  Speaker 1: of the conference. I renamed my topic, Redefining the Blessing.

  Speaker 1: So if you just wrote the blessing last night, would

  Speaker 1: you add redefining the blessing? I think it's a shift

  Speaker 1: that God is bringing to us. We looked at part one.

  Speaker 1: Yesterday night, examining a few fundamentals, and I'd like to
• 2:58
  Speaker 1: just quickly recap, and then we'll connect to this morning's session.

  Speaker 1: We read a few portions of scripture yesterday night, just
• 3:08
  Speaker 1: to establish the fact that the concept of the blessing,
• 3:11
  Speaker 1: or blessings generally, is a biblical concept, and we find
• 3:16
  Speaker 1: that scattered from Genesis chapter 1. In fact, the first
• 3:20
  Speaker 1: initiator of that concept himself was God, 128. Genesis, the
• 3:25
  Speaker 1: Bible says, and God blessed them and said unto them,
• 3:29
  Speaker 1: be fruitful, multiply, etc. When we get to Genesis chapter 12,
• 3:35
  Speaker 1: the Bible says he calls Abraham out of awe of
• 3:38
  Speaker 1: the Chaldeans and sends him to a land and begins
• 3:41
  Speaker 1: to propose a series of blessings to him. I will
• 3:44
  Speaker 1: bless you, make your name great. I will bless them
• 3:47
  Speaker 1: that bless you, curse him that curses you. And in thee,

  Speaker 1: he says, verse 3, shall all the families of the
• 3:54
  Speaker 1: earth be blessed. Are we together? And I did tell

  Speaker 1: us that God can bless and men can also bless.

  Speaker 1: You recall the portion of scripture when Rebecca was being

  Speaker 1: released by her family, a blessing was spoken over her life.

  Speaker 1: And the Bible also tells us in Psalm 1, it says,

  Speaker 1: blessed is the man. So men can be blessed. Blessed
• 4:22
  Speaker 1: is the man. In Psalm 103, it says, Bless the Lord,
• 4:27
  Speaker 1: O my soul, and all that is within me, bless
• 4:30
  Speaker 1: his holy name. So men can bless the Lord. For
• 4:35
  Speaker 1: a foundation, we established a few things that blessing, generally speaking,
• 4:40
  Speaker 1: is connected to favor, still remember, connected to advancement, connected
• 4:47
  Speaker 1: to peace, connected to protection, preservation, and triumph. So when
• 4:53
  Speaker 1: you mention the word blessing, generally these are the words
• 4:57
  Speaker 1: that are related to or connected to the blessing. And
• 5:00
  Speaker 1: we examine a few Greek and Hebrew words just to
• 5:03
  Speaker 1: put us in perspective. We examine the Hebrew word barak,
• 5:07
  Speaker 1: that when we talk about blessing as the word barak,
• 5:10
  Speaker 1: it generally means to stoop down, to bow. Now that's
• 5:15
  Speaker 1: the expression of blessing when it's in relation to God.
• 5:18
  Speaker 1: When you say bless the Lord, you don't mean give
• 5:20
  Speaker 1: him money or make his life better. Are we together?
• 5:24
  Speaker 1: There's nothing we can add to improve on God's, you know,
• 5:28
  Speaker 1: who he is. He feels all things, you know, in

  Speaker 1: word bless. And then we looked at the word eulogia. See, remember? Eulogia, E-U-L-O-G-I-A.

  Speaker 1: generally saw that as a pronouncement that produces an effect

  Speaker 1: of wealth, an effect of peace, an effect of protection.

  Speaker 1: Now that's where the proclamation of the blessing comes. Like
• 6:21
  Speaker 1: the priest was commanded to declare the blessing upon the people.
• 6:25
  Speaker 1: Like Isaac blessed Jacob. and like all kinds of blessings
• 6:29
  Speaker 1: that happen in the Bible. So when you make a decree,
• 6:33
  Speaker 1: a prophetic pronouncement upon people, deposit grace upon their lives,
• 6:38
  Speaker 1: that begins to guide them into several possibilities, from prosperity
• 6:42
  Speaker 1: to favor. Are we together? We examined the life of
• 6:47
  Speaker 1: Esau and Jacob yesterday as a case study, how that Isaac...
• 6:52
  Speaker 1: blessed Jacob instead of Esau. And even though it was
• 6:57
  Speaker 1: through the vehicle of deceit, it still happened that the
• 7:01
  Speaker 1: blessing rested upon him to the point that Esau cried
• 7:05
  Speaker 1: as an adult, a hardworking adult, and he still cried
• 7:08
  Speaker 1: the value of the blessing.
• 7:10
  Speaker 2: Hallelujah.

  Speaker 1: And I did tell us that another Greek word, and
• 7:14
  Speaker 1: this one has to do with the portrait of a
• 7:17
  Speaker 1: blessed man, is the Greek word makarios. And that does
• 7:21
  Speaker 1: not just talk of a pronouncement. It is the portrait
• 7:24
  Speaker 1: of the result of the blessing. It means to be fortunate.
• 7:28
  Speaker 1: It means it's a portrait of one who's triumphed already.
• 7:31
  Speaker 1: It's a portrait of one who's prospered. Hallelujah. Praise the
• 7:35
  Speaker 1: name of the Lord. I pointed a few things yesterday night,
• 7:39
  Speaker 1: if you recall, that in the Old Testament, the concept
• 7:43
  Speaker 1: of blessings, they were largely concerned with speakings. Remember? Prophetic
• 7:49
  Speaker 1: pronouncements that were backed up by the power of God
• 7:52
  Speaker 1: and if and when received by faith, produced certain effects
• 7:56
  Speaker 1: like favor, preservation, protection.
• 8:00
  Speaker 3: But in the New Testament, the concepts.
• 8:03
  Speaker 1: Began to change, particularly with the arrival of Jesus as
• 8:07
  Speaker 1: the Christ. And we explained a few things. Now we
• 8:10
  Speaker 1: covered three very important concepts, the blessing of Abraham, the blessing,
• 8:17
  Speaker 1: and then blessings. Still remember, you have to keep that
• 8:20
  Speaker 1: as a rule of thumb. And we said the blessing
• 8:22
  Speaker 1: of Abraham, we examine from Isaiah chapter 51 and verse 2.

  Speaker 1: He says to look unto Abraham your father and to
• 8:30
  Speaker 1: Sarah that body for I called him alone and I
• 8:33
  Speaker 1: blessed him and I increased him. And we did agree
• 8:38
  Speaker 1: that the blessing of Abraham, unfortunately, unlike the narrative that
• 8:44
  Speaker 1: is the popular narrative across the body of Christ, it
• 8:47
  Speaker 1: has nothing to do with physical or material things. The
• 8:51
  Speaker 1: blessing of Abraham is is a mystery that is shrouded
• 8:55
  Speaker 1: in the story of a man. Are we together? The
• 8:58
  Speaker 1: blessing of Abraham contains within it the revelation of the
• 9:02
  Speaker 1: formula to find salvation, to connect to the Christ. So
• 9:06
  Speaker 1: in summary, yesterday we said the blessing of Abraham is
• 9:10
  Speaker 1: justification by faith.
• 9:14
  Speaker 3: Abraham believed God.
• 9:16
  Speaker 1: Even though it was impossible, and it was credited to
• 9:19
  Speaker 1: him for righteousness. And so we, like faithful Abraham, when
• 9:23
  Speaker 1: he gives us a report that we have been saved.
• 9:27
  Speaker 3: That we have been redeemed, are we together?
• 9:29
  Speaker 1: That our sins have been forgiven, no matter how impossible
• 9:33
  Speaker 1: it is.

  Speaker 3: In his case, it was the issue of fertility and fruitfulness.

  Speaker 1: In our case, it's like faithful Abraham. If and when

  Speaker 1: we believe, are we together? That he believed that it

  Speaker 1: comes later. But the foundation of it is faith, justification

  Speaker 1: by faith. And then it gives room to the blessing. Remember,

  Speaker 1: the blessing is the promise of the Spirit. So the
• 10:21
  Speaker 1: Holy Spirit, among the many expressions, is also the blessing.
• 10:26
  Speaker 1: It is not what He brings, it is who He is.
• 10:30
  Speaker 1: And then alongside all the resources that come with him.
• 10:33
  Speaker 1: Galatians 3 from verse 13. Christ has redeemed us from
• 10:37
  Speaker 1: the curse of the law. Being made a curse for
• 10:41
  Speaker 1: us for it is written. Cursed is everyone who hangs
• 10:44
  Speaker 1: upon the tree. There you go.

  Speaker 3: That blessing.

  Speaker 1: Would you want to put your phones on silent? That
• 10:50
  Speaker 1: the blessings of Abraham. Praise the name of the Lord.

  Speaker 3: Will come upon the Gentiles.

  Speaker 1: Through Christ or in Christ, to the end that we

  Speaker 1: might receive the blessing, the promise of the Spirit through faith.

  Speaker 1: Are we together? Remember when Peter preached his first sermon

  Speaker 1: on the day of Pentecost, he made a very profound statement.

  Speaker 1: He said, for this promise, the same promise here, the
• 11:21
  Speaker 1: promise of the Spirit, the blessing, the promise.
• 11:24
  Speaker 3: Is unto you and to your children your.
• 11:28
  Speaker 1: Children's children, as many as are far off, even them
• 11:31
  Speaker 1: who the Lord will call. So when it has to

  Speaker 1: do with the blessing, I told us that Jesus Christ

  Speaker 1: came and in his glory, providing for us access to

  Speaker 1: the blessing, he corrected the reason why Esau cried. Esau
• 11:45
  Speaker 1: cried because there was no possibility of receiving the same
• 11:49
  Speaker 1: thing with Job again. But now, the Spirit of God
• 11:53
  Speaker 1: grants us access. So it doesn't matter whether you come
• 11:57
  Speaker 1: late or come early, provided you come into Christ, you
• 12:00
  Speaker 1: have access to the blessing.

  Speaker 3: And I proved to us from Scripture that the Holy Spirit.

  Speaker 3: In resting upon the believer, he also comes as the blessing.

  Speaker 1: Psalm 133. Remember how good and how pleasant it is

  Speaker 1: when brethren dwell together in unity. It's like the oil
• 12:19
  Speaker 1: that comes upon the head of Aaron, the priest, down
• 12:22
  Speaker 1: to his garment. He says, for there, in that gathering,
• 12:26
  Speaker 1: God had commanded what? The blessing, even life forevermore. And
• 12:30
  Speaker 1: we saw that this was an adumbration of the day
• 12:33
  Speaker 1: of Pentecost. Acts chapter 2 and verse 1. Now, when
• 12:37
  Speaker 1: the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were gathered together,
• 12:41
  Speaker 1: like Psalm 133 says. And in that gathering, the Bible says,
• 12:45
  Speaker 1: suddenly they saw cloven tongues as of fire. It sat

  Speaker 1: upon everyone. And then verse 3, the Bible says that...

  Speaker 1: You know, they were filled, verse 4. Now, they were
• 12:56
  Speaker 1: filled with the Holy Ghost. And they began to speak
• 12:59
  Speaker 1: in other tongues. He came as the blessing. Because the
• 13:02
  Speaker 1: Bible says there, the Lord hath commanded the blessing. In
• 13:06
  Speaker 1: this case, the Spirit. So to the believer, when you
• 13:11
  Speaker 1: say you are blessed, it doesn't just mean you got
• 13:15
  Speaker 1: a job. No, that's the effect of being blessed. A
• 13:20
  Speaker 1: job is not the reason you are blessed. A car
• 13:23
  Speaker 1: is not the reason you are blessed. Do you understand
• 13:25
  Speaker 1: what I'm saying now? Because if you base your understanding
• 13:29
  Speaker 1: of the blessing to these things, then you are carnally minded.
• 13:32
  Speaker 1: It then means there are many people without Christ who
• 13:34
  Speaker 1: are blessed. There is nobody without Jesus Christ who is blessed.

  Speaker 1: Diligence, you can route some of the effects that are

  Speaker 1: parallels of the blessing even without Christ. Through diligence, you

  Speaker 1: can buy a car. You can buy a house. But

  Speaker 1: not connecting it to material things. Those are the effects.

  Speaker 1: of Abraham. Justification by faith. Now that gives you access

  Speaker 1: you're going to be learning this morning and the evening,

  Speaker 1: there is a kind of business you do with the
• 14:22
  Speaker 1: Holy Spirit as the blessing that brings you into blessings.

  Speaker 1: So you can have the Holy Spirit, He's the blessing,

  Speaker 1: and never have the evidence of His presence manifest in
• 14:34
  Speaker 1: your life. Are we together? There are many people who
• 14:38
  Speaker 1: have the Holy Spirit, and the only way you know
• 14:41
  Speaker 1: they have the Holy Spirit is when they pray in tongues.

  Speaker 1: You cannot find the evidence of the blessing in them.

  Speaker 1: And I told you that there are many expressions of
• 14:51
  Speaker 1: the blessings. In fact, primarily they are spiritual, like peace,
• 14:56
  Speaker 1: like the fruit of the Spirit, like the God-like character.

  Speaker 1: You see, these are not things you can outsource outside
• 15:03
  Speaker 1: of the Christ. You can try to tame the flesh
• 15:05
  Speaker 1: using the mechanics, but it won't work. Are we together? Now,
• 15:11
  Speaker 1: it is only to those who are in Christ and
• 15:15
  Speaker 1: those who have received the promise of the Spirit by faith,
• 15:18
  Speaker 1: they are the ones who say, I am blessed. So
• 15:22
  Speaker 1: you don't just abuse it and say, I am blessed
• 15:24
  Speaker 1: because you feel you have money. No, no, no, no.
• 15:26
  Speaker 3: You are rich, but you are not blessed. You can
• 15:31
  Speaker 3: be prosperous in.

  Speaker 1: As much as we define financial prosperity, but you are

  Speaker 1: not blessed. The concept of blessing is exclusive to those

  Speaker 1: the purpose of the blessing, the purpose for the blessing.

  Speaker 1: I begin with a quote from a dearly revered mentor,

  Speaker 1: now gone to be with the Lord, Dr. Miles Monroe,

  Speaker 1: made a very profound and popular statement that when the
• 16:29
  Speaker 1: purpose of a thing is not known, he says, abuse
• 16:32
  Speaker 1: becomes inevitable. Hallelujah. The word abuse comes from two words,
• 16:37
  Speaker 1: abnormal use. Every time the purpose of a thing is
• 16:40
  Speaker 1: not known, you will use it in an abnormal way. Hallelujah.

  Speaker 1: And it's called abuse. So the purpose of the blessing,
• 16:48
  Speaker 1: now that we've understood that the blessing talks about the
• 16:50
  Speaker 1: Holy Spirit alongside all the resources that comes with him
• 16:55
  Speaker 1: providing an advantage for the believer in and through Christ.

  Speaker 1: For a text again, let's consider Genesis 12 and verse 3.

  Speaker 1: We're looking this morning at the purpose of the blessing.

  Speaker 1: Genesis 12 verse 3, he's proposing a blessing to Abraham now.

  Speaker 1: And he says, I will bless them that bless thee
• 17:17
  Speaker 1: and curse him that cursed thee. Just pause for a
• 17:19
  Speaker 1: moment and if you look carefully, this should already comfort someone.
• 17:24
  Speaker 1: That for every them or every him that curses you,
• 17:28
  Speaker 1: there are them. The ratio should comfort you. Are we together?

  Speaker 1: For every one person who looks down on you, trivializes you,
• 17:39
  Speaker 1: there are many, many people who love you, who honor you,

  Speaker 1: who desire your good. It is the ratio of him

  Speaker 1: to them. I will bless those who bless you and

  Speaker 1: I will cause him. So it's not that bad. You

  Speaker 1: mind to think on these things. Hallelujah. Back to our discussion.

  Speaker 1: that curses you. And he says, in thee, I like this,

  Speaker 1: in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

  Speaker 1: The word families there go beyond just nuclear houses and homes.

  Speaker 1: It also extends to people groups. In thee, Genesis 12

  Speaker 1: and verse 3, shall all the families, how many? All

  Speaker 1: the families of the earth be shall be blessed. I

  Speaker 1: don't know what version this is. In thee shall all

  Speaker 1: the families, oh, he's just trying to give us some, okay, beautiful,

  Speaker 1: we're back to KJV. In you shall all the families

  Speaker 1: of the earth be blessed. Second scripture is found in
• 19:37
  Speaker 1: Ephesians chapter 2 and verse 10. Paul, the apostle, mentoring

  Speaker 1: the church in Ephesus, he makes a very profound statement.
