- 0:24Speaker 1: Chapter twenty seven. The Enchanted Isle out under the Irish Sea,
- 0:33Speaker 1: fifteen or sixteen miles southwest of the Calf There is
- 0:38Speaker 1: an enchanted isle, long long ago. It was on the
- 0:43Speaker 1: surface of the water. That was in the days when
- 0:47Speaker 1: Menanin ruled in Man. But when Saint Patrick drove Menanin
- 0:53Speaker 1: and his men from the island in the form of
- 0:56Speaker 1: three legged creatures, they came upon this isle. Menanin dropped
- 1:02Speaker 1: it to the bottom of the sea, and they were
- 1:05Speaker 1: seen no more. Now it is the home of Mananon Maclear,
- 1:13Speaker 1: son of the Sea, and he rules it as he
- 1:16Speaker 1: used to rule Man. But once in seven years, when
- 1:20Speaker 1: old may Day is on a Sunday, the isle may
- 1:24Speaker 1: be seen. It rises up from the sea just before
- 1:28Speaker 1: sunrise like a beautiful vision, and Menanin looks once more
- 1:34Speaker 1: at Ellen Vannin. The hills of the Enchanted Isle are green, white,
- 1:42Speaker 1: foam rings it round, and if you are near enough,
- 1:47Speaker 1: you may see the tossing arms and golden hair of
- 1:51Speaker 1: the mermaids by the water's edge, watching their glittering jewels,
- 1:57Speaker 1: and hear the singing of birds, and smell the fragrant
- 2:01Speaker 1: scent of flowers. But as the first rays of the
- 2:05Speaker 1: sun rests upon its highest hills, it sinks into the
- 2:12Speaker 1: deep deep sea. End of Chapter twenty seven. Recording by
