- 0:05Speaker 1: Approache production.
- 0:22Speaker 2: By Baby Baby.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, baby, say baby, Hi?
- 0:41Speaker 1: Can we talk about that ship?
- 0:43Speaker 4: What's your what is it? Can't see it's camouflage?
- 0:48Speaker 5: Is a camo? Welcome back to the sheds thanks to
- 0:51Speaker 5: the Queensland Bone.
- 0:53Speaker 4: It's been a broncos he's around, however, but the moment
- 0:56Speaker 4: where was Ben Hunter is on for one more year?
- 0:59Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Forty? I think?
- 1:01Speaker 5: Is that right? Will? What will he bet? You'll be
- 1:04Speaker 5: fair to set? Yeah? Thirty seven? Were you when you
- 1:07Speaker 5: hung up the boots? It's thirty three?
- 1:09Speaker 4: Yeah, And if your body had allowed it, would you
- 1:13Speaker 4: have gone on?
- 1:14Speaker 6: No?
- 1:15Speaker 5: Mine was more what my body was.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Okay, I don't know if I could have done another
- 1:20Speaker 4: pres I didn't want to train.
- 1:22Speaker 5: I wanted to play. I could to play forever. The
- 1:24Speaker 5: training is the hard part.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's what I remember when Alfie his
- 1:31Speaker 4: last season, they led him train so once or twice.
- 1:33Speaker 5: They didn't work for Alfie because, yeah, because he was
- 1:36Speaker 5: still drinking five times a week. That was the drama.
- 1:41Speaker 1: That's how it happens.
- 1:42Speaker 5: But yeah, I reckon. Yeah, I still had I still
- 1:45Speaker 5: had footing in me.
- 1:46Speaker 4: But yeah, that's the hardest part is you don't you
- 1:49Speaker 4: don't want to go to I was already being modified
- 1:52Speaker 4: in the gym and modified on the training pad when
- 1:54Speaker 4: it came to pre season training and you just feel like,
- 1:58Speaker 4: you feel like.
- 1:59Speaker 5: I'm not doating the best?
- 2:00Speaker 1: But am I right?
- 2:01Speaker 2: And saying you know that last year you had at
- 2:04Speaker 2: least one day one less training session, because.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah I did.
- 2:07Speaker 4: I know I had alternate training as well, So I
- 2:10Speaker 4: wouldn't do weights with you guys. I'd go and do
- 2:12Speaker 4: some other yeah, and mobility stuff. But it's just like
- 2:15Speaker 4: and like that's hard.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Like you think about game and remember how you think
- 2:19Speaker 2: I was joking about you could you have played? It's
- 2:21Speaker 2: not a joke about you're not talented. It's about your
- 2:24Speaker 2: body actually has to be able to take the hits. Yeah,
- 2:29Speaker 2: it's not about like the skill and all, it's not
- 2:32Speaker 2: always it's about actually can you take the hit?
- 2:34Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Every week, ten times a week? Maybe more like can
- 2:38Speaker 2: you do it? And that's that's what when you don't
- 2:41Speaker 2: train as much. We're older, like, and your body's more
- 2:45Speaker 2: resilient and gets used to it more.
- 2:46Speaker 5: But you're like, yeah, but yeah, recovery is harder.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Can I do it again next year? And that's what
- 2:54Speaker 2: I think the big question always is.
- 2:56Speaker 1: For you when you want to go again, there aren't
- 2:57Speaker 1: many thirty five, thirty six year olds that can continue
- 3:01Speaker 1: to do it. And do you think bends one of them?
- 3:05Speaker 1: Are they going to use him? Like, you know, could
- 3:07Speaker 1: he play eighty minutes all year? I probably? I don't
- 3:10Speaker 1: think he probably could, like the way the game is, like, yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 1: it's hard, faster, Yeah, I truly believe that.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Game that the game is right now limiting players career.
- 3:22Speaker 2: It may limit players careers, like how long they can play,
- 3:25Speaker 2: just because of the the way the game is. So
- 3:27Speaker 2: for those I think, you know, what are they going
- 3:29Speaker 2: to do with him? I don't know, but I still
- 3:31Speaker 2: think he can change games with the time that he
- 3:35Speaker 2: gets on the field, Like he's still very smart, skillful dude,
- 3:38Speaker 2: Like two years ago, you.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Remember won Origin not through.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Go thru skill, but like you know, through effort, And
- 3:47Speaker 2: that's so that's what he's going to bring again like
- 3:49Speaker 2: for the year, like and you know leadership, which yeah, Samuel,
- 3:54Speaker 2: you know that's where fair about it.
- 3:56Speaker 4: I know That's where I'm leaning more towards my theory
- 3:59Speaker 4: in and around it. At the end of the day,
- 4:01Speaker 4: is I think it might be a lesson learned from
- 4:04Speaker 4: the club. I look back to when Lockie retired. So
- 4:09Speaker 4: Locky retires in twenty eleven. If I get my numbers
- 4:12Speaker 4: right here, then you go to twenty fifteen. Hodgo retires,
- 4:16Speaker 4: twenty sixteen, Corey Parker twenty eighteen, ZM. Thriday twenty nineteen,
- 4:22Speaker 4: Darius Boyd twenty twenty.
- 4:25Speaker 5: After that, Alex Clan retires.
- 4:27Speaker 4: So like we've lost, like we had lost over over
- 4:32Speaker 4: a thousand games of rugby league, probably a lot more
- 4:34Speaker 4: than my master isn't great, but yeah, there's there's Locky
- 4:39Speaker 4: Locky three hundred yeah, way more than a thousand.
- 4:41Speaker 5: Maybe almost two thousand, almost two.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Thousand three, three hundred three.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, there you go almost. But you lost so much,
- 4:56Speaker 5: so many games.
- 4:57Speaker 4: But SENI the leadership in and around the club, and
- 5:00Speaker 4: what happens is the you know, the fallout was we
- 5:03Speaker 4: end up doing something that the Broncos never should.
- 5:06Speaker 5: Have done, and that was win a wooden spoon.
- 5:08Speaker 4: So you got to think the Broncos at the moment,
- 5:11Speaker 4: paynhass going to South Sydney next year. You've got Adam Reynolds,
- 5:15Speaker 4: a senior player who is retiring. So then you've really
- 5:20Speaker 4: only got what Patrick Carrigan around Catoni Staggs. You know,
- 5:26Speaker 4: he wants to be a leader in the sense that
- 5:28Speaker 4: he will lead by example. He doesn't want to be
- 5:30Speaker 4: a part of the leadership, and that's the way, and
- 5:32Speaker 4: that's that's how it's fine, and that's leading. At the
- 5:34Speaker 4: end of the day, he knows and understands his strength.
- 5:37Speaker 4: So maybe it's an opportunity to keep a senior leader
- 5:40Speaker 4: around for those guys like Jonah Peasant coming to the club,
- 5:45Speaker 4: for the Duffies who are still at the club, you know,
- 5:48Speaker 4: learning from these guys. I think he will be a
- 5:51Speaker 4: bench player going forward over the next couple of seasons
- 5:55Speaker 4: and then a great feeling half back when the opportunity
- 5:58Speaker 4: comes through injury. So at the end of the day,
- 6:01Speaker 4: I've got to give Dose a ten out of ten
- 6:02Speaker 4: for getting a contract at that age because I asked,
- 6:06Speaker 4: it didn't come my way.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously I didn't take it.
- 6:12Speaker 5: I was done. Yeah you were done like five years
- 6:15Speaker 5: before that, yeah, yeah, four and six years younger then yeah,
- 6:21Speaker 5: thirty yes, yeah.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Corey Parkers come out and said he shouldn't have done it.
- 6:25Speaker 5: He's done and.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and his reasoning was because he thinks that's what
- 6:30Speaker 2: pushed out the younger boy.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Is that right, that's correct? Yeah, salary salary cap salary
- 6:35Speaker 1: can I call not called bs? I don't, but I don't.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I don't think that's the whole and soil hold the
- 6:42Speaker 2: whole reason why I look at our salary cap and
- 6:45Speaker 2: I think it's shot. I think you look at our
- 6:48Speaker 2: players while she Paddy Ezra who are missing, Yeah, they're
- 6:55Speaker 2: all on seven hundred plus, like two of them are
- 6:57Speaker 2: probably on a million.
- 6:59Speaker 1: You know, there's what a thirty salary cap in four
- 7:02Speaker 1: five players.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's a lot of money and tied up
- 7:06Speaker 2: in that many people, you know, I you know, Gamshuazaki
- 7:13Speaker 2: unfortunately hasn't been playing his greatest football either, and the
- 7:16Speaker 2: brons will be looking at that like, you know, I
- 7:18Speaker 2: can't take a chance on you if you played one
- 7:20Speaker 2: good season and that's what they're always big on, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 2: And he probably got off a double amount of money
- 7:26Speaker 2: somewhere else. Who's to say, you know, he's not going
- 7:30Speaker 2: because when you when you're older, like you don't chase money.
- 7:34Speaker 2: But you're like, well I don't have a good a
- 7:36Speaker 2: lot longer, A long time left in my career. So
- 7:39Speaker 2: I'm taking the best opportunity I can to get the
- 7:42Speaker 2: most out of this game.
- 7:43Speaker 5: What percentage is he is he gone? You reckon? Is
- 7:46Speaker 5: he is? He definitely going to go?
- 7:47Speaker 2: I got no idea. I don't know if he's been
- 7:49Speaker 2: off it. I honestly have no idea. But that could
- 7:51Speaker 2: be the reason why the players leave. Like you can't
- 7:54Speaker 2: say our salary cap, he's got a lot of room.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Like you know, we bought Janah peasident, We've We've just
- 8:00Speaker 2: kept that young fella Duffy. You know there's young there's
- 8:04Speaker 2: young props coming through with Xavier Willison.
- 8:06Speaker 1: He's going to be getting a fair bit of coins
- 8:08Speaker 1: soon because you know he's worth it. I just I
- 8:11Speaker 1: don't think people, I don't think.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I know, you can't keep everyone, and our team is
- 8:17Speaker 2: going to start disappearing like the team that everyone remembers
- 8:21Speaker 2: from last year. It may not it won't be half
- 8:24Speaker 2: that team maybe in three four years. And that's just
- 8:27Speaker 2: the way that's what happens in rugby league. So to
- 8:29Speaker 2: say that he's pushed him out, I don't believe that.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I don't believe.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I don't believe he would have taken more than four hundred.
- 8:34Speaker 2: I really don't, and I believe Gebuzaki would be probably
- 8:39Speaker 2: expecting more. So my theory is, yeah, I think it's
- 8:43Speaker 2: the salary cap and what they have left, which I
- 8:47Speaker 2: don't think they would have March.
- 8:48Speaker 5: Have they got room for Gags Dan Dane Gag. Either's
- 8:52Speaker 5: talk about him maybe coming now.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's doing really well outside of the game,
- 8:56Speaker 2: and I think that's all in Newcastle.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Right When I say that business and stuff.
- 9:01Speaker 5: I'm not one hundred percent sure.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a conversation I had a few years
- 9:05Speaker 2: ago now that as my final season or the back
- 9:09Speaker 2: end of my second last year, and I was just
- 9:10Speaker 2: chatting Tom. I think I told him that I was
- 9:12Speaker 2: probably going to finish up soon and we started talking.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I asked him and he was just telling me that
- 9:18Speaker 2: he's doing really well. They're not in the game, but
- 9:21Speaker 2: also outside. But to be honest, he's probably played one
- 9:24Speaker 2: of his best seasons for a time now. But yeah,
- 9:27Speaker 2: I find it hard to believe that he would leave
- 9:31Speaker 2: if that's the case down there for him, with the
- 9:33Speaker 2: business side of.
- 9:36Speaker 5: His life, all his focus.
- 9:38Speaker 4: We've got about next year, which has been throughout this
- 9:40Speaker 4: week because we don't want to look about what's happening
- 9:42Speaker 4: right now because the season is done.
- 9:46Speaker 5: He kind of feels like that, to be honest, it
- 9:49Speaker 5: does already.
- 9:50Speaker 4: We have a really really tough class this week against
- 9:53Speaker 4: the Roosters, who are playing some good footage.
- 9:55Speaker 5: Yeah, on Friday night, and it's yeah, this is always a.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Classic clash at some Corps Stadium, Rooster's Friday Night. It's
- 10:07Speaker 4: you know, it could be the game of the round
- 10:09Speaker 4: if the Broncos show up and that's and that's what
- 10:12Speaker 4: we need them to do. Otherwise, yeah, we can. We'll
- 10:14Speaker 4: continue having these conversations about next year and the.
- 10:17Speaker 5: Year after and the year after.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Would you agree if I say this is their season.
- 10:22Speaker 4: This game, Yeah, they are. They're playing for the season. Yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 4: because it's they're going to have to do it the
- 10:31Speaker 4: long way around. But yeah, this is the game that
- 10:35Speaker 4: they are playing for their season this Friday night.
- 10:39Speaker 5: I agree.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I had nothing else that. Yeah, that's how I've been thinking.
- 10:45Speaker 2: If there's a game to really have a run home,
- 10:49Speaker 2: this is it, you know, And especially with like you said,
- 10:53Speaker 2: the classes we have had in the past, these are fiery.
- 10:57Speaker 2: You know, Russ come.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Here and I don't think they ever they ever play bad.
- 11:02Speaker 5: Yeah, and they've got forms at the moment they hurt
- 11:05Speaker 5: down the sharks. Marky marks on fire, Lindsay Collins. All
- 11:08Speaker 5: of a sudden, he's a try scoring forward. What's happening?
- 11:11Speaker 5: How good? Oh put yourself in the picture, kids.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Poor niggas. At the start of the year, I think,
- 11:17Speaker 1: I think, I can't.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I don't know, but he has been playing bad, Lindsay like,
- 11:21Speaker 2: but I just think that since Origin, he's just gone
- 11:25Speaker 2: to the level.
- 11:26Speaker 1: And that's what Origin does.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Sometimes we're talking about Origin. That was a cracking game.
- 11:30Speaker 5: Oh far, that was so good.
- 11:32Speaker 4: And you know what I loved about it, as Lindsay's try,
- 11:35Speaker 4: I've never seen the front rower sprint twenty minutes so
- 11:37Speaker 4: far he was.
- 11:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Everyone talks about the setup blah blah blah. I'm surprised
- 11:43Speaker 2: you didn't bring this up.
- 11:44Speaker 1: But the work he did before that, he pushed through
- 11:47Speaker 1: on the play before he was through the line.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Yeah, he sprints back, yeah to find the playaball to
- 11:53Speaker 2: actually be an option to take the next carry.
- 11:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:55Speaker 2: But not only does he do that, Harry jumps. He
- 11:59Speaker 2: pushes through and sprints and gets you off. Like, if
- 12:03Speaker 2: you're going to talk about Origin, player, and that's that, Like,
- 12:06Speaker 2: that's what it's about.
- 12:07Speaker 5: That's the old preseason conditioning game.
- 12:09Speaker 1: That's the game.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Yeah, we used to play this conditioning game. And yeah,
- 12:13Speaker 4: like even if you didn't pass it to the person,
- 12:15Speaker 4: they had to run past the sprint pass and then
- 12:18Speaker 4: and then sprint back. So I was it was practicing
- 12:20Speaker 4: literally that that that moment in the game. So pushing
- 12:23Speaker 4: through and your support being a genuine supporter, genuine option,
- 12:27Speaker 4: and then you know that that's what happens off the
- 12:29Speaker 4: back of it.
- 12:29Speaker 5: He was a genuine option.
- 12:31Speaker 4: He reset, it was a genuine option again, and then
- 12:33Speaker 4: he gets to try the benefit off the back of it.
- 12:36Speaker 1: So if there's anything that thinks not skillful enough, you
- 12:38Speaker 1: don't need skill for that.
- 12:39Speaker 5: No, No, that's an effort. That's one.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it.
- 12:43Speaker 5: And you would do that how many times? Get the ball?
- 12:46Speaker 5: Yeah it was a turnover. Yeah, it was a turnover.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And then Malcolm, at the end of the at the
- 12:53Speaker 2: end of that thing, it was just what's what's a Malcolm,
- 12:56Speaker 2: Oh look, let's just not talk about that. The saddest
- 13:00Speaker 2: things in the world. It's ten seconds of just hell yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 2: and you've got to do it. You can do it
- 13:05Speaker 2: sometimes twelve times without a rest. What are they Yeah,
- 13:09Speaker 2: both burpies and sprints.
- 13:10Speaker 6: So sprint to the ten, ten, hit the ground, back
- 13:14Speaker 6: to the twenty, back to the sprint, and then go
- 13:16Speaker 6: through the twenty, hit the ground, hit the ground on
- 13:19Speaker 6: the ten and hit the try line and do that
- 13:22Speaker 6: six times.
- 13:23Speaker 1: It's one set.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Why are they called Malcolm? That sounds quite friendly. I
- 13:30Speaker 5: was made up.
- 13:30Speaker 1: His name is Malcolm and he was a wanker.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly real, real big origin play and a lot
- 13:35Speaker 4: of people have spoken about it. Was Jojo for feed up. Yes, yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 4: just before halftime, huge huge play. So he came in
- 13:43Speaker 4: to shut it down. Stop stop their play, went to
- 13:46Speaker 4: make the next tackle, hit the ground, got up and
- 13:49Speaker 4: then tackled hearts and younger.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Wasn't he the reason they made it a little break?
- 13:54Speaker 2: They shift, he's gone. He's taken his meters and not
- 13:57Speaker 2: a lot of wingers do this. He's taken his meters.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Could have did the glory thing and did a stupid
- 14:02Speaker 2: ass time go around and thick the ball back in,
- 14:05Speaker 2: took his medicine straight backing, quick play the ball and
- 14:08Speaker 2: then I play later kick toy through catch.
- 14:11Speaker 1: That's that like again, another.
- 14:13Speaker 4: One like really measured, really measured game by Queensland, genuine
- 14:19Speaker 4: game plan to.
- 14:19Speaker 5: Attack their right edge and yeah, just like.
- 14:25Speaker 6: It was.
- 14:26Speaker 5: It was. It was a fairly close game in the
- 14:28Speaker 5: first half, but yeah, second half was it's the grind.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Remember, you know, you win the grinds, and at the
- 14:36Speaker 2: start of the game we're winning, and then that last
- 14:39Speaker 2: fifteen Queensland won that grind. It didn't look pretty, but
- 14:43Speaker 2: they scored and I got a I haven't said this yet,
- 14:47Speaker 2: but I got to take my hat off to bretton
- 14:48Speaker 2: a Kora. Yeah, he played really well, thirty something tackles
- 14:52Speaker 2: I don't believe, maybe twelve to fifteen carries eighty minutes
- 14:57Speaker 2: and shut down Hudson Young and everyone else that came
- 15:01Speaker 2: that way walk with the whole game.
- 15:03Speaker 5: That is not easy to do, Tommy, I got to try.
- 15:09Speaker 5: I can't believe that though.
- 15:10Speaker 4: In one game, two front rowers both dropping off the kickoff,
- 15:13Speaker 4: so then you flip down the second Yeah, yeah, Lindsay
- 15:16Speaker 4: Collins drops it off the kickoff as well, kind.
- 15:18Speaker 5: Of you know, the ball was played at but again
- 15:20Speaker 5: it wasn't deemed a rag, but hilarious was just like
- 15:25Speaker 5: it was cold. It was a little look. It was
- 15:28Speaker 5: in the first couple of minutes.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Where was he running?
- 15:30Speaker 5: We kicked the penalty goal, took the two points and
- 15:32Speaker 5: then do you.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Believe if he ran that and where he was going
- 15:35Speaker 1: he wasn't get taken out?
- 15:36Speaker 5: Yeah he was was he was trying to go left. Yeah,
- 15:40Speaker 5: he was trying to spot just Coppis. Remember you're a ranger,
- 15:49Speaker 5: just go straight up straight and all right, that's about
- 15:53Speaker 5: it for the for the bonus round.
- 15:54Speaker 4: But coming up in the in the podcast proper, we've
- 15:57Speaker 4: got another round of the Queensland Quiz will be playing
- 16:00Speaker 4: for people who have registered online and we're also going
- 16:03Speaker 4: to cross live to the Cardival boys who are overcovering
- 16:06Speaker 4: the World Cups in the middle of the A tough life,
- 16:10Speaker 4: How good is it for
