Four inmates at Elmore Correctional Facility face murder charges after beating to death 41-year-old inmate Cason Helms on June 6, using hands, fists, and feet — video evidence led to their identification. Helms died from broken ribs and head trauma. Three of the accused — Nico Phillips, Cedric Usher, and Deandre Knox — were serving time for prior Jefferson County convictions; Sylvester Slay was convicted in Greene County.
