Some doors are harder to knock on the second time.
Two weeks of silence. Two weeks of a closed Star Log. Two weeks since Tanner gave away Mr. Henry’s story. Today he goes to the door.
The porch light is off. It’s never been off.
Mr. Henry lets him in. The kitchen table — the one that was covered in stars during the reveal — is bare. He reads Tanner’s letter silently. Then he asks Tanner to say it out loud.
“Trust isn’t a star, Tanner. You can’t carve another one.”
Mr. Henry forgives him. Not because the hurt is small. Because grace is bigger. But trust comes back slower than forgiveness…
