- 0:00There is a phrase that I come back to over and over and over again in
- 0:05business life and on on my channel,
- 0:08in parenting, in real life, in friendships and relationships and homeschooling.
- 0:14And that phrase is you endorse what you tolerate
- 0:20every single thing that you let slide,
- 0:22every single thing that
- 0:25you leave a little, a little piece of your Jiminy Cricket
- 0:29on the table, not properly addressing every single time
- 0:35that you
- 0:37just let it go instead of addressing it.
- 0:41You are in actuality saying yes,
- 0:44you are endorsing it, and you are encouraging it to continue happening.
- 0:47And today that's what we're going to talk about.
- 0:49Welcome back to making Everyday Magic. My name is Shanna.
- 0:51If you are new here we are homeschooling my four.
- 0:55I have a
- 0:56current fourth grader and a current eighth grader.
- 0:59We have been homeschooling for nine years, so I have been a parent for.
- 1:02By the time you see this video, 14 years and married for so many more than that
- 1:08and I mean together for 17 years now. And,
- 1:13you know, a family member and a business owner and all the things and
- 1:17it is true over and over and over again,
- 1:20what you tolerate is what you and keeps.
- 1:23And today we are going to talk about.
- 1:27That if I would.
- 1:30But before we go any further please scroll down, hit the big red subscribe button,
- 1:33turn on that bell for notifications and give this video a thumbs up.
- 1:36As always, you can find me right on down in the comments or over on Instagram at
- 1:40Making Everyday Magic.
- 1:42And yeah, we're going to dive right in.
- 1:44And I'm really sorry because I know, at least for some of you,
- 1:48this is going to be
- 1:52uncomfortable.
- 1:53And I just I don't know that it is something that you maybe have thought of.
- 1:58You endorse what you tolerate.
- 2:04So every time that you don't, well,
- 2:09correct something in your homeschool,
- 2:12every time that you don't
- 2:14correct a behavior in your child,
- 2:18when you lack that consistency
- 2:20that I always tell you is so important.
- 2:24Everything that should
- 2:28be a firm boundary
- 2:30or no or should receive some pushback every time one of those doesn't,
- 2:37you are saying yes.
- 2:39You are not only allowing
- 2:41it, you are encouraging it.
- 2:44If you have young children or even a pet,
- 2:49you know that if you don't correct it, if you don't stop it, if you do not
- 2:57redirect the behavior immediately,
- 3:01it will continue.
- 3:02They will think it's okay
- 3:03and this is something that you have to learn the hard way.
- 3:07You can have all of the best of intentions every step of the way,
- 3:11but without being consistent,
- 3:14it will backfire on you.
- 3:17I want you to think about this with me.
- 3:21So if you have a homeschool
- 3:22that has a really hard time getting going in the morning,
- 3:26have you considered that it's not actually your morning routine?
- 3:29That's the problem.
- 3:30It may be your evening routine.
- 3:32So if you have a hard time getting your kids down,
- 3:36if you aren't firm with bed time, if you don't, maybe have a routine
- 3:40that allows your kids to relax and get into a good sleep
- 3:45by not addressing that on the front end,
- 3:49what you are actually doing is endorsing.
- 3:54You are signing yourself up for a hectic
- 3:57and crazy morning and so often so many of us are short sighted
- 4:01and we don't see that that permissiveness is actually our downfall.
- 4:08And it may seem easier in the moment to let him have five more minutes
- 4:11on the screen in the evening.
- 4:13It may seem harmless to let them stay up an extra hour,
- 4:17but what you're actually doing is yourself a disservice.
- 4:20Not just yourself, your child.
- 4:22They don't want to behave badly.
- 4:24They really don't.
- 4:25But sometimes they genuinely cannot help it.
- 4:27What you tolerate, you endorse.
- 4:31And I know as women you have had relationships where this has happened
- 4:35for example, myself in my previous life as a hairstylist,
- 4:40there are perpetually people who will be late
- 4:43or people who will no show.
- 4:46And if you tolerate that one time without a firm and severe pushback,
- 4:52then they start to think that it is okay.
- 4:56I had one client in particular who was no.
- 4:58All really bad for just not coming on a Saturday morning,
- 5:03just not coming because she didn't feel like it,
- 5:06or she had a hard time
- 5:06getting out of bed or things like that, and it wasn't a big deal to her,
- 5:10which is why so many hairstylists do have plans in place for cancellation.
- 5:15Now, do I get me wrong?
- 5:16There's always something happened. Yes. Something happens.
- 5:18Yeah, you got a flat tire and you totally couldn't make it.
- 5:19That's great. It's one. You get one usually.
- 5:23And then after that you need a deposit to rebook or
- 5:27you're not able to rebook or your hair
- 5:28says, let's you know that you are actually not the best fit together.
- 5:32And I have had to do all of those things because again,
- 5:36what you tolerate, you are endorsing.
- 5:39So if
- 5:41let's bring it back to parenting,
- 5:43you have a child who will be totally fine, okay.
- 5:47But as soon as you say no, they fall on
- 5:50crash course meltdown fits screaming and then in an effort
- 5:56to save face and embarrassment, you acquiesce to what they want.
- 6:00You've literally trained them.
- 6:03You've told them that you will tolerate everything up to a certain point,
- 6:08and then that point you give in, you are training them to treat you that way
- 6:14and that is a problem.
- 6:15Same thing with puppies, okay?
- 6:16They know if they scratch the door hard
- 6:18enough, you're going to give up and let them in.
- 6:19You have to be consistent and you have to be firm
- 6:21and you have to do it on the front end.
- 6:23Or else if you do slack off school today,
- 6:27who's to say you won't slack off school tomorrow?
- 6:29And then again and again and again.
- 6:30And before you know it, you're nowhere near where you want it to be.
- 6:34I've seen so many reports
- 6:36in the homeschool Facebook groups and the homeschool groups
- 6:40where people get to the end of the year and they find out
- 6:42their kid had actually done nothing, or learned nothing, or made no progress,
- 6:45or they let it slack a little and then it was impossible to get going again.
- 6:49What do you tolerate?
- 6:51You endorse. And this comes back to everything.
- 6:54Whether it's the cheeky comments from your mother in law or your mom,
- 6:57whether it is the cheeky comments that you get in the comment
- 7:01sections of your videos, what you tolerate, you endorse.
- 7:05And I can assure you, as somebody who has awesome
- 7:09RBF here, people don't do this with me.
- 7:14I do not tolerate it, I do not.
- 7:16I have a friend who is genuinely the nicest person on earth.
- 7:19I actually a lot of friends
- 7:20who are genuinely the nicest people on the face of the planet,
- 7:23and I try to tell them all the time like you are being taken advantage of.
- 7:26These people are no good for you.
- 7:28I need you just say no.
- 7:30Tell them. Blame it on me.
- 7:32I will take the fall and I am okay with that.
- 7:35What you tolerate, you endorse, and when you endorse it, it picks up speed
- 7:39and it gets bigger
- 7:40and more often and more terrible and more chaotic and more horrible.
- 7:44Please do yourself a favor and I.
- 7:47And there's another phrase that I do say very often.
- 7:49I'm doing later, Sean, a favor by standing firm now, by having your boundaries,
- 7:53by knowing what you will and will not tolerate.
- 7:55Now you are deciding what later,
- 7:58Sean it later you has to deal with when you cut it off.
- 8:01Now, when you are firm,
- 8:03when you have your boundaries, when you just don't take the shit.
- 8:07Because sometimes I just don't take the shit.
- 8:09You don't have to deal with that again later.
- 8:11People know, but you are not to be trifled with.
- 8:13And I assure you there is something on my face.
- 8:16Okay, I don't know what it is about my aura,
- 8:19but I do not take decisions and people do not bring me the shit, okay?
- 8:23What you tolerate, you endorse.
- 8:26Don't try to be a people pleaser.
- 8:28Please do not.
- 8:28Do not please as people please this person, okay?
- 8:31Please this person. And I'm not saying be a jerk.
- 8:32I'm not saying never help anybody. And I'm not saying things don't happen.
- 8:35What I am saying is don't become a doormat.
- 8:38Don't get stepped on, okay?
- 8:40You're going to keep your home school in order.
- 8:41You're going to keep your kids in order.
- 8:42You're going to keep your relationships in order.
- 8:44You're not going to tolerate these things.
- 8:47And this actually happens quite a lot.
- 8:49I hear this so much, and it is genuinely so sad.
- 8:54The behavior of spouses and relationships
- 8:58that women tolerate, I can not,
- 9:03I cannot understand and I don't care where you are in any situation.
- 9:06You can pivot and you can fix this right now.
- 9:08And don't tell me that you can't.
- 9:10Don't tell me that you're in too deep.
- 9:11Don't tell you that it's not possible.
- 9:13Do not.
- 9:15You can decide right now for tomorrow.
- 9:17You are not going to tolerate the things that you don't endorse,
- 9:20because you have decided that's not how you want to be treated,
- 9:23how you want to live, the things that you want to put up with.
- 9:25Okay, you're going to call it out.
- 9:27You're going to say what it is, and you're going to do it firmly,
- 9:31kindly, but firmly, and you
- 9:34are going to get the things that you do endorse.
- 9:38Okay?
- 9:39So if your kid is snippy to you,
- 9:41given the right people and you think, nope, we're addressing that right now.
- 9:45If your kid is screaming in the middle of somewhere, sit down next to me.
- 9:47I have done it so many times in the middle of a store, like, no,
- 9:51this is where we live now.
- 9:52Oh, is this embarrassing for you?
- 9:54Yeah. Me too. Here we go.
- 9:56I want you to think about the bigger picture.
- 9:59People are so short sighted when it comes to homeschool relationships,
- 10:03parenting, puppy training, everything.
- 10:05People are so short sighted right now.
- 10:07I can't right now. I'm too tired.
- 10:09What you tolerate, you endorse.
- 10:11And it is becoming increasingly problematic as a society.
- 10:16We don't tolerate this.
- 10:18I'm so sorry, but no, that behavior was abhorrent.
- 10:20You need to know
- 10:22we are not going to do it, okay?
- 10:25We are strong, proud parents.
- 10:27We are happy homeschoolers.
- 10:29We are raising the next generation of little humans,
- 10:32and we are not going to tolerate the things that we do not endorse, okay?
- 10:36We're going to use kind words, okay?
- 10:38We are going to put our hands on people.
- 10:40We're going to be respectful.
- 10:42We're going to learn how to go out into public because yes,
- 10:46the world is child friendly.
- 10:48If your child is made for the world, your child feral, okay.
- 10:51Your child has never had a curbing of their behavior.
- 10:54Now, don't get me wrong, I am not saying that you can control them
- 10:56because you absolutely cannot.
- 10:58But you can tell when the parent is trying and when the parent is not. Why?
- 11:02Because what they tolerate, they endorse.
- 11:04That's why when you're around people with bad behavior, what happens?
- 11:07What happens? What do you see?
- 11:10You see that what is tolerated is what is endorsed.
- 11:13And what is endorsed is what becomes habit, what becomes behavior,
- 11:18what becomes personality types.
- 11:20We aren't going to do that because we have one.
- 11:24A debt to society, right?
- 11:26We owe society humans who can fit into it, one we owe those humans a society.
- 11:32We want them to fit into. Two.
- 11:35And we also owe it to ourselves to be around people
- 11:38who we don't have to tolerate.
- 11:40I hope that you found any of this helpful, entertaining, or informative.
- 11:45If you did, please scroll down.
- 11:46Hit that big red subscribe
- 11:47button, turn on the bell for notifications and give this video a thumbs up.
- 11:50I want to hear from you.
- 11:52What is the situation that you decided you no longer tolerate, or a situation
- 11:55that you do not tolerate?
- 11:57What was the outcome?
- 11:58Is it homeschool?
- 11:58Is it relationship? Is it marriage? Is it?
- 12:03I don't know, one of those Negro friends.
- 12:05Is that somebody trying to get one over on you with the mechanic?
- 12:08What is it? Is it in your homeschool?
- 12:10Did you learn that
- 12:11you had to change something and then you got the outcome you wanted?
- 12:15Did you learn that you were letting it slide so much?
- 12:18Maybe you're giving your kids snacks all day and then they don't eat dinner.
- 12:21Maybe that's it. Maybe just add that simple.
- 12:23What was the thing that made you realize
- 12:27that what you tolerate, you endorse,
- 12:29and you were not endorsing the outcome that you wanted?
- 12:32What is it? I would love to hear it down in the comments.
- 12:35No shame we've all done it.
- 12:37And again, it's a lesson you can only learn the hard way, I assure you.
- 12:41Next video after this one is going to be separating
- 12:44idealism from realism in your homeschool, because those are very different things.
- 12:49And in that space between them is where our homeschool guilt is.
- 12:53Let's thrive, grows.
- 12:56I guess.
- 13:00For the
- 13:03other.
