- 1:19SPEAKER_01: It's great to have you on today.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: I'm really excited about this episode because I know that you're going to be sharing a lot of good stuff.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: So, do you want to start by introducing yourself?
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: So, as you said, I'm a confidence coach.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: I specialise in helping shiny new entrepreneurs.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: So people either just starting with an entrepreneurial journey or people thinking about going on an entrepreneurial journey.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: I know that having done it myself, I know there is loads of fears, there's loads of overwhelm, intimidation that comes up when you start on this journey, especially if you've been in a corporate world, you've been salaried, etc.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: There's loads of stuff that comes up for you.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: So my job is to really help, especially new people, to really navigate that.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: So to kind of not so much, you know, the processes, the finance or anything like that, but really to help the thoughts, you know, to really help them kind of get that it's their thoughts that's going to create their fear.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: So help them get those in control.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: How can they deal with their fear?
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: How can they deal with the inner critic?
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: How can they deal with their limiting beliefs that they're holding?
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: And really try and get some techniques, some hints, and tips in place to really help them move past that because that takes so much energy.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: I mean, being an entrepreneur, as you know yourself, is exhausting, you know, it's challenging, it's wonderful, expansive, you know, it's it's brilliant, but there's also lots of negative stuff that can come with it, and that can really stop you in your track.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: So that's what really I'm about is to try and help these people get over these negative thoughts and really try and you know, then bloom into their business because the whole time they're having these fears, these doubts, these you know, these limiting gifts, the inner critic, all their energy is going on that rather than on their business, you know, creating something they love.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: So that's kind of where I'm at.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: I absolutely love that.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: It's a brilliant, brilliant part of my job.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: Really enjoy it's an honour to be part of that, actually.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: I find it fascinating actually because I think there's nothing like running a business to really open up those fears, and I think it's because something that you're doing most likely for the first time.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of learning on the job, a lot of figuring things out as you move along.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: And I think with that, there's that sense of fear because of the unknown, but also you're having to step into a role, and you're having to be a leader and become somebody that can make things happen.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: And I think because of that, with that it comes a lot of fear, it can bring anxiety, it can really you can find yourself very much in your own head, having to kind of work out all the time, and and of course, with that, you've got the sense of feeling like an imposter, especially if you are new into the world of business, or even when you're creating an online course, it can be a really scary place to be.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, and it's like the social media that's a whole new arena for so many people, you know.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: As you said, stepping into the light, blogging, posting, that might be something they've never done before.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: And it's not even just your fears and your limiting beliefs.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: You also, I certainly found this myself, I'm sure a lot of people have.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: You're not just dealing with your stuff.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: There's if your family, your friends, everyone you know is also in a corporate field, they're salaried, they may not understand what you're doing either, and they may try and put their own fears on you unintentionally, and you know, well meant they want you to, they want to try and keep you safe, but you've also got their fears and their worries and their concerns to contend with, and you have to kind of be really strong in what you want to do to kind of not get absorbed by that and kind of think, Oh, actually, do you know what?
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I can do this, you know, they don't think I can do this.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: I'm a bit worried myself, so it's trying to appreciate that is just their fear, that doesn't make it a reality, and the same with your own fear, you know, just because you feel something doesn't mean it's real, and and how do you get over that?
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, it's a massive, massive step.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: I think it's a real massive mindset change that you need to adopt, and then it can take a long while to get there, but it, as you said, it's so rewarding, it's such a fantastic thing to do and to be your own boss and have your own creative agenda, and and you know, the autonomy is just fantastic, really fantastic.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: But you know, there is obviously a payoff and it's working through that, isn't it?
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is, and what's interesting is so many people feel the same.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: This isn't new, it's just the fact that it doesn't often get spoken about.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: It's something that, like you say, it's always going to be there.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: So whether you're starting a business or you're at the growth stage of your business, or you're looking to scale your business, you're always moving into a new phase.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: And in order to grow, in order to move forward and to get you and your business where you want it to get to, you have to grow both personally as well as developing and growing the business as well.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: And I think because there's no rule book, there's no one size fits all.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: I think this is the thing, you know, it it's a bit like your thumbprint, your business is going to be unique to you, the way you approach your business is going to be unique to you.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: So, therefore, even though there's so much resource around which advises on different aspects of running a business or creating a course, or at the end of the day, the experience that you face is personal to you, and the business that you're creating is personal to you as well.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: So, with that comes a whole host of fear because there's not one size fits all.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: It's not like you get this blueprint and it's like follow this map and you'll get it to where it needs to be.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: It doesn't work like that.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of figuring it out, which can be really scary.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: I think when I first started, I always found it strange.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: As you said, there isn't a rule book, there's no guidelines for what specifically you have to do.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: And I think from coming from a very corporate background where you have specific training, you have to meet certain parameters, someone checks you to make sure that you're doing, you're following those parameters, you're getting it right, and then you move on.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: And and it's a very structured way of getting you to where you need to be.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: I kept thinking when I moved over, I kept thinking, I'm gonna get it wrong, and who's gonna come and tell me?
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: I kept thinking someone's gonna say, Oh no, okay, you haven't done that quite right, you should have done it like this, and and kind of always waiting for that higher power to come and say to me, Oh no, you you shouldn't have done it like that, you should have done it like this, and they don't, and I think it's nerve-wracking to start with, but then there's kind of that freedom as well, isn't it?
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: Actually, I'm doing this, so I'm the only one who can really judge if I get it right or not.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: Obviously, my clients as well, but you know, from a personal perspective, from the business side of it, I'm the only one who can decide that.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: And actually, I think once you're comfortable with that, I think that's a massive leap as well, isn't it?
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I find it really liberating.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: That's the bit that I really enjoy, actually.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: I like the fact that we get to be completely autonomous in terms of what we do, and we don't have that higher power on our shoulders telling us how to do it, what to do, you know, this is on us.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: And I think that is quite liberating because that's where you get to test the metal, and it's bringing your intentions out, isn't it?
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: And being in control of that.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: I know when I started my business, three things that were really important to me at the beginning was freedom, it was control, and it was independence.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: And they were the three things that I really valued and wanted to carve out with my business.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to, I'd spend you know, 16 years or so working in companies where I felt constantly put in a box, you know, this is your position, therefore you can only do this.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: So for me, that was the most liberating aspect of starting a business was the fact that I could determine my own fate with how I run my business.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: It's all it's all on me.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's scary because it's all on me, but at the same time, it's very liberating as well.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Because it's like, right, okay, let's see what I can do, let's see what I'm made of and whether I can I can get myself without somebody else, a higher power, making those decisions for me.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: But with that, then comes the fear, because then you think, oh my lord, it is all of me.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: So it's it's kind of like me kind of thing, yeah.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: But I don't think that ever really goes away.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: I just think as you move forward and as you grow, there are just new challenges, and with that, yeah, bring in new fears as well.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, isn't it?
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: And and it's so true that the mantra, the more you do it, the more you are comfortable with being uncomfortable.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: So I think the first leap is is deciding the being entrepreneur and realizing that it is all on you, the buck does stop with you.
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: And I think that takes quite a while to process because it is a change of mind.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: So but once you've got that, wow, you know, that's I think that's almost one of the biggest leaps you can make.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: And then once you've got that, actually, everything else you kind of you can more take into stride.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: I think that's probably the huge, certainly was for me anyway, the hugest leap that right, this is this is on me, the buck stops with me, I'm in control, I need to decide where I'm gonna take my business.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: And yeah, that was that was massive.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: But once I did that, actually everything else kind of falls into place.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: Like, right, okay, if that's the case, then what do I need to do next?
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: And it kind of leads you, it kind of guides you, then I think.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think once you recognize what your vision is, so if you're creating a business for a reason, there is a greater power there in terms of okay, this is what I want my life to be, and my business is going to be the vehicle that's ultimately going to get me there.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: So once you recognise what that vision is that you're wanting to bring to life, and you understand that there is limitless possibility available to you, as you just mentioned, what is it then that you need to put in place to bring that to life?
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: And I think once you get clear on what that looks like and you develop your plan, so to speak, then you can sort of put in place what needs to be put in place to help you get there.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: And I think approaching it in a way that has more structured thinking, so to speak.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: So rather than being like, okay, I'm creating a business because I want to make money, or I'm creating a course because I want money, what's that going to give you?
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: You know, that your desire is greater than money, you know, money.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's got to be.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's got to be.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: It has to be, it has to be.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: If you're running a business, then the chances are that there's something bigger at play.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: You're wanting to make a real difference in some way because you're choosing this way of doing it.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: If you just wanted to make money, you could just stay employed because then you you both aren't gonna have guaranteed money.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: But actually, choosing to run a business or create an online course, it's because you're wanting something else.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: So, what is that thing that you're then wanting, and how is that going to influence your life and how is it going to get you to where you want to get to?
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: And I think when you start to think of things like that, it almost easier to get uncomfortable with being uncomfortable because you know that for a reason, you know that there's a high play there.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it's it's so true, is it?
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: It's knowing your why.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: Why are you doing something?
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: And being an entrepreneur and even doing an online course, I think it's tough.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: You know, ease tough, it's brilliant, and the outcome is brilliant.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: But there are so many, certainly for me, there were so many bits where had I not been very clear on my why why I was doing it, I would have struggled.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: I love the process, I absolutely love the process, and but even with that, there was times you think, oh my goodness, I've got to do this next, I've got to do this, and your course is very good, and you know, you lead you through it, you you do homework each week, so you've got right, this is what you focus on this week because it's very easy to get overwhelmed, isn't it?
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: With such a you've never done one before, very easy to get overwhelmed, but where you the way you lead you through the process is brilliant.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: So this week we're just focusing on this today.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: So if anything else, just focus on this, right?
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: Next week we're gonna look at this, okay?
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: Do this, get that done.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: And the homework was great because okay, I'm moving forward, I'm moving forward, that's great, you know, little steps moving forward, but without having that that wife, which for me is definitely the I love the I loved a creative process, I absolutely loved it.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: And I've I think we've had lots of conversations before where you are naturally very creative, you know, you've got your brand, your strategy, your you know, your design, you're you're very creative, and I've never thought of myself as a creative person, and it wasn't really until I started you know doing your course.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: I thought, actually, I am creating, I'm creating content, I'm creating you know visuals for my for my videos.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: I am creating, I'm picking stuff out of my head and putting it out there to help people.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: So it was wonderful for me to feel that creative process and and be led through it actually, as well, to be led through it, but to to do that was wonderful.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: And then for me, the the why for me was if I can read something, which I love doing, as you know, massive, massive fan reading.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: If I can read something and it's like either from you know, psychology, NLP, it could be habit formation, quantum physics, law of attraction.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: If I can read something and then I can, you know, shift it about, adapt it, and put it into my course and know that that was you know, somebody, ah, I get it now.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: That's that's what I needed, that's the hook that I needed.
- 14:41SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness, that that just blows me away.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: So for me, it was the one to be creative, to create this course, to have it, but also hopefully at the end of it, thinking, oh, you know, someone's gonna do that and they're gonna think, ah, right, brilliant, I get it now.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: I can move on from this place I was at, I was stuck, and now I can take that, and I've got it for life, you know, I've got it for life, and that's the great thing about an online course, isn't it?
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: They've got it, they have it for the whole you know, duration of the course, the entirety of the course.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: You think brilliant, they can always refer back to that.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: It's it's having that, I don't know what's the word, it's the I suppose it's accessible, it's a resource, isn't it?
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: So yeah, for me it was it was a no-brainer actually to get an online course, it was a massive part of my my plan for my business.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think you sort of said it, it can be very overwhelming, especially if you're attempting this for the first time.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: And I know way back when, when I first did my branding course, I spent a lot of time in my head.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: And I probably spent more time in my head at the beginning thinking about how to approach it than actually putting pen to paper and actually getting on with it.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: And so the programme that I created was really off the back of, oh, okay, this is what I would have liked.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: I would have liked somebody to held my hand to show me what I need to do so I could just focus on that rather than spending so much time thinking about it, not actually getting stuff done because I'm getting in my own way and I'm sabotaging my own success because I'm not I'm not actually doing what I need to do to make it happen.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: And I think that's a really important aspect of it.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: It's feeling supported to the point that you think, yeah, I've got this, I can do this, and I'm I'm I'm being guided, but the support is there as and when I need it, and I think that's really important, especially if it is your first time.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Exactly, and you you'll focus on, I think you say at the very start, don't you?
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: Just do five modules, don't do any more than that because it's so easy to throw everything through the sink at it.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: Think, oh, I need to turn this, I need to turn this, but just do five modules, focus on five because really this is your first course, it's it's all about the experience, isn't it?
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Once you've done it, you know you're gonna have a great product at the end.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: But once you've done it, it's the learning, it's kind of getting over the learning, the overwhelm.
- 16:52SPEAKER_02: Because you know, filming, filming was completely new to me.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: I've never done filming before.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: That was a new thing I had to, you know, learn.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: Then there was the editing, and then there was the bringing it all together and the visuals and and everything, and then building it.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: You know, I built it in in Kajabi.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: There was the building of it, and and then there's the marketing and the sales and and the email sequencing, all the stuff I hadn't even thought of.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: You know, for me, it was oh, I sit down and write course, brilliant, that's easy.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: I love doing that, that's that's exciting.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: But it's all the other bits as well, so it's kind of like leading you through it.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: So it's okay, this is what we're going to focus on this week.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: This is this is how you do it, this is the best way of doing it.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Here's some options for you if you want to, you know, look at other ways of doing it.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: But this is the option I would recommend.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: And and having that support, as you said, and you did the buddy system as well, which is very nice.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: So you can and every week obviously you speak to other people that are going at the same pace as you, and that's really comforting because you always think, Oh, I'm I'm a behind or I'm not doing as well, and you speak to someone else and say, Actually, that bit I was all right with, I struggled with this.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: Have you got any advice, any hints and tips?
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: And and that was really nice to be on the journey with other people as well.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: That was really useful.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think the thing about being an entrepreneur is that it can be really lonely and isolating.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Because if you are on your own and you are running your business and you're spending a lot of time at your desk, you can get in your own way because you have limited perspective, because it's only your perspective, and those things, those questions that you you need answers to, who who do you then go and ask?
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: How do you then find the answers?
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: And so the idea of the buddy scheme was uh was purely based around the fact that we, even though we are doing our own things, we are stronger together, and when we come together and we support each other and we champion each other, great things happen.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: And I think when you're when you're all starting out, you're all feeling those feelings of oh my god, you know, is this really gonna work for me?
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: Am I gonna enjoy this?
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Am I gonna get sales?
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Will somebody want to so you're you're asking those questions, but you're all asking them, and so being able to bring people together and you know having that support in place, I think is really important.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: And again, going back, I think looking back, that would have been something that in my own experience at the beginning, that would have been an awesome thing to have had because I had so many questions, I spent a great deal of my time having to figure things out, and it was great because that's what forced me to learn and grow and develop and build and and get everything out there.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: But but at the same time, I think if we can support each other, then there's power in that, and we should support each other, yeah, absolutely, and and stop the overwhelm, just step by step, you really got that that process licked step by step.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: This is what you're gonna do, this is how you're gonna do it, you know.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: And and it's great, it's it's it's strange because it's a structure, but it's a freeing structure, isn't it?
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Because then you're free, okay.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: This is what I need to do for this bit.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: I can go away, create my course, and this is how I'm gonna do it.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: So you're not constrained in what you do, just this is how you do it.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: It's a lovely framework to to reference and and to use to stop that overwhelm and to keep you moving forward.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: That's the thing, is it?
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: That's the thing with getting stuck and fear.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: You get stuck and you're like a rabbit caught in the headlights, you don't know where to go.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: Okay, what can I do?
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: If I'm absolutely caught in the headlights here, I'm I'm stuck on this bit, that's fine.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: I can do this bit today, I can move forward on this bit.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: And just moving, you move in one aspect of your life, you tend to find that movement follows in the rest of your life.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: And so you're confidence, you feel confident in one area, you feel you know, it extends to the other parts of your life, it transcends.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: So just having that that process, that framework is is so useful, so useful.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: And like you say, there's always something to be done.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: So if one thing is proving to be challenging, being able to kind of sidestep and be like, okay, I'm going to focus on this today because this is going to move the needle, and then I'll come back to that.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: When you've got a fresher mindset, yeah, yeah.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Sometimes it does come down to sort of frame of mind.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: I know there are certain days I do not want to be recording video because there are certain days where I just wake up and I'm not in that headspace, and it's recognising that and being okay with that, but then obviously there are some days where I I want to do more design-led work.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: There are days where I want to be a bit more technical because I'm feeling I'm I'm just feeling in that in that frame of mind to to focus in on that.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: So also understanding you and being kind to yourself as well.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: And know knowing that as you move through something where you're learning something for the first time, you're not going to be a master at it at the beginning.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: You have to keep at it, but also be kind to yourself in a sense of that's okay if I don't fancy doing a video today, because maybe you know, maybe I had a rough night's sleep, or maybe I just I've woken up and I just don't feel 100%.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna do video today.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: I'll do I'll do that tomorrow.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: But today I can I can maybe have a look at my script, or I could start maybe.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Getting a bit creative around my slides, or I can do something that's gonna feel more fun as opposed to something that I'm gonna have to really work at to get it out there.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: And I I think a key thing for me was seeing value in my mistakes, and and the big thing for me, I think I said it to you, I filmed five videos, never done filming before, you know, took a long time to do to get used to the teleprompt and the green screen and everything.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: And I filmed it, and I don't know how I managed to do it, but on my jacket, when I did all the editing in a little screen, and I thought, right, I better just you know do the big screen, make sure that's okay.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: And when I did the big screen, after spending hours and hours and hours, you know, filming it and you know, editing it, which I hadn't done before, took me ages.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: I noticed I had this massive white spot on my jacket, and I thought, oh, it was heartbreaking.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: And of out of four of the five videos, I had this huge white spot.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: And I thought it doesn't matter what I say, you know, on my video, all people are gonna see is there's a white spot in a jacket.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: Does she know she's got a white spot in a jacket?
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: I thought, oh no, and I had to film it all again, and it was hot, it was absolutely heartbreaking, and all that editing time I spent.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: But that said, when I came to do the filming next time, and every time I film from now on, I will just do so many checks of like, is the camera in the right place?
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: Is the teleprompter, is the font the right size for me?
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: How am I standing?
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: Is there anything on my top?
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: Is my necklace straight?
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: Is there anything in my teeth?
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: So it was really realizing yes, that was a massive pain in the back side, to be honest, but there is still value in that.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm never gonna make that mistake again.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna be so careful from now on, and you know, actually, I can laugh about it.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: I think great, you know, going forward, that is gonna save me so much time.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: So I really think there is a in all of our mistakes, there is there is value there, isn't it?
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: There's something that we can learn from that and and move forward, and you know, it could save us even more time in the future.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: So great, you know, it's as you said, be kind to yourself and appreciate that this has happened now.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: How can I see value of this in the future?
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: I'm never gonna make this mistake again.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Great, you know, like the whole I love the quote from Edison, you know, he found 10,000 ways not to make a light bulb.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Well, I found you know, five ways not to film a video.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: So I'm never gonna do that again.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: So brilliant, you know, fantastic.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: It's I did it, I did it again, and actually, I was much more, I was very pleased with the results afterwards.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: So actually, you know, it's it was a massive learning curve for me, but a great one, you know, and I I absolutely laugh about it now.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I think mistakes are well, they're not mistakes, they're lessons, aren't they?
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: And I think they're just as important as it needs to go right because we learn by those.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: So, like you say, when you sit down to record going forward, you're gonna be so on top of looking at what needs to be done that you're not gonna make that those mistakes again because because you've made them, you've learned, and that's gonna now move you forward.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: So every time you record a video, it's gonna be done in a way that you know it's gonna take less time, but you know what to account for, and so that learning I think becomes really valuable as part of that process.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: I remember when I recorded a couple of videos in my branding course and I wear necklaces, but one of the things about necklaces is the clasp can often move round, and it doesn't, you know, when you've got a really lovely pendant and and you want it all looking nice, having having that clasp, you know, that's six or three-quarters of the way up doesn't particularly look very comfortable.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I remember sort of thinking, why didn't I why didn't I just check that?
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: Why didn't I just you know illustrating my my top up, you know, yeah, sort my my necklace out, get that.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: And and although to other people, it really doesn't matter, like they're not they're listening to the value, they're not listening, they're not probably looking thinking, oh she didn't sort her necklace out.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: For me, it was a detail that was important.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: It's a big thing.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: So now every time I sit down, I record a video, and if I'm wearing a necklace, of course I'm gonna just make sure that everything's all where it needs to be.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: That's it, it saves a lot of marty.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: Yes, the bigger the lesson, the the the more you the more value yeah, exactly.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: So I I know that pain that you went through because most other people, it is how you learn.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it so is so true.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: So, was there anything that you found particularly challenging about creating your online course?
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: Yes, definitely.
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: I think I love the actual creation process, that was brilliant, really enjoyed that.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: I think the most difficult thing for me would have been learning the new technology.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: So learning about videos, learning about, and I got I did a course on that actually to really help.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: So learning about videos, green screen, editing, and also Kajabi, you know, learning how to use kajabi and sales.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: I suppose in each bit there was a learning curve for me.
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: So for more than anything, it was it was learning the new technology.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: But what was lovely, and what I kept thinking is that great, you know, once I've done this, I know this.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: This is something I know, and then next time I do a course, this is already done for me.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: And I love learning anyway, I'm a massive band of learning.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: So it's easier, I think, to think, oh no, no, you know, I can't do this, I can't do this.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: Actually, of course I can do it.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: You know, you learn to read, you learn to you're learning all the time.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: I think it's just that sense of overwhelm.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: But taking a step back and thinking, what do I need to do?
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: Okay, I need to learn this.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: How's the best way of doing this?
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: Right, okay, that's what I'll do.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: You know, where do I go for resources?
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: What information do I need?
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: And obviously, most of it was on your on your passion to launch resource stuff.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, that was that was the biggest challenge, I think, for me was the technology.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: But actually, the more I did it, the more I I enjoy doing it, actually.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: It's interesting because technology is, I think, one of the biggest fears that most people, most course creators, fear when they're creating their online course for the first time because I think there's that unknown about what's involved, and of course, with creating an online course, tech is there, you know, there is tech that you need to use in order to create it and to get it out in the world.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: But actually, once you are kind of the other uh side of it, you realize that it's all manageable, it's all easy to learn, and actually, there's not a huge amount of tech.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: There's not a huge amount.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, you've spoken about Kunjabi.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: For those that may not know what Kunjabi is, Kunjabi is an online hosting platform, so it's course creators use Kunjabi to build their course on it.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: So, like your website's built most likely on a WordPress platform, your online course will be built on, say, a platform similar to like Kunjabi.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: There are a whole host of platforms out there.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: The choice is incredible, actually.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: But that is definitely something that I know many course creators fear because having not done it before, it's a bit like building a website.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: It instantly is this overwhelm of not knowing what's involved.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: But actually, when you get into the development stage of it, it's very user-friendly.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: And these platforms have been designed for people that have quite a lot of support.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: I've I found that anytime I've had a query, I email the Kajabi team and they come back, you know, within an hour and they give you screenshots.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: And if you still don't understand, you know, there's resources, and they'll still they'll come back again and again, and then if you don't respond to that, they'll say, just want to check in that you've you've got the answer, you're happy with that.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: So the support from them is really good.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: I think for me it was having a play.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: So I did something the other day, I was trying to do my sales page, which never done before, and I was trying to create it.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: And instead of doing sections, which I should have done, I did blocks, and I didn't realise that it's been ages doing it, and then to realise, and I didn't realise you could move them on the left-hand side, I didn't realise you can move them about, you know, so many things I didn't know, but now I'm like, ah, right, and I thought I had a certain problem, and I thought the problem's not on this one, but it's on this one.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: Why is that?
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: And I took the time to work it out myself, and I have to say, I'm so proud of myself for doing that, and actually, I understand the system so much better now.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: So I think be kind to yourself and give yourself time to have a play with it and not worry about making mistakes because you can you can edit stuff, you can move stuff around.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: So it really was having that time, being kind to myself, having that time, and just enjoying thinking, I don't know this, how can I find it out?
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: Is playing the best way, or do I need to get a resource on it?
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: So I have to say, I've I really enjoyed it.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: I spent a day doing it in the end and and loved it, really, and really pleased with the results as well.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, it's a good system.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I really enjoy Kinjabi's my platform, and I I thoroughly enjoy using it.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: As you were saying that, it took me back to do you remember when email was introduced?
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: And I remember this distinctly because I'd just started working, so I think it was around 97, 98, and I always remember I was in a company that was using can you?
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you remember just floppy discs to save the work, and there was this massive revolution in terms of like email coming on board.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: And I remember at the time my managers saying, No, never gonna use this, because at that time we were sending letters through the post, and then the email came on board, and it was massive, it was a massive shift, it was a massive change, and we were all forced to adapt.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Can you imagine now not using email?
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Like how in power is it?
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: It's absolutely mad, yeah.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: It's um such a change, and once you've embraced the thing, you you can go on with it, you never go backwards again, do you?
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: Once you've embraced it, you're like, ah, great, this is wonderful, and then you move on to the next thing.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, it's fine.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, and and how how life improves with it as well.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: So the days of sending a letter through the post and then waiting days for the client to respond because they then receive a letter, you know, the definition of snail mail, you know, and and like now we have this mechanism at our fingertips that delivers communication in seconds, and it has been revolutionary.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: But I guess the point that I'm trying to say is that at that time I remember people feeling overwhelmed at this new way of working, and there was resistance towards it because it was new, whereas now it's so integral in our everyday life, and we've been forced to embrace it.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: And I feel that's what's happening now in this digital world that we're living in, and it's actually not scary.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: I think it starts with the mindset, and and you sort of said it, you know, you at the beginning felt in fear of it to it to a certain extent, but now having embraced it, having realized the benefits that it's gonna give you, and how much that's gonna change and shift your business, you're now embracing that and enjoying using it because you know it's gonna bring this immense change in the future.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: And I think that's the point.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: It's just taking a step back and actually shifting the mind to the point of change is good, and this is all being designed to help you move the needle in your business so that you can again it's that freedom, that time freedom, and that financial freedom that that that we're all looking to achieve.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: And not taking it so seriously, you know, playing with it and thinking, oh, what can I do here and how do I do that?
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: And and not think, oh, I've got to do this, I've got to do this.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: This is really serious.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: It's not, you know, just take your time and play with it, and and that really helped as well.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: That playful attitude really helped because once you don't take something so seriously, you kind of get out of your own way anyway, don't you?
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, and be okay with not knowing it.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: You know, we're not gonna be a master at anything when we first start out, but and there's and there's power in that.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: Like you say, give yourself that time, that space, and be kind to yourself and learn just learn a little bit each time, and and your confidence and your knowledge will grow, and then before you know it, you you're away.
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: And and the lovely thing, what I get excited about with creating online courses is that a lot of what I try and teach can help you in your business as well.
- 34:05SPEAKER_01: So a lot of it spans, you know, through your marketing or through developing other sort of areas like building email lists and things like that.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: The principles are the same, but it's just being kind to yourself and having an open mind and embracing sort of the new things that come in your way because they've all been designed to make your life absolutely easier.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: So, with that in mind, what one piece of advice would you share with somebody who is looking to create?
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: I would go back to what I said originally.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: I I would say you have to know your why.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: Why are you doing it?
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: Because there will be challenges, there will be, oh my goodness, I've got five modules.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: What am I going to do?
- 34:44SPEAKER_02: Who am I to be set up as an expert?
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: You know, who am I to be doing this?
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: As you said before, someone buy my course, the technology, the filming, if you're not used to it, the editing, you know, there's so many bits that can be overwhelming, can intimidate you.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: You have to have a really strong reason for doing it.
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: If you get clear on that, then everything else you can overcome.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: So for me, it is absolutely why you're doing this.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: What value is having this online course going to bring to your life, to your business, to you as a person?
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: How does it fit in your big vision for the future?
- 35:13SPEAKER_02: And if you've got that, get that somewhere you can see every time, you know, every day.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: And ultimately, that will get you get you going.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: Even if you're just making little steps every day, that's fine.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: You know, a walk of a thousand miles starts with the first step, doesn't it?
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: But making steps every day towards that goal, fantastic.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: So and compartmentalize, though don't think, oh my god, I need to this, I need to this, and there's so many things we need to do.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Focus on one thing, do one thing and then look at the next thing.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: You know, take do take a step back to look at the bigger picture every now and then because you need to know, make sure you're headed in the right direction.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: But don't try and do everything at once, do one thing and then look at the next thing.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, those two things definitely have helped me 100%.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love that.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: I absolutely 100% agree with you.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: I think once you know exactly why you're doing this and what it's for, and what it's gonna give you, and you really do in sort of brace that, then you're away.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: You know that whatever time you spend creating this course is going to move you forward and get you closer to where you want to get to, and I think that's the point.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: So I love that.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: I think that's great advice.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: So, what's next?
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: Well, very excitingly, I am launching my course, it's gonna go live September, so next couple of weeks.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: So, very, very exciting.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: I've done my sales page now, so that's going live, which is so exciting! Can't wait for that.
- 36:35SPEAKER_02: My YouTube series hopefully is going to start going live next week, I think next Thursday or Friday.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: So that's exciting, and that is very much for again shiny new entrepreneurs.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: So it's obviously a free course.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: People can go on, they can get hints and tips.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: So every week I'll look at a different thing that could hold you back as an entrepreneur and go through a technique, hint tip, etc., to help you overcome that.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: And with each of them, I've created a booklet as well to help go over the techniques and everything.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: So it's very much for me, it's it's going ahead with the course, and obviously doing the one-to-one coaching.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: I've done workshops and I've done webinars, etc.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: So, definitely want to do more of that.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: I'm going to do a couple of masterclasses, one for yourself for your new passion to launch that launches in at the end of September.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: So, so yeah, so really looking forward to to really getting in there and really getting the business up and going and really helping as many people as I can really to launch a business because so many people now becoming entrepreneurs or thinking about it, but how many more would if you know if that fear wasn't such a big big factor for them?
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: So, so yeah, really looking forward to jumping in, you know, with both feet and really making a go of it, actually.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: Exciting times ahead for you.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: I think one of the things that's really impressed me with UK is how you've embraced the entire process and how much you've grown through it as well.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: And I remember very early on, I mean, we've known each other now for quite a few years, and the growth that has taken place throughout that period has been amazing.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: And I know that your your online course is going to be worthwhile, it is going to really help entrepreneurs because that's what you're all about, and I think it's incredible what you've done.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: So well done to you, and thank you so much for coming onto the show today and sharing your thoughts and whatnot.
