- 0:00Bag alert, bag alert, bag alert, bag alert, bag alert, bag alert folks, that's right.
- 0:07We have to end the week with another bag alert.
- 0:11I predicted it.
- 0:12I called it.
- 0:14You already know we're going to have to go over it.
- 0:17Okay.
- 0:18Creed Humphrey resets the center market and we got to ask a few questions.
- 0:22We really do.
- 0:23We really got to ask a few questions.
- 0:24All right.
- 0:25Is there more pressure on Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson disease?
- 0:29Let me know.
- 0:30Let me know.
- 0:31Okay.
- 0:32Should the 49ers value extending Trent Williams or Brandy Niu?
- 0:35Now that one, that's going to be a controversial one, but it's okay.
- 0:38We got to go.
- 0:39We have to talk about it.
- 0:40Okay.
- 0:41As well as the Omar Khan reads to try to upgrade the receiver position to keep this very light
- 0:47and we're going to keep this very, very, very, very condensed.
- 0:51Okay.
- 0:52Because we just gave y'all, okay, almost an hour episode.
- 0:57We're just going to keep this one real light just to end the week right.
- 1:01Okay.
- 1:02All of this and more on the 27th episode of the football junkies podcast.
- 1:07I'm your host.
- 1:08Okay.
- 1:09You're a GM who still does not have a job right now, but currently is taking interviews
- 1:15and is also giving advice to current GMs right now.
- 1:19Three teams.
- 1:20Okay.
- 1:21Two of those teams are super bowl caliber teams.
- 1:23Okay.
- 1:24As well as your chief, the head of the table, Bagrod Domes, as well as your chief bag meteorologists.
- 1:33You already know what I'm getting ready to say.
- 1:34I am your host, Kale.
- 1:37Let's lock in.
- 2:07All right, folks, let's just get into the information.
- 2:13Let's talk about the bag alerts.
- 2:15Okay.
- 2:16We're not going to keep this episode very long and drawn out.
- 2:19We're going to hit everything that we need to hit and then we're going to let it go.
- 2:23Okay.
- 2:24So, Queen Humphrey Center for the Chiefs.
- 2:27Okay.
- 2:28Super Bowl reigning chiefs.
- 2:29Okay.
- 2:30I have to put that in there and for it to be signed a four year 72 million dollar deal
- 2:36to stay with the chiefs, of course.
- 2:38So let's just go over the financials.
- 2:40Okay.
- 2:41So he gets 50 million in total guarantees and he's making about 18 million a year according
- 2:46to who?
- 2:47Spot right.
- 2:48Shout out to spot right now when we break things down, right?
- 2:50So these are stats from last season.
- 2:52Of course, there's no stats for this season because season hasn't even started yet, but
- 2:55supposed to be starting in two weeks.
- 2:57Right.
- 2:58So he was first in past blocking snaps.
- 3:00He was first in when it comes to pressure, pressure rates.
- 3:04He was first in one on one pressure rates.
- 3:07He was seventh in sack rates and he was third average.
- 3:11I can't even speak.
- 3:13He was third when it comes to average time to pressure.
- 3:15Okay.
- 3:16According to NFL pro, there's a lot of new staff.
- 3:19So it's still a little bit of a learning curve with everything, but I'm going to learn
- 3:24your own learn.
- 3:25So when we look at it, this was very respected.
- 3:31Lee Humphrey is definitely a top five center in the league.
- 3:36I mean, let's be real here.
- 3:38It was expected he was going to reset the market.
- 3:43Same thing with people like Tyler Linderbaum and all the other really good centers that
- 3:48are in the league.
- 3:49So I mean, granted the market force centers aren't that expensive.
- 3:56So it's a little bit easier to digest compared to the receiver market, the quarterback market,
- 4:04the patch rusher market, the quarterback market, all those different types of markets.
- 4:10So all in all, it's a really good deal.
- 4:13Creed Humphrey has definitely been an anchor for that offensive line since being drafted
- 4:19by the chiefs if we can be real here.
- 4:22So all in all, it was a great signing.
- 4:26It really was.
- 4:27I mean, 18 million a year.
- 4:30That's good.
- 4:31That's really good.
- 4:32Now, if I can throw in my bag of diamonds hat for a quick second, do I believe someone
- 4:38is going to crest that 20 million pretty soon?
- 4:41Yes.
- 4:42I think it's going to be either Tyler Linderbaum or I think Ryan Kelly is probably going to
- 4:47get one more big payday.
- 4:49I do.
- 4:50I do believe that because there, how can I say this without trying to be disrespectful?
- 4:57Centers are they aren't as valued as other positions, but when a team has a premier,
- 5:04you know, great center on their team, most likely they're going to stay there for the
- 5:09rest of their career.
- 5:10Right?
- 5:11It's rare that you see centers, you know, really great centers actually, you know, leave,
- 5:17you know, leave the team that they, you know, that they were drafted to or, you know, signed
- 5:21to or whatever the case may be.
- 5:23Right?
- 5:24And, you know, this is, this is what it is.
- 5:27This is what it is.
- 5:28Creed Humphrey has been one of the best centers since coming into the league.
- 5:33You are talking about someone who has been consistent.
- 5:35You're talking about somebody who, you know, has, has done it all.
- 5:40You really, you rarely see him, you know, give up, give up on plays.
- 5:45You rarely do.
- 5:46He is consistent.
- 5:47He holds his own against some of the best interior defensive linemen and he does it well.
- 5:53So this is just him, you know, getting fairly compensated for that.
- 5:57So congratulations to him.
- 5:59Now on to the juicy topics.
- 6:01Okay.
- 6:02This is a topic that I've definitely been thinking about because let's be real here.
- 6:08Aaron Rodgers has been getting a little bit more slack and a little bit more leeway compared
- 6:14to Aaron Rodgers, especially from certain people who will remain anonymous.
- 6:21Let's just call it for what it is, right?
- 6:23Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson, you know, two quarterbacks who are from the older generation
- 6:30of quarterbacks who are still trying to hang on, who still feel like they can play at the
- 6:35league level.
- 6:36And that's perfectly fine.
- 6:37It really is.
- 6:38However, I feel like we are diminishing one quarterback and continuing to praise another
- 6:45quarterback when that other quarterback has not done anything since, you know, changing
- 6:51to another team.
- 6:52Now, granted, granted, he could not control the injury.
- 6:56He couldn't.
- 6:57But at the same time, we are hyping him up and putting him on a level that he has not
- 7:04even reached in a few years, right, compared to Russell Wilson, who basically, you know,
- 7:12it's just, you know, just a complete media beatdown, you know, oh, he's not supposed
- 7:18to be calm.
- 7:19He's not supposed to be this down the other.
- 7:22Just like, bro, it's the preseason, right?
- 7:24It'll be different if this was, you know, the regular season and, you know, your and
- 7:30the team is on like a three game losing streak or whatever, then it's like, okay, you needed,
- 7:36you need a, there need to be some urgency in your voice.
- 7:38You need to be some urgency in your tone in the message that you're trying to convey,
- 7:44you know, not only to the media, but to the team, right?
- 7:48And you know, Russell Wilson has always been somebody who can control the media.
- 7:53He always does.
- 7:54He's not someone that uses his emotions.
- 7:57He's not someone that, you know, you don't know how things are going to be when it comes
- 8:02to reporters and different types of things.
- 8:04He is someone who you may have to try to decipher exactly what he's saying, but he's always
- 8:10going to be, he's always going to handle the media thing very well.
- 8:14That's one thing that you can't take away from Russell Wilson.
- 8:17Whereas the other person, you don't know exactly what you're getting, right?
- 8:22You don't know if you're getting someone that's going to be professional or you're going to
- 8:25get someone, you know, has a 10-4 hat on.
- 8:28That's just what it is, right?
- 8:30And you know, when we look at their numbers, right, their numbers are somewhat similar.
- 8:36They're very close, honestly.
- 8:38So let's just look at them.
- 8:40Okay.
- 8:41So Russell Wilson's last full season, 2023, of course, last season, he had 297 completions,
- 8:48447 attempts, 3070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, eight interceptions, a 98 pass, a 10-4 pass,
- 8:55a rating, and he averaged 6.9 yards per attempt.
- 9:00Cool, right?
- 9:02Now let's look at Errodgers, okay?
- 9:04Errodgers last season was 2022, okay?
- 9:08350 completions, 542 attempts, 3,695 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, a
- 9:1791.1 pass rating, and he averaged 6.8 yards per attempt.
- 9:23Now, the only difference, honestly speaking, in their numbers is Errodgers probably threw
- 9:32for more passing yards, just a few more passing yards than what Russell Wilson did, right?
- 9:38But they have the same identical touchdowns, except Errodgers threw more interceptions,
- 9:44and their pass rating is somewhat close, right?
- 9:51And whether we want to imagine it or not, Russell Wilson, he didn't, the last season
- 10:00was not necessarily a bad season, it was just a, it didn't meet the standard that we always
- 10:08see when it comes to Russell Wilson, right?
- 10:10Compared to any other quarterback, right?
- 10:15Like we're comparing Russell Wilson's stats from last year to, I don't know, Daniel Jones,
- 10:21Trevor Lawrence, or you know, some no name or whatever the case may be, of course Russell
- 10:26Wilson's numbers are going to look a whole lot better compared to who, the other person,
- 10:30right?
- 10:31And so I feel like, you know, there's more pressure on Errodger than it is on Russell
- 10:39Wilson, because why?
- 10:41The Jets moved a lot to get Errodgers, not to mention, they also got his old, you know,
- 10:50offensive coordinator, his little towel boy, and then they got some of his receivers, Alan
- 10:57Luzard and Randall Cobb, and you know, they brought all of those people in with him, right?
- 11:04You had all this, you know, this big media buzz, you know, they were on hard knocks and
- 11:09you know, all these, you know, different types of things.
- 11:12So the pressure is on Errodgers, you know, to show something.
- 11:17It is, because granted, they've done a lot.
- 11:21Well, I wouldn't, to my standards, I don't feel like they've done a lot, but in their
- 11:26eyes, they feel like they've done a lot for, you know, for this team, right?
- 11:30From trying to, you know, rebuild the offensive line, and you know, they get the left tackle
- 11:36from Penn State, and then they get Tyrone, Smith, and one now, they're trying to invest
- 11:42more into the offensive line, you know, try to protect Errodgers, and you know, they're
- 11:46just trying to do a few different things just to, you know, try to only make things better
- 11:51for Errodgers, but somewhat try to take the load off of Errodgers.
- 11:56But at the end of the day here, folks, you know, a lot has been moved for Errodgers.
- 12:02A lot, you know, the expectations were set high for Errodgers, right?
- 12:07You, you know, there were a lot of people that were saying, oh, Errodgers are going
- 12:10to, you know, take them to a Super Bowl and this, then the other, and blah, blah, blah,
- 12:15blah, and it's just like, no, that's not a guarantee.
- 12:18It's never a guarantee, right?
- 12:20And you know, Errodgers is in a place where, you know, either one or two things are going
- 12:28to happen.
- 12:29Either you're going to have a dynamic season that's going to go down in the history books
- 12:35or you're going to have a season where everyone is basically going to be like, bro, just retire,
- 12:40just retire, just, just, you know, find, find a little place on the beach and relax for
- 12:46the rest of your life.
- 12:47Okay.
- 12:48Sure, you can still throw the ball, you know, to some kids in the neighborhood or whatever
- 12:52the case may be.
- 12:53But, you know, as far as you playing, you know, professional football, suiting up every Sunday
- 12:58and playing, do not do that, right?
- 13:00That is what is, and in some ways, it's in somewhat of the same situation for Russell
- 13:06Wilson as well, because, you know, the Steelers signed him to a vet minimum, right?
- 13:12And the Broncos basically were like, to hell with it, we'll eat, you know, the biggest
- 13:19dead cap hit in NFL history, just so we never see you again, right?
- 13:24And granted, some of that was because of Sean Payton and, you know, his vision and whatnot.
- 13:30But I feel like, you know, the temperature in the locker room for the Broncos, when
- 13:35it came to Russell Wilson, started to hit a point that, you know, if you, if you were
- 13:42around when the Legion of Boom, you know, was like, was like really up there and a lot
- 13:47of people were talking about them and they were supposed to be like the next big dynasty.
- 13:51And you know, the whole debacle with the, you know, with the Super Bowling whatnot, it
- 13:55sort of gave you somewhat of a similar vibe, but it didn't.
- 13:59And so, you know, here we are, right?
- 14:03You know, Russ is trying to change his image.
- 14:06He's trying to show people that, hey, I'm still the Russell Wilson of old.
- 14:09I can still do this, this and this, but it's like, are you?
- 14:14Are you?
- 14:15Because it's easier.
- 14:16It's easier for us to trick our minds and to tell ourselves that we are the same person
- 14:22that we were, you know, the person that was able to do, you know, all these various different
- 14:27things.
- 14:29But the fact of the matter is there comes a time and point where we all have to have
- 14:33that honest, honest discussion with ourselves that, hey, I've lost my step, right?
- 14:39I lost a little pep in my step.
- 14:41I don't know how much I've lost, but I've lost a little bit.
- 14:44Okay.
- 14:45I've lost a little bit of, I can't do this anymore, or I can only do it a few times or
- 14:49whatever the case may be, right?
- 14:51And that's perfectly fine.
- 14:52But, you know, the pressure, the pressure is on the both of them to show something, right?
- 15:00Because Russ is trying to fight for another big deal, another opportunity to be a starting
- 15:05quarterback.
- 15:06Aaron Rodgers is somewhat finding of a spot to see, you know, if he's not going to get
- 15:12pushed into retirement at this point.
- 15:15That's what it is.
- 15:17That's really what it is.
- 15:18It's nothing, you know, super hard or super complex to understand or whatnot.
- 15:23It's none of those things.
- 15:25And to any person that says that, you know, there's no pressure on Aaron Rodgers or your
- 15:28liar, the Jets moved having an Earth to get him.
- 15:32They did.
- 15:33And they carried on some of his teammates with him as well and some of the coaching staff
- 15:38as well with him as well.
- 15:40A lot of players decided to go to the Jets because they were thinking, oh, with Aaron
- 15:46Rodgers being there, this is going to change everything.
- 15:50And so far hasn't lived up to those expectations nor those standards.
- 15:55So again, I will continue to say that the Jets are not a Super Bowl team.
- 16:00Now that defense, that defense is a very potent defense.
- 16:04That's a defense that you don't want to see in January.
- 16:08Okay.
- 16:09And when it comes to that offense, I just don't see it.
- 16:11I just don't.
- 16:13Even with the decision of Aaron Rodgers not even taking at least a few snaps in the pre-season
- 16:18game, I would have had him do it because he needs to get into a stride going into the
- 16:24season instead of just, you know, you not knowing exactly what version you're getting
- 16:30out of it.
- 16:32You just need to do that.
- 16:33If Patrick Mahomes can go in for a few drives, if Jarragov can do it, if every other starting
- 16:40quarterback can do it, what is it?
- 16:43What is the exception for you, Aaron?
- 16:45What is the exception for you?
- 16:47You haven't.
- 16:48Okay, granted, you've won a bunch of MVPs, but you haven't won a championship lately.
- 16:53You haven't even though you had an opportunity to do it, but you choked that away.
- 16:57Right?
- 16:58So exactly what makes you so high and mighty that you are above, you know, taking a few
- 17:05snaps and building that chemistry with your players compared to just saying, I'm okay.
- 17:13And we, I don't need to do that because you know why?
- 17:15Because I'm Aaron Rodgers and I don't need to do that.
- 17:18I'm okay.
- 17:19I'm him.
- 17:20No, no, you need this more than everybody else does.
- 17:24You do.
- 17:25And it's okay if you don't want to admit it.
- 17:27It's perfectly fine, but you do need it.
- 17:29Now, moving on to the other topics that are going on.
- 17:34We're actually breezing by this pretty good, but I keep telling you guys this is going
- 17:40to be a pretty short episode.
- 17:41It's not going to be drawn out.
- 17:44Just wanted to hit all the focal points.
- 17:46And you know, if anything crazy happens, you know, of course, we'll, you know, talk about
- 17:50it.
- 17:51And of course, it'll be an episode about it, but you know, just want to keep things fairly
- 17:54light for you guys, but you know, there was definitely a question that came up that I
- 18:01saw.
- 18:02I think it was either on Twitter or Instagram and it basically asked, well, I think it was
- 18:07talking about Trent Williams, right?
- 18:10And you know, there are people that were saying, Oh, no, they don't need to do anything with
- 18:14Trent Williams to stand the other blah, blah, blah.
- 18:16And I'm just like, do you guys not know who Trent Williams is?
- 18:22You guys not get who Trent Williams is?
- 18:25Trent Williams is going to go down in history as one of the best, one of the greatest left
- 18:31tackles in NFL history.
- 18:33He is going to rub elbows with Jonathan Ogden.
- 18:37If you don't know who Jonathan Ogden is, YouTube him.
- 18:41YouTube him.
- 18:43You'll see.
- 18:44And you have Brandon Iewik, who basically is this disgruntled receiver who feels like
- 18:52you know, he's being screwed over when it's like, bro, the team originally offered you
- 18:5726.
- 18:58Okay, cool.
- 19:00You wasn't, you feel like you were worth more than that.
- 19:02That's perfectly fine.
- 19:03I'm not going to argue with you on that.
- 19:05Then you go from that to, you know, you requested train.
- 19:09Okay, cool.
- 19:10The 49ers, you know, take call from the Patriots, the Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 19:16Cool.
- 19:17The Patriots were offering you 32 million.
- 19:20You didn't want that.
- 19:21The Browns were offering a Mario Cooper and a little bit of money.
- 19:25You didn't want that either.
- 19:27You keep teetering and tottering.
- 19:29When if you want to go to Pittsburgh or not, same thing with Washington as well with their
- 19:33whole debacle now with Jahan Dotson getting traded, right?
- 19:38So as right, you cannot continue to say, you know, you can't continue to have, you know,
- 19:45report you wants to stay here.
- 19:47You know, he moved this family here and this and the other blah, blah, blah.
- 19:51And that's the case and sign the papers.
- 19:54Sign the papers.
- 19:55Why are you taking so long to come to a resolution?
- 19:59Either you want to be here or you want to go somewhere else.
- 20:02It's a simple decision.
- 20:04It's a yes or no.
- 20:06That's it.
- 20:07It's not hard.
- 20:08So I don't understand why the world has this thing, you know, basically drawn out going
- 20:13into the regular season.
- 20:15I don't get it.
- 20:16The 49ers have literally been over backwards, forwards, side to side, left to right, spin
- 20:25around, do the spinaroni and more for Brandon I.U.
- 20:29They've done a lot for Brandon I.U.
- 20:32And you know, they're probably, you know, frustrated to the point where they're just
- 20:36like to hell with it, to hell with it.
- 20:39Is it really worth trying to keep him?
- 20:42If it means that, you know, we're basically having to go through hell and high water just
- 20:46to please this fool in my eyes.
- 20:50And this is just me personally.
- 20:51I know I'm probably going to get a whole lot of slack for it.
- 20:54To me, it is easier to replace and to find a Brandon I.U. tire than it is a Trent Williams.
- 21:02I'm going to say that again because you probably didn't get that.
- 21:05So I'm going to say it a little bit closer in the microphone so you can really hear exactly
- 21:09what I'm saying.
- 21:11It is easier to find a Brandon I.U. type player than it is a Trent Williams.
- 21:19Okay.
- 21:20And the reason why I say that is because you can somewhat mold a player into the skill set
- 21:28that Brandon I.U.
- 21:29has, right?
- 21:31Trent Williams, that is natural.
- 21:34That is God giving ability with Trent Williams.
- 21:38You are talking about somebody who when he was drafted to Washington, he was an anchor
- 21:45on that offensive line.
- 21:46And I'm talking about an offensive line that didn't have a lot of star power, that didn't
- 21:51have a lot of upside.
- 21:53He was the upside, right?
- 21:55And, you know, of course things happen with them and they handled a situation, you know,
- 22:02the wrong way.
- 22:03And he basically won it out and he went to San Francisco and he made, you know, San Francisco's
- 22:08run game, pass game, just a whole entire offense, a whole lot better, right?
- 22:14And so this was expected for him to ask for more money once Christian Derisaw got paid.
- 22:20A little bit more of an easier process to figure out a, you know, figure out a way with
- 22:26Trent Williams' deal because he already has a preexisting deal.
- 22:31So all in all, he probably just want more guaranteed money just to up the, you know,
- 22:36the overall number, which is a little bit more easier to do compared to Brandon Iewick
- 22:41where you're basically, okay, the offer is 26 million.
- 22:44Okay, he doesn't want 26 million.
- 22:46Okay, we're going to up the offer by 2 million.
- 22:47Okay, he still doesn't want, okay.
- 22:48We're going to up the offer 2 more million.
- 22:50Okay, he still doesn't want it.
- 22:51Okay, we're going to up the offer 3 more million, right?
- 22:54It's a lot easier to do something with Trent Williams than it is with Brandon Iewick, especially
- 22:59with reports coming out that basically the only thing that's stopping Brandon Iewick
- 23:04from inking this deal is he wants more guaranteed money at the end of his contract.
- 23:10Brother, brother, brother, brother, brother, brother.
- 23:14Nobody has that.
- 23:15Well, no, we'll actually know what no, I lied.
- 23:18There are some people that do have it, but even then, most of the times people don't
- 23:22even see the end of the contract.
- 23:24Most of the times they're traded by the third year, the second or third year of the contract.
- 23:28We're being real here.
- 23:30So again, as I've said before in multiple episodes prior to this one, something has to
- 23:39break at this point, right?
- 23:41You're traveling with the team.
- 23:43You're not wearing any of the gear.
- 23:45You look like you're not interested in the team.
- 23:48Go, go.
- 23:50No one is stopping you.
- 23:51No one is holding your hand and saying, Oh, Brandon, don't go, don't go.
- 23:56We miss you all so much.
- 23:58No one is saying that, bro.
- 24:00If you go and go somewhere, go somewhere because right now the team is trying to focus and
- 24:07try to prepare themselves for the gauntlet that they are going to, I can't even speak
- 24:12because I'm so upset for the gauntlet that they have to prepare themselves in order to
- 24:18get to the Super Bowl and to wait.
- 24:20They have to prepare themselves for that.
- 24:22And right now this story has basically been dragging on since the end of the last Super
- 24:28Bowl.
- 24:30It's drawn out.
- 24:33People are tired of it.
- 24:34People are talking about, people are tired of talking about it.
- 24:38People are tired of speculating about it.
- 24:41People are tired of just talking about various rumors.
- 24:44Either you're going to put your name on that piece of paper and stay with the San Francisco
- 24:4949ers and take that picture that everybody, that every single person does, or you're going
- 24:54to be holding up a jersey of another team during a press conference.
- 24:58It's simple as that.
- 25:00Simple as that.
- 25:01And if I'm Kyle Shanahan, I'm probably thinking the same thing.
- 25:04Listen, there's supposed to be a few good receivers that are going to be coming out next year.
- 25:08Guess what?
- 25:09We can get them.
- 25:10It won't hurt us.
- 25:11We won't lose the inch of sleep off of it at all compared to going through this foolishness
- 25:17with somebody who, you know, he's basically nitpicking at every single little thing and
- 25:23it's like, bro, to stop.
- 25:25Stop.
- 25:26Because even then, if, you know, when we look at the stats for, you know, for both Brandon
- 25:31Iewik and Trent Williams, right?
- 25:34Brandon Iewik was second in receiving yards on 10 plus air yard targets, right?
- 25:43He averaged 3.2 yards per route, which was, which was the fourth most in a single season
- 25:50since 2018.
- 25:51He gained 696 yards on intermediate targets, 101 more than any other receiver.
- 25:59Granted, he should be fairly compensated because he did have a great season.
- 26:04That was the best season of his career so far.
- 26:07And he does deserve to be fairly compensated, but it comes in time and point where a team
- 26:13has to make a decision.
- 26:15Either we have to pay you a little bit less just so we can be able to stay competitive
- 26:21or we just have to move on from you.
- 26:23That's just what it is.
- 26:25And the 49ers continue to try to buy a Super Bowl when it doesn't work like that.
- 26:31And I've said this in, I think the last, what was it, two episodes, either two episodes
- 26:35or three episodes ago, you can't make every single star player the highest paid.
- 26:40You can't reset the market for every single person.
- 26:42You just can't.
- 26:43They reset the market for Fred Warren.
- 26:45They reset the market for Nick Bosa.
- 26:48They reset the market for Kittle.
- 26:50They reset the market again for Christian McCaffrey.
- 26:53They're about to do it for Trent Williams.
- 26:55I think they also did it for Debo Samuel at that time.
- 26:58You know they're going to have to do it for Brock Purdy.
- 26:59At some point, the line has to be drawn in the same.
- 27:04It has to.
- 27:06It has to.
- 27:08And if he's not willing to comply, oh well, ship him.
- 27:12You won't lose an inch of sleep off of it.
- 27:15Ship him because you in the best time on this one, time on this one that I've ever heard
- 27:22was we want, what is it?
- 27:26We want not survivors.
- 27:29Was it participants?
- 27:30I think it's participants.
- 27:31We want participants, not hostages.
- 27:34That's what Mike Tomlin says.
- 27:36We want people that are going to participate and not hostages.
- 27:39So if you feel like you are a hostage in this situation, move somewhere else.
- 27:43Kick rocks.
- 27:44Now when we look at Trent Williams, you know, stats and whatnot, the 49ers have ran more
- 27:50to the left and have done this more frequently and more successfully since Trent Williams
- 27:58has been traded to the 49ers.
- 28:01And he's the only old lineman on that team that ranks top 15 in pressure rates at left
- 28:08tackle and he's allowed the fourth lowest pressure rate at tackle.
- 28:14That's a whole frame right there, folks.
- 28:16That's a bona fide first ballot hall of famer right there.
- 28:20That is something that is a difference maker right there from the moment that he was traded
- 28:25to the 49ers.
- 28:27That was a difference maker.
- 28:30That is someone that you cannot find in the draft, that you cannot find in free agency,
- 28:36that you cannot find via trade.
- 28:38That is a one in a million type of player.
- 28:41That is God giving ability.
- 28:43Brand IE that's a system.
- 28:46That's a system.
- 28:47I'm just going to end it there.
- 28:49Now onto the last topic.
- 28:51Oh wow.
- 28:5220 minutes.
- 28:53Okay.
- 28:54Pretty good.
- 28:55Pretty good.
- 28:56We're on a good time.
- 28:57We got to talk about Omar.
- 28:58We got to talk about Omar.
- 28:59We we come on, Steve, we got to have an honest conversation about Omar Khan.
- 29:04Okay.
- 29:05My end and I'm again, I'm going to try to be as non-biased as I possibly can.
- 29:09I'm going to try to remove all emotion out of it.
- 29:11But if it happens, it happens.
- 29:13Okay.
- 29:14I think a question that thing that needs to be asked is, did Omar Khan reach when it
- 29:19came to trying to, you know, upgrade the receiver position?
- 29:23And I would say yes.
- 29:24And the reason why I say that is because you were in this situation where you had Deontay
- 29:29Johnson, a veteran receiver on your team, who's probably looking for just an extra little
- 29:33bit of money and who basically voiced his opinion about the current conundrum that was
- 29:41with the quarterback situation and with the offensive play calling.
- 29:46And they were just like, to hell with you.
- 29:47We're going to ship you somewhere else.
- 29:49Right.
- 29:50And they were thinking, okay, maybe we'll have a chance to get one of these other receivers.
- 29:55You didn't.
- 29:57You didn't.
- 29:58You were supposed to have a visit with Mike Williams.
- 29:59Guess what?
- 30:00He signed with the Jets.
- 30:02Tyler Boyd took less money to be with the Titans.
- 30:05Right.
- 30:06Who else?
- 30:07Cortland Sutton.
- 30:08I mean, he was on a little bit of a holdout situation with the Broncos.
- 30:14Guess what they did?
- 30:15They just gave him a little bit more extra money and guarantees and whatnot.
- 30:20You've basically been the only team that's been trying to hold on to this whole brand
- 30:25and IU situation.
- 30:26Right.
- 30:28At some point, you have to call this a fail.
- 30:31It was a fail.
- 30:32It was a failed attempt.
- 30:34You never should have did it because now you don't create it this big hole on the team
- 30:39that you don't, that you've tried to fill it with other lower tier receivers thinking
- 30:44that it's going to do it and it's not.
- 30:47You got Scotty Miller.
- 30:49You got Quest Walkins and a bunch of other receivers thinking that they're going to be
- 30:53able to do what Deontay Johnson did and he can't.
- 30:56They can't.
- 30:57They just can't.
- 30:58Right.
- 30:59You know, sometimes we have to look at it from a player's perspective.
- 31:03Deontay Johnson, you know, his most success came from when he had who?
- 31:08Big Ben.
- 31:09Right.
- 31:10And, you know, that was, that was different.
- 31:14It was a different, you know, way that he was getting the ball and, you know, the way
- 31:19that he was getting fed and whatnot compared to with, you know, Kenny Pickett and Mitchell
- 31:24Biscay and Mason Rudolph, it was a little bit difficult for him because why, you know,
- 31:31people are learning, you know, the offensive system and, you know, different, you know,
- 31:36various changes and all and whatnot.
- 31:38And then, you know, he did have chemistry with Mason and then, you know, the media asked
- 31:43him, like, you know, if you could make a decision on who would you want to be the next, you
- 31:48know, next year's quarterback, he said Mason and you can't hate him for, he's just being
- 31:53honest in that moment because why?
- 31:55He was able to get the ball more when he was with Mason than he was with Mitchell Biscay
- 32:01or Kenny Pickett.
- 32:03That's just what it is.
- 32:04The tape doesn't lie, folks.
- 32:06If you look at the tape of Kenny Pickett when he was with the Steelers, a lot of times Deontay
- 32:12Johnson was open.
- 32:14A lot of times George Pickens was open.
- 32:16A lot of times Pat Farmer was open.
- 32:19Right.
- 32:20But we have to call a spade a spade in this type of situation.
- 32:24And granted, I understand Omar was thinking he could probably be the con artist and all
- 32:29those different types of things.
- 32:30But the fact of the matter is you have now made a hole so big that you're basically hoping
- 32:36and praying that somebody, that another receiver basically becomes disgruntled and wants out.
- 32:44And even then, they probably wouldn't even want to go to the Steelers anyway because
- 32:49we're not a Super Bowl team nor are we a playoff team at this point.
- 32:54We're not.
- 32:55And I understand there are people that are saying, we should have gave up a first round
- 33:01pick to seal the deal with Brandon Iewick and whatnot or we should have gave up George
- 33:05Pickens to get Brandon Iewick.
- 33:08But clearly they didn't.
- 33:10And it shows.
- 33:12It shows.
- 33:13And now they're in a situation where the season is about to start in less than two weeks and
- 33:18he don't have a true number one receiver on your team.
- 33:22You have George Pickens who's now the one.
- 33:25But even then, can we say that he can handle the workload that comes with being a number
- 33:31one receiver?
- 33:32You have Van Jefferson.
- 33:34You have Calvin Austin.
- 33:36You have Scotty Miller and company.
- 33:39That's what you have.
- 33:41And you know, to the people that say, well, what about the Vante Adams?
- 33:44The Vante Adams wants to win.
- 33:46The Vante Adams wants a Super Bowl.
- 33:49We are not there.
- 33:50So of course he's not going to come to us, right?
- 33:53Unless it's a player who he really doesn't care about winning a championship, but he
- 33:58just wants to be put in a better situation than it.
- 34:01Okay, maybe something.
- 34:03It's going to be a situation where they're going to be like, oh, yeah, I want to go to
- 34:06the stairs.
- 34:07I want to go to the stairs.
- 34:08I don't know about that, brother.
- 34:10I don't know about that.
- 34:11Brandon, I understand that being a GM is hard.
- 34:16As a fellow former GM and one down, I get all those different types of things.
- 34:20I understand that you may with on certain situations and whatnot, and you have to take
- 34:26your Ls respectfully.
- 34:28But you know, when you don't have to do it, then don't do it, right?
- 34:33Because the Panthers were already going to release Dante Jackson.
- 34:36So you just gave them a draft pick just because, right?
- 34:39And then you gave them, you know, a top receiver as well.
- 34:43So, you know, we, we whiffed, we whiffed, we whiffed.
- 34:49And now they're going to have to hope, pray, you know, fingers crossed and a four leaf
- 34:55clover and a rabbit's foot in, you know, a leprechaun and more just to see if they can
- 35:00get a true number one receiver on this team.
- 35:04But that's all I'm going to say with that.
- 35:06I told you guys, I'm going to keep it light and whatnot.
- 35:09So I'm going to, I'm going to, you know, hold, hold myself to that.
