- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hey is comedian Kathleen Meddigan, and you're listening to tech
- 0:06Speaker 1: Talk Radio.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Who's something I will never be listening.
- 0:08Speaker 3: To because I hate technology. But for those of you
- 0:11Speaker 3: that do, these are your guys.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I live in a frozen tundra shon de weird.
- 0:22Speaker 1: No joke about that, Okay, So for those who don't know, yes,
- 0:26Speaker 1: I'm in Green Valley, Arizona, just outside of Tucson. Sean
- 0:30Speaker 1: on the other hand, is in well in your South Bend, Indiana.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I was listening to our ABC DUWS feed on our
- 0:38Speaker 1: Record Day today and they mentioned like one of the
- 0:41Speaker 1: hardest hits was South Bend, Indiana when it came to weather.
- 0:45Speaker 1: That was like pretty bad when it comes to snow
- 0:48Speaker 1: and ice and all that. You're living it right now.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So if you're a college football fan and you were
- 0:53Speaker 2: watching the Order Name game on Saturday, right it's started
- 0:59Speaker 2: to snow pretty good in the third quarter or fourth quarter,
- 1:02Speaker 2: like we had got we got quite a bit of snow,
- 1:04Speaker 2: about probably three inches two and a half three inches
- 1:07Speaker 2: of snow throughout the football game, and overnight while it
- 1:09Speaker 2: continued to snow Sunday it kind of loosened up. But
- 1:12Speaker 2: overnight Sunday and Monday, we got six inches of snow here. Wow,
- 1:17Speaker 2: And it just was made for a pretty awful commute
- 1:20Speaker 2: into work. And it kept snowing all day and probably
- 1:24Speaker 2: snowed a couple more inches. If you go about three
- 1:28Speaker 2: hours north of here to my parents' house in Lunnington, Michigan,
- 1:31Speaker 2: they got almost fifteen inches of snow.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Oh my lord. Yeah.
- 1:35Speaker 2: So and he will put the Andy will put the Yeah,
- 1:37Speaker 2: he'll put the pictures on. My mom sent me a
- 1:39Speaker 2: picture of their of the back deck. And if you
- 1:41Speaker 2: want to see what the current conditions look like here
- 1:43Speaker 2: in south in Indiana or at on campus in our name,
- 1:46Speaker 2: go to earthcam dot com search for the University of
- 1:49Speaker 2: our name. There's a camera that is in the in
- 1:51Speaker 2: the spire on top of our main building on campus,
- 1:56Speaker 2: and you can see all the snow that's that's on
- 1:57Speaker 2: campus right now. It's it was a lot.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Well, it surprised me. Okay, so talk about this this
- 2:02Speaker 1: rugby game that you sent me video for and I
- 2:06Speaker 1: had seen like it's in a really great shot of
- 2:08Speaker 1: the ice covering the lens on one of the cameras.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I think it was that.
- 2:13Speaker 2: So we have we have cameras that live on top
- 2:15Speaker 2: of the stadium for getting beauty shots around campus, and
- 2:20Speaker 2: this morning we were gonna use it. So Monday morning
- 2:23Speaker 2: we were gonna use it. And uh, it has a
- 2:26Speaker 2: wiper on it because it's outside and it was just
- 2:29Speaker 2: so coated with snow that the wiper could barely break
- 2:31Speaker 2: all the ice and snow off of it. So I
- 2:34Speaker 2: sent Andy a picture of this of the camera with
- 2:37Speaker 2: like half of the ice broken off, and you can
- 2:38Speaker 2: see the Golden Dome in the basilica. But just then
- 2:41Speaker 2: this ice picture. He's gonna put all these together and
- 2:43Speaker 2: put him on the blog.
- 2:43Speaker 1: But so is the rugby match.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yeah, So Sunday we hosted the big ten collegiate rugby
- 2:51Speaker 2: tournament here on campus. We do it every year. It
- 2:53Speaker 2: always is in November. This is the first time we've
- 2:55Speaker 2: actually had snow. Holy cow, did it snow? It probably
- 2:59Speaker 2: snowed four inches during the day and they played from
- 3:04Speaker 2: ten am to almost ten pm.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Wow.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Andy, we'll put this on the YouTube channel. You guys
- 3:09Speaker 2: can go watch it, or if you want to, just
- 3:10Speaker 2: go to YouTube search nor name rugby go to almost
- 3:13Speaker 2: like with like six minutes left in the broadcast, and
- 3:15Speaker 2: you're just gonna see it was a blizzard, winds were
- 3:18Speaker 2: blowing and they were still playing, and Notre Dame ended
- 3:22Speaker 2: up winning the Big Ten Championship. So now they're going
- 3:24Speaker 2: to play in the National Collegiate Cup in a couple
- 3:26Speaker 2: of weeks. It's it's great for Notre Dame. But man,
- 3:28Speaker 2: was the weather? Did the weather suck?
- 3:30Speaker 1: What blew me away is I'm watching this this rugby
- 3:33Speaker 1: match and I'm seeing the snow progression. At one point
- 3:37Speaker 1: it looked good and then all of a sudden it
- 3:39Speaker 1: just wouldn't stop. These guys are wearing shorts. I'm like,
- 3:43Speaker 1: how do you play a game like rugby or any
- 3:47Speaker 1: game where you're outside in shorts in a blizzard? I mean,
- 3:50Speaker 1: that's what you were dealing with. That's crazy.
- 3:52Speaker 2: We're born differently here in the Midwest. I guess, well, so, yeah,
- 3:57Speaker 2: so it's just still snowing right now, as right as
- 4:00Speaker 2: we're recording the show. If I were to show you
- 4:01Speaker 2: a camera outside, I'll try and get one hooked up
- 4:04Speaker 2: to see if you guys can see what looks like outside.
- 4:06Speaker 2: But it's still snowing right now.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Wow, that's just crazy. Would you what weather sites you
- 4:11Speaker 1: go through, because you have to keep an eye on
- 4:13Speaker 1: the weather, especially with sports at Notre Dame, just to
- 4:16Speaker 1: kind of see what's going to be moving in the
- 4:19Speaker 1: whole bit to decide, Okay, what cameras are cameras at
- 4:22Speaker 1: are risk?
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we have a couple of outdoor cameras.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Thankfully some of them have heaters, the ones that Rugby don't,
- 4:28Speaker 2: but they're on so they're generating heat and they've been
- 4:31Speaker 2: outside for four years at this point, so wow. Other
- 4:35Speaker 2: other gear, i mean, electronics don't hate the cold. They
- 4:39Speaker 2: performed better in the cold. But for football this past weekend,
- 4:42Speaker 2: we just had rain gear on and protected it from
- 4:44Speaker 2: the snow right and everything seemed to work okay, and
- 4:47Speaker 2: we tried it out after the game. It's just cold.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean, the operators can plain more than the gear does.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Being here in Arizona, we you know, we won't. We've
- 4:55Speaker 1: had snow a couple of years ago. We got some
- 4:58Speaker 1: snow and my i'd been last year and today rain,
- 5:02Speaker 1: you know, and just at least that's what was predicted.
- 5:06Speaker 1: But you know, it's funny because I had gone to
- 5:09Speaker 1: help some friends of mine move up to Rexburg, Idaho
- 5:12Speaker 1: some years ago, and it was fun and drove up
- 5:15Speaker 1: there and it was nice. It was June, it was cool.
- 5:18Speaker 1: There was a light rain that was coming down. I
- 5:20Speaker 1: remember saying, Gosh, I really like it here. You know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: maybe maybe I'd like to move here one day. And
- 5:28Speaker 1: their first winter there, they told me you really still
- 5:31Speaker 1: want to come out here, sending me pictures of the
- 5:33Speaker 1: snow piled up at the walmart where they you know,
- 5:36Speaker 1: they have the trucks that come in and clear the
- 5:38Speaker 1: parking lot and they just make big, gigantic piles of snow.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, there's usually betting in this area around when will
- 5:46Speaker 2: that snow be gone? So you bet, like you bet
- 5:48Speaker 2: over under. Is it going to be before April, before Easter,
- 5:52Speaker 2: or is it gonna be after Easter? Is it going
- 5:54Speaker 2: to be into February? You know, is it going to
- 5:55Speaker 2: be into March, April into May. You'd be surprised how
- 5:58Speaker 2: long those big piles of snow last?
- 6:00Speaker 1: Have you found? Okay, So going through talking about the
- 6:04Speaker 1: tech angle on this in the weather, have you found
- 6:06Speaker 1: one website that delivers better when it comes to weather?
- 6:10Speaker 1: I mean, there's so many out there. There's your weather
- 6:12Speaker 1: dot Com on acuweather, you know underground, which is one
- 6:17Speaker 1: that I kind of like, Is there one that's better
- 6:19Speaker 1: than the others.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Depends on where they get their data from. Most of
- 6:23Speaker 2: them get their data from the same source as the
- 6:25Speaker 2: Noah's Weather Doppler stuff. ACU Weather seems to be the
- 6:29Speaker 2: most accurate for us. It's what we used to track
- 6:32Speaker 2: weather on campus for sports, for if we have to
- 6:34Speaker 2: delay for weather related things. Yeah, ACU weather, I mean
- 6:40Speaker 2: to be honest, some of the local the local like
- 6:44Speaker 2: ABC affiliate there, the weather radar on their app for
- 6:48Speaker 2: their phone is actually really good. Yeah, it's about the
- 6:50Speaker 2: only thing I use ABC fifty seven Weather for is
- 6:52Speaker 2: the app. But yeah, just ACU weather is where I go.
- 6:58Speaker 1: To Ularry who so work here, who I've seen him
- 7:01Speaker 1: in a while, But Larry worked at ACU weather, So
- 7:05Speaker 1: he's the one to turn me on ACU weather and said,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know, you got to check out this source. And
- 7:09Speaker 1: I do like it. It seems to be the most
- 7:12Speaker 1: close to what this real situation is.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you'd be surprised right now because you get a
- 7:18Speaker 2: lot of to talk about the tech technology side of this, right,
- 7:21Speaker 2: you get a lot of the tornado streamers, a lot
- 7:24Speaker 2: of the guys who chase tornadoes. The big thing now
- 7:28Speaker 2: is also just following severe weather, So you get these
- 7:32Speaker 2: guys that are tracking blizzards now too, and driving through
- 7:35Speaker 2: and trying to get content of blizzards in different parts
- 7:38Speaker 2: of the country. So I didn't check to see if
- 7:40Speaker 2: anybody was out last night because it kind of sprung
- 7:42Speaker 2: up on us. Right we had this winter warning. The
- 7:45Speaker 2: weather was favorable, like it was forty degrees most of
- 7:50Speaker 2: the day Saturday until it plummeted and then started snowing,
- 7:53Speaker 2: and then Sunday it kind of got nice again, and
- 7:55Speaker 2: then Sunday night it just the temperature dropped and it
- 7:58Speaker 2: just big fat flakes to drop it out of the
- 8:00Speaker 2: sky and it didn't stop. I mean it was still
- 8:03Speaker 2: snow when I went to work Monday morning. It was
- 8:05Speaker 2: still stone when I came home Monday evening.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Wow, we're in it.
- 8:09Speaker 2: And everybody's saying this winter is gonna be you know,
- 8:11Speaker 2: we've been had a lot of mild winters. I only
- 8:13Speaker 2: think I had to use the snowboard twice last year,
- 8:15Speaker 2: and you know, I haven't even dewinterized it yet, right,
- 8:18Speaker 2: it's still sitting in the shed.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So we get a lot of people that we called
- 8:22Speaker 1: some people call.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Them snowbirds, that's what I call.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah, they come here during the winter to get out
- 8:28Speaker 1: of that extreme cold. So I'm sure you know for
- 8:31Speaker 1: anybody that is from that area or where your parents
- 8:35Speaker 1: are from, how do your parents deal with this? But
- 8:37Speaker 1: what do you do? I mean with the snow? Yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 1: I mean how do you stay warm in your house?
- 8:43Speaker 2: You turned the heat on. I mean it's everybody acts
- 8:47Speaker 2: like it's like this big is this big deal? It's
- 8:49Speaker 2: like at the apocalypse where it gets cold. It's it's
- 8:51Speaker 2: not that cold, right. I think it got down to
- 8:54Speaker 2: the mid twenties today. Right, that's coold. Okay, I wouldn't
- 8:57Speaker 2: want to be outside, right, right, as long as you
- 8:59Speaker 2: have a good a decent house with decent insulation and
- 9:02Speaker 2: like you're running the heat and you're wearing a sweatshirt.
- 9:05Speaker 2: If you get cold, you gotta make sure you have
- 9:07Speaker 2: a snow brush and shovels in your car. You gotta
- 9:10Speaker 2: be prepared, Like, don't just go out and go hillbilly
- 9:13Speaker 2: and drive around without it being prepared. Be prepared. Don't
- 9:17Speaker 2: be stupid. Give yourself extra time to get there. Oh
- 9:19Speaker 2: the biggest pet peeve for me in the winter time.
- 9:21Speaker 1: All right, what is it?
- 9:22Speaker 2: Brush off your car?
- 9:24Speaker 1: Now? When we had our snow here, I was driving
- 9:27Speaker 1: around with it proudly. I was like, I like it.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Sitting in the little well there, I've got snow on
- 9:32Speaker 1: the the the hood. It was like, I've been through
- 9:35Speaker 1: snow in Arizona.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Okay, So you get a little dusting and it's cool
- 9:38Speaker 2: you have snow in your I'm talking about the jabbrownis
- 9:41Speaker 2: that don't brush off their back window. They don't brush
- 9:44Speaker 2: off their roof, they don't brush off their license plate,
- 9:47Speaker 2: they don't brush off their tail lights, they don't brush
- 9:49Speaker 2: off their head lights, they don't brush off their hood.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Nothing right. And so when you're saying, you're driving down
- 9:55Speaker 2: the road and you get in the left turn lane
- 9:57Speaker 2: to turn somewhere, and all a sudden, this guy in
- 9:58Speaker 2: front of you, who's got his completely car covered the snow, decides, oh,
- 10:02Speaker 2: I gotta turn left here. He can't see you. It's
- 10:04Speaker 2: like he doesn't see you. It's it takes two seconds
- 10:07Speaker 2: to brush off your car in the morning. Don't be
- 10:09Speaker 2: lazy brush off your car because For one, it's illegal
- 10:13Speaker 2: because you can't see walking your tire. And if it
- 10:18Speaker 2: if it's been days, like if you go days where
- 10:20Speaker 2: it's melted and frozen and melting, now it's chunks of ice, right,
- 10:24Speaker 2: It's it's hilarious. Sometimes you're driving down the freeway and
- 10:28Speaker 2: you get these big semis that have all this ice
- 10:30Speaker 2: and snow on top and all You'll be driving and
- 10:32Speaker 2: all of a sudden, it just let's lose a four by
- 10:35Speaker 2: eight sheet of ice off the roof. I saw that
- 10:38Speaker 2: can kill people, right, So you get these people that
- 10:42Speaker 2: are driving with the snow on the top of their cars,
- 10:44Speaker 2: right on their back windows, and all a sudden they're
- 10:45Speaker 2: losing ice chunks and it's falling, and you're it's hitting
- 10:48Speaker 2: in your car, and just brush off your car where
- 10:51Speaker 2: I'm gonna find.
- 10:51Speaker 1: You while you're at it. What we talked last week
- 10:54Speaker 1: about the new Coca Cola commercial AI a big part
- 10:58Speaker 1: of that.
- 10:58Speaker 2: You talking about semis murdering people on the Co Cola commercial.
- 11:02Speaker 1: People are finally seeing it. However, I did see an
- 11:06Speaker 1: edit of that commercial now for those who haven't seen it,
- 11:08Speaker 1: it's up on YouTube. I forget what the what the
- 11:11Speaker 1: name of that commercial is they actually gave it a name.
- 11:14Speaker 1: But the where they edited out the people at the
- 11:18Speaker 1: end that were at the end of the street walking
- 11:21Speaker 1: across as the big Coca Cola trucks were moving through
- 11:24Speaker 1: that obviously they would have run over. It looks like
- 11:26Speaker 1: they didn't edit and they did remove those people. However,
- 11:31Speaker 1: I did see another commercial and they're they're just leaving
- 11:33Speaker 1: it as is. I couldn't I couldn't quite see how
- 11:36Speaker 1: goofy the people were walking though in this AI commercial,
- 11:40Speaker 1: was there some like goofiness there?
- 11:42Speaker 3: Yo?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they were walking. Some people were walking forward. Well,
- 11:44Speaker 2: I don't know. You couldn't tell because they were just
- 11:46Speaker 2: like these weird amalgamations. They weren't even look like people,
- 11:50Speaker 2: just different colored blobs. Some were going this way, some
- 11:53Speaker 2: were going that way. They just looked like they had arms,
- 11:55Speaker 2: something looked like they had legs. It was weird. I
- 11:57Speaker 2: don't know, it just it just there were so many
- 11:59Speaker 2: Like justin saw it, he said, all looked fine. Like
- 12:03Speaker 2: He's like, it's supposed to be quirky and animated and
- 12:06Speaker 2: it's supposed to look fake. It did not this fake.
- 12:09Speaker 1: It did have that Coca Cola like heart string feel
- 12:13Speaker 1: to it for the holidays until it gets to the
- 12:16Speaker 1: end and it runs over those people which you brought up,
- 12:19Speaker 1: and he had the same reaction to it. It was like, wow,
- 12:22Speaker 1: how could you How could you guys do this Coca Cola.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I was reading some stories about it. They're saying, you know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: it costs a lot of money to do this, to
- 12:30Speaker 1: do this AI. We think because of the tools that
- 12:33Speaker 1: we have available like open AI and Sora, which I've
- 12:37Speaker 1: been playing with. And I created my my very own
- 12:40Speaker 1: movie trailer for Revenge of the Nerds Reunion just to
- 12:44Speaker 1: see how it would work. And it worked great. You know,
- 12:47Speaker 1: it was cut off a little, but it still looked good.
- 12:50Speaker 1: People see that and they just think, oh, that's easy
- 12:51Speaker 1: to do. It's easy to do. What they do at
- 12:54Speaker 1: Coca Cola is a little different. Is it cheaper than CGI?
- 12:58Speaker 1: I don't know, or you know, traditional animation as we've
- 13:01Speaker 1: seen it, but this was created by you know, artificial intelligence.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I just think it's large companies at the c level
- 13:09Speaker 2: just saying what's cheapest? Right, what is except let's just
- 13:13Speaker 2: throw it out there. See what sticks on the wall.
- 13:15Speaker 2: See what people complain about. If they don't complain about
- 13:18Speaker 2: it too much. Maybe we'll do it again. Maybe we'll
- 13:20Speaker 2: do it again the next year. If people don't complain
- 13:22Speaker 2: about it too much, maybe they'll forget about the last
- 13:24Speaker 2: time we did it and it was awful. And but
- 13:26Speaker 2: I just it's companies doing it on the cheap. There
- 13:29Speaker 2: are talented people out there that you can hire to
- 13:32Speaker 2: do CGI. We know there's good CGI. People watch movies like.
- 13:37Speaker 2: But it's these companies that just not willing to spend
- 13:39Speaker 2: the money on good marketing. Well, okay, good marketing, right
- 13:43Speaker 2: is this good? Is this considered good marketing? It's kind
- 13:45Speaker 2: of a gorilla marketing.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Well, you exce a lot of people.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Let's just make it. Let's just make it. Let's make
- 13:50Speaker 2: AI and get all this press. No matter what, whether
- 13:52Speaker 2: it's good or bad, we're talking about it, we're giving
- 13:55Speaker 2: it the time of the day. We hate it, and
- 13:57Speaker 2: we're still talking about it. We're still talking about Coca Cola.
- 14:00Speaker 1: And everything that you're gonna go watch the ad or
- 14:02Speaker 1: you're gonna see it because it's gonna be on TV
- 14:04Speaker 1: and you're gonna look for it.
- 14:05Speaker 2: It's hard to believe that this is the way marketing works. Like,
- 14:08Speaker 2: let's just make something controversial, soevery we'll talk about.
- 14:10Speaker 1: It, which is exactly what happened.
- 14:13Speaker 2: What happened?
- 14:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it is all right, here's something that's real. And
- 14:17Speaker 1: I wanted to mention this last week of the show,
- 14:19Speaker 1: but I didn't get a chance to. The twenty twenty
- 14:21Speaker 1: five finalists of the Comedy Wildlife Photo Contests have been announced.
- 14:26Speaker 2: This is always so good. This contest racks up there
- 14:30Speaker 2: for me as the Katami National Park Fab Bear.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Contest, the Fat Bear Contest and the Comedy Wildlife Photos
- 14:40Speaker 4: Contests are two of my favorite things to look forward
- 14:42Speaker 4: to in the photography world.
- 14:44Speaker 2: It's fantastic.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Well, this is put together by Nikon Nikon's Comedy Wildlife Finalists.
- 14:48Speaker 1: There are about forty individual images and what these are.
- 14:52Speaker 1: These are wildlife that has just caught in just strange
- 14:55Speaker 1: poses situations that put a smile on your face because
- 15:00Speaker 1: you see them and they're just absolutely adorable. And the
- 15:03Speaker 1: thing is you can vote for them as well. Sean
- 15:05Speaker 1: is showing us one in the video feed right now. Uh,
- 15:08Speaker 1: the one with the frogs. It's a frog and there's
- 15:10Speaker 1: another frog on its back looking over the top of
- 15:13Speaker 1: a like a bowl or something.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like I feel like as a sibling,
- 15:17Speaker 2: I did this with my brothers. Like my brothers like
- 15:19Speaker 2: I want to see with the fence, get on your
- 15:20Speaker 2: hands and knees out standing in your back exactly exactly
- 15:23Speaker 2: what this looks like. Yeah, So it's just hilarious to
- 15:26Speaker 2: go through these.
- 15:26Speaker 1: They're so funny that it was like, oh my gosh,
- 15:29Speaker 1: that one's great.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Oh that was a seagull, uh dumping on a dumping
- 15:33Speaker 2: on an eagle there. And some of them are cute,
- 15:36Speaker 2: some are funny. But I mean, you can go back
- 15:38Speaker 2: through the history of these contests and see and just
- 15:41Speaker 2: see the history of these photos because they're just they're good.
- 15:43Speaker 2: It's good, it's good fun, it's good to look at.
- 15:46Speaker 2: It's it's comedic, it's it's a little more heartfelt and
- 15:49Speaker 2: in a hard time.
- 15:49Speaker 1: So all right, we want you to take a look
- 15:51Speaker 1: at them. You go to Comedy Wildlife Photo Dot comed again.
- 15:55Speaker 1: You can vote for them there as well. We've been
- 15:58Speaker 1: talking about a lot about video editing and audio editing,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and there's so many tools now to make this stuff easier.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I will say, and you know, I know I was
- 16:06Speaker 1: a little rough on Adobe because you know, just their
- 16:10Speaker 1: business model and the way they moved to a subscription platform,
- 16:13Speaker 1: the whole bit. But man, I've been watching videos form Adobe.
- 16:16Speaker 1: It's just amazing what they can do now. Their Adobe
- 16:19Speaker 1: Premiere Suite is just phenomenal, to the point where I'm like, gosh,
- 16:23Speaker 1: do I want to do that? Do I want to
- 16:25Speaker 1: spend the seventy nine dollars a month and you know,
- 16:28Speaker 1: go ahead and have these tools available because it is
- 16:32Speaker 1: so well done. They did a video and one of
- 16:34Speaker 1: the videos I saw, and you can find this on
- 16:36Speaker 1: the Adobe website or even on their YouTube page, they
- 16:39Speaker 1: took a kid running through a field and they were
- 16:43Speaker 1: able to and it was kids in this video explaining
- 16:45Speaker 1: how this worked, sponsored of course by Adobe, and they
- 16:49Speaker 1: were able to mask the kid running, change the entire
- 16:52Speaker 1: background out of this kid running and you know, every
- 16:57Speaker 1: his hair, the whole bit. They were able to fix it.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Just it's amazing stuff. So if you, you know, get
- 17:03Speaker 1: a chance to take a look at that. But there
- 17:05Speaker 1: is another one I wanted to mention that is, uh,
- 17:07Speaker 1: I guess it's an open source I don't know if
- 17:10Speaker 1: you've heard of this one yet, Sean. It's called OpenShot
- 17:13Speaker 1: dot org and it's not familiar. Yeah, open Shot. It's
- 17:16Speaker 1: a free, open source video editor for Linux, mac Os,
- 17:20Speaker 1: and Windows designed to be easy for use for beginners,
- 17:26Speaker 1: offering features like trimming, scaling, transitions, and audio mixing. Uh
- 17:31Speaker 1: some people have told me that have gone to da Vinci,
- 17:34Speaker 1: which I'm on. I use da Vinci. Is sometimes it's
- 17:37Speaker 1: a little tough to know I want to have this
- 17:39Speaker 1: fade out here, or I want to, you know, do
- 17:41Speaker 1: this kind of transition. Once you learn that though, it
- 17:46Speaker 1: just the same way with Premiere. Once you learn it,
- 17:48Speaker 1: it will become common. With da Vinci. It's it's super easy,
- 17:52Speaker 1: but if you're looking for another step, this one might work.
- 17:56Speaker 1: It can be downloaded from the website at open shot
- 17:59Speaker 1: and even off for a cloud API for you to
- 18:01Speaker 1: integrate video editing in your application. So if you're a
- 18:04Speaker 1: developer and you want to have this as a feature,
- 18:07Speaker 1: you can do that, and if you want to find
- 18:09Speaker 1: out more about it, you just go to OpenShot dot org.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I haven't tried it yet myself. I want to do that,
- 18:14Speaker 1: but as it is, I've learned to do pro tools
- 18:18Speaker 1: and learned to do da Vinci. Coming out of the
- 18:20Speaker 1: Adobe world. Now I want to go back into the
- 18:23Speaker 1: Adobe world and play with some of the some of
- 18:25Speaker 1: those toys.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it'd be interesting to get this and
- 18:28Speaker 2: see how well it performs. I mean interesting to see
- 18:30Speaker 2: how well it handles ten ADP or four K. Just
- 18:34Speaker 2: be curious to see. Right, doesn't really give you much
- 18:38Speaker 2: of a few feature screenshots, doesn't give you much of
- 18:41Speaker 2: a preview.
- 18:42Speaker 1: But yeah, I want to do more like the business
- 18:45Speaker 1: videos where you go into businesses and we show the video,
- 18:48Speaker 1: show their business, the whole bit. I love that Da
- 18:50Speaker 1: Vinci has a whole bunch of credits that you can
- 18:55Speaker 1: use lower thirds titling. I did a Western for guy
- 19:00Speaker 1: the other day, This guy Larry, he's an actor that
- 19:04Speaker 1: does westerns and apparently his real disappeared. So he sent
- 19:08Speaker 1: me the DVD and I said, you know, I can.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I can go ahead and get it and coded digitally
- 19:12Speaker 1: for you. But I wanted to have something in there
- 19:15Speaker 1: as a transition. And there's even the burn away like
- 19:18Speaker 1: remember the I don't know if you ever watched Bonanza
- 19:21Speaker 1: where they would do the fire effect on the map
- 19:24Speaker 1: and it would burn away, And they had that effect
- 19:26Speaker 1: available on Da Vinci. So I just thought that was
- 19:28Speaker 1: kind of cool. So yeah, I mean Da Vinci has
- 19:31Speaker 1: if you if you've not looked into Da Vinci, there's
- 19:32Speaker 1: a free version of it. If you want to play
- 19:34Speaker 1: around with video editing. I'd recommend it. It's really easy
- 19:38Speaker 1: and fun to use. Just like I said, there's a
- 19:41Speaker 1: learning curve.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Yeah, like any any software, a little bit of learning
- 19:45Speaker 2: curve never hurt anybody.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's a nice thing about it. You can
- 19:47Speaker 1: go online. You watch YouTube videos now from creators that
- 19:51Speaker 1: will teach you how to do that. We'll teach you
- 19:53Speaker 1: how to and.
- 19:54Speaker 2: It's like it's like anything else nowadays. You can just
- 19:56Speaker 2: figure it out on YouTube.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Everything you're talking about ads with Coca Cola and their
- 20:04Speaker 1: you know, big AI ad. There's a new term that
- 20:07Speaker 1: I don't know if you've heard about now. I know
- 20:09Speaker 1: that you have you you have Apple TV, don't you.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I do have an Apple You do Apple TV. One
- 20:15Speaker 1: thing you don't deal with is ads? Right? No, all right?
- 20:19Speaker 1: Have you tried pausing something you were watching? And yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 1: an Apple TV when you pause it, I guess something
- 20:28Speaker 1: that they want to start doing or there's talk about
- 20:30Speaker 1: it is a term that they're calling pause ads, and
- 20:36Speaker 1: I know that they have it on some of the
- 20:38Speaker 1: different apps like I've got the TLC app when I'll
- 20:41Speaker 1: admit and I watched a ninety Day Fiance. But when
- 20:44Speaker 1: I'm watching the app and on the TLC app and
- 20:47Speaker 1: I hit pause, it will pause, but a screen will
- 20:50Speaker 1: pop up with an AD and it's not a moving ad.
- 20:53Speaker 1: It's just an AD highlighting something that's coming up that
- 20:56Speaker 1: you can watch on peacock or something you could buy
- 21:00Speaker 1: at a store locally, the whole bit. So pause ads
- 21:04Speaker 1: are becoming like the new thing.
- 21:06Speaker 2: To be fair, a lot of people, if you're watching
- 21:08Speaker 2: a show back in the nineties, you would just go
- 21:12Speaker 2: during comrocer breaks, right, maybe the one maybe the one
- 21:16Speaker 2: person that didn't have to go to the ad. It
- 21:18Speaker 2: only makes sense that if you're pausing something, you're doing
- 21:21Speaker 2: it to step away from the TV for a second.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Well, when you come back they hit play, it will
- 21:26Speaker 1: be on that ad, so it gets in somebody's face.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So if you're gonna serve me ads, well it's pause,
- 21:33Speaker 2: you better not serve me ads while it's playing.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Well, Disney was the first one to do this. Apparently
- 21:38Speaker 1: I was doing some reading on this. They did it
- 21:40Speaker 1: on Hulu back in twenty eighteen. They started to do that,
- 21:43Speaker 1: so if you hit pause, you would get some kind
- 21:45Speaker 1: of an ad. I don't know if it was within
- 21:47Speaker 1: their same realm of Disney, you know, or Hulu, but
- 21:51Speaker 1: either way, that's what they were doing back then.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I just don't get how it's frustrating how greedy
- 21:58Speaker 2: these streaming companies are getting. No people will pay to
- 22:03Speaker 2: not have ads right now.
- 22:05Speaker 1: And then they will raise the price accordingly too.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Yeah. So like it's like, think about it, right, if
- 22:09Speaker 2: you could look back at your entire Netflix history, right right?
- 22:13Speaker 2: I think I started with a Netflix account in two
- 22:16Speaker 2: thousand and five. When I went to college. I got
- 22:19Speaker 2: three DVD shipped to me.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's one of what is dreaming, and I could just.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Ship them my back right. Actually caused people like dorms
- 22:26Speaker 2: to have issues with you had to have it delivered
- 22:28Speaker 2: to a specific campus at that point, because it was
- 22:30Speaker 2: just every ra was dealing with just putting DVDs in mailboxes.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I'll tell you funny story. I once left a DVD
- 22:37Speaker 1: at a restaurant I Gotten to Eat, picked up my mail,
- 22:40Speaker 1: took it was showing my friend Gotten to Eat left
- 22:43Speaker 1: the DVD there and I didn't realize until a couple
- 22:46Speaker 1: of days later, somebody had mailed it back for me,
- 22:49Speaker 1: which was kind of cool. So yeah, so.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Have you seen we're talking about Netflix, right, do you
- 22:54Speaker 2: remember red Box?
- 22:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, totally red Box gone now yeah.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Well it is gone. Little internet community that is dedicated
- 23:02Speaker 2: to finding and opening the red boxes. Red Boxes abandoned it, right,
- 23:08Speaker 2: you can't, you can't do anything with it. But there's
- 23:10Speaker 2: a community that is dedicated to tracking the red boxes down,
- 23:15Speaker 2: getting them. People have three D printed the keys, They
- 23:17Speaker 2: are able to open them, get out all the movies
- 23:20Speaker 2: and games that were in it. And people have actually
- 23:22Speaker 2: gotten to hacking the os so that it will can
- 23:27Speaker 2: play the it's got the whole kiosk. Guy's got the
- 23:30Speaker 2: TV up top, it's got the display, and people have
- 23:32Speaker 2: gotten them hacking so they can put their own DVDs
- 23:34Speaker 2: in there and spin them out like you're actually renting
- 23:36Speaker 2: the DVDs from the constant the system.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Again, why and I don't understand why they just bailed
- 23:42Speaker 1: and just left everything.
- 23:43Speaker 2: The company went out of business right up to the
- 23:46Speaker 2: individual business I what to do with it, scrap it,
- 23:48Speaker 2: junket whatever. So there's a community dedicated to tracking down
- 23:51Speaker 2: and restoring or taking Red boxes it's kind of just
- 23:55Speaker 2: go to reddit and go to the red box subreddit right,
- 23:58Speaker 2: and you will find all of this stuff. It's kind
- 24:01Speaker 2: of comical to see and people like people have them
- 24:03Speaker 2: in their living rooms, in their basements, their man caves, dens, whatever,
- 24:07Speaker 2: and there's all these tips and tricks on how to
- 24:09Speaker 2: do and referb and a lot of us still have
- 24:11Speaker 2: had DVDs and games in them.
- 24:13Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna take a quick break. We come back.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Something that Microsoft is doing that actually is kind of cool.
- 24:19Speaker 1: We'll tell you about that when we come back with
- 24:20Speaker 1: more of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Seanda Weird.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Find us on your favorite podcast platform and give us
- 24:26Speaker 2: the like and subscribe.
- 24:27Speaker 1: And now back to tech talk Radio.
- 24:29Speaker 3: I really enjoy listening to your show.
- 24:31Speaker 1: It's really cool, well, very informative. US rookies. Are you
- 24:36Speaker 1: a rookie. I'm very much a rookie.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Typically before the show, I say the words no night,
- 24:44Speaker 2: and that's usually to my toddler when I'm trying to
- 24:46Speaker 2: put her to sleep.
- 24:47Speaker 1: You actually say nine night. You actually call it the
- 24:51Speaker 1: brand name, go.
- 24:54Speaker 2: To sleep please. I could do show yes fall sleep please.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Now it's it's me falling asleep and Andy's calling me saying,
- 25:01Speaker 2: are we doing a show to there?
- 25:02Speaker 3: Are you?
- 25:03Speaker 1: Are you awake? Yeah?
- 25:04Speaker 2: Uh just so so those who don't know, like Andy's
- 25:07Speaker 2: two hours behind me, three hours during day that saving time.
- 25:10Speaker 2: So it's like sometimes I'm put in my boice to
- 25:11Speaker 2: beleeve and I fall asleep. But night Night is an
- 25:14Speaker 2: app that we've we've talked about on the show. I've
- 25:16Speaker 2: used it, Justin's used it, Matt used it. I don't
- 25:18Speaker 2: know if Andy's used or not, but.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Use it yet.
- 25:20Speaker 2: It's a website you can go to and you can
- 25:22Speaker 2: pick like it's got all these great apps for your computer.
- 25:25Speaker 2: It's got messaging apps and web platforms and web browsers
- 25:29Speaker 2: and text editors and social media sites and social media stuff.
- 25:33Speaker 2: You just curate what you want to pick the ones
- 25:35Speaker 2: you want, hit download and it installs a package and
- 25:39Speaker 2: it downloads a packager.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:45Speaker 2: So you download this packager, you run it and it
- 25:48Speaker 2: just goes through. It installs the a dozen softwares and
- 25:53Speaker 2: it's just hey, they're installed. It's great.
- 25:56Speaker 1: People say, it's like, it's like great, if you bought
- 25:58Speaker 1: a new computer you did, do you know any kind
- 26:01Speaker 1: of transfer of that whether PC mover or the other
- 26:06Speaker 1: does the install it works out pretty good that you
- 26:09Speaker 1: just get up and running.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but just like Microsoft, they're probably gonna root it
- 26:13Speaker 2: because they have their own.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Yeah, apparently they came up with what one this week?
- 26:17Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, it looks like Microsoft has one.
- 26:19Speaker 1: It's called the uh app pack.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Multi Yeah app Pack multi app Install Windows. It's it
- 26:27Speaker 2: actually looks mysteriously just like non nite.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Yep it does you have.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Your productivity tab? You have your creativity tab. I mean
- 26:35Speaker 2: it's it's clearly a non Night competitor built by Microsoft
- 26:39Speaker 2: for Microsoft for Windows users. Right, So it's got a
- 26:43Speaker 2: lot more niche softwares, it looks like, whereas nine Night's
- 26:47Speaker 2: more like your run of the mill. This is what
- 26:49Speaker 2: you're gonna need for a clean install kind of thing,
- 26:52Speaker 2: right now. What this doesn't do that nine Night can
- 26:56Speaker 2: offer for a cost is keeping things up to date
- 26:59Speaker 2: and installings multiple.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Machines, oh, nine Night.
- 27:02Speaker 2: With nine Night, you can subscribe to their bundle and
- 27:06Speaker 2: allow it to update multiple machines, keep things updated, download
- 27:10Speaker 2: packagers that you can send to people, and install things
- 27:12Speaker 2: like that. So it's like this is for just me
- 27:15Speaker 2: on my computer. The app store but it's right here
- 27:18Speaker 2: on the App Store in Windows looks pretty straightforward. It's
- 27:22Speaker 2: got quite a bit. It doesn't look like I can
- 27:25Speaker 2: do more than what I've already just got right or
- 27:30Speaker 2: what's just here. So it looks like it might just
- 27:32Speaker 2: be these apps that are on here in this list.
- 27:35Speaker 2: It doesn't look like there's more than what's on this
- 27:37Speaker 2: list list, which looks like it's about a handful a
- 27:39Speaker 2: dozen couple dozen, which I'm surprised they have Rufous on here,
- 27:42Speaker 2: because yeah, they have Rufous on here. I'm surprised because
- 27:46Speaker 2: I thought they didn't want people trying to install their
- 27:48Speaker 2: own version of Windows without the I feel like they're
- 27:51Speaker 2: enabling people to do that and then so they can
- 27:53Speaker 2: just take their videos off the internet.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Wow.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's like tools and utilities, right, You've got
- 27:59Speaker 2: speed Test, Rufus, a couple other ones that I've never
- 28:03Speaker 2: heard of.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Wow, Personalization, Open obs Studio. I thought was that was
- 28:08Speaker 1: kind of cool to see that in that Microsoft bundle
- 28:11Speaker 1: that was showing.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I still feel like I still feel like OBS
- 28:14Speaker 2: is hands down the number one platform for content creators
- 28:18Speaker 2: on the Internet. It's lightweight, it's super custom as well.
- 28:22Speaker 2: It's open sourced, it's community driven, it seems to be
- 28:25Speaker 2: just and there's not really an OBS killer that's out
- 28:27Speaker 2: there that does what OBS does for the price.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I mean, Riverside to me is probably one of the
- 28:32Speaker 1: best that's been around.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, right, OBS is a content creation tool. Right,
- 28:38Speaker 2: OBS is a content platform. So I feel like you're
- 28:43Speaker 2: paying for the content piece on Riverside, and then if
- 28:46Speaker 2: you're doing live content, you would you still use OBS.
- 28:49Speaker 2: So I think either it's great, I think but OBS
- 28:53Speaker 2: is kind of like the it has the biggest foothold
- 28:55Speaker 2: on the streaming community.
- 28:57Speaker 1: I am starting to see some adu that are being
- 29:02Speaker 1: focused on telestream wirecasts, and I'm sorting to seeing ads
- 29:06Speaker 1: focused on them, I think getting back to getting their
- 29:10Speaker 1: their you know, users to come back that may have
- 29:12Speaker 1: left and gone to OBS for live shots to lift riverside.
- 29:18Speaker 2: So it's like it's interesting because like we could never
- 29:21Speaker 2: get wirecast to work.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a hard we had a hard time.
- 29:23Speaker 2: We had a hard time. Like it just like you
- 29:25Speaker 2: had a different version or I had a different version,
- 29:27Speaker 2: or the browser didn't support it. It was so difficult.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Like I feel like I don't want to say bad
- 29:32Speaker 2: things when we did. When it did work, it looks great.
- 29:35Speaker 2: It just felt like it was extra steps in that
- 29:38Speaker 2: they didn't take the opportunity to develop. And then all
- 29:41Speaker 2: of a sudden, a handful of all the ones came
- 29:43Speaker 2: up and people dumped ship and now they're trying to
- 29:45Speaker 2: offer it as a as a as a lower cost.
- 29:47Speaker 1: I still have not like jumped in to Riverside FM,
- 29:51Speaker 1: which is the platform we use for live streaming. I
- 29:55Speaker 1: haven't tried that yet. Now. I I went ahead and
- 29:58Speaker 1: I renewed my license for Wirecast just in case I
- 30:01Speaker 1: get a live stream event. I did an event once
- 30:03Speaker 1: in Phoenix with the author Stephanie Meyer, who wrote Twilight,
- 30:07Speaker 1: and that was a huge event and streamed. I needed
- 30:11Speaker 1: to have that, and I'm nervous that, you know, if
- 30:13Speaker 1: we do something like that again, Riverside wouldn't be able
- 30:17Speaker 1: to support it. I've got to I got to put
- 30:18Speaker 1: it through its spaces. We need to do a live
- 30:20Speaker 1: at some point, just to try to see if it's
- 30:24Speaker 1: if it can handle it. You know, not like we're
- 30:26Speaker 1: gonna have the bandwidth that we had with the Wirecast one,
- 30:30Speaker 1: but still it would be cool.
- 30:31Speaker 2: I don't do much streaming anymore anyways, right, just work
- 30:35Speaker 2: just for work work stuff. But that's all through nor Name.
- 30:38Speaker 1: So right, well, you know, I'll have to see how
- 30:41Speaker 1: that plays out. But again, if you want to, if
- 30:43Speaker 1: you want to access this, it was a little hard
- 30:46Speaker 1: to find at first. You go to this is the
- 30:48Speaker 1: website link that you can go to to get the
- 30:51Speaker 1: app pack. That's part of the Microsoft Store. Again. It's
- 30:54Speaker 1: in the Microsoft Store. Again, it's free to do. If
- 30:57Speaker 1: you've got Windows, you're running that apps apps dot Microsoft
- 31:02Speaker 1: dot com forward slash app pack and that's a p
- 31:05Speaker 1: P P a c K and you'll be able to
- 31:10Speaker 1: get it there.
- 31:10Speaker 2: So it's not on the front of their website at all.
- 31:13Speaker 2: They don't make it easy to find things sometimes, you know.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I find a lot of things like that, like Peacock
- 31:18Speaker 1: all right, the streaming service. Right, they just added Dalton
- 31:22Speaker 1: Abbey all right. Gloria is a big fan of Dalton
- 31:24Speaker 1: abby So it's the grand finale. I wanted to watch
- 31:28Speaker 1: it in the theaters, but you know, we just couldn't
- 31:30Speaker 1: get the time to go. So okay, cool, we'll watch
- 31:32Speaker 1: it on Peacock. I go to the website to the channel,
- 31:36Speaker 1: I can't see it. I have to do a search
- 31:38Speaker 1: for it. I'm thinking, if it's brand new, why did
- 31:41Speaker 1: you just put it on the front page.
- 31:42Speaker 2: But well, because you're not tagged into the algorithm, right,
- 31:45Speaker 2: it doesn't know what to serve you, so it just
- 31:47Speaker 2: gives you the generic.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Homescreen, right, just kind of a pain in it. All Right,
- 31:53Speaker 1: we have a couple of listener questions. I want to
- 31:55Speaker 1: get to one of those if we can. So let's
- 31:59Speaker 1: go ahead and let's share the one that we got
- 32:01Speaker 1: in from Louri in Tucson says, hello you cheery tech guys.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Maybe Sean's not that cheery because it's a little cold.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Maybe chili, yeah, cheery, maybe it's.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Chilly, Hello you chili tech guys. I'm wondering if you
- 32:16Speaker 1: get answer to this. I'm on social media Facebook, Instagram,
- 32:19Speaker 1: and YouTube. Now I keep getting message requests to connect
- 32:22Speaker 1: from people on Telegram. What is that? And is it safe?
- 32:27Speaker 1: Louri in Tucson Telegram.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I think I don't know. I honestly don't know, and
- 32:32Speaker 2: I think it's a social media platform. I honestly don't know.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Tell it's basically like what's app it it seems to be.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Telegram is a cloud based messaging app that let's use
- 32:40Speaker 2: your send text, voice, mesage, photos, videos. It's cross platform
- 32:44Speaker 2: end encryption right cloud storage, groups and channels. So it's
- 32:48Speaker 2: just it's in short telegrams like what's Apple Signal, but
- 32:51Speaker 2: with larger group capabilities.
- 32:53Speaker 1: I want to remind you though, Lourie, uh And I
- 32:55Speaker 1: don't know how you feel about this one, Sean. When
- 32:57Speaker 1: you get message requests from strangers that are on flat Facebook,
- 33:03Speaker 1: Instagram or YouTube and they say, I'm hardly on this,
- 33:06Speaker 1: but I would love to reach out to you and
- 33:08Speaker 1: carry on a conversation, you know, find me on Telegram
- 33:11Speaker 1: or what's your telegram? Gotta be really lary about that.
- 33:15Speaker 1: That's a setup for a scam if.
- 33:17Speaker 2: It's I mean, I feel like if it's people you know, yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 2: more often than not, you're gonna get asked outside of
- 33:26Speaker 2: social media like hey, I got this new app, let's
- 33:29Speaker 2: connect on Telegram or let's start a group chat on Telegram.
- 33:32Speaker 2: It's not gonna just be like some rando on Instagram
- 33:35Speaker 2: or Facebook's gonna message you and say let's chat on Telegram. Yeah, scam.
- 33:40Speaker 2: That's clearly clearly if you're getting asked to connect with
- 33:44Speaker 2: people on Telegram, maybe it's somebody you haven't talked to
- 33:46Speaker 2: in thirty years, twenty years, ten years, whatever. Be leery
- 33:51Speaker 2: of those types of connections because it's gonna you know,
- 33:54Speaker 2: if they send you a link that says, hey, log
- 33:56Speaker 2: into Telegram, and you click on it and you log
- 33:59Speaker 2: in to a website that you might think looks like Telegram,
- 34:03Speaker 2: well now you might be logged into a fishing site.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Now they have your information. So just or you know,
- 34:08Speaker 2: a lot of sites will ask you to if you
- 34:11Speaker 2: click out a link and it'll say connect or log
- 34:13Speaker 2: in with Facebook, or log in with Google, or log
- 34:15Speaker 2: in with Apple. Right, just be careful if you're clicking
- 34:19Speaker 2: on nefarious links, because they may prompt you with a
- 34:22Speaker 2: very familiar looking website that says connect with Google, connect
- 34:25Speaker 2: with Facebook, you log in with your Facebook crerentials that
- 34:30Speaker 2: you've just provided them with your Facebook login. So yeah,
- 34:34Speaker 2: I would say, if somebody's reaching out to you to
- 34:37Speaker 2: connect on Telegram and you haven't talked to them in
- 34:40Speaker 2: a long time, reach out to them via another or
- 34:43Speaker 2: advert Yeah, reach out to them another way, confirm with
- 34:47Speaker 2: them that they're actually Telegram.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Do use what'sapp.
- 34:51Speaker 2: I mean I have used WhatsApp to connect with some
- 34:54Speaker 2: people in Poland and in Germany and a couple a
- 34:58Speaker 2: couple relatives in German and we used it when we
- 35:01Speaker 2: went to the UK just.
- 35:03Speaker 1: To get some free messaging, right right, it's interesting, all right,
- 35:07Speaker 1: So Laurie, just be be very wary. There is there
- 35:10Speaker 1: is telegram out there, you know, if it's worth your time,
- 35:13Speaker 1: look it up and then make that decision there at
- 35:16Speaker 1: that point that you know that might help you out
- 35:18Speaker 1: with that. So I don't know, or send a real telegram,
- 35:22Speaker 1: send a real what a real telegram?
- 35:26Speaker 2: Like you go?
- 35:27Speaker 1: And boy, all right, I I want to share this
- 35:31Speaker 1: with you. I don't know if you've seen this yet.
- 35:33Speaker 1: There's there's a YouTube video on Tom's hardware page and
- 35:36Speaker 1: I mentioned Tom tom is they have some great stuff there.
- 35:39Speaker 1: It's a guy named Vimpo who uh took an Ali
- 35:43Speaker 1: Express led light bulb and took it apart. Uh He
- 35:48Speaker 1: disassembled the bulb then desoldered it's micro controller and the
- 35:52Speaker 1: video shows you all the step by step. So what
- 35:54Speaker 1: this guy did this? This actual micro controller can run
- 35:59Speaker 1: up to a hunter ninety two megahurtz. It's equipped with
- 36:02Speaker 1: a two hundred and fifty two hundred and seventy six
- 36:05Speaker 1: K of ram one hundred and twenty eight k of
- 36:08Speaker 1: ram and what he did with it. He created a
- 36:11Speaker 1: Minecraft server out of a light bulb and the video
- 36:16Speaker 1: shows how to do it. More and more people are
- 36:18Speaker 1: trying to do different things with it, you know, whether
- 36:20Speaker 1: it's servers, the whole bit.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's a there's a trend of a lot
- 36:27Speaker 2: of people that are trying to do video games.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 36:30Speaker 2: They're taking video games and trying to run them on
- 36:32Speaker 2: anything that has a microprocessor in or a controller. The
- 36:36Speaker 2: big one is can it run Doom? People have tried
- 36:40Speaker 2: to get if it can run even at one frame
- 36:43Speaker 2: per second, right, they will they will count it as
- 36:47Speaker 2: a win and it's something that can run Doom.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Wow.
- 36:50Speaker 2: I mean they've gone as far as Randoom on a
- 36:53Speaker 2: pregnancy test. I'm not joking. Wait what really they got
- 36:58Speaker 2: it to run? They got they got it to run
- 36:59Speaker 2: at one frame or half a frame per second or
- 37:02Speaker 2: something silly Doom. There's people try to run Doom on
- 37:06Speaker 2: literally anything, right, So I'm assuming that this is very
- 37:11Speaker 2: similar to that, where what is the the stupidest thing
- 37:15Speaker 2: you can run Minecraft on? And it doesn't have to
- 37:17Speaker 2: run well, it just has to run compile and run
- 37:21Speaker 2: on and give you any sort of video output mind blowing.
- 37:26Speaker 1: All right, we're going to take another quick break. We'll
- 37:28Speaker 1: come back with more of tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 37:31Speaker 1: I'm Shrendword.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Send us a telegram. Wait, we don't have that.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Well we do now I just edited the tech talk Radio.
- 37:38Speaker 1: We'll just see if I can figure out how it works.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Find us on Facebook at tech talk radio dot com.
- 37:43Speaker 1: We'll be right back and now back to tech talk Radio.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Got a chance this week to take a look at
- 37:51Speaker 1: a new keyboard. And you know, you think about keyboards,
- 37:54Speaker 1: keyboards and keyboards, they've been around for a long time.
- 37:58Speaker 1: You know, with a cordy style of key board that
- 38:00Speaker 1: it can I mean you remember the old plugs that
- 38:03Speaker 1: you had for your keyboard, and then you had USB
- 38:07Speaker 1: came along and it was cool, and then wireless and
- 38:09Speaker 1: then blue tooth, and then the keyboards got smaller, it
- 38:13Speaker 1: became more portable, and we've seen some great ones, even
- 38:16Speaker 1: you know the Logitech K four eighty which I really like,
- 38:19Speaker 1: where you could switch between you you have a small
- 38:22Speaker 1: little keyboard, you could put an iPad or a tablet
- 38:26Speaker 1: in there and control it with the keyboard switch it
- 38:30Speaker 1: maybe to your phone which is over here on the side,
- 38:33Speaker 1: or even your computer. Well, they've introduced this new one.
- 38:35Speaker 1: It's a Logitech signature Slim Solar plus the K nine eighty.
- 38:41Speaker 1: They have a business model and then they have, you know,
- 38:44Speaker 1: a personal use consumer model, the consumer model. The only
- 38:48Speaker 1: difference really is that the consumer model does not come
- 38:51Speaker 1: with a USB dongle or the USB key, you know,
- 38:54Speaker 1: the lodg of bolts, that's what they call it. But
- 38:57Speaker 1: most people have blue tooth on most of their devices,
- 38:59Speaker 1: So there you could do that, or you could buy
- 39:02Speaker 1: a Logia bolt as well. It's powered by light by
- 39:07Speaker 1: light by light, there's no batteries, you don't plug it in,
- 39:12Speaker 1: there's no cable that connects to your computer, connects via Bluetooth.
- 39:17Speaker 1: All powered by the light and not solar light. It's yeah,
- 39:20Speaker 1: you could use it outside, but it could be the
- 39:22Speaker 1: ambient light in a room. And with the Loaja Options app,
- 39:27Speaker 1: it's kind of cool. You download the Outlaga Options app
- 39:31Speaker 1: Options app. It's free from Logic Attach. It will tell
- 39:33Speaker 1: you what kind of charge it's getting and say you
- 39:38Speaker 1: use it in a room that's pitch black, right or
- 39:41Speaker 1: pretty dark, and you've got the screen lighting up the keyboard,
- 39:44Speaker 1: because I don't think the keyboard light's up itself. But
- 39:47Speaker 1: if you do that, it will still run, and it
- 39:49Speaker 1: can run for about three years. It's got a ten
- 39:52Speaker 1: year they say a ten year battery life or ten
- 39:55Speaker 1: year use of this. But I mean pretty amazing stuff.
- 40:00Speaker 1: And it can all be customized with a lodg of
- 40:02Speaker 1: options at So whether it's PC, tablet, mobile, Apple, you know, Mac,
- 40:07Speaker 1: you can you can have some fun fun with this one.
- 40:10Speaker 1: And again it sells for about one hundred bucks. If
- 40:12Speaker 1: you buy the business model, that one sells for about
- 40:15Speaker 1: one hundred and ten dollars, but you can find out
- 40:17Speaker 1: more at logitech dot com. But yeah, lad had a
- 40:21Speaker 1: lot of fun with that.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're talking about this new keyboard, and yeah,
- 40:26Speaker 2: if you ever wanted a keyboard so bad that you
- 40:29Speaker 2: went and bought it and you got home and you
- 40:31Speaker 2: plugged it in and it didn't work.
- 40:32Speaker 1: What happened I wanted?
- 40:33Speaker 2: So go back me. Yeah, two thousand and seven. I've
- 40:39Speaker 2: got a nice Mac Pro from two thousand and seven,
- 40:42Speaker 2: So it's a it's a two thousand and six Mac Pro,
- 40:45Speaker 2: like bought it from my old workplace two thousand and
- 40:47Speaker 2: seven running power PC. Love it right? Playing World of Warcraft.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Steel Series.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Comes out with this zfold World of Warcraft. It's a
- 40:59Speaker 2: zfold key board. It folds out, it's got.
- 41:01Speaker 1: I remember those, it was just the top folds out right.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Yeah, well no, it's a it's a it's a z
- 41:05Speaker 2: fol but it's like it's got custom buttons on the
- 41:08Speaker 2: side for roller World of Warcraft stuff. It's got a
- 41:11Speaker 2: a Bernie Crusade's module. It's gotta it's got a a
- 41:14Speaker 2: Wrath of Liz key module. So I went to GameStop
- 41:17Speaker 2: and I was like, I'm gonna spend one hundred, one
- 41:19Speaker 2: hundred and fifteen dollars when bought it, drove all the
- 41:24Speaker 2: way home, super excited, got my computer around, went plugged in.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Doesn't support mac os.
- 41:29Speaker 1: You're kidding me.
- 41:31Speaker 2: I was so mad. There's because I just I just
- 41:35Speaker 2: didn't pay attention. But you're talking about keyboards, and that
- 41:39Speaker 2: fat memory just comes flooding back of how mad. I
- 41:41Speaker 2: was right. It didn't support mac oes. So a lot
- 41:46Speaker 2: of things that it's weird, like you don't think that USB,
- 41:48Speaker 2: but it's like specific drivers for all the extra buttons
- 41:51Speaker 2: and the functions and max big about not letting keyboards
- 41:55Speaker 2: do certain function controls and stuff like that. So it's like,
- 41:57Speaker 2: I get it now, but at that point I was
- 41:59Speaker 2: just it's just an angry twenty something year old video
- 42:03Speaker 2: gamer that just wanted to play World of Warcraft and
- 42:05Speaker 2: I couldn't with my new Nati keyboard.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Did they take it back? Were you able to take
- 42:09Speaker 1: it back?
- 42:10Speaker 2: They did, but of course they couldn't give it to me.
- 42:12Speaker 2: You know, I couldn't get the whole because I had
- 42:14Speaker 2: opened it, so that was an open box and so
- 42:17Speaker 2: I got only got like seventy five percent of my
- 42:19Speaker 2: money back, and it was I was mad all the
- 42:21Speaker 2: way around. But anyways, that's my little rant about keyboards.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Now I know better. Now I have a nice Steel
- 42:28Speaker 2: Series mechanical keyboard, ten key lists, but I like a.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Lot of detech. You'll find most of my equipment is
- 42:34Speaker 1: a lot of detect. Steel Series They've been around a
- 42:36Speaker 1: long time. Bruce Hover used to be the CEO of
- 42:39Speaker 1: the company. He's been on the show. I've introduced him
- 42:41Speaker 1: at a different events. Steel Series makes. They still make
- 42:45Speaker 1: some great products, and you know, I know, I know
- 42:48Speaker 1: that people compare Steel Series with Corsair because Corsair makes
- 42:52Speaker 1: a lot of gaming stuff there, but I don't know.
- 42:54Speaker 1: I think I honestly think Steel Series still comes ahead
- 42:58Speaker 1: when it comes to the ranks also in there as well.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think those are the top trendy brands.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Matt would be mad at me because I completely forgot
- 43:07Speaker 2: about the keyboard that he has that he told us about.
- 43:10Speaker 2: The website. There's a website. He knows. There's a I
- 43:12Speaker 2: can't remember. I should probably just text him and ask him.
- 43:15Speaker 2: There's a bunch of great hobby mechanical keyboard sites that
- 43:19Speaker 2: you can go to and customize your own and build
- 43:21Speaker 2: your own get the right switches you want. Do you
- 43:23Speaker 2: want loud and clackie? Do you want quiet and subtle?
- 43:27Speaker 2: Do you want aggressive? Do you want high rebound? I mean,
- 43:31Speaker 2: you don't think about this right. You think, oh, it's
- 43:33Speaker 2: a keyboard, like there's only one switch. There's one Like, No,
- 43:36Speaker 2: if you want to light the world on fire, go
- 43:40Speaker 2: into a mechanical keyboard subreddit and say cherry blacks are
- 43:44Speaker 2: the best or something silly. Right, You're gonna get You're
- 43:46Speaker 2: gonna get a million people with different different reasons why
- 43:49Speaker 2: their switch is better than this one, and all this
- 43:51Speaker 2: stuff and did you like I said, masks canna be
- 43:54Speaker 2: mad at me.
- 43:54Speaker 1: I forgot two keyboards that I've had that I liked.
- 43:59Speaker 1: One of them. I think it was a company called Burke,
- 44:02Speaker 1: and it was geared at video editing, and it was
- 44:04Speaker 1: kind of cool because it had a jog wheel on
- 44:07Speaker 1: it so if you were editing, it had lights that
- 44:10Speaker 1: went above it. It had keys that could be customized
- 44:14Speaker 1: for different tasks like you know, cut for editing, for
- 44:18Speaker 1: you know, for splicing, transition, that whole bit. And again,
- 44:22Speaker 1: I don't know if there's still around, but this is
- 44:24Speaker 1: many years ago when I was, you know, working around
- 44:28Speaker 1: with Premiere that I got a chance to play with
- 44:30Speaker 1: this and it was great.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I found it. I found the website that Matt was to.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Key Cron, Key kronn all Right.
- 44:36Speaker 2: A lot of times custom mechanical keyboards can be pricey
- 44:39Speaker 2: and two hundred dollars are up or whatever, but you
- 44:42Speaker 2: can get some of these relatively inexpensive k E y.
- 44:46Speaker 1: C A E y C h RO and key Kron
- 44:50Speaker 1: like he loved those.
- 44:51Speaker 2: He did. Yeah, so it looks like I mean, you
- 44:55Speaker 2: can get relatively I mean the keyboards aren't actually ninety
- 44:58Speaker 2: nine dollars for this one that's up, and you can
- 45:01Speaker 2: pick which switches you want between reds or browns, or
- 45:05Speaker 2: you can pick if it's a ten keyless. I mean,
- 45:07Speaker 2: it's just keycrun dot com. If you're looking for a keyboard.
- 45:09Speaker 2: We're talking about keyboards here. We're talking about keyboards we've
- 45:12Speaker 2: had all throughout our days. Yeah, but I know that
- 45:16Speaker 2: Matt really likes these key crowns. And whether you want
- 45:19Speaker 2: one hundred percent board now, when I'm saying the percentages, right,
- 45:22Speaker 2: it's whether or not it has all of the keys
- 45:25Speaker 2: that you know we would get. Ninety six percent would
- 45:28Speaker 2: be something that's missing a couple keys. But then it
- 45:32Speaker 2: goes down from there, right, and you know, seventy five
- 45:35Speaker 2: percent is basically the board without the ten keys, right,
- 45:40Speaker 2: sixty is spread out a little bit more and it's
- 45:43Speaker 2: missing the function keys. You gotta go and look. But
- 45:45Speaker 2: like I'm running a seventy five ten keyless. It's like
- 45:50Speaker 2: I don't have the number pad off to the right.
- 45:52Speaker 1: See I like that. I like to have it, well,
- 45:54Speaker 1: I do. So.
- 45:55Speaker 2: I I didn't have a much I didn't have a
- 45:57Speaker 2: whole lot of space on my desk, right, so I
- 45:59Speaker 2: thought I deduced it I five inches or so. But
- 46:03Speaker 2: the number of times that I've I'm typing and I
- 46:06Speaker 2: go to type in a number and I'm like a man,
- 46:08Speaker 2: I have to go to the top row. Then I
- 46:10Speaker 2: get mad because I have to go to the top
- 46:12Speaker 2: row and I'm lazy.
- 46:13Speaker 1: You know. Programmable keyboards are a lot of fun too,
- 46:16Speaker 1: because you can mess with people. If you know your
- 46:19Speaker 1: co workers, you can get in there reprogram their keys
- 46:22Speaker 1: so the A is actually typing something else or I
- 46:25Speaker 1: mean you that's what's fun about programmables. But I will
- 46:29Speaker 1: tell you the keyboard I never liked was the ergonomic keyboard.
- 46:34Speaker 1: And those are the ones that had kind of a
- 46:36Speaker 1: kind of a bump in the middle of it, and
- 46:38Speaker 1: they say it was good for your hands and the
- 46:40Speaker 1: whole bit. Just never a big fan of the ergonomics
- 46:44Speaker 1: on those keyboards. And if you remember those.
- 46:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you had the ones that split your hands.
- 46:50Speaker 2: So yeah, typing more split and then you have if
- 46:53Speaker 2: you if you're ever interested, right, the standard for most
- 46:57Speaker 2: keyboards that the most number of keyboards you probably if
- 46:59Speaker 2: A are QW E R T Y querty. Yeah, right,
- 47:04Speaker 2: But have you ever seen a devorge at keyboard. I
- 47:06Speaker 2: don't get it. It's everything's laid out differently. Everything looks weird,
- 47:10Speaker 2: like all that muscle memory you learned, Like I guess
- 47:12Speaker 2: if you learn. They say, if you learn it that way,
- 47:14Speaker 2: it's better. It's faster, more more ergonomic than a curity keyboard.
- 47:18Speaker 1: But you know what, I'm seeing a lot as people
- 47:21Speaker 1: are learning the shortcuts. They're learning that you know, you
- 47:25Speaker 1: could type windows you or you know when I or
- 47:29Speaker 1: you type all it's it's made it easier. And it's
- 47:34Speaker 1: so funny because honestly, ten years ago I couldn't convince
- 47:38Speaker 1: anybody to do shortcuts here at work. You know, oh
- 47:41Speaker 1: we'll do this, or you know, you teach them control
- 47:44Speaker 1: Z and it's like, oh wow, really that can repair
- 47:47Speaker 1: a lot of my stuff. But people are now actively
- 47:49Speaker 1: looking for those shortcuts on their keyboards, and that makes
- 47:53Speaker 1: life just so much easier when you're.
- 47:55Speaker 2: And again we've talked about this before too. It's like
- 47:57Speaker 2: it's interesting with this current generation of people learning, a
- 48:00Speaker 2: lot of them don't know how to operate computers. They
- 48:03Speaker 2: don't know keyboard shortcuts. They don't know what's control C,
- 48:07Speaker 2: what's v X, you know, all the keyboard shortcuts that
- 48:10Speaker 2: you needed to know because they're so used to doing
- 48:12Speaker 2: it on their phones, right, and it's like you just
- 48:15Speaker 2: say copy instead of control C yeah or thatch command
- 48:19Speaker 2: see or whatever. So it's interesting to see the trends
- 48:22Speaker 2: across keyboard shortcuts. And you know, you're either a clicker
- 48:27Speaker 2: or you're a keyboard shortcut, right, either a right clicker
- 48:31Speaker 2: do the command, or you're a keyboard clicker. It's interesting
- 48:33Speaker 2: to see just how different people use computers.
- 48:37Speaker 1: We were talking before the show though, and to switch
- 48:40Speaker 1: the subject of keyboards about security, and there is a
- 48:45Speaker 1: story that I don't know if you've ever seen the
- 48:48Speaker 1: meme where everybody is just hitting their head at the
- 48:50Speaker 1: same time because it's like, are you kidding me? It's
- 48:55Speaker 1: one of the craziest, most ridiculous security stories that I've
- 48:58Speaker 1: read in a while.
- 49:00Speaker 2: You would think a place that has some of the
- 49:04Speaker 2: most important art and history in the world would have
- 49:08Speaker 2: decent security, right, So take for existence, the Louver. It's
- 49:13Speaker 2: in France, it's a big, important place, it's got a
- 49:16Speaker 2: lot of people coming there all the time. You don't
- 49:19Speaker 2: think that their password would be louve.
- 49:22Speaker 1: That is just so mindful for those who haven't been.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Paying attention to world news in the last three months
- 49:29Speaker 2: or so. It's been that long. There was a heist
- 49:31Speaker 2: at the Louver where where some heisters took a cherry picker,
- 49:36Speaker 2: which is a truck with a boom on it, raised
- 49:39Speaker 2: it up to the second floor, opened a window, climbed in,
- 49:43Speaker 2: stole a bunch of French royal jewels and scanandled nop
- 49:48Speaker 2: and they got away. And they literally did a review
- 49:54Speaker 2: of the security at the Louver and found fake cameras.
- 49:58Speaker 2: The password was the password was love. They were running
- 50:03Speaker 2: a unpatched security software from two thousand and three, running
- 50:07Speaker 2: Microsoft Server two thousand and three.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Are you kidding me? Oh so?
- 50:11Speaker 2: Like just yeah, the love was still This is what
- 50:15Speaker 2: this is from a PC game article. Documents indicated that
- 50:19Speaker 2: in two thousand and five, the Louver was still using
- 50:21Speaker 2: security software purchased in two thousand and three that's no
- 50:23Speaker 2: longer supported, and running on hardware using Windows Server two
- 50:27Speaker 2: thousand and three. So you think that your work policies
- 50:33Speaker 2: I'm getting from Windows tend to will live in Windows
- 50:35Speaker 2: eleven are bad. Try showing up with a computer running
- 50:40Speaker 2: Windows two thousand Server two thousand and three and see what.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Happens and having that type of password. Uh, just's ridiculous.
- 50:48Speaker 2: That's like just that's just like using your first name
- 50:51Speaker 2: as a password or your dog's name, like something that's
- 50:54Speaker 2: so fundamentally simple to solve. I feel like they got
- 50:57Speaker 2: fished by, like what's the first place you visited today?
- 51:00Speaker 1: Loof?
- 51:01Speaker 2: What's your favorite place to view art? The loof?
- 51:03Speaker 1: The Loof.
- 51:06Speaker 2: So it's like it's like silly to think that such
- 51:08Speaker 2: an important place, Like those are places that you think that,
- 51:11Speaker 2: like it's the security looks and feels so lax because
- 51:14Speaker 2: it's so strong, Like it's it's like one of those
- 51:17Speaker 2: things where it's like out of sight, out of mind. K. Yeah,
- 51:19Speaker 2: I don't see the security, so it's got to be
- 51:20Speaker 2: that good. Yeah, But then it's like you can just
- 51:23Speaker 2: open up the cabinet and take the piece of art.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Just crazy. All right, we're gonna take another quick break.
- 51:27Speaker 1: We come back with more of tech talk Radio. I'm
- 51:29Speaker 1: Andy Taylor, I'm Sean to Weird.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Find us on the web at tech talk radio dot com.
- 51:33Speaker 1: We'll beer back and now back to tech talk radio.
- 51:36Speaker 3: But I don't want to buy just the absolute primo
- 51:39Speaker 3: system out today that usually wastes money. So I'll be
- 51:41Speaker 3: doing some digital photography, maybe some video editing. Don't do
- 51:45Speaker 3: any gaming at all, so I don't have that demand
- 51:47Speaker 3: on the computer. It's wondering what you guys would suggest,
- 51:49Speaker 3: either in brands or just in general speed and where
- 51:52Speaker 3: do you go to get the maximum bang for the
- 51:54Speaker 3: buck right now sounds.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Like you want to max.
- 51:58Speaker 2: We're just talking about security and stuff, but have you
- 52:00Speaker 2: ever had a device and we talked about some of
- 52:02Speaker 2: these device to the fort where you're using it for
- 52:04Speaker 2: a couple of years and then all of a sudden
- 52:06Speaker 2: they make a plan change. It goes to a subscription model,
- 52:09Speaker 2: you lose a feature, right, We've talked about them before.
- 52:11Speaker 1: Right outcam for me, it was a card camera. Yeah.
- 52:16Speaker 2: So Bo's is not one of those companies that you
- 52:18Speaker 2: think would do this right. Bose is a manufacturer of
- 52:20Speaker 2: high end sound systems, but Bose is officially announced it
- 52:24Speaker 2: the cloud support end of cloud support for all of
- 52:26Speaker 2: its Sound Touch products, so Soundtuch bars, Soundtuch speakers. The
- 52:31Speaker 2: benefit of those products is that you could tie them
- 52:33Speaker 2: together with speakers in multiple rooms and tie through the app.
- 52:38Speaker 2: And they're just getting rid of it. They're saying it's
- 52:40Speaker 2: not gonna work anymore after February eighteen, twenty twenty six
- 52:43Speaker 2: year device is essentially going to become a dumb speaker
- 52:45Speaker 2: in the sense of losing its smart wireless cloud you know, connectivity, right, Like,
- 52:50Speaker 2: if you rely on this for streaming the device's Wi
- 52:52Speaker 2: Fi or from the mobile app, that's all gonna go away.
- 52:55Speaker 2: So if you're using it to play Spotify, using it
- 52:57Speaker 2: to play tune In or Pandora or probably things like that,
- 53:01Speaker 2: you're no longer to be able to stream those services
- 53:03Speaker 2: to the speaker. You can still use Bluetooth to stream
- 53:06Speaker 2: from your phones app, but not from the device itself. Yeah,
- 53:11Speaker 2: So people that have been using them to connect multiple
- 53:13Speaker 2: rooms in their homes, that's gonna go away. Yeah. So
- 53:17Speaker 2: it's like one of those another one of those things
- 53:19Speaker 2: where it's like they're just gonna stop. It's gonna become
- 53:21Speaker 2: a dead product.
- 53:22Speaker 1: And why would they do that after people have invested
- 53:25Speaker 1: in an embody because bus isn't cheap, let's face it.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's just and they're saying that even
- 53:31Speaker 2: like in the future for newer versions of the software,
- 53:35Speaker 2: it's not gonna be supportive for these older versions, so like,
- 53:37Speaker 2: even if you get a new version of software, it's
- 53:39Speaker 2: not gonna support your older versions of hardware. So it's like,
- 53:42Speaker 2: I'm just curious to see why Boast said to just
- 53:45Speaker 2: probably a security concern, I would imagine because of the
- 53:48Speaker 2: lack of like changing over the support. But I don't know.
- 53:52Speaker 2: I just I don't like that companies leave dead products
- 53:55Speaker 2: like this, where you get so ingrained with a feature
- 53:59Speaker 2: or a streaming platform, or you know, you rely you're
- 54:04Speaker 2: so ingrained in this platform, and then all of a
- 54:07Speaker 2: sudden it's like we're not doing anymore, forces you to
- 54:11Speaker 2: buy something new, forces you to buy something different. I
- 54:14Speaker 2: don't know. My in laws have one of these, so
- 54:16Speaker 2: I'm curious to know how they're going to be affected.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Wow, all right, we'll talk more about that next week
- 54:22Speaker 1: on the show. In the meantime, have yourselves a great week.

- 54:43Speaker 2: taste of what we're dealing with up here in the cold,
- 54:45Speaker 2: barren tundra.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Stay frosty, my friend
- 54:49Speaker 2: Stay frosty, and we'll talk to you next week.
