2:25
going to talk to a member of the wv U Kanah Valley Alumni Association about
2:30
that coming up a little bit later on as well. I got a breaking
2:32
the news story here I need to put out here. It's actually happened last
2:38
night, and we will have more available on it at wv Metronews dot com
2:40
at WCCHS Network dot com, but WCCHS Television no relation. Eyewitness News reporting
2:49
that Charleston Police Chief Scott Dempsey confirmed it to them that the investigation into Ty
2:53
Kunt, former police chief, was complete and that he is currently suspended.
2:59
That is a Chief Dempsey. He did confirm that the investigation wrapped up earlier
3:02
this month, and that ty count suspension started on Monday. Now, Chief
3:08
Dempsey could not confirm how long the suspension would be. Kind of breaking news,
3:13
as I said, just reported by eyewitness news television, no relation.
3:16
And Jeff and the crew will have more on that coming up a little bit
3:19
later on. And welcome into the show. Greg Thomas, Republican strategiest Hey
3:23
man, good morning. How are you going fine, buddy? How are
3:27
you? I'm doing well? So what's uh, what's new with you?
3:30
Busy? Is there something going on with you know about it? Busy man?
3:34
There's you know, a lot of campaigns have been going for a while,
3:38
right, I mean, I think a lot of your you know,
3:40
sort of the bigger races that have been been pretty active kind of immediately after
3:45
the legislative session, and now you're seeing kind of stuff from a lot of
3:49
the county wide level races and delegate races, and obviously, you know,
3:54
people have been seeing the governor stuff for a little while governor's race stuff.
3:58
But yeah, really, busy man, I think it's going to be It's
4:01
weird, you know. I I I think the interest level in this year's
4:05
election is very high among people that follow politics, you know what I mean.
4:12
So I think I think there's a lot of activity, especially on the
4:15
Republican side to where you're you're going to see, you know, I think
4:19
that's going to keep the turnout up. But I do think there are a
4:24
lot of people that are just so disaffected by this stuff going on in Washington
4:28
that you know, they're just kind of thrown their hands up and it's like
4:30
why I even do this? You know. So I think we're going to
4:33
end up with sort of a medium level turnout because I think you're just going
4:39
to get like people that are even somewhat interested in politics are going to be
4:42
going out. So I think it's like sort of high on that end,
4:46
but on the other end of like you know, well should I even go?
4:50
And the fact that you know, neither of the presidential races, you
4:53
know, the presidential races are over to you know, so there's like not
4:57
a reason to go vote for Trump other than the sort of the sentiment,
5:00
right, And I do think there's a lot of that. I mean,
5:01
you know, we hear it. You know, we do a lot of
5:03
door to door and we hear it. You know, people say that like
5:06
I'm going to vote for Trump. You know, even though it doesn't matter
5:09
if they go or not, you know they're going to vote for Trump.
5:12
So I think, you know, so, I think you're gonna see pretty
5:15
pretty good turnout. I'm gonna get a little preview of something that's going to
5:17
happen next hour on talk Line Top of the show, and you don't want
5:19
to miss this Hoppy segment. One we'll have on Rex repass of Research West
5:24
Virginia with the results of the Metro News West Virginia poll and the race for
5:28
the Republican nomination for governor. I don't know what those results are. I'll
5:31
be listening like everyone else at ten oh six as Hoppy and Rex will break
5:35
all that down again. That's Top of the Hour, next next hour,
5:39
ten oh six. But Greg, most polls have shown most more seeing the
5:44
lead, kind of a flip flop on some between more Capito and Chris Miller
5:46
with Mike Warner and fourth. My takeaway though, as I said yesterday,
5:50
is and we're a month away from the election, man undecided is still in
5:55
second place, and I know a lot of West Virginians still haven't made up
6:00
her mind yet. And the and the and the Republican race for governor.
6:01
I would say that in a poll, I would say, if you took
6:05
a there's different ways to take a survey. And that's why, you know,
6:09
people will say, well of these polls so different. And one of
6:12
the reasons is you can ask a poll and just be like, all right,
6:15
here's the four people running who you're going to vote for? Right,
6:16
And if you just do that and say, okay, well I picked I
6:19
pick A, B, C, D, right, and then other polls
6:23
like really force him. It's like, well, if you had to pick
6:26
today, I mean, just tell me a name, which name, you
6:28
know what I mean, and they sort of force you into a ballot if
6:31
you don't have live callers that are really forcing somebody into a decision. Undecided
6:36
is the winner right now? You know? And so it really is.
6:41
It still is up for grabs, obviously more season. You know, has
6:45
been in a commanding position the entire campaign so far. Look, he's been
6:49
around for a while. You know, he ran, he's been the attorney
6:53
general, he's run statewide several times. You know, he ran for US
6:57
Senate and lost a mansion. Uh, you know, so his name,
7:00
My idea is very high. No Obviously, not everybody that knows him likes
7:04
him, which is why he doesn't have a commanding, you know, overwhelming
7:08
lead, but he certainly has a lead. And you know, Chris Miller
7:11
has come on. You know, obviously he was in fourth on January first,
7:15
and now in most polls he's second, you know, and he's he's
7:18
really coming on strong, and he's running a very aggressive campaign, not only
7:23
to promote his own stuff, but to go after Morrissey. And then you
7:27
kind of have vice versa. Yeah, yeah, and he's coming in some
7:30
I mean, if you would think if you turn on your television at least
7:32
right now and into some point radio, if you turned it on, that
7:35
there's only two people in this in this race, and that's that's Miller and
7:39
morris and those two are going at it. And so when the packs are
7:42
too, yeah, well the packs those campaigns have the most resources by far.
7:46
I think I think more capital is kind of sitting in a position where
7:49
obviously, you know, long time, you know his his family has been
7:53
involved in politics for a long time. There's a certain amount of people just
7:55
know him. He sort of covers that niche of the party where these are
8:00
kind of fighting all over the hardcore conservative votes and he's sort of over here,
8:03
you know, kind of on the more moderate side getting his votes.
8:07
And then you know, I'll say with Mac Warner. You know, I
8:11
ran David McKinley's congressional race all the way back in like twenty ten, and
8:15
that also was like a there were like five people in the race, but
8:18
it was really similar. You had McKinley and that ceremony are going after each
8:22
other, and Mack was just kind of sitting there like floating off in the
8:26
middle while those two backed up each other and was kind of coming up the
8:28
middle. And so I think that's sort of where Moore is. I think
8:33
that's sort of where Mac is. So we'll just see. I mean,
8:35
you know, I will say, I look, you know, Chris Miller's
8:39
ads have been really, really, really good, and I think that's what's
8:43
gotten him close. I think his his energy level is very high, you
8:46
know. But look, there's there's a lot of people that like all four
8:48
of these guys. Yeah, you're right. Yesterday, Greg the presumptive Democratic
8:54
nominee for governor Huntings and mayor Steve Williams, said in a statement he's actually
8:58
on hoppy yesterday he wants the governor to place a constitutional amendment guaranteeing access to
9:03
abortion and reproductive health care on the agenda for an upcoming special session. The
9:11
statement was by Mayor Williams. He said, and you know, from a
9:15
pr standpoint, this was actually pretty good on his part. He said,
9:18
his words, I'm calling on Governor Justice to follow former President Trump's lead by
9:24
putting a constitutional amendment about abortion on the call for the special session. In
9:28
quote. Now, the former President Trump, of course, is angering a
9:33
lot of Republicans at this point by saying that he would not sign a federal
9:39
a federal abortion band if he were to be elected this year. He says
9:41
it should be left to the states. Williams puts out this statement that says
9:46
he wants it on the call for the special session. Your thoughts, Well,
9:48
I mean, I think when you leave it up to the states,
9:50
it doesn't mean you leave it up to like a popular vote, right,
9:52
I mean you leave it up to the sure that is the governing body.
9:56
So yes, I don't I think that's a misrepresentation of what Trump said.
10:00
Look, I think, you know, Williams, is you know, taking
10:03
advantage of an issue that was in the news because of something Trump said.
10:07
You know, essentially, up to this point, nobody you know. I
10:09
mean honestly, I hadn't heard of anything about Steve Williams in like two months
10:11
until you brought that up. So, I mean, he just kind of
10:13
he didn't have to do a whole lot. It doesn't have to and you
10:16
know, so I think it's just something you know, you look at it
10:18
and say, hey, you know, what can I say here? Uh,
10:20
that does two things for him, right, I mean, it kind
10:22
of fires up his base a little bit. You know, they're obviously the
10:28
you know, the Democratic Party, you know, wholeheartedly want to say wholeheartedly,
10:31
but the majority of the Democrats support abortion, and then I think,
10:35
you know, it just kind of gets them in the news a little bit.
10:37
I mean, obviously that's not something that's going to get done. I
10:41
think the legislature did exactly if you if you were to take a poll when
10:45
West Virginians say where are you on the abortion issue? That's where the legislature
10:50
put their legislation. Right, the majority of West Virginians won a ban on
10:54
abortion with those exceptions, right, rape, incests, life and the mother,
10:56
all that stuff. And that's where you know, if you take up
11:00
and I know that because I've seen those balls, you know, so I
11:03
know that's what it would say. That's where the legislature landed. You know,
11:07
I would be hard pressed to think that we move from that position anytime
11:11
in the next decade or two. Leads story this morning, Greg wv Metronews
11:16
dot com. The governor going at it again with legislative leadership. The governor
11:18
yesterday said more could be done to help storm victims from last Tuesday storms.
11:24
Had the legislature agreed with a fifty million dollar allocation that was in his proposed
11:30
budget, Now send a finances chair. Tar responded by saying, quote Governor
11:33
Justice is either dumb or plane dumb end quote Tar also along with House Speaker
11:39
Hanshaw, who Roger Hanshaw issued to State Me yesterday too, saying pretty much,
11:43
the governor can already do what he wants to do with his contingency fund
11:48
and he doesn't need to help with the legislature. I didn't see that one,
11:54
So I mean, I think this is you know, look, you're
11:58
always going to have this sort of tension between you know, what the governor
12:01
can do. Look, I'm sure if those guys said it. I'm sure
12:03
the governor can do that stuff. And I'm sure if the governor said it,
12:07
he wishes the blood the legislators had given him more control. You know,
12:11
everybody wants to have more control and more power and more flexibility with how
12:13
they can do stuff, and and and that's the tension you have. Even
12:16
even with an overwhelmingly majority you know, republican state like we have, you're
12:22
still going to have those you know, policy differences among them. So I
12:26
you know, look, I don't know the specifics of this, uh,
12:28
but I'm sure you know, maybe just brought you know, bringing this to
12:31
the attention. Make sure that these storm victims get the things they need.
12:35
I'll tell you what. Man, you know, we had a little damage
12:37
at our home. I'm just minor, but we were doing some door to
12:41
door up in Saint Albans and the man of the more you got to the
12:43
top of the hill, especially like U's Road and stuff like that, it
12:46
was really bad. I mean there, like I knew there were trees down
12:50
and stuff. I mean there were people who slocked their homes. I mean,
12:52
it's just the trees were right down in the middle of it. It
12:54
was It was terrible. Man. I really really feel for those more effective
12:58
today. Yeah, that was something else. Look, you know, I'm
13:01
sure these guys will figure it out. Get these people help, because it
13:05
certainly was a tough situation. Let me get to this before we get to
13:09
the break, and I'm I'm gonna have you stick around after the break.
13:11
I don't know if you've been following this whole controversy around state senator and candidate
13:16
for AG Mike Stewart. The Mingo County Deputy Sheriff's Association issued a support letter
13:22
for Mike Stewart and his race against J. B. Mccusky for Attorney General.
13:24
The widow of Sergeant Corey Maynard in the State Place that's a trooper who
13:28
was killed in the line of duty last June, feels that Mike Stewart has
13:31
been using her husband's death for campaign purposes. The Deputy Sheriff's Association of Mingo
13:37
County, who put out that letter, later rescinded the letter. Now,
13:39
Stewart said, and he brought this up Monday night you're into debate with JB.
13:45
McCuskey that's held at West Virginia State. He said the letter was fake
13:48
to begin with, and that they only issued that in order to rescind it,
13:54
to make you look bad. That's what Stewart says. Stewart then goes
13:58
on the X the Hots formerly known as Twitter yesterday morning and alluded to the
14:01
fact that if he were elected, he would be closely looking at corruption in
14:07
Mingo County, saying something like well, I've got to start somewhere, which
14:09
drew the ire of a lot of people saying that Mike Stewart, if he
14:13
wins, is threatening to politicize the office. Look, anytime there are and
14:18
look, I'm involved in a lot of campaigns, a lot of judicial campaigns,
14:22
a lot of you know, campaigns around attorney general and things like that.
14:24
And I'm friends with jb and and Stuart and have been for a long
14:28
time. I would it's very dangerous to get to bring up specific cases in
14:35
these in these races, right, Like, you just don't know all the
14:39
details, you don't know how everybody's going to feel about it. What her
14:41
take is is that it could threaten there's the trial is in September. Yeah,
14:45
and she says that he's put out information out there that's not been made
14:48
public. Yeah, you've got to be really careful with that kind of stuff.
14:50
I mean, we do that with Attorney general's kind of issues all the
14:54
time. Heck, we have you know, we had a West Virginia Kala
14:56
radio ad talking about some of the you know kind of litigation and lawsuits and
15:01
stuff that Morrissey had filed. But it's really tough to get in unless something
15:05
is like done and you have a specific you know, product of a you
15:09
know, here's what happened in the case, here's a judge's order, here's
15:13
the final sort of you know, here's the final say. Unless you have
15:18
that, you got to be really careful about how you handle those situations.
15:20
And you know, I look, I don't you know, I like both
15:24
these guys. I don't like seeing the back and forth there. But you
15:28
know, my advice and sort of my perspective on that is, if something's
15:31
not all the way done, I just I just wouldn't mess with it.

18:17
is with it, Gregor. I want to talk about a group that you're
18:18
a part of, West Virginian Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse CALA. If you prefer
18:22
KALA. There was an article that came out earlier this week in the West
18:26
Virginia Record, And I'm just going to read from the article. It says,
18:30
quote, a conservative legal reform group is calling out the re election campaigns
18:36
of two longtime circuit judges for receiving a bulk of their contributions from personal injury
18:41
attorneys. One of those judges listed was Judge Ronald Wilson in the Northern Panhandle
18:45
and can As Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey. Now, as it pertains to Judge
18:48
Bailey, we'll focus locally here. The article, Greg talked about fundraisers held
18:53
by Judge Bailey and some TV ads run by According to the article, and
18:57
according to the press releases, uh, the ads are funded by a group
19:03
of liberals out of Texas. The group is taking issue with the amount of
19:08
money coming into both campaigns by personal injury attorneys. I guess the question,
19:15
Greg, is is this common for personal injury lawyers, many of whom advertise
19:22
on this station. So nothing against injury injury lawyers, is it? Is
19:26
it common for them to get this involved in judges races? Local? Right?
19:30
Yeah? I mean they they they are pretty big, you know,
19:32
the personal injury lawyers are pretty big donors to campaigns, uh, and have
19:37
been traditionally they're seeing a lot of that again this year. You know,
19:41
I do have to add the caveat here, like because you know, Jennifer
19:45
Bailey's opponent is I'm engaged to Ashley Deems. So I'm like, I was
19:49
gonna throw that out there. Yeah no, no, I'm so I'm not
19:52
like I'm not allowed, Like I'm not that I didn't have anything to do
19:55
with that. I can't have anything to do with their statements about her and
19:57
all that, and I you know, I can't kind of specifically to that
20:00
race. But look, you know, the personal injury lawyers have played a
20:06
big role. I mean they you know, you know, go all the
20:07
way back to two thousand and four. I mean they put in millions of
20:10
dollars for for warm or for Darren McGraw or no War McGraw, and so
20:15
it is something that they you know, that they put a lot of money
20:18
in. I don't, you know, we haven't. This is really the
20:22
first year you've had competitive circuit judge races, you know what I mean.
20:26
And so I think that's uh, you know, so I think that's sort
20:30
of a first. I Mean, they've traditionally given to those. I mean,
20:33
I don't think giving to those campaigns is out of the norm. Uh,
20:36
giving to this level is a new thing. And I think part of
20:40
this is because we don't you know, you don't have you know, you
20:42
have two state Supreme Court races. It don't even have any opponents, right,
20:45
I mean, you know, Charlie Trump and Haley bun don't even have
20:48
opponents, right, So that's you know, so you're seeing a lot of
20:51
attention on the circuit court races, whether there's you know, uh, there's
20:53
you know, there's a big race up in Morgantown, there's one in Wheeling,
20:56
there's you know, a couple here locally. Uh, there's a big
21:00
one out in Grant County with my brother, my buddy, Judge Robert Ryan.
21:06
You know, so you have some across the state. So I think
21:07
it's you know that that's a new thing, you know that we're seeing.
21:11
And another new thing too is the you know, the you know, these
21:15
races are non partisan, but the West Virginia Republican Party had come out and
21:22
made endorsements recently too. Yeah. Yeah, Actually I was taking a look
21:26
at at some of those that they they have issued the Republican Party, the
21:30
non part This is available on their website by the way I'm looking at it
21:33
now. It's a non partisan judicial candidate information and it is a list of
21:37
those from around the state for Supreme Court Circuit judges on down that that they
21:42
are I guess endorsing. Uh yeah, I think they they they did.
21:47
They put together like a sub committee that sort of looked at these, you
21:51
know, non partisan races, you know locally. You know, you had
21:55
judges like Judge Dyer and Judge Ashley up in that Jackson Roan that got in
22:00
orsements. John Hoover out in Putnam County got the Republican Party endorsement. Uh
22:04
here in Kanall County. Uh, you know, some of these don't even
22:07
have opponents, but you had you know, Stephanie Abraham, Mary Claire Acres,
22:12
uh you know, uh, Dave Hardy got endorsements. And then a
22:17
couple of the contested races here Ashley Dean got the Republican Party endorsement. Eric
22:22
Cantrell got the Republican Party endorsement. So, you know, so you got
22:25
some first here of you know, of the you know, and I think
22:29
it really is just you know, you used to have a lot of activity
22:32
at the Supreme Court level, and now that you don't have that, you've
22:34
got a lot of activity at the at the at the circuit court level.
22:40
And then we have a competitive intermediate court race here. That's the first time
22:42
that you know, this is you know, that's a newly created court.
22:45
It's the first time we've ever had that. You've got three people in that
22:48
one. Former State Republican Party chair Elgen mccardal is running. Unsurprisingly, she
22:55
got the State Republican Party endorsement. Ryan White, who's a local attorney for
23:00
Board of Education member here in Kanawah County, is running a big campaign and
23:03
has got a lot of resources. And then and then I think there's that
23:08
Michael Schultz from Charleston is running as well, and I don't know much as
23:11
much about him. He's been on the show in the past. He was
23:15
on the show a couple of months ago. But here's the thing I think
23:17
I find very interesting, Greg, And this is just kind of where we
23:19
are right now. I have one of the biggest races in Kanawh County is
23:22
going to be for magistrate and there's like, oh my gosh, there's eight
23:27
people. I was going to bring that up, man. I mean,
23:30
you know, you go, we go to a lot of these county level
23:32
events. Man, there are just so many of them. It's not something
23:36
I ever really paid attention to, to be honest. And now that i'm
23:38
you know, we're doing a lot of this county stuff, you see it.
23:41
But there really are so many of them. I mean, my phone
23:44
rings off the hook with people you know, want and I try to make
23:47
time available for them. But here's the thing about it. I always ask
23:51
if I have somebody that's running for judge, for magistrate whatever on the show,
23:56
I always have to ask them, what is your political part? It
24:00
shouldn't matter. But if I don't, I get texts from people saying,
24:06
why why didn't you ask them what their party you know, or whatever.
24:08
So these races and you'll say and neck. You can see it in and
24:11
Ashley's ads. It run out there, right, It's every time you mentioned,
24:14
hey, I'm a you know, I'm a Republican running in the non
24:17
partisan race for whatever, right, Like it's it's something that they that you
24:21
have to do. But I will tell you, if you're out there campaigning
24:25
and you you know, you don't lead with it right. It's like,
24:26
oh, I'm running for whatever judge or they're running for magistrate. They're you
24:30
know, they don't want to get into it. But the voters, just
24:33
like your callers, they want to know. It's the first thing they ask
24:37
Google Search to find it out. Anyway. Well, they say you're allowed
24:41
to say. You just have to say, hey, I'm a Republican,
24:44
Kan, I'm a Republican, but I'm a non partisan. Right, this
24:45
is I'm running in a non partisan race. And I think that's fine to
24:48
do. But it really is, you know, it really is what voters
24:53
want to know about. Yeah, all right, I me knock out some
24:56
text here for you, because you always get text. Uh Texas. Greg's
24:59
organizationation West Virginians Against a Lawsuit Abuse has been pulling that, putting out horrible
25:03
ads against Morrissey. How can you be objective when you obviously are against Patrick
25:10
Morrissey. Why are you doing that? Great? Remember, I don't think
25:12
you asked were asked to be a objective. Why would anybody think I would
25:17
be? I mean, I ask you one point on this show. So
25:19
when somebody, I think the last time you're on, somebody said, who
25:22
is Greg supporting for governor. And you said, anybody but Patrick Morrissey.
25:26
That's what you said. You don't have to be objective. It's a weird
25:29
thing. You know. I'm not. You know, I am a political
25:32
consultant. I do this for a living. I lobby, I have government
25:33
relations firm, I do business consulting. But it's not I'm not getting paid
25:41
by eddy of the gubernatorial caid. I mean, look, I think,
25:44
I mean, look, I think the caller. I would have a point
25:47
if, like I were getting paid by a certain campaign, right, if
25:49
I were getting paid by a campaign just like just look, I just talked
25:52
about court races, but said, hey, I can't specifically get into details
25:56
of this because of my relationship with Ashley, Right, So I would have
26:00
to do that. If I had a profet. That's a personal relationship.
26:03
If I had a professional relationship, I would offer that up as well.
26:07
I don't have one in that race. I do feel like I can be
26:10
as objective as I can be as a voter, right, I mean,
26:12
I'm still you know, despite the fact that I'm a political consultant, I
26:17
still have like rights, right, I still have the First Amendment still applies.
26:22
You're actually a human being. Yeah, yeah, I questionable at times,
26:25
but you're actually a human being. Yeah, Tex says the judicial hellhole
26:29
reputation of West Virginia is a lobby effort from wealthy business owners trying to jam
26:33
the people's access to the court protecting businesses. Why not highlight that people being
26:38
able to access the legal system. It's not a bad thing, despite what
26:41
a well funded lobby tells you. Try some skepticism, Dave. If if
26:47
the business okay, let's say let's say that that's let's just take that at
26:49
Let's just say that's true. Let's just let's go let's give this person.
26:52
It's not entirely true, but let's say that's let's just say that's true.
26:56
If the business community comes out and says, this jurisdiction has really unfair courts
27:00
and we don't want to be there, should that matter? Should that matter?
27:04
Right? Like, if you're if you're somebody that's looking for a job,
27:07
if you're somebody that's trying to grow the economy, if you're somebody that's
27:10
doing that, and you've got a national business organization or a national legal reform
27:14
organization that has business members and healthcare provider members, and these are people that
27:18
create jobs and take care of folks and do all that stuff. And they
27:22
say, your court systems really really unfair. Should that matter? And the
27:26
reality is it should very much matter. And one of the reasons that West
27:30
Virginia was in fiftieth for so long was because we had a terrible, broken
27:34
legal system. We had some of the highest taxes in the country, you
27:40
know, with the respect to the you know, the the labor union bosses
27:42
had total control of whatever they wanted, and we were dead last forever because
27:48
of those greedy, power hungry people. That's a reality, buddy, that's
27:52
a reality. And there's no PR. You don't need to you're the ones
27:56
that liberals are the ones that need a PR campaign to try to say that
27:59
was in our fault. All the people that have dried, died of drug
28:03
overdoses and everything that's happened in Kanawa County because we've had a terrible economy and
28:07
all the things they've done to it. They're the ones that need a PR
28:10
campaign to cover up the damage that they've done to our families. Tex says
28:15
greg Republicans and conservatives think life begins a conception. How come we don't hear
28:19
them pushing for changing the tax code to include the children in the womb as
28:22
dependents. Also shouldn't guaranteed prenatal care be offered if the government is forcing women
28:29
to give birth. I don't know about I mean, I don't have any
28:36
idea about why the tax thing would. I don't know. I don't know
28:38
the details of the tax thing. I'm assuming this is a Democrat that's called
28:45
in to try to lap in me on. I just don't know. I
28:48
mean, I I don't know the answer to either of those. Tex says
28:52
Chris Miller is the man born on third who thinks he hit a triple Look.
28:56
I mean, I don't think. I don't think Chris would deny that
29:02
he was given an opportunity that most people haven't been given. But I also
29:07
think that would be a gross overstatement to say that he hasn't done a lot
29:12
with that business and tremendously grown that business and as a successful business guy.
29:17
You know, I know Chris really well, and I don't I don't think
29:19
there's any time he'd be like, oh, you know, I you know,
29:23
I was born in a ditch and look at me, now, you
29:26
know what I mean? Well, he does kind of pain himself as an
29:29
outsider. I mean, that's kind of what he says, I'm an out
29:30
and yeah, he's never he may have been even may have never run for
29:33
office. But let's face it, among these four people that are the Republican
29:37
none of them are outsiders. It must be really honest. And it's like
29:40
Trump saying he was an outsider. Trump was not an outsider, and he's
29:44
stretched to the imagination. He may have never run for office, but he's
29:45
been around politics his entire life. He was Trump was never an outsider.
29:49
Where is Chris Miller nor the other three? That's not a knock against him.
29:53
Knowing me, I think, but look, I think it's just I
29:56
haven't run for office again, right, I mean, I think there are
29:59
people that look at it and say, hey, I want somebody in there
30:00
that hasn't been in there, right right, you know what I mean?
30:03
So I think you generously, you use a generous interpretation of the word outsider.
30:07
All right, me knock out a few more than before we let you
30:10
go. Texas. Trump is saying things to get elected. His only solid
30:14
position is not having a solid position and saying things are immediately beneficial to his
30:21
goals. Tex says, if Steve Williams is listening, Steve, if Republicans
30:25
are going to use the government to force birth's campaign on getting phoenises the same
30:27
tax status as children and guaranteed prenatal care, even more, guaranteed health care
30:33
for children of all economic statuses until they're eighteen. If Republicans are pro life
30:37
and pro children, make them reflect it in their policies. I think there
30:44
are definitely things that I think if the party is going to do that,
30:48
there are things that we can do to improve on that. I mean,
30:52
I know what, I know what they're getting at, and I know they
30:55
were, you know, kind of trying to trip me up with that earlier
30:56
question that I just couldn't answer, But I don't. Here's what I'll say.
31:00
I don't totally disagree with the point they're making, though I really don't.
31:04
I mean, I do think there are things. I think there's solutions.
31:07
Though always are like, well, you're going to make us have these
31:10
kids, give us a bunch of money, right, And it's like,
31:12
I'm not a socialist, right, I don't think that's the answer. But
31:15
I also I do think we have to do things to help those people and
31:19
help those women and help those young families, right, Like, there's a
31:22
middle ground of oh, hey, uh, I'm going to be pro life,
31:29
but I'm so libertarian I don't want to help anybody, and well I'm
31:32
not pro life, but if you're going to force you know, if you're
31:33
going to force these young women to have the children, then you need to
31:37
do everything for them. There's a middle ground there, man, and I'm
31:41
in that middle ground. Most people would agree, and I'm in that middle
31:44
ground. So I you know, so I know they're they're trying to kind
31:45
of get me with a couple of specific questions and that I'll say, this
31:48
just isn't an issue. I you know, this is an issue I do.
31:52
I follow politics, so I'm aware of some of it. So you
31:55
know, honestly, to the callers that are trying to trip me up on
31:56
it, I don't I'm not with you, but I'm also not against you.
32:01
Like I think that there's something And what I would say to those callers
32:06
is, you know, look, these are some of the issues that I
32:07
would bring up to Republicans and kind of instead of like tripping them up and
32:10
like pinning them to the wall on it, I would say, hey,
32:14
you know cause you know, if you just say, well, you need
32:15
to do everything for him, I'm immediately going to go I'm not going to
32:17
do everything for anybody. But what are some of the things you know?
32:21
Why don't you off? You know? I think this is a situation where
32:22
some of the Democrats could offer up some positive changes that we could work on
32:30
together to do that, and I encourage those those those ideas. Good way
32:34

Saturday afternoon at four points by Shared and sponsored by the WVU Alumni Chapter of

36:57
Eric, good morning, welcome to the show. Hey Dave, how are
37:00
you great to be on this always? Thanks for being here. So what
37:02
you got going on on Saturday? Dude? So this Saturday, we're happy
37:07
enough to be teaming with the wv men's soccer program and head coach Dan Stratford.
37:14
Dan if the name simps familiar was the hand coach at you see in
37:19
twenty seventeen. In twenty nineteen when they won the national title. So and
37:25
last year WD men's soccer went to the final four well at Schoenbaum Field that
37:31
Coonskin Sunday you see and West Virginia men Fucker are having sort of like a
37:38
celebratory but competitive ex edition eleven AM. It's part of that Saturday four to
37:47
six DM. We're sort of having a welcome home sort of celebration with the
37:53
entire WD men's soccer team. Will have players three for autographs, pictures,
38:00
raffles. It's sort of a borders and then we will have a cash bar,
38:07
but it's open to all ages, free for admission. It's sort of
38:10
a state in the program. L Dans sort of addressed a lot of the
38:15
people that have helped them get to this point from Charleston and a lot of
38:20
the Mountaineer faith for or friends of the program. Even if you're a Marshall
38:23
fan or a EC fan, you're welcome to come because this is more of
38:29
a celebration though, but you see soccer at sun Raft to stay through the
38:35
you meant soccer team is Dan? Right? Yeah? Really cool time and
38:39
Eric out and again this has happened at four points by Sheridan on Saturday afternoon
38:43
and it's free to the public, open to all ages. Uh and space
38:46
is limited. We're going to give you information on how to get in on
38:49
this coming up little bit later on. But you know, Eric, I
38:52
will have to admit it. I am not the biggest soccer fan in the
38:53
world, but soccer is really exploding in popularity. I guess the US is
38:59
an maybe West Virginia's catching up with the rest of the world, particularly here
39:02
in the Mountain state. And you mentioned the success of not only the WVU
39:07
soccer program but University of Charleston, my alma mater, Marshall. I mean
39:12
it's it's it's a huge, huge event here in West Virginia now and a
39:15
huge, huge, sport. Yeah, it is, and you know,
39:19
I think it's really sort of goes back and I know I'm at WPU guy,
39:23
but I grew up in Charleston first and I've seen it that you see
39:27
program really uh, it's leadership and the coaches that have developed through that program,
39:35
you know, and we have a national champion of Marshall WV you got
39:37
to the final four last year and the UC is continuing to do great things
39:43
and it's really an incredible story of you know, what consistency and development of
39:50
one community around one program can do throughout a state of number team players get
39:54
drafted from WVU into MLS. They had three first rounders, which was the
40:00
most last year. And then also, you know, and when you think
40:05
about it, you care about it, nil and donations and things, and
40:09
well, that's so much they're going to be talking about Saturday. Your investment
40:14
and your time into something like a soccer program can go a lot further than
40:20
maybe football or basketball. So and they will have an opportunity to speak on
40:23
that and where the program's going. But it's a really exciting team for this
40:29
program and them and Marshall are in the same conference. Yeah, yeah,

40:52
What do they need to do to kind of make sure they have a place
40:55
there Saturday? Yeah, what you handle that? I think the way to
40:59
do you can get to our Facebook page which is WV or Alumni a greater

42:00
so that'll be for a big factor a bl event. And then our friends

42:10

For years, West Virginia had the most unfair legal system in the nation.
45:04
Our state was on the Judicial Hellhole list thirteen times in a row.
45:07
And even though our legislature has made major improvements in legal reform, Attorney General
45:12
Patrick Morrissey risks all of our progress. Patrick Morrissey has teamed up with greedy
45:16
personal injury lawyers to sue local job providers. These lawsuits hurt jobs, increased
45:22
consumer costs, and even threatened broadband expansion. In one recent case, personal

injury law firms were paid one hundred and fifty one million dollars. Our state

46:23
seconds when we saw an outbreak of severe storms and tornadoes here in the Kanal
46:28
Valley. They keep adding to that to the number because of the research and
46:31
whatever we said, Uh, something that really hadn't seen before once in a
46:36
lifetime event well apparently could be happening again today. Meteor Olives is Brian Hughes
46:39
from Storm Tracker thirteen. Brian, does it feel like you're back in Texas
46:43
or back in the Midwest again? Dude? I listen, I thought,
46:47
Wow, this is really like me living my glory days back in Texas for
46:52
sure, because you don't have back to back week events with severe weather around
46:58
here. But here we go. It's a we're just going to do it
47:00
again, all right. So I know the weather is a moving target constantly,
47:06
and you and Spencer and Chris and of folks do a great job,
47:07
but as bad, worse or better than last week. Listen, we know
47:14
we're gonna have the individual thunderstorms developed this afternoon and then some of those week
47:19
clusters, and then some of that develops into a line. We don't believe
47:22
we're going to have anything like what we had in last week, but we
47:28
still are going to have some a few tornadoes in the region when GUS will
47:32
be an excess of you know, fifty miles per hour in some cases,
47:37
and we could have a line developed that might have a few more embedded small
47:42
tornadoes in it, similar to last week. But we don't expect an event
47:45
like last week where we've had fifteen confirmed tornadoes across you know, Nashvillether's services,
47:50
Charleston's area. But yet at the same time, you know, we
47:54
still there's still more to count from that event. So we I said last
47:59
week, I said, I promise will be up over fifteen. We are
48:01
at this point. So you know, today is just going to be is
48:05
going to be active, and it's really gonna start to get this actor act
48:07
together somewhere around two to three o'clock this afternoon, all right, And that's
48:10
what everybody wants to know. People. Somebody once told me when in broadcasting
48:15
school and college, they said, people don't want to know whether it's going
48:17
to rain. They want to know whether it's going to rain on them.
48:21
Uh, that's all they really care about, is what this is. And
48:22
I'm guilty as anybody else. So you're looking at primarily after two o'clock and
48:27
the end time should be nine o'clock or so, is that what you said?
48:30
I you know, it could be as late as nine. But if
48:32
things are shaping up the way some of the latest forecast model runs are happening,
48:36
a lot of this could be wrapped up somewhere around seven, between seven
48:39
and eight. But I think the sweet spot for us in the Canal Valley
48:44
is going to be somewhere between four and six. You know that that'll be
48:49
the sweet spot. But you know we're going to watch those things developing,
48:52
especially we see the forecast models are really locked onto thunderstorm's trying to develop around
48:57
Pike Full, Kentucky, and anything that develops in is gonna move northeast essentially
49:00
just right at Court or g So you know, once the first one fires
49:06
off, you know, we may be on the air for you know,
49:08
two three hours if not more, as we go into this afternoon, this
49:13
evening. With the long range forecast I saw for next week, it's looking
49:15
pretty darn good for next week. So we're just gonna kind of be focusing
49:20
that way, right, Yeah, exactly. Listen, next week's one of
49:22
those weeks where you're like I could sit down on a patio every single day
49:27
and be happy as a clam. And so yeah, next week we'll get
49:29
to eighty degree temperatures. But today all hazards are on the table, and
49:32
that does actually include today flash flooding possibility, but also you know tornadoes are
49:38
possible a line of storms. Yes they'll do damage, Yes we'll be power
49:43
out of just do we want it last week? No, But listen,
49:45
we just got to roll with the punches here, all right, Ryan.
49:47
I appreciate you being here, man, you and Spencer and the team.
49:50
I'll do a great job and hopefully we won't talk to you soon. How's
49:52
that? That sounds good? Tomorrow Tomorrow morning, you'll know how bad it
49:57
was. Whether I'm wearing my glasses or not. That's a that's a telltale
50:00
sign if you got the glasses on. It was a long night, all
50:04
right, Brian. I appreciate it, man, Thanks a lot. Sounds
50:07
good. All right again, it's Brian. Huseme storm track at thirteen.
