Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Ribbon has been cut on the CRL.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Two, one, thank you!
- 0:07Speaker 1: National wants a dedicated Auckland Transport Police squad of 50
- 0:10Speaker 1: if re-elected.
- 0:11Speaker 3: No Aucklander should feel unsafe catching a train or a bus,
- 0:14Speaker 3: whether they're heading to work in the morning, travelling home
- 0:17Speaker 3: late at night, or simply moving about the city with
- 0:19Speaker 3: their family.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Auckland Councillor Alf Villapina with me this morning. Alf, good morning.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Tata, my dear Ryan, how are you?
- 0:26Speaker 1: Very well, thank you. Always good to have you on
- 0:28Speaker 1: at Brighton Early, Alf. Tell me, I was speaking to
- 0:31Speaker 1: someone yesterday who was out and about and one of
- 0:35Speaker 1: the national candidates was doing the round and said that
- 0:38Speaker 1: apparently one of the top three issues for central Aucklanders
- 0:44Speaker 1: is safety on public transport.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah, the interesting thing is that it's been around a
- 0:53Speaker 2: couple of years, maybe longer, around getting the government involved
- 0:58Speaker 2: to end up establishing the transport police, and there was
- 1:03Speaker 2: pushback from them, and now they're going to do it.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I think the police association chief executive sort of put
- 1:17Speaker 2: it right when he mentioned that, look, yes, it'll be
- 1:22Speaker 2: good if the 50x do in fact come in in
- 1:26Speaker 2: the 500 and have it. But I personally hope it
- 1:30Speaker 2: does come in because I've been consistent in saying that
- 1:35Speaker 2: we need to protect our community in particular within the
- 1:40Speaker 2: CRL along with the transport officers.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah, worst thing for a CRL patronage is some sort
- 1:48Speaker 1: of stabbing, I would have thought. Hey, how's it going?
- 1:50Speaker 1: Have you been on the train yet?
- 1:53Speaker 2: Well, yes, it did. Sorry, yes, I did. In the morning,
- 1:56Speaker 2: I caught the train from Motahu, and then when we
- 2:00Speaker 2: got to Waitematā, we then got asked to leave because
- 2:05Speaker 2: of the electrical fire. So that was interesting, waiting outside
- 2:10Speaker 2: until everything, when the fans came through to put the
- 2:14Speaker 2: electrical fire out. But it was just so cool to
- 2:18Speaker 2: travel in the first train, through to the town. So yeah,
- 2:23Speaker 2: definitely been on there now, so that's cool.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Nice one. Al Philip Hiner with us, Auckland Councillor.
