- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I was just at the park yesterday, and you know what caught my eye? Luna: What's that? Something fun? Lucas: There were these little ducks waddling by the pond, and a family was tossing them bits of bread. It made me think, we should learn how to talk about that in Cantonese. Luna: Oh, that sounds adorable. Feeding ducks, yeah. I'd love to know how to say that. Lucas: Perfect. And hey, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Cantonese, and you appreciate that we keep this show free of ads, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It really helps us keep going. Luna: Yeah, totally. Every little bit helps, and it keeps the podcast clean. But now, back to those ducks. Lucas: Right. So the word for duck in Cantonese is 鴨仔. Luna: 鴨仔. Lucas: Good, 鴨仔. And if you want to say 'to feed ducks', it's 餵鴨仔. Luna: 餵鴨仔. That's fun to say. 餵鴨仔. Lucas: You've got it. Now, let's put it in a full sentence: 我哋餵鴨仔. That means 'we feed ducks'. Luna: 我哋餵鴨仔. So 我哋 means 'we'? That's neat. Lucas: Exactly. So if you're at the park with a friend, you can say 我哋餵鴨仔. And to ask if someone has bread to feed them, you'd say 你有冇麵包? Luna: 你有冇麵包? That's asking, do you have bread? Lucas: Yes, and 麵包 is the word for bread. So you can ask for some bread to feed the ducks. Let's practice the whole thing. Say after me: 鴨仔. Luna: 鴨仔. Lucas: 餵鴨仔. Luna: 餵鴨仔. Lucas: 我哋餵鴨仔. Luna: 我哋餵鴨仔. Lucas: 你有冇麵包? Luna: 你有冇麵包? Lucas: Perfect. Now imagine you're at the pond with your little cousin. You want to feed the ducks together. What do you say? Luna: I'd say 我哋餵鴨仔. Lucas: That's right. And then your cousin might ask, 你有冇麵包? So you can reply, yes, I have bread. Luna: And how do I say 'yes, I have bread'? Actually, we haven't learned that yet, have we? Lucas: Not today. But you can just nod and say the word for bread, 麵包. So you'd say, 麵包. And they'll understand you have it. Luna: Oh, nice. So, 麵包. Lucas: Exactly. You're getting the hang of this. Let's do a quick recap. The duck is 鴨仔. Luna: 鴨仔. Lucas: To feed ducks is 餵鴨仔. Luna: 餵鴨仔. Lucas: We feed ducks is 我哋餵鴨仔. Luna: 我哋餵鴨仔. Lucas: And do you have bread is 你有冇麵包? Luna: 你有冇麵包? Lucas: And just for fun, the word for bread is 麵包. Luna: 麵包. I can already imagine us at the park, throwing little bits to the ducks and saying 我哋餵鴨仔. That's so sweet. Lucas: It really is. And remember, practice these phrases a few times and you'll be ready for your next park visit. Thanks for joining us today on Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. See you next time. Luna: Bye bye, and happy duck feeding.
