- 0:19Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of Most Things Kenobi, a
- 0:22podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:26I'm your host, Lauren. And I'm your host, Leanne.
- 0:30And this week we are back to Obi Wan Kenobi baby.
- 0:35Yeah, yeah, yeah. We are going to talk about the
- 0:38original concept for the Kenobi series.
- 0:42It was kind of used as a general structure for the show, but it
- 0:46the original idea is actually pretty different than what we
- 0:49ended up getting, so. I'm surprised at how different.
- 0:53Right, like it was. It's pretty pretty different.
- 0:57How did they even get what we got from that?
- 1:03I know. It's, I don't know.
- 1:06I don't know. It's it's really very, very,
- 1:09very different. Like one thing was the same
- 1:12basically that I took from the description of it all.
- 1:16I don't know. I'm curious to hear your take
- 1:19because I I have some feelings. Yeah, I have.
- 1:24As I usually do. I would say I have mixed
- 1:27feelings on it. There's some things I like and
- 1:30some things where I'm like, I don't think that would be super
- 1:33great, but right. So the screenwriter was
- 1:37originally Stuart, BD, right? Yeah, BD, BD.
- 1:44Sorry if I'm saying that wrong. I think it's BD BD.
- 1:50He's an Australian screenwriter and he wrote The Pirates of the
- 1:56Caribbean, The Black Pearl like the original 1.
- 2:00The good one. Right, exactly the only one.
- 2:03I really liked with it. No, it was so fresh at the time.
- 2:08But then he wrote Collateral and I think was nominated for an
- 2:13Oscar at a BAFTA and everything for that.
- 2:14But I don't like that movie. I think it has a really weak
- 2:17script. Yeah.
- 2:18I don't think I've ever seen it. I love Michael Mann, he is one
- 2:22of my favorite directors of all time and that movie is so
- 2:27contrived to me and nothing about it felt genuine.
- 2:31But interesting. Except Tom.
- 2:33Cruise, which is funny 'cause sometimes I feel like Tom Cruise
- 2:35is really forced, but I really like him.
- 2:37Totally. But yeah.
- 2:39Yeah, I feel the same way about Tom Cruise.
- 2:41Yeah, it's like he's always just Tom Cruise.
- 2:43And sometimes, yeah, that's fine.
- 2:45But in this movie they had him. He had, like, white hair.
- 2:48He was not looking like himself. And I think it kind of like, let
- 2:52him go a little bit into the character, and that was more
- 2:55enjoyable. But I still felt the story was
- 2:57super weak. Oh, he also wrote Australia,
- 3:01which is kind of like that big famous movie with Nicole Kidman
- 3:06and Hugh Jackman, I think. Right, that's his.
- 3:09Name the two most perfect Australian actors that you can
- 3:12get. Truly, they are ridiculously
- 3:17beautiful people. Really.
- 3:20Truly. Oh, he also wrote Derailed,
- 3:25which I hate. I hate that movie.
- 3:28This has gone from great to I didn't like that to terrible.
- 3:32Yeah, like, oh, I don't like that movie.
- 3:35It's and I don't, I, I have to be honest, I don't really
- 3:39remember the script so much as that that movie was just not
- 3:43pleasant to watch. So I'm not necessarily super
- 3:47disappointed that he didn't end up writing the script because
- 3:50generally I I haven't really liked his work except Pirates of
- 3:54the Caribbean, which I fucking loved.
- 3:57Yeah. So I don't know, he gets
- 3:59credited with the story in Obi Wan Kenobi, but that's because
- 4:04he came up with the general like structure.
- 4:08But it's so different what they ended up doing compared to what
- 4:11he he's discussed on podcasts and stuff like that.
- 4:15I don't know if he's he's not released his original script
- 4:20anywhere from what I understand. Here's my question to Mr.
- 4:24Beattie. Has he ever watched Clone Wars?
- 4:28He, he didn't make reference to it, did he?
- 4:31In one of the interviews that I read, I think because he knew.
- 4:35So he does know about Ahsoka. Tano, OH just.
- 4:40Asking you see where I'm going with?
- 4:43This instant teen crees right? Like kind.
- 4:45Of, oh, I mean, while we're at it, yeah.
- 4:50I don't know. I was just two names.
- 4:52I thought Mike come. Up just a question, a good a
- 4:55good question. I didn't see it mentioned
- 5:00anywhere if he scrapped scripts so.
- 5:04No, he didn't mention it and he did mention Cody, which?
- 5:07Yes. Yes, I think of all the ideas
- 5:11that he kind of put out there as possibilities.
- 5:13I like that idea, but not necessarily the way he intended
- 5:19to bring it in. I don't know I'm.
- 5:21I'm also with you. Let's talk about the Cody
- 5:23element first. Shall we?
- 5:25Let's do it. Well, so from what I gather,
- 5:28Cody was supposed to be on Tatooine and meet up with Kenobi
- 5:34kind of haphazardly. Yeah, when he described, you
- 5:38probably read the same thing, right?
- 5:40Where Like everyone's walking down an alley and Cody pops out
- 5:43and puts a knife to his throat and he's like, you're not being
- 5:46careful. Is that the first time they meet
- 5:48or is that just? I'm guessing that's how I
- 5:51gathered OK. Which is a weird way to say hi.
- 5:56I mean, how else are they going to say it though?
- 6:02Like he tried to kill him. He can't just walk up and be
- 6:07like hey buddy, hey pal, no, sorry A.
- 6:10Richer way of doing? I don't know, it could be way
- 6:13more tasty, but whatever. 100% So let's say we're dealt this.
- 6:19OK the the part I think that you don't like, cuz I didn't like it
- 6:25either, is that they go on to bicker throughout their time on
- 6:29Tatooine like an old married couple.
- 6:31Yeah. And I don't see that happening.
- 6:33That was not their dynamic, no. No, never.
- 6:37There was a respect like a general and and was very Rex was
- 6:44more personable, Yeah, even though he was also very
- 6:48military, very respectful, very about the job, right.
- 6:53All the clones were. Yeah.
- 6:54But there was a little more, like he let loose a little more.
- 6:59Yeah, and he was kind of caught between Anakin and Ahsoka, who
- 7:02were always bickering. It was their dynamic.
- 7:05It was not Obi Wan. Not yeah, yeah.
- 7:08So I could see him like, hey, dumb ass, you're not being,
- 7:13like, cautious enough. And Obi Wan being like, Oh my
- 7:16God, is it really you? And then then that's where
- 7:20additional effort would be needed to smooth that out.
- 7:24But the basis of it is Obi Wan goes through his like dark times
- 7:30and leaves Tatooine and Cody is left to watch over Luke while
- 7:34he's gone. Which is an interesting thing
- 7:37because Cody never really had a lot of interaction with Anakin
- 7:41or Padme for that matter. Again, Rex, not Cody, but I
- 7:45could see Cody doing that for Obi Wan.
- 7:48I could see him doing that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:50Like, and it was like their B plot where you'd cut back to
- 7:54Cody ripping his hair out to take care of a child.
- 7:58I don't know. Well then he would have to deal
- 8:00with Lars and I think that would be interesting.
- 8:03But I enjoyed Obi Wan and Lars having some discourse.
- 8:07I really enjoyed that because it's it's very realistic given
- 8:10the situation. I agree.
- 8:13It was very good. I felt believable attention that
- 8:17existed in the actual show very much.
- 8:20And I'm going to be honest, I would if you're going to bring
- 8:23Cody back. Yeah.
- 8:25I don't want Cody to watch over Luke and Obi Wan to leave.
- 8:29I want to see first of all Cody realizing what happened and then
- 8:35when he goes to find Obi Wan, the last time they saw each
- 8:38other Cody tried to kill him. Wouldn't there need to be time
- 8:41of rebuilding trust and Obi Wan not really really trusting Cody
- 8:46for a while? I think that's more interesting
- 8:49personally than them suddenly hitting it off and bickering.
- 8:53I think Cody should have been the one to see the clone in the
- 8:58like the homeless clone in that city.
- 9:02Where was that? Honestly, I can't remember the
- 9:04name of it. It was like the.
- 9:06But you remember how he was like down and out on the ground,
- 9:09dirty. Yeah, when Obi Wan was looking
- 9:11for the drug Lord facility, yes. I think that could have been
- 9:16very interesting if they'd have had Cody see that because Cody
- 9:22did this, he partook in this, and that's one of his actual
- 9:27brothers. Yeah, it'd be interesting to see
- 9:30him figure out what to do with that.
- 9:34When they started in Bad Batch, and granted I didn't finish the
- 9:38last season so I don't know if they ever concluded this at all,
- 9:42but they started to show Cody starting to shift a little bit
- 9:49and he was beginning to question what they were doing with the
- 9:54Empire now that he was serving the Empire instead of serving
- 9:57the Jedi. And they never concluded it.
- 10:01They never actually had him say it either.
- 10:03They just kind of implied it. And I always thought because if
- 10:08they do like a season 2 of the Kenobi series, they could pull
- 10:11that in there somehow and it could be interesting.
- 10:14Oh, for sure, yeah. 'Cause I, like I know a lot of
- 10:16people have said bringing Obi Wan and Cody back together
- 10:20somehow, even if it's not pleasant, would be very
- 10:23interesting to watch. 100% they'd have to be gentle with it
- 10:29and do it right. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:30Just don't thrust them together. This has to be well thought out.
- 10:34Yeah, yeah. This is not a rushed thing
- 10:37'cause there's too much there. When some people were saying it
- 10:40felt like fan service in in Stewart's original idea for the
- 10:44script, that it felt like less that Cody had a purpose and more
- 10:48that he was just kind of like the B story to keep people
- 10:51entertained. But it wasn't.
- 10:53Necessarily glad that we didn't get that.
- 10:56Yeah, because it didn't feel super truthful to the characters
- 11:01in my opinion. I think it's OK that nobody
- 11:05watched over Luke. Yeah, it added.
- 11:08It added tension. Yes.
- 11:10Because that was that was Obi Wan's thing.
- 11:13He had to. That's what he devoted himself
- 11:15to. And just.
- 11:17Going to take him away was his sister.
- 11:19Oh, really? Yeah, you read my mind.
- 11:22Well, Well, part of Stewart's original script was that Obi Wan
- 11:26was like living with Luke and training him right off the bat.
- 11:30I'm not a fan of this. I'm not a fan.
- 11:32Of it. OK, I was gonna ask what you
- 11:33thought of it. I'm the same.
- 11:34What do you think? I don't like it either.
- 11:36I think it's. Well, here we are.
- 11:37Space wins. What a shock.
- 11:41Right. Space wins again.
- 11:45I mean the whole concept in A New Hope, when Luke sees Obi
- 11:49Wan, Yeah, it seems as though they they know of each other,
- 11:53but that they do not know each other.
- 11:57Obi Wan knows more about him than Luke knows about Obi Wan.
- 12:02But there's something there, yes, Which I think you you could
- 12:07this is my kind of fanservice. You could blame that on the
- 12:09Force that they connected when they did see each other like at
- 12:13the end of the Kenobi series that there was a force
- 12:15connection and Luke is remembering or kind of trying to
- 12:21like the essence of Obi Wan. It's that thing.
- 12:24It's not his smell. I'm talking about like his
- 12:28forced signature. If Obi Wan had a Cologne, it
- 12:34would be called the essence of Obi.
- 12:36Wan, he's going to say bottle that up and sell it.
- 12:42Oh God, I was trying to make a good point, I think, or just a
- 12:48point. What I'm saying is I think Luke
- 12:50would recognize him through the forts.
- 12:52Yeah, the familiarity, just like how they they even implied that
- 12:57Leia didn't, they implied that like Leia recognized Padme or
- 13:01something like that because of like a or like when she said
- 13:04feelings, you know, when Luke asks totally remember your
- 13:07mother. So that was, I think that would
- 13:09totally make sense. Totally.
- 13:11Yep. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:13There's there. I mean in the comic books they
- 13:16do talk about Obi Wan watching over Luke but not being in his
- 13:22life. So there's I think there's a
- 13:24story where Luke ends up out in the desert at night and Obi Wan
- 13:27carries him home back to the. Lawyers.
- 13:29Yeah, I would, I would love that.
- 13:30Yeah, I love that very much. So again, like, kind of, you
- 13:34know, a ghost in the night, saving the day, leaving the boy
- 13:38in safety and going back to retreat.
- 13:39I don't know if that was supposed to take place before
- 13:45the Kenobi series. I'd have to go back and check
- 13:47the comic book. And I don't know, comics I think
- 13:49are they really considered Canon and part of the story?
- 13:53It depends on which ones and when and who.
- 13:56Yeah, this is a newer Marvel 1, so it's not like a Legends one,
- 14:00but who knows still at this point.
- 14:04Yeah, I I think it would have weakens A New Hope, or at least
- 14:09given a lot of opportunity to undermine A New Hope if that had
- 14:13been the story we got. Yeah, I think they they bridged
- 14:18a lot of gaps very carefully. But overall, what we got in the
- 14:22Kenobi show was a wrap up, a closure of Revenge of the Sith,
- 14:27more so than a prelude to A New Hope, which I think is good.
- 14:33Yeah. The audience is growing up and
- 14:38the audience grew up with Revenge of the Sith.
- 14:40They know Hayden, you know, they know you.
- 14:42And this is this is this generation's version of them.
- 14:46And I think having it post Revenge of the Sith kind of wrap
- 14:51up with Clone Wars is better than like try to set up New
- 14:55Hope. New Hope doesn't need a setup.
- 14:58Yes. We have Rogue One for that
- 15:00pretty much. And what a setup that is, holy
- 15:03shit. What did you think about the
- 15:07Vader and Obi Wan duel from B DS?
- 15:11Lost script or dumped script? Reminded me what the setup is
- 15:16about it 'cause. Well they were supposed to duel,
- 15:18but it was on a space station that falls into OH.
- 15:21Yeah. Like it falls into a gas planet
- 15:24or something and is get gets destroyed.
- 15:26Right and Reva. Reva's there.
- 15:30Yeah. And she dies.
- 15:33She doesn't carry on. She tells Vader she killed Obi
- 15:36Wan to protect Obi Wan's escape, right?
- 15:39That's the idea. Yeah.
- 15:41I don't think it's a bad idea. I I like the idea of falling
- 15:46into a gas giant. That's kind of fun.
- 15:52I didn't like it as much as what we got.
- 15:55I like the cold Stony, it was very symbolic.
- 16:02'Cause it's very opposite of Mustafar, yeah, which we've deep
- 16:06dived into this. Go find that episode.
- 16:08I love when we talked about the Kenobi battles that like the
- 16:11different battles that Obi Wan has done.
- 16:13And the Kenobi series is so like, there's a reference to
- 16:17Phantom Menace. There's a reference to the being
- 16:20the the opposite of Revenge of the Sith, which is so
- 16:24meaningful. Yes.
- 16:27And I liked, I did like that better.
- 16:29I don't think I would have necessarily disliked what Stuart
- 16:33Beatty had had conceptualized and the idea of Reva maybe
- 16:38actually being good and like helping Obi Wan.
- 16:43I think that makes more sense than what she did in the show.
- 16:47Yeah, which? You and I talked about that
- 16:50where it's kind of like why, why did she go go after Luke and
- 16:55where did that come a. Great character done extremely
- 16:59well by the actress. I just don't think the
- 17:01character's end was. I don't know, this would have
- 17:07given her something else. Really what the script said was
- 17:11is that Obi Wan manages to escape, Riva let's him and then
- 17:19Vader. She claims to have killed Obi
- 17:24Wan and Vader's pissed that he wasn't the one to do it so he
- 17:27kills her. Yes.
- 17:29And like she's sacrificed essentially knowing she allowed
- 17:33Obi Wan to go and then her pain is ended when like all of her
- 17:38pain with Vader and what happened to her as a kid and all
- 17:41this stuff padawan etcetera. So we get closure for her.
- 17:45We do get closure for her. We lose the actress and and and
- 17:50the character, but I think it makes a lot more sense.
- 17:52However, I'm not OK with Vader should have known that he wasn't
- 17:57dead. He would have felt it.
- 17:59He's been feeling him this whole time.
- 18:01Yeah, so I don't believe that. I think it would have been
- 18:06believable if Vader let her think it killed her just to get
- 18:10rid of her and then went back on his his bullshit until Palpatine
- 18:15says, hey, I need you to focus. We have a war here or we have a
- 18:19Galaxy to run or whatever. So like, you know.
- 18:23I need your laser focus right here.
- 18:25Right here. Yeah, I agree.
- 18:29And I think it it had the potential for a little bit of
- 18:32stronger closure for a lot of the characters.
- 18:35But like you said, there's it's not perfect still.
- 18:38And I liked what we got, but also 'cause I loved, I honestly
- 18:43love seeing Aunt Peru be a fucking badass.
- 18:46Oh for sure yes that was so awesome.
- 18:49They had that shit figured out and planned and ready to go like
- 18:53they practiced it. I loved everything about That's
- 18:55a Homestead. Defending their home and their
- 18:57life and their kid like that is exactly what I would expect from
- 19:02those two. And it finally gave Owen a
- 19:05chance to say he is mine. Like, I do love him, even though
- 19:08he's gruff and cranky and tough. Yeah, that was great.
- 19:13I loved that Riva's God getting stabbed in the abdomen and
- 19:20surviving. And then here we go.
- 19:23Yeah. And like, I liked that she kind
- 19:24of had her little moment of redemption with Obi Wan and he
- 19:27helped pull her into like, I guess forgiving her whatever it
- 19:31was that she needed and she could potentially come back in
- 19:36the future or maybe she'll help on the path with Force sensitive
- 19:41kids or whatever. But it was less closure, and it
- 19:44left a lot of people feeling like what just happened, like.
- 19:47Yeah, she. Sure changed her tune real quick
- 19:51after being on a rampage for a long time.
- 19:53So yeah. I still can't get over her duel
- 19:59that wasn't with Vader. Yeah, that was so good.
- 20:07So good on like Vader's part of just a mouse.
- 20:11And a cat. A cat just batting a mouse
- 20:14around. I hate to even say that because
- 20:17it makes me sad, but that poor mouse.
- 20:21I know, I know you. Just can't turns me on.
- 20:27Not the cat and the mouse, but like I know Anakin's in there
- 20:30and it's enough for me to be like, I'm sorry, I never said I
- 20:36was right. And never, and I'll never say
- 20:43it, I do think it would be super cruel.
- 20:50Say the script went through and and Riva let's Obi Wan go and
- 20:54she thinks she's doing something really good for Obi Wan.
- 20:56But Vader already knows that he's not dead.
- 20:59Like if that was the be the change and he kills her letting
- 21:02her think whatever she wants, that's kind of cruel.
- 21:05Yeah. She dies thinking she did
- 21:07something and he just kills her because it's just another body
- 21:11count for him. Yeah, he's so flippant about
- 21:15killing random people, he's got no problem with it at.
- 21:18All no problem 0 there's no. That's my final thought on that.
- 21:22Well, there's no mention in in Stuart Beatty's treatment or
- 21:28script, whatever of that interaction we got on the mining
- 21:33planet. True can't.
- 21:36Remember what that was called? But that whole episode was I
- 21:40think my favorite from all of the Kenobi series because there
- 21:44was this great interaction with Leia and Obi Wan but then the
- 21:47the like awful duel between Vader and Kenobi and Vader
- 21:52lights him on fire and drags him.
- 21:54Through the fire, truly. Would that have happened?
- 21:58I don't. I don't think so.
- 22:01I there was no mention of that. Who came up with that?
- 22:03Because bravo, it's the exact kind of like it's, it's like
- 22:10next level terror and ruthlessness from Vader that we
- 22:15want. That's the Vader that is like
- 22:17absolutely 0. Respect for Life 0.
- 22:22I saw on Reddit, there was a thread there where people were
- 22:26talking about how originally it was supposed to be very bleak,
- 22:31like the Kenobi series was going to be very dark, and Catherine
- 22:34Kennedy wanted to put a stop to it because she felt it was going
- 22:36in the wrong direction. And in this threat, people were
- 22:39saying, I know people were saying the favorite parts of the
- 22:43Kenobi series are the bleakest parts, and they even mentioned
- 22:46that part where Vader drags the lady down the alley and all that
- 22:52stuff. It's true, Star Wars is supposed
- 22:55to be about hope, but we need the contrast, right?
- 22:59So that we feel the hope when it comes so. 100% we need.
- 23:04Bleak, but we need to recover from it, I think, and that's not
- 23:08something we get in other fandoms always.
- 23:11And that should be, I mean should be something quote UN
- 23:14quote air quotes, something we get from Star Wars 'cause that
- 23:16was George Lucas's original idea.
- 23:18But. Yes.
- 23:21You and I like dark, we like bleak.
- 23:25Well, it's so gratifying because on the other side, we know who
- 23:30prevails, and it's the good guys, the hope, those who cling
- 23:35to the light. We want that dark because it
- 23:41evokes something in US and we're scared, but we know we can rise
- 23:45up from it. And that's kind of the what the
- 23:49rebellion is. Absolutely.
- 23:52We need to know that the leaders are ruthless.
- 23:56Right. And it's then it's, it's
- 23:58justified kind of also for the rebellion to be how they are.
- 24:04Yeah, and everything that Cassian says.
- 24:06We've all done terrible things in the name of this rebellion.
- 24:09Yeah. Against the Empire, I mean,
- 24:11something has to be justified. And it's, listen, Palpatine
- 24:15alone, OK? He's a different, he's a
- 24:18different cat. We're talking like the layers
- 24:21below him, the Tarkins and the the Vaders and everyone
- 24:26underneath them. You know, there's How could I
- 24:30forget my boy in The Cave? Renick, are you talking about?
- 24:38Yes, there's layers to this shit player like.
- 24:44There's ape layers. There's layers of attire as
- 24:48well, like all the way down to the dedras if you will.
- 24:52The ruthless will do anything to make it will do anything to rise
- 24:57higher in the ranks to try and appease those at the top like
- 25:01Vader and Palpatine and Tarkin the the three headed monster.
- 25:06Like the? Empire is not OK.
- 25:11Yeah. And it shouldn't be portrayed as
- 25:14just some entity that's like, oh, they're scary, but we really
- 25:17don't know why. Right and that's why I think
- 25:21Andor brings so much to to that side of it.
- 25:25You know, I that was the first time I remember after watching
- 25:29the Narcena 5 episodes feeling so low and it was just like,
- 25:37this must be what it. I mean a.
- 25:39Fraction of what it's like that the characters are feeling, you
- 25:42know? Right.
- 25:44But thank God they like pulled us out of it, but not before
- 25:47kicking us in the ass one more time.
- 25:50Exactly. OK, Yeah, I I thought that's
- 25:53where we were going and I hate it.
- 25:56I know I just, it still hurts and it will hurt forever.
- 26:01I will say something I did like about his structure, like his
- 26:05concept. Yeah, as he had the thought that
- 26:08there were three stages Obi Wan had to go through to get him to
- 26:11like the New Hope version. Part of it.
- 26:15I think the first one is where he said he had to come to terms
- 26:17with the Force and like letting go of.
- 26:21Which we got. Yes, in a sense, yeah.
- 26:26I forget what he said this. He didn't even say what the
- 26:29third concept was, but the second concept was.
- 26:33Oh, Luke. Yes.
- 26:35His two most relation important relationships, his relationship
- 26:39with the Force and his relationship with Luke.
- 26:41Yes, and. So.
- 26:43The idea of coming to terms with his mortality.
- 26:46Right, because when we get to A New Hope and he dies, why does
- 26:49he die so easily? Why does he is just OK with it?
- 26:53Exactly. Yeah, like exploring that.
- 26:56And he was suggesting it would be through Qui Gon and Qui Gon
- 27:00maybe warning him that there will come a time where you're
- 27:02you're going to have to sacrifice yourself for the
- 27:04greater good. And Obi one finding a way of
- 27:07coming to terms with that so that it doesn't seem like such a
- 27:10throwaway decision in a New Hope.
- 27:13That could have been cool. It's not, well, the fact that I
- 27:17think we got that through his interactions with Leia, because
- 27:20that's isn't that. The only time he sees Leia since
- 27:24then is when him and when, when? Excuse me, When she and Luke
- 27:28come running in there and he's with Vader, and he looks over
- 27:31and he gives that smile. We are now interpreting that as
- 27:36OK, they're together. They've got this.
- 27:38My, my job is done. Yeah, I'm out.
- 27:42Which I think is beautiful. I think so too.
- 27:44I love that idea that I mean, who knows if they come up,
- 27:48they've they're now batting around the idea of maybe doing a
- 27:51season 2 for Kenobi. I don't know how serious that
- 27:55is, but who knows what they could introduce there.
- 27:57But for now, that is how I interpret that and I love that
- 28:01now. It makes me so emotional when I
- 28:03watch A New Hope now. It completely changes everything
- 28:08about that, and not in a bad way.
- 28:10It gives it depth, it gives it meaning, yeah, Which they did
- 28:16really well. When in some of these articles
- 28:18that we've been reading about this prior script, people were
- 28:23saying that they found it kind of frustrating that it focused
- 28:26more on Obi Wan and Leia. And I really liked that,
- 28:29actually. I was not expecting it at all.
- 28:32I'd never thought they would. I didn't think they would touch
- 28:34that. I didn't even honestly think
- 28:36that they were going to touch Luke.
- 28:37I thought it was going to be like you'd see him in the
- 28:39background and then Obi Wan would be on some space
- 28:41adventure, right? I thought the Leia plotline was
- 28:46really enjoyable. Personally.
- 28:47It was one of my favorite things that they brought.
- 28:51It really does make sense if Luke, if Obi Wan is going to
- 28:55leave Luke, it's for his twin. Yeah.
- 29:00He loved Anakin and Padme. They had two children.
- 29:05Yeah. It makes complete sense why and
- 29:09and and Bale to call on Obi Wan is exactly Bale telling Leia to
- 29:16call on Obi Wan. That makes complete sense.
- 29:21Yeah. Now, like Leia's infamous
- 29:24message to Obi Wan is, makes sense, Bale knows that he can be
- 29:27counted on. And so does Leia.
- 29:30That's why she knows it's worth risking everything to go there
- 29:33for him. Yeah.
- 29:35Yeah, do I have to say it? Say what?
- 29:45Star Wars is pain. Of course.
- 29:49But it's beautiful. It's the train.
- 29:51Though. It is.
- 29:54So in general, how would you wrap it up?
- 29:56Would you say that you preferred what we got or you would have
- 29:58liked to see what he had originally planned?
- 30:04I like what we got. However, I could see some of
- 30:09these things working with a little bit of adjustment here
- 30:14and there, maybe not verbatim from what we know.
- 30:17What? You know what we do know about
- 30:19these scripts without actually having them?
- 30:22Everything comes in and then gets readjusted.
- 30:28Every script, right? A little tweak here, a little
- 30:30tweak there, blah blah blah. Sometimes on set while they're
- 30:33filming. Seriously.
- 30:35But I think the core things, what we got with the Kenobi
- 30:40show, we must keep. I, I, I would not trade those
- 30:44for another script. How about you?
- 30:47I agree, I I feel the same way. I think that this I guess this
- 30:51encompassed because he had originally planned it as a
- 30:53trilogy of films. Right.
- 30:56That would not have worked. I think it would have been
- 30:58dragged on. It'd have been too much.
- 31:00Well, and this plan was right while Solo was coming out.
- 31:06Right, and that's why it never went through.
- 31:08Yeah, and like Solo got such a bad reception that it just
- 31:11tanked all the other movie projects at the time.
- 31:15And maybe for the best, I don't know 'cause would this have
- 31:20worked better as a movie? Would it have had a bigger
- 31:24budget? Would they have not filmed it on
- 31:26the volume? And would it have looked better
- 31:28to me personally? Maybe I wouldn't have minded
- 31:32that so much, but I did like give them.
- 31:35More it gives you more chances of failure.
- 31:39They they take, you know, if you give them X amount of time, like
- 31:433 movies, they're going to add a lot more filler that isn't
- 31:47necessary. You're right, yeah.
- 31:48You're really right, so I would be afraid to trade off having
- 31:51bigger budget more time when just do it in this amount and do
- 31:57what needs to be shown. Would you like a season 2 do you
- 32:01think? I still don't know.
- 32:03I I still don't know. I think it's perfect the way it
- 32:06is. I don't know.
- 32:09I don't I still. Don't know like you said and
- 32:10more opportunities to fuck something.
- 32:13I know, but just let him ride off into the sunset on his EOP
- 32:21with Horse Goes Qui Gon and let them go talk about whatever
- 32:24they're going to talk about and we'll see in A New Hope.
- 32:27That's where I'm at with it. We're lucky for what we got.
- 32:32I don't. I don't want to push it.
- 32:34That's true. What?
- 32:35I'm. I mean, like, I don't know, I'm
- 32:37so tired on it now because I would have loved to see him
- 32:42reconnecting with Qui Gon and struggling.
- 32:44But now that's done. He's come to the acceptance.
- 32:47Yeah. So right.
- 32:48There might not really be any need for that at this point.
- 32:52Could it be cool to see how he learns to become one with the
- 32:55Force? That might be cool.
- 32:56Like how Yoda had to go off and go to the wills.
- 33:00And do I want to see him with Quinlan?
- 33:02Yes, I do. Yes, we're still with that, yes.
- 33:08I would really like that I. Would really like that too, but
- 33:11like we said. Yeah.
- 33:14Maybe to better leave it be and have our brains work.
- 33:17Right at this point it's gilding the Lily.
- 33:19I think we've got pretty good what they gave us so.
- 33:24Obi Wan and Vader are kind of like we gave you this because
- 33:29they're the Ogs, no more because they're too special.
- 33:31It's true. It's like the pinnacle.
- 33:33There's nowhere to go from there.
- 33:35That's the best you're going to get.
- 33:37That's it. They have a New Hope and
- 33:39everything after that it's they're the Ogs.
- 33:41Like that's it, leave them be. Yeah, that's where I'm at.
- 33:45Yeah. So the question for you this
- 33:54week, would you have preferred to see Cody in the Kenobi
- 33:59series? So why tell us all your
- 34:02thoughts? Gosh, we are here to catch your
- 34:04thoughts. Now the next episode we're going
- 34:12to talk about Anakin and Rex in their dynamic.
- 34:17So we talked about kind of the Cody Kenobi thing when talking
- 34:21about the scripts that never came to be.
- 34:24We kind of got the vibe that you know what, let's explore the
- 34:27other half of this, the sloppier half, the Messier pair.
- 34:33No, they had an interesting dynamic.
- 34:36And of course, we'll we'll bring Ahsoka into the mix.
- 34:40But there's a lot there to cover with Anakin and Rex and what
- 34:44could have been, you know, what if Rex knew?
- 34:47What if Rex ever found out after the fact?
- 34:50All this stuff. There's a lot there.
- 34:52Did you know the stuff he knew about Padme?
- 34:54There's just a lot to cover. So we're going to talk about
- 34:57those two in our next episode. And in our last episode we
- 35:05discussed James Earl Jones and his iconic amazing voice and we
- 35:11asked people what was their first introduction to him if it
- 35:14wasn't Star Wars and Coffee Addicted 1988 said.
- 35:20Pretty sure my introduction to his iconic voice was through
- 35:23Mufasa. Not sure what I was right, same
- 35:26as you. Mine too.
- 35:29Not sure when I watched Star Wars for the first time with my
- 35:33dad. Same here.
- 35:36All I can say was both were on VHS at the same at the time.
- 35:40James Earl Jones will be missed but never forgotten.
- 35:44Absolutely, 100%. Got a lot of great responses to
- 35:48with people saying their favorite Vader lines.
- 35:51It was great. There's so many good there's.
- 35:54Man, that could be a whole other episode.
- 35:58Really good we can fill ours, but thank you so much for
- 36:02writing and we really appreciate it guys.
