- 0:57Speaker 1: Heather MacDonald.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Juicy Scoop.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Juicy Scoop. Well, I have a
- 1:04Speaker 1: killer show for you. I am so excited to share
- 1:06Speaker 1: with you my interview with Christine from Sister Wives. It's
- 1:11Speaker 1: everything I thought it would be. She was so honest.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I asked so many questions. She answered every single one
- 1:16Speaker 1: of them. And it was a really enlightening conversation that
- 1:21Speaker 1: even if you don't watch the show, I think you'll
- 1:22Speaker 1: find fascinating. But let's get into some hot topics first
- 1:26Speaker 1: before we get to that. So we now know the
- 1:29Speaker 1: cause of Matthew Perry's death. And unfortunately, it was ketamine,
- 1:35Speaker 1: enough to put someone asleep for general surgery. So people
- 1:41Speaker 1: use this. You hear special K. People use a little
- 1:44Speaker 1: of it, I guess, to party. But it's also used
- 1:47Speaker 1: in medical procedures. And he was having this therapy done,
- 1:53Speaker 1: but it had almost been a whole week since he
- 1:56Speaker 1: had had it. So they know that it wasn't from
- 1:59Speaker 1: that therapy since they found it in his system. They
- 2:02Speaker 1: know that he must have taken it shortly before he
- 2:06Speaker 1: got into the jacuzzi because it only lasts in your
- 2:09Speaker 1: system three to four hours. But he had 3540, 3540
- 2:12Speaker 1: NG slash MLs. I don't know what that means, but
- 2:23Speaker 1: For general anesthesia, when you use this ketamine for that,
- 2:27Speaker 1: it's between 1,000 and 6,000. And he had over 3,500.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So it was an enormous amount. And so what these
- 2:36Speaker 1: doctors are speculating is that he must have taken it,
- 2:40Speaker 1: gotten in the jacuzzi, and it just gets to the
- 2:42Speaker 1: point where you really relax or become unconscious. And so
- 2:48Speaker 1: he must have... become unconscious and then slipped under the
- 2:52Speaker 1: water and drowned. But anybody that's using it for fun
- 2:57Speaker 1: or recreational purposes would know not to go swimming or
- 3:00Speaker 1: do something like that. So it's really sad, really unfortunate,
- 3:04Speaker 1: but I'm glad that we have some answers. Hopefully this
- 3:06Speaker 1: be a warning to anybody that is messing with this stuff.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And certainly not to go into a jacuzzi or a
- 3:12Speaker 1: pool or a bathtub by yourself whenever you're on this.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And just so sad he did. He was able to
- 3:19Speaker 1: start some foundations for addiction before he passed. But my God,
- 3:24Speaker 1: all the money in the world, millions and millions of dollars.
- 3:27Speaker 1: The most popular show in the last 30 years was
- 3:30Speaker 1: he was a star of Friends. They were getting a
- 3:31Speaker 1: million an episode. Just so sad.
- 3:34Speaker 2: So.
- 3:35Speaker 1: you know, let's hope that people take better care of
- 3:38Speaker 1: themselves in the 2024. Amanda Bynes, she started a podcast.
- 3:45Speaker 1: She had one episode and she has announced, I am
- 3:49Speaker 1: taking a break from my podcast. I'm putting it on pause.
- 3:54Speaker 1: There's probably more to it or maybe not. She's like,
- 3:57Speaker 1: we're just not able to get the guests I thought
- 3:59Speaker 1: we were going to get. We aren't able to get
- 4:03Speaker 1: Jack Harlow or Drake or Post Malone. And therefore, since
- 4:07Speaker 1: I can't secure those interviews after I've only had my
- 4:10Speaker 1: podcast for one week, I'm out. I'm quitting. And maybe
- 4:16Speaker 1: I'll be back. Maybe I won't. But like, unless Drake
- 4:18Speaker 1: comes on my podcast or Post Malone, like, why am
- 4:21Speaker 1: I even bothering? So, you know, listen, I wish you well.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I hope she becomes creative and, you know, stays on
- 4:29Speaker 1: a good path. But as someone that has been doing
- 4:31Speaker 1: this for eight and a half years... There's something quite
- 4:35Speaker 1: satisfying about somebody who realizes how hard it is and
- 4:39Speaker 1: then just decides to quit after one episode.
- 4:42Speaker 3: So, you know what?
- 4:43Speaker 1: It's not that easy, people. Awful video footage came out
- 4:49Speaker 1: over the weekend. I'm not exactly sure when this fight
- 4:53Speaker 1: went down. It was pretty recent. It was Kim and Croy.
- 4:57Speaker 1: We now know one of their kids called the police.
- 5:00Speaker 1: and said, it looked like my dad might have been
- 5:05Speaker 1: hitting my mom. When the police came, she was in
- 5:07Speaker 1: a Range Rover. She said, I just came back from
- 5:09Speaker 1: a hair appointment and he's freaking out. So I'm staying
- 5:13Speaker 1: in my car. One of the kids called the police
- 5:16Speaker 1: and he was just like yelling about his life, how
- 5:21Speaker 1: he has nothing. No one listens to him. She's sleeping
- 5:24Speaker 1: with other guys. She's gambled away their money. They have
- 5:26Speaker 1: no house, no job, no nothing. And the comments were like,
- 5:30Speaker 1: You know, what's your job? And then other comments were like,
- 5:33Speaker 1: why is she still have a Range Rover and getting
- 5:36Speaker 1: her hair done if they have no money? And but
- 5:38Speaker 1: most of them were just like, this is so sad
- 5:41Speaker 1: for the family and the kids. And why are they
- 5:43Speaker 1: living together? Can they please stop living together so that
- 5:46Speaker 1: there's some peace for these kids? So now she has
- 5:50Speaker 1: started a Instagram where she's selling all his stuff. She's
- 5:54Speaker 1: selling Corey's luggage and his shoes and all of his items.
- 5:58Speaker 1: She's been selling her own stuff for a while. So
- 6:01Speaker 1: they're selling off their possessions, but people are digging up
- 6:04Speaker 1: videos from Corey. of reunions of where she's like, don't worry.
- 6:08Speaker 1: My husband, Corey, is very successful. He's in the NFL.
- 6:11Speaker 1: We know this won't last forever. But right now, yeah. Yeah,
- 6:14Speaker 1: we have a $ 150, 000 car. Yeah, I buy three wigs
- 6:18Speaker 1: a week that are worth $ 10, 000. I don't know. But
- 6:22Speaker 1: people are like, yeah. And she's like, oh, yeah. Cashmere
- 6:24Speaker 1: Cosmetics made over $ 15 million. And Porsche's like, that's some
- 6:28Speaker 1: Kim K type of money. Like, Of course it wasn't
- 6:31Speaker 1: going to last. Of course they were ridiculous overspenders. She
- 6:34Speaker 1: does have a history of gambling. It wasn't that he
- 6:37Speaker 1: didn't have a job. His job was managing the household
- 6:40Speaker 1: and the family. And they did so many paid sponsors,
- 6:45Speaker 1: Instagram ads and things like that, which are not willy-nilly.
- 6:49Speaker 1: They take a lot of effort. They take time to secure.
- 6:51Speaker 1: They take time to film. So it's not like they
- 6:53Speaker 1: were doing nothing, but they were obviously living way beyond
- 6:56Speaker 1: their means. But he did just post... like a little
- 7:01Speaker 1: thank you for all your support because a lot of
- 7:03Speaker 1: people are like feeling for him at this point. Like,
- 7:08Speaker 1: did she ruin his life? And also they never... His
- 7:13Speaker 1: parents were not at the wedding, and as much as
- 7:16Speaker 1: we know as the public, he has been estranged from
- 7:19Speaker 1: his parents since he and Kim got together. So it'll
- 7:22Speaker 1: be interesting to see if he makes up with his
- 7:25Speaker 1: parents at all. But that's what's going on there. Bad
- 7:27Speaker 1: Bunny and Kendall Jenner broke up. I don't really care.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Taylor Swift, it was her birthday, and her dad was
- 7:34Speaker 1: there at the Chiefs game. She had a cute little
- 7:37Speaker 1: Santa Chiefs hat on, and it was her birthday, and
- 7:40Speaker 1: he was cutting up her cake and giving it to
- 7:42Speaker 1: other people in the box next to them. You guys,
- 7:47Speaker 1: it's happening. It is all happening. Since the beginning, I
- 7:53Speaker 1: am sticking with it. I am convinced. that these two
- 7:57Speaker 1: are going to get married and probably have kids and
- 8:02Speaker 1: maybe stay together forever. Hopefully, if they get married, they will.
- 8:05Speaker 1: But this is a significant relationship. It will go down
- 8:09Speaker 1: in history as one of her long-term relationships, hopefully her last.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But that is my prediction. Good for her. Oh, my God,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you guys. Real ultimate girls trip, legacy edition, St. Bart's.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Three episodes out on Peacock. I smiled for three hours
- 8:30Speaker 1: watching this on Sunday. I posted about it. I tagged
- 8:36Speaker 1: all the girls. I talked to Luann on the phone.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I was like, Luann, it's so good. It's so, so funny.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It really, I really, listen to me, Bravo, because you
- 8:45Speaker 1: know I have great ideas. And I want to say,
- 8:48Speaker 1: I still am going to say, there is strong evidence
- 8:53Speaker 1: that this whole idea for a show came from me.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Because when I first started doing my live Juicy Scoops,
- 8:58Speaker 1: when nobody else was doing live podcasts, really, in the
- 9:03Speaker 1: Bravo realm, I did one in New York at the
- 9:06Speaker 1: City Winery and I had Dorinda and she was my
- 9:08Speaker 1: live guest. And I was like, who would you want
- 9:10Speaker 1: to be on an island with and why? Right. And
- 9:15Speaker 1: I did it from her cast, but then I started
- 9:20Speaker 1: doing it with other housewives from different casts and they
- 9:22Speaker 1: would justify it. Well, Ramona would get the hot guys
- 9:25Speaker 1: and this one would know how to cook. And then
- 9:28Speaker 1: the Ultimate Girls Trip came about. I'm just saying, just saying,
- 9:31Speaker 1: it's a great idea. I also think it would be
- 9:33Speaker 1: fun to do more of a Survivor episode as well.
- 9:38Speaker 1: But for right now, I think we love to see
- 9:40Speaker 1: the girls looking glamorous. I think we love to see
- 9:42Speaker 1: a beautiful place. It's St. Bart's. It's gorgeous. They have
- 9:45Speaker 1: great dresses. They have bright colored earrings. It's fun to watch.
- 9:50Speaker 1: On it, it's Ramona, Sonia, Luann, and Dorinda. And then
- 9:56Speaker 1: they brought back Kelly Bessamone, who was most famous for
- 9:59Speaker 1: eating her jelly beans on Scary Island, and which Bethany said,
- 10:02Speaker 1: go to sleep. They brought her back. She's a realtor now,
- 10:05Speaker 1: still looking gorgeous. And Kristen Taichman, who's also a model
- 10:08Speaker 1: and a mom who lives here in Calabasas, who has
- 10:10Speaker 1: been on Juicy Scoop. So I think this is a
- 10:13Speaker 1: perfect cast. I love watching it. It And, you know,
- 10:17Speaker 1: Dorinda is there, and she's looking beautiful, and she's funny,
- 10:20Speaker 1: and she's saying all her great one-liners. And she's like,
- 10:23Speaker 1: you know what, Kristen? You were fired. I was put
- 10:26Speaker 1: on pause. And there is a difference. And if you–
- 10:28Speaker 1: you know what? Pigeons don't fly with eagles. Guess who
- 10:32Speaker 1: the eagle is?
- 10:33Speaker 3: I'm the eagle.
- 10:34Speaker 1: And they're like, wait, what is this? Yes, you know,
- 10:37Speaker 1: just stop it.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Just stop.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Then they bring hot guys over, and Dorinda's like– These
- 10:41Speaker 1: guys are.
- 10:42Speaker 3: A little young.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Is there anybody that's a professional waiter on this island
- 10:47Speaker 1: over 40? I mean, come on. Do we need babysitters?
- 10:52Speaker 1: And oh my gosh, it's just like, it is so funny.
- 10:56Speaker 1: You have to watch it. It's so good. They get
- 10:58Speaker 1: into some juicy stuff. Of course, they're asking Kristen Taichman
- 11:02Speaker 1: about her very long marriage, but eight years ago, which
- 11:06Speaker 1: was right when they didn't ask her back to be
- 11:09Speaker 1: on the show. Ashley Madison came out, which is a
- 11:13Speaker 1: dating website. There's even been, I think, a documentary about
- 11:16Speaker 1: it where it was like, life is short, have an affair.
- 11:20Speaker 1: It's for married people that want to have affairs with
- 11:22Speaker 1: other married people. They don't want to leave their spouse.
- 11:26Speaker 1: So everyone kind of knows the rules. We're not going
- 11:27Speaker 1: to fall in love. And listen, one time when I
- 11:31Speaker 1: was at Chelsea lately, I went on it because we
- 11:34Speaker 1: were like doing a topic on it. And I put
- 11:36Speaker 1: in my zip code and I did not put any
- 11:39Speaker 1: photo of me. And I did like a fake name.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And it came back. So many men were ready to
- 11:46Speaker 1: meet me. And all I did was put my real age,
- 11:48Speaker 1: which at the time was like, whatever, 40 or something.
- 11:53Speaker 1: And that was it. Like, no one knew what I
- 11:55Speaker 1: looked like or anything. And they're like, let's meet. And
- 11:58Speaker 1: so I was like, oh, my God. So, of course,
- 11:59Speaker 1: I jumped off of it. But basically, that is what
- 12:03Speaker 1: Kristen is saying, is that her husband and his friends,
- 12:07Speaker 1: that's what she said on my show, went on it together.
- 12:10Speaker 1: as a joke. But when the girls start bringing up
- 12:13Speaker 1: articles from the past, it's like there were 75 different
- 12:16Speaker 1: exchanges with her husband's profile and other women. But she says,
- 12:22Speaker 1: whatever that was, they never met in person. He called
- 12:25Speaker 1: himself the Mr. Big of New York City. And they
- 12:28Speaker 1: keep bringing it up. And she's like, yeah, it was
- 12:30Speaker 1: a problem. We went to therapy over it. That was
- 12:33Speaker 1: eight and a half years ago. We're still married. None
- 12:35Speaker 1: of you are. And a couple of other women brought
- 12:37Speaker 1: that up, too. They were like, congrats to you staying married.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Congrats to you working out an issue like this, whether
- 12:43Speaker 1: it was an indiscretion or, you know. Stage one of cheating.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I don't know, but you did it. But as they
- 12:50Speaker 1: all toast and cheer and she thinks she got out scot-free,
- 12:54Speaker 1: they bring it up again at the dinner. And they're like, yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 1: but you shouldn't be okay with it. Like Kelly Bessamone
- 13:00Speaker 1: was like, you shouldn't be okay with it. She's like,
- 13:02Speaker 1: I wasn't okay with it. I'm good with my marriage now,
- 13:06Speaker 1: eight years later. No, I wasn't happy with it when
- 13:09Speaker 1: it happened eight years ago. She handled herself really, really well.
- 13:13Speaker 1: And the fact that all the women are divorced, Ramona
- 13:17Speaker 1: alludes to having a boyfriend and her whole face lights up.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Ramona's being pretty nice right now. Besides being really hungry
- 13:24Speaker 1: once and letting the staff know that she was starving,
- 13:26Speaker 1: pretty good so far and pretty fun and pretty nice.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Kelly Bessamone, by the third episode, is starting to show up.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Scary Island, Kelly, in which Dorinda watches it. It is,
- 13:38Speaker 1: I'm just telling you guys, it is so fun. And
- 13:41Speaker 1: just like, especially if it's like cold where you are
- 13:44Speaker 1: and then you snuggle in your bed on an afternoon
- 13:46Speaker 1: and you watch a few of these episodes, highly recommend.
- 13:48Speaker 1: And I think they should do these with like the
- 13:52Speaker 1: OGs of... OC, the OGs of New Jersey, the OGs
- 13:57Speaker 1: of Atlanta, like that's the OGs of Beverly Hills. I
- 14:02Speaker 1: like that these people have history and I like that
- 14:05Speaker 1: we're only focusing on their city and not all these
- 14:09Speaker 1: other cities. So that's my suggestion. AI is everywhere, but
- 14:13Speaker 1: ROI isn't.
- 14:14Speaker 2: At PWC, we turn AI into advantage so you can
- 14:18Speaker 2: see results, not hype.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Move from potential to performance at pwc.ie.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I'm Darman, and this is What Happens Next. Each week
- 14:30Speaker 2: on the show, I sit down with extraordinary people who
- 14:33Speaker 2: have faced tremendous setbacks. and yet somehow have found a
- 14:37Speaker 2: way to turn them into their greatest strengths.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Life is one long lesson of chaos.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I'm heading to the Emmys and I have police complaints
- 14:45Speaker 1: filed against me. When your free will was about to
- 14:47Speaker 1: be taken from you, what would you.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Do if it was given back? Where did that need
- 14:52Speaker 2: come from where you thought that you had to succeed
- 14:55Speaker 2: in order to feel loved?
- 14:56Speaker 1: He said, I have a work dad.
- 14:57Speaker 3: I need a home dad.
- 14:58Speaker 1: What happens next? When I came in, he started crying.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Everybody in life encounters hardships. What defines them is not
- 15:06Speaker 2: those hard moments that they go through. It's about what
- 15:08Speaker 2: happens next.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I decided to risk it all. I realized how valuable
- 15:12Speaker 1: every day was.
- 15:13Speaker 3: You're worth the work.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Listen, Dar, I'm not going to pull punches.
- 15:16Speaker 1: You can use your voice even if it's shaped.
- 15:18Speaker 2: The stories are different, but the impact is the same.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Only one question matters. What happens next?
- 15:32Speaker 1: Um, Meanwhile, Brandi Glanville is not happy. She is tweeting
- 15:36Speaker 1: things saying like, because we don't know if we're ever
- 15:39Speaker 1: going to see her episode of Ultimate Girls Trip where
- 15:41Speaker 1: she allegedly kissed and groped Caroline Manzo and also where
- 15:46Speaker 1: she's being accused by some waiter that she grabbed his
- 15:49Speaker 1: shirt and sexually harassed him. She is like, no, I
- 15:53Speaker 1: hate being the scapegoat. Stop it. These producers, when we
- 15:56Speaker 1: were in Morocco, which is the one we have not,
- 15:58Speaker 1: we may never see with Caroline, they're encouraging us to
- 16:01Speaker 1: drink and all this stuff. I just don't think anybody cares.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I think the Reality Reckoning, Hulu doc, literally not even
- 16:10Speaker 1: Bethany is promoting that anymore. In fact, Bethany Frankel in
- 16:14Speaker 1: the past week has said, I really love Andy. We
- 16:19Speaker 1: had such a great friendship. I adore him and like
- 16:23Speaker 1: giving suggestions. So she's like, okay, this last four months
- 16:27Speaker 1: of this did not work out. And now let me
- 16:30Speaker 1: slowly weasel my way back in to maybe go do
- 16:35Speaker 1: an ultimate girls trip or something. This must be killing
- 16:37Speaker 1: her that this is doing so well and everybody's enjoying it.
- 16:40Speaker 1: That's my opinion. On Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, it's
- 16:44Speaker 1: getting really good. It's always so fun. Sutton celebrated her store.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And Anne-Marie, who is an anesthesiologist nurse, says, I don't
- 16:57Speaker 1: believe what you're saying that you eat– less food because
- 17:01Speaker 1: you have a narrow esophagus. That's just not true. And
- 17:05Speaker 1: she's just attacking her, going after her. And Sutton is like,
- 17:08Speaker 1: am I at a doctor's appointment right now? Do you
- 17:11Speaker 1: need my health insurance card? I have a pay-pay. Oh,
- 17:14Speaker 1: I don't mean to brag. I'm like, what is this?
- 17:17Speaker 1: And everyone's like, so a lot of people didn't like
- 17:21Speaker 1: the new girl Anne-Marie for that. And Tiffany Moon, who
- 17:24Speaker 1: is an anesthesiologist, an actual doctor of it, went to
- 17:28Speaker 1: her Instagram and said, no, what Sutton is saying is true.
- 17:33Speaker 1: What Anne-Marie is saying as a nurse is not cool.
- 17:36Speaker 1: She's weaponizing her medical education or experience in the wrong
- 17:42Speaker 1: way on a reality show when you don't know it.
- 17:45Speaker 1: And yes, what... Sutton was saying is true. Some people
- 17:48Speaker 1: do have a narrowing of the esophagus and you can
- 17:50Speaker 1: go in and expand it. And then Eric Jane is like, well,
- 17:54Speaker 1: that explains it. Why she's single. Girl can't give a
- 17:57Speaker 1: proper blowjob. Too small of an esophagus. Guess what? Guess
- 18:02Speaker 1: I have a big one. It's expensive to be me.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I've got the circumference of an esophagus that only men
- 18:11Speaker 1: would dream about. That's right. Come see me on Betted
- 18:14Speaker 1: on Blonde last show this weekend, baby. And then Dorit
- 18:20Speaker 1: came over and was accusing Crystal of talking about Sutton
- 18:23Speaker 1: because Sutton's like, I don't like that you guys talked
- 18:25Speaker 1: about that I drink too much because it might affect
- 18:27Speaker 1: my $ 300, 000 of tax-free spousal support and child support that
- 18:33Speaker 1: I get a month. And without that, I am a
- 18:37Speaker 1: struggling single mother just trying to get this Beverly Hills
- 18:40Speaker 1: West Hollywood store off the ground. So don't like get
- 18:44Speaker 1: it so people think I'm not a good parent because
- 18:47Speaker 1: I don't drink. I don't drink that much. I had
- 18:49Speaker 1: my first cocktail while that nurse was telling me that
- 18:54Speaker 1: my esophagus narrowing is a lie and I don't like that.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I was trying to sell some really great Sutton gifts
- 19:02Speaker 1: for the holiday season and I don't need to think
- 19:05Speaker 1: about the fact that that I don't swallow or don't
- 19:07Speaker 1: give incredible blowjobs. Thank you, Erica Jane. Thank you for
- 19:10Speaker 1: also commenting on how I might perform.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 19:14Speaker 1: So funny.
- 19:15Speaker 3: So great.
- 19:16Speaker 1: And then in Aspen, everybody's there. Kendall Jenner's there without
- 19:19Speaker 1: bad buddy. But Mauricio is there with some new girl
- 19:22Speaker 1: just going to dinner. It might be nothing, but they
- 19:24Speaker 1: went to dinner and she's some cute brunette who is
- 19:27Speaker 1: a influencer. A lot of people are concerned that Mark
- 19:32Speaker 1: Zuckerberg is building some $ 150 billion trillion home and bunker
- 19:38Speaker 1: underneath on this island in Hawaii, meaning so if our
- 19:42Speaker 1: continent just goes to dust, he'll be the only one living.
- 19:45Speaker 1: So either make friends with him or make friends with...
- 19:50Speaker 1: Lauren Sanchez, who's marrying Jeff Bezos, because she's got a I,
- 19:59Speaker 1: that's someone you want to be friends with when the
- 20:00Speaker 1: world ends. Absolutely. So call me Lauren. All right, you guys,
- 20:04Speaker 1: everybody go to heathermcdonald.net. That is where you join my
- 20:06Speaker 1: Patreon and I'll be doing, dropping good stuff all throughout
- 20:10Speaker 1: the end of the year, as always. Also, my merch
- 20:14Speaker 1: is there. If you want to get any of my
- 20:15Speaker 1: great sayings, hats, cups, juicy scoops, slides, all of it
- 20:20Speaker 1: is there at heathermcdonald.net. And now for my interview with
- 20:24Speaker 1: Christine from Sister Wives, wife number three, no more. And
- 20:28Speaker 1: she's now a newlywed. So juicy, so good. I am
- 20:32Speaker 1: so excited. You guys have known how much I've wanted
- 20:35Speaker 1: to talk to this reality star, this woman, this mom,
- 20:40Speaker 1: this newlywed. It is Christine from Sister Wives. Fresh off,
- 20:46Speaker 1: we just all saw the fourth episode of the one-on-one's.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I'm so excited to talk to you, Christine.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Heather, I'm so excited to talk to you too. I
- 20:57Speaker 3: am so honored. It was so much fun meeting you
- 21:00Speaker 3: with the variety thing. And it's an absolute treat. The day,
- 21:04Speaker 3: a couple of days after I got back, David was like,
- 21:08Speaker 3: oh my gosh, you've got to listen to this. And
- 21:09Speaker 3: you were talking about meeting me and it was such
- 21:12Speaker 3: an honor. Thank you. I'm so excited to be here. Well,
- 21:16Speaker 3: I'm so excited.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I have been really into your show, probably like the last,
- 21:21Speaker 1: Four or five years. I did not watch it in
- 21:24Speaker 1: the very beginning. I really started watching once you were
- 21:27Speaker 1: in Las Vegas in the cul-de-sac.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:31Speaker 1: But I first just want to get a little history.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I mean, anybody who's in Juicy Scoop knows your story.
- 21:39Speaker 1: But you guys have done 17 or 18 seasons of
- 21:41Speaker 1: the show.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Spain. Spain.
- 21:45Speaker 1: You were wife three to Cody Brown. There was Mary Janelle, you,
- 21:49Speaker 1: and then after you came Robin. And so did you
- 21:54Speaker 1: come from polygamy? Yeah, I did.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Religious wise, I was in a church that polygamy was
- 22:04Speaker 3: one of the tenets of the faith. And it's not Mormons.
- 22:08Speaker 3: It's a fundamentalist Mormon is what the church was called.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Not not Mormons at all. But that was just part
- 22:14Speaker 3: of our faith was to live plural marriage. And so
- 22:17Speaker 3: it was just natural for me to know that I
- 22:19Speaker 3: wanted to live it. And I truly did really want
- 22:22Speaker 3: to be a third wife. I thought that would just
- 22:23Speaker 3: be the best. I thought I got myself was just
- 22:25Speaker 3: way too much work. And then being a second wife,
- 22:28Speaker 3: I didn't want to do that because I felt like
- 22:29Speaker 3: it would be a wedge in between the married couple
- 22:32Speaker 3: and nobody wants to be a wedge. So I really
- 22:34Speaker 3: felt like a third wife would be the best and
- 22:37Speaker 3: it'd be the easiest. And I was totally just down
- 22:41Speaker 3: being the third wife. And, but my dad, I, anyway,
- 22:44Speaker 3: back up a little bit.
- 22:46Speaker 4: My dad married my other mom when I was five
- 22:48Speaker 4: and I remember their wedding. I had a beautiful dress
- 22:52Speaker 4: and she's been part of my life ever since. Like
- 22:55Speaker 4: my mom left my dad and left the religion and
- 22:58Speaker 4: everything when I was 19, but I still stayed in
- 23:01Speaker 4: the church and I still wanted to live polygamy even
- 23:04Speaker 4: back then.
- 23:05Speaker 1: So was your mom the first wife?
- 23:07Speaker 3: My mom was the first wife. Yes. And then when
- 23:10Speaker 3: she left, my dad didn't remarry another wife. So she,
- 23:14Speaker 3: he and my other mom are still together. And like
- 23:18Speaker 3: she was at my wedding. You'll see her as well
- 23:20Speaker 3: when you see, um, Yeah. Yes, she is in the
- 23:24Speaker 3: wedding episode.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Did your mom stay close to wife number two?
- 23:30Speaker 3: No, no. It's they're OK now. Like it took them
- 23:35Speaker 3: several years just because it's hard. It's splitting up both
- 23:41Speaker 3: the whole family in a way, too. And so it
- 23:43Speaker 3: was just difficult. But they never like fought before or
- 23:48Speaker 3: anything like that. When my mom left, it was a
- 23:50Speaker 3: big shock to everybody. I had no idea that she
- 23:53Speaker 3: wasn't happy or anything.
- 23:56Speaker 1: She left when you were 19. And then when did
- 23:59Speaker 1: you meet Cody and the family?
- 24:02Speaker 3: I met Cody when I was 18. I met Cody.
- 24:05Speaker 3: He was only married to Mary when I met him.
- 24:07Speaker 3: It was just out of high school that I met him.
- 24:10Speaker 3: And we just hung out. We just had a good
- 24:12Speaker 3: time with each other. I know we went to Wyoming.
- 24:17Speaker 3: He's from Wyoming. So we all went up to see
- 24:19Speaker 3: his family in Wyoming. And we just hung out a
- 24:21Speaker 3: lot for like three and a half years. We just
- 24:23Speaker 3: hung out. And then in that meantime, he married Janelle.
- 24:29Speaker 3: And then we were just really good friends. And then
- 24:31Speaker 3: like a couple of years into it, I'm like, you
- 24:33Speaker 3: know what? He's the coolest guy that I know. And
- 24:36Speaker 3: he's really awesome. And I loved how strong and independent
- 24:40Speaker 3: he was. And he wouldn't just go by the book.
- 24:44Speaker 3: He would really research things out himself. And he wasn't
- 24:46Speaker 3: a follower. He was a leader and he was a doer.
- 24:49Speaker 3: And I really liked that about him. So it was easy.
- 24:53Speaker 3: It was easy to just, he was just the best
- 24:55Speaker 3: guy that I knew.
- 24:57Speaker 1: So when you tell your mom, who now at this
- 25:00Speaker 1: time is divorced from your dad, no longer in a
- 25:03Speaker 1: polygamous marriage, and you said, mom, I think I found
- 25:06Speaker 1: the family I want to join as a third wife.
- 25:09Speaker 1: What was her opinion? So she knew Cody already. Like
- 25:14Speaker 1: she'd known Cody.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Like I kept in contact with my mom even when
- 25:18Speaker 3: she left and she knew Cody and she liked Cody
- 25:21Speaker 3: and she'd met Mary and Janelle as well. She went
- 25:24Speaker 3: Janelle by then. It might've been later that she met Janelle.
- 25:28Speaker 3: But no, she really liked Cody. So I didn't know
- 25:31Speaker 3: that she wasn't really in favor of me living polygamy
- 25:36Speaker 3: until I left Cody. And then she told me and
- 25:39Speaker 3: she was like, I'm like, well, how did you feel
- 25:41Speaker 3: about me? And I asked her, I'm like, when I
- 25:43Speaker 3: first told her that I was going to leave Cody,
- 25:46Speaker 3: she's like, yeah, she was playing me just hard. And
- 25:49Speaker 3: when you married Cody, I'm like, wait, wait, wait, what?
- 25:52Speaker 3: And she was sad. She was sad that I was
- 25:54Speaker 3: marrying Cody. She was sad that I was going to
- 25:56Speaker 3: live plural marriage, but she knew that it's what I wanted.
- 25:59Speaker 3: So she supported me and I never knew that she
- 26:02Speaker 3: felt differently. And she was just a little bit heartbroken
- 26:04Speaker 3: that I was going to live plural marriage because it
- 26:06Speaker 3: was so hard on her. It was just hard on her.
- 26:08Speaker 3: And she was sad and she really felt like it
- 26:10Speaker 3: wasn't a lifestyle that honored women and respected women enough.
- 26:16Speaker 3: And so for her, she thought that it just, that
- 26:19Speaker 3: I wouldn't thrive in it because I was already just
- 26:22Speaker 3: strong and independent at that point.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I think it's totally fascinating. I'm totally fascinated to have
- 26:30Speaker 1: enjoyed and watched it for so many reasons and analyzed
- 26:33Speaker 1: it and compared it to my own marriage of 23 years,
- 26:36Speaker 1: which is a traditional marriage. and seen and joked about
- 26:40Speaker 1: it in my standup of why you'd want a sister wife.
- 26:43Speaker 1: And like, at a certain point, do you really care
- 26:46Speaker 1: if he's over at somebody else's house? Like, you know,
- 26:49Speaker 1: it's nice having your own bedroom and watching your own shows.
- 26:52Speaker 1: And like, I, so I, I got it. Um, But
- 26:57Speaker 1: I wonder, like, I have so many questions, but one
- 27:00Speaker 1: is we see your wedding photo.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:02Speaker 1: And he's wearing this white suit. Did he wear that
- 27:06Speaker 1: white tuxedo for any other weddings?
- 27:09Speaker 3: No, that was a rental. It was a tuxedo rental.
- 27:12Speaker 3: And whenever I look at that dress now, I'm like, oh,
- 27:14Speaker 3: my God, I don't even know what David looks at dress.
- 27:16Speaker 3: He's like, wow, babe. I'm like, stop it. Don't talk
- 27:18Speaker 3: to me. I liked it then. Yeah.
- 27:23Speaker 1: So last night in the episode, we see that he goes, well,
- 27:27Speaker 1: my mistake. It's my fault that this marriage ended. thinking
- 27:32Speaker 1: he's finally going to take some responsibility of saying like,
- 27:35Speaker 1: I didn't honor her. I, you know, she always had
- 27:38Speaker 1: to be the happy, fun one and, and supportive yet.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I could be an unsupportive asshole anytime I wanted. Like
- 27:45Speaker 1: I get it now. He says, well, it's my fault
- 27:48Speaker 1: because I married a woman I didn't love.
- 27:50Speaker 3: I know Heather, we were just talking about this morning,
- 27:52Speaker 3: David and I just barely said the exact same conversation
- 27:55Speaker 3: that we are having right now. We're like there. We
- 27:57Speaker 3: are waiting for this.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Like, I should have taken care of.
- 28:00Speaker 3: My family better. I should have, you know, spent more.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Cause at the beginning, before Robin came along, I really
- 28:05Speaker 3: felt like he was very equal with his time. I
- 28:08Speaker 3: really felt like he was. And then Robin came along
- 28:10Speaker 3: and I think he finally found the love of his life.
- 28:12Speaker 3: And he's like, Hey, whatever, whatever. But yeah, no, we
- 28:18Speaker 3: were just talking about that. I'm like, how, why can't
- 28:19Speaker 3: he just admit that he used to love me? I
- 28:21Speaker 3: don't know, but I really feel like he used to
- 28:24Speaker 3: love me. I, the thing is, is when I read
- 28:26Speaker 3: the book, I found out in the book that he
- 28:29Speaker 3: said he didn't love me at the beginning of our marriage.
- 28:31Speaker 3: And that's when I was like, excuse me, what? We
- 28:34Speaker 3: had a lot of conversations after that, for sure.
- 28:36Speaker 1: That was where he described the nacho scene. Oh, gosh.
- 28:40Speaker 1: That you were eating nachos and he was extremely turned
- 28:43Speaker 1: off by you eating the nachos.
- 28:45Speaker 3: I know, I didn't know.
- 28:46Speaker 1: And so you're reading that like, what the hell? And
- 28:48Speaker 1: now you're how many years into the television show?
- 28:51Speaker 3: 14 years, truly is 13. And I was pregnant with her.
- 28:56Speaker 3: And I gave birth to her on episode four. That
- 28:59Speaker 3: still is one of my favorite episodes. I do have
- 29:01Speaker 3: to say we watch it on her birthday quite frequently.
- 29:04Speaker 1: So when the show started, it started with you guys
- 29:08Speaker 1: having Robin about to join. We never saw a season
- 29:12Speaker 1: without Robin.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Right. She like episode two. She's in episode two, right
- 29:16Speaker 3: at the very, very beginning. She was part of our family.
- 29:19Speaker 3: So when she first started coming into the family, it
- 29:22Speaker 3: was around the same time that the producer and, and
- 29:27Speaker 3: we were having a conversation about doing the show. So
- 29:30Speaker 3: we talked with her, excuse me, I'm getting a tissue.
- 29:34Speaker 3: I'm so sorry. We talked with her about it too.
- 29:37Speaker 3: And she, it took her a while, you know, it's
- 29:39Speaker 3: a lot, it's a lot to process. And we'd already
- 29:41Speaker 3: been thinking about it for a little while. But she
- 29:43Speaker 3: agreed to be part of the show as well. But
- 29:46Speaker 3: it was the same time that we went public. So
- 29:48Speaker 3: she was on board the whole time.
- 29:51Speaker 1: And let's talk a little bit about that. So you're
- 29:52Speaker 1: living your life. You're, you're married at this point for
- 29:56Speaker 1: how many years before you guys start discussing doing a
- 30:00Speaker 1: reality show?
- 30:00Speaker 3: It was about 15, 14 years. We started, Oh, my
- 30:05Speaker 3: screen went dark. Sorry. So about 14 years, we started
- 30:07Speaker 3: discussing it. So I was involved in a group of
- 30:10Speaker 3: people who represented polygamy to the outside world. So there
- 30:13Speaker 3: was like a couple of people from each of the
- 30:15Speaker 3: polygamous sex in Utah and And we would go and
- 30:19Speaker 3: speak to hospitals and the news and different channels. We
- 30:23Speaker 3: were on BBC, we were on different things. And then
- 30:27Speaker 3: we did like a pilot show for in New York.
- 30:30Speaker 3: So we had done some things. And so I was
- 30:34Speaker 3: contacted through that, our producer. Now he contacted me and
- 30:39Speaker 3: we started talking and then I referred him to Cody
- 30:42Speaker 3: and they started talking about doing a show. And so
- 30:45Speaker 3: he just wanted a documentary. And it's like, look, when
- 30:47Speaker 3: you're a polygamist, you can't just do a documentary showing
- 30:51Speaker 3: your whole polygamist life because it was a felony back then.
- 30:53Speaker 3: And I'm like, we'll lose our jobs. You can't do that.
- 30:56Speaker 3: So me going public by myself was fine. I never
- 30:59Speaker 3: used my last name or anything like that. But us
- 31:01Speaker 3: going public as a family, we would have lost our jobs.
- 31:04Speaker 3: And we did. We had to move because of the
- 31:06Speaker 3: threat of like the state or like the county threatened us.
- 31:11Speaker 1: So then when you, okay, so what was your relationship
- 31:16Speaker 1: with reality TV growing up? Did you watch real world?
- 31:19Speaker 1: Did you, did you guys enjoy reality TV? Were you
- 31:22Speaker 1: a fan of it? Did you think of what it
- 31:25Speaker 1: would mean to be on a show? I mean, you
- 31:27Speaker 1: probably didn't think it would go 17 years, but like,
- 31:30Speaker 1: what was your, like, how much did you guys really
- 31:33Speaker 1: discuss what this would mean to you?
- 31:35Speaker 3: We didn't know. I went in without really, I didn't
- 31:38Speaker 3: know anything. I didn't really watch a lot of reality TV.
- 31:41Speaker 3: We'd watched American Idol. But that was about it. We
- 31:45Speaker 3: loved American Idol. But no, I never watched really much
- 31:49Speaker 3: of anything. And we were pretty, we were blown away.
- 31:54Speaker 3: It was overwhelming. Overwhelming that people accepted us. Heather, honestly,
- 31:59Speaker 3: we were really putting ourselves out there because to us,
- 32:02Speaker 3: The whole outside world was scary. Like monogamous were all scary.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Everybody was scary because I was raised to believe that
- 32:08Speaker 3: if people in the outside world knew that I was
- 32:10Speaker 3: a polygamist, my dad would be arrested and he would
- 32:13Speaker 3: be taken away from us and we'd never have my
- 32:15Speaker 3: dad in our life again. And I was grown up.
- 32:18Speaker 3: I was raised with that. We're thinking the outside world
- 32:21Speaker 3: was scary. Even though I was raised with so much love.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I had the best childhood. And it was,
- 32:26Speaker 3: I had so much fun and raising our kids was fun.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I loved it. But at some point
- 32:32Speaker 3: you realize, anyway, we just didn't know. We didn't know.
- 32:36Speaker 3: So we started the show. And I remember one time
- 32:39Speaker 3: we're out to eat at a restaurant and I went
- 32:41Speaker 3: to the bathroom, in the bathroom, and a lady came
- 32:44Speaker 3: in and she followed me to the bathroom. And she's like,
- 32:46Speaker 3: I'm a Mormon. And I was really opposed to your
- 32:49Speaker 3: show because I thought that you guys were an abomination.
- 32:52Speaker 3: So I wasn't gonna watch your show, but then I
- 32:53Speaker 3: was sick. And I started clicking channels and I bumped
- 32:57Speaker 3: into your show. And I started watching it and I
- 33:00Speaker 3: couldn't believe your guys' family. And I think you guys
- 33:04Speaker 3: are amazing. And the way that you raise your kids
- 33:06Speaker 3: is beautiful. And the way that you problem solve is beautiful.
- 33:09Speaker 3: And I love how you talk through things. And now
- 33:11Speaker 3: it's a family show and we watch it every Sunday.
- 33:14Speaker 3: And I went back to the table and I'm like,
- 33:16Speaker 3: you guys have to believe what just happened to me.
- 33:18Speaker 3: And I told everybody and I've just been blown away
- 33:22Speaker 3: by the support of so much support and so many
- 33:27Speaker 3: people that have reached out and said that are, you know,
- 33:30Speaker 3: something that we did or said touched their life and
- 33:33Speaker 3: touched their soul and help them. How overwhelming is that?
- 33:37Speaker 3: I don't know if it's like any other reality TV show.
- 33:39Speaker 3: I don't know. I just know my experience and it
- 33:41Speaker 3: has been humbling because people are always like what you said,
- 33:45Speaker 3: touched my soul, what you said inspired me. And it's been,
- 33:49Speaker 3: it's been overwhelming completely.
- 33:51Speaker 1: So the show starts and you, How many seasons are you...
- 33:57Speaker 1: Where are you before you moved to the Las Vegas cul-de-sac?
- 34:02Speaker 3: The Las Vegas was season two.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Oh, so that was very soon. So maybe I have
- 34:06Speaker 1: been watching the whole thing.
- 34:07Speaker 3: You have.
- 34:08Speaker 1: So to me, I thought the Las Vegas cul-de-sac was...
- 34:13Speaker 1: the most perfect situation for everybody because you were close
- 34:17Speaker 1: and you had your own house and it was easy
- 34:20Speaker 1: for him to get around and the kids could just
- 34:21Speaker 1: walk across the street, but you still had your own privacy.
- 34:25Speaker 1: So what was so confusing to me is why did
- 34:29Speaker 1: you go? Why? Who found Coyote Pass? And why do
- 34:32Speaker 1: you think Flagstaff was where you should go?
- 34:35Speaker 3: I know, right?
- 34:36Speaker 1: Oh, gosh.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Oh, you know, maybe it was season three. Doesn't matter.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Doesn't matter. Okay. So we still don't really know why
- 34:44Speaker 3: we moved from the cul-de-sac. I swear. I don't know
- 34:47Speaker 3: all the way. My kids still ask. Aspen still. She's like,
- 34:53Speaker 3: why in the world did you move? And I'm like.
- 34:55Speaker 3: I don't even really know to be completely honest. Like Cody,
- 34:59Speaker 3: I was, he started talking about how it was unsafe
- 35:01Speaker 3: for our kids. I'm like, my kids, they thrive here.
- 35:04Speaker 3: I don't know what you're talking about. Um, but it
- 35:07Speaker 3: was more like, uh, it was going to happen. And
- 35:10Speaker 3: so being a team player, you know, I'm just like, well, okay,
- 35:13Speaker 3: I guess we're going to move. And then we went
- 35:16Speaker 3: to Flagstaff, Cody and I went, we drove there and
- 35:18Speaker 3: he's like, you got to see Flagstaff. It's amazing. And
- 35:21Speaker 3: he and Janelle had been there before, I guess. Um,
- 35:24Speaker 3: And we went to the property at Coyote Pass. And
- 35:26Speaker 3: I'm like, yes, we I felt like once we saw
- 35:29Speaker 3: once I saw Coyote Pass, I felt like in the cul-de-sac. Yes,
- 35:32Speaker 3: it looked like it was perfect, but we were already
- 35:34Speaker 3: really broken there. I felt like our lives were very
- 35:38Speaker 3: separate in the cul-de-sac, even though we were right there.
- 35:41Speaker 3: We could it was just very separate. Like I lived
- 35:43Speaker 3: a very separate life with my children in in in
- 35:46Speaker 3: Las Vegas. And I felt like Coyote Pass was going
- 35:49Speaker 3: to be a restarting for us. And we were going
- 35:52Speaker 3: to go there and we were going to all move
- 35:54Speaker 3: on to the property. And finally, we were going to
- 35:57Speaker 3: be like one family. It really was going to be
- 35:59Speaker 3: very uniting. That's really what I thought Coyote Pass. So
- 36:02Speaker 3: to me, it was a beautiful restart that our family
- 36:04Speaker 3: really needed because I didn't think that Las Vegas, it just,
- 36:09Speaker 3: we just felt very broken and disjointed in Las Vegas.
- 36:12Speaker 3: But guess what? It didn't really work like that when
- 36:15Speaker 3: we moved to Flagstaff.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:16Speaker 1: I mean, it got way worse because you didn't have
- 36:18Speaker 1: houses to move on to. So now you're living in
- 36:21Speaker 1: three different houses that aren't close together and you're becoming
- 36:25Speaker 1: more and more separate. And, and then like, when did
- 36:31Speaker 1: you start to, well, one thing I was going to
- 36:33Speaker 1: say about watching Sister Wives is I feel like you
- 36:37Speaker 1: were in, in believing in the fundamentals of polygamy as
- 36:41Speaker 1: a woman. It's like the ultimate lesson in selflessness.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Yes.
- 36:47Speaker 1: You are to be selfless. You know, you shouldn't be jealous.
- 36:51Speaker 1: You shouldn't be jealous. You shouldn't think about yourself. It's
- 36:55Speaker 1: ultimate selflessness. And so I feel like that moment when
- 36:58Speaker 1: he marries Robin and they decide with Mary, Mary, you
- 37:03Speaker 1: need to give up your legal marriage. So that he
- 37:07Speaker 1: can legally marry Robin because she has kids he needs
- 37:12Speaker 1: to adopt and your child is whatever, almost over 18
- 37:15Speaker 1: and it won't affect that person, you know, her child,
- 37:18Speaker 1: it won't affect your child. So I felt like when
- 37:21Speaker 1: she did that as a sister wife, she was, whether
- 37:26Speaker 1: she meant to or not as a viewer, that was
- 37:28Speaker 1: the ultimate martyr move. Like I will, I, I'm now like,
- 37:34Speaker 1: I grew up Catholic. So it was like nuns were,
- 37:37Speaker 1: and I remember being a young girl being like feeling
- 37:40Speaker 1: guilty that I didn't want to be a nun because
- 37:42Speaker 1: it was taught like the nuns are the most selfless, fabulous,
- 37:45Speaker 1: you know, and I was like, well, maybe after I
- 37:48Speaker 1: get married and have kids and my husband dies, then
- 37:51Speaker 1: I'll be a nun. Would that be good enough? Like
- 37:53Speaker 1: that was just in my head. My parents weren't making
- 37:55Speaker 1: me be a nun, but I think when you're sometimes
- 37:57Speaker 1: fed this thing and as a girl, you want so
- 38:00Speaker 1: bad to be good. I want to be a good girl.
- 38:04Speaker 1: I want to not bother anyone. I want to be
- 38:07Speaker 1: seen as easygoing this and that. And it's like the
- 38:10Speaker 1: last person you're putting on your priority list is yourself.
- 38:14Speaker 3: Yeah. Right. Yeah. No, I felt like that. So first,
- 38:17Speaker 3: let me just clarify too. I don't know what conversations
- 38:20Speaker 3: Mary and Cody and Robin had about divorcing and all
- 38:25Speaker 3: of that. Mary says it was her idea. do the
- 38:28Speaker 3: divorcing i don't know but i agree with you even
- 38:32Speaker 3: as a like that it wasn't my choice to do
- 38:36Speaker 3: i was overwhelmed i was over like overwhelmed it was
- 38:41Speaker 3: blown away i was blown away that she would divorce
- 38:44Speaker 3: cody legally in order for him to marry robin i
- 38:47Speaker 3: thought it was the absolute ultimate selfless move i thought
- 38:50Speaker 3: it was so beyond sweet of her and amazing of
- 38:53Speaker 3: her and i i could just thought it was amazing.
- 38:56Speaker 3: So then I thought it was just super, super cool.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Cause you're, you are right. It is team player more
- 39:02Speaker 3: than anything. Um, that's why leaving was super difficult too,
- 39:06Speaker 3: because my whole identity wasn't just a wife. If anything,
- 39:09Speaker 3: to me, wife was secondary. First of all, I was
- 39:13Speaker 3: a mom to all of these kids. I was a
- 39:15Speaker 3: mom to 18 kids and everything that I did involved
- 39:19Speaker 3: all of the kids and the whole family. And so
- 39:22Speaker 3: Family parties, family get togethers, when my friends came over,
- 39:26Speaker 3: everything that I did was all about everybody. And I
- 39:31Speaker 3: didn't understand. Like I remember one point when Robin first
- 39:34Speaker 3: came into the cup, into the family, she started talking about,
- 39:36Speaker 3: she goes, cause you guys are a couple and blah, blah, blah.
- 39:39Speaker 3: I'm like, what do you mean a couple? And she goes, well,
- 39:42Speaker 3: you guys are all couples. And I said, no, we're
- 39:45Speaker 3: not couples. And she goes, well, no, Cody and I,
- 39:48Speaker 3: because she was saying that her and Cody were a
- 39:49Speaker 3: couple and stuff. I'm like, there's no couples in our family.
- 39:52Speaker 3: I don't know what you mean. And she goes, well,
- 39:54Speaker 3: you and Cody are a couple. I'm like, no, we're not.
- 39:57Speaker 3: We're not a couple. That's not what it is. We're
- 39:59Speaker 3: a family. And so the whole couple mentality was something
- 40:03Speaker 3: I didn't even begin to understand, didn't even grasp it
- 40:06Speaker 3: because it was so far out of my thinking because
- 40:08Speaker 3: it really was about making sure that everybody's needs were met.
- 40:12Speaker 3: And the whole family had this amazing experience and all
- 40:15Speaker 3: everything that I could do to make sure that everybody
- 40:18Speaker 3: was happy and had fun.
- 40:20Speaker 1: So when you did, when you did the schedule and
- 40:22Speaker 1: you had your, whatever, one or two nights with Cody,
- 40:27Speaker 1: would you look forward to it? Would you dread it?
- 40:30Speaker 1: When did you stop caring about it? Like, I kind
- 40:32Speaker 1: of wonder, like, was there a time where you were like,
- 40:36Speaker 1: it's fine. Your babies are little stay with Robin. Like,
- 40:39Speaker 1: You know, because there's women in traditional marriages that know
- 40:45Speaker 1: that their man steps out and they're like, I'll just
- 40:49Speaker 1: put the blinders on because I don't really care. I'm
- 40:51Speaker 1: happy to have the time alone. Like, I wonder if
- 40:52Speaker 1: at a certain point, because that was always the case,
- 40:55Speaker 1: you really had like no jealousy and started to care
- 40:59Speaker 1: less and less and less.
- 41:01Speaker 3: So it's like reverse. So when I was first married,
- 41:03Speaker 3: I'd say for the first 15 years, I didn't really care.
- 41:06Speaker 3: My needs were being met. He was around a lot
- 41:09Speaker 3: of the time. He was more fair with his time
- 41:12Speaker 3: and I didn't really care when he wasn't around. I'd
- 41:15Speaker 3: be like, Oh man, I can watch whatever shows I want.
- 41:17Speaker 3: And I loved it when he wasn't around. But then
- 41:19Speaker 3: when he was around, I loved that too. And then
- 41:23Speaker 3: Robin came into the family and everything just became all
- 41:26Speaker 3: about Robin. And I really thought that would decrease. Like,
- 41:30Speaker 3: of course, at first he's going to go over at
- 41:32Speaker 3: her house more. I remember what it was like to
- 41:34Speaker 3: have newborn babies. When you have a baby, that baby
- 41:37Speaker 3: takes up all of your time and you spend all
- 41:39Speaker 3: your time with that baby and the other kids kind
- 41:40Speaker 3: of get neglected a bit and you don't mean to.
- 41:42Speaker 3: And you do everything that you can to make sure
- 41:43Speaker 3: that they aren't neglected, but it's just going to happen.
- 41:46Speaker 3: So I just figured it was like that a little bit,
- 41:48Speaker 3: but that didn't even out. And he would come over
- 41:51Speaker 3: in the evenings. Like he's always adamant. He always says,
- 41:54Speaker 3: I was very fair with my schedule. He was over
- 41:57Speaker 3: at my house in the beginning, one out of every
- 41:59Speaker 3: four nights. And then when he stopped going to Mary's house,
- 42:03Speaker 3: it was one of every three nights. Yes, he was
- 42:06Speaker 3: there in the nights. Yes, for sure. So after six o'clock,
- 42:09Speaker 3: he would walk right in. It's just that we saw
- 42:11Speaker 3: his car parked over at Robin's house. So we knew
- 42:14Speaker 3: he was in the cul-de-sac. And we didn't really... I
- 42:16Speaker 3: didn't understand why he couldn't spend... Anyway, blah, blah, whole
- 42:19Speaker 3: big thing. But I really just... I started to like
- 42:24Speaker 3: it less and less and become frustrated. And then when
- 42:28Speaker 3: we moved to, it's like through the cul-de-sac. When we
- 42:30Speaker 3: lived in the cul-de-sac, he would come over and sometimes
- 42:32Speaker 3: I would be so mad because he like, it was
- 42:35Speaker 3: a Saturday. So why couldn't he come over during the
- 42:37Speaker 3: day on Saturday? I knew he wasn't working, you know,
- 42:40Speaker 3: but he still would only appear at six o'clock at night.
- 42:42Speaker 3: So it's like, okay, whatever. So once you realize that
- 42:46Speaker 3: you don't really matter, then his time became something that
- 42:50Speaker 3: was really frustrating to me. And then we moved to
- 42:53Speaker 3: Flagstaff and we were in Flagstaff for about six months.
- 42:56Speaker 3: I would say, let's see, about six months when I
- 42:59Speaker 3: started just being like, you know what? I'm done waiting
- 43:01Speaker 3: for him. I'm done waiting. I'd been waiting for him
- 43:04Speaker 3: for 10 years to go do things, to go have activities,
- 43:08Speaker 3: to travel with us, to hang out with us. And
- 43:10Speaker 3: I realized he just wasn't going to be part of
- 43:12Speaker 3: our life. So I started just doing things without him.
- 43:14Speaker 3: We went kayaking every like at least once a week.
- 43:17Speaker 3: We went hiking all the time. I started going on
- 43:20Speaker 3: trips without him. And I became so much more independent
- 43:23Speaker 3: when Flagstaff, when I realized, you know what? He's chosen.
- 43:27Speaker 3: He's chosen Robin and he's just going to stay there.
- 43:30Speaker 3: So then let's just have fun.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Let's go to the moment where he does the
- 43:36Speaker 1: big presentation of the one house of the one house.
- 43:42Speaker 1: And Janelle's like, I'm down. Robin's like, great. And you
- 43:45Speaker 1: are just- Limit. Like abso-fucking-lutely not. And at that point,
- 43:52Speaker 1: were you thinking, were you just imagining what it'd be
- 43:55Speaker 1: like to be trapped in a house with all these people?
- 43:59Speaker 1: Or were you like- I know I got to leave.
- 44:03Speaker 1: I just don't know when. Where was your mind when
- 44:05Speaker 1: you saw that big house? Because I thought that was
- 44:07Speaker 1: the first.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Time that you really saw. That was terrible. Sorry, my phone.
- 44:11Speaker 1: That was the time I felt as a viewer that
- 44:16Speaker 1: you were just like, no. And I was like, wait
- 44:18Speaker 1: a minute. What do we not know as a viewer?
- 44:23Speaker 3: I thought I would be trapped. And it would be great.
- 44:27Speaker 3: I now would be able to be in a house
- 44:30Speaker 3: where Cody would never come to my part of the house.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Maybe he'd come there to sleep, but that would be it.
- 44:37Speaker 3: So we're going to see even less of him in
- 44:39Speaker 3: one house, because I'm going to be honest with you,
- 44:41Speaker 3: he's always going to be at Robin's house then. Why
- 44:42Speaker 3: would he ever be in mine? He's always going to
- 44:46Speaker 3: stay in his part of his house. And what we
- 44:49Speaker 3: suddenly start going visiting him in his part of the house,
- 44:52Speaker 3: that's what I imagine it would be like. And I'm like,
- 44:54Speaker 3: my part of the house would be anything rather than
- 44:58Speaker 3: just a little tiny place for him to stop over occasionally.
- 45:03Speaker 3: I just knew it wouldn't be a good idea. And
- 45:05Speaker 3: my kids afterwards were like, please don't do that. We
- 45:08Speaker 3: don't live with you anymore, but please do not do that.
- 45:12Speaker 3: And I'm like, no.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Do not accept the large house.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Do not accept the whole big one house. Because to them,
- 45:17Speaker 3: when they lived in one house before, it was just crowded.
- 45:20Speaker 3: There wasn't a lot of room. And Cody was around
- 45:24Speaker 3: all the places all the time. And having like individual time,
- 45:29Speaker 3: I just felt like I wasn't really, in the end,
- 45:31Speaker 3: I just felt like I had, like I was a wife.
- 45:34Speaker 3: I didn't feel like I was a wife. And so
- 45:36Speaker 3: one house meant to me that I wouldn't be seen
- 45:39Speaker 3: as a wife. I would just be like a stop.
- 45:43Speaker 1: And so that's, I, so do you feel like that
- 45:45Speaker 1: was kind of your aha moment? Because then you still
- 45:48Speaker 1: played along, like, yeah, you still played along a little bit.
- 45:51Speaker 1: And then you guys talked your individual lots. So not leaving,
- 45:56Speaker 1: not leaving. I didn't think I would be leaving back then.
- 45:59Speaker 3: No way. Vaguely, I guess. Maybe vaguely it was like,
- 46:03Speaker 3: then I'd never be able. Yes. You know what? A
- 46:05Speaker 3: little bit. It was vaguely was like, well, then I'd
- 46:08Speaker 3: never be able to leave because I'd never have anything
- 46:11Speaker 3: in my name. So I could leave and have something
- 46:14Speaker 3: in my name for like my legacy or what I
- 46:17Speaker 3: was going to do with my next life. But leaving
- 46:19Speaker 3: wasn't a concrete thought. It was only this idea of leaving. So, um,
- 46:24Speaker 3: The lots at Coyote Pass, once Cody was like, well,
- 46:28Speaker 3: we can't put you at that lot. Because before we
- 46:30Speaker 3: kind of talked about different lots that we wanted. And
- 46:32Speaker 3: I picked a lot and I really loved that lot.
- 46:34Speaker 3: And then our next family meeting, he's like, you don't
- 46:36Speaker 3: get that lot. You're going to have to have another lot.
- 46:38Speaker 3: And I'm like, so you've totally displaced me now. I
- 46:41Speaker 3: don't even have a place anymore here. But the final
- 46:45Speaker 3: thing for me was like Isabel's surgery. That was like...
- 46:49Speaker 3: done that was like absolute that was it I'm like
- 46:54Speaker 3: you can't because he said to her he goes I
- 46:58Speaker 3: can't leave my family for that long and afterwards Isabel
- 47:01Speaker 3: goes I thought we were a family I thought he
- 47:04Speaker 3: was my dad so if he can't leave he can't
- 47:07Speaker 3: be with us because he has to stay with his
- 47:10Speaker 3: family what does that mean what am I and she
- 47:13Speaker 3: was like how can I be really what am I
- 47:16Speaker 3: so I was like oh We're done. I can't be
- 47:19Speaker 3: married to a guy who doesn't respect us as his
- 47:22Speaker 3: family and thinks of somebody else as his family. If
- 47:24Speaker 3: he thinks that someone else is his family, why is
- 47:27Speaker 3: he still married to me? Why is he still pretending
- 47:30Speaker 3: that polygamy works if he can't leave his family to
- 47:34Speaker 3: be with his daughter? And I just didn't understand that.
- 47:38Speaker 3: It was only four. So it was a total of
- 47:41Speaker 3: like three and a half weeks that we were gone.
- 47:45Speaker 3: Three and a half weeks. It's like less than a month.
- 47:47Speaker 2: A month.
- 47:47Speaker 3: Let's just say a month. It would have been a month.
- 47:50Speaker 1: And I think that's what happens with a lot of
- 47:52Speaker 1: women in traditional marriage is you're like, well, I can
- 47:58Speaker 1: continue on not having any romance. I can continue on
- 48:02Speaker 1: not having sex, not being loved, you know, because he's
- 48:05Speaker 1: such a great dad. But then when you are faced
- 48:08Speaker 1: with the fact that... This is not a parental move
- 48:13Speaker 1: that you respect. In fact, you're like very disturbed by it.
- 48:17Speaker 1: And your own child, you can't even protect your own
- 48:21Speaker 1: child from knowing the truth is when I think you
- 48:24Speaker 1: were like, then what is the point? What the hell
- 48:27Speaker 1: am I doing?
- 48:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:30Speaker 1: You know, so I yeah, I definitely saw that in
- 48:33Speaker 1: watching it, that that was like a moment. Now, you
- 48:36Speaker 1: said when he's not working. What does Cody do when
- 48:39Speaker 1: he's not filming the show?
- 48:40Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 48:41Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 48:42Speaker 3: He's not at my house, girl.
- 48:43Speaker 1: No idea. You don't know what job this is?
- 48:46Speaker 3: No, he runs amok all the time. He's very disorganized.
- 48:50Speaker 3: And he just runs amok. I have no idea what
- 48:52Speaker 3: he does. I'm sure maybe I don't know.
- 48:56Speaker 1: My favorite part was during COVID when you were like,
- 48:59Speaker 1: what does the nanny do? What does the nanny do?
- 49:06Speaker 1: And I was like, what does Cody do? It's what
- 49:09Speaker 1: I was thinking.
- 49:09Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, we don't know. Like, I have no idea.
- 49:12Speaker 3: I have no idea. You know, after Isabel's surgery, too,
- 49:15Speaker 3: we had a fateful conversation about intimacy. And he even
- 49:19Speaker 3: admitted he's like. we're not going to have an intimate
- 49:21Speaker 3: marriage anymore. We're not having sex anymore. Nothing like that.
- 49:24Speaker 1: I'm like, OK, how many how many years had it
- 49:28Speaker 1: been since you guys even attempted to like have intercourse
- 49:33Speaker 1: when you had that conversation?
- 49:35Speaker 3: Well, it was like five times in one year. like
- 49:40Speaker 3: a couple of years before that.
- 49:42Speaker 1: So it was like teetering off to new and then
- 49:46Speaker 1: it had been a couple of years.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Then it was like done. And I'm like, I can't, why,
- 49:51Speaker 3: why are we? And so it was more like, you
- 49:53Speaker 3: know what? Maybe eventually things will get better and stuff.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Maybe it will get better. And then we had that conversation.
- 50:00Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, thank you. I guess we're not going
- 50:03Speaker 3: to pretend anymore. That works for me. Like it had been,
- 50:07Speaker 3: Just months. It hadn't been a couple of years. But
- 50:11Speaker 3: it was so few and frequent, doesn't really matter kind
- 50:13Speaker 3: of a thing. The thing is this too. There's sex
- 50:17Speaker 3: and then there's intimacy. And what we didn't have was intimacy.
- 50:21Speaker 3: Even though we'd have like the act. The intimacy with
- 50:24Speaker 3: it was gone. So the intimacy itself had been gone
- 50:29Speaker 3: for years. Years. And when you don't have the real
- 50:32Speaker 3: wonderful conversations and heartfelt moments where... You just sit and
- 50:38Speaker 3: you be with that person and you really have a
- 50:40Speaker 3: soul connection and this deep level of love. That is
- 50:46Speaker 3: what we didn't have for years. And finally, he said
- 50:50Speaker 3: he wasn't interested. And I'm like, oh, I guess we're
- 50:53Speaker 3: being honest. Awesome. So next time he came over, I'm like,
- 50:56Speaker 3: you're done. You're not sleeping in my bed anymore. I'm
- 50:57Speaker 3: through with this. I don't care where you sleep. It
- 50:59Speaker 3: doesn't matter to me. And I started boxing up the stuff.
- 51:02Speaker 3: And that was awesome. That day was a great day.
- 51:06Speaker 1: And so, you know, as a viewer, we're all like,
- 51:10Speaker 1: why wouldn't Robin be thrilled with this? Why wouldn't Robin
- 51:14Speaker 1: be thrilled with now I can have, you know, we
- 51:19Speaker 1: don't have to hide it anymore. He doesn't have to
- 51:20Speaker 1: pretend that he wants to go over to the other
- 51:23Speaker 1: wife's house just because we really are each other's like soulmates.
- 51:27Speaker 1: And the fact that she was so, so upset about
- 51:30Speaker 1: you leaving and then Janelle not being happy and then
- 51:35Speaker 1: Mary being the last one. I think as a viewer,
- 51:38Speaker 1: we were like, is she crying because this could affect
- 51:42Speaker 1: the future of the show, which is, you know, what
- 51:45Speaker 1: we're all doing here as a career. Two, also, is
- 51:49Speaker 1: it that, you know, she doesn't want him around all
- 51:52Speaker 1: the time. She wants to share the burden of Cody's
- 51:56Speaker 1: personality with three other women.
- 51:59Speaker 3: Well, she hasn't shared that for a long time, but
- 52:01Speaker 3: you can go ahead and finish. Go ahead.
- 52:02Speaker 1: No, no, but I said, or the third is just like... Um,
- 52:07Speaker 1: she doesn't want the world to think that she was
- 52:09Speaker 1: the catalyst. Like she was like, I think so often
- 52:12Speaker 1: people in watching it were like, she's keeping him. It's
- 52:16Speaker 1: their weird COVID rules. She's saying that she has the
- 52:19Speaker 1: younger kids. So she's keeping them from the other kids.
- 52:22Speaker 1: And I think she, she wanted to make sure that
- 52:24Speaker 1: everyone saw, no, look, she's the one that's the most
- 52:27Speaker 1: upset that these marriages are ending. So she must not
- 52:30Speaker 1: be the selfish one because sister wives are all about
- 52:33Speaker 1: being selfless, you know?
- 52:36Speaker 3: I don't know if she ever, I think she really
- 52:39Speaker 3: wanted to. I looked at the episodes last night, of course.
- 52:43Speaker 3: I watch them too. And I remember watching me going,
- 52:46Speaker 3: I don't think she wanted to be a sister wife.
- 52:49Speaker 3: And I would say at the beginning, I'm sure she did.
- 52:51Speaker 3: And I think she had this ideal and situation that
- 52:53Speaker 3: she wanted. And I'm sure she wants to be a
- 52:55Speaker 3: sister wife. And I'm sure she wanted the whole family.
- 52:58Speaker 3: But I don't know if she knew how to go
- 53:02Speaker 3: about it. You can't just know that you put all
- 53:05Speaker 3: these expectations on your husband that he has to be
- 53:08Speaker 3: around and he's got to help with the kids and stuff.
- 53:10Speaker 3: And this is the thing. I'm making so many assumptions, Heather.
- 53:13Speaker 3: So many assumptions. Because I don't know what conversations are
- 53:16Speaker 3: like in her head. Thank God I don't have to
- 53:19Speaker 3: live in her head. I don't know how she feels.
- 53:23Speaker 3: I have no idea. She says that she wants to
- 53:27Speaker 3: live plural marriage, but I didn't see enough proof of
- 53:30Speaker 3: that with my own eyes to know, to believe. her
- 53:34Speaker 3: that she wanted to live it. Because I couldn't monopolize Cody.
- 53:38Speaker 3: I didn't want to. He was a lot of work,
- 53:40Speaker 3: by the way. And I'm sure part of her is like, holy,
- 53:42Speaker 3: what am I going to do with him full time?
- 53:44Speaker 3: I'm sure that's part of it. Or maybe it's not.
- 53:47Speaker 3: I love having David around full time. I love it.
- 53:51Speaker 3: So maybe they have something different in their home. Maybe
- 53:53Speaker 3: they have absolute magic. And I don't know why she
- 53:56Speaker 3: can't just be happy and be okay. I found out
- 54:00Speaker 3: last night that she wants me to go up to
- 54:02Speaker 3: her verbally and say, you can have him. And I'm like, girl,
- 54:04Speaker 3: that's never going to happen. I don't know what you're
- 54:06Speaker 3: talking about.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Like off camera. I'm like, so what? You've said it
- 54:08Speaker 1: here to the world.
- 54:09Speaker 3: She wants us to go say to her off camera,
- 54:13Speaker 3: your majesty, you may have him now. No, it's never
- 54:15Speaker 3: going to happen. Yeah.
- 54:17Speaker 1: What I thought was interesting is when they had that
- 54:20Speaker 1: conversation with Mary.
- 54:21Speaker 3: I know.
- 54:23Speaker 1: And then she was like, Cody feels one way. I
- 54:25Speaker 1: feel different. It was so strange because it's like, And
- 54:29Speaker 1: then Mary would be like, yeah, but you don't even
- 54:31Speaker 1: want to hang out with me. Like, you don't bring
- 54:33Speaker 1: the kids around. You're not like, so it's not like,
- 54:35Speaker 1: what are you talking about? You're going to leave. We
- 54:37Speaker 1: have breakfast together every Sunday. Wednesday nights, you take the
- 54:41Speaker 1: kid to dance. Like, it wasn't like they had stuff
- 54:43Speaker 1: they were going on. And then this was the part
- 54:46Speaker 1: I thought was most interesting. When he says to her,
- 54:48Speaker 1: he's getting annoyed with Robin. And Cody goes, you, we
- 54:52Speaker 1: made a commitment to each other where you said, where
- 54:55Speaker 1: Robin said to Cody that, Let me know when you
- 54:58Speaker 1: stop loving me. Now, as a woman who's been married
- 55:00Speaker 1: for 23 years, and I certainly don't have a perfect marriage,
- 55:04Speaker 1: but I certainly didn't enter the marriage saying, let me
- 55:07Speaker 1: know when you're tired of this. Because I went in
- 55:11Speaker 1: with the confidence of knowing, like, we're in love. And
- 55:14Speaker 1: why would you ever stop loving the greatest woman that's
- 55:17Speaker 1: walked on earth, right?
- 55:18Speaker 3: Yeah, girl.
- 55:19Speaker 1: So it's like, I think that's really weird that she
- 55:23Speaker 1: had ever said that to him. And that tells me
- 55:25Speaker 1: that she entered this covenant or whatever feeling that insecure
- 55:33Speaker 1: whether that's a polygamous move or not it wasn't a
- 55:36Speaker 1: normal thing that I think people say when they're entering
- 55:40Speaker 1: a marriage let me know I'm tired of this I had.
- 55:43Speaker 3: No idea that conversation took place until I watched that
- 55:46Speaker 3: too yeah it's like oh because well I remember back
- 55:49Speaker 3: in Vegas I remember exactly where I was because it
- 55:51Speaker 3: shocked me so bad we were sitting in my bathroom
- 55:53Speaker 3: we had these huge bathrooms in Vegas it was beautiful
- 55:56Speaker 3: he was standing in the closet and he goes I
- 55:57Speaker 3: want you to know if you ever want to leave
- 56:00Speaker 3: I don't want it to be a fight. I don't
- 56:02Speaker 3: want us to fight. I want you to be able
- 56:03Speaker 3: to leave peacefully. And I'm all, I mean, at that
- 56:06Speaker 3: point in marriage was pretty rocky. So I was furious.
- 56:09Speaker 3: And I'm like, so we're not worth fighting for. You
- 56:13Speaker 3: wouldn't want to be like, girl, we can make this work.
- 56:16Speaker 3: Nothing like that. You would just be like, go, you
- 56:18Speaker 3: can go ahead and leave. You can leave anytime. If
- 56:21Speaker 3: you want to leave, I'll make it peaceful for you,
- 56:23Speaker 3: you know? And No, I got furious at him. I
- 56:27Speaker 3: was so mad. Why would you say that? We're already struggling.
- 56:29Speaker 3: Why wouldn't you say you would want to hold on
- 56:30Speaker 3: to this? And we're worth fighting for. No, I was furious.
- 56:33Speaker 3: And then now I'm like, oh, so I don't know.
- 56:37Speaker 3: The conversations, all of the agreements, they made agreements. That
- 56:40Speaker 3: became a word that was used a lot when Robin
- 56:43Speaker 3: started coming into the family. It was the word agreements.
- 56:46Speaker 3: They made agreements like he would promise to do this
- 56:48Speaker 3: if she did this and promised to do this. And
- 56:50Speaker 3: it was really a lot of negotiations that they had.
- 56:54Speaker 3: And that must have been one of their negotiations. And
- 56:57Speaker 3: I'm like, well, once you stopped being in love with me,
- 57:00Speaker 3: I would have loved to have been let go. You know,
- 57:03Speaker 3: I'm just saying.
- 57:06Speaker 1: I think that's so interesting that he said that because
- 57:08Speaker 1: you're right. If somebody's in a marriage where they say
- 57:13Speaker 1: to the other person, hey, if you want to go, like,
- 57:16Speaker 1: I'll be cool. I know it's probably because they really
- 57:21Speaker 1: aren't really in love. Because they're like, could you please
- 57:24Speaker 1: be the one and then we can be cool together?
- 57:26Speaker 1: Because I know if I try to leave, you're going
- 57:28Speaker 1: to make my life living hell. So I'm letting go. Yeah.
- 57:31Speaker 1: So I'm like, that's where you're like, what? But that
- 57:34Speaker 1: should be a sign that you've got to work on it.
- 57:38Speaker 1: Because one person kind of has one foot out the door.
- 57:41Speaker 3: It's like.
- 57:42Speaker 1: Leaving a job, you know, when you kind of know
- 57:44Speaker 1: your employee has one foot out the door or whatever.
- 57:46Speaker 1: It's like the same thing. Like, you've kind of shown
- 57:49Speaker 1: your cards that you're not as into this as you
- 57:52Speaker 1: were previously. So, like, I'm not going to ignore this.
- 57:56Speaker 1: And sometimes I think people are.
- 57:57Speaker 3: Like, what?
- 57:59Speaker 1: And I think with her, like, I just... It's just
- 58:04Speaker 1: really kind of like fascinating. It's just fascinating to watch
- 58:09Speaker 1: of like what their thing is. And now I think
- 58:13Speaker 1: she's just like, I really do think she wanted to
- 58:16Speaker 1: sit on the porch and be old, but still know that,
- 58:22Speaker 1: she's fine because she knows that he loved her the most.
- 58:25Speaker 1: So she's like, I don't want you guys all to
- 58:28Speaker 1: leave because I like the idea and I like all
- 58:32Speaker 1: the kids being around and I love my kids having like,
- 58:34Speaker 1: you know, 20 siblings. But like, Where is it? And
- 58:38Speaker 1: so then when he says to you, when you finally say, okay,
- 58:42Speaker 1: I'm leaving. And he's so angry about it. He's so
- 58:45Speaker 1: angry that you left because I felt like you cracked
- 58:48Speaker 1: the code of like, you, you, you cracked it open
- 58:51Speaker 1: of like this. It does. This doesn't work. This thing
- 58:54Speaker 1: that you've put out there, this polygamist doesn't work. So
- 58:57Speaker 1: what I found interesting is that when you do finally
- 58:59Speaker 1: say I'm moving on, it was like, he was so angry.
- 59:02Speaker 1: because he's like you know I I never loved you
- 59:07Speaker 1: and but I still placated this fake marriage and did
- 59:10Speaker 1: this facade and I'm so mad that you're respecting yourself
- 59:14Speaker 1: to leave and then she just kept being like you
- 59:17Speaker 1: can work on it why is it and it's like
- 59:20Speaker 1: I just don't understand why she and I still felt
- 59:22Speaker 1: it last night like she doesn't get that like You
- 59:25Speaker 1: guys weren't happy. The other women weren't happy and you
- 59:28Speaker 1: deserve to be happy like she is. And I still
- 59:30Speaker 1: felt like she didn't get it last night.
- 59:33Speaker 3: I know. I don't think so either. I think there's
- 59:36Speaker 3: some sort of disconnect or I don't know what the
- 59:40Speaker 3: deal is. I have no idea. I'm just so grateful
- 59:43Speaker 3: I don't live in her mind because I think she
- 59:46Speaker 3: must be very, very, very sad to see everything just
- 59:48Speaker 3: kind of crumble around her and realize that she's powerless
- 59:51Speaker 3: to hold it all together. She doesn't have what it
- 59:53Speaker 3: takes to hold it all together. She doesn't. And I
- 59:57Speaker 3: think that she just must feel like she's losing such
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: a thing that could have been so beautiful. And I
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: went through that grieving process five years ago. I saw
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: that there's nothing that I could do to hold everything together.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: And even though I was grasping and grasping, and I
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: remember thinking if I did this and this and this
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: and this and this, then our family would be okay
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: and it would be okay. And it was okay for
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: a little bit longer again. And then And I just
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: realized I was the only one putting in effort and
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: doing things together. I thought that's how I felt. I'm
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: sure everybody feels the same, you know. But I think
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: that it's just got to be hard to be in
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: her shoes and realize that she doesn't have the power
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: to hold the family together. And I don't know. I
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: don't talk to her. I honestly don't.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: So when Mary, when he said last night, Mary found Robin.
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: You guys, you had been living together, you know, been
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: living as a family with just the three wives and Cody. When,
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: so for like 13 years, nobody talked about bringing on
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: a fourth wife. How did this come about then?
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: So on and off, we did talk about bringing in
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: another wife. There was a couple of times where another
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: woman was interested in joining the family. And like one
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: of the women that were interested was just interested in
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: a relationship with Cody alone. And I'm like, no, that's
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: not going to work for us. And then there was
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: another woman who was interested and that one going all right.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: But then all of a sudden that was shut down.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: So that was over. But we were interested in there's
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: another couple of. of women that wanted to join our
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: family that we talked to for a bit, but it
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: was just something when you live plural marriage, you're never really.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: Do you ever.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Wonder about those other, do you ever wonder about those
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: other women? Like what if.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: That was the one that you pushed for where things
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: could have gone.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: I don't know. There was a woman that he was
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: interested in. He was even like engaged to, and he
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: called off the wedding before he was only married to Mary.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: And then he, there was this other woman that he
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: dated and I wasn't a big fan of hers. And
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: so I was like, well, if he marries her, I'm
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: not going to marry him. That's all that comes down to.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: And he called off the wedding like a week before
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: they got married. And then I was like, oh, I
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: guess I could marry Cody again. You know what I mean?
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: It does make a difference. Like the women make a
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: big difference.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Yes. So you got married. We loved meeting your husband now.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: We're going to see the wedding. And I do love
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: that moment last night when you're like, When I'm alone
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: with David and I feel so connected. And then you
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: were like, now I get it. Now I get why
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: he wanted to stay there, what their connection was. And like,
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: I think it's kind of a, you know, an epiphany
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: for you too, of like, and a selfless, you know,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: and being just honest, like it's not their fault that
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: they had a stronger bond than you and he had.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Like it's not. And so to fake it, but like,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: let's not fake it anymore. When you're only, you know,
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: you still have, we might live till we're a hundred.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: You still have a whole nother half of your life
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: to live. I know.
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: I just want to be happy. And I want them
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: to be so happy. And once I had that realization moment,
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: I was like, ah, then they probably felt trapped. And
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: I wonder if Cody would have loved to have a
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: conversation with us, something like, hey, I just met the
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: love of my life and she's amazing. And we have
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: this incredible bond. And I didn't realize that what we
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: had wasn't as strong, but I still honor our relationship.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: But I wish, but maybe he didn't feel like that
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: was even anything. I don't know. I don't know if
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: even consciously he had that thought. I think that he
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: just thinks I wasn't in love with them. Now that
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: he sees he's so in love with Robin, I think
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: that he was like, I wasn't in love with them.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: And I think that he was, I remember feeling like
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: he loved me.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: I don't know, but I, Heather, I.
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: Was standing in my kitchen and just, I realized I
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: love David. I know it was such a crazy epiphany
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: and it's going to be one of my favorite epiphanies
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: I ever had because they let go of any anger
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: or frustration because it wasn't their fault. Love just happens.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: And when it happens, you want to embrace it and
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: just go forward and move forward in happiness. And I
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: want them to move forward with happiness too and just
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: go and live your life.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: But I think also how Cody treated you guys to
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: get you to the place of leaving. A lot of
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: men do that. A lot of men don't have the
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: balls to say what they feel and break up. I
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: saw something where this divorce attorney said she'd been an
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: attorney for 30 years and She said only in two
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: cases did a man file for divorce who didn't already
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: have a woman lined up. But in like 80 percent
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: of her cases where the woman filed, she had nobody
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: lined up. She was just so sick of the husband.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: So I like I do feel like men sometimes, you know,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: get to a point, whether it's conscious or not, to
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: have the women sort of make the decision for them. So,
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: you know, we can be mad at Cody, but I
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: think a lot of people can say, yeah, looking back
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: at my own normal marriage, the husband treated me bad
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: or the boyfriend or whatever, you know?
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: I think what I went through was normal. What I
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: went through with just mine and Cody's marriage was normal.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Totally relatable.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: I had to end it. He wasn't going to. For him,
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: he would have just been like, eh, here it is.
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: And we're just going to keep on doing this. And
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: that's all. you know, it's, I think it is 100% relatable.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: I hear that all the time, like shopping at the store,
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: you'd be surprised at how many women are like, my
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: marriage was the exact same. And I didn't know, like,
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: I had no idea that what I had isolated was
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: such a normal marriage for dysfunctional marriage. I didn't know
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: until I left and women started talking to me and
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: resonating with it. And Being like, I left my husband too.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: And it's the exact same. I'm like, wait, what? And
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: it was amazingly eye-opening. And it does help you not
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: be angry.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: Well, I know you have to go. And I loved
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: meeting you.

- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Are you at all close to the University of Utah?

- 1:06:45Speaker 1: just get together and like have dinner. Maybe the husbands
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: can meet because I thoroughly enjoy talking to you as just,

- 1:07:09Speaker 1: continues on because I really want to see your journey
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: in your own lives, in maintaining your sister-wife relationship, whether
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: it gets better or worse or takes a whole other direction.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: It's just fascinating. So I hope it continues on for

- 1:08:20Speaker 1: a lot of things that a lot of people wondered
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: about that we haven't known. So I'm excited for people
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: to hear it.
