- 1:25SPEAKER_15: Oh, it's episode 228.
- 1:26SPEAKER_15: 228.
- 1:27SPEAKER_15: That's how bad my memory.
- 1:28SPEAKER_15: I am fried, dude.
- 1:29SPEAKER_15: I am fr not like like high.
- 1:32SPEAKER_15: I'm I'm just like, I want to just sleep.
- 1:37SPEAKER_22: I'm like, I'm like toasty, man.
- 1:42SPEAKER_15: It's it's been one of those weeks.
- 1:43SPEAKER_15: You got any chips, man?
- 1:45SPEAKER_15: And you know what I mean.
- 1:46SPEAKER_15: I mean, we had a conversation before, but yeah, it's been it's been one of those weeks.
- 1:49SPEAKER_15: And it's only well, we're recording this on a Wednesday.
- 1:51SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:52SPEAKER_15: Broadcast drops tomorrow.
- 1:53SPEAKER_15: There's a reason we record on a Wednesday.
- 1:55SPEAKER_15: We had a great rehearsal last night.
- 1:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah, we did.
- 1:57SPEAKER_15: That was pretty cool.
- 1:58SPEAKER_15: That was fun.
- 1:59SPEAKER_15: Um and well actually I have it, I have some of it recorded, and the the uh they came out pretty cool.
- 2:05SPEAKER_15: Did they?
- 2:06SPEAKER_15: Yeah, okay.
- 2:07SPEAKER_15: So Skinny Elvis got together, which we we don't do as much as we like.
- 2:12SPEAKER_15: Um but we got together and we learned what three well we we came in with three or four songs that we wanted to learn.
- 2:21SPEAKER_15: And that was like six songs.
- 2:23SPEAKER_15: Well, wait a minute.
- 2:23SPEAKER_15: So Oh wait, no, we yeah, that's right.
- 2:26SPEAKER_15: That's what it was.
- 2:26SPEAKER_15: So we had a bunch of songs that we were supposed to look at and learn.
- 2:29SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 2:30SPEAKER_22: And I didn't think we I think we hit every one of them, but we and I didn't.
- 2:34SPEAKER_15: And neither did Chris.
- 2:35SPEAKER_15: Yeah, Morton didn't didn't uh rehearse them either, but it still worked out.
- 2:39SPEAKER_15: It did work out, and it worked out pretty good.
- 2:41SPEAKER_23: Yeah.
- 2:42SPEAKER_15: So um we got uh My Hero from Foo Fighters.
- 2:46SPEAKER_15: Yeah, that was pretty quick.
- 2:47SPEAKER_15: That was good.
- 2:48SPEAKER_22: Um I think we had done that one before.
- 2:51SPEAKER_22: We had?
- 2:51SPEAKER_22: I don't know.
- 2:52SPEAKER_22: Like at the end of the last time we ever rehearsed, back last year.
- 2:56SPEAKER_22: I don't remember.
- 2:56SPEAKER_22: I remember doing that.
- 2:58SPEAKER_22: Really?
- 2:58SPEAKER_22: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_22: We just started off as a joke and we were like, hey, that could work.
- 3:02SPEAKER_15: I don't I don't remember doing that, but uh it's anything is possible at this point.
- 3:06SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 3:06SPEAKER_15: Um we did Can't Stop by the Chili Peppers.
- 3:09SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 3:09SPEAKER_15: Great song.
- 3:10SPEAKER_15: Um Other Side by the Special.
- 3:12SPEAKER_15: We did Other Side by the Chili Peppers, and that's one I hadn't even listened to.
- 3:15SPEAKER_15: Um so we played it uh on our phone and then figured it out in about a minute and played it.
- 3:23SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 3:24SPEAKER_15: And so it was good.
- 3:24SPEAKER_15: Worked out well.
- 3:25SPEAKER_15: Um what was the other ones we did?
- 3:27SPEAKER_22: We did uh Longview from Green Day Green Day and uh seems like there was one more.
- 3:32SPEAKER_15: I thought there was.
- 3:33SPEAKER_15: We didn't do rope from the rope.
- 3:35SPEAKER_15: We're gonna get to it though.
- 3:36SPEAKER_22: Oh, we did uh The Way by Fastball.
- 3:38SPEAKER_15: Oh, that's right, that's right.
- 3:39SPEAKER_22: And that came out pretty much.
- 3:40SPEAKER_22: That actually came out pretty well.
- 3:41SPEAKER_22: Yeah, so yeah, so it was so there's like five.
- 3:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 3:44SPEAKER_15: So five out of the six.
- 3:45SPEAKER_15: Which we will none of us will remember when we get back together.
- 3:47SPEAKER_15: But that's okay.
- 3:48SPEAKER_22: Probably not, but that's all right.
- 3:49SPEAKER_22: That's that's half the thing.
- 3:50SPEAKER_15: Actually, that's not true.
- 3:51SPEAKER_15: John Simonoff will remember.
- 3:52SPEAKER_15: Yeah, but he remembers everything.
- 3:53SPEAKER_15: Actually, you know what?
- 3:54SPEAKER_15: Our whole rhythm section will remember, but we won't.
- 3:56SPEAKER_22: No, we ought to.
- 3:57SPEAKER_16: Um maybe I'm like, we did that song.
- 3:59SPEAKER_16: What?
- 3:59SPEAKER_16: And maybe I'm just crazy.
- 4:00SPEAKER_16: Speaking for myself, I don't know.
- 4:02SPEAKER_15: But uh, it was fun.
- 4:03SPEAKER_15: It was uh, you know, we don't get to play that type of music very often, so it was pretty cool.
- 4:09SPEAKER_15: Uh last week.
- 4:11SPEAKER_15: Last week you and I had a gig at uh Big Rock, and we established that we are old.
- 4:18SPEAKER_15: I'm still deaf.
- 4:19SPEAKER_15: We are old.
- 4:20SPEAKER_15: So I walk into, and and if anybody from Big Rock is listening, you know, we apologize, but you need to know.
- 4:26SPEAKER_15: Uh I walk into the pub and there's a DJ going before we play.
- 4:33SPEAKER_15: And uh it was so loud that I was was just this is this is 51-year-old me.
- 4:44SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 4:44SPEAKER_15: I'm like, and I'm a r and I'm a rock guy, you know.
- 4:47SPEAKER_15: I'm a you know, I love loud.
- 4:48SPEAKER_22: It's not like we're not used to loud.
- 4:50SPEAKER_15: Of course not, you know.
- 4:51SPEAKER_22: But holy cow in the in a room like that.
- 4:54SPEAKER_22: Yeah, right.
- 4:55SPEAKER_15: It was just way too much.
- 4:56SPEAKER_15: And I got I downloaded a decibel reader on my phone, and I I gauged what what the decibel level was in that little alcove, in that little pub, and it was a hundred and seven to a hundred and nine decibels, which is concert volume.
- 5:15SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 5:16SPEAKER_15: It was ear splitting.
- 5:18SPEAKER_15: It was so much so that I had brought my stuff up and was waiting for you, and then uh you came up, and you're like, you're like, what the heck?
- 5:26SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 5:27SPEAKER_22: I literally I was I was parked at the bottom of the hill.
- 5:30SPEAKER_15: Yeah, which is quite a ways away.
- 5:32SPEAKER_22: It is, and I could hear the music crystal clear.
- 5:35SPEAKER_22: I was like, wow.
- 5:37SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_22: And then when I got close, I was like, holy crap, it is thumping in there.
- 5:41SPEAKER_15: Yeah, and I said, Let's go outside.
- 5:43SPEAKER_22: Yeah, and as soon as I opened the door and I went upstairs, I was like, Oh, I mean, it was painful.
- 5:47SPEAKER_22: It's yeah, it hurt my ears.
- 5:48SPEAKER_22: It was painful, and then we were trying to talk to each other.
- 5:51SPEAKER_22: We were standing like inches from each other.
- 5:53SPEAKER_22: I could not hear anything you said.
- 5:55SPEAKER_15: Nothing.
- 5:55SPEAKER_15: And the owners, God love them, you know, there's just oh, well, that's so the DJ.
- 6:01SPEAKER_15: Yeah, oh, that's so and so, you know, that's he likes it loud.
- 6:04SPEAKER_15: I'm like, this is not right.
- 6:06SPEAKER_22: That's how can anybody enjoy that?
- 6:09SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 6:10SPEAKER_22: But I but it I but I think it set the tone for the rest of the night.
- 6:13SPEAKER_15: Oh, yes, for sure.
- 6:14SPEAKER_15: Because the rest of the night was just like I was like, I I said, I we can't follow this.
- 6:19SPEAKER_15: I mean, because you had there's they had a karaoke mic, so they were actually singing the songs in the pub.
- 6:24SPEAKER_22: You know, apparently they did it after we left, too.
- 6:27SPEAKER_15: Of course they did.
- 6:27SPEAKER_15: Yeah, so that's what Kelly said anyway.
- 6:30SPEAKER_15: So we get in there and we do our acoustic thing, which you know, we sounded fine, I thought.
- 6:36SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 6:37SPEAKER_15: Uh and you know, we got some some relative accolades, I guess, from the crowd.
- 6:42SPEAKER_15: But we would finish a song, and the only one that really clapped was Kelly.
- 6:46SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 6:47SPEAKER_15: Uh because we're background music.
- 6:49SPEAKER_15: And you know, I keep saying that.
- 6:52SPEAKER_15: We kind of know that that's our place.
- 6:54SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 6:55SPEAKER_15: We we kind of um are used to that, so we really just play to entertain ourselves most of the time.
- 7:01SPEAKER_15: I mean, we're there for for music and to to entertain, I guess.
- 7:04SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 7:05SPEAKER_15: But if you're not even giving us the time of day, it's a little difficult to get through.
- 7:10SPEAKER_22: It's har it's hard to enjoy it.
- 7:13SPEAKER_22: It is.
- 7:14SPEAKER_22: You know, because it's just like, why am I even here?
- 7:17SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 7:17SPEAKER_22: You know what I mean?
- 7:18SPEAKER_22: If it you know, I mean, I don't expect everybody to be like, you know, wrapped attention.
- 7:23SPEAKER_22: You guys are fantastic.
- 7:24SPEAKER_22: Oh, yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_22: Oh, you wonder.
- 7:25SPEAKER_22: I don't need that, but I mean, just a little acknowledgement would be all right.
- 7:29SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 7:29SPEAKER_15: You finish the song and then you have to go to the next song because there's no reaction.
- 7:33SPEAKER_22: There's zero.
- 7:34SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 7:34SPEAKER_22: Zero reaction.
- 7:35SPEAKER_22: You're just like, oh, okay.
- 7:37SPEAKER_22: F you too.
- 7:38SPEAKER_15: So that makes it difficult.
- 7:40SPEAKER_15: And again, we kind of accept that to a certain extent, especially like at a restaurant.
- 7:47SPEAKER_26: Yeah, I can't do that.
- 7:47SPEAKER_15: You know, you know, people are people are eating their meal or whatever, and they're visiting with their friends and family and blah, blah, blah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_15: And if they don't clap for you after you finish a song, that's understandable.
- 7:58SPEAKER_22: Well, I'd rather they don't clap.
- 8:00SPEAKER_15: Yeah, this is true.
- 8:00SPEAKER_22: To be honest with you, uh, but uh you know, it would be like, you know, it would be like nice if somebody actually looked our direction and went, oh, there's a band here.
- 8:10SPEAKER_22: Hey, that was that was a really good song.
- 8:12SPEAKER_22: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:13SPEAKER_22: You guys play uh, you know, but that wasn't even any of that.
- 8:16SPEAKER_15: No, it was none of that.
- 8:17SPEAKER_22: I mean, there was zero.
- 8:18SPEAKER_22: I mean, just we were not there.
- 8:19SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 8:20SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 8:22SPEAKER_22: Unless you count the women that were towards the end, when they would go to the bathroom, they would pretend to dance just in that little spot that we were looking at.
- 8:34SPEAKER_14: Oh, I didn't even notice that.
- 8:34SPEAKER_14: Oh, you didn't notice that?
- 8:35SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 8:36SPEAKER_22: They would they would pretend to dance and then they would continue on the way, and then when they came back from the bathroom, they would pretend to dance back into the pub, and that was it.
- 8:43SPEAKER_14: And then they would disappear.
- 8:44SPEAKER_22: And you never saw them.
- 8:45SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 8:45SPEAKER_15: So it's like you know, uh, I guess I was I guess I was I stopped paying attention because they stopped paying attention.
- 8:53SPEAKER_22: So Well, I'm always looking around because that's what I do.
- 8:55SPEAKER_22: Yeah, you just you know, just kind of keep an eye on people, but I was just like, yeah, really?
- 9:01SPEAKER_22: I mean, that's in that's more insulting than anything.
- 9:04SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 9:04SPEAKER_22: And pretending to like the music, okay, well, screw you too.
- 9:07SPEAKER_15: I right, you know.
- 9:08SPEAKER_15: Not gonna say this this didn't uh lead to a conversation because we had the conversation before um we played, but I Well as soon well almost as soon as we got there, we had that conversation.
- 9:20SPEAKER_15: We were conversation was how much longer you want to keep doing this?
- 9:24SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 9:25SPEAKER_15: You know, and because I I love to do it when it's right.
- 9:31SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_15: You know, like because you and I, I'll never get tired of playing with you and I.
- 9:35SPEAKER_23: Exactly, yeah.
- 9:36SPEAKER_15: Um and I'm tired of Well, you said it perfectly.
- 9:42SPEAKER_22: You said I'm tired of trying to win over everybody every time we go somewhere and play.
- 9:46SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it's true.
- 9:47SPEAKER_22: Every it is, it is it is exhausting.
- 9:50SPEAKER_15: And it gets to when it gets to be work, yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_15: And it's not fun.
- 9:54SPEAKER_15: It's not fun.
- 9:54SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah, it's not fun.
- 9:56SPEAKER_15: Um so uh so we're quitting.
- 10:00SPEAKER_15: No, I'm just kidding.
- 10:01SPEAKER_15: We're done.
- 10:03SPEAKER_15: Bye everybody.
- 10:04SPEAKER_15: Um well that leads me to another thing.
- 10:07SPEAKER_15: Uh I meant to mention this to you.
- 10:08SPEAKER_15: So somebody messaged the Common Crossing Facebook page.
- 10:12SPEAKER_15: I don't know if you saw that or not.
- 10:13SPEAKER_15: Somebody w had a gig or something at you know, at a lake or something like that in July, at the end of July, which is never good for you.
- 10:22SPEAKER_15: No.
- 10:22SPEAKER_15: And and I don't think it's gonna be good for me because I think we're going on vacation.
- 10:25SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 10:26SPEAKER_15: Um But I had the thought uh Did you say it was the Common Crossing?
- 10:32SPEAKER_15: The Common Crossing page.
- 10:33SPEAKER_15: The full band.
- 10:34SPEAKER_22: Oh, okay.
- 10:34SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 10:35SPEAKER_15: So I uh I and I let it go for a few days, and I was like, wow, somebody should respond.
- 10:41SPEAKER_15: So I responded and I said um I can't remember I'm paraphrasing now, I can't remember how I put it, but it was like basically um the full band is uh uh I don't know if I said on hiatus or is not um I don't remember how I put it.
- 11:02SPEAKER_15: I didn't say defunct because we're you know um or maybe not accepting gigs or or or I don't know.
- 11:07SPEAKER_15: I don't remember.
- 11:08SPEAKER_22: I don't remember how it's well it's hard to get us all together.
- 11:10SPEAKER_15: It is, you know, so so um but I said thank you for thinking of us.
- 11:14SPEAKER_15: Um and and even if we were available, that time of the summer is really not good for any of us.
- 11:21SPEAKER_23: Yeah.
- 11:22SPEAKER_15: And I I I had the thought, and I almost did, actually I think I tried to, um, but I got doing something else.
- 11:31SPEAKER_15: I almost thought of because you can you can um not delete your page, but you can unpublish it.
- 11:39SPEAKER_15: Everything will still be there, you'll still have all the followers and stuff and everything.
- 11:43SPEAKER_15: But you can unpublish the page so people can't see it.
- 11:46SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 11:46SPEAKER_15: I thought had the thought to do that because uh people are gonna get keep coming back to the page and saying, Can you do this?
- 11:53SPEAKER_15: Can you you know can you do this?
- 11:54SPEAKER_15: I don't want them to think that we're really still available because we don't even have our gear anymore.
- 12:01SPEAKER_15: No.
- 12:02SPEAKER_15: You know, I mean we sell it all?
- 12:04SPEAKER_15: We didn't sell it all.
- 12:05SPEAKER_15: We still have some.
- 12:06SPEAKER_15: Um but I mean well, I mean these speakers are ours, obviously, but but and we s we still have some some gear.
- 12:13SPEAKER_22: But we have we got but we got rid of all like the power conditioners and uh all that stuff.
- 12:17SPEAKER_15: Well the amps were crap.
- 12:20SPEAKER_15: I had to throw them away.
- 12:21SPEAKER_15: Yeah, whether they were destroyed.
- 12:22SPEAKER_15: Yeah, they're crap.
- 12:23SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 12:23SPEAKER_15: Um I sold the uh lexicon um processor.
- 12:28SPEAKER_15: I I have a power conditioner here.
- 12:30SPEAKER_15: And I think one.
- 12:32SPEAKER_15: I think I have the other one in one of the things.
- 12:34SPEAKER_15: So I mean we still have some things.
- 12:36SPEAKER_15: And if we had to, we could pull stuff together.
- 12:38SPEAKER_22: Yeah, we could cobble.
- 12:40SPEAKER_15: We still have the mixer.
- 12:41SPEAKER_15: We really all you need is we have the speakers.
- 12:43SPEAKER_22: We have speakers and mixers.
- 12:44SPEAKER_22: We have powered speakers and mixers.
- 12:45SPEAKER_15: Yeah, so we could we could play a gig if we needed to.
- 12:47SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 12:48SPEAKER_15: Um but I mean uh getting all of us you and I really shouldn't be a problem, but getting Shane to be able to come up.
- 12:58SPEAKER_22: Yeah, because he's got a lot on his plate.
- 12:59SPEAKER_15: He's got a lot on his plate.
- 13:00SPEAKER_22: Yeah, Joko's thousands of miles away.
- 13:03SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 13:03SPEAKER_22: He's got his own things.
- 13:04SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 13:05SPEAKER_22: So I mean it's like and I I I don't want to play as Common Crossing and bring in somebody new.
- 13:12SPEAKER_15: Neither do I.
- 13:13SPEAKER_15: That's why I thought about just kind of unpublishing the page.
- 13:16SPEAKER_22: It's actually not a bad idea.
- 13:18SPEAKER_15: Not deleting it.
- 13:18SPEAKER_22: Yeah, just unpublishing it.
- 13:19SPEAKER_15: And if and if like in two years, if Shane says, Hey, I got lots of time, let's get let's do some gigs.
- 13:25SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 13:25SPEAKER_15: Then we can publish it again.
- 13:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 13:27SPEAKER_15: You know?
- 13:27SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_15: So but back to the conversation about you and I, um, I think we're just gonna be a little more choosy.
- 13:34SPEAKER_22: Yeah, I think I think that's you know, let's let's you know, be like, well, let's play twice a month.
- 13:40SPEAKER_22: Yeah and if if we don't like the sound of the gig, then let's not do it.
- 13:44SPEAKER_15: You know, let's I almost think twice twice a month is too much.
- 13:48SPEAKER_22: What's that?
- 13:48SPEAKER_15: I almost think twice a month a month is too much.
- 13:51SPEAKER_22: Once a month, that's fine.
- 13:52SPEAKER_22: I mean I don't I it depends.
- 13:53SPEAKER_22: It depends.
- 13:53SPEAKER_22: Yeah, it depends.
- 13:54SPEAKER_22: I mean, you know, I mean this time of year it's it's bad for you because you're taking college classes and you're working and stuff like that.
- 14:01SPEAKER_15: Yeah, maybe and maybe that was in the back of my mind.
- 14:03SPEAKER_22: That's probably it.
- 14:03SPEAKER_22: I mean, I totally get that because you know that's two or three hours that you don't get to work on your stuff.
- 14:10SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 14:10SPEAKER_22: And then you get to go and be unappreciated.
- 14:12SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 14:13SPEAKER_15: You know what I mean?
- 14:14SPEAKER_22: So I mean, it it it's tough.
- 14:16SPEAKER_22: Yeah, I mean, I get it.
- 14:17SPEAKER_15: I totally I can see uh twice a month if we played Holton, which is like fifty miles away or whatever, 45 miles away.
- 14:28SPEAKER_15: Right?
- 14:29SPEAKER_22: Is it right?
- 14:30SPEAKER_15: Forty five miles?
- 14:31SPEAKER_22: From here?
- 14:31SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 14:32SPEAKER_22: Oh, yeah, it's probably 45, yeah.
- 14:33SPEAKER_15: So if we played Holton uh and then we played this area, you know.
- 14:38SPEAKER_15: I could see I could see twice a month if we did that.
- 14:40SPEAKER_23: Right.
- 14:41SPEAKER_15: Um but I don't know.
- 14:44SPEAKER_15: And we gotta get some other songs, man, because uh although I I like our set list because you know, we have fun to it, and we do it in our our own way.
- 14:53SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 14:53SPEAKER_15: Um and we're gonna talk about this actually a little bit later.
- 14:57SPEAKER_15: Cover songs.
- 14:58SPEAKER_15: We'll we'll get to that.
- 14:59SPEAKER_15: We'll get to that in a second.
- 15:00SPEAKER_15: By the way, there will be no uh wall of tunes today because Doug came in with an idea.
- 15:06SPEAKER_17: Yeah! Yeah, Doug! I had a thought.
- 15:12SPEAKER_15: Yay me.
- 15:14SPEAKER_15: And it was a good one.
- 15:15SPEAKER_15: So we're gonna we'll talk about that later.
- 15:17SPEAKER_22: That'll be it for the year.
- 15:20SPEAKER_14: We're in January, Doug.
- 15:24SPEAKER_22: Be like July, eh?
- 15:25SPEAKER_22: Doug, you thought of anything?
- 15:26SPEAKER_22: No.
- 15:26SPEAKER_22: No.
- 15:27SPEAKER_13: Give me a few months.
- 15:28SPEAKER_22: Yeah, I guess it's only July, man.
- 15:30SPEAKER_22: I still got like four more months to be getting another idea.
- 15:34SPEAKER_15: So Oh, uh, I think we had um Okay, let's just finish this conversation.
- 15:39SPEAKER_15: So so yeah, we'll we're gonna be more picky with the with the acoustic uh gigs, and um which is fine.
- 15:46SPEAKER_22: Yeah, I don't want I don't I don't want anybody to think that we're complaining because we're I mean I'm I'm grateful that we get to go out and play.
- 15:51SPEAKER_15: Well here's the thing here's the thing that you said um that was right, and I guess I never thought about it like this.
- 15:58SPEAKER_15: We're not looking for gigs.
- 16:00SPEAKER_15: No they're coming to us.
- 16:01SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 16:02SPEAKER_15: So that's a great position to be in.
- 16:03SPEAKER_22: It is wonderful.
- 16:04SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:05SPEAKER_15: And we're appre we appreciate that.
- 16:06SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_22: But I think we just, you know, we we gotta just just for now until things calm down or you know, things, situations change.
- 16:14SPEAKER_22: Because like I said, you're busy, I'm busy.
- 16:16SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:17SPEAKER_22: It's just it's kind of a it's it's a little bit of an imposition.
- 16:21SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_22: You know, to play that many times, and you know, especially when you're just because it's a lot of work.
- 16:26SPEAKER_22: I don't I don't think people that non-musicians don't realize how much work goes into putting on a gig.
- 16:34SPEAKER_22: Uh-huh.
- 16:34SPEAKER_22: Because you gotta get all the gear together, you gotta drive, you gotta get it all set up, you gotta sound check, then you gotta sit there and play.
- 16:43SPEAKER_22: Then you gotta tear it all down, pack it all away, and drive.
- 16:47SPEAKER_22: You know, it's a it's it's you know, for a two-hour gig, you're looking at three to four hours.
- 16:51SPEAKER_15: Yeah, although our acoustic gig is, you know.
- 16:53SPEAKER_22: Acoustic gig is way better because it's it's very simple setups, very simple teardown.
- 16:57SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 16:57SPEAKER_22: But if if like the syndicate's playing, you know, that uh that's a long day.
- 17:02SPEAKER_15: But not only that, it's the it's the years that you've put in to you learning your craft and the hours that you put in learning songs.
- 17:13SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 17:14SPEAKER_15: You know, and people don't think about it like that.
- 17:16SPEAKER_22: No, it's just like hey, play this.
- 17:19SPEAKER_22: Well, I've never played it before, but Okay.
- 17:23SPEAKER_22: Whatever.
- 17:23SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 17:23SPEAKER_22: You know, I mean it's just like, you know, you they don't get it, and I understand that they don't understand.
- 17:29SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 17:29SPEAKER_22: Because I noticed that when we play with other for other musicians, they don't do stuff like that.
- 17:34SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 17:35SPEAKER_22: Because they understand.
- 17:36SPEAKER_15: Yes.
- 17:37SPEAKER_22: You know?
- 17:38SPEAKER_22: So, but when you play you're when you're playing for non-musicians, they don't get it.
- 17:41SPEAKER_22: They don't understand, they don't understand how much goes into you know, yeah, yeah, sure, we we could m try that song, but we've never done it and we have standards.
- 17:51SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 17:52SPEAKER_22: Why would we want to do a song and make ourselves look stupid?
- 17:55SPEAKER_15: Exactly.
- 17:55SPEAKER_22: Because we can't play it or we can't remember the words.
- 17:57SPEAKER_22: We can make ourselves look stupid on our own.
- 17:59SPEAKER_22: Yeah, I'm really good at that.
- 18:00SPEAKER_22: I mean, I can do that just fine.
- 18:02SPEAKER_22: I don't need anybody else's help.
- 18:03SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 18:03SPEAKER_22: You know what I mean?
- 18:04SPEAKER_22: But you know, just you know, I just you know, a little courtesy would be nice.
- 18:08SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 18:09SPEAKER_22: You know.
- 18:09SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 18:10SPEAKER_22: I I mean appreciate you, you know, when people I think I think our new policy should be if you don't put anything in the tip jar, you don't get your request.
- 18:19SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 18:19SPEAKER_15: Well, I think it's funny that you say that because I think people already get that to a certain extent.
- 18:28SPEAKER_15: To a certain extent.
- 18:28SPEAKER_15: I mean there are there are some that that will just just play this, you know, and they don't put anything.
- 18:32SPEAKER_15: Or they'll request it and if we try it, they'll put something in, right?
- 18:38SPEAKER_15: They've done that before.
- 18:39SPEAKER_22: Oh, yeah, they've done that, yeah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_15: But there are people that will come up and put something in the tip jar.
- 18:45SPEAKER_15: This is rare, by the way.
- 18:46SPEAKER_15: Uh, and they'll say, Can you play you know, Waylon Jennings?
- 18:51SPEAKER_23: Yeah.
- 18:51SPEAKER_15: You know, or something like that.
- 18:52SPEAKER_15: And we give it a shot.
- 18:53SPEAKER_15: If they're gonna put something in the tip jar, we'll try.
- 18:56SPEAKER_22: If you're gonna if you're gonna give us a little extra, sure, I'll I'll give it a shot.
- 18:59SPEAKER_22: Yeah, no problem.
- 19:00SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_22: But if you're just sitting at your table just shouting out songs, screw you.
- 19:05SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 19:05unknown: Yeah.
- 19:05SPEAKER_22: You know, show us some love.
- 19:07SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 19:07SPEAKER_15: Exactly.
- 19:08SPEAKER_22: I think I did that one night.
- 19:09SPEAKER_22: I got fed up because there was somebody just kept requesting songs.
- 19:12SPEAKER_22: I remember that.
- 19:13SPEAKER_22: I I remember picking up the tip jar and went and shook it at him.
- 19:16SPEAKER_22: And then I put it back down.
- 19:17SPEAKER_22: I didn't say a word.
- 19:18SPEAKER_22: I just picked it up, shook it at him.
- 19:20SPEAKER_22: Everybody laughed except that guy.
- 19:22SPEAKER_15: What was the I wrote a song, a really short ditty, one time.
- 19:25SPEAKER_15: Tip jar, tip jar.
- 19:26SPEAKER_15: Everyone likes a tip jar.
- 19:28SPEAKER_15: Tip jar, tip jar.
- 19:29SPEAKER_22: Oh, look what there's one right there.
- 19:32SPEAKER_22: It's a great song.
- 19:33SPEAKER_22: I think it should go on the next album.
- 19:35SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 19:35SPEAKER_22: So should open with that.
- 19:37SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 19:37SPEAKER_15: So um, so anyway, um, not to say we're we're quitting because we're not, we're just gonna kind of be a little more choosy.
- 19:43SPEAKER_22: We're just gonna back off a little bit just until things calm down and you know.
- 19:48SPEAKER_22: Like I said, I'm tired.
- 19:49SPEAKER_22: I'm tired too.
- 19:51SPEAKER_22: We're all tired.
- 19:51SPEAKER_22: I mean, we're getting I mean, we're getting to that age where it's like it's work.
- 19:56SPEAKER_15: It is work.
- 19:57SPEAKER_22: It's it's hard.
- 19:58SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah, it is.
- 19:59SPEAKER_22: You know, what's great though is I mean, if this was like 30 years ago, we screw it.
- 20:05SPEAKER_15: We'd be looking for gigs.
- 20:06SPEAKER_15: Even if our our car is.
- 20:08SPEAKER_22: It didn't bother us.
- 20:10SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 20:10SPEAKER_22: We'd go in, set up, play, uh, tear down, do it again the next day.
- 20:14SPEAKER_22: Ah, yeah.
- 20:15SPEAKER_22: Just you know, the same thing.
- 20:16SPEAKER_22: Sure.
- 20:17SPEAKER_22: That was 30 years ago, man.
- 20:18SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 20:19SPEAKER_15: Now it's like, oh we should change the name of the podcast to Grumpy Old Men.
- 20:23SPEAKER_22: They already made a movie.
- 20:25SPEAKER_22: The Grumpy Man podcast.
- 20:26SPEAKER_15: There you go.
- 20:27SPEAKER_15: Um, it's good, it's cool though that I don't know if you've noticed this or not, but there's a lot of little um groups that are popping up uh in the area so that they're we're kind of um I'm not gonna say fighting or competing for space in these uh venues, but uh the venues know them and they're hiring them.
- 20:49SPEAKER_15: So I mean Jay Graham is doing stuff.
- 20:51SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 20:51SPEAKER_15: Um there's a band out of uh the Holton area that does uh acoustic stuff as well.
- 20:56SPEAKER_15: Um yeah, more power can be.
- 20:58SPEAKER_15: And they come up here, you know.
- 20:59SPEAKER_15: I think it's great.
- 21:00SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I think the more the merrier.
- 21:01SPEAKER_22: And I think Well, it's nice because pre-COVID there were a lot of bands up here.
- 21:06SPEAKER_22: That just isn't and then every in during COVID, everybody just disappeared and there was only a few of us left.
- 21:10SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 21:11SPEAKER_15: But now it's starting to re-emerge and on the kind of neat because it's not just like I think of back when the rock docks were playing.
- 21:23SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 21:24SPEAKER_15: And there was there was the rock docks, there was a band called Train Wreck, there was um what was uh what was the um one that Pat was in in the drummer, he they all wore wigs.
- 21:39SPEAKER_15: Scapegoat.
- 21:40SPEAKER_15: Scapegoat.
- 21:41SPEAKER_15: Scapegoat.
- 21:42SPEAKER_15: All these other all these rock bands that you they played in a bar, you know, and it was loud and all that stuff.
- 21:49SPEAKER_15: Those aren't around really anymore.
- 21:51SPEAKER_15: There's Marionette, you know, it was just great.
- 21:53SPEAKER_15: Marionette does a great job.
- 21:54SPEAKER_15: There's still Wally.
- 21:55SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 21:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 21:56SPEAKER_15: And really that's it.
- 21:58SPEAKER_15: I mean, there's a there might be a couple more, but The other other bands that play are adaptable to different kinds of gigs, like smaller gigs.
- 22:07SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 22:07SPEAKER_15: You know, they could play an acoustic gig.
- 22:09SPEAKER_15: They could probably play a bigger gig if they wanted to, you know, but it all these little kind of little groups are popping up, and I think it's pretty cool that live music is making its way back.
- 22:21SPEAKER_22: It it is to a certain extent, but it's mostly become festivals.
- 22:27SPEAKER_15: This is true.
- 22:28SPEAKER_15: There's not a lot of bars around here.
- 22:30SPEAKER_22: I mean, there's Yeah, because all like the places to play are not open anymore.
- 22:33SPEAKER_15: And not that I'm I I I do think I remember do you remember Mike Neto?
- 22:38SPEAKER_22: Yeah, Mike, yeah, he played with us.
- 22:40SPEAKER_15: Yeah, that's right.
- 22:40SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 22:40SPEAKER_15: That's right.
- 22:41SPEAKER_15: So I remember Mike saying to me one time uh this was a long There's another band, Netto Family Band.
- 22:49SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 22:49SPEAKER_15: Uh a long time ago when Mike was teaching guitar lessons at in Caribou, um he he kind of wanted to do something with me.
- 22:58SPEAKER_15: Um and we were talking we were talking about it, and he said, and I don't know how old Mike is.
- 23:07SPEAKER_15: I know he's older than me, but I'm not sure how much older.
- 23:09SPEAKER_22: He's probably ten years?
- 23:11SPEAKER_22: Yeah, I would say early sixties.
- 23:13SPEAKER_15: Yeah, okay.
- 23:13SPEAKER_22: He's probably close to retirement.
- 23:15SPEAKER_15: So maybe it might have been when he was my age.
- 23:18SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 23:18SPEAKER_15: Uh that I had this conversation with him.
- 23:21SPEAKER_15: Um and he said, I'm done playing bars.
- 23:27SPEAKER_15: You know.
- 23:28SPEAKER_15: I want to play, you know, I want to go to the performing arts center or play festivals or something.
- 23:34SPEAKER_15: I'm I'm I'm done.
- 23:35SPEAKER_15: That's where I am right now.
- 23:36SPEAKER_22: Yeah, I we we've reached that point.
- 23:38SPEAKER_22: We have reached that point.
- 23:39SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 23:39SPEAKER_15: I'm not gonna I'm not gonna play a nine to one gig at a bar.
- 23:42SPEAKER_22: Yeah, bars bar gigs suck.
- 23:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 23:44SPEAKER_15: They really do.
- 23:44SPEAKER_22: Yep.
- 23:45SPEAKER_22: We're just we're just too old for that card.
- 23:46SPEAKER_15: We are too too old.
- 23:47SPEAKER_15: You know, Joko's in the perfect place.
- 23:49SPEAKER_15: Joko's in Nashville.
- 23:51SPEAKER_22: Joko's only in his thirties.
- 23:52SPEAKER_15: He's still got a good that's what I'm saying.
- 23:54SPEAKER_22: You know, he's still got a good another twenty years before he gets old and curmudgily like us.
- 23:58SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 23:58SPEAKER_22: You know, so you know, he's still, you know.
- 24:02SPEAKER_22: Yeah, but that playing a bar down there is way different than the appearance.
- 24:06SPEAKER_15: This is true.
- 24:07SPEAKER_15: You know, they're there to listen to the music.
- 24:09SPEAKER_15: There's my there's my phrase.
- 24:10SPEAKER_15: My kids were making fun of me the other day.
- 24:12SPEAKER_15: What phrase?
- 24:13SPEAKER_15: Um so I say this a lot apparently, because my my kids call me out on it every single time, or they'll just kind of say it.
- 24:23SPEAKER_15: This is true.
- 24:24SPEAKER_15: This is true.
- 24:25SPEAKER_22: You should be like brochash.
- 24:26SPEAKER_15: This is true.
- 24:27SPEAKER_15: Brochash.
- 24:27SPEAKER_15: Brochash.
- 24:28SPEAKER_15: This is true.
- 24:29SPEAKER_15: Dad, is this true?
- 24:30SPEAKER_15: This is true.
- 24:31SPEAKER_15: It is true.
- 24:32SPEAKER_15: Yes, it is.
- 24:33SPEAKER_22: I wouldn't have said it otherwise.
- 24:35SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 24:36SPEAKER_15: Um, okay, so just you know, kind of we'll move on from that.
- 24:39SPEAKER_15: I just wanted to kind of point that out that uh we're old.
- 24:41SPEAKER_15: And we're old and we're tired.
- 24:43SPEAKER_15: We are tired.
- 24:44SPEAKER_15: I haven't and I will tell you, there is, and I think you know this, there is an ache in me I'm that I'm missing.
- 24:54SPEAKER_15: Um I'm I can't create because I'm s I swear I have ADHD.
- 25:00SPEAKER_15: But I can't squirrel.
- 25:02SPEAKER_15: I can't um write a song because I can't sit down long enough to complete.
- 25:07SPEAKER_22: Well, yeah, because you got a million and other things complete a thought.
- 25:10SPEAKER_22: Million and seventy other things going on.
- 25:12SPEAKER_15: And honestly, part of me, and I I hate to admit that I've had this feeling lately, I don't know if I want to write a song anymore.
- 25:19SPEAKER_15: I want to write music.
- 25:20SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 25:21SPEAKER_15: You know what I mean?
- 25:22SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 25:22SPEAKER_15: But do I want to like tell a story?
- 25:26SPEAKER_15: Do I want to, you know, uh overthink some topic and and what if you're overthinking it, then it's like a little bit more.
- 25:34SPEAKER_15: No, what I'm saying is what I'm saying is what do people care what I think?
- 25:37SPEAKER_15: You know?
- 25:38SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 25:38SPEAKER_15: Um, or is just is it just too much work for me at this point to to write lyrics?
- 25:45SPEAKER_22: Well, you're just not inspired.
- 25:46SPEAKER_15: I'm not.
- 25:46SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 25:47SPEAKER_15: I'm not.
- 25:47SPEAKER_15: I mean, I want to create.
- 25:49SPEAKER_15: That's the ache that I have is to create.
- 25:51SPEAKER_15: I'm not able to do that.
- 25:52SPEAKER_15: You know, people say, Well, you do you teach music, you teach all these little kids, you know, you're creating lesson play.
- 25:57SPEAKER_15: Come on.
- 25:58SPEAKER_15: That's not the same.
- 25:58SPEAKER_15: That's not the same.
- 25:59SPEAKER_15: Not even close.
- 26:00SPEAKER_15: You know?
- 26:01SPEAKER_15: My wife said to me, I said, I asked her one day last year, I said, What do you want for Christmas?
- 26:06SPEAKER_15: She said, I want another solo piano album from you.
- 26:10SPEAKER_22: Oh well.
- 26:10SPEAKER_15: And I said, All right.
- 26:14SPEAKER_15: You have any you have a month I can do it?
- 26:18SPEAKER_15: I'm just gonna disappear.
- 26:19SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 26:20SPEAKER_15: That's what I'm saying.
- 26:21SPEAKER_15: You know, I can't I can't come down come down here for an hour and just kind of whittle out something.
- 26:28SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 26:29SPEAKER_15: She would argue that you could that I could.
- 26:31SPEAKER_15: But it's not that easy.
- 26:32SPEAKER_22: No, it's it's completely different.
- 26:34SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 26:34SPEAKER_22: So if you were coming down to practice a song that's already written, that's one thing.
- 26:38SPEAKER_22: But when you're coming up with something complete, it's gotta be insp it's gotta be inspired.
- 26:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah, and it it just takes time.
- 26:44SPEAKER_15: Exactly.
- 26:45SPEAKER_15: And I don't have the time to dedicate to it, and it just kills me.
- 26:48SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I get that.
- 26:49SPEAKER_15: You know what I mean?
- 26:50SPEAKER_13: So I'm empty, Doug, I guess is what I'm saying.
- 26:54SPEAKER_22: Well, I guess our you know, our opera on uh the you know the Russian revolution's on hold then.
- 27:01SPEAKER_15: That might be kind of inspiring.
- 27:03SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 27:06SPEAKER_22: Angry music.
- 27:08unknown: Right.
- 27:09SPEAKER_22: We're communists, we suck.
- 27:12SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 27:14SPEAKER_22: Speaking of But you won't know it for a while.
- 27:16SPEAKER_15: Speaking of communists, Rush has a new uh Russia communist.
- 27:20SPEAKER_15: Just kidding, it was a joke.
- 27:21SPEAKER_22: What are you doing?
- 27:26SPEAKER_15: It was kind of a joke.
- 27:28SPEAKER_15: I was looking for the right button.
- 27:30SPEAKER_22: Sorry.
- 27:31SPEAKER_22: I think Neil had some socialist ideas, but you know, I'm pretty pretty sure they're not communists.
- 27:35SPEAKER_22: Uh I mean they are from Canada, but I mean so that makes her quasi socialist, but you know.
- 27:40SPEAKER_15: So do we want to get political at all?
- 27:44SPEAKER_15: Huh?
- 27:44SPEAKER_15: Do we want to get political at all?
- 27:46SPEAKER_15: About what?
- 27:46SPEAKER_15: About rush?
- 27:47SPEAKER_15: Well, no, not about rush.
- 27:48SPEAKER_15: I I I this something has been bothering me.
- 27:51SPEAKER_15: And I don't know if I want to say it or not.
- 27:53SPEAKER_15: Because people are really getting up in arms about everything?
- 27:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah, they are they are.
- 27:59SPEAKER_15: But I mean what our current president is uh doing with DEI.
- 28:07SPEAKER_15: Do we have to whisper?
- 28:09SPEAKER_15: Let them let them let them get upset.
- 28:10SPEAKER_15: That's that's their right.
- 28:11SPEAKER_15: Well, here just here's my point.
- 28:13SPEAKER_15: I just want to say this so I don't have to post it on social media and have everybody yell at me.
- 28:18SPEAKER_15: Um everybody is in favor of DEI.
- 28:22SPEAKER_15: Sorry.
- 28:23SPEAKER_15: Diversity?
- 28:24SPEAKER_15: Yes, that's a good thing.
- 28:25SPEAKER_15: Equity?
- 28:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah, that's good.
- 28:27SPEAKER_15: Inclusion?
- 28:29SPEAKER_15: Absolutely.
- 28:30SPEAKER_15: Yeah, no question.
- 28:33SPEAKER_15: Here's my point.
- 28:36SPEAKER_15: DEI should be a public service announcement.
- 28:40SPEAKER_15: You should encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- 28:45SPEAKER_15: But you should not legislate it.
- 28:49SPEAKER_22: Yeah, it's governmental.
- 28:50SPEAKER_15: You can't legislate thought.
- 28:54SPEAKER_15: Sorry.
- 28:55SPEAKER_15: You can't do that.
- 28:55SPEAKER_22: Yeah, but they think you can.
- 28:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah, but you can't.
- 28:58unknown: No.
- 28:59SPEAKER_22: And they won't learn that.
- 29:00SPEAKER_15: That's my two cents.
- 29:01SPEAKER_15: There you go.
- 29:01SPEAKER_15: I am for DEI uh as a as a idea.
- 29:08SPEAKER_22: Yeah, it's a great idea.
- 29:09SPEAKER_22: It's like communism.
- 29:10SPEAKER_22: It's a great idea on paper.
- 29:11unknown: Right.
- 29:12unknown: Right.
- 29:13SPEAKER_15: But I mean, I think there's there's there's pluses to to all of the diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- 29:17SPEAKER_15: There's also bad stuff.
- 29:18SPEAKER_15: There's also negative things that come with it.
- 29:20SPEAKER_22: Everything has gorgeous the yin and yang of everything.
- 29:23SPEAKER_15: That's why it should be just a public service announcement.
- 29:27SPEAKER_20: Don't forget.
- 29:28SPEAKER_15: Be diverse.
- 29:29SPEAKER_20: Don't forget.
- 29:30SPEAKER_20: Include everybody.
- 29:32SPEAKER_20: Don't forget.
- 29:33SPEAKER_15: Make it so everyone has an opportunity.
- 29:36SPEAKER_20: Yeah.
- 29:36SPEAKER_15: You know?
- 29:37SPEAKER_15: There's nothing wrong with that.
- 29:39SPEAKER_15: No.
- 29:39SPEAKER_15: Just don't force me to do it.
- 29:41SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you know.
- 29:43SPEAKER_15: Come on.
- 29:44SPEAKER_13: That's all I'm saying.
- 29:44SPEAKER_15: Come on.
- 29:45SPEAKER_13: That's all I'm saying.
- 29:47SPEAKER_13: That's all.
- 29:48SPEAKER_15: That's all.
- 29:48SPEAKER_15: So anyway, let's go to some rock and roll.
- 29:50SPEAKER_15: Rush and roll.

- 39:38SPEAKER_22: Yeah, I would say so.
- 39:40SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I would put Jack Russell in there.
- 39:41SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 39:43SPEAKER_15: Notice none of us, neither of us have said Bret Michaels.
- 39:49SPEAKER_22: Brett Michaels is a great front man.
- 39:51SPEAKER_22: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:52SPEAKER_22: Not taking that away from me, but his his vocals aren't that great.
- 39:54SPEAKER_15: I agree.
- 39:55SPEAKER_15: To be honest with you.
- 39:55SPEAKER_15: I agree.
- 39:56SPEAKER_15: They're probably one of the greatest.
- 39:58SPEAKER_15: They're a great party.
- 40:00SPEAKER_22: They are definitely a party band.
- 40:02SPEAKER_22: They put a lot of work into it.
- 40:04SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 40:05SPEAKER_22: They put on a great show, but kind of milk toast.
- 40:09SPEAKER_15: Um all right, so I need one more.
- 40:10SPEAKER_15: Uh you have all your all five of yours?
- 40:13SPEAKER_15: See.
- 40:14SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 40:15SPEAKER_15: I need one more, I think.
- 40:17SPEAKER_15: Uh Janie Lane?
- 40:21SPEAKER_15: Oh, yeah.
- 40:22SPEAKER_15: That's a good one.
- 40:23SPEAKER_15: Janie Lane, maybe.
- 40:24SPEAKER_15: I'm trying I'm trying to think of hair band.
- 40:25SPEAKER_15: Because if, you know, yeah.
- 40:26SPEAKER_15: I'm trying to think of hair band.
- 40:28SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 40:28SPEAKER_15: I would put Janie Lane.
- 40:30SPEAKER_15: Warrant.
- 40:30SPEAKER_15: Janie Lane of Warrant.
- 40:32SPEAKER_15: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 40:34SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 40:34SPEAKER_22: Easy one.
- 40:36SPEAKER_15: You know who's in the news?
- 40:37SPEAKER_15: Um is uh Stephen Pearcy and Warren DeMartini are reuniting rat.
- 40:44SPEAKER_15: Going out on tour.
- 40:45SPEAKER_22: I thought did we mention that a couple weeks ago?
- 40:48SPEAKER_15: I don't know if we did or not, but I read another article about it.
- 40:51SPEAKER_15: Oh, okay.
- 40:51SPEAKER_22: So it's it's for real.
- 40:52SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it's for real.
- 40:53SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 40:54SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 40:54SPEAKER_22: Sweet.
- 40:54SPEAKER_15: Alright, let's so so let's let's recap.
- 40:57SPEAKER_15: So we both said Don Dawkins, Sebastian Bach, um Tom Kiefer, you said Mike Tramp.
- 41:05SPEAKER_15: Who was your fifth one?
- 41:07SPEAKER_22: Well, we said Michael Sweet.
- 41:08SPEAKER_15: Oh, yeah, Michael Sweet.
- 41:09SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 41:09SPEAKER_15: And I said uh Michael Sweet and Janie Lane.
- 41:12SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 41:13SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 41:13SPEAKER_15: So let's see what Ultimate Classic Rock has as their top 15 hair metal singers.
- 41:21SPEAKER_15: Oh, and I should make I should qualify this too because it does say on the flip side, we've excluded some singers who preceded their hair metal zeitgeist, even if they also took part in it.
- 41:31SPEAKER_15: That means no Steven Tyler or Paul Stanley.
- 41:34SPEAKER_22: I wouldn't consider them hair metal anyway.
- 41:36SPEAKER_22: Right.
- 41:36SPEAKER_15: You know Stephen Aerosmith?
- 41:38SPEAKER_15: Come on.
- 41:39SPEAKER_15: I mean, I realized their comeback was kind of in that era.
- 41:42SPEAKER_22: Yeah, but they were not hair metal at all.
- 41:45SPEAKER_15: Exactly.
- 41:45SPEAKER_15: I got it.
- 41:46SPEAKER_15: All right, number 15.
- 41:48SPEAKER_22: Number 15, Michael Sweet Striper.
- 41:51SPEAKER_22: Are you freaking kidding me?
- 41:54SPEAKER_22: Are you freaking kidding me?
- 41:55SPEAKER_22: Finally they did something right.
- 41:57SPEAKER_22: Wow.
- 41:58SPEAKER_22: I did not see that coming.
- 42:00SPEAKER_15: It says, Imagine Dennis De Young of Styx fronting a Christian glam metal band, and you'll have a good approximation of Michael Sweet's vocal prowess.
- 42:07SPEAKER_15: I'm sorry.
- 42:08SPEAKER_15: You can't compare Michael Sweet and Dennis De Young of Styx.
- 42:12SPEAKER_15: Dennis De Young is a great singer.
- 42:14SPEAKER_15: Don't get me wrong.
- 42:15SPEAKER_15: Very recognizable.
- 42:16SPEAKER_15: But he's not a Michael Sweet.
- 42:18SPEAKER_22: Not even close.
- 42:19SPEAKER_22: Sorry.
- 42:20SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 42:21SPEAKER_15: Frontman's soaring tenor and Ironclad vibrato gave spiritual exoration exhortations like to hell with the devil the hef they deserved.
- 42:30SPEAKER_15: Yeah, number 15.
- 42:31SPEAKER_22: Wow.
- 42:32SPEAKER_22: Did not see that quite good.
- 42:33SPEAKER_15: Should we play a little bit of it?
- 42:34SPEAKER_15: Why not?
- 42:34SPEAKER_22: It's probably held to the hef.
- 42:36SPEAKER_22: It is to hell with the devil.
- 42:37SPEAKER_15: Let me let me just let me just go.
- 42:40SPEAKER_22: I was about to say get to the chorus of it.
- 42:49SPEAKER_14: There's your Belborado right there.
- 42:57SPEAKER_22: I can't believe they put it on the list.
- 42:59SPEAKER_22: I am amazed.
- 43:01SPEAKER_22: I am really amazed.
- 43:03SPEAKER_22: I never thought he would make this list.
- 43:05SPEAKER_15: So when we put him in our top five, he's number 15.
- 43:08SPEAKER_15: Number 14 is Tom Kiefer of Cinderella.
- 43:12SPEAKER_15: So they agree.
- 43:12SPEAKER_22: You can't go wrong with Tom.
- 43:13SPEAKER_22: I'm telling you, man.
- 43:14SPEAKER_22: The guy's great.
- 43:15SPEAKER_15: They agree with us on that one.
- 43:17SPEAKER_15: Actually, they agree with us on both.
- 43:18SPEAKER_15: Which song is this?
- 43:19SPEAKER_15: This is Nobody's Full.
- 43:23SPEAKER_22: Nobody's full.
- 43:24SPEAKER_15: That uh long cold winner album, though, is just unreal.
- 43:28SPEAKER_15: There's not a bad song on that album.
- 43:30SPEAKER_22: Dude, I I could just listen to the opening of that album over and over and over again because it's so great.
- 43:45SPEAKER_14: When it goes into the cord, yeah, and it goes into that top key movement.
- 44:08SPEAKER_15: And you know, he's still touring, but he can't sing like that anymore.
- 44:11SPEAKER_22: I I can't imagine why.
- 44:13SPEAKER_15: I mean, geez girl.
- 44:14SPEAKER_15: He had like vocal surgery and all kinds of stuff.
- 44:17SPEAKER_15: But he still sings great.
- 44:19SPEAKER_15: I mean, he can really sing.
- 44:20SPEAKER_15: Oh, yeah, he's a great singer.
- 44:21SPEAKER_15: What's the song Coming Home?
- 44:22SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 44:23SPEAKER_15: I'll took a walk down a road.
- 44:25SPEAKER_15: It's a road.
- 44:27SPEAKER_15: He has a great voice.
- 44:28SPEAKER_15: He does.
- 44:28SPEAKER_15: He really does.
- 44:29SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 44:30SPEAKER_15: Ooh.
- 44:31SPEAKER_15: They put John Sykes as a vocalist.
- 44:34SPEAKER_15: From that comedy?
- 44:35SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 44:35SPEAKER_15: I wonder if they did this.
- 44:37SPEAKER_15: No, this would have come out because this came out.
- 44:40SPEAKER_15: This came out a couple weeks ago.
- 44:41SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 44:42SPEAKER_15: Before John Sykes passed away.
- 44:44SPEAKER_15: So they put John Sykes on there for Blue Murder.
- 44:49SPEAKER_15: Of course, Sykes was the guitar player for Whitesnake and Blue Murder and Fin Lizzie for a while and Tigers of Pantag.
- 44:57SPEAKER_15: And and he's obviously known for his guitar prowess.
- 45:01SPEAKER_15: But less known for his vocals, and his vocals are awesome.
- 45:05SPEAKER_15: Well that's kind of but John Sykes ahead of Michael Sweet.
- 45:12SPEAKER_15: I don't know if I go there.
- 45:13SPEAKER_15: Or Tom Kiefer.
- 45:14SPEAKER_15: I don't know if I would have put him uh ahead of Tom Kiefer either.
- 45:17SPEAKER_15: But anyway.
- 45:19SPEAKER_15: I'm just impressed.
- 45:21SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 45:21SPEAKER_15: Oh, there you go.
- 45:22SPEAKER_15: Jack Russell.
- 45:23SPEAKER_15: Oh, there we go.
- 45:24SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 45:24SPEAKER_15: He's uh one of my picks.
- 45:28SPEAKER_22: Great song.
- 45:29SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 45:37SPEAKER_15: And believe it or not, I think we've talked about this too.
- 45:40SPEAKER_15: He can do a spot on Robert Plant.
- 45:43SPEAKER_22: Oh, I have that.
- 45:44SPEAKER_22: I have that tribute album that they did.
- 45:46SPEAKER_22: Oh my word.
- 45:46SPEAKER_22: I mean, it's like listening to Led Zeppelin.
- 45:49SPEAKER_15: Oh, yeah.
- 45:49SPEAKER_22: It is amazing.
- 45:50SPEAKER_22: I love the story though, not to digress, but the story of him uh when he got arrested for almost shooting somebody over drugs.
- 45:59SPEAKER_15: Yes, I think it was in that documentary.
- 46:02SPEAKER_22: That is a hilarious.
- 46:03SPEAKER_22: I mean, it's awful, but it's so funny.
- 46:06SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 46:06SPEAKER_22: At the same time, you know what I mean?
- 46:08SPEAKER_15: It was just like, I mean, you would never have pictured it from Jack Russell, but I mean, he was such a good um singer that they named a dog breed after him.
- 46:17SPEAKER_22: I don't think so.
- 46:20SPEAKER_22: I don't think that's true.
- 46:21SPEAKER_22: Come on.
- 46:22SPEAKER_22: Give me that one.
- 46:23SPEAKER_22: This is not true.
- 46:25SPEAKER_22: The Jack Russell Terrier?
- 46:26SPEAKER_22: Come on.
- 46:28SPEAKER_22: Hey, hey Jack, we're gonna you're you're such a great singer.
- 46:30SPEAKER_22: I'm gonna name this dog after you.
- 46:34SPEAKER_22: Dogs can't sing.
- 46:36SPEAKER_15: Alright, number 11.
- 46:37SPEAKER_15: I still uh hold true that this this uh guy is not of the hair band.
- 46:43SPEAKER_15: I and I understand why you put him there.
- 46:45SPEAKER_15: But he's not.
- 46:46SPEAKER_15: Is it Joe Elliott?
- 46:47SPEAKER_15: Yes, it's Joe Elliott of Def Leopard.
- 46:49SPEAKER_22: No, I think he's not hair metal.
- 46:51SPEAKER_15: Uh by the time Def Leopard released the Blockbuster Hysteria, they've begun to decenter Joe Elliott's low lead vocals in favor of their signature multi-part vocal harmonies.
- 46:59SPEAKER_15: But listen to any of the band's first three albums, and it becomes yeah, first three albums, yeah.
- 47:04SPEAKER_15: New wave of British heavy metal.
- 47:06SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 47:06SPEAKER_22: Sorry.
- 47:07SPEAKER_22: Not hair metal.
- 47:08SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 47:08SPEAKER_15: Not hair metal at all.
- 47:10SPEAKER_15: Do better.
- 47:12SPEAKER_15: Ah, this one, you know, I don't I would not go with this one.
- 47:16SPEAKER_15: No, John Karabi.
- 47:18SPEAKER_22: John Karabi.
- 47:19SPEAKER_15: Great singer.
- 47:20SPEAKER_15: Yeah, but he's no.
- 47:21SPEAKER_15: I would not I would not put him on this list.
- 47:24SPEAKER_15: In the top 15 of hair metal.
- 47:26SPEAKER_15: He was in Motley Crue.
- 47:27SPEAKER_15: That's that's the hair metal.
- 47:29SPEAKER_15: And the time, the time that he was in Motley Crue.
- 47:32SPEAKER_15: He only did one album and it sucked.
- 47:34SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 47:37SPEAKER_15: Let's just listen to his voice, dude.
- 47:50SPEAKER_15: Yeah, sorry.
- 47:51SPEAKER_15: I I'm not gonna go there.
- 47:52SPEAKER_22: Nah, I wouldn't put him in here.
- 47:52SPEAKER_22: He would never be on my list.
- 47:54SPEAKER_15: Nope.
- 47:54SPEAKER_15: Uh, Janie Lane.
- 47:56SPEAKER_15: What?
- 47:56SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 47:56SPEAKER_15: See now I just haven't, I bet.
- 47:58SPEAKER_15: No, it isn't.
- 47:59SPEAKER_15: I saw red.
- 48:00SPEAKER_15: Oh, interesting choice.
- 48:02SPEAKER_15: That is an interesting.
- 48:03SPEAKER_15: But it is a good song.
- 48:05SPEAKER_14: It is a great song.
- 48:07SPEAKER_15: I have a new appreciation for Warren, and I'm not sure why.
- 48:11SPEAKER_22: I think they just got to eyes us in the channel.
- 48:15SPEAKER_15: You know, that that whole that whole cherry pie thing.
- 48:17SPEAKER_22: Yeah, I think they got, you know, I think they got pegged as like party, party, you know, party all the time, you know, kind of guys.
- 48:26SPEAKER_22: They're actually pretty great musicians.
- 48:27SPEAKER_22: Jamie Lane's got a great voice.
- 48:29SPEAKER_22: Oh yeah.
- 48:30SPEAKER_22: You know.
- 48:32SPEAKER_22: I think the antics you know, overshadowed the talent.
- 48:36SPEAKER_15: Also, part of that, I think part of that same documentary didn't.
- 48:41SPEAKER_15: Was it wasn't it this band?
- 48:42SPEAKER_15: Wasn't it Warrant that they had to have a guitar player come in and record the guitar solo?
- 48:50SPEAKER_22: And I I don't I can't remember it was them or somebody else, but they have a guitar a session player come in.
- 48:56SPEAKER_15: Yeah, recorded the solo for the album, yeah, and then had to teach them how to play the solo.
- 49:00SPEAKER_15: Yeah, so I think it's warrant.
- 49:02SPEAKER_22: It could be pretty good.
- 49:03SPEAKER_22: But I think that was like their first album.
- 49:04SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 49:07SPEAKER_18: I don't think I'm gonna love it.
- 49:09SPEAKER_15: That's a great song.
- 49:10SPEAKER_15: I saw red.
- 49:11SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 49:11SPEAKER_15: Uh Jason McMaster of Dangerous Toys.
- 49:15SPEAKER_23: Really?
- 49:15SPEAKER_23: Yeah.
- 49:16SPEAKER_15: Now I like Dangerous Toys.
- 49:18SPEAKER_15: What was it?
- 49:18SPEAKER_15: Uh teasing pleasing?
- 49:21SPEAKER_15: This is Queen of the Nile from Dangerous Toys.
- 49:25SPEAKER_15: I I always like Dangerous Toys.
- 49:27SPEAKER_15: They're kind of a bluesy, sleepsy.
- 49:52SPEAKER_22: I mean he's good, but he's not anything I would go, whoa.
- 49:56SPEAKER_15: I do like that song, Teasing Pleasin'.
- 49:58SPEAKER_15: Do you remember that song?
- 49:58SPEAKER_15: Teasin Pleasing.
- 50:00SPEAKER_15: Oh, see now John Bon Jovi is on this list.
- 50:03SPEAKER_22: You're not hair metal.
- 50:05SPEAKER_15: They say they say he is.
- 50:07SPEAKER_15: No.
- 50:10SPEAKER_15: Rock.
- 50:11SPEAKER_15: He's definitely rock, but he's not hair metal.
- 50:13SPEAKER_15: And I wouldn't even put him on the list.
- 50:15SPEAKER_15: I mean, I like John's voice.
- 50:16SPEAKER_15: I like Richie's voice better.
- 50:18SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 50:18SPEAKER_15: But I, you know, I like John's voice, but uh I he wouldn't be in the 15.
- 50:22SPEAKER_15: He wouldn't be in my top five top 15, top five, anything like that.
- 50:25SPEAKER_22: No.
- 50:26SPEAKER_15: Um top twenty.
- 50:27SPEAKER_15: Maybe.
- 50:28SPEAKER_15: Maybe.
- 50:29SPEAKER_15: Ray Gillen of Badlands.
- 50:32SPEAKER_15: See, they're really digging here.
- 50:35SPEAKER_15: Um of course Jakey Lee was in this band.
- 50:39SPEAKER_15: Uh Eric uh Singer, who played drums for Kiss for a while.
- 50:44SPEAKER_15: Still does.
- 50:44SPEAKER_16: Still does, yeah.
- 50:50SPEAKER_16: But I think isn't uh Isn't Ray Gillen?
- 50:56SPEAKER_15: Yeah, he's dead.
- 50:59SPEAKER_16: Uh um in 1993 he passed away.
- 51:04SPEAKER_16: Guy was only 34.
- 51:05SPEAKER_16: Wow.
- 51:14SPEAKER_15: Again, great singer.
- 51:15SPEAKER_15: I'm not sure I would have put him on my Axle Rose.
- 51:18SPEAKER_15: Not hair metal.
- 51:19SPEAKER_15: Not hair metal.
- 51:21SPEAKER_15: Not hair metal.
- 51:22SPEAKER_15: They've got an axle rose at number five.
- 51:24SPEAKER_22: If you exclude the Welcome to the Jungle video where he's all teased up and you know glammy, yeah.
- 51:30SPEAKER_22: If that's what they're going on, then wrong, but this this this album is not glam at all.
- 51:37SPEAKER_22: Hair metal.
- 51:37SPEAKER_22: It's not metal.
- 51:38SPEAKER_22: It's just hard rock.
- 51:39SPEAKER_22: It's rock.
- 51:40SPEAKER_15: It's just rock and roll.
- 51:41SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 51:42SPEAKER_15: Um, it's not, it's yeah.
- 51:45SPEAKER_22: But Axel Rose is a great singer.
- 51:48SPEAKER_22: For sure.
- 51:48SPEAKER_22: Don't tell I'm not taking that away from you.
- 51:50SPEAKER_22: Yeah, so he's not hair metal.
- 51:52SPEAKER_15: They haven't covered it.
- 51:53SPEAKER_15: Not hair metal.
- 51:54SPEAKER_15: White stake has been around since like the early 70s.
- 51:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah, late 70s, early 80s, for sure.
- 52:00SPEAKER_15: You know?
- 52:00SPEAKER_15: It's not hair metal.
- 52:01SPEAKER_15: Just because they have hair, like long hair, doesn't it?
- 52:06SPEAKER_15: It is, yeah.
- 52:08SPEAKER_15: Um, you eventually gotta get it.
- 52:23SPEAKER_15: I can't pronounce it.
- 52:24SPEAKER_15: We gotta get to the pronounce it.
- 52:31SPEAKER_15: Steelheart.
- 52:33SPEAKER_22: Okay.
- 52:34SPEAKER_15: You know Steelhart, right?
- 52:35SPEAKER_22: I know Steelhart, didn't know you had a hard to pronounce name.
- 52:39SPEAKER_22: What are they from like Norway or something?
- 52:41SPEAKER_15: Uh he is uh from something like that, yeah.
- 52:51SPEAKER_08: Angela.
- 52:55SPEAKER_15: He does have a great voice.
- 52:56SPEAKER_22: He does have a great voice, and they are parametal-ish.
- 52:59SPEAKER_15: Yeah, so that hole.
- 53:06SPEAKER_16: The the end uh Oh yeah, yeah.
- 53:20SPEAKER_14: Just the just the end note.
- 53:23SPEAKER_14: I mean come on.
- 53:30SPEAKER_14: This is just showing off.
- 53:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah, that's ridiculous.
- 53:45SPEAKER_15: I can do that.
- 53:45SPEAKER_15: Alright, so so we said Don Dawkins.
- 53:49SPEAKER_15: We said so he hasn't been mentioned yet.
- 53:51SPEAKER_15: Nope.
- 53:51SPEAKER_15: Uh we did say Tom Kiefer, so we got one, you know, one for two.
- 53:56SPEAKER_15: Um we we said uh Sebastian Bach.
- 53:59SPEAKER_23: Yeah.
- 53:59SPEAKER_15: We said Mike Tramp.
- 54:00SPEAKER_15: We said Janie.
- 54:01SPEAKER_15: So I said Janie Lane and Michael Sweet.
- 54:03SPEAKER_15: Um, so Don Dawkins is not on there yet.
- 54:09SPEAKER_22: Sebastian Bach's not on there.
- 54:10SPEAKER_15: Sebastian Bach is not on there.
- 54:11SPEAKER_15: I bet you he will be.
- 54:13SPEAKER_15: I don't think Don Dawkins will be.
- 54:14SPEAKER_22: Probably not.
- 54:16SPEAKER_15: Sebastian will be.
- 54:20SPEAKER_22: Yeah, Sebastian's gonna be there.
- 54:21SPEAKER_15: Sebastian Bach's gotta be on there.
- 54:22SPEAKER_15: Okay, so let's see.
- 54:23SPEAKER_15: So that was uh Steel Heart, and that was number three.
- 54:25SPEAKER_15: So we only have two left.
- 54:26SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 54:27SPEAKER_15: Let's see.
- 54:28SPEAKER_15: Let's see what we can do.
- 54:30SPEAKER_15: CJ Snare of Firehouse.
- 54:34SPEAKER_22: The late Great Yeah, okay.
- 54:35SPEAKER_22: The late Great CJ Snare.
- 54:37SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 54:37SPEAKER_22: He was great, and it is hair metal.
- 54:39SPEAKER_15: It is hair metal.

- 55:35SPEAKER_22: Definitely.
- 55:35SPEAKER_15: All right, let's see who number one is.

- 55:38SPEAKER_15: It is Sebastian Bach.
- 55:39SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 55:40SPEAKER_15: It is Sebastian Bach.
- 55:41SPEAKER_15: And this is a great example of why.
- 55:43SPEAKER_15: I don't know if you've ever heard this song or not, but wasted time.
- 55:46SPEAKER_22: Oh, yeah, great song.
- 55:47SPEAKER_15: Uh just a beautiful watch you die.
- 56:01SPEAKER_14: So we had a few on the list.
- 56:02SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 56:23SPEAKER_15: I do like um you think of what Aside from a couple uh on this list, they used songs that weren't like typical, like what you like.
- 56:35SPEAKER_15: They didn't use Heavy or Cherry Pie for a while.
- 56:37SPEAKER_22: Well, I was about to say th I was surprised they didn't use Youth Gone Wild.

- 56:51SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 56:51SPEAKER_15: Um that's pretty cool.
- 56:52SPEAKER_15: You know, they went a little deeper on uh on a couple of those.
- 56:55SPEAKER_22: That was nice of them.
- 56:56SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 56:57SPEAKER_15: Uh you guys.
- 56:58SPEAKER_15: So there you go.
- 56:59SPEAKER_15: Uh we don't agree with all of them, uh Ultimate Classic Rock, but we uh we we do agree with It is a pretty good list.
- 57:05SPEAKER_15: It is a pretty good list.
- 57:06SPEAKER_15: Pretty good list.
- 57:08SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 57:08SPEAKER_15: Uh let's um let's get uh this off our chests.
- 57:14SPEAKER_07: It's time.
- 57:15SPEAKER_15: It's time, it's time.
- 57:16SPEAKER_15: It's time.
- 57:17SPEAKER_14: Hear the music.
- 57:24SPEAKER_14: I will be honest with you.
- 57:26SPEAKER_15: I haven't thought of a song for this question.
- 57:32SPEAKER_15: I'm gonna.
- 57:33SPEAKER_15: While you're reading, well, we're gonna go into the past first anyway, right?
- 57:36SPEAKER_15: So we're gonna go into the past.
- 57:38SPEAKER_15: And the past! While you're kind of revisiting that, I'm gonna try and think of an answer.
- 57:44SPEAKER_22: Okay, you do that.
- 57:46SPEAKER_15: For this week's question.
- 57:47SPEAKER_22: I'm gonna read what our awesome judge said.
- 57:54SPEAKER_22: Okay, so this is what our awesome judge said.
- 57:56SPEAKER_22: This week was a was a difficult pick.
- 57:58SPEAKER_22: All the songs were great and very fitting for battling the sails in a storm.
- 58:03SPEAKER_22: But I had to go with Dropkick Murphy, shipping up to Boston.
- 58:08SPEAKER_22: So there we go.
- 58:11SPEAKER_22: She said the music is great.
- 58:13SPEAKER_22: I know it's a short lyrical song and repeats, but the music is perfect for battling the rough seas.
- 58:18SPEAKER_22: What did I what did I pick again?
- 58:20SPEAKER_15: I don't remember what I picked.
- 58:22SPEAKER_17: I don't remember now.
- 58:24SPEAKER_15: Oh, you know what I picked was uh well.
- 58:28SPEAKER_15: Oh, I remember.
- 58:29SPEAKER_15: It was something like oh no, it was uh Wings of the Storm from our.
- 58:32SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 58:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's right.
- 58:35SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 58:37SPEAKER_15: Okay, I'm gonna I'm not gonna I'm not gonna do any more research than this.
- 58:43SPEAKER_15: Okay, so t the person uh present question.
- 58:46SPEAKER_15: Present, okay.
- 58:46SPEAKER_22: So let's go to cousin Larry.
- 58:48SPEAKER_15: What's the question?
- 58:50SPEAKER_22: Oh, it's the uh quitting a job one.
- 58:53SPEAKER_15: You're quitting a job, huh?
- 58:54SPEAKER_22: Quitting a job, yeah.
- 58:54SPEAKER_22: Okay.
- 58:55SPEAKER_22: Okay, uh let's see.
- 59:00SPEAKER_22: This was this was funny because this is this was his he always has something to say before.
- 59:04SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 59:05SPEAKER_22: He's like, mixtape.
- 59:06SPEAKER_22: With respect to the 90s NBA, I love this game.
- 59:10SPEAKER_22: So that that's that's high praise.
- 59:13SPEAKER_22: Okay, so my first thought was Johnny Paycheck.
- 59:16SPEAKER_22: Let's take this off.
- 59:17SPEAKER_13: Of course it was.
- 59:18SPEAKER_22: And shove it.
- 59:18SPEAKER_22: And of course, the version uh by Cannabis and Biz Markey from the movie Office Space, one of my favorite movies of all time.
- 59:26SPEAKER_22: But since those are off the table, so it's I have to go with Walk by Pantera.
- 59:31SPEAKER_22: Oh my goodness.
- 59:31SPEAKER_22: If I'm quitting and walking away and throwing a cheeseburger at my boss, nothing says up yours better than walk and a cheeseburger to the face.
- 59:39SPEAKER_22: Honorable mention to CeeLo Green's Forget You and its alternate version, which we can't say on the podcast because young ones are listening.
- 59:48SPEAKER_15: Yeah, Lanterns.
- 59:49SPEAKER_15: Um actually to look at it.
- 59:50SPEAKER_15: Uh here we go.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_15: Probably work with that.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_15: I was just enjoying the performance over here.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_22: I love this song.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_22: Such a great song.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_22: I can tell.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_22: When they did it alive, it man, it's just it's the energy is just like off the church.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_22: Uh all right, so Honorable mention to Phil Ensalmo.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_22: He's got a great voice.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_15: Oh, we call it hair metal, though.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_22: No, he's not hair metal, but he's got a better voice than people think.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_22: If you listen to the song Cemetery Gates, yeah, that dude can sing.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_22: I bet.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_22: It's a great song.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_22: But anyway.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_22: Oh, so he came back with something else.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_22: Uh, side note, I once quit a job as a teenager where I was working for the owner of a local convenience store called The Little Giant.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_22: I mopped the floors, mowed him uh mowed among other tasks.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_22: One day the weed whacker kept stalling on me.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_22: The owner got mad at me and started yelling at me.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_22: I walked over to him, dropped the weed whacker's feet, and told him to shove it up as I quit.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_22: I think walk would be a cool song to be playing.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_22: That's why Cousin Larry's the best.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_15: And yours?
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_22: I went in a direction nobody ever expected me to go.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_22: I went where these boots were made for walking.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_22: Crazy Sinatra.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_15: Wow.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_15: Let's see.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_15: Great song.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_01: You keep saying you got something for me.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_22: A paycheck.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_01: Something you call love, but confessed.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_22: It's more like money though.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_01: You've been a messin' where you shouldn't have been a messin'.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_22: With my paycheck.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_01: And now someone else is getting all your best.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_22: Not me.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_22: My money.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: These boots are made for walking.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: And that's just what they'll do.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: One of these days, these boots are gonna walk all over you.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_13: Good choice.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_13: Go, go, go, go.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_22: I like the song a lot.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_15: Yeah, me too.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_15: Me too.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_15: Um, so walk from Pantera.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_15: Uh, Nancy Sinatra's these boots are made for walking.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_15: Notice they all have walking themes.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_15: They do.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_15: Alright, so mine's a little different, and mine we may have to censor.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_15: Um, so if I got if I was walking out, I would say.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_04: Um kiss my ass.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_04: Don't care if dad hits eleven buck tomorrow.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_04: Kiss my ass.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_04: Kiss my ass.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_04: Kiss my ass.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_15: Dennis Leary.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_15: Dennis Leary.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_15: And I totally forgot about this dog.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_15: It's my, you know.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_15: Now it doesn't really apply to the lyrics don't really apply to quitting a job, but I just like the the beep and the this one.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_22: Come on.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_22: That is so perfect, man.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_13: I wish I had thought of that one.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_13: That's awesome.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_13: So there you have it.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_13: Choose wisely.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_15: Any one of those would work.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_22: Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_22: Any one of those would work.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_22: So we got Walk by Pantero from Cousin Larry.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_22: I got These Boots from Me Walking Nancy Sinatra.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_22: You got Kiss My Kiss My Ass by Dennis.

- 1:05:10SPEAKER_13: I did not see that one coming.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_13: That is awesome.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_13: And I picked that at the last minute, too.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_13: Dude, I totally forgot about that song, man.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_22: That is so funny.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_22: Because I love Dennis Larry.

- 1:07:59SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_15: Alright, so so here is uh Doug's idea.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_15: What did you just put in?

- 1:08:40SPEAKER_22: Woo!
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_15: Uh it's actually one of the greatest.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_22: Wow.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_22: But this is a pretty great fanfare.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_22: I mean, this idea sucks, but this fanfare is great, man.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_22: Woo! Alright, tell us about it.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_22: So anyway, I was saying I uh I told you that I bought the uh Hootie and the Blowfish reissues in the Atlantic years.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_22: Yep.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_22: And they had their cover album.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_15: Scattered, smothered, and covered.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_22: And I thought, man, what what songs would we put on a cover album?
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_15: Like if we were covering this.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_22: We were covering we if we wanted to do a cover album.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_22: What songs by what artist would we put on?
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_15: That was perfect.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_15: Um we probably won't we need like a 10 or 15.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_22: I don't have a hoodie for you.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_15: You would just make a hoodie.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_15: Maybe we can't.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_22: I know.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_22: That's the whole beauty of it.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_22: Just change it up a little bit.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_18: You and me, we gonna roll me around the world.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_18: You like to laugh at me when I look at a girl.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_18: So damn the crazy, and you wonder why I'm such a bee.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_16: Say what you want about a hooting and bloodfish.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_16: I love them.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_16: I love these.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_16: Always have.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_23: Yeah.
- 1:11:03unknown: I've been looking for you.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_16: Okay, so that's one of yours.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_15: That's one of mine, yeah.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_15: Um I've already got one on this kind of same page here.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_15: Um if I had to uh add a cover ghost, yes!
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_14: Indigo girls ghosts.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_14: I just I just maybe I just want to hear this uh harmony coming up.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_14: I love this is my favorite song.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_05: At a place that you could walk across with five steps down, and I guess that's how you started, like a pinprick to my heart.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_05: But at this point it rushed right through me, and I start to drown.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_05: And there's not enough room in this world for my day.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_05: Signals crossed, love gets lost.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_05: Time passes, makes it plain.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_05: All my demons, spirits, I need you the most.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_05: I'm in love with your girls.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_16: Alright, so that's that's my pick.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_16: Nice.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_16: You got one?
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_16: Give me another one.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_22: Uh, bare naked ladies.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_22: Alright, which one?
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_22: I'm not entirely sure.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_22: Okay.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_22: Uh oh.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_22: Because when we were starting out, they only had the you know, the Gordon album.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_22: Um because there's so many great songs, uh great songs on that album.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_15: You we wouldn't do the the blasphemous one, right?
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_22: The blasphemous one?
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_15: Yeah, you wouldn't do like uh if I had a million dollars.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_22: No, no, it would be something other than that.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_22: Um Brian Wilson.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_22: It is.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_22: I might I might do this one.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_15: It's a great song.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_15: Or or let's see, I don't have Gordon in here.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_26: Lion and Pep, just like Brian Wilson did.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_26: Oh man, this brings back memories.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_14: Just that right there.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_26: Just like Brian Wilson did.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_14: See, now this makes me want to leave the Common Crossing Facebook page up.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_22: Right?
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_22: Yeah, man.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_22: I mean, this is this is what got us started.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_22: This is what this is what turned us into a band was stuff like this.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_22: No question.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_22: Booty, bare naked lady, you know?
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_22: Yep.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_22: Yep, no question.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_26: And I'm thinking about what the thing about.
