- 0:00In our massive country, there are card collectors throughout
- 0:03the land participating in the hobby.
- 0:06There's Mike of Junk Wax Hero and Greg of Midlife Cards, and
- 0:11while distance may separate them, here is where they come
- 0:15together to talk cards. Hey buddy, so let's talk some
- 0:21cards. How are you?
- 0:23Good. I'm so tired, Greg.
- 0:24I didn't even bop along to the song to the intro song.
- 0:29I mean, that's AU problem, really.
- 0:33I've been off all week, so I'm bopping all over the place.
- 0:35I played a few holes of golf today with my mother.
- 0:39We went out and played six holes and then we got tired of waiting
- 0:42so we just drove off. And is it school vacation week?
- 0:45Yeah, it's spring break. Here they get vacations in
- 0:49February and April. Yeah, that's how a lot of people
- 0:53do it. That's called A modified
- 0:56traditional. My district doesn't believe in
- 0:58that for some reason, but yeah. If I had known, we could have
- 1:02started this earlier. Yeah, I mean, we could have.
- 1:06Yeah. I didn't know that.
- 1:07I thought that you didn't work from home on this day of the
- 1:10week. But I don't.
- 1:11But I, I, Yeah. It doesn't matter.
- 1:16Yeah. I I I don't know.
- 1:18I have. There's a yeah.
- 1:19So we're I I golfed today. We went up to the mountains for
- 1:23a couple of days. It's been.
- 1:25I slept in today. I slept in till like 7.
- 1:27I felt like I was cheating. Maybe 7:15.
- 1:31I very rarely sleep until 7:00, but when I do 7 is just about as
- 1:36late as I can still feel good. Like I'll feel like wow I slept
- 1:39in, I feel good, but if I sleep longer than that I've wasted my
- 1:43day. Yeah, No, I, I hear that too.
- 1:47I mean, if you do sleep too long, then you feel like you're
- 1:50behind, you know, and not not even that you have anything that
- 1:54you necessarily have to do. I got to tell you something,
- 1:57man, I had a massive mail day today.
- 2:00Now you you're aware of one of the cards that I came, came
- 2:05because I texted you earlier a picture of it.
- 2:08But I and, and I think that's going to be part of our topic
- 2:11today potentially. But I had another package that
- 2:16was delivered from, there's a small auction house that sells
- 2:21non sport it, it auctions non sport cards.
- 2:24And I'm big into non sport cards.
- 2:28And I bought 4 cards in their auction that closed a week and a
- 2:34half ago and the card showed up today and dude, I'm I'm pumped.
- 2:39Like I just absolutely love them.
- 2:41Can I show Can I show you a few of these?
- 2:43Please, is it Goonies related? Not Goonies related.
- 2:46So this is a 19 O1 Teddy Roosevelt sweet cap card.
- 2:53Now this card in cigarettes, there would be a panel that had
- 2:58two cards on it. And these are heroes of the
- 3:02Spanish War, OK. And it would be hand cut.
- 3:07There'd be two cards on a panel. And this is the the Teddy
- 3:11Roosevelt, which the other thing that's cool about this card is
- 3:14it came out in 19 O1, which is the year he became president
- 3:20after an assassination. So it's so.
- 3:23It I mean, it's his presidential rookie card for sure.
- 3:29And if you look here, I pulled this up, pop total pop is five
- 3:35and a pop higher. This is a 2 pop higher.
- 3:38There are two twos, so the others are authentics.
- 3:43So really excited about that card.
- 3:46Let me get this out of the way. I'll show you a couple more.
- 3:48So then I got another Teddy Roosevelt card.
- 3:51I mean, doesn't it look just my kids?
- 3:53My daughter looked that goes, that's what he looked like in
- 3:55the night at the museum. I was like, I know.
- 3:57That's right. Yep.
- 3:58That's 1910 card and then from the same set I got this Buffalo
- 4:03Bill and I got this sitting bowl I am pumped for.
- 4:10Those. So those cards were these are
- 4:16needle in a haystack cards, these just don't come up for
- 4:18sale. And then when you do, you just
- 4:21hope that somebody else doesn't want them as much as you.
- 4:23And I felt like I got a killer deal on all four of them.
- 4:26And I'm getting a sense that you're not going to name the
- 4:29auction house because you're afraid to give people the idea
- 4:32of going to buy it at this auction house.
- 4:34Now there is a there is a piece of that.
- 4:39I to be honest with you, I think it's just called non sport
- 4:41auctions. If you'd googled non sport
- 4:45auctions. I'll pull it up.
- 4:51Let's see if I can find it here real quick.
- 4:55Yeah, it's, I'll put it on the screen here.
- 4:59This is it. Vintage non sport cards.
- 5:02It's auctions.vintagenonsports.com.
- 5:08If you watch Ryan Nolan's channel break out cards, he
- 5:11always covers these auctions thoroughly afterwards about
- 5:14cards that stood out and stuff like that.
- 5:17I love this stuff. This Blackbeard right here,
- 5:21sold. I was watching it, I didn't end
- 5:24up making a play for it. Pretty nice 3 1/2.
- 5:29Very nice. That sold for $4272.
- 5:37Yeah. Oh yeah, dude, it's, it's legit,
- 5:40bro. So yeah.
- 5:42So that was half of my order. Then the other thing that came
- 5:45in today, which is going to lead us into our, our main topic I
- 5:50believe is a big Derek Jeter card.
- 5:56It's 1997 essential credentials Derek Jeter.
- 6:02Now this card is interesting because it's out of 99 and I
- 6:09know that a lot of people are like out of 99.
- 6:11Is he really doing this? It's out of 99, but total PSA
- 6:16pop 9 higher. This is an 8 pop 3 total pop is
- 6:2316 even though it's numbered out of 99.
- 6:26So some of them are probably in Beckett holders, but some of
- 6:31them just are still in the wild. Yeah, sitting in 90s collections
- 6:36completely forgotten about. Yeah, and a lot of them thrown
- 6:39out. We should say before we get into
- 6:41this that non sport auction company is not a sponsor but
- 6:46Greg who is the sponsor of this show.
- 6:48Yeah, who is a sponsor is Chris Sewell.
- 6:51And if you went to sportscarclubhouse.com and you
- 6:54went to partners, you would see on the screen Chris Sewell,
- 6:58collector, investor, dealer, in that order.
- 7:01And if you click on the Learn More, you could even go directly
- 7:04to his website, collectorinvestordealer.com.
- 7:08He has this e-mail address is the one that's still posted you
- 7:11and I kind of sharebothofthembutthisoneischris@collectorinvestordealer.com.
- 7:17Again, if you're looking to sell your collection and get treated
- 7:21well, get good prices. I do trust Chris very much, and
- 7:27as do you. Tell me again, remind me of his
- 7:29other e-mail address. Chris@sewellsports2cardssewellsportscards.com.
- 7:36Yeah. You know what we should do,
- 7:37Craig? We should have.
- 7:39We're never going to do it, but it'll be funny if every time we
- 7:42say Chris Sewell, baseball card collector, investor, dealer and
- 7:46then we had a music thing pop up and play in that order.
- 7:52Yeah, like a barbershop quartet. Yeah.
- 7:56Now he's great. We appreciate more than
- 7:58anything. I'll be honest with you, I just
- 8:01appreciate his support and belief in us.
- 8:03That means a lot to me. And he's a great guy.
- 8:06He's also a partner in CIA auctions, which I bought a
- 8:13couple of cards at CIA auctions this last weekend.
- 8:17I've been on a buying spree. Do we want to do we want to get
- 8:23into that? Because why don't you, why don't
- 8:27you lead us off on the your main topic that you want to talk?
- 8:30About today Well, we should also mention that Chris, something
- 8:32you're not aware of is there is a tall guy club, but I'm part of
- 8:36Yeah, and not you. You have to be tall.
- 8:38Chris Sewell is part of it. Jeremy Lee and Adam Gray, part
- 8:43of the tall guy tall guy club. You have to be 6 foot 2 or
- 8:46taller. Sorry.
- 8:47Sammy Thunder. Sammy Thunder's in there.
- 8:49Tall Guy Club. Yes.
- 8:52Yeah, I'm not in that club. I'll blame my jeans for that.
- 8:58I Yeah. OK, so tell me about the topic
- 9:02that you. You you We've been talking a
- 9:05little bit about it, but you've been going crazy on some very,
- 9:09very nice 1990s Jeter cards, some refractors, some non
- 9:14refractors, very like very high end.
- 9:18These aren't just like 1993 tops.
- 9:21These are, I think there's 1800 eighteen 165 of the gold mirror
- 9:27in 1995. Weird thing, if I if I remember
- 9:30this correctly, there were over 1800 of the 95 select gold
- 9:34mirror, but they're only 30 of the 1996 gold mirror per player.
- 9:40Why did they change so drastically?
- 9:42I don't know, but the 1996? Good luck getting one of those.
- 9:47I don't know what those sell for for Jeter, but it's got to be
- 9:4910s of thousands. It's thousands, yeah, it's
- 9:51thousands 'cause they have like the red and the blue and the
- 9:56gold and the gold are super rare.
- 9:59Thousands of dollars. Even the other colors are are
- 10:03not cheap. And then and and I'm just going
- 10:06to, you know, continue to pull back the curtain on what I've
- 10:10been doing. These are the cards that I
- 10:13bought at the CIA auction over the weekend.
- 10:16So I did not limit my spending tear.
- 10:21This is an artist proof 97 pinnacle.
- 10:26This card, it's like something, it's like one artist proof per
- 10:31two boxes and there's a bunch of artist proofs.
- 10:36So the odds of getting the Jeter is like like one in 300 boxes or
- 10:42something. So what?
- 10:45What did you pay for this? It's right there, I just can't
- 10:47quite see. You owe $202.40 with the buyer
- 10:51premium. That feels like an insane deal.
- 10:54I think it is. Let's look up.
- 10:56Let's look up the pop on this one.
- 10:58So this is going to take me a second so everyone will see me
- 11:01fumbling around here. Well, yeah.
- 11:04And while you do that, so Adam of splendid sports, we know
- 11:08Adam. He's our partner here on the
- 11:10sports card clubhouse. Adam is the best created a list
- 11:14of the best Pedro cards, Pedro Martinez cards of all time.
- 11:18And what what year was that artist proof one?
- 11:2297. OK so the 97 there isn't artist
- 11:28proof for Pedro but there is a different one.
- 11:32I'm looking at his list here. Oh it's 98 pinnacle plus artist
- 11:36proof gold which is numbered at 100.
- 11:39What was yours? Mine is not numbered.
- 11:43It's an artist proof gold 97 pinnacle.
- 11:47But but if you look at the pop here, the the pop is 18.
- 11:53This is a nine, there's six 10s. But let me get the total pop.
- 11:58I have to pull the number 139. So we'll look at the total pop
- 12:04of that particular card again, 200 bucks.
- 12:07This is Derek Jeter. Total pop of that card is 44.
- 12:14Announced print run IS300 OK non serial numbered.
- 12:20So there's 300 in the wild, there's probably some in Beckett
- 12:25holders, there are 44 in PSA holders.
- 12:29But 200 bucks? Seems like a huge deal.
- 12:34Right. Yeah.
- 12:36And then I I bought another card and the reason I bought this one
- 12:41is because I don't see this one very often.
- 12:44So this card right here is a 1999 Metal Universe Diamond Soul
- 12:50PSA 8. Now this card is something like
- 12:54one in every 76 packs. You get a diamond soul card, one
- 13:00in every 76 packs. That's like one in every three
- 13:03boxes and there are 15 diamond soul cards in there.
- 13:09So about one in every 45 boxes you would get this Jeter and
- 13:16this card was $79 with the buyer premium in already in a case
- 13:23already already graded in an A. It feels like you've done
- 13:28something illegal here. I don't know about that.
- 13:31I mean, there are people out there that are rolling their
- 13:33eyes at what I've done here. They're going what is this guy
- 13:37doing? But here's the thing, you are in
- 13:42our text messages which people can't see.
- 13:45You are poo pooping anything beyond 1999.
- 13:49And I have to tell you, I have to tell you, when you start
- 13:53looking at the 2003 and 2004 Jeter tops Chrome refractors,
- 13:59you are going to change your mind.
- 14:00You're going to say I have to have those?
- 14:03OK, so let me first say this. I'm not poo pooping.
- 14:09Let me let me set the record straight.
- 14:11First of all, I actually bought recently a Jeter 2004 Jeter
- 14:20black refractor on man. Those are so nice.
- 14:24It's such a cool card. I'll show it on on my I'll put
- 14:28me in solo and I'll put it up there and then I want to tell
- 14:31you a story about this. I mean, that's an awesome
- 14:33looking card. It's in a Beckett 8.5 scratched
- 14:36up case needs to be polished out.
- 14:39But let me explain what happened here.
- 14:45What happened? Hold on, hold on, my bad.
- 14:49So so I bought I did buy one, but I want I want to defend
- 14:54myself here because you just you came at me so I need to defend
- 14:57myself. So first of all, I did buy one.
- 15:00Now I bought that two weeks ago and there was no notification of
- 15:06it being shipped and you go well, it's probably a bad
- 15:09seller. It's DC sports cards.
- 15:12I bought this on eBay from DC Sports 87.
- 15:16OK it was not cheap. Finally after two weeks and it
- 15:21doesn't have a tracking number, I put in a thing that says I
- 15:25haven't gotten the card yet and immediately and I said I still
- 15:30want the card, just ship it. I immediately get a notice that
- 15:36I've been refunded. I don't want to be refunded.
- 15:39It was an auction. I got it for what I believe to
- 15:43be a good deal. That's an insane deal.
- 15:45Yeah, it it was. I thought this was a great deal.
- 15:48For anybody listening, he's got it.
- 15:50He paid $225.00 before taxes and and shipping.
- 15:54And and these cards are numbered, but they're numbered
- 15:58out of a lot. But it's it's a so I'm sitting
- 16:02there going, I didn't want a refund.
- 16:04I just wanted you to ship me the freaking card.
- 16:07Like what's the deal? So, and DC is one of the
- 16:11companies I've always heard really good things about.
- 16:15So I'm not thrilled about that. But OK, so now let me address
- 16:19the accusation. The.
- 16:21Accusation is I'm poo pooping cards from 2000 and after.
- 16:26That's actually not accurate. What I'm doing is I'm trying to
- 16:31find focus and if I take my window and I go all the way to
- 16:382005 or something, then it's so broad.
- 16:43I feel like I'm, I'm drowning. I'm in quicksand.
- 16:46It's too much. So here's what I did.
- 16:48I went in to the Jeter PSA master list and I went through
- 16:55every single card from the very first Jeter card through 1990.
- 17:00I started with through 1997 and I looked at every single card
- 17:05and I said, I like that one. I want that one.
- 17:08Put it on the list. I like that one.
- 17:09I want that one. So then I made an Excel
- 17:11spreadsheet. I can even pull it up.
- 17:13I'll pull up the Excel spreadsheet and and then I said,
- 17:17Oh my gosh, there's like 60 cards.
- 17:20I need to stay focused and when you're talking about something
- 17:24as big as this, I can't possibly bite off all of that.
- 17:31So it's more it's not that I'm Pooh poohing it, it's that I'm
- 17:35trying to put guardrails on myself.
- 17:38OK. Is that is that fair?
- 17:41Yes, I think that if you've seen the 2000 fours, you know they're
- 17:47very nice. Like here's here's my 2000
- 17:49threes of Pedro black and gold number to 199 and 449.
- 17:57And they are the 2003 and four are the best.
- 18:03They I think those are the two best years.
- 18:06I, I, they get a little out of control with some of the later
- 18:10refractors, even well before current times like 2009.
- 18:16There's all kinds of different colors.
- 18:17I don't know, but yeah the 2002, 2003, 2004 are my favorites.
- 18:24All right, so. You're going to increase, people
- 18:26are going to go out there and start bidding you up.
- 18:28Now this is how diabolical I am right now.
- 18:31I made a list of all the ones that I want and I'm at 30.
- 18:38I'm at 3036 ish, 35 because there's a couple of MP lines.
- 18:44I've got comps, I've got populations, I've got how much I
- 18:48want them now. I haven't updated this since
- 18:52I've been on my tear recently. So that's something like, you
- 18:59know, like the Pinnacle card that that I just bought that
- 19:05that's not even that's not even on here, because I didn't even
- 19:08think I would be able to find it so some.
- 19:11You have a 97 Topps Chrome Refractor, 96 Topps Chrome
- 19:15refractor 'cause that's the first year of tops.
- 19:16He does and it's expensive. It's like $1000 cart 'cause it's
- 19:20the first year and, and that's, I got to go back to this and I
- 19:25got to go back to part of the reason the essential credentials
- 19:28that I got is so cool is because this is the first year of
- 19:31essential credentials. And so I've had some people rub
- 19:36off on me big time over the last couple of years.
- 19:40And it's interesting 'cause I, I came to a realization today.
- 19:44And the realization is sometimes people, they, they start to
- 19:51impact you and you don't know that they've impacted you until
- 19:54long after they've impacted you. So you start making changes to
- 19:59what you're doing. You just think it's your own
- 20:02natural evolution. And then you look back and go,
- 20:04wait a second. It's, it's that person and that
- 20:08person and what they've been saying that I somehow it's
- 20:12morphed how I'm doing things. It's.
- 20:15Their fault, not yours. It is 100% their fault and
- 20:18there's a lot of people at fault for this modern, this modern
- 20:21kick that I'm on. And don't get me wrong, guys, I
- 20:24mean, if you say it was so he's a modern collector now.
- 20:27No, like these weren't cheap. These these cards that I just
- 20:30bought weren't cheap. And I am definitely I'm not a
- 20:34modern collector. I feel like I'm I've broadened a
- 20:37little bit, but I want to take you through and I'm planning on
- 20:43doing a whole video on this next week.
- 20:45So I'm going to expand on it, but I just want to briefly throw
- 20:47this out there. So let me get this off the
- 20:50screen. I want to briefly throw this out
- 20:54there. So Chris Hoge, now you know,
- 20:58I'll say right now, Chris Hoge Card Ladder is a sponsor of my
- 21:02channel, not a sponsor of Sports Card Clubhouse, although we
- 21:06would be open to that if Chris was interested.
- 21:09We would definitely be open to that, I believe, right?
- 21:12We, I started using car ladder in November, so about four
- 21:17months ago. And I would say that every day
- 21:20my affinity for car ladder increases.
- 21:25I and I have a video that I've been thinking about doing that I
- 21:30think will be maybe it's maybe we'll do it on April, April
- 21:32Fool's Day where the title is, I'm obsessed with card values
- 21:37because I kind of am. Honestly, ever since I started
- 21:40using card ladder, I use it every single day I go in and I
- 21:45had never cared about what the value of my cards were, but now
- 21:47I'm just like, oh, this is really interesting.
- 21:50And I don't know if I like that part of how I use cart letter or
- 21:54not. And that's not a that's not them
- 21:56problem. It's a me problem.
- 21:58But yeah, I love, I love cart letter.
- 22:00I use it everyday for many things.
- 22:03And, and one of the things about the values that's interesting to
- 22:08me, and this is, you know, a lot of people are anti value.
- 22:11Great, that's fine. I, I, I don't have, I really
- 22:13don't have a problem with that. My, my thing about card values
- 22:18is like that pinnacle artist proof card that we were just
- 22:22looking at. Like part of the reason that
- 22:24values are interesting to me is it's interesting why some things
- 22:28are valuable and some things aren't.
- 22:31So sometimes I'll, I'll look at card ladder and, and I'll find a
- 22:34car go that's a really good looking card.
- 22:37The population is low, but it's only worth 80 bucks.
- 22:42Like why is it only selling for 80 bucks?
- 22:46And those are some of the cards that I've been targeting are the
- 22:48anomalies. And so part of all this data
- 22:51that I just had on the screen, all of this over here, the
- 22:54populations, the comps, the, the every, all of this is 100% from
- 23:01card ladder. And I've, that is interesting to
- 23:05me is why are some things valuable and some things not?
- 23:09Like who decided that? But back to what Hoge was
- 23:12saying. So Hoge, about a year ago, he
- 23:15started using this quote over and over and over.
- 23:17And I think this is really interesting and I really want to
- 23:19hear your take on this. Doctor is a Doctor Beckett
- 23:23quote, he said. And he's he's probably, I
- 23:26probably heard him refer to this quote at least a half a dozen
- 23:29times. And the quote was Doctor Beckett
- 23:32was at a table and he was talking to the dealer.
- 23:35And Doctor Beckett said to the dealer, I don't want the cards
- 23:39that you're selling. I want the cards that you're not
- 23:42selling. And Hoge is referred to that
- 23:45repeatedly because it's like, yes, the stuff that you're
- 23:49selling, you know, is OK to let go.
- 23:52But the stuff that you're holding back, there's a reason
- 23:55you're holding it back. That's the stuff that I want.
- 23:59And what Hoge has been on this kind of kick of saying recently
- 24:03and talking about is buy cards where the grade doesn't even
- 24:09matter. It doesn't matter what the grade
- 24:11of the card is when it's the card that's special, not the
- 24:16grade. There are some cards, an 83
- 24:20Fleer Wade Boggs it it's it's it's so common of a card.
- 24:26The only time you go, oh, wow, is when it's a 10.
- 24:29The grade made it special. But there are some cards that
- 24:33are special. Even if the grade was a six, if
- 24:37this Derek Jeter Essential Credentials was a six, it would
- 24:40still be an extremely special card, regardless of the grade.
- 24:45This Teddy Roosevelt. Yeah, and you don't care, do
- 24:49you? Not remotely.
- 24:50In fact, I like them as that because I can crack them out and
- 24:52put them into one touches. Yeah, this, this Teddy Roosevelt
- 24:56is A2. I could, I couldn't care less
- 24:59because just the existence of that card is what makes the card
- 25:02special. So I started thinking about all
- 25:05the cards I've been buying over the last few months and they
- 25:10kind of have this same thing in common.
- 25:13When I went to the West Coast card show, I bought a sitting
- 25:15bowl 1888 Allen and Ginter card. It's thrashed it'll get a one at
- 25:20best, but it's special because of what it is.
- 25:25My Brooks Robinson autographed rookie card that I didn't think
- 25:28I'd ever get rid of my regular Brooks Robinson rookie card, but
- 25:31I wanted this autographed one because that autograph in that
- 25:35place, that was a younger autograph made it special.
- 25:39Didn't matter that the card has issues.
- 25:42That's what Tony's been doing, is buying auto cards because
- 25:45they're special regardless of the condition.
- 25:49Is that something for you as a collector that you think a lot
- 25:54about of do you just go, I like the looks of that, I want it?
- 26:01How much does it's special because of its existence instead
- 26:06of its special because of the grade?
- 26:09How much does that play into what you do?
- 26:12Because I feel like it's starting to really play a lot
- 26:14into what I do. I like cool cards.
- 26:17So on Adam's list, it's all these really rare Pedro cards,
- 26:22rare and popular and just really awesome cards.
- 26:27But then he has one of them that isn't remotely rare and he just
- 26:31says this isn't rare, but it's really cool and shiny or
- 26:36something like that. And and it is, I look at him
- 26:38like, man, that and it's a 20. Dollar Pacific is a Pacific
- 26:41card. No, I.
- 26:43Don't. He loves the shiny Pacific
- 26:44cards, but go. Ahead, yeah, I don't remember
- 26:46what it is, but yeah, for sure I some people like cards that are
- 26:52rare. They don't care about who the
- 26:56card is of they don't care about the demand for the card.
- 27:00They just want a rare card. I want cool cards.
- 27:05I want cards that when I see them, I say, oh man, that is
- 27:08such a cool card. And I like in demand cards too.
- 27:13So like Griffey's 89 Upper Deck card, it's famous and I want it.
- 27:18And that's the whole concept behind my attainable collection
- 27:22of Envy 100 cards. Is there cards that everybody
- 27:25knows? There are cards that everybody
- 27:28could aspire to. There's no Harness Wagner T2O6
- 27:31in there. It's some of them are out of
- 27:33reach for me included. But I'm yeah, I'm definitely
- 27:37into those. And you talked about the cards
- 27:40you wanting the cards that are not for sale.
- 27:43And I've been, I noticed that I'm searching for important
- 27:48Pedro cards in my in all over eBay and I started noticing that
- 27:54a lot of them have the same seller and his the cellar store
- 27:59is called unparalleled collectibles.
- 28:02And it's, it is bonkers Greg. So you know, I'm just looking
- 28:05through all this guy's Pedro has a page dedicated to Pedro on his
- 28:09eBay store. And it's, it's insane.
- 28:11So I, I messaged him and I said, hey, I assume you're in New
- 28:15England. I'm in Maine.
- 28:17I'd love to see your collection. And you know, you have this
- 28:21insane Pedro collection. He said.
- 28:23To be honest, this what's listed on eBay is just a small portion
- 28:28of my collection that made me go, oh man, I need to see this.
- 28:34What is he holding back? What is he not selling?
- 28:37It's got to be huge. Well, you know that Adam
- 28:41Splendid Sports has one of the best Pedro collections on earth.
- 28:46Like it's insane. You should do like a like an
- 28:50episode where you have both of them on and you should, Yeah, go
- 28:55ahead. I wanna, I wanna go to Adam's
- 28:58and film his hobby room. I think if I remember correctly,
- 29:02I just asked him fairly recently, I think he said he's
- 29:04not not ready for that yet. Yeah, well, he just moved.
- 29:08He just moved and he's got younger kids and you know.
- 29:11Yeah, I'm not. I just moved into this room 7
- 29:14months ago and I'm not ready yet.
- 29:15It's I've had no time to work on it.
- 29:19Yeah, I, I, I, I think that and, and back to the whole, you know,
- 29:24getting into the shinier stuff, 'cause I know a lot of our
- 29:29audience are vintage collectors and, and they're, you know, kind
- 29:32of going, Oh my gosh, I can't believe this.
- 29:34These guys, these guys were like us and now they're into this.
- 29:39They're yeah. Like, like, like there's, there
- 29:41has to be an element of of our audience going like you didn't
- 29:48used to like that stuff. And I did, though I've always
- 29:51liked it. I've just, I've just brought you
- 29:54over to the dark side. Well, it was a lot of guy.
- 29:57It was Shane Shewock's Legends, it was Brent Richards, it was
- 30:01Brian High Pop, it was you, it was Adam, it was Dylan.
- 30:05I mean, it was a lot of these guys.
- 30:07And and I think it it, I don't think and and I did an episode
- 30:13on this like a week and a half ago on my channel.
- 30:16I called it or maybe it was like a week ago is like have you ever
- 30:20considered a new portal or a new like arm of your collection with
- 30:25new things The the brothers duo call it a new branch of their
- 30:29bonsai tree. Like is there a new direction
- 30:32that you Cuz I'm having a blast with this.
- 30:35This does not mean that I don't like what I have been collecting
- 30:39for years. It doesn't mean that I'm going
- 30:42to go to Strongsville and I'm not interested in trying to get
- 30:46a Lou Gehrig card anymore or an Appalachia way card.
- 30:49Like I still want those too. I just think that this this is
- 30:54something I want in addition. And it is really been fun to
- 30:59learn about. I've loved digging into it and
- 31:02and researching it. And like with that, is there a
- 31:08new branch? Is there a new portal for you
- 31:12that you've recently or are considering?
- 31:16Like you're mostly baseball, except for the attainable list
- 31:21that's got a lot of like you've even got some figure skater
- 31:24cards and things, but which is, which are really cool by the
- 31:28way. And but but like have you, do
- 31:32you have anything that you're kind?
- 31:35Is there anything starting to itch a little bit and you're
- 31:37like, I maybe I need to scratch that itch a little bit?
- 31:40Yeah, so I I noticed that there was AI don't remember what what
- 31:45Cardinal 54 Bowman color, Johnny Pesky autograph some 50, you
- 31:53know, early to mid 50s Johnny Pesky.
- 31:55And Johnny Pesky is a Red Sox legend, could have been a Hall
- 31:59of Famer if it weren't for WAR. You know, he's, he would have
- 32:02been borderline, but but then worked for the Red Sox for
- 32:06decades. And I was at Johnny Pesky game,
- 32:10I don't know, 20 years ago maybe.
- 32:12I don't know how long ago it was.
- 32:14And his autographs from the early 50s are so cheap. 52 tops,
- 32:20I think was what it was. And then I was like, well, how
- 32:24many cards could Johnny Pesky possibly have?
- 32:27And it's not that many. And I thought, what if I just
- 32:30start collecting all of them autographed?
- 32:33So it's not, it's not like branching out beyond what, you
- 32:36know, baseball. But it is a new sub collection.
- 32:40I'm constantly doing this and I hate myself for, but I also love
- 32:43it. It keeps things interesting.
- 32:45I never get bored. There's always something.
- 32:47I love players like that, that the franchise and the fans and
- 32:54the diehards of the franchise just love, but they're not going
- 32:59to get in the Hall of Fame. Like most people have never
- 33:01heard of Johnny Pesky. They've heard of the Pesky Pole,
- 33:04of course, but you've never heard of him.
- 33:06And it keeps his cards really inexpensive, which I love.
- 33:09Yankee fans love Paul O'Neill. Like if you ever look at like
- 33:14Paul O'Neill's last game in Yankee Stadium, they're chanting
- 33:18Paul O'Neill so loud. So he's just crying in right
- 33:22field, like, you know, and he's not a Hall of Famer.
- 33:24He's very good. But those guys as kind of
- 33:28gamers, there's something about those guys that it's, it's
- 33:33pretty cool. It's pretty cool to, to kind of
- 33:36have those little, you know, I, I know that Adam Vintage
- 33:40Sanctuary, he collects a lot of the, he calls him Yankee
- 33:44contributors, like during the early 50s when they were really
- 33:47good, like, you know, Allie Reynolds and stuff where they
- 33:51were important players, but they're not the household name
- 33:55guys and, and I think that's pretty cool.
- 33:58Paula Neal batted left-handed through right-handed.
- 34:04No. Left-handed.
- 34:06Yeah, he was left-handed. What?
- 34:07What foot did he kick with? What?
- 34:12Why are you asking me this? Is there something I'm
- 34:14forgetting? Yeah, go go to his baseball
- 34:18reference page. OK, the you know.
- 34:21Where it says bats, left throws left kicks.
- 34:28Does it? I'm pretty sure it does.
- 34:31It does and then. Click on the link.
- 34:34So bats left throws, left kicks, left click on the link.
- 34:40I'm going to pull it up on the screen for everybody.
- 34:42Hold on. Oh, I remember that now.
- 34:46I remember that now it's. A fun call O'Neill fact.
- 34:50Let's see if it'll it's not wanting to show it.
- 34:53It does its thing where when I share a screen.
- 34:56Hold on, let me see if I can see if I can share the screen here
- 35:02now. Here it is.
- 35:04I got it in the comments for not remembering if he threw
- 35:06right-handed or left-handed. I know.
- 35:07Oh, you are for sure. I was like starting to second
- 35:10guess from someone like what are you talking about?
- 35:11He's left-handed. All right, here we go.
- 35:13Let's watch it. They said right field but
- 35:18they're going to have to hold Jelts at 3rd going out of
- 35:21August. Away from.
- 35:22O'Neill and it worked. It did, it was great.
- 35:26Got a Steve Jelts appearance too for TJS online absolute.
- 35:30All timer. He kicked.
- 35:31The ball to Todd Benzinger. Todd Benzinger all.
- 35:36Time play I may have ever seen. It's funny.
- 35:41It's funny because Paul O'Neill, even when he went to the
- 35:44Yankees, he lived in Cincinnati. And I actually have this quick,
- 35:50funny Paul O'Neill story. It's not that funny, But my
- 35:54brother went to college at the University of Cincinnati and my
- 35:58brother was a musical theater major.
- 36:02And so my brother, whenever there was any sort of big show
- 36:05in Cincinnati, my brother would be added or in it or something,
- 36:10and many times he would be sitting down the aisle from Paul
- 36:15O'Neill. Paul O'Neill went to all this
- 36:17stuff, 'cause I think his wife was really in the theater.
- 36:20And he said every time Paul just looked like he was absolutely
- 36:24miserable at the show, but he was there for his wife.
- 36:27And he, my brother, just got such a kick out of it, how he
- 36:30would be there, but he looked miserable.
- 36:32And he never went up and said something to him, but he just
- 36:34got a kick out of that so. I also am not a.
- 36:38Theater person. I'm not either.
- 36:41I'm not either. My brother, you know, he got
- 36:44into it when he was real young, like maybe 4th or 5th grade,
- 36:48ended up majoring in it. Now he's a him and his wife and
- 36:51kids live about two hours north of me.
- 36:55And he's a professor at a university in Northern
- 36:59California now. So yeah, he's made a career out
- 37:02of it. But yeah.
- 37:05So anyway, Paul O'Neill kicks left.
- 37:07That's funny. That's really funny.
- 37:11I don't even know what we were talking about, but the Hoge
- 37:14thing, I really, I really feel like that's an undercurrent
- 37:20right now for me of as I'm analyzing what I'm into and what
- 37:25I'm not into is if the grade matters for the card, then it,
- 37:32it may not be a card that is as interesting to me is a card
- 37:40where the grade doesn't matter. And you know, I, I recently
- 37:44bought my Isaac Murphy Goodwin champion card.
- 37:47It's a one. It doesn't matter.
- 37:50You know, I, I have a Thomas Edison N 76 card.
- 37:57Doesn't matter to two. Like it just doesn't matter.
- 38:00And those cards where the grade doesn't matter, there's
- 38:04something about those. And a card like this, this
- 38:09mirror gold card, like it's not rare, but this is an 8.
- 38:14I didn't, it wouldn't matter if it was an 8 or A10 to me.
- 38:17I I just think it's cool. So, all right, you got anything
- 38:22else? We're 38 minutes in.
- 38:24You got anything else that you need to get out there off your
- 38:27chest before we move on? I'm good.
- 38:30OK, well, then I guess we'll call it a wrap.
- 38:34I do want to throw out a couple of thank yous, Jake of Wax Pack
- 38:39Wisdom and Matt of Matt from Providence.
- 38:43Those guys, yeah, they're both great guys.
- 38:47And they, you know, Jake, the hosts, their ongoing hit list
- 38:53episodes, which if you're not subscribed to Jake at Wax Pack
- 38:56Wisdom yet, you're missing out because just the hit list
- 38:59episodes alone are fantastic. And we reached out to them
- 39:03couple months ago and we said, hey, what if you did a little
- 39:07bonus at the end? You recorded a little extra
- 39:10bonus segment. And we hosted it over on the
- 39:12Sports Card Clubhouse YouTube channel and they and, and
- 39:16podcasts and they were like, yeah, let's do it.
- 39:19And they've been awesome. And then we reached out to to
- 39:24Mike Petty and Tony Lebrik and 'cause they do their Odd Couple
- 39:29episode and they just had their first one posted this past
- 39:35Thursday on the channel on the Sports Card Clubhouse channel.
- 39:38So that was awesome. There's a couple other channels
- 39:43that were talking about doing it.
- 39:45Nothing has happened yet, but I just love involving extra, extra
- 39:50people. And I think that it's very cool
- 39:53that those guys are willing to, you know, pump out some extra
- 39:55stuff to, to share with the the community that we have over
- 39:59here. So I wanted to throw out a quick
- 40:02thank you to them and tell them how fantastic they've been and
- 40:05and how much we appreciate it. Yeah, all those guys are
- 40:09phenomenal, Jake, Great, great guy.
- 40:12Matt top three dealer in New England, which you probably
- 40:16think big deal, but there are a lot of dealers in New England
- 40:19and Matt's top three in my opinion.
- 40:24Tony amazing guy, amazing collection.
- 40:27Same with petty. They both, I mean, they're such
- 40:29a perfect fit because they're so opposite personality wise and
- 40:33Jake and and Matt also opposites personality wise.
- 40:37And it's, it's, it's a lot of fun to watch or listen to both
- 40:40of those. Are we opposite personality wise
- 40:43because we're people say we're a good fit?
- 40:45I think that we are. I think we're a good fit, but I
- 40:49don't think we're opposite personality wise.
- 40:51I think we we complement each other in different ways.
- 40:56OK, most it's probably that I'm so smart and handsome and you're
- 41:00not. No argument.
- 41:05I have no argument there. Oh boy.
- 41:09All right. Well, I, I, I will say this, I
- 41:12have an interview on Monday, so next week you'll have to ask me
- 41:16how it went. Yeah, good luck.
- 41:18Could be some changes going on in my life.
- 41:21So I'll leave that tease for next week.
- 41:24All right, buddy, off we go. Another one in the books.
- 41:27I think we're up to about 28 or 29 now.
- 41:29So feels like just yesterday that this all started.
- 41:35Yeah.
