Speaker 1: You run with the right people.
• 1:06
Speaker 1: You run alongside people that are like-minded.
• 1:10
Speaker 1: You link arms with people that are heading in the same direction.
• 1:14
Speaker 1: It's not enough to flee youthful lust, but we pursue all these other things with others who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
• 1:23
Speaker 1: Right Blessed is the man who walks, not in the counsel of the wicked.
• 1:27
Speaker 1: You become like-minded to those who you hang out with.
• 1:31
Speaker 1: So if you are going to hang out with people that are just entrepreneurs and that's all they're thinking about, you will somehow kind of catch that it will not so much be taught as much as it is caught.
• 1:43
Speaker 1: So we want to hang out with people that have good morals, because bad company corrupts good morals.
• 1:49
Speaker 1: We want to run our race and run it well.
• 1:54
Speaker 1: Surround yourself with people that you think are running the race and running well.
• 1:59
Speaker 1: So run with the right people and run from wrong places.
• 2:02
  Speaker 1: Good, right.
• 2:03
Speaker 1: So you find yourself inside of a place where you typically wouldn't be.
• 2:07
Speaker 1: If you're going out to lunch with your pastor, well then you don't need to really be hanging out at that place as it is.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: You have a problem with alcohol.
• 2:15
Speaker 1: Don't go hang out and have your Devo in the corner of the bar right.
• 2:20
Speaker 1: You don't need to be winning people for Christ in the bar if you have a problem with drinking with drinking.
• 2:31
Speaker 2: There's a reason why my voice is all jacked up.
• 2:35
Speaker 2: Ray made me do something that I did, which was wonderful, and beautiful a second time over.
• 2:40
Speaker 3: But we won't talk about that today, friends, Because I have a question for Ray Comfort Ray it's a simple question.
• 2:45
  Speaker 2: It's not complicated.
• 2:46
  Speaker 2: It's not complex's a simple question.
• 2:48
Speaker 2: It's not complicated, it's not complex, it's not intricate, it's not involved.
• 2:52
Speaker 2: Simple question Did you or did you?
• 3:02
Speaker 4: not ask us for a $12,500,000 watch for your retirement.

Speaker 4: I can't put the batteries into it.
• 4:01
Speaker 4: I just can't watch when the battery runs out.
• 4:10
Speaker 2: So one-time use that whole segment could be a joke.
• 4:11
Speaker 2: It's all in satire, I think.
• 4:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, whatever, but there was.
• 4:13
Speaker 5: You guys remember what was the context?
• 4:14
Speaker 5: He saw somebody wearing it.
• 4:15
Speaker 5: I think he just came across it.
• 4:17
Speaker 5: Why were you searching for expensive watches?
• 4:19
Speaker 4: What's the most expensive watch you can buy, and I thought that much.
• 4:23
Speaker 2: Okay, how stupid is that?
• 4:24
  Speaker 2: Isn?
• 4:29
Speaker 2: Is that, isn't that $12 million?
• 4:30
Speaker 2: This tells the time Walking around with a stupid thing on your wrist that you could crack.
• 4:33
Speaker 4: You're going to get robbed if you go in public wearing a diamond watch.
• 4:36
Speaker 2: I've always wondered that, even about women that have big diamond rocks on their rings.
• 4:41
Speaker 2: You see some of those.
• 4:42
Speaker 2: You could tell that's hundreds of thousands of dollars.
• 4:45
Speaker 5: Mark, how much was your nose ring?
• 4:47
Speaker 2: Tell us about your nose ring, mark Mark?
• 4:51
Speaker 2: What would it take?
• 4:53
Speaker 1: for me to get a nose ring.
• 4:54
Speaker 1: You couldn't pay me, come on.
• 4:57
  Speaker 5: There's always a number.
• 4:58
  Speaker 2: No no, no.
• 5:00
Speaker 5: Feet starving children $10 million, nope $500 million In perpetuity, we'd be able to give away every gospel track for free.
• 5:10
Speaker 1: I would have to wear a nose ring forever.
• 5:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, every gospel track for free With a chain connected to your earrings there's no amount of money, and your belly button ring there's no amount of money.
• 5:23
Speaker 4: I went as to a guy who had a big ring.
• 5:25
Speaker 4: It was called the Bull.
• 5:26
Speaker 4: It was the name of the guy.
• 5:27
Speaker 4: He was a motorbike gang.
• 5:28
Speaker 4: I was just so tempted to put my finger in the ring and pull him.
• 5:32
  Speaker 2: I didn't.
• 5:32
Speaker 2: But the thing is, Ray, is that I wouldn't put that past you for a second?
• 5:36
Speaker 2: Ray, tell us about what you've done to people's shirts.
• 5:40
Speaker 3: Ray Well, no no.
• 5:41
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 5:43
Speaker 4: I've actually stopped, I've almost stopped doing that stop almost.
• 5:49
Speaker 2: I've almost stopped doing that.
• 5:49
  Speaker 2: There's a reason why I'm almost here.
• 5:50
Speaker 4: Yeah, almost I'm checking to make sure that's my snap that I'm wearing church with dome, church shirts with domes on them.
• 5:55
Speaker 4: I'd just go like that and that open up.
• 5:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, the snaps button.
• 5:59
Speaker 2: Snap, yeah, don't ever wear it.
• 6:00
Speaker 2: You understand that a lot of those shirts, like the top button is usually a regular button.
• 6:05
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah well, I but the guy came to the ambassadors Academy and I did my shirt thing and it ripped his shirt and cost me 50 bucks to get it.
• 6:13
Speaker 3: Why would you why?
• 6:14
Speaker 2: I don't know, but didn't you observe to make sure, like a thousand percent?
• 6:18
Speaker 4: No, no, no, no my brain works after my hand.
• 6:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, we know You're telling us that, like you're informing us of that, nobody is surprised.

  Speaker 3: I came back.
• 6:28
  Speaker 3: Consequences.
• 6:31
Speaker 2: Con with sequences, con with sequences, with a lot of sequences that destroyed my life Do people understand what we're even talking about with the buttons.
• 6:40
Speaker 2: Maybe you should explain it just a little bit.
• 6:43
Speaker 2: The snap Button snaps on a shirt.
• 6:47
Speaker 1: Ray goes up and he sees somebody wearing a shirt with buttons.
• 6:49
  Speaker 2: There's a guy, yeah, thankfully.
• 6:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's a good call, ray.
• 6:55
Speaker 5: So there is discernment.
• 6:56
Speaker 5: That was a very important thing, so there is discernment.
• 6:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't want the internet to go silver and then what does he do?
• 7:01
Speaker 2: He goes up and he just like that and they open up.
• 7:04
Speaker 2: He rips it off, he rips off the buttons.
• 7:06
Speaker 2: But why, ray, why do you do that?
• 7:07
Speaker 4: It's like opening doors and stuff like that you just see a door, you gotta open it.
• 7:11

• 11:21
  Speaker 5: A chronologist.
• 11:23
  Speaker 4: A chronophobic.
• 11:25
Speaker 2: That would be fear.
• 11:26
  Speaker 2: Chronophobia.
• 11:27
Speaker 5: Obsessed with time, no chronolid would be, fear Chronophobic no no, it's obsessed with time.
• 11:31
  Speaker 5: No chronolidiot.
• 11:32
  Speaker 2: What Chronolidiot, chronolidiot.
• 11:35
Speaker 1: You guys need to learn to be on time, Because we were all on time except for one of us.
• 11:38
  Speaker 2: Excuse me.
• 11:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, you just got here and left.
• 11:40
Speaker 2: Ray was late, oscar was late, you, by the grace of time today.
• 11:45
Speaker 1: One of us disappeared, though, which makes them no longer on time.
• 11:48
Speaker 2: We have the rule.
• 11:49
Speaker 2: We're all here at the time we're supposed to be.
• 11:51
Speaker 2: We're here for a little bit If someone needs to go use a restroom.
• 11:54
Speaker 5: Listener to fill you in on this great debate.
• 11:56
  Speaker 5: Basically easy.
• 11:58
Speaker 5: What he'll do so that he's on time is he'll show up, but then at 10.01, we're supposed to start at 10.
• 12:05
Speaker 5: So what will happen is at 10.01, he will get up and leave the room for five minutes.
• 12:10
Speaker 2: Excuse me, I do not go for five and it happens on rare occasion and it's the right way, because I make the rules.
• 12:15
Speaker 4: You're so fanatical when you're traveling.
• 12:17
Speaker 2: You go to the airport two weeks early, it's true, much earlier than that, ray.
• 12:21
Speaker 2: All right enough Time for a classy comment.
• 12:24
Speaker 2: This is from Benjamin Buslovik.
• 12:27
Speaker 2: He probably was at the Slavic conference Oscar Ray.
• 12:31
Speaker 2: Thank you so, so, so Three, so's Much, So-so, he's so-so.
• 12:36
  Speaker 1: Ray is so-so.
• 12:42
Speaker 2: For the work you've done over the years and for the work you continue to do for the ministry and in the streets.
• 12:43
Speaker 2: But above all, I thank God for the work he has accomplished and continues to accomplish through Living Waters.
• 12:47
Speaker 2: I thank God for the work he has accomplished and continues to accomplish through Living Waters.
• 12:51
Speaker 2: If this ministry didn't exist, I'm not sure I'd be a Christian, because my dad wouldn't have gotten saved at the Harvest Conference you and Kirk had in Tennessee in 2006.
• 12:59
Speaker 2: That's another story that I hope to tell you and the guys in person in a couple of months when me and a friend will be coming out.
• 13:07
Speaker 2: By the way, after my dad got saved me, my dad and my brother met you, ray.
• 13:11
Speaker 2: I was only like six so I can't remember most of the encounter, but I do remember and still can't figure out how you made your finger glow red.
• 13:20
  Speaker 4: Oh you're slamming a door.
• 13:22
Speaker 2: Anyway, I love one, two, three, four, five O's the podcast.
• 13:29
Speaker 2: Didn't realize I could relate with someone.
• 13:32
Speaker 2: Oh, he meant to say podcast, that's what it was.
• 13:36
Speaker 2: Didn't realize I could relate with somebody I never met until I now relate more.
• 13:40
  Speaker 2: No wait, what?
• 13:41
Speaker 2: Didn't realize I couldn't relate with somebody I never met until I heard Easy's character on the radio.
• 13:47
Speaker 2: Then I found out he doesn't like black coffee.
• 13:49
Speaker 2: So now I relate more with Oscar.
• 13:51
Speaker 2: I like this guy Genius.
• 13:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, all jokes aside, I've grown so much from the podcast and pray that there are many more to come.
• 13:59
Speaker 2: Easy, it's an answer to my prayers that you're feeling better and back on the show giving the well-known hey friends, and yes, your voice is superb, yeah.
• 14:08
  Speaker 3: We well-known.
• 14:08
Speaker 3: Hey, friends, and yes, your voice is superb.
• 14:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're friends again.
• 14:10
Speaker 4: Do you remember I wrote back to him what I said?
• 14:12
  Speaker 2: What.
• 14:13
Speaker 4: I really love that joke that you made when you said he's his voice is superb.
• 14:15
  Speaker 2: That's right Now.
• 14:16
Speaker 4: I remember it was really funny.
• 14:18
Speaker 2: Anyway, I love you guys.
• 14:18
Speaker 2: I hope and pray that me and my friends make it out there as planned.
• 14:22
Speaker 2: I'll try to you in Christ.
• 14:22
Speaker 2: My brothers, benjamin, benji Thank you, benji, he met you when he was six.
• 14:30
Speaker 5: That means he's a little bit taller and you're still the same size.
• 14:33
Speaker 5: I remember looking down on Ray at six.
• 14:37
Speaker 2: All right, friends, and now radically revolutionary resource.
• 14:40
Speaker 2: This podcast is brought to you by the Evidence Study Bible.
• 14:44
Speaker 2: Ah, that's a curveball because I usually throw it in all the time, but it's my focus today, Oscar, the Evidence Study Bible.
• 14:52
Speaker 2: Mark, it's a wonderful resource, is it not it?
• 14:54
  Speaker 1: is.
• 14:55
Speaker 1: It is, I think, the best resource we carry.
• 14:58
Speaker 1: You know, we carry a lot of books, a lot of tracks, a lot of curriculums, a lot of things, and I think that the foundational piece for the ministry is the Evidence Study Bible, because inside there you're going to get a little bit of all the worlds of Ray's books.
• 15:13
Speaker 1: You're going to get the tracks that are found inside there, memorable quotes, and just contextually things are brought together.
• 15:19

• 16:38
Speaker 2: We won't say how many thousands, but thousands of thousands.
• 16:41
  Speaker 3: All right friends.
• 16:43
Speaker 2: Today how to guard against the temptations of the world.
• 16:49
Speaker 2: I wish you could somehow condense temptation into like an object, dissect it and like understand it, because, man, it's such a reality.
• 17:03
Speaker 2: I mean, when you think about the element of temptation, to me, elephant of temptation, good way to put it right, it's a big element of temptation, elephant of temptation.
• 17:09
Speaker 2: Good way to put it right it's a big boy, a big fat elephant of temptation.
• 17:13
Speaker 2: Wants to sit on you.
• 17:13
Speaker 2: To me, it's as real as the law of gravity.
• 17:18
Speaker 2: It's just such a reality, and as Christians, it is the constant element that we are battling against and fighting against, and so I'm really excited to talk about this today because, you know, we're all together.
• 17:36
Speaker 2: I was talking to a brother the other day and I shared something with him about something that you know I had gone through and the others have gone through, and this caused him to open up to me in a I mean, he said, I haven't told this to anyone.
• 17:54
Speaker 2: He said but what you just shared has kind of given me that compulsion to share this with you, because I realized that I'm not the only one, and so I think so what do you say?
• 18:03
Speaker 5: I don't know what did Mark say?
• 18:06
  Speaker 2: I don't understand.
• 18:07
Speaker 2: So we, so we're all in this together, friends those of you that are listening I can't believe I said friends in a normal voice, friends, but we're all in this together and my hope from today's episode is really to dispense encouragement, to remind believers that you're not alone and that we battle this together.
• 18:27
Speaker 2: So, temptations, oscar, I don't know, say something.
• 18:31
Speaker 5: I love the way you put it.
• 18:32
Speaker 5: I think you know I was just talking to somebody at the conference that I was at and he came to me and he, with tears in his eyes, confessed sin that he's been struggling with.
• 18:42
Speaker 5: And he was like I'm so afraid to tell anybody about this and I don't know what to do.
• 18:46
Speaker 5: And I, he was like what can I do to stop overcome this sin that I've been struggling, struggling with since I was 13, 14 years old.
• 18:53
Speaker 5: And I told him, man, that I said satan wants you alone in this.
• 18:59
Speaker 5: He does not want you to share this with your friends.
• 19:02
Speaker 5: He doesn't want your pastor to know.
• 19:05
Speaker 5: The lord tells you that if you confess your sins, you will be forgiven.
• 19:10
Speaker 5: That's not that he's holding back grace, but he's holding back a healing balm, or I should say you are holding back a healing balm from yourself to invite others in.
• 19:19
Speaker 5: And so you make a great point, which is to just simply recognize to be a Christian is to be tempted by sin.
• 19:23
Speaker 5: Those two things go hand in hand is to be tempted by sin.
• 19:26
Speaker 5: Those two things go hand in hand.
• 19:27
Speaker 5: Jesus himself was tempted and, of course, did not sin.
• 19:32
Speaker 5: I love John Owen saying which is temptation, is anything that lures us from obedience?
• 19:40
Speaker 5: The devil wants you to not participate in obedience you are not alone in that and to your point, man.
• 19:51
Speaker 2: we fight temptation together.
• 19:52
  Speaker 2: Yeah, amen, yeah.
• 19:53
Speaker 2: Ray Oscar mentioned Christ in the wilderness and the temptations he faced from Satan.
• 19:58
Speaker 2: What was the key to him overcoming Satan's temptations?
• 20:04
Speaker 2: Ray in the wilderness, the.
• 20:05
  Speaker 4: Iron Dome.
• 20:06
Speaker 4: Yes, israel's got an Iron Dome and I'm fascinated by this very sophisticated radar system that detects and neutralizes incoming missiles.
• 20:18
Speaker 4: And for the Christian, the Dome, the Iron Dome is the fear of the Lord.
• 20:22
Speaker 4: When Potiphar started, potiphar's wife started sending missiles towards Joseph, started part of his wife started sending missiles towards Joseph.
• 20:29
Speaker 4: It was the fear of the Lord that caused him to run, and that's what we need.
• 20:33
Speaker 4: An Martin said you can only get in the realm of deliberate sin when you get out of the realm of the fear of God.
• 20:39
Speaker 4: I'm going to repeat that because it's so good.
• 20:42
Speaker 4: You can only get into the realm of deliberate sin when you get out of the realm of the fear of God.
• 20:48
Speaker 4: Jesus said watch lest you enter into temptation.
• 20:51
Speaker 4: He said that to his disciples and then he said this.
• 20:53
Speaker 4: He said watch lest you enter into temptation.
• 20:55
Speaker 4: The spirit, indeed, is willing, but the flesh is weak, and that's the key to understand your flesh.
• 21:02
  Speaker 4: It's weak.
• 21:02
Speaker 4: So you need the iron dome, you need to cultivate the fear of the Lord.
• 21:06
Speaker 4: And I liken it to when you're reading, innocently reading, some article and there's a pop that comes in and you've got a little X in the corner that's the size of a microchip and you've got to touch it with your finger and if you don't, you're into the site, an area you don't want to go to.
• 21:21
Speaker 4: It just takes you straight to it.
• 21:23
Speaker 4: And that's what the wiles of the devil is like.
• 21:25
Speaker 4: What the wiles of the devil is like.
• 21:26
Speaker 4: You just instantly go, phew, in your mind Some filthy thought, and you've got a tiny X that you've got to touch.
• 21:32
Speaker 4: There's no temptation taken you, which is common to man.
• 21:35
Speaker 4: God's faithful and has made a way of escape.
• 21:38
Speaker 4: That's the little X that you've got to touch so you can get out of it.
• 21:41
Speaker 4: And so what you've got to do is watch and pray lest you enter into that temptation, and the way to be always ready to touch that X is to have the fear of God in your heart always, and that's what we see with Jesus Easy.
• 21:55
Speaker 5: I have a question for you.
• 21:56
Speaker 5: He mentions the fear of the Lord, but in addition to that, every time Jesus is tempted, he quotes scripture.
• 22:04
Speaker 5: How important is scripture memorization for us in fighting?
• 22:08
Speaker 2: temptation, huge right, psalm 119.
• 22:12
Speaker 2: Flavorful your word have I hidden in my heart that I may not sin against you?
• 22:18
Speaker 2: How can a young man keep his way pure by keeping it according to your word?
• 22:23
Speaker 2: I'm telling you guys, there's no discipline that has been more helpful to me in times of temptation than having memorized scripture.
• 22:34
Speaker 2: And again, what you're doing is you're loading yourself up to give the Holy Spirit an opportunity to activate God's word at a given moment, in a given instance.
• 22:47
Speaker 2: That's what I love about it, because that's what God does.
• 22:49
Speaker 2: It's His word and he brings it back to heart and mind.
• 22:52
Speaker 2: I'm not waiting for an esoterical word from the Lord.
• 22:56
Speaker 2: I'm not waiting for an audible voice.
• 22:58
Speaker 2: It's His word, hidden in my heart, that the Spirit activates and that he uses to guard me in those moments.
• 23:05
Speaker 4: So that makes the enemy tremble, but also reminds us of the promise that's in the Word yeah.
• 23:10
Speaker 4: So it's got a dual purpose.
• 23:11
Speaker 2: Yeah and Oscar, that's what Jesus did, right?
• 23:13
Speaker 2: I mean, satan hit him and he kept hitting him with the Word.
• 23:16
Speaker 2: Right, I mean he hits him with.
• 23:17
Speaker 2: You know, turn these stones into red.
• 23:19
  Speaker 2: Jesus was fasting.
• 23:19
Speaker 2: Man shall not live by bread alone.
• 23:21
Speaker 4: I like the way you said hit him with the Word Likens God's word to a hammer.
• 23:25
Speaker 3: It smashes the rock.
• 23:27
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 23:28
  Speaker 2: And sword.
• 23:29
  Speaker 3: Yes.
• 23:29
Speaker 2: It smashes the sword.
• 23:30
Speaker 2: Good point, yeah, so anyway, he just kept hitting him with the word and um, and that's what we need Mark Ray mentioned.
• 23:40
Speaker 2: He quoted, but I want us to give it context watch and pray lest you enter into temptation.
• 23:46
Speaker 2: This is Jesus in Gethsemane, when he kept coming to the disciples and the context was prayer, because he said watch with me and pray.
• 23:56
Speaker 2: And three times he kept going at them.
• 23:58
Speaker 2: They're knocked out of sleep.
• 23:59
Speaker 2: Watch and pray lest you enter into temptation.
• 24:01
  Speaker 2: Prayer.
• 24:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, so, contextually, what you're talking about is that you're always in prayer, right?
• 24:07
Speaker 1: So if I'm talking with God, it's hard to talk with the world, right?
• 24:11
Speaker 1: You can't flirt with the world and be faithful to the Word, right?
• 24:15
Speaker 1: So if I'm in fellowship with God, it's hard to be in fellowship with the world.
• 24:19
Speaker 1: So if I'm continually in prayer like Ray is always in prayer, always- P-R-A-Y-E-R Ray is always in prayer.
• 24:29
  Speaker 2: Continue, Mark.
• 24:33
Speaker 1: You can't enjoy a world in which you've already been dead to right.
• 24:38
Speaker 1: So I'm dead to the things of the world.
• 24:40
Speaker 1: So when you try to engage in those things like it's gonna come up short.
• 24:45
  Speaker 1: It always will.
• 24:46
Speaker 1: So when you are in fellowship with God in prayer and I love it, paul Washer, when he in talking about prayer, he said you know, the apostles never asked Jesus to teach us how to preach.
• 24:56
Speaker 1: Maybe they did, but it's not recorded that they did.
• 24:58
Speaker 1: It was teach us how to pray, because there was something about the communion that Jesus had with the Father that made them covet that relationship.
• 25:09
Speaker 1: So prayer is, I mean, the army of God.
• 25:13
Speaker 1: It marches forward on their knees.
• 25:14
Speaker 1: We'll never be able to do more than our prayer life.
• 25:17
Speaker 1: Pray through all things, right, it's not like here's my agenda for the day.
• 25:24
Speaker 1: Now I ask that you would just bless my agenda.
• 25:26
Speaker 1: No, you are continually in prayer.
• 25:28
Speaker 1: And remember when Jesus came down from the Mount of Transfiguration and they came across this demon-possessed person and the apostles are saying, hey, we try to cast out the demons, but they wouldn't go.
• 25:39
Speaker 1: And Jesus said this kind only goes out through prayer and fasting.
• 25:43
Speaker 1: He's not saying go out and pray, go out and fast, come back and then you cast out the demons.
• 25:48
Speaker 1: No, it was understood that they were already fasted up, that they were already prayed up.
• 25:54
Speaker 1: It's like when you fast not if you fast, but when you fast.
• 25:59
Speaker 1: It's like when you pray.
• 26:01
Speaker 1: No, you are going to go throughout your day today and you will pray.
• 26:05
Speaker 1: If your mind is going to wander, it might as well wander through the imagination of how great God is and then enter into communication with Him, who can do anything he wants according to His nature.
• 26:16
Speaker 1: You've been called into fellowship with a God who knows how to make a butterfly brain right.
• 26:20
Speaker 1: This blows our brains up, so prayer absolutely Amen.
• 26:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, you think of Ephesians 6, 18 to 20.
• 26:28
Speaker 2: Praying always, with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, being watchful to this end, with all prayer and supplication for all the saints, and that continual communion with the Lord, I mean.
• 26:44
Speaker 2: Jesus often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.
• 26:46
Speaker 2: He'd spend all night in prayer, communion with the Lord and recognizing.
• 26:53
Speaker 2: I love in James 2, it talks about how Elijah was a man with a nature of ours, but he prayed earnestly that it would not rain and did not rain, and I love the fact that it pointed to the reality that he had the same nature as us.
• 27:05
Speaker 2: He was just a man.
• 27:06
Speaker 2: In other words, is what it means.
• 27:07
Speaker 2: He's like you Don't put Elijah up here Just a man.
• 27:10
Speaker 2: He prayed and God moved and answered, and so we need to have that communion with the Lord.
• 27:15
Speaker 2: Why are you looking at me, ray?
• 27:17
Speaker 4: I was just wondering if it's God's will that it didn't reign for three years, or Elijah was just being annoying.
• 27:21
Speaker 4: I'm just going to wreck the whole place.
• 27:24
Speaker 4: I think it's interesting to note that Jesus was led by the spirit of the wilderness and yet he said in the Lord's prayer, for one of our prayer, the Lord's prayer, lead us not into temptation.
• 27:36
Speaker 4: And then, following that is, deliver us from evil.
• 27:39
Speaker 4: The two go hand in hand Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
• 27:43
  Speaker 4: I think it's very noteworthy.
• 27:45
Speaker 4: You realize the word devil is four-fifths evil.
• 27:51
  Speaker 5: It's just got a D in front.
• 27:55
Speaker 4: So the D ruins it all no give place to the devil and you give place to evil.
• 27:59
Speaker 4: So you don't want to give place to the devil and you give place to evil.
• 28:00
Speaker 4: So you don't want to give place to the devil because evil comes with it.
• 28:04
Speaker 1: Capture the thought before the thought captures you.
• 28:07
Speaker 4: Yes, don't make a nest in your bird.
• 28:08
Speaker 4: Don't make a nest in the bird.
• 28:10
Speaker 4: You sent us that video yesterday.
• 28:12
  Speaker 4: I sent it.
• 28:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, that was so good.
• 28:15
Speaker 2: Friends, we're talking about Luther's quote.
• 28:16
Speaker 2: That made us laugh, you can't keep a bird from flying over your head, but you can keep it from nesting in your hair.
• 28:21
Speaker 2: And this guy had a.
• 28:22
Speaker 2: His hair looked kind of nasty.
• 28:25
Speaker 4: It was a young guy with nice thick hair.
• 28:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, but a bird actually got in his hair and was making a nest out of it and another guy was trying to shoo it and it was like trying to peck at his hand and stuff.
• 28:35
Speaker 4: So it kills Luther's quote, as you said, I know.
• 28:37
Speaker 4: Speaking of unclean thoughts.
• 28:39
Speaker 4: You can't stop birds flying over your head, but you can stop them from making a nesting in your hair until you see this guy on the video.
• 28:47
Speaker 5: And then, ultimately, what we're doing is we're talking about spiritual disciplines that help us with temptation.
• 28:51
Speaker 5: We've already talked about scripture memorization.
• 28:53
Speaker 5: We've talked about prayer.
• 28:54
Speaker 5: Another important one is fasting.
• 28:56
Speaker 5: We see Jesus do this himself.
• 28:58
Speaker 5: Important one is fasting.
• 28:59
Speaker 5: We see Jesus do this himself, and fasting was formerly a very common, regular rhythm practice for the early Christians that I sense we've lost an element of it in our day today.
• 29:12
Speaker 5: So many people don't fast, and those who do might do it on very rare occasions.
• 29:16
  Speaker 5: And why fast?
• 29:18
Speaker 5: Certainly it draws you closer to the Lord in dependence at that moment.
• 29:22
Speaker 5: But something that Timothy Keller points out is that fasting also prepares you for temptation, he says.
• 29:28
Speaker 5: Fasting trains believers to resist natural and lawful urges so that when they face illicit promptings they can say no.
• 29:38
Speaker 5: In other words, when we willingly participate in neglecting ourselves of things that bring us joy, that isn't sin.
• 29:45
Speaker 5: What we're doing is we're building up a spiritual muscle to say no to when the devil is tempting us with sin.
• 29:53
Speaker 2: That's so good, yeah, building that spiritual muscle.
• 29:56
Speaker 2: And that's missing from Christianity today Not the magazine, but from Christianity today we do fast.
• 30:05
Speaker 4: This is a lawsuit.
• 30:08
Speaker 2: No, but we have this aversion to exercise.
• 30:14
Speaker 2: I had a young man come up to me in Louisiana after I spoke at the men's event and he was asking me about wanting to engage in certain spiritual disciplines he's like.
• 30:24
Speaker 2: But I'm worried, is that legalism?
• 30:26
Speaker 2: And I said isn't it interesting that anytime we hear about anyone accomplishing great things in the world, when we hear about an athlete oh, kobe Bryant, he would do this, that Oscar.
• 30:38
  Speaker 5: Navarro.
• 30:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, steph Curry, he does this before practice and after and all this stuff.
• 30:44
Speaker 2: You know, we hear about actors that do method acting and they're living that role out.
• 30:49
Speaker 2: We never look and say, oh no, that's overboard, bro.
• 30:51
Speaker 2: We go, wow, that's awesome.
• 30:53
Speaker 2: Dedicated, devoted, anytime it comes to the things of the faith.
• 30:57
Speaker 2: Oh, bro, you know, relax, brother, you don't want to get too little, Don't be so heavenly minded.
• 31:02
Speaker 4: you're no earthly use.
• 31:03
  Speaker 4: Yeah, brother.
• 31:04
Speaker 2: Brother Guys, this is ridiculous.
• 31:07
Speaker 5: I want to know why the bad Christian always says, brother, yeah, it's always the bad Christians.
• 31:11
Speaker 2: No, no, it's so sad I had someone one day say to me hey, is it wrong that I say?
• 31:15
Speaker 4: brother, you guys make fun of it.
• 31:16
Speaker 4: No, no, it's not wrong.
• 31:17
  Speaker 4: It's wonderful.
• 31:17
Speaker 4: It just means you forgot the person's name.
• 31:19
Speaker 2: Hello brother, Anyway, but we have to ditch this jive, you guys.
• 31:26
  Speaker 2: This is ridiculous.
• 31:27
Speaker 2: Ditch this jive, this jive of like discouraging Christians from disciplining themselves for godliness.
• 31:34
Speaker 2: Look, I was thinking about this today Every time, not every time, but in so many of the contexts where you see Paul mentioning salvation by grace, through faith.
• 31:45
Speaker 2: Right, you have Ephesians 2, 8 and 9.
• 31:48
Speaker 2: By grace you've been saved, through faith.
• 31:49
Speaker 2: That not of yourselves, it's a gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
• 31:52
Speaker 2: And then he says what?
• 31:53
Speaker 2: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
• 32:02
Speaker 2: You see, in Titus 2, where he's talking about the grace of God that has appeared, bringing salvation to all men has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, teaching us to deny ungodliness and all worldly lusts.
• 32:14
Speaker 2: We should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present age, right.
• 32:18
Speaker 2: And then he goes on.
• 32:19
Speaker 2: But then he says to remind those who have believed in God to be careful to engage in good works.
• 32:25
Speaker 2: These things are, oh no, he set aside for himself his own special people zealous for good works.
• 32:30
Speaker 2: He just said the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
• 32:35
Speaker 2: So we're saved by grace.
• 32:36
Speaker 2: And then he says that he wants his own people zealous for good works.
• 32:39
Speaker 2: So we're saved by grace.
• 32:40
Speaker 2: And then he says that he wants his own people zealous for good works.
• 32:41
Speaker 2: Then in chapter 3, for we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.
• 32:47
Speaker 2: But when the kindness and the love of God, our Savior, toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness, which we have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us.
• 32:54
Speaker 2: Then at the end he says remind those who have believed in God to be careful to engage in good works.
• 33:05
Speaker 2: These things are good and profitable to men.
• 33:06
Speaker 2: Highlights the grace of God, connects it to we should do good works.
• 33:07
Speaker 2: So, man, if we can connect with that, as Christians we're saved by grace.
• 33:09
Speaker 2: Nothing we can do Clothed in the righteousness of Christ, 100% independent of us.
• 33:13
Speaker 2: But if we're saved, be zealous for good works, Engage in good works, Do good works.
• 33:23
Speaker 4: You know there's batteries in your flashlight because you can see the light shine.
• 33:26
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 33:27
  Speaker 2: Ooh Ooh.
• 33:27
Speaker 2: I mean, who came up with that?
• 33:30
Speaker 2: Ray, I did Try to stay humble.
• 33:33
Speaker 4: Try to stay humble Ray.
• 33:34
Speaker 4: Well, by not saying no, it wasn't me, that's pride.
• 33:38
Speaker 5: I would, yeah, I mean, I would say to that person like we resist because we are becoming like Christ.
• 33:45
Speaker 5: Romans 8, 29 says that those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be that phrase to be.
• 33:51
  Speaker 5: Why, like?
• 33:52
Speaker 5: Why did God predestine To be conformed to the image of his son?
• 33:57
Speaker 5: In other words, this isn't about moralism.
• 33:59
Speaker 5: This is about transformation Through the power of the Holy Spirit.
• 34:03
Speaker 5: We become more like Christ as we point our lives to Christ and ultimately, resisting temptations and spiritual disciplines is about pointing our life to Christ.
• 34:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, Mark, I'd love you to touch on this.
• 34:19
Speaker 2: We always highlight legalism, which is a reality, and we've talked about it ad nauseum on the program here, because it happens.
• 34:28
Speaker 4: It had to be a good name for a podcast ad nauseum.
• 34:32
Speaker 2: I've never had anyone quote me more than the one time on the podcast when I said leave people alone, man, or something like that in terms of legalism.
• 34:40
Speaker 2: But, mark, don't you think there's a flip side of that, where you have maybe we can call it antinomianism where people give believers a guilt trip, who want to not engage in certain things?
• 34:53
Speaker 2: I mean, who does that in the world?
• 34:56
Speaker 2: Man, I quit smoking.
• 34:57
Speaker 2: Oh no, relax, bro.
• 34:58
Speaker 2: No one does that.
• 35:01
Speaker 2: If Christian says, hey, man, I stopped watching TV because it's bad for me, hey, dude, relax, you can watch TV, brother, it's fine, right?
• 35:07
Speaker 1: I mean, don't we need to let people Let people walk, let people be people, let people walk with God and have their walks before God.
• 35:15
Speaker 1: My wife sent a text to our family text which is called the Ohana text for family and she said that she's given up all social media for a month, so she's not going to see all the interactions of the kids and everybody has to do.
• 35:30
Speaker 1: But what does she desire to do?
• 35:31
Speaker 1: She wants to now fill that time with reading some books that she's behind on to Oscar's tip of the hat, because he's always reading books and encouraging people to do so.
• 35:42
Speaker 1: What do we do?
• 35:44
Speaker 1: We didn't come back and say but mom, you're going to miss out on so many different excursions that we're having all the different outings that we are partaking in.
• 35:54
Speaker 1: Legalism, I think, is, by and large, pause and think through this, birthed from the idea, from somebody, more than likely, who just wants to walk with God.
• 36:12
Speaker 1: Right, the problem is when you grab a hold of that thing that you're doing and you force that onto somebody else, yeah Right, I'm taking a break from social media.
• 36:18
Speaker 1: You know, I think we should all take a break from social media.
• 36:20
Speaker 1: Time out Exactly Good, mark, we're not all taking this break from social media.
• 36:25
Speaker 1: Maybe you do need to take a break and, as a parent, you can direct your kids where that all lies, but we need to be careful on judging another man's servant.
• 36:37
Speaker 1: We want to encourage them.
• 36:38
  Speaker 1: You're taking a break?
• 36:39
Speaker 1: Hey, I would like to know how that journey goes along with you.
• 36:43
Speaker 1: Why are you taking that break?
• 36:44
Speaker 1: What do you want to get out of that break, and is this something that you want to do regularly?
• 36:49
Speaker 1: Hey, how can I keep you accountable in the midst of this?
• 36:52
Speaker 1: How can I help you as you do this?
• 36:53
Speaker 1: If you're going to fast regularly, hey, let me know when you're fasting.
• 36:58
Speaker 1: Michael Jackson used to fast every Thursday when he was part of the Jehovah's Witness cult.
• 37:02
Speaker 1: Right, trying to now earn his way, trying to earn the favor of Jehovah.
• 37:08
Speaker 1: We're not serving God to gain his acceptance.
• 37:11
  Speaker 1: We are accepted.
• 37:12
Speaker 1: Therefore, we serve God, and we want to walk that straight and narrow path, right?
• 37:17
Speaker 1: So, yeah, capture those thoughts and be sensitive to the leadings and the promptings of the Spirit of God and be willing to surrender whatever is inside your life that may be trying to take up the throne where only Christ dwells.
• 37:31
Speaker 1: You know how you are connected to that one thing.
• 37:35
Speaker 1: If that one thing was to be removed, start going down your life.
• 37:39
Speaker 1: If social media was removed from your life, how would you be If your kids were taken away?
• 37:44
  Speaker 1: If your spouse?
• 37:44
Speaker 1: Would you be okay, because really the believer should be?
• 37:47
Speaker 1: Oh, it's gonna be hard Not saying it's not, but you're gonna be okay.
• 37:54
Speaker 5: I just thought about my life without TikTok and look.
• 37:57
Speaker 2: Mark, man, that's so good and I would say like, for example, someone like Laura who just wanted to give up social media for however long she should express it in such a way she's talking about it to other believers to where they wouldn't walk away feeling condemned and like a loser, and now she's influencing them that they have to do what she's doing but at the same time, they need to respond in such a way where she doesn't walk away feeling like a legalist or like she's you know doing, you know going overboard or whatever.
• 38:27
Speaker 2: You know that graciousness between us as believers.
• 38:31
Speaker 5: I want to use, because we're using legalism and antinomianism and I want to.
• 38:35
Speaker 4: Should you define antinomianism?
• 38:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, so that's what I wanted to do actually, and I'm going to borrow a lot from Sinclair Ferguson.
• 38:41
Speaker 5: He wrote a book on Galatians 5.
• 38:43
Speaker 5: I'm not remembering the title of the book right now, but if you Google it it was like two years ago.
• 38:48
Speaker 5: It was the best book I read that whole year.
• 38:50
Speaker 5: It was so good, wow.
• 38:52
Speaker 5: And in it he does a really good job of explaining legalism and antinomianism.
• 38:57
Speaker 5: Legalism is utilizing the law to save yourself.
• 39:01
Speaker 5: Antinomianism is not paying attention to the law and its role in your salvation.
• 39:07
Speaker 5: And one of the things that's big takeaways from that book is he says legalism and antinomianism are not two ends of a spectrum.
• 39:15
Speaker 5: They're actually twins birthed from the same womb.
• 39:19
Speaker 5: And what he points out is that the antinomian is essentially saying in their heart I know better than God, I'm going to do it my way, I'm taking his grace and I'm keeping for myself the life I want to live.
• 39:37
Speaker 5: The legalist says I know better than God, I'm going to use his law to earn favor with him, but I want his favor and not him, so that I can live my life the way I want to live my life.
• 39:52
Speaker 5: So you think about, like the story of the prodigal son, the younger brother leaves and takes his inheritance.
• 39:58
  Speaker 5: That's the antinomian.
• 40:00
Speaker 5: The legalist is the older brother in which stayed home.
• 40:03
Speaker 5: But what the story of the prodigal son reveals is that the older brother wasn't following his father out of love for his father.
• 40:11
Speaker 5: He was following his father for his own inheritance, and so I just thought it might be helpful.
• 40:17
Speaker 1: That's really good and the name of the book, why Sinclair Ferguson is Devoted to God.
• 40:21
Speaker 1: Blueprints for Sanctification Wow.
• 40:24
  Speaker 2: Dude, it's fantastic.
• 40:26
Speaker 2: Has Mr Ferguson considered changing his first name Sin Claire Ferguson?
• 40:34
Speaker 3: Ray Comforts in town.
• 40:36
Speaker 3: Oh, ray Comforts in town oh when you hear a thunderous sneeze and someone's saying did you get one of these?
• 40:45
  Speaker 5: Sorry, real quick.
• 40:46
Speaker 2: Ray, why are you looking so forlorn over there?
• 40:48
  Speaker 5: Forlorn.
• 40:51
Speaker 2: The word of the day Forlorn.
• 40:53
Speaker 4: It's like Saturday mornings.
• 40:54
Speaker 4: I looked it up, knowing you're alone.
• 40:57
  Speaker 3: Sorry.
• 40:58
Speaker 5: It's a different one that he wrote.
• 40:59
Speaker 5: It's a different one that he wrote.
• 41:00
Speaker 5: It's called the Whole Christ.
• 41:00
Speaker 5: Legalism, antinomianism and the Gospel of Assurance.
• 41:05
Speaker 1: It's a fantastic book, the one on Galatians 5?
• 41:07
Speaker 5: That is the one on Galatians 5, I believe.
• 41:10
Speaker 1: The one on Galatians 5 is Devoted to God.
• 41:11
  Speaker 5: Blueprints for Sanctification.
• 41:12
Speaker 5: Well then, I was wrong, but it was definitely the Whole Christ.
• 41:14
Speaker 5: That's the name of the book, oscar is lying, I'm a liar.
• 41:18
Speaker 2: Okay, ray, I'd like you to talk about how there's deception and temptation, because a lot of times you know we're looking at the big stuff.
• 41:35
Speaker 2: You know Lying, stealing, killing, slapping Mark's hand, stuff like that that one's not sin Big stuff.
• 41:41
Speaker 2: But Satan is often subtle in his temptations.
• 41:44
Speaker 4: Yeah, I was just going to use that word subtle.
• 41:46
Speaker 4: Satan is very subtle and he comes to us at our point of weakness.
• 41:49
Speaker 4: Jesus fasted 40 days and 40 nights and when he was in his lowest state the Bible uses an exaggeration, hyperbole and he hungered.
• 41:59
  Speaker 4: He hungered.
• 42:01
Speaker 4: I mean, 40 hours of fasting would cause me to hunger, but I love what Thomas Brooks said.
• 42:07
Speaker 4: He said the only way to avoid cannon shot is to fall down.
• 42:10
Speaker 4: Ooh, no such way to be freed from temptation.
• 42:17
Speaker 4: Or there's no such way to be freed from temptation as to keep low.
• 42:20
  Speaker 4: Isn't that good?
• 42:22
  Speaker 2: That's good.
• 42:23
Speaker 2: You need to send me that Ray.
• 42:25
Speaker 3: I don't want to do that.
• 42:26
Speaker 3: You take it, then I have to keep my word.
• 42:30
Speaker 2: So explain that Ray Lay low.
• 42:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, keep low, satan wants to shoot you down.
• 42:35
Speaker 2: Lay low from the answers of Genesis.
• 42:38
Speaker 4: Lay low, yeah so walk in humbleness of heart.
• 42:40
Speaker 4: And that's when Jesus fasted 40 days and 40 nights, the Bible says.
• 42:43
Speaker 4: Though he were a son, yet learned he obedience by the things that he suffered and being made perfect.
• 42:54
Speaker 4: He became the author of eternal salvation to all that obey him.
• 42:55
Speaker 4: Salvation doesn't come through obedience, but we're obedient because we're saved, amen.
• 42:57
Speaker 4: We walk in obedience, but we're obedient because we're saved.
• 42:59
Speaker 4: We walk in obedience.
• 43:00
Speaker 4: And he was brought low through those temptations, that hunger that consumed him, and that's the way to beat the devil Walk in loneliness of heart, not in pride, because that's his forte.
• 43:11
Speaker 4: Walk in loneliness of heart, lowly lowliness of heart, humility of heart.
• 43:15
Speaker 4: How do we do that?
• 43:16
Speaker 1: Mark, how do you have lowliness of heart?
• 43:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, fast for 40 days and 40 nights, that'll do it.
• 43:23
Speaker 2: And kill you at the same time.
• 43:24
Speaker 2: That'll lay you down.
• 43:25
Speaker 1: It's been said that humility is not thinking lowly of yourself.
• 43:27
Speaker 1: It's not thinking of yourself, it's just walking in this place of man.
• 43:33
Speaker 1: I've been forgiven much.
• 43:34
Speaker 1: I don't deserve anything greater than hell.
• 43:37
Speaker 1: I mean, if you really believed that you shouldn't receive anything more than hell, then you will be a very grateful individual.
• 43:46
Speaker 1: When somebody starts going off on you and speaking evil of you, you would respond with well, you don't know the half of it, right.
• 43:54
Speaker 1: I mean, I can add a lot more to the accusations by which you're coming up against me.
• 43:58
Speaker 1: A lot more to the accusations by which you're coming up against me.
• 44:02
Speaker 1: How do I think lowly of myself?
• 44:03
Speaker 1: It's just to get a greater vision of God.
• 44:05
Speaker 4: That's it, and look in the mirror.
• 44:06
  Speaker 2: Yeah, mark.
• 44:08
Speaker 2: To me that is the only way we can do what it tells us in the Word giving thanks always for all things to God, the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
• 44:18
Speaker 2: Giving thanks always, and it says in Colossians and Thessalonians I believe this is the will of God for you.
• 44:24
Speaker 2: I mean it's God's will that we give thanks always for all things.
• 44:30
Speaker 2: How is that possible?
• 44:31
Speaker 2: What you just said?
• 44:33
Speaker 2: When we realize what we deserve in place of what we have, literally we should be consumed in the eternal flames of hell.
• 44:40
Speaker 2: And we're not Anything less painful than hell.
• 44:44
Speaker 2: Anything less painful than hell is an undeserved blessing.
• 44:51
Speaker 2: I can't see it any other way.
• 44:54
Speaker 2: Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm blind.
• 44:55
Speaker 2: I mean, it's like I used this analogy with someone recently.
• 44:58
Speaker 2: I said imagine you were in some crazy draconian country.
• 45:03
Speaker 2: You're sentenced to a lifetime of daily torture because of the crimes you committed Legitimate crimes.
• 45:10
  Speaker 2: You're guilty.
• 45:11
  Speaker 2: Daily torture.
• 45:13
Speaker 2: Someone comes in, they poke you in the eyes, they rip your nails out, they take your teeth and pull them out.
• 45:18
Speaker 2: I mean, every day it's some new torture.
• 45:20
Speaker 2: Will you get up?
• 45:20
Speaker 3: It's like the podcast.
• 45:21
Speaker 3: Basically, you have to listen to the podcast every minute of every day.
• 45:26
  Speaker 3: France, France.
• 45:28
Speaker 2: France, france, but instead you get sent to an American prison, not the El Salvador prison that we're all hearing about American prison, three square meals a day, going outside.
• 45:43
  Speaker 4: What's a square meal, whatever it's really in a box.
• 45:47
Speaker 2: You get to go out and play basketball with guys, you get to have TV.
• 45:51
Speaker 2: Now they give iPads in jails by the way Prison sounds amazing.
• 45:54
  Speaker 2: Better than work.
• 45:55
Speaker 2: So you get that instead for life, and now you have any room to complain.
• 46:03
Speaker 2: You'd be every day.
• 46:04
Speaker 2: This is awesome, because you deserve nothing less than that torture every day.
• 46:09
Speaker 2: I don't know we need to get with it.
• 46:12
Speaker 2: Speaking of that, sorry, oscar you go first.
• 46:14
  Speaker 2: No, no, no.
• 46:14
  Speaker 2: Beauty before age.
• 46:16
Speaker 2: Ray, I am more humble than you, I'm humblest.
• 46:17
  Speaker 2: You go first.
• 46:18
Speaker 2: Nope, I am more humble than you, I'm humblest.
• 46:19
  Speaker 4: You go first.
• 46:20
  Speaker 4: Nope, okay, disclosure.
• 46:21
Speaker 4: My humility demands disclosure.
• 46:24
Speaker 4: I went into AI and says give me some really good witticisms, sanctified witticisms, about temptation.
• 46:31
Speaker 4: And I said give me 10.
• 46:33
Speaker 4: And these are the two that I got that I thought were great.
• 46:36
Speaker 4: The best way to flee temptation is to have a better place to go.
• 46:40
Speaker 3: Ooh, I thought that.
• 46:40
Speaker 3: I thought were great.
• 46:40
Speaker 4: The best way to flee temptation is to have a better place to go.
• 46:41
Speaker 4: I thought that's pretty good and if you give the devil a foothold, he'll turn it into a stronghold.
• 46:50
Speaker 5: Those are good Ray.
• 46:50
Speaker 2: Too bad you can't claim them as your own.
• 46:52
Speaker 2: That would have been nice.
• 46:54
Speaker 5: I love that first one and that's actually the point.
• 46:57
Speaker 5: The first one's really good because it's leaning into the idea of the gospel, and this goes back to the idea of legalism, antinomianism, which is that ultimately, you can memorize every word in the New Testament.
• 47:12
Speaker 5: You can fast, and yet you can potentially still not experience transformation.
• 47:19
Speaker 5: And yet you can potentially still not experience transformation.
• 47:22
Speaker 5: You can still fall into sin.
• 47:23
  Speaker 5: Why?
• 47:23
Speaker 5: Because you actually don't fight temptation by suppressing your desires, but by redirecting your desires, and if all you do is look inwardly to manage all of your impulses, you will end up losing.
• 47:38
Speaker 5: All of your impulses.
• 47:45
Speaker 5: You will end up losing.
• 47:45
Speaker 5: This is why Augustine talks about the idea of reordering our hearts.
• 47:47
Speaker 5: Basically, what we need is a new affection, and I think the key to understanding this is Rachel.
• 47:55
Speaker 5: In Genesis 29, jacob sees Rachel and he immediately falls in love, and we know he works for seven years, obedient, disciplined, and afterwards he finds out that he's only going to have to work for another seven years.
• 48:11
Speaker 5: Now you might ask like how does that remind us of Jesus?
• 48:13
Speaker 5: Hebrews 12 says that Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before him.
• 48:20
Speaker 5: That joy, christian, is you, just like Jacob looked to Rachel and said that will be the reward of my obedience.
• 48:29
Speaker 5: Jesus looks at us and says you will be my reward, and so what that does is that when we come to understand how God has loved us, his love for us will cause a love for him.
• 48:45
Speaker 5: When we fix our eyes on the one who gave everything for us, he will become everything to us.
• 48:54
Speaker 5: So what we need to see is that, like you, the church is Jesus's Rachel.
• 48:58
Speaker 5: Is that, like you, the church is Jesus's Rachel?
• 48:59
Speaker 5: He becomes when we realize that he becomes the one that captures our imagination and that understanding God's love for us that is stronger than any willpower than we could ever devise of our own.
• 49:13
  Speaker 2: Amen.
• 49:13
Speaker 2: That's so important, oscar, yeah, we need to look to him.
• 49:19
Speaker 2: He's our example in resisting temptation and he is the one that we're running towards.
• 49:24
Speaker 2: Looking unto Jesus, the author and the finisher of your faith.
• 49:28
  Speaker 2: Looking unto him.
• 49:29
Speaker 2: And then, mark, there is a reality of what's inside us that people often forget.
• 49:34
Speaker 2: Galatians 5, I say then, walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, for the flesh lusts against the Spirit, the Spirit against the flesh.
• 49:40
  Speaker 2: These are contrary.
• 49:41
Speaker 2: So that's a reality that Christians need to acknowledge.
• 49:43
Speaker 2: How do we stand strong in the midst of that battle between the flesh and the Spirit?
• 49:56
Speaker 1: I think that you run with the right people.
• 49:59
Speaker 1: You run alongside people that are like-minded.
• 50:03
Speaker 1: You link arms with people that are heading in the same direction.
• 50:11
Speaker 1: It's not enough to flee youthful lust, but we pursue all these other things with others who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
• 50:16
Speaker 1: Blessed is the man who walks, not in the counsel of the wicked right.
• 50:21
Speaker 1: You become like-minded to those who you hang out with.
• 50:24
Speaker 1: So if you are going to hang out with people that are just entrepreneurs and that's all they're thinking about, you will somehow kind of catch that right.
• 50:33
Speaker 1: It will not so much be taught as much as it is caught.
• 50:37
Speaker 1: So we want to hang out with people that have good morals, because bad company corrupts good morals.
• 50:43
Speaker 1: We want to run our race and run it well.
• 50:47
Speaker 1: Surround yourself with people that you think are running the race and running well.
• 50:52
Speaker 1: So run with the right people and run from wrong places.
• 50:55
Speaker 1: So you find yourself inside of a place where you typically wouldn't be.
• 51:00
Speaker 1: If you're going out to lunch with your pastor, well then you don't need to really be hanging out at that place as it is.
• 51:07
Speaker 1: You have a problem with alcohol.
• 51:08
Speaker 1: Don't go hang out and have your Devo in the corner of the bar, right?
• 51:13
Speaker 1: You don't need to be winning people for Christ in the bar if you have a problem with drinking, right.
• 51:19
Speaker 1: So, yeah, I think that that's really what it is right.
• 51:22
Speaker 1: The idea is just you link arms with people that are like-minded, or people that are running the race, maybe a little bit better than you.
• 51:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, and then also, you know, like he says there, walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
• 51:35
Speaker 2: And that involves involving yourself in the things that God's Spirit is involved in, like we've talked about before the Word, prayer, evangelism, right, I mean, when the Spirit comes upon you, you'll be my witnesses.
• 51:46
Speaker 2: We don't know how to praise who we are.
• 51:47
  Speaker 2: The Spirit intercedes.
• 51:48
Speaker 2: The Scripture is called the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God and fellowship.
• 51:52
Speaker 2: Scripture talks about the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
• 51:54
  Speaker 2: Ray Ephesians 6,.
• 52:00
Speaker 2: We don't wrestle against flesh and blood.
• 52:04
Speaker 4: No, we don't, do we we?
• 52:05
Speaker 2: should, but it's not.
• 52:06
Speaker 2: There's a spiritual battle going on.
• 52:09
Speaker 2: What part does the armor of God play?
• 52:15
Speaker 4: Because it talks about resisting Satan's firm in our faith.
• 52:16
Speaker 4: Yeah, we should all be familiar with Ephesians 6, verses 12 through to 20.
• 52:19
Speaker 4: Listen to the armor of God, the sword of the Spirit, the feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.
• 52:26
Speaker 4: That is one huge key.
• 52:27
Speaker 4: That's often overlooked because it's lowly.
• 52:30
Speaker 4: But if you have your feet always ready to share the gospel, have those beautiful feet covered with the shoes, the gospel shoes.
• 52:37
Speaker 4: That's part of the victory, because if you're rowing the boat, you're.
• 52:42
  Speaker 4: I haven't got a clue where that's going.
• 52:45
Speaker 2: Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream.
• 52:49
Speaker 4: Anyway, john MacArthur said temptations that have been anticipated, guarded against and prayed about have little power to harm us.
• 53:02
  Speaker 2: Isn't that good?
• 53:02
Speaker 2: Yes, read it again.
• 53:04
Speaker 4: Temptations that have been anticipated, guarded against and prayed about have little power to harm us.
• 53:11
Speaker 2: Read it one more time, one more time you sound like a Democrat.
• 53:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's watch and pray.
• 53:20
Speaker 4: Just be aware of your own weaknesses.
• 53:23
Speaker 2: Well, you know I often say that right Hebrews talks about you have not resisted to bloodshed in your struggle against sin.
• 53:30
Speaker 2: I love that imagery Like, hey, look, you haven't gone all out.
• 53:33
Speaker 2: And how often do we say ourselves or hear other believers say, man, I really want to be free from the sin.
• 53:41
Speaker 2: And when you ask what's being done about it, nothing really.
• 53:44
Speaker 2: And when you ask what's being done about it, nothing really.
• 53:47
Speaker 2: I mean, again, if I have cancer and there's a regimen through which I can be saved from it and live, but I don't appropriate that and I don't participate in that regimen, there's obviously something wrong.
• 53:58
Speaker 2: Either I don't believe that I really have cancer and it's terminal, or I have a death wish and I really do want to die.
• 54:01
Speaker 2: All right, I mean, if you guys have that, you would have to conclude it's terminal.
• 54:03
Speaker 2: Or I have a death wish and I really do want to die, all right, I mean, if you guys have that, you would have to conclude it's one of those two.
• 54:07
Speaker 2: They're in denial, they don't really think they have it, even though they're given lip service, they do.
• 54:10
Speaker 2: Or they really do want to die.
• 54:13
Speaker 2: They don't want to live anymore.
• 54:15
  Speaker 4: It's interesting.
• 54:20
Speaker 2: We've been talking for this thought.
• 54:22
Speaker 4: I don't want to do that.
• 54:22
  Speaker 4: I can't be bothered.
• 54:23
Speaker 4: No, you're going to get gone away.
• 54:24
Speaker 4: It's nice and old.
• 54:24
Speaker 2: Haven't thought about it yet.
• 54:28
Speaker 2: No, but look, we've talked about it.
• 54:30
Speaker 2: I have a serious problem, okay, are you praying intensively about it?
• 54:35
Speaker 2: Not just you know, lord, bless my burrito and help me with this.
• 54:38
Speaker 2: Praying intensively, daily, continually.
• 54:41
Speaker 2: Are you fasting over the issue?
• 54:42
Speaker 2: Are you reading books on the subject?
• 54:44
Speaker 2: Are you getting counsel on it?
• 54:47
Speaker 2: Are you memorizing scripture and studying the word on it?
• 54:49
Speaker 2: If you haven't done all those, don't complain that you have this sin you're struggling with and don't say I just can't overcome this, it's just it makes no sense.
• 55:00
Speaker 4: Are there any books?
• 55:00
  Speaker 1: that you could.
• 55:01
Speaker 1: Disciplines of a Godly man yeah, but listen, if you can get down what you just said, right, this is the litmus test to see where you're at.
• 55:16
Speaker 1: If you really care about what you are struggling with, go back to listen to what EZ just said.
• 55:18
Speaker 1: Go back 30 seconds and he just laid down your pathway out of that destructive path in which you've been found yourself marinating in.
• 55:27
  Speaker 1: It's that simple.
• 55:29
Speaker 1: Don't overthink it, don't overcomplicate it.
• 55:31
Speaker 1: One by one, go through those and if you're saying to yourself, no, I'm not, then remember, return and repent.
• 55:38
Speaker 1: This is the idea, and you'll come out fine on the other side.
• 55:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, and guys, we're not prescribing something to you that we don't do ourselves right Like we.
• 55:47
Speaker 2: I mentioned Elijah earlier.
• 55:49
Speaker 2: He was a man, you know, with the same nature as ours.
• 55:51
Speaker 2: All of us here are sinners.
• 55:54
  Speaker 2: We're fallen men.
• 55:55
Speaker 2: We struggle, especially Ray.
• 55:59
Speaker 3: Yeah, get right in on my sinner.
• 56:02
Speaker 2: But we need the same thing and we do the same things.
• 56:05
Speaker 2: We get in the Word, we get accountability, we read books, we I mean you need that Right Con with.
• 56:12
  Speaker 4: Science, knowledge.
• 56:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, I was just thinking how powerful the conscience is.
• 56:17
Speaker 4: I was asking someone this morning at the college.
• 56:18
Speaker 4: I asked two guys one of the other, do you believe in evolution?
• 56:22
Speaker 4: And they said yes.
• 56:23
Speaker 4: I said well, why did evolution give us a conscience?
• 56:26
Speaker 4: The conscience that echoes the truth of each of the Ten Commandments you shall not lie, shall not steal, shall not commit adultery.
• 56:31
Speaker 4: Do you think God gave us that conscience?
• 56:33
Speaker 4: And they both nodded in two separate instances.
• 56:37
Speaker 4: It doesn't make any sense that evolution would furnish all of humanity with this built, intuitive knowledge that the Ten Commandments are right and just and true.
• 56:49
Speaker 4: So that's what we need to cultivate as Christians when it comes to temptation have a conscience that's tender towards God and towards man.
• 56:56
Speaker 4: And the key is to have a conscience that's tender towards God, because you can dull your conscience towards man, but we've got to cultivate our conscience towards God.
• 57:05
  Speaker 2: That's good, ray.
• 57:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think it'd be good to end on the note of Joseph.
• 57:14
Speaker 2: We referenced him earlier.
• 57:14
Speaker 2: I've actually been preparing a new message on Joseph that I'll be teaching at purity events.
• 57:17
Speaker 2: But you look at how Joseph responded to Potiphar's wife.
• 57:21
Speaker 2: It says this is Genesis 39,.
• 57:24
Speaker 2: Now, joseph was handsome in form and appearance one of me, not us, one of me.
• 57:29
Speaker 2: And it came to pass after these things that his master's wife cast longing eyes on Joseph and she said lie with me.
• 57:36
  Speaker 2: But he refused.
• 57:38
Speaker 2: It's wrong to lie.
• 57:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, he shall not lie.
• 57:40
Speaker 2: But he refused and said to his master's wife look, my master does not know what is with me in the house and has committed all that he has to my hand.
• 57:50
Speaker 2: There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me, but you, because you are his wife.
• 57:56
Speaker 2: How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?
• 58:02
Speaker 2: So it was that, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her to lie with her or to be with her.
• 58:10
Speaker 2: But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was inside that she caught him by his garment saying lie with me.
• 58:19
Speaker 2: But he left his garment in her hand and fled and ran outside.
• 58:24
Speaker 2: What an example, you guys.
• 58:27
Speaker 2: And basically my three points for the message are going to be first of all, joseph refused.
• 58:33
Speaker 2: It said when she came and petitioned him, he refused the next one.
• 58:37
Speaker 2: I'm going to use another R.
• 58:38
Speaker 2: Why would I do that?
• 58:39
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 58:39
Speaker 2: No, I didn't use an R for the next one.
• 58:40
Speaker 2: So first he refused.
• 58:41
Speaker 2: Second, he reasoned you like that today.
• 58:46
Speaker 2: He reasoned, he started to reason with her Look, and he began to recount all of God's favor and blessing upon him and the betrayal against his master who entrusted him with everything.
• 59:00
Speaker 2: And then he reasoned.
• 59:01
Speaker 2: And he reasoned what?
• 59:03
Speaker 2: This was great wickedness.
• 59:06
Speaker 2: And then he recognized this was against God.
• 59:09
Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
• 59:10
  Speaker 2: And he ran.
• 59:11
Speaker 2: And third, he ran and then he rapped.
• 59:13
Speaker 3: Thank you for taking my thunder.
• 59:15
  Speaker 2: Hooray.
• 59:17
  Speaker 3: Yeah, sorry saliva.
• 59:18
Speaker 2: He ran, he ran.
• 59:21
Speaker 2: We need to run from sin.
• 59:24
Speaker 2: Was it AI that told you that quote?
• 59:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to change my name to Allen Iverson, so I can say, ai said the answer man, it's true, but run.
• 59:35
Speaker 2: We need to flee, flee youthful lust.
• 59:38
Speaker 4: That's an admittance of your own weakness.
• 59:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, don't try to act like again we've said it before the people who think they can't fall into whatever sin will.
• 59:53
Speaker 4: The moth shouldn't resist the flame, it should fly.
• 59:57
Speaker 3: Fly from the flame Smile though, come on what was up with that smile, ray.
• 1:00:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, so friends, he refused when it first came, but she continued day after day, so he resisted and then at the end, when she really put him in the corner, he ran.
• 1:00:16
  Speaker 4: What about the?
• 1:00:17
  Speaker 2: reason.
• 1:00:17
Speaker 2: Oh wait, did I say reason?
• 1:00:19
Speaker 4: You said resist him.
• 1:00:20
  Speaker 4: Yeah, he reasoned.
• 1:00:23
Speaker 2: Oh, no, it's four points Refuse resist.
• 1:00:25
  Speaker 4: What about responsibility?
• 1:00:26
Speaker 4: Wait, oh no, it's four points.
• 1:00:26
  Speaker 4: Refuse, resist.
• 1:00:27
  Speaker 4: What about responsibility?
• 1:00:27
  Speaker 4: There's a risk.
• 1:00:28
Speaker 2: Wait, refuse, reason, resist, run Rumble.
• 1:00:32
  Speaker 2: What'd you say?
• 1:00:32
  Speaker 2: Rumble, Rumble.
• 1:00:34
Speaker 2: Thank you for joining us.
• 1:00:35
Speaker 2: My 400-point sermon, and error and error and error.
• 1:00:40
  Speaker 2: Anyway, do that?
• 1:00:43
  Speaker 2: Do that, friends?
• 1:00:45
Speaker 2: And yeah, refuse, then reason through it, think about it, then resist if the temptation persists and then run, Run toward God.
• 1:00:55
Speaker 2: Do you like that, Mark?
• 1:00:56
Speaker 2: Yes, Otherwise you'll regret.
• 1:00:58
Speaker 4: Ooh and then have remorse.
• 1:01:00
Speaker 4: Ooh, because you didn't repent.
• 1:01:03
  Speaker 5: Ooh.
• 1:01:04
Speaker 2: That was very riveting.
• 1:01:05
Speaker 2: And then for lunch you'll have a chicken wrap.
• 1:01:07
Speaker 4: That would sound like a cow to me.
• 1:01:09
  Speaker 4: Chicken wrap.
• 1:01:11
Speaker 3: All right, you friends.
• 1:01:13
