Latest / The Vault: The Epstein Files / Alan Dershowitz Lawyers Allegedly Advised Him Against Appearing In Front Of Congress
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. A couple of days ago we were talking
- 0:08Speaker 1: about Alan Dershowitz and his refusal to appear before Congress.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Well today we're going to talk a little bit more
- 0:16Speaker 1: about that refusal and why according to this Harvard Crimson
- 0:21Speaker 1: article his lawyers told him he couldn't appear and answer questions.
- 0:27Speaker 1: And I find that to be laughable at best, to
- 0:30Speaker 1: tell you the truth, considering how much shit Alan Dershowitz
- 0:33Speaker 1: has talked over the years. Come set the record straight, homie.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Go put yourself under oath. Let's see what's what. You
- 0:41Speaker 1: sure had a lot to say. Well, let's see it.
- 0:44Speaker 1: And of course, in typical Alan Dershowitz fashion, he did
- 0:47Speaker 1: all that yappin'. And now, he's turn and tell. So today,
- 0:53Speaker 1: we have an article from the Harvard Crimson talking about
- 0:55Speaker 1: this topic. And the headline... Dershowitz told by attorneys he
- 0:59Speaker 1: cannot legally testify on Epstein ties. I thought that Alan
- 1:03Speaker 1: Dershowitz was the greatest attorney in the history of great attorneys.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Isn't that what he tells anyone who's listening? But he
- 1:09Speaker 1: didn't know that. He had no idea. Sure, I'm buying that.
- 1:13Speaker 1: This article was authored by Hugo Kuyasin and Elise A. Spenner.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Harvard Law Professor L & M Dershowitz was told by
- 1:22Speaker 1: his attorneys that he cannot legally testify before the House
- 1:25Speaker 1: Oversight Committee on Monday, he said. Dershowitz was scheduled to
- 1:30Speaker 1: sit for an in-person transcribed interview on his ties to
- 1:33Speaker 1: the convicted sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein as part of a
- 1:37Speaker 1: month-long investigation into Epstein and his associates. Dershowitz, a high-profile
- 1:42Speaker 1: defense attorney, helped negotiate Epstein's controversial 2008 plea deal. And look,
- 1:48Speaker 1: for me, I think that's the most critical... part of
- 1:51Speaker 1: this now we know the allegations that have been made
- 1:55Speaker 1: against Alan Dershowitz by Virginia however we also know that
- 1:58Speaker 1: they came to a settlement so I think we should
- 2:03Speaker 1: be focusing on Alan Dershowitz role in that 2008 NPA
- 2:09Speaker 1: and in my opinion I think that NPA is illegal
- 2:14Speaker 1: I think that there was a lot of backroom wrangling
- 2:18Speaker 1: I think that there was a lot of reaching out
- 2:20Speaker 1: to justice And I think that because of who Alan
- 2:23Speaker 1: Dershowitz is, who Ken Starr is, and who the other
- 2:26Speaker 1: lawyers were, they had those relationships already baked in with
- 2:30Speaker 1: Mukasey and Philippe. So, of course, they just went over
- 2:33Speaker 1: Acosta's head and got things done with Maine Justice. And
- 2:39Speaker 1: I think the contemporaneous emails and the documentation proves that.
- 2:46Speaker 1: But his attorney has now reversed course. A spokesperson for
- 2:49Speaker 1: the House Oversight Committee confirmed Friday indicating to the committee
- 2:53Speaker 1: that Dershowitz would not be present for the interview. The
- 2:57Speaker 1: spokesperson said the committee had contacted Dershowitz's attorney to reschedule
- 3:00Speaker 1: the testimony. The move came as an about-face for Dershowitz,
- 3:05Speaker 1: who has for months publicly expressed interest in testifying before
- 3:09Speaker 1: the House. Dershowitz even appealed directly to James Comer, who
- 3:13Speaker 1: chairs the Oversight Committee. Dershowitz said he remained eager to testify.
- 3:19Speaker 1: So eager that his lawyers jumped in, huh? Well, look,
- 3:22Speaker 1: on the advice of my lawyers, it's always some bullshit, right?
- 3:26Speaker 1: Nobody ever just wants to stand up and deal with
- 3:29Speaker 1: the consequences of their actions. Nobody wants to answer the bell.
- 3:32Speaker 1: It's one thing to talk like you're tough. It's a
- 3:34Speaker 1: whole ass other thing to hop into the octagon. Comer
- 3:40Speaker 1: formally requested Dershowitz sit for an interview last month after
- 3:43Speaker 1: a meeting with several Epstein survivors and testimony from Epstein's
- 3:47Speaker 1: longtime assistant, Leslie Groff. At the time, Dershowitz said he
- 3:51Speaker 1: would offer documentation to the committee showing that individuals with
- 3:55Speaker 1: ties to Epstein should be evaluated case by case. He
- 3:59Speaker 1: said that the full story of Epstein's connections was more
- 4:01Speaker 1: nuanced and complex than it's been presented. Oh yeah, Alan Dershowitz,
- 4:06Speaker 1: come set the record straight. Because you're a reliable narrator,
- 4:09Speaker 1: you have nothing to hide. You weren't involved with Jeffrey
- 4:13Speaker 1: Epstein as far as the legal team. And furthermore, you've
- 4:17Speaker 1: already admitted you got a massage, right? And I know,
- 4:20Speaker 1: I know you kept your underwear on, Mr. Tidy Whiting himself.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But this whole entire false narrative that Dershowitz has been
- 4:27Speaker 1: running when it comes to Epstein is just unbelievably stupid.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And he thinks that his, I don't know, credibility, if
- 4:37Speaker 1: you'll call it that, is going to get people to
- 4:39Speaker 1: believe him. Look, the only people that are going to
- 4:41Speaker 1: believe him are the people that already want to believe him.
- 4:45Speaker 1: That's it. Nobody that's nuanced, nobody that's looked into this,
- 4:51Speaker 1: nobody that knows the real story believes that Dershowitz doesn't
- 4:55Speaker 1: know more than he's saying. Now, there are some entanglements
- 4:59Speaker 1: and there are some complications considering he was a lawyer
- 5:02Speaker 1: and there's privilege, but everything's privileged? Every bit of information? Well, maybe. Unfortunately,
- 5:10Speaker 1: we won't know because his balls haven't dropped yet and
- 5:14Speaker 1: he's scared to appear before Congress. It's unclear what legal
- 5:19Speaker 1: obligations stand in the way of his testimony. Dershowitz attorneys
- 5:23Speaker 1: did not immediately respond to a request for comment. That's
- 5:26Speaker 1: a big tell for me. And it looks like they're
- 5:29Speaker 1: running scared. Now, is that what's really happening? I don't know.
- 5:33Speaker 1: We haven't heard from Dershowitz or his team. But it's
- 5:36Speaker 1: not looking good. The optics of it are pretty bad.
- 5:41Speaker 1: You're supposed to appear before Congress on Monday and on Friday.
- 5:45Speaker 1: You're calling to say, ah, you know what? Maybe instead
- 5:48Speaker 1: of appearing before Congress, I'll head back out to Martha's
- 5:51Speaker 1: Vineyard and berate some pierogi vendors instead. Seems to be
- 5:55Speaker 1: more your speed, Mr. Dershowitz. The Oversight Committee has heard
- 6:01Speaker 1: testimony from several high-profile figures with ties to Epstein since
- 6:05Speaker 1: launching its investigation last summer, including Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates
- 6:10Speaker 1: and former U.S. President Bill Clinton. And that all worked
- 6:13Speaker 1: out well, huh? We got a lot of information from them,
- 6:16Speaker 1: said nobody ever. And the morons on the GOP side
- 6:19Speaker 1: of the aisle, they fumbled the ball big time when
- 6:22Speaker 1: it comes to the Clinton interrogation. Nobody asked the right
- 6:25Speaker 1: questions and in fact made the Clintons look better than
- 6:28Speaker 1: even when they walked in. Now, those of us who
- 6:31Speaker 1: know the story, well, we know that that's not the
- 6:33Speaker 1: case and that the Clintons lied through their teeth. The
- 6:36Speaker 1: problem is that the committee and Congress has no teeth.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So they can't hold people accountable. And we've seen it
- 6:45Speaker 1: time and time again. Dershowitz is not the only Harvard
- 6:50Speaker 1: affiliate the committee has expressed interest in speaking with. Representative
- 6:54Speaker 1: Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat, said he hoped to speak
- 6:57Speaker 1: with former university president Lawrence H. Summers because of his
- 7:01Speaker 1: decades-long friendship with Epstein. Mr. Summers is someone that we,
- 7:07Speaker 1: as a committee, have not had the chance to speak with.
- 7:10Speaker 1: That would be, or that's somebody we would like to
- 7:12Speaker 1: speak with, Garcia said in June. It seems that his
- 7:16Speaker 1: name continues to come up. Summers came up in Clinton's
- 7:19Speaker 1: February testimony in which the former president said he was
- 7:23Speaker 1: introduced to Epstein by the former treasury secretary after they
- 7:27Speaker 1: had left office and described the convicted child predator as
- 7:31Speaker 1: an information-hungry person. Oh, well, that explains it all. Mr.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Information-Hungry-Hungry Hippo over here, so I guess we'll just hang
- 7:39Speaker 1: out with them, you know, in our pursuit of knowledge.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I don't think we detest these people enough, and that's
- 7:46Speaker 1: because they're just detestable. Everything about Alan Dershowitz and his
- 7:51Speaker 1: relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is questionable. Now, I'm not going
- 7:56Speaker 1: to sit here and tell you that we have evidence
- 7:59Speaker 1: of him doing anything else with Epstein. There's been allegations,
- 8:03Speaker 1: but those allegations have been walked back. So we have
- 8:06Speaker 1: to be mindful of the record. But does that exonerate
- 8:09Speaker 1: Alan Dershowitz from all of the other allegations of ties
- 8:13Speaker 1: to Jeffrey Epstein? I don't think it does. Now, I
- 8:17Speaker 1: don't know if there's anything That is criminal, right? But
- 8:21Speaker 1: I think reputationally, and I think morally, Alan Dershowitz was
- 8:25Speaker 1: certainly in the wrong. And I think he knows that.
- 8:30Speaker 1: And he just doesn't care. He's one of those guys
- 8:33Speaker 1: that is so smug, and he thinks he's smarter than
- 8:37Speaker 1: everybody else around him. So he's going to just, you know,
- 8:40Speaker 1: continue on this path of saying whatever the fuck he
- 8:44Speaker 1: wants to say. when a lot of it just doesn't
- 8:48Speaker 1: have any basis in truth. Who asked Alan Dershowitz to
- 8:52Speaker 1: run around talking about Epstein and the intelligence world? Did
- 8:55Speaker 1: somebody ask him to be the spokesperson to go against
- 8:59Speaker 1: that messaging? Nobody asked him. He just inserts himself into
- 9:02Speaker 1: the conversation all the time, and then he gets mad
- 9:05Speaker 1: when people criticize him. Well, here's an idea, Mr. I-kept-my-underpants-on.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Man up, step up to the plate, and do what
- 9:13Speaker 1: you said you were going to do. You're going to
- 9:15Speaker 1: give this testimony. You're going to blow the doors off
- 9:17Speaker 1: of it. You're going to set everything right. Meanwhile, you
- 9:22Speaker 1: never showed up. You canceled. You backed out. And like
- 9:25Speaker 1: the typical smarmy bastard you are, you're going to blame
- 9:29Speaker 1: the process. You're going to blame everybody else. After you
- 9:33Speaker 1: yourself stood on those mountaintops and screamed like a lunatic
- 9:38Speaker 1: about how you want to set the record straight and
- 9:40Speaker 1: about how everybody else is a liar. Well, Mr. Dershowitz,
- 9:43Speaker 1: you had your chance. You had your platform. What happened?
- 9:46Speaker 1: Did your lawyers take a look at what was going
- 9:48Speaker 1: on and tell you that you had exposure? Did they
- 9:51Speaker 1: tell you that it's probably not a good idea to
- 9:55Speaker 1: go and run your yap in front of Congress? Why'd
- 9:58Speaker 1: you back out, Mr. Dershowitz? What happened? Because up until now,
- 10:04Speaker 1: there was a whole lot of talk. I mean, Conor
- 10:07Speaker 1: McGregor levels of talk. And then on the way to
- 10:11Speaker 1: the cage, Dershowitz blows out his knee. Well, isn't that convenient?
- 10:15Speaker 1: So look, I hope that Congress stops messing around with Dershowitz.
- 10:19Speaker 1: and hits him with that subpoena. Because if anybody ever
- 10:22Speaker 1: deserved one, it's Alan, I kept my underpants on, Dershowitz.
- 10:27Speaker 1: All the information that goes with this episode can be
