• 1:34
  And
• 1:35
  John
• 1:35
  Dudley.
• 1:36
  Good
• 1:36
  to
• 1:36
  see
• 1:36
  you,
• 1:36
  my
• 1:36
  friend.
• 1:37
  What's
• 1:37
  happening,
• 1:37
  brother?
• 1:38
  Man,
• 1:38
  it
• 1:38
  is
• 1:39
  our
• 1:39
  last
• 1:40
  show
• 1:40
  of
• 1:40
  the
• 1:40
  year
• 1:41
  and
• 1:41
  today,
• 1:42
  man,
• 1:42
  I
• 1:42
  wanted
• 1:42
  to
• 1:43
  highlight
• 1:43
  some
• 1:43
  of
• 1:43
  our
• 1:43
  best
• 1:44
  of
• 1:44
  episodes,
• 1:44
  the
• 1:45
  ones
• 1:45
  that
• 1:45
  really
• 1:45
  just
• 1:46
  knocked
• 1:46
  out
• 1:47
  of
• 1:47
  the
• 1:47
  park
• 1:47
  for
• 1:47
  all
• 1:47
  the
• 1:47
  new
• 1:48
  people
• 1:48
  out
• 1:48
  there
• 1:48
  that
• 1:48
  are
• 1:48
  just
• 1:49
  tuning
• 1:49
  in
• 1:49
  for
• 1:49
  the
• 1:49
  first
• 1:50
  time
• 1:50
  so
• 1:50
  we
• 1:50
  can
• 1:51
  share
• 1:51
  a
• 1:51
  little
• 1:51
  bit
• 1:51
  of
• 1:51
  the
• 1:51
  history
• 1:51
  of
• 1:52
  the
• 1:52
  show,
• 1:52
  man.
• 1:52
  Yeah.
• 1:53
  Cool.
• 1:53
  We
• 1:54
  have
• 1:54
  got
• 1:54
  some
• 1:54
  great
• 1:55
  stuff
• 1:55
  coming
• 1:55
  around
• 1:56
  and
• 1:56
  our
• 1:56
  first
• 1:56
  one
• 1:57
  here
• 1:57
  is
• 1:57
  something
• 1:57
  where
• 1:58
  you
• 1:58
  and
• 1:58
  I
• 1:58
  are
• 1:58
  sitting
• 1:59
  down
• 1:59
  talking
• 1:59
  about
• 1:59
  how
• 2:00
  to
• 2:00
  hire
• 2:00
  a
• 2:00
  contractor
• 2:01
  and
• 2:01
  you
• 2:01
  and
• 2:01
  I
• 2:02
  have
• 2:02
  something
• 2:02
  to
• 2:02
  say
• 2:03
  about
• 2:03
  that.
• 2:03
  Usually
• 2:04
  that
• 2:04
  always
• 2:04
  can
• 2:05
  be
• 2:05
  a
• 2:05
  very
• 2:05
  long
• 2:05
  conversation
• 2:06
  with
• 2:06
  the
• 2:06
  two
• 2:07
  of
• 2:07
  us.
• 2:07
  It's
• 2:08
  always
• 2:08
  fun,
• 2:09
  my
• 2:09
  friend.
• 2:09
  Well,
• 2:09
  let's
• 2:09
  jump
• 2:10
  out
• 2:10
  to
• 2:10
  it.
• 2:10
  This
• 2:11
  is
• 2:11
  from
• 2:11
  last
• 2:11
  September.
• 2:13
  And
• 2:13
  then
• 2:13
  later
• 2:13
  on
• 2:13
  the
• 2:14
  show
• 2:14
  we're
• 2:14
  going
• 2:14
  to
• 2:14
  be
• 2:14
  talking
• 2:15
  with
• 2:15
  Dallas
• 2:15
  Jones
• 2:16
  about
• 2:16
  asbestos.
• 2:17
  So
• 2:17
  let's
• 2:18
  get
• 2:18
  this
• 2:18
  party
• 2:18
  started.
• 2:19
  We
• 2:19
  have
• 2:20
  got
• 2:20
  back
• 2:20
  in
• 2:21
  the
• 2:21
  studio
• 2:21
  today,
• 2:22
  John
• 2:23
  Dudley
• 2:24
  co
• 2:24
  hosting
• 2:24
  a
• 2:24
  little
• 2:25
  bit
• 2:25
  here.
• 2:25
  Thanks
• 2:26
  for
• 2:26
  coming
• 2:26
  back
• 2:26
  on,
• 2:26
  brother.
• 2:27
  Yeah,
• 2:27
  man,
• 2:28
  thanks
• 2:28
  for
• 2:28
  having
• 2:28
  me.
• 2:29
  Always
• 2:30
  a
• 2:30
  good
• 2:30
  time,
• 2:30
  man.
• 2:31
  You
• 2:31
  and
• 2:31
  I
• 2:31
  go
• 2:31
  way
• 2:32
  back.
• 2:32
  And
• 2:32
  funny
• 2:33
  story,
• 2:33
  this
• 2:33
  last
• 2:34
  week
• 2:34
  I
• 2:34
  was
• 2:35
  on.
• 2:35
  I
• 2:36
  sent
• 2:36
  you
• 2:36
  the
• 2:36
  message,
• 2:36
  Johnny.
• 2:37
  And
• 2:37
  you
• 2:37
  probably
• 2:37
  know
• 2:38
  what
• 2:38
  I'm
• 2:38
  going
• 2:38
  to
• 2:38
  talk
• 2:38
  about
• 2:38
  here.
• 2:39
  I
• 2:40
  was
• 2:40
  back
• 2:40
  on
• 2:40
  Paramount
• 2:41
  Plus,
• 2:42
  Right.
• 2:43
  The
• 2:43
  streaming
• 2:44
  service.
• 2:44
  And
• 2:44
  I
• 2:44
  went,
• 2:45
  I
• 2:45
  wonder
• 2:45
  if
• 2:45
  that
• 2:46
  HDTV
• 2:47
  show
• 2:47
  I
• 2:47
  did
• 2:48
  20
• 2:48
  plus
• 2:48
  years
• 2:49
  ago
• 2:49
  is
• 2:50
  on
• 2:50
  there.
• 2:51
  And
• 2:51
  I'm
• 2:51
  like,
• 2:52
  I
• 2:52
  hope
• 2:52
  not,
• 2:52
  but
• 2:52
  it
• 2:53
  is.
• 2:53
  And
• 2:54
  yeah,
• 2:54
  it's
• 2:54
  on
• 2:55
  there.
• 2:55
  And,
• 2:56
  oh,
• 2:57
  me
• 2:57
  and
• 2:57
  Kevin,
• 2:58
  you
• 2:59
  were
• 2:59
  working
• 3:00
  and
• 3:00
  trying
• 3:01
  to
• 3:01
  get
• 3:01
  through
• 3:02
  an
• 3:02
  HGTV
• 3:03
  show
• 3:03
  called
• 3:03
  Designer
• 3:04
  Finals.
• 3:05
  Yeah,
• 3:06
  and
• 3:07
  we
• 3:07
  were
• 3:07
  in
• 3:08
  Denver.
• 3:08
  We
• 3:09
  had
• 3:09
  the
• 3:09
  people
• 3:09
  from
• 3:10
  MTV
• 3:10
  Real
• 3:11
  World
• 3:12
  that
• 3:12
  were
• 3:12
  the
• 3:12
  producers.
• 3:13
  So
• 3:14
  they
• 3:14
  were
• 3:14
  trying
• 3:14
  to
• 3:14
  like
• 3:15
  make
• 3:15
  up
• 3:15
  all
• 3:16
  this
• 3:16
  magic,
• 3:16
  right?
• 3:17
  Just
• 3:17
  not
• 3:17
  the
• 3:17
  hot
• 3:18
  chicks
• 3:18
  from
• 3:18
  Real
• 3:18
  World,
• 3:19
  just
• 3:19
  the
• 3:19
  producers
• 3:20
  for
• 3:20
  the
• 3:20
  producers.
• 3:21
  And
• 3:21
  so
• 3:21
  they
• 3:22
  had
• 3:22
  just
• 3:22
  left
• 3:23
  that
• 3:23
  whole
• 3:24
  thing
• 3:25
  and
• 3:26
  showed
• 3:26
  up
• 3:26
  there.
• 3:27
  There
• 3:27
  was
• 3:27
  like
• 3:27
  six
• 3:27
  of
• 3:28
  them
• 3:28
  because
• 3:28
  they
• 3:28
  were
• 3:28
  trying
• 3:28
  to.
• 3:28
  Okay,
• 3:29
  we're
• 3:29
  going
• 3:29
  to
• 3:29
  put
• 3:30
  all
• 3:30
  these
• 3:30
  people
• 3:30
  on
• 3:30
  doing
• 3:30
  this
• 3:31
  across
• 3:31
  the
• 3:31
  country.
• 3:32
  And
• 3:32
  so
• 3:32
  they
• 3:32
  were
• 3:32
  trying
• 3:32
  to
• 3:33
  do
• 3:33
  that.
• 3:33
  And
• 3:34
  the
• 3:34
  funny
• 3:34
  part
• 3:35
  was
• 3:35
  I've
• 3:35
  been
• 3:35
  following
• 3:36
  Pen
• 3:37
  Holderness
• 3:38
  on
• 3:38
  social
• 3:39
  media
• 3:39
  for
• 3:39
  five
• 3:39
  years,
• 3:40
  laughing
• 3:41
  at
• 3:41
  what
• 3:41
  him
• 3:41
  and
• 3:41
  his
• 3:42
  wife
• 3:42
  do.
• 3:42
  And
• 3:43
  I
• 3:44
  forgot
• 3:44
  that
• 3:44
  he
• 3:44
  was
• 3:44
  the
• 3:45
  host
• 3:45
  of
• 3:45
  the
• 3:46
  show
• 3:46
  and
• 3:47
  I'm
• 3:47
  like,
• 3:47
  ah,
• 3:48
  that's
• 3:48
  why
• 3:48
  I
• 3:48
  liked
• 3:48
  him.
• 3:49
  I
• 3:49
  worked
• 3:49
  with
• 3:49
  him.
• 3:50
  Yeah,
• 3:50
  shows
• 3:51
  you
• 3:51
  how
• 3:51
  long
• 3:51
  ago
• 3:51
  that
• 3:51
  was.
• 3:52
  And
• 3:52
  he
• 3:52
  looks
• 3:52
  like
• 3:52
  a
• 3:52
  little
• 3:52
  kid
• 3:53
  and
• 3:53
  so
• 3:53
  do
• 3:53
  I.
• 3:53
  But
• 3:54
  pretty
• 3:54
  funny
• 3:55
  going
• 3:55
  back
• 3:55
  on
• 3:55
  the
• 3:55
  way
• 3:56
  back
• 3:56
  machine
• 3:56
  there
• 3:57
  and
• 3:57
  seeing
• 3:57
  what
• 3:58
  I
• 3:58
  was
• 3:58
  doing
• 3:58
  20
• 3:58
  years
• 3:59
  ago.
• 3:59
  And
• 3:59
  as
• 4:00
  my
• 4:00
  friends
• 4:00
  and
• 4:00
  social
• 4:01
  media
• 4:01
  posted.
• 4:01
  Oh,
• 4:02
  it's
• 4:02
  baby
• 4:02
  Eric.
• 4:03
  Cute.
• 4:03
  Yeah,
• 4:04
  man,
• 4:04
  it
• 4:04
  was
• 4:04
  a
• 4:04
  trip.
• 4:05
  I
• 4:05
  see
• 4:05
  you
• 4:05
  every
• 4:05
  day
• 4:06
  pretty
• 4:06
  much.
• 4:06
  So
• 4:07
  yeah,
• 4:07
  that
• 4:07
  wasn't
• 4:07
  a
• 4:08
  shock.
• 4:08
  But
• 4:08
  seeing
• 4:08
  Kevin
• 4:09
  in
• 4:09
  that
• 4:09
  shot,
• 4:09
  I.
• 4:09
  Was
• 4:10
  like,
• 4:10
  oh,
• 4:10
  wow.
• 4:11
  That
• 4:11
  was
• 4:11
  a
• 4:11
  time.
• 4:12
  Yeah.
• 4:13
  They
• 4:13
  had
• 4:14
  tried
• 4:14
  to
• 4:14
  produce
• 4:15
  this
• 4:15
  show
• 4:15
  and
• 4:16
  my
• 4:16
  friend
• 4:16
  Brianne,
• 4:17
  who
• 4:17
  I'd
• 4:17
  worked
• 4:17
  with
• 4:17
  for
• 4:18
  years,
• 4:18
  she
• 4:18
  was
• 4:19
  the
• 4:19
  designer
• 4:19
  going
• 4:20
  through
• 4:20
  the
• 4:20
  program.
• 4:21
  And
• 4:21
  the
• 4:21
  crazy
• 4:22
  part
• 4:22
  was
• 4:23
  that
• 4:23
  when
• 4:23
  they
• 4:23
  went
• 4:23
  through
• 4:23
  that,
• 4:24
  they
• 4:25
  were
• 4:25
  trying
• 4:25
  to
• 4:25
  get
• 4:25
  me
• 4:25
  to
• 4:26
  make
• 4:26
  her
• 4:26
  cry
• 4:26
  because
• 4:26
  they
• 4:27
  wanted
• 4:27
  to
• 4:27
  make
• 4:28
  her
• 4:28
  the
• 4:29
  weak
• 4:29
  new
• 4:30
  designer.
• 4:30
  And
• 4:31
  I'm
• 4:31
  like,
• 4:31
  no,
• 4:31
  I'm
• 4:31
  not
• 4:31
  making
• 4:32
  my
• 4:32
  friend
• 4:32
  cry.
• 4:32
  Sorry.
• 4:33
  And
• 4:33
  if
• 4:33
  you
• 4:34
  want
• 4:34
  me
• 4:34
  to
• 4:34
  leave,
• 4:34
  I
• 4:34
  can
• 4:34
  go.
• 4:35
  But
• 4:35
  guess
• 4:35
  what?
• 4:35
  I'm
• 4:35
  not
• 4:35
  getting
• 4:36
  paid
• 4:36
  for
• 4:36
  this.
• 4:36
  So
• 4:36
  I
• 4:37
  production.
• 4:39
  Yeah,
• 4:39
  make
• 4:40
  somebody
• 4:40
  look
• 4:40
  bad,
• 4:40
  make
• 4:41
  somebody
• 4:41
  cry.
• 4:41
  We
• 4:41
  need
• 4:42
  the
• 4:42
  drama.
• 4:42
  Come
• 4:42
  on.
• 4:43
  No
• 4:43
  way,
• 4:44
  no
• 4:44
  way.
• 4:44
  So
• 4:45
  not
• 4:45
  doing
• 4:45
  it,
• 4:46
  not
• 4:46
  doing
• 4:46
  it.
• 4:47
  And
• 4:47
  yeah,
• 4:47
  it's
• 4:47
  one
• 4:47
  of
• 4:47
  those
• 4:47
  things
• 4:48
  that
• 4:48
  I
• 4:48
  stuck
• 4:49
  my
• 4:49
  foot
• 4:49
  in
• 4:49
  the
• 4:49
  sand.
• 4:50
  I
• 4:50
  went,
• 4:50
  no.
• 4:50
  And
• 4:51
  they
• 4:52
  set
• 4:52
  it
• 4:52
  up.
• 4:52
  They
• 4:52
  called
• 4:53
  the
• 4:53
  tile
• 4:53
  guy
• 4:53
  and
• 4:53
  made
• 4:54
  him
• 4:54
  show
• 4:54
  up
• 4:54
  a
• 4:54
  week
• 4:54
  a
• 4:55
  day
• 4:55
  late
• 4:55
  and
• 4:55
  you're
• 4:56
  supposed
• 4:56
  to
• 4:56
  be
• 4:56
  there
• 4:56
  on
• 4:56
  a
• 4:56
  one
• 4:57
  day
• 4:57
  and
• 4:57
  they
• 4:58
  held
• 4:58
  him
• 4:58
  off.
• 4:58
  So
• 4:59
  a
• 4:59
  lot
• 4:59
  of
• 4:59
  cool
• 4:59
  stuff
• 5:00
  going
• 5:00
  on
• 5:00
  there.
• 5:01
  So
• 5:01
  gross.
• 5:02
  It's
• 5:03
  just
• 5:03
  tv.
• 5:03
  It's
• 5:03
  what
• 5:04
  it
• 5:04
  is
• 5:04
  on
• 5:04
  that
• 5:04
  stuff.
• 5:05
  And
• 5:05
  that
• 5:05
  was
• 5:05
  a
• 5:05
  long
• 5:05
  time
• 5:05
  ago
• 5:06
  too.
• 5:06
  That's
• 5:06
  20
• 5:06
  plus
• 5:06
  years
• 5:07
  ago
• 5:07
  today.
• 5:07
  I
• 5:08
  wanted
• 5:08
  to
• 5:08
  talk
• 5:08
  about
• 5:09
  getting
• 5:09
  people
• 5:09
  into
• 5:10
  the
• 5:10
  trades.
• 5:10
  I
• 5:10
  think
• 5:11
  it's
• 5:11
  a
• 5:11
  great
• 5:11
  conversation
• 5:12
  because
• 5:12
  we've
• 5:12
  got
• 5:13
  so
• 5:13
  many
• 5:13
  issues
• 5:14
  out
• 5:14
  there
• 5:15
  with
• 5:15
  people
• 5:15
  that
• 5:16
  are
• 5:17
  really
• 5:17
  having
• 5:17
  some
• 5:18
  issues.
• 5:18
  You've
• 5:18
  got
• 5:19
  these
• 5:19
  kids
• 5:19
  going
• 5:19
  into
• 5:20
  college
• 5:20
  getting
• 5:20
  their
• 5:20
  humanities
• 5:21
  degrees
• 5:22
  and
• 5:22
  spending
• 5:22
  six
• 5:23
  figures
• 5:23
  and
• 5:23
  then
• 5:24
  I
• 5:24
  see
• 5:24
  them
• 5:24
  working
• 5:25
  Starbucks
• 5:25
  drive
• 5:26
  through
• 5:26
  and
• 5:27
  they're
• 5:27
  100
• 5:28
  grand
• 5:28
  in
• 5:28
  the
• 5:28
  hole
• 5:28
  because
• 5:29
  they
• 5:29
  paid
• 5:29
  for
• 5:29
  a
• 5:29
  college
• 5:30
  education
• 5:30
  that
• 5:30
  they
• 5:31
  can't
• 5:31
  use.
• 5:33
  And
• 5:33
  if
• 5:33
  they
• 5:33
  would
• 5:34
  have
• 5:34
  turned
• 5:34
  around
• 5:34
  and
• 5:35
  joined
• 5:36
  the
• 5:36
  electricians
• 5:36
  union
• 5:37
  and
• 5:38
  they'd
• 5:38
  already
• 5:38
  be
• 5:38
  a
• 5:39
  licensed
• 5:40
  electrician
• 5:40
  and
• 5:40
  making
• 5:41
  six
• 5:41
  figures
• 5:41
  and
• 5:42
  not
• 5:42
  have
• 5:42
  the
• 5:42
  college
• 5:43
  debt.
• 5:43
  It's
• 5:44
  crazy.
• 5:44
  It's
• 5:44
  crazy.
• 5:45
  And
• 5:45
  of
• 5:45
  course,
• 5:46
  all
• 5:46
  of
• 5:46
  our
• 5:47
  school
• 5:47
  districts,
• 5:47
  there's
• 5:48
  some
• 5:48
  great
• 5:48
  ones
• 5:48
  out
• 5:49
  there,
• 5:49
  but
• 5:49
  all
• 5:49
  of
• 5:49
  our
• 5:49
  school
• 5:50
  districts
• 5:50
  have
• 5:50
  really
• 5:51
  done
• 5:52
  such
• 5:52
  a
• 5:52
  poor
• 5:53
  job
• 5:53
  of
• 5:53
  getting
• 5:53
  kids
• 5:54
  ready
• 5:54
  to
• 5:54
  not
• 5:55
  go
• 5:55
  to
• 5:55
  college,
• 5:56
  to
• 5:56
  go
• 5:56
  into
• 5:56
  the
• 5:56
  trades.
• 5:57
  They've
• 5:57
  all
• 5:57
  been
• 5:57
  the
• 5:57
  big
• 5:58
  business
• 5:58
  of
• 5:58
  the
• 5:58
  college
• 5:58
  education.
• 5:59
  They've
• 5:59
  been
• 6:00
  really
• 6:00
  pushing
• 6:00
  them
• 6:00
  into
• 6:00
  that.
• 6:00
  But
• 6:01
  they
• 6:01
  shut
• 6:01
  down
• 6:01
  all
• 6:02
  the
• 6:02
  wood
• 6:02
  shops,
• 6:02
  the
• 6:03
  metal
• 6:03
  shops,
• 6:03
  the
• 6:03
  welding.
• 6:04
  Are
• 6:05
  there
• 6:05
  plenty
• 6:05
  of
• 6:06
  school
• 6:06
  districts
• 6:06
  out
• 6:06
  there
• 6:07
  that
• 6:07
  are
• 6:07
  on
• 6:07
  the
• 6:07
  right
• 6:07
  path?
• 6:08
  Yeah,
• 6:09
  we
• 6:09
  had
• 6:09
  Chris
• 6:09
  Higginbotham
• 6:10
  on
• 6:10
  the
• 6:10
  show,
• 6:11
  oh,
• 6:11
  a
• 6:11
  month
• 6:12
  and
• 6:12
  a
• 6:12
  half
• 6:12
  ago,
• 6:12
  and
• 6:13
  they've
• 6:13
  been.
• 6:13
  For
• 6:14
  50
• 6:14
  years,
• 6:14
  they've
• 6:15
  been
• 6:15
  teaching
• 6:15
  kids
• 6:16
  how
• 6:16
  to
• 6:16
  build
• 6:16
  homes.
• 6:17
  And
• 6:17
  every
• 6:18
  year
• 6:18
  they
• 6:18
  build
• 6:18
  one
• 6:19
  home,
• 6:19
  and
• 6:19
  that's
• 6:19
  over
• 6:19
  here
• 6:20
  in
• 6:20
  Forest
• 6:21
  Grove,
• 6:21
  Oregon.
• 6:22
  But
• 6:22
  at
• 6:23
  the
• 6:23
  same
• 6:23
  time,
• 6:23
  you
• 6:24
  look
• 6:24
  in
• 6:24
  at
• 6:24
  Portland
• 6:25
  public
• 6:25
  schools
• 6:26
  in
• 6:26
  my
• 6:26
  area
• 6:26
  here,
• 6:27
  and
• 6:27
  guess
• 6:27
  what?
• 6:27
  They've
• 6:28
  pretty
• 6:28
  much
• 6:28
  taken
• 6:28
  all
• 6:29
  the
• 6:29
  wood
• 6:29
  shop
• 6:29
  classes
• 6:30
  out.
• 6:30
  And
• 6:31
  so
• 6:31
  all
• 6:32
  those
• 6:32
  things
• 6:32
  are
• 6:32
  gone.
• 6:33
  It's
• 6:33
  just
• 6:34
  insane
• 6:35
  that.
• 6:35
  To
• 6:36
  fault
• 6:37
  that
• 6:37
  piece
• 6:37
  of
• 6:37
  education.
• 6:38
  And
• 6:38
  I'll
• 6:39
  bring
• 6:39
  up
• 6:39
  my
• 6:39
  little
• 6:39
  brother,
• 6:40
  who's
• 6:40
  a
• 6:40
  great
• 6:40
  example.
• 6:41
  The
• 6:41
  kid's
• 6:42
  a
• 6:42
  brilliant
• 6:42
  genius
• 6:43
  software
• 6:44
  engineer,
• 6:44
  programmer.
• 6:46
  Kid
• 6:46
  could
• 6:46
  put
• 6:46
  rockets
• 6:47
  on
• 6:47
  the
• 6:47
  moon.
• 6:48
  But
• 6:48
  ask
• 6:48
  him
• 6:49
  to
• 6:49
  get
• 6:49
  you
• 6:49
  a
• 6:49
  Phillips
• 6:49
  screwdriver
• 6:50
  and
• 6:50
  he
• 6:50
  doesn't
• 6:50
  know
• 6:51
  which
• 6:51
  one
• 6:51
  that
• 6:51
  is.
• 6:52
  Ask
• 6:52
  him
• 6:52
  to
• 6:53
  change
• 6:53
  the
• 6:53
  light
• 6:53
  bulb.
• 6:53
  He's
• 6:54
  like,
• 6:54
  how
• 6:54
  do
• 6:54
  you
• 6:54
  do
• 6:54
  that?
• 6:54
  Like,
• 6:55
  seriously.
• 6:55
  Now
• 6:56
  he's
• 6:56
  grown
• 6:56
  up,
• 6:56
  he's
• 6:57
  40
• 6:57
  now,
• 6:57
  but
• 6:58
  when
• 6:58
  he
• 6:58
  was
• 6:59
  15,
• 7:00
  16,
• 7:01
  he
• 7:01
  didn't
• 7:02
  know
• 7:02
  even
• 7:03
  up
• 7:03
  till
• 7:03
  into
• 7:03
  his
• 7:04
  30s,
• 7:04
  he'd
• 7:04
  be
• 7:04
  like,
• 7:05
  I
• 7:05
  don't
• 7:05
  know
• 7:05
  how
• 7:05
  to
• 7:05
  do
• 7:06
  that.
• 7:06
  There's
• 7:06
  so
• 7:07
  many
• 7:07
  life
• 7:07
  skills
• 7:07
  you
• 7:08
  learn
• 7:08
  within
• 7:08
  the
• 7:08
  trades
• 7:09
  and
• 7:09
  also
• 7:09
  just
• 7:10
  being
• 7:10
  around,
• 7:10
  especially
• 7:11
  when
• 7:11
  you're
• 7:11
  young,
• 7:11
  being
• 7:11
  around
• 7:12
  grown
• 7:12
  men,
• 7:12
  that
• 7:13
  you
• 7:13
  can
• 7:13
  find
• 7:13
  a
• 7:13
  lot
• 7:13
  of
• 7:13
  good
• 7:14
  examples
• 7:14
  of
• 7:14
  integrity
• 7:15
  and
• 7:15
  pride
• 7:16
  in
• 7:16
  your
• 7:16
  work
• 7:17
  and
• 7:18
  just
• 7:18
  some
• 7:18
  foundational
• 7:19
  things
• 7:19
  that
• 7:20
  I
• 7:20
  think
• 7:20
  we
• 7:20
  need
• 7:20
  as
• 7:20
  human
• 7:21
  beings.
• 7:21
  Let's
• 7:21
  get
• 7:21
  back
• 7:22
  to
• 7:22
  building
• 7:22
  fires
• 7:22
  almost.
• 7:23
  It
• 7:23
  doesn't.
• 7:23
  You
• 7:24
  don't
• 7:24
  have
• 7:24
  to
• 7:24
  stick
• 7:24
  there,
• 7:24
  but
• 7:25
  man.
• 7:25
  Yeah,
• 7:26
  just
• 7:26
  the
• 7:27
  basics.
• 7:27
  For
• 7:28
  example,
• 7:28
  here
• 7:28
  in
• 7:28
  Columbia,
• 7:29
  they
• 7:29
  require
• 7:29
  you
• 7:29
  go
• 7:30
  to
• 7:30
  two
• 7:30
  years
• 7:30
  in
• 7:31
  the
• 7:31
  military
• 7:31
  at
• 7:31
  least.
• 7:32
  Okay,
• 7:32
  cool.
• 7:33
  Send
• 7:33
  them
• 7:33
  to
• 7:33
  two
• 7:33
  years
• 7:34
  of
• 7:34
  trade
• 7:34
  school
• 7:34
  or
• 7:34
  give
• 7:35
  them
• 7:35
  a
• 7:35
  choice
• 7:35
  or
• 7:35
  something.
• 7:36
  Go
• 7:36
  to
• 7:36
  a
• 7:36
  votech
• 7:37
  and
• 7:37
  learn
• 7:37
  how
• 7:37
  to
• 7:37
  roof
• 7:37
  or
• 7:38
  learn
• 7:38
  how
• 7:39
  to
• 7:39
  carpenter
• 7:39
  or
• 7:40
  something,
• 7:40
  man.
• 7:41
  It's
• 7:41
  so
• 7:41
  invaluable.
• 7:42
  And
• 7:43
  the
• 7:43
  sense
• 7:44
  of,
• 7:45
  of
• 7:45
  pride
• 7:46
  is
• 7:46
  the
• 7:46
  reward.
• 7:47
  Like
• 7:47
  when
• 7:47
  you
• 7:48
  complete
• 7:48
  something,
• 7:48
  you
• 7:49
  build
• 7:49
  something
• 7:49
  with
• 7:49
  your
• 7:49
  own
• 7:50
  two
• 7:50
  hands.
• 7:50
  Like
• 7:51
  it
• 7:51
  changes
• 7:51
  you
• 7:51
  as
• 7:52
  a
• 7:52
  person
• 7:52
  instead
• 7:53
  of
• 7:53
  just
• 7:53
  pushing
• 7:54
  buttons
• 7:54
  and
• 7:54
  letting
• 7:55
  the
• 7:55
  computer
• 7:55
  do
• 7:55
  it
• 7:55
  for
• 7:56
  you.
• 7:56
  Or.
• 7:57
  No,
• 7:57
  no,
• 7:57
  you
• 7:57
  got
• 7:58
  my
• 7:58
  point.
• 7:58
  Yeah,
• 7:58
  blah,
• 7:59
  blah.
• 7:59
  Yeah,
• 7:59
  no
• 7:59
  Question,
• 8:00
  man.
• 8:00
  And
• 8:00
  that's
• 8:00
  the
• 8:00
  awesome
• 8:01
  thing
• 8:01
  is
• 8:01
  you
• 8:01
  look
• 8:02
  at
• 8:02
  it
• 8:02
  and
• 8:02
  there's
• 8:02
  so
• 8:03
  many
• 8:03
  places
• 8:03
  that
• 8:03
  are
• 8:03
  doing
• 8:04
  great.
• 8:04
  There's
• 8:04
  school
• 8:04
  districts
• 8:05
  around
• 8:05
  here,
• 8:06
  you
• 8:06
  know,
• 8:06
  that,
• 8:07
  that
• 8:07
  really
• 8:07
  do
• 8:07
  a
• 8:07
  great
• 8:08
  job.
• 8:08
  But
• 8:08
  then
• 8:08
  I
• 8:09
  look
• 8:09
  at
• 8:09
  these
• 8:09
  other
• 8:09
  big
• 8:09
  ones
• 8:10
  and
• 8:11
  you
• 8:11
  know,
• 8:11
  down
• 8:11
  in
• 8:12
  south
• 8:12
  of
• 8:12
  here
• 8:12
  in
• 8:13
  a
• 8:13
  little
• 8:13
  town
• 8:14
  called
• 8:14
  Sweet
• 8:14
  Home,
• 8:15
  these
• 8:16
  guys
• 8:16
  have
• 8:16
  a
• 8:17
  self
• 8:17
  sustaining
• 8:18
  shop
• 8:18
  program.
• 8:19
  So
• 8:20
  they
• 8:20
  have
• 8:20
  kids
• 8:21
  that
• 8:21
  are
• 8:21
  learning
• 8:21
  how
• 8:21
  to
• 8:21
  be
• 8:22
  loggers.
• 8:22
  They
• 8:22
  have
• 8:23
  logging
• 8:24
  companies
• 8:24
  donating
• 8:26
  wood
• 8:26
  trees
• 8:27
  to
• 8:27
  the
• 8:27
  wood
• 8:28
  shop.
• 8:28
  They
• 8:29
  have
• 8:29
  their
• 8:30
  own
• 8:30
  mill,
• 8:30
  so
• 8:30
  they
• 8:31
  cut
• 8:31
  their
• 8:31
  own
• 8:31
  wood.
• 8:32
  So
• 8:32
  there's
• 8:33
  no
• 8:33
  cost
• 8:34
  to
• 8:34
  entry
• 8:35
  for
• 8:35
  the
• 8:35
  kids
• 8:36
  getting
• 8:36
  into
• 8:36
  the
• 8:36
  wood
• 8:37
  shop
• 8:37
  program
• 8:38
  to
• 8:38
  learn
• 8:38
  how
• 8:38
  to
• 8:38
  build
• 8:39
  something.
• 8:40
  So
• 8:40
  cool.
• 8:41
  It's
• 8:41
  so
• 8:41
  cool.
• 8:42
  I
• 8:42
  was
• 8:42
  over
• 8:42
  there
• 8:42
  one
• 8:43
  time
• 8:43
  with
• 8:43
  Blake
• 8:44
  Manley
• 8:44
  and
• 8:44
  he
• 8:44
  was
• 8:45
  the
• 8:45
  guy
• 8:45
  that
• 8:45
  was
• 8:45
  running
• 8:45
  this.
• 8:46
  It
• 8:46
  was
• 8:46
  so
• 8:46
  cool
• 8:47
  to
• 8:47
  watch
• 8:47
  this
• 8:47
  happen.
• 8:47
  I'm
• 8:48
  watching
• 8:48
  these
• 8:48
  kids
• 8:48
  walking
• 8:49
  across.
• 8:49
  What
• 8:49
  are
• 8:49
  they
• 8:49
  doing?
• 8:50
  They're
• 8:50
  teaching
• 8:50
  them
• 8:50
  how
• 8:51
  to
• 8:51
  climb
• 8:51
  trees
• 8:51
  and
• 8:52
  power
• 8:52
  poles.
• 8:53
  Nice.
• 8:54
  And
• 8:54
  they've
• 8:54
  got
• 8:54
  their
• 8:55
  rigs
• 8:55
  and
• 8:55
  they're
• 8:55
  running
• 8:55
  across
• 8:56
  and
• 8:56
  they're
• 8:56
  next
• 8:56
  to
• 8:57
  the
• 8:57
  football
• 8:57
  stadium.
• 8:58
  I'm
• 8:58
  like,
• 8:58
  okay,
• 8:59
  super
• 9:00
  cool.
• 9:00
  I
• 9:00
  love
• 9:01
  this.
• 9:01
  And
• 9:02
  we
• 9:02
  just
• 9:02
  need
• 9:02
  to
• 9:02
  be
• 9:03
  doing
• 9:03
  this
• 9:03
  in
• 9:03
  every
• 9:04
  single
• 9:04
  school
• 9:04
  district
• 9:05
  instead
• 9:05
  of
• 9:05
  worried
• 9:06
  about
• 9:06
  getting
• 9:06
  kids
• 9:06
  into
• 9:07
  these
• 9:07
  degrees
• 9:07
  that
• 9:08
  unfortunately
• 9:10
  they're
• 9:10
  just
• 9:10
  going
• 9:10
  to
• 9:10
  be
• 9:10
  working
• 9:11
  at
• 9:11
  Chipotle
• 9:11
  or
• 9:12
  Starbucks
• 9:12
  with
• 9:12
  them.
• 9:13
  Yeah.
• 9:13
  My
• 9:14
  little
• 9:14
  brother
• 9:14
  went
• 9:14
  to
• 9:15
  four
• 9:15
  years
• 9:15
  of
• 9:15
  college
• 9:15
  through
• 9:16
  anthropology.
• 9:17
  Told
• 9:17
  me
• 9:17
  the
• 9:17
  last
• 9:18
  time
• 9:18
  he
• 9:18
  dug
• 9:18
  up
• 9:18
  a
• 9:19
  bone.
• 9:19
  Yeah,
• 9:20
  Maybe
• 9:20
  chasing
• 9:21
  the
• 9:21
  dog
• 9:21
  out
• 9:21
  in
• 9:21
  the
• 9:21
  yard,
• 9:22
  but
• 9:22
  that's
• 9:22
  about
• 9:22
  it,
• 9:23
  right?
• 9:23
  Yeah.
• 9:24
  Now,
• 9:25
  getting
• 9:25
  into
• 9:25
  the
• 9:26
  trades
• 9:26
  saved
• 9:26
  my
• 9:27
  life,
• 9:27
  man.
• 9:27
  Like,
• 9:28
  I
• 9:28
  was
• 9:28
  a
• 9:28
  disaster
• 9:29
  as
• 9:29
  a
• 9:29
  teenager.
• 9:30
  Absolutely.
• 9:31
  I
• 9:31
  tell
• 9:31
  you
• 9:31
  what,
• 9:31
  some
• 9:32
  of
• 9:32
  the,
• 9:32
  before
• 9:32
  we
• 9:32
  go
• 9:32
  out
• 9:33
  to
• 9:33
  break
• 9:33
  here,
• 9:33
  some
• 9:33
  of
• 9:34
  the
• 9:34
  women
• 9:34
  out
• 9:34
  there
• 9:34
  that
• 9:34
  are
• 9:35
  in
• 9:35
  the
• 9:35
  trades,
• 9:35
  I
• 9:35
  tell
• 9:36
  you
• 9:36
  what,
• 9:36
  I
• 9:37
  have
• 9:37
  friends,
• 9:37
  friends
• 9:37
  that
• 9:37
  are
• 9:38
  female
• 9:38
  woodworkers
• 9:39
  that
• 9:39
  run
• 9:40
  circles
• 9:41
  around
• 9:41
  me
• 9:41
  and
• 9:41
  their
• 9:42
  skill.
• 9:42
  Yeah.
• 9:43
  It's
• 9:44
  just
• 9:44
  insane
• 9:45
  out
• 9:45
  there.
• 9:45
  And
• 9:45
  the
• 9:45
  diversity
• 9:46
  now
• 9:46
  is
• 9:46
  so
• 9:47
  cool
• 9:47
  to
• 9:47
  watch.
• 9:48
  Yeah,
• 9:48
  it's
• 9:49
  nice.
• 9:49
  It's
• 9:50
  super
• 9:50
  cool.
• 9:50
  Hey,
• 9:51
  when
• 9:51
  we
• 9:51
  come
• 9:51
  back,
• 9:51
  we're
• 9:51
  going
• 9:51
  to
• 9:52
  talk
• 9:52
  more
• 9:52
  about
• 9:52
  getting
• 9:52
  kids
• 9:53
  in
• 9:53
  the
• 9:53
  trades
• 9:53
  and
• 9:54
  what
• 9:54
  we
• 9:54
  can
• 9:54
  do
• 9:55
  to
• 9:55
  make
• 9:55
  that
• 9:55
  change.
• 9:55
  And
• 9:56
  that
• 9:56
  way
• 9:56
  things
• 9:56
  are
• 9:57
  more
• 9:57
  affordable
• 9:57
  for
• 9:57
  you
• 9:58
  out
• 9:58
  there.
• 9:58
  Because
• 9:59
  I
• 9:59
  tell
• 9:59
  you
• 9:59
  what,
• 9:59
  right
• 10:00
  now
• 10:00
  those
• 10:00
  wages
• 10:00
  are
• 10:01
  going
• 10:01
  up
• 10:01
  and
• 10:01
  up
• 10:02
  and
• 10:02
  that
• 10:02
  means
• 10:02
  every
• 10:02
  time
• 10:03
  that
• 10:03
  you
• 10:03
  hire
• 10:03
  them
• 10:03
  for
• 10:03
  your
• 10:04

• 10:05
  that's
• 10:05
  getting
• 10:05
  more
• 10:05
  expensive.
• 10:06
  We'll
• 10:06
  do
• 10:06
  that
• 10:06
  just
• 10:06
  as
• 10:07
  soon
• 10:07
  as
• 10:07
  around
• 10:08
  the

• 10:08
  returns.
• 10:09
  Don't

• 12:25
  So
• 12:26
  we

  decided

  to
• 12:26
  give
• 12:27
  him

  the

• 12:37
  I'm
• 12:37
  Eric
• 12:37
  G.
• 12:38
  And
• 12:39
  then
• 12:39
  here
• 12:39
  we
• 12:39
  got
• 12:40
  Johnny
• 12:40
  D.
• 12:42
  I
• 12:43
  need
• 12:43
  a
• 12:43
  little
• 12:43
  bell
• 12:43
  to
• 12:43
  ring
• 12:44
  or
• 12:44
  something.
• 12:44
  Absolutely.
• 12:45
  I
• 12:45
  want
• 12:45
  a
• 12:45
  kazoo.
• 12:46
  Okay,
• 12:47
  we
• 12:47
  got
• 12:47
  sound
• 12:47
  effects.
• 12:48
  We'll
• 12:48
  see
• 12:48
  what
• 12:48
  we
• 12:48
  can
• 12:48
  do
• 12:48
  for
• 12:49
  you
• 12:49
  here.
• 12:49
  And
• 12:49
  Johnny
• 12:50
  and
• 12:50
  I,
• 12:50
  we
• 12:50
  go
• 12:51
  back
• 12:51
  20
• 12:51
  something
• 12:52
  years.
• 12:52
  We
• 12:53
  played
• 12:53
  in
• 12:53
  a
• 12:53
  band
• 12:53
  together.
• 12:54
  We've.
• 12:55
  I
• 12:55
  was
• 12:55
  his
• 12:55

• 12:56
  a
• 12:56

• 12:57
  he
• 12:57
  was

• 12:58
  So
• 12:58
  we've
• 12:59
  been
• 12:59
  through
• 12:59
  the
• 12:59

• 12:59
  on
• 12:59
  this
• 13:00
  stuff.
• 13:00
  Yeah,
• 13:01
  man.
• 13:01
  And
• 13:01
  what
• 13:01
  got
• 13:02
  you
• 13:02
  sucked
• 13:02
  into
• 13:02
  the
• 13:02
  trays
• 13:03
  in
• 13:03
  the
• 13:03
  first
• 13:03
  place?
• 13:04
  You
• 13:04
  know,
• 13:05
  it's
• 13:05
  funny.
• 13:05
  So
• 13:06
  I
• 13:06
  grew
• 13:06
  up
• 13:06
  working
• 13:07
  with
• 13:07
  my
• 13:07
  dad
• 13:07
  on
• 13:07
  stuff.
• 13:08
  I
• 13:08
  watched
• 13:09
  this
• 13:09
  old
• 13:09
  house
• 13:10
  as
• 13:10
  a
• 13:10
  kid,
• 13:10
  first
• 13:11
  season,
• 13:11
  probably
• 13:11
  eight.
• 13:12
  My
• 13:13
  dad
• 13:13
  was
• 13:13
  cool.
• 13:14
  He
• 13:14
  got
• 13:14
  a
• 13:14
  hold
• 13:14
  of
• 13:15
  the
• 13:15
  TV
• 13:15
  station
• 13:16
  there
• 13:16
  in
• 13:16
  Boston
• 13:17
  and
• 13:17
  had
• 13:17
  out
• 13:17
  the
• 13:18
  plan
• 13:18
  shipped
• 13:18
  out
• 13:19
  so
• 13:19
  I
• 13:19
  could
• 13:19
  follow
• 13:19
  him
• 13:20
  on
• 13:20
  the.
• 13:20
  Sitting
• 13:21
  on
• 13:21
  the
• 13:21
  floor
• 13:21
  in
• 13:21
  front
• 13:21
  of
• 13:21
  the
• 13:22
  tv,
• 13:23
  front
• 13:23
  of
• 13:23
  that
• 13:23
  big
• 13:23
  wood
• 13:24
  console
• 13:24
  tv
• 13:24
  watching
• 13:25
  stuff.
• 13:25
  And
• 13:26
  I
• 13:26
  got
• 13:27
  away
• 13:27
  through
• 13:27
  that
• 13:27
  and
• 13:28
  we
• 13:29
  had
• 13:29
  a
• 13:29
  great
• 13:29
  time
• 13:29
  working
• 13:29
  on
• 13:30
  projects.
• 13:30
  You
• 13:31
  know,
• 13:31
  we
• 13:31
  did
• 13:31
  a
• 13:31
  lot
• 13:31
  of
• 13:32
  stuff.
• 13:33
  So
• 13:33
  what
• 13:33
  we
• 13:33
  did
• 13:34
  is
• 13:35
  we
• 13:35
  did
• 13:35
  a
• 13:35
  lot
• 13:35
  of
• 13:36
  remodeling,
• 13:36
  worked
• 13:36
  on
• 13:36
  cars.
• 13:37
  My
• 13:37
  dad
• 13:37
  and
• 13:37
  I
• 13:38
  were
• 13:38
  just
• 13:38
  super
• 13:38
  cool
• 13:38
  that
• 13:39
  way.
• 13:39
  But
• 13:40
  my
• 13:40
  jam
• 13:41
  was
• 13:41
  playing
• 13:42
  music
• 13:42
  or
• 13:42
  working
• 13:43
  on
• 13:43
  radio.
• 13:43
  And
• 13:43
  so
• 13:44
  I
• 13:44
  took
• 13:44
  radio
• 13:45
  TV
• 13:45
  production
• 13:46
  and
• 13:47
  didn't
• 13:47
  get
• 13:47
  back
• 13:48
  into
• 13:48
  the
• 13:48
  trades
• 13:49
  until
• 13:50
  after
• 13:50
  taking
• 13:50
  some
• 13:50
  community
• 13:51
  college.
• 13:52
  And
• 13:53
  I
• 13:53
  actually
• 13:53
  busted
• 13:54
  my
• 13:54
  knee
• 13:54
  up
• 13:55
  and
• 13:55
  they
• 13:55
  went,
• 13:55
  hey,
• 13:56
  you
• 13:56
  want
• 13:56
  to
• 13:56
  be
• 13:56
  a
• 13:56
  kitchen
• 13:57
  designer
• 13:57
  over
• 13:57
  there
• 13:57
  in
• 13:57
  the
• 13:58
  kitchen
• 13:58
  design
• 13:58
  department
• 13:58
  since
• 13:59
  you're
• 13:59
  in
• 13:59
  a
• 13:59
  wheelchair
• 14:00
  and
• 14:00
  you're
• 14:00
  going
• 14:00
  to
• 14:00
  be
• 14:00
  in
• 14:00
  that
• 14:00
  for
• 14:01
  a
• 14:01
  bit
• 14:01
  with
• 14:01
  your
• 14:02
  ACL
• 14:02
  surgery.
• 14:03
  And
• 14:03
  I'm
• 14:03
  like,
• 14:04
  sure.
• 14:04
  I
• 14:04
  took
• 14:04
  architectural
• 14:05
  classes
• 14:05
  in
• 14:06
  college
• 14:06
  and
• 14:06
  high
• 14:07
  school.
• 14:07
  It
• 14:07
  sounds
• 14:07
  fun.
• 14:09
  So
• 14:09
  sure
• 14:10
  enough,
• 14:10
  started
• 14:10
  doing
• 14:10
  that.
• 14:11
  And
• 14:11
  I
• 14:11
  made
• 14:11
  a
• 14:12
  killing
• 14:12
  in
• 14:12
  the
• 14:12
  early
• 14:13
  90s
• 14:13
  working
• 14:14
  for
• 14:14
  this
• 14:14
  chain
• 14:15
  called
• 14:15
  Eagle
• 14:15
  Hardware
• 14:16
  and
• 14:16
  Garden.
• 14:16
  I
• 14:16
  was
• 14:17
  making
• 14:17
  in
• 14:18
  the
• 14:18
  90s
• 14:18
  with
• 14:19
  commissions.
• 14:19
  I
• 14:19
  was
• 14:20
  making
• 14:20
  70,
• 14:21
  80,000
• 14:21
  bucks
• 14:22
  a
• 14:22
  year
• 14:23
  in
• 14:23
  the
• 14:23
  Tri
• 14:23
  Cities
• 14:24
  in
• 14:24
  eastern
• 14:24
  Washington.
• 14:26
  Lowe's
• 14:26
  ended
• 14:27
  up
• 14:27
  buying
• 14:27
  them
• 14:27
  out,
• 14:27
  but
• 14:28
  you
• 14:28
  made
• 14:28
  commission.
• 14:29
  And
• 14:29
  so
• 14:29
  I
• 14:29
  was
• 14:29
  out
• 14:29
  there
• 14:30
  selling
• 14:31
  cabinet
• 14:31
  packages
• 14:32
  to,
• 14:32
  like,
• 14:32
  schools
• 14:33
  that
• 14:33
  were
• 14:33
  getting
• 14:34
  remodeled
• 14:34
  and
• 14:35
  was
• 14:35
  cranking
• 14:36
  out
• 14:36
  stuff,
• 14:36
  made
• 14:37
  a
• 14:37
  ton
• 14:37
  of
• 14:37
  money.
• 14:38
  And
• 14:39
  that's
• 14:39
  the
• 14:39
  road
• 14:39
  that
• 14:40
  I
• 14:40
  went
• 14:40
  down.
• 14:41
  And
• 14:42
  it
• 14:42
  worked
• 14:43
  out
• 14:43
  really
• 14:43
  well.
• 14:44
  And
• 14:45
  I
• 14:45
  would
• 14:45
  have
• 14:45
  been
• 14:45
  just.
• 14:46
  I
• 14:46
  don't
• 14:46
  know
• 14:46
  what
• 14:47
  I
• 14:47
  would
• 14:47
  have,
• 14:47
  what
• 14:47
  kind
• 14:47
  of
• 14:47
  trouble
• 14:48
  I
• 14:48
  would
• 14:48
  have
• 14:48
  gotten
• 14:48
  into
• 14:48
  if
• 14:49
  I
• 14:49
  hadn't
• 14:49
  learned
• 14:50
  all
• 14:50
  that
• 14:50
  stuff.
• 14:50
  I
• 14:51
  took
• 14:51
  welding,
• 14:51
  I
• 14:52
  took
• 14:52
  all
• 14:52
  the
• 14:52
  different
• 14:52
  trade
• 14:53
  stuff.
• 14:53
  I
• 14:54
  technically
• 14:54
  have
• 14:54
  my
• 14:55
  degree
• 14:55
  in
• 14:55
  autobody,
• 14:56
  so
• 14:56
  I
• 14:56
  could
• 14:56
  learn
• 14:56
  how
• 14:56
  to
• 14:56
  work
• 14:57
  on
• 14:57
  hot
• 14:57
  rods,
• 14:57
  but
• 14:58
  that
• 14:59
  was
• 14:59
  not
• 14:59
  what
• 14:59
  I
• 14:59
  was
• 14:59
  trying
• 14:59
  to
• 15:00
  do.
• 15:00
  I
• 15:00
  just
• 15:00
  wanted
• 15:00
  to
• 15:01
  do
• 15:01
  radio.
• 15:01
  And
• 15:01
  then
• 15:02
  I
• 15:02
  figured
• 15:02
  out
• 15:02
  in
• 15:03
  1989
• 15:05
  that
• 15:05
  I
• 15:05
  would
• 15:06
  starve
• 15:06
  to
• 15:06
  death.
• 15:06
  I
• 15:07
  could
• 15:07
  make
• 15:07
  a
• 15:07
  dollar
• 15:07
  more
• 15:07
  at
• 15:08
  McDonald's
• 15:08
  cooking
• 15:09
  fries
• 15:09
  than
• 15:09
  I
• 15:09
  could
• 15:10
  working
• 15:10
  on
• 15:10
  radio
• 15:11
  in
• 15:11
  eastern
• 15:11
  Washington.
• 15:11
  So
• 15:12
  I
• 15:12
  was
• 15:12
  like,
• 15:12
  okay,
• 15:12
  this
• 15:12
  is
• 15:13
  not
• 15:13
  the
• 15:13
  career
• 15:13
  for
• 15:13
  living.
• 15:14
  I've
• 15:14
  lived
• 15:14
  a
• 15:15
  great
• 15:15
  life
• 15:15
  so
• 15:16
  far.
• 15:16
  Halfway
• 15:17
  through
• 15:17
  it
• 15:17
  with
• 15:17
  all
• 15:18
  the
• 15:18
  cool
• 15:18
  things
• 15:18
  that
• 15:19
  you
• 15:19
  could
• 15:19
  do
• 15:20
  as
• 15:20
  a
• 15:20
  kitchen
• 15:20
  of
• 15:20
  bath
• 15:21
  designer.
• 15:21
  And
• 15:21
  35
• 15:22
  years
• 15:22
  later
• 15:22
  after
• 15:23
  that,
• 15:23
  I'm
• 15:24
  happy
• 15:24
  I
• 15:24
  did.
• 15:25
  But
• 15:25
  man,
• 15:25
  I
• 15:25
  tell
• 15:25
  you
• 15:26
  what,
• 15:26
  I'm
• 15:26
  watching
• 15:26
  kids
• 15:27
  now
• 15:27
  that
• 15:27
  are
• 15:27
  starting
• 15:27
  to
• 15:28
  get
• 15:28
  into
• 15:29
  H
• 15:29
  vac
• 15:30
  and
• 15:30
  electrical
• 15:31
  and
• 15:31
  framing
• 15:32
  and
• 15:32
  plumbing
• 15:33
  and
• 15:34
  tile
• 15:34
  setting
• 15:34
  and
• 15:34
  concrete
• 15:35
  work.
• 15:36
  And
• 15:36
  if
• 15:37
  I
• 15:37
  had
• 15:37
  done
• 15:37
  that
• 15:37
  back
• 15:38
  then,
• 15:38
  I'd
• 15:38
  probably
• 15:38
  have
• 15:39
  even
• 15:39
  more
• 15:39
  money
• 15:40
  in
• 15:40
  my
• 15:40
  back
• 15:40
  pocket
• 15:41
  right
• 15:41
  now.
• 15:41
  Probably
• 15:42
  made
• 15:42
  some
• 15:42
  better
• 15:42
  decisions
• 15:43
  along
• 15:43
  the
• 15:43
  way
• 15:43
  because
• 15:44
  I'd
• 15:44
  had
• 15:44
  the
• 15:44
  money
• 15:44
  to
• 15:45
  do
• 15:45
  it.
• 15:45
  Yeah,
• 15:46
  My
• 15:46
  little
• 15:46
  brother
• 15:47
  Joey.
• 15:48
  Yeah.
• 15:49
  So
• 15:49
  one's
• 15:50
  a
• 15:50
  genius
• 15:50
  software
• 15:50
  engineer.
• 15:51
  And
• 15:51
  then
• 15:51
  Joey
• 15:52
  gets
• 15:52
  into
• 15:52
  the
• 15:53
  insulators
• 15:53
  union.
• 15:54
  Yeah.
• 15:54
  Wrapping
• 15:55
  pipes
• 15:55
  at
• 15:55
  SeaTac
• 15:56
  Airport
• 15:56
  and
• 15:56
  things
• 15:57
  like
• 15:57
  that.
• 15:58
  And
• 15:58
  he's
• 15:58
  just
• 15:58
  a
• 15:59
  hustler.
• 15:59
  This
• 15:59
  little
• 15:59
  kid
• 16:00
  used
• 16:00
  to
• 16:00
  wake
• 16:00
  me
• 16:00
  up
• 16:01
  when
• 16:01
  he
• 16:01
  was.
• 16:02
  He
• 16:02
  must
• 16:02
  have
• 16:02
  been
• 16:03
  10
• 16:03
  when
• 16:03
  he
• 16:03
  started
• 16:03
  to
• 16:04
  go.
• 16:04
  Going
• 16:04
  to
• 16:05
  work
• 16:05
  with
• 16:05
  me
• 16:05
  on
• 16:05
  remodels.
• 16:06
  Yeah,
• 16:07
  he
• 16:07
  was
• 16:07
  just
• 16:08
  jacked
• 16:08
  up
• 16:08
  every
• 16:08
  day,
• 16:09
  man.
• 16:09
  He'd
• 16:09
  come
• 16:09
  wake
• 16:09
  me
• 16:10
  up,
• 16:10
  he's,
• 16:10
  I
• 16:10
  got
• 16:10
  the
• 16:10
  lunches
• 16:11
  packed,
• 16:11
  let's
• 16:11
  go,
• 16:12
  let's
• 16:12
  rock.
• 16:13
  I'm
• 16:13
  like,
• 16:13
  this
• 16:13
  kid
• 16:14
  is
• 16:14
  in.
• 16:14
  Where
• 16:14
  does
• 16:15
  this
• 16:15
  come
• 16:15
  from?
• 16:15
  From
• 16:15
  a
• 16:16
  10
• 16:16
  year
• 16:16
  old.
• 16:17
  And
• 16:18
  yeah,
• 16:18
  man,
• 16:18
  he
• 16:18
  got
• 16:19
  into
• 16:19
  the
• 16:20
  trades.
• 16:21
  And
• 16:21
  at
• 16:22
  35
• 16:22
  years,
• 16:22
  he's
• 16:23
  been
• 16:23
  running
• 16:23
  crews
• 16:23
  since
• 16:24
  he
• 16:24
  was
• 16:24
  27
• 16:25
  now.
• 16:25
  Yeah,
• 16:26
  got
• 16:27
  his
• 16:27
  own
• 16:27
  work
• 16:27
  truck,
• 16:28
  got
• 16:28
  an
• 16:29
  RV,
• 16:29
  got
• 16:29
  a
• 16:30
  big
• 16:30
  farms
• 16:30
  worth
• 16:30
  a
• 16:31
  million
• 16:31
  bucks.
• 16:31
  Got
• 16:31
  two
• 16:32
  kids
• 16:32
  and
• 16:32
  a
• 16:32
  wife,
• 16:33
  not
• 16:33
  a
• 16:33
  care
• 16:34
  in
• 16:34
  the
• 16:34
  world.
• 16:34
  Fully
• 16:35
  vested,
• 16:36
  gonna
• 16:36
  have
• 16:36
  a
• 16:36
  decent
• 16:37
  pension
• 16:37
  like
• 16:38
  at
• 16:38
  35
• 16:38
  years
• 16:38
  old.
• 16:39
  Yeah,
• 16:40
  that's
• 16:40
  crazy.
• 16:41
  You're
• 16:41
  just
• 16:41
  getting
• 16:41
  out
• 16:42
  of
• 16:42
  med
• 16:42
  school.
• 16:43
  Yeah,
• 16:44
  yeah,
• 16:44
  it's
• 16:44
  crazy.
• 16:45
  And
• 16:46
  living
• 16:46
  a
• 16:46
  good
• 16:46
  life.
• 16:46
  And
• 16:47
  so
• 16:47
  I
• 16:47
  just
• 16:47
  feel
• 16:48
  bad
• 16:48
  for
• 16:48
  the
• 16:48
  kids
• 16:48
  out
• 16:49
  there.
• 16:49
  And
• 16:49
  really
• 16:50
  there's
• 16:50
  such
• 16:50
  a
• 16:50
  great
• 16:51
  program,
• 16:51
  especially
• 16:51
  with
• 16:52
  the
• 16:52
  unions
• 16:52
  that
• 16:53
  you've
• 16:53
  got
• 16:53
  out
• 16:53
  there.
• 16:53
  There's
• 16:54
  trade
• 16:54
  schools
• 16:54
  out
• 16:54
  there
• 16:55
  you
• 16:55
  can
• 16:55
  do
• 16:55
  as
• 16:55
  well.
• 16:56
  There's
• 16:57
  so
• 16:57
  many
• 16:57
  great
• 16:57
  programs
• 16:58
  out
• 16:58
  there
• 16:59
  for
• 16:59
  people
• 16:59
  to
• 17:00
  get
• 17:00
  into
• 17:00
  this
• 17:00
  stuff.
• 17:01
  And
• 17:01
  I
• 17:02
  remember
• 17:02
  Handyman
• 17:03
  Bob,
• 17:03
  who
• 17:03
  was
• 17:03
  the
• 17:04
  precursor
• 17:05
  to
• 17:05
  me
• 17:05
  on
• 17:05
  this
• 17:05
  show.
• 17:06
  He
• 17:06
  was
• 17:06
  the
• 17:07
  one
• 17:07
  of
• 17:07
  the
• 17:07
  OGs
• 17:08
  of
• 17:08
  around
• 17:08
  the
• 17:08
  house
• 17:09
  here.
• 17:09
  And
• 17:10
  he.
• 17:10
  For
• 17:11
  a
• 17:11
  year,
• 17:11
  it
• 17:12
  was.
• 17:12
  Or
• 17:12
  year
• 17:13
  plus,
• 17:13
  about
• 17:13
  a
• 17:13
  decade
• 17:14
  ago,
• 17:14
  it
• 17:14
  was
• 17:14
  around
• 17:15
  the
• 17:15
  house
• 17:15
  with
• 17:15
  Handyman
• 17:16
  Bob
• 17:16
  and
• 17:16
  Eric
• 17:16
  G.
• 17:16
  And
• 17:17
  he
• 17:17
  handed
• 17:17
  the
• 17:17
  torch
• 17:18
  to
• 17:18
  me.
• 17:18
  And
• 17:19
  37
• 17:19
  years
• 17:20
  later,
• 17:20
  the
• 17:20
  show's
• 17:20
  still
• 17:21
  going
• 17:21
  on.
• 17:21
  But
• 17:22
  he
• 17:22
  was
• 17:22
  at
• 17:23
  a
• 17:23
  trades
• 17:23
  thing
• 17:23
  and
• 17:24
  in
• 17:24
  the
• 17:24
  Portland
• 17:24
  public
• 17:25
  schools
• 17:25
  here
• 17:25
  in
• 17:26
  Oregon,
• 17:26
  where
• 17:26
  we
• 17:26
  are,
• 17:27
  showed
• 17:28
  up
• 17:29
  and
• 17:29
  the.
• 17:30
  It
• 17:30
  was
• 17:30
  a
• 17:30
  trades
• 17:31
  day
• 17:31
  at
• 17:31
  the
• 17:32
  high
• 17:32
  school
• 17:33
  in.
• 17:33
  The
• 17:33
  principal
• 17:34
  introduced
• 17:34
  the
• 17:34
  plumber
• 17:35
  and
• 17:35
  said,
• 17:35
  all
• 17:35
  right,
• 17:35
  kids,
• 17:36
  if
• 17:36
  you
• 17:36
  don't
• 17:37
  do
• 17:38
  great
• 17:38
  in
• 17:38
  school,
• 17:39
  you're
• 17:39
  not
• 17:39
  gonna
• 17:40
  be.
• 17:40
  You
• 17:40
  could
• 17:41
  always
• 17:41
  be
• 17:41
  a
• 17:41
  plumber
• 17:42
  like
• 17:42
  this
• 17:42
  guy.
• 17:43
  And
• 17:44
  introduced
• 17:44
  him
• 17:45
  that
• 17:45
  way.
• 17:45
  Oh,
• 17:46
  yeah.
• 17:47
  Oh,
• 17:47
  he's
• 17:47
  son
• 17:48
  of
• 17:48
  a
• 17:48
  gun.
• 17:49
  Yeah.
• 17:49
  Yes.
• 17:50
  Actually,
• 17:50
  the
• 17:50
  guy
• 17:51
  gets
• 17:51
  up
• 17:51
  on
• 17:51
  stage,
• 17:52
  from
• 17:52
  what
• 17:52
  I
• 17:52
  was
• 17:52
  told,
• 17:53
  principal's
• 17:54
  making.
• 17:54
  A
• 17:54
  third
• 17:54
  of
• 17:55
  what
• 17:55
  that
• 17:55
  plumber's
• 17:55
  making,
• 17:56
  by
• 17:56
  the
• 17:56
  way.
• 17:57
  He
• 17:57
  comes
• 17:57
  up
• 17:57
  and
• 17:58
  goes,
• 17:58
  hey,
• 17:58
  I
• 17:58
  got
• 17:58
  a
• 17:59
  boat,
• 17:59
  I
• 18:00
  got
• 18:00
  a
• 18:00
  big
• 18:00
  house,
• 18:00
  I
• 18:01
  got
• 18:01
  all
• 18:01
  this
• 18:01
  stuff.
• 18:02
  I
• 18:02
  make
• 18:02
  twice
• 18:03
  as
• 18:03
  much
• 18:03
  as
• 18:03
  your
• 18:03
  principal.
• 18:04
  So
• 18:05
  you
• 18:05
  want
• 18:05
  to
• 18:05
  get
• 18:05
  into
• 18:06
  education,
• 18:06
  you
• 18:07
  don't
• 18:07
  really
• 18:07
  want
• 18:07
  to
• 18:07
  do
• 18:08
  much.
• 18:08
  You
• 18:08
  can
• 18:09
  always
• 18:09
  be
• 18:09
  a
• 18:09
  principal
• 18:09
  to
• 18:10
  high
• 18:10
  school
• 18:10
  and
• 18:10
  deal
• 18:10
  with
• 18:11
  kids
• 18:11
  like
• 18:11
  you.
• 18:12
  Or
• 18:12
  you
• 18:12
  could
• 18:12
  go
• 18:13
  out
• 18:13
  on
• 18:13
  the
• 18:13
  river
• 18:13
  and
• 18:13
  go
• 18:14
  skiing
• 18:14
  with
• 18:14
  me.
• 18:15
  Sweet.
• 18:16
  And
• 18:16
  just
• 18:17
  tore
• 18:17
  him
• 18:17
  right
• 18:18
  back
• 18:18
  down
• 18:18
  again.
• 18:18
  But
• 18:19
  it
• 18:19
  was
• 18:19
  way
• 18:19
  to
• 18:19
  own
• 18:19
  it,
• 18:20
  man.
• 18:20
  That's
• 18:20
  awesome.
• 18:21
  Yeah,
• 18:21
  that's
• 18:22
  how
• 18:22
  you
• 18:22
  and
• 18:22
  I
• 18:22
  would
• 18:22
  have
• 18:23
  handled
• 18:23
  it,
• 18:23
  too.
• 18:23
  I'd
• 18:24
  have
• 18:24
  been
• 18:24
  like,
• 18:24
  oh,
• 18:24
  really?
• 18:25
  All
• 18:25
  right,
• 18:25
  game
• 18:26
  on.
• 18:26
  Here
• 18:26
  we
• 18:26
  go.
• 18:27
  Let's
• 18:27
  talk
• 18:27
  principal.
• 18:28
  Ah,
• 18:28
  geez.
• 18:29
  I'd
• 18:30
  have
• 18:30
  schooled
• 18:30
  that
• 18:30
  principal.
• 18:31
  That
• 18:31
  have
• 18:31
  been
• 18:31
  good.
• 18:32
  That
• 18:32
  have
• 18:32
  been
• 18:32
  good.
• 18:33
  But
• 18:33
  that's
• 18:33
  our
• 18:33
  problem
• 18:34
  that
• 18:34
  we
• 18:34
  have
• 18:34
  in
• 18:34
  so
• 18:35
  many
• 18:35
  of
• 18:35
  these
• 18:35
  schools
• 18:35
  is
• 18:36
  the.
• 18:37
  I
• 18:37
  always
• 18:37
  call
• 18:38
  it
• 18:38
  the
• 18:38
  big
• 18:38
  business
• 18:38
  of
• 18:39
  a
• 18:39
  college
• 18:39
  education.
• 18:40
  We
• 18:40
  gotta
• 18:41
  have
• 18:41
  doctors,
• 18:41
  we
• 18:42
  gotta
• 18:42
  have
• 18:42
  all
• 18:42
  that
• 18:42
  stuff
• 18:43
  out
• 18:43
  there.
• 18:43
  We
• 18:43
  could
• 18:43
  have
• 18:44
  scientists.
• 18:44
  Totally
• 18:44
  get
• 18:45
  it.
• 18:45
  But
• 18:46
  every
• 18:46
  kid
• 18:46
  does
• 18:47
  not
• 18:47
  need
• 18:47
  to
• 18:47
  go
• 18:48
  to
• 18:48
  College.
• 18:49
  Yeah,
• 18:49
  there's
• 18:50
  30
• 18:50
  or
• 18:50
  40%
• 18:51
  of
• 18:51
  those
• 18:51
  people.
• 18:52
  I
• 18:52
  like
• 18:52
  what
• 18:52
  they
• 18:53
  do
• 18:53
  in
• 18:53
  Europe.
• 18:54
  I
• 18:54
  know
• 18:54
  some
• 18:54
  kids
• 18:55
  in
• 18:55
  Europe
• 18:55
  over
• 18:55
  there.
• 18:56
  And
• 18:56
  I'm
• 18:56
  not
• 18:56
  going
• 18:56
  to
• 18:56
  get
• 18:56
  into
• 18:56
  the
• 18:56
  countries
• 18:57
  and
• 18:57
  the
• 18:57
  politics
• 18:58
  and
• 18:58
  all
• 18:58
  that
• 18:58
  stuff
• 18:58
  because
• 18:59
  we
• 18:59
  don't
• 18:59
  do
• 18:59
  that
• 18:59
  here.
• 19:00
  But
• 19:00
  in
• 19:00
  some
• 19:01
  of
• 19:01
  those
• 19:01
  European
• 19:01
  countries,
• 19:02
  they
• 19:02
  come
• 19:02
  up
• 19:02
  and
• 19:02
  they
• 19:02
  look
• 19:02
  at
• 19:03
  your
• 19:03
  test
• 19:03
  scores
• 19:03
  and
• 19:03
  go,
• 19:03
  you're
• 19:04
  not
• 19:04
  going
• 19:04
  to
• 19:04
  be
• 19:05
  a
• 19:05
  scientist.
• 19:06
  You're
• 19:07
  not
• 19:07
  going
• 19:07
  to
• 19:07
  be
• 19:08
  a
• 19:08
  brain
• 19:08
  surgeon.
• 19:09
  So
• 19:10
  why
• 19:10
  don't
• 19:11
  we
• 19:11
  put
• 19:11
  that
• 19:11
  effort
• 19:12
  into
• 19:12
  you
• 19:12
  being
• 19:13
  just
• 19:13
  an
• 19:13
  amazing
• 19:13
  tradesperson
• 19:14
  and
• 19:14
  make
• 19:15
  as
• 19:15
  much
• 19:15
  as
• 19:15
  they
• 19:15
  do.
• 19:16
  How
• 19:16
  do
• 19:16
  you
• 19:16
  feel
• 19:16
  about
• 19:17
  welding,
• 19:17
  son?
• 19:18
  How
• 19:18
  do
• 19:18
  you
• 19:18
  feel
• 19:19
  about
• 19:19
  welding?
• 19:19
  Yeah,
• 19:20
  and
• 19:21
  nothing
• 19:21
  wrong
• 19:21
  with
• 19:22
  that,
• 19:22
  but
• 19:22
  I
• 19:22
  think
• 19:22
  that
• 19:23
  they're
• 19:24
  actually
• 19:24
  way
• 19:24
  ahead
• 19:25
  of
• 19:25
  where
• 19:26
  we
• 19:26
  are
• 19:26
  because
• 19:27
  in
• 19:27
  today's
• 19:28
  age,
• 19:28
  and
• 19:28
  I'm
• 19:29
  hopeful
• 19:29
  with
• 19:29
  our
• 19:30
  Gen
• 19:30
  Z
• 19:30
  kids
• 19:31
  out
• 19:31
  there,
• 19:32
  you
• 19:32
  younger
• 19:32
  guys
• 19:33
  out
• 19:33
  there
• 19:33
  that
• 19:33
  are
• 19:33
  listening
• 19:34
  to
• 19:34
  the
• 19:34
  show
• 19:34
  right
• 19:34
  now,
• 19:35
  I
• 19:35
  tell
• 19:35
  you
• 19:35
  what,
• 19:35
  you
• 19:36
  got
• 19:36
  something
• 19:36
  going
• 19:36
  good
• 19:37
  here.
• 19:38
  You
• 19:38
  see
• 19:38
  it.
• 19:39
  These
• 19:39
  kids
• 19:39
  are
• 19:39
  now
• 19:39
  listening
• 19:40
  to
• 19:40
  vinyl
• 19:40
  records
• 19:41
  or
• 19:41
  listening
• 19:41
  to
• 19:42
  the
• 19:42
  radio
• 19:42
  again
• 19:43
  and
• 19:44
  they're
• 19:44
  really
• 19:45
  staying
• 19:45
  focused.
• 19:45
  They're
• 19:46
  not
• 19:46
  getting
• 19:46
  into.
• 19:47
  Some
• 19:47
  of
• 19:47
  them
• 19:47
  are
• 19:48
  having
• 19:48
  landline
• 19:49
  phones
• 19:50
  and
• 19:50
  not
• 19:50
  using
• 19:50
  their
• 19:50
  cell
• 19:51
  phone
• 19:51
  as
• 19:51
  much.
• 19:51
  And
• 19:51
  I'm
• 19:52
  like,
• 19:52
  wow,
• 19:52
  we're
• 19:52
  going
• 19:52
  back
• 19:52
  to
• 19:53
  the
• 19:53
  80s
• 19:53
  and
• 19:53
  the
• 19:53
  early
• 19:53
  90s.
• 19:55
  Kind
• 19:55
  of
• 19:55
  cool
• 19:55
  to
• 19:55
  see
• 19:55
  that
• 19:56
  happening.
• 19:56
  Which
• 19:56
  means
• 19:57
  these
• 19:58
  are
• 19:58
  also
• 19:58
  the
• 19:58
  kids
• 19:58
  that
• 19:59
  are
• 19:59
  probably
• 19:59
  going
• 19:59
  to
• 19:59
  learn
• 19:59
  how
• 20:00
  to
• 20:00
  use
• 20:00
  their
• 20:00
  hands.
• 20:01
  And
• 20:01
  that's
• 20:01
  I
• 20:02
  think
• 20:02
  part
• 20:02
  of
• 20:02
  the
• 20:02
  issue
• 20:02
  is
• 20:03
  part
• 20:03
  of
• 20:03
  it's
• 20:03
  geographical.
• 20:04
  Let's
• 20:04
  get
• 20:05
  down
• 20:05
  to
• 20:05
  that
• 20:05
  for
• 20:05
  a
• 20:05
  second,
• 20:06
  right?
• 20:06
  You
• 20:06
  grew
• 20:07
  up
• 20:07
  in
• 20:07
  Issaquah
• 20:08
  and
• 20:08
  you
• 20:09
  tell
• 20:09
  your
• 20:09
  classmates
• 20:10
  you
• 20:10
  want
• 20:10
  to
• 20:10
  be
• 20:10
  a
• 20:10
  hot
• 20:10
  roofer.
• 20:11
  Yeah.
• 20:12
  They're
• 20:12
  like,
• 20:12
  oh,
• 20:13
  I'm
• 20:13
  going
• 20:13
  to
• 20:13
  be
• 20:13
  a
• 20:13
  Boeing
• 20:14
  exec
• 20:14
  or
• 20:14
  I'm
• 20:15
  going
• 20:15
  to
• 20:15
  be
• 20:15
  an
• 20:15
  engineer,
• 20:16
  an
• 20:16
  architect.
• 20:18
  And
• 20:18
  there's
• 20:18
  always
• 20:18
  been
• 20:19
  a
• 20:19
  bit
• 20:19
  of
• 20:19
  that
• 20:19
  stigma.
• 20:19
  I'll
• 20:20
  never
• 20:20
  forget
• 20:20
  one
• 20:20
  of
• 20:21
  my
• 20:21
  good
• 20:21
  friends
• 20:21
  Carrie
• 20:21
  was,
• 20:23
  we
• 20:23
  went
• 20:23
  to
• 20:23
  junior
• 20:23
  high
• 20:24
  school
• 20:24
  together.
• 20:24
  He
• 20:24
  became
• 20:25
  a
• 20:25
  hedge
• 20:25
  fund
• 20:25
  guy
• 20:26
  and
• 20:26
  capital
• 20:27
  management
• 20:28
  and
• 20:29
  we
• 20:29
  bought
• 20:29
  some
• 20:30
  rentals
• 20:30
  together
• 20:30
  and
• 20:30
  worked
• 20:31
  on
• 20:31
  these
• 20:31
  rentals
• 20:31
  together.
• 20:32
  He
• 20:32
  was
• 20:32
  one
• 20:32
  of
• 20:32
  the
• 20:32
  hard
• 20:32
  workingest
• 20:33
  son
• 20:33
  of
• 20:33
  a
• 20:34
  ever
• 20:34
  met
• 20:34
  because
• 20:34
  he
• 20:35
  was
• 20:35
  raised
• 20:35
  that
• 20:35
  way
• 20:35
  in
• 20:36
  Louisiana.
• 20:37
  But
• 20:37
  I
• 20:37
  never
• 20:38
  forget,
• 20:38
  man,
• 20:39
  one
• 20:39
  day
• 20:39
  his
• 20:39
  wife
• 20:39
  said
• 20:40
  to
• 20:40
  me,
• 20:40
  I
• 20:40
  can't
• 20:41
  believe
• 20:41
  he's
• 20:41
  out
• 20:41
  there
• 20:41
  doing
• 20:41
  that
• 20:42
  stuff
• 20:42
  with
• 20:42
  you.
• 20:42
  It's
• 20:43
  just,
• 20:43
  it's
• 20:43
  so
• 20:43
  blue
• 20:44
  collar.
• 20:45
  And
• 20:45
  I
• 20:45
  was
• 20:45
  like,
• 20:46
  what
• 20:46
  does
• 20:46
  that
• 20:46
  make
• 20:47
  me,
• 20:47
  woman?
• 20:47
  What
• 20:48
  a
• 20:48
  up
• 20:49
  there
• 20:49
  blondie.
• 20:50
  But
• 20:50
  that's
• 20:50
  the
• 20:51
  stigma,
• 20:51
  right?

  Ray
• 23:14
  on
• 23:14
  with
• 23:15
  Dallas
• 23:15
  Jones.
• 23:16
  We
• 23:17
  had
• 23:17
  a
• 23:17
  request
• 23:18
  that
• 23:18
  came
• 23:18
  in
• 23:19
  asking
• 23:20
  about
• 23:20
  radon
• 23:21
  and
• 23:21
  it's
• 23:21
  something
• 23:22
  that
• 23:22
  we
• 23:22
  haven't
• 23:23
  talked
• 23:23
  about
• 23:24
  in

  this

• 23:25
  for
• 23:25
  a
• 23:25
  couple
• 23:25
  years
• 23:25
  and
• 23:26
  they
• 23:26
  were
• 23:26
  right
• 23:27
  we
• 23:27
  were
• 23:27
  missing
• 23:28
  something.
• 23:29
  And
• 23:29
  you
• 23:29
  know
• 23:30
  something,
• 23:30
  I
• 23:30
  brought
• 23:30
  in
• 23:31
  one
• 23:31
  of
• 23:31
  the
• 23:31
  leading

• 23:32
  out

  there,

  if
• 23:33
  not
• 23:33
  the

• 23:34
  in

• 23:37
  Dallas
• 23:38
  Jones,
• 23:38
  welcome
• 23:39
  to
• 23:39
  around

• 23:40
  Thanks

  for

  having

  me,

  man.
• 23:42
  You

• 23:43
  of
• 23:44
  the

  because
• 23:45
  you
• 23:46
  have
• 23:46
  been
• 23:46
  doing
• 23:46
  this
• 23:47
  and
• 23:48
  really
• 23:48
  leading
• 23:49
  the
• 23:49
  charge
• 23:50
  with
• 23:51
  getting
• 23:51
  people
• 23:52
  to
• 23:52
  pay
• 23:52
  attention
• 23:52
  to
• 23:53
  this
• 23:54
  radioactive
• 23:55
  gas
• 23:55
  that
• 23:55
  nobody
• 23:56
  can
• 23:56
  see,
• 23:56
  smell,
• 23:56
  or
• 23:57
  just
• 23:58
  notice
• 23:58
  around
• 23:59
  their
• 23:59
  home.
• 23:59
  It's
• 24:00
  been
• 24:00
  a
• 24:00
  long
• 24:00
  time.
• 24:00
  I've
• 24:01
  been
• 24:01
  working
• 24:01
  in
• 24:01
  radon
• 24:02
  related
• 24:03
  services
• 24:04
  and
• 24:04
  technology
• 24:05
  and
• 24:05
  businesses
• 24:06
  since
• 24:06
  about
• 24:06
  1987.
• 24:08
  A
• 24:08
  lot
• 24:08
  of
• 24:08
  experience.
• 24:09
  No
• 24:10
  kidding.
• 24:11
  And
• 24:11
  in
• 24:11
  Oregon,
• 24:12
  where
• 24:12
  I
• 24:12
  live
• 24:12
  here,
• 24:13
  for
• 24:13
  instance,
• 24:13
  and
• 24:13
  this
• 24:13
  is
• 24:14
  what
• 24:14
  really
• 24:14
  gets
• 24:14
  homeowners
• 24:15
  and
• 24:15
  the
• 24:15
  show
• 24:16
  goes
• 24:16
  across
• 24:16
  the
• 24:16
  country,
• 24:17
  but
• 24:17
  in
• 24:17
  our
• 24:17
  area
• 24:18
  here,
• 24:19
  as
• 24:19
  part
• 24:20
  of
• 24:20
  a
• 24:20
  real
• 24:20
  estate
• 24:20
  sale,
• 24:21
  you
• 24:21
  have
• 24:21
  to
• 24:22
  have
• 24:22
  radon
• 24:23
  testing
• 24:23
  as
• 24:24
  part
• 24:24
  of
• 24:24
  the
• 24:24
  closing
• 24:25
  process.
• 24:25
  So
• 24:26
  that
• 24:26
  is
• 24:26
  it,
• 24:26
  which
• 24:27
  is
• 24:27
  cool.
• 24:28
  But
• 24:28
  the
• 24:28
  problem
• 24:28
  is
• 24:30
  we
• 24:30
  don't
• 24:30
  really
• 24:31
  have
• 24:31
  a
• 24:31
  great
• 24:31
  industry
• 24:32
  here.
• 24:33
  Nobody
• 24:34
  knows
• 24:34
  if
• 24:34
  it's
• 24:34
  good.
• 24:35
  Nobody
• 24:35
  can
• 24:35
  give
• 24:36
  any
• 24:36
  promises
• 24:36
  if
• 24:37
  it's
• 24:37
  going
• 24:37
  to
• 24:37
  work.
• 24:37
  And
• 24:37
  so
• 24:38
  homeowners,
• 24:38
  at
• 24:38
  least
• 24:39
  in
• 24:39
  my
• 24:39
  area,
• 24:39
  and
• 24:39
  this
• 24:39
  is
• 24:39
  where
• 24:40
  I
• 24:40
  think
• 24:40
  this
• 24:40
  came
• 24:40
  from,
• 24:41
  get
• 24:42
  very
• 24:42
  confused
• 24:42
  about
• 24:43
  what
• 24:43
  is
• 24:44
  radon?
• 24:45
  Will
• 24:45
  a
• 24:45
  mitigation
• 24:46
  system
• 24:46
  work
• 24:47
  and
• 24:47
  how
• 24:47
  do
• 24:47
  you
• 24:48
  know
• 24:48
  if
• 24:48
  it's
• 24:48
  working?
• 24:49
  Mitigation
• 24:49
  systems
• 24:50
  do
• 24:50
  work
• 24:51
  and.
• 24:51
  But
• 24:52
  they
• 24:52
  have
• 24:52
  to
• 24:52
  be
• 24:53
  verified
• 24:53
  that
• 24:53
  they're
• 24:54
  working.
• 24:54
  And
• 24:54
  you
• 24:54
  can't
• 24:55
  just
• 24:55
  assume
• 24:55
  once
• 24:55
  they're
• 24:56
  installed,
• 24:56
  they're
• 24:56
  going
• 24:57
  to
• 24:57
  work
• 24:57
  on
• 24:58
  and
• 24:58
  on
• 24:58
  year
• 24:58
  after
• 24:59
  year.
• 25:00
  Part
• 25:00
  of
• 25:00
  the
• 25:00
  issue
• 25:00
  is
• 25:01
  with
• 25:01
  a
• 25:01
  real
• 25:01
  estate
• 25:02
  transaction,
• 25:02
  we're
• 25:03
  limited
• 25:03
  to
• 25:03
  a
• 25:03
  very
• 25:04
  short
• 25:05
  time
• 25:05
  window.
• 25:06
  The
• 25:06
  home
• 25:07
  inspector
• 25:08
  and
• 25:08
  the
• 25:08
  buyer
• 25:09
  has
• 25:09
  a
• 25:09
  certain
• 25:10
  period
• 25:11
  that
• 25:11
  they're
• 25:11
  allowed
• 25:12
  to
• 25:12
  inspect
• 25:12
  the
• 25:13
  house.
• 25:14
  And
• 25:14
  so
• 25:14
  the
• 25:15
  radon
• 25:15
  test
• 25:16
  is
• 25:16
  just
• 25:17
  for
• 25:17
  two
• 25:17
  or
• 25:18
  three
• 25:18
  days
• 25:18
  typically.
• 25:19
  And
• 25:20
  while
• 25:21
  if
• 25:21
  it's
• 25:21
  done
• 25:22
  properly
• 25:22
  and
• 25:23
  it's
• 25:24
  done
• 25:24
  without
• 25:25
  any
• 25:25
  tampering
• 25:26
  or
• 25:26
  cheating
• 25:27
  on
• 25:27
  behalf
• 25:27
  of,
• 25:28
  say,
• 25:28
  a
• 25:28
  seller
• 25:29
  or
• 25:29
  an
• 25:29
  agent,
• 25:30
  then
• 25:30
  it,
• 25:31
  it
• 25:31
  can
• 25:32
  be
• 25:32
  a
• 25:32
  good
• 25:32
  test
• 25:32
  for
• 25:33
  that
• 25:33
  time
• 25:33
  period.
• 25:33
  But
• 25:34
  radon
• 25:34
  fluctuates
• 25:35
  from
• 25:36
  day
• 25:36
  to
• 25:37
  night,
• 25:37
  from
• 25:38
  season
• 25:38
  to
• 25:38
  season,
• 25:39
  and
• 25:41
  you're
• 25:41
  just
• 25:41
  getting
• 25:41
  a
• 25:41
  very
• 25:41
  short
• 25:43
  time
• 25:43
  window
• 25:44
  for
• 25:44
  that
• 25:44
  test.
• 25:45
  If
• 25:45
  it
• 25:45
  comes
• 25:45
  back
• 25:46
  elevated,
• 25:47
  then
• 25:47
  you
• 25:47
  can
• 25:48
  be
• 25:49
  reasonably
• 25:49
  assured
• 25:50
  that
• 25:51
  it's
• 25:51
  a
• 25:51
  wise
• 25:51
  move
• 25:52
  to
• 25:52
  go
• 25:52
  ahead
• 25:52
  and
• 25:52
  get
• 25:52
  it
• 25:53
  mitigated.
• 25:54
  But
• 25:54
  if
• 25:54
  it
• 25:54
  doesn't
• 25:55
  come
• 25:55
  back
• 25:55
  elevated,
• 25:56
  you
• 25:57
  can't
• 25:57
  necessarily
• 25:59
  conclude
• 26:00
  that
• 26:01
  it
• 26:01
  isn't
• 26:02
  elevated
• 26:03
  other
• 26:03
  times
• 26:03
  of
• 26:04
  the
• 26:04
  year.
• 26:05
  It's
• 26:05
  good
• 26:05
  if
• 26:05
  you
• 26:05
  have
• 26:06
  the
• 26:06
  ability
• 26:06
  to,
• 26:07
  to
• 26:08
  monitor
• 26:08
  over
• 26:08
  a
• 26:09
  longer
• 26:09
  period.
• 26:10
  Makes
• 26:10
  sense.
• 26:11
  Makes
• 26:11
  sense.
• 26:11
  Cause,
• 26:12
  yeah,
• 26:12
  I
• 26:12
  popped
• 26:12
  in
• 26:12
  on
• 26:13
  real
• 26:13
  estate
• 26:13
  transactions
• 26:14
  when
• 26:14
  my
• 26:15
  house,
• 26:15
  when
• 26:15
  I
• 26:15
  was
• 26:16
  buying
• 26:16
  it
• 26:16
  back
• 26:16
  in
• 26:16
  2019
• 26:17
  walked
• 26:18
  in
• 26:18
  and
• 26:18
  I'm
• 26:18
  like,
• 26:19
  okay,
• 26:21
  this
• 26:21
  is
• 26:21
  not
• 26:21
  an
• 26:22
  exact
• 26:22
  science
• 26:22
  here.
• 26:23
  They
• 26:23
  had
• 26:23
  the,
• 26:23
  they
• 26:24
  had
• 26:24
  a
• 26:24
  bathroom
• 26:25
  fan
• 26:25
  had
• 26:25
  been
• 26:26
  left
• 26:26
  on
• 26:26
  accidentally,
• 26:27
  I
• 26:27
  think.
• 26:27
  I'm
• 26:27
  not
• 26:28
  putting
• 26:28
  anybody
• 26:28
  in
• 26:28
  there,
• 26:29
  but
• 26:29
  I'm
• 26:29
  like,
• 26:30
  okay,
• 26:31
  that
• 26:31
  could
• 26:31
  skew
• 26:31
  the
• 26:32
  test.
• 26:32
  So
• 26:32
  I
• 26:32
  turned
• 26:33
  it
• 26:33
  off.
• 26:33
  And
• 26:33
  you
• 26:34
  think
• 26:34
  about
• 26:34
  it,
• 26:34
  especially
• 26:34
  when
• 26:35
  you
• 26:35
  start
• 26:35
  getting
• 26:35
  into
• 26:36
  newer
• 26:37
  homes
• 26:37
  that
• 26:37
  have
• 26:38
  lots
• 26:39
  of
• 26:39
  ventilation
• 26:40
  or
• 26:41
  new
• 26:41
  homes
• 26:41
  that
• 26:41
  have
• 26:42
  ERVs,
• 26:42
  HRVs,
• 26:43
  all
• 26:43
  these
• 26:43
  different
• 26:44
  things
• 26:44
  that
• 26:44
  are
• 26:44
  moving
• 26:44
  air
• 26:45
  around,
• 26:45
  it
• 26:46
  can
• 26:46
  be
• 26:46
  doing
• 26:46
  things
• 26:47
  like
• 26:47
  sucking
• 26:48
  up,
• 26:49
  creating
• 26:49
  a
• 26:49
  vacuum
• 26:50
  inside
• 26:50
  the
• 26:50
  house,
• 26:50
  or
• 26:50
  putting
• 26:51
  a
• 26:51
  pressure,
• 26:51
  which
• 26:51
  could
• 26:51
  always
• 26:52
  change
• 26:52
  that,
• 26:53
  it
• 26:53
  seems.
• 26:54
  Yeah,
• 26:54
  it's
• 26:54
  the
• 26:55
  pressure
• 26:55
  relationship
• 26:56
  between
• 26:56
  the
• 26:57
  house
• 26:57
  and
• 26:57
  the
• 26:57
  soil
• 26:58
  that
• 26:59
  allows
• 27:00
  radon
• 27:00
  entry
• 27:01
  to
• 27:01
  begin
• 27:01
  with.
• 27:01
  Soil
• 27:02
  gases
• 27:02
  are
• 27:03
  typically
• 27:03
  drawn
• 27:04
  into
• 27:04
  the
• 27:04
  house
• 27:04
  because
• 27:05
  the
• 27:05
  air
• 27:05
  pressure
• 27:06
  inside
• 27:06
  is
• 27:07
  a
• 27:07
  little
• 27:07
  lower
• 27:07
  than
• 27:07
  it
• 27:08
  is
• 27:08
  is
• 27:08
  in
• 27:08
  the
• 27:08
  ground.
• 27:09
  And
• 27:10
  so
• 27:10
  those
• 27:10
  gases
• 27:10
  are
• 27:11
  being
• 27:11
  sucked
• 27:11
  in
• 27:12
  through
• 27:12
  any,
• 27:13
  any
• 27:13
  crack
• 27:14
  or
• 27:14
  crevice
• 27:15
  or
• 27:15
  hole
• 27:15
  or
• 27:15
  whatever
• 27:16
  to
• 27:17
  up
• 27:18
  into
• 27:18
  the
• 27:18
  living
• 27:18
  space.
• 27:19
  And
• 27:20
  that's
• 27:20
  made
• 27:21
  worse
• 27:22
  at
• 27:22
  certain
• 27:22
  times
• 27:23
  of
• 27:23
  day,
• 27:24
  depending
• 27:24
  on
• 27:24
  the
• 27:24
  temperature
• 27:25
  outside
• 27:25
  versus
• 27:26
  inside,
• 27:27
  certain
• 27:27
  times
• 27:27
  of
• 27:27
  year,
• 27:28
  depending
• 27:28
  on
• 27:28
  the
• 27:29
  same
• 27:29
  thing.
• 27:29
  Or
• 27:29
  we
• 27:29
  have
• 27:30
  warm
• 27:30
  weather,
• 27:31
  cold
• 27:31
  weather,
• 27:31
  what's
• 27:31
  the
• 27:32
  temperature
• 27:32
  difference
• 27:32
  between
• 27:33
  in
• 27:33
  and
• 27:33
  out?
• 27:34
  And
• 27:34
  then
• 27:35
  things
• 27:35
  like
• 27:35
  you
• 27:36
  mentioned,
• 27:36
  exhaust
• 27:36
  fans.
• 27:38
  So
• 27:38
  there's
• 27:38
  this
• 27:38
  stack
• 27:39
  effect
• 27:39
  that
• 27:40
  is
• 27:41
  pulling
• 27:42
  air
• 27:42
  up
• 27:42
  from
• 27:43
  below
• 27:44
  and
• 27:44
  exhausting
• 27:45
  it
• 27:45
  where
• 27:45
  it
• 27:46
  can
• 27:46
  at
• 27:47
  the
• 27:47
  top,
• 27:48
  all
• 27:48
  of
• 27:48
  that
• 27:48
  can
• 27:49
  pull
• 27:49
  soil
• 27:49
  gases
• 27:50
  in.
• 27:50
  With
• 27:50
  a
• 27:50
  mitigation
• 27:51
  system,
• 27:51
  what
• 27:51
  we're
• 27:51
  trying
• 27:52
  to
• 27:52
  do
• 27:52
  is
• 27:52
  reverse
• 27:54
  that
• 27:54
  airflow.
• 27:56
  So
• 27:56
  they
• 27:56
  typically
• 27:57
  install
• 27:58
  what's
• 27:58
  called
• 27:59
  an
• 27:59
  active
• 27:59
  soil
• 28:00
  depressurization
• 28:01
  system.
• 28:02
  And
• 28:03
  they
• 28:03
  suck
• 28:04
  air
• 28:04
  from
• 28:05
  underneath
• 28:05
  the
• 28:06
  house
• 28:06
  with
• 28:06
  a
• 28:06
  pipe,
• 28:07
  it
• 28:07
  says
• 28:07
  PVC
• 28:08
  pipe
• 28:08
  typically,
• 28:08
  and
• 28:09
  an
• 28:09
  inline
• 28:10
  centrifugal
• 28:11
  fan.
• 28:12
  And
• 28:13
  it's
• 28:13
  pulling
• 28:13
  air
• 28:14
  out
• 28:14
  from
• 28:14
  underneath
• 28:15
  the
• 28:15
  building
• 28:16
  and
• 28:16
  creating
• 28:17
  a
• 28:17
  low
• 28:17
  pressure
• 28:18
  zone
• 28:19
  underneath
• 28:19
  the
• 28:20
  footprint.
• 28:21
  So
• 28:21
  that
• 28:21
  way,
• 28:22
  any
• 28:22
  cracks
• 28:23
  and
• 28:24
  openings
• 28:24
  that
• 28:25
  you
• 28:25
  can't
• 28:25
  see
• 28:26
  or
• 28:26
  get
• 28:26
  to,
• 28:27
  the
• 28:27
  air
• 28:28
  is
• 28:28
  moving
• 28:29
  from
• 28:29
  the
• 28:29
  house
• 28:30
  down
• 28:31
  rather
• 28:31
  than
• 28:32
  from
• 28:32
  the
• 28:32
  ground
• 28:33
  in.
• 28:34
  And
• 28:34
  if
• 28:34
  you
• 28:34
  can
• 28:34
  maintain
• 28:35
  that,
• 28:36
  then
• 28:36
  you've
• 28:37
  got
• 28:37
  a
• 28:37
  good
• 28:38
  system.
• 28:38
  The
• 28:39
  part
• 28:39
  of
• 28:39
  the
• 28:40
  issue
• 28:40
  with
• 28:41
  just
• 28:41
  assuming
• 28:42
  that
• 28:42
  a
• 28:42
  mitigation
• 28:43
  system
• 28:43
  is
• 28:43
  working
• 28:44
  is
• 28:44
  let's
• 28:45
  say
• 28:45
  you
• 28:45
  have
• 28:46
  the
• 28:46
  test
• 28:46
  done
• 28:47
  in
• 28:47
  the
• 28:47
  spring
• 28:47
  or
• 28:47
  the
• 28:48
  fall
• 28:48
  when
• 28:48
  the
• 28:48
  weather's
• 28:49
  kind
• 28:49
  of
• 28:49
  mild
• 28:49
  and
• 28:50
  they,
• 28:51
  they
• 28:51
  come
• 28:51
  and
• 28:52
  do
• 28:52
  a
• 28:52
  mitigation,
• 28:53
  they
• 28:53
  put
• 28:53
  in
• 28:53
  the
• 28:53
  system,
• 28:54
  they
• 28:54
  do
• 28:55
  a
• 28:55
  short
• 28:55
  two
• 28:55
  or
• 28:56
  three
• 28:56
  day
• 28:56
  test
• 28:56
  after
• 28:57
  the
• 28:57
  installation,
• 28:58
  and
• 28:58
  it
• 28:58
  looks
• 28:58
  good
• 28:59
  for
• 28:59
  that
• 28:59
  time
• 28:59
  period.
• 29:00
  And
• 29:00
  that's
• 29:01
  because
• 29:01
  it's
• 29:01
  maintaining
• 29:02
  that
• 29:02
  lower
• 29:02
  pressure
• 29:03
  underneath
• 29:04
  during
• 29:04
  the
• 29:05
  time
• 29:05
  of
• 29:05
  the
• 29:05
  test.
• 29:06
  But
• 29:07
  then
• 29:07
  let's
• 29:07
  say
• 29:08
  cold
• 29:08
  weather,
• 29:09
  winter
• 29:09
  comes
• 29:10
  along
• 29:10
  and
• 29:10
  you
• 29:10
  start
• 29:11
  to
• 29:11
  turn
• 29:11
  on
• 29:11
  the
• 29:12
  heat
• 29:12
  and
• 29:13
  the
• 29:13
  Temperature
• 29:13
  between
• 29:14
  inside
• 29:14
  and
• 29:14
  out
• 29:15
  is
• 29:15
  greater,
• 29:16
  then
• 29:17
  perhaps
• 29:18
  that
• 29:19
  system
• 29:19
  can
• 29:19
  be
• 29:19
  overwhelmed
• 29:21
  by
• 29:22
  the
• 29:22
  stack
• 29:22
  effect
• 29:23
  in
• 29:23
  the
• 29:23
  house.
• 29:23
  During
• 29:24
  that
• 29:24
  time
• 29:24
  of
• 29:24
  year,
• 29:25
  it
• 29:26
  may
• 29:26
  not
• 29:26
  be
• 29:26
  working
• 29:26
  so
• 29:27
  well.
• 29:27
  So
• 29:27
  it's
• 29:28
  really
• 29:28
  good
• 29:29
  to
• 29:29
  have
• 29:29
  the
• 29:30
  ability
• 29:30
  to
• 29:30
  continuously
• 29:31
  monitor.
• 29:33
  And
• 29:33
  the
• 29:34
  great
• 29:34
  thing
• 29:35
  is
• 29:35
  today
• 29:35
  there
• 29:36
  are
• 29:37
  devices
• 29:37
  out
• 29:37
  there
• 29:38
  that
• 29:38
  are
• 29:38
  very
• 29:38
  sophisticated
• 29:39
  and
• 29:39
  affordable
• 29:41
  for
• 29:41
  homeowners
• 29:42
  to
• 29:42
  have
• 29:42
  that
• 29:42
  they
• 29:42
  can
• 29:42
  monitor
• 29:43
  their
• 29:43
  radon
• 29:44
  over
• 29:44
  time,
• 29:45
  either
• 29:46
  whether
• 29:46
  it's
• 29:46
  before
• 29:47
  they
• 29:48
  have
• 29:48
  mitigation
• 29:48
  to
• 29:49
  see
• 29:49
  whether
• 29:49
  they
• 29:49
  need
• 29:50
  to
• 29:50
  take
• 29:51
  action
• 29:51
  at
• 29:51
  all,
• 29:52
  or
• 29:52
  whether
• 29:52
  it's
• 29:53
  after
• 29:53
  mitigation
• 29:54
  to
• 29:54
  make
• 29:54
  sure
• 29:54
  the
• 29:54
  system
• 29:55
  is
• 29:55
  working.
• 29:56
  That
• 29:56
  makes
• 29:56
  sense.
• 29:57
  And
• 29:57
  that's
• 29:57
  a
• 29:57
  great
• 29:58
  idea
• 29:58
  because
• 29:59
  let's
• 29:59
  say
• 29:59
  you
• 30:00
  put
• 30:00
  a
• 30:00
  system
• 30:00
  in
• 30:00
  and
• 30:01
  something
• 30:02
  happens
• 30:02
  and
• 30:02
  you
• 30:02
  get
• 30:02
  a
• 30:03
  crack
• 30:04
  on
• 30:04
  the
• 30:04
  other
• 30:04
  side
• 30:05
  of
• 30:05
  the
• 30:05
  house
• 30:05
  from
• 30:05
  the
• 30:05
  mitigation
• 30:06
  system
• 30:06
  in
• 30:06
  the
• 30:06
  concrete
• 30:07
  floor,
• 30:07
  let's
• 30:07
  say
• 30:08
  something
• 30:08
  happens,
• 30:08
  you
• 30:09
  get
• 30:09
  a
• 30:09
  crack,
• 30:09
  then
• 30:09
  all
• 30:10
  of
• 30:10
  a
• 30:10
  sudden
• 30:11
  maybe
• 30:11
  that's
• 30:11
  not
• 30:11
  pulling
• 30:12
  all
• 30:12
  the
• 30:12
  way
• 30:12
  over
• 30:12
  there
• 30:13
  because
• 30:13
  especially
• 30:14
  when
• 30:14
  things
• 30:14
  are
• 30:14
  retrofitted
• 30:15
  many
• 30:15
  times
• 30:16
  they,
• 30:16
  they
• 30:17
  didn't
• 30:17
  plan
• 30:17
  for
• 30:17
  a
• 30:17
  mitigation
• 30:18
  system.
• 30:19
  So
• 30:19
  there's
• 30:19
  at
• 30:20
  best
• 30:20
  some
• 30:20
  gravel,
• 30:21
  hopefully
• 30:22
  and
• 30:22
  concrete.
• 30:23
  I've
• 30:23
  seen
• 30:23
  them
• 30:24
  pour
• 30:24
  it
• 30:24
  right
• 30:24
  on
• 30:24
  dirt
• 30:25
  and
• 30:26
  hard
• 30:27
  to
• 30:27
  create
• 30:27
  a
• 30:27
  vacuum
• 30:28
  when
• 30:28
  it's
• 30:28
  dirt
• 30:28
  on
• 30:28
  the
• 30:28
  concrete.
• 30:29
  Right.
• 30:30
  You
• 30:30
  have
• 30:30
  to
• 30:30
  be,
• 30:31
  you
• 30:31
  have
• 30:32
  to
• 30:32
  be
• 30:33
  a
• 30:33
  little
• 30:34
  more
• 30:35
  conscious
• 30:36
  of
• 30:36
  your,
• 30:37
  of
• 30:37
  how
• 30:37
  to
• 30:37
  create
• 30:38
  that
• 30:38
  vacuum
• 30:38
  when
• 30:39
  you
• 30:39
  don't
• 30:39
  have
• 30:39
  gravel.
• 30:40
  For
• 30:41
  example,
• 30:42
  I
• 30:42
  live
• 30:42
  in
• 30:43
  north
• 30:44
  Georgia
• 30:44
  in
• 30:45
  the
• 30:45
  north
• 30:45
  Atlanta
• 30:46
  area.
• 30:47
  And
• 30:47
  a
• 30:47
  lot
• 30:47
  of
• 30:47
  the
• 30:48
  older
• 30:48
  houses
• 30:49
  are
• 30:49
  built
• 30:49
  on
• 30:50
  red
• 30:50
  clay,
• 30:51
  same
• 30:51
  kind
• 30:52
  of
• 30:52
  thing.
• 30:52
  And
• 30:53
  it's
• 30:53
  not
• 30:53
  very
• 30:54
  susceptible
• 30:54
  to
• 30:55
  airflow
• 30:56
  unless
• 30:57
  you
• 30:57
  find
• 30:58
  where
• 30:58
  you
• 30:58
  can
• 30:59
  get
• 30:59
  airflow.
• 31:00
  For
• 31:00
  example,
• 31:01
  around
• 31:01
  the
• 31:01
  footings
• 31:03
  at
• 31:03
  the
• 31:03
  perimeter,
• 31:04
  they
• 31:05
  dug
• 31:05
  out
• 31:05
  and
• 31:05
  then
• 31:06
  they
• 31:06
  back
• 31:06
  filled
• 31:07
  to
• 31:07
  pour
• 31:08
  those
• 31:08
  footings.
• 31:09
  And
• 31:09
  oftentimes
• 31:10
  there'll
• 31:10
  be
• 31:10
  some
• 31:10
  settling
• 31:11
  underneath
• 31:12
  the
• 31:12
  slab
• 31:13
  over
• 31:14
  time.
• 31:14
  So
• 31:14
  then
• 31:15
  if
• 31:15
  you
• 31:15
  can
• 31:15
  put
• 31:16
  your
• 31:16
  suction
• 31:16
  points
• 31:16
  on
• 31:17
  those
• 31:18
  along
• 31:19
  those
• 31:19
  walls
• 31:20
  where
• 31:20
  you
• 31:20
  can
• 31:20
  take
• 31:21
  advantage
• 31:21
  of
• 31:21
  that
• 31:21
  airspace,
• 31:23
  then
• 31:23
  you
• 31:23
  can,
• 31:23
  you
• 31:24
  can
• 31:24
  extend
• 31:24
  that
• 31:25
  pressure
• 31:25
  field
• 31:25
  down
• 31:26
  to
• 31:26
  the
• 31:26
  opposite
• 31:27
  corners.
• 31:27
  Sometimes
• 31:28
  it
• 31:28
  takes
• 31:28
  multiple
• 31:29
  suction
• 31:29
  points
• 31:29
  in
• 31:30
  order
• 31:30
  to
• 31:30
  do
• 31:30
  that.
• 31:31
  Makes
• 31:31
  sense.
• 31:32
  If
• 31:32
  you
• 31:32
  were
• 31:32
  to,
• 31:32
  if
• 31:32
  you
• 31:33
  were.
• 31:33
  To
• 31:33
  talk
• 31:33
  to
• 31:33
  people
• 31:34
  who
• 31:34
  tested
• 31:35
  during
• 31:35
  mitigation,
• 31:36
  I
• 31:37
  bet
• 31:37
  you
• 31:37
  could,
• 31:37
  or
• 31:38
  excuse
• 31:38
  me,
• 31:38
  tested
• 31:39
  during
• 31:39
  their
• 31:41
  real
• 31:41
  estate
• 31:41
  purchase
• 31:42
  when
• 31:42
  they
• 31:42
  bought
• 31:42
  their
• 31:43
  home
• 31:43
  and
• 31:44
  they
• 31:44
  had
• 31:44
  a
• 31:44
  mitigation
• 31:45
  system
• 31:45
  put
• 31:45
  in.
• 31:46
  Or
• 31:46
  even
• 31:47
  if
• 31:47
  they
• 31:47
  didn't,
• 31:47
  they
• 31:47
  tested
• 31:48
  during
• 31:48
  that
• 31:48
  time,
• 31:49
  they
• 31:49
  tested
• 31:49
  after
• 31:50
  the
• 31:50
  mitigation.
• 31:51
  Things
• 31:51
  came
• 31:51
  back
• 31:52
  looking
• 31:52
  good
• 31:53
  for
• 31:53
  that
• 31:53
  two
• 31:53
  day
• 31:53
  test
• 31:54
  and
• 31:54
  they
• 31:54
  forget
• 31:54
  about
• 31:55
  radon.
• 31:55
  Sure,
• 31:56
  I'm
• 31:56
  done
• 31:56
  with
• 31:56
  it.
• 31:57
  And
• 31:58
  it
• 31:58
  could
• 31:58
  be
• 31:58
  20
• 31:59
  years
• 31:59
  later
• 32:00
  and
• 32:01
  they
• 32:01
  still
• 32:01
  think
• 32:01
  everything's
• 32:02
  just
• 32:02
  fine
• 32:03
  and
• 32:03
  like
• 32:03
  you
• 32:04
  mentioned,
• 32:04
  there's
• 32:04
  so
• 32:04
  many
• 32:04
  things
• 32:05
  that
• 32:05
  can
• 32:05
  cause
• 32:06
  changes
• 32:07
  in
• 32:07
  the
• 32:07
  structure.
• 32:08
  Earthquake
• 32:09
  activity.
• 32:09
  There's
• 32:10
  a
• 32:10
  huge
• 32:10
  one.
• 32:11
  Blasting.
• 32:11
  Oh
• 32:12
  yeah,
• 32:12
  blasting.
• 32:13
  Because
• 32:13
  there's
• 32:14
  construction
• 32:15
  going
• 32:15
  on
• 32:15
  nearby
• 32:15
  and
• 32:16
  they're
• 32:16
  doing
• 32:16
  blasting.
• 32:17
  Or
• 32:18
  you
• 32:19
  have
• 32:19
  extended
• 32:20
  period
• 32:20
  of
• 32:21
  unusual
• 32:21
  drought.

  Eric
• 34:59
  G.
• 35:00
  Discussing
• 35:00
  radon
• 35:01
  with
• 35:01
  Dallas
• 35:02
  Jones.
• 35:02
  They
• 35:03
  tested,
• 35:03
  after
• 35:03
  the
• 35:03
  mitigation,
• 35:05
  things
• 35:05
  came
• 35:05
  back
• 35:06
  looking
• 35:06
  good
• 35:06
  for
• 35:06
  that
• 35:07
  two
• 35:07
  day
• 35:07
  test
• 35:07
  and
• 35:07
  they
• 35:08
  forget
• 35:08
  about
• 35:08
  radon.
• 35:09
  Sure,
• 35:09
  I'm
• 35:10
  done
• 35:10
  with
• 35:10
  it.
• 35:11
  And
• 35:12
  it
• 35:12
  could
• 35:12
  be
• 35:12
  20
• 35:12
  years
• 35:13
  later
• 35:14
  and
• 35:14
  they,
• 35:14
  they
• 35:14
  still
• 35:15
  think
• 35:15
  everything's
• 35:16
  just
• 35:16
  fine.
• 35:16
  And
• 35:17
  like
• 35:17
  you
• 35:17
  mentioned,
• 35:18
  there's
• 35:18
  so
• 35:18
  many
• 35:18
  things
• 35:18
  that
• 35:19
  can
• 35:19
  cause
• 35:20
  changes
• 35:20
  in
• 35:21
  the
• 35:21
  structure.
• 35:22
  Earthquake
• 35:22
  activity.
• 35:23
  There's
• 35:23
  a
• 35:24
  huge
• 35:24
  one,
• 35:24
  right?
• 35:24
  Blasting.
• 35:25
  Oh
• 35:25
  yeah,
• 35:26
  blasting.
• 35:27
  Because
• 35:27
  there's
• 35:28
  construction
• 35:28
  going
• 35:28
  on
• 35:29
  nearby
• 35:29
  and
• 35:29
  they're
• 35:30
  doing
• 35:30
  blasting.
• 35:31
  Or
• 35:32
  you
• 35:32
  have
• 35:33
  extended
• 35:34
  period
• 35:34
  of
• 35:34
  unusual
• 35:35
  drought.
• 35:36
  Or
• 35:37
  you
• 35:37
  decide
• 35:38
  to
• 35:39
  put
• 35:39
  in
• 35:39
  a
• 35:39
  new
• 35:39
  heating
• 35:40
  and
• 35:40
  air
• 35:40
  conditioning
• 35:41
  system
• 35:41
  which
• 35:42
  can
• 35:42
  have
• 35:42
  an
• 35:42
  impact.
• 35:43
  Or
• 35:44
  you
• 35:44
  do
• 35:45
  some
• 35:45
  renovations.
• 35:45
  Yeah.
• 35:46
  Some
• 35:46
  pumps
• 35:46
  in
• 35:46
  the
• 35:46
  basement
• 35:47
  can
• 35:47
  change
• 35:47
  things,
• 35:48
  right?
• 35:48
  Yeah.
• 35:49
  Or
• 35:49
  you
• 35:49
  have
• 35:49
  to
• 35:50
  dig
• 35:50
  out
• 35:51
  because
• 35:51
  of
• 35:52
  the,
• 35:52
  the
• 35:52
  plumbing
• 35:53
  coming
• 35:53
  in
• 35:53
  from
• 35:53
  the
• 35:54
  street
• 35:54
  is
• 35:55
  old
• 35:55
  and
• 35:56
  they
• 35:56
  have
• 35:56
  to
• 35:56
  replace
• 35:57
  it.
• 35:57
  So
• 35:57
  they
• 35:58
  trench
• 35:58
  and,
• 35:59
  and
• 35:59
  backfill
• 36:00
  and
• 36:00
  maybe
• 36:00
  there
• 36:00
  now
• 36:00
  there's
• 36:01
  a
• 36:01
  new
• 36:01
  entryway.
• 36:02
  So
• 36:02
  all
• 36:02
  those
• 36:03
  things
• 36:03
  can
• 36:03
  cause
• 36:04
  changes
• 36:04
  and
• 36:05
  if
• 36:05
  you
• 36:05
  don't
• 36:05
  keep
• 36:05
  an
• 36:05
  eye
• 36:06
  on
• 36:06
  it,
• 36:06
  then
• 36:07
  you
• 36:07
  just
• 36:07
  never
• 36:07
  know.
• 36:08
  So
• 36:09
  really
• 36:09
  for
• 36:09
  most
• 36:09
  people
• 36:10
  it's
• 36:10
  just
• 36:10
  smart
• 36:10
  to,
• 36:11
  if
• 36:11
  you've
• 36:11
  got
• 36:11
  a
• 36:11
  system,
• 36:12
  make
• 36:12
  sure
• 36:12
  that
• 36:12
  you
• 36:13
  have
• 36:13
  somebody
• 36:13
  coming
• 36:13
  out
• 36:13
  to
• 36:14
  maintain
• 36:14
  it
• 36:14
  and
• 36:15
  take
• 36:15
  a
• 36:15
  look
• 36:15
  at
• 36:15
  it.
• 36:16
  But
• 36:16
  really
• 36:17
  self
• 36:17
  testing
• 36:18
  seems
• 36:18
  to
• 36:18
  be
• 36:18
  the
• 36:19
  way
• 36:19
  to,
• 36:20
  to
• 36:20
  have
• 36:20
  it
• 36:20
  safe.
• 36:20
  Is
• 36:21
  there
• 36:21
  really
• 36:21
  a
• 36:22
  safe
• 36:22
  right
• 36:22
  on
• 36:22
  level?
• 36:23
  I
• 36:23
  know
• 36:23
  there's.
• 36:24
  You
• 36:24
  should
• 36:24
  mitigate
• 36:25
  at
• 36:25
  this
• 36:25
  point,
• 36:26
  but
• 36:26
  is
• 36:26
  it
• 36:27
  like
• 36:27
  anything
• 36:27
  else
• 36:27
  that's
• 36:28
  bad,
• 36:28
  you
• 36:28
  probably
• 36:28
  shouldn't
• 36:29
  have
• 36:29
  any.
• 36:29
  If
• 36:29
  you
• 36:29
  can
• 36:29
  get
• 36:30
  away
• 36:30
  with
• 36:30
  it.
• 36:31
  It's
• 36:31
  difficult
• 36:32
  to
• 36:32
  not
• 36:32
  have
• 36:33
  any
• 36:33
  because
• 36:33
  there's
• 36:33
  a
• 36:34
  little
• 36:34
  background
• 36:35
  right
• 36:35
  on
• 36:35
  concentration,
• 36:36
  even
• 36:36
  outside.
• 36:37
  The
• 36:38
  reason
• 36:38
  it's
• 36:39
  not
• 36:39
  harmful
• 36:39
  outside
• 36:40
  is
• 36:40
  because
• 36:41
  it
• 36:41
  comes
• 36:41
  out
• 36:41
  of
• 36:42
  the
• 36:42
  soil
• 36:42
  and
• 36:42
  dilutes
• 36:43
  into
• 36:43
  the
• 36:43
  atmosphere
• 36:44
  rapidly.
• 36:45
  And
• 36:45
  we're
• 36:46
  not
• 36:46
  breathing
• 36:47
  much
• 36:47
  of
• 36:47
  that
• 36:47
  at
• 36:48
  all.
• 36:48
  But
• 36:49
  when
• 36:50
  it
• 36:50
  can
• 36:50
  get
• 36:50
  into
• 36:50
  the
• 36:51
  house,
• 36:51
  it
• 36:51
  can
• 36:51
  build
• 36:51
  up
• 36:52
  to
• 36:52
  a
• 36:52
  level
• 36:52
  that
• 36:52
  we're
• 36:53
  breathing.
• 36:53
  And
• 36:54
  it's
• 36:54
  been
• 36:54
  demonstrated
• 36:55
  over
• 36:55
  and
• 36:56
  again,
• 36:56
  with
• 36:56
  not
• 36:57
  just
• 36:57
  minor
• 36:58
  studies,
• 36:58
  but
• 36:58
  lots
• 36:59
  of
• 36:59
  residential
• 36:59
  studies,
• 37:00
  not
• 37:00
  just
• 37:00
  in
• 37:00
  the
• 37:01
  United
• 37:01
  States,
• 37:01
  but
• 37:01
  all
• 37:02
  over
• 37:02
  the
• 37:02
  world,
• 37:03
  that
• 37:03
  it
• 37:04
  has
• 37:04
  a
• 37:05
  direct
• 37:05
  connection
• 37:05
  to
• 37:06
  increased
• 37:07
  risk
• 37:07
  of
• 37:07
  lung
• 37:07
  cancer.
• 37:08
  So
• 37:09
  the
• 37:09
  four
• 37:09
  picocurie
• 37:10
  per
• 37:10
  liter
• 37:10
  action
• 37:11
  level
• 37:11
  here
• 37:11
  in
• 37:11
  the
• 37:12
  United
• 37:12
  States
• 37:13
  was
• 37:14
  not
• 37:14
  set
• 37:15
  because
• 37:15
  it
• 37:16
  was
• 37:16
  considered
• 37:16
  to
• 37:16
  be
• 37:17
  a
• 37:17
  safe
• 37:17
  point.
• 37:18
  It
• 37:18
  was
• 37:19
  years
• 37:19
  ago
• 37:20
  when
• 37:20
  they
• 37:21
  set
• 37:21
  that
• 37:22
  it
• 37:22
  was
• 37:22
  considered
• 37:23
  to
• 37:23
  be
• 37:23
  an
• 37:23
  achievable
• 37:24
  concentration
• 37:25
  that
• 37:26
  our
• 37:26
  mitigation
• 37:26
  technology
• 37:27
  could
• 37:28
  consistently
• 37:29
  reduce
• 37:29
  levels
• 37:30
  to
• 37:30
  below
• 37:30
  4
• 37:31
  picocuries
• 37:31
  per
• 37:32
  liter.
• 37:32
  But
• 37:33
  they'll
• 37:33
  tell
• 37:33
  you
• 37:34
  when
• 37:34
  they
• 37:34
  look
• 37:34
  at
• 37:34
  the
• 37:35
  epidemiology
• 37:36
  data
• 37:36
  that
• 37:37
  there's
• 37:37
  a
• 37:38
  sizable
• 37:38
  portion
• 37:39
  of
• 37:39
  these
• 37:39
  lung
• 37:39
  cancers
• 37:40
  that
• 37:41
  occur
• 37:41
  to
• 37:42
  exposures
• 37:42
  of
• 37:43
  less
• 37:43
  than
• 37:44
  4
• 37:44
  picocuries
• 37:45
  per
• 37:45
  liter.
• 37:46
  Any
• 37:46
  reduction
• 37:47
  in
• 37:48
  the
• 37:48
  concentration
• 37:49
  is
• 37:49
  reduction
• 37:50
  in
• 37:50
  risk.
• 37:51
  If
• 37:51
  you
• 37:51
  read
• 37:51
  the
• 37:52
  EPA
• 37:52
  guidance
• 37:53
  carefully,
• 37:54
  it'll
• 37:54
  say
• 37:55
  if
• 37:55
  you
• 37:55
  test
• 37:55
  your
• 37:56
  home
• 37:56
  and
• 37:56
  the
• 37:56
  concentrations
• 37:57
  on
• 37:58
  average
• 37:58
  are
• 37:58
  4
• 37:58
  picocuries
• 37:59
  per
• 37:59
  liter
• 38:00
  or
• 38:00
  higher.
• 38:01
  Fix
• 38:01
  the
• 38:01
  home.
• 38:02
  If
• 38:03
  it's
• 38:03
  between
• 38:04
  2
• 38:04
  and
• 38:04
  4
• 38:04
  picocuries
• 38:05
  per
• 38:06
  liter,
• 38:06
  consider
• 38:07
  fixing
• 38:08
  the
• 38:08
  home.
• 38:09
  Yeah.
• 38:10
  If
• 38:11
  you're
• 38:11
  a
• 38:11
  home
• 38:11
  buyer
• 38:12
  and
• 38:12
  you're
• 38:13
  negotiating
• 38:13
  with
• 38:14
  the
• 38:14
  seller
• 38:15
  and
• 38:16
  the
• 38:16
  concentrations
• 38:17
  are
• 38:17
  between
• 38:18
  2
• 38:18
  and
• 38:18
  4,
• 38:19
  you
• 38:19
  may
• 38:19
  not
• 38:20
  be
• 38:20
  able
• 38:21
  to
• 38:21
  negotiate
• 38:21
  having
• 38:22
  them
• 38:23
  mitigate
• 38:23
  the
• 38:24
  house
• 38:24
  at
• 38:24
  their
• 38:24
  expense,
• 38:25
  but
• 38:26
  you,
• 38:27
  you
• 38:27
  may
• 38:27
  really
• 38:27
  want
• 38:28
  to
• 38:28
  take
• 38:28
  a
• 38:28
  look
• 38:29
  at
• 38:29
  it
• 38:29
  over
• 38:29
  a
• 38:29
  longer
• 38:29
  period
• 38:30
  of
• 38:30
  time
• 38:30
  and
• 38:30
  see
• 38:30
  whether
• 38:31
  you
• 38:31
  want
• 38:31
  to
• 38:31
  go
• 38:31
  ahead
• 38:32
  and
• 38:32
  mitigate
• 38:32
  it
• 38:32
  for
• 38:33
  the
• 38:33
  health
• 38:33
  and
• 38:34
  well
• 38:34
  being
• 38:34
  of
• 38:34
  your
• 38:34
  family.
• 38:35
  Yeah,
• 38:35
  good
• 38:36
  point,
• 38:36
  Good
• 38:36
  point.
• 38:37
  Because
• 38:37
  really
• 38:37
  that
• 38:37
  should
• 38:37
  be
• 38:38
  your.
• 38:38
  Probably
• 38:38
  your
• 38:38
  next
• 38:39
  renovation
• 38:39
  on
• 38:40
  your
• 38:40
  brand
• 38:40
  new
• 38:40
  house
• 38:40
  is
• 38:41
  just
• 38:41
  making
• 38:41
  sure
• 38:41
  that
• 38:41
  it's
• 38:42
  safe
• 38:42
  because.
• 38:43
  Yeah,
• 38:44
  absolutely.
• 38:45
  And
• 38:45
  in
• 38:45
  my
• 38:45
  area
• 38:46
  here
• 38:46
  in,
• 38:46
  across
• 38:46
  the
• 38:47
  country,
• 38:47
  it's
• 38:47
  always
• 38:47
  interesting
• 38:48
  when
• 38:48
  I
• 38:48
  watch
• 38:48
  some
• 38:49
  of
• 38:49
  the
• 38:49
  maps
• 38:49
  out
• 38:49
  there
• 38:50
  and
• 38:50
  I'm
• 38:50
  not
• 38:50
  going
• 38:50
  to
• 38:50
  name
• 38:50
  any,
• 38:51
  but
• 38:51
  I
• 38:51
  see
• 38:52
  ones
• 38:52
  that
• 38:52
  are,
• 38:52
  this
• 38:53
  is
• 38:53
  red,
• 38:53
  this
• 38:53
  is
• 38:53
  orange,
• 38:54
  this
• 38:54
  is
• 38:54
  yellow.
• 38:55
  And
• 38:55
  in
• 38:55
  my
• 38:56
  area,
• 38:56
  I'm
• 38:56
  between
• 38:57
  the
• 38:58
  orange
• 38:59
  and
• 38:59
  red
• 38:59
  depending,
• 39:00
  and
• 39:00
  it's
• 39:00
  county
• 39:01
  by
• 39:01
  county,
• 39:01
  which
• 39:02
  doesn't
• 39:02
  really
• 39:02
  tell
• 39:03
  you
• 39:03
  much,
• 39:03
  but
• 39:04
  at
• 39:04
  least
• 39:04
  it
• 39:04
  says,
• 39:05
  hey,
• 39:05
  you
• 39:05
  should
• 39:05
  be
• 39:05
  testing
• 39:06
  in
• 39:06
  this
• 39:06
  area,
• 39:06
  but
• 39:07
  really
• 39:08
  everywhere
• 39:08
  you,
• 39:08
  you
• 39:09
  run
• 39:09
  a
• 39:09
  risk,
• 39:09
  don't
• 39:10
  you?
• 39:10
  At
• 39:10
  least
• 39:10
  that's
• 39:10
  my
• 39:11
  opinion.
• 39:11
  I'm
• 39:11
  curious
• 39:11
  to
• 39:11
  see
• 39:12
  what
• 39:12
  your
• 39:12
  professional
• 39:12
  opinion.
• 39:13
  Yeah,
• 39:13
  that's
• 39:13
  a
• 39:14
  good
• 39:14
  point,
• 39:14
  Eric.
• 39:15
  The
• 39:15
  EPA
• 39:16
  zone
• 39:16
  map,
• 39:16
  for
• 39:16
  example,
• 39:17
  came
• 39:17
  out
• 39:17
  in
• 39:18
  1992,
• 39:19
  and
• 39:20
  it's
• 39:20
  still
• 39:20
  out
• 39:20
  there
• 39:21
  for
• 39:21
  everybody
• 39:21
  to
• 39:22
  look
• 39:22
  at.
• 39:23
  Unfortunately,
• 39:23
  they
• 39:23
  didn't
• 39:24
  have
• 39:24
  a
• 39:24
  lot
• 39:24
  of
• 39:24
  radon
• 39:25
  test
• 39:25
  data
• 39:25
  at
• 39:25
  the
• 39:25
  time,
• 39:26
  so
• 39:26
  they
• 39:27
  used
• 39:27
  an
• 39:27
  algorithm
• 39:28
  that
• 39:28
  included
• 39:30
  a
• 39:30
  lot
• 39:30
  of
• 39:30
  factors,
• 39:31
  not
• 39:31
  just
• 39:31
  radon
• 39:32
  data.
• 39:33
  It
• 39:33
  included
• 39:34
  housing
• 39:34
  types,
• 39:35
  it
• 39:35
  included
• 39:36
  aerial
• 39:37
  radiation
• 39:38
  mapping
• 39:39
  like
• 39:39
  the
• 39:39
  military
• 39:40
  does
• 39:40
  when
• 39:40
  they
• 39:40
  just
• 39:41
  fly
• 39:41
  over
• 39:41
  and
• 39:42
  measured
• 39:42
  the
• 39:42
  radiation
• 39:43
  coming
• 39:43
  off
• 39:43
  the
• 39:44
  ground.
• 39:44
  It
• 39:45
  included
• 39:46
  multiple
• 39:46
  factors
• 39:47
  that
• 39:47
  they
• 39:47
  put
• 39:48
  into
• 39:48
  this
• 39:48
  formula
• 39:49
  to
• 39:49
  help
• 39:50
  predict
• 39:51
  where
• 39:52
  it
• 39:52
  would
• 39:53
  be
• 39:54
  most
• 39:54
  likely
• 39:55
  to
• 39:55
  have
• 39:55
  elevated
• 39:56
  radon
• 39:56
  concentrations
• 39:58
  over
• 39:58
  time.
• 39:58
  Now
• 39:59
  that
• 39:59
  we
• 39:59
  have
• 39:59
  so
• 40:00
  much
• 40:00
  more
• 40:00
  radon
• 40:01
  data
• 40:01
  than
• 40:01
  they
• 40:01
  did
• 40:01
  in
• 40:01
  1992,
• 40:02
  we've
• 40:02
  discovered
• 40:03
  that
• 40:03
  they
• 40:04
  did
• 40:04
  a
• 40:04
  reasonable
• 40:05
  job
• 40:05
  with
• 40:06
  the
• 40:06
  information
• 40:06
  they
• 40:06
  had.
• 40:07
  But
• 40:08
  there
• 40:08
  are
• 40:08
  exceptions.
• 40:09
  And
• 40:10
  even
• 40:10
  if.
• 40:11
  Even
• 40:11
  with
• 40:12
  that
• 40:12
  map,
• 40:12
  if
• 40:13
  you
• 40:13
  look
• 40:13
  at
• 40:13
  the
• 40:13
  fine
• 40:14
  print
• 40:14
  at
• 40:14
  the
• 40:14
  bottom,
• 40:14
  it
• 40:15
  says
• 40:16
  that
• 40:16
  the
• 40:16
  map
• 40:16
  was
• 40:17
  not
• 40:17
  intended
• 40:18
  for
• 40:18
  you
• 40:19
  to
• 40:19
  decide
• 40:19
  whether
• 40:20
  or
• 40:20
  not
• 40:20
  you
• 40:21
  should
• 40:21
  test.
• 40:22
  It
• 40:22
  was
• 40:23
  intended
• 40:23
  to
• 40:23
  help
• 40:24
  focus
• 40:25
  resources
• 40:26
  to
• 40:26
  the
• 40:26
  areas
• 40:27
  of
• 40:28
  most
• 40:28
  concern
• 40:29
  first
• 40:30
  and
• 40:30
  then
• 40:31
  work
• 40:31
  their
• 40:31
  way
• 40:31
  down.
• 40:32
  One
• 40:32
  of
• 40:32
  the
• 40:33
  things
• 40:33
  that's
• 40:33
  happened
• 40:33
  in
• 40:34
  recent
• 40:34
  years,
• 40:34
  Starting
• 40:35
  in
• 40:35
  around
• 40:36
  2018,
• 40:37
  housing
• 40:38
  and
• 40:38
  urban
• 40:38
  development
• 40:39
  and
• 40:40
  began
• 40:40
  to
• 40:41
  require
• 40:41
  radon
• 40:42
  testing
• 40:42
  in
• 40:42
  multifamily
• 40:44
  properties
• 40:44
  that
• 40:45
  were
• 40:45
  being
• 40:46
  financed
• 40:47
  through
• 40:48
  FHA
• 40:50
  mortgage
• 40:50
  program.
• 40:51
  And
• 40:53
  they
• 40:53
  did
• 40:53
  away
• 40:54
  with
• 40:54
  the
• 40:54
  zone
• 40:55
  map
• 40:55
  distinctions
• 40:56
  and
• 40:56
  said,
• 40:57
  okay,
• 40:57
  we
• 40:57
  need
• 40:57
  to
• 40:58
  do
• 40:58
  this
• 40:58
  anywhere,
• 40:59
  because
• 40:59
  an
• 40:59
  elevated
• 41:00
  concentration
• 41:00
  could
• 41:01
  show
• 41:01
  up.
• 41:02
  And
• 41:02
  there
• 41:02
  are
• 41:02
  states
• 41:03
  that,
• 41:03
  if
• 41:03
  you
• 41:03
  look
• 41:04
  at
• 41:04
  that
• 41:04
  map,
• 41:05
  are
• 41:05
  not
• 41:06
  red
• 41:06
  and
• 41:07
  orange,
• 41:07
  they're
• 41:07
  more
• 41:07
  of
• 41:08
  that
• 41:08
  yellow
• 41:08
  area
• 41:09
  like
• 41:09
  Texas
• 41:09
  and
• 41:10
  California.
• 41:11
  And
• 41:11
  yet
• 41:12
  now
• 41:12
  they've
• 41:13
  been
• 41:13
  testing
• 41:13
  these
• 41:13
  multifamily
• 41:14
  projects
• 41:15
  and.
• 41:15
  And
• 41:16
  guess
• 41:16
  what?
• 41:16
  They're
• 41:17
  finding
• 41:17
  radon
• 41:18
  in
• 41:18
  Texas
• 41:18
  and
• 41:19
  California.
• 41:20
  It's
• 41:20
  real
• 41:20
  easy
• 41:20
  to
• 41:21
  say
• 41:21
  there's
• 41:21
  no
• 41:21
  radon
• 41:22
  in
• 41:22
  certain
• 41:22
  areas
• 41:22
  when
• 41:23
  there
• 41:23
  are
• 41:23
  no
• 41:23
  tests
• 41:24
  going
• 41:24
  on.
• 41:25
  Once
• 41:25
  you
• 41:25
  start
• 41:25
  testing,
• 41:26
  you
• 41:26
  find
• 41:27
  buildings
• 41:28
  and
• 41:28
  residences
• 41:29
  that
• 41:29
  are
• 41:30
  elevated.
• 41:30
  The
• 41:31
  only
• 41:31
  way
• 41:31
  to
• 41:32
  know
• 41:32
  is
• 41:32
  to
• 41:32
  test.
• 41:33
  Yeah,
• 41:34
  just
• 41:34
  a
• 41:34
  year
• 41:35
  ago,
• 41:35
  here
• 41:36
  in
• 41:36
  my
• 41:36
  metro
• 41:37
  area,
• 41:37
  here
• 41:37
  in.
• 41:38
  In
• 41:38
  the
• 41:38
  Portland
• 41:39
  metro
• 41:39
  area,
• 41:39
  we
• 41:39
  had
• 41:39
  a
• 41:40
  fire
• 41:40
  department
• 41:40
  that
• 41:41
  had
• 41:41
  to
• 41:41
  close
• 41:41
  because
• 41:41
  of
• 41:42
  extreme
• 41:43
  radon
• 41:44
  that
• 41:44
  was
• 41:44
  in
• 41:45
  the
• 41:45
  fire
• 41:45
  department
• 41:45
  because
• 41:46
  they
• 41:46
  tested
• 41:46
  it.
• 41:47
  Yeah,
• 41:48
  there
• 41:48
  have
• 41:48
  been.
• 41:49
  There
• 41:49
  was
• 41:49
  a
• 41:49
  prison
• 41:50
  up
• 41:50
  in
• 41:50
  the
• 41:50
  Northeast
• 41:50
  that
• 41:51
  they
• 41:51
  discovered
• 41:52
  that
• 41:52
  all
• 41:52
  the
• 41:52
  inmates
• 41:53
  were
• 41:54
  on
• 41:54
  the
• 41:54
  ground
• 41:54
  level,
• 41:55
  were
• 41:55
  getting
• 41:55
  exposed
• 41:56
  to
• 41:56
  some
• 41:56
  very
• 41:56
  high
• 41:57
  concentrations
• 41:57
  of
• 41:58
  radon.
• 41:59
  So
• 41:59
  the
• 41:59
  more
• 42:00
  you
• 42:00
  look
• 42:00
  for
• 42:00
  it,
• 42:00
  the
• 42:00
  more
• 42:00
  you're
• 42:01
  going
• 42:01
  to
• 42:01
  find.
• 42:02
  The
• 42:02
  good
• 42:03
  news
• 42:03
  is
• 42:04
  it's
• 42:04
  easy
• 42:05
  and
• 42:05
  for
• 42:06
  the
• 42:06
  most
• 42:06
  part,
• 42:07
  and
• 42:07
  fairly
• 42:07
  inexpensive
• 42:08
  to
• 42:08
  mitigate.
• 42:10
  And
• 42:10
  as
• 42:11
  long
• 42:11
  as
• 42:11
  you
• 42:11
  mitigate
• 42:12
  and
• 42:12
  then
• 42:12
  keep
• 42:12
  an
• 42:12
  eye
• 42:12
  on
• 42:13
  that
• 42:13
  mitigation
• 42:13
  to
• 42:13
  make
• 42:14
  sure
• 42:14
  it
• 42:14
  continues
• 42:14
  to
• 42:14
  work,
• 42:15
  then
• 42:16
  that's
• 42:16
  one
• 42:18
  of
• 42:18
  the
• 42:18
  health
• 42:19
  concerns
• 42:19
  that
• 42:20
  you
• 42:20
  just
• 42:20
  don't
• 42:21
  need
• 42:21
  to
• 42:21
  worry
• 42:21
  about
• 42:21
  anymore.
• 42:22
  You've
• 42:22
  got
• 42:22
  it
• 42:22
  under
• 42:23
  control
• 42:23
  and
• 42:23
  you're
• 42:23
  keeping
• 42:24
  an
• 42:24
  eye
• 42:24
  on
• 42:24
  it.
• 42:25
  In
• 42:25
  some
• 42:25
  areas
• 42:25
  of
• 42:26
  the
• 42:26
  country,
• 42:27
  it
• 42:27
  could
• 42:27
  be
• 42:28
  that
• 42:28
  way,
• 42:28
  perhaps
• 42:29
  in
• 42:29
  Oregon.
• 42:29
  I
• 42:30
  know
• 42:30
  it's
• 42:30
  that
• 42:30
  way.
• 42:30
  Here
• 42:30
  in
• 42:31
  the
• 42:31
  Southeast,
• 42:32
  we've
• 42:33
  got
• 42:34
  a
• 42:34
  humid
• 42:35
  climate
• 42:36
  in
• 42:36
  the
• 42:38
  summer,
• 42:38
  for
• 42:38
  example,
• 42:39
  and
• 42:40
  a
• 42:41
  lot
• 42:41
  of
• 42:41
  lower
• 42:42
  levels.
• 42:42
  Whether
• 42:42
  It's
• 42:43
  a
• 42:43
  basement
• 42:44
  or
• 42:44
  over
• 42:45
  a
• 42:45
  crawl
• 42:45
  space
• 42:45
  or
• 42:46
  even
• 42:46
  slab
• 42:47
  on
• 42:47
  grade.
• 42:48
  You're
• 42:48
  getting
• 42:48
  moisture
• 42:49
  coming
• 42:49
  in
• 42:49
  from
• 42:50
  the
• 42:50
  soil
• 42:50
  as
• 42:50
  well
• 42:51
  that
• 42:52
  can
• 42:52
  contribute
• 42:52
  to
• 42:52
  that
• 42:53
  indoor
• 42:53
  humidity.
• 42:54
  And
• 42:55
  the
• 42:55
  soil
• 42:55
  depressurization
• 42:56
  systems
• 42:57
  not
• 42:58
  only
• 42:58
  can
• 42:58
  keep
• 42:58
  the
• 42:59
  radon
• 42:59
  from
• 42:59
  entering,
• 43:00
  they'll
• 43:00
  keep
• 43:00
  that
• 43:01
  moisture
• 43:01
  and
• 43:01
  other
• 43:01
  soil
• 43:02
  gases
• 43:03
  from
• 43:03
  entering
• 43:04
  the
• 43:04
  home.
• 43:05
  The
• 43:05
  technology
• 43:06
  that
• 43:06
  we
• 43:06
  use
• 43:07
  for
• 43:07
  radon
• 43:07
  mitigation
• 43:08
  is
• 43:08
  being
• 43:09
  used
• 43:10
  all
• 43:10
  over
• 43:11
  the
• 43:11
  country
• 43:11
  now,
• 43:12
  actually
• 43:12
  all
• 43:12
  over
• 43:13
  the
• 43:13
  world
• 43:13
  for
• 43:14
  vapor
• 43:14
  intrusion
• 43:15
  mitigation
• 43:15
  for
• 43:16
  chemical
• 43:17
  vapors.
• 43:18
  It's
• 43:18
  the
• 43:18
  same
• 43:19
  exact
• 43:19
  technology.
• 43:20
  They're
• 43:20
  putting
• 43:21
  it
• 43:21
  in
• 43:21
  large
• 43:22
  buildings
• 43:23
  from
• 43:23
  the
• 43:23
  very
• 43:23
  beginning
• 43:24
  when
• 43:24
  they
• 43:24
  built
• 43:24
  construct
• 43:25
  them
• 43:25
  on
• 43:25
  these
• 43:25
  sites
• 43:26
  that
• 43:26
  were.
• 43:27
  Perhaps
• 43:27
  they
• 43:27
  were
• 43:28
  gas
• 43:28
  stations
• 43:28
  at
• 43:29
  one
• 43:29
  time,
• 43:29
  or
• 43:30
  they
• 43:30
  manufactured
• 43:32
  various
• 43:32
  things.
• 43:34
  Just
• 43:34
  right
• 43:34
  up
• 43:34
  from
• 43:34
  me.
• 43:34
  There's
• 43:35
  an
• 43:36
  old
• 43:36
  General
• 43:36
  Motors
• 43:37
  assembly
• 43:38
  plant
• 43:38
  that
• 43:39
  sat
• 43:39
  empty
• 43:40
  for
• 43:40
  a
• 43:40
  long
• 43:40
  time
• 43:40
  because
• 43:41
  they
• 43:41
  didn't
• 43:41
  know
• 43:41
  they
• 43:41
  could
• 43:42
  build
• 43:42
  anything
• 43:42
  on
• 43:42
  it
• 43:43
  because
• 43:43
  it
• 43:43
  was
• 43:43
  such
• 43:44
  a
• 43:44
  contaminated
• 43:44
  site.
• 43:45
  They
• 43:45
  finally
• 43:46
  cleared
• 43:46
  everything
• 43:46
  off
• 43:47
  and
• 43:47
  they
• 43:47
  installed
• 43:48
  the
• 43:48
  soil
• 43:49
  depressurization
• 43:50
  systems
• 43:50
  in
• 43:50
  all
• 43:51
  the
• 43:51
  buildings
• 43:52
  to
• 43:52
  prevent
• 43:52
  vapors
• 43:53
  from
• 43:53
  coming
• 43:53
  in.
• 43:54
  And
• 43:54
  now
• 43:54
  it's
• 43:55
  become
• 43:55
  a
• 43:55
  large
• 43:56
  movie
• 43:56
  studio
• 43:57
  set.
• 43:58
  All
• 43:58
  right,
• 43:58
  I
• 43:58
  know
• 43:58
  which
• 43:59
  one
• 43:59
  you're
• 43:59
  talking
• 43:59
  about.
• 44:00
  Yeah,
• 44:00
  very
• 44:00
  cool.
• 44:01
  Exactly.
• 44:01
  And
• 44:02
  that's
• 44:02
  amazing.
• 44:02
  And
• 44:02
  I'm
• 44:03
  seeing
• 44:03
  that
• 44:03
  more.
• 44:04
  And
• 44:04
  I
• 44:04
  wish
• 44:04
  we
• 44:05
  could
• 44:05
  could
• 44:05
  get
• 44:05
  the
• 44:05
  new
• 44:06
  construction
• 44:06
  building
• 44:07
  community
• 44:07
  out
• 44:08
  there
• 44:08
  to
• 44:09
  think
• 44:09
  about
• 44:09
  prepping
• 44:10
  the
• 44:10
  ground
• 44:10
  before
• 44:11
  they
• 44:12
  pour
• 44:12
  that
• 44:12
  slab
• 44:12
  on.
• 44:13
  Great.
• 44:13
  I
• 44:13
  watch
• 44:13
  in
• 44:14
  Phoenix,
• 44:14
  for
• 44:14
  instance,
• 44:15
  I
• 44:15
  had
• 44:15
  a
• 44:15
  buddy
• 44:15
  that
• 44:16
  I
• 44:16
  worked
• 44:16
  with
• 44:16
  in
• 44:16
  the
• 44:16
  radio
• 44:17
  industry.
• 44:18
  He
• 44:18
  built
• 44:18
  a
• 44:18
  house
• 44:19
  down
• 44:19
  there.
• 44:19
  And
• 44:20
  he's
• 44:20
  up,
• 44:21
  concrete's
• 44:22
  pouring,
• 44:22
  and
• 44:22
  the
• 44:22
  truck's
• 44:23
  there,
• 44:23
  and
• 44:23
  they're
• 44:23
  pouring
• 44:23
  right
• 44:24
  over
• 44:24
  the
• 44:24
  top
• 44:25
  of
• 44:25
  the
• 44:25
  desert
• 44:26
  earth.
• 44:26
  And
• 44:26
  it's
• 44:27
  just
• 44:27
  what
• 44:27
  they
• 44:27
  do
• 44:28
  there.
• 44:28
  That
• 44:28
  is
• 44:28
  the
• 44:28
  common
• 44:29
  practice.
• 44:30
  But
• 44:30
  in
• 44:30
  my
• 44:30
  head,
• 44:30
  I'm
• 44:31
  going
• 44:31
  to.
• 44:32
  That's
• 44:32
  gonna
• 44:32
  be
• 44:32
  pretty
• 44:32
  tough
• 44:32
  to
• 44:33
  mitigate
• 44:33
  that
• 44:34
  because
• 44:34
  it's
• 44:34
  a
• 44:34
  slab
• 44:34
  on
• 44:35
  grade
• 44:35
  and
• 44:36
  just
• 44:37
  a
• 44:37
  mono
• 44:37
  pour.
• 44:38
  And
• 44:38
  I'm
• 44:38
  like,
• 44:38
  that's
• 44:39
  really
• 44:39
  not
• 44:39
  gonna.
• 44:40
  Really
• 44:40
  not
• 44:40
  gonna
• 44:41
  give
• 44:41
  you
• 44:41
  a
• 44:41
  lot
• 44:41
  of
• 44:41
  options
• 44:42
  if
• 44:42
  you
• 44:42
  had
• 44:42
  an
• 44:43
  issue
• 44:43
  down
• 44:43
  the
• 44:43
  road.
• 44:44
  There
• 44:44
  was.
• 44:44
  There
• 44:45
  were.
• 44:45
  There
• 44:45
  was
• 44:45
  a
• 44:46
  time
• 44:46
  when
• 44:46
  we
• 44:46
  thought
• 44:46
  that
• 44:47
  the
• 44:47
  best
• 44:47
  thing
• 44:47
  to
• 44:48
  do
• 44:48
  was
• 44:48
  to
• 44:48
  put
• 44:48
  gravel
• 44:49
  underneath
• 44:49
  the
• 44:49
  slab.
• 44:50
  And
• 44:50
  that's
• 44:50
  still
• 44:50
  a
• 44:51
  great
• 44:51
  idea.
• 44:51
  And
• 44:52
  to
• 44:52
  make
• 44:52
  sure
• 44:52
  that
• 44:52
  you've
• 44:53
  got
• 44:53
  some
• 44:53
  connection
• 44:53
  between
• 44:54
  any
• 44:54
  footings
• 44:55
  from
• 44:55
  one
• 44:56
  section
• 44:56
  to
• 44:56
  the
• 44:56
  next
• 44:57
  where
• 44:57
  you
• 44:57
  can
• 44:57
  draw
• 44:58
  air
• 44:59
  across
• 44:59
  the
• 45:00
  footprint
• 45:01
  with
• 45:01
  your
• 45:01
  suction.
• 45:02
  There
• 45:02
  are
• 45:02
  sites
• 45:03
  where
• 45:03
  they're
• 45:03
  putting
• 45:03
  these
• 45:04
  systems
• 45:04
  in
• 45:05
  and
• 45:05
  then
• 45:05
  they're
• 45:06
  testing
• 45:07
  the
• 45:07
  building
• 45:07
  after.
• 45:08
  And
• 45:09
  if
• 45:09
  they
• 45:10
  need
• 45:10
  to,
• 45:10
  then
• 45:10
  they
• 45:10
  activate
• 45:11
  the
• 45:11
  systems
• 45:11
  by
• 45:12
  putting
• 45:12
  in
• 45:12
  line
• 45:12
  fans
• 45:13
  and
• 45:13
  all
• 45:13
  that's
• 45:14
  good.
• 45:14
  Make
• 45:14
  sure
• 45:15
  you
• 45:15
  head
• 45:15
