Hunt ISD’s Resilience After Tragedy | San Antonio News
After July fourth floods claimed the lives of two young students who would have attended Hunt ISD in Texas, the district chose healing over academics, rallying the community to support grieving families and rebuild resilience. Students, even through thunderstorms and trauma, pushed forward — and the district grew, adding 22 new students. In honor of Renee Smajstrla and Lyle Zunker, their handwritten signatures were etched into the new gym floor, and two annual awards now celebrate students who show love, joy, and courage.
