- 1:51Speaker 3: Welcome, my dear friend and brother from a mother Larry
- 1:55Speaker 3: Drew Junior.
- 1:56Speaker 6: Welcome.
- 1:58Speaker 1: He's probably one to call these intro I've ever had.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Would you like it? That was great? Yeah, I appreciate you.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Glad to be Glad to be well. Look, I'm I
- 2:06Speaker 1: just want to give your flowers for a second, because
- 2:08Speaker 1: you know, we are a family. We go back, so
- 2:10Speaker 1: it's like this is, you know, super important for me
- 2:13Speaker 1: to be here so support, but then also just knowing,
- 2:15Speaker 1: like you know, love anything I can do to help you,
- 2:19Speaker 1: anything I can do, it's always.
- 2:21Speaker 3: I So we we just recently moved our studio from
- 2:26Speaker 3: Atlanta to l A And you were the first person
- 2:28Speaker 3: I thought.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Literally, I remember when you told me that you were
- 2:31Speaker 1: getting ready to start doing the podcast you're trying to
- 2:33Speaker 1: give you on last season.
- 2:35Speaker 5: But you know, yeah, La, she definitely was bringing you
- 2:38Speaker 5: up in the beginning.
- 2:40Speaker 1: First, I'm glad we got to make it happen.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I can't wait to get because when I say, we
- 2:43Speaker 3: go way back, like we go way back. Our moms
- 2:47Speaker 3: are pregnant at the same time, our dads played together
- 2:50Speaker 3: sacramental right.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah, in Kansas Kings. I remember at one point I
- 2:55Speaker 1: want to say, they were like flip flop for or
- 2:59Speaker 1: they they play. They definitely played to I forgot how
- 3:04Speaker 1: they ended up not being on the same team. But
- 3:07Speaker 1: by the time I was born and we were born, Yeah,
- 3:10Speaker 1: like I said, it was it was like family.
- 3:13Speaker 4: You know what, we used to terrorize school, locker room,
- 3:18Speaker 4: the street.
- 3:18Speaker 1: This is all before like social media, Internet, Yeah, it was.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It was right before the inn, so families. I think
- 3:28Speaker 1: back then too, it was just a little bit more
- 3:30Speaker 1: personable with how they were looking to go about just
- 3:34Speaker 1: even speaking on like you know, obviously they were not
- 3:36Speaker 1: blood related, but yeah, my whole life growing up, I
- 3:38Speaker 1: legit thought we thought, which is in some way, shape
- 3:41Speaker 1: or form. Yeah, you know it carries forth even to
- 3:45Speaker 1: this day.
- 3:46Speaker 3: So yeah, no, So we want we want you here
- 3:49Speaker 3: just to tell your story because you have a unique
- 3:52Speaker 3: experience being the son of an NBA coach, NBA player,
- 3:56Speaker 3: and then you also pursued basketball I did at at
- 4:00Speaker 3: the highest level, pursued in college, your top recruit. So
- 4:02Speaker 3: we want to get into just your journey of growing
- 4:07Speaker 3: up in it and transitioning from basketball into the real
- 4:11Speaker 3: world and just the pressure and the expectations that you faced.
- 4:14Speaker 3: But first I want to ask you what was your
- 4:18Speaker 3: earliest memory of being Larry's juic senior son. So, like,
- 4:22Speaker 3: what was that moment you had where you were like, oh, shoot,
- 4:24Speaker 3: Dad is a is a NBA player, Like this is
- 4:27Speaker 3: pretty cool.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Honestly, it really it wasn't just any one moment. I
- 4:32Speaker 1: mean outside of I think when I just started to
- 4:36Speaker 1: recognize a little bit more about like his influence even
- 4:40Speaker 1: like within the organization with the Lakers, And it was
- 4:42Speaker 1: when he used to come home and talk about being
- 4:45Speaker 1: involved with this recruiting trip or like this project so
- 4:51Speaker 1: to speak with like he was looking at Kobe right,
- 4:53Speaker 1: he was part of the whole you know, should we
- 4:56Speaker 1: you know, bring in this kid and get rid of
- 4:58Speaker 1: you know, some of these superstars on a team. But
- 5:02Speaker 1: you know, he used to be in the kitchen, used
- 5:04Speaker 1: to talk, you know, on the phone. You know to
- 5:07Speaker 1: whoever you know Laker execs. And I remember one time
- 5:10Speaker 1: being in the kitchen just hearing the excitement that he
- 5:12Speaker 1: had in his voice because I think he just went
- 5:15Speaker 1: in and watched Kobe work out, maybe against Eddie Jones,
- 5:18Speaker 1: went wow, and the things that he was saying that
- 5:21Speaker 1: Kobe had done to him and then one on one
- 5:23Speaker 1: you know what was you know what I mean? So yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I think too, just like again then obviously like witnessing
- 5:35Speaker 1: Kobe's legacy. Yeah, thinking back like d you know I was.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I remember my dad legit, like having these conversations with me,
- 5:42Speaker 1: like son is his kid, He's coming to the league,
- 5:45Speaker 1: Like we got a chance to get him, and I
- 5:47Speaker 1: think we're gonna pull some triggers. I'm like, you're like, okay,
- 5:50Speaker 1: I'm six years old. You know how old are you? Six?
- 5:55Speaker 1: But yeah, you know, just having the opportunity I think
- 5:59Speaker 1: to like experience first him, you know, the inner workings
- 6:04Speaker 1: of these teams or organizations. And again it wasn't It
- 6:07Speaker 1: wasn't really until like like my birthday, right, so I
- 6:11Speaker 1: would I go to school, I would have like a
- 6:13Speaker 1: birthday party.
- 6:14Speaker 7: Cool.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I want to say it was maybe my fourth and
- 6:17Speaker 1: my fifth party I had. It was at Corbin Bowl
- 6:21Speaker 1: Shot can and yeah, shot came to my party and
- 6:29Speaker 1: it was funny. So like again, this when I realized
- 6:32Speaker 1: my dad was like, you know, I was poor, so
- 6:36Speaker 1: like some of my friends in my class, it was
- 6:40Speaker 1: kind of like, you know, I'm starting to learn kind
- 6:42Speaker 1: of you know, hey, I'll be your friend if you
- 6:44Speaker 1: do this for me. Hey listen, yeah, you know what
- 6:46Speaker 1: I mean to try to like, you know, just like
- 6:48Speaker 1: little manipulation like kids do. And then so with the
- 6:54Speaker 1: whole shock thing, it made me realize like, oh, I
- 6:57Speaker 1: can start to leverage some of some of these opportunities
- 7:00Speaker 1: that I have, some of these events or experiences that
- 7:02Speaker 1: I may be throwing on my own, and then I
- 7:04Speaker 1: can either include or not include you. But this is
- 7:07Speaker 1: all made possible because of my pops. That's when I
- 7:09Speaker 1: started to realize, like, oh, it's not just like a
- 7:12Speaker 1: normal situation. So if somebody does something to me, I know,
- 7:17Speaker 1: you probably want some Lakers tickets, you probably might want
- 7:19Speaker 1: some Lakers year or whatever. And it's like I'm not
- 7:22Speaker 1: just out here like trading you know, paraphernalia for favors
- 7:26Speaker 1: or for friendships. But don't get on my bas you know.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And then I was also good in basketball, so I
- 7:33Speaker 1: had playing some some pull on my own, you know.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So it's just like, all right, I got skills, thanks Pops.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Or I can leverage some of these you know things.
- 7:42Speaker 3: So was that your So your dad introducing Kobe to
- 7:45Speaker 3: you at six years old?
- 7:47Speaker 4: Did that spark your your dream?
- 7:49Speaker 1: That's when the next Dad's I think when again, I
- 7:56Speaker 1: think it all starts to make sense to me. Just again,
- 7:59Speaker 1: like how how involved he was within the process, within
- 8:04Speaker 1: the organization.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Okay.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And then, like I said, so then once they brought
- 8:08Speaker 1: Kobe onto the team, because I've been hearing these stories,
- 8:11Speaker 1: you know, seeing my dad's excitement. I remember going to
- 8:16Speaker 1: Summer League ninety six, ninety seven. It was at Long Beach,
- 8:21Speaker 1: the U Pyramid, Okay, yep, And it was my first
- 8:24Speaker 1: time going to a summer league. I didn't even I
- 8:27Speaker 1: wasn't aware of NBA Summer League.
- 8:28Speaker 4: A you're what's still you're what's seven?
- 8:30Speaker 1: Six years old?
- 8:31Speaker 8: Seven?
- 8:31Speaker 4: Okay?
- 8:33Speaker 1: So again it's my first time experiencing summer league.
- 8:37Speaker 8: Uh.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And then so we go out to Long Beach and
- 8:39Speaker 1: again it's not the real it's not the actual season.
- 8:42Speaker 1: It's summer League. So I'm still I'm kind of confused.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I'm like, where what are we doing?
- 8:45Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 8:46Speaker 1: My dad is like, oh, we're going to a game.
- 8:47Speaker 1: So summer league game. So we get to this game
- 8:50Speaker 1: and it's packed sold out, like at this college arena.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Everybody's here to see Kobe, right, And again that's when
- 8:57Speaker 1: I started to realize, like, okay, he was. He was
- 8:59Speaker 1: talking about the kind of impact he was going to
- 9:01Speaker 1: have and seeing it. He bought out that game too.
- 9:05Speaker 4: There was just enter the league at summer league. You
- 9:10Speaker 4: were at the game.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I remember, Yeah. I remember going to a couple of
- 9:14Speaker 1: practices to his rookie year and having just you know,
- 9:20Speaker 1: I'm a kid, I'm curious, right, and I'm looking up
- 9:23Speaker 1: at him. I remember my dad kind of telling me too,
- 9:25Speaker 1: like he's a kid. He's a kid, And I'm like,
- 9:27Speaker 1: this is one of the biggest kids I've ever seen.
- 9:29Speaker 1: They talk about him like he's a kid, right, So
- 9:32Speaker 1: let me go see what this you know? Hey, hey friend? Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 1: So I go talk to him. He was super, super humble.
- 9:41Speaker 1: He talked to me like I was like I wasn't
- 9:43Speaker 1: a kid for real, just asking me questions, who were you,
- 9:46Speaker 1: what do you like to do or you think you
- 9:47Speaker 1: can play, so then he'll get on the course, show
- 9:49Speaker 1: me a couple of things. Before you know it, we
- 9:51Speaker 1: just you know, we're just out there. But I would
- 9:53Speaker 1: have moments like these, memories like these again and trying
- 9:57Speaker 1: to correlate it all to you know, my bring like
- 10:00Speaker 1: how does this like what do these insights you know
- 10:04Speaker 1: mean for real? Ultimately, again, it's just like having thinking,
- 10:09Speaker 1: just the ability to have these types of insights experiences.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It's really not until time progresses and you know, yeah,
- 10:16Speaker 1: you're a little bit later on in life did you
- 10:18Speaker 1: start to I think value a little bit more importantly. Yeah,
- 10:22Speaker 1: because again when you're a kid, you don't.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Really you know, it doesn't click yet, like what you're
- 10:27Speaker 3: being exposed to exactly Exactay, So.
- 10:30Speaker 4: So at what age would you say?
- 10:31Speaker 2: So?
- 10:31Speaker 4: Six? At six years old? You mean one of the
- 10:34Speaker 4: most iconic sports.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Figures ever, he's like my idol.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 3: So when So my question is, at what age did
- 10:42Speaker 3: you start like taking basketball seriously? And at what age
- 10:45Speaker 3: did you realize I can have a career in this To.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Be tald, it was never there was no age.
- 10:50Speaker 4: No, you're just from birth. Really, like I said, when
- 10:54Speaker 4: you came.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Here, I was just inundated with basketball. Yeah, okay, before
- 10:59Speaker 1: I e when and again it's probably my pops keeping
- 11:03Speaker 1: the ball in my hand and teaching me basics right,
- 11:05Speaker 1: how to just dribble, like you know, I had the
- 11:07Speaker 1: little tiny tight oops, so before I even was thinking
- 11:10Speaker 1: about the NBA of the league or just I'm just
- 11:13Speaker 1: having fun, right. Naturally took a liking to the game,
- 11:17Speaker 1: so it made it easier for my parents to you know,
- 11:19Speaker 1: continue put it in front, right. But soon yeah, like
- 11:24Speaker 1: I was good at it, so it did a lot
- 11:26Speaker 1: for my confidence on my self esteem, especially early on.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Why didn't you realize you were good at it? Like,
- 11:31Speaker 3: was it middle school? Was it elementary school?
- 11:34Speaker 4: You realized I.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Knew pretty much right away, Like it was only because
- 11:38Speaker 1: again it's like it's me being candid. So like I
- 11:42Speaker 1: would go to school in the valley, you know, I
- 11:45Speaker 1: went to private school, you know, white kids, what have you.
- 11:49Speaker 1: But my mom, she grew up in South Central so
- 11:52Speaker 1: after school she would take me over into the city
- 11:55Speaker 1: the hood, would you know, Crenshaw Ymca Rancho seeing a
- 12:00Speaker 1: good but I was always playing up too, you know,
- 12:03Speaker 1: so by the time I would get back over you know,
- 12:06Speaker 1: into my neighborhood, if you will. I'm playing, you know,
- 12:09Speaker 1: against kids in my grade. It's just like you know,
- 12:12Speaker 1: from preschool, kindergarten, first grade, I was so much better
- 12:15Speaker 1: than everybody that.
- 12:16Speaker 8: You know.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I didn't think much of it until I started to
- 12:20Speaker 1: again like recognize, like, oh, people are treating me different
- 12:23Speaker 1: because you know, all they want to pick me up
- 12:27Speaker 1: on your team to like capture the flag or like
- 12:29Speaker 1: cause I'm fast, because you know I can I can
- 12:32Speaker 1: jump high, right, what happened the ball?
- 12:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah, So I had like in one clothes, I had
- 12:38Speaker 1: like NBA socks and like makings gear, and you know,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I was you know, young slaggy, young slaggy kid on
- 12:43Speaker 1: the block. But ultimately, again like I didn't it wasn't
- 12:46Speaker 1: nothing I was thinking about, like, oh, I'm better than
- 12:49Speaker 1: this person, Like, you know, I want to go to
- 12:51Speaker 1: the NBA. You know, I really was just captivated by
- 12:55Speaker 1: the story of my childhood because I had such a
- 12:58Speaker 1: good childhood, right Like, I don't think my parents really
- 13:01Speaker 1: even really wanted me looking at the NBA thinking like, oh,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I gotta make it that, I gotta make it there.
- 13:06Speaker 1: It was like watch Satame Street, watch Barn you know,
- 13:09Speaker 1: go cause to the birthday parties, go play outside of
- 13:11Speaker 1: the park, go to you know, be a kid for
- 13:13Speaker 1: as long as you can, but you know you do
- 13:16Speaker 1: got to hang your hat somewhere on something. M And
- 13:19Speaker 1: my dad, he ll you know, he never pushed basketball.
- 13:21Speaker 1: It was always just leadership. Just be just be a
- 13:24Speaker 1: leader in whatever you do. Don't follow the crowd. You know,
- 13:27Speaker 1: if basketball is not what you want to do, I
- 13:29Speaker 1: might hear to forcemlow you. So okay, he definitely made
- 13:32Speaker 1: that a point too.
- 13:33Speaker 3: So it was gonna ask so, well, first was your
- 13:35Speaker 3: dream to become an NBA player? And how was it
- 13:39Speaker 3: when you are when you're realizing that you have game
- 13:43Speaker 3: and you can't play at the next level.
- 13:44Speaker 4: How was the dynamic between you and your dad? Did
- 13:46Speaker 4: you allow him to coach you?
- 13:48Speaker 8: Oh?
- 13:48Speaker 1: Yeah, how was Yeah? So again it's like the time aspect, right, Yeah,
- 13:53Speaker 1: so my dad was always dad. He was never really
- 13:57Speaker 1: a coach to coach go is what he does professionally,
- 14:02Speaker 1: So I know, like you know, and it wasn't until
- 14:05Speaker 1: I got a little bit older. I would have like
- 14:07Speaker 1: same workouts, right, or like my dad would come to
- 14:09Speaker 1: the school, or I'll have some of my friends come
- 14:11Speaker 1: to the house or we would meet somewhere to the gym,
- 14:14Speaker 1: and my dad would work it's out and I would
- 14:16Speaker 1: see the difference and how like when he talked, how
- 14:20Speaker 1: they would, you know what I'm saying, lock and lock
- 14:24Speaker 1: eyes like a teen he kind of thing. You know,
- 14:27Speaker 1: I might be a little bit more lack of days ago,
- 14:29Speaker 1: kind of goofing off or whatever. Because it's my dad,
- 14:30Speaker 1: I'm you know, yeah, and uh, you know enough scenario
- 14:35Speaker 1: situations like that, you just start to peep like, Okay,
- 14:38Speaker 1: my friends have a certain level of respect from my pops.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Mm I understand why, you know, and it it just
- 14:45Speaker 1: kind of started having me a think, like just become
- 14:47Speaker 1: a little bit more a weird.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Okay, So before we get into the pressure and the expectations,
- 14:52Speaker 3: what was the hardest part about growing up and playing
- 14:56Speaker 3: with a dad like Larry Drew Senior.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I think the hardest part is just I think too
- 15:02Speaker 1: maybe because in my case we have we have the
- 15:05Speaker 1: same name, So there is some pressure. Yeah, for sure,
- 15:08Speaker 1: you can't. You can't escape it. Shoes to fill, yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 1: in one way or another. It's never Honestly, I always
- 15:14Speaker 1: thought I was better than my pops. I always you know,
- 15:19Speaker 1: we used to play one on one all the time.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I used to really feel like I could take him
- 15:23Speaker 1: and beat him, and I was better than him, even
- 15:24Speaker 1: though he never used to let me win. Yeah, I
- 15:26Speaker 1: used to still feel like I was better than him.
- 15:28Speaker 1: But yeah, no, it was just there was always something
- 15:36Speaker 1: that you know, and he he he pretty much just
- 15:39Speaker 1: told me. He was like, looks like, I'm not here
- 15:42Speaker 1: to force you into this again. Yeah, I think too.
- 15:47Speaker 1: In part because of his upbringing, like growing up in
- 15:49Speaker 1: the Midwest and like you know, in his family, there
- 15:54Speaker 1: was really no other option for him. It was like
- 15:56Speaker 1: he was gonna, shoot, you really have any choice. Well,
- 16:01Speaker 1: a lot of a lot, a lot of a lot
- 16:03Speaker 1: of like my siblings on my dad's side, Gravitators was
- 16:06Speaker 1: a church so like that family in the church on
- 16:08Speaker 1: my dad's side back in like Kansas City. But he
- 16:12Speaker 1: was just athletic, knew he wanted to get out of
- 16:16Speaker 1: that environment and ultimately hang his hat on something that
- 16:21Speaker 1: you know, in a in a competitive way. So he
- 16:22Speaker 1: played baseball a lot growing up. He put he tried
- 16:25Speaker 1: to get me into baseball early, but I wasn't getting baseball.
- 16:28Speaker 1: But he loved baseball for sure, but then he used
- 16:32Speaker 1: to tell his story about and he did play basketball
- 16:37Speaker 1: at the same time he was playing baseball, but he
- 16:38Speaker 1: he had a love for baseball more than he had
- 16:40Speaker 1: for basketball. And then it wasn't until he was like,
- 16:44Speaker 1: I want to say, I forget this guy's named Darnell Valentine.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Probably he probably better around, but is this guy in
- 16:50Speaker 1: my dad's life that he some rival from around his
- 16:54Speaker 1: way back when he grew up. And he said, this
- 16:57Speaker 1: guy Darnell Valentine got the best of him in one
- 17:00Speaker 1: of the games and just like embarrass him. But he
- 17:03Speaker 1: was like he just he said that Physically his statue,
- 17:06Speaker 1: this guy Darnel Valentine, he was like his legs were
- 17:08Speaker 1: like so big. But he was like he was a
- 17:11Speaker 1: point guard, you know what I'm saying. So he was
- 17:12Speaker 1: like he could sit down on defense to like pick
- 17:15Speaker 1: him up full court and just made his life like,
- 17:18Speaker 1: you know, miserable in that game, in that moment, you know,
- 17:22Speaker 1: whatever it was. And my dad was like, that's when
- 17:25Speaker 1: I realized I needed legs like that, and I needed
- 17:29Speaker 1: to I needed to get on his level physically and
- 17:31Speaker 1: condition myself. He said. When he started to basically just
- 17:35Speaker 1: try and like condition and physically get in shape to
- 17:38Speaker 1: play at that level that whoever it was that he
- 17:42Speaker 1: competed against was that's when he saw his game and
- 17:47Speaker 1: he was like, all right, I can make a living
- 17:50Speaker 1: playing basketball.
- 17:51Speaker 8: Wow.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Wow.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Well that perfectly segues into just us talking a little
- 17:56Speaker 3: bit about your pressure and the expectations.
- 17:59Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Yeah, So you were one of.
- 18:02Speaker 6: The top high school recruits in the country and one
- 18:05Speaker 6: the John R.
- 18:06Speaker 5: Wooden High School Player of the Year award in two
- 18:10Speaker 5: uh in twenty eight, two thousand and eight.
- 18:11Speaker 6: I'm sorry, Yeah, what was the experience like that at
- 18:14Speaker 6: such a young age to have such an accomplishment, you know, it.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Was an honort for sure, y I honestly, I wasn't
- 18:26Speaker 1: even I I didn't even recognize the way to the
- 18:30Speaker 1: award to at at the time, right, because I think,
- 18:33Speaker 1: you know, at that time in my life coming out
- 18:37Speaker 1: of high school, I was very naive.
- 18:42Speaker 6: Just put it like that.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I I thought I knew more than I did, and
- 18:45Speaker 1: the things I probably should have been paying attention to
- 18:47Speaker 1: a little bit more back then, I wasn't. And in
- 18:52Speaker 1: my mind all I knew was, uh, you know, I'm
- 18:58Speaker 1: here now, I'm about to take this next step so
- 19:00Speaker 1: you know, I'm eighteen about to go to college. It's
- 19:04Speaker 1: not too many more levels in between. Yeah, where I'm
- 19:07Speaker 1: at now and where I'm trying to get to. Yeah,
- 19:09Speaker 1: So that was really all that I was looking at
- 19:12Speaker 1: in my mind was to say, like, you know, the
- 19:15Speaker 1: great for my resume so that these teams know, you know,
- 19:18Speaker 1: come drafts on who they getting. But like, you know,
- 19:20Speaker 1: it's just another word.
- 19:21Speaker 8: I guess.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that's kind of how I looked at it. But
- 19:24Speaker 1: I saw I remember the the ceremony. Shoot, it was
- 19:27Speaker 1: a Steph Curry got awarded, I think the same time.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Wow holiday, I think maybe it got any awards, So.
- 19:33Speaker 4: I know it's a very special award.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and it was special. It still is, like
- 19:37Speaker 1: you know, I still got the award, don't let me wrong.
- 19:39Speaker 1: But like I said, I was, I was just looking
- 19:43Speaker 1: at like all right, yeah this is cool, but like
- 19:45Speaker 1: what's next?
- 19:46Speaker 5: Like right, you know, So how was your process of
- 19:48Speaker 5: choosing where you would go next as far as you
- 19:51Speaker 5: know your education and where.
- 19:53Speaker 1: You wanted to play. So this is kind of why
- 19:55Speaker 1: I say I was a little naive, Okay, but and
- 20:04Speaker 1: this is not the reason why I was naive. I
- 20:05Speaker 1: had my parents involved heavily, and they they definitely helped
- 20:12Speaker 1: guide me through what I should be looking for, mkay,
- 20:16Speaker 1: knowing ultimately was gonna be my decision. But what what
- 20:21Speaker 1: ended up happening was so I I was actually recruited
- 20:25Speaker 1: by I think the the only school I didn't have
- 20:28Speaker 1: a a scholarship from that. I was like kind of
- 20:31Speaker 1: counting and just looking at and being like, alright, where's
- 20:34Speaker 1: this school. It's Duke. And we had a tournament in
- 20:38Speaker 1: North Carolina in my sophomore season. It was two thousand
- 20:41Speaker 1: and six. It's called the Glaxo Smith Cline Tournament, and
- 20:45Speaker 1: I had a had a decent tournament. And I remember
- 20:47Speaker 1: we're in the airport when my high school team about
- 20:50Speaker 1: to head back. We're checking our bags and then my coach,
- 20:55Speaker 1: you know, he's like, hey, Larry, like somebody's on the phone,
- 20:57Speaker 1: want to talk to you. It was Mike sochesky m
- 20:58Speaker 1: And he was like, you know, a sn like we
- 21:00Speaker 1: saw you at the tournament, you know, one of the
- 21:03Speaker 1: offer you a scholarship. And I told him on the
- 21:05Speaker 1: phone I wasn't interested, just.
- 21:09Speaker 9: Just because I was like, you have so many other
- 21:13Speaker 9: in my mind, you see what I'm saying but options
- 21:20Speaker 9: just because I was interested.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Now, yeah kind of thing. So looking back, so by
- 21:26Speaker 1: the time I did narrow down my choices, I narrowed
- 21:30Speaker 1: it down to three schools. Was UCLA Arizona in North Carolina.
- 21:33Speaker 1: And this is strictly off of Aura, like u c
- 21:39Speaker 1: l A is in my backyard. I love UCLA. I
- 21:41Speaker 1: used to go up there all the time, who you know,
- 21:44Speaker 1: knew the staff pretty well, and I just like the
- 21:48Speaker 1: idea of staying home too, you know, twitter G Arizona
- 21:52Speaker 1: wasn't that far away, but they had a very rich
- 21:54Speaker 1: tradition of of developing point guards and the you know,
- 22:00Speaker 1: I liked what the the schools about. And at that time,
- 22:02Speaker 1: so I was into astronomy and I had a really
- 22:04Speaker 1: cool astronomy department. So it was at and then Carolina
- 22:08Speaker 1: was actually the only school that I took my official
- 22:10Speaker 1: visit to. But it wasn't until I told UCLA that
- 22:18Speaker 1: I was getting ready to take my official visit to
- 22:20Speaker 1: North Carolina, I wanna say, two thousand and six, two
- 22:23Speaker 1: thousand seven. They kind of got a little nervous about
- 22:27Speaker 1: that and was like, well, nah, we don't think you
- 22:29Speaker 1: should go. You should probably just commit to us, right now,
- 22:33Speaker 1: and I was like, ah, I kind of wanna go
- 22:34Speaker 1: through the process. Yeah, she was out there and they
- 22:37Speaker 1: told me straight up there was like, okay, well if
- 22:38Speaker 1: you go on this trip where we're gonna basically rescind
- 22:41Speaker 1: your scholarship and get into to somebody else, yeah, and
- 22:44Speaker 1: I was like do it. Oh yeah. So, but I
- 22:48Speaker 1: was why I didn't end up going to UCLA first.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Then uh, I had a tournament in Arizona with Pump
- 22:55Speaker 1: and run uh Cacus Classy. I had a pretty good tournament.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I was scheduled to meet with Lou Olsen at the
- 23:03Speaker 1: time after the tournament to do a beneficial Arizona So
- 23:12Speaker 1: me and Brandon Jenny's were actually on the campus at
- 23:15Speaker 1: different parts of the campus getting shown around on the
- 23:17Speaker 1: same day, and by the time we both had our
- 23:20Speaker 1: conversations with Loot, which were at different times. By the
- 23:23Speaker 1: time I had my conversation with Lout, he was like,
- 23:27Speaker 1: I told Brandon the same thing. We had two scholarships available.
- 23:31Speaker 1: We love both of you, but we understand that both
- 23:34Speaker 1: of y'all probably wouldn't you know, work with one of you.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Know what I'm saying, the same position, the same type
- 23:39Speaker 1: of deal. So he was like, whoever commits first, it's
- 23:42Speaker 1: kind of a thing. And I was like, okay, cool.
- 23:47Speaker 1: The pressure, I know, it was interesting again, like just
- 23:52Speaker 1: negotiation tactics oder than me.
- 23:56Speaker 4: You're you're looking at it from a wise perspective.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I'm like, well yeah, So I was like okay, cool,
- 24:00Speaker 1: and you know, I like have some convos with my parents.
- 24:03Speaker 1: They're like, all right, well you see what happened when
- 24:05Speaker 1: you see LA, Like, you know, if you want to
- 24:07Speaker 1: jump on this right, jump on it. And I was like, okay,
- 24:10Speaker 1: you know, you know me say how I feel tomorrow
- 24:11Speaker 1: about it. Brandon Landy back in LA. He ended up
- 24:17Speaker 1: calling coach Olson committing and you know, having disgusted already
- 24:23Speaker 1: with my parents and they were like, all right, you know,
- 24:24Speaker 1: you should probably make a decision if there's something you're
- 24:27Speaker 1: gonna do, just because of how you know, y'all got
- 24:29Speaker 1: too many options, like after you the narrative down to
- 24:32Speaker 1: these three. So once Brandy committed, I basically wait until
- 24:36Speaker 1: I got home and I knew already I was going
- 24:39Speaker 1: to commit to North Carolina since I had told all
- 24:41Speaker 1: the other schools that I had no interest, and so
- 24:46Speaker 1: that ended up being wide. I committed to North Carolina
- 24:48Speaker 1: and going to North Carolina do that.
- 24:51Speaker 4: But North Carolina just came off of a championship. No,
- 24:54Speaker 4: did I make that up?
- 24:56Speaker 1: Let me see when I got there and recent I
- 25:00Speaker 1: got there two thousand and eight, two thousand and nine,
- 25:03Speaker 1: we won a championship my freshman year. But the time
- 25:06Speaker 1: prior to that that they went in two thousand and five.
- 25:08Speaker 3: So they were on the map, like everybody, like going
- 25:12Speaker 3: to you and see was a big deal, like even
- 25:14Speaker 3: more so compared to Arizona and UCLA.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Was probably yeah, probably like u CLA, like Kansas, Yeah,
- 25:26Speaker 1: Kentucky's like there's only a couple like Mission State for real,
- 25:29Speaker 1: like yeah, but so so yeah, So you know, I
- 25:33Speaker 1: didn't think much of it in the sense of like,
- 25:35Speaker 1: you know, oh, I'm losing out on anything. Yeah, Ucla
- 25:38Speaker 1: or Arizona, Yeah, like didn't work out for me. I'm like, oh,
- 25:42Speaker 1: like I'll fall back on North Carolina.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Which is which is so wild to say, because I'm
- 25:47Speaker 3: sure anybody else in your position like that's their dream
- 25:51Speaker 3: like number one option, and for you, like you know, these.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Other tutors, I'm not going to say it was like
- 25:57Speaker 1: it was more so like I know, I did the work.
- 25:59Speaker 1: I put myself in a position like I'm a body.
- 26:01Speaker 4: I never knew this story. I'm learning something.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I'm literally a lot of people ask me like why
- 26:07Speaker 1: did you go to you want to see why did
- 26:08Speaker 1: you go to like you know the acc and see
- 26:10Speaker 1: that's the thing. That's why I'm saying, like, yeah, the
- 26:12Speaker 1: naivety of it all is just that like at the time,
- 26:15Speaker 1: I wasn't as engaged was really dissecting what these conferences
- 26:20Speaker 1: look like, because in my mind, I'm like, oh, it's
- 26:23Speaker 1: a game, right, you just play this game anywhere you go. Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 1: that's why I introduced like the politics of.
- 26:30Speaker 4: That's when you got introduced to the politics of it. Interesting.
- 26:35Speaker 1: It wasn't as fun anymore.
- 26:37Speaker 3: And you know it's crazy, like I knew you were
- 26:39Speaker 3: you were committing to you see, and I told everybody.
- 26:41Speaker 3: And I was in Katie texts at the time, because
- 26:43Speaker 3: you know, our mom spoke all the time about it,
- 26:46Speaker 3: and I when I.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Tell you, I was telling everybody. I was telling her,
- 26:49Speaker 4: Oh no, I wasn't in Katie. I was in Atlanta
- 26:51Speaker 4: at the time, and I bragged on you. I was,
- 26:54Speaker 4: you know, my cousin.
- 26:54Speaker 6: You know, you just committed.
- 26:56Speaker 1: It was it was it was.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I worried about I don't think I ever told you
- 27:01Speaker 3: I got into it with somebody. It was probably head
- 27:05Speaker 3: they was they was trying to talk some ship and
- 27:08Speaker 3: I said, you ain't know Larry Drew.
- 27:11Speaker 4: That's why I told myself, you're not Larry Drew. Where
- 27:13Speaker 4: are you going to school to play?
- 27:15Speaker 1: And that was a thing too, man, because like it
- 27:17Speaker 1: was so crazy having like this sense of I'm just
- 27:22Speaker 1: tethered to the court in real life and like people
- 27:29Speaker 1: who have ideas of me that might not know. It's like, okay, cool,
- 27:34Speaker 1: you can assume one thing, like you might assume you know,
- 27:37Speaker 1: I was put here because my father is or whatever.
- 27:40Speaker 1: It's like, come guard me, come guard me. You'll find
- 27:49Speaker 1: out why there's buzz.
- 27:53Speaker 8: Right.
- 27:53Speaker 1: But at the same time, again, it's not enough in
- 28:00Speaker 1: some places to just know that you're good, yeah right.
- 28:05Speaker 1: You kind of do need an environment and a supporting cast.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And that's like, you know, I realize that, especially coming
- 28:11Speaker 1: like leaving home where my support was thinking and feeling
- 28:15Speaker 1: like again, all right, well on my own support a
- 28:18Speaker 1: naive like you need, you need like people around you
- 28:22Speaker 1: that believe in you or you are gonna uplift.
- 28:24Speaker 8: You for sure.
- 28:24Speaker 5: Yeah, but the actually sex way into my next question.
- 28:28Speaker 5: So you have already made your own imprint on your
- 28:32Speaker 5: own just about your ability and your talent, but with
- 28:35Speaker 5: your dad's background and your own success, did you feel
- 28:38Speaker 5: the pressure to live up to expectations, whether spoken or unspoken.
- 28:43Speaker 6: You spoke a little bit about it before, but the
- 28:44Speaker 6: pressure part.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Yeah, no, under I think that there is definitely some
- 28:48Speaker 1: pressure to at least make the mbactivtys right. And again too,
- 28:53Speaker 1: it's like it's not easy, you know what I'm saying,
- 28:57Speaker 1: to get to that level. So then I see the
- 29:00Speaker 1: sacrifice like my parents make too, like not just my dad,
- 29:03Speaker 1: but then my mom, right, And it's like ship, if
- 29:06Speaker 1: it weren't for her, I wouldn't be even with all
- 29:09Speaker 1: the skills that my dad gave me. She's still like
- 29:14Speaker 1: made sure that I was able to compete and had
- 29:17Speaker 1: me in a situation where I was able to do
- 29:20Speaker 1: the things that I love. So she had no time
- 29:23Speaker 1: for herself because she made it all about me and
- 29:26Speaker 1: my brothers. So at the very least, like I'm saying, oh,
- 29:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna pay it back to her to everybody else, right,
- 29:34Speaker 1: I gotta, I gotta at the very least get get
- 29:36Speaker 1: to the NBA so she can feel problem. And so yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 1: it was. You know, it's definitely a lot of pressure,
- 29:43Speaker 1: I think. And you know for any any any kid
- 29:46Speaker 1: that's born into the game, born into the game, right,
- 29:50Speaker 1: it's gonna be pressure for sure. At some point though
- 29:53Speaker 1: they make a decision to you know, to lead a
- 29:55Speaker 1: life for themselves. But for me, the game of basketball,
- 30:03Speaker 1: it was just like having a right or left hand.
- 30:05Speaker 1: It was yeah, cause the ball was always there, you
- 30:07Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, and yea, and part of what
- 30:08Speaker 1: I did so well, it was like I was a facilitator.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I was a playmaker. I could dribble, ye, So you
- 30:12Speaker 1: know I'm walking around my school dribbling the ball like
- 30:16Speaker 1: teachers gotta take the ball for me. I'm like, I
- 30:18Speaker 1: don't have the ball. I'm still acting, I'm you know,
- 30:21Speaker 1: so this is just like, yeah, you know, it's how
- 30:24Speaker 1: it was growing up. I remember at the Laker games.
- 30:27Speaker 1: You know, I'm six seven years old. Remember a little Jeff,
- 30:30Speaker 1: Yeah Osborne, Me and him, we used to wait for
- 30:33Speaker 1: my dad and Big Jeff to come up from the
- 30:37Speaker 1: locker rooms. And you know, like when the family stays
- 30:41Speaker 1: after everybody else leaves the arenas. Yeah, so I remember
- 30:46Speaker 1: my dad, you know, he'd come up from the locker room,
- 30:49Speaker 1: greet everybody, you know, it's time to go outside, walk
- 30:52Speaker 1: to the cars, and everybody to depart, but me and
- 30:53Speaker 1: little Jeffrey. We had this theme where my dad's shoulders,
- 30:58Speaker 1: each shoulder could have been the rim, and we would
- 31:01Speaker 1: just like play basketball and like, so my dad is
- 31:04Speaker 1: like walking out the arena and we're just like and
- 31:07Speaker 1: like just like jumping on my dad's shoulders and then
- 31:10Speaker 1: acting like we're dunking the ball and stuff.
- 31:12Speaker 8: So it's just like.
- 31:14Speaker 1: But yeah, but like that's what I'm saying, Like I
- 31:16Speaker 1: just played because I like to play, you know what
- 31:19Speaker 1: I'm saying. And basketball was just always like front and center.
- 31:22Speaker 1: So I see like the showdown area too, So I'm like,
- 31:26Speaker 1: this is this is where the game could bring me.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Let me just you know, continue doing what I guess
- 31:31Speaker 1: I'm here to do.
- 31:33Speaker 6: So how did you cope with the pressure, especially with
- 31:36Speaker 6: you Again, it.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Wasn't until I got older. Yeah, it wasn't until like
- 31:40Speaker 1: college and that whole thing. So and I bring up
- 31:42Speaker 1: I bring up so yeah, so the whole college thing,
- 31:46Speaker 1: it wasn't until I got to college's two thousand and
- 31:48Speaker 1: nine and Twitter became a theme exactly. So going from
- 31:54Speaker 1: being able to just be a person and live your
- 31:58Speaker 1: life and make mistakes or have an opinion without having
- 32:03Speaker 1: to be inundated by anybody else's opinion. Right, it wasn't
- 32:07Speaker 1: there yet, but then you know, let you you know,
- 32:11Speaker 1: or it wasn't until again, like I got onto the team,
- 32:14Speaker 1: Twitter started becoming a thing. I was actually not even
- 32:19Speaker 1: into social media, but at the time I kind of
- 32:22Speaker 1: got involved with it because I was dealing with a situation,
- 32:27Speaker 1: relationship and breakup, and I was I was trying to
- 32:32Speaker 1: keep stay tapped in with what was going on via
- 32:35Speaker 1: social media. And that's when I realized, oh, shoot, I
- 32:41Speaker 1: can't have a bad game, because I have one bad game.
- 32:46Speaker 1: On this new platform, I had hundreds, i mean like
- 32:50Speaker 1: thousands of messages of all these people with you and
- 32:54Speaker 1: seeing in their names, right, talking crazy to me crazy,
- 33:00Speaker 1: and I didn't. I had never experienced this before, right,
- 33:02Speaker 1: I'm like, shoot, I'm.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Used to being more sheltered, probably not.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Even sheltered, just I mean, like just the kind of
- 33:11Speaker 1: stuff that y'all seated day.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Yeah, but like.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Sixteen seventeen years ago and I'm you know, I'm eighteen
- 33:17Speaker 1: years old. They called me all kind of in word, right,
- 33:21Speaker 1: they called me all kind of you know, fuck you,
- 33:24Speaker 1: fuck your family, like you know, your dad sucks, your
- 33:26Speaker 1: mom's I'm just like just But the thing that got
- 33:30Speaker 1: to me was, okay, I get it. I'm like, all right,
- 33:36Speaker 1: I'm on this platform, I'm on this pedestal, and this
- 33:39Speaker 1: is kind of how they train you to look at it, right, Yeah.
- 33:43Speaker 1: But then I started feeling like I should still be
- 33:49Speaker 1: able to say something though, like, you know, try to
- 33:54Speaker 1: be as amicable as I can, right, obviously not and
- 33:57Speaker 1: I represent you know, the team everything, right, So this
- 34:04Speaker 1: is when I started to in my mind, I'm like,
- 34:07Speaker 1: as an athlete, I can't say anything though, right, I can't.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I cannot talk as an athlete because I got too much.
- 34:14Speaker 1: I got too much retave basically if you will, right,
- 34:16Speaker 1: as an athlete, But as an artist, I might be
- 34:21Speaker 1: able to say what I want.
- 34:22Speaker 8: So that part, okay, go ahead.
- 34:26Speaker 1: So I started to I started to write music, and
- 34:30Speaker 1: I it wasn't even music at first. It was kind
- 34:32Speaker 1: of just like spoken word, like poetry kind of you
- 34:35Speaker 1: know what I mean, like more about really just kind of, uh,
- 34:40Speaker 1: what is it like like a catharticist also like kind
- 34:43Speaker 1: of just because I was I went through a pretty
- 34:46Speaker 1: rough patch, right having like you know, going from McDonald's
- 34:50Speaker 1: American plane, having a success that I was used to
- 34:53Speaker 1: having to like, you know, I understand that, trust me,
- 34:57Speaker 1: I get why am I playing? We got Time Lost
- 34:58Speaker 1: and we got Wayne Ellington, we got Green, we got
- 35:00Speaker 1: tie the Hands bro Like we were stacked, you know.
- 35:04Speaker 1: So it wasn't so much that I wasn't playing. It
- 35:06Speaker 1: was just like I think I was expecting to have
- 35:09Speaker 1: a little bit more cushion to develop, but it just
- 35:12Speaker 1: in my mind wasn't there. And so I started to
- 35:16Speaker 1: isolate myself a little bit, not being around my family,
- 35:19Speaker 1: not feeling like you know, I was like, you know again,
- 35:21Speaker 1: as a point guard, I was taught to be the
- 35:23Speaker 1: extension of the coach on the floor, have a certain
- 35:25Speaker 1: relationship with the coach. Being in the coach at the time,
- 35:29Speaker 1: you know, kind of started falling out a little bit
- 35:32Speaker 1: and it impacted my mental health. And so I was
- 35:36Speaker 1: just at a point where I'm like, yeah, I'm about
- 35:38Speaker 1: to start writing music and see where this takes me.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Because as an athlete, I can't say nothing and is depressing.
- 35:45Speaker 1: But as an artist, I feel like I can, I
- 35:48Speaker 1: can be a little bit more creative with you know,
- 35:51Speaker 1: in my expression and how I release right.
- 35:53Speaker 8: And so.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I got into music and then me getting into music.
- 35:59Speaker 1: I remember after it was after my after we won
- 36:02Speaker 1: a national championship too, so so coming into college, I was,
- 36:05Speaker 1: I was very I did everything by the book, didn't drink,
- 36:08Speaker 1: didn't smoke, didn't you know, didn't party for real. I
- 36:12Speaker 1: was kind of just you know, all my teammates right
- 36:17Speaker 1: they saw this in me. They were like, yo, come out,
- 36:19Speaker 1: come party, come kick it. Like I will try to
- 36:21Speaker 1: push back, you know. I had a girl at the time.
- 36:23Speaker 1: But then too, I'm like, all right, even if I
- 36:25Speaker 1: go out, I'm still not you know, not turning up
- 36:27Speaker 1: so to speak. But I made problemised with my teammates.
- 36:31Speaker 1: They were like, what's gonna take for you to take
- 36:34Speaker 1: a shot go up right in college to have a
- 36:39Speaker 1: good time. I said, if we win a national championship,
- 36:43Speaker 1: I'll celebrate. And we won it, so you celebrate it.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I celebrate. I got back to campus and again it was, man,
- 36:57Speaker 1: it was it was. It was a very surreal feeling.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Like again, winning the national championship at the highest level
- 37:04Speaker 1: and knowing that I should feel a sense of like
- 37:07Speaker 1: pride in this accomplishment, but I really didn't, and I
- 37:12Speaker 1: felt bad about that.
- 37:14Speaker 6: So what did you feel?
- 37:17Speaker 1: I felt like I felt like I was happy for
- 37:22Speaker 1: my teammates, but that was it.
- 37:26Speaker 6: So it was a disassociation.
- 37:28Speaker 1: It wasn't even like I was happy for my teammates,
- 37:31Speaker 1: like knowing that my teammates put forth and was in
- 37:34Speaker 1: there and even though I was part of that, because
- 37:37Speaker 1: you didn't play or did well. No, no, you know
- 37:43Speaker 1: it's crazy too, because so I ended up hernating, herniating
- 37:47Speaker 1: my four wow during a practice at the sweet sixteen,
- 37:55Speaker 1: and I was pretty much in excruciating for that time period.
- 38:03Speaker 1: And I remember thinking too, like I've dealt with all
- 38:09Speaker 1: kinds of injuries playing basketball, from spring ankles, dislocated fingers,
- 38:13Speaker 1: you know, touring muscles, whatever. I've never felt like what
- 38:18Speaker 1: I felt in my back at that moment. And I remember, uh,
- 38:23Speaker 1: you know, trying to talk to the team like something
- 38:25Speaker 1: going on during the tournament is not the time right
- 38:29Speaker 1: to be trying to you know, go soft on your team,
- 38:34Speaker 1: right broken, And so you know, instead of instead of
- 38:42Speaker 1: me having anybody look at me for real. I was
- 38:44Speaker 1: kind of just told, like, we'll shoot you up with
- 38:47Speaker 1: some stuff, but you're gonna keep playing through it, you
- 38:49Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I was like, actually, don't shoot
- 38:51Speaker 1: me up. I'll just play through it, and I'll wait
- 38:53Speaker 1: until after the season. I'll go get it checked out
- 38:55Speaker 1: on mom. And I just ended up with happening and
- 38:58Speaker 1: come to find out how to how to tear in
- 39:00Speaker 1: my L four L five And it's actually it's what
- 39:04Speaker 1: ended up taking me out of the game because I
- 39:06Speaker 1: had I've been dealing with it, you know, my whole career.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Never had surgery for it or anything like that. Just
- 39:14Speaker 1: went the holistic you know, physical therapy, a lot of
- 39:17Speaker 1: you know, strengthening, you know, different muscles and what have you.
- 39:22Speaker 1: But it was definitely something I dealt with throughout my career.
- 39:26Speaker 1: And so I think too that at the time again,
- 39:30Speaker 1: like you know, you win a national championship, but then
- 39:33Speaker 1: it's like, shoot, I got an L four L five injury.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I didn't even know was an L for L five
- 39:37Speaker 1: injury at the time. But I'm just in pain, that's
- 39:39Speaker 1: all I know. Like I said, I didn't really feel
- 39:42Speaker 1: like contributed much to the team, winning though I knew
- 39:46Speaker 1: I was still a teammate, you know, and like I said,
- 39:49Speaker 1: I was happy and proud of my teammates. Yeah, but
- 39:52Speaker 1: then also too, it was just like everything I haven't
- 39:54Speaker 1: taught about what it means to be a leader, to
- 39:56Speaker 1: be a good teammate at that time from my pops,
- 40:00Speaker 1: you know. Uh, like I felt like me sulking in
- 40:05Speaker 1: that moment took me out of the good teammate kind
- 40:08Speaker 1: of conversation. But it it's still like shit that I
- 40:10Speaker 1: can't really control, right, Like I can just feel how
- 40:12Speaker 1: I feel, you know, So I kind of I was
- 40:16Speaker 1: just like, man, it is crazy. So seasons over with,
- 40:19Speaker 1: we won a national championship. I go back to the
- 40:21Speaker 1: campus and I'm just like, all right, I guess how
- 40:28Speaker 1: to turn up.
- 40:28Speaker 8: Yeah whatever.
- 40:30Speaker 1: One of my teammates, though, he was like, hey, you
- 40:32Speaker 1: should come through, come to the apartment. We're gonna we're
- 40:36Speaker 1: gonna yeah, yeah, yeah, we're gonna. We're not gonna drink.
- 40:38Speaker 1: We we're gonna do something else. And I was like, Okay,
- 40:43Speaker 1: I don't wanna call him out. But two of my
- 40:44Speaker 1: teammates in North Carolina, we get I get to his apartment,
- 40:48Speaker 1: he's rolling some some flowers, some cambas. I was like,
- 40:54Speaker 1: I was very nervous, but it's the first time I
- 40:59Speaker 1: used cannabis, some weed, and I ended up but listening
- 41:02Speaker 1: to Kushian Orange Juice, which is Whiskey Lefaus, you know,
- 41:05Speaker 1: flagship mixtape, and I thought, at that moment in time, like,
- 41:11Speaker 1: I feel great.
- 41:12Speaker 6: Didn't help your back, I mean, you help.
- 41:14Speaker 1: You, but I'm assuming it helped your mental state of
- 41:18Speaker 1: help helped my back helped.
- 41:20Speaker 4: He was like, you felt great, you felt grounded.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Honestly, I was trying to like make sense of it,
- 41:29Speaker 1: but for real, I was all I knew is like
- 41:33Speaker 1: my dad. I'm thinking back to all the things he's
- 41:35Speaker 1: ever told me about, you know, cannabis, and.
- 41:40Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I like.
- 41:46Speaker 1: This feeling. It's all like I fe good. I like it,
- 41:49Speaker 1: and it's like, hopefully this don't make me a dope head, right,
- 41:51Speaker 1: But when I go home, like I'm in North Carolina
- 41:55Speaker 1: smoking weed and I like it like this, I know
- 41:58Speaker 1: California has better, So when I get home, let me
- 42:02Speaker 1: see if I can get some better weed and see
- 42:04Speaker 1: if that helps even more. And it did, and I
- 42:08Speaker 1: started to use it recreationally, right, but more so from
- 42:13Speaker 1: the purpose of like I legit feel good, like my
- 42:17Speaker 1: body feels good, like I'm you know, I think people too.
- 42:21Speaker 1: It's like it depends on you. Talk to me, but
- 42:24Speaker 1: they'll tell you you can't really do much on cannibies.
- 42:26Speaker 8: You can't.
- 42:27Speaker 1: You can't work, you can't think. It makes you slow,
- 42:28Speaker 1: it makes you lazy. I wasn't really getting that. It
- 42:32Speaker 1: was like I was. I was in my head, but
- 42:34Speaker 1: I didn't feel sluggish or lazier.
- 42:38Speaker 4: And you felt productive in day to day activity.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Wow, Like I made myself productive. Like that's what I'm saying.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Like I knew I had to work out still, so
- 42:48Speaker 1: I would go to the gym. I would go work out,
- 42:50Speaker 1: you know what I mean every day, Right, I made
- 42:53Speaker 1: it a point to stay in shape. But I also
- 42:54Speaker 1: wasn't smoking as much. You see what I'm saying, Like
- 42:57Speaker 1: it was like every day kind of once in a
- 42:58Speaker 1: while kind of thing. I just knew I just crossed
- 43:02Speaker 1: that line, you know what I'm saying. At least my
- 43:03Speaker 1: dad knows now that is what I'm on talking about.
- 43:08Speaker 1: What was it like with the pressure and the whole
- 43:09Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like my dad finds out
- 43:11Speaker 1: I'm smoking, it's over.
- 43:15Speaker 8: Yeah, changing in.
- 43:19Speaker 1: So yeah, I just you know, I kind of kept
- 43:20Speaker 1: it under raps for a little bit until it wasn't
- 43:22Speaker 1: underraps some more. Uh he ended up actually finding out.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Uh So, I read shirted one season at U c
- 43:29Speaker 1: l A after I transferred from North Carolina, and I
- 43:32Speaker 1: wasn't like smoking during the season or anything like that
- 43:35Speaker 1: kind of you know, made it like my off season
- 43:37Speaker 1: kind of a habit. But when I got home to
- 43:41Speaker 1: to U c l A, I was red shirting, but
- 43:45Speaker 1: would have been my senior year, so I wasn't playing.
- 43:47Speaker 1: I was just practicing. I failed a drug test at
- 43:51Speaker 1: U c l A and the staff ended up looping
- 43:56Speaker 1: in my parents for a phone call and then calling
- 43:58Speaker 1: me to tell me, yeah, we just got your results
- 44:01Speaker 1: and didn't know you were this kind of kid. And
- 44:03Speaker 1: my dad's on the phone, and my dad I.
- 44:06Speaker 8: Just remember he was like, yeah, so.
- 44:11Speaker 4: I can already imagine.
- 44:12Speaker 1: He was like, he's like, so this is when you
- 44:15Speaker 1: come back home and start doing I was like, no,
- 44:17Speaker 1: I've been dad here and there, and he was like, yeah, no,
- 44:20Speaker 1: this is just a surprise me. I didn't know. I
- 44:22Speaker 1: was like, well, honestly, I'm glad you do you know
- 44:26Speaker 1: like if something you know picked up, like.
- 44:29Speaker 6: Did you tell him that, I mean, how it was
- 44:30Speaker 6: making you feel and how it was helping.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I didn't get into it too much. I just told him.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I was like I'm in control. Yeah, you know what
- 44:36Speaker 1: I'm saying. Now you got to worry about again, like
- 44:39Speaker 1: whatever image that you had of me that I would
- 44:42Speaker 1: never possibly even try something like this, right right, that's.
- 44:48Speaker 6: To feel clean, to be able to be or tell
- 44:51Speaker 6: him about yourself.
- 44:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 44:52Speaker 1: I mean again it's like fast forward what ten years
- 44:59Speaker 1: and twenty years old almost years, like what you're doing cannabis?
- 45:03Speaker 1: I mean I'm not per se doing anything in cannabis,
- 45:05Speaker 1: like for work. My partner Stephane, she works directly with
- 45:09Speaker 1: whiz Khalif people.
- 45:12Speaker 6: So that tied back into your first moment.
- 45:19Speaker 1: So full circle. But again, I just think it is
- 45:23Speaker 1: as like an advocate of just all things well and
- 45:28Speaker 1: in trying to help people, especially you know, athletes, right
- 45:33Speaker 1: like yeah, I would never just talent athlete like, oh
- 45:36Speaker 1: you having a hard time, you got a bad game.
- 45:37Speaker 1: It's supposed to be brother, It's not my messages. What
- 45:40Speaker 1: my message is to say, know yourself, know yourself. You
- 45:46Speaker 1: are branding your commodity, right, and you got to think
- 45:49Speaker 1: about that first and foremost. And you know, uh, if
- 45:54Speaker 1: you are going to use right a little bit, don't
- 45:56Speaker 1: let these people see you, right, be smart, be be
- 45:59Speaker 1: respond But then too, it's like, you know, I think
- 46:08Speaker 1: unless you just go up to an athlete and I
- 46:10Speaker 1: have a conversation and just start picking their mind or
- 46:12Speaker 1: they brain, most people just think like everything is all
- 46:14Speaker 1: good all the time, you know what I mean. So
- 46:18Speaker 1: while its in and of itself right, like the mental
- 46:21Speaker 1: health aspect of it, like you can't really take care
- 46:25Speaker 1: of your body until you are able to take care
- 46:27Speaker 1: of your mind first. And cannabis helped me, you know,
- 46:34Speaker 1: establish that I think perspective a little bit more foundationally
- 46:40Speaker 1: just because I'm like, you know what, like cannabis helped
- 46:45Speaker 1: me from an artistic standpoint, It helped me express myself.
- 46:48Speaker 1: It helped me get into a better frame of mind,
- 46:51Speaker 1: helped me, you know, with my artistry. It made me feel,
- 46:55Speaker 1: you know, like I wasn't as tethered down like I could.
- 46:58Speaker 1: I could reach out to more people, I can do more,
- 47:00Speaker 1: I can make more connections, Okay, and you know to
- 47:04Speaker 1: it like again, it's I think like the NBA now
- 47:11Speaker 1: not even testing for cannabis. And and and you know,
- 47:16Speaker 1: you look back like I wanna talk about like stories
- 47:18Speaker 1: and what have you. I I know so many guys
- 47:20Speaker 1: that ended up not even being able to get a education,
- 47:25Speaker 1: right because of the right. Yeah, and and come come
- 47:28Speaker 1: to find out that you know, it's all not that
- 47:31Speaker 1: bad anyway, y right, So yeah, I'm just a steward
- 47:35Speaker 1: of of my time and in in my place. And
- 47:38Speaker 1: and again I'm just like, you know, these experiences that
- 47:41Speaker 1: I'm having, let me at least be come somebody who
- 47:44Speaker 1: can at least share these experiences with people who might
- 47:47Speaker 1: be walking in or going into a space somewhere from
- 47:50Speaker 1: from where I've been, because you know, game has changed
- 47:54Speaker 1: a little bit, yeah, on and off the court. Yeah,
- 47:57Speaker 1: but I think players just understand needing themselves a little
- 48:01Speaker 1: bit more as as a as a as a valued commodity,
- 48:03Speaker 1: as a brand, and then them taking care of themselves
- 48:05Speaker 1: in that regard first and then everything else there. The
- 48:09Speaker 1: team organization later is more so kind of the market
- 48:13Speaker 1: space that we're stuck in.
- 48:14Speaker 3: So is that you're so you are transitioning, and you
- 48:17Speaker 3: are on this journey of self discovery after you rap basketball, Right, So,
- 48:22Speaker 3: so you you finish up at UCLA, you play a
- 48:24Speaker 3: little bit overseas, you play in the NBA, and so
- 48:28Speaker 3: when you when you feel like your basketball career is
- 48:32Speaker 3: slowly coming to an end, and so now you're in
- 48:34Speaker 3: this transitional period of trying to figure out your purpose
- 48:37Speaker 3: outside of basketball? Was is it? Is that?
- 48:39Speaker 8: Why?
- 48:40Speaker 1: Like wellness?
- 48:41Speaker 3: And I guess like how did how did that merge
- 48:45Speaker 3: from like you transitioning from basketball into what?
- 48:48Speaker 1: So what I'm doing now? I just always well, I
- 48:51Speaker 1: was a facilitator, So like I I broke, it's just
- 48:54Speaker 1: records everywhere I went. Yeah, it's kind of like my thing.
- 48:56Speaker 1: So when I was done basketball, I knew I didn't
- 48:59Speaker 1: want to be a coach. I didn't want to do
- 49:01Speaker 1: player development. I didn't want to stay within that sports world. Okay, Yeah,
- 49:06Speaker 1: I kind of just wanted to branch off being an entrepreneur,
- 49:09Speaker 1: do my own thing, figure it out. Knowing it financially
- 49:12Speaker 1: probably wasn't the best move. Yeah, but I believed in
- 49:16Speaker 1: myself and I believed in my environment, right, the people
- 49:18Speaker 1: around me. Yeah, and so yeah, I I just said,
- 49:24Speaker 1: do the same things you do on the court off
- 49:26Speaker 1: the court. Put people in position to play to their
- 49:30Speaker 1: strengths right, and in order to do that, it takes
- 49:32Speaker 1: some time to learn people you know, to to curate
- 49:36Speaker 1: your network, you know a little bit, understand who all
- 49:38Speaker 1: you have surrounding you. And then once you have an understanding,
- 49:43Speaker 1: I kind of break it down into two things, KYG,
- 49:46Speaker 1: which is, know your game. Okay, Once you know what
- 49:49Speaker 1: you do well, your strengths and your weaknesses, then you
- 49:52Speaker 1: can only play to your strengths while trying to mitigate
- 49:54Speaker 1: your weaknesses or work on them right when you have
- 49:56Speaker 1: some time to KYG. And then KYP is know your
- 50:00Speaker 1: pers So once you know your game, then you know
- 50:04Speaker 1: your personnel's game and what they do well and what
- 50:07Speaker 1: they don't do well, so that you can then play
- 50:10Speaker 1: them to their strengths while trying to mitigate weaknesses. So
- 50:13Speaker 1: then once everybody on the team knows what they do
- 50:16Speaker 1: well and what everybody else does well, KYGKYP, hopefully y'all
- 50:21Speaker 1: all care enough about the team and the squading everybody
- 50:23Speaker 1: else to want to see each each other succeed that
- 50:26Speaker 1: you again continue to just put people in position to
- 50:29Speaker 1: do what they do well, okay, and then success happens.
- 50:34Speaker 1: It's kind of my model. So it's like, how do
- 50:36Speaker 1: I surround myself with people who I want to work
- 50:38Speaker 1: with and I want to you know, in one way
- 50:41Speaker 1: shape or another, you know, do business to stay connected
- 50:44Speaker 1: with right now maybe maybe later. So that's kind of
- 50:48Speaker 1: how after the game, like my mind just started working,
- 50:53Speaker 1: was like, look at your network, look at who you
- 50:55Speaker 1: have as a direct contact, and learn more about what
- 50:59Speaker 1: they're doing. Once I just learned more about what everybody
- 51:03Speaker 1: else around me was doing, I was like, how can
- 51:05Speaker 1: I now be a service by plugging?
- 51:07Speaker 4: So have you turned this concept into a business.
- 51:11Speaker 1: Well yes, so we have Stephanie and I. We have
- 51:15Speaker 1: like work through sixty, which is our creative marketing agency.
- 51:18Speaker 8: So what does that do.
- 51:21Speaker 1: To our tagline?
- 51:21Speaker 8: We are.
- 51:24Speaker 1: Architects of iconic culture and design, so basically help I
- 51:30Speaker 1: D eight you know, everything from original concepts to you know, strategies,
- 51:36Speaker 1: marketing campaigns. Basically we host events, we throw events, you know,
- 51:41Speaker 1: experiential the three sixty at the end kind of just
- 51:46Speaker 1: I wanted to incorporate like everything you know, you know,
- 51:52Speaker 1: all things creative that somebody might need. Consorts or we
- 51:56Speaker 1: like if I can't get it done and stephan can't
- 51:57Speaker 1: get it done, don't you know, we can help find
- 51:59Speaker 1: somebody to get it done for you and we can
- 52:02Speaker 1: work from there.
- 52:02Speaker 6: Okay, are you still involved in your music.
- 52:08Speaker 1: As a as like a like a little hobby here
- 52:11Speaker 1: and there. Nothing that I'm like pursuing heavily. But I
- 52:14Speaker 1: do have some music out that I've put out a
- 52:16Speaker 1: couple of years ago. You got to I think Apple
- 52:20Speaker 1: Music or Spotify. You put in Larry light see one
- 52:24Speaker 1: or two songs. But I kind of just wanted to
- 52:26Speaker 1: like put that stuff out there, even you know, knowing
- 52:29Speaker 1: that I was working on it, I was very passionate
- 52:32Speaker 1: at one point, you.
- 52:32Speaker 4: Know, oh we would be in the studio, you would take.
- 52:37Speaker 1: The idea was to release like a whole project and
- 52:41Speaker 1: really put myself out there and actually pursue the artist,
- 52:45Speaker 1: you know, my artistry. But I made it. I made
- 52:47Speaker 1: a decision again kind of just watching and learning more
- 52:51Speaker 1: about the production aspect and being more behind the camera,
- 52:54Speaker 1: behind the scenes. I'm like, I think that's kind of
- 52:58Speaker 1: more of my lane because I'm starting to really like,
- 53:00Speaker 1: you gotta commit. You're gonna be an artist, you know,
- 53:02Speaker 1: you really commit, and it's not gonna be easy, right, Like,
- 53:07Speaker 1: and it's not that I'm afraid of hard work. It's
- 53:09Speaker 1: just if I'm gonna work hard now, knowing what I know,
- 53:11Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna be behind the camera.
- 53:13Speaker 6: Needs to be on something that you actually enjoy and
- 53:15Speaker 6: want to do right.
- 53:18Speaker 3: So we asked you to bring a legacy object, something
- 53:21Speaker 3: that represents your legacy where you're trying to go, just
- 53:24Speaker 3: how you're evolving. So we're gonna bring it out and
- 53:28Speaker 3: have you explain what your object means to you.
- 53:33Speaker 6: Evan, So you brought a children puzzle.
- 53:41Speaker 1: It's a puzzle.
- 53:42Speaker 4: Leg this one.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Okay, My legacy object is a puzzle spelling out my
- 53:50Speaker 1: daughter's name, and her name is Legacy. So I think, yeah,
- 53:55Speaker 1: this just kind of speaks to again the legacy that
- 54:01Speaker 1: I wanna leave behind is you know, I wanted to
- 54:04Speaker 1: be felt through the people who have interacted with me,
- 54:07Speaker 1: and in in who I've impacted ultimately, and and I
- 54:12Speaker 1: look at my daughter now, you know, she's nineteen months
- 54:14Speaker 1: old again, like we you know, we named your legacy.
- 54:20Speaker 1: You know, I think just for this reason too, So
- 54:22Speaker 1: Stephanie and not my partner. She's an amazing mother s
- 54:25Speaker 1: does such an amazing job and making sure that the
- 54:29Speaker 1: both of us are are are you know, more than
- 54:31Speaker 1: taken care of?
- 54:34Speaker 8: And so you know, in that.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Spirit, in the spirit of you know how I was raised. Yeah,
- 54:40Speaker 1: I really just wanna be the best father that I can.
- 54:43Speaker 6: And I already know that you are lair.
- 54:45Speaker 4: You really are a great person.
- 54:47Speaker 3: And like I I brag on you a lot, cause
- 54:50Speaker 3: there's not too many people in this industry who are
- 54:52Speaker 3: just like genuinely good people.
- 54:54Speaker 4: You really are an exceptional human being.
- 54:57Speaker 1: And I pretty surely I am proud of you, and
- 54:58Speaker 1: like thank you means why, but I really am proud
- 55:01Speaker 1: of you.
- 55:02Speaker 3: But I want to ask before we like close, what's
- 55:05Speaker 3: one piece of advice you give specifically to men whose
- 55:09Speaker 3: lives deviate from what they thought their dream.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Was, You know, to men whose lives DV eight I
- 55:20Speaker 1: would say, man, I would say, you know, if you dream,
- 55:28Speaker 1: if dreams devia's, it means that you've you've, in some way,
- 55:32Speaker 1: shape or form, have awakened you know what I'm saying,
- 55:35Speaker 1: And you've started to recognize and realize that, like there's
- 55:38Speaker 1: a difference between the things that you might want and
- 55:40Speaker 1: the things that you might need to do. Yeah, And
- 55:44Speaker 1: so identifying the difference between a dream and reality first
- 55:49Speaker 1: and foremost the acceptance aspect. As we get older, I
- 55:53Speaker 1: think those of us who are unable to accept have
- 55:58Speaker 1: a harder time adjusting and adapting.
- 56:02Speaker 8: And so.
- 56:05Speaker 1: It's not to say that a dream can't be re
- 56:09Speaker 1: manifested or brought to fruition in some way, shape or form.
- 56:13Speaker 8: Down the line.
- 56:14Speaker 1: Just didn't see it, just didn't make sense to you
- 56:16Speaker 1: at that time. But if you are grounded in truth,
- 56:21Speaker 1: if you're grounded in reality, if you're grounded in how
- 56:24Speaker 1: you make the people around you feel, you know, I
- 56:30Speaker 1: believe that the universe works itself out right, It'll you'll
- 56:35Speaker 1: start to recognize like the signs here and every things
- 56:38Speaker 1: that you you know, and if you listen, you'll know
- 56:40Speaker 1: what to look for. And again it's like maybe you
- 56:43Speaker 1: had a dream about doing you know A, and then
- 56:46Speaker 1: come to find out here's B and B is actually
- 56:49Speaker 1: a better dream for you than you to be. So
- 56:52Speaker 1: that's the thing, man, you just never know what life,
- 56:54Speaker 1: so you can't ever be too sure about it. You
- 56:56Speaker 1: gotta just keep.
- 56:59Speaker 8: A dream.
- 57:02Speaker 10: That's great.
- 57:03Speaker 5: If you could say anything to your dad, just looking
- 57:07Speaker 5: back over your life and your career, what's one thing
- 57:10Speaker 5: you would say to your dad?
- 57:11Speaker 4: In one sentence.
- 57:14Speaker 1: One thing I would say to my pops. One thing
- 57:27Speaker 1: I would say, I would say, you know, I think
- 57:36Speaker 1: I would just I would make I would acknowledge the sacrifice,
- 57:42Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like, I think people think
- 57:48Speaker 1: it's just easy because it's like, oh, you play basketball,
- 57:53Speaker 1: you know, you're you get to go out to eat
- 57:54Speaker 1: dinner fancy restaurants and hang around like really rich and
- 57:57Speaker 1: like cool, you know, famous people. But it's a tool.
- 58:02Speaker 1: You know, it takes a gr it take. It takes
- 58:04Speaker 1: you know, a lot of time and a lot of sacrifice,
- 58:06Speaker 1: yea to to to do what he's done, Yeah, in
- 58:10Speaker 1: that space for as long as he's done it for. Yeah,
- 58:14Speaker 1: you know, I'm always thinking about how I can tell
- 58:18Speaker 1: his story. And it's actually something that I've been working on.
- 58:25Speaker 1: So I got I got some you know, under mon
- 58:26Speaker 1: sleeves in that department too. But yeah, I was just
- 58:30Speaker 1: thinking for the you know, thank both my parents real
- 58:32Speaker 1: theay sacrifice. Uh, you know, he sacrificed in one way.
- 58:37Speaker 1: She didn't, you know, she definitely did it too, Uh
- 58:39Speaker 1: my mother in another way. But you know, I know,
- 58:42Speaker 1: I know my dad ultimately, like he I he his
- 58:48Speaker 1: whole thing was like, we don't gotta agree, we don't
- 58:51Speaker 1: always gotta be on the same page. But uh, everything
- 58:55Speaker 1: that I have is all of y'alls. Yeah, so y'all
- 59:00Speaker 1: are always gonna be okay. That's what it's been, you know,
- 59:04Speaker 1: Like I think too. You know, people look at that
- 59:06Speaker 1: and they're like, oh, well, you know, y'all gotta work
- 59:09Speaker 1: hard because you got a dad that's like, you know,
- 59:11Speaker 1: willing to provide to do things. And I'm like, it's
- 59:15Speaker 1: actually obviously it's like I see that and I'm like,
- 59:18Speaker 1: I gotta do that same thing for my family.
- 59:20Speaker 4: So m hm, Well, we have a surprise for you.
- 59:24Speaker 6: We didn't tell you because it's a surprise.
- 59:30Speaker 4: You guys, don't I'm really bad at She's very bad.
- 59:34Speaker 4: I'm the first person to show you this press play
- 59:43Speaker 4: and we'll listen to it together.
- 59:44Speaker 10: Yeah, mister Larry Drew too. What's up? Man? I just
- 59:54Speaker 10: want to let you know just how proud I am
- 59:57Speaker 10: of you.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Your your journey.
- 1:00:02Speaker 10: From since you were you know, just a little fella, and.
- 1:00:10Speaker 8: Where you.
- 1:00:12Speaker 10: Persevered through a lot of tough times.
- 1:00:16Speaker 7: I know they weren't easy, but yet you you persevered
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: through them, and and that says a lot about you
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: and about your character and and again I'm really really
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: proud how you how you took the bull bout of
- 1:00:33Speaker 7: horns and you didn't make any excuses.
- 1:00:35Speaker 10: You just did what you had to do. And that
- 1:00:39Speaker 10: says a lot about you.
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: And as I look at you now, you know, just
- 1:00:44Speaker 7: becoming a father and me becoming a grandfather. M and
- 1:00:50Speaker 7: I sit back and I watch your interactions with your daughter.
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: It is such a beautiful, beautiful thing. Keep up a
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: good work, my man. Dad is always here for you.

- 1:01:39Speaker 8: means a lot to me.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: And like I said, you know, wouldn't be it wouldn't
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: be possible without.
- 1:01:49Speaker 8: All dang I.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: Was she told me, she goes, Ryan, don't start, just.
