- 3:15guest. And she is someone that has become near and dear to my heart.
- 3:23She is as I love to call her. She is a seasoned diva.
- 3:29She is a she's amazing. But I want you to come. I
- 3:36want you to see how amazing she is for yourself. She is a medical
- 3:40professional. She's also a writer. She's just so, she's a motivational speaker.
- 3:46She does it all. So, without further ado, I want to
- 3:51introduce my guest to you. Her name is Donna Rankin's Johnson, but I
- 3:57call her Mama Donna. Hey, how are you? I am good?
- 4:05How are you? I'm good? I am well, I am well.
- 4:13I'm just nervous, but I am well. Yes, but I'm with you,
- 4:17So it's okay. Could you hear me. Now, you know you
- 4:27got this? Okay, you know you got this. Yeah, I can
- 4:31hear you. I can hear you. You know you know you got it.
- 4:35So we we're just gonna get right into it. You ready. I'm
- 4:40really hate and that all right? So I want you to you can see
- 4:48I want you to tell us who Donna Ranking. Yeah, I can see
- 4:55people, I can see it. So I want you to tell us who
- 4:59dies. I'm Rankins Johnson is. Donna Rankins Johnson is a sixty nine years
- 5:11young, seasoned lady who is ever evolving. Donna Rankins Johnson is divorced and
- 5:24the mother of one son who's forty two years old. At the end of
- 5:30those twenty three years, I didn't know who I was. So over these
- 5:35twenty six years, I've become in touch with who I am by sitting under
- 5:43excellent teachers for which I am sitting under now, David A. Boris of
- 5:49the David Boris Academy. And it's because I am ever evolving. It's getting
- 5:58to understand the dating street now. So I have to invest with me so
- 6:10that I am protected. When I decided that I am going to date date
- 6:21nice, I know you are also have been in the medical profession for over
- 6:29thirty years. Correct, correct, and you also and you also write,
- 6:36So how did you get to that point? Like what drove you to be
- 6:43in the medical profession and then what also drove you to be home a writer
- 6:47there as well, it's a medical profession. I went to the University of
- 6:54Kentucky to be a physicious assistant. My class work was outstanding, but when
- 7:00I had to do the clinicals, there was a whole nother story. I
- 7:04was passed out somewhere because of blood or the smell of something, and I
- 7:10still wanted to be in the medical so medical administration. Then when I got
- 7:16pregnant, my husband at that time wanted me to be a stay at home
- 7:24mom. But what am I going to do? So I took all of
- 7:29that terminology that I had learned and did medical transcription from home. So I
- 7:35became self employant for thirty years where I would down into the different hospital systems
- 7:43and I was a subcontractor, so that's what I did. So it was
- 7:48as if God was preparing me for what was to come, and that was
- 7:54for me to be a single model. So I was able to be at
- 7:59home with my son not miss any of his functions and continued to grow.
- 8:07Now, writing nice, writing was just was something that it allowed my imagination
- 8:18to be and divorced. And if I may say that I was a virgin
- 8:28when I got married, and I was married for twenty three years and now
- 8:33twenty six years, I am single. But it's how I believe that it
- 8:43was more efficacious for me to put pin to paper than bottom too sheets,
- 8:50if you understand what I'm saying. So I allowed my genation to write what
- 8:58I thought was correct. I don't like how they portray us when they write
- 9:07of us being intimate or in relationships. They never write about us being passionate.
- 9:16It's always something jump in it and there's no love there, there's no
- 9:24feelings. And so my writings have no ethnenticity. So you can you can
- 9:33be that person, that female person, and you can give it a name,
- 9:37because there's no Bonqueisha's, no Swanda's, no Rodriguez, no, none
- 9:43of those names. You can name that character whatever you want to name that
- 9:48character. So you become interactive with my writings. And so that's what and
- 9:56I wanted to show that a black woman could be very passionate and write with
- 10:05feelings and warms. Yeah, nice? What is it? What is mm
- 10:16hmmm, Well we're gonna get to that. We're gonna get to your writings
- 10:22in a moment. But I have I know you. Also, you do
- 10:28a Facebook life that's called you mean Tea with Lady d And how did how
- 10:39did that come about? It was two persons that are dear to me,
- 10:46David Burns and God. Because when I get very nervous, I stutter.
- 10:56So this was not something that I even for myself. Just write it on
- 11:01paper. I don't have to talk to anyone. I did before you,
- 11:09me and Tea. I did Divorce Care and Relationships in Need of Repair under
- 11:16doctor Philip M. Baldwin in Greenville, South Carolina. That was my church
- 11:22and so they it was a group so to teach you how you can go
- 11:28through divorce. Divorce does not have to be cousin and damny and you're just
- 11:35at each other. Now. That was an assignment from God. I told
- 11:41God that I didn't want to do it anymore, and I don't know,
- 11:46I felt grown, and he reminded me that it was not my chores,
- 11:52okay, And during last year he put me in time out doing this ninety
- 12:00day fast that I'm doing right now. And I said, yes, sir,
- 12:07okay, So those are the two people that are dear to me,
- 12:11David Burris and God. So David challenged me to do. He didn't care
- 12:16what it was. Do something for twenty minutes where I had to talk,
- 12:24and because it was live, I wasn't really interacting with people, just to
- 12:30get my feet wet. Right, So April this is twenty fourth April twenty
- 12:37two. So we started it, and God, I think tag team with
- 12:43David, and he said, well, let's get back to basics, because
- 12:48there are young women as well as seasoned ladies like myself who have not had
- 12:56what you had, which was your great grandmother and your grandmother and your mother
- 13:01to pour into you that you are always a lady and that this is God's
- 13:09temple. And so how we're going to treat it right, So back to
- 13:16basics. We're not going to be loud, We're not going to be brazen.
- 13:20We're not going to have everything just hanging out. All of our grocery
- 13:24is overflowing out of the bag. We're gonna get back to basics. Your
- 13:31attitude, how you talk, how you carry yourself, you're not going to
- 13:35go to Walmart with your pajamas are and you buy it on your head and
- 13:39wondering why. Okay, so this is not what we're going to do.
- 13:46So it's back to basics. So just come and sit with me. And
- 13:50I hope that what I impart to you is with love. I hope that
- 13:56you feel the love that I am trying to share with you, not forgetting
- 14:03that I too used to be young, so I'm not trying to take away
- 14:07You're fun, yes, but I do with your find the woman, the
- 14:13femininity within, and it's there. We just have to bring in food.
- 14:22So I have I have sit in and I absolutely love how you every week
- 14:31when you come on, you break down the topic for that week and it
- 14:37leaves and you you give us Bible versus that are so significant to what you're
- 14:45discussing. And I know for me like after like replaying it and sitting down
- 14:52and rewatching you, you see where the two connect. And that's what I
- 14:58love about how you bring forth what you discussed on you me tea with Lady
- 15:03D and I encourage everybody. We're gonna we're gonna let you know. We're
- 15:09gonna let everyone know at the end where you can where they can see you,
- 15:11and all of that. But I have a question, and this is
- 15:16something that I know you and I have discussed a few times, and it
- 15:22was when did you realize that you had a passion for empowering our community?
- 15:30When my son I took him and dropped him off at Mars Hill College University
- 15:39in North Carolina, and I came back home and I cried because I only
- 15:46have one child. I cried because I was emptiness. I cried because I
- 15:54didn't know who I was. I went from being mother and father's daughter to
- 16:02be in my ex's wife, to be in my son's mother. But who
- 16:07am I? I don't know. When they address me, they say,
- 16:12oh, you're Robert and mccatherine's daughter. Just ma'am. Oh you're Georgia's wife.
- 16:18Yes I am. Oh you're Derek's mother. But I have a name.
- 16:25I don't know who I am. So there's a little book when I
- 16:30thought I had to hear on my desk and then it's the Prayer of Jaybas,
- 16:36the Prayer of jay Bass. And so I'm fast and I pray,
- 16:41and I asked God to show me who am I? What am I to
- 16:45do. Now, you know, I've raised my son. We have because
- 16:51he was an excellent father. He had other issues, but he was an
- 16:56excellent father and an excellent cope with me to raise her son. But now
- 17:04it's just me and so the father said, it's time for you to give
- 17:11back. What does that mean? Father, Well, there are you.
- 17:17You are a teacher. You know what your spiritual gift is. Your spiritual
- 17:22gift is that you are a teacher. So the church where I was had
- 17:26a tutorial system, and so I gave back and he kept saying, what
- 17:33you do? So I did divorced care, I gave black and it's always
- 17:41been my assignment. He's never told me that I can stop giving back,
- 17:48okay, so that each time he enlarged my territory a little bit at a
- 17:56time, he gave me just enough. And you work here. Now now
- 18:02you, Natalie have taken me to another And her name was T I call
- 18:08her TK, t K and DJ before you you all have taken me just
- 18:15a little bit further. She has the tk's Chronicles of a Black Sheet.
- 18:21She has a podcast. So I'm like these young people having me on a
- 18:25podcast. This is God taking me just a little bit further, just a
- 18:30little bit further, and so what I'm forever evolving. You mentioned the Prayer
- 18:41of Jabez, and that is something that I have used in my life.
- 18:45And if anyone out there that has not listen or read the Prayer of Jabez,
- 18:55it's something that when you're in that moment and it's you and God,
- 19:03you're asking him to show you, reveal to you in large, give you
- 19:07more, increase your territories. And I can't I see where where the two
- 19:14came in. Where as you're praying that prayer, and it shows you how
- 19:19to increase and how to give back and how to become and how to evolve.
- 19:23So that is very how do you say, not poignant, but it
- 19:29shows the significance between releasing your natural and letting the father in part what he
- 19:37wants for you is for you to impart as well onto others. Because I'm
- 19:42representing him, I'm not representing me. And every time that I talk,
- 19:48every time that I speak, it's just him speaking so that I can hear,
- 19:53okay, So it's not going out just to you guys. It's a
- 19:59constant remind for me, you see what I'm saying, And he never he
- 20:06never gives you an assignment that he doesn't equip you to do that assignment.
- 20:12So he's never gonna have you to go out there and do something because you're
- 20:18representing him, He's always going to equip you. He's gonna have you just
- 20:22sit under someone so you can get the knowledge that you need to do.
- 20:26Because whatever you gain when I tomorrow night sit with David in the DBA David
- 20:37Bird's Academy, that information is not just for me to hoard. That information
- 20:45is for me to share. So I'm always getting which helps me. Now
- 20:52I share and hopefully it helps you. So my next question, and this
- 21:00is something else that I know, it's very dear to both of us.
- 21:06And you know, in a short time you have become one of my mentors.
- 21:11And we also share a bond, not just in writing, but we
- 21:14share a bond in our health journeys as breast cancer survivors. What is something
- 21:23that you would tell women and not just women, men as well, because
- 21:29men get it as well. What would you tell someone that is scared whether
- 21:36and it doesn't just have to be for cancer, It can be anything.
- 21:38Scared to go to the doctor, scared to go get that check up.
- 21:41What would you tell someone what would you encourage them? Like? What words
- 21:47of encouragement would you give them? It's not just about you, It's not
- 21:53about you. There's someone else depending on you. There's a child, there's
- 22:00a husband, there is a mother, there is a grandmother that's depending on
- 22:04you. And so you need you need to always make sure that you take
- 22:15care. This is God's temple. So if you don't go and have it
- 22:21checked up. You have a car, right and if you don't take your
- 22:27car in for oil change, it's gonna throw a rod because you don't have
- 22:33any oil in it. And you really don't have enough money to go buy
- 22:37another car. So what do you do? You make sure that you maintain
- 22:42that car because that car is vital in your everyday living. You are vinal.
- 22:52So you need to take care of this temple. And you need to
- 23:00to read. You need to read. They say that you've got high blood
- 23:04pressure and they've got you on this medicine, and they have you on this
- 23:08medicine. Well have you read up? Have you read that little piece that
- 23:14they put on your your when you go pick up your medicine is a segment
- 23:19out of the PDR. It says that this medicine does this, this,
- 23:23and this and these are the adverse reactions. Have you read any of that
- 23:29or do you just take the medicine? I took truth liberatory. It made
- 23:37my tongue soll. It made my tongue swell tremendously, and it could have
- 23:45it could have blocked my passage of breathing. But if I hadn't gone and
- 23:52taken all of these medicines aside and did one medicine at a time until I
- 23:59came up on that medicine that made my tongue swell, then I read what
- 24:03does what are some of the contraindications? That's one of us when we the
- 24:11important information that they want us to know is always in a book. It's
- 24:18always in a book. It requires you to read. When you don't read,
- 24:23then it becomes a detriment to you. That's what I believe. That
- 24:33is so true. That is so true. And I guess as we're both
- 24:41in the medical field, so as a medical professional, what and you know,
- 24:48we sometimes are our worst, We are the worst patients at times.
- 24:52But just for anybody as a medical professional, what do you what what is
- 25:00that one piece of advice that you would say be in touch with you,
- 25:06be in touch with you. So as a woman that is before menopause,
- 25:15we are still having our cycles, our minstrual cycles. So that woman at
- 25:22the end of that cycle should do a self rest examination. If you are
- 25:27fib orcistic, you should know that that month, as long as it's moving
- 25:33and it's not attached, you're okay. But you still need to get in
- 25:37your mammograms. For me, I found my mass and it was a mass
- 25:48and it didn't move, and I quickly, I will do it next month.
- 25:55But I quickly went to my doctor. He felt it had the mammogram
- 26:02and the ultrasound it indeed was a sizeable mass. So the doctor said,
- 26:11my surgeon said, we're going to do a double mastectomy. No, we're
- 26:18not. My thought, and he said, so when are we going to
- 26:23do it? And I can I don't want to say I can be indignant,
- 26:27but I'm pretty strong headed. And I said to him, I have
- 26:33not prayed and I have not fasted. I have not heard what God wants
- 26:38me to do, and I'll get back to you on this. So he
- 26:45gave me two days and two days are fast and two early mornings. It
- 26:52was so soft. Nowly I heard clearly, I've got it. That's all
- 27:03I said. I've got it. When I went back on Thursday, he
- 27:08said, what are we going to do? I said, a uepec to
- 27:11me, that's that difference of working in the medical field, because you can
- 27:17use terms that theyre going to look at you like, what do you know?
- 27:22And that's exactly what he did. He said, do you know what
- 27:25a lumpectomy is? And I said, I probably have typed more than you've
- 27:29done, and I probably have. And he said well what if? I
- 27:34said, well, we'll deal with the what if after you removed this.
- 27:41So he said when do you want it done? If God tells you to
- 27:45do something, he's not giving you. He's not asking you to wait months.
- 27:52He wants you to do it expeditiously now. And so when he said
- 27:57when do you want it done? I said tomorrow, which is on a
- 28:00Friday. He said, well, let's see what my schedule looks like,
- 28:06and his schedule was open. So he went in. He removed the mask,
- 28:12he removed three lymph glands under my arm and I had to wait ten
- 28:18days thereafter. When it came back, he said, if I showed you
- 28:25these results, would you know how to read them. You're asking me a
- 28:30foolish question. Absolutely, so he laid them on the desk. It read
- 28:37that all of the cancer cells were encapsulated, which means that they're inside of
- 28:45the mask, and the three lymph glands that they took under my arm showed
- 28:51no evidence of metastatic disease. So that meant that it had not gone anywhere.
- 28:56Because I did what God said care he told me he had it.
- 29:03I gotta what is it? We walked by faith and knock by sight.
- 29:07Right, I didn't know he knock by sight. Uh huh. So he
- 29:11he told me I got it, and he did, and it hadn't gone
- 29:18any further. So then he said, well, I want you to take
- 29:22chemo and radiation, and I asked what type of chemo and what he said
- 29:30would cause blood clots. I said no, and he said, well will
- 29:36you take the radiation? I will, Yes, I will take the radiation.
- 29:42So I had thirty treatments of radiation. It sped up my hair turning
- 29:48gray, and it caused this space in my teeth that I never had before.
- 29:52But you know what, I still have both of the girls. Okay,
- 29:57I didn't have to lose anything go back in and have It's just you
- 30:04have to You just have to be in tune with your body. It's just
- 30:11imperative. Yeah, well we're gonna we're gonna wrap up. But what I
- 30:21want you to do, it's just let us know when we can see you
- 30:27Me Tea with Lady D. What night and what time? And also when
- 30:33can we expect for your writings to be published or are there already published?
- 30:40No, you Me and Tea with Lady D. It's on Facebook on Thursdays
- 30:47five thirty Pacific, seven thirty Central a thirty Eastern, and that is you
- 30:56can send me a friend request. It's under Donna Rankins R A N K

- 31:22and Tea with Lady D. Instagram is Lady D m R twenty eight J.
- 31:33And it's the same for Thread Lady D m R twenty eight J.
- 31:45Now I want you to just I know we're coming close, so I just
- 31:49want you to give us just one reading so that the audience can get a
- 31:55feel for what they're gonna get when your work is published. Merciful Jesus at
- 32:04the end of my fast, which is now don't do that, merciful Jesus,
- 32:07at the end of my ninety day fast, which is in May Pentecost
- 32:15Sunday is May nineteenth. By the end of May, I hope to have
- 32:22be able to say, nadlie, this is it, This is it,
- 32:25and the title of it is in French. It is called Triloge. It
- 32:32will be a black book with smoky, steamy letters, and inside of it
- 32:40will be three different books which will be you and me, more please and
- 32:49longing. And it is romantic, erotic, but very tastefully done. Because
- 32:58why I'm a lady. Okay, this is lady always it is. I
- 33:08knew it was you. This is the title of it. I sleep with
- 33:15the TV on, but that was not what I heard behind me. I
- 33:21heard your gruffy voice, and I knew it was you. I felt you
- 33:27right here behind me. It was not my pillows down the center of my
- 33:31bed that I back up to. It was you. I felt you,
- 33:39your breath on my shoulder, the way you embraced me and cradled my breast
- 33:46in your hand. I knew it was you, causing me to slowly turn
- 33:53over facing you, and it's as you kissed me on my foe. Yet
- 34:00I smiled as I raised my face to meet your lips, I knew it
- 34:07was you. My temperature was rising, causing your temperature to rise. I
- 34:14felt you. I knew it was you. The way you stroked me,
- 34:22compelling me to place my hand on your chest, only you. I knew
- 34:30it was you. Ever so deliberate, you stroked my thigh, pulling it
- 34:38up and over you. I felt you, in all of your magnificence.
- 34:45As you went to your safe place inside of me. I felt you,
- 34:53and I knew it was you. Then there and there we became one,
- 35:01making love as though it was our first time. I know what is mine,
- 35:08and I felt you, knowing it was you. You were so in
- 35:15tune with me that you felt me stop moving but gripping, gripping, Oh
- 35:24how I was gripping you. I felt you, and I knew it was
- 35:32you. Then it happened and I could not help it, and you did
- 35:39not care. You felt a warmth wash over you, and then you released.
- 35:47I felt you. I wish you were here, I wish you were
- 35:53these pillows. Yet I knew it was you who well mhm, yeah,
- 36:13as soon as Patrice, Yes, past past the water in a fan,
- 36:19I'm trying to find these are coming. Yeh look yes girl, yes,
- 36:30girl, yes, grab your pearls. Girl, you see your pol Oh
- 36:37my god, ms Donna, Mama, Donna. I thank you so much
