- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's a beautiful morning in San Francisco. We're here with
- 0:09Speaker 2: Andrew Spencer. Andrew, it's been a while since we will
- 0:12Speaker 2: sit down, catch up and talk about a year. Last
- 0:15Speaker 2: time was in Beverly hillsy thing. Yes, it was life
- 0:18Speaker 2: for you. I think looks a little bit different in
- 0:20Speaker 2: the last year, right, But I think when I saw you, uh,
- 0:25Speaker 2: you were well, you were still out in La living
- 0:27Speaker 2: at the time, kind of doing like the group of
- 0:31Speaker 2: guys that came out to Beverly Hills.
- 0:33Speaker 3: I think it was you and.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Justin Rodney, and I think Nate Nate. We're kind of all,
- 0:39Speaker 2: you know, running together. But at that point in time,
- 0:41Speaker 2: some people had started to find love and speak of it. Obviously,
- 0:46Speaker 2: we got to give a little shout to Rodney. I
- 0:48Speaker 2: just saw yesterday that he proposed.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Man, just out of the blue. I scroll and I
- 0:54Speaker 4: see it a little hurt. I didn't get the call beforehand,
- 0:58Speaker 4: but it was.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Just as cool.
- 1:00Speaker 4: We'll see in the was that yesterday that you found out? Yeah,
- 1:02Speaker 4: oh man, it was amazing. Obviously, he's like one of
- 1:05Speaker 4: the most people that are so deserving of love. I'm
- 1:09Speaker 4: so happy he found it. You know, it's good.
- 1:12Speaker 2: If I remember, right when we were together, you were
- 1:15Speaker 2: also dating somebody.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, that was a while ago. It feels
- 1:22Speaker 3: like a while ago. Yeah, both, it was a while ago.
- 1:25Speaker 3: And it does feel like a while ago.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and that obviously no longer that relationship no longer
- 1:31Speaker 2: is active.
- 1:32Speaker 3: No, no longer active. It's just you know what happens.
- 1:37Speaker 4: You're still trying to find someone.
- 1:40Speaker 3: So let's yeah, you just keep moving on.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Well, okay, so catch me up then in the last year,
- 1:44Speaker 2: because I, like I said, at that event in Beverly Hills,
- 1:47Speaker 2: it did feel like everybody's kind of doing their own things. Yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 2: there's relationships, you're kind of still all in la, but
- 1:55Speaker 2: now there's so much different as we started this thing,
- 1:57Speaker 2: And I said.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Yeah, from I think a lot has changed within myself
- 2:01Speaker 4: and also just my friends group. You know, obviously everyone
- 2:05Speaker 4: is looking for partners. You know, I see like there's
- 2:08Speaker 4: like a baby craze going on right now. Everyone's getting
- 2:11Speaker 4: engaged right now. So it's like you've see all these
- 2:13Speaker 4: things coming to happen are happening, and for me and
- 2:15Speaker 4: like a couple of my friends right now, we're going opposite,
- 2:19Speaker 4: so we're I.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Don't know what. Intentionally, No, not intentionally.
- 2:23Speaker 4: I think I think we're starting to realize that we're
- 2:26Speaker 4: putting a little bit too much pressure on it. And
- 2:28Speaker 4: I feel like myself like I've been like too pressure,
- 2:31Speaker 4: too much pressure on like trying to find my family
- 2:35Speaker 4: and that my partner, that it's not happening, and I
- 2:40Speaker 4: keep doing these like same failed relationships over and over.
- 2:43Speaker 2: So do you know, like, do you have a reason
- 2:45Speaker 2: why in your mind that these relationships aren't working?
- 2:47Speaker 3: Do you feel like you man, you know, No, I don't.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I just actually I just got out of relationship like
- 2:55Speaker 4: a week and a half ago.
- 2:56Speaker 3: I was seeing someone else that was my first like
- 2:58Speaker 3: local in town like this. When was it public or
- 3:02Speaker 3: was it public? No, it wasn't.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I mean we did public stuff, but not like no, no,
- 3:07Speaker 4: I wasn't. Like yeah, so it was nice. It was
- 3:09Speaker 4: like girl from Chicago, Like I never dated someone that
- 3:13Speaker 4: was like down the block from me.
- 3:14Speaker 3: You know. It was nice, and then I didn't work out.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Then I'm like, I'm like looking, I'm like, what am
- 3:19Speaker 3: I doing wrong?
- 3:20Speaker 4: So it's still a week off, so we're still trying
- 3:23Speaker 4: to like figure out what it is and what we're
- 3:26Speaker 4: looking for.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Are you a relationshipship type of guy, Like do you
- 3:29Speaker 2: desire to be in a relationship or.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I am. I just feel like, you know, it's
- 3:37Speaker 3: a scary thing.
- 3:38Speaker 4: It's a scary because I feel like I do self
- 3:42Speaker 4: sabotage in a way where I don't like being such
- 3:47Speaker 4: a high and then like and it ends because then
- 3:50Speaker 4: I like I can't recover fast enough.
- 3:52Speaker 3: So I always try to like lessen the blow.
- 3:55Speaker 4: And I think that's probably my biggest problem was just
- 3:57Speaker 4: like I was like, I act like I don't care
- 3:59Speaker 4: about some things because I don't want to get too invested.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And then you're like, well, I want to get to a.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Point where I know for sure like this is a person,
- 4:05Speaker 4: and then I could just fully give them a hunter.
- 4:08Speaker 4: And that's why I'm like, I feel like I'm messing
- 4:09Speaker 4: up a little bit.
- 4:10Speaker 2: So but you, obviously, I mean you're somebody who has
- 4:13Speaker 2: always been I mean you've been told to a thousand times.
- 4:16Speaker 2: You have an energy about you that's captivating and brings
- 4:20Speaker 2: people in, and you have a joy about you that
- 4:23Speaker 2: obviously is people want to be around, right, And so like,
- 4:28Speaker 2: how I guess when you with you just said, how
- 4:31Speaker 2: do you hold back in relationships?
- 4:32Speaker 3: In because it does feel like.
- 4:34Speaker 2: You bring everything you've got to the moments that you're in, So.
- 4:38Speaker 3: How do you hold back?
- 4:39Speaker 4: It's it's it's almost like you're stuck playing this game,
- 4:46Speaker 4: you know what I mean, like of like push and pull.
- 4:49Speaker 4: And that's where I'm like, I'm in the middle of
- 4:51Speaker 4: I'm just like playing this game because you know, I
- 4:55Speaker 4: feel like every other woman is playing the game against me,
- 4:59Speaker 4: you know what I mean. So you're like, well, they
- 5:01Speaker 4: know the game, you know what I mean. So they're like,
- 5:04Speaker 4: you don't give too much or you don't take too
- 5:06Speaker 4: you know what I mean. So that's that's the situation
- 5:09Speaker 4: I feel like I'm in, and it's so exhausting cause
- 5:12Speaker 4: I know, like myself and a couple of my friends,
- 5:14Speaker 4: we just we want to give, like all of us.
- 5:17Speaker 4: But at the same time, like I don't know if
- 5:19Speaker 4: this era likes that, you know what I mean. It's like, well,
- 5:21Speaker 4: he's too nice of a guy, or he does too
- 5:23Speaker 4: much for me. I'm like, how is that a bad thing?
- 5:27Speaker 4: So at this point, like you're just kind of like
- 5:29Speaker 4: trying different things and it's not very it's not it's
- 5:31Speaker 4: not as natural as I want it to be, and
- 5:34Speaker 4: like that's what kind of sucks. It's like, you know,
- 5:37Speaker 4: you want to be your full self, but at the
- 5:39Speaker 4: same time, you're afraid of, like that being rejected because
- 5:42Speaker 4: if your full self gets rejected, then you're just like,
- 5:45Speaker 4: I don't.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Know what am I going next? Oh?
- 5:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you're so vulnerable when you get into
- 5:50Speaker 2: that and that pain that can come with it.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I mean, I think a very cheap question to you
- 5:57Speaker 2: would be, would you ever try to do the show again?
- 6:00Speaker 2: Because obviously dating in the real world isn't easy.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, yeah I would. I mean I don't
- 6:06Speaker 4: have a problem with that at all. I've been actually
- 6:09Speaker 4: asked to be on so many other shows right now
- 6:12Speaker 4: I can't say, but so, I mean I'm not, like,
- 6:15Speaker 4: you know, opposed to it. So we'll see, you know,
- 6:19Speaker 4: I think any way I can find.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Outside of the Bachelor world, Yeah that does that excite you?
- 6:24Speaker 2: The opportunities outside of it? Or would you prefer to
- 6:26Speaker 2: stay within it?
- 6:27Speaker 4: I you know, I'd prefer to stay in it, But
- 6:30Speaker 4: you know, at the end of the day, like if
- 6:32Speaker 4: there's a different opportunity, a different way of doing it.
- 6:35Speaker 3: You know, it doesn't bother me at all.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Well, obviously yesterday, you know, we're out here in San Francisco.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yesterday I spoke with Greg.
- 6:53Speaker 2: He had mentioned he hasn't started dating in the last
- 6:55Speaker 2: like seven six seven months, he's kind of taken time off.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:59Speaker 2: You also stead at the beginning that your your friendships
- 7:02Speaker 2: have changed. Yeah, is does that? Can you elaborate on that?
- 7:06Speaker 2: Like does that mean you've lost friendships here in the
- 7:08Speaker 2: last year or you've just gone different paths?
- 7:11Speaker 3: Like what is that? I think you guys were so tight? Yeah,
- 7:14Speaker 3: or I wouldn't say that.
- 7:15Speaker 4: I think everyone's starting to find their person and like,
- 7:19Speaker 4: you know, you just want to be more respectful to
- 7:21Speaker 4: their time with their people. And and you know, like
- 7:25Speaker 4: like I said, like Greg said, like he's not dating anyone.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Like the vibe of our group has completely shifted a
- 7:30Speaker 4: little bit.
- 7:32Speaker 3: You know.
- 7:32Speaker 4: It's it's a lot more work based. It's more about
- 7:35Speaker 4: like doing stuff like that than it is how we were,
- 7:38Speaker 4: you know, trying to find a girl and trying to
- 7:40Speaker 4: do this. And it's completely like shifted. So it's like, uh,
- 7:44Speaker 4: like everyone around us is just like it's I don't know,
- 7:48Speaker 4: it's it's it's a lot different than we were a
- 7:50Speaker 4: year ago, our mindsets compared to you know, last year.
- 7:55Speaker 3: So is this something you enjoy? Are you missing? No,
- 7:59Speaker 3: it's I think it's good for the group. I think,
- 8:02Speaker 3: I think.
- 8:02Speaker 4: And it wasn't like we all sat down and talked
- 8:05Speaker 4: about like we should do this. It's something that's like
- 8:07Speaker 4: just happened to all of us. And you know, it's
- 8:10Speaker 4: been nice that you know, we'd be able to be
- 8:12Speaker 4: able to be on the same page, and that's what
- 8:16Speaker 4: you know, it's easier to do things, you know, easier
- 8:18Speaker 4: to make decisions on what we're going to do because
- 8:21Speaker 4: everyone's kind of on the same page.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels like that is a really healthy, natural progression.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Yes, because you're how old now? About turn thirty? About
- 8:31Speaker 3: turn thirty?
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah, so like when you hit thirty, right, the life
- 8:34Speaker 2: looks different than it does at twenty five. There's new
- 8:38Speaker 2: responsibilities and new and new fun things that you can
- 8:41Speaker 2: participate in. But like, I don't see my friends half
- 8:44Speaker 2: as much as I did at twenty five now that
- 8:46Speaker 2: I'm thirty five because families, kids exactly going together still
- 8:51Speaker 2: blast same thing.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Pick up like where you left off. Yeah, well, it
- 8:56Speaker 3: kind of close out here.
- 8:57Speaker 2: I do want to talk about outside of romance, because
- 9:01Speaker 2: that's kind of what people love to hear, but outside
- 9:03Speaker 2: of romance professionally for you, I know, last year we're
- 9:05Speaker 2: getting ready to come up on college football season.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Last year you did a lot with college football.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I got to see you on my television on Saturday mornings.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You're obviously a former college football player yourself. You know,
- 9:19Speaker 2: what does that look like this year and what maybe
- 9:22Speaker 2: kind of dreams do you have for that career path?
- 9:26Speaker 4: No, man, I absolutely love the game of football, so
- 9:30Speaker 4: it's like it's like a second nature to me. So
- 9:34Speaker 4: I thought, like, you know, hey, I'm really good at this,
- 9:36Speaker 4: and I get to be able.
- 9:37Speaker 3: To be around it more.
- 9:38Speaker 4: This is something I really want to do, is what
- 9:40Speaker 4: I dream of being being able to do. And like
- 9:42Speaker 4: being an athlete, you never got to play in all
- 9:44Speaker 4: these big stadiums and you know for these established, you know, universities,
- 9:48Speaker 4: So being able to go to these different universities stadiums
- 9:52Speaker 4: and all that like that, that.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Just brings me great joy.
- 9:56Speaker 4: You know, I've worked with ESPN multiple times h College
- 9:59Speaker 4: Game Day specifically, you know, I've been on the show
- 10:03Speaker 4: I've talked talked football National championship like on a on
- 10:06Speaker 4: a on a television screen in front of millions, you know,
- 10:10Speaker 4: I've m seed Jonas Brothers concerts, so like it's been, uh,
- 10:15Speaker 4: you know, it's been really cool. I've gotten my feet
- 10:18Speaker 4: in the water, and I kind of want to just
- 10:19Speaker 4: keep going and doing it.
- 10:22Speaker 3: You know. I also wanted to like try to put
- 10:24Speaker 3: my little spin on it.
- 10:25Speaker 4: You know, obviously there's so many people in this field
- 10:27Speaker 4: and I want to do the same thing. So yeah,
- 10:30Speaker 4: I mean I feel like I've I've gathered a lot
- 10:32Speaker 4: of connections within college football and ESPN, so you know,
- 10:38Speaker 4: hopefully that that that gets me a little bit further,
- 10:42Speaker 4: like because that's it's that's the only thing. It's about
- 10:45Speaker 4: who you know, not what you know. You know, I
- 10:47Speaker 4: didn't study to be a journalism in journalism and anything
- 10:51Speaker 4: like that. I just kind of fell into it. And
- 10:54Speaker 4: you know, hopefully that keeps going.
- 10:57Speaker 2: What's your spin that you put on a see I
- 11:01Speaker 2: want to I want to deal with a little bit
- 11:03Speaker 2: more over the players.
- 11:05Speaker 4: You know, I feel like I want to be able
- 11:07Speaker 4: to relate to them and just have them be more free.
- 11:10Speaker 4: And you know, I hate when athletes do interviews and
- 11:13Speaker 4: they tell you the same old stick, you know what
- 11:15Speaker 4: I mean, like, who are you like? This is an athlete, Like,
- 11:18Speaker 4: you know, be yourself here, you know. I want to
- 11:20Speaker 4: be able to promote you as you yea and with
- 11:24Speaker 4: that and also being able to see the facilities, like
- 11:28Speaker 4: what a day to day looks like for an athlete
- 11:31Speaker 4: right before a game day, you know what I mean,
- 11:32Speaker 4: just kind of that kind of stuff. I feel like
- 11:35Speaker 4: there's not enough spotlight on some of the players, and
- 11:39Speaker 4: you know, going into the NFL Draft, I think it's
- 11:41Speaker 4: one of the coolest things to kind of know who
- 11:44Speaker 4: your team is about to pick. And I feel like
- 11:46Speaker 4: that's a quick YouTube church like, oh well I saw
- 11:49Speaker 4: him sit. This is the kind of guy we're getting.
- 11:51Speaker 4: So that that's that's something I would want to do,
- 11:53Speaker 4: like down the line, I think that'd.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Be really cool.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So if anybody's listening and they have a connection or
- 11:58Speaker 2: they're into that field, Andrew's just you're excited, you're ready,
- 12:03Speaker 2: and you put in the work.
- 12:04Speaker 3: I mean, it's not like you're just you know.
- 12:05Speaker 2: I think sometimes people get off the show and they
- 12:07Speaker 2: just kind of say, no, I'm gonna go host this
- 12:09Speaker 2: or do this.
- 12:10Speaker 3: You've put in the work, You've grinded, now.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Grinded sent millions of d ms to college universities, and hey,
- 12:17Speaker 4: can we come out and you guys, can you host
- 12:19Speaker 4: a sort of game? And you know, people might be
- 12:21Speaker 4: embarrassed to do it, but I think it's uh, you know,
- 12:24Speaker 4: I think it's one of the things that I take
- 12:26Speaker 4: pride in myself, is just like being able to ask
- 12:29Speaker 4: you know what I mean, and ask for help.
- 12:31Speaker 3: And I think it's it's a huge way.
- 12:33Speaker 2: No, I mean, I think it's incredibly impressive. It's so
- 12:36Speaker 2: much better than just sitting back and saying I deserve this.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Now you put in the work. You're sitting your resume
- 12:41Speaker 3: out there in the sense.
- 12:42Speaker 4: And that's you know, it's that's the athlete and all
- 12:44Speaker 4: of us that you know, you know, work is the
- 12:47Speaker 4: reason why you're going to get to where you want
- 12:48Speaker 4: to be. So yeah, I'm not afraid of that and
- 12:52Speaker 4: look forward to doing more.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I hope it works out. I really do.
- 12:56Speaker 2: I'll be excited for you when I will pull up
- 13:00Speaker 2: my social media or maybe turn on the TV on
- 13:03Speaker 2: Saturdays and I see you there on that.
- 13:05Speaker 4: There's already it's oversaturated for bachelor guys. And you know,
- 13:08Speaker 4: I got on the float and that's Jesse and then
- 13:10Speaker 4: I see Jordan. I was like, oh, dang, I'm the
- 13:14Speaker 4: the man. I'm the third guy trying to be the
- 13:17Speaker 4: whole football to bachelors.
- 13:20Speaker 3: This word's out for those two though. Yeah, they're great
- 13:23Speaker 3: and they're crushing it. They're crushing it. They're doing just fine.
- 13:25Speaker 3: So I think there's room for three and I hope.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I mean, shoot, I would take a little piece of
- 13:30Speaker 3: the pie. You deserve it. Man.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Well, hey, we wish you the best. Thanks for coming
- 13:34Speaker 2: out here. We'll have a lot of fun today. Just
- 13:36Speaker 2: appreciate catching up.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Appreciate it, man, thanks for having me.
