- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast. Welcome to a Girls
- 0:23Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark, a Homewark review podcast. I'm Megan and I'm
- 0:26Speaker 1: a long time Hallmark fan. Today we are reviewing the
- 0:30Speaker 1: season finale of season two of The Chicken Sisters, and
- 0:34Speaker 1: I have the absolute pleasure of being joined for this
- 0:37Speaker 1: episode by Patrick Serrano, host of the lifetime Uncorked podcast
- 0:42Speaker 1: alongside Dan and Bran of doc The Hallmark. Patrick, thank
- 0:45Speaker 1: you for being here today.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so excited. You know, you sent out the
- 0:50Speaker 2: request for for people to join, and I was like,
- 0:52Speaker 2: I gotta get on this because I had a ex
- 0:55Speaker 2: boyfriend text me like when Chicken Sister started and he
- 0:59Speaker 2: was like, hey, I know you're like homework and you
- 1:00Speaker 2: like Chicken. So do you watch a show?
- 1:04Speaker 1: So did you watch the first season of this show
- 1:07Speaker 1: when it was originally airing?
- 1:09Speaker 2: No, So here's the deal. I'm coming in cold to this.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So I just I just I was like, I had
- 1:16Speaker 2: him all recorded. I talked to my mom. I was like, Mom,
- 1:18Speaker 2: you watched the first season? Should I do it? And
- 1:21Speaker 2: She's like, oh, yeah, you should watch it. And I
- 1:23Speaker 2: just haven't had time. But they're all sitting in my
- 1:26Speaker 2: queue and I was like, really know what, I'm not
- 1:28Speaker 2: gonna binge it. I'm just gonna jump in, watch the
- 1:32Speaker 2: watch the finale, and take it as a finale, possibly
- 1:35Speaker 2: a series finale. Well we don't know yet, we don't know,
- 1:38Speaker 2: so yeah, I'm coming in like your friend who just
- 1:43Speaker 2: happened to come over while this was one and watch it?
- 1:46Speaker 1: Kind of like when my husband. My husband is a
- 1:48Speaker 1: big fan of Days of Our Lives and I haven't
- 1:50Speaker 1: watched that show since I was in high school. So
- 1:51Speaker 1: I walk in, I'm like, wait, what's going on with
- 1:53Speaker 1: and he's like you can't. He's like, you need to
- 1:56Speaker 1: watch it every day or not at all. So yes,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I'm very from being that person. So a little bit
- 2:04Speaker 1: more about you before we talk the Chicken sisters. I mean,
- 2:06Speaker 1: you talk Lifetime regularly. How did you get into that
- 2:09Speaker 1: lifetime reviewing life?
- 2:12Speaker 2: Oh goodness, I mean it's been like since birth, probably
- 2:17Speaker 2: you know, coming home from school watching the little tawdry
- 2:22Speaker 2: after school special, you know, type of murder, cheerleader murder. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 2: all the cautionary teen tales like don't be homeless and
- 2:31Speaker 2: go to Harvard or don't be fifteen and get pregnant. Yeah, yes, yes,
- 2:37Speaker 2: So a long time Lifetime watcher. And then I was
- 2:42Speaker 2: in Chicago working in storefront theater running with my friends
- 2:45Speaker 2: and we decided not to renew the least on the building.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We were like, okay, we've done the thing. So my
- 2:52Speaker 2: friend Drew took all the recording equipment because we weren't
- 2:55Speaker 2: going to do anything with it, and he started a
- 2:56Speaker 2: podcast network and he's like, you watch those Christmas movies right,
- 3:00Speaker 2: because I was writing like little on Facebook when Facebook
- 3:04Speaker 2: was a thing. I was writing like many many like
- 3:08Speaker 2: jokey synopsies about you know, I don't even remember. This
- 3:12Speaker 2: is probably twenty sixteen.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Oh wow.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Yeah. And then so we started a podcast there. I
- 3:19Speaker 2: was on his network, and then the boys found me
- 3:22Speaker 2: or they started their podcast. They reached out and they
- 3:23Speaker 2: were like, hey, you know about podcasts and you're talking
- 3:26Speaker 2: about the movies we want to talk about. How do
- 3:28Speaker 2: we do that? It's like, who are these people? They're
- 3:31Speaker 2: so crazy? Then they blew up and then they were like, hey,
- 3:35Speaker 2: come along the ride with me, and I was like, okay,
- 3:38Speaker 2: that's it.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Really well, we of course will leave links in our
- 3:43Speaker 1: show notes, but you can listen to Patrick on the
- 3:45Speaker 1: Lifetime Uncorked podcast hallmarking over there a little more salacious usually.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Though usually yeah, and I only do the Hamewark Christmas
- 3:54Speaker 2: ones because you gotta watch the Christmas ones. Sure, but
- 3:58Speaker 2: I do Lifetime Murder all year round.
- 4:00Speaker 1: All year round. I love it. I will say Murder
- 4:03Speaker 1: is more Wendy's vibe than Hallmark Christmas, so she'd be
- 4:06Speaker 1: all in on that.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, the Lifetime is a little crazy with
- 4:11Speaker 2: They're they're really into the true crime right now. True
- 4:13Speaker 2: crime is like their bread and button.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Ripped from the headline situation.
- 4:18Speaker 2: So that gets tricky, tricky to talk about because you're like,
- 4:20Speaker 2: this really happened.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I don't know, I'll talk about it respectfully without.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Ye and you now, which which is great. They have
- 4:27Speaker 2: the people that are actually like involved, Like Honey Boo
- 4:29Speaker 2: Boo was like narrating the Honey Boo Boo story.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Oh interesting.
- 4:34Speaker 2: They just did a Courtney stodd In one where Courtney
- 4:36Speaker 2: Stott and kind of got to reframe her her marriage
- 4:38Speaker 2: and like all that crazy stuff with her like coming
- 4:41Speaker 2: being a minor and like how that was problematic. You're like,
- 4:45Speaker 2: yeah it was, but at the time it was very
- 4:48Speaker 2: salacious and everybody wanted to talk about it, but she
- 4:50Speaker 2: was like, uh yeah, not my life. Yeah, this is
- 4:54Speaker 2: my life. Wow. She just wanted to sing. She just
- 4:56Speaker 2: wanted to be a singer.
- 5:06Speaker 1: We're going to get into the Chicken Sisters season, hopefully
- 5:09Speaker 1: not series finale because we are left on a cliffhanger, but.
- 5:14Speaker 2: A big cliffhanger, I know.
- 5:17Speaker 1: So we're going to kick it off and tell me
- 5:19Speaker 1: what your first impression of this episode was.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Okay, So I listened to a launcha episode before coming
- 5:26Speaker 2: on so I could get the kind of gist of
- 5:28Speaker 2: how the podcast work and what happened in the episode before,
- 5:31Speaker 2: because I was like, I at least need to know.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Sounds like there was a big storm, so we're getting
- 5:35Speaker 2: liked the aftermath of that, and it didn't really look
- 5:38Speaker 2: as like storm tattered as I thought it was going through.
- 5:42Speaker 2: In my imagination when you guys were describing it, I
- 5:45Speaker 2: was picturing I don't know what I was picturing, but
- 5:47Speaker 2: I guess my imagination ran wild on that. But this
- 5:50Speaker 2: was very homework version of a.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Really only that Mimi's restaurant was destroyed and everything else
- 5:56Speaker 1: remains standing.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so you know, my first impressions were like trying
- 6:01Speaker 2: to figure out who people were and everything, and I,
- 6:03Speaker 2: you know, quickly figured out, you know, Wendy Malik is
- 6:06Speaker 2: like the matriarch, and then there's her daughter, and then
- 6:10Speaker 2: her daughter's daughters and then the daughter's darter. So that's
- 6:13Speaker 2: where the sisters thing come in and got all that.
- 6:16Speaker 2: But my question to you is, why is everyone so
- 6:20Speaker 2: mean to Frank Junior? What did he do?
- 6:22Speaker 1: Oh? My goodness, Patrick, how much time do you have?
- 6:26Speaker 2: I was like, everybody is so mean to this man.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Up until this episode, I have been saying, all love
- 6:32Speaker 1: to James Cott, but Frank Junior is the worst, the worst,
- 6:35Speaker 1: the worst. Okay, season one, he he was a terrible
- 6:40Speaker 1: husband to Amanda. And the whole premise of season one
- 6:43Speaker 1: is there's this kitchen clash series and it's the two restaurants,
- 6:48Speaker 1: rival restaurants, fighting against each other, and Frank ultimately betrays
- 6:52Speaker 1: them in the end. And this season has been kind
- 6:57Speaker 1: of about the women reclaiming their lives from them men,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and Frank Juniors continued to be kind of terrible throughout,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and I've been saying all along, I don't want a
- 7:06Speaker 1: Frank Junior redemption story because I could feel like that's
- 7:08Speaker 1: where we were going. I'm like I don't want it.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna surprise some people today because I
- 7:13Speaker 1: was pretty impressed with how it was handled, because I
- 7:16Speaker 1: was ready to just see Frank Junior right off into
- 7:18Speaker 1: the sunset. But okay, well we'll talk a little bit
- 7:21Speaker 1: more about him.
- 7:23Speaker 2: And he's the guy who who was in the chicken
- 7:25Speaker 2: shop or the chicken one of the chicken places, the
- 7:29Speaker 2: one that didn't get taken down by the storm with
- 7:33Speaker 2: the recipe, right, that was him.
- 7:35Speaker 1: That's him. Yeah, so that's part of the whole part
- 7:38Speaker 1: of the split. At the end of season one is
- 7:40Speaker 1: this dude bro podcast or Christian kind of comes in
- 7:44Speaker 1: and brings Frank under his wing to open this big franchise,
- 7:48Speaker 1: which is terrible because they.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Had they had the powdered gravy in the background was exactly,
- 7:54Speaker 2: that's the bad place. That's the bad place, exactly.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And Frank infuses it with what he knows, having worked
- 8:01Speaker 1: in the chicken restaurant that's actually good his entire life.
- 8:04Speaker 1: And now Christian wants to take that recipe from him,
- 8:09Speaker 1: and Frank obviously does not give him the real deal.
- 8:13Speaker 2: He is put in some fake ingredients.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Indeed, indeed, so I got to say, as far as
- 8:19Speaker 1: first impressions, for me, I really feel like this episode
- 8:23Speaker 1: tied this season up with such a nice bow. I
- 8:26Speaker 1: do have a couple little wishes about things that I
- 8:28Speaker 1: had hoped would happen, but for the most part, I
- 8:30Speaker 1: was so much of what we were hoping for came
- 8:33Speaker 1: to fruition in this episode. And we should start with
- 8:37Speaker 1: Frank Junior's turnaround. So you as a watcher saw a
- 8:41Speaker 1: coming in brand new kind of the surprise on people's
- 8:45Speaker 1: face over and over again when Frank Junior would come
- 8:49Speaker 1: in kindly and they're like, what's happening here? What's going
- 8:53Speaker 1: on here? I can't And I think did it come
- 8:56Speaker 1: off as like distrust when you're.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Watching that, it seemed to me like he obviously did
- 9:02Speaker 2: something like really bad, and because like the narrator was
- 9:06Speaker 2: dogging on him, like everybody was like, man, he sucks,
- 9:09Speaker 2: but then his actions were like totally going against that.
- 9:12Speaker 2: So for me, I was like, oh, he seems kind,
- 9:14Speaker 2: he seems not that bad. He seems like a nice guy.
- 9:16Speaker 1: But yeah, I think they did a great job with
- 9:19Speaker 1: his story. And I the thing that I really like,
- 9:21Speaker 1: again I've been saying I don't want it. I don't
- 9:23Speaker 1: want it. They The one reason, and Alonzo touched on
- 9:28Speaker 1: this last week, the one reason I did want it
- 9:30Speaker 1: is he has a daughter, and you want that harmony.
- 9:33Speaker 1: You want him to be a good person for her,
- 9:35Speaker 1: at least if none of these other women. His mother
- 9:39Speaker 1: was still trying really hard to have a relationship with him,
- 9:42Speaker 1: And so I think he did take accountability and own
- 9:45Speaker 1: up for the stuff that he did and actually apologize
- 9:48Speaker 1: and then took it a step farther and built that
- 9:52Speaker 1: big improbable arch for the Weddy.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so uh, you know, and like when he
- 9:58Speaker 2: was with Sergio two, like how he was like being
- 10:00Speaker 2: cool with that and like he could tell, like, Amanda, Sergio,
- 10:03Speaker 2: we're getting together, and he was like, you know, not
- 10:06Speaker 2: encouraging it, but he was like trying to get to
- 10:09Speaker 2: know him a little bit.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Yeah, certainly not stopping it. I mean he calls him bro.
- 10:12Speaker 1: The look on Sergio's face is my favorite in that moment.
- 10:15Speaker 1: And so yeah, I really appreciate the writing team here
- 10:19Speaker 1: making me believe in this redemption and not just feeling
- 10:23Speaker 1: like it was something we had to do to check
- 10:25Speaker 1: a box. So that's my biggest moment. What are somethings
- 10:28Speaker 1: you liked about this episode.
- 10:31Speaker 2: So I was so happy that it was the wedding
- 10:33Speaker 2: episode because I love a wedding. It was funny to
- 10:37Speaker 2: me that, you know, tornado comes through the town, the
- 10:40Speaker 2: town bands together not to fix the town, but to
- 10:42Speaker 2: put on the wedding. So that was that was great.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I was like, man, this town has their priorities in check.
- 10:48Speaker 2: They're not gonna let this chicken sister not have her wedding.
- 10:52Speaker 2: And it was like so like the decor was so
- 10:55Speaker 2: beautiful and like everything was so I kind of think,
- 10:58Speaker 2: like a mismatched like tablescape is so cool. Like I
- 11:03Speaker 2: loved how they were just like pulling on it must
- 11:05Speaker 2: because they were pulling all the random things out of
- 11:07Speaker 2: everyone's houses. Right.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Yeah, but I wasn't like this plan. No, definitely not
- 11:11Speaker 1: the plan. They had this big, beautiful setup. It was
- 11:13Speaker 1: blown over by the tornado. It just felt so much
- 11:15Speaker 1: more personal, Like this felt like the way it always
- 11:17Speaker 1: should have been in this town.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah. So I love that, and I love I love
- 11:22Speaker 2: the archway that you mentioned with the purple flower so beautiful.
- 11:26Speaker 2: The wedding could have been longer for me. I could
- 11:28Speaker 2: have had like most of the episode be the wedding,
- 11:31Speaker 2: but that's okay. We had things to get to I understand,
- 11:34Speaker 2: but I was like so happy for the wedding to
- 11:36Speaker 2: be to be the episode that I was doing. And
- 11:40Speaker 2: oh my gosh, being ordained online so funny. That was hilarious. Yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 2: where they're like this is this really this easy, and
- 11:47Speaker 2: you're like, yeah, it actually is. Yeah, it was.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It was great. There's a really interesting scene in this movie.
- 11:53Speaker 1: It's the morning after the slumber party the breakfast, and
- 11:56Speaker 1: the breakfast scene is filmed in a single shot and
- 11:59Speaker 1: it's really well choreographed and they go through the entire
- 12:01Speaker 1: kitchen and all the characters are there, and I actually
- 12:04Speaker 1: rewound to see because I was like, did were there
- 12:07Speaker 1: any cuts? No, like straight through the kitchen, and I
- 12:10Speaker 1: just like the thought and choreography that is put into
- 12:14Speaker 1: that moment to make sure all the pieces come together
- 12:16Speaker 1: and everyone's passing the dishes. It was a little bit
- 12:19Speaker 1: of a departure from the kind of cinematography we see
- 12:21Speaker 1: in the show, and I call it was really well done.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yeah, It's almost like a play when you do like
- 12:27Speaker 2: a long shot like that, because everybody has to be
- 12:29Speaker 2: like hitting exactly where they need to be. And like
- 12:32Speaker 2: you just rehearse it a bunch and then you kind
- 12:34Speaker 2: of do it, and yeah, it's a really cool effect.
- 12:37Speaker 2: So that's exciting that Hallmark is experimenting with different types
- 12:42Speaker 2: of camera work. And you know, speaks well of the
- 12:45Speaker 2: directors too that they can they're being backed up to
- 12:49Speaker 2: take the time to do that because it's not easy.
- 12:51Speaker 1: No, I agree, And I think the writing team on
- 12:53Speaker 1: the show is really interesting. I don't know if you know,
- 12:55Speaker 1: but it's a completely different showrunner from season one to
- 12:57Speaker 1: season two, and season two the showrunner as Aaron Gibson,
- 13:01Speaker 1: who is a comedy podcaster. She has a highly successful
- 13:05Speaker 1: podcast turned into a TV show, and a lot of
- 13:08Speaker 1: the writers are big in the comedy world as well,
- 13:11Speaker 1: and so I think they've really been trying to do
- 13:14Speaker 1: something really different with the show. It's definitely different from
- 13:17Speaker 1: the standard Hallmark stable of writers, and so I think
- 13:21Speaker 1: this show I don't think does very well on Hallmark unfortunately,
- 13:25Speaker 1: because I think it's interesting and I think they're trying
- 13:28Speaker 1: new things and I kind of wish more people would
- 13:31Speaker 1: give it a chance, especially I text Wendy's not here
- 13:34Speaker 1: because Wendy did not enjoy this show, and so I said,
- 13:37Speaker 1: let's try something different. But I texted her last night
- 13:40Speaker 1: I was like, the finale is genuinely so good, especially
- 13:43Speaker 1: because she had watched all the first season. I so
- 13:45Speaker 1: I think you.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Should, right, she give a watch, give it a chance.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I love that the comedy people are coming in because
- 13:51Speaker 2: you know, comedy like takes a lot of work, and
- 13:54Speaker 2: you know it seems like so off the cuff, but
- 13:56Speaker 2: it's actually so like precise. That wedding planner she walks
- 14:00Speaker 2: up on the wedding site and just like screams bloody murder.
- 14:04Speaker 2: That was hilarious. I like rewound that three times, so
- 14:08Speaker 2: I was like, is this really happening? This is great. Yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Rickay Bernard is such a gem. I love her as
- 14:13Speaker 1: Sabrina in the show.
- 14:15Speaker 2: It's so funny some of that.
- 14:16Speaker 1: One of the small threads I love is Gruster, who
- 14:19Speaker 1: is her romantic interest. He was in season one, there
- 14:22Speaker 1: was kind of a flirtation, and he only has been
- 14:24Speaker 1: back for one episode of season two. But I love
- 14:26Speaker 1: that we see like it's hinted. We didn't see them
- 14:30Speaker 1: in the Tornado episode. He came out back the episode
- 14:33Speaker 1: before that, and Alonzo and I were thinking like, well,
- 14:35Speaker 1: happened with Sabrina and Gruster. It kind of hints that
- 14:38Speaker 1: maybe they were sheltering in place together or something is
- 14:41Speaker 1: going on there. He calls her sweetheart. It was a
- 14:43Speaker 1: nice little moment. Nice to see them close the loop
- 14:46Speaker 1: on that a little bit, give us some closure, knowing
- 14:49Speaker 1: that maybe they'll have something going forward. Oh.
- 14:52Speaker 2: I was definitely shipping them. I was into that for sure.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And the teenage daughter also being like, oh Mom, what's
- 14:58Speaker 2: happening here? Like that relationship with the mom and the
- 15:02Speaker 2: teenage daughter to like talk about, like, oh you have
- 15:05Speaker 2: a hot boyfriend. Mom like that? Yes, great.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Both moms have that moment with their daughters, and the
- 15:10Speaker 1: daughters I like, are both fully supportive and on board
- 15:13Speaker 1: with these new relations.
- 15:13Speaker 2: That's awesome to be able to have that type of
- 15:16Speaker 2: conversation with your teenage you know, daughter, mother daughter. That's great. Yeah.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I loved that, And as the mother of a teenager,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I can only dream that we have that sort of relationship. Ah.
- 15:28Speaker 1: A couple other things that I think are worth pointing
- 15:31Speaker 1: out in this episode. We get closure on the train
- 15:35Speaker 1: finally stopping in town. This is something we were visiting
- 15:38Speaker 1: every single episode. The broke Well two things. The broken
- 15:41Speaker 1: train arm was a cause of conflict about the entire season,
- 15:45Speaker 1: and they do finally get it fixed, all thanks to
- 15:48Speaker 1: Nancy finding her voice. And then the very end of
- 15:51Speaker 1: the episode, we learn the train is stopping in Marynac.
- 15:55Speaker 1: The train has not stopped in Marynac for many, many
- 15:57Speaker 1: years and Alonso I hope he appreciated this moment because
- 16:03Speaker 1: he was saying, last week we have this kitchen clash exposure,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and so they were hoping this is going to bring
- 16:09Speaker 1: all these new people to town. It was so great
- 16:11Speaker 1: for their restaurants, and we didn't really see that come
- 16:14Speaker 1: to Fruition, and now we finally get that right in
- 16:16Speaker 1: the closing moments of this episode, so everything it's all
- 16:19Speaker 1: coming together.
- 16:21Speaker 2: That's when all the French people came into the restaurant, exactly.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Amanda out and she sees this huge line of people
- 16:28Speaker 1: because the train finally stops in town.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I got it, okay cool.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I had also suspected that Nancy was going to run
- 16:36Speaker 1: for mayor and she is. I feel very proud of
- 16:38Speaker 1: myself for guessing that one. That's going to be great
- 16:42Speaker 1: for season three if we get it.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Right. And then it would be her rival who would
- 16:48Speaker 2: be her rival mayor, well.
- 16:50Speaker 1: The current mayor probably who was played by Lachlan Monroe,
- 16:54Speaker 1: who you probably know because he's been in a billion things.
- 16:57Speaker 1: You'd definitely recognize his face. But he kind of fell
- 17:01Speaker 1: down on the job this season, and so she had
- 17:03Speaker 1: to step in and so hopefully she boots him on
- 17:06Speaker 1: out of there. A big vibe of this season has
- 17:10Speaker 1: been these women finding their voice and stepping into their power.
- 17:13Speaker 1: So it's definitely a matriarchy, as you mentioned. And finally,
- 17:18Speaker 1: Nancy and Gus, former rivals now best friends, both on
- 17:22Speaker 1: their first flight ever together traveling to Italy. I thought
- 17:27Speaker 1: it was great.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to see that show. Can we get
- 17:31Speaker 2: like a summer in Italy?
- 17:33Speaker 1: Yeah right, I'm envisioning it like Real Housewifestyle. What's the
- 17:36Speaker 1: one where they go to crappy Oh, crappy Lake, That's
- 17:38Speaker 1: the one i'ming. Oh nice, you have a Bravo watcher.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I'm not a Bravo watcher, but sometimes I watch Andy
- 17:45Speaker 2: Cohen on the Late night Oh yeah, I like the
- 17:49Speaker 2: celebrity interviews. You know. I want to be one of
- 17:52Speaker 2: those the bar boys whatever those boys are called. The Yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 2: let's do it together. Yeah, we'll do it together. You
- 18:02Speaker 2: pour the drinks, so now like prep the ice or
- 18:04Speaker 2: something perfect.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I mean, I don't have any idea how to make
- 18:07Speaker 1: most cocktails, but we'll have a good time back there,
- 18:10Speaker 1: right Or anything else you liked about this episode?
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it was just good, good vibes, like even the
- 18:17Speaker 2: stuff that was more not spooky, but you know, like
- 18:21Speaker 2: the recipe stuff could have been. Like I was feeling
- 18:24Speaker 2: a little tension there. I was like, oh no, is
- 18:25Speaker 2: he going to give away the recipe? Like it was
- 18:27Speaker 2: kind of stressed me out. And then I saw him
- 18:29Speaker 2: put the put the fake ingredients. I was like, Okay, Okay,
- 18:33Speaker 2: he's cool. He's cool. Yeah, it was good. I thought
- 18:36Speaker 2: it was a good season finale.
- 18:38Speaker 1: And the vowels, I have to say, the vowels are
- 18:40Speaker 1: very sweet, very touching. May really has been struggling with
- 18:46Speaker 1: you know, the men in this town leave and she's like,
- 18:49Speaker 1: that's the Mimies curse, like the men always leave. And
- 18:52Speaker 1: she last episode, if you heard Alonzo and I talk
- 18:55Speaker 1: about it, she was like, I think that's me. I
- 18:58Speaker 1: think I'm gonna be the one who runs. And so
- 19:00Speaker 1: seeing them have this great moment, I feel like she
- 19:02Speaker 1: and Jay are absolutely meant to be together. So I
- 19:05Speaker 1: thought their vows were beautiful.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I want to talk about her dress, but I think
- 19:11Speaker 2: I wait for this.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Let's talk about her dress.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that dress, the yellow like that was passed down
- 19:17Speaker 2: from her. That's her grandma, right.
- 19:20Speaker 1: That's her mom.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Oh, her mom. So that the dress like was so modern.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I was like, we're doing sleeveless in like, you know,
- 19:30Speaker 2: the seventies. That's pretty. That's a little ahead of the curve,
- 19:33Speaker 2: so very trendy.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I also wondered it looks like because Gus had held
- 19:37Speaker 1: it up earlier, and I was like, is that the
- 19:39Speaker 1: same dress? Because I was like, did they have time
- 19:41Speaker 1: to alter the sleeves? It felt like it wasn't exactly
- 19:43Speaker 1: the same dress.
- 19:44Speaker 2: It just okay, maybe they did.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Yeah, let's pretend like it's exactly the same dress.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Right, because the cut of the dress was more I mean,
- 19:52Speaker 2: it could have been eighties, I guess sure, but I'm like,
- 19:55Speaker 2: in the seventies they were not doing sleeveless. They had
- 19:58Speaker 2: those big floppy you know, they had like the silk sleeve. Yeah.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Well I thought it was a pretty dressed.
- 20:08Speaker 1: And not white. Yeah, she has you know, may Is.
- 20:11Speaker 1: She's from New York. She's very like when season one
- 20:15Speaker 1: her New York apartment is sleek and beautiful, and so
- 20:19Speaker 1: that's kind of the vibe of the original wedding. That's
- 20:22Speaker 1: kind of the vibe of her original wedding dress. I
- 20:25Speaker 1: hated and this whole transition into our wishes when Amanda
- 20:29Speaker 1: puts her hair up into that bun, I'm fine with
- 20:30Speaker 1: a bun. It was terrible. I mean it was like
- 20:33Speaker 1: something I would do. As I'm sitting here with me,
- 20:35Speaker 1: I was like, please give her a better wedding day hairstyle.
- 20:38Speaker 1: So I was thrilled when she steps out of that car,
- 20:42Speaker 1: she's in the yellow dress and her hair, I mean it.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Looks like her. Yeah, that's what you want on your
- 20:47Speaker 2: wedding day. You want to look.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Exactly, you want to look like yourself. Yeah. I was like,
- 20:51Speaker 1: that bun is tragic. Get that off of her head.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Did you have any wishes as you were watching this episode.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Well, of course I wish for more shirtless hunks in
- 21:03Speaker 2: any TV movie. We didn't get any of those, and
- 21:07Speaker 2: how we could have worked that and maybe we could
- 21:09Speaker 2: have had like the grooms room where the grooms are
- 21:12Speaker 2: getting ready, but we didn't really get like again, the
- 21:16Speaker 2: wedding was like very fast, so we had other things
- 21:19Speaker 2: to work on. I understand we could have had Frank
- 21:24Speaker 2: Junior climbing the tree with no shirt on, right, I mean, yeah.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Give us a little James Contracts action. I'll take it, right.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Just those are my things and then no otherwise, Like
- 21:37Speaker 2: I think that.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Wait what was the question and things you wished for
- 21:41Speaker 1: in this episode?
- 21:42Speaker 2: Oh right, okay, yeah, I think that's it.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I have two really big wishes.
- 21:48Speaker 2: One.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Jake Foy was a staple in the series in season one.
- 21:52Speaker 1: He does not come back as Kenneth in season two.
- 21:55Speaker 1: I had hoped that he'd come back for the wedding.
- 21:58Speaker 1: The beginning of the season, it's set up by his
- 22:01Speaker 1: husband that he's out of town because his sister just
- 22:03Speaker 1: had a baby and he'll be gone for a couple weeks,
- 22:05Speaker 1: and so in my mind, I'm like, I'm sure he's
- 22:08Speaker 1: off doing another project, but they're surely going to bring
- 22:10Speaker 1: him back for the finale. He's one of May's best
- 22:12Speaker 1: friends from their childhood.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that he wasn't there.
- 22:15Speaker 1: He was very missed. We see Patrick in the background
- 22:19Speaker 1: in some of the set up scenes, but he's not
- 22:21Speaker 1: even really highlighted in the wedding, and Kenneth doesn't make
- 22:25Speaker 1: it back. Jake four, you were missed.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if you're the best friend from childhood,
- 22:31Speaker 2: you gotta be.
- 22:31Speaker 1: There, right. And the other storyline, now, this is something
- 22:36Speaker 1: you wouldn't have picked up on in this episode. But
- 22:40Speaker 1: Frankie who's the daughter of Amanda and Frankie Junior, and Lindsay,
- 22:44Speaker 1: who is Sabrina's daughter, there has been some hinting at
- 22:48Speaker 1: some romantic tension between these two. They've never acknowledged it.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I think there are some people who don't believe that
- 22:54Speaker 1: it's there. But I am shipping these two big time.
- 22:58Speaker 1: They are moving to New York together. I do think
- 23:00Speaker 1: it's completely wild that Amanda says, text me when you
- 23:03Speaker 1: find an apartment in New York. Her child, who never
- 23:07Speaker 1: left the town of Marynac is supposed to go off
- 23:09Speaker 1: to New York as an eighteen year old and figure
- 23:11Speaker 1: out the New York apartment scene. Seems yike wild to me,
- 23:15Speaker 1: But text me when you find an apartment. But they're
- 23:17Speaker 1: gonna live together, so that sets us up for, you know,
- 23:20Speaker 1: some future storylines if we get a season three. I
- 23:24Speaker 1: would have liked a little bit of a moment that
- 23:26Speaker 1: hints at we're heading somewhere with these two. We didn't
- 23:31Speaker 1: get it. I don't know if they're moving away from it.
- 23:34Speaker 1: You know, they're playing it real safe. But I still
- 23:37Speaker 1: am shipping Lindsay and Frankie.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Okay, well, that's interesting that it was even there too.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I sider, yes, I fully believe there. I mean, I
- 23:47Speaker 1: need someone on TikTok to create a compilation of those
- 23:50Speaker 1: moments between the two of them set to some dramatic
- 23:53Speaker 1: Taylor Swift song.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Please right, and you really do find yourself in college.
- 23:58Speaker 2: That's when you're like, you know, yes, same thing, and
- 24:00Speaker 2: that's what college is for, so not just with your sexuality,
- 24:04Speaker 2: like with everything. So sure, it seems seems like a
- 24:07Speaker 2: natural progression for them to explore that. That would be fun.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Yeah, we shall see. Well it's time for any Did
- 24:17Speaker 1: you see that moments moments that made you say what
- 24:20Speaker 1: is happening here? Or something you loved hit me?
- 24:24Speaker 2: Okay, So we had a really nice wedding montage that
- 24:27Speaker 2: I liked a lot. That was really fun when they
- 24:31Speaker 2: when they were searching like the wreckage of the storm,
- 24:33Speaker 2: of the of the Chicken Hut, what is that it's
- 24:36Speaker 2: called Yeah, yeah, mabies meemies. When they did the thing
- 24:40Speaker 2: with the flowers and they handed the flower around there,
- 24:44Speaker 2: they said, like one thing they were thankful for that
- 24:47Speaker 2: was that was very nice.
- 24:49Speaker 1: That was very nice.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I like that, And and I was like, is this Thanksgiving?
- 24:54Speaker 2: Why are we Why are we doing this? But yeah,
- 24:56Speaker 2: I guess they needed to get out their feelings about
- 24:59Speaker 2: you know, growing up there and some good writing in character,
- 25:04Speaker 2: like you know, they really thought back to like these
- 25:06Speaker 2: characters like being in that growing up in that environment.
- 25:10Speaker 2: So yeah, I really felt that. And then well we
- 25:15Speaker 2: have to talk about the tree, the climbing the tree.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Tree. Can you believe they made Frank Junior after all
- 25:22Speaker 1: of that fall out of that tree? No, highly dramatic.
- 25:27Speaker 1: I mean I love it.
- 25:30Speaker 2: He put out that big ladder that was like a
- 25:32Speaker 2: fireman's ladder, wasn't it. That was huge?
- 25:36Speaker 1: Well, I was like, what are we doing trimming this tree?
- 25:38Speaker 1: Like I call somebody just and don't get on a
- 25:41Speaker 1: ladder like that by yourself, Frank Junior.
- 25:44Speaker 2: No, somebody has to hold the bottom. And you know
- 25:47Speaker 2: he had that hook saw that was like out of
- 25:49Speaker 2: a horror movie. I would never I mean I don't
- 25:53Speaker 2: even know. I've never even seen that tool before.
- 25:56Speaker 1: It was like Clark Griswolds hanging Christmas lights. I was like,
- 25:58Speaker 1: this is not going to end well as soon as
- 26:00Speaker 1: I saw that ladder.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and and like he's for sure dead right,
- 26:07Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't. I mean it seems they
- 26:11Speaker 2: left it open. They left it open, but.
- 26:13Speaker 1: They certainly left it open. And I you know, it's
- 26:16Speaker 1: funny because again I was saying, I don't want a
- 26:18Speaker 1: Frank Junior redemption story, and then after this, I was like, Okay,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I'm okay with Frank Junior being around. And just when
- 26:26Speaker 1: they made me like him, they're gonna rip him away
- 26:28Speaker 1: from us. Maybe I'm gonna need.
- 26:30Speaker 2: To see what could happen with him next.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I mean, it's true, it's true. Well, yeah, he's he's
- 26:36Speaker 1: served his purpose and that's the show. We'll see, we'll see.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean we didn't get the shot of like
- 26:44Speaker 2: the body, you know, like the the crime scene body,
- 26:48Speaker 2: so there's hope, there's hope.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Yeah, we get a call from you know, the hospital
- 26:52Speaker 1: and not the medical examiner, so I guess that's bad hurt.
- 26:57Speaker 2: True, Yeah, Oh, that's very true.
- 27:01Speaker 1: My biggest digit to that moment. Shawna, our girl Shauna
- 27:04Speaker 1: played by Caitlyn Howden, one of my absolute favorites. Speaking
- 27:07Speaker 1: of comedy, I mean, Caitlyn Howden does a bunch of improv.
- 27:10Speaker 1: She has a comedy podcast. She's a delight on this show.
- 27:14Speaker 1: When she bursts into Amy's in tears, it was great.
- 27:18Speaker 1: But my favorite is the big reveal that she's secretly
- 27:22Speaker 1: the author of the smut series Queen of the Cowboys.
- 27:24Speaker 1: They've this has been a series. It's made an appearance
- 27:27Speaker 1: throughout this season. Everyone's reading, you know, these smutty cowboy books.
- 27:32Speaker 1: And the fact that this is the spicy novel that
- 27:36Speaker 1: she has secretly published under a pen name. Shawna is
- 27:39Speaker 1: kind of a jack of all trade. She's a renaissance woman.
- 27:41Speaker 1: She's the one responsible for the Chicken Sisters franchise, and
- 27:46Speaker 1: so of course she's kind of connection that's gonna help
- 27:48Speaker 1: Amanda publish her book the way that she wants to
- 27:51Speaker 1: do it. Loved it. I thought that reveal was pitch perfect.
- 27:54Speaker 1: She's like, I'm a hit on book talk. Loved it.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Oh, and that Chicken Sister book was so cute with
- 28:01Speaker 2: the Chicken Sisters being chickens with the hair. Oh my god,
- 28:04Speaker 2: I loved it so cute.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Yeah, finally coming to fruition, we get you know, she's
- 28:10Speaker 1: had these she's I mean, that's finally getting to express herself.
- 28:13Speaker 1: This has been a long running storyline. She's had this
- 28:16Speaker 1: kind of like artistic side hustle that's never really been
- 28:19Speaker 1: a just side no hustle, and so yeah, getting to
- 28:23Speaker 1: publish that is real great. I love those little chickens.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I really would like I would buy that book.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Totally me too. I was like, it looks like a
- 28:32Speaker 1: Calvin and Hobbs, like they even like published it, and
- 28:34Speaker 1: like that's what a comic book looks like. Great. Yeah, Well,
- 28:38Speaker 1: is there a character who you really loved in this
- 28:41Speaker 1: episode who stood out to you?
- 28:44Speaker 2: So aside from the main characters, there's the guy who
- 28:47Speaker 2: comes in from the city and like it is so rude.
- 28:51Speaker 2: I I love that guy. That guy was hilarious. He
- 28:55Speaker 2: was like, very very rude though incredibly like the city,
- 28:59Speaker 2: your typical city person coming into the country.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Talking the publisher.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, yeah, the publisher. I've seen him in some
- 29:07Speaker 2: other like Lifetime movies, Like he's like a Canadian auctor,
- 29:10Speaker 2: I guess and he's always playing these type of big
- 29:14Speaker 2: jerky yeah, so I loved him coming in and just
- 29:19Speaker 2: her name is Amanda, right, the cartoonist, and she's like, actually, no,
- 29:24Speaker 2: that's a how I'm going to roll around here, like
- 29:27Speaker 2: we're not doing this book with you. So they sat
- 29:30Speaker 2: up really good. So he was really fun for me
- 29:32Speaker 2: to watch and then see her play off of him
- 29:34Speaker 2: and be like, ah, and then you see that she's like,
- 29:37Speaker 2: you know, yes, a strong woman, a business owner taking
- 29:40Speaker 2: her creative passion and turning into a business that's hard
- 29:43Speaker 2: to do so and people always want to tell you
- 29:45Speaker 2: what to do when you're a creative coming.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Height like you couldn't possibly understand creativity and business at
- 29:51Speaker 1: the same time, right, Yeah, you know that seems so
- 29:54Speaker 1: funny because his female coworker is like trying to put
- 29:57Speaker 1: the brakes on and trying to cover for him and
- 29:58Speaker 1: trying to like and just completely fails because she had
- 30:02Speaker 1: gotten the balls rolling with Amanda in a previous episode.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And then this guy comes in and just fully tanks
- 30:08Speaker 1: the deal.
- 30:09Speaker 2: Was totally kind of funny to watch, and she's.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Like, he can be a little bit groff. I was like,
- 30:14Speaker 1: you hate him, Just go ahead and say it because
- 30:16Speaker 1: he's the worst too.
- 30:18Speaker 2: That's okay, maybe you should find a new business partner
- 30:21Speaker 2: After that, I'm sure they had a talk on the
- 30:23Speaker 2: on the plane ride back and they were like, this
- 30:26Speaker 2: isn't going to work out.
- 30:28Speaker 1: I kind of like, because this show has had no
- 30:31Speaker 1: shortage of terrible men, and so I like that, right
- 30:34Speaker 1: on the heels of the Frank Junior redemption, you know,
- 30:37Speaker 1: we kind of replaced him with this guy. I appreciated
- 30:40Speaker 1: that we're not We're not done with terrible men. And
- 30:42Speaker 1: Marynac Yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Very interesting kind of pov like the show has. So
- 30:50Speaker 2: it's something you don't see often. So I think it's
- 30:52Speaker 2: really actually refreshing to see that kind of like writing
- 30:55Speaker 2: and just like the perceptive of like how men can
- 30:59Speaker 2: be just the worst when they don't even realize that
- 31:03Speaker 2: they're doing it, you know what I mean. Like the So, yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 2: it was very interesting.
- 31:08Speaker 1: This is gonna shock everyone. I mean maybe not after
- 31:10Speaker 1: listening to this episode, but my feathered friend of the
- 31:14Speaker 1: week is Frank freakin Junior. Look, I have was willing
- 31:20Speaker 1: to accept that he was going to move on at
- 31:22Speaker 1: the end of the season, but now that he may
- 31:25Speaker 1: actually be moving on, I'm really going to miss him
- 31:28Speaker 1: because I think James Cott played this episode with a
- 31:32Speaker 1: ton of warmth and believability and sincerity, and I was
- 31:37Speaker 1: very interested in seeing the ways in which he finally
- 31:40Speaker 1: stepped up. And on a side note, the only reason
- 31:44Speaker 1: I really wanted his redemption was for his daughter. And
- 31:46Speaker 1: you could see in some of those scenes where he's
- 31:49Speaker 1: connecting with his former mother in law and his mom
- 31:51Speaker 1: and his ex wife how important that is to her
- 31:55Speaker 1: or just standing in the background. So hats off to
- 31:58Speaker 1: Frank Junior.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Yeah, alrightp maybe I know, we don't know. Okay, I
- 32:06Speaker 2: have a question. Okay, what does a feather a feathered friend?
- 32:10Speaker 2: Where does that saying come from?
- 32:13Speaker 1: Just ate it up simply because about the chicken sisters?
- 32:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that is so funny as it is funny. I'm
- 32:21Speaker 2: like this saying, I've never heard this, the orgin of this.
- 32:25Speaker 2: How did this come to be?
- 32:27Speaker 1: We were just you know, chicken puns abound.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like, maybe it's a Southern thing that I'm
- 32:33Speaker 2: not aware.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Of, just a weird girl's gone Hallmark thing.
- 32:37Speaker 2: I love it. You guys are so creative and like, yes,
- 32:41Speaker 2: that is such a girl's gone Hallmark thing for sure,
- 32:45Speaker 2: we love a literation.
- 32:46Speaker 1: That's right, that's right. Having fun is allowed. Well, Patrick,
- 32:50Speaker 1: this has been so much fun. Can you tell our
- 32:52Speaker 1: listeners the best place is to find you outside of
- 32:54Speaker 1: this episode?
- 32:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so you can follow me, Patrick Miguel is
- 33:01Speaker 2: my personal social media or Lifetime on Court is if
- 33:05Speaker 2: you want to follow Lifetime things, and you should. But
- 33:10Speaker 2: you know, if you don't care about Lifetime or you
- 33:12Speaker 2: don't have time for Lifetime, I understand. I also have
- 33:14Speaker 2: a website, lifetimeoncourt dot com, where you can read my reviews,
- 33:18Speaker 2: typos and all. Sorry about that, you know. I have
- 33:22Speaker 2: Grammarly grammarly now, so that helps a little bit. But yeah,
- 33:26Speaker 2: I don't have a proof reader, so it's all just
- 33:28Speaker 2: whatever I'm writing in the moment. And I will be
- 33:30Speaker 2: doing the Christmas movies, so that's exciting. The homework and
- 33:33Speaker 2: the Lifetime. Lifetime hasn't announced any of their Christmas and
- 33:37Speaker 2: they probably won't until like December. They're they're very on
- 33:43Speaker 2: the fly. Like I had a friend of mine, Michael Divorzon.
