- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Texanville jackwars fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by jing Jack dot com and fueled by brass tax coffee right now We are talking Jacksonville jackwars training camp, and we have a day off here.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: They often the middle of the week wins day August fifth and We're gonna get back to it tomorrow and then Friday Saturday Sunday Think one of those Saturday.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think is kind of like a light
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: kind of walk through a type of day, I think they're trying to get ready for preparing for games and preparing for the season, like next week, they go and have a preseason game joined practice as well.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: So all that is what's upcoming, but right now we're taking a look at the biggest surprises of camp so far for me.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these are like the way players are playing, some of these are just storylines and so I'm very excited.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: to talk some jacks football here today even on the day off and got our mind y'all.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: another very exciting development.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Second straight week of Club Jaguar, be on my channel, be on UCF Jaguar's channel.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: Myself, UCF Jaguar, okay, Dalton, Jason from Jaguar's United, chopping it up for an hour about Jaguar's training camp and everything upcoming this 20, 26 seasons.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: So that'll be a lot of fun tonight, eight, 30, PM, and right now.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: biggest surprise is how about I will I did not expect to be sitting here on Wednesday August 5th a week after training camp started and talking about Anton Harrison being potentially the Jaguar starting left tackle.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not mad about it.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: I said, you know, I would probably not upset the apple card of Colvin Lannon was back and ready to go for a week one.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'd probably just kind of go with what I had last year because it worked really well when those two guys were out there at their respective positions.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: But I also said,
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: I have no problem with the Jack Wars coaching staff making a decision, and if their decision is that Anton Harrison is the best guy to protect Trevor Lawrence's blind side, I'm good with that.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: And the biggest takeaway for me is if Colman Lannan is ready to go for the start of the regular season, which I think he will be Liam Cohen, thinks he will be
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars have a very underrated offensive line and a very underrated tackle duo in general.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think both of those guys are very good.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they combine to be one of the best all-around tackle duo's and football.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then you talk about, as your Cleveland is a really good player, you have competition at right guard and then Robert Hainesy steps in as a leader and a decent player.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: So...
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think the offense of lines in a good spot.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think it all hinges on Colvian land and being healthy and playing left tackle or right tackle.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: But if he's healthy the way I expect him to be to start the season, you're going to be in a good spot.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: So, Antoine Harrison, though, potentially being the starting left tackle, did not have that on my bingo card.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: I know a lot of people.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: have been talking about it for years, but it just hasn't been something I was expecting to happen in terms of a permanent move.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't have been surprised if they were saying, oh, he might fill in during Colving Liman's absence, but I didn't expect it to be a permanent move.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: So that's been a big surprise.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: Big surprise for me is Jarian Jones, and not that I didn't expect him to play well, expecting him to play good.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's been the most dominant and impactful player in Jaguar's training camp so far.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: He seems like he's like a magnet for the football, but every time quarterback's target his way, he's either getting a pass break up, forcing an incompletion or picking the pass off.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, Jarian Jones has been incredible.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just awesome to see him perform that way.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: Always been a player I really liked.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: I love him coming out of Florida State, the speed with which he played, the aggressiveness,
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: and you've just seen the development every year, every off season.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: And now in the same system for the first time, I think Jarian is just feeling really comfortable.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Jordan Lewis the other day said, you know, this guy could be one of the best corners in football.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I don't know if I'm quite there, but the way he's played the last week or so, yeah, he has definitely been in that range.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just cool for the Jaguars to have all those options at corner between Travis Hunter and Buster Brown and Jordan Lewis and Jarring Jones.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: And then obviously, Dibarman Muhammadi Young kid kind of stepping up and playing really good football.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll break up the monotony of really good stuff with.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: Something that hasn't been a good surprise.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a little bit of a negative surprise I don't think it's that big of a deal, but it's been a little bit of a surprise in a negative way But I did say just just now jargon Jones has been probably the most impactful and dominant player.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: I want to make the You know make it very clear If Josh Heinz Allen and if Trayvon Walker were allowed to actually get after the quarterback
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: They would be in that conversation too.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: They have been awesome.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: And against good players, right?
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: But, yeah, Josh Hind's Allen and Trable Walker, heck of a duo.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: Up next though for me is, you know, Jacobie Myers is like seemingly focused issues, easy drops, not catching in, this is some contestic catches you would normally expect him to haul in, not bringing those in and just not being as consistent that studying force that you expect him to be like, I expect Parker Washington and Brian Thomas Jr. to be really explosive factors for the Jack Wars offense, but you know, maybe have a little bit more
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: It might be a lot more volatility with BTJ, a little more volatility with Jacobi, I mean with Parker Washington, and then the super consistent, reliable, just move the chains, move the sticks, keep yourself on schedule, play or Jacobi Myers has actually been the one that struggled with focus more than the other two.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: which is very surprising, do I think that that's necessarily an indicator of things to come, a sign that he's not going to be as comfortable or consistent, and this offense, not necessarily, I don't.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think he can still be a steadying force for the Jaguar's offense moving forward, but it's something I'm noticing.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's been
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: three of the however many practices, three or four of them that he hasn't made plays, you would expect him to make.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: Just, just, that's surprising.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: And it's something I'm, you know, keeping an eye on.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: I've all the faith in the world in Jacobi to pull it together and be the player he was last year and he has been most of his career, but it's been a little surprising for sure.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: getting into the back end of the positive.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: And these are a couple like lesser known players.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: Zack Derfey.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is a guy, he was called like the ex-factor draft pick by ESPN from the whole class.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: And he had like a little spotlight on him and stuff.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I say the whole class, I mean the entire NFL draft.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: But he's explosive.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's making plays in the back field.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't have him on my 53-man roster.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: And the way things are shaping up, I don't know how the jacks are going to make a decision at edge, because you obviously have Josh Hines Island and Trayvon Walker.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: You obviously have Wesley Williams.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's a fourth round pick this year that you traded up for.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: You're not keeping him on the 53.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: So like those are the 100% led by blocks.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then Danny Striggow feels like a lock too.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: So that's four.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: Is it gonna be between BJ Green and Zach Duffy to make the roster?
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: Is it possible that Danny Striggow doesn't make the roster?
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Is it possible that all of those guys make the roster?
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but Zach Duffy, he's playing hard.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: I know the coaching staff in the front office really likes him.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: He was kind of a player that they caught on too late.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: And they just kind of fell in love with his, and he tested really, really well.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's a big time athlete, he had a really good final season out Washington, creating pressure and being disruptive.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's carried that over to the Jaguar so far.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a, that's an encouraging development, like to see the competition going on behind Josh Hines Allen and Tribal Walker at Edge for sure.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then, Branson Combs, this is a player kind of like Jarian, similar with different, right?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: I know Jarian's a good player, right?
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Branson Combs was a good player based on how he performed last year and how the Jaguar has talked about him.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: When I say last year, I mean during training camp.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: Given more opportunity this year, against starters, with the twos.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's in a competition with ventral Miller.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that Holmes is losing the comp, honestly.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: It is neck and neck.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they're gonna let this thing play out for a while.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: But his instincts in coverage have been pretty darn good and they've been improving.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think there was a day early on where there was a couple plays he almost made.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: Ever since that day, he's made the place consistently.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: And he seems like somebody who can tackle, who can fly a sideline to sideline, who can blitz, and can maybe give you a little bit more range and versatility and coverage than Ventral Miller can't.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like I've talked about, I think Ventral Miller can do a very good job as a zone dropper.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: can brands and combs do more for you to make you more versatile and less predictable as a coverage player if so he could find himself on the field more and I've been just so impressed with him so overall there hasn't been any support like you know people talk about how the offense had a horrible day yesterday and they did people talk about how the defense
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: about day that day before that and I think they did.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: But look, this is a really talented offense coached by a great coaching staff.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: A really talented defense coached by a great coaching staff.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to trade punches.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: They're practicing almost every single day.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: Different squads are going to, you know, kind of have lack of foot like
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: They're practice and hard, so it's not a big surprise to me that there's some volatility with performance, practice to practice when you're playing against the Jaguar's defense, when you're playing against the Jaguar's offense.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: These are really good units, keep that in mind.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, those are my big surprises so far.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's on here, it's in a left tackle.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: Little inconsistency from Jacobi Myers.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: Jarian Jones, looking like the best player on the team.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Zactor, if you look in like, how do you cut this guy?
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: Branson Kolm's starter, we'll see.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate you all tuning in.
