- Lucas: Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. Luna: Thanks Lucas! I'm ready. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today, we're going to a pet shop. Imagine you have a cat or a dog, and you need to buy food. Luna: Oh, that's practical! My neighbour has a cat. So I might need to buy cat food for them? Lucas: Exactly. So first, how to say 'cat food' in Malay is makanan kucing. Luna: Makanan kucing. Makanan is food, and kucing is cat. So cat food. Lucas: Right. Now, to say 'I want to buy cat food', you say Saya nak beli makanan kucing. Luna: Saya nak beli makanan kucing. Saya nak beli is 'I want to buy'. Lucas: Yes. Say it with me: Saya nak beli makanan kucing. Luna: Saya nak beli makanan kucing. That's a good sentence! Lucas: Now if you have a dog, dog food is makanan anjing. Luna: Makanan anjing. And 'I want to buy dog food' is Saya nak beli makanan anjing. Lucas: Perfect. So you can swap kucing or anjing. Luna: Got it. What if I need to say how much? Like one bag of food? Lucas: Good question. 'One bag' is satu beg. Satu is one, beg is bag. Luna: Satu beg. So 'I want to buy one bag of cat food' would be Saya nak beli satu beg makanan kucing. Lucas: Exactly. And 'two cans' is dua tin. Dua is two, tin is can. Luna: Dua tin. So Saya nak beli dua tin makanan anjing. Lucas: Yes! You're picking it up quickly. Now, when you're at the shop, you might want to ask the price. Luna: We've learned berapa harga? as 'how much is this?' right? Lucas: Right. Berapa harga ini? means 'How much is this?' Luna: Berapa harga ini? And if it's expensive, I can say ini mahal. Lucas: Yes! Mahal means expensive. So you could say Ini mahal if it's too pricey. Luna: So today we've got Saya nak beli makanan kucing, Saya nak beli makanan anjing, satu beg, dua tin, berapa harga ini, and ini mahal. Lucas: That's right. Let's practice a full conversation. Imagine you're at the pet shop. Luna: Okay, I'll be the customer. So I walk in and say Saya nak beli makanan kucing. Lucas: The shopkeeper asks: Satu beg atau dua tin? Luna: I say Satu beg. Then I ask Berapa harga ini? Lucas: The shopkeeper says: Dua puluh ringgit. Luna: And I say Ini mahal! Just kidding, maybe it's okay. Lucas: That was good. You used all the phrases naturally. Luna: This is really helpful. I can imagine using this at a pet shop. Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Malay, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going — buymeacoffee dot com slash fexingo, if you've gotten something out of them. Luna: Yeah, it really helps keep the show ad-free and coming out regularly. Every little bit counts. Lucas: Alright, let's do one more round of practice. Repeat after me: Saya nak beli makanan kucing. Luna: Saya nak beli makanan kucing. Lucas: Saya nak beli makanan anjing. Luna: Saya nak beli makanan anjing. Lucas: Satu beg. Luna: Satu beg. Lucas: Dua tin. Luna: Dua tin. Lucas: Berapa harga ini? Luna: Berapa harga ini? Lucas: Ini mahal. Luna: Ini mahal. Lucas: Great job! Now you can handle a pet shop visit in Malay. Luna: Thanks Lucas! I'll practice these before I go to the pet shop with my neighbour. Lucas: Perfect. That's it for today. Practice these phrases till we chat again. Luna: Bye bye from Learn Malay with Fexingo!
