- 0:01I still want to say something to CIG though, which is, I want,
- 0:05you know, base building, base building soon, right?
- 0:08And when we get those, those halves, they better have
- 0:12windows. There better be lots of windows.
- 0:14I don't, I don't want to be plopping down basically storage
- 0:18boxes with a door on them. I want Windows.
- 0:20Second bat. Second bat.
- 0:22All right, let's not threaten CIG though.
- 0:25You. Better than you know. thing
- 0:34isn't though, now that you say that I can't see it.
- 0:36You're absolutely right. After we're trying to let's
- 0:38let's talk about that first because I was going to go in a
- 0:40totally different direction. You can make as much money as
- 0:43you need and work your way towards any ship in the game.
- 0:46They they were trying to cash in off of that nostalgia and that
- 0:50height. Opencoms Radio, a very, very
- 0:56special episode today. Thank you for joining me.
- 0:59I'm Jar Jar Jabroni, your weekly host on this Star Citizen call
- 1:03in show. You can call in every week.
- 1:06Eastern Time, 9:00 PM. What time do we do it?
- 1:10Pacific Time, 6:00 PM. If you're in another part of the
- 1:12world, you got to figure out that yourself because I, I don't
- 1:15know, I'm not a time wizard, as I as I usually say, but I do
- 1:18have some Wizards with me today. Today's show is all about
- 1:23windows. Windows, Windows.
- 1:27Windows. Who's talking about windows?
- 1:29What's the big deal with Windows?
- 1:31I want to be honest with you all.
- 1:33I'm not so sure I fully understand it, but my Co host
- 1:36today, you know him, you love him.
- 1:38Duke. Later the second is quite
- 1:41enthusiastic. Duke, How you doing buddy?
- 1:43I'm good, I'm, I'm psyched. I'm psyched to talk about
- 1:46Windows. Yeah, I know you are.
- 1:48You brought this topic forth many a time here on Open Comms.
- 1:54Every chance I get basically. Every chance you get, yeah,
- 1:57today is no different. So today is, well, in that
- 2:01regard, it's no different. But in one way it is different.
- 2:03We do have a very, very special guest with us today, Duke.
- 2:07We do. I'm very excited to have this
- 2:11guy with us on the show today. You might know him from his
- 2:15YouTube videos, which are a mix of mainly just cinematics and
- 2:21then somewhere where he does talk as well, but they're all
- 2:23gorgeous to watch. He does some really beautiful
- 2:27cinematics and recently had one about windows which which kind
- 2:31of brought up the idea of hey, this, this poor guy should come
- 2:35and waste some of his time with us here on open comps.
- 2:40His name is Silent Archer on YouTube.
- 2:42That's SILENTR, Cher. So no, no, a in the middle
- 2:48there. Just just Silent Archer.
- 2:50That makes him cooler. You know, he's Yeah.
- 2:52So yeah, why don't we, why don't we bring Silent Archer up here
- 2:56and have him say hello? Hey.
- 2:59Nice. Thank you.
- 3:00Welcome to Open Comms Radio. This week's question.
- 3:05You know it, you love it. Who mentioned Windows?
- 3:09I suppose I did, right? I mean, I've always loved
- 3:13Windows and everyone I've always played with, I've always geeked
- 3:15out of a windows, just like Duke here.
- 3:17I, I, I assume, right. So I mean, it's just, you know,
- 3:21I feel like everyone I've I love to play with love Windows.
- 3:25And so I, I love Windows and it's just something that really
- 3:29immerses me into the game unlike anything else.
- 3:31So I mean, yeah, I guess that's the back story, right?
- 3:35Like I just windows are great. And I hope we're here to talk
- 3:39about that today, right? Yeah.
- 3:42Yeah. Yep, sorry, wrong show the most
- 3:45of the wrong caller here. Let's get let's hit the other
- 3:47eye up. What what made you what made you
- 3:51publish that video that I talked about earlier, the Windows 1?
- 3:56I mean, I'll be honest, my, my dad also plays a bit of Star
- 4:00Citizen and he, you know, he's always geeked out about windows,
- 4:04you know, just like me. And we've, you know, often
- 4:07discussed those kind of topics, right?
- 4:09We've discussed, you know, what, what, what makes a ship great,
- 4:12what makes a space feel alive and kind of immersive.
- 4:16And windows have been such a central part of that in those
- 4:18discussions. So, you know, it felt quite
- 4:21natural to to, you know, just I, I one that one day I just sat
- 4:26down and wrote a bit about what I thought.
- 4:29And suddenly I had an entire text and I was like, OK, why?
- 4:32I might as well make a video on it, right?
- 4:34Because I just love windows. And well, I'm happy to say that
- 4:37other people also enjoyed it. So yeah, yeah, that's the back
- 4:41story, right? Who knew?
- 4:44Who knew he. Saw that?
- 4:45He's like, you're not going to believe this.
- 4:46There's another guy talking about Windows.
- 4:49There's two of us now. There's two of us.
- 4:52So if I, if I may play devil's advocate, all right, sure.
- 4:55Against because I feel like you know I got 2 of you here let me
- 4:59let me just say who cares you know you're in a spaceship
- 5:05windows are a weak point why would I want these and why would
- 5:11you know the development team why why should they invest time
- 5:14in this I'm. Going to let Archer speak before
- 5:17I jump on you. I mean, OK, so I guess First
- 5:22off, like we have to be on the same ground here.
- 5:24Like in lore, windows are strong as steel, right?
- 5:28They're as strong as any part of the rest of the ship, right?
- 5:31Stronger, I believe. They're stronger, even.
- 5:33Yeah, maybe they're just super. Expensive.
- 5:36Yeah, they're super expensive, right.
- 5:37So I guess that's a valid point. You know that the, you know,
- 5:41especially regarding cost, right?
- 5:43Like why would, why would they waste their time having windows
- 5:46in a ship when you can just have cameras or, or, you know, that's
- 5:49what people mention at least. Like why don't ship just have
- 5:52cameras and just have the whole, you know, enclose the entire
- 5:55ship like in the Esperia ships, right?
- 6:00Are the the yeah, yeah, they they have the.
- 6:02Little you know, they're the ones with the canopies that kind
- 6:04of have the camera things flipping.
- 6:06Yeah, the Tavares ships exact thing.
- 6:08Yeah, my bad. I have.
- 6:09I have a theory about that too, but go ahead.
- 6:11Right. Excited to hear that for sure.
- 6:16But yeah, I think why should they invest their time?
- 6:19I mean, I think it's just part of being, you know, human,
- 6:24right? We don't like being submerged.
- 6:26You know, if you take submarines, for example, right?
- 6:29Like it's not like everybody loves being in a submarine.
- 6:31It's very claustrophobic. It's, it's very unnatural for a
- 6:34human to be without natural light, to not see what's
- 6:37happening outside. And I feel like having windows
- 6:42and ships makes that, you know, it makes it feel so much more
- 6:46natural and so much more bearable if we're thinking, you
- 6:49know, immersing ourselves in the Star Citizen universe, right, in
- 6:54a way that cameras doesn't. Although I would have to think a
- 6:57bit more about the fact, you know, why cameras aren't the
- 6:59same thing. I guess it doesn't let people
- 7:01look in. And there's, there's a, you
- 7:03know, for me, there's an aspect and actually being able to look
- 7:05into a ship as well, you know, from outside, I feel like the
- 7:08connection, like the actual physical connection of the light
- 7:12going through, you know, the, the hall instead of just passing
- 7:14through sensors. It's, you know, it's, it's part
- 7:17of the feeling, right. But I don't know if I can, you
- 7:20know, I'd like to go deeper in that.
- 7:22Do you have any thoughts on that, Duke or sorry Dardar?
- 7:26You know, you talked about looking in.
- 7:27It made me think of that scene at the beginning of Titan AE.
- 7:30If anyone remembers that show, that movie that's main character
- 7:35ends up stuck on the front windshields of a spaceship.
- 7:38You know, when he looks in and sees like a beautiful girl and
- 7:41it's like, Oh yeah, there's that whole connection, you know, like
- 7:44he's in the outer space, but there's still that human element
- 7:47of looking in the window. It's just like, you know, Romeo
- 7:50and Juliet. Exactly.
- 7:53Yeah, you can see it. But you can't get to it.
- 7:55Yeah. Touch it, you know what I mean?
- 7:57Yeah, right. It gives it, you know, an
- 7:59otherworldly but but still a natural and and easily relatable
- 8:04experience. Totally.
- 8:07You nailed it there, I think. Whereas like the so I was saying
- 8:11the Tavarin, right? So only the Tavarin ships are
- 8:13the only ones we've seen that have the that video cockpit,
- 8:18right, right. And in my mind, that was because
- 8:22the Tavarin didn't have window technology, because the the
- 8:27window material is pretty advanced when you think about
- 8:30it. And.
- 8:32Yeah, this sounds so ridiculous. But it but it makes sense in law
- 8:35cause the Tavarin were stuck in their system.
- 8:37They had no, they had no wormhole travel until the
- 8:41humans. Discovered.
- 8:42And so they had a lot of unique technologies, including the
- 8:45shield technology which we got from them.
- 8:47So it makes sense we had one they didn't, which was just
- 8:50these super strong windows. Because when you think about it,
- 8:53you know, if you have these super strong windows, you can
- 8:54always look out. Even when your ship dies and
- 8:58nothing's working, you can still look out the window.
- 9:01Whereas for sure in ships when the power is out, that's it, you
- 9:06can't see anything. Very true.
- 9:08So there's that. There's that practical aspect as
- 9:10well, for sure. You know not, you know, having
- 9:12to rely on power is a big thing, right?
- 9:16Especially in the cockpit. Especially in the cockpit.
- 9:19You know. Especially with engineering now
- 9:20you know, you got engineering. Really.
- 9:22That's so true. Extra health bars and I don't
- 9:26want a health bar for for my my camera window.
- 9:30Yeah, exactly. Yeah, for sure.
- 9:33Is that a? Is that a dig at Misk?
- 9:36Oh never. I would never take a dig at
- 9:38Misk. I love.
- 9:39Misk. No.
- 9:39Yeah, dude, I'd be. Because I don't know if you know
- 9:42this Archer. Duke's a big Misk guy.
- 9:44So I can understand that. He's worked his way up through
- 9:48all the Misk ships. Yeah.
- 9:49Interesting. Yeah.
- 9:51And the Starliner makes me furious because it needs so many
- 9:54more windows. I understand.
- 9:59Damn, yeah I guess I was just grateful to get any windows on
- 10:02it. Any windows?
- 10:06Any windows are good. I mean, I'm just so starved of
- 10:08it of of windows that just any like I was surprised that he
- 10:10even got 2, you know, and to discover it had those in the
- 10:13roof as well. I guess you've seen those maybe
- 10:16in the habitat habitation area. But yeah, I mean truly.
- 10:21You've got these long corridors and there's just no window.
- 10:25And I'm like, why? I I could be anywhere I could
- 10:27be. Underground.
- 10:28Are you thinking about the the habitation area like where you
- 10:31walk, like, Oh yeah, that's central.
- 10:34That's true. Actually, that's true.
- 10:37I wonder how they. Yeah.
- 10:39And it makes me think actually your other video, another one I
- 10:42watched recently, was the Is Levski the next port Alasar?
- 10:46Right. Yeah.
- 10:47And you did kind of a good, you know, a good dive into what
- 10:51makes Levski a good point of interest and and why some of the
- 10:55other space stations don't work. And I think it all goes back to
- 10:58this, this disconnect right in Levski, like you can lookout
- 11:03windows, you can see places, you can go to those places and in
- 11:07from the outside, you can also look in like, like the, the
- 11:10scope of it all works. It feels natural.
- 11:14Whereas the space stations, because it's a mix of these
- 11:18beautiful stations and the old, what did they call that where
- 11:21they were going to like randomize the inside of the
- 11:23stations and. Procter and procedural
- 11:26generation. Yeah, they were, you know, it
- 11:28was all going to be that. So now we've got these
- 11:30procedural generated internals. Yeah.
- 11:34And other than one window, it's like, I don't see how this fits
- 11:38in this big beautiful station. Yeah, How is there one window?
- 11:41Like literally one window. It's crazy.
- 11:43I mean, Pyro does a better job at this as well.
- 11:46I think those stations have quite a lot of windows.
- 11:48Maybe that's just because they're broken, like, you know,
- 11:50indoor. But the windows are the only
- 11:54parts that aren't broken. Oh, you're.
- 11:57Right, because because they're strong.
- 11:59The rest is. Just windows floating in there.
- 12:02Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 12:05No, but I love that as well. It's that disconnect for sure.
- 12:07And I I'm surprised, you know, it feels, it's such a shame that
- 12:10all the stations are so procedurally generated.
- 12:12I mean, it's it's a big part of them feeling so dead and
- 12:15uninteresting. Yeah, for sure.
- 12:19But I think right now are are they're not proc Gen. so much
- 12:21now they're they're just using the same assets and they just
- 12:25have limited assets. I think the Cutter and stuff
- 12:28maybe I don't know what they're like development process is with
- 12:32that. But I did notice like in the
- 12:35past, a lot more ships had windows, especially a lot of the
- 12:40origin ships. I feel you have the 300 series
- 12:45is like the whole top of it is like a big sunroof, I guess star
- 12:51roof you could call it. And that was one of the first
- 12:54ships that like I upgraded to. And when I got in there, I was
- 12:56like, oh, this is so cool, 'cause I can just like float
- 12:59out, sit here, you know, engage in whatever activities I want to
- 13:04engage in and just sit and look at the, the view, the beautiful
- 13:07view of all these beautiful planets that they're developing.
- 13:10And it's a shame that I think you, you spend, if you're a
- 13:14crewmate of someone else that you're spending so much time in
- 13:17these people's ships, but like you're jumping and you're flying
- 13:20and in many of these ships. You can't.
- 13:23Engage with that, Yeah. And it's like, well, why are you
- 13:25making all this beautiful world if half the time players aren't
- 13:29going to be able to look at it? Absolutely.
- 13:32Truly, I mean, it's, it's, it's a shame, you know, and you know,
- 13:36some manufacturers just never have received a single window.
- 13:39For instance, like Crusader, none of their ships have
- 13:44windows. Literally not a single ship has
- 13:47a window, really. And it's such a shame.
- 13:49Like the MSR for instance, really could use a window.
- 13:52Like why doesn't the MSR have a window?
- 13:54It feels like it feels so claustrophobic.
- 13:57So it's like you have to get through like 10 doors to get to
- 13:59the cockpit, which is the only place where you can look out of
- 14:02the ship. You know, I might.
- 14:03Find that. Extremely weird.
- 14:05And you're right now, yeah, nothing.
- 14:07Now you can leave the doors open at least.
- 14:10OK, that's. Makeshift window.
- 14:13Makeshift window exactly just like.
- 14:17So we we do have a quick question in the chat from Raven
- 14:20442 Raven four, and this is maybe for for you silent.
- 14:25Do you think the 600I rework will get more windows?
- 14:30So the 600I has that big window in the back and then kind of the
- 14:34front cockpit window that that's, that makes 2 windows,
- 14:36right? There's not more that I can
- 14:38think of, at least I, I guess in the touring version.
- 14:41In the touring version, it also has that ground window in the
- 14:45floor. Which makes it in like the top
- 14:4710% of ships and Star Citizen with windows.
- 14:50Right. That's so cool, right?
- 14:51Yeah, it's. Yeah, right.
- 14:55That also. Yeah, super.
- 14:57I mean, it has a lot of window area, right?
- 14:59It has very big windows, but not a lot of them, I suppose.
- 15:04Like there's 34 main windows, but then there's just kind of
- 15:07numb throughout the rest of the ship, right?
- 15:10I wonder. Yeah, it feels like it could be
- 15:13possible that it got more windows.
- 15:14I just don't see how that would work with a silhouette of the
- 15:17ship because I feel like they're going to maintain like the glass
- 15:19parts of the ship are very iconic and I find I'm trying
- 15:24finding it hard to imagine if it would receive more windows, like
- 15:28on the sides or anything. I don't know what you guys
- 15:31think, but I feel like that would be unlikely.
- 15:34Maybe a bit more window area, but not more windows per SE.
- 15:37Well I think if they did do the windows they would have to
- 15:40address the exterior of the ship.
- 15:43Yeah, exactly. A feeling like they're not going
- 15:45to do that. That's what, yeah, they're just
- 15:47going to. Interior rework because that
- 15:49would basically be like making a new ship or an hour at least
- 15:52making. It would be, I mean, yeah,
- 15:54because I mean, it would be a lot of work.
- 15:56Like the as I said, the the the window parts of the exterior are
- 16:00very iconic, right? Well, I think.
- 16:04There, you know, there's a, there's a middle ground here as
- 16:07well. Like when you think of the, the
- 16:10closest things we have to spaceships, obviously, you know,
- 16:14boats or, or airplanes. The the window doesn't have to
- 16:19be something like huge, you know, spanning the whole side of
- 16:23the room. There's, you know, there's
- 16:24portholes, which I think would be sort of an interesting
- 16:28concept with the 600I or the 890 because they have something a
- 16:33lot of other ships don't, which is a a crew that's supposed to
- 16:38be mostly invisible. Right.
- 16:40Fair enough. Yeah, service crew on these
- 16:43luxury ships and it's like, you know, give them, give them a
- 16:47little, give them a little porthole or something, just a
- 16:48little window so they can sit there and contemplate, give.
- 16:53Give the peasants a porthole. Yeah, give the peasants A
- 16:55porthole. Exactly.
- 16:58I feel like origin, I feel like origin aren't like that, though,
- 17:02like they wouldn't just if we take the 400 I for instance,
- 17:05like they're first of all, I feel like they have the in like
- 17:07the attitude, like just fuck the peasants.
- 17:10You know, we care about the people who are staying in the
- 17:12ship, not the people are working there.
- 17:15Like a bit imperial in that sense, But but if you.
- 17:20If you take the. 400 I the 400I has these kind of portal like
- 17:25windows in the sleeping quarters and so on.
- 17:29You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, it's small, but.
- 17:32They're. Yeah, just something in between.
- 17:34They're quite small for being origin, right?
- 17:37But they're kind of connected to this larger window silhouettes,
- 17:40right? Like outside, exterior wise.
- 17:42Right. And I feel like Origin wouldn't
- 17:45plop in some small portals just randomly sitting throughout the
- 17:48ship. Like they would have to be part
- 17:50of something like a bigger window exterior looking thing
- 17:54right? It's what I would think at
- 17:56least. I feel like it's hard to imagine
- 17:58Origin ships with just a small like tiny portal because it
- 18:03doesn't feel so luxurious maybe. Yes, yeah.
- 18:06It's the order, the design of the ship, I think.
- 18:09No, I'm saying Origin is overcompensating.
- 18:12Yeah, that's what. It is a little bit.
- 18:14Look at the yeah, look at that thing.
- 18:15Look at the nose on that. They're compensating.
- 18:18They're compensating. So I think other than the
- 18:22aesthetic nature of windows and, and, and how they make us feel
- 18:27and, and to look at the scenery of the game, is there any other
- 18:30purpose that these are possibly serving for us?
- 18:33Is there any maybe game purposes that you can consider?
- 18:36That's why CAG would want to put Windows and chips.
- 18:41I mean, for Origin and many other touring ships, right, Like
- 18:45the purpose is obviously for the passengers sakes.
- 18:48So I guess that's in one way kind of like a like a gameplay
- 18:52feature, you know, in, in terms of the passengers comfort,
- 18:55right. If, if we get, if we ever get,
- 18:59you know, passenger missions, which I hope, which I hope we
- 19:02get pretty soon. Yeah, hold your breath.
- 19:06Hold. Right.
- 19:07Don't hold your breath. I.
- 19:08Guess don't hold your. Breath.
- 19:08Don't. Yeah, I'm going to die soon.
- 19:10Yeah, in that case. But otherwise, I mean, sometimes
- 19:15definitely. For instance, in the Star
- 19:19Lancer, we have those like kind of portals in the cockpit, you
- 19:25know, for the two people sitting along the wall there.
- 19:29I couldn't figure it. Out they get their own oh
- 19:32really? They're they're closed, they
- 19:33come close normally or. Like they were closed in the
- 19:37Star Lancer Max. OK.
- 19:40Yeah, there's some button there on the figure.
- 19:42Out, yeah, I was looking at the consoles like right in front of
- 19:44me and I'm like that's just want to open that.
- 19:46That's just me though. That must be a bug.
- 19:48Yeah, yeah. But I guess those are windows in
- 19:50one sense, right? Like and you know, they're,
- 19:53they're kind of like cockpit holes as well for the, you know,
- 19:57So that's a functional site aspect as well.
- 19:59Like the people that are sitting the cockpit should all be able
- 20:01to look out, right? Well, because you mentioned in
- 20:05your video you land somewhere. Yeah, before you exit your ship,
- 20:10you want to like look out and see, you know, what's going on.
- 20:14For sure. I mean, both the Star Lancer and
- 20:16the Qatar has this. You know, they have windows by
- 20:20their landing. You know they're like ramp,
- 20:23right? By the door, yeah.
- 20:24So, so that's definitely one of the most at least that I could
- 20:29come up with, you know, one of the most important like
- 20:32functions that are that are not just aesthetic for the ship, you
- 20:35know, but I don't know if you guys can think of something
- 20:37else. Well, I was just thinking when
- 20:39we were doing the Worm mission, Duke, we had those PV, those
- 20:43players there and they're always responding and stuff.
- 20:46We'd be in one of those smaller like medical spaces and I saw
- 20:52them run running outside through the window and they're like,
- 20:56that's an actual game thing because I can't hit them.
- 20:59They can't hit me, but I can I can see them and I so I know
- 21:02like I'm not going to like go outside right now, right.
- 21:06And I think there's also this thing that there is
- 21:10underutilized, which is what they had we're talking about
- 21:14earlier with the Aspera is the one way glass, right?
- 21:18If I'm in a ship, why don't I have tinted windows?
- 21:22Because maybe I don't want you looking at my ship and I don't
- 21:24want, you know, that I'm looking at you and, and, and this and
- 21:26that Very true. Would they get base building
- 21:28coming in? You're going to want to build
- 21:31windows in your base. And if you're doing it, if
- 21:34you're worried about people attacking you, you're going to
- 21:36want, you know, one way windows or one way glass.
- 21:40That's true. I mean, I guess I feel like no,
- 21:44sorry, Duke. Sorry.
- 21:45Go. No, no, you go ahead.
- 21:49I was just going to say that I think some origin ships do have
- 21:51tinted window. I don't.
- 21:52I just think it doesn't work. That's the only thing.
- 21:54There's nothing big. I was.
- 21:57Going to say I, I feel like there's definitely things like
- 22:00that where sometimes CIG falls flat in terms of if you were
- 22:07actually a company designing this vehicle to be used and you
- 22:14would, I mean it like the, let's say the, the Cutter, right?
- 22:18Like, you know what it's going to be used for, You know, it's
- 22:21like an all arounder, like this person's probably going to do a
- 22:23little box delivery. They might go to dangerous
- 22:26places. So yeah, we, we need to have
- 22:29things like the window built in so they can look out and see if
- 22:32it's safe first. But you'd, you'd also have
- 22:35things, I mean, you know, I drive around a little, a little
- 22:39Chevy Bolt. It's got a reverse camera, you
- 22:43know, like your ship should be if, if you're going to go
- 22:45somewhere dangerous, you should be able to look into the one of
- 22:48your MFDS and just like look out the back, you know, let me, let
- 22:51me check and see if somebody's standing there with a boom stick
- 22:55or something. You know, just about to end my
- 22:57day as soon as I lower the ramp. Little things like that
- 23:02sometimes where I'm like, we didn't think this through.
- 23:05Yeah. I feel camera and game, Duke.
- 23:09That's actually true. Yeah, but.
- 23:11But I'm saying, but I want my immersion.
- 23:13I don't. I don't want to just poop.
- 23:15I don't want to go third person and do all that.
- 23:18I want to be immersed. That's true.
- 23:20I guess it's not entirely implemented in a good way, but
- 23:25but yeah, it's a it's a hard balance, you know, with with
- 23:28when it comes to ships, you know, having them be functional
- 23:31but also like part of the game, right?
- 23:33Because it is just a game and it feels like the moment you want
- 23:37it to become too thought out, it becomes kind of unreasonable,
- 23:41right. I had some people in my in the
- 23:42comments saying this, you know, like, First off, having windows
- 23:45that are just cameras. And the second, you know, these
- 23:49apparently F-30, you know, the F35 jets.
- 23:54Yeah, apparently those helmets allow you to look through the
- 23:57entire like in VR, allow you to look through the body of the
- 24:01airplane, which is pretty cool. It's pretty sick, but I feel
- 24:07like I I wish we probably have that technology in this age,
- 24:10right in Star Citizen 2955. You know, it's likely that
- 24:14that's a lot more cheap to produce, right?
- 24:17But it would also kind of just ruin the game if you just could
- 24:20look through your entire ship, you know, you know, it's like
- 24:23there's obviously a balance, right, between having a ship
- 24:25that's functional, but also kind of making it reasonable.
- 24:29I don't know. I don't know what what do you,
- 24:30what do you guys think about this?
- 24:32But it is something I've thought about, you know, like when
- 24:35should we pull the line of a ship being functional and not
- 24:38function, you know? Yeah.
- 24:41Yeah. I think we're at that point,
- 24:44too, in terms of the development right now.
- 24:49We're at the point where everyone's kind of like wanting
- 24:52a game, right? Yeah.
- 24:54It's you've done everything, you've built these planets.
- 24:57It looks really cool, you know, keep chugging away with that.
- 24:59But I want a I want a game now because I'll pop in now and I
- 25:05was like, I don't really like him have anything to do.
- 25:08Yeah, right. Which is a whole other a whole
- 25:11other issue. But it's definitely something
- 25:12that I believe they they are considering, you know, they got
- 25:18to be. Yeah, I feel like it's a
- 25:21necessary part to just move it forward, you know, and in one
- 25:24sense, even though, you know, it has to be done with care, I
- 25:28think it's better not to overstep, but also just it's a
- 25:34matter of priorities, I guess, right.
- 25:37I'm excited now for engineering. I'm glad they kind of reworked
- 25:40that to be more playable. And I'm excited to try it out.
- 25:45I haven't actually got the chance to try it out yet, which
- 25:48is a shame, but. It's well.
- 25:50Supposedly that's not done till March.
- 25:53OK. Yeah.
- 25:55So what we have now is going to be iterated on through the end
- 25:59of March and we'll probably get in January, February, March.
- 26:01You know it's going to be iterated on until the end of
- 26:04time. Until the end of Yeah Yeah.
- 26:09Yeah, but it's it's. Really delivering some game.
- 26:11It's there. Yeah, definitely.
- 26:13I mean, it's, they've come so far.
- 26:14I mean, I now I sound pessimistic and critical, but I
- 26:17really love this game and I think they've taken it so far in
- 26:20the past couple of years. And I mean, I'm super happy with
- 26:22the direction they're taking actually.
- 26:24So yeah, I don't want to sound pessimistic.
- 26:26I don't know. That came out the wrong way.
- 26:28I think before when I criticized the OR not criticized just.
- 26:32Yeah, but. No, that's OK dude.
- 26:35You can. You can criticize all you want.
- 26:36They can handle. It, you know, Yeah, we, you
- 26:38heard it here. Salon.
- 26:39Salon. Archer hates Star Citizen.
- 26:41I hate *. Yeah, exactly.
- 26:42That's the that's the title, right?
- 26:45Why I hate Star Citizen Why Actually, you probably get a lot
- 26:48of clicks to be. Honest.
- 26:49Yeah. Probably.
- 26:49Yeah. I don't.
- 26:51If only I believed it right? I I really love it.
- 26:54It's it's my favorite game of all time, so I couldn't stand
- 26:57for that unfortunately. Well, that's why we're here.
- 27:01That's why we're here. And so we're halfway through the
- 27:03show. So what I'm going to do is I'm
- 27:05going to invite up some callers. We got one caller in the waiting
- 27:08room and we'll invite him up. He's a regular guy, so he'll
- 27:10he'll ask ask us some questions. But before I do that, I did get
- 27:15a super secret file from CIG recently released a super secret
- 27:23file all about Windows. So I'm going to I'm going to
- 27:25pull that up here. Hold on.
- 27:27I got it. Fascinated.
- 27:30I'm also a little frightened. It's a lot.
- 27:32What is this? Oh, oh, hold on.
- 27:36Oh, it's all blacked out. So weird.
- 27:40So weird. There's no, there's no
- 27:43information. On here.
- 27:45It's just, it's just pages of of black.
- 27:47I wonder how much it cost them to to do this.
- 27:50Anyway, we're going to bring up our next guest here.
- 27:53Our next guest, our our first actual caller in is Cosmic Hobo.
- 28:00He's a regular here. Hey Cosmic, welcome to Open
- 28:02Comms Radio, your Star Citizen call in show.
- 28:05I'm George Jabroni, Co host today's Duke later the 2nd and
- 28:08our very, very special guest, Silent Archer, who you can see
- 28:12on YouTube. Just search Silent Archer, drop
- 28:15the A and you'll find his channel Cosmic Kobo.
- 28:19Who mentioned Windows? It's so early.
- 28:24It's not. It's.
- 28:25Like a lunchtime. It's seriously I'm on like my
- 28:284th meal already. Wow, I well, it's really for me,
- 28:35Windows. Yeah.
- 28:36So like one of the first things most people I know for some
- 28:39reason do when looking at a ship is run through it looking for
- 28:42Windows and I think. Like.
- 28:47A lot of, like a lot of things in Star system windows need, you
- 28:52know, they're missing a feature there.
- 28:54There's feature debt, there's tech debt.
- 28:56And that feature is being able to put your face right up
- 29:00against it, like a child. And looking at it like that.
- 29:04Because. New cheeks mush technology.
- 29:07Exactly. About the perspective of how the
- 29:10game is right now, you look out a window and unless it's a
- 29:14really big window, you don't see very much.
- 29:18You see very little, but like I need to get my face up against
- 29:22that so I can look out like use that peripheral vision.
- 29:28When it's a. VR will help with that.
- 29:31Yeah, it's just like with VRI, can just slam my head up against
- 29:35the window just kind of like little grain it around the left
- 29:39and the right and maybe that'll work.
- 29:43But in its current form, windows take the Zeus windows.
- 29:49Specifically. The ones in the the galley there
- 29:55something about your distance from the window, even though
- 29:58it's not a terribly small window, just something about the
- 30:02FOV just doesn't work well for that window.
- 30:04Like you don't see very much. And that's the same problem with
- 30:09a lot of the windows in the game is they're there.
- 30:11Like you look at the Perseus, you look at the Apollo.
- 30:14The Apollo has a ton of windows. Like it's got a big star roof,
- 30:21like I, I suppose we're calling that.
- 30:23And it's got a lot of windows on the bridge, but like you can't
- 30:27see much out there. That's very true.
- 30:33Yeah, and in in the zoos, they in the ES in the hallway,
- 30:37there's a window looking into the galley.
- 30:40We can also look into the galley and out the exterior window.
- 30:44Right. And they mentioned that
- 30:45specifically as wanting to give it, you know, to give it kind of
- 30:48more of an explorer vibe. But it's the only window.
- 30:52Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:53And that's it. It's an explorer ship.
- 30:55So I expected, you know, more windows.
- 30:58I expected like more kind of living space, like maybe
- 31:01individual like rack rooms where you could have windows or
- 31:05portholes in them for for people.
- 31:09If you can tell, I'm, I was a little disappointed by the Zeus
- 31:13and they're seemingly like, I don't know, it just feels tacked
- 31:16on, right? Like there's, I just put it down
- 31:19here like they did it in like an afternoon.
- 31:22The cargo grid is not that much smaller and it seems very
- 31:26artificially decreased because they didn't change the geometry
- 31:31very much. Like if they change the geometry
- 31:35like they give that another, I don't know, 5 feet or something.
- 31:39Like pull it in another 5 feet, take up more space of that
- 31:43cargo, that now useless cargo area because they took away like
- 31:47the magnetic plates for a slight change in like geometry, but not
- 31:54enough that it makes sense. So like if they'd made it
- 31:57bigger, I could see, Oh yeah, far better.
- 32:00Like if the habitation area had a little more of that cargo grid
- 32:05space, but that would have required a lot of work probably
- 32:08with the geometry and component placements and stuff like that.
- 32:13But it it just seems like wasted space so much on the on the ES.
- 32:18Because of the. Interesting for.
- 32:21More windows there, or a sky roof or star roof, whatever.
- 32:25They're in the habitation room. Something like that would have
- 32:28been cool. Yeah, I feel like Windows are
- 32:32definitely an afterthought. And it's another one of those
- 32:36things where if, if you were a company like designing a real
- 32:41thing to be used by real humans, they would prioritize Windows
- 32:45more because people need it. I want to be jungles sitting in
- 32:50my office, you know, sipping my tea and looking out my.
- 32:54Window hot. Yeah.
- 32:56I also think actually with windows, one thing with a small
- 33:00windows is that you know the reflection is very distracting.
- 33:04Even with big windows, it's hard to look out because there's so
- 33:06much reflection, right? You can't look out because you
- 33:09just see the entire room behind you and I feel.
- 33:12Like with a. Zeus that's a big part of it as
- 33:14well. Like you try to look out, but
- 33:15you just don't see anything because it's reflecting the
- 33:18entire like white fluorescent light of the kitchen, right?
- 33:22Umm, which kind of, you know, definitely, it's definitely a
- 33:25hard window to look out of, uh, for sure for many reasons.
- 33:29And uh, it's, they do come as an afterthought with windows I
- 33:32think as well. Umm, but it's what you were
- 33:36saying. Windows have so much reflection,
- 33:37but our mirrors do not. Right.
- 33:40Right, Exactly. Yeah, that's true.
- 33:43What is this that's? Weird.
- 33:48All right, we do have another caller down in the waiter, a
- 33:51first time caller, maybe maybe the greatest fan of the show
- 33:56here. So I'm going to invite up this
- 33:57next caller to speak here on open Comms Radio.
- 34:01You just if you do call into the show, you'll get like a little
- 34:04notification. Just got to accept that
- 34:06notification to bring yourself up onto the caller waiting room
- 34:10or up into the show. And then when you do get in
- 34:13here, we just can ask our our our hosts what whatever you
- 34:18think, hopefully we're going to keep it on topic.
- 34:20Topic today about Windows. But if you haven't been Privy to
- 34:27the show, you'll know we used to have a pretty cool sponsor here.
- 34:31Isn't that right, Duke? That is, that is true.
- 34:35Probably the best sponsor in the verse.
- 34:37Yeah, he's the best sponsor in the verse.
- 34:39I'm happy to report that we do have our sponsor back, Cruise
- 34:44Lux. Cruise Lux is back.
- 34:45Yeah, and they actually made a back.
- 34:48Yes, Lux is back. That's amazing.
- 34:51You heard it here, folks. Cruise Lux is back.
- 34:54Cruise Block is back. Did you have to murder Wicket
- 34:59for that and like show crew? No, turns out they didn't
- 35:05actually care about what Wicket said.
- 35:07He was right all along. Oh, all right.
- 35:10Yeah, yeah, They just forgot to e-mail us.
- 35:14They had. They had an intern running,
- 35:15running the ads and. Damn I hate wearing that ad.
- 35:18Anything for a few weeks I guess.
- 35:20OK. All right.
- 35:22Yeah, but we do have a Cruise Lux ad for us today all about
- 35:24windows. So before we bring on our next
- 35:27guest, here it is. Here we go.
- 35:32Tapping, tap, tap, tap on the windows.
- 35:39You need the energy to look outside, you need to know what's
- 35:43going on. But you couldn't do that without
- 35:47cruise looks. Nana, Nana cruise looks.
- 35:49Nana Nana give no fucks cruise looks.
- 35:55That's what that was amazing. That was great.
- 35:57Yeah, Wonderful. That was great. 20% plan by.
- 36:00Volume. So it looks like it looks like
- 36:03our guest did leave us there. Yeah.
- 36:06Totally abandoned. Had to, had to go, yeah.
- 36:09Yeah, so. Archer, you know you're pretty.
- 36:16Your YouTube channel is pretty much always really focused on
- 36:19the aesthetics. I've noticed that's true A.
- 36:22Lot of. Visual content.
- 36:24Talking about the scenery and the planets and and of course
- 36:29windows, would you say is that the thing that kind of brings
- 36:32you here most, the aesthetics of the game?
- 36:37I. Mean, yeah, I guess I've.
- 36:39Always been, kind of. I've always loved the aesthetics
- 36:43of Star Citizen, you know, all my cinematics and so on are.
- 36:49Are filmed, you know a. Lot of cinematics, you know, a
- 36:53lot of just photographing. That's a lot of my time here in
- 36:57Star Citizen. I I want, I want to explore.
- 37:02So yeah, the visuals are. Such a big part for me and.
- 37:05I, you know, I feel like a lot of people are talking about all
- 37:08the functional stuff, you know, gameplay wise and stuff, but I
- 37:11guess I just want to keep it down to earth, keep it down to,
- 37:13you know, talking about the visuals.
- 37:15It's something that feels lack like lackluster in the YouTube
- 37:19community. So I guess I just wanted to
- 37:22focus on that idea a bit a bit. And there there are some.
- 37:28Ships that are are not released yet that do incorporate I think
- 37:33Windows and a lot of what we're asking for in the show. 1 of
- 37:37them being is it the Endeavour or the one with all the modules?
- 37:45The larger, yeah. You do have.
- 37:48The. I guess the farming modules
- 37:51which is like a big greenhouse Dome you can attach.
- 37:57To the end of the. Ship.
- 37:59Yeah, exactly. But if you.
- 38:00Look at the like general. Working portions of the ship,
- 38:04it's it's still just no windows. Never anywhere else.
- 38:09I'm I'm going to pull up an. Image of that.
- 38:11While you're pulling up, there's.
- 38:13There was something. Very.
- 38:14Related to that recently, have you all done the survey yet?
- 38:19No, it's a new survey. Yeah, what's the?
- 38:22Survey What is this one? This is.
- 38:26It's from CIG directly. I believe it was mentioned in
- 38:29the launcher or in the 4.5 patch release notes somewhere.
- 38:35I I got both the link in the in the server, but I was
- 38:39essentially asking about like what you what game loops you
- 38:42think are in a good state? What's what game loops are you?
- 38:46This was the most interesting. What game loops are you looking
- 38:48most forward to? And the two that stood out to me
- 38:52that they brought up were people moving so like transportation
- 38:57player or NPC player, human transportation, not not human
- 39:02trafficking and farming. They they brought up by word
- 39:10farming as a gameplay loop. I don't think they even.
- 39:14Brought up science. But they brought up farming.
- 39:18Well, farming. Could be probably.
- 39:20Pretty easily to implement gameplay wise.
- 39:22Really, a billion games out there have.
- 39:25Farming already, but we always know that's.
- 39:27The wheel is something. CIG must make more with more
- 39:31fidelity. So they're going to take the
- 39:33wheel. They're going to, they're going
- 39:35to re examine it. They're they're going to take it
- 39:37back to the drawing board. They're going to take that wheel
- 39:41and bring it back to fun and make it more Fidel Castro along
- 39:46the way. OK, OK.
- 39:52So they're reworking farming. Yeah, they're, they're already
- 39:55reworking. Farming.
- 39:56Yeah, totally that. It's they, they got to take back
- 40:00that farming to fun. Well, they're not reworking.
- 40:03It they're working it, I know that was the joke.
- 40:06Oh, OK. Yeah.
- 40:07Oh. Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
- 40:11Ha ha. Here are some of those.
- 40:13Endeavour modules. They got here farming greenhouse
- 40:17modules right? It is interesting.
- 40:21That. The farming module has this
- 40:23glass. I get why because it represents
- 40:24A greenhouse, but if you're floating in space, like where's
- 40:29the light for the plants coming from?
- 40:30I was just looking at you. It's like it's coming.
- 40:32From the stars, what do you? Mean whoa whoa whoa, Starlight.
- 40:35You forget that the star is in space.
- 40:40Wait, are we playing a space? Game you technically you'd be
- 40:43getting. More solar radiation than you
- 40:46would on a planet. But that's too much solar
- 40:51radiation. Right.
- 40:52So I mean you assume that those. That glass would be would
- 40:55probably have special filters. They can probably adjust it
- 40:57depending on how close they are to a star.
- 41:00What kind of star? But remember, jar jar literally
- 41:04everything is in space. That's true.
- 41:08Are we in space? We are in space.
- 41:10We're all in space right now, floating around.
- 41:13That's pretty cool. That's deep.
- 41:18That is deep. So.
- 41:19We do have a. Lot of passenger ships, I guess.
- 41:24Not a lot, but a few passenger ships.
- 41:26You have the Genesis Starliner. We already have the Connie, but
- 41:30I suppose they've mentioned doing Connie reworks hobo.
- 41:36You're the big Connie. Guy yeah, they've talked about
- 41:39it. But they've said it's not going
- 41:41to be another mark, So it's not going to be a big free work,
- 41:45unfortunately, because the mark system, OK, they they kind of
- 41:49screwed up that logic by releasing the the mark twos for
- 41:51the Hornets. But originally the mark system
- 41:54was just they had it for the Connie.
- 41:57We're on the Mark 4 for the Connie.
- 41:59And that's not just a lore thing.
- 42:01That's a how many times they've already like reworked it.
- 42:06So. They've talked about if they're
- 42:08going to do some work on it, but it I hope to God at least it's
- 42:12the struts. So they'll they'll they'll cut
- 42:15down on the struts a little bit, but other than.
- 42:18That they've not mentioned. And they need to put those
- 42:21cables like they need to properly install those cables on
- 42:24the bridge. Loose cables should not be an
- 42:26RSI ship. Loose tables not.
- 42:30That is not quality. Works meant workmanship.
- 42:33Yeah, Archer, you want? To say something.
- 42:36No, I just totally agree I think.
- 42:38The economy needs a bit of an uplift to kind of match RSI's
- 42:43visual aesthetic nowadays. Like even if it's made in the
- 42:48ancient days, I think it shouldn't look like this.
- 42:50So, you know, indoor, you know. But the struts are interesting.
- 42:57Because. The older ships do have a lot of
- 43:00struts and I think they were thinking of like glass panels,
- 43:05right? You put in the glass panel at a
- 43:06time. And I think as you know,
- 43:09technology has changed. If this game started 2012 or
- 43:14kick started 2012, now it's 2025 and we have 3D printing and we
- 43:20have, I mean, even improvements in like the military use of
- 43:24things like glass and windows. And you do see fewer struts in
- 43:29newer ships. That's true.
- 43:32But do we? If we take RSI ships for
- 43:35example, they still have quite a lot of struts.
- 43:39Yeah, I mean, I mean the zoos have hollow.
- 43:42Look at the opinion, I say it's. Part like it's.
- 43:44Part of their whole. Design language though, yeah.
- 43:46And I quite like the Struts actually.
- 43:47It's kind of an unpopular opinion, but I kind of like the
- 43:49Struts I. Think you're fine?
- 43:53On the Connie, except for that one in the very middle, it's
- 43:58just like very middle of your. Screen and.
- 44:00It's just blocking a lot if they just.
- 44:05Removed that one. Honestly, I think I'd be fine
- 44:08with the rest of the struts. It's just that that those two
- 44:12there that rectangle. And if we're talking ships with
- 44:16windows, the Phoenix has tons of them.
- 44:20That whole back area is just all windows.
- 44:23The Phoenix. The Phoenix is an example.
- 44:25Of a ship that it it does. It works for sure.
- 44:31Yeah, it does Windows. Right.
- 44:32For sure. I mean.
- 44:33I love those kind of sideway windows and yeah, for sure it's
- 44:37the only ship where I could say that.
- 44:39It it's good, doesn't need any more windows.
- 44:42Yeah, that's. True, actually.
- 44:43I mean, it's, it really feels. Like a a suitable private jets,
- 44:46you know or a bit. Bigger, maybe a bit bigger.
- 44:49Than a private ship but. That was.
- 44:54Yeah, go Duke. No.
- 44:55No, go ahead. I was just that.
- 44:57Was back when they were. Making ships like as Jpegs and
- 45:01they were really trying to sell the aesthetics of the ships.
- 45:05Now they're trying to sell like the gameplay of the ships.
- 45:09So if you think about the last exploration ships we got, I
- 45:14think the last explorer ship was the the Zeus variant and that
- 45:17was we all agree was a little half assed before.
- 45:22That it was the. 400I right, which was maybe I think that was
- 45:28still kind of the old way that they were marketing ships and it
- 45:32was like it was like AJ Peg. I remember it was like the ship
- 45:35that came out when I started the game.
- 45:38It was like the first kind of one that that they marketed and
- 45:41that I really felt was like, you know, something interesting, but
- 45:45that ship, you know, also has the windows and and maintains
- 45:48that. What do you think?
- 45:51Going forward. In terms of new ships that
- 45:54they're going to release and stuff are do you think there's a
- 45:58possibility that CNG is going to take, you know, the windows and,
- 46:03and the visual components of the ships back to that really
- 46:07aesthetic, you know, focusing on the look of it for the player,
- 46:11like we have with the Connie and making it really fancy?
- 46:14Or are they just going to continue, you know, pushing
- 46:18through this, you know, gameplay centric focus and kind of leave,
- 46:23you know, the the aesthetics of the ship in in the back?
- 46:28Interesting, I mean. I feel like honestly, if I may
- 46:33disagree. Slightly.
- 46:35I feel like if we take the purse, hold on.
- 46:43If we take the purses for. Instance that's quite a new
- 46:46ship, right? I feel like that's, you know,
- 46:51they've just really improved. I feel like their ship skills
- 46:54have improved if we compare it to ships like, well, I mean
- 46:59every other old ship, if I, if I do say so myself.
- 47:03Maybe I'm a bit far, far out here and maybe the windows
- 47:08aren't really up to date and you know, we, we need more windows
- 47:10still, but that the ships still kind of do serve this aesthetic
- 47:15purpose. But maybe I'm wrong.
- 47:16Maybe you guys disagree with me. Just so, just so we're on the
- 47:22same page. I think they've certainly
- 47:26improved. The problem is there's a lot of
- 47:28those old ships still around with old design Language with
- 47:32old component layouts is now particularly an issue.
- 47:38A lot of those older ships, especially those before like
- 47:412020 or so, have more Freelancer, yeah.
- 47:46Yeah. Very.
- 47:47Such a designed interiors and component locations, yeah.
- 47:54It's a shame. One in particular that needs a
- 47:58lot of love based. On based on the clarification
- 48:02that CIG get when I can't remember when that was it was I
- 48:05think it was in the Star Citizen live they did recently they
- 48:07talked about the difference between when they do a rework or
- 48:11when they do a mark 2 and and gold standard and what that all
- 48:16meant. In my head listening to it, I'm
- 48:18like, all right, I think they will eventually do a freelancer
- 48:22Mark 2, yeah. Because the old one is, you know
- 48:26it's serviceable. They like you know, they don't
- 48:28completely need to gut it, but it definitely needs it needs
- 48:32something new. They need a mark 2.
- 48:34I I disagree it needs to be. Gutted well as.
- 48:38The design as it. Stands just doesn't work.
- 48:41You you know what? You're right.
- 48:42I retract my statement because when I when I stopped to
- 48:45actually think about it, because you've got the whole center,
- 48:47center, central section, which is unusable.
- 48:53Yeah, but you can't use it for the.
- 48:55Cargo it's. Just there.
- 48:57So there you go CIG, it's official.
- 49:00You do need to do a complete rework on the freelancer.
- 49:05Thank you 100. So I may I may get.
- 49:07One, then Archer, last word. I'm going to bring up our next
- 49:11guest. Yeah, no.
- 49:15Just that we need, I would love to see a freelancer in the Star
- 49:18Lancer, you know, quality. I mean, I, I would, I would want
- 49:21nothing less. You know, it'd be so amazing.
- 49:23And that's what I want to say, you know, very good.
- 49:27Very good. Well, we're coming up on the end
- 49:29of the show, so this is going to be our last caller for the show,
- 49:31but it's a valuable caller. Very, very good.
- 49:34Friend of the show here, Good participant.
- 49:37Murphy Jack, leader of the Red Scar Nomads.
- 49:39Murphy, Jack, who mentioned Windows?
- 49:43Well, you did, but it's real quick silent.
- 49:47It's. Really good to.
- 49:48Hear you again. Thank you.
- 49:50You too. So glad hearing you.
- 49:52I was long time when jar. Jar messaged me and said.
- 49:55He's you're coming on the show. I was like, Oh my God, that's
- 49:57amazing. I'm honored to be here.
- 50:01Yeah, your videos kick ass as. Always thank you Windows very
- 50:08the thing. That the other day.
- 50:10Well, the other day, I don't know, it's just a couple months
- 50:12ago now, we're in an Apollo and we took it through the jump
- 50:16point and just looking out there as we're going through the jump
- 50:19point and everything, like if we were in a Drake ship, I wouldn't
- 50:23have seen any of that. It was amazing.
- 50:26And then the tour. That we did the.
- 50:28Other day with the 890, like all the places we were going and
- 50:31everything it was, it adds so much.
- 50:35Depth and shows. And you're able to see all the
- 50:39beauty that they. Make just.
- 50:40By hanging out in the ship, walking around versus being in
- 50:43the cockpit, Right. So it's definitely worth it.
- 50:45But then like you brought up the worm fight, they're also like,
- 50:50gameplay wise needed because we were able to spy on that group,
- 50:56figure out how many they had in that Med Bay, so we can organize
- 51:01and rescue our people. Yeah.
- 51:05So it. Is super important.
- 51:09I mean, yeah, I totally agree. I love windows, they just.
- 51:14They really just improve everything.
- 51:16Every aspect of the game on Mustang for sure.
- 51:21They just add a lot of feeling. It's cool.
- 51:24It's just the feeling of like walking through, like the Idris,
- 51:29you know, running down from a turret, running down the stairs
- 51:33to get in our fighter and launch.
- 51:35And we're running down the stairs, looking out the window,
- 51:37seeing where we are because we're running down to the
- 51:39surface to provide backup. Like, oh, look, OK, we're
- 51:42getting close. You know, like, go, go, go.
- 51:44It was just really neat. Just adds so much.
- 51:49It adds everything. It's a final time.
- 51:51For it. Go go go go go try time.
- 51:58I was just going to say Raven forces in chat.
- 52:00Just going into orbit hits differently.
- 52:02In a passenger seat with a window, it's amazing.
- 52:09It is. There's nothing else like it.
- 52:12I mean, just just ask yourself a simple.
- 52:14Question where? Do you want to be in a ship in
- 52:17Star Citizen as a passenger? Like when when you're jumping
- 52:22through a wormhole or going into orbit?
- 52:24Do you want to be standing in some corridor looking at, you
- 52:28know, a, a grey metal wall, or do you want to be, you're going
- 52:31to be up like standing in the cockpit, you know, looking out
- 52:34behind the the pilot or you're going to find a window that's
- 52:37where you want to be. I mean, it's it's true.
- 52:39And I mean. I mentioned this in my video,
- 52:42actually. It's like kind of a final sub
- 52:44point, you know, 1 aspect of windows that make them unlike
- 52:48anything in the game, you know, even compared to cockpits,
- 52:51right, is that they serve a very passive function.
- 52:54You can't control the ship from a window.
- 52:57And just the fact that you can't do that just changes the gate.
- 52:59It changes the feeling of standing at a window.
- 53:02You know, it's kind of just just need to feel, you know, there's
- 53:06something about the immersion, the fact that its point is being
- 53:10observational that just kind of and the heightens the experience
- 53:13even further than being at the cockpit, for instance.
- 53:15I don't know if anybody, any of you can agree with me on that.
- 53:19Yeah. It's totally there's all these
- 53:23visuals. In the game that you're not
- 53:25going to see staring at the hallway or even in a turret.
- 53:29Like turrets are the backup kind of windows if you're not in a
- 53:34cockpit or there's a ship without a lot of windows, but
- 53:38they're just not the same. It's not the.
- 53:41Same as. Like getting ready to go.
- 53:44Like I look outside of the airlock doors right before we
- 53:50like deploy and that's cool. But then sometimes it's like, I
- 53:53can't see much, let me open it up and like, OK, well, then you
- 53:55have an open door on the ship and that's a terrible idea, but
- 53:58you get to see more. And that's the thing.
- 54:00You need to see more and with a bigger window, that'd be great.
- 54:07Yeah, no, totally, Skeeter says in chat.
- 54:11The more. Windows you have, the more
- 54:13bigger thrusters you need, which bums more, which burns more
- 54:17fuel. The more windows you have, the
- 54:19more bigger thrusters you need. He's saying because they're
- 54:22heavier maybe? Oh, are they that much heavier?
- 54:27Is that why? Drake has no windows.
- 54:31Yeah, they're very heavy, that's true.
- 54:32They're very. Thick and Drake.
- 54:35Wouldn't Drake? I will not defend Drake, but
- 54:39they do have those tiny portholes on some of their
- 54:42ships. I know.
- 54:43Why not on the Corsair though? Why not on the course?
- 54:46It's my biggest like almost hate the object in this game.
- 54:49But they don't have windows in the Corsair.
- 54:51Who removed the windows? Of the Corsair.
- 54:55Because it's an. Exploration ship, right so.
- 54:57You're you're. Like.
- 54:59Right, you're you're crooning with explorers.
- 55:01Right. People who want to explore, they
- 55:03want to get out there and see stuff.
- 55:05And then what do you do? You encase them in a huge metal
- 55:07tube or box or oblong and then just shoot them into space.
- 55:14Yeah. Yeah, I mean it's.
- 55:16Lasers an exploration. Ship it is not it is a pirate
- 55:20ship. It's just a giant.
- 55:22It's a gunboat. It's a it's a shittier gunboat
- 55:25because it's like, that's not true.
- 55:27It's actually. It's entirely true.
- 55:29It's a shitty ship. I'm saying it does provide.
- 55:32Motivation to get out and explore the planet.
- 55:34When you land, you're like, Oh my God, let me.
- 55:37Yeah, yeah. Exactly hide exactly lying tomb.
- 55:41Motivation through fair fear. No, what what what baffles me is
- 55:48that. They they had windows.
- 55:49In the concept it had Windows. In the concept and then.
- 55:53They're just gone. You know, they had small portals
- 55:58in every kind of room. But now that it doesn't have
- 56:01windows and just baffles me, it disappoints me immeasurably
- 56:04actually. Like unreasonably much, do you
- 56:07think? That is.
- 56:08Like there's some like it's more difficult for them because maybe
- 56:12it's like another layer or something or adds time to the
- 56:15ship development to put in windows somehow.
- 56:18They have to make, you know, because you can't.
- 56:20You can no longer have just the mesh of an object be this flat
- 56:23thing. You have to cut a porthole in it
- 56:25and then cut a piece of glass to put in it or something.
- 56:28In terms of developing the game, do you think that's why we're
- 56:31not getting quite as many or they're removing them from ship
- 56:35from the concepts? You know, I've heard that
- 56:39argument. For not having any.
- 56:42Windows, but I mean I feel. Like it, it can't be that much
- 56:45work. But I, I will say I'm not
- 56:46experienced in the field of like computer, like gaming, like
- 56:49creating a game. So maybe somebody else is more
- 56:52experienced, more qualified to answer this.
- 56:56Not here, not here. All right.
- 56:59Well then I think it's just a dumb excuse.
- 57:03I could only. Imagine there's something.
- 57:05Involving performance hits for too many windows.
- 57:08But that's, I mean, my Phoenix does fine and it has, yeah, it's
- 57:15tons of windows. There are.
- 57:16Examples of the in the game. Of ships that have plenty of
- 57:19windows and it's it's not a problem, yeah.
- 57:24Totally. It could be a.
- 57:25Culling thing. Maybe, I don't know, it could
- 57:29just be totally overlooking it honestly.
- 57:32I mean, the simplest answer is usually true I think.
- 57:35I mean we, we recently. I had a chance to to, you know,
- 57:40what do they, what do they say to pull the ear to, to, to grab
- 57:43the ear? I know I had, I had the ear of a
- 57:46couple of guys at CIG involved with ships and I told them
- 57:52Windows we need, Yeah. And they they agreed.
- 57:56They were like you. Know they said it's true we like
- 58:00windows too and and we love windows we'll.
- 58:04We'll get more windows. So glad to hear.
- 58:07That. If you're listening and I'm
- 58:09sure. You are, you know who you are.
- 58:12I'm waiting for my windows. We would love to have more
- 58:15windows. We.
- 58:16Just have tech debt for Windows. Shut up promo.
- 58:23All. Right.
- 58:24Well, we're coming on the the. Hour of the show here and so we
- 58:27are we are going to wind it down here, Archer.
- 58:31What we usually do here is we usually go around for the end of
- 58:34the show and we ask everyone the same question.
- 58:37All right, we're going to do that again.
- 58:38We go. In reverse order.
- 58:40We're going to start with Murphy Jack.
- 58:43Murphy Jack, is there anything you'd like to say to Chris
- 58:46Roberts, CIG or the people on the Internet?
- 58:50The CIG keep going on the windows, but let's get some
- 58:53tinted windows to the people on the Internet documents that are
- 58:56all black. I heard you earlier.
- 58:59Documents that are all. Black are not documents at all
- 59:03that. Was an underrated bit charger.
- 59:05I I. I got to give you credit, it was
- 59:07a very underrated bit. I I hope we that that's just a
- 59:09way to to waste. I immediately got it and I want.
- 59:13People to hear it, yeah. Yeah, it's just.
- 59:16Whatever, it's not what the show's about, but it's that's in
- 59:18like, it's insane, but it's also totally predictable and it's a
- 59:22lack of transparency and. That covers Windows.
- 59:25That covers Windows lack of transparency.
- 59:28We. Got to redo.
- 59:29The show. We got to.
- 59:30Redo the whole thing from the top Cosmic hobo.
- 59:36Anything you want to say to CIG? Chris Roberts of the People on
- 59:38the Internet. So Windows are.
- 59:40Great, but like. Global illumination please, so
- 59:43we can properly use those windows.
- 59:47What do you What is global illumination?
- 59:49There so you know how lighting is kind of.
- 59:51Static and fixed right now with only a few exceptions.
- 59:56That's because lighting is currently just kind of baked in,
- 1:00:00and we need global illumination to have more dynamic lighting.
- 1:00:05So like the light source it's selfish sending out OK they
- 1:00:10showed this off in citizen gun like.
- 1:00:11Two years ago now I think is the.
- 1:00:15The example would be like a moving light source, changing
- 1:00:18the way the light hits inside of the ship.
- 1:00:24More so than like now. OK, so you know how.
- 1:00:26Like in the in the the day, in the night time, you can see into
- 1:00:30people's houses through their windows.
- 1:00:33Yeah, very easily. But in daytime, yeah.
- 1:00:37Just. OK.
- 1:00:37You know. And but in the daytime,
- 1:00:40depending if it's brighter outside than inside, the window
- 1:00:44could be wide open, but you really can't see into it.
- 1:00:47Yeah, and I'm sure there's. Fancy words to explain this, but
- 1:00:51yes. But is.
- 1:00:53Global illumination going. To like have this effect, I
- 1:00:57don't know. I I I know what it will do is
- 1:01:01allow for more dynamic light sources instead of how
- 1:01:04everything's just sort of static and baked in now.
- 1:01:09I guess my. Question is, can I walk?
- 1:01:10Around my hab naked in the daytime.
- 1:01:13You could do that anytime. You can.
- 1:01:16You can do that anyway like we. Don't have windows in most of
- 1:01:18the. Habs for most of the planets.
- 1:01:23Yeah, that's actually a fairpoint and.
- 1:01:25Stations, like stations, don't have letters at.
- 1:01:26All about their habs. What's your point?
- 1:01:29Duke. No, I'll wait for my turn.
- 1:01:32OK, OK, well, you don't get. Whatever.
- 1:01:34All right. Silent Archer.
- 1:01:36Silent Archer's turn, Duke. Silent Archer.
- 1:01:38Anything you want to say to CIG, Chris Roberts, or the people on
- 1:01:41the Internet? I mean to CIG and Chris Roberts.
- 1:01:45I mean, I guess thank you for making this game.
- 1:01:47I mean, it's it's honestly, you know, I may criticize it and so
- 1:01:50on, but it's such a fantastic, you know, service to humanity,
- 1:01:54honestly making this game and I'm just so grateful for that.
- 1:01:56And to be able to cover it and make cinematics and stuff is
