- 0:13- Welcome to the divine five one five pod
- 0:16- podcast. Here is this week's devotional.
- 0:20- Hello, and welcome to daily prayers with Valerie
- 0:23- Rocha. I'm your host, Valerie Rocha, and I'd
- 0:26- like to welcome you to week number two's
- 0:30- podcast series of walking in spiritual discernment.
- 0:34- We're gonna be tackling
- 0:36- why emotions can cloud spiritual discernment and how
- 0:39- to find God's wisdom,
- 0:41- in the process.
- 0:44- Now we as believers
- 0:46- often
- 0:47- make decisions based on emotions rather than discernment.
- 0:52- And because we're human,
- 0:54- fear, frustration,
- 0:55- excitement, disappointment, and anxiety,
- 0:59- to name a few of the experiences and
- 1:02- emotions
- 1:03- that we experience can often distort how we
- 1:07- interpret situations and how we hear God's direction.
- 1:13- Now the beautiful thing
- 1:15- here is that
- 1:16- prayer creates that space between our emotions
- 1:20- and our decisions.
- 1:22- It's what allows God's wisdom to become greater
- 1:25- than our feelings.
- 1:27- And not that there's anything wrong with feelings.
- 1:30- God gives them to us,
- 1:32- to to get through whatever we're facing,
- 1:35- but
- 1:36- we shouldn't stay there.
- 1:39- James one and five tells us that if
- 1:42- any
- 1:43- of you lack wisdom,
- 1:45- you should ask God who gives generously
- 1:48- to all without finding fault.
- 1:51- Now one of the things I love here
- 1:54- is that
- 1:56- not only does God give us what we
- 1:59- don't have,
- 2:02- but he gives it to us above and
- 2:05- beyond.
- 2:06- I I totally love that because it means
- 2:09- that whatever it is that God has placed
- 2:11- before us, he will equip and
- 2:14- provide for us
- 2:15- so that we can finish the task.
- 2:19- God created emotions,
- 2:21- but
- 2:22- he never intended
- 2:24- them to lead our lives.
- 2:27- They're indicators,
- 2:28- not directors.
- 2:31- They are there to reveal what is happening
- 2:34- inside of us,
- 2:35- but are not always reliable guides for decision
- 2:39- making.
- 2:40- I'm sure you can all attest
- 2:42- to
- 2:43- you were faced with something,
- 2:45- and
- 2:46- you felt this way or that way, and
- 2:49- you followed that feeling
- 2:51- only to find out that it led you
- 2:54- down the path of
- 2:56- disappointment
- 2:57- or something
- 2:59- less than desirable.
- 3:02- And when emotions are high, discernment can become
- 3:05- difficult.
- 3:07- Fear can make us hesitate,
- 3:10- whereas excitement
- 3:11- can cause us to rush ahead.
- 3:14- Discouragement,
- 3:15- on the other hand, can make us quit
- 3:17- all too soon. So
- 3:20- pick a emotion,
- 3:21- a situation,
- 3:22- and without God's help, we're subject to fall
- 3:26- off the cliff if you if you will.
- 3:29- Prayer helps us slow down long enough to
- 3:32- see God's wisdom.
- 3:34- And instead of us reacting
- 3:36- immediately,
- 3:38- it helps us to learn how to pause
- 3:41- and ask,
- 3:42- heavenly father, what are you saying about this
- 3:45- situation?
- 3:47- I think one of the key points here
- 3:49- is that
- 3:51- in the world that we're living in,
- 3:53- everything is I wanted the day before yesterday.
- 3:58- But when we're working through all of this
- 4:03- quick
- 4:06- and
- 4:08- overly
- 4:09- sometimes
- 4:10- emotionalized
- 4:12- lifestyle or situations,
- 4:15- it's always
- 4:16- subject to air.
- 4:19- The good thing, though, is that discernment grows
- 4:22- when wisdom becomes louder than emotions.
- 4:25- And just like anything else, it's a skill,
- 4:29- and prayer is the way that we
- 4:33- fine tune that skill.
- 4:36- That being said,
- 4:38- let's pray.
- 4:41- Heavenly father,
- 4:42- help us not to be led by fear,
- 4:45- frustration, or anxiety,
- 4:47- or any other emotion for that.
- 4:49- Thank you for giving us the emotions.
- 4:52- But, father, help us to not let the
- 4:54- emotion
- 4:55- be the leader, but rather allow the word
- 5:00- and prayer
- 5:01- to lead and guide us in all that
- 5:03- we say and do.
- 5:05- Give us wisdom
- 5:06- that rises above our emotions
- 5:09- and teach us to see your perspective before
- 5:12- making any decisions.
- 5:15- And all thy ways
- 5:18- get an understanding.
- 5:19- Father, we say thank you that not only
- 5:22- do you give us the template, but you
- 5:24- give us the ability
- 5:26- to follow the template when we seek your
- 5:29- face.
- 5:30- In Jesus name, amen.
- 5:34- If this episode encouraged you, share it with
- 5:37- someone who may need wisdom for a decision
- 5:40- they're facing.
