Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus at the ten yard lives second to day
- 0:08Speaker 1: free wide receivers now in motion. As Bumpus left to
- 0:11Speaker 1: write Julius Jones a single setback, Matt pump fakes looking
- 0:14Speaker 1: at the goal line. He throws it into the end zone.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Touchdown Seahawks. It's Michael Bumpus with a diving catch in
- 0:21Speaker 1: the end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpus,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and the kid out of Washington State has found himself
- 0:28Speaker 1: a place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Russell lookout, he's gonna fire inside, preaching up, make you
- 0:36Speaker 1: a catch? Does he hang on? He does? Kids a touchdown.
- 0:42Speaker 1: It's a touchdown Seahawks. And it's Medcalf who reaches up
- 0:46Speaker 1: and makes the catch, crossing the field, making the catch
- 0:49Speaker 1: in the middle of the end zone, and Russell finds
- 0:51Speaker 1: him and throws it dark and we all waited to
- 0:54Speaker 1: see who it was. David made the catch because it
- 0:57Speaker 1: could have been anybody, but it was Medcalf going to
- 1:00Speaker 1: the ground, perfect passed by Russ and absolutely no doubt
- 1:05Speaker 1: about it. Russell Wilson comes back for years thirty fourth
- 1:10Speaker 1: career fourth quarter for overtime come back in Seattle. Now
- 1:14Speaker 1: Leachs twenty seven, twenty six. I'm Michael Bump, as he's
- 1:18Speaker 1: nasaid Choby. This is Hog Talk recap and now will
- 1:20Speaker 1: Steve Rabel with another great call. Dk metcast sealed the
- 1:24Speaker 1: game for the Hawks as they beat the Vikings twenty
- 1:27Speaker 1: seven and twenty six on Sunday Night Football. Once again,
- 1:30Speaker 1: they came down to the last play in the north
- 1:33Speaker 1: end zone. There's something about that end zone that makes
- 1:35Speaker 1: things just happen, that said choke man Bump. Honestly, I'm
- 1:39Speaker 1: just now kind of recovering from last night. Man, my heart.
- 1:43Speaker 1: My heart was beating until like three in the morning,
- 1:45Speaker 1: Dog when we were in that suite watching that game
- 1:47Speaker 1: last night, that final drive. I've I mean, it's every game,
- 1:51Speaker 1: every game this season at Central Link, It's been wild.
- 1:53Speaker 1: It feels like every time we get ready to the
- 1:55Speaker 1: postgame show, we either or just holding on for dear life,
- 1:59Speaker 1: a game that we thought they were gonna blow out
- 2:00Speaker 1: and they come back and this time and needed a
- 2:02Speaker 1: bunch of crazy stuff to happen on the last final drive.
- 2:04Speaker 1: But man, I know all the twelves out there recovering.
- 2:07Speaker 1: It's it's a Monday, It's victory Monday. Something in good shape.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I'm just saying, man, I don't know how much more
- 2:12Speaker 1: I can take straight up. Hey, well they got some
- 2:15Speaker 1: more opportunities coming up, but they do have them. Buy Now,
- 2:17Speaker 1: you mentioned all these great events that happened. Let's talk
- 2:21Speaker 1: about it and what had happened. See what had happened
- 2:23Speaker 1: at first? What had happened was unhard. What had happened
- 2:32Speaker 1: was I tell you what happened. The Hawks another game
- 2:35Speaker 1: where it comes down to the final play, the final drive.
- 2:38Speaker 1: All three home games the season have been decided in
- 2:40Speaker 1: the final minute. Talk about stressful this team is. They're
- 2:45Speaker 1: built to last at this point. I mean, there's not
- 2:47Speaker 1: much more that they can do. Are other situations they
- 2:50Speaker 1: can be And they've been down, they've been up. They've
- 2:53Speaker 1: won in the last play, they've won of the last drive,
- 2:55Speaker 1: they kicked field goals. I mean, you talk about football
- 2:58Speaker 1: being a situational experience in game, I mean they've been
- 3:02Speaker 1: through so many situations. They're ready to go. Oh, it's unbelievable. Man.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And that's the great thing about this team is everyone's
- 3:07Speaker 1: got that experience. Now, even the young guys, everyone has
- 3:10Speaker 1: been in any kind of situation with the game on
- 3:12Speaker 1: the line. They haven't had one game where they've come
- 3:14Speaker 1: out and just blown someone out and that was a rap.
- 3:16Speaker 1: So the experience that everyone gets in these situations to
- 3:19Speaker 1: come through, and it just proves that, like what you're doing,
- 3:21Speaker 1: practice comes down in games. They practice a two minute
- 3:24Speaker 1: drill every single week, they practiced the four minute drill.
- 3:26Speaker 1: They have all these situations, so when these things come
- 3:29Speaker 1: up late in games, they're ready for him. This was
- 3:31Speaker 1: only the sixth time in Russell Wilson's career that they
- 3:33Speaker 1: did not score a point in the first half, and
- 3:35Speaker 1: especially coming off in his previous week's MVP type performances,
- 3:38Speaker 1: we were kind of shook. We're like, all right, what's
- 3:40Speaker 1: going on here? Is it the elements? What are the
- 3:43Speaker 1: Bikings doing defensively? That's really hendering Russell from going off?
- 3:46Speaker 1: And in my opinion, in this second half, yes, they
- 3:50Speaker 1: came out, they were stopped, but then they go out
- 3:52Speaker 1: and they score touchdown Uncle Will. But after that, the
- 3:54Speaker 1: defense got this team going, and that's what I think
- 3:57Speaker 1: really encourages me the most. You look at the stats Okay,
- 4:00Speaker 1: you can spin it any way you want to. But
- 4:02Speaker 1: for the first time this year, I felt like the
- 4:04Speaker 1: defense said, I we got you offense. Well here's a
- 4:06Speaker 1: couple of turnovers, now let's go. Oh yeah, No, it
- 4:09Speaker 1: was a crazy occurrence. I mean to see y'all score
- 4:11Speaker 1: twenty one points in the third quarter in a minute
- 4:13Speaker 1: and fifty three seconds. I mean, the offense couldn't get
- 4:15Speaker 1: anything done in the first half, and it's mainly because
- 4:17Speaker 1: they're behind the sticks. You can't go third and your
- 4:20Speaker 1: second in twenty two, third and twenty four, all that stuff.
- 4:23Speaker 1: It's just impossible to win the game like that, and
- 4:24Speaker 1: they just couldn't really get going. But like you said,
- 4:26Speaker 1: the defense, while yes, they did still give up a
- 4:29Speaker 1: lot of yards, they struggled stopping the run. We know that.
- 4:32Speaker 1: But when they needed a spark to kind of get
- 4:34Speaker 1: this thing going because they came out the offense, you
- 4:36Speaker 1: forget too. The offense came out and had a rough
- 4:39Speaker 1: first drive or right off halftime. So the defense stepped up,
- 4:43Speaker 1: came up with two clutch stops, a couple of turnovers,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and got us going. Defense got them going. Talk about
- 4:47Speaker 1: the offense and their struggles over seven on third downs.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I talked to pet earlier to the goal coach. If
- 4:52Speaker 1: I would have told you, Okay, you're gonna be over
- 4:53Speaker 1: seven on third downs, do you think you win this
- 4:55Speaker 1: ball game? He says no. Where they kind of balanced
- 4:59Speaker 1: it out for oh Man two for two and four downs,
- 5:02Speaker 1: two of the biggest plays of the game. That shows, again, resilient.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I feel like we're gonna use that word all year
- 5:08Speaker 1: with this group. Resilient over seven third downs. They kept
- 5:11Speaker 1: getting behind the six. It was like third and sixteen,
- 5:13Speaker 1: third and twenty four. There are no football players for
- 5:15Speaker 1: those situations. End of the day, they found a way
- 5:17Speaker 1: to win even with the struggles on third Yeah. No,
- 5:20Speaker 1: that's absolutelys a wild stat. I think I got a
- 5:22Speaker 1: stat here somewhere that hasn't happened very often. We talked
- 5:25Speaker 1: about in the post game that has not happened where
- 5:27Speaker 1: a team went over seven on third downs or just
- 5:30Speaker 1: didn't convert on third downs all night. The last team
- 5:32Speaker 1: to do it and when was the Seahawks. That happened
- 5:36Speaker 1: there against Arizona in twenty eighteen. But they're just a
- 5:38Speaker 1: twenty first team in NFL history to win without converting
- 5:42Speaker 1: a third down. Yep, and let's talk about Dalvin Cook.
- 5:45Speaker 1: I mean, he went out early. It looked like a
- 5:47Speaker 1: growing injury. We're not sure yet. I'm sure we'll get
- 5:49Speaker 1: an injury report there. But Madison came in and kept
- 5:51Speaker 1: the party going. This was gonna be the true test.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I feel like we were all on the same page
- 5:55Speaker 1: where we agreed as to what the Hawks needed to
- 5:58Speaker 1: do to win, and that was control the ground game.
- 6:01Speaker 1: They were the third best rushing defense in the league.
- 6:04Speaker 1: They didn't do that, Maddison. I think that the Vikings
- 6:08Speaker 1: rushed for two hundred over two hundre yards total. Madison
- 6:11Speaker 1: came in when Dalvin could got hurt and just kept
- 6:13Speaker 1: the party going. Yet they still found a way to
- 6:15Speaker 1: win this ball game. Yeah. No, it's crazy because, like
- 6:18Speaker 1: you said, the Seahawks were the third rushing defense coming
- 6:21Speaker 1: into the game, and I wasn't really sure how to
- 6:24Speaker 1: feel about that coming in because they got up on
- 6:27Speaker 1: Atlanta early, so we didn't really get to see everything
- 6:29Speaker 1: from Todd Gurley. The Patriots, they did a good job there.
- 6:32Speaker 1: They helped Cam Newton in shack and they didn't really
- 6:34Speaker 1: get going there. And then the Cowboys they got down
- 6:36Speaker 1: also at Ezekiel Elliott just they didn't. They went away
- 6:39Speaker 1: from the run game, so it's hard to kind of
- 6:40Speaker 1: tell if those numbers really added up. We got to
- 6:43Speaker 1: see on Sunday, unfortunate Beers thing Minnesota. That's what they do.
- 6:46Speaker 1: That's literally what they do. They have all these heavy
- 6:48Speaker 1: personnel packages. They want to run the football and they're
- 6:51Speaker 1: just good at it. Man, I'm not gonna lie to
- 6:53Speaker 1: I was. I was getting nervous a little bit there
- 6:54Speaker 1: because their screen games are on point, and their run
- 6:57Speaker 1: games and their cutbacks, and it was tough. And in
- 6:59Speaker 1: all Dalvin Cook we all the time talking about him
- 7:02Speaker 1: all week, Right, he goes out. I'm thinking, okay, we
- 7:05Speaker 1: got a little juice from that. But Madison kept going
- 7:08Speaker 1: man like. They they are good at what they do.
- 7:10Speaker 1: They didn't miss a beat with him in the game. Obviously,
- 7:13Speaker 1: two hundreds too much on the ground goes against everything
- 7:16Speaker 1: Pete Carroll wants to do on defense. But they made
- 7:19Speaker 1: the right plays when they had to. Bump yep made
- 7:22Speaker 1: the right plays when they had had to. They cause
- 7:24Speaker 1: three turnovers. That's the big thing. Say what you want
- 7:26Speaker 1: about the defensive sack numbers, the yards or whatnot, when
- 7:29Speaker 1: it comes to um causey turnovers. I believe they're second
- 7:32Speaker 1: in the league. They might be first now after this weekend.
- 7:34Speaker 1: So man, good for them. Make the plays when you
- 7:36Speaker 1: have to and big up the LJ. Coller man he
- 7:38Speaker 1: got a sack. The first round drafting from a couple
- 7:40Speaker 1: of years ago is starting to come around now. To
- 7:44Speaker 1: end the game, they went on a thirteen play ninety
- 7:46Speaker 1: five yards drive in one minute in forty two seconds
- 7:49Speaker 1: to win the ball game. Two fourth down conversions that
- 7:52Speaker 1: I believe the first two players were also put two
- 7:54Speaker 1: footballs in the dirt. Wasn't looking good. But again, they
- 7:58Speaker 1: get into that fourth down situation. They rely on their training,
- 8:01Speaker 1: rely on their practice, the stuff they do during the week,
- 8:03Speaker 1: and they bring that to the football field in moments
- 8:06Speaker 1: where it matters the most. Russell Wilson's and Pete Carroll's
- 8:10Speaker 1: mental toughness is on another level, Oh, no question about it, honestly.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So we were sitting there in the suite, we were
- 8:16Speaker 1: all standing up, hands on our knees, just freaking out
- 8:19Speaker 1: during that whole last drive. The thing is, though, is like,
- 8:21Speaker 1: no matter what, I've never seen a human being on
- 8:24Speaker 1: this planet have more poise in those situations than Russell Wilson.
- 8:28Speaker 1: It's unbelievable. And because he's that way, it spreads throughout
- 8:31Speaker 1: the whole team. Like you go into the huddle. It
- 8:33Speaker 1: doesn't matter what the play is. I don't care if
- 8:35Speaker 1: it's fourth in a hundred and the game's on the line.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Russell Wilson is calm. He's poison. It's translates the rest
- 8:41Speaker 1: of teams. So everyone on the team has a belief
- 8:43Speaker 1: that they're going to figure it out. I mean the
- 8:45Speaker 1: rest of us hut. Normal humans don't have that kind
- 8:48Speaker 1: of poison. It's hard as see us fans watching. That's
- 8:50Speaker 1: why I were almost having all these heart attacks. But
- 8:52Speaker 1: the poise he has in those moments and after that's
- 8:54Speaker 1: the other thing too. If I just threw two balls
- 8:57Speaker 1: kind of into the dirt and out of character for
- 9:00Speaker 1: Russell Wilson because it was a wet football to then
- 9:02Speaker 1: have the presence of mind and still be in it
- 9:05Speaker 1: and complete the rest of the drive that fourth and
- 9:07Speaker 1: ten DK metcalf will get into in the coach's corner.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But that drive was something else. That drive was special.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But I mean we expect it now, right. We're spoiled, man,
- 9:15Speaker 1: We're spoiled up here in the Northwest. Now, the Seahawks
- 9:18Speaker 1: are the only team in the Super Bowl Air to
- 9:20Speaker 1: start five and old. Despite being out gained by an
- 9:22Speaker 1: average fifty total yards per game, They're winning in a
- 9:26Speaker 1: different kind of way. It's interesting to watch, and it's
- 9:28Speaker 1: interesting to hear people outside of the state talk about
- 9:32Speaker 1: the Hawks because they don't know rather to believe it
- 9:34Speaker 1: or not. But after Russell's performance a Monday night football,
- 9:38Speaker 1: throw the stats away, like I've put I've putting too
- 9:41Speaker 1: much into stats sometimes, and this team is showing me
- 9:44Speaker 1: that sometimes numbers do lie what they show absolutely And
- 9:49Speaker 1: that's the thing too. Like like we said, it doesn't
- 9:51Speaker 1: really matter about where we ranked defensively and all that stuff.
- 9:54Speaker 1: If we continue to win football games like I don't care,
- 9:57Speaker 1: you can have Minnesota is still going to be a
- 9:59Speaker 1: top five rushing team. Like that's great if it doesn't
- 10:01Speaker 1: really matter if you're running four and you use the game.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So as long as the stat that matters, bump is
- 10:06Speaker 1: wins and losses, and the Seahawks have five of them,
- 10:09Speaker 1: they got zero losses. Well, iven no, all right, let's
- 10:11Speaker 1: talk about who has helped them on their journey to
- 10:13Speaker 1: get to five and know with playmakers, playmakers. All right, First, dude,
- 10:28Speaker 1: we got to talk about Russell Wilson twenty for thirty two,
- 10:30Speaker 1: two hundred and seventeen yards, three touchdowns, one interception. That
- 10:33Speaker 1: was it was odd, man. I just that was probably
- 10:36Speaker 1: the worst decision I've seen Russell making a very long time.
- 10:38Speaker 1: But he bounced back. There had to have been some
- 10:40Speaker 1: kind of miscommunication because it's a weird thing. He's rolling
- 10:42Speaker 1: out to his right, Chris Carson goes out of bounds,
- 10:45Speaker 1: so kind of gets pushed out of bounds and the
- 10:46Speaker 1: defender goes out of bounds and then he just kind
- 10:49Speaker 1: of lofted it up there. So I don't know if
- 10:50Speaker 1: there's a miscommunication, like Chris is gonna come back, if
- 10:52Speaker 1: he meant to throw that away and he just kind
- 10:54Speaker 1: of left it short. It was It was hard to tell,
- 10:56Speaker 1: but for a game or his pouring rain all afternoon,
- 11:00Speaker 1: He's still played an awesome game. That was his only
- 11:02Speaker 1: mistake he's made all I mean, he made a couple
- 11:05Speaker 1: I shouldn't say that. He had a couple of throws
- 11:07Speaker 1: that weren't great, but that was the only big mistake
- 11:08Speaker 1: he made all game. Yeah, that was like a mental mistake.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Those are ones were not used to seeing the physical errors. Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 1: that happens. No one's perfect, but yeah, that was odd.
- 11:16Speaker 1: All right, Russell Wilson's ATD passes on throws twenty plus
- 11:19Speaker 1: jards down the field through week five. That doubles any
- 11:22Speaker 1: other quarterback. He's taking his shots. He's got DK Metcalf
- 11:26Speaker 1: who's eating up a quarter of the field every time
- 11:28Speaker 1: he catches the football. What is it about? I mean,
- 11:32Speaker 1: I felt like we keep asking the same question, what
- 11:34Speaker 1: is about Russell Wilson that allows us to do this?
- 11:36Speaker 1: How was he able to do that? You go back
- 11:38Speaker 1: to the summer and see the grind that he puts in,
- 11:41Speaker 1: the work that he puts in. You're at b MAC,
- 11:43Speaker 1: you see it every day. Him and Dk have prepared
- 11:46Speaker 1: for this moment and they're starting to shine. Well, that's
- 11:48Speaker 1: the crazy thing. And that's the thing about football, especially
- 11:50Speaker 1: more than any other sport. You have the fewest opportunities
- 11:53Speaker 1: to actually play games. You have a sixteen game regular season.
- 11:57Speaker 1: We used to have four game preseason and then the playoffs.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Like more than any other sport, football is a grind
- 12:03Speaker 1: Monday through Friday in the season. So all these things
- 12:05Speaker 1: that are happening on the field on Sunday. It didn't
- 12:07Speaker 1: happen on Sunday. They won those in the summer. They
- 12:10Speaker 1: won those in the weight room. They want those throwing
- 12:12Speaker 1: balls at Russell's place down in California. Look at you
- 12:14Speaker 1: sounding like a coach. Gotta do it, man. It starts.
- 12:17Speaker 1: It starts there, baby, It starts in the film room.
- 12:19Speaker 1: He wasn't with me grinding in the film room. He
- 12:21Speaker 1: wasn't with me when I was shooting in the gym.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Russell Wilson ball Dott. He has thirty game winning drive
- 12:28Speaker 1: since his debut in twenty twelve. Thirty of them things
- 12:32Speaker 1: we talk about experience, He's been there before. He's like,
- 12:35Speaker 1: all right, man, I've done this twenty nine other time.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Let's go him and make this thirty. Russell Wilson continues
- 12:39Speaker 1: to impress Who else impressed you last night? To Kalin Metcalf. Yeah,
- 12:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna get him by his government name, Yes, sir,
- 12:47Speaker 1: he was. I mean, I'm running out of words to
- 12:49Speaker 1: describe this man. He can do it all, and the
- 12:52Speaker 1: thing about it, he's just super resilient too. There's a
- 12:54Speaker 1: couple of balls he probably thought he should have caught.
- 12:56Speaker 1: But this man is finding different ways to do stuff,
- 12:59Speaker 1: whether it whether it's his actual route running, whether it's
- 13:02Speaker 1: doing the little things, whether it's going up and catching
- 13:04Speaker 1: the football. I mean, DK Metcalf is just another dude,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and we talked about some the postgame show last night.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I mean, first of all, beyond he's the most physically gifted,
- 13:12Speaker 1: sculpted person I've ever seen in my entire life. Number one,
- 13:14Speaker 1: Max and then number two. He's just going up in Boston.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Dude's up. Man. He's got four hundred and like ninety
- 13:20Speaker 1: six yards through five games. He's on pace to go
- 13:23Speaker 1: over fifteen hundred yards and have sixteen touchdowns on the season.
- 13:26Speaker 1: He is getting to the point. I'll come out and
- 13:27Speaker 1: say it. He is going he's a superstar status at
- 13:29Speaker 1: this point. I'm not gonna wait. I'm not gonna wait
- 13:32Speaker 1: and see. He's way out there. He's going to super
- 13:34Speaker 1: in front of the star. Now, Yes, he's there. When
- 13:37Speaker 1: you talk about the best receivers in the game, you're
- 13:38Speaker 1: gonna say, you're gonna say Julio Jones, You're talking about Hopkins,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and then you're talking about DK Metcalf because he's playing
- 13:46Speaker 1: at that level. Okay, all right, bold take bold take Monday.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I am at at that. He's the only player in
- 13:53Speaker 1: the NFL with ninety plus yards in all five weeks
- 13:56Speaker 1: this season. So he's doing things that Hopkins hasn't done
- 13:59Speaker 1: at least this year, that Julio hasn't done this year.
- 14:02Speaker 1: So you got you got an argument. I am mad
- 14:04Speaker 1: at that. Chris Carson seventy nine total yards and one
- 14:08Speaker 1: nasty touchdown. Oh we got it here from Steve on
- 14:10Speaker 1: this one to hand off the Carson starts right back
- 14:14Speaker 1: up the middle, pounds through one Turku. They's got a
- 14:17Speaker 1: score touchdown, Seahawks. Chris Carson just runs over half of
- 14:24Speaker 1: the Minnesota defense. The Seahawks have scored three touchdowns in
- 14:29Speaker 1: the blink of an eye to start this second half,
- 14:32Speaker 1: and Carson says, give me the ball. I'm gonna run
- 14:35Speaker 1: them all over. That was such a nice run by
- 14:37Speaker 1: Chris because first of all, he hits to play on
- 14:39Speaker 1: the front side, a nice little cutback, and then just decides, hey, safety,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I don't care if you're at all pro. You were
- 14:45Speaker 1: not gonna tackle me one on one in the open field.
- 14:47Speaker 1: That's a safety's worst nightmare. Chris Carson is just balling
- 14:50Speaker 1: out and just flexed on him, man flexed on him.
- 14:52Speaker 1: In He touched the ball Belie fourteen times last night.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Didn't have a huge I guess load to carry. But
- 15:01Speaker 1: when he touches the football, you feel like it can
- 15:04Speaker 1: go to the house. You feel like it's gonna be
- 15:06Speaker 1: a big chunk. And if you try to tackle thirty
- 15:08Speaker 1: two high, good luck to you. I know he's five
- 15:10Speaker 1: to eleven, he's what two hundred and ten fifteen pounds,
- 15:14Speaker 1: but that dude is solid and that was the safety's mistake.
- 15:17Speaker 1: He went up high and went for the strip. This
- 15:19Speaker 1: ain't Chris Carson from last year. He's not putting that
- 15:21Speaker 1: football on the ground. Ball security, job security. He's one
- 15:24Speaker 1: of these strongest looking runners I've seen in the league
- 15:27Speaker 1: in a while. Oh, no question about it. I mean
- 15:30Speaker 1: in Seattle, obviously we're super spoiled with watching number twenty
- 15:33Speaker 1: four Marshawn Lynch for all those years. And while their
- 15:35Speaker 1: styles aren't exactly the same, but their physicality is. I mean,
- 15:39Speaker 1: Chris Carson, when you tackle him, you're gonna hurt, Like
- 15:42Speaker 1: every time you tackle Chris Carson. Them boys on the
- 15:45Speaker 1: Minnesota defense are feeling Chris Carson today. I promise you
- 15:48Speaker 1: that feeling, Chris Carson, and they're feeling kJ kJ made
- 15:53Speaker 1: some plays. What you see out of kJ kJ? First
- 15:55Speaker 1: of all, I know kJ had an amazing game last week.
- 15:59Speaker 1: He was the best defense on the field. Without question.
- 16:01Speaker 1: He's blown dudes up. The only knock on kJ last
- 16:04Speaker 1: week is that he didn't get the picks. He dropped
- 16:06Speaker 1: two interceptions. And this play from kJ Wright might be
- 16:09Speaker 1: the best player I've ever seen from him in his career.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Cousins is gonna roll right, He's gonna look the ball
- 16:14Speaker 1: is accepted. kJ Rice reaches up about thirteen feet in
- 16:19Speaker 1: the air and pulls it down. What a play by
- 16:23Speaker 1: number fifty. He had three of them a shot out
- 16:26Speaker 1: last week and didn't bring one in that time. A
- 16:29Speaker 1: fabulous one handed interception by the Spider kJ Wright. What
- 16:35Speaker 1: a big play in the Seahawks again in scoring territory
- 16:40Speaker 1: against the Vikings. Spider Man's back, Baby, he's back Spiderman's back,
- 16:44Speaker 1: rape said thirteen feet. I means Kj's looking out there
- 16:48Speaker 1: the backboard on that one one hand. Pig spoke to Pete.
- 16:53Speaker 1: He said they did ball drills all throughout the week,
- 16:55Speaker 1: you know, and he owned it. And that's what the
- 16:58Speaker 1: Gray woes do. He goes, you know, I should have
- 16:59Speaker 1: had two pigs, and he says he wants five this year.
- 17:02Speaker 1: So and he also had a fumble recovery. I mean,
- 17:04Speaker 1: two weeks in a row, he's just been really active.
- 17:08Speaker 1: It's nice to see somebody as good and as Kay.
- 17:10Speaker 1: There's one of the nicest dudes I've ever met in
- 17:12Speaker 1: my life, Like just a solid human being. So when
- 17:15Speaker 1: solid people are making plays, it makes it even that
- 17:17Speaker 1: much greater. Oh, no question about it. And what I
- 17:19Speaker 1: love too is he just the whole play was great,
- 17:21Speaker 1: even before the interception. Like I was about while we
- 17:23Speaker 1: were watching, I was about to say something to you
- 17:25Speaker 1: like that was a nice job taking away what Kirk
- 17:27Speaker 1: Cousins wants to do. But then kurs I can I
- 17:29Speaker 1: can phot it over the chop and then Kay just
- 17:31Speaker 1: went up there and snagged in one hand one hand swag.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Two weeks in a row, we've seen the linebackers really
- 17:35Speaker 1: get involved. I feel like Bobby was in great position
- 17:38Speaker 1: last week against Miami. kJ was as well. They're starting
- 17:41Speaker 1: to kind of figure out how to pass routes off
- 17:45Speaker 1: and where they're supposed to be. So um, that's a
- 17:47Speaker 1: nod to the coaching staff as well. Dementre Moore four tackles,
- 17:51Speaker 1: one sacks, one fourth fumble, and a big hit on kick.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Call you now first, you said it during the game.
- 17:57Speaker 1: You don't see number nineties running off very often. Bro.
- 18:02Speaker 1: When he came I mean that was one of those
- 18:04Speaker 1: hits where you jump out of your seat like that
- 18:06Speaker 1: was one of those things. Because we're playing that Central
- 18:08Speaker 1: Link with no fans. You could hear that all the
- 18:10Speaker 1: way up in our suite that that boy came down
- 18:13Speaker 1: and just smacked him. And just like a note to
- 18:16Speaker 1: to kick returners across the league, if you see ninety
- 18:19Speaker 1: coming down and go down, step out of bounds, do
- 18:22Speaker 1: what you gotta do, because he hit him square and
- 18:24Speaker 1: let that dude up Nicestee Demontre do his thing. Also,
- 18:27Speaker 1: Cody Barton and Bobby Wagoner combined for twenty eight tackles.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Cody Barton got a lot of snaps, had a lot
- 18:34Speaker 1: of tackles. I felt like he grew a lot this game.
- 18:38Speaker 1: There were times where he probably got the bad end
- 18:40Speaker 1: of a run. There are times where um he made
- 18:43Speaker 1: to play. There's mistakes that were made. But going further
- 18:45Speaker 1: into this season, you're gonna need guys like Cody Barton
- 18:48Speaker 1: to have these experiences so when it gets late in
- 18:51Speaker 1: the game, you're not worried about a guy getting these
- 18:54Speaker 1: opportunities to play and he hasn't been in that situation. So, um,
- 18:57Speaker 1: I liked what I saw to Cody Barton. No, it
- 18:59Speaker 1: was great too, because the one thing about about Cody
- 19:01Speaker 1: is he got to play a ton of reps because
- 19:04Speaker 1: of Minnesota's personnel groupings. Right, we weren't a nickel very often.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I think Hugo Maddy only had twenty eight reps on defense,
- 19:10Speaker 1: so we were in base so much more. And like
- 19:13Speaker 1: you said, Cody Barton grew as the game went on.
- 19:15Speaker 1: And what I also loved about him is on that
- 19:17Speaker 1: fourth down stop when the Seahawks needed it. It was
- 19:20Speaker 1: fourth and one and fourth and inches towards the end
- 19:23Speaker 1: of the game. Benson Mayoa Bobby Wagner is right there.
- 19:26Speaker 1: But but Cody is the one who set the edge
- 19:29Speaker 1: right Lee blocker came out to block him and he
- 19:31Speaker 1: stood him up right there. It kind of caused a log, damn.
- 19:33Speaker 1: And he's a big reason for why that play happened.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Cody bard making his presence felt Bobby just being Bobby
- 19:39Speaker 1: solid as that's what he does. All right, let's go
- 19:42Speaker 1: to the wide receiver round up. Of course, DK Metc
- 19:47Speaker 1: six catches ninety three yards, two touchdowns. Tyler Lockett four
- 19:51Speaker 1: catches forty four yards off of five targets. Now, Tyler
- 19:57Speaker 1: Lockett didn't have the game that we're used to seeing
- 20:00Speaker 1: out of him, but he had a clutch play at
- 20:05Speaker 1: the end of the game on the sideline, running across
- 20:08Speaker 1: the field, gets out of bounds. Those are the things
- 20:10Speaker 1: that Tyler Lockey can always be counted on a due. Now,
- 20:13Speaker 1: the big plays they're gonna come, they're gonna go, But
- 20:15Speaker 1: the clutch moments, the being where you're supposed to be,
- 20:18Speaker 1: they're keeping this drive alive. That's what he does. No,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I love seeing it from both of them, and like
- 20:23Speaker 1: whether it's Tyler and DC and all those guys. Another
- 20:25Speaker 1: thing too, which you watch is, I think, better than
- 20:28Speaker 1: any team in the league, the way the Seahawks run
- 20:29Speaker 1: their two minute drill. The receivers no boom, they catch
- 20:32Speaker 1: the ball and it said just sprint to the official
- 20:35Speaker 1: to get that ball set and keep things going. So
- 20:37Speaker 1: you love to see it. Chris Carson has six receptions
- 20:40Speaker 1: for twenty seven yards. Greg Olson had one for twenty
- 20:42Speaker 1: uncle Will, let's go at tars in a touchdown. Always
- 20:46Speaker 1: nice to see uncle Will. Nice little will route over
- 20:49Speaker 1: the shoulder, got his feet in. He's not getting the
- 20:53Speaker 1: targets that he got that he got last year, but
- 20:56Speaker 1: he's still making plays when he's called upon. When these
- 20:58Speaker 1: tight ends are called upon, because they're not being used
- 21:00Speaker 1: a lot in this offense so far this year. But
- 21:02Speaker 1: when they are called upon, they seen always make the play.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, they always answer the bell. And it's so
- 21:06Speaker 1: good as he will justly get in the end zone.
- 21:08Speaker 1: This man has overcome so many things in his young
- 21:11Speaker 1: football life. I mean, two of the worst injuries you
- 21:14Speaker 1: can have as a football player. For him to be
- 21:16Speaker 1: back to start the season, first of all, he's had
- 21:17Speaker 1: a huge accomplishment. So got to love when that man
- 21:20Speaker 1: gets in the end zone. Shout out uncle Will, Uncle Will.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Freddie Swaying two catches forwards t yards the second week
- 21:25Speaker 1: in a row where he's gotten two catches, two targets,
- 21:27Speaker 1: two catches. There you're using him in the in the
- 21:29Speaker 1: screen game. His run after the catch is what kind
- 21:31Speaker 1: of makes him special. So they're getting him involved in
- 21:34Speaker 1: a game. David Moore no catches on three targets, but
- 21:37Speaker 1: almost had the catch of the year so far. That
- 21:40Speaker 1: one football he dropped an end zone. Yeah, he kind of.
- 21:42Speaker 1: All the balls are throwing his way were tough plays.
- 21:44Speaker 1: One was a throwaway and the other two were really
- 21:47Speaker 1: tough catch We know what Demo can do. And that's
- 21:49Speaker 1: the thing I love about this Stephen Corps is someone
- 21:52Speaker 1: else can step up every single week. You know what
- 21:53Speaker 1: you're gonna get from k you know you can get
- 21:55Speaker 1: from Tyler, and then they just love spreading that wealth
- 21:57Speaker 1: around and someone's always there to step up, spreading around.
- 22:00Speaker 1: All right, that's the wide receiver round up. Now let's
- 22:02Speaker 1: go to the coach's corner. Here, Russell Wilson finds DK
- 22:05Speaker 1: Metcalf for thirty nine yards on fourth and ten to
- 22:08Speaker 1: keep the game alive. Three receivers to the right homer
- 22:11Speaker 1: in the backfield. Here comes the Flints. Russ steps up,
- 22:14Speaker 1: gonna throw it deep. DK Metcalf ridges up, makes the
- 22:18Speaker 1: catch and knocked out of the house. That's the forty
- 22:20Speaker 1: yard line of the Vikings. Russell, with a beautiful rainbow pass,
- 22:25Speaker 1: stands for the rookie on coverage. Metcalf time This leap
- 22:28Speaker 1: reaches up and gets it so bump. Initially, when we
- 22:31Speaker 1: watch this play, it almost looks like DK throttled down
- 22:35Speaker 1: and stopped and then kind of went back and going.
- 22:37Speaker 1: And now now that we're rewatching it on film, tell
- 22:40Speaker 1: me about his route, it's just a goal route. What
- 22:44Speaker 1: I love about his route is the indicator that he
- 22:47Speaker 1: puts when he gets on the corners, heels and that's
- 22:50Speaker 1: just a hard jab inside. It makes the corner react
- 22:54Speaker 1: and it lets the quarterback No, okay, this is where
- 22:56Speaker 1: I'm head. He can kind of pick up where his
- 22:58Speaker 1: path is going. So this was little things like this
- 23:01Speaker 1: is what makes me excited because he's not putting the
- 23:03Speaker 1: sauce on this route. He's not doing that Week one,
- 23:05Speaker 1: two three, he's not doing that. Now he's comfortable out there,
- 23:08Speaker 1: he's understanding how he wants to attack the defender. He
- 23:10Speaker 1: knows that any movement I do, if I do it
- 23:12Speaker 1: with conviction, this corner has to respect him. He's going
- 23:15Speaker 1: to take those false steps. And now with Russell Wilson,
- 23:18Speaker 1: he just tosses it up. I mean, he's not aiming.
- 23:21Speaker 1: It's like he's shooting a shotgun. He's not aiming. He's
- 23:23Speaker 1: pointing he's just tossing that thing up and giving him
- 23:25Speaker 1: a chance. And also what people aren't going to really see,
- 23:29Speaker 1: Travis homer Man got ran over, but that passpro picked
- 23:33Speaker 1: that he picked up made this thing possible. Oh absolutely,
- 23:36Speaker 1: you got a free rusher coming off the end. He's
- 23:38Speaker 1: lined up on top of tire locker. There he blitz
- 23:41Speaker 1: his late and Travis is the exact right thing. He
- 23:44Speaker 1: steps up in the pocket, makes sure nothing's coming inside,
- 23:46Speaker 1: and then goes straight to the outside. And yes, he
- 23:48Speaker 1: gets run over, But here's the deal about pass protection
- 23:50Speaker 1: and picking up blitzes a running back. You don't need
- 23:52Speaker 1: to stone him, you don't need to blight him up.
- 23:54Speaker 1: You need to get in the person's way, so rusting
- 23:56Speaker 1: throw the football, and people have kind of I think
- 23:58Speaker 1: people have been really unfair to Travis're like, why is
- 24:00Speaker 1: he getting rath blah blah blah. Well, first of all,
- 24:02Speaker 1: a lot of times, unfortunately when he gets in the game,
- 24:04Speaker 1: sometimes things happen to unfortunately for him, break down up front,
- 24:08Speaker 1: so he gets stopped for a two yard loss or
- 24:10Speaker 1: one yard whatever. But the fact that he's in the
- 24:13Speaker 1: game on this drive on fourth and ten of the
- 24:15Speaker 1: game of the line says something about him. The coaching
- 24:17Speaker 1: staffs trust him, and he proved again he's gonna be
- 24:19Speaker 1: in the right spot and it was a huge play
- 24:21Speaker 1: by him. Yep, he's in the game late in the
- 24:23Speaker 1: game when they know they're gonna throw the football, So
- 24:25Speaker 1: that tells me they trust him the most when it
- 24:27Speaker 1: comes to that pass. Bro doesn't mean Chris Carson isn't
- 24:29Speaker 1: good at it. It It just means that, Okay, this young
- 24:31Speaker 1: man does this exceptionally well, so let's do it. Also,
- 24:34Speaker 1: what I want to point out, he's picking up this rusher.
- 24:37Speaker 1: He's on the opposite side of the formation. You know
- 24:39Speaker 1: how hard it is to see a blitz coming from
- 24:41Speaker 1: the other side, the other end, and he gets there.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Just happy to see that young man do his thing
- 24:47Speaker 1: and be in the game during these clutch moments. All right,
- 24:51Speaker 1: greatest formation in football? What is it? Here? Comes the
- 24:56Speaker 1: Seahawk offense onto the field and the Vikings defense crunching
- 24:59Speaker 1: out there knowing that one kneel down and the Seahawks
- 25:04Speaker 1: are gonna wind the clock down and women this one.
- 25:07Speaker 1: It's the victory formation on Hawk Talk, Big three formation.
- 25:12Speaker 1: The Hawks to get it done again. They are five
- 25:13Speaker 1: and now and now, despite playing a really bad first half,
- 25:17Speaker 1: the offense came through when they needed, going on a
- 25:19Speaker 1: third team play ninety four yard drive to win the
- 25:21Speaker 1: game in two big fourth down convergence when they couldn't
- 25:24Speaker 1: even convert on third. I still can't get over that, man,
- 25:28Speaker 1: fourth and ten. I mean, the game is over at
- 25:30Speaker 1: that point, man, especially the first two plays. But this
- 25:33Speaker 1: team is just so resilient in every type of way.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I mean, you start to you start to drive on
- 25:38Speaker 1: the six yard line, knowing you have to get a touchdown.
- 25:41Speaker 1: All the defense has to do is keep you out
- 25:42Speaker 1: of the end zone. They couldn't do it. Love it
- 25:44Speaker 1: when I'm seeing from this offense. Loving when I'm seeing
- 25:47Speaker 1: from this offense. The defense struggled against the run. They
- 25:49Speaker 1: were the third ranked rush defense coming in, but when
- 25:52Speaker 1: they really needed to get a stop, they got to
- 25:54Speaker 1: stop a game of inches. Big Ray pointed out something
- 25:57Speaker 1: last night that Bobby Wagner on that last play on
- 26:00Speaker 1: that fourth down, that the Vikings had came through and
- 26:03Speaker 1: swiped at the football. If he doesn't swipe at the football,
- 26:06Speaker 1: that running back probably reaches the rock out and gets
- 26:09Speaker 1: the first down. The little things like that are will
- 26:11Speaker 1: win ball games. Absolutely, And that's the thing about this team.
- 26:14Speaker 1: We said it was gonna be worth the day in resiliency. Right.
- 26:16Speaker 1: It doesn't matter that they couldn't stop the run all
- 26:19Speaker 1: game long. It didn't matter that they gave up drives
- 26:21Speaker 1: or twelve thirteen, fourteen, fifteen play scoring drives when they
- 26:24Speaker 1: absolutely had to like to have it every point this season,
- 26:27Speaker 1: make a play they did. Great teams find a way
- 26:32Speaker 1: to get it done. It might not be pretty, it
- 26:34Speaker 1: might not be comfortable, it might stress you out, but
- 26:38Speaker 1: end of the day, it's all about wins of losses,
- 26:41Speaker 1: and that's what they do. I'm enjoying watching this football team.
- 26:45Speaker 1: It's a different team than we've seen the last few years.
- 26:47Speaker 1: The offense is the thing that makes this thing go,
- 26:51Speaker 1: but you're gonna need moments from the defense, just like
- 26:54Speaker 1: we saw last night. Ken Russell Wilson. Keep this up.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I'm interested to see. I'm like, is this real? Is
- 26:59Speaker 1: this sustainable? I mean, can can can they go on
- 27:03Speaker 1: a run and and and win five more? The the
- 27:07Speaker 1: the expectations are set for this team, it just makes
- 27:10Speaker 1: me nervous. Now, are they gonna be able to really
- 27:12Speaker 1: keep this pace up? Well, it's um, we keep asking
- 27:15Speaker 1: ourselves that every week, and he keeps proven every single
- 27:17Speaker 1: week as they can. I mean, I think this is
- 27:19Speaker 1: this is who Russell is. This is who this team is.
- 27:21Speaker 1: This offense can score a lot of points and even
- 27:23Speaker 1: when they're down. And my favorite part about this is
- 27:25Speaker 1: it's a it's a baseball analogy that even when you're starting,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you're starting pitcher doesn't have his best stuff that day, right,
- 27:32Speaker 1: he's still the great ones still find a way to
- 27:35Speaker 1: give your chance, your team a chance to win the game.
- 27:37Speaker 1: So maybe you only go five or six innings, you
- 27:39Speaker 1: give a couple of runs, but you don't go out
- 27:40Speaker 1: there and get blown out when you don't have your
- 27:42Speaker 1: best stuff like the defense and then the offense. After
- 27:44Speaker 1: that first half, we didn't we didn't play our best game,
- 27:47Speaker 1: but we found a way to get it done. And
- 27:49Speaker 1: that just shows you that's what great teams are made of.
- 27:51Speaker 1: Before I get out of here, I just got to
- 27:52Speaker 1: remind the people. Cairo Radio and seven ten ESPN Seattle's
- 27:56Speaker 1: your home for the Seattle Seahawks and the Pete Carroll Show.

- 28:11Speaker 1: Bumpus bump We got a lot of things to fix,
- 28:13Speaker 1: but less listen here, you can fix all that because
- 28:16Speaker 1: you're five and oh for the first time in franchise history.
- 28:19Speaker 1: This team is rolling, first time in franchise history, and
- 28:23Speaker 1: they get a buye. Jamal Adams is gonna get healthy.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Other guys who are banged up. You Potti's banged up
- 28:28Speaker 1: comes out of perfect time. But like you said, five
- 28:30Speaker 1: and oh feels good. All right, that is Hawk Talk
- 28:34Speaker 1: Recap Edition. I'm Michael Bumps along with Nasa Choby. Your
