  Dustin White: How are you, Marvin? I'm doing well.

  Marvin Cash: As always? Just, uh, trying to stay out of trouble and, uh, you've

  been traveling around a little bit, but, uh, you're kind of back in the saddle
• 0:19
  in central Wyoming.

  Dustin White: Yeah, just a couple days, uh, off to dip down
• 0:24
  south. Uh, Jamie, my wife and I with two friends
• 0:27
  went down to Colorado to, uh, you
• 0:30
  know, first watch our browns get beat up by the
• 0:33
  cowboys and, uh, at a browns backers bar.
• 0:36
  And then, um, yeah, went to a concert after that. So,
• 0:39
  yeah, it just took a couple days, uh, to dip down south
• 0:42
  and, yeah, uh, back at it.

  Marvin Cash: Yeah. So how was the Leo sear concert?

  Dustin White: Yeah, as enjoyable as expected.

  As expected.

  Marvin Cash: So, you know, it's kind of funny. Looked, uh, at your weather
• 0:58
  and, you know, you're kind of getting that kind of typical late summer,
• 1:01
  early fall, central Wyoming weather where it's kind of cooling
• 1:03
  off a little bit, but you're getting kind of windy days, you know,
• 1:06
  no real rain. What are you seeing on the water?
• 1:10
  Dustin White: Been a little
• 1:12
  hatches. I mean, we are. We are getting the
• 1:15
  hatches that you would expect to see
• 1:17
  in terms of, you know, tricos in the morning, uh,
• 1:20
  afternoon, um, a good cattus
• 1:23
  hatch. Um, and then, um, you
• 1:26
  know, some, some modest blue wing
• 1:29
  hatches. Um, the degree
• 1:31
  of health, uh, of those hatches
• 1:35
  has been what's been very day to day.
• 1:37
  So we're getting some days where it's just a
• 1:40
  prolific cat as hatch and there's heads
• 1:43
  of fish, uh, in that late afternoon, early evening
• 1:46
  timeframe, just everywhere. And then, uh,
• 1:49
  you go out the next day and
• 1:52
  it's significantly reduced, uh,
• 1:55
  kind of waiting on that, that cool off to hit us. Um,
• 1:58
  we're waiting for flows to kind of drop
• 2:01
  a little bit more on the reef and that, that should help that.
• 2:04
  But yeah, having, having a little more
• 2:06
  temperate, um, you know, temps,
• 2:09
  some more mild temps, uh, is really, really going to
• 2:12
  help us. Having a little more cloud cover come through is really, really going
• 2:15
  to help us. But we still have some
• 2:18
  remarkably solid fishing, um, on
• 2:21
  the horn, still very
• 2:23
  grassy. Um, and, uh,
• 2:26
  you know, that can pose a little bit of problems, especially if folks are
• 2:29
  wanting to streamer fish. You know, you're raking in a lot of
• 2:32
  grass. Um, but in terms of bugs,
• 2:34
  you know, uh, cattus definitely are working
• 2:37
  well. Uh, see, PMD is actually some kind of
• 2:40
  late summer PMD's, uh, coming off there. Um,
• 2:43
  sow bugs have, uh, as always, have been
• 2:46
  really, really effective. Moving to the
• 2:48
  mile trichos, definitely in the morning have
• 2:51
  been, ah, the standard fare. Still
• 2:54
  eating Amelia, still eating caddis. Um,
• 2:57
  we've had some smaller to
• 2:59
  medium sized fish eating pretty well on the
• 3:02
  surface. But the big mile
• 3:05
  fish that folks want to go there to target, they're not
• 3:08
  quite looking up yet. So we're still a
• 3:11
  few days out from that, um, again, looking
• 3:14
  for that, uh, uh, that, that temp drop
• 3:17
  to, to come into play. And we should start seeing some, some
• 3:19
  productive fishing on that front. Uh, uh,
• 3:22
  in terms of the reef, you know, we're starting to fish some of the lower
• 3:25
  sections of it. The upper reef, pretty mossy,
• 3:28
  pretty grassy. Um, um, but have had some,
• 3:31
  you know, remarkably solid streamer days. Some, some
• 3:34
  really, really enjoyable streamer days. Uh, uh, the
• 3:37
  grass in that mid, lower section has just
• 3:40
  been pretty, um, thin. So that's been
• 3:43
  really, really helpful there. And again, day, uh, to
• 3:46
  day is a little different, but we've had some days where the dry fly
• 3:48
  action has just been remarkably productive,
• 3:51
  followed by a day where it's you look and there's
• 3:54
  not a whole lot of, um,
• 3:57
  heads to be found. But, um,
• 4:00
  again, we're just around the corner from
• 4:03
  that happening.

  Dustin White: And this one's gotta be the sunset grill. Not to be

  confused with the, uh, uh, boomtown

  and the sunrise plaza that we kinda highlighted, uh,

  a couple m months ago. But the sunset grilled is an
• 4:42
  alcove. And if you're getting off the mile or
• 4:45
  off the reef and want just a great
• 4:48
  hole in the wall divey bar, but
• 4:51
  with great service, uh, there. And,
• 4:53
  uh, in my opinion, one of the best greasy burgers
• 4:56
  there is to find, it's definitely at the sunset grill.

  So, you know, it's right off 220, um, almost
• 5:01
  immediately after as you pull out of the gray reef or leave
• 5:04
  Alcova, um, just a great spot. I mean,
• 5:07
  it's, you know, dollar bills that someone's
• 5:10
  scrawled some sort of message, uh, both
• 5:13
  appropriate and inappropriate on it and tuck
• 5:16
  it to the wall there. Uh, uh, it's, it's that sort of the
• 5:19
  spot, but the folks there are just super
• 5:22
  friendly. Um, um, like I said, great little hole in
• 5:25
  the wall food. Um, uh, and, uh, you know, if you want
• 5:28
  a really cheap, uh, uh, tall boy, pbr.
• 5:31
  That's. That's the spot to do it.

  Marvin Cash: Yeah. Just a slightly longer walk home, right?

  Dustin White: Yeah, it's not a walk home sort of spot. You know, if you.

  If you have a little much. Uh, we got the windy
• 5:43
  waters, uh, you know, rv park, uh, across the street
• 5:46
  that, uh, our friend Steve and Julie own. And,
• 5:49
  uh, they'll host you for the night if, uh,
• 5:51
  you can't get home safely. So, ah, it's a great
• 5:54
  little spot. Cool, um, little area.

  And, uh, I definitely recommend getting the beer battered
• 6:00
  french fries, uh, with your burger. Ah,
• 6:03
  it's definitely an experience that, uh, everyone
• 6:06
  should try, uh, as you leave the reef and leave the
• 6:08
  mile.

  Marvin Cash: Yeah, there you go. You know, you haven't lived until you've, uh,
• 6:12
  slept, uh, overnight in a trash bag on a picnic table.

  Dustin White: Exactly. And that's the spot to do it. They'll take good care
• 6:18
  of you.

  Marvin Cash: Well, there you go. Well, you know, as we get on the other side of Labor Day, I
• 6:22
  know that the bug now, uh, has their kind of
• 6:25
  non high season hours, right?
• 6:28
  Dustin White: Yeah. Yeah. We're back to our normal, typical
• 6:31
  business hours. We're not open Sundays. Uh,
• 6:34
  Saturdays close at 04:00 uh, throughout the
• 6:37
  week, 9930 to 530, if I
• 6:39
  believe. Um, I actually don't know the start time. I'm on the
• 6:42
  water every day, uh, when that's occurring. But,
• 6:45
  yeah, we're in kind of the standard business hours there.
• 6:48
  But folks, uh, want to give the shop a
• 6:51
  call that, uh, they'll. They'll be happy
• 6:54
  to acquiesce any sort of request you have, whether
• 6:57
  that's booking a guide trip or help for, you
• 6:59
  know, what. What hatch is occurring, what flies you need
• 7:02
  getting you out of to get on the water. We're happy to do that.

  Marvin Cash: Yeah. And so, you know, how many, uh, I guess more
• 7:08
  days do you have before you kind of pivot, uh, right before
• 7:11
  the holidays and head up and chase steelhead?

  Dustin White: Yeah, I'm pretty full through October,
• 7:17
  so it's still busy. We get a
• 7:20
  little bit of a late summer, uh, dip.
• 7:23
  I wouldn't even say it's a lull. Just I can actually have a
• 7:26
  five day workweek rather than a seven day
• 7:29
  work week or six day workweek. Um, so we're back
• 7:31
  into the swing of busy stuff. So it's
• 7:34
  kind of, you know, back into a grind, you know, pushing through
• 7:37
  all the way through October. Um, um, but, um,
• 7:40
  um, as, as, you know, you've experienced before, this is
• 7:43
  such a fun time of year to fish. Um, um, you know, we're
• 7:46
  stripping streamers. We're, you know, we're throwing hoppers. Uh,
• 7:49
  uh, we're throwing drys. There's just a ton of
• 7:52
  variety, uh, uh, just around the corner and right
• 7:54
  now. So, you know, we're legitimately days away
• 7:57
  from, from that kind of really kicking into full
• 8:00
  effect.
• 8:01
  Marvin Cash: Yeah. And good drinking weather, too.
• 8:04
  Dustin White: Exactly. It's real my, you know, once we get that mildest, get a little
• 8:07
  cloud cover coming in, you know, really pleasant
• 8:10
  days on the water with, uh, uh, just to be
• 8:12
  out there with a friend. Have a beer, uh uh, catch some good fish. Um
• 8:15
  um, it's. Yeah, it's. It's an enjoyable time, for sure.

  Marvin Cash: Yeah. Opens up the dark liquor verticals, uh uh, at the
• 8:21
  bar. So, uh, certainly
• 8:24
  does.
• 8:24
  Dustin White: Yeah, certainly, uh, does.
• 8:25
  Marvin Cash: And so, as I always say, folks, you owe it to yourself to get out there
• 8:28
  and catch a few tight lines, everybody. Tight lines.
