HEIST: Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Ltd
Over Easter 2015, a gang of men in their late fifties to mid-seventies drilled through a vault wall in London's diamond district and broke into 73 safety deposit boxes, carrying out what became known as the biggest burglary in English legal history. All five main defendants pleaded guilty and were sentenced, but the majority of the stolen gems and valuables, estimated at a minimum of 14 million pounds, has never been recovered. The full value of the theft remains disputed, the whereabouts of most stolen property unknown, and the case remains open.
