- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:04Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Alright, good morning. Here we go. Headlines are brought to
- 0:08Speaker 2: you by Frostbrood Coors Light as cold as the Rockies.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Sam Darnold expected to miss week two due to a, quote,
- 0:15Speaker 2: glute injury, end quote, sustained early in last week's debut
- 0:19Speaker 2: of the Seahawks season. Drew Locke, impressive. I mean, I
- 0:24Speaker 2: say impressive, by the way, over the Patriots last week.
- 0:26Speaker 2: The Seahawks look likely to turn to him once again.
- 0:29Speaker 2: They'll kick things off after a decent period of rest
- 0:32Speaker 2: next weekend in Arizona at 125. The Huskies, does a
- 0:35Speaker 2: win feel like a loss? As close as it got
- 0:41Speaker 2: maybe this last weekend, they squeaked one out with a
- 0:44Speaker 2: capital S over Utah State. 16-14, which went down to
- 0:49Speaker 2: the final play of the game. Hail Mary fashion. DeMond Williams,
- 0:54Speaker 2: 26 for 41, 249 yards in the air, 11 carries,
- 0:55Speaker 2: 56 yards. Three picks by Gary Brusterhouse for the Aggies.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Without those, how interesting would that have been to see
- 1:09Speaker 2: where that game would have turned? Husky Honks will break
- 1:12Speaker 2: it down tomorrow at four with the one and only
- 1:14Speaker 2: Dave Softy Mahler. As far as the Cougs, Jess, you
- 1:18Speaker 2: have thoughts?
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yes, no.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Yes, but I'll keep them to myself.
- 1:22Speaker 2: So the answer is no.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I do have many, many thoughts. We can get into
- 1:28Speaker 3: that later. I will give a lot of credit to
- 1:30Speaker 3: Kansas State, though, in that situation. Yeah, offensive line really
- 1:37Speaker 3: did not show up. And Caden Pinnock got the bleep
- 1:41Speaker 3: beat out of him. And I am impressed by the
- 1:45Speaker 3: way he stayed in that game and still kept trying
- 1:48Speaker 3: to make things happen. Defensively, we were missing our two
- 1:53Speaker 3: starting quarterbacks. So I give them some credit there. And
- 1:58Speaker 3: also Jalen Thomas was the star of the game with
- 2:01Speaker 3: two picks. The first turnover of their entire season. I
- 2:07Speaker 3: know we're only two games in. And then the other
- 2:09Speaker 3: one was a pick six, which was the only points
- 2:12Speaker 3: that they put.
- 2:13Speaker 2: On the board. As articulate as you can state that
- 2:15Speaker 2: for 34-7. losing to kansas state on the road i
- 2:19Speaker 2: know that you maybe didn't want to talk about that
- 2:21Speaker 2: but you couldn't have done it any better i think
- 2:22Speaker 2: thank you speaking of things that hey we don't want
- 2:24Speaker 2: to talk about the mariners stole defeat once again for
- 2:28Speaker 2: the jaws of victory yesterday i think this last show
- 2:32Speaker 2: maybe compared him to uncle skeeter i was already kind
- 2:35Speaker 2: of going over the whole funeral proceedings about probably two
- 2:37Speaker 2: weeks ago.
- 2:38Speaker 4: I think a lot of us were but we're not there.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yet One-run lead into the ninth inning. Andres Munoz, two-run
- 2:46Speaker 2: walk-off homer to Lawrence Butler on a pitch middle-middle to
- 2:50Speaker 2: seal the game for the A's. Second walk-off in three days.
- 2:55Speaker 2: The Mariners on September 14th. They're now five games back
- 2:58Speaker 2: out of the AL West and six games back of
- 3:00Speaker 2: the wild card. In other news, MLB announcing today Julio
- 3:04Speaker 2: Rodriguez is the Mariners' nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award.
- 3:08Speaker 2: That is baseball's most prestigious individual honor. across the major leagues. NFL,
- 3:14Speaker 2: the only NFC West team to play yesterday. The Cardinals
- 3:20Speaker 2: beat the Chargers 26-14. On to the show we go.
- 3:26Speaker 5: The countdown is on.
- 3:27Speaker 1: This is the countdown to Monday Night Football with Greg Bell.
- 3:31Speaker 2: He's going to go into the open field.
- 3:33Speaker 1: As we count you down to tonight's game at 515.
- 3:36Speaker 2: He'll coast in for the touchdown. Brought to you by
- 3:40Speaker 2: Frostbrood Coors Light. Cold as the Rockies. On Sports Radio 93.3,
- 3:45Speaker 2: AJR FM. Broncos and Chiefs coming at you, coming in
- 3:51Speaker 2: hot at 515 as you just heard. Welcome. Greg's off
- 3:55Speaker 2: today for just about a couple of more days in
- 3:58Speaker 2: his chair today. I'm Mike Benton. Hello, YouTubers. 49451 Tacoma
- 4:03Speaker 2: Dodge text line. Get on that right now. Jessamyn's back
- 4:06Speaker 2: from her travels into the great plains of the Midwest
- 4:10Speaker 2: and right behind the glass once again. Good morning to you.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Tornado Alley.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Tornado Alley. Boy, you had an adventure this last weekend.
- 4:16Speaker 4: I sure did. I sure did. Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Flew in to Kansas City, which is in Missouri, for
- 4:23Speaker 3: those who don't know. And then drove about two hours
- 4:28Speaker 3: to Manhattan, Kansas, which was a pretty cool spot to
- 4:31Speaker 3: check out, to be honest.
- 4:33Speaker 4: It's the Pullman of the Midwest.
- 4:35Speaker 2: The Pullman of the Midwest.
- 4:37Speaker 4: That's the way I put it.
- 4:38Speaker 2: So what do you do in Manhattan, Kansas?
- 4:41Speaker 4: Big on barbecue.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I would say that as big as Kansas City. I
- 4:46Speaker 2: don't close enough.
- 4:48Speaker 3: They're just big on it. I don't know it well enough.
- 4:50Speaker 3: It was my first time there. But I would just
- 4:52Speaker 3: say there's barbecue. There's a couple of nice restaurants. And
- 4:57Speaker 3: I know this is a really weird connection. But the
- 5:01Speaker 3: head baseball coach went to Hofstra University.
- 5:06Speaker 4: And that's where my dad coached. So met up with him.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Oh, that's awesome.
- 5:11Speaker 3: But that's like not a regular thing to do in Manhattan, Kansas.
- 5:15Speaker 2: The last time I blew through Kansas or Missouri was
- 5:19Speaker 2: going through Kansas City. And this is like, I want
- 5:23Speaker 2: to say about maybe 20 years, over 20 years ago,
- 5:26Speaker 2: because I was working a baseball job, one of my
- 5:28Speaker 2: first jobs out of college in the Midwest, Dayton Dragons,
- 5:32Speaker 2: shout out, hello, Midwest League. But then when I got
- 5:35Speaker 2: my first hockey job, in the minor leagues. It was
- 5:38Speaker 2: back in California for the Stockton Thunder. And me, at
- 5:41Speaker 2: 24 years of age, on my own, No significant other,
- 5:48Speaker 2: no attachments, nothing. I was still years away from meeting
- 5:51Speaker 2: the future Mrs. Literally, the whole transition period was just
- 5:55Speaker 2: pack up the car. I shared a house with some
- 5:57Speaker 2: buddies I met who went to Wright State University out
- 6:00Speaker 2: in Dayton. Packed the car and said my goodbyes after
- 6:05Speaker 2: the last game of the baseball season and said, I'm
- 6:07Speaker 2: shipping out west again. So I went from Dayton into California,
- 6:13Speaker 2: which was about only a two and a half day trek.
- 6:15Speaker 2: So I cut off about 12, 13 hours a day.
- 6:18Speaker 2: But in that middle of that was a stop for
- 6:21Speaker 2: me in Kansas City. And I had to stop in
- 6:23Speaker 2: Kansas City because of the barbecue.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Well, yes, and I did not spend so much time
- 6:28Speaker 3: in Kansas City because the majority of my time was
- 6:31Speaker 3: spent in Manhattan, Kansas.
- 6:34Speaker 4: And yes, I did.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Get myself some barbecue on my way back. It was
- 6:39Speaker 3: an 11 a.m. local kick, which was 9 a.m. here
- 6:44Speaker 3: in the Pacific.
- 6:47Speaker 2: So here's a burning question. Burnt ends, pulled pork, or
- 6:50Speaker 2: chicken with barbecue sauce on it?
- 6:52Speaker 4: I'm a chicken person.
- 6:52Speaker 2: You're a chicken person?
- 6:53Speaker 5: Okay, that's a good call.
- 6:54Speaker 4: I don't do the pig. I don't do the mammals.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 2: There is a difference because Kansas City barbecue versus Texas
- 7:01Speaker 2: barbecue versus Carolina barbecue. It's all different. Yeah, because it's
- 7:04Speaker 2: all like seasoning. It's all sauced.
- 7:06Speaker 4: And then also the sides can vary.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:09Speaker 4: As well.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Yes. So I did have once I got back to
- 7:15Speaker 3: we drove back, Frank and I. to Kansas City, Missouri,
- 7:21Speaker 3: after the game, which is a two-hour drive, I got
- 7:24Speaker 3: myself a little dinner, and it was absolutely fantastic.
- 7:28Speaker 2: But also, you did this and barely made the plane
- 7:30Speaker 2: on time with your cohort. Let's not bury the lead
- 7:33Speaker 2: here on this.
- 7:33Speaker 3: My cohort, Alex Brink, had a night flight out. I
- 7:37Speaker 3: didn't think I could ever make that flight, so I
- 7:39Speaker 3: didn't book it. I had a hotel by myself for
- 7:43Speaker 3: that night right by the airport, but I.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Was like, we're going to make this.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I dropped him off at the airport at 539 for
- 7:52Speaker 3: a 6 p.m.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Flight.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Oh, my goodness.
- 7:55Speaker 3: And we had— there' s storms everywhere throughout this drive.
- 7:59Speaker 4: I mean, we had a lightning delay in the game.
- 8:02Speaker 4: It delayed it by 45 minutes. 45 minutes!
- 8:06Speaker 3: We would have been golden, because I don't know if
- 8:08Speaker 3: you watched the game— But the first opening drive was
- 8:12Speaker 3: nine minutes by Kansas State, which makes it.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Like it was like.
- 8:16Speaker 2: And there's you checking your watch. Can you speed this
- 8:18Speaker 2: up here? No, it was perfect.
- 8:20Speaker 4: That runs out the clock.
- 8:22Speaker 2: So it was even faster.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Come on.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Let's go. 15 minutes.
- 8:26Speaker 3: First half and i'm like brink like i'm talking to
- 8:28Speaker 3: him through my mic i'm like we're gonna be i'm
- 8:31Speaker 3: getting you to that airport and we were gonna be
- 8:33Speaker 3: so fine and um anyway yeah that 45 minute.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Lightning delay really really.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Uh put a stick in our system and we made
- 8:44Speaker 3: it and so 5 39 p.m.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Dropping him off at the airport and he made his plane.
- 8:50Speaker 6: Oh my.
- 8:51Speaker 4: I was so proud.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Onto the actual like gate or was he actually running
- 8:56Speaker 2: to catch the plane Tom Cruise style? That's my last question.
- 8:59Speaker 3: I think that's pretty illegal unless you're in the CIA
- 9:02Speaker 3: and stuff.
- 9:03Speaker 4: So yeah, he made it before they closed the gate.
- 9:05Speaker 2: All right. Well, you caught a plane. I caught a boat.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I was out of the Huskies game against Utah State.
- 9:12Speaker 2: And my goodness, There were some angry people inside Husky
- 9:17Speaker 2: Stadium two days ago for Utah State. And I'm going
- 9:21Speaker 2: to get to Chris Fetters of Dogman 24-7. Been a
- 9:23Speaker 2: while since we had a chance to talk to him
- 9:25Speaker 2: on these airwaves here. But I think a lot of
- 9:28Speaker 2: us learned a little bit more about the Huskies and
- 9:31Speaker 2: what this 2-0 record means and how much of a
- 9:34Speaker 2: mirage is it. I mean, you tell me, 49451. But
- 9:39Speaker 2: I had never been inside a venue before that in
- 9:43Speaker 2: a long time where the home team wins. And yet
- 9:48Speaker 2: you feel like you walk out and it's a loss
- 9:51Speaker 2: because you're just completely disgusted with how this game unfolded,
- 9:56Speaker 2: how your QB played, how your running back played and,
- 10:00Speaker 2: and how you let a team that was one and
- 10:03Speaker 2: thirty one. May I remind you, 1-31 against Big Ten
- 10:09Speaker 2: opponents all time have the ball in their hands with
- 10:14Speaker 2: a chance to win the game on a Hail Mary play.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Needless to say, I don't think that's how Jed Fish
- 10:22Speaker 2: drew it up. And even Jed Fish's play calling has
- 10:25Speaker 2: come under fire here for this one.
- 10:28Speaker 4: That was a scouting game for me. We play them later.
- 10:31Speaker 2: And they got blown out the week before.
- 10:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And guess who's next here for the Huskies? You think, oh,
- 10:38Speaker 2: Eastern Washington, that's a cupcake. You're like, that's a tough one.
- 10:43Speaker 2: They could give them a run.
- 10:44Speaker 4: EWU is always tough. EWU is always tough.
- 10:48Speaker 3: I'm just saying, there's no gimmies on their schedule anymore,
- 10:52Speaker 3: even though Utah State did look like one.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And when you get cupcake teams, or so to speak,
- 10:59Speaker 2: this is a warm-up period. But, I mean, for 2-0,
- 11:03Speaker 2: it kicked the Huskies out of the top 25 for
- 11:06Speaker 2: the AP side because they looked that bad. They're the
- 11:09Speaker 2: number 24 in the coaches' poll. But is 2-0 really
- 11:12Speaker 2: 2-0 in this case, 4-9-4-5-1? Because the anger inside Husky
- 11:17Speaker 2: Stadium said... This was an offense that many concluded was inept.
- 11:22Speaker 2: There's no running back. You had drop passes all over
- 11:25Speaker 2: the place. Desmond Roebuck drops like a 10-yard pass to
- 11:30Speaker 2: the outside, and it sounds like your 8-year-old son just
- 11:34Speaker 2: dropped a piece of fine china in the kitchen trying
- 11:39Speaker 2: to take the dishes away. DeMond Williams was the only
- 11:42Speaker 2: guy maybe supposedly making things happen, and even then it
- 11:46Speaker 2: was a below-average game for him. So you put the
- 11:50Speaker 2: game into Utah State's hands for the final drive. Not
- 11:54Speaker 2: exactly how you drew things up right here. And let's
- 11:57Speaker 2: just say Utah State pulls this out. Where does that
- 12:00Speaker 2: rank maybe as far as the biggest upset losses in
- 12:02Speaker 2: Huskies history? I mean, I go back and think of
- 12:05Speaker 2: the Montana loss five years ago, the Dylan Morris game
- 12:08Speaker 2: where he had three picks. Is up there with the
- 12:11Speaker 2: Apple Cup of 1982 in Pullman. I mean, too many
- 12:14Speaker 2: questions on this Jetfish team that's got way too many
- 12:17Speaker 2: holes here. So we're going to get to Chris Fedders
- 12:19Speaker 2: of Dogman 24-7 in just a bit. That comes your
- 12:22Speaker 2: way in about a few moments. 1045, Jess and I
- 12:25Speaker 2: have some thoughts on Holly Roe versus Steve Sarkeesian.
- 12:29Speaker 4: We sure do.
- 12:30Speaker 2: And did you watch this on ABC two nights ago?
- 12:34Speaker 2: It was one of the most grand comebacks that we've
- 12:36Speaker 2: seen in a long time. That was an amazing comeback.
- 12:39Speaker 2: In Texas history, first time since I think 1950 that
- 12:41Speaker 2: they beat a number one team on home soil. And yet.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Who's at fault here, Holly Rowe or Steve Sarkeesian? Jess
- 12:50Speaker 2: and I have got some perspective on this. We've done
- 12:52Speaker 2: some boots on the ground. You do this basically for,
- 12:54Speaker 2: you know, your other job.
- 12:58Speaker 4: I'm 15 seasons in.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I've done this before. It was my first job as
- 13:01Speaker 2: far as being a paid job out of college. And
- 13:03Speaker 2: then I did this as well for the Winter Classic
- 13:05Speaker 2: besides my host duties. So who's in the wrong here
- 13:08Speaker 2: at 1045 plus 11 a.m.? Can you believe it? Kraken
- 13:12Speaker 2: training camp is upon us. Rookies are just wrapping things
- 13:15Speaker 2: up here in about a couple of days. But the
- 13:17Speaker 2: big boys come in on Thursday and then this weekend.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Can you believe it? Preseason is upon us. So John Forslund,
- 13:26Speaker 2: the one and only, joining us to talk about realistic expectations. Plus,
- 13:31Speaker 2: I've got some thoughts and some conversation with him coming tonight.
- 13:35Speaker 2: on Matty Beneers' reaction to Jason Robertson turning down the Kraken.
- 13:40Speaker 2: And let's just say Matty Beneers told The Athletic in
- 13:44Speaker 2: some way to mirror Michael Jordan from the documentary The
- 13:48Speaker 2: Last Dance. I took that personally. In the meantime, Chris
- 13:52Speaker 2: Federer's up next here on 93.3 KJRFM. 11.35, don't forget,
- 14:09Speaker 2: Factor Fiction presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. I'm
- 14:14Speaker 2: putting Jess on the spot. She's got the spotlight for
- 14:16Speaker 2: the pick of the day.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Oh, boy.
- 14:18Speaker 2: If you like it, text FACT to 49451. If you
- 14:21Speaker 2: hate it, text FICTION to 49451. Jess, as always, brought
- 14:26Speaker 2: the knowledge. Letter perfect.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I mean, I was 50-50 last night. 50-50 last week.
- 14:32Speaker 2: You're back on the horse, though.
- 14:33Speaker 4: But I hedged because my team won.
- 14:36Speaker 2: You're back on the horse. A chance for you to
- 14:37Speaker 2: win $ 1, 000 again. Factor Fiction presented by Lucky Eagle Casino
- 14:42Speaker 2: and Hotel. 49451 Tacoma Dodge Text Line. We're also taking
- 14:46Speaker 2: your top backs, by the way, on the iHeartRadio app.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Very easy, very simple. Find the iHeartRadio app. Find KJR.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Hit the red mic icon. Record your thoughts. 30 seconds
- 14:56Speaker 2: or less. Boom, you're done. If you were at the
- 15:00Speaker 2: game two days ago for the Huskies who beat Utah
- 15:03Speaker 2: State by the hair of their chinny-chin-chin, how'd you walk
- 15:07Speaker 2: out of the greatest setting feeling 2-0? Give me your talkbacks. 49451,
- 15:12Speaker 2: also Tacoma Dodge text line. Without further ado, this guy's
- 15:16Speaker 2: all over it, Chris Fedders of Dogman247 joining us on
- 15:20Speaker 2: the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Again, Mike in for Greg Bell today. Chris,
- 15:24Speaker 2: great to have you. Hope you're doing well. And if
- 15:27Speaker 2: I can ask you maybe to kind of compare football
- 15:30Speaker 2: records to ice cream, and this ranges from like the
- 15:32Speaker 2: most delectable vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream flavor, what have you,
- 15:37Speaker 2: to something that tastes like rancid eggnog. Huskies at 2-0,
- 15:41Speaker 2: what kind of flavor are we talking about?
- 15:45Speaker 5: Rocky Road?
- 15:47Speaker 2: Oh, so you don't like a Rocky Road then?
- 15:50Speaker 8: I'm not, I'm not a rocky road guy myself. I
- 15:53Speaker 8: like the smoother flavors, but yeah, it's.
- 15:58Speaker 5: It's, it's really, it's different.
- 15:59Speaker 8: It's difficult for me to really assess it because after
- 16:03Speaker 8: two games, the offense has been so bad, but the
- 16:06Speaker 8: defense has been very, very good. So it's, you know,
- 16:10Speaker 8: you try to look at this thing holistically and like, okay,
- 16:13Speaker 8: the team itself.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:15Speaker 8: They're two and oh, they've got two wins. Everything seems
- 16:18Speaker 8: to be fine on that score. Yet, obviously, everyone just
- 16:21Speaker 8: wants to focus on the offense and just how bad
- 16:23Speaker 8: it's been. And I took a look really quick this morning,
- 16:27Speaker 8: and I figured it out that based on the amount
- 16:29Speaker 8: of points that Washington has scored the last two games
- 16:33Speaker 8: compared to the non-conference slate that they had last year, guys,
- 16:38Speaker 8: they would have to score 127 points this weekend against
- 16:42Speaker 8: Eastern to score the same number of points that they
- 16:45Speaker 8: had in their three non-conference games last year.
- 16:48Speaker 2: So you're going to take the under on that.
- 16:50Speaker 5: So just in case anyone's interested for.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Those screaming hot takes, screaming hot takes here on this one. So, yeah,
- 16:57Speaker 2: you're just saying that they have some work to do
- 16:59Speaker 2: heading into eastern Washington. But I mean, I love the
- 17:03Speaker 2: point that you made about the defense, because, I mean,
- 17:04Speaker 2: Gary Broasterhouse, you know, forced into three picks in that game.
- 17:09Speaker 2: The defense takes care of the job with defending the
- 17:11Speaker 2: Hail Mary in the very last play, though I know
- 17:14Speaker 2: that we all knew that that's not exactly what the
- 17:17Speaker 2: Huskies had in mind to wrap up a game like that.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Yet a 2-0 team we're talking about is now kicked
- 17:22Speaker 2: out of the AP Top 25 after winning for the
- 17:26Speaker 2: first time since 2014, but do you think the fallout
- 17:30Speaker 2: was deserved?
- 17:32Speaker 5: Oh, 100% it's deserved. There's no doubt about it.
- 17:35Speaker 8: And if you talk to a man in that locker room,
- 17:39Speaker 8: they'll say it's deserved. You know, the offensive guys know
- 17:42Speaker 8: they're just not getting the job done right now for
- 17:44Speaker 8: whatever reason. And they've got this weekend to figure it out.
- 17:48Speaker 8: And then obviously they've got to host Minnesota the following
- 17:52Speaker 8: weekend after that.
- 17:53Speaker 5: And then the thing really, really ramps up. I mean,
- 17:56Speaker 5: Minnesota is going to be tough.
- 17:58Speaker 8: I know they took a big step back this weekend,
- 18:00Speaker 8: losing to Mississippi State at home. But, you know, don't
- 18:03Speaker 8: ever count out a PGA flag team. I mean, those
- 18:05Speaker 8: guys are definitely going to be ready to come and
- 18:08Speaker 8: play in Seattle. But there's no question that obviously the
- 18:11Speaker 8: panic stations are on.
- 18:13Speaker 5: All the alarms are on for the offense.
- 18:14Speaker 8: And everyone's trying to figure out, you know, where the
- 18:17Speaker 8: genesis is of the rot and everything else and what's
- 18:21Speaker 8: the problem.
- 18:21Speaker 5: And I think it's just simply a matter it starts
- 18:24Speaker 5: up front.
- 18:25Speaker 8: And once they figured out those issues, then I think
- 18:27Speaker 8: everything else kind of flows with that. But that being said, Mike,
- 18:31Speaker 8: It's very difficult when you're DeMond Williams, and the first
- 18:34Speaker 8: game of the season, you lose your top two running backs,
- 18:37Speaker 8: you lose one of your top three receivers, and then
- 18:41Speaker 8: the next game, you lose another one of your top
- 18:43Speaker 8: three receivers.
- 18:45Speaker 5: It's just, you cannot... go.
- 18:48Speaker 8: Through an entire season losing your top skill guys when
- 18:52Speaker 8: you can't move the ball to begin with.
- 18:54Speaker 5: That's an absolute death sentence.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I mean, when you talk about losing skill positions, it
- 18:57Speaker 2: certainly reduces what DeMond Williams can do. As Chris Fetter
- 19:00Speaker 2: is joining us right now on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline
- 19:02Speaker 2: from dogman 24 7 but that combined the third down
- 19:06Speaker 2: struggles we saw the red zone problems the drop passes
- 19:09Speaker 2: he had drive stalling penalties as well so all that
- 19:13Speaker 2: factoring in plus the losses at the skill positions what's
- 19:16Speaker 2: your biggest concern right now for the offense through two.
- 19:19Speaker 8: Weeks well to me it always boils down to execution
- 19:24Speaker 8: i i'm really first of all i'm not in any
- 19:27Speaker 8: way educated enough to be able to second guess jed
- 19:31Speaker 8: fish when it comes to play calling or any coach
- 19:34Speaker 8: when it comes to play calling i don't care if
- 19:35Speaker 8: you're an offensive coordinator if you're the head coach play
- 19:37Speaker 8: caller whoever you are i i'm not i don't work
- 19:41Speaker 8: at that level i just don't i look at what
- 19:44Speaker 8: happens on the field and what's happening is is the
- 19:47Speaker 8: execution just isn't there but it's also compounding when it's
- 19:51Speaker 8: happening at the most opportune moments. Like for instance, I
- 19:55Speaker 8: look back at the second quarter and I saw a
- 19:57Speaker 8: simple play where, you know, Demond Williams found Desmond Roebuck
- 20:01Speaker 8: down on field to get him right outside the red zone,
- 20:03Speaker 8: Utah State. I think it was around the 22, 23
- 20:06Speaker 8: yard line. And then that very next play on first down,
- 20:09Speaker 8: they've got, they go back to pass again. And you've
- 20:12Speaker 8: got like a little simple stunt, a little twist on
- 20:15Speaker 8: the left side from Utah State going up against Washington's
- 20:18Speaker 8: most experienced offensive lineman in Gurren Hatchett and Drew as
- 20:21Speaker 8: a party. And they get absolutely abused and they sacked
- 20:25Speaker 8: them on and Utah State sacks Demond Williams.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Takes them out, and eventually they have to kick a
- 20:30Speaker 5: field goal.
- 20:30Speaker 8: So when you're on the cusp of getting in that
- 20:32Speaker 8: red zone, you've got to attack.
- 20:34Speaker 5: You've got to keep pushing further.
- 20:36Speaker 8: And last week when it was Washington State, it was
- 20:39Speaker 8: penalties taking them out. Well, they solved the penalty issue
- 20:43Speaker 8: against Utah State. They had half as many penalties, 6-12
- 20:46Speaker 8: against Washington State. But the problem is they had other
- 20:51Speaker 8: things that were taking them out of field position in
- 20:54Speaker 8: inopportune moments, and that was really taking away their ability
- 20:58Speaker 8: to score.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Before I get to the defense, you mentioned how just
- 21:01Speaker 2: given the fact that just how much the offense has
- 21:04Speaker 2: looked just completely stale, the defense deserves their flowers. And
- 21:07Speaker 2: I'll get to those guys here in a bit, but
- 21:09Speaker 2: just more on the run game, because with Jonah Coleman
- 21:11Speaker 2: out of the mix now, Trey Cooley, 11 carries, 23 yards.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Your biggest rusher this last week was DeMond, who had
- 21:17Speaker 2: 6.5 yards per carry. So what do you make out
- 21:20Speaker 2: of the run game right now? Well, yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 8: No, I mean, if you take DeMond's numbers, rushing numbers,
- 21:27Speaker 8: out of it completely, Washington's running backs are averaging basically
- 21:31Speaker 8: 20 to 25 yards a game running the ball. And
- 21:34Speaker 8: Jed Fish addressed this after the game, saying it's absolutely unacceptable.
- 21:38Speaker 5: You cannot run.
- 21:39Speaker 8: An offense when your running backs are only accounting for
- 21:42Speaker 8: roughly a third of what your quarterback is giving you
- 21:46Speaker 8: in terms of running the ball. And DeMond Williams, I
- 21:51Speaker 8: know he wants to get pigeonholed, or I know people
- 21:53Speaker 8: want to pigeonhole him as a dual threat guy, but
- 21:56Speaker 8: he really doesn't want to be a dual threat guy.
- 21:58Speaker 8: He wants to use his legs to escape and to scramble,
- 22:02Speaker 8: but he wants to be able to start his– his
- 22:05Speaker 8: abilities as a pocket passer first and foremost, and that's
- 22:09Speaker 8: what Jed Fish wants as well. So when you take
- 22:14Speaker 8: all those things out of it, the run game has
- 22:17Speaker 8: been so ineffective. that it really has limited Jed Fish
- 22:20Speaker 8: to what he can do offensively down the field. He's
- 22:23Speaker 8: having to try to generate offense via little screens and
- 22:27Speaker 8: via little quick plays out to the flats and things
- 22:29Speaker 8: like that, which is just gonna frustrate fans even more
- 22:32Speaker 8: because he's like, why are they just.
- 22:34Speaker 5: Doing these little dink and dunk things? Well, those are
- 22:37Speaker 5: just extended handoffs.
- 22:39Speaker 8: And he's gotta figure out a way to supplement the
- 22:41Speaker 8: game at the line of scrimmage with what's going on
- 22:44Speaker 8: down the field. And clearly, if they can't get anything
- 22:47Speaker 8: done at the line, That's going to affect everything going
- 22:50Speaker 8: on downfield, and that's kind of what we've seen already
- 22:52Speaker 8: through two games.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Someone suggested there's a confidence issue right now with DeMond,
- 22:56Speaker 2: and whether you want to believe that or not, do
- 22:59Speaker 2: you think that a better game or numbers are coming,
- 23:02Speaker 2: whether it might be from a better run game or
- 23:04Speaker 2: just even less drop passes, simply put?
- 23:08Speaker 8: Well, it's interesting because I know a lot of people,
- 23:12Speaker 8: and this is every fan.
- 23:13Speaker 5: I mean, I would do it too.
- 23:15Speaker 8: You want to look at whether the quarterback is improving
- 23:18Speaker 8: or regressing and what have you, but they're all interconnected, right?
- 23:22Speaker 8: I mean, everything happens. The line of scrimmage is going
- 23:25Speaker 8: to affect what the quarterback can do. Having the available
- 23:28Speaker 8: skill players is going to affect what the quarterback can do.
- 23:31Speaker 8: All I know is DeMond Williams is by far far,
- 23:34Speaker 8: by far, I mean, by a factor of 10, the
- 23:38Speaker 8: best offensive weapon that Washington has right now. And I
- 23:41Speaker 8: know that that's going to end up sounding like damning
- 23:44Speaker 8: with faint praise because Washington is so bad offensively. But
- 23:48Speaker 8: the simple fact is, is that if the skill guys
- 23:51Speaker 8: can't get open, if the skill guys can't produce situations
- 23:55Speaker 8: where they can beat blockers one-on-one, if they can't get
- 23:59Speaker 8: yards after the catch, if they can't do those types
- 24:02Speaker 8: of things to help the quarterback help them, then you're
- 24:06Speaker 8: basically just putting the quarterback on an island and it's
- 24:08Speaker 8: a jailbreak on every play and say, have at it,
- 24:11Speaker 8: see what you can do.
- 24:12Speaker 5: So I understand it. On Dogman, we had a thread.
- 24:16Speaker 8: Going right, in fact, we have it going on right
- 24:17Speaker 8: now saying, is DeMond better than last year? And I
- 24:21Speaker 8: just simply find it so hard to to really create
- 24:25Speaker 8: a cogent argument for or against because everything is based,
- 24:30Speaker 8: what is affected by everybody around him affects him. and
- 24:35Speaker 8: vice versa it's like it's all whole it's all connected
- 24:39Speaker 8: and it's it's just really hard to break down one
- 24:41Speaker 8: individual performance when the whole thing is kind.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Of broken we're hanging out right now with chris fetters
- 24:46Speaker 2: of dog man 24 7 on the beacon plumbing hotline
- 24:49Speaker 2: and defensively let's finally touch on these guys here chris
- 24:52Speaker 2: it's pretty clear alex mclaughlin uh drove the bus nine
- 24:57Speaker 2: total tackles two sacks as well but who else gets
- 25:00Speaker 2: your flowers for for that day two days.
- 25:02Speaker 5: Ago Well, first of all, I think it starts with
- 25:05Speaker 5: Ryan Walters.
- 25:05Speaker 8: I think Ryan Walters put together a phenomenal, uh, you know,
- 25:08Speaker 8: game plans, both games, every defensive coordinator I've ever talked
- 25:12Speaker 8: to since starting this job, you know, back in the
- 25:15Speaker 8: late nineties to early two thousands, they've always told me, Hey,
- 25:17Speaker 8: the number one job of the defense to get the
- 25:19Speaker 8: ball back. And they, and they primarily want to get
- 25:22Speaker 8: the ball back via turnover. Well, Washington right now is
- 25:25Speaker 8: top three nationally in turnover ratio.
- 25:28Speaker 5: They haven't given.
- 25:29Speaker 8: The ball over at all, which is another thing we
- 25:31Speaker 8: need to talk about offensively. For as bad as they've been,
- 25:33Speaker 8: they haven't compounded their problems with those, with turnovers. But
- 25:37Speaker 8: Washington's gotten six turnovers, two games, which is, you know,
- 25:41Speaker 8: Ryan Walters is like, if we can average three turnovers
- 25:44Speaker 8: a game, we're going to be in good shape.
- 25:46Speaker 5: So we got to start with that.
- 25:48Speaker 8: And then secondly, I think they've been getting some pressure inside.
- 25:52Speaker 8: I think that the defensive line has done a nice job.
- 25:54Speaker 8: I'd like to see a little bit more with the
- 25:56Speaker 8: edge guys, but I think, you know, like a true freshman,
- 25:59Speaker 8: like Ramzan Fruin, Ramzak Fruin, he's getting into it. He's
- 26:02Speaker 8: kind of figuring things out. They eliminated a lot of the,
- 26:06Speaker 8: you know, the personal fouls, the unsportsmanlike type stuff when.
- 26:10Speaker 5: They had it in the Apple Cup.
- 26:12Speaker 8: I think they only had one in the Utah State game,
- 26:15Speaker 8: and I think that came after like 57 game minutes.
- 26:18Speaker 5: So that was a massive improvement.
- 26:20Speaker 8: But yes, besides McLaughlin, you know, it was tough not
- 26:24Speaker 8: seeing Alenius Davis in there. But I thought that the
- 26:27Speaker 8: other guys like Derrick Conley, Derrick Coleman, Brusa, Deshaun Watts,
- 26:31Speaker 8: Omar Khan, I think those interior guys really stepped up
- 26:34Speaker 8: and played a good job with Alenius not inside there.
- 26:38Speaker 8: I would say also the inside linebackers really drive the
- 26:40Speaker 8: bus on the defense when you're talking about Jacob Manu, Budalukta,
- 26:45Speaker 8: X-Ray Alexander, Zadris Rainey-Soleil. Those guys have really, really played
- 26:50Speaker 8: well and have really kind of solidified everything that's going
- 26:54Speaker 8: on defensively. So, yeah, I think that's obviously the thing
- 26:58Speaker 8: that's keeping them afloat right now. But we thought that
- 27:01Speaker 8: defense was going to be pretty good. And for people
- 27:03Speaker 8: that don't know about Ryan Walters' history, Mike, He turned
- 27:07Speaker 8: a top 25, top 30 defense in Illinois in year
- 27:11Speaker 8: one when he was there to arguably the top defense
- 27:14Speaker 8: in the entire country the following season.
- 27:17Speaker 5: So we've been talking about it. Can Ryan Walters do
- 27:19Speaker 5: the same thing at Washington?
- 27:21Speaker 8: Well, so far, they're clearly not the number one defense
- 27:23Speaker 8: in the country, but I think he can turn them
- 27:25Speaker 8: into a definite maybe top 10 if they start really
- 27:28Speaker 8: shoring up some things. And, you know, you've got to
- 27:31Speaker 8: avoid the injury bug. That's the hard thing. He lost
- 27:33Speaker 8: to Linnaeus Davis for a game. We'll see if he
- 27:36Speaker 8: comes back this weekend. You lose Emmanuel Carnley, one of
- 27:38Speaker 8: the starting corners against Utah State. We'll see if he
- 27:42Speaker 8: comes back for Eastern. We don't really know. Jed Fish
- 27:45Speaker 8: will tell us a little bit later on today in
- 27:47Speaker 8: his weekly press conference. But you just you have to
- 27:50Speaker 8: stay healthy in order to to really allow these guys
- 27:53Speaker 8: to tick and kind of do what they got to do.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Chris, let's go through the Huskies' remaining schedule here at
- 27:59Speaker 2: this point. Eastern Washington, then followed by Minnesota at USC,
- 28:05Speaker 2: home against 18th-ranked Iowa, at Purdue, at Nebraska, home against
- 28:09Speaker 2: Penn State, at Michigan State, home against Indiana, and then
- 28:15Speaker 2: at Oregon. So 11 games remaining. How many of these
- 28:19Speaker 2: do you actually make the Huskies the favorites?
- 28:23Speaker 5: Well, I think they will be favored against Minnesota. I
- 28:26Speaker 5: do see that being pretty realistic.
- 28:30Speaker 8: Iowa could be more of a toss-up depending on what
- 28:33Speaker 8: we see with them and obviously what happens with Washington
- 28:36Speaker 8: when they go down to L.A.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Depending on the result of that, we'll see how that
- 28:41Speaker 5: line moves.
- 28:43Speaker 8: At Purdue, even though it's an away game, I would
- 28:46Speaker 8: expect them to be favored against Purdue. At Nebraska, don't
- 28:50Speaker 8: think they would be favored, especially on, that's a.
- 28:52Speaker 5: Halloween game, Mike.
- 28:54Speaker 8: Who knows what the House of Wars, as far as
- 28:55Speaker 8: I'm concerned.
- 28:56Speaker 5: That could be an absolute disaster.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Careful if there's like a black cat in a ladder
- 29:01Speaker 2: like in the tunnel.
- 29:03Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 29:04Speaker 5: Well, you know, black shirts, right? So you got that going.
- 29:07Speaker 8: And then November 7th, the Penn State don't necessarily see
- 29:11Speaker 8: them favored. But again, there's so many results in front
- 29:15Speaker 8: of them that we have to figure out that that
- 29:16Speaker 8: could end up being a pick-em game. At Michigan State, again,
- 29:20Speaker 8: another one, even though it's away, could be a pick-em,
- 29:22Speaker 8: could be a slight favorite.
- 29:23Speaker 5: You don't know.
- 29:24Speaker 8: The only two or the only three I would think
- 29:27Speaker 8: for absolute sure they're going to not be favored in
- 29:31Speaker 8: is at USC.
- 29:32Speaker 5: At Oregon, the very end of the season, and then
- 29:34Speaker 5: at home against Indiana.
- 29:35Speaker 8: I just don't think Indiana is going to stumble that
- 29:37Speaker 8: much in their remaining games tonight.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Be a favorite in that game.
- 29:41Speaker 8: So, you know, three games where they almost surely won't
- 29:44Speaker 8: be a favorite, but then you've got five other games
- 29:47Speaker 8: where they're probably pick them or six games where they're
- 29:50Speaker 8: probably pick them or a slight favorites at the, and
- 29:53Speaker 8: maybe at the worst.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Do you think a 21-point blowout over Eastern Washington this
- 29:58Speaker 2: next week or more puts them back in the top 25?
- 30:02Speaker 5: No, I don't think so. I don't think so.
- 30:05Speaker 8: It was funny because I know a lot of people
- 30:07Speaker 8: were looking at the relative thing of what happened with
- 30:10Speaker 8: Oregon losing and then Washington getting bounced as well from
- 30:13Speaker 8: the top 25. And I was thinking, because people are saying,
- 30:17Speaker 8: would a blowout win over Portland State kind of you know,
- 30:20Speaker 8: rehabilitate Oregon's kind of perception and everyone naturally like, no, no, no,
- 30:24Speaker 8: of course not. So obviously I don't think a big
- 30:27Speaker 8: win over Eastern Washington is going to rehabilitate anything as
- 30:29Speaker 8: far as Washington's concerned. But what I thought was interesting
- 30:32Speaker 8: is I thought I looked at Eastern Washington and I
- 30:34Speaker 8: looked at Bill Connolly's SP plus rankings. Cause he's the
- 30:37Speaker 8: one that does like everybody in the country, like all
- 30:40Speaker 8: 700 plus, you know, college football teams of every level.
- 30:46Speaker 8: And he had Eastern Washington, I think, at 188th ranked
- 30:49Speaker 8: in the country. And I think Washington's like 33rd. I
- 30:52Speaker 8: think he had Oregon 9th or what have you. And
- 30:54Speaker 8: I said, well, I'm kind of curious. What's up with
- 30:56Speaker 8: Portland State? Portland State's at 292th. So yeah, I don't think,
- 31:01Speaker 8: I think, I think Oregon's could suit up their coaches
- 31:04Speaker 8: and probably win that game. So I just don't see,
- 31:07Speaker 8: I don't see a big, I don't see a big
- 31:09Speaker 8: win over Eastern Washington rehabilitate, rehabilitate anything. Now beating Minnesota
- 31:13Speaker 8: would absolutely get them back. Even like, even like a
- 31:16Speaker 8: three point win over Minnesota would get them back in
- 31:19Speaker 8: the top 25.
- 31:20Speaker 5: I don't think there's any doubt about that.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Hey, finally, I hosted the Dog Man boat cruise heading
- 31:25Speaker 2: into Husky Stadium this last weekend, and it put folks
- 31:28Speaker 2: in a better mood once we went through the scoreboard
- 31:30Speaker 2: and reminded them of who won the Oregon-Oklahoma State game. So,
- 31:34Speaker 2: I mean, I think to you, Chris, how big a
- 31:37Speaker 2: blow and tell was that on Oregon?
- 31:40Speaker 5: Well, you know, I just watched the highlights. Like, I
- 31:44Speaker 5: didn't watch the whole game.
- 31:45Speaker 8: I just had enough time when I got home to
- 31:47Speaker 8: watch the highlights, because like everyone else, I was I
- 31:50Speaker 8: was at the stadium, obviously, for the Utah State game,
- 31:53Speaker 8: so I was pretty shocked when I saw the result.
- 31:55Speaker 8: But then watching the highlights, I agree 100% with Dan Lanning, actually.
- 31:59Speaker 8: I think that game could have been a lot worse
- 32:01Speaker 8: for Oregon. Because you look at their first couple things,
- 32:05Speaker 8: and then you look at the way they scored. Their
- 32:07Speaker 8: first touchdown was that 95, 96-yard interception return. And then
- 32:11Speaker 8: their next, and then their next touchdown was on an
- 32:14Speaker 8: interception that got him down to the one yard line.
- 32:16Speaker 8: So they scored 14 points and they literally had one
- 32:19Speaker 8: offensive yards in both of those drives.
- 32:22Speaker 5: So it could have been an absolute disaster. for Oregon.
- 32:25Speaker 5: So I don't know where they go from there, but
- 32:27Speaker 5: I don't cover Oregon. You'd have to ask an Oregon
- 32:29Speaker 5: guy to figure that one out.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Well, we appreciate you. We admire you. We respect you.
- 32:33Speaker 2: And certainly anytime we can get you back in these airwaves, man,
- 32:36Speaker 2: it's a better time here for us. So Chris, thank
- 32:38Speaker 2: you very much. Appreciate you. And for the good folks
- 32:41Speaker 2: still looking for more great bits on the Huskies, tell
- 32:44Speaker 2: us where they can find your work.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Dogman.com, D-A-W-G-M-A-N.com.
- 32:50Speaker 8: And Twitter at Chris underscore Fedders, F as in Frank, E-T-T-E-R-S.
- 32:56Speaker 5: And go Kraken.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Go Kraken. I appreciate you, man. Thank you. We'll talk
- 32:59Speaker 2: to you then. We'll talk to you soon.
- 33:00Speaker 5: Thanks, Frank.
- 33:01Speaker 2: That's Chris Fedders of Dogman247. Up next, we have a
- 33:06Speaker 2: little bit of Holly Roe and Steve Sarkeesian. Did you
- 33:08Speaker 2: watch the Texas-Ohio State game? I got some thoughts. Jess
- 33:13Speaker 2: has some thoughts. That's up next on 93.3 KJRFM. Once again,
- 33:35Speaker 2: Factor Fiction presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel coming
- 33:39Speaker 2: up at 11.35. Jessamyn's got the spotlight. She's got your pick.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Text fact. Oh, it's going to be a good one.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Text fact if you like it. I went 50-50. The 49451.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Text fiction.
- 33:50Speaker 3: 11.35.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Don't do it right now.
- 33:52Speaker 2: If you hate it, 49451. Again, that coming up at 11.35.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Your chance to, by the way, win $ 1, 000. Factor Fiction
- 34:00Speaker 2: is presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. Chris Fetters,
- 34:03Speaker 2: by the way, joining us from Dogman 24-7. Big thanks
- 34:06Speaker 2: to him. After the Huskies, again, narrowly escaped by the
- 34:10Speaker 2: hair of their chinny-chin-chin. How'd you feel walking out of
- 34:13Speaker 2: the stadium if you were there? What were your thoughts
- 34:15Speaker 2: on the Huskies, as raging as they are or as
- 34:19Speaker 2: serene as they could be? 4-9-4-5-1, Takamadosh text line. But
- 34:22Speaker 2: better yet, I want to hear your talk back, so
- 34:24Speaker 2: get them into us right now. via the iHeartRadio app,
- 34:27Speaker 2: hit the red mic icon, keep it under 30 seconds,
- 34:31Speaker 2: and you're done.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Everyone knows on this show, I love them.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Yes, Jess can't get enough of thumbing through these, and
- 34:37Speaker 2: they have left her in stitches before.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Yes, they have.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Some of you impersonating some folks in this building.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Very, very creative.
- 34:44Speaker 2: I can't wait. I enjoy it. Does someone have me
- 34:48Speaker 2: in them? I've heard me before.
- 34:49Speaker 4: I have heard you.
- 34:50Speaker 2: I've heard Furious Feltz or FIFA Feltz.
- 34:52Speaker 4: I've heard the captain.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I've heard FIFA. I've heard Ian. I think Chuck's been,
- 34:57Speaker 2: I think someone's done Chuck also. Someone definitely has done Softie.
- 35:01Speaker 2: But we'll get to your talkbacks.
- 35:03Speaker 4: There's a lot of softies that do come in.
- 35:05Speaker 2: I did want to go from the Huskies thing into
- 35:08Speaker 2: this next thing because Alyssa Charlson-Smith, who is a total
- 35:10Speaker 2: pro and also a friend of mine and you as well,
- 35:13Speaker 2: couldn't have handled the Jed Fish postgame interview any better.
- 35:17Speaker 2: And Jed was in a very grumpy mood on Big
- 35:19Speaker 2: Ten Network. But Alyssa, straightforward, clean, crisp, professional, cut right
- 35:24Speaker 2: out of the chase, read the room, and I thought
- 35:26Speaker 2: just laid out How 2-0 could still feel like there's
- 35:30Speaker 2: a big old cloud kind of hanging over your head.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Direct stark contrast to what happened between Holly Rowe and
- 35:38Speaker 2: Steve Sarkeesian. Did all of you listen to this at
- 35:42Speaker 2: the end of the Texas-Ohio State game on Saturday night?
- 35:47Speaker 2: To tee this up for you, Texas is losing 20-3
- 35:52Speaker 2: at halftime. ESPN tried to get Steve Sarkeesian for a
- 35:56Speaker 2: walk-off with Laura Rutledge. And they didn't go to him
- 35:59Speaker 2: because by the time they cut to Laura, he had
- 36:02Speaker 2: already left. He had gone into the room. And she
- 36:06Speaker 2: basically was as transparent as it got, saying technical issues.
- 36:09Speaker 2: She was up front with owing him an apology on
- 36:12Speaker 2: behalf of the network. Because, I mean, it's halftime. I mean, Jess,
- 36:15Speaker 2: you would know for your job with Washington State. I've
- 36:18Speaker 2: done this also for the Winter Classic. You get a lock-off.
- 36:21Speaker 2: It's expected that once that player or coach joins you,
- 36:24Speaker 2: mic in hand, You are ready to go maybe in
- 36:26Speaker 2: about 15 seconds or less.
- 36:28Speaker 4: It's their time, not ours.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Yes.
- 36:30Speaker 2: So you are running on borrowed time to get them
- 36:33Speaker 2: on the air and get them out because it then
- 36:36Speaker 2: begins to impede on what they have to do on
- 36:39Speaker 2: a professional level. Fourth quarter, Texas completes a historic comeback,
- 36:45Speaker 2: 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. I'm shocked that
- 36:48Speaker 2: fans at Austin didn't storm the field, tear the goalposts down.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Like they did at Oklahoma State.
- 36:54Speaker 2: But I guess, you know, then again, it wasn't a
- 36:57Speaker 2: massive upset. And plus, also, you give credit to, as well,
- 37:00Speaker 2: great security they had. But you had Arch Manning singing
- 37:04Speaker 2: with the crowd. You had Matthew McConaughey mugging for the camera,
- 37:07Speaker 2: cowboy hat in hand, 2% body fat. And then all
- 37:14Speaker 2: of a sudden they cut to Holly row right here
- 37:16Speaker 2: with Steve Sarkeesian.
- 37:23Speaker 5: That's it.
- 37:23Speaker 2: We, we, we didn't cut into this like midway through
- 37:26Speaker 2: the intros. Let's this is actually the, the, the, the,
- 37:31Speaker 2: the entire complete interview when they said, let's go to
- 37:34Speaker 2: Holly row. Yeah. Well, that didn't go exactly as planned.
- 37:44Speaker 4: It did not.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Six whopping seconds of Steve Sarkeesian looking into the camera saying,
- 37:50Speaker 2: hook him, and then Holly Roe gives him the side
- 37:53Speaker 2: eye and walks away. Texas said there were ESPN audio
- 37:57Speaker 2: issues again that led up to this. If you want
- 38:01Speaker 2: to believe it, yes or no, 49451. And Jess, you
- 38:05Speaker 2: do this every week.
- 38:06Speaker 6: So.
- 38:08Speaker 2: There's a difference in how you handle a postgame interview
- 38:11Speaker 2: versus halftime. The game's over. If you win, you've got
- 38:14Speaker 2: all the time in the world, apparently.
- 38:16Speaker 3: I mean, you do, and you do want to go
- 38:18Speaker 3: celebrate with your team. I have, I mean, I worked
- 38:22Speaker 3: with Mike Leach, the longest coach that I worked with
- 38:25Speaker 3: as a sideline reporter, right? Um, he, I, when he
- 38:29Speaker 3: got the job at Washington state, there were games that
- 38:32Speaker 3: were going to be aired on ESPN. Now he had
- 38:35Speaker 3: a big lawsuit going on against ESPN. And I remember
- 38:39Speaker 3: I give way to television to do their interview first.
- 38:42Speaker 3: If it's at halftime or post game, um, television gets
- 38:47Speaker 3: the way that's just how it is.
- 38:48Speaker 4: I do radio.
- 38:50Speaker 3: And I remember, um, Joe Schad at the time was
- 38:54Speaker 3: working for ESPN, and he was doing a game.
- 38:56Speaker 4: He goes, well, he's not going to talk to me.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Go for it.
- 39:00Speaker 3: So I can understand because Steve Sarkeesian, with his past,
- 39:04Speaker 3: has gotten raked over the coals by ESPN. So I
- 39:08Speaker 3: also understand why someone might be like, yeah, no, and
- 39:11Speaker 3: it might not be a Holly thing. It might be
- 39:13Speaker 3: a network thing. I have no idea. I just know
- 39:17Speaker 3: what I have dealt with in the past. But I've also...
- 39:21Speaker 3: been running down the sidelines. It was an ongoing joke
- 39:25Speaker 3: about how Mike Leach does not want to do these interviews.
- 39:29Speaker 3: And I don't think that it's the worst thing that
- 39:32Speaker 3: Coach wants to go celebrate with his team, but it's
- 39:35Speaker 3: also an opportunity for him to celebrate his team to
- 39:39Speaker 3: a national audience. And I think he missed that mark.
- 39:44Speaker 3: I do think he missed that mark.
- 39:46Speaker 2: So who's in the wrong here?
- 39:48Speaker 6: 49451.
- 39:49Speaker 2: And I've done these before. In addition to my host job,
- 39:53Speaker 2: I did also walk-off interviews for the Winter Classic as
- 39:56Speaker 2: well on the radio side. When I step into the
- 39:59Speaker 2: play-by-play chair on the Kraken side, whenever it goes to
- 40:02Speaker 2: TV and John's out, we handle walk-off interviews live at
- 40:06Speaker 2: the Kraken win. And they've been extremely gracious with waiting
- 40:10Speaker 2: for commercial break. They can easily just say, hey, we
- 40:12Speaker 2: gotta go. But Players are there literally waiting for us
- 40:16Speaker 2: to finish commercial break, and we cut right to them.
- 40:18Speaker 2: They can't be any more gracious. If you're pro-Steve Sarkeesian
- 40:22Speaker 2: in this, you're thinking you went through this once at halftime,
- 40:25Speaker 2: and now you've got to go through it again. You're
- 40:27Speaker 2: thinking maybe enough of this. But ultimately, what are you
- 40:31Speaker 2: accomplishing by acting like a nine-year-old on camera, just saying,
- 40:36Speaker 2: Texas fight, Texas fight, hook him, walk away? If you're
- 40:40Speaker 2: pro-Holly Rowe, she's got one job to do. But does
- 40:44Speaker 2: giving the side eye look into the camera maybe justify
- 40:47Speaker 2: the moment, whereas she can gracefully get out of the
- 40:49Speaker 2: way with.
- 40:50Speaker 4: How do you gracefully get out of the way?
- 40:51Speaker 2: Well, I mean, someone's arguing, you know, hey, looks like
- 40:54Speaker 2: coach is fired up, wants to celebrate. Back to you, fellas.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Could that really have saved it?
- 41:01Speaker 4: I mean, that's what I do in those situations.
- 41:04Speaker 3: And I can say that I've been stuck in them
- 41:07Speaker 3: several times and I do save it at the end.
- 41:11Speaker 4: And that's just me.
- 41:14Speaker 3: I think maybe she was down there in a mosh
- 41:16Speaker 3: pit of a field rush also and might have been
- 41:19Speaker 3: sick of it.
- 41:19Speaker 4: And I'm not defending her.
- 41:21Speaker 2: I don't know Holly.
- 41:22Speaker 3: Me neither. So I'm just trying to assess a situation
- 41:28Speaker 3: that I've been in before.
- 41:29Speaker 4: And I always try to save it. So she could have, yes.
- 41:34Speaker 2: I know that context matters, but this is where I
- 41:36Speaker 2: just want to look at person A versus person B.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Could they have handled maybe this differently before? Yes, but
- 41:43Speaker 2: if this happens at halftime versus happening end of the game,
- 41:46Speaker 2: it's different. I get that Steve Sarkisian's got a job.
- 41:50Speaker 2: His window is tight. Postgame, I know that he wants
- 41:52Speaker 2: to celebrate, but as you said, and I fully agree,
- 41:56Speaker 2: Steve Sarkeesian, this was an opportunity for you to sell
- 42:00Speaker 2: your program on national TV, to sell this here to
- 42:03Speaker 2: the parents watching, students watching, recruits watching, sponsors also watching.
- 42:08Speaker 2: We live in NIL. You had a chance to do
- 42:12Speaker 2: all of this and take the high road without getting petty.
- 42:16Speaker 2: So I'm sorry. Steve Sarkeesian is in the wrong here.
- 42:19Speaker 4: I agree. I agree. He just, it's a missed opportunity.
- 42:23Speaker 4: That's the way I look at it.
- 42:25Speaker 3: And I mean, Like you said, we're in the NIL.
- 42:29Speaker 3: We're in that era.
- 42:31Speaker 4: And just celebrate your team. You know, he's had this
- 42:36Speaker 4: job for so long.
- 42:37Speaker 3: He's been in the NFL. He's been in college football
- 42:40Speaker 3: for so long. And he's been at the higher ranks.
- 42:44Speaker 4: He could do it.
- 42:46Speaker 3: And you could be as generic as you want. I'm sorry,
- 42:49Speaker 3: if you've been in it as long as he has.
- 42:52Speaker 4: You can be so generic.
- 42:54Speaker 3: Our team went out there and fought today. I believed
- 42:57Speaker 3: in them from the minute that we started.
- 42:59Speaker 4: I just knew that we could do it, and go
- 43:01Speaker 4: hook them.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Let's go. A response I saw on Twitter, and it
- 43:05Speaker 2: was great. I mean, Holly's got a job to do,
- 43:07Speaker 2: and he's got a job to do. Steve knows it.
- 43:10Speaker 2: But Steve could have taken literally two minutes and answered
- 43:12Speaker 2: one or two questions. You show your true character by
- 43:16Speaker 2: what you do with your power, and he's showing his
- 43:19Speaker 2: team that they can disrespect others because it just feels good.
- 43:23Speaker 2: You tell me 4945. 40 seconds.
- 43:25Speaker 4: 40 seconds.
- 43:26Speaker 2: That's all you got to do.
- 43:27Speaker 6: That's it.
- 43:27Speaker 5: That's it.
- 43:28Speaker 2: What happened to the high road here? The guy who
- 43:30Speaker 2: knows the high road every time, John Forslund, we got
- 43:34Speaker 2: some thoughts, some prognostications, where the Kraken are at right now,
- 43:38Speaker 2: and where do we feel about Matty Beneers' response to
- 43:41Speaker 2: Jason Robertson saying no. John Forslund with Kraken Training Camp
- 43:46Speaker 2: coming up this week. He's up next on 93.3 KJRFM. Now,
- 44:00Speaker 2: from the Star Rental.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Sports Desk, your 93.3 KKRFM Sports Headlines.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Brought to you by Frostbrood Chorus Light, as cold as
- 44:08Speaker 2: the Rockies. Sam Darnold looking like he'll miss week two
- 44:11Speaker 2: due to a glute injury. That, of course, sustained in
- 44:14Speaker 2: last week's. Debut for the season against the Patriots. Drew Locke, though,
- 44:18Speaker 2: coming in as QB2. Impressive. And the Seahawks looking like
- 44:22Speaker 2: they'll go back to him once they get going against
- 44:25Speaker 2: Arizona this next weekend at 125 with plenty of rest
- 44:29Speaker 2: in the rearview mirror. More injury updates. ESPN and NFL
- 44:34Speaker 2: Network reporting Myles Garrett of the Rams will have arthroscopic
- 44:38Speaker 2: knee surgery and will be placed on IRS. Oh boy,
- 44:42Speaker 2: oh boy, oh boy. Let's just say the beginning of
- 44:45Speaker 2: this season has not gone as planned for them. Huskies
- 44:49Speaker 2: over Utah State, of course, this weekend. 16-14 in a squeaker.
- 44:53Speaker 2: That really shouldn't have been a squeaker. DeMond Williams, 26
- 44:56Speaker 2: for 41, 249 yards, plus also 11 carries for 56 yards.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Gary Brosterhaus threw three picks for the Aggies. And without that,
- 45:08Speaker 2: where could that game have gone? Husky-Hompson. Again, we'll talk
- 45:11Speaker 2: about this more at 4 o'clock tomorrow here on these
- 45:14Speaker 2: airwaves with the one and only Dave Softy-Muller. Cougs losing
- 45:18Speaker 2: 34-7 to Kansas State on the road. Jess doesn't want
- 45:21Speaker 2: to talk about it anymore, though.
- 45:23Speaker 8: Thanks.
- 45:23Speaker 2: I'm good. Mariners, probably don't want to talk about this
- 45:27Speaker 2: as well. Another blown lead in the ninth inning. Another
- 45:29Speaker 2: loss here to the Athletics after Andres Munoz threw one. Middle, middle,
- 45:35Speaker 2: and what do you know? Lawrence Butler walk-off to seal
- 45:38Speaker 2: the game for the A's. Mariners now five games back
- 45:42Speaker 2: of the American League West and six back of the
- 45:44Speaker 2: wild card. In other baseball news, Julio Rodriguez announced by
- 45:49Speaker 2: Major League Baseball today he is a Mariners nominee. for
- 45:52Speaker 2: this year's Roberto Clemente Award, baseball's most prestigious individual honor
- 45:58Speaker 2: for major leaguers. In the NFL elsewhere, the only NFC
- 46:03Speaker 2: West team to play yesterday, Cardinals beat the Chargers. What
- 46:08Speaker 2: do you know?
- 46:09Speaker 3: 26-14.
- 46:09Speaker 2: On to the show we go. Okay, we're taking your
- 46:19Speaker 2: talkbacks here at the iHeartRadio app. Hit the red mic icon.
- 46:22Speaker 2: You're done. I'm looking forward to any impersonations that might
- 46:26Speaker 2: come in here because the Mariners, let's just say, threw
- 46:30Speaker 2: one away into the L-bin yesterday. Huskies nearly did one
- 46:35Speaker 2: as well into the L-bin, but escaped by the hair
- 46:38Speaker 2: of their chinning chin chin. I've heard impressions of me.
- 46:41Speaker 2: I've heard impressions of Softie. I've heard impressions of Ian,
- 46:44Speaker 2: Chuck Powell as well. One man that can be never
- 46:48Speaker 2: impersonated and duplicated is the one and only John Forslund
- 46:53Speaker 2: via the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. We turn our attention here,
- 46:56Speaker 2: of course, to Kraken Training Camp. Starting up this week, Johnny, hello.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Looking forward to seeing you. How are you?
- 47:04Speaker 6: Good to be back with you, and we're getting closer here.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Can't wait for this. I think you're in the car,
- 47:13Speaker 2: so I'll try to stay with you as much as
- 47:14Speaker 2: possible here. But what's your best impression that you can
- 47:17Speaker 2: pull off? You ever do impressions?
- 47:21Speaker 6: What's that?
- 47:22Speaker 2: You ever do impressions at all? Can you pull any
- 47:24Speaker 2: impressions off?
- 47:27Speaker 6: A lot of impressions, but that's going to cost you
- 47:30Speaker 6: a lot of money.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Come on, John.
- 47:33Speaker 4: The first one's free.
- 47:35Speaker 2: Oh, I could try to do Howard Cosell and introduce
- 47:38Speaker 2: you to the public.
- 47:39Speaker 5: No, no, no, no.
- 47:40Speaker 6: It's not happening right now. That's a contractual arrangement.
- 47:47Speaker 2: I can't wait to see you and get back into
- 47:49Speaker 2: the broadcast booth with you, my friend. Great to have
- 47:51Speaker 2: you as Kraken Training Camp gets up and running here soon.
- 47:54Speaker 2: You're going here, there, everywhere here via the East Coast.
- 47:58Speaker 2: It won't be too long until we get you back
- 47:59Speaker 2: into town here. John, I first want to begin with
- 48:03Speaker 2: what we read in The Athletic from this last weekend.
- 48:06Speaker 2: And Mark Lazarus had a great piece asking Matty Beneers
- 48:10Speaker 2: during the National Media Day sessions if Kraken players took
- 48:14Speaker 2: the rejection like Jason Robertson's personally. And Matty Beneers immediately responded, yeah, absolutely, quote-unquote.
- 48:23Speaker 2: And he said there's a tough rep about Seattle because
- 48:26Speaker 2: it's rainy, maybe it's a city, but guys love it
- 48:29Speaker 2: in Seattle. The guys that are there when the sun's out,
- 48:32Speaker 2: it's beautiful, there's nature, a lot of things to do.
- 48:35Speaker 2: So it doesn't feel good when you're on a team
- 48:37Speaker 2: and you try to get someone else and they don't
- 48:39Speaker 2: want to come. But at the same time, if you
- 48:42Speaker 2: don't want to be here, we don't want you anyway,
- 48:45Speaker 2: end quote. Johnny, your reaction to Matty's thoughts?
- 48:51Speaker 6: Well, my reaction would be I'm happy to hear that
- 48:55Speaker 6: a player would take it personally. If you don't, there's
- 48:58Speaker 6: something wrong. But I think hidden behind all of that
- 49:04Speaker 6: is the team has to take it upon themselves to
- 49:08Speaker 6: be better so that they create a winning culture so
- 49:12Speaker 6: that players will want to come. And like I said
- 49:15Speaker 6: before on this subject, there's no reason for anybody that's
- 49:21Speaker 6: a fan to take a player saying no personally. Because again,
- 49:27Speaker 6: it works with the other teams that are in our market.
- 49:30Speaker 6: There's nothing wrong at all with being in Seattle. It
- 49:33Speaker 6: is a beautiful place. It is an exceptionally strong sports city.
- 49:39Speaker 6: with passionate fans. But the players are responsible for what
- 49:43Speaker 6: happens in terms of wins and losses, and that's pretty obvious.
- 49:48Speaker 6: So if I'm Matty Beneers, I am taking that personally.
- 49:52Speaker 6: They're the only people that should because they are affected by,
- 49:56Speaker 6: in essence, being shunned by another athlete. So do something
- 50:02Speaker 6: about it now. Make your team better, start winning, or
- 50:06Speaker 6: at least show improvement and a direction which I think
- 50:09Speaker 6: for me, Mike, is going to be the goal of
- 50:12Speaker 6: this season, improving the direction and the identity so we
- 50:16Speaker 6: know exactly where the team is positioned to go moving forward.
- 50:21Speaker 6: I think there's just been too many questions that have
- 50:24Speaker 6: clouded up where the team's at right now, and that's
- 50:27Speaker 6: the best thing that can happen. But for an athlete
- 50:30Speaker 6: to take it personally, I would hope so. I think
- 50:33Speaker 6: that's a pretty obvious standpoint.
- 50:35Speaker 2: And this is on the heels here of an offseason
- 50:38Speaker 2: where they re-sign Bobby McMahon. They make a trade for
- 50:42Speaker 2: Mackie Samuskevich. You get a tough guy, kind of like
- 50:45Speaker 2: a deep-in-the-weeds type of move with Curtis Douglas as well.
- 50:48Speaker 2: And then more bodies going out the door here in
- 50:51Speaker 2: Jaden Schwartz and Jamie Oleksiak and Ellie Tolvanen. So to
- 50:56Speaker 2: the best of your ability and from what you read,
- 50:58Speaker 2: give us from what you saw develop here from this
- 51:00Speaker 2: past offseason, John, heading into this year.
- 51:03Speaker 6: Well, McMahon's the most important one, right? And I think
- 51:06Speaker 6: that's also pretty obvious. But the thing about Bobby McMahon
- 51:10Speaker 6: signing is that he is a player that committed to
- 51:13Speaker 6: stay in Seattle long-term. He is a player that played
- 51:16Speaker 6: under Lane Lambert and saw what the team was like
- 51:19Speaker 6: and said, you know what? I think I'd like to
- 51:22Speaker 6: re-sign there. So his representation went to work with the
- 51:25Speaker 6: team and they got it done. And that's exceptionally positive.
- 51:28Speaker 6: But what I like about a player like McMahon is
- 51:31Speaker 6: he's He's in launch mode right now. So for him
- 51:34Speaker 6: to take this contract, this is a big step. He's
- 51:37Speaker 6: 29 years old. He's in the prime of his career.
- 51:40Speaker 6: He can have an effect on where the team goes
- 51:44Speaker 6: by being at his best on a consistent basis. And
- 51:48Speaker 6: the only thing that's held Bobby back in the path
- 51:51Speaker 6: is his own inconsistencies and the fact that where he
- 51:54Speaker 6: was with his previous team in Toronto, it was very
- 51:58Speaker 6: hard for him to find a slot. There's no problem
- 52:02Speaker 6: with the Kraken for him to find a slot. He
- 52:05Speaker 6: is a go-to guy now for the first time in
- 52:08Speaker 6: his career. And because of that, I could see him
- 52:10Speaker 6: taking a big leap. Mackie Samaskevich is another player with potential.
- 52:17Speaker 6: He's a 23-year-old guy that they gave up a couple
- 52:19Speaker 6: of draft choices with the Florida Panthers to get. He
- 52:23Speaker 6: was blocked in terms of where he wanted to go
- 52:25Speaker 6: depth-wise with his previous team. The block is no longer there.
- 52:29Speaker 6: He's almost in the easy pass route on the highway.
- 52:33Speaker 6: So he has a great move to accelerate his career
- 52:37Speaker 6: and play in a top-six role with the Kraken. And
- 52:41Speaker 6: if he can add some speed and some scoring to
- 52:43Speaker 6: the lineup, then he's going to replace the outgoing guys
- 52:47Speaker 6: in a big way with much more upside. To me,
- 52:51Speaker 6: I think the one area of concern that I'm concerned
- 52:54Speaker 6: about really is the back end. I'm a little worried
- 52:59Speaker 6: that they didn't do much in the offseason to solidify
- 53:03Speaker 6: their depth on defense. As of right now, depending on
- 53:06Speaker 6: who plays with who, it looks like Cale Fleury is
- 53:09Speaker 6: the number six defenseman. That's going to be an interesting situation.
- 53:14Speaker 6: That's not a position that you look at any NHL team,
- 53:18Speaker 6: you're going to have to have consistency on your backend.
- 53:21Speaker 6: And for the first time in kale's career, he's looked
- 53:25Speaker 6: at as being in a group of six at the
- 53:28Speaker 6: NHL level, not a seven or an eighth defenseman. So
- 53:32Speaker 6: I'm going to be interested to see how that plays
- 53:34Speaker 6: out either. through this training camp period as the season
- 53:38Speaker 6: starts to see how that goes.
- 53:40Speaker 2: Our friend and the great John Forslund joining us right
- 53:42Speaker 2: now on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline again with Kraken Training Camp.
- 53:45Speaker 2: The main part of it opening up Thursday and this weekend,
- 53:48Speaker 2: first preseason game. Unbelievable. It just snuck right up on
- 53:51Speaker 2: us here. John, I go back here to the forwards,
- 53:53Speaker 2: and Jason Botterill said as many as eight forwards could
- 53:58Speaker 2: be here 23 years or younger. We talked about Matty
- 54:02Speaker 2: and him being fired up. He still fits in that window,
- 54:05Speaker 2: but he's getting a bit older. Mackie Samaskevich fits in
- 54:08Speaker 2: that window. You still have Shane Wright, given how turbulent
- 54:12Speaker 2: this offseason was with the commotion between him and trade
- 54:16Speaker 2: destinations and where he fits. To you, what are real
- 54:21Speaker 2: expectations here for these young kids?
- 54:26Speaker 6: Well, they're going to get opportunities. So it looks like
- 54:31Speaker 6: management is, when they say things like that, they've opened
- 54:34Speaker 6: up a path. So that's the first thing that has
- 54:37Speaker 6: to happen. The second thing that has to happen for
- 54:40Speaker 6: a young player is trust with the coaching staff. So
- 54:44Speaker 6: management will open up opportunity or at least put the
- 54:47Speaker 6: narrative out there that this is going to be a
- 54:50Speaker 6: younger team and this is going to be a team
- 54:53Speaker 6: that's finally going to see what the prospect pool looks
- 54:56Speaker 6: like as it matriculates to the NHL level. But the
- 55:00Speaker 6: key is the trust between the set players and the coach.
- 55:06Speaker 6: And that's going to happen during an abbreviated preseason of
- 55:09Speaker 6: only four games. It's going to happen in the first
- 55:12Speaker 6: month of the regular season to see how it plays out. But, Mike,
- 55:16Speaker 6: if you take Shane Wright's case and just that one alone,
- 55:20Speaker 6: that's what has to evolve here. He has to be
- 55:24Speaker 6: trusted by Lane Lambert and hopefully for him a top
- 55:28Speaker 6: six role. at least a top-nine role. And if that's
- 55:32Speaker 6: the case, you know, does he play his natural position?
- 55:36Speaker 6: Has he improved in terms of winning face-offs? Can he
- 55:39Speaker 6: handle a 200-foot game defensively? Those are fair questions right
- 55:43Speaker 6: now that don't have a positive answer, in my opinion.
- 55:46Speaker 6: Maybe they play him on the right side. Maybe they'll
- 55:49Speaker 6: alleviate some of that defensive pressure of being a center
- 55:52Speaker 6: and play him on the right wing. Maybe they do that.
- 55:55Speaker 6: But if that happens, the last thing that has to
- 55:57Speaker 6: happen for Shane Wright is he has to produce at
- 55:59Speaker 6: the NHL level. He needs to be a point producer.
- 56:03Speaker 6: So any seasoning or development is over for him, and
- 56:08Speaker 6: now he's had to handle some of the trade rumors,
- 56:11Speaker 6: and those are never easy, but it should kick him
- 56:13Speaker 6: in the seat of the pants and get him going
- 56:15Speaker 6: in the right direction. For the younger players, it's the
- 56:18Speaker 6: same thing, whether it's a Fisker-Volgaard or a Yanni-Newman Ryan Winterton,
- 56:24Speaker 6: Jacob Melanson, any of these guys that are going to
- 56:26Speaker 6: crack in that 23 and younger class, they have to
- 56:30Speaker 6: be trusted by the coach. And if they're not, the
- 56:33Speaker 6: Kraken still need to be competitive. They still need to
- 56:36Speaker 6: make a push. They owe it to the fan base
- 56:39Speaker 6: to be as competitive as long as they can to
- 56:42Speaker 6: try and sniff a playoff spot. So that's going to
- 56:45Speaker 6: be the catch-22. That's always the case. And it's always
- 56:49Speaker 6: great to lay it out on paper and say, hey,
- 56:51Speaker 6: it's going to be a great young team. Well, that's
- 56:54Speaker 6: a lot of nonsense when it comes to just words.
- 56:58Speaker 6: The action time is now upon us. So we're going
- 57:02Speaker 6: to finally get to a training camp, finally get to preseason,
- 57:05Speaker 6: and then get to the regular season. And with a
- 57:08Speaker 6: schedule that calls for a major eastern road trip right
- 57:13Speaker 6: off the bat, you know, that's going to be a
- 57:15Speaker 6: tall order.
- 57:16Speaker 2: And we're going to get to even, you know, the
- 57:18Speaker 2: guy who's maybe the best player or even I would
- 57:21Speaker 2: say definitely the best player in this pipeline. Not now,
- 57:24Speaker 2: but maybe a year or two years down the road.
- 57:26Speaker 2: And Chase Reed, because he's not here, because also he's
- 57:29Speaker 2: going to play college hockey over at Michigan State. And
- 57:34Speaker 2: many are saying a guy who could have been picked
- 57:36Speaker 2: top two, maybe even at one point was contending for
- 57:40Speaker 2: the number one pick in the draft, though that went,
- 57:42Speaker 2: of course, deservedly so to Gavin McKenna. But there are
- 57:45Speaker 2: some high quality parts of his game that mirror others
- 57:49Speaker 2: who have been explosive. in this league on the NHL,
- 57:53Speaker 2: and I'm careful saying this, but they talked about Cale
- 57:55Speaker 2: McCarr and some qualities, Zach Wierenski as well and some qualities.
- 57:59Speaker 2: So the bottom line is, should things work out, you
- 58:02Speaker 2: have an absolute game-breaker that you have maybe in your
- 58:05Speaker 2: own back pocket developing right now on the back end.
- 58:08Speaker 2: But to you, where should expectations lie for a player,
- 58:12Speaker 2: especially on defense, as he heads into his first season
- 58:16Speaker 2: of college hockey?
- 58:18Speaker 6: Well, I think it's fair to say as we approach
- 58:21Speaker 6: year number six of the franchise, with all due respect
- 58:26Speaker 6: to Matty Beneers, Shane Wright, and others who have been selected,
- 58:30Speaker 6: and now Berkeley Catton, who hopefully will have a breakthrough
- 58:33Speaker 6: season this year, Chase Reed is the most legitimate of
- 58:39Speaker 6: all of those guys of the first-round picks that have
- 58:43Speaker 6: been selected by the team. And that's not... just my
- 58:47Speaker 6: dumb opinion. That's the opinion that I've been able to
- 58:50Speaker 6: gather from a variety of people that worked for other
- 58:54Speaker 6: teams that I've talked to in the summer. This is
- 58:57Speaker 6: a player that I think the fans should really be
- 58:59Speaker 6: excited about. And I wouldn't say that unless I believed it,
- 59:04Speaker 6: you know, so it's going to be great to see
- 59:06Speaker 6: him go to Michigan state and then earn his position of,
- 59:12Speaker 6: you know, when is the right time, you know, to
- 59:19Speaker 6: give him that chance. But when you have a right-handed
- 59:21Speaker 6: shooting defenseman that can move, that can play with some size,
- 59:25Speaker 6: that appears to be extremely dynamic, You know, teams covet
- 59:30Speaker 6: those things. And in the existence of the team so far,
- 59:35Speaker 6: you and I have talked a lot about, you know,
- 59:37Speaker 6: how do the Kraken get high-end players? And what have
- 59:41Speaker 6: we always said? You have to draft and you have
- 59:44Speaker 6: to develop those star players. You can't really trade for them.
- 59:48Speaker 6: It's hard. I guess you can. Some teams have been
- 59:50Speaker 6: able to do it, but a lot of different circumstances
- 59:53Speaker 6: go into it. And you cannot certainly sign up. an
- 59:57Speaker 6: unrestricted free agent all the time. That's going to deliver that.
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: So this is a player that has that expectation. Now
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: he has to do it. He has to prove that
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: he can do it. And you never want to hurry
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: anybody into the national hockey league. So I hope they're
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: careful with them, but I think the runway is going
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: to be clear. So as long as he can do
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: what he needs to do this season, let's see where
- 1:00:21Speaker 6: the college year ends for him. And then go from there. Um,
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: Porter Bartone with Philadelphia was able to do an unbelievable
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: climb from Michigan State last year right into a playoff
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: run for the Philadelphia Flyers. But he's at rookie camp
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: this year like everybody else, and he's going to have
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: to earn his spot. But I think we should have
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: some real excitement about Chase Reed. I think he's a
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: legitimate blue-chip prospect that hopefully the Kraken can build around
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: for years to come.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: Hey, Johnny, finally, just kind of getting back to the
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: overall theme of player movement, especially in this day and age.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: You touched on free agency about a few seconds ago,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: but we've seen movement limited here because the pattern has
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: been guys are preferring to choose their own destinations. They're
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: making it public, and it usually boils down to about
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: the usual now three or four teams, including Vegas, Florida, Minnesota, Dallas, etc.,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Many have pointed to the issue of too many no-movement
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: clauses in the NHL as compared to what Major League
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: Baseball has, the NFL has, the NBA has. Do you
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: think that this league has way too many NMC's?
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: I don't know about that. I'm all for it. I
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: believe that when players earn an opportunity to be legitimate
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: NHL players, They should be respected in negotiation, and if
- 1:01:51Speaker 6: their representation asks for no trade or no movement clauses,
- 1:01:57Speaker 6: they should get it. Now, I don't believe they should
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: be handed out like, you know, candy at Halloween. I
- 1:02:03Speaker 6: don't think you should just knock on the door and
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: get a free piece of candy, and then all of
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: a sudden your league is cluttered with every single player
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: having some restriction. I think we're kind of approaching that point,
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: but that's how management has handled the previous CBAs, which
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: expire in a day and a new one starts, you know,
- 1:02:25Speaker 6: this week. You know, hopefully the reason why a lot
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: of these players now are trying to take their own
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: destiny into their hands is because the teams have gone
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: to players and said, hey, I know we've given you
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: a no movement and no trade clause in your contract.
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: Will you work with us? Because guess what? We want
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: to move you. So it's a two-way street. You can't
- 1:02:48Speaker 6: have managements around the league asking players to waive a
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: no trade and then expect the players not to kick
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: back and say, hey, I want to control my destiny
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: because I'm good enough and I want to go here
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: instead of just blindly following a contract that's going to
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: be to the detriment of my career. So I understand
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: it all. I think there's probably some common ground there.
- 1:03:12Speaker 6: But I like the way the players are handling this
- 1:03:15Speaker 6: now in hockey. I think the time has come. Revenues
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: are up. Salary cap is escalating. And it's about time
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: they kind of say, listen, there's some things here that
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: I'm not sure of. And I want a new beginning.
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: And the teams are going to have to adjust. That's
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: the era we're in. That's the generation we're in. That's
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: where it's going. That's where the other sports are. And
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: hockey is just getting in line.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Yeah. You're the best, man. Always on the go. Looking
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: forward to seeing you, though, very, very soon. And speaking
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: of Halloween candy, just for the sake of you joining
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: us here, I've got something for you. Maybe once you
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: get back in, what's your favorite?
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: Oh, I don't know. I'm going to leave that up
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: to you because you're great at making all kinds of decisions.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: I try because I say I just say whatever John does,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: I follow you.
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: John, you got to be a full bar guy.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: Full bars.
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: Oh, absolutely.
- 1:04:08Speaker 8: Absolutely.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: A hundred grand, Twix. We'll make it work here. We'll
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: make it work.
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: You guys can make that work very easily. Very easily.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Appreciate you, sir. Hey, safe travels back in here. We'll
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: see you soon.
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: Okay.
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: See you soon, guys.
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: Thank you. Awesome.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: Thank you. That is the great John Forslund joining us
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: in the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Talk, facts, text. Josh, you
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: got Factor Fiction up next, 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Now back to Countdown to Monday Night Football with Greg Bell.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: Brought to you by Frostbrood Coors Light. Cold as the Rockies.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: On Sports Radio 93.3, AJR FM.
- 1:05:02Speaker 6: The dogs.
- 1:05:04Speaker 9: Well, God love them, but they suck. Is it a
- 1:05:08Speaker 9: race to see who's worse, the Mariners or the dogs?
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: I hope not.
- 1:05:12Speaker 9: But I don't think Jed is the right guy, and
- 1:05:15Speaker 9: I never have thought that. But you've got to give
- 1:05:17Speaker 9: him five years. You can't keep cycling coaches through. So regardless,
- 1:05:21Speaker 9: thanks for everything.
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: You guys are great.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: That's what you get here when you beat Utah State
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: by about two points.
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: Luckily.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: You would have been feeling a lot, lot, lot, lot,
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: lot better if you win 16-14 in November over Oregon.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: Not in September over Utah State. But this is just
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: at least like a smidge that represents the anger that
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: I felt walking out of Husky Stadium.
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: I wasn't angry, but I don't care.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: You were two time zones away.
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: Oh, I was.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: I was.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it was, but I got to find out about
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: what had happened, and I only do that for scouting
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: purposes because we play Utah State in their territory later
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: this year.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: I would also argue that cheers from the stadium were
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: nearly as loud as the first touchdown when they found
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: out on the scoreboard Oklahoma State beat Oregon.
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: I mean, that. Now, that was a game.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Actually, I listened to that game on the Varsity app
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: on my way to... From Manhattan, Kansas to Kansas City, Missouri.
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: Got to hear the whole thing.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: Mike Bettin in for Greg Bell with Jessamine as well.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: We had some thoughts earlier on Sark versus Holly Rowe,
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: but what about you?
- 1:06:39Speaker 10: Holly Rowe needs to go away. You're telling me that
- 1:06:43Speaker 10: you're going to make Sark, who just won the game,
- 1:06:47Speaker 10: interview second? You're going to make him wait and wait
- 1:06:51Speaker 10: and wait for you to finish up with Ryan Day?
- 1:06:55Speaker 10: I hope Sark never talks to her again.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: That is complete BS.
- 1:07:00Speaker 10: On Holly Roe and ABC or ESPN, whatever. Go Sark
- 1:07:05Speaker 10: and get out of.
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: Here, Holly Roe.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: Good morning, my friends.
- 1:07:09Speaker 10: You are misleading your entire audience. They literally made him
- 1:07:13Speaker 10: wait for the second interview, guys.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: They made the winning.
- 1:07:18Speaker 10: Coach wait to go to his team.
- 1:07:22Speaker 11: How unprofessional is that? You guys, You need to have
- 1:07:26Speaker 11: context in this interview. Ryan Day went first, the losing coach.
- 1:07:30Speaker 11: Why don't you interview Steve first and then let him go?
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: Come on, guys.
- 1:07:35Speaker 4: You guys are missing the whole point here.
- 1:07:38Speaker 10: You two are misleading your entire audience. They literally....
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: Now, I can understand context matters, but this is how
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: the game works. It doesn't matter if it's football, whether
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: it's baseball, basketball, hockey.
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: Usually.
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: The losing team goes first. And usually these are also
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: prerecorded too, because they just want to be done with it.
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: If you win, you're in a better mood.
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: It's mostly live post game though.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: And it really depends upon the coach. And his level
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: of how long do you want to wait? Nine times
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: out of ten, these guys are totally fine with it.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: The losing coach is going to the bus right now, right?
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: There's no way that you are doing this other ways.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: That is the most likely scenario in which that happened
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: because I've been on the producing end of it and
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: I've been on the reporting end of it. is that
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: Ryan Day's like, now or never. And they're like, okay,
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: we're going to get him. We're not going to not
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: get him.
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: And the winning coach is going to be on the
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: field for a little bit longer.
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: I totally get that. Context matters. I totally get that. Well,
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: I'm giving context. There's also an audio technical issue. I
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: don't know if you believe what Texas said about ESPN
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: and their audio issues. I mean, are you just trying
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: to cover here for your head coach?
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: Likely.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Very likely. But again, the high road was just totally
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: thrown out the window here. It really turned petty and
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: it turned just very, very awkward.
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I've seen Holly do interviews, too, where
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: she's in the middle of a field rush and like
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: coaches will lean in and be like, hey, what?
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: Just so they can hear.
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: It's not like they have IFBs in their ear or
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: anything like that.
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: Did I just say in their beer? Yeah, that's what
- 1:09:23Speaker 4: I meant.
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: I'm sorry.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: I think I said that by accident.
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: But they don't have they can't hear what you can
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: hear when we're.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: On the sidelines.
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: We have things shoved in our ears. So we're only
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: hearing our own broadcast. The coaches can only hear what's
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: coming out of our mouths. And there's just something about
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: people clowning on her for that that bothers me, where
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: she was trying to do her job. And I don't
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: know this, but I can just assess from my own
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: experience that that's exactly what happened. Ryan Day wanted to
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: get the heck out of there. And then Sark, yes,
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: he did have to wait, okay? But he was going
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: to stay on the field and party. Sure, he might
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: have issues with the network. He might have issues with Holly.
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: I have no idea. But he had an opportunity.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: Very quick, 49451 from the 801. Sark's off the wagon,
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: was probably in a rush to get going. Quite a
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: few more here. Sark is wrong. Sark is wrong. 206
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: saying Holly was in the wrong. Why do you say
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: that she should have taken the high road or he
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: should have taken the high road but not her? It's
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: both a responsibility to take the high road in that situation.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: Just come up looking a lot better.
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: I mean, I think that the only thing that made
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: her look bad was the eye roll that was caught
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: on camera.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: 806 saying Texas, it doesn't need to sell themselves on
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: airtime after they've been disrespected on that network. It's Texas. Well, OK, great.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: But you're still battling here for NIL. You're still battling
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: here for recruits with Ohio State, with Michigan, with Florida.
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: You name it. USC, even if I can go down there.
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: Very quick, 206. Signing Bobby McMahon didn't make the team better.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: We already had him, but I want to know what
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: made this team better in the offseason because I don't
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: see anything. That from the 206, it's what you're going
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: to have to do right now just based on how
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: player empowerment is dictating where different players go. That's not
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: to make any excuses here, but again, you made a
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: push here to be aggressive. And you're all of a
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: sudden now putting this here into the hands of your
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: young players. Young players have to grow up very, very,
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: very quick. We're set to go. Glad you're with us.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: It's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: $ 10, 000 grand prize.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: It's Fact or Fiction.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: Proudly presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: day feels lucky. Fact or Fiction is on Sports Radio
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: 93.3 KJR FM.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: And we bring you Fact or Fiction presented by Lucky
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Eagle Casino and Hotel. For the entire football season, on
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: the 35s, 735, 1135, 235, and 335, we will make
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: a pick based on an upcoming college or pro game,
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: either against the spread or the total over-under. If you
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: like the pick, you have 12 minutes to text FACT
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: to 49451. If you hate our pick, text PICTION to 49451.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: You can't cheat. You must pick only one option per
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: text window as well. This goes on until December 11th,
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: and you feel lucky. One randomly selected entry from this
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: pool of correct guesses will be drawn to win $ 1, 000.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: That is Factor Fiction presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. Jess,
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: you got the spotlight.
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: Well, you can tell by the music because I always
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: go NFL.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: And I'm staying within our division.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: Because I like it.
- 1:13:06Speaker 11: Okay.
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: I will explain, or I'll give you my pick, and
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: I'll explain why I'm just refreshing to make sure.
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: The odds have not changed in the last 10 minutes.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: Can I tee up one hint? Because you mentioned electrifying.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: Is this substation-fueled?
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: It is.
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: Wait, what? Substation-fueled?
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: Is this substation-fueled, electrifying pick? You know what I mean?
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: No.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: Going with the team from Santa Clara, I think.
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: Oh, oh, substation.
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: Now I get it. I'm teeing this up here for you. Jesus, man, okay.
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: I don't want to take your tea away here. Tea up.
- 1:13:39Speaker 10: Okay.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: All right. I'll get out of the way here. Okay.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: So.
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: I am going with the Niners.
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: Minus ten and a half as they host the Miami Dolphins.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: And this is because, one, they have had, even though
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: they're traveling very far away, I think they're going to
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: smoke the Dolphins this weekend. And I am very excited
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: about it because my guy, Raheem Morris, has that defense cooking.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: Don't want to see it against Seattle, but I will
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: take it against the Dolphins because, as you all know,
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: I happen to be a supporter.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: Of the New York Jets.
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: So anyone who smokes those guys within my division, I
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: am all about it. Thank you, Seahawks, last week. I
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: appreciated that one, too. So, yeah, Niners minus 10.5 against Miami.
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: This weekend.
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: You love the pick. Text FACT49451. Do you hate the pick?
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: Text FICTION to 49451. Jess says Niners minus ten and
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: a half against the Dolphins. Again, for you YouTubers, I'm
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: pointing at it right now. 49451. Text it right now.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: You love the pick. Text FACT. You hate the pick.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: Text FICTION to 49451. Show's flying by.
- 1:14:53Speaker 8: I know.
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: Didn't we have more stuff to talk about?
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: Except for one more thing. the mayor of Maple Valley,
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: and his weekend ends next. All right, are you into
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: 80s lyrics? I got a little something for you. Dearly beloved,
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: we are gathered here today to get through this thing
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: called life. Electric word, life. Is this Prince? It means forever,
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: and that's a mighty long time.
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: Yeah, Prince.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: But I'm here to tell you that there's something else.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: The afterworld, known as the American League West. A world
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: of never-ending darkness. Mostly you can't see the sun day
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: or night. So when you call up that shrinking Soto,
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: you know the one, doctor, everything will be all right.
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: Instead of asking him how much your time has left,
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Ask him how much of your mind can get through
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: these last two weeks of baseball season. Molly Wapsa coming. Ian,
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: how are you? Let's go crazy.
- 1:16:16Speaker 7: Let's go crazy. I'm not a huge lyrics guy, but
- 1:16:19Speaker 7: when you said, ah, it's Prince.
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: There you go. I got that one.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: I can't wait for 1 o'clock today, man.
- 1:16:24Speaker 5: Oh, boy.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: Well, I just, you know, like, it's, they're just, you've
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: got to go 11-1 to finish 500th.
- 1:16:35Speaker 5: Not a chance.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: Not a chance. I mean, so 11-1 to finish 500.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: We'd love to see it, but not a chance.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: I mean, 11-1 to finish 500, and.
- 1:16:42Speaker 7: That gives you maybe a chance at the AL West
- 1:16:46Speaker 7: if you finish 500, right? You go 10-2, you're 80-82,
- 1:16:54Speaker 7: and then just go from there. The simple math would
- 1:16:57Speaker 7: tell you the Rangers– those are great. I'll bring this
- 1:16:59Speaker 7: up with the boys– Boston and Houston, right? Don't they
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: have a series coming up? Or is it Boston and Texas?
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: One of those two teams. Anyway, Boston's playing one of those.
- 1:17:08Speaker 7: And it was written today by someone in the athletic.
- 1:17:11Speaker 7: If you're Boston, you're probably better off. You might want
- 1:17:15Speaker 7: to lose those. Wild card three is a better option.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: Lost a few guys. Low management. Wild card three is
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: better than wild card two in terms of your matchups.
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: Does anybody want Tampa Bay in the postseason?
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: No.
- 1:17:27Speaker 7: No, no, no, no, no, no. But yeah, yesterday was
- 1:17:32Speaker 7: a kick in the.
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:17:34Speaker 7: You can figure out who had the worst weekend. Mariners,
- 1:17:38Speaker 7: right there. I'm just going to go through a list. Mariners, Cougs,
- 1:17:45Speaker 7: Husky offense. That was an angry stadium on Saturday. The
- 1:17:51Speaker 7: so-called improved Dallas Cowboys defense.
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: That wasn't good.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: Do they have a defense? Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers.
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: Oh, boy.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: Like, we'd go through the list. That was Harbaugh's first
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: loss in week one, by the way. Or, wait for it,
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: all you Husky fans, wait for it, Dan Lanning and
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: the Ducks.
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: Oh, boy!
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Okay, thanks. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
- 1:18:13Speaker 7: Yeah, that was, like, who had the worst weekend there, right? Like,
- 1:18:16Speaker 7: figure that one out.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: That's got to be up there with one of the
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: most grueling Oregon losses ever. Oklahoma State said it's the
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: biggest upset in history for the Cowboys. At least the
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: radio booth said so. Yeah, I mean, that whole.
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: It's bad.
- 1:18:31Speaker 7: That's a bad line. I mean, Messamaker's a good quarterback.
- 1:18:35Speaker 7: You saw him last year, Jess, when he was with Texas,
- 1:18:38Speaker 7: North Texas, and Eric Morrison. But yeah, Oregon got beat
- 1:18:43Speaker 7: on both sides of the line of scrimmage, and I
- 1:18:45Speaker 7: just can't fathom that. Washington's offense is not good. Cougars
- 1:18:51Speaker 7: offense is awful and their defense is worn out. And, uh, yeah,
- 1:18:55Speaker 7: the Chargers losing to, I mean, the Cardinals, what are
- 1:18:57Speaker 7: you doing? Aren't you guys trying to tank? Like, are
- 1:19:00Speaker 7: you going to bank on Jacoby? Now, maybe what they
- 1:19:03Speaker 7: did is they saw the game. Uh, they, they, Maybe
- 1:19:07Speaker 7: they went, well, I watched the Oregon game. We don't
- 1:19:08Speaker 7: want Dante Moore. I might as well wait for another
- 1:19:10Speaker 7: year to get our quarterback. I mean, I don't know.
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: If you want to throw in a big old L,
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: the production truck for the worldwide leader for the Sarkisian
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: Holly Rothing. Yeah. Oh, boy, that was interesting. So he
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: blew him off at halftime. Yes. Because of technical issues.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: And Laura Rutledge owned up to it also. In fact,
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: she said, we owe Sark an apology, yada, yada, yada.
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: I'm going to... Let's go behind the curtains. All right,
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: for a second. We've done so already, but we can
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: even go deeper. Tell me that. Because you also don't
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: know how this game works.
- 1:19:43Speaker 7: This is the worldwide leader in sports. You have the
- 1:19:46Speaker 7: most expensive trucks money can buy. You've got more tape
- 1:19:49Speaker 7: machines in there than you can use.
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: You tape the interview.
- 1:19:55Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 1:19:56Speaker 8: Mm-hmm.
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: Like, okay, I'll just say it. It was just weird.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: It was weird. If you watch a.
- 1:20:05Speaker 7: interview on the Kraken Hockey Network between periods with Piper
- 1:20:09Speaker 7: Shaw and an assistant coach or player.
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: Guess what?
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: Those are not live. Those are live to tape. Same
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: goes for our pregame with Lane Lambert. But I'm talking in-game.
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: In-game. Yeah.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: Because everyone's in a rush.
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:20:23Speaker 7: But Piper tapes that in the break after the period.
- 1:20:26Speaker 7: You're telling me that ESPN couldn't do that with Sark?
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. There's more to it. So then Laura Rutland says,
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: we owe Sark an apology.
- 1:20:35Speaker 6: Yada, yada, yada.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: And then we get the postgame where apparently Texas said
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: there were technical issues again.
- 1:20:41Speaker 7: Just the whole thing. You're bitter, you're mad, you're upset, whatever.
- 1:20:46Speaker 7: And then all of a sudden things are great, so
- 1:20:48Speaker 7: you're elated and you're happy, and away we go, just
- 1:20:50Speaker 7: beat No. 1. Listen, this was a crazy weekend. There's
- 1:20:56Speaker 7: so much that went on. And then, of course, Week
- 1:20:58Speaker 7: 1 of the NFL season... I mean, how about the
- 1:21:01Speaker 7: Chicago Bears? We're going to go ahead and just... I'm
- 1:21:05Speaker 7: shocked Ben Johnson didn't go for two and try to
- 1:21:07Speaker 7: get to 60. I remember when the Rams were the
- 1:21:09Speaker 7: greatest show on turf. I don't want to get ahead
- 1:21:13Speaker 7: of myself here, but this is like arena football level.
- 1:21:16Speaker 7: I don't want to go Rams level yet, but it's
- 1:21:18Speaker 7: like arena football level. Well, yeah, and then you've got
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: to ask yourself what's wrong with the Carolina Panthers defense, right?
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: Because... That was just, that was crazy. My boy David
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: Canales is in one right now.
- 1:21:30Speaker 7: Colston Loveland didn't even get involved in the offense. He
- 1:21:33Speaker 7: might be one of the most dynamic tight ends in
- 1:21:34Speaker 7: the NFL, and he wasn't even involved. And they just,
- 1:21:37Speaker 7: I think seven different guys caught a ball. And Caleb
- 1:21:40Speaker 7: did his thing running around. And DeAndre Swift did his thing.
- 1:21:43Speaker 7: And that was great. Fun weekend in football.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: Unreal. Unreal. The training camp is here, by the way,
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: for the Kraken.
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: What?
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: Yeah. It's coming. Like a tidal wave. Like a tidal wave.
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: You ready?
- 1:21:53Speaker 10: Nope.
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: You ready? Also unreal. Hey, you got someone new joining you,
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: by the way. Ashley, you're in there. Congratulations. Ashley is
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: going to be with us here in just a couple minutes.
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: If it wasn't going to be me. I'm so happy
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: that it's.
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: You bailed.
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: Yes, I did.
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: I was like, I cannot stand this hostile work environment.
- 1:22:12Speaker 7: For people that wanted to know, one day we're sitting
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: here and it's Anders and Jess and I, and we're
- 1:22:17Speaker 7: having a fun little time, the three of us. And
- 1:22:19Speaker 7: then lo and behold, the next Monday I show up
- 1:22:22Speaker 7: and Anders goes, it's just you and me. And I'm like,
- 1:22:25Speaker 7: where'd Jess go?
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: She left us. Just left us.
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: Yep, I did.
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: She wanted to be off at noon. She's like, I'm
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: out of here.
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: That's it. That's exactly what happened.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: And I said, well, okay. Well, I know where. And
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: then here we are two months later, and Anders leaves me.
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: Just leaves. So you're saying there's a common thread. I
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: think the common thread's me. I'm noticing a common thread.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: I'm not an Arab, Sam. I think the common thread's Ian.
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: Speaking of, we are getting up against this, so I
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: got to get out of here. But you got a
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: big show.
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: Coming up soon.
