Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: Can we trust AI?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The robots are coming, look out everybody, and they reckon
- 0:03Speaker 1: they'll be better. Are us than us humans doing really difficult,
- 0:06Speaker 1: complex stuff like being a doctor. Microsoft has announced overnight
- 0:11Speaker 1: an artificial intelligence system, which I am just calling a
- 0:15Speaker 1: robot that performs better. This is what they're arguing performs
- 0:19Speaker 1: better than a human doctor at complex health diagnosis. This
- 0:24Speaker 1: is according to Guardian reporting. In the last couple of hours,
- 0:27Speaker 1: they say Microsoft's come out, their AI unit has come
- 0:31Speaker 1: out and said they're creating a path to medical superintelligence.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Lookout world. So they think in their case studies that
- 0:40Speaker 1: their AI doctor solves or correctly diagnosed eight out of
- 0:46Speaker 1: ten case studies, really complex ones eight out of ten.
- 0:50Speaker 1: The real doctors who didn't have access to the Internet
- 0:52Speaker 1: or to books or anything, the real doctors two out
- 0:55Speaker 1: of ten. So who you're going to trust? And that's
- 0:58Speaker 1: the question you start asking yourself. Do you trust AI
- 1:01Speaker 1: to make important decisions like health decisions on your behalf?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Even though doctors don't always get it right. The thought
- 1:08Speaker 1: of a computer deciding your fate is kind of weird,
- 1:11Speaker 1: hard to get used to. But if it's shown to
- 1:14Speaker 1: work reliably, if it's accurate, and I suppose why not. China, meanwhile,
- 1:19Speaker 1: is into robots big time. A company there wants a
- 1:23Speaker 1: humanoid robot cleaning our dishes and washing our clothes in
- 1:26Speaker 1: a matter of years. They had an exhibition this week.
- 1:29Speaker 1: They want one robot for every home and this I
- 1:32Speaker 1: can get on board with. But you've got to ask.
- 1:35Speaker 1: With the robots apparently taking every job under the sun,
- 1:38Speaker 1: they'll be cutting our hair soon, what are we going
- 1:40Speaker 1: to do once they've completed their mission to take over
- 1:43Speaker 1: the world? What do we do for work? Seventy seven
- 1:46Speaker 1: percent of companies are either using AI right now or
- 1:49Speaker 1: are actively trying to. Year on year growth for this
- 1:53Speaker 1: industry is now at more than one hundred percent. Seventy
- 1:56Speaker 1: seven percent of all devices in the world are currently
- 2:00Speaker 1: using some form of AI, and I get why this
- 2:03Speaker 1: is happening and everything from health to housework, because it's
- 2:08Speaker 1: far more efficient and cost effective to do this. But
- 2:12Speaker 1: with so much of the work being done by others,
- 2:15Speaker 1: what's left to occupy our time? For more from Early
- 2:19Speaker 1: Edition with Ryan Bridge, listen live to News Talk Set
