A flash flood in Kerrville, Texas, swept away a mobile home early Thursday, claiming the life of 65-year-old John Mark Steward—his frantic 3:06 AM call for help came too late. As Goat Creek overflowed into the Guadalupe River, the community, still reeling from last year’s devastating flood, faced evacuation and loss once more. Steward’s wife, Jennie, was safe in Dallas, having just celebrated their third anniversary. Governor Greg Abbott confirmed at least one death, though it’s unclear if it was Steward’s.
