Transcript
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, welcome back to the Beyond Limits podcast.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Joining me here today is Jessica Carter.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: You may know her from her viral videos, all about how to edit her yapping reels and for making over$700,000 in I believe a little over three weeks, which she's going to share with us today for her non-techie apps course.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: So, Jessica, welcome to the show.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Thank you for having me.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: I'm excited to be here.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: So I want to start off kind of right in the beginning when you were about to take the yap challenge.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Because I believe that's kind of what kicked off this whole, I'm going to call it a quantum leap trajectory.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: People called it all the different types of things.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: It's you had that nudge from God.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And I want you to really dive into what that nudge felt like.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Like why now?
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Why was it that time and how that looked like for you?
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh, it's actually kind of hard to put my finger on sometimes because I feel like it was such a long time coming.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: And I've had lots of ups and downs with social media.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: I've been on Instagram for, you know, well over a decade.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: And I always had kind of a pull towards it.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: You know, there's those people that hate social media and they spend very little time on it and they'd rather live under a rock.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: And I've always kind of wished I could be that person, but it never felt right for me.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: So I just felt that pull back again.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: And um, I didn't know if this time would be different, but I started having just some movement in my spirit, like I felt almost called to do it.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: And and then around that same time when I started getting some clarity and deciding, okay, I need to go all in, is when the Yap Challenge came out.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: And so it was like early May, things started to change in my mind and my heart around social media.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: And then I don't remember when, but Jesse Jean's Yap Challenge popped up on my page and signed up immediately.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Um, and at the time that was a big investment for us.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: And uh June 1st was on her live call.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: And I feel like I call it a mental unlock because it was like all of the years of learning and trial and error kind of came to a head.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: And then things that she taught and the way she taught them, it was like, okay, this is where I'm this is how I do it, and this is what it looks like for me, at least for the next however long it takes.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: So that was definitely the biggest catalyst.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Do you find that you were either like frustrated or deflated with social media before?
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Or was something you kind of just putzed around?
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: This was like, okay, this is my last attempt.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Like, how were you kind of feeling emotionally going into the gap challenge?
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Were you excited or more of it like a hopefully this is the thing that allows me?
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Because I know you said you were doing real estate before.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Like you've been doing content for a while in different niches and everything like that.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Um, it was it was mainly excitement and it was also knowing I was about to push myself out of my comfort zone because social media to me before had been hiding at B-roll has its place, but for me, I was hiding behind surface level content and knowing that I wanted to share more and share my story and actually put my face out there and resonate with people.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: And that's just really hard to do with surface level content where you're not like sharing more.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I I was mainly excited, nervous.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: And but the the difference was this time it wasn't just a little fling, let's see what happens.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: It was like, I'm gonna do this until it works.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: And that was kind of the shift in my mindset.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And I find that shift is huge because when you're kind of one foot in, one foot out, I'm gonna try this, let's see what happens, but you're never quite going fully in where you feel exposed, or you're putting on the line, or you're actually putting, and not necessarily more hours or effort, because I'm sure you were putting effort before, but just more of your heart, more of you behind it.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: That's like the results match when you're there's more of you.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: It's like I I knew that this was it and I didn't have a plan B.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: So I know the video that started really getting traction was like the how I edit my yaps.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: What made you want to make a video on how you edit your yaps?
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: And I know you said it was so basic that you almost didn't post it and you said that to your husband, but before that, I mean, wasn't it like day in my life?
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Like a little bit, it was kind of like almost out of nowhere.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: So what was like the that download like I'm gonna show people how I know people wanted to hear, but like, couldn't you kind of paint us in that picture?
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: This is why I tell people not to make too much of a plan.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Because if I had like, okay, this is the series I'm gonna make, and then this is what I'm gonna talk about after that, and then it's gonna lead to this, I would have shot myself in the foot because I at the most I had like one or two days of content that I felt confident about.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: I was just showing up one day at a time.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, what do I feel called or clarity to talk about today?
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And I would make that thing.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: So um, yeah, I was doing Day in the Life, motherhood content, get ready with me.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: I started doing voiceovers to share some parts of our story.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: And um, my first like series was six videos about my starting from scratch journey on social media.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: And those are the ones I put a lot of time and effort into editing because I wanted to actually keep people's attention.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: And I didn't have anything planned after that series, and I was kind of running out of ideas while I started noticing people were asking all these questions about editing, and I honestly got sick of answering the same questions over and over.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: What edit, what editing app do you use?
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: What font is this?
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: How do you do this?
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: How do you do that?
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: And I was like, okay, well, I've learned a lot in the last few weeks editing, so I guess that'll be my next series since I told people I'm gonna bring them along my journey and show them what I'm learning.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Let me just show them what I'm learning.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: And that's how I decided to do that.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I never ever thought that somebody would look at me and be like, I want to learn editing from you.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: But that's what happened.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: What I'm hearing too is it's like following the breadcrumbs.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Like there was no overthinking.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: It was just like, oh, breadcrumb.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, someone's asking, can't do this.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, breadcrumb, do this, oh, breadcrumb.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: And it's like this moment to moment being connected to God, like following those like little nudges, and it's not like this cloud parting, you should do this.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And that's why I think sometimes it's subtle.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: It's like it's these breadcrumbs, but you need that like silence and that space to be able to see the breadcrumbs, follow them, but then also not overthink them or not like get too much in your head around them.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's exactly what it was.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: It's pretty cool.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: And so I want to talk about the launch, obviously.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: You had no idea, I don't think that in your wildest, dreamiest dreams that I mean you I know you saw Jesse Jeans and like her numbers are massive and huge, but what were you feeling going into it?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Obviously, you knew there was some demand because people were asking, but walk us through like you launched and like the the flood that came in and how that has continued to also kind of like the whole internet got behind you.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's how it felt, which I just got goosebumps because it was really pretty cool to be a part of.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: And I honestly just feel like I was a part of it, not even, I don't know, it was crazy.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, I knew there was demand.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: I literally made sure there was plenty of demand before I committed to building this thing because again, I don't, I didn't want to teach editing.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Like I know that sounds cheesy, like anybody would teach anything if they knew they were about to make money, but that was so outside of my comfort zone because I had literally just learned it, taught myself it.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: And so I wanted to make sure there was a lot of demand there and there was.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: And I was literally asking Chat GPT, okay, what's the conversion rate on wait lists typically for a low-ticket digital product?
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: And it was like 10 or 20%.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: So I was doing the math and I was like, all right, well, if 3,000 people are on my wait list, let's say a thousand people sign up, I'd be really happy if I ended up grossing like$35,000.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: That would be worth it to me to build this thing.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: And so that's what I was going in, kind of expecting.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: And the energy leading up to me opening the doors that first time was so high, so good.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Like I knew that it was gonna sell.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: I just didn't expect it to sell the way it did and then kind of the launch itself go viral and people get behind me just like supporting almost a movement.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Like people were bought into the editing, yes, but then they were also bought into like seeing another mom win.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that was really neat.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: I want to dive into, and I know you have a a course coming up on like what you think made the launch so successful now that you've reflected back and like things you did or did not do.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: I'd love to know your stance on how much being a you know, stay-at-home mom to three boys actually really helped the demand of your launch.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Because I know you always say, like, I'm not a business coach, I'm not this, I'm not a techie person, but I actually think that you not being techie is what made it so successful.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: The the almost not like lack of a third, but you're not like a photographer, a cinematographer who's trying to teach you these complex things.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: It's like I'm staying home up, like that's what you do me to you.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh, okay, I'm a non-techie person.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Help me.
- 8:32unknown: Yeah.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: For you to like dive in and kind of like how maybe people either disqualify themselves, like, oh, I'm a mom, I'm this, what can I teach?
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: And they think that if they don't have a certain schooling degree or 10 years experience, they're like, yeah, what is your whole stance?
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: It's why I keep saying over and over, like, just don't plan so much because you don't know.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: You could be learning right now the thing that people are gonna want to pay you for in two months.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: That's literally what happened to me.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: And that first video started going viral, and it was the first time I had a video go viral and actually convert to followers that were like wanting more.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: I've had viral videos before, and yes, some of them would lead to followers, but it was just kind of randomness.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: This was the first time I was getting thousands of followers like in a few hours, and that shocked me because at the time I had 12,000 followers, and so growing 7,000 overnight from one video, literally overnight, was like really weird.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: And so I went on my Instagram stories and I was like, guys, what what's happening?
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Because I am not the editing queen.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Like this was such in my mind, he was a basic video because the video tutorials I was watching were people who were f uh uh teaching really fancy techniques.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: And so that's what I thought of when I thought of somebody to teach editing.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: What I forgot was I personally in that moment was still five steps ahead or 10, six, two steps ahead from the people who were watching me.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: And there's one follower who went in my DMs and she said, You are not the teacher or the professor, you're the tutor.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: You don't have to know it all.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: You just have to know a little bit more than everybody else who's watching you and pull them up with you.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: So I was like, oh wow, that's that has stuck with me since then because it was kind of my aha moment.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't have to be this super techie editing for 15 years cinematic mode person.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Like I can just teach what I know, and people want to know that.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: It was yeah.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think that's what makes it so appealing.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: It's just like, oh, it's simple.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Have you heard the saying simple scales, complex fails?
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: I think it's because you make it so simple to like more accessible to them.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: People want something, oh, I want a simple way to do this.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: I don't want to spend, you know, hours and hours or complex things or overlays in Capcut.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: And because Capcut is a lot more intimidating, overwhelming than edits.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: So when you're saying things like, oh, the free edits app, I'm like, oh, I can get behind this.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, I could get behind this.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, I still to this day, I don't really understand how all this happened.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: So I want to pick your brain one more thing about the launch.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Is there one other thing that looking back now surprised you about it in the sense of oh, I can see how that either contributed to that or something that you feel like people may not guess about the launch?
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: The first thing that comes to mind is I knew I was about to be selling a lot on my page and I was basically gonna be beating a dead horse talking about editing and selling this course.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: And so I expected my story views to drop and my like people to unfollow and get annoyed with my page.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: And I was okay with that because the right people were still gonna want to be bought into what I was doing.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: The opposite actually happened, which was my story, my my page went viral during that launch, that first launch week, and my page grew up like 20,000 people during those few days.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: And then um my story views skyrocketed.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: It was like people and people said this.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: They were looking at my page like it was their favorite Netflix show.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: So I think what my advice to people would be bring people along for the journey, because that's literally what I did from day one, starting with my starting from scratch series.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: It's like, hey, I'm gonna just show you guys what I'm learning and I'm gonna bring you along with you, with me.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna show you what I'm making.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: And I didn't just start that when I started making tons of money during my launch.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: I started it when my income was 200 bucks from social media, and I was, and then I continued it when I told them, all right, I'll teach you what I'm learning with editing.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: And then I continued bringing them along with the launch, and people were watching the story unfold.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: And I looking back, I can see now why it was so impactful.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: But in the moment, that's what surprised me so much was like people being bought into this story unfolding.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: And I was like, what is going on?
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: It was just shocking to me that people were so obsessed with watching it.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: But seeing you win, I was like, yeah, whole I ever wanted to see you win.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: I think what you said about the journey is so important because that I think is what creates so much of that.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: We're in it with you.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: So we're seeing you do like, oh, oh, she's playing, oh, this when you want to buy, oh my god, this, this.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay, give me the launch updates.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know, how many more people join today?
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: What like it's exciting for us to watch.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Like it really is.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: And not from like a okay, we binge watched and like while eating our popcorn, but like an actual what it does, I think, to our assistants in terms of showing people the possibility and seeing, like, oh, she started with this series and then she found this, and then she followed that breadcrumb.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: It's like we're on an emotional journey that makes us I feel like believe that it's possible for us if we're watching it.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: It it honestly made me and still makes me so emotional because I feel like I just got lucky with this amazing audience because there's lots of haters obviously out there, but my audience was full of people who who literally found joy watching me win.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: And that shocked me too, was just the amount of people who were bought into my success, even though it didn't affect them at all, besides maybe inspiring them and stuff, which but the like the amount of messages I got of people just like cheering me on and supporting me, and yeah, it was mind-blowing.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: And I mean, I feel like that's all God just bringing the right people to my my page and I don't know.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: I wanna I know the majority is good people.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: I do want to touch on like the conspiracy theorist because I think there's with you, with Jesse Jean, like everyone, whenever we see like a quote unquote anomaly, or we think you know, we see someone blow up, people get analyzed, right?
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh, is it this thing?
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Is it because she did this?
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Is it that?
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Some people do it in a positive light, some people want to do it to tear you down, to justify maybe why or create reasons why they can't, etc.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: And I think one of the funniest ones is about your messy bun being a marketing tactic that, you know, that you're using to be relatable.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, guys, like no, this is just Jessica.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: Like, I think that's what's beautiful.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: If the messy bun is not like a manipulation thing she's doing, she's just being authentically herself with a messy bun because that's how she is.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: She's just normally in that.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: I'd love for you to kind of like speak on how either hilarious you found it.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: I'm hoping you found it hilarious and it didn't, you know, hurt your feelings at first, but you can go into that if it did, but also just like the funniness of things like it's your messy bun.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: It's like it's not the messy bun.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think maybe some people putting up their hair into a messy bun to try to come across more authentic, maybe that is a marketing scheme.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: For me, it wasn't because it literally was just me trying to figure out how to how to get lower the barrier to entry between I just put my kids down for a nap and now I need to record a video.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: It was like I don't want to have to worry about what my hair looks like.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: And so yeah, uh, I wouldn't say any of it has offended me.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: I think it's interesting being in the spotlight the way I have because I've had to get used to, okay, well, now just part of the gig is I'm gonna get hate, no matter how many people and uh trust me, 99% of it is love, and I'm grateful for that.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: And that's what I want to focus on.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: And like I never want to give the people, the haters, more attention than the people who have been supporting me since day one.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's been interesting to see the the random things that people want to latch on to.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: And I think it's I think it's very simple when somebody sees somebody else doing something that they maybe deep down wish that they could do, they I think subconsciously make up a reason why that person is able to do it or willing to do it that takes them out of the equation, like that counts them out.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: So whether it be about how I do my hair or how I market or the color of my skin, I think those are all things that people have like made up as an excuse as to why I was able to do what I did.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, naturally, I like one guy said I am basically a thief.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: And because he's not willing to be a thief and take people's money, he's never gonna be successful, is basically what he was saying.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: And it was just so interesting.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: And so I think it's just a way for people to excuse their lack of action by putting my success on something that they're not willing to identify with, if that makes sense.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, 100%.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: And so it's been interesting.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: And I will say in the past, I think this all would have gotten to me a lot more, but this time around, like I said, it was different.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: I felt called to do this, and I feel like God was leading me every step of the way, literally every step, and with me every step, and I felt his peace at every step.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: And so because of that, I'm able to like stand confidently and know I'm doing what I feel called to do, and I don't have to have any guilt.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Um, if I was doing it on my own strength and trying to get as many people as possible to like me, I think it would have affected me a lot more.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: But I can just confidently say, like, I know God led me here and I know he's doing work through me that I chose that I'm meant to do.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: And so your comment about my messy bun or whatever else doesn't affect me.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: So it's been easier for me to ignore it than I think it would have been in the past.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: I definitely want to jump back to your faith, but I'm just remembering another funny one about someone saying, like, oh, it's something like it's because your name's Jessica.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: So it's Jessica and Jesse.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, that there's a preference for like Jessica's in the algorithm.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: I'm like, guys, like it's not because her name is Jessica and it's similar to Jesse, and then that's like why I think it's a funny.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: So I mean, yeah, but I think the someone else right now is going viral for Claude editing the the reels or something like that.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: Her name is not Jessica.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: So yeah, guys, it's not because like her name is Jessica, so it's it's really like so so funny.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: I find those comments funny.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think most of those were more of a joke, like, oh, I need to change my name and maybe it'll happen to me.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: So with you leading it, I want you to talk about now that you've made all this money, and I'm guessing this is more than you've made in a year ever before.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Yes?
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: I'm just confirming.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Um, how has that either changed your life or not changed your life and how you feel around money?
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: And I know you were recently talking about like stewarding money and you know how it could be tempting to grip money now that you have it.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: And sometimes people think, like, oh, if I had money, it wouldn't grip.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: But you know, when you come into this, you know, skyrocket of skyrocket of success, it can almost be like, well, is that gonna come again?
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Like, is it gonna happen?
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Is this my one and only shot?
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: I just went viral, that's it, we're done.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: I'd love for you to kind of like speak on your stance on that and how it's kind of affected your life.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's interesting because I feel like I'm currently working through that, like as we speak.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Um, the the first launch, I was, I could tell, and a lot of people say, like, you have financial thermostats around money.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: And I don't have a lot of experience when it comes to like nervous system work and things like that, but my nervous system was shot.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: And I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I had never made that amount of money so quickly.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: And it was almost like this, to be honest with you, it was almost like this guilt feeling.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: And I felt like sick to my stomach.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: And I knew I had nothing to feel guilty about, but it was like what just happened, like I've never, it was just, it was just these feelings I had to work through and that really affected me physically.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: I was lit like literally nauseous for two weeks straight.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: It was the weirdest thing.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: That's one thing I haven't talked about much.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Um, but I plan to.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, as far as the fear, like when I tell you God has always provided, he has always provided.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: And so anytime I go go there in my mind where I'm like, okay, well, what if this is the end?
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: Like, I just have to go back to he has never let us down and he always has something around the corner.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: And so I I have, I've started to go there in my mind, like, okay, well, what up, what do I do after this next launch or what does next year look like?
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: What if I don't ever make this amount of money again?
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: And and I have to just shut off those thoughts because why am I worrying about something when I know that God's hand has been on this and he's just gonna take me wherever he has me next?
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: And and I think with that is gonna come blessings and I just wanna be wise now in the moment.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: And so, yeah.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: How do you feel like in terms of your family in your day-to-day?
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: How has it changed if it has like the day-to-day life of your family?
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Like, do you feel like, oh, now there's almost like the this exhale because there is, you know, this whole bank of money?
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Like, how does that kind of feel for you and your family?
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Um, definitely an exhale.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: And, you know, we're just kind of getting ducks in a row.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: I was able to get a mom car, which was a fun thing.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: Like my boys were kind of stuffing into a little hatchback where if my 13-year-old was in the backseat, he had to kind of sit sideways between the two car seats.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: And so we've gotten to lean into blessings like being able to replace that and and get a three-row car that our family can grow into.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: And um, so yeah, it's definitely been an exhale and just a lot of gratitude, a lot of gratitude, and then just kind of.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Taking it one step at a time as far as how we can use this to set up our future.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: So how does your husband feel?
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Like he must be like, I know you've been on the online space for a while and like creating content.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: And you know, you did the webinar with when one person showed up and everything like that.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: So I I know he's probably like understanding somewhat that you can sell digital courses, but he must have been like even more mind blown.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Like this must also be for him.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Like, what just happened?
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there was some of that, but at the same time, he I think believed in me before I did or more than I did.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: And just he he would be the first to say it was just a matter of time with her.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: And he's always said that.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I'm about to cry.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: As soon as you said that I could just feel wow.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: He has he has been the number one most supportive person, no matter what it was, no matter how it went, it was go for it.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: And it was I believe in you.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: And so, yes, there was obviously some shock with the magnitude of this one.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I don't like he would be the first to say he's actually not surprised.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: So it's very sweet.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: I lure it and I tears are in my eyes because like I could feel the truth when you say that, but like he actually deeply not something like you know, motivational to say, but like sees you as God sees you essentially.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: Yes, which is very cool.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: And I feel very lucky and blessed because I have done digital products before and he supported those ones and they didn't do well.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Or I changed my mind.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: I had like, you know, squirrel, like I would just constantly pivot.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: And he was like, okay, well, I believe in you still.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: And it was just constantly that.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: And this time around, he I literally brought up the yap challenge and I was like, babe, it's$297.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Like, I feel like I need to invest in this.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: And he said, do it.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: No questions asked.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: And so, yeah, I love all this.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: I love it so much.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: What would you say to someone who is maybe feeling discouraged with social media or is feeling like, you know, they've tried thing after thing after thing and they haven't had their break or they haven't had what they consider a successful launch or whatever it is.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: And then they see people like you or Jesse blowing up, or I'm not sure this other new person's name, but the club, but you know, whoever it is.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: And then that makes them feel like, okay, well, how am I not doing enough?
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: And I feel like I'm trying to listen to God and like, well, why am I like when is it my turn?
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: And what would you say to them?
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: I have been in those shoes, and I feel like the difference, me in those shoes, I was white knuckling everything, just trying to control and trying to do, do, do and strive.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: And one of the biggest difference makers, and I've talked about this a few times, is like this is the first time that I truly invited God into my business because it was like, and that was part of my light bulb moment was okay, if I feel called to do this, that's from him.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: And part of me, I think for so long felt uh uh silly, like why why would God call somebody to social media?
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: But then it was this realization and this clarity that he needs people in this space and he can use people in this space.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: And I think he's literally actively showing me well, let me back up.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: One thing I've struggled with, you know, I've been a quote unquote Christian my whole life.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: And um, I think one thing I've struggled with is feeling like in order to make an impact for his kingdom, I had to like be a missionary or be involved like working for the church or something that's like very hands-on ministry.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: And but I never felt called to those things.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: Like I never felt like that was where my life was supposed to be.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: I have always felt drawn to business and entrepreneurship and social media, and it was like this clarity around okay, he he needs people like me in these spaces.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: And so I finally invited him in.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, I don't have to figure out my own social media plan on my own.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: I don't have to figure out what I'm gonna talk today about today.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: He wants to give that to me.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: And so it was inviting him in.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: It would literally be big things like, okay, Lord, what do you want to do with with me through social media?
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Or I don't know what to talk about today.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: What should I talk about today?
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: And he would give me something to talk about and or give me clarity on something.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: And so I feel like the shift for me and what I would tell them is instead of white knuckling it, just like relax a little bit, invite him in and see what he has for you.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: Not everybody is called to do social media, but if you have that stirring in your spirit like I did, or you're watching people like Jesse Jean and myself do this and it's unlocking something in you, that that is there for a reason.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: Like lean into that.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Watching her and me leaning into that feeling was a catalyst.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: So if watching me is making you feel that and you and you feel this like huge stirring in your spirit, lean into it, but stop white knuckling your way through it.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Like you don't have to, it's probably not gonna go the way you think it will.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: And so when it comes to like inviting God in and what that looks like pangely, if someone's hearing this, they're like, Okay, but how do I invite him in?
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: When you say like you ask, are like what's the routine, if you will?
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Are you sitting there asking?
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: Because someone can be like, Well, I've asked, and I've had people say this to me, I've asked, but I'm hearing nothing, like I'm not getting the information.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: Like, was there a buffering period for you?
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Did you have to wait a few days?
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Is it now where it's so strong where you ask a question and then like within a few seconds, oh, we're gonna talk about this today.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: Kind of like, how did that how did you invite him in and what did that look like in terms of either?
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: I know you're big in the morning routine, what did it look like?
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: So someone listening can be like, all right, this is what I can do.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, tangibly it's not as complicated or this like big thing as people make it out to be.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: I I don't hear God's voice audibly.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: Um, some people do.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: I think everybody hears his voice differently.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: But one thing that people need to know is that he wants to speak to you and he's not trying to make it this big, hard thing to hear his voice.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: And it's not like, oh, if you if you listen a little bit harder, maybe you'll hear me this time.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's not like that.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: He wants to speak to you and he wants you to hear him.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: So the thing that the the piece of advice that I give people is you do have to make space for that.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: And for me, that looks like prioritizing my morning routine and quiet time and um just making space like uh to to be in his word, because in order to hear his voice and recognize his voice, you have to know what that sounds like.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: And so reading the Bible consistently, um, but it's not like this is the exact prayer I pray, and then I hear his voice.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: No, it's gonna be different for everybody.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: And it's very simple.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Like if I'm journaling and I have something on my mind, it's like, all right, Lord, I know that I have this, this launch coming up.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: Will you give me creativity, clarity?
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: And it's not like I sit there and wait, and then if he doesn't speak within 10 minutes, I'm like, okay, well, that's like I just know and expect that he wants to speak and he wants to share and he wants to guide.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: And and if I am tuning into him and leaving that space and then able to recognize his voice, and it's gonna be easier for me to feel those nudges.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: And for me, his voice is like nudges in my spirit.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: It's never condemning, it's never harsh, it's never guilt, which is why I knew that guilt after my first launch was not from him.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: Um, it's it's never that.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: It's always peace, clarity, and like a calmness in my spirit that just felt feels led a certain way.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: And then sometimes he speaks through other people or um a podcast and he affirms what he what he feel what you feel like you're hearing.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: And so it's it's a lot of different ways.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, we could talk about this all day long.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: How to hear Buzz's voice, but I think it's different for everybody.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's your next course.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, seriously.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Actually, that's funny because a lot of people have asked me what you just asked me is how do you hear?
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: What does it look like?
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: What do you say?
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: And maybe that's why I just said maybe that's your next course.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: But there's your breadcrumb.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: I like what you said about getting to know like the almost like the texture of that voice.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: I'm sure we have lots of different voices in our head.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: Some voices can be fear-based, some voices can be like, well, you should do this, and if you don't, you'll fail.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: And it can be like, or don't do this.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: And sometimes those voices aren't actually the ones nudging you in the right direction.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: So you really have to get to know how you feel it and what that feels like for you.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: So you know when the direction is him versus something else or fear or limitations.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: And you can't possibly figure that out if you don't have the space and you're trying to force your way and trying to force yourself to kind of like hear something or figure it out.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: Cause to me, that's very mental mind.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: You're not gonna like figure it out through trying to like just wait.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was like that for many years, just trying to like do it on my own and work harder and make a better plan and strive and we're gonna touch on the work harder.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: I want to touch on the work harder.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's important.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: And the thought that I mean, I know you work hard on your content, you provide lots of valuable content, but so do a lot of other people.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: How have you kind of either, because you touched on guilt before, either rectified that in your mind and or unhooked the I need to work harder because I'm sure you put effort into a previous launches and then this one isn't?
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: Like, how does that kind of go now in your mind now that you've seen, oh, it's not necessarily the white knuckling?
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: It's it's a balance of like yes, I'm working extremely hard.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: And I'm in a season where my, you know, I'm not as active as a stay-at-home mom as I want to be.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm a stay-at-home mom, yes, but my kids are at daycare right now, and they have been a lot more than normal.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: And I I am at peace with that season of I'm working harder and but it's like because I felt called to, not because I'm just striving on my own, on my own goals all by myself.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: And so I feel like there are seasons and I'm in a season where it's it's late hours and it's a lot of work and it's um, you know, making sacrifices and and I'm okay with that.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: I think before it was trying to make my own way all by myself and and then never having that peace about what I was doing.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like this is like God-led versus before it maybe was less, not at all, but just like not as you know, you weren't as much in the slipstream or as tapped in as you were that.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: So it feels like, oh, by doing this, I'm not forcing anything or I'm not doing this for self.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: It's very much I'm just following God and the nudges and they're like, oh, that's what we're doing.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: That's what we're getting.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Yes, exactly.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: What would you say when it comes to social media and creating like engaging reels and whether it's yapping or otherwise, that you think people like the highest ROI thing for them to focus on when it comes to editing specifically, or what oh, sure.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Let's start with editing.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: Whatever came to your mind first.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: Um I would say the biggest ROI would be structuring your script in a way that is more like storytelling focused and keeps people engaged.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: And that goes down to a lot of like short-form psychology.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: And that was one of the things I taught myself.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Um, Jesse Jean talks about it a lot in her Yap challenge.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: Um I actually only made it through like day six of the challenge.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: So I don't know what all she covers, but she opened my eyes to the fact that like people who are who are successful at talking to the camera aren't just going on and blabbing on.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: There's actually structure and plan to what they're saying and how they're saying it.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: So that I would say is probably the biggest ROI um as far as how you structure your your reels and what you're saying.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: And then as far as editing is just cutting out silence, like getting all the dead space out and making sure it's a quick moving video because people don't have the attention spans anymore.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: So you plan out every single one of your talking reels.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: You you know what you're going to say.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: You kind of like you're not even hanging it on and like going for it.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 99% of them.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: My first few that I recorded, I never posted because I just like turned on the camera and sat there and just started talking about what I wanted to talk about.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: And some people can do that.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: They can riff and and they're really good at it.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: And that's awesome for them.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: I'm not like that.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: And I think that shocks a lot of people because a lot of people are surprised to find out that I use a teleprompter.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: And I do in almost all of my videos because otherwise I'll just ramble on and on.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: So I I do, I I know what what I want to say in the order I want to say it in.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: And I've practiced it enough where it's familiar.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: I can just I can say it without having to read anything or like read the teleprompter, but it's it's it helps me get my message across more clearly.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: So, like I said, some people can can rip off the cuff and and that works for them.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: I feel like I can communicate more clearly and more effectively by planning what I want to say, just like I would if I'm doing like a keynote speech.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Um, that's how I view my content, is I want this to be effective.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: And so I'm gonna plan and and work hard at it instead of just winging it too much.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I like that shift in terms of, oh, I'm using this because I feel like scared versus like, no, I care about my content.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: So I want it to be organized, I want it to be structured, I want to get my point across.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: It's like again, lowing lowering the barrier, kind of like you were saying before in terms of the hair, where people are like, well, I don't know how to talk that well off the riff and I need a script.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, then use a teleprompter.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: Okay, but I don't have full in-hair makeup on.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: Okay, wear a messy bun.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: So there's all these, like, it seems like you've removed all these barriers.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: All right, I want to be to the point, I mean a teleprompter.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: All right, I don't want to have to fully get ready.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: Messy bun, it is, let's go.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: And like you've shown that you can be obviously very successful with doing all that.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: Like the perfection is not required.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: No perfection required, which was like the biggest release for me.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Like, okay, I if I'm gonna do this and if I want to grow on social media and all this stuff, I wanna do it as me.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: Because if I'm growing and like, let's say, let's say I did do all of this and my hair was done and my and I had a full face of makeup on every single time, and I was showing up super curated, and here I am at 200 something thousand followers, I would feel pressured to continue showing up as that version.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: And I remember there was a day I wanted to show up on my stories, and I I don't know, I don't remember how many followers I had.
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: It was before all this growth.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: So maybe let's say 12,000 followers.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: And I hesitated because I didn't really look great.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: And I had this thought, I need to get used to this, like pushing myself outside of my comfort zone now because it's only gonna get harder if I build this platform on a version of me that's not truly authentic.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: Now, are there days that I just am not gonna show up on camera?
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: But letting go of that like feeling like I had to look a certain way or do my hair a certain way or whatever was really freeing.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: And I think it is for so many people, and they don't realize like how much authenticity is important.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: They think they either need to look this way or look that way, or like, all right, Jessica does a messy bun, so I should do messy button.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: Like, no, you should do what is you.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: And if that is, you know, more hair, more makeup, more professional, more cinematic, more blazers, or if it's like a t-shirt messy bun.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: Like, I think it's the authenticity, but I think this is where people get distracted by like the noise and they start thinking that like, oh, this person went bio super successful.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: I need to be like that.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, God wants you to be like you.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: And if you just turned that up and you started listening to that, I think, well, A, you'll be more successful, but also you will feel a lot lighter than feeling like there's something wrong or you're not enough, or you need to look a certain way before you can have all that.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's always gonna be my message.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: And we've, you know, we've joked about the messy bun thing.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: And I love the messy bun.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: Do not take it.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: I added some of this, but like it you gotta keep at least some of it, the messy bun.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: I love the messy bun.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, trust me, uh my hair is up all the time.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: So uh yeah, I needed to show up a little more professional today and I wanted to.
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but you nailed it because if people are looking at me and like, okay, well, she's authentic, so I need to start doing my hair in a messy bun, then you've completely missed the whole point.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: And I I said that in my video the other day, uh joking about my messy bun.
- 38:38SPEAKER_01: Is if you look like the bomb.com every day and that's just you, do it.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: Like what whatever you is, just like you just said, like if you wear a ton of color and you like to curl your hair every day and that's the season of life you're in, awesome.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: That has never been me and it will never be me.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: And and I know that.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: And so I just kind of and my t-shirt is another thing, is like people think that I'm purposely casually like dressing or dressing down to become more authentic, and that kind of was hand in hand with the messy button thing.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: I'm like, no, that's just I don't have very many cute shirts, and I'm not gonna change into a cute shirt just to film a video if my t-shirt works fine.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, especially because like it's creating the conditions of like, oh, I think I need to wear a cute shirt in order to either get views or do no.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: It's different when you want to change into one versus that feeling of like, oh, I think I need to do this in order to get XYZ.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: So again, it just is who are you?
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: And and people can pick up on fake authenticity too.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: So I think it's why it worked for me, is it truly was for most people.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: Obviously, some people completely got me all wrong, but most people knew that I was just showing up as me.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: And that's why it worked.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: Um, but I don't think you can fake that.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: I do think there's something about the hair thing because Jesse Jean also said, I don't want to have to worry about my hair.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: So you always see my hair in a ponytail because I don't want to have to worry about my hair to film.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: So there is not in terms of that what makes you accessible, but there is a thing about don't worry about your hair.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: Like I think there's it is really nice.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: There's a common message about don't worry about your hair as a thing in terms of like your videos or your gaps.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: Like, put it in a ponytail, put it up.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: Like, don't worry about your hair.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: That that's the message.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: Don't worry about your hair.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, seriously.
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: Whatever works for you, go for it.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: So, my next question for you, because I know this is also a common thing that's going on in the internet, is that you know, you can only be successful if you're teaching other people how to make money.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: It's like you make money by teaching other people how to make money in this whole thing.
- 40:40SPEAKER_00: Or I'd love to know like your stance on that and how people feel around that.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: And also, you don't teach people how to make money, you just teach them how to edit their reels, which might help them make money and it helps you make money, but that's not inherently, you're not teaching people how to make money, kind of your whole stance around this whole thing that's going around the internet about that.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I get why it's a thing, and there's so many different perspectives, and and people are completely debunking that myth too.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Um can I share a handle?
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: You can share whatever you want.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, her handle is uh Pink Sparrow Official, and she has tons of case studies that she's diving into right now about people who are not teaching social media at all and doing extremely well.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: The difference is for those of us who are teaching something in relation to content creation, like, yes, I'm not teaching people how to make money.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: I'm teaching something about content creation, though, so which is why I got lumped into that.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: I understand that.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: We're the ones who are loud about it because we're on social media talking to other people who are either currently content creators or want to be content creators.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: And so naturally it's gonna be a lot of what people see.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: What people aren't seeing is the business owners who are selling courses like um, you know, tutorials on anything and everything.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know of so many people who have made tons of money in very successful businesses around digital products that have nothing to do with content creation.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: And so, and then you, you know, we can dive into the fact that if that's what you're spending your time on, commenting on and seeing on social media, the algorithm is just gonna feed you more of that.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: And so it's like if I don't know, if that's what you're seeing and that's what you're commenting on, then that's what you're gonna continue seeing.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: So I just I think it's just not as out in front of our face of these people who are doing really well.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Um, because perhaps there's not other two sharing their launch numbers or anything like that.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: Perhaps they're not doing those types of recaps, but they're still super successful.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: And I think it's also sometimes I think it's detrimental to people thinking, like, oh, unless I'm teaching people how to either create content or make money, that I don't have something that's sellable, that I don't have something I can turn into a business.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: But that's like not true.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: No, it's not true.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: I want to finish off with kind of how people might perceive you as an overnight success, but how you feel like you were being prepared for this the whole time.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: And one of my favorite quotes is that you don't see the, you can't connect the dolls looking forward, you can only see them connect like looking back.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: How do you feel like you were prepared versus what someone just sees on the outside as this like jump versus this preparation?
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if you so many people have said they've gone back and binged my page.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: And I think if you go back to a few months ago and watch everything from then to now, you would see it as an overnight success.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: But what people don't see or pay attention to is the fact that I have thousands of posts under my belt.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: And I have changed niches so many times.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: I've done digital products before.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: I uh I have pivoted so many times.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: Like I when I tell you I used to be embarrassed because I would I'd go all in on something and then I'd get burned out and just totally again.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: It was that white knuckling thing, trying to just do it on my own, what I felt like I was supposed to do and it was never right.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: And but at the same time, all of that has played a role in why I was able to do this successfully.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: Because if I had never created a digital product before, if I didn't have any experience selling on stand store or building a wait list or um, you know, sending marketing emails, none of this would have gone that way.
- 44:27SPEAKER_01: But I did have, I was collecting these experiences that at the time felt like a waste, but they all played a part in why this went the way it did.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: And I mean, there's even a whole time and on my page that I just deleted a whole chunk of time because it was so embarrassing to me.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: People will never see those posts because I I it was unaligned with who I wanted to be.
- 44:51SPEAKER_01: I went all in, got burned out.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: I was like, okay, that's embarrassing and and moved on.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: And so, and that's just part of it.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: But I learned from every single stage.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: When you were learning in those stages, did you see this preparation or did you see it?
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, no.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: I think it's difficult to see, like, oh, looking back, I'm so glad I learned all these skill sets and they prepared me for now.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: But when you're in it, it's like, well, this doesn't feel like a blessing.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: This doesn't feel like preparation.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: And maybe there's resentment or bitterness or sometimes even anger at God.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Like it can be.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: It was it was more so like embarrassment, like, oh, I'm just this serial entrepreneur who can't stick with one thing besides real estate.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, I was very, I was successful and very consistent in real estate for eight years.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: And but I, you know, when it came to social media and my side hustle of social media, it was just all over the place.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: So, no, at the time it was more just embarrassing.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: Like, what am I doing?
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: Like, why can't I figure this out?
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: Why is it working for them and not for me?
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: And I know people are looking at me thinking that same thing, but they don't know what their, you know, two years from now looks like or however long.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, I feel like this ties beautifully back to the beginning of this episode where we said, just follow the nudges.
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: Because you don't know that your that thing might be the next thing that you do.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: It comes down to faith.
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: It comes down to knowing that whatever you are going through now is playing a role in your future.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: And God w is able to and wants to do, wants to use everything for your good.
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: Like he has a beautiful plan for your life and he has a purpose for you, and he has created you for immeasurably more than you can ask or imagine.
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: And so it comes down to faith that that is true.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: And if it is true, then you know that no matter what you are going through or will go through or have gone through, it all plays a role in what he has for you.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: And so just to lean in and and follow those breadcrumbs and and learn to hear his voice along the way.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: This is such a beautiful conversation.
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: I'm so glad we got to do this.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: I was gonna ask you what's coming up in Jessica's world, but I know the launch thing is coming up, which I mean, I I think it might be bigger than like your editing non-techie edits like launch.
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: Like I because I feel like people are gonna want to know.
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: I feel like the curiosity of all of us being like, okay, how I actually think it has the potential to be bigger than your other launch.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna say that.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, I do too.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: I'm just kind of this one is the the editing mini course is small potatoes compared to putting together this one.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: I will say that.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: I have my work cut out for me because it it's a lot that went into it.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: And uh I have a lot to share.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: I am not, I just want to make this so clear.
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: I am not a launch coach.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: I've not had to teach people how to launch, at least yet, because I've only done it very well one time.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: But it was another breadcrumb.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: And I've had literally since like day three of my first launch, people were like, all right, your next course needs to be a course about how to launch.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: And I just kind of laughed it off, but then I kept getting those over and over and over.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: People were like, we want behind the scenes.
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: Please I want to pay you to teach me what you've done.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: And so I've said, All right, I'm not teaching you how to do it for your business.
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: That is not me.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: I will just show you what I did.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: So it's how I did it.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: It's behind the scenes.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: So you're not like, oh, this is how you create a thing in standing.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: Like, I did this, I did this, then I did this, then I think there's also a curiosity element of like, I don't think we want to know how you did, because maybe there is a something, there's an unlock like you had in Jesse Jean's cars of like, oh, yep, that's a thing.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: There absolutely I know that there will be for people, not because I'm teaching them like, all right, if this is your niche, here's how you need to go about it.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: But watching, like, I'm gonna walk through everything chronologically and I'm gonna break down how how I personally did it, what I would change, what I learned.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: And I think naturally, no matter who's watching, they'll have something to get out of it because they can take bits and pieces of what I've done and and add it to what they're doing, or just have more clarity on what the whole process as a whole looks like.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: Because watching from the outside, looking in, you didn't get all the pieces, like you got pieces here and there, but what I'm hoping to do is just like put it all together into one puzzle so you can just see the whole big picture and then take what you need and apply it to your own business.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: Do you think you'd ever do like a part two to the non-techie edits, like new edits that you're doing or anything like that?
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, I plan to add a couple lessons.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: Um, one that I'm excited about that people have asked for is they actually want to see me sitting down filming and what it looks like.
- 49:23SPEAKER_01: And like so from the outside looking in.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: So I plan to like grab my husband's phone or something and actually film me recording a video with all the mistakes, the pauses, the fixing the teleprompter, things like that.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: And so that's one lesson I plan to add, a couple other things, and then I'll relaunch it at some point.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: But right now the priority is the behind the scenes of my launch.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: Cause I feel like there's also gonna be like new little edits or new little non-tuckie edits that you could add in and like add like a volume to.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 49:51SPEAKER_00: Like the white border you do now.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: I want to know this like the white border you get on like when you post an old video.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: Include that, please.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: Like, how are people doing this?
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I can't figure this out on the edits app.
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: I just learned that one.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: Okay, good.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: So I I plan to learn it from Neo.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, awesome.
- 50:09SPEAKER_00: I want to thank you so much for coming on the show.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Not just coming on the show, but also you just leading yourself and the example you're setting for other women, the example you have with your faith.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: Like, I just I think you're such a special, phenomenal woman, and so excited for you and everything that you're creating.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: And thanks for coming on the show.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, thanks for having me.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: This is awesome.
