Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's up, Everybody? This is
- 0:25Speaker 1: Peter Schreger. This is the Season with Peter Schrager. I'm
- 0:28Speaker 1: joined by Aaron wang Kaufman, my wonderful Palin producer.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Here.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I'm currently eighty five percent. If you saw Good Morning
- 0:38Speaker 1: Football on Monday, you saw me at thirty percent. I
- 0:42Speaker 1: got stuck with a disgusting bout of food poisoning. I
- 0:45Speaker 1: don't need to go into the details, just brutal Sunday night,
- 0:49Speaker 1: and then Monday morning, did Good Morning Football, then flew
- 0:52Speaker 1: across the country while battling demons, demons, brother demons Erin Tuesday,
- 0:59Speaker 1: don't remember anything, all a blur, and then Wednesday morning,
- 1:03Speaker 1: I'm feeling better. But we are now recording this on
- 1:05Speaker 1: a Wednesday, and I have not eating a thing since Sunday,
- 1:08Speaker 1: which is pretty impressive and a good way to kickstart
- 1:11Speaker 1: a diet. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing the results. I look
- 1:14Speaker 1: at my reflection on this video over filming, but I
- 1:16Speaker 1: feel like maybe i'll put on some pants later and
- 1:18Speaker 1: I'm down to size and that I'll kickstart, which should
- 1:21Speaker 1: be an interesting journey back to my playing weight. I
- 1:24Speaker 1: say all that because we don't have a guest this week.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I didn't even think to reach out. But we're not
- 1:30Speaker 1: going to not do a podcast. So Aaron, are we cool?
- 1:32Speaker 1: Just the two of us riffing for a little bit
- 1:33Speaker 1: and given the listeners, the old school Aaron and Peter
- 1:36Speaker 1: go back and forth show or what.
- 1:38Speaker 2: That sounds great? We got, we got some Broadway lined up,
- 1:41Speaker 2: we got I'm here like we talk Broadway.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I'm like, I slow down, slow down. My little monologue
- 1:50Speaker 1: is going to be about something that could be outdated
- 1:53Speaker 1: by one o'clock today as we record this at twelve
- 1:57Speaker 1: forty five. And that's why I'm a little hesitant to
- 1:59Speaker 1: go down a deep dive on it. A that it
- 2:02Speaker 1: might be news already by the time this publishers and
- 2:04Speaker 1: if so, fine, and that every minute that slips away
- 2:09Speaker 1: means it's less and less likely to happen. This whole
- 2:12Speaker 1: Bill Belichick North Carolina thing is fascinating to me. I
- 2:17Speaker 1: think it's very real. I think it's very unorthodox. I
- 2:21Speaker 1: don't think necessarily is something that either side was seriously
- 2:27Speaker 1: entertaining until it happened pretty quickly that he met with them,
- 2:31Speaker 1: then met with them again. And I know this isn't
- 2:34Speaker 1: as flattering to Belichick as maybe we'd like to make
- 2:38Speaker 1: it be. I don't know if there's an NFL job
- 2:41Speaker 1: that's going to be available, and I know that's not
- 2:43Speaker 1: what anyone wants to hear. It's not the sexy headline,
- 2:45Speaker 1: it's not the North Carolina's recruiting him like to know
- 2:49Speaker 1: end that this is him pushing them away and giving
- 2:52Speaker 1: them the heisman. I don't know there's three available jobs
- 2:56Speaker 1: right now that we know of. It's the Jets, the Bears,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and the Saints, or at least we don't think they're
- 3:00Speaker 1: hiring those interim coaches. None of those organizations, though they
- 3:04Speaker 1: have the ability to pick his brain, talk to him
- 3:07Speaker 1: and have a casual sit down, has done any sort
- 3:09Speaker 1: of effort to go and meet with the man. You
- 3:12Speaker 1: go down the list, everyone assumes like Jacksonville is gonna
- 3:15Speaker 1: be handing over everything to him. Well, Trent Balkey just
- 3:18Speaker 1: signed a major deal with Walker Little, an offensive lineman,
- 3:23Speaker 1: giving him real money. And I don't know if owners
- 3:25Speaker 1: usually let the GM sign a player to a major
- 3:28Speaker 1: extension in week thirteen. If the GM isn't at least
- 3:33Speaker 1: considered to be coming back. Go down the list of
- 3:37Speaker 1: teams Dallas. At one point it sounded like a great marriage.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Belichick comes in, Jerry can finally watch as a coach
- 3:47Speaker 1: brings his team back to relevance, and maybe Belichick breaks
- 3:50Speaker 1: Sholo's record and does it for the Cowboy. The more
- 3:52Speaker 1: and more you hear out of Dallas, I'm not so
- 3:55Speaker 1: certain Mike McCarthy isn't back next year. And if Mike
- 3:58Speaker 1: McCarthy isn't the guy, is Bill Belichick. The guy's eighty
- 4:01Speaker 1: two year old Jerry Jones hiring seventy three year old
- 4:04Speaker 1: Bill Belichick to bring his whole cast characters in. I
- 4:08Speaker 1: don't know Tampa. I don't think they're firing Todd Bowles. Miami.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I don't think they're firing Mike McDaniel. Go down the
- 4:17Speaker 1: list of teams. Arizona's keeping Jonathan Gannon, Indianapolis isn't firing
- 4:24Speaker 1: Shane Stike And where is the home? The irony is
- 4:28Speaker 1: team that could use a new coach perhaps and bringing
- 4:32Speaker 1: a whole bunch of new guys is maybe his old
- 4:35Speaker 1: team New England. But we're not going down that road again.
- 4:37Speaker 1: And I don't think they're getting rid of Gerrodmeyo either.
- 4:42Speaker 1: If there is no NFL job in hand, and Belichick
- 4:47Speaker 1: did this year sabbatical away working for eleven different media
- 4:51Speaker 1: companies and showing his personality on the Manning Cast and
- 4:58Speaker 1: coming off quite likable with Pat McAfee and crushing the draft,
- 5:02Speaker 1: which I thought was his best moment. I thought he
- 5:04Speaker 1: was amazing on the draft with McAfee. And you know,
- 5:09Speaker 1: joining Instagram, he's got the younger girlfriend that everyone jokes about.
- 5:13Speaker 1: But whatever you want to say or not, like, he's
- 5:15Speaker 1: obviously opening up a little bit more. He's on social media.
- 5:18Speaker 1: He's trying to do things with a smile publicly, which
- 5:21Speaker 1: was not always his media presence. If the NFL's not
- 5:26Speaker 1: there and he's looking at his legacy and it's I
- 5:29Speaker 1: still want to coach, the North Carolina job is pretty
- 5:32Speaker 1: darn good. He'll come in. He'll be able to bring
- 5:34Speaker 1: in his people, whether that's including Josh McDaniels or Matt
- 5:39Speaker 1: Patricia or even his son Steven who's a defensive coordinator
- 5:42Speaker 1: at Washington right now. Mick Lombardi he can bring. He
- 5:46Speaker 1: can bring in Mike Lombard, he can bring in all
- 5:47Speaker 1: his guys. They can build up an NFL style program
- 5:52Speaker 1: in the ACC at a really good academic institution, a
- 5:56Speaker 1: place where his father once coached, and do so with
- 6:00Speaker 1: an ability to come in and say look at the rings, obviously,
- 6:03Speaker 1: look at the parents, and say, hey, look what you're kidding.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Going to get is an a plus education at one
- 6:08Speaker 1: of the best finest academic institutions, but also a whole
- 6:12Speaker 1: added bonus of a way to live your life and
- 6:14Speaker 1: a way to manage yourself on a schedule. And I'm
- 6:18Speaker 1: going to take an NFL style approach to these kids
- 6:20Speaker 1: and treat them like professionals, but do so in an
- 6:23Speaker 1: undergraduate setting. I think there's a lot worse places to
- 6:27Speaker 1: do it than North Carolina. I also think if you're
- 6:31Speaker 1: looking at that clock and it's okay, you don't have
- 6:35Speaker 1: Tony and Shad Khan reaching out to you behind the
- 6:39Speaker 1: scenes and saying, hey this just hang tight there, like
- 6:41Speaker 1: let us get let Doug get through this year, let
- 6:44Speaker 1: turn Balki get through this year. Then we're going to
- 6:46Speaker 1: hand it over to you. And if you don't have,
- 6:48Speaker 1: you know, an organization like the Bears, who are two
- 6:51Speaker 1: weeks removed from firing their head coach reaching out to
- 6:53Speaker 1: you to at least have a coffee, and you want
- 6:55Speaker 1: to coach, and that's what you're doing, and that's what
- 6:58Speaker 1: you want to do, and that's your livelihood. Like I
- 7:01Speaker 1: don't know, North Carolina might be the place. And then
- 7:04Speaker 1: the question is there's North Carolina want that. I think
- 7:07Speaker 1: they should. I think it's a swing at the bat.
- 7:09Speaker 1: And then perhaps he says, all right, and at some
- 7:12Speaker 1: point we handed over to Josh McDaniels or my son Steven,
- 7:15Speaker 1: and they run it from that point and you're getting
- 7:17Speaker 1: a smooth transition. If I'm not coaching for ten years,
- 7:20Speaker 1: but say I'm doing it for three, four or five.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Bruce Feldman is someone I really respect. Bruce Feldman writes
- 7:25Speaker 1: college football articles for The Athletic. He's also the main
- 7:28Speaker 1: college football insider on Fox. He brought up a really
- 7:31Speaker 1: interesting point in The Athletic a couple of days ago
- 7:34Speaker 1: that has been glossed over with all of our NFL.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You know, we bow to the and we kissed the
- 7:40Speaker 1: rings and the whole thing. Bill Walsh retired, did TV.
- 7:45Speaker 1: George Seaffert took over the Niners. Bill Walsh came back
- 7:49Speaker 1: and did three unremarkable seasons at Stanford in three years
- 7:56Speaker 1: that were not anything that anyone talks about, that are
- 7:59Speaker 1: not a part of his legacy that no one even
- 8:02Speaker 1: mentions his second goal around there. And I mean I
- 8:05Speaker 1: think John Lynch played for Bill Walsh, if I'm not mistaken,
- 8:08Speaker 1: And so that was late eighties he came back early nineties.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Got to double check that one, but I believe it
- 8:15Speaker 1: was in that era of like post Lway obviously, but
- 8:20Speaker 1: late eighties early nineties Stanford and Bill Walsh came back
- 8:23Speaker 1: and it was like a and Bill Walsh was significantly
- 8:25Speaker 1: younger than what Belichick is now. Say all this to
- 8:29Speaker 1: say that I wouldn't be shocked if we get the
- 8:31Speaker 1: story that Bill Belichick is the head coach at North Carolina,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and I would embrace it. I would look forward to it.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It's a new approach to it. It's not Mac Brown
- 8:38Speaker 1: coming back to a college program. It's Bill Belichick coming
- 8:41Speaker 1: with a vengeance to show what he's still got and
- 8:44Speaker 1: to show that he could take on this nil and
- 8:47Speaker 1: recruiting thing like no one elver has before. I mean
- 8:49Speaker 1: the fact that Saban's retired and is younger than Belichick
- 8:52Speaker 1: and has already walked away as probably the greatest college
- 8:54Speaker 1: coach since Bear Bryant's interesting as now Belichick is going
- 8:59Speaker 1: to dip his toes into those waters. It was almost
- 9:01Speaker 1: like it was church and State. Belichick's the NFL guy,
- 9:03Speaker 1: Saban's the college guy. They get along, great, beautiful friendship.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Belichick's going back to college. It excites me. It excites
- 9:11Speaker 1: me more than hearing Belichick is going to the Jacksonville
- 9:13Speaker 1: Jaguars again. We'll wait and see, but that is my
- 9:18Speaker 1: initial thoughts. And I would add two cents from two
- 9:22Speaker 1: guys I've really grown to really enjoy, and that's Julian
- 9:26Speaker 1: Edelman and Robert Gronkowski. I was with them this past
- 9:29Speaker 1: weekend at Fox, and it's just green room chatter, and
- 9:32Speaker 1: this is where the best stuff comes out. And I
- 9:34Speaker 1: didn't have any of this conversation with Brady, so I
- 9:37Speaker 1: can't even weigh in with his thoughts, but I'm sure
- 9:38Speaker 1: it's in line with these two. They both were like,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I can't imagine I can't imagine Belichick sitting down and
- 9:46Speaker 1: like begging a kid and then offering him money to
- 9:48Speaker 1: play college football, and then you know, the second the
- 9:51Speaker 1: season's over, the kid declaring to the transfer portal. I'm
- 9:54Speaker 1: like that's just the thought of Belichick groveling or even
- 9:57Speaker 1: having to like barter for this thing is beyond their belief.
- 10:01Speaker 1: But they all said the same thing, like they're amazing
- 10:03Speaker 1: better people because of their time with Bill, and if
- 10:06Speaker 1: you could instill that into a college kid, that kid's
- 10:09Speaker 1: going to be very you know, well off for the
- 10:11Speaker 1: rest of his life. Aaron, You're not as connected as
- 10:23Speaker 1: I am necessarily as far as these conversations go. But
- 10:26Speaker 1: you follow the NFL Belichick college coach. What was your
- 10:31Speaker 1: reaction when you heard that news that he interviewed with
- 10:33Speaker 1: you and c I had.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I had two initial thoughts. The first one is I
- 10:39Speaker 2: kind of love it, Like I love the idea that
- 10:42Speaker 2: here's someone who has put together some of the greatest
- 10:46Speaker 2: coaching that you know, especially my generation has ever seen.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And the thought that hey, he's just gonna go conquer
- 10:53Speaker 2: something else. Maybe like maybe his time has been his,
- 10:57Speaker 2: the NFL has passed him by, but he could still
- 10:59Speaker 2: do really well, and I think he would.
- 11:00Speaker 1: He would he would like jump through the screen and
- 11:03Speaker 1: be like, that's not the case. Let me get that
- 11:05Speaker 1: NFL bite at the Apple I had not passed me by.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I just don't know if a team is willing to
- 11:09Speaker 1: hand him that opportunity. So if that's the case, is
- 11:12Speaker 1: he jump into It's almost like before you break up
- 11:15Speaker 1: with me, I'm going to break up with you, NFL.
- 11:17Speaker 1: That's how I see it.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Well, I mean, the other thing I thought is, after
- 11:22Speaker 2: this this year of being smiley and fun and posing
- 11:27Speaker 2: with his girlfriend on Instagram pictures in Halloween costumes, does
- 11:30Speaker 2: he want something that's maybe a little less cutthroat?
- 11:34Speaker 1: Okay?
- 11:35Speaker 2: Does he want to go in and be more like
- 11:40Speaker 2: helping to develop these kids, right father figure, as opposed
- 11:45Speaker 2: to maybe like the really difficult, you know, strict coach
- 11:51Speaker 2: that we know of from you.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I think talking to these college guys, they're so burned
- 11:56Speaker 1: out of the college game, a lot of them. Jeff Halfley,
- 11:59Speaker 1: I couldn't speak on being his behalf, but he was
- 12:00Speaker 1: the coach at PC. He chose to be a defensive
- 12:02Speaker 1: coordinator at the Packers over being a head coach at
- 12:06Speaker 1: Bustin College. Chip Kelly was the head coach at UCLA.
- 12:09Speaker 1: He says, this the thing for me, the offensive coordinator.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I think being a head coach in the college.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Game is a young man's game, dude.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It is recruiting, hustling, reading these websites, reading the blogs,
- 12:22Speaker 1: spending other people's money. It's it's almost a I it's
- 12:28Speaker 1: almost an easy I don't know. Maybe it's not his cutthroat.
- 12:31Speaker 1: You can go six and six at in Chapel Hill
- 12:34Speaker 1: and not feel the heat. But like it's no less work.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I'll tell you that.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Does it preserve his legacy better? If he were to
- 12:42Speaker 2: come back to the NFL, like you were saying and
- 12:44Speaker 2: have three disappointing seasons, that hurts him. But if he
- 12:47Speaker 2: goes to UNC and has you know, three five win seasons,
- 12:53Speaker 2: it doesn't. It's not going to be in the record
- 12:55Speaker 2: books the same way. No.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I look at it, and I wonder he okay. So
- 13:02Speaker 1: Mike Lombardi in many ways speaks on his own opinions,
- 13:07Speaker 1: but also speaks based on conversations with Belichick. And Lombardi
- 13:10Speaker 1: was on his website or his podcast and I saw
- 13:15Speaker 1: the clip. I watched it online and he said that
- 13:18Speaker 1: the this was from Friday. He might decided to Chris
- 13:20Speaker 1: Russo actually that the Shula record, the win total record,
- 13:25Speaker 1: which he is in arms distance of, probably needs one
- 13:28Speaker 1: good year and maybe half of another good year. That
- 13:33Speaker 1: shula wins record is not at all on Belichick's like
- 13:39Speaker 1: must have lists. It's not what keeps him up at night.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And if anyone thinks that they don't know Bill, well,
- 13:43Speaker 1: if that's the case and he just wants to coach,
- 13:45Speaker 1: there might be nothing more pure than developing college players
- 13:48Speaker 1: into NFL talent and creating that pipeline. Cause I tell
- 13:52Speaker 1: you this, NFL teams are gonna want to take a
- 13:54Speaker 1: risk on a kid who was coached by Belichick over
- 13:56Speaker 1: a kid who is coached by some other coach who
- 13:59Speaker 1: they don't know or necessarily have the respector kind of
- 14:02Speaker 1: you know, the honor, has that honor to them.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I mean he is close.
- 14:09Speaker 1: How close?
- 14:11Speaker 2: Shula has three twenty eight wins? Bill has three hundred
- 14:14Speaker 2: and two, So he would need at least two seasons.
- 14:17Speaker 1: That would I say a season and a half? Yeah, okay,
- 14:19Speaker 1: so kind of needs two to three seasons in the NFL.
- 14:21Speaker 1: That's a that puts him at seventy six years old.
- 14:25Speaker 1: If he gets the right team, if he gets the
- 14:27Speaker 1: right wins and it all.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Works out, Andy's right behind him with two seventy and.
- 14:32Speaker 1: He's coming and Andy is stepping away anytime either.
- 14:35Speaker 2: And then the next closest current is Tomlin with one
- 14:38Speaker 2: to eighty three. So he he He's in the top five.
- 14:43Speaker 1: No one's questioning it. I think he's the greatest coach
- 14:45Speaker 1: of all time. It's him, Lombardi, Hallis Shula, maybe Andy
- 14:50Speaker 1: Reid sneaking into that conversation too. The rings tell the story.
- 14:54Speaker 1: If it's a legacy question, that's absurd. Your legacy's firm.
- 14:59Speaker 1: The question is does he have that chip on his
- 15:02Speaker 1: shoulder that the I need another bite at the NFL.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I wasn't ready to end it. I didn't end it
- 15:06Speaker 1: on my terms. I mean mutually parted ways in New England.
- 15:09Speaker 1: You know, he interviewed in Atlanta, and I think the
- 15:11Speaker 1: assumption was he'd have a list of teams that are
- 15:14Speaker 1: lining up for him. I don't know if I see that,
- 15:16Speaker 1: And I've said that Bill Simmons a couple weeks ago,
- 15:18Speaker 1: and it was like it was it was aggregated. It
- 15:20Speaker 1: was like some shocking statement. But there's three teams that
- 15:24Speaker 1: could currently talk to him, and from what I gathered,
- 15:26Speaker 1: none of them have sat even headed coffee with him.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Wow. I mean not what you expected five years ago,
- 15:34Speaker 2: for sure, not what you even expected when he was
- 15:38Speaker 2: taking this year off, I think everyone expected him to
- 15:41Speaker 2: like do TV and go out of his mind because
- 15:45Speaker 2: he missed it so much. So I don't know, it
- 15:48Speaker 2: is wild to think of him not doing the NFL.
- 15:52Speaker 2: But he was also someone who, like I mean, there
- 15:55Speaker 2: are stories of him watching college games in high school
- 15:57Speaker 2: games and coming up with ideas. So he's already probably
- 16:00Speaker 2: locked into UNC's playbook. I mean, he had like a
- 16:04Speaker 2: two hundred page document he gave them.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Well, he also spent the year, I'm told at NFL films,
- 16:12Speaker 1: and I don't know if I'm on leaking unleashing secret
- 16:14Speaker 1: Like he's got all the all twenty two, Like he
- 16:16Speaker 1: breaks down every single game. But he also does college
- 16:18Speaker 1: so like if there was a draft tomorrow, he's ready
- 16:21Speaker 1: to go. He knows all the college players and talks
- 16:23Speaker 1: to all the college coaches, And Mike Florio posted it
- 16:26Speaker 1: today like all these college coaches let him into the
- 16:29Speaker 1: building and observe practice and have his way around the facilities.
- 16:33Speaker 1: They didn't think he was going to be their competitor
- 16:35Speaker 1: next year, but maybe he will, so we'll see. This
- 16:38Speaker 1: could be outdated. If it is, we still like to
- 16:40Speaker 1: listen to us about and around. We'd like to hear
- 16:42Speaker 1: your thoughts. Tweet me at p schregs at psc ch RGS.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I want to hear your thoughts on Belichick. The other
- 16:49Speaker 1: thing that I'd like to bring up that I think
- 16:52Speaker 1: is actually really interesting is the NFL announcing some minority
- 16:59Speaker 1: ownership for the Buffalo Bills. And I don't know if
- 17:01Speaker 1: you saw this. Who's now a minority owner of the Bills?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Three names and I thought were really cool.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Do you see this? Aaron ten new limited partners to ownership.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Okay, read them out loud. If you got the press
- 17:12Speaker 1: release up read read them out loud, and save the
- 17:15Speaker 1: big three for the end.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Okay, so let's see for the listeners. I don't have
- 17:24Speaker 1: the list in front of me. Read the boring ones first.
- 17:26Speaker 1: We're probably just finance private equity people who whatever, this
- 17:29Speaker 1: is cool for them to go to their rich person
- 17:30Speaker 1: party and say that they own a team. Who do
- 17:32Speaker 1: we got? So?
- 17:32Speaker 2: I think there are two big ones, but Arctos some.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Actos's private equity.
- 17:37Speaker 2: So great, good Rob Palombo Okay, don't know mc collum.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Don't know her, Teresa Gao, don't know her, Lovely, don't
- 17:43Speaker 1: know her rob Ward love him, don't know him, Mike
- 17:46Speaker 1: ju don't know Jew love him, Tom Berger great dude,
- 17:49Speaker 1: don't know him.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Josie Altador Okay, do you know.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Who Josie Outdoor is?
- 17:53Speaker 2: I don't.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Okay, Josie Outsdour is one of the greatest US soccer
- 17:56Speaker 1: players of all time. Josie Aldador is now a minority
- 18:00Speaker 1: owner of the Buffalo Bills. Let's keep going. Who else
- 18:03Speaker 1: is the minority owner of the Buffalo Bills.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna between these last two, I'm gonna go with
- 18:08Speaker 2: the one that I'm gonna say. Number one is who
- 18:11Speaker 2: meant the most to me as a child, Okay, So
- 18:13Speaker 2: start with number two? Is Vince Carter.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Vince Carter Vin Sanity is now a minority owner of
- 18:19Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills. I love this. And who is the
- 18:22Speaker 1: last minority owner of the Buffalo Bills? Announced today at
- 18:25Speaker 1: the league meetings?
- 18:26Speaker 2: Tracy McGrady T mac.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Is an owner of the Bills. What I mean this
- 18:31Speaker 1: goes back that to Toronto connection, I suppose, But like,
- 18:35Speaker 1: if you really want to do a deep dive, neither
- 18:36Speaker 1: one of those guys Toronto careers ended well. Vince cried
- 18:38Speaker 1: his way out, got traded, went to the Nets and
- 18:41Speaker 1: then uh, if you remember t Mac had the biggest
- 18:43Speaker 1: free agency ever, went to Orlando. But okay, whatever they were,
- 18:45Speaker 1: they brought basketball to Canada and they are beloved. And
- 18:49Speaker 1: of course Vince had his jersey retired in Toronto, and
- 18:52Speaker 1: I think this is amazing. And Josie Aldador is a
- 18:55Speaker 1: US soccer player, Like, all right, so what does that
- 18:57Speaker 1: all mean? I could have on a sports business expert.
- 19:00Speaker 1: What's interesting is the NFL's opening up the pie a
- 19:02Speaker 1: little bit and they allowed in six different private equity group.
- 19:07Speaker 1: So all those names you heard in the beginning, and
- 19:09Speaker 1: I was being dismissive, I'm sure that those are very fine,
- 19:12Speaker 1: accomplished people. Some of them could be amazing humanitarians. I
- 19:16Speaker 1: don't know their names. I don't know the full details
- 19:18Speaker 1: on any of the first few names. That comes in
- 19:22Speaker 1: the ability for the NFL. They're now letting people have
- 19:26Speaker 1: minority shares in a different way than it used to be.
- 19:28Speaker 1: And also that private equity, I believe can have up
- 19:30Speaker 1: to ten percent of a team. So it's just infused cash.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And you're saying, well, why would these these people want
- 19:37Speaker 1: to get in here? Why would they want to be.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I really do think it's a vanity play for a
- 19:40Speaker 1: lot of these folks. They're not majority owners. And if
- 19:44Speaker 1: the team ever was to be sold, which I find
- 19:47Speaker 1: it highly unlikely that any of these teams are going
- 19:49Speaker 1: to be just outright sold to a majority partner, they
- 19:52Speaker 1: would then of course see a windfall of cash. But
- 19:54Speaker 1: in the short term, their owners, they get to live
- 19:56Speaker 1: in the owner's suite, they get to go to their
- 19:58Speaker 1: dinners and say their owners, they're at the league meetings,
- 20:00Speaker 1: and it's all well and good. It's a minority share,
- 20:04Speaker 1: and is it you know? Look, I remember when jay
- 20:06Speaker 1: Z was an owner of the Nets and like pro
- 20:09Speaker 1: Grove was, and I think someone told me, like Jayzon
- 20:11Speaker 1: actually owns point zero one percent. But at the time,
- 20:15Speaker 1: before all the latest stuff, jay Z was an aim
- 20:17Speaker 1: and it was like this, this is a big deal.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Like jay Z is going to be courtside of the Nets.
- 20:21Speaker 1: It's a major. I think it's cool that Lewis Hamilton
- 20:25Speaker 1: is a minority owner of the Denver Broncos. I think
- 20:28Speaker 1: it is pretty damn cool. When Serena and Mark Anthony
- 20:31Speaker 1: were involved with the Dolphins when that happened, and now
- 20:35Speaker 1: t mac in visanity can say they own NFL teams.
- 20:38Speaker 1: It's legit. Tom Brady owns an NFL team, now, Richard
- 20:42Speaker 1: Seymour owns an NFL team. Now. I don't know. I
- 20:45Speaker 1: just think of this vision of NFL owner and there's
- 20:48Speaker 1: thirty two of them, and they're in suits and ties
- 20:50Speaker 1: and they sit in a boardroom. It's kind of opening
- 20:52Speaker 1: up a bit, and I think that's pretty cool for
- 20:53Speaker 1: the NFL.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Man Belich actually have just become a part owner of
- 20:57Speaker 2: a team.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Got to find a team, bro Yeah, yeah, it's got
- 21:00Speaker 1: to find a team. These teams got a want the man.
- 21:02Speaker 2: That's it.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Big week of NFL up ahead, Eagles versus Steelers, Lions
- 21:11Speaker 1: versus Bills. I think Seahawks versus Packers is very interesting.
- 21:16Speaker 1: But my sneaky game of the week, Aaron, Are you
- 21:19Speaker 1: ready for the sneaky game.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Of the week.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Keep an eye on Colts Broncos. Colts come into this
- 21:26Speaker 1: season as a six and seven squad. Entering Week fifteen,
- 21:32Speaker 1: the Broncos are eight and five. A win for the
- 21:37Speaker 1: Colts makes them seven and seven. A win for the
- 21:40Speaker 1: a loss for the Broncos makes them eight and six.
- 21:43Speaker 1: That would give the tiebreaker to Indianapolis. If you don't mind,
- 21:46Speaker 1: if you have Google up, read me the final three
- 21:51Speaker 1: opponents for Indianapolis after this week, and then read me
- 21:55Speaker 1: the final three opponents for Denver. And I'm going to
- 21:58Speaker 1: set up why this game is so damn important in
- 22:00Speaker 1: the AFC.
- 22:02Speaker 2: So this week Colts Broncos, and then the Colts are
- 22:05Speaker 2: playing the Titans, the Giants, and the Jaguars.
- 22:09Speaker 1: That's win, win, win if you're the Colts, right.
- 22:11Speaker 2: The Broncos have the Colts, and then the Chargers, the
- 22:15Speaker 2: Bengals and Kansas City.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Okay, I'm just saying, don't overlook this game right now.
- 22:22Speaker 1: The Broncos have a nice two game lead in the
- 22:24Speaker 1: wild Card. But if you lose, it's almost like two losses, folks.
- 22:28Speaker 1: They not only lose a game in the standings, but
- 22:31Speaker 1: they also lose the head to head. Head to head
- 22:33Speaker 1: is a tie breaker. The Indianapolis Coasts have the easiest
- 22:35Speaker 1: final three games of any team in the NFL. Denver
- 22:39Speaker 1: Broncos have three complicated games. I would argue at Chargers
- 22:43Speaker 1: on a Thursday night is not a cakewalk by any means.
- 22:45Speaker 1: It's probably they're an underdog and that might be a loss.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Then you're talking about a Cincinnati team that just gunned
- 22:51Speaker 1: down and had a blast beaten Dallas to spoil their season.
- 22:54Speaker 1: They would love nothing more than to spoil this one.
- 22:56Speaker 1: And then Kansas City, which right now we assume aren't
- 22:58Speaker 1: playing for anything, but we don't know that. And if
- 23:02Speaker 1: Kansas City is looking to firm up the one seed
- 23:05Speaker 1: or Kansas City is trying to keep their guys fresh,
- 23:06Speaker 1: we can't assume they're gonna lay down for Denver. So
- 23:10Speaker 1: shadi ly quietly in a week with really good matchups,
- 23:14Speaker 1: keep an eye on Denver Indianapolis for the long term ramifications.
- 23:18Speaker 1: And if Indianapolis can beat Denver, oh baby, the AFC
- 23:21Speaker 1: playoffs just got really interesting. Okay, that's the podcast for
- 23:25Speaker 1: this week. Many thanks to you Aeron for coming on
- 23:28Speaker 1: in despite having no guests. I thought we had a
- 23:30Speaker 1: nice little rep pet pet, little little convo. Jason English
- 23:34Speaker 1: is in town. Jason English, thank you for being here
- 23:36Speaker 1: as well. We want to thank out our fine sponsors
- 23:38Speaker 1: at uber eats. It's time for delivering results presented by
- 23:41Speaker 1: those fine folks. I'm gonna discuss a team or player
- 23:44Speaker 1: from last week who delivered and the answer is going
- 23:48Speaker 1: to be a player named Ready for This Jalen McMillan.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Jalen McMillan had two touchdowns for Tampa Bay last week,
- 23:56Speaker 1: stepping up in that must win game against the Raiders
- 23:59Speaker 1: as the Bucks regained control in the AFC South. Jalen
- 24:02Speaker 1: McMillan understated guy. When Mike Evans went down and Chris
- 24:06Speaker 1: Godwin went down, he was the guy who was sterling.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Shepherd stepped up and made big plays and now he
- 24:12Speaker 1: is emerging as one of Baker Mayfield's go to guys.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Tampa Bay is in a dog race right now, a
- 24:19Speaker 1: tight one, a hot, hot, hot contested battle with the
- 24:23Speaker 1: Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta's going one way, Tampa's going another. And
- 24:27Speaker 1: who would have thought a rookie Jalen McMillan, a third
- 24:31Speaker 1: round pick out of the University of Washington, would be
- 24:34Speaker 1: the player to get two touchdowns, put up fifty yards
- 24:37Speaker 1: and get Tampa a key, key victory over the Raiders
- 24:40Speaker 1: last week. Jalen McMillan. We see You. That is delivering
- 24:44Speaker 1: results presented by Uber Eats, where you can get the
- 24:46Speaker 1: best deals on game day food all season long. It's

- 25:12Speaker 1: Friday night if I feel great, if I feel okay, Chahboozie,
- 25:16Speaker 1: Katie Perry, Tate, McCrae, Benson, what's his name? Benson Boone?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Is that his name?
- 25:25Speaker 1: I like him, dude, He's good. And many others at
- 25:30Speaker 1: the I.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I don't know Madison Beer's work. Meghan Trainer, she's all
- 25:38Speaker 1: got that, the the Gucci and the whatever. I know
- 25:41Speaker 1: that song. I haven't heard much from her lately. I'm
- 25:43Speaker 1: sure she's still kicking ass. We're gonna get all that.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna go I Heart jingle Ball, can't wait Madison
- 25:50Speaker 1: Square Garden representing this iHeart team. I'm gonna wear a
- 25:53Speaker 1: T shirt that says I Heart I Heart and for
- 25:58Speaker 1: that I will be a proud participant in the shaboozy
- 26:03Speaker 1: sing along just like he had an snl uh and
- 26:06Speaker 1: will all get tipsy my eight year old son included.
- 26:11Speaker 1: All right until next week, guys. This is the Season
