1: scores four, isn't there defense allegedly that bad? They could
- 24:59Speaker 1: they could do? Could you both now now you're getting
- 25:05Speaker 1: I mean, could you now it's Super Bowl or bus baby?
- 25:08Speaker 1: Yesterday you didn't think they were going to win the game,
- 25:10Speaker 1: and now we're talking about winning forty something under twenty
- 25:13Speaker 1: they're gonna win yesterday. That you're not pencil You're not confident.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not penciling it. You're not confident. No, right,
- 25:21Speaker 1: that's all I didn't you know, because a lot of
- 25:23Speaker 1: people when they looked at the schedules, they penciled in
- 25:26Speaker 1: the Bears, they penciled in Detroit, the Browns. You can't
- 25:30Speaker 1: do that with this team anymore. You can't do it
- 25:33Speaker 1: just the Bears. That's the only the Bears. That what
- 25:36Speaker 1: I'm doing. I don't think forties, Okay, maybe like thirties, twenties, okay,
- 25:40Speaker 1: expectations half I'll meet you halfway. I mean, what if
- 25:45Speaker 1: they just scored I don't know, twenty nine? Is that
- 25:47Speaker 1: really okay? Listen, I'll take I'll take all the offensive production,
- 25:51Speaker 1: I'll take zone. I'm really lowered my bar. Just get
- 25:54Speaker 1: down to the red zone. Just have a threat to
- 25:56Speaker 1: score friend, it's all I ask. One thing I will
- 25:58Speaker 1: point out about this is there their kicker situation is
- 26:01Speaker 1: that if they're forced to field goals, like they might
- 26:03Speaker 1: not even make those depending on if they're It almost
- 26:06Speaker 1: like scares me more because now they're just we're just
- 26:08Speaker 1: gonna go for it. We're going for it. We're not
- 26:09Speaker 1: trying to kick. Yeah, you can't rely on their kicker.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Like I just think this Patriots team regardless like he
- 26:14Speaker 1: got hurt. There was a guy who got hurt last week,
- 26:16Speaker 1: but he did make his field goals. Yeah, he just missed.
- 26:19Speaker 1: He missed two extra points. It's just narrow kind of
- 26:22Speaker 1: road to victory with this Patriots team over the last
- 26:24Speaker 1: couple of years that you know it needs no turnovers,
- 26:26Speaker 1: you know, And it's like this Lions team just throws
- 26:28Speaker 1: it all on its head like they're just you know,
- 26:30Speaker 1: like one turnover could change everything. It's convention. It's like
- 26:34Speaker 1: it's with the conventional wisdom's gone with this team. It
- 26:37Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense. Like they just score and give
- 26:40Speaker 1: up scores every time. That's literally big twelve every time.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And I think when you're in those kinds of games
- 26:48Speaker 1: they can win, Like all it takes is like a
- 26:51Speaker 1: fluke turnover, yea and right, and that changes it. Who
- 26:55Speaker 1: if they played Baltimore and Baltimore's had this. They played Aladelphia, Washington, Minnesota,
- 27:01Speaker 1: in Seattle. Okay, the Ravens just can't hold onto a lead.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Now they played they played a good team in Philly,
- 27:08Speaker 1: a decent team in Minnesota, and two bad teams in
- 27:10Speaker 1: Washington in Seattle. Yeah, so they their offense probably hasn't
- 27:15Speaker 1: been tested yet. Is that fair to say by a
- 27:17Speaker 1: good I would say the best defense that they faced
- 27:19Speaker 1: was the Eagles, and they got thirty five on them. Yeah,
- 27:22Speaker 1: eighty six yards offense, I mean balanced, I mean one
- 27:25Speaker 1: eighty one rushing. So now I also would say they
- 27:29Speaker 1: and I made this comment yesterday, I think they've spent
- 27:32Speaker 1: a lot of time down two scores in the second
- 27:34Speaker 1: halves of games, and I think sometimes you could just
- 27:37Speaker 1: go free and easy. We're just gonna throw it on
- 27:39Speaker 1: four downs. To Mike's point, you're gonna use all four
- 27:41Speaker 1: downs because we're trailing. What do we have to lose,
- 27:44Speaker 1: and we're gonna throw it around and spread it out,
- 27:47Speaker 1: and the other team's probably going to be in a
- 27:48Speaker 1: little bit of a pre event because we got a
- 27:50Speaker 1: two score lead, right, And I think that some of
- 27:53Speaker 1: this production has to be a result of that, well
- 27:56Speaker 1: some of it. I'm not saying all of it, because
- 27:57Speaker 1: they've had they've had close games. They've all been close games. Yeah.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Do we have like scores by quarter? Yeah, well I
- 28:04Speaker 1: know that Philadelphia. I told you this yesterday. Philadelphia and
- 28:06Speaker 1: Seattle had two score leads in the fourth quarter. Yeah. No,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I'm talking about there, like how many points um they've
- 28:13Speaker 1: scored per quarter thirty two, thirty three, thirty two forty three,
- 28:17Speaker 1: So so they scored it's not much more in the fourth. Yeah,
- 28:21Speaker 1: they just go. Yeah, they just they generally get off
- 28:23Speaker 1: to fast starts. Thirty two to fourteen in the first quarter.
- 28:26Speaker 1: I think that's skewed by the Washington game because Washington
- 28:30Speaker 1: was terrible. Yeah, they were behind early in Seattle too. Listen,
- 28:34Speaker 1: no one really knows what's going to happen this Sunday.
- 28:36Speaker 1: It's it's which makes it exciting, I think, right, it does.
- 28:40Speaker 1: I mean, you know, this brand of football regardless, I mean,
- 28:42Speaker 1: I think you'd be expecting to see fireworks even if
- 28:46Speaker 1: it was like a Tom you know, obviously, you know
- 28:48Speaker 1: Tom Brady. These guys, but we've got them. But because
- 28:51Speaker 1: we're yeah, we've got to win. You have to win.
- 28:54Speaker 1: So Fred, you asked for quarterbreakdowns. Yeah, Paul just gave
- 28:57Speaker 1: it to us for all of them. Yeah. Thirty two three,
- 29:00Speaker 1: thirty two, forty three. That's their school is by quarter. Yeah.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Do they score a lot of points, yeah, consistent. It's
- 29:05Speaker 1: even doubt like if they had all their points in
- 29:08Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, they'd be like, okay, other teams are
- 29:11Speaker 1: you know, it's all but it's not there. They've evened
- 29:14Speaker 1: out there. No, it's well, they had twenty two points
- 29:17Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter last week. Yeah, that was They
- 29:19Speaker 1: were down early and just kind of kept hanging around.
- 29:23Speaker 1: I mean, it's gonna be. It's gonna unfortunately for me
- 29:25Speaker 1: trying to write during the thing, it's gonna But see,
- 29:28Speaker 1: I have a lot of confidence in the Patriots in
- 29:30Speaker 1: that scenario. They don't get caught from behind a lot.
- 29:33Speaker 1: So if they have the lead and Detroit's chasing all day,
- 29:35Speaker 1: I'll feel like you normally feel. Yeah, it was a
- 29:38Speaker 1: close game, but at the page, I knew the Patriots
- 29:40Speaker 1: gonna win. Yeah, I don't if Fred gives you that look,
- 29:42Speaker 1: and I was comfortable yeah, I'll agree with that. Just
- 29:45Speaker 1: like the Pittsburgh game. Yeah, they never had a lead. Really,
- 29:48Speaker 1: it was always close. But I felt like, the Patriots
- 29:50Speaker 1: don't lose this kind of game, right, they have the lead,
- 29:53Speaker 1: the other team's chasing the whole second half. Patriots the
- 29:55Speaker 1: sweet spot. They're not gonna I'm not going to chat them. Well,
- 29:59Speaker 1: that's the way the Baltimore game was trending. But they
- 30:02Speaker 1: they were losing that game, but it was it was trending.
- 30:05Speaker 1: It was things were happening in the Patriots favor and
- 30:08Speaker 1: then it just fell apart. Yeah. See, I never felt
- 30:10Speaker 1: good about I mean, they took the lead and then
- 30:11Speaker 1: Baltimore took it right back. Yeah, and then from that
- 30:14Speaker 1: point on when they made it twenty one twenty, it
- 30:17Speaker 1: was all Baltimore. Yeah, the rest of the game. So, Fred,
- 30:19Speaker 1: I have I have would you rather for you? Would
- 30:23Speaker 1: you rather Jalen Mills. We're getting Racy came back, or
- 30:27Speaker 1: have Jack Jones back out there again on Sunday Jack
- 30:30Speaker 1: Jones and put you know, Jalen Mills can be out
- 30:34Speaker 1: there too, but I want Jack Jones playing. No, But
- 30:36Speaker 1: that wasn't I like Paul, He's like he just want
- 30:41Speaker 1: to be to Marylyn, Jalen Jones, I wanted again out there.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Say it again, Tomaron, he didn't understand it the first time.
- 30:47Speaker 1: So Jalen Jones, Yeah, being out there, Jalan Mills, Jale Mills,
- 30:51Speaker 1: I mean, sorry, Jalen Mills being out there, or Jack Jones.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I can't have both. I can't have both. I want
- 30:57Speaker 1: you didn't have both last week. I want Jack Jalen
- 31:00Speaker 1: take against the run, against the running team like this.
- 31:02Speaker 1: This is where I feel like now the answer is
- 31:05Speaker 1: what you said, but that wasn't an option. But if
- 31:08Speaker 1: I can only have one of those two guys active,
- 31:10Speaker 1: I'd rather have it be Jalen Mills. But I want
- 31:14Speaker 1: to see more Jack Jones with Mills and maybe Jonathan
- 31:19Speaker 1: Jones inside. Yeah, but yeah, I think Jack to me
- 31:22Speaker 1: like he I think he's great at attempting to force turnovers,
- 31:27Speaker 1: but he's just like focusing too much on that and
- 31:29Speaker 1: not tackling, which could be a problem in this game
- 31:31Speaker 1: when you have a team that can run the ball
- 31:32Speaker 1: the way they can. Yeah, yeah, but they can also
- 31:36Speaker 1: pass it. So I want a guy out there who
- 31:38Speaker 1: can make a play. So I don't know, you know,
- 31:41Speaker 1: I'll have one guy you know, I can I can
- 31:44Speaker 1: live with one guy who's not the greatest tackler but
- 31:46Speaker 1: is more apt to make a play. You know, do
- 31:49Speaker 1: you think of Treyvon Digs. He's pretty good. Okay, you're consistent.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Then most people think he sucks. Okay, he makes a
- 31:57Speaker 1: play every game, gives up ten. Yeah, Jack doesn't do
- 32:00Speaker 1: that yet. Well on Sunday he kind of did, only
- 32:04Speaker 1: only gets the run. Yeah, okay, wait, I've got another one.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I don't know you'd watch over time. I've got another one,
- 32:10Speaker 1: but this one is a little bit easier. Isaiah Win
- 32:12Speaker 1: starting or Marcus Cannon starting. I would put Win back
- 32:18Speaker 1: out there, but because I've got Cannon, you know, ready
- 32:22Speaker 1: to go, and Casey starts, you know, committing penalties again
- 32:26Speaker 1: or yeah, it's a tough one. What do you think
- 32:29Speaker 1: I mean? I mean, I just I like Marcus Cannon.
- 32:31Speaker 1: I would I would make the move. I would make
- 32:33Speaker 1: the move. I think that they're going to probably try
- 32:35Speaker 1: to get high. But so then, when you have a
- 32:36Speaker 1: tackle eligible, do you bring Win in for that? Yeah,
- 32:40Speaker 1: you know, I'd rather have it the other way, and
- 32:43Speaker 1: you run the risk of losing Isaiah Win. I mean,
- 32:46Speaker 1: do we have him, we have we know what I'm saying.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I can't rely on Marcus Cannon playing right tackle the
- 32:51Speaker 1: rest of the way. I can't rely on that. I
- 32:53Speaker 1: don't know if I can rely on Isaiah Win though
- 32:55Speaker 1: I know I know that even that best. But you're
- 32:58Speaker 1: talking about injury. But I think if you take Win out,
- 33:00Speaker 1: you you mail have lost both of them. If Marcus
- 33:02Speaker 1: Cannon gets hurt, that'scerne. Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I
- 33:08Speaker 1: I mean, and I know in a perfect world like
- 33:10Speaker 1: well you got a fight and work your way back
- 33:13Speaker 1: and get your spot back. It doesn't work like that sometimes,
- 33:16Speaker 1: especially in your last year of your contract. But yeah,
- 33:18Speaker 1: I think that Cannon um Cannon deserves a longer look.
- 33:23Speaker 1: If it's this week, I don't know, but they have
- 33:26Speaker 1: to do something about that spot. Yeah, yep, yeah, all right.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Five past five hundred's the ace ticket hutline web radio
- 33:35Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com is the email address. Let's get
- 33:38Speaker 1: to the phone see what people will have to say.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Start with Todd North Carolina. What's up, Todd? I was
- 33:45Speaker 1: really happy watching that game. I sent a quick email
- 33:49Speaker 1: to the postgame saying that you know, this was good
- 33:52Speaker 1: to see their determination and their grit to overcome what
- 33:55Speaker 1: was obviously a pretty big setback pretty early in the game,
- 33:58Speaker 1: and they never quit, and I think I really appreciate that,
- 34:02Speaker 1: just to see that, and I think that I'm gonna
- 34:05Speaker 1: come out right and say it. I think we're gonna
- 34:07Speaker 1: beat the b lines. I think we're I think we're
- 34:09Speaker 1: due for maybe a little wind streak here because I
- 34:11Speaker 1: like what's going on. So that's just my take. And yeah,
- 34:13Speaker 1: I love the after show and that was great with
- 34:16Speaker 1: those guys, and it's great they see that. Evans getting
- 34:19Speaker 1: his own show coming up next though. I'll be listening
- 34:21Speaker 1: to that too. Take care of guys, all right, thanks. Yeah,
- 34:25Speaker 1: I think I think in terms of the locker room,
- 34:27Speaker 1: I think, you know, even though a loss is a loss,
- 34:30Speaker 1: I think they might feel better about themselves this week
- 34:34Speaker 1: than they did the week before. Yeah, it could be.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I don't think they'll say they celebrated a moral victory,
- 34:40Speaker 1: but I think they did. Yeah. The vibes seem good. Yeah,
- 34:43Speaker 1: I mean they banned it together a third string quarterback,
- 34:47Speaker 1: you know, lambeau Field. I think I think, you know,
- 34:50Speaker 1: they quietly feel good about the effort, and I think
- 34:54Speaker 1: there's a positive vibe going into this game. I agree. Like,
- 34:57Speaker 1: when I was working on press pass, texted Neil and
- 35:01Speaker 1: I was like, this might be the most positive press
- 35:03Speaker 1: pass after a loss. I just felt like listening to Slater,
- 35:07Speaker 1: you know, listening to you know, honestly every single person,
- 35:10Speaker 1: not just Later being a captain and being a veteran
- 35:12Speaker 1: that he is. I think everyone was just kind of
- 35:15Speaker 1: like impressed with it, even though they wouldn't say that's
- 35:19Speaker 1: that's the that's the tone I got from it. Yeah,
- 35:22Speaker 1: I would agree. Dan in Virginia and Michigan, what's up Hello?
- 35:28Speaker 1: And all Hello. This first thing might get me a
- 35:32Speaker 1: cool story handled. But the Patriots playing the lines in
- 35:36Speaker 1: their throwbacks has me thinking back to a Thanksgiving game.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I think it was twenty eleven, twenty twelve. It was
- 35:42Speaker 1: on the day of Thanksgiving. We were traveling down to
- 35:44Speaker 1: visit my anilaws down in Pittsburgh, so, you know, the
- 35:47Speaker 1: big Patriot haters, and we get there about halftime and
- 35:51Speaker 1: I don't know if you recall the game, but the
- 35:53Speaker 1: Patriots were down by about twenty points at halftime and
- 35:56Speaker 1: my teenage nephew comes up to me. But you know,
- 35:59Speaker 1: I didn't think even said low. He just comes up
- 36:01Speaker 1: all cocky and he's like, hey, uncle Dan, the Patriots
- 36:04Speaker 1: are down twenty four points or whatever it was. And
- 36:08Speaker 1: fortunately I had faith in the team and I ended
- 36:11Speaker 1: up laughing at the end of the day because obviously
- 36:12Speaker 1: they came back and one big time in that game.
- 36:15Speaker 1: But with regards to this upcoming game, thanks man. In
- 36:24Speaker 1: regards to the upcoming game, you touched on a little
- 36:26Speaker 1: bit with Jared Goff. Do you think we can really
- 36:29Speaker 1: expect this game to go like the Super Bowl or
- 36:32Speaker 1: was that largely a product of mcveigh's play calling and
- 36:37Speaker 1: the fact that Gough was kind of depended on him
- 36:40Speaker 1: up until right before the play. And the other question
- 36:43Speaker 1: I have is are we going to see a big
- 36:45Speaker 1: boost and performance on both sides because the offense can
- 36:49Speaker 1: score hopefully given the lines defense, and that takes a
- 36:53Speaker 1: bit of pressure off the off the Patriots defense. Even
- 36:57Speaker 1: though the lines can score, they you know that, you
- 36:59Speaker 1: know there is an as a much presure on them
- 37:00Speaker 1: to hold up the entire team because that's the offense
- 37:03Speaker 1: team get going a little bit well, if you recalling
- 37:06Speaker 1: that's like Paul said, they didn't have a running game
- 37:09Speaker 1: and yeah, so they were. They were depleted offensively, a
- 37:15Speaker 1: little bit, and I think, yeah, and I think he
- 37:18Speaker 1: was a lot less experienced at the time. Now listen,
- 37:21Speaker 1: he could go out and do the same thing. I
- 37:22Speaker 1: don't think Jared Goff is a great quarterback. I loved
- 37:24Speaker 1: your Kirk Cousins um comp Freddy. I think those are
- 37:29Speaker 1: guys that are capable on any given Sunday of looking
- 37:31Speaker 1: really good and really bad. Yep. That's why they're sort
- 37:34Speaker 1: of middling quarterbacks. They're inconsistent. Now he's played well this year.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Eleven touchdowns, three picks. That's a lot of turnovers. That's
- 37:40Speaker 1: pretty good. Yeah, that's pretty good. Yeah, all right, thanks
- 37:45Speaker 1: dan Um. Let's go to Alex and fall River. What's
- 37:48Speaker 1: up A seventeen ten? Um? I've done a random question
- 37:52Speaker 1: about the league in general. So I was thinking about
- 37:55Speaker 1: young storre star quarterbacks on how they never really seemed
- 37:58Speaker 1: US fifteen the rookie contract, and I was wondering why
- 38:02Speaker 1: that is When I know the NBA to have financial
- 38:06Speaker 1: incentive to study with the original team. How come in
- 38:10Speaker 1: the NFL never happened? And I'll take your okay, NBA
- 38:15Speaker 1: has what is the what is the question exactly? I
- 38:19Speaker 1: didn't know if you've said a specific position. But why quarterbacks? Quarterbacks?
- 38:22Speaker 1: Why don't they stay? Quarterbacks don't stay for good? They do,
- 38:28Speaker 1: I mean Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen. Yeah, what they do
- 38:31Speaker 1: is they extend them before that first contract. Us Wilson.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of young quarterbacks. Dak Prescott
- 38:37Speaker 1: just signed a new contract and you know what to
- 38:41Speaker 1: no last year, right, Yes, I mean if you don't
- 38:46Speaker 1: resign your quarterback to a second contract, it means you
- 38:48Speaker 1: weren't convinced on it, right, all right, I mean even
- 38:52Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield got the fifth year option picked up, right,
- 38:55Speaker 1: So they had to treat them. Daniel Jones like, if
- 38:58Speaker 1: they don't resign them, that means they want them. Yeah.
- 39:01Speaker 1: It's a lot different than the NBA two where the
- 39:03Speaker 1: NBA is not really set up for parody in the
- 39:06Speaker 1: league like the NFL is um and also the teams
- 39:10Speaker 1: that draft first, like like take Zion in New Orleans,
- 39:14Speaker 1: like or these small like the Sacramento Kings, Like, no
- 39:17Speaker 1: one's gonna stay there, so you have to incentivize them
- 39:20Speaker 1: to stay there and not just sign with like the
- 39:22Speaker 1: Lakers or Miami. You know that's a good is how
- 39:25Speaker 1: do they incentivize staying with your team, you can get
- 39:29Speaker 1: staying with your team, you can work, you can earn more. Right, Yeah,
- 39:34Speaker 1: I think there's the existing team is able to offer
- 39:37Speaker 1: more money in the NBA in like the Supermax Extent
- 39:40Speaker 1: chain or some I forget how it all breaks down.
- 39:42Speaker 1: It's been a while since I went to front office.
- 39:46Speaker 1: That's interesting. Yeah, like you said, Alex, the NFL is
- 39:50Speaker 1: set up to try to be, you know, for parody, which,
- 39:53Speaker 1: by the way, new record fifteen teams two and two
- 40:00Speaker 1: through four weeks. This year has been great. It has
- 40:03Speaker 1: been really fun to like watch football. I think I say,
- 40:08Speaker 1: I was going to say, she sarcastic. I think it's
- 40:11Speaker 1: been kind of fun. There's I mean, after years and
- 40:15Speaker 1: years of it kind of just being us at the top.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I way, I'm looking for the silver line it is.
- 40:22Speaker 1: I mean, it is weird. I feel you don't really
- 40:24Speaker 1: know what the power structure is anymore. I mean, it's
- 40:26Speaker 1: changed a lot, but it's certainly still some good teams,
- 40:28Speaker 1: but overall it's it's you don't have like the usual,
- 40:31Speaker 1: all right, it's always you know, they went down to
- 40:33Speaker 1: one undefeated team after three weeks and one winless team
- 40:39Speaker 1: after four weeks like that's that's amazing to me. Everybody's
- 40:44Speaker 1: just sort of black. Yeah. Yeah. At first I was like, oh,
- 40:48Speaker 1: Bills are like a step ahead of everyone else. And
- 40:51Speaker 1: now I'm like, I also, I wish I was like
- 40:54Speaker 1: h but but I think it's because they have so
- 40:56Speaker 1: many people out right now to get all the people back. Yeah,
- 40:58Speaker 1: they are, and like like fill it Alphia, Kansas City, Buffalo, like, yeah,
- 41:02Speaker 1: they probably are a notch above everybody else. But usually
- 41:05Speaker 1: at this time of year, you're like looking at a
- 41:09Speaker 1: bunch of different teams like that, and there's some other
- 41:12Speaker 1: teams that you think of in that way that really
- 41:15Speaker 1: haven't shown it yet, you know, for the year, you know,
- 41:17Speaker 1: one don't know, eight years in a row. The Chargers
- 41:19Speaker 1: are being that category and they're decimated by injuries too, like,
- 41:23Speaker 1: so that's the other part of it. I think there's
- 41:25Speaker 1: been a lot of impactful injuries around the league, and
- 41:27Speaker 1: now that always stinks. Everybody. Everybody gets upset about that,
- 41:32Speaker 1: except for Fred. He likes to see guys get hurt
- 41:35Speaker 1: as long as they're not Patriots. Correct right, her statement,
- 41:42Speaker 1: but not entirely inaccurate. Ben and Long Island Rights in
- 41:46Speaker 1: at web Radio at pages dot com. Would you guys
- 41:48Speaker 1: rather see the team have a full blown breakdown this
- 41:51Speaker 1: year and get a high draft position or battle of ballot,
- 41:55Speaker 1: battle it out it out and fall somewhere in the middle.
- 42:01Speaker 1: So they're gonna fall in the middle, Yeah, like they're
- 42:03Speaker 1: gonna go seven and ten or or I'd rather bottom
- 42:06Speaker 1: out than go seven and ten. Yeah, yeah, I mean
- 42:09Speaker 1: or eight and nine. Depends though, but you can battle
- 42:14Speaker 1: it out and go ten, ten and seven and make
- 42:16Speaker 1: the playoffs. I'll take that contend. My problem with like
- 42:21Speaker 1: just giving up and just hoping you get a first
- 42:24Speaker 1: round pick. My problem was that is but that is
- 42:26Speaker 1: he's going to trade the pick. So then I'm like,
- 42:28Speaker 1: what's the poe. Well, it depends on who's up out
- 42:32Speaker 1: you know who's available. But maybe you get two first
- 42:34Speaker 1: round picks. Yeah, I'd rather have that currency, and you know,
- 42:38Speaker 1: whether you trade it away and get more picks or
- 42:41Speaker 1: use it. I think I'd want to be in that
- 42:43Speaker 1: position to have that off you're in the middle when
- 42:45Speaker 1: you're picking seventeen, he's gonna trade that too, Yeah, I
- 42:48Speaker 1: will say too, though. I mean I think over the
- 42:50Speaker 1: twenty plus years that he's been here, there have been
- 42:52Speaker 1: occasional times they've had top picks, you know, Seymour Mayo,
- 42:56Speaker 1: and I feel like they need a player like that
- 42:59Speaker 1: right now. They need a top ten talented player at
- 43:03Speaker 1: a variety of positions they could use it. So that's
- 43:06Speaker 1: what's tempting to me about it, is, you know, getting
- 43:08Speaker 1: that kind of guy that that could really maybe make
- 43:11Speaker 1: make over one side of the ball for you quickly.
- 43:13Speaker 1: And even Mayo was a trade down, right, right? What
- 43:16Speaker 1: did they go from? Like it wasn't a huge trade down,
- 43:21Speaker 1: but it was a trade down. Rocky and Chino Hills, California.
- 43:25Speaker 1: You know Chino Hills. Yeah, yeah, are they pleading that Chino?
- 43:30Speaker 1: I don't know, No, no good, I don't know. Usually
- 43:32Speaker 1: it's funny, you see you see the look. Sometimes I
- 43:33Speaker 1: go back to, uh, I end up um going back
- 43:36Speaker 1: to that stupid motorcycle show, The Sons of Anarchy. I
- 43:39Speaker 1: don't think thing that took place in California too. So
- 43:42Speaker 1: sometimes you ask me about places in California, like, oh, Stockton,
- 43:45Speaker 1: I'm like, I just think the Sons of Anarchy, like
- 43:47Speaker 1: sometimes Chino Hills. I think that was another one. Maybe
- 43:48Speaker 1: a lot of TV shows I would think probably took
- 43:51Speaker 1: place in overtime when the Patriots needed five yards to
- 43:54Speaker 1: pick up the first Friday Sorry, I'll try the email.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Sorry Frank. In overtime when the Patriots needed five yards
- 44:03Speaker 1: to pick up the first down in a few additional
- 44:05Speaker 1: yards to get into field goal range, they ended up
- 44:07Speaker 1: hunting because they couldn't convert. Back in the olden days,
- 44:11Speaker 1: they would have been able to pick up those yards
- 44:12Speaker 1: with a quick toss to the middle where either Welker,
- 44:15Speaker 1: Edelman or Amadola would make a much needed catch. Are
- 44:18Speaker 1: the current Patriots just not equipped with any players who
- 44:21Speaker 1: could make these kind of plays? Are our quarterbacks just
- 44:23Speaker 1: not seeing it? Or is the issue that they just
- 44:26Speaker 1: don't have any reliable plays in their current playbook that
- 44:30Speaker 1: they are willing to call to make that play? I
- 44:32Speaker 1: would have loved to note if Jacoby Myers was playing
- 44:35Speaker 1: last week, if that play that he's talking about could
- 44:38Speaker 1: have could have happened. Yeah, we also, like give the
- 44:42Speaker 1: guy a little bit of slack, and he's dealing with
- 44:44Speaker 1: a third string rookie quarterback and maybe he didn't want
- 44:47Speaker 1: to do anything that was going to put the ball
- 44:48Speaker 1: in harm's way. Yes, yeah, that's true. I mean they
- 44:51Speaker 1: were limited that they were really limited. The playbook was limited. Yeah,
- 44:55Speaker 1: I mean it was all the same kind of stuff.
- 44:57Speaker 1: I think they try to run a pick for Hunter Henry,
- 45:00Speaker 1: and I think that I read a couple of places
- 45:03Speaker 1: that look like Agalore? Was it Agla? Who Parker miss
- 45:08Speaker 1: missed the rub? Someone was supposed to set a pick
- 45:10Speaker 1: for Hunter Henry and it kind of got blown up,
- 45:13Speaker 1: which is why he immediately left the pocket, which I
- 45:16Speaker 1: still think he left the pocket too quickly, But that's
- 45:18Speaker 1: what young guys do. Are you talking to third down
- 45:20Speaker 1: playing overtime? Yeah? Oh, I thought Hunter Hermy's open. I
- 45:23Speaker 1: thought he could have hit him. I thought, well, he
- 45:26Speaker 1: definitely when it was supposed to be an immediate throw
- 45:29Speaker 1: and it wasn't there. But when when you look at
- 45:31Speaker 1: the all twenty two, I saw that and he if
- 45:34Speaker 1: you'd thrown it right away, he was open. But you
- 45:37Speaker 1: you also have to take into consideration the congestion that
- 45:40Speaker 1: was in front of zapp yea and his height. He
- 45:43Speaker 1: might not have been able to you know, the lane
- 45:45Speaker 1: might have been clauded up. You know, in that situation,
- 45:48Speaker 1: if you're if you're Bailey Zappy, I think you're you're
- 45:51Speaker 1: thinking like the throws to Parker and Agalore. If he's
- 45:55Speaker 1: wide open, I'm gonna let it fly. Otherwise I'm gonna
- 45:59Speaker 1: make sure I don't turn it. And then he almost
- 46:01Speaker 1: turned it over. Anyway, that's probably his worst play of
- 46:04Speaker 1: the game. That that particularly play when he spun around. Yeah,
- 46:07Speaker 1: which you never do. Yeah, you know, unless year like
- 46:11Speaker 1: silly like Patrick mahome Zach Patty Mahomi. Yeah. All right,
- 46:15Speaker 1: we'll take a break because Paul's foods here and we'll
- 46:18Speaker 1: be right back after he eats. Want to get into

- 55:59Speaker 1: the whole thing. Yes, yeah, so Evan is here and
- 56:03Speaker 1: guess what and then all right, Evan phillis in real
- 56:19Speaker 1: version this. Yeah, production has been working over there on
- 56:25Speaker 1: this week. Yeah, sorry, she did what I did A
- 56:29Speaker 1: new version, my bad, not not real version. New. Busy
- 56:32Speaker 1: day out at practice today. Typically Wednesdays are pretty busy
- 56:36Speaker 1: first day back at practice, so you have a lot
- 56:39Speaker 1: of attendance notes here. Some good news for the Patriots.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Quarterback Mac Jones was at practice. We did see him
- 56:45Speaker 1: throw a little bit early on in the media portion
- 56:50Speaker 1: against air. Obviously we don't seem team drills or anything
- 56:52Speaker 1: like that at this point of the season, but we
- 56:54Speaker 1: did get to see Mac make some throws dropped back
- 56:57Speaker 1: to pass on like last week when he was a
- 56:59Speaker 1: stay sary bike over there at the end of the
- 57:01Speaker 1: end zone and uh still ginger, still limping around. But
- 57:06Speaker 1: I thought the fact that he was actually making some
- 57:08Speaker 1: throws down the field on those dropbacks was a step
- 57:12Speaker 1: in the right direction. Taekwon Thornton was at practice. Signals
- 57:17Speaker 1: is ir return clock has begun? Jamie Collins and Garrett
- 57:21Speaker 1: Gilbert were there, assuming they're both on the practice squad.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Jamie Collins rocking nine, and the two absences were Brian
- 57:30Speaker 1: Hoyer and Johnny Smith. So Laurence Guy also returning to
- 57:34Speaker 1: practice after sitting out all last week and missing the
- 57:37Speaker 1: game on Sunday. So wow, mostly good news, I would say.
- 57:41Speaker 1: So Hoyer wasn't there this So are we assuming Zappi's
- 57:44Speaker 1: our starting quarterback this week? Yeah? I don't know. I
- 57:50Speaker 1: think that's why they brought Gilbert in because it's gonna
- 57:53Speaker 1: be Zappy and they need somebody someone to them up. Yeah,
- 57:56Speaker 1: Zach cost got a little video too of Thornton. It
- 57:59Speaker 1: just like again you sometimes, you know, build the Patriots
- 58:03Speaker 1: don't give you a lot of injury information, so you
- 58:05Speaker 1: have to sort of piece it together. Okay, so last
- 58:07Speaker 1: week the situation was Brian Hoyer and Bailey Zappy. No
- 58:12Speaker 1: Mac Jones, he was out right, Yeah, so what has changed?
- 58:18Speaker 1: Where's that hurt? Right? So you bring in a guy? Right?
- 58:22Speaker 1: If Mac Jones was healthy and Bailey Zappy was healthy, right,
- 58:27Speaker 1: why would you bring in a guy that's right? What
- 58:28Speaker 1: if you're not quite sure about Mac yet and you
- 58:31Speaker 1: just want to be safe. I also would mentioned that
- 58:33Speaker 1: they do need to have somebody to run the scout
- 58:35Speaker 1: team during practice. So if Mac is testing it and
- 58:40Speaker 1: Sappy's getting the majority of the starter reps, if you
- 58:43Speaker 1: will with the number one offense. Don't don't come at
- 58:45Speaker 1: me with logic. Garret Gilbert's running the scout team, presumably
- 58:50Speaker 1: that that could be the breakdown at practice point. Absolutely
- 58:53Speaker 1: it could be. And they were indoors today. They were
- 58:57Speaker 1: indoors walked through, so no paths. But I think this
- 59:02Speaker 1: is a little bit of a trend that we've seen
- 59:04Speaker 1: more in recent years with Belichick that he almost looks
- 59:08Speaker 1: ahead on the weather forecast and if Sunday is not
- 59:10Speaker 1: going to be a weather game, if there's not rain,
- 59:12Speaker 1: if it's not going to be cold, and it's a
- 59:14Speaker 1: bad day out during the week, we have seen them
- 59:16Speaker 1: move inside a little bit more, I would say, the
- 59:18Speaker 1: last year or two and what they've done in the past.
- 59:21Speaker 1: So I'm not totally shocked because it's supposed to be
- 59:23Speaker 1: sixty and sunny on Sunday at kickoff that Belichick gave
- 59:28Speaker 1: him the the indoor practice in the rain. What would
- 59:31Speaker 1: you say the difference in the mood between outdoor and indoor.
- 59:37Speaker 1: I would it's a good question to answer the question legitimately, No,
- 59:45Speaker 1: it's I'm trying to think about it because it's a
- 59:47Speaker 1: good question. I never thought about it. I would say
- 59:51Speaker 1: I prefer indoor practices, which are very rare obviously here,
- 59:55Speaker 1: But I prefer prefer indoor practices because we get a
- 59:58Speaker 1: much better vantage point of the fee yield than outdoor practices.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Out Like last week on Friday, Mac is on one
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: end of the field. We got to stay in our
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: little corner of the field on the total opposite end. Today,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: I actually posted the video of him throwing on on Twitter.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: We're standing, he's standing, you know, twenty five yards away
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: from us, and we're right front and center with him
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: watching him throw passes and watch the rest of the quarterback.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: So I think you get a much better vantage point,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: especially if the quarterbacks throwing when you're inside and when
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: you're outside me and they're throwing right into your into
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: your lap sometimes. How did the pat Patriot helmets look
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: out there to say, yeah, I'm not usually a unified
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I'm not usually a uniform guy. But when when Mac
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: came out with the pat Patriot helmet on, you were like, okay,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: that's pretty cool, right, okay, yeah, all right? And during
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: Bill's press conference he was he had some pretty you know,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: funny lines today. Did that jovial mood, you know, cross
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: over to practice so there were less grousing by the
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: media because of that. Well, I think the media in
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: general is happy that we didn't have to stand out
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: in the rain. Okay, so that limited grousing, but they
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: had to walk over there. Maybe that way we actually
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: drove over a lot of harun thing today that drove
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: over and then and then Pappaccino's pizza too. I heard
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: in the didn't have to say it's good, it's good
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: lovers Pappuccinos pizza, and that's Pappuccinos there in a while. Yeah,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: it's classic. I thought that isn't like doms are pizza place?
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Now I know what I thought it was. Now Doms
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: is the steak Tips? Do steak Tips? sALS is the pizza,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: That's what I thought. Okay, yeah, we went back to
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Pappaccinos just for media mail. I think is that allows
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: that allowed? I don't know. Does PR have to be
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: sure it was? Well, it did say in the media
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: and Stacy's email it would be Poppuccino's pizza. Oh okay,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: so the media grouseton. Yeah, yeah, if there was home grousing,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I do like that that he usually puts in the email. Now,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: what what the lunch is? Right? Nice. You can prepare it.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: If you don't like it, you can go to exactly,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: you know, Jimmy Johnson wherever you go. And I did
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: go to Jimmy John's in Green Bay though, because there
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: was one right next to it. I noticed that. Yeah,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: I spotted it as soon as we got there. Yeah, Evans,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: he brings his own. You know, it's like you, Paul,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: I don't. Oh yeah, a fat guy. I eat here
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: every day. But you, when you don't like what they're serving,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: you make it a point to go get your I'd
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: rather yeah, i'd rather get it. If it's a free
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: thing that I don't like. I would rather get something
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: that I do like. Yes, that he's not lying about it,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: and he makes a big big thing about that's that's
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: the line. Fred makes it a big thing. What did
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: he you pack that I went and got myself lunch
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: one day? Rather than each made a big thing, it
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: was the It was a series of lunches where Paul
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: was disgusted we kept getting so so he makes a point.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: Thanks small bone. Oh chicken, chicken with a small bone,
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: like eighteen days in a row. So so Paul makes
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: it a point. One sub he goes at the Angelos
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: and we're all eating. Right. He comes in, just slaps
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: his sub business not exactly what such a show of
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: You can make fun of me for going get lunch
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: and complaining about a free lunch. That chicken he just
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: slams the chicken, just slams the stubs down in the
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: middle of the table. You know, likes better than chicken breast.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: And to me it's free food. It was terrible, right,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: That's why I said, if you want to make fun
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: of me for not eating the free lunch, that's accurate.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: You make fun of me for slamming my things. Show
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: that's not what There's Jersey, Mikes or Jimmy John's within
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: walking distance on the road. I'm there, Yeah, that's what
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I'm bringing Jersey. It's the same thing. Yeah, he'd rather
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: have something that he wants to eat. Okay, it's something
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: that was given to him that he doesn't want to eat.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: You find the Jersey, I don't think it's rather big
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: enough strange. I find it big enough. Some lament me
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: and Paul have. I usually yeah, I usually like you
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: you finish it and you're like, I could go for
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: maybe not a large the largest too big. I actually
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: have the regular is too small. I find a bigger
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: problem Jimmy John's. Not to make fun of Jimmy Johns
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: because I love you guys. That their regular is a
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: little bit, a little bit skimpy sometimes, so you gotta
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: you gotta spice it up, maybe some extra turkey in
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: there or something. So what I like about Jersey Mike though,
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: even if even they're small, they stuff it. It's packed.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: To me, it's enough. I mean, you're you're a new man, though, Man,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: I'm still fat. You lost all that way frying fifteen
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: hundred calories a day. Not for me? Yeah, yeah, anymore?
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: All right? Uh, five five past five hundred is the
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: as ticket hut line web radio at Patriots dot com
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: is the email address. Thank you for that update, Evan.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: And you're excited about the show starting up at two o'clock.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: I'm very excited. Yes, I just showed Alex how to
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: get to the studio so he knows where had to
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: find us that too, And we're pumped. Yeah, we've we've
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: been plugging the show. I saw on Twitter, Uh you
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: mentioned it and people were just so relieved. I mean
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: they were really worried about you know how there was
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: ore In Barth back. Yeah, they need to fix. They
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: need the nerves too bad. Evan didn't know that they
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: were really needing to fix because Blotch everybody like ten
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: people evidently they all call them on Sunday. They're very upset. Yeah,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: all right, they would be like you just please ask.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: We can talk about it off air, but I need names.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: I don't know what their names though. All right, let's
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: get to the phones. Speeds and Fresno, what's up? Speed?
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: What's going on? It was interesting how much like help
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: that be got um it was. It was great, like
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: the defense scoring and uh, the coaches like really holding
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: his hand and the Packers trying to throw away the
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: game for the better part of sixty minutes. And I
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: know there's those caveats like with with how you know
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: what helped him out there, But I was kind of
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: wondering if you thought that the way things looked were
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: like as different as you would have expected going from
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: your first string quarterback to your third string quarterback. I'm
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: not trying to bass on Mac with that. I'm just
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: kind of wondering, is it that Zappy looked better or
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: maybe Mac isn't all we're hoping to be a combination
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: of those things. What do you think. I like to
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: think if Mack had played, they'd won the game. I
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: like to think that if everything played out exactly the same,
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: you know, I mean, the entire game changes of Mac place. Yeah,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: like you don't necessarily get the same game from Green true.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: And you wonder if the offensive line would have been
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: you know, as you know, band it together. We've got to,
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: you know, pick up our end of the deal if
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Mac was there. But I'd like to think that they
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: would be you know, you know, like just extrapolate it
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: to overtime. You take over in the forty nine yard line,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: and overtime, Mac Jones is gonna get a first time.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: You're gonna You're gonna at least you might miss the
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: field goal. Not arrantine that they're gonna make the kick,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: but you're gonna get a field goal. You're gonna get
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: into range, you're gonna get a field goal off. Yeah.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: So I just kind of I want to wonder, like,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: um Fred, to your point, kind of like did the
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: like offensive line, for instance, kind of step it up
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: and led the fact that the kid needed some help.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: And when we look back on this game, is it
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: more likely going to be a blip on the radar
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: because of the extenuating circumstances with your Thurston quarterback, or
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: do you think that this is more likely stay six
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: weeks from now going to be like, hey, remember when
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: they started to turn it up right green, big game? Well,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: that's what I more likely. I hear what you're saying
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: to me. That's why I said, I'm not calling that
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: one a moral victory until I see what happens down
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: the road. If in the next two three games they win,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: they play, then I'll say, okay, that it was a
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: moral victory. It did propel them, it gave them a
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: positive it's more than likely to happen considering the schedule.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: It's all I'm saying. If you think that, but I'm
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: not that positive. I can't be. I just think that
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: you fell into this last year, fell into what like
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: they had mortal victories against Tampa and Dallas. Then they
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: ripped off seven in a row when everybody said look, look, look,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: and then they couldn't force a punt like it. One
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: doesn't mean anything to the other. That's all I'm saying. Okay,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: let's take him as they come out, figure it out.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: On the way. Yeah, I'd feel better if Mac was
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: one hundred percent healthy. Well I can't argue with that. No,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: I'm serious, starting ques, I'd feel better if he if
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: he never played again, feel better. But he's not, and
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: so we're what we're all left to wonder, what does
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: the result of the game at Lambeau, How will that
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: affect the next few games without Mac? Yeah, I mean,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: the only thing I really take from it is the
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: continued progression of the run game. And you know, but
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: as far as what they did in the passing game,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I don't really see much other than maybe Mac watches
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: it and said there are plays there that I'm leaving
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: on the field that I see now from this perspective,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: And you know, we'll go into it when he comes
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: back more confident. But I find it hard to to
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: really draw things that you know, we're going to take
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: out a week four that are gonna matter when you
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: get to December. It's gonna depend on Mac when he
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: comes back and what the offense looks like with him. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: The other thing was we don't know if they're if
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: they're cupcake wins, Like, well, if we go up and
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: beat up on teams of the next day three weeks,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: like bad teams, we don't know if they're cupcakes couping
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: win or if the team is actually better, Like you
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: can't really tell the difference, I know, but let's not
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: forget we're one in three. I mean on a lot
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: of people's schedules, where the cupcake. Well, I hate to
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: say that we are involved in the only game of
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: the weekend between two teams with losing records. Yeah, you know,
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: I hate to say that, but we're you know, for
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: a lot of teams in this league where the we're
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: the ones we should beat these guys, you know, like, well,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: was what was the stat two win teams? How many
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: fifteen fifteen? It's a fifteen two and two teams the
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: most ever through four weeks. I thought Aaron Rodgers look
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: impressively disinterested, even for Aaron Rodgers go and that. But
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: that's kind of my point about if if the game
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: unfolded exactly the same as I don't have I think
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: one hundred percent they win. If Mac Jones plays, I
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: think that the game may have unfolded a little differently
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: if Aaron Rodgers is engaged in the game from the outset. Yeah,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: and says, well, Mac Jones's plant. He said it after
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: the game. We couldn't lose that game and had a
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: third string quarterback plan. I mean, I mean, I'm not
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: crediting him for that. I think that was an embarrassing
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: performance in the first half by him. The pick six
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: was one of the worst players I've ever seen a
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: quarterback mate. He didn't even care at least Drew care
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: like he just went like, yeah, no, it was terrible.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: It was a terrible throw, and a lot of the
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: other throws were just I'm disgusted with my team. I'm
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: mad at you. I'm mad at you. I'm mad at you.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: You're not at my level. You don't belong on the
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: field with me. That's how we played the whole first half.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: You're right, he kind of played the whole game like that.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: He just made some better plays in the second half.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: I am absolutely I'm stunned. I am stunned by how
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: positive people are about Bailey's abbey, Like, I just I
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: understand that he did it and you know, crap down
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: his leg for lack of a better term on Sunday,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: But you watched the film back and he he did
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: without doing it obviously, let me put it to you
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: that way, right, like he didn't turn it over and
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: did intro a bad pick six or fumble the game away? Well,
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: I mean at the end in overtime, right, But we
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: do conveniently forget that he did turn it over. I
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: had a whole conversation about it on the postgame show, Mike,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: and I had to convince a caller no, no, no,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: they did turn it over, and he did turn it over.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: And you know that sack happens in over three seconds.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: But Isaiah Winn gets blamed for it, obviously, and Dappy's
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: coming from the front side, right, and he did in
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: the overtime period, he did. He did grow the game away, honestly,
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: And I am just I understand that Mac has not
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: played terrific football in the first three weeks of the season.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: But if any buddy, any objective observer, watches the three
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: first three games of the year, especially the Pittsburgh and
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: the Baltimore game, and then watches what Bailey's Appy put
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: on tape against Green Bay and thinks that that's close.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: I just don't know. I don't understand I'm gonna play
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: the other seven. You don't under like I. I deal
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: with these fans during the game. Harris is doing well,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: Stevens is doing well, what about Pierre Strong. It's like
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: it's always the next guy, right, like right, So that's
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: what I was gonna say to Evans point. I can
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: kind of understand why people are excited about Bailey's appy,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: even though I agree everything what you just said. I
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: understand that people said, well, he went in the game
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: and we were in lambeau Field and it's twenty four
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: to twenty four run overtime, and he's the guy quarterback
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: the whole game. So I get that. What I don't
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: get is the mac Jones attack that has happened in
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: the last couple of days, Like people saying, you think
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: Max Ankle's feeling better now, No, I think if he
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: had that on his mind at all, it be the opposite.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Do you think that's what's going to replace me my
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: ankle I might need in a couple extra weeks. Now,
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: I know that's not what he's doing. He's gonna try
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: to get back out there I as fast as he can.
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: But I've gotten a lot of people interact with me
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: to tell me mac Jones is one bad, one more
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: bad performance away from getting yanked. I agree with Evan,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: you think there's anything comparable to what Mac Jones did
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: against Baltimore and what Bailey Zappy didn't Green Bay blinded
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: by the immense pleasant surprise. Also, it is more about Mac, right,
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: This is more about how the fan base currently and
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: I should've been because it's just people like the minority
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: that's loud right like, it's just people on Twitter and
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: people that call into the show is like ours like that.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: It's not necessarily everybody but the people that we are
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: hearing right now. I think it's more about Mac and
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: maybe his lack of progression in year two and the
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: fact that he hasn't taken a massive leap forward, and
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: I think to do with Bailey Zappy. But I'll just
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: go to one play, third down in overtime. Everybody's getting
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: on them for not going forward, getting on them for
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: the sequence of plays that led up to that point.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: It's got Hunter Henry wide open in front of him.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: It's a clean pocket. Yeah, all he's gotta do is
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: throw a five yard slant and the first on that play,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: though Evan, I was looking at that, you know from
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: the all twenty two of you, it did seem like
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: in front of him was a little congested. He may
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: not have had the passing lane that people thought. So
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I agree part of the problem Henry was open. I
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: agree with that, but I don't think he had a
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: clear lane to him. That's they brought some pressure, right,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: they brought a five man rush and they stunted it
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: up front and he felt it. And that's when you
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: see the spin move and right. The whole thing is
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: because he felt the pressure coming. But actually the guy
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: that made the great block was from Andre rmandre Is.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Stevenson stands up the looper in the hole and he
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: keeps the pocket clean and Zappie panicked. Yeah, he flat
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: out panicked. And it's okay. He's a third string quarterback
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: in his first ever edifation, Like I'm not saying it,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: like I'm not trying to crap all over the kids say,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: and it's I'm glad that Evan's here to say because
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: I think Mike and I were taken some heat for like,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: if you want to just say he stepped off the
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: bench completely on tests as a rookie fourth round pick,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: as the third stringer, and say he you know the train,
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: didn't you know go spiraling off the tracks, right, that's accurate.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: But now if we're going to compare them to an
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: NFL quarterback, whatever it is saying is accurate too. Yeah,
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: that's all I am saying. I am comparing Bailey Zappy,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: not judging his performance, because in a vacuum what he
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: did on Sunday was admirable. He went out there, he
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: didn't Yeah, he didn't throw the game away when the
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: open throws were really there, like the Parker touchdown at
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: the Agalore passed later on in the game. He made
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: the easy throws that they made presented to him. But
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: when they needed a play in overtime and it was
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: there to be made, he didn't make the play. And
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: I guarantee you on that third and five, they set
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: it up, they have the stack alignment to his left,
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: they get Hunter Henry off the line of scrimmage out
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: of the stack, he's wide open right in front of him.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Mac makes that throw ten times out of ten. And
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: that's just the difference is it's comparing him to mac Jones.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: It's not necessarily comparing the situation and saying that he
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: didn't live up to it or anything like that. But this,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: this kind of push or campaign all of a sudden
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: that Bailey Zappy might be better than Jones's future. To
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: me is what has been kind of surprising. And you
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: guys know, I am sort of in the middle on
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: Mac Jones. I think he's good. I don't know what
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: he is long term, Yeah, but I don't have any
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: questions what he is long term in comparison to Bailey Zappy. Yeah,
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: at least just not based off of what we saw
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: inside now. Yeah, I mean maybe, right, maybe Bailey ZAPPI
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: gets a whole year in the system and he gets
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: you know, maybe a little stronger. He's a small guy. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: And I found like, for me, like, I'm more excited
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: for Mac to come back now because it's just it
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: seems like they're continuing to progress and let's get our
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: guy back. You're going to be excited no matter what
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: ends up. Probably true, Probably true. Probably, I mean that's
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: what you hope though, right is that? Okay? You know
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: the past defense I wrote about it yesterday. Their past
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: defense right now, by pretty much every single important metric
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: at least is top ten in the league. Right their
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: top ten in DVOA, top ten and EPA per drop
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: back like they are a good past defense. They're limitating
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: explosive plays down the field. It takes Aaron Rodgers dropping
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: three dimes on them to get the ball down the
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: field on their past defense. So they have a good
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: past defense. They have a good running game if you
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: can clean up some of the other areas. Like, they
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: don't have to be the best run defense in the league,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: but they can't be three first in the league either, right,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: So you gotta get that better. You gotta hopefully get
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: the offensive line in the right tackle situation figured out.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: If you get those things just marginally better and then
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: you drop NAC back in, now you might be building
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: up to something. I mean, I think that's the hope.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: Do you have any fear, you know, I want to
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: ask a couple of questions. Want I wanted to ask
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: your opinion on Brian Hoyer in that game speed Are
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: you still there? Yeah, oh, I'm sorry, it's like you're
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: on the show. All right, Well, thanks for the call,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: pre but Brian Hoyer, like, let's let's say, you know,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: we're going to hypothetical and Brian Hoyer didn't get a concussion,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: but you know he had to leave the game for
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: whatever reason. And he's available this weekend, wouldn't you feel better?
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: Like just yeah, right, I would because because that, to
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: me is more of a question than mac Jones. I
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: don't think anybody rationally would say I'd rather have Bailey
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Zappy than mac Cols. But the question is, would anybody
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: rather to have Bailey Zappy than Brian Hoyer? And I
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: think a lot of people would rather have Zappy. I
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: wouldn't The zappy love is out of control, Yeah, it's
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: it's just shiny. Yeah. But Hoyer in that game, I
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: thought he made two catchable throws under pressure. The first
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: one Aglar caught, He's wide open. He ran that you know,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: post corner and broke away from man coverage is wide open,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: and he did get barreled down by Rashan Garry's first
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: beat of isaih Win was off the right side and
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Hoyer was able to make a throw. I actually thought
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: the throw on third down to Hunter Henry was also catchable,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: and I thought Henry could have made better adjustment along
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: the sideline there to pull that ball, and he kind
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: of tried to one hand it and didn't really one
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: hand it. So I thought that one to the left
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: sideline third down right drive right before Brian Hoyer gets
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: knocked out of the game. It wasn't a great pass,
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: but he was under pressure. Again. It wasn't a great pass,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: but I thought it was catchable, and you know, I
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: thought Hunter Henry could have made a little bit of
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: a better adjustment on it. So I didn't think that
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: Brian Hoyer threw the ball poorly or played poorly at Yeah,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: I would agree, and we had talked about it earlier.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: He just like he allows you to use your playbook,
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: like you can run your offense with Brian Hoyer and
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: not say, well, we can't do these things with Brian,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: Like I don't know what Bailey Zappy has at his
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: disposal right now. What I saw on Sunday was, you know,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: three coaches really sort of coaxing him through the game. Yeah.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: I mean after the game, I asked him about the
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: post crosser play that hit it for the touchdown of
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: Parker and then they agalor throws two downfield throws were
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: off the same concept, and he said, yeah, when I
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: went in the game, you know, whoever was Patricia Judge
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: comes out, you know, probably came up to him and said,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: what are the three four or five pass plays you
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: feel good about, Like if I call this, are you
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: going to feel good about running? And he said that
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: that was at the top of his list that he
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: felt really good about. The off play actions, you know,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: that type of throw. So that play, I think, and
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: maybe two or three other route concepts were pretty much
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: the whole playbook was zappy under center. A lot of
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: it was play action, A lot of it was, I think,
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: what they'll probably try to do this week against the Lions,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: a little bit more of that under center play action,
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: maybe move the pocket a little bit more, try to
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: get him some easy throws. That that was sort of
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: go to my second one later we can go to
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: the car. All right, let's go to Eddie and Florida.
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: What's up Eddie? Eddie? Hey, guys, all right, all right,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: so I got some lightning round trivia football after my comment.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: But Dappy being the shiny new toy, it's kind of
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: getting ridiculous. And if it's Hoy versus Dappy, come on,
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: you're talking no experience to right start experience. I know, uh.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: And if it comes to Matt Jones, it's a no brainer.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: It's ridiculous, true ridiculous. You would think yeah. I think
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: everyone here are yeah, yeah, no pushback? Is that it? No,
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: he's got lightning thing? All right, don't rain on my career,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: all right? Go Can you hear me? Yes? Alex is
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: waiting for the questions she wants to chime in. I
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: got terrible reception right now. I'm going to try and
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: plug it into my car. Jez, we can hear you. Fine,
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: just just talk say words. Yeah, can you hear me? Fine? Yeah,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: go ahead, Okay, we lost them, Eddie, I'll have I
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: don't know what's going on. Maybe you can call. I
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: think he plugs something in and lost us. Yeah, whatever
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: they did, just get hit by hurricane. Yeah, exactly, Yeah,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: Patty's an agawams Patty? What's going on? Eumby one? Hey,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: I got a question for a round table, and I
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: got a question specifically just for Revans. Don't get offended
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: everyone else, but don't block him in no block question
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: I want to throw out there to everybody, is um,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: do you think um going forward to the rest of
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: the season that they're gonna keep Cannon in as ray
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: tackle unless they've run that that big you know they
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: run with the extra touch offensive linemen as the tight
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: end because it win to me. I mean, like, I
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: don't think he was bad the first few seasons when
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: he was healthy, but he just looks like he's blocked
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: a few miles per hour on his proverbial fastball. And Evan,
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: the question for you, what are you seeing on film
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: on first and borrow more that that's making him sort
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: of not stand out this season or what is he
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: doing or what is he not doing? Tah, he's getting
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: double team lot. He's definitely getting a lot of extra attention,
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: which he got extra attention last year as well. But
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: I think you know he's in that Adam Butler role
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: a lot of the time where they're just asking him
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: to occupy guys and take on multiple blockers, and a
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: lot of the pressure that they're getting is because either
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: the outside guys get one on ones or they're stunting
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: the line and he's the penetrator and somebody's wrapping around
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: him and he's taken on two guys. His role this
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: year is not hasn't at least yet. Ben, We're gonna
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: hunt one on ones for Christian Barmore and let him
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: eat like he's been playing more of a team role.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I guess is the way to that I can best
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: describe it. Whereas if you go and you turn on
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: Kansas City tape and you watch Chris Jones or Rams
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: tape and you watch Aaron Donald like they are hunting
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: one on one matchups, like we're gonna put him at
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: the three technique, we're gonna put him at the five,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: we're gonna put him on the nose, and we're gonna
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: try to get him situations where he's one on one.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: With bar Moore, it's more of a team approach with
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: him right now. I thought some of his run defense
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: table was a little bit better. He gets reached sometimes
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: an outside zone, and I'm sure that that he'll work
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: on that. But so a lot of the things that
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: you see in the pass rush with him is he's
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: going through either a true double team because he's trying
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: to get double teamed, or he's got a one on one,
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: but then the center slides right, so the center will
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: look for work and then come out of nowhere and
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: kind of clean him out from his ear hole. And
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: those are the things that you have routinely seen through
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: the first four weeks, and I think it takes some
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: time too for a younger player like him to learn
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: how to deal with the extra attention, right, I don't
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: think he's quite figured that out yet. Of Okay, just
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: because I'm getting doubled, I still need to get to
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: the quarterback somehow. I still need to make an impact,
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: and I think there might be a little bit of
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: a learning curve going on there. I've just got a
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: lot of philosophical questions about this, and I hear everything
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: you're saying, and it's just I think like the topic
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: then is like is this the best thing for the
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: defense to continue? And I mean this is what DeMarcus
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: Covington's as anytime you ask him about his guys, his group,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: it's you got to take one for the team essentially.
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: And you know, I think we all felt like we're
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: sitting on a player here who maybe not Aaron Donald
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: or Chris Jones, but at the very least if you
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: could get him isolated on some one on one matchups,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: that's a tough, tough matchup for the offensive line. How
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: do you learn to dominate within this kind of setup
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: where they're asking so much of you? You know, and
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: does can this player like I understand Richard Seymour, Vince Wilford,
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: they can dominate while being asked to take on double
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: teams and they can split them and they have the strength.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: You know, like, are we doing Christian Barmore and the
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: defense a disservice by not trying to build more around him.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: It's hard because on the one hand, Judon and Dietrich
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: Wise are eating right. I mean, they both of them
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: are one of the best in terms of tandems in
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: the league. They are up there with in terms of sacks,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: pressure is all that sort of stuff. So they're getting
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: all the one on ones and they're taking advantage of them.
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: So on the one hand, you're like, Okay, well, the
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: team approaches working because Barmore is getting doubled on the interior,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: it's leaving the tackles one on one on the outside
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: and those guys are getting sacks and getting pressures. But
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: on the other hand, like you said, there's only so
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: many players that are on Christian Barmore's talent level on
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: this roster, and would it be nice to see him
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: be able to go one on one a little bit more?
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: I would say yes. Now, I think the biggest issue
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: that he has is that in this system, it's a
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: gap control system, right, So if you have the A gap,
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: you got the A gap. And if he's getting double teamed,
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: he can't go out of his gap, right because he's
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: got to keep his rush laye integrity. But he also
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: needs to be to double team. So it's he's kind
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: of in a tough spot, right, So they're not going
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: to allow him or they don't want him to go
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: from A to B just because he sees a double
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: team in a right. They just would rather him take
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: the double team. And that I think is something that's
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: more philosophical and schematic about what they like to do. Well.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: You said last week when we were talking about the
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: Rams Super Bowl, hearing Bill say, get up field, get
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: up field. You know, is that situationally, do you think
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: we can get them going a little like I mean, yeah,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: not a true Shanahan offense. Maybe this week, but like, yeah,
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: I mean last week against Green Bay, which is a
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: Shanahanny offense for sure. Against outside zone, what they were
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: trying to do is they were trying to force the cutback, right,
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: So they're just firing Juwan Bentley into the line of scrimmage,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: setting the edge of the defense and then forcing the
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: runner to cut back through the middle of the defense.
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: For the reason why Jamie Collins this year is because
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: the linebackers weren't making the tackles. Yeah, there's these gaping
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: holes and they weren't making the tackles. So I was
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: a little bit surprised that they weren't getting more vertical,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: as you were saying, more up the field against those
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: But again, you know, that was sort of the game
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: plan was, We're not going to let them get the edge.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: That's what we're going to take away. We're going to
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: force it back into the teeth of the defense, and
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: we are going to count on our linebackers and our
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: safeties to make tackles. And the linebackers just didn't have
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: a very good game. And I thought they struggled. I mean,
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: Mike and I sort of disagreed a little bit on
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: this yesterday. I thought they struggled up front, especially in
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: the first half. I thought they got pushed around a
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: little bit, and that was kind of across the board.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Judean was really good in the game. I thought he
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: was a constant force. It's been good all year. Yeah, um,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: I didn't. I mean for as great as Dietrich wise
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: has been. I think in the first three games. I
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: thought he was invisible in that game. Um and I
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: thought they ran with with with pretty good success throughout
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: the game and on both sides. Well, it was one
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: play downfield. It was a running play and uh wise
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: was in pursuit, so it was about seven yards downfield
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: and he tried to make a tackle. He bounced off
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: the pile like it was one of those like and
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: he was airborne. Did any of you guys see the
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: Twitter clip that was making the rounds of the Broncos
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: offensive lineman trying to get the Raiders scoop and score
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: fumble touchdown. He got inside the five and he was
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: close enough to dive, but he just sort of jumped
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: up on the ground in the pathetic. It's like when
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: when those guys, like I'm those guys just try to
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: steal second and they slide and they're like in a
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: five yards short of the bag. You know, It's like
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: it looked like it was funny. Oh man, that close though,
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: you just like there's like I just I think he
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: just said to himself, I can't just run right, I
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: better lay to the I better layout right. But he
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: laid out so awkwardly that it it was it was pathetic,
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: Tim and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan rights in. I
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: had a quick question, why what don't you like about
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: Bailey's appy? It seems you guys sound down on him,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: and I'll admit I didn't really watch him in camp,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: but in my opinion, he seems more confident than Mac
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: from what I've seen, and follows through with a few
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: throws we've seen him make in the last game. I'm
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: probably misreading this, but I'd love to hear your opinion.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: Do you guys think there's any chance he could be
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: really good? I haven't seen it yet. I mean, I
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: just I don't know there's something I have against him.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: I mean, I just think he's a rookie fourth round
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: pick who wasn't really ready to play, And even going
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: back to camp, there wasn't a whole lot that you
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: saw from him this summer that made you say, oh
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: there's something. I mean, I think he's looked fine. I
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: thought he had some moments on the practice field. I
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: don't think he looked very good in the preseason games.
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: I'd rather him look good in the practice field than
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: the preseason games. I've said that many times, So I
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: mean this, I think there's some things I just don't
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: know about the skill set. I don't know how I
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: don't know much better he's going to get at six
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: one wink, and having very average mobility and very average
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: arm strength. I don't know how much better he's gonna get.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: I have to say that I heard them busting his
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: chops about six one. I think he is six one
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: because I'm about five to eleven and a half six
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: feet and he's definite. I was standing next to him
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: last week in the locker room and he's definitely a
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: little taller than I am. I was laughing because they
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: were like, he's like his draft profile, Like, dude, we
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: all we read all the stuff. I had to write
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: his draft profile when we got him in like I
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: think it was Lance Zeroline. It's like, you know, short
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: stop pocket passer, and I'm like, what, it's my high
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: school career, short stocky pocket passer. I got a shot.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: I just don't see it. I don't see I don't
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: see what these people are seeing, like out of that game.
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: It's just that you are confident taking a fifteen yards sack,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: like I think people really and this is kind of
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: like the offense thing he didn't know enough to be scared.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: But I think he I mean, I kind of agree whatever.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: And I think there were plenty of times where he
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: kind of looks Yeah, I think he looked confused. But yeah,
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: but like I mean, I just don't know what that means. Expectations.
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: I think everybody thought this kid's gonna go out there
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: and he's so not ready, it's going to be a disaster.
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: And it wasn't, you know. And I have to admit
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: I thought there was a chance that you could turn
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: it over a bunch of times and he didn't. Yeah,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: And that's why I give Patricia and Judge and a
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: for that game, because I think they weren't going to
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: let it be a disaster. I think they managed him
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: really well. There were three or four plays and I
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: mentioned the one in overtime, which is probably obviously the
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: biggest one. There are at least three or four players
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: where he leaves a clean pocket. There's an open receiver
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: downfield and he just leaves the pocket. You know. It's
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: like it's like the offense. I think people heard all
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: of our talk about practice every day and kind of thought,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: we're not even going to get to fourth down, to
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: be able to punt right, like this is gonna be
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden you get a couple
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: of first downs. But it's like, Ohfich is better than
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: I thought. Yeah, Like they got to the red zone
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: once once with Bailey's at one time, they got to
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: the red zone once with Bailey Zappy playing quarterback, and
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: it's like, I wasn't expecting him to do that. Okay, well,
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: I think this might be an expectation problem now because
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: it's an NFL team and scoring seventeen points shouldn't be
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: out of the realm of possibility, right, But I think
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: he did that, and everybody's like, wow, is he better
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: than Mac Jones? Now, I feel like I'm being overly
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: defensive of Mac Jones and I'm already looke forwarm on him. Yeah,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: And I feel like I'm bashing Bailey Zappy because I'm
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: just trying to and I'm not telling people what is
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: actually going on with him, and it's it's just crazy
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: to me that more confident than Mac Jones. First three
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: games of the season, Mac Jones led the league in
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: deep passes. I take nothing away from Bailey's How much
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: more confidence do you want him to be? Then? To
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: throw the ball down the fields like right, uh, Antoine
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: and Montreal. Thanks for the show. Gives me the best
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: alternate to all the hockey talk that happens up, which
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: might might love anyway, maybe it'll seem uninformed, but I
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: don't watch much college football, and all I based myself
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: on are the stats, which, to Paul's point, doesn't always
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: mean much. But how does a guy like Zappy have
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: all these records passing the ball in college but doesn't
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: translate to the pros? I mean, to throw for six
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: thousand yards? He must have had some talent or vision
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: or something. Same thing happened to Kellen Moore, who had
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: all these records at Boise State and then was struggling
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: to get the ball to Calvin Johnson in the pros.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: This is a very This is a whole This is
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: a whole essay. I could write on on that question,
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: but it's look in college, he's at Western Kentucky first
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: of all, so it's not like he's playing Alabama and
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: joy rig and you know, an SEC schedule every single week.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: But Western Kentucky they ran as modern of an offense
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: as you'll ever see. They were spread, they were four
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: or five wide all the time and they just aired
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: it out. I mean he had not only did he
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: break the passing record in terms of yards, I think
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: he also broke the passing record in terms of attempts.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: So he's he's throwing the ball six hundred times. You
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: know it's it was a full on air raid offense
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: where just spread the field and chuck it and he
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: was good at it. He was, which largely has not
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: translated to the NFL. Patrick Mahomes notwithstanding, Yeah, a lot
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: of Texas Tech quarterbacks weren't able to do when Mahomes
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: is done, But wat should that be? Throw the ball?
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: It seemed like it had more zip to it. When
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: Mac throws some passes, I find myself sighing in relief
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: when a receiver catches it, just looking to understand. And
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: I think, if Mac can play, you go with him.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: It's a no brainer. I'm hoping the time off gives
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: Max some time to unwind. He looks so stressed to
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: start the season. Mac looks stress. I don't know. This
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: is all making me want Mac back more and more.
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: You'd like to see what it actually looks like. But
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: the zip thing too bothers me. All this bothers me obviously,
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: because because I don't know what people are watching, I
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: don't know what they're seeing in the zip twenty five
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: yard floated to Parker or the twenty yard floated and which,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: by the way, if he throws that ball in a
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: line to Agalore, it's also a touchdown. But he tried to.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: He lost to get killed the linebacker who's ten yards
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: in front of Agalore. He's so petrified of of throwing
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: the ball to the linebacker instead of Agalore that he
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: puts all the air under it. But the ZIP thing
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: all like, because that's all just in your eyes, right,
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: that's all subjective. It's just all what you your eye
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: test is telling you. Where you don't have there is data,
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: but they don't really share the data on velocity yet, right,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: we don't really have velocity of throws and things like that. Yeah,
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: we have air a distance, but not velocity. But that's
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: all what your eyes are telling you. And I think
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: with a lot of people, they just want their eyes
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: to tell them certain things. That Bailey is appy has
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: got this cannon compared to Mac Jones. Neither guy has
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: a kid. Now, I'll both guys have below average arm
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: talent yep, UM's Eddie's gonna give it another shot, Florida.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: What's up, Eddie? You have the trivia questions ready, Yeah,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: it's all set. Okay, there you go. I got good reception. Nice,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: all right, Paul, this is gonna have to be a
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: lightning round. I don't want to take up too much
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: you guys this time. But it's seventies and eighties Patriots.
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: It's I'm gonna let you choose with a number. I
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: set it up where I give you the number, you
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: give me the name of the seventies and eighties Patriots. Okay,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: twenty four of them will fly through and you get
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: three at the end. Okay, want either way, whatever you
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: have it set up, just let them, let them flip.
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: You switch them up along the way, all right, I will,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: I'll switch it up, all right. Forty eight, Tim Fox fifty,
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: Why shout, I'll pass pass on that one. Oh, Sam Hunt,
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: Sam Hunt forty Stam Hunt good? Forty two? Um we
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: going eighties two. Ronnie Lapette, M sorry, that was the
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: seventies one. That's my bad, because forty two is more
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: associated with Lappette gave himself the buzzer. Okay, I thought
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: we're gonna whip did you get forty two? Though it
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: wasn't Ronnie Lapette, Oh, mac Herron, mac Heron mac all right,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: it's the world's original. Thirty one, Fred Marion, fifty two,
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: Johnny remember ninth seventies twelve Matt Kavanaugh, I haven't even
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: heard of nine fifty nine, fifty nine, fifty nine five nine.
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: I'mnna have to pass on that one one, all right? Clayton?
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: Why s what was that was that one? Twenty six?
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: Ray Clayborne? Sixty sixty is? Uh? What was Pete Brott?
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: I don't have to pass on that one too. Thirty eight,
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: eighty thirty eight, Horace Ivory, No, no, Ike Forte? Who's that? Okay?
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: He Surefi Forte was wore that in the seventies. But
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: the eighties it was Roland James. Then I thought it
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: was a seventies thirty eight in the eighties, Roland James
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: Kay thirty mossy seventy eight in the seventies. All right,
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: Tom Neville, we'll give you in paul A Show later.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: All right, how many of those did I get wrong? Uh?
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: You got most of them right, Okay, He's gonna go
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: with fifty three. Laugh. That's Clayton wy Shoon. Okay, I
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: knew he was in there somewhere. He's like the Randomphis. Great,
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: thank you, thanks Eddie, but unbelievable all remembers all those guys. Um, Yeah,
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: so I have This is the other question I had
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: for Evan. You talked about the past defense. Ye would you,
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: um in your mind try to be trying not to
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: use the numbers for you for this? Do you think
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: that their statistics are more based on the fact that
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: they've played what I would say a three subpar passing
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: games out of four weeks so far with pitt Pittsburgh,
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: Baltimore and Green Bay. I wouldn't put Baltimore in that category.
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: They've been thrown well. But even when they throw it,
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: they don't throw it for a ton of yards. They're
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: gonna your numbers are gonna be good. And that's all.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: It's about his stats. I mean, Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers,
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: no matter what way you cut it. Yeah. And if
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: Romeo dops catches the ball, not very good number. I
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: would say that you can't throw what he catch it too?
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: Was I hear you, I would say that I'm still
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: You're still cautious about it, right, because yeah, I don't think.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: I don't think their secondary. I think their numbers look
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: a lot better than their play. So I'm impressed by
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: the amount how few coverage busts I've seen in four games,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: Like they don't bust coverages. Jack Jones did bust the coverage,
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: but he's a rookie, will give him a break. Is
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: one time. I think I could probably count on one
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: hand how many times they've truly busted a coverage like
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: a guy's going in the wrong place or you know,
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: we see it all the time. I would agree with that, Like,
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: like there's against Miami had just bust correct, haven't seen that, right, Age,
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: I would agree with you. So what I like about
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: what you know I'm getting at is that in order
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: to beat the Patriots secondary, you gotta beat the Patriots
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: secondary like Rogers did in the second half dropping three
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: dimes down the field, like you can't. They're not just
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: giving it to you, And that I can, I can behind.
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: I also like in this Tay and Age, limiting an
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: explosive plays is the name of the game. Every coach
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: you talk to, that's all. They just don't want to
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: give up the chunk plays because you're the rate in
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: which you score improves exponentially if you get a twenty
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: plus yard play, whether it's on the ground, order through
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: the year. So they're not giving up big plays and
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: they're making you earn the yards. Now, are they a
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: dominant secondary? Is this you know, hand At eighteen nineteen
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: or the Legion of Boom or something like that. No,
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: certainly not. But they're making you earn it. And I
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: think what we saw it at Jack Jones, who had
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: an up and down game. I know, the turnovers really
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: stand out, and the pick six was was really good technique.
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: But I think overall what you saw at Jack Jones
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: is really positive. And not to pick on the person
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: that everybody else picks on, but if someday down the road,
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: Miles Bryant is the odd man out and it ends
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: up being the Joneses and Jalen Mills, I think that
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: that secondary looks really really good on paper, especially with
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: how good they are at safety. So is it as
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: good as the numbers suggests. Maybe not, But I think
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: that the fact that they challenge you and make you
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: earn the yards instead of just these other defenses that
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: bus coverages all the time. I like that about their secondary.
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: Let's go to Eldred and North Carolina. Hey, Eldred, Hey,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: fellows and lady, how you doing. Hello Eldred. Hey, I'm
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: sorry about yesterday. I got pulled over the waste station
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: doing me and the cop talking, Oh yeah, did you
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: have all your papers? You have to keep it low? Yeah,
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: on my paperwork. Yeah. Hey know what I'm talking. How
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: to keep it low, aren't you? Yeah, it's something to
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: get through those long drives. I was a short driver.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: I'm local, but you still gotta go to a waste station. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: So that was that on that though, but I got
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: a question off something that means a couple of guys around.
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: He was kicking around about the Patriots. This we got
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: because we didn't keep legend by the go buy him
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: like you don't want to play there? And pet Brown,
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: I want to play on the left side. Do you
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: think it's the issue with the money because they slopped
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: We know if I'm on the right side, I'm not
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: gonna get the contract with the lift that and Brown
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: want to be on the right side, but not to
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: lift side because he's not getting paid for the left side.
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: Could be my money's always a fifty. Brown has played
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: a lot better. I think, you know, after the first game, awesome,
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: he was really good. He's out there flexing, But I'm
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: sure he wants to get paid left tackle money, jumping
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: those snaps. He wants to get played the left tackle money.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: If he plays like he did on Sunday, He's gonna
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: get paid left tackle money. Isaiah Win's thing. God help
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: whoever does. I don't think olough. He's a two year
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: deal regardless of if he's left or right. First of all,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: right tackles get paid now too, not quite as much
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: as left tackles do, but they still get paid. And
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: he's in a contract year. I mean, I just there's
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: no incentive to me for Isaiah Win to mail it
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: in like hell, But I think, but I wonder how
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: he feels about this decision and how he feels about
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: being a right tackle. That's that's my thing, not so
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: much like I'm not playing the right tackle. I mean,
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: is it harder to just switch? It is hard? I think,
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: you know, I'm going into my free agent year and
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: I'm asked to be playing a patient I've never played,
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: and I don't like one. Right, I don't know that's
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: what I say to kick out this way. I think
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: it's the footwork right, because I mean their hand placement
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: stuff is obviously opposite as well. But your post foot
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: and your outside foot are now different feet. So the
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: foot you're driving off of when you're kicking out to
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: slide and pass protections are different. It's the opposite foot.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: So your whole life, you're training the your your right
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: foot on the left side to be your stronger foot
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: and be that really that driving foot, and now they're
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: asking you to drive off your left foot, and it's
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: a completely different technique at that point. So I do
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: wonder about about that a lot. The pre snap stuff too, though,
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: Like that's not you know, that's the stuff where it's
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: like you're mentally engaged, like you're jumping the snap. I
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: mean multiple times penalties. I mean, how many penalties he's
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: had at this point. Well, you know, the more you
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: have to think about, the more you are apt to
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: make those pre snap mistakes, you know. Yeah, I mean
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: it couldn't have no excuse on his part. I just
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: wonder what the whole process was with this whole switch,
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: And I mean I think it goes back to we've
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: talked about it, but I mean, it's as I say it,
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: when nobody ever considered he would move to right tackle
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: like that was came out of nowhere. I think I'm
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: assuming it came out of my Yeah, well that was
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: with him was an all pro guard right on the left,
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: a third tight end. Yeah yeah, I still like, yeah, good.
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, but Paul, I agree with I
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: agree with Hardy and then uh and then over time
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: win overtime laud Why didn't you just you know, I
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: know you don't want to push the kid, but why
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: did you get to a play action and then moved
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: about we kicking the game and winning instead of watching
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: hair and come back? In retrospect, yeah, I mean, I
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: would have thought you'd be able to line up three
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: times run it for a first down. The other way
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: you ran it all game, But in retrospect, I wish
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: we had taken a shot. No, I can't lie from
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: from the TV. Thing from from the couch and my
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: girlfriend to me be quiet because I had the baby
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: custom too, so I was cousin. He was custing market.
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: Good for you add that a boy the next generation cousin. Now, yeah,
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: they ran it for four yards on first down five
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: four or five second and five. Yeah, and yeah, that's
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: it's a second guest for sure. Yeah, um Cole and
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: Eugene Oregon. I'd like to know why Paul considers Dan
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: Campbell to be the worst coach at football. From what
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: I understand, he started in twenty twenty one with an
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: abysmal Lions team. That's not quite true, though, is it
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: that improved and started winning games at the end of
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: the last year. They went from one of the worst
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: to one of the best offenses in the league. Statistically,
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: They developed a young star wide receiver, the quarterback is
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: playing well, and they seem to have built a cohesive
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: team identity, fast and loose. As Duke says, what's with
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: all the hate for Dan Campbell? Paul, good question. He's
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: four sixteen and one is the Lion's head coach. But
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: they play hard for him, probably hard for him. I
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: watched Hard Knocks, I really, I mean, I thought at
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: first he seems like kind of a caricature of of this,
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: but he really lives it. And and I think that
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: the guys see that there's certainly fast and loose on
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball. But I mean, how
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: can you not and again doing we're working, so we're
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: not watching play by play of every Lions game. I
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: can tell you someone who does watch play by play
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: of every Lions game. Hardy No, my good, My good, buddy,
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: Dan Ventura. Okay, okay, Hardy's working with us, so he's
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: not watching the game, watches the replay, loves the Lions. Wow.
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: And every week it's the same thing on Twitter. It's like,
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: why are we going for this one? What is he doing?
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: He's costing us again, he costs us a chance to
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: win the game. That's that happened in the Minnesota game,
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: and it happened to a lesser extent in the Seattle game.
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: I think that to give him credit for the offense,
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: that's a stretch. It's also been a pretty cupcake schedule defensively,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: I mean the Seahawks defenses. Philadelphia has been pretty good
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: defensive One that game that really looks good on paper
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: for Detroit is that Philadelphia game. But they're running the ball.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: They're averaging five point nine yards per carry right now.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: All the six yards to carry and the whole league
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: thing is just you know, I told you guys before
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: two high safety shells load up against the pass playing
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: twenty two and twenty pound guys at linebacker positions. And
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: the Lions, and I think the Patriots to an extent
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: to have been kind of going. The league is running
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: the ball, and I would tell you that that's why
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: scoring is down throughout the league. Yeah, I mean past
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: everybody's runnings down because teams are playing a lot more
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: of this split safety stuff and building out their defense
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: personnel wise to defend the pass. And now guys like
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: Dan Campbell, even in Bill Belichick, I would say, is
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: adhering to this as well as we're just gonna run
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: you over then, And the Lions are So I asked
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: this to the other people on the show. I'll ask you, Evan,
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: if for this game, who would you rather have back
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: one hundred percent Lawrence Guy or Hoyer? Lawrence Sky Hoyer. Interesting,
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: I would say Lawrence Guy because this is a gap
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: downhill attack that the Lions use. They're not zone, they're
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: not trying to get outside zone going and stuff like that.
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: They are trap wham power like right downhill at you.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: So in that type of game, that's a Lawrence Guy
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: type of game. Right. You got guys on a lot
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: of scrimmage that can take on double teams and be
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: able to hold the point of attack like this is
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: one of those style of games. So I would say
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: Lawrence guy to that, everybody said guy except Paul. He
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: said Hoyer, but I thought I thought he had good
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: reason for I just think that you need to have
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: your offense in this game. I don't think it's realistic
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: that you're gonna win this game seventeen thirteen. And I
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: don't have a lot of confidence that Bailey z Abby
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: can score thirty, right, So I'd rather have a guy
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: who I think, Brian Hoyer against this defense could score thirty. Yeah.
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: Irma in Flint, Michigan. A lot of Michigan listeners and callers,
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: writers and callers today, I've been hearing the Zappy talk
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: and just wanted to give my opinion as to why
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: people are saying they want to see him. First, people
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: who want to see Zappy over the development of Jones
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: are out of their minds. Jones should be playing when
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: he's ready. Second, the people who are talking about Zappy
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: over Hoyer, I think just want to take a new
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: toy out of the toy box to see what they've got.
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: It seems to me that if you punt on the season,
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: some people would rather see the kid versus Horrior, since
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: we know that's what hoyer ceiling is. I agree that
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: if you're going to be chasing the playoffs, every possible
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: win is important, and Horrier should start. But if you
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: would rather see what the kid does, to hell with
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: the win total, I can see that too. If you
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: lose to Detroit and Cleveland, then I would say sure
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: until yeah, until mac Jones is ready, I'd rather see Zappy.
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: But I still think they were one of three last
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: year and made the playoffs. Why can't you do it
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: again with all these two and two teams. I think
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: you need to try to win the games, and I
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: think Hoyer gives you a better chance to win if
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: you fall out of it. I would rather see Zappie
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: play than than Brian Hoyer. I would agree with the
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: listeners that, yeah, I get it how last year down
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: the stretch has sour people on that whole season. But
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: like you just said, they were one and three and
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: two and four last year and then they rattle off
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: seven straight wins, they win ten games and make the playoffs.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: Like that is still very much in play. The schedule
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: from this point on to Thanksgiving is not very difficult.
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: I mean, you're playing a bunch of teams below five hundred.
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: I think they're ten thirteen and one. The combined record
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: of the next six games of those teams have better
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: records than us. Yes, but you're able to see a
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: path here too. When Nago play Buffalo on Thursday night
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: after Thanksgiving, the Patriots, could they win, you know, six
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: out of the next seven or even five out of
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: the next seven and get themselves around five hundred to
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: be back in it. I think the answer is yes. Yeah,
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: Juan and Mexico. I'm so sick that some fans saw
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: Zappy make two wide open passes and immediately believe he's
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: in next Tom Brady. It's the same as last year
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: over hyping Mack during the winning streak by just being okay, yes,
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: if Thornton gets to play this season, well that uh
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: sentons born to be traded or cut. Yeah. I think
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: that's a great point. It's a really interesting We're going
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: to talk about this on Patriots Catch twenty two. Can't wait.
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: I did the market tease, but yeah, when Tayclon comes back,
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: I mean they're already playing four wide receivers. There's already
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: not enough snaps for Kendrick Bourne's. Now you got five
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: wide receivers. You draft the guy in the second round,
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: you're gonna want to play him. He's not gonna say
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: he is coming back. Worden's going to come back. He
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: wouldn't have been out there a practice today if they
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: didn't think he had a chance to come back. So
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: two's odd man out at this point. You gotta be somebody. Yeah,
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: it's an interesting thing with two. When you consider Myers
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: and Agalore contracts up next year, you think maybe you
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: could turn one of those spots over to him, But
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: how do you get him the snaps now to get
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: them that experience so you feel comfortable maybe letting Aglo
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: wak I mean I said you should keep Myers. I
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: think he has a place, but you know you're really
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: in the position now to play Thornton over Agalore. As
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: as with anticipation of that, I don't know's it's tough.
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: I've always spending to me, they're best separat I mean,
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: Parker and Agile are both on the first day of camp. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: that's been I would agree with you. Matt and Devon UK.
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: So I like to win and play to win every
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: game as much as anyone. But do you think we
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: are best off in the long run if we lose
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: the games to teams close to us? I mean this.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: I mean this as if we keep ending the season
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: with about a five hundred record and picking around twelve
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: to fifteen in the draft, are we ever going to
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: get those stud players to really turn this around and
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: get back to contending. I just wonder if we are
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: better off having that one bad season and have a
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: top six or seven pick and able to get a
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: real difference maker. Yeah, think you can get real difference
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: makers in the team. And how many teams are picking
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: top ten year, Like if you need a quarterback ten
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: if you need a quarterback. If you need a quarterback,
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: then I would say, yeah, maybe they're better off just
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: having a terrible year. I don't think they'll take a
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: quarterback now if they had a top five pick. I
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: don't think they would. I'm telling you why wouldn't. I
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: don't think they would. Why can't you get a really
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: good player at sixteen? You can? You can got Mac Jones,
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: Audrey writes in She says, Paul, I think people may
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: be confused about how you feel about Zappy because you
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: have clearly said on other days that he has a
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: better arm than Mac, that he was the best arm
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: in camp. I think he does have a better round
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: than Mac. I don't think either one of them has
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: a really good arm. Okay, can we go back to
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: the draft question for a second, because my biggest thing
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: with it is, are any of us in this room
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: convinced that Bill would actually pick in the top ten
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: and not trade the pick? No, we already talked about
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: that too, because that's gonna I'm all for. You know,
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: if you're gonna be right in the middle, if you're
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: gonna be fifteen like they were a few years ago,
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: then I'd rather be top ten than be fifteen and
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: not try to, you know, make a push at all.
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: But is he gonna make the pick? Like, if they
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: have the seven picking the in the draft, are they
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: making that pick? Well, I mean they might, you know,
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: we when's what's the highest pick they've had in a
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: long time? Ten? Right? Well? Mac was fifteen? Yeah, I
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: mean yeah, Seymour was six. Well, fifteen, It is probably
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: the answer to that question. Yeah, So like we haven't
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: seen it. Like, if I'm sure, if there was someone
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: that Bill loved in the top seven, he would pick
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: the person. But if if he thinks he can get
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: equal value by trading down, he's going to do that.
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: I'd rather have the Like I said earlier in the show,
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: I'd rather have the currency. I know a lot of
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: people said, what's the sense of having a top five pick.
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: He's not going to use it. Well, he'll use it.
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: He just might use it as currency to get more
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: picks a little lower. Either way, I'd love to have
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: that high pick. But I feel like that's how we
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: get into this this issue of not having any top
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: end talent. Because if they have a top ten pick
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: and c J. Strout is still on the board and
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: some team wants to give them the RG three package
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: to move up to draft CJ. Stratt, he's taking it.
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: We all know he's taking it. But then when you
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: run into the issue is that, Okay, well they just
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: traded seven to trade down to nineteen, and now all
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: the blue chip prospects are off the board at nineteen, right,
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: and now you're picking, you know, another another one of
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: those kind of starter caliber players but not actually a
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: difference maker or a blue chip or whatever. You want
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: to call it, but I mean you also have the
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: twenty twelve draft where they, you know, took two guys
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: in the first round that were in the twenties that
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: both ended up being really good. You can get better players,
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: So I got it. And I also don't think that
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: it's as easy as you just tank. You have one
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: bad year and then you get an awesome player and
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: then all as well, like there's a lot that goes
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: into losing those you tank and you get that one
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: great player. Unless it that one great players a quarterback,
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: it doesn't. And that's why I said I'm not necessarily
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: in favor of because I'm not sure that they would
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: write like CJ. Stratt, I don't know if they would
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: take him. No, I think that they probably still feel
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: feel pretty good about mac Jones. Yeah I would, as
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: I don't know if you're in position to get the
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: best quarterback on the draft next year if he would
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: take it, right, But also sorry, Fred, I know you're
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: trying to get the lead up, but like you can't
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: just tank and like everyone's gonna be like, well, we
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: just tanked and now we're all back, Like you're gonna
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: lose guys, You're gonna lose fans, like the whole perception
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: of the team. You start losing to Cleveland's and the
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: detroits of the world, Like it's it's not that simple,
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: it's just we'll lose it. Can get that guy and
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: then oh, you know, we're back on track. Like it's
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: hard and you can do it the other way by
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: hit good players, doesn't matter. I think they're good players
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: in the draft. You gotta hit and find some stars. Well, listen,

- 1:57:59Speaker 1: with a better RL than that. I mean, you know,
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: so not to not to trigger Evan again him fired up.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: I think the bailey'sz appy thing is is funny to me.
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: And listen, I do think he like if you're just
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: gonna line up and throw the ball. I think you're
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: gonna like the way it looks coming off of Bailey
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: z Appy's hand probably a little better than mac Jones.
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: Everything else is so far in a way better for
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: mac Jones, like accuracy, decision making, experience, size, mobility, like
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: there's nothing else. I think that Bailey's appy. When he
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: throws the ball, it spins really tight. I think he
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: throws the ball well, not hard. He doesn't have a
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: strong arm. I think it might be a little like
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: if he matched it up one on one with mac Jones,
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: his might be he might throw it a little bit
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: more velocity. Hand size at all, hands he's small. I
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: tell you that nine in a quarter. I can look
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: it up. But I mean so when I say that
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: I think he has a better on than mac Jones,
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: it doesn't mean I want him throwing the ball more
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: than I want Max's throwing. Ye just means I think
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: you throw us a little bit harder than Macca. All right,
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: Coming up is the Catch twenty two show with Evan
