  [rock music] Hey, everybody.
• 0:28
Welcome to Full Spectrum Cycling. This is show number 269, dude. 69. Nice. That was a total Chris Treater nice right there. [laughs] Is that how he does it? Mm-hmm. Nice. Well, it was hot. [sighs] Heck yeah, it was.
• 0:46
Still is. Hopefully, hopefully it's not anymore today. Not as. Right? Tomorrow's supposed to be lovely. That was yesterday, dude. Or yesterday- [laughs]... Internet time. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
• 0:59
Uh, Tony's back in the studio after his Sheboygan run. Got JK over there representing Ireland, man. Yeah, twice. I didn't even realize it. But it's all- All-... it's all in functionality though. Right on.
• 1:12
And it's soaked wet. Mm. By design, because it's a wise thing to do. Oh, keeps you cool? Oh, yeah. It's like, it, it's like the, it's like the old school southern air conditioner- Yeah, swamp-...
• 1:23
where you just put like a wet sheet up in the window- Yeah... and let it blow through there. Let it blow through. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it worked very well yesterday. Swamp cooler. Swamp cooler. All it does is, like...
• 1:32
It's, I guess it's already 100% humidity anyway in there- Right. So you might as just-... so it doesn't really matter... deal with it. Yeah, for sure. It's a delightful, delightful hack. Oh.
• 1:40
But I always forget about it until about this time of year. And then it's like, "Ah- That-... this would've been so damn brilliant." [laughs] Having suffered through the last two, three? Yeah, exactly.
• 1:51
It's like- You know where that would've been nice was, uh, Backyard BBQ. Yeah. Yeah. It was, uh... It wasn't too bad yet. It was toasty though. It was warm. It was toasty. But it wasn't, it wasn't gruesome warm yet.
• 2:02
That was WMSE's Backyard BBQ, by the way. That's right, it was. It was- And it was fantastic. It was a good show. I, uh, for some, a band I'm not familiar with, I was happy that that's- Yeah...
• 2:12
who they got, because it was awesome. Um- Oh, Guided by Voices? Guided by Voices. Yeah. I'm not super familiar with them, but- Oh... I liked all the noises they made.
• 2:19
I feel that they were a little upset that people didn't really know anything until they pulled out Teenage FBI. [laughs] Yeah. Well, we looked at the set list and, and JK said- [laughs]... "I don't know who..."
• 2:31
Something. I, I know Teenage FBI and Hey, Hey, Black Girl. I mean, that's their, that's their two hit songs and let's face it, that was their... Yeah, uh, Teenage FBI was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
• 2:42
They're probably still getting royalties from it. That's- That's probably why they're still existing. Could be, yeah. So shut up and play it. Right. 'Cause it's great. Yeah.
• 2:49
So th- I noticed that, uh, the lead singer, the lead Bob, Bob, Bob, the main Bob, uh, did the Roger Daltrey mic trick. Mm-hmm. He likes to do that. Right? And I...
• 3:02
One of the guitar players was doing the Townsend windmill and the bass player was doing the, like- Terribly upright. Well, and put his- T-Rex...
• 3:10
and putting, and putting his foot on his leg like, like balancing like, which I can't do 'cause I'm gonna fall down, 'cause that's my bad ankle over there. Mm-hmm. Um, but yeah, they did a lot of rock god looking things.
• 3:22
They've been together for th- 35 years? They have 35 albums. I think it's 40 years they've been together. It's probably 40 then. Yeah. Yeah, they have, they've, they're very prolific. They do rock god stuff.
• 3:32
I think the best show was Buffalo Nickel. Oh, yeah. I think if, what- That will, that's gonna be a regular thing for me to see. Oh, yeah. I would like to see it indoors, in the dark- Absolutely...
• 3:42
and more atmospheric, because I think being in the daytime, it sort of lost some of its...
• 3:48
You know, w- I think what he's doing before the actual song, all the atmospheric stuff, is kind of him getting his instruments to sound the way he wants- Mm-hmm...
• 3:56
and getting tuned up, but he's using that as cover for it, which is awesome. And I just think that would be really cool with good lighting and good- Yeah... you know, good darkness, you know, in the club or whatever.
• 4:07
The whole show was great though- Yeah... the whole day. Had a lot of beer. We got there, we got there- He kept his snark down too, is...
• 4:13
He, he pulled a good snark at The Vivarium, one of the first shows, right at the end, when he's just like, "I just want you all to be good to each other and treat each other well,
• 4:22
and I want you to shut the fuck up while I'm playing this song." [laughs] It was like, yeah, dude. Yeah, I think- Yeah, I thought I-... that's the vibe. That's the vibe... it was a good, for...
• 4:30
When I got there, I got there about 3:30, so I think two bands had already played. Yeah. But I saw Nuski. That was- Yeah, I landed at Nuski. Nuski was good. He's good. Jinxie was good. He's good. Yeah.
• 4:40
Jinxie always is good. Uh, uh, I'm always a fan of- Yeah, that's, that's a-... running into them... that's a good live show. That is definitely a good live show. And Exotics always is- Yeah, also a g-... a jam...
• 4:49
good live show. But- But I know I can run into The Exotics- Anywhere... again. Kochanski's. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So sandwiching WMSE's Backyard BBQ was Strummer Fest on the Friday. Yes. Yeah.
• 5:01
It was- My nephew's band played. Oh, yeah? Which one? I don't know who it was. It's, uh- The, The Joneses? Well, I should find out. I'll let you know. Well, well, there were nine bands, all doing- Obscure Birds?
• 5:10
Probably. It sounds like him. Obscure Birds. I think they're playing tonight somewhere. All doing, uh, Joe Strummer or Joe Strummer adjacent music. Yeah. Clash. I think they st- they stuck a mixed song in there maybe.
• 5:23
Yeah, they, they did sneak a big Audio Dynamite surprisingly in there. Yeah. And I was like, "Eh." But, uh, of the ni- I think they did between, like, three and five songs per band. Yeah. And it was awesome.
• 5:33
Oh, it was, uh... Yeah. Except for standing up for four hours straight, because my, my back was not thrilled with that anymore. Uh, and my back, thank you chiropractor Steven, um, on the hill
• 5:46
for Back, Backyard BBQ, yeah, that did my back in. That's why I brought that chair. Yeah, that was a nice chair. It was a good chair. I brought it back for you. Thank you.
• 5:54
Thanks for carrying it all the way home on your cargo bike for me. Yeah, it was hard, man. The thing weighs a lot. [laughs] I wanna get one of those new, uh, click chairs. You just kind of go wha- pop- Yeah...
• 6:03
and it turns into a chair. Otherwise it looks like a water bottle kind of thing Oh, like Roswell alien material? Yeah, you just go, "Crap." Deep groove, right? Yeah, yeah. They're t- they're spendy.
• 6:12
[laughs] And I guess if I'm only using a chair a couple times a year, it probably doesn't make sense.
• 6:16
But [sniffs] that, uh, that travel chair I have has been used on a lot of camping trips, and- Oh, yeah, that's a nice chair...
• 6:21
yeah, it's very good for backpacking when there's- Wasn't sure what was in that bag when I got up the next morning... compact. I'm like, "What's inside my bag?"
• 6:26
[laughs] Thought, thought it was like a dialysis machine or- Or a bunch of condoms or something... something... I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. Sex toys. Yeah.
• 6:34
Oh, and um, it was enjoyable watching, uh, Daniel create his own mosh pits, chasing the- Yes... uh, the beach ball. [laughs] You... I'm just like- He, he was not-... he's gotten through...
• 6:43
he was not gonna let that ball go. No. No, no. It, uh, was on my kitchen floor the next morning. [laughs] There you go. Flat- There you go... but it was on my kitchen floor. I'm surprised it didn't flat out there.
• 6:52
Oh, it did. I blew it up several times. Oh. You know what you, what... Next time we do a show like that- It should have been one...
• 6:55
and Daniel's there and there's a beach ball, we gotta get, like, an action cam on him, just one of those little Insta360s or something and- Let him run around? Oh, man...
• 7:02
put it right on his head like a unicorn horn and just let him bash through the crowd with it. I don't know what occurred, but I know that the, uh, my d- my, my, uh, [laughs] my humble part [laughs]
• 7:12
music nemesis, the guy with the, the head- Oh, God, he's annoying... uh, on it. Yeah. Isn't he, though? I, I, but I think there was- What, what-...
• 7:19
there was something, there was something involved with the flight plan of a Daniel and/or review. He, you know, I think- And it stopped...
• 7:27
the whole deal is, is he misjudged the fact that Daniel's only four because he's so big. He had no idea he was autistic, which adds to it, but man, did he throw that guy's water bottle, like, 80 yards or what?
• 7:39
[laughs] He, he was so sick- Good, I didn't-... of this guy trying to put it on his head... it wasn't the audience. I w- I wanted- Yeah. Yeah, I was like, "Well, it's- But, but so this guy, this guy- La...
• 7:45
irritates a lot of concertgoers by dancing in front of the crowd with a bottle on his head. And he's endearing to many of them- Yeah... as well. Go down. Yeah. That's a delicate balance. Get the fuck out of here.
• 7:54
So Daniel did exactly what I wanted to do- Yes... is take that bottle off his head and throw it as far as I could. And he did. [laughs] Twice. That's good stuff right- The guy didn't learn the first time, I guess...
• 8:06
that's good stuff right there. I, I had a feeling that that was kind of the i- what happened, and it just made me smile.
• 8:12
The guy tried to put it on a second time, Daniel just like, wha-bam, and it's flying through the air. That's nice. And I'm like, "Yep, sorry, buddy." That's ya boy. Yeah.
• 8:20
[laughs] And like- You l- you learned him, you learned him good... in most circumstances I would go over and apologize, but this time I'm like, "Yeah, just go with the kid. Don't worry about it."
• 8:27
[laughs] We'll see him again next year. [laughs] So on the, on the other end of the weekend was, uh, Chris's slow roll. I missed that. Which, I don't know what year this is. This is probably six or seven, give or take.
• 8:40
Anyway. Somewhere in there. Could be. I don't think it's '10. It might... Eh, eh, I don't know. I know we did the- It's lost... first-ish one. Yeah. So- Like, started in that one. What keeps flashing by you?
• 8:50
It's freaking me out. What? Your phone or something's flashing. What? The sun. Where? I don't know. I just saw phew. Where? What? No, the- Like a strobe. Oh, is it that light? Light bar. I don't know. Maybe.
• 9:01
Um- Did you see it, too? No. No, I just see a light bar right there. Uh, we'll talk about, uh, Chris's slow roll after- We talk to Chris? After we take this call. This is Chris. It, is it Chris? It could be.
• 9:12
Hey, hey, welcome to the radio program caller. Who do we have on the line? Am I your flashing dot that everybody sees? [laughs] Pretty sure. You're, you're always a flashing dot, Chris. Hey, everybody.
• 9:25
[laughs] I'm a flash in the pan. What's up? There's, there's a voice we haven't heard on the old radio program for a while. Oh. Chris Daisy, everybody. Woo-hoo. No kidding. Do- It's me...
• 9:34
our, our in-studio audience is going nuts over here, Chris, just so you know. [laughs] [laughs] [sighs] Panties are being thrown. So, uh, for those that just to br- [laughs]...
• 9:45
just to bring everybody up to speed with, with Chris, was, uh, many, many years at Zion Cyclery, and, uh, during the pandemic you had the opportunity to step away. How'd that, uh, come about?
• 9:58
Uh, everybody went bike crazy and bought every single bike we had and then some.
• 10:04
[laughs] [laughs] So it was kind of a golden opportunity to sell the rest of what I had remaining and, uh, step on to different things and, uh, not work weekends so much. Nice. Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
• 10:20
So it was like a once in a lifetime thing. If it wouldn't have happened that way, you'd still be doing that now, wouldn't you? Probably. M- most likely, yes. Yeah. [laughs] [laughs] Yeah. Probably.
• 10:30
I was just, I was just thinking back to how long I've actually known you, since you were, like, 17, so 30 plus years. Yeah.
• 10:39
And, uh- Yeah, I definitely put enough years into the bike industry, so if I wanted to call it quits, I don't think anybody would've, you know, frowned on it too hard, so [laughs] Right on.
• 10:49
So, uh, what, what, what's been going on since then in your, in your work life and/or other things?
• 10:56
I m- one of the reasons that just got me to wanna touch base again is your new, uh, band, Distant Eye, but before we get to that, maybe, you know, I know you opened a, another business, so how's, how's that going?
• 11:10
Yeah, I did, uh, a little, uh, thing called Crazy Laser. It's a laser tag place. Um, we had, like, glow in the dark dodgeball and arcade games and things and, uh, that's been running for about three years.
• 11:23
But, um, my ADHD won't let go, so I'm g- closing that up as well. [laughs] [laughs] All right. Mo- moving on. Moving on. But, you know, it was- Moving on...
• 11:34
I w- I went from one, I went from one weekend heavy job, like, straight into another one, and I'm like, "Okay." And all of a sudden my kids are entering junior high, and I'm, like, 51 years old.
• 11:44
I'm like, "Whoa, wait a second." Like, uh, I've only got a few years left here before the kids fly the coop, and then I'll have, uh, all the time in the world to- Want mine? Yeah... yeah, right... you know? I'm...
• 11:56
Well, To- Tony and I are both, uh, losing a kid to the college scene- Tomorrow... this year. Yeah, my son moves in the dorms tomorrow, and so does- Oh... Tony's daughter, so yeah.
• 12:04
But if you need a four-year-old, Chris, I can ship him your way[laughs] Yeah. No, I know. I'm, I'm sure...
• 12:12
I'm, I'm dreading that day where it's like, yeah, they're both gone and I'm an empty nester and just sitting in this house empty.
• 12:18
And it's like, okay, I'm, I'm, I wanna look back and know that I made the most of the time. So it's, uh, it's no regrets.
• 12:24
I mean, it was a decent business, but a lot of work, a lot of hardcore back to back to back screaming kids' birthday parties that will get to any man over time. [laughs] Yeah, man. Like one day for me. Yeah. Yeah.
• 12:37
[laughs] I always thought, you know, like a business like that, I, I had this idea for, uh, for doing a, uh, a remote control car-oriented business where I would travel and do birthday parties and stuff, and I'm like, "Oh, I'll set it up, and I'll tech the cars up, and I'll make sure that track is top-notch.
• 12:51
But I'm gonna need like, uh, somebody that wants to be a teacher from UWM or something to actually run the kid part of the show," because I would like- [laughs]...
• 13:01
I don't think, I don't think that's my scene for, you know, a bunch of... I just don't have the, the brain capacity for it, I guess.
• 13:08
[laughs] Well, ironically, the, uh, place, uh, uh, in that same location that I'm at now, prior to the laser tag, was an RC track. Oh, cool. Oh, rad.
• 13:19
Um, but a little, a little bit more like adult-orientated, uh, well, adult and kids.
• 13:24
But, uh, it's funny, the drummer in my band and his son used to do it, and he said the problem with those places is everybody would start racing at a certain location, and then, like, eventually, all these kind of fights would break out, and over time, everybody [laughs] would stop going.
• 13:40
Wow. No, I mean, many- Like, like grown men fighting each other over toy cars. [laughs] Right. Yeah, for sure.
• 13:46
Many years ago, uh, in the nut factory where, where I c- collapsed back into after the retail shop, uh, closed, uh, we had a rock crawling, uh, course and some smaller scale RC stuff that it was like a club.
• 13:59
We, I had, like eight or 10 guys would come once a month. It wasn't like a full, a full-fledged decent business, but it, it was a lot of fun. I'm sure... [laughs] You know? Yeah. You gotta have some place to go play.
• 14:11
Yeah. Oh, absolutely. But yeah, as you mentioned, I mean, that and the other thing has been, uh, getting a new band together.
• 14:19
Um, I'm playing with a original drummer I've been playing with for many years, um, Mark Rotundi, probably going on, oof, 13, 15 years now. I'd have to count them up.
• 14:31
Uh, um, but then a friend of mine, Russ Bice, playing guitar, a guy I hadn't seen in almost a couple of decades, and then we kind of reconnected and started playing some music together again.
• 14:43
Um, and then we kind of stumbled across this bass player. He wandered into the laser tag place one day with his kids, and we got to talking and realized that, uh, I knew him from way, way back. And, uh,
• 14:55
weirdly enough, his grandfather and my grandfather were actually in a wedding band together, uh, way back in the day. [laughs] Wow. Well, and if, if you're, if you're- And so I was like, "Wow."
• 15:05
I'm like, "I hope you're really good, dude, because that's a really cool story, and I wanna be able to talk about that." [laughs] So luckily, he's, he's a good bass player, and, uh, it's working out real good.
• 15:14
His name is Todd Rutledge. And, uh, his dad knows my dad, and it's like three generations of musicians that have- That's cool... kind of played around with each other, uh, off and on, yeah, this area.
• 15:25
Does your, does your dad- Yeah, worked it out- Does he-... and, uh, recorded about seven songs and got them kinda stamped out and out into the world now. Cool. Um, did- Just having some fun. Does your dad play also?
• 15:37
Yeah, he's a drummer. Oh, right on. Uh, he played around, uh... Yeah, yeah, him and my grandfather were in a wedding band also together in the '60s, and, uh, um, yeah, come kind of from a long line of, uh,
• 15:51
musical gypsies. [laughs] So, uh, w- I know have, we've all listened to the album, right? Yep. Yep. Yep. I'm trying to put my finger on how- Yeah...
• 16:01
I would describe it to somebody who hasn't heard it yet, and I'm not sure. Maybe- Well-... JK can paint a word picture a little better than I can. I was get...
• 16:09
Like, right off track one, it, and I had it in the, in my head before, but there was a very, like a Chili Peppers bass line vibe, and like, what the hell song was it? Oh, it was driving me nuts.
• 16:25
So the band is called Distant Eye- Short trip... right? Yeah. I know. I know. I know. Yes. I gotta listen to it quickly again. And it's on, uh, you, you're on Bandcamp.
• 16:32
I got a link in the show notes so people can check it out. Um, what got me excited- It's Bandcamp, too. Uh, it'll be out on, like, Spotify and all the big ones too there.
• 16:40
We just, uh, I uploaded it a few days ago, and it takes a little time to- Sweet... make its way through the interwebs. Right on. Um, I had... [laughs] I don't know.
• 16:48
I, I kept telling people, "Yeah, Chris is gonna be playing this show. I think it's on Thursday or something." It, I guess it's actually on Saturday, the s- the 7th, right, in Kenosha? Oh, yeah, yeah. It's a...
• 16:58
That, that's gonna be a really fun, uh, show. So this Saturday, September 7th at Paddy O's in Kenosha. They have a big, like, backyard area. It's gonna be an outdoor gig. There'll be a whole bunch of bands, uh- Cool...
• 17:09
a couple of food trucks. There's also stuff going on across the street at White Lilac, I believe, like some, uh, uh, electronic music. Um, there'll be a whole bunch of artists, art vendors. Cool.
• 17:20
I'm actually gonna be selling, uh, paintings. I'm gonna be getting back into art and painting and that kind of weird stuff. I'll send you a photo to throw in the show notes. I'm- Nice...
• 17:29
specializing right now in local Wisconsin fish. [laughs] Awesome. Well, now that you're- Eating crappies. Now that you're- Crappies. Couple smallmouth bass. [laughs] I'm not- Yeah.
• 17:40
I'm not sure it matters, but, uh, now that you're in Wisconsin, maybe, uh, maybe you can do something for the WMSC art auction. Yeah, you should. 'Cause you're... I mean, I- Oh, yeah...
• 17:49
you've been doing art for so long, it, it's so... I've- You've done a lot of great stuff that I've seen, and I know that you're very versatile. I- And we know people at WMSC. Yeah, it'd be a fun thing. All right.
• 18:00
Yeah, send me an info, and I'll, uh, I'll look into that. Look into that, yeah. Um- For sure. For sure. So the... Besides the band playing, so do you know what time you're playing at, in Kenosha?
• 18:10
Or is it just a general 3:00 PM kind of start time for- Yeah, we, uh, w- We are kicking it off. We're, uh, we're the brand new band so we get to play first even though we're probably the oldest guys there.
• 18:21
[laughs] Uh, [laughs], but, uh, it's gonna be, uh, 3:00, uh, is our start time, and then, uh, the band's, uh... Let's see, there's a... Actually, there's a Milwaukee band, a really cool band, The Resurrectionists.
• 18:34
I don't know if you know anybody from them. No. Um, and, uh, and several Kenosha bands. Um, Revel in Rot is one of my favorites. Super heavy metal, like just crazy tear-your-head off style stuff.
• 18:48
Um, and, uh, actually, I don't l- have, I don't have them all in my head to list them all, but I can give you the link, and, uh, there's a big show poster, and, uh, definitely put that in your notes, too.
• 18:57
Yeah, I saw that there's, like, four venues there's stuff going on, so there's lots of bands happening that Saturday. Yeah, it'll be a really fun day.
• 19:06
We did it before a couple years ago, um, uh, with a different band, and, uh, it was a lot of fun. It's a really, really cool event. Very good.
• 19:15
So- My dogs are going crazy because my bandmates are getting here because we're practicing for said event. Oh, excellent. All right. Well- Uh, Stone Cold Bush- Yeah... by Chili Peppers.
• 19:24
That was what it was evocative of, because I could hear that doo, doo, doo, doo. Oh, okay. Just the step, like the progression on it. Yeah, you can pretty much hear, like, m- my entire '70s through '90s- [laughs]...
• 19:36
uh, musical influences- Yeah, it was-... across the whole thing. [laughs] Yeah, that, that one, that one just, like- Kind of picked and chose everything I like from everybody that I like. [laughs] Right on. Right on.
• 19:45
Yeah, that one just, like, I'm like, "I know this. I know this, and I haven't heard this before. But I feel like I've heard this before." But I, you know. Yeah. So I w- That was cool. I liked those...
• 19:53
w- what I thought, um- Well, I'm, I'm gonna say that's the bass... I'm gonna call that the bass player's fault then, and- Ah, not... Well, I wouldn't say fault... you know? [laughs] I wouldn't go with fault.
• 20:01
  I wouldn't, I wouldn't say it would be a bad thing, but.
• 20:03
[laughs] I mean, the first, the first thing I heard when I heard the f- well, what I thought when I heard the first track is that I didn't know Chris still had a keytar in his closet that he pulled out.
• 20:13
[laughs] Sometimes- Yeah. Sometimes you gotta pull out the keytar... I didn't even, I didn't even, like, play guitar on this, uh, on this.
• 20:20
Like, I spent my whole life playing guitar, and then I, I played zero guitar on this first, uh, recording.
• 20:24
But, uh, we got some other stuff where I'll, we'll be busting out some dual guitar solos and other surprises, uh, down the road, so- Right on... stay tuned. Well, I look forward to it. Yeah.
• 20:36
I've al- I've always enjoyed your music, and this is no exception. Distant Eye- Thank you... Bandcamp, and other associated, uh, or, uh, alternate music, uh, listening thingies. And then September 7th in Kenosha.
• 20:51
Awesome. Yes, for sure. Well- See you there... we gotta catch up more often, Chris. I appreciate you calling in.
• 20:56
I know you got band practice coming up, and we don't wanna keep you from your, uh, fr- from being ready for the show, so- Duty... we will, uh, do- Well, yeah. One of these days I'll get, I'll...
• 21:06
One of these days I'll get back on the bicycle, for sure. I swear. [laughs] I swear. Well, now that the beach is coming back, maybe we can hit the sand again because- Yeah... that, that's a good thing. So. Yeah. Totally.
• 21:16
But remember- I mean- Remember, no drinking of alcoholic beverages- Oh... in Illinois state parks. Oh, Michael, Michael knows a lot about that. I know a ton. I have- Well, I think we pretty much, like-
• 21:26
I think- I think we got kicked out of that whole beach permanently. [laughs] $263 later, I know that you can't- Do you remember the gig? No. [laughs] Well, it was a good thing, and we made the most use of it.
• 21:39
[laughs] And, uh, thank you very much. [laughs] Tell, tell that story after I hang up. [laughs] All right, Chris, thanks for calling in, buddy. All right, buddy. Thanks, man. All right, bye. Later. All right.
• 21:54
Chris Daisy, everybody. Uh, uh, interesting to hear what he's been doing since the bike industry. We gotta get, uh, we gotta get Tony a cough button. Yeah, right. I'm- got the sneezes and stuff.
• 22:05
That's one thing that I would, I would like to wire in one of these days is, is just- I could hold a button down and cough. Yeah. You could... You have a box. You can, you can- That'd be ideal... you can do two things.
• 22:13
You can adjust your own headset volume, and you can push the button to- To mute yourself... cut the mic until you are done with your- Are done hacking out my lung... hacking up a lung over there. Um- Look at you then.
• 22:24
[laughs] I have- Or right, or end up like Gene Belcher and like, "Ee-oh, ee-oh, pbt, pbt, ee-oh, woo, chicka-wonka, pow, pow." Just watching great ones pass by. D- yeah. You'd have all of the good ones like that.
• 22:36
That was- That was, like, the wedding DJ at, uh, at Kim's son's- [snores]... like, "DJ Dub-" DJ Dub- "... DJ Dub Deezy, pow, pow, pow." Speaking of people- Like, oh, my God...
• 22:47
who use the one key to make the sound effect. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh, go ahead and check out the full cut of the River West 24 that I uploaded to YouTube. Uh, towards the end when they're doing the- Oh, yeah...
• 22:59
the awards and whatnot, uh, Jeremy's son is- Yep, the proc. [laughs] Well, at first Jeremy goes something like- Uh-huh... "I think we need a little more air horn or something." And he's like, "Okay. Yeah."
• 23:08
But then it got, like- He-... all the time. Yeah. He- It was, it was hilarious. I, I, I caught a bit of that. He still has my Gunner by the way. Who does? Jeremy's son. Oh, yeah? Well, at least it hasn't got stolen yet.
• 23:19
Well, I don't know that. Oh. [laughs] He might have had it stolen. He hasn't told me yet. Well, I've been looking since so many bikes have been getting stolen, so, uh, James- There's Steve, Steven.
• 23:30
Steven Tyler's- That's bullshit... yeah, his Bullet. So keep your eye out for a Bullet with a CYC Photon or a Stealth- It beat the hell out of someone riding it... Stealth Drive on it.
• 23:39
Um, and, uh- Oh, it's fucking frustrating... yeah. Uh, just e- everybody, I mean, you know, that sucks. But hopefully the Gunner's still around. [laughs] Right? Uh, so be- f- uh, did you ever tell your story?
• 23:53
You probably told your story on, on the show about your $263 worth of Illinois- Oh, yeah. We had at least-... donations... we had at least one recount of that. Yeah. It's awesome. Yeah, yeah.
• 24:01
I don't know what episode it was. If we could find it, I'd put it in the show notes. [laughs] Yeah. The best part was the, "Don't arrest this man." Yeah. Do not arrest this person. This person, Koozie. Oh. Koozie.
• 24:10
Sur- yeah, Surly Koozie. As he's, as he's- Which he wanted me to take off- Yeah... myself, and I'm like, "Well, fuck that. If you're gonna charge me with something, you carry the beer with me." [laughs] You know?
• 24:20
And I was like, "Dude," and I'm like walking back to his car like, "What the shit is going on here, man?"
• 24:25
And da-da-da-da-da, and, and okay, he's lifting it out, and that's when I was like, "Oh, I'll just take a picture, whatever." Since we're talking about beer. [laughs] Uh-huh. Courtesy- And koozies.
• 24:38
[laughs] Courtesy of, uh, courtesy of Tony's trip, trip to, uh- Well-... Sheboygan- The-... we got the Three Sheeps koozies. And courtesy of JK, we have the Three Sheeps beer.
• 24:49
Which is Chaos Pattern, which I gotta say I like even better than Fresh Coast. Ah, I'm on the fence. Chaos Pattern just kicks your ass. Mm. Fresh Coast you can drink a dozen of and not even think about it. Uh- True...
• 25:01
yeah. It doesn't help by priming the pump with the 7.7 sentient 5.0 either. That was your fault. I went with the fake Budweiser ad. I went with the 9% wa- uh, Sauvignon blanc and- Oh, God It's a wine beer. Wine beer.
• 25:15
Wine beer. Okay then. It's like a barley wine, but not really. Okay then. So before, um- I'm floating on treetop level. I've had two beers- [laughs]... in that one beer. In that one, yeah.
• 25:25
[laughs] That's like double your money. It's like actually a good value. Right? Just saying. Before, uh, before Chris called- I got all the hacks. All the hacks today.
• 25:33
[laughs] Uh, we were talking about, uh, Chris' slow roll, and I just wanted to kinda mention what that's all about. Chris Kegel- Oh, yeah. That's sad...
• 25:39
Chris Kegel was the owner of Wheel & Sprocket, and came down with a rare form of cancer several years ago, and succumbed to it.
• 25:47
And the Chris Kegel Foundation was started shortly after that, and Chris' Slow Roll is one of the fundraisers for that foundation.
• 25:56
It does good stuff that involves bikes, 'cause his, his, uh, his kids, at least some of his kids, are still heavily involved with Wheel & Sprocket. Noel and Amenia, yeah. And you know what's even better?
• 26:07
Eric's Milwaukee Eastside Shop is closing. Going out of business. [laughs] Eric's can suck it. I sure hope that Mace isn't listening to this, because Mace works for them and he laughs- Stop it. You can't say the name...
• 26:22
he laughs whenever we ta- 26- 2016 was the first year of the Slow Roll. Okay. Eight years then. In, in my- You do the math. You do the math... in my math, in my math-y head- In my math-y head... what's your phone doing?
• 26:33
Is it making noise? It made noise. Um- What's flashing? What was flashing before? Your phone, when a call came in. Oh, that was wh- because- Chris was calling in. No, no, he calls into the call-in studio. Oh, okay.
• 26:44
Call-in, call-in studio line. Well, something flashed on your phone twice. Probably somebody left a message or something. Right. Because I have the light so I can see as well as hear.
• 26:53
Very important when you're working, like, you know- Or deaf... where it's very noisy. Or deaf. What? Exactly. Oh, yeah. Um, so- Tuesday, and, and the weekend, two days of Zaves what? Exactly. Dave's, Dave's What?
• 27:06
Dave's What? Dave's What? Dave's What? Dave's What? Right. Yeah. Hell, yeah. Yeah. Him and, uh- You, Sam-... him and Sam and-... Strongman Sam, you ran into them both... at, uh, Uptowner of all places on
• 27:18
Saturday before- Swam it. You did, but I didn't... yeah, before heading down to the MSC Backyard Barbecue. You did, but I didn't. But I saw Dave, too, a- another time on the Slow Roll. On the Slow Roll, yes.
• 27:31
Which- And, and they were still having, uh, anxiety about my, uh, my chain tensioner not being chain tensioned the way that- Properly... they want it. Yeah, it's- You're not riding a fucking Harley...
• 27:42
well, it's, it's, it's not ex- It's-... it's not exactly in the orientation it's supposed to be. Well, it sh- Has the chain fallen off? Actually, it did on the- [laughs] Oh, okay.
• 27:51
[laughs] But that, that was 'cause I like, I, that's 'cause I just, like, threw it on the ground. But I mean, that just is what'll happen. But it just pops right back freaking on, and everything's well.
• 27:59
Yeah, that's so, that- It's a, it's a machine that is, it's, it's got simple things on it, and I, that's how I like it. Just, just like that.
• 28:08
But it's funnier than hell to just watch them, like, just tie themselves- Grind about it... in knots about, like... Especially Sam. Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
• 28:16
Sam probably hasn't slept for three days because of that. [laughs] It's a, it's a Surly- That poor guy... it's a Surly Singulator. Right. It's a very simple thing. Right.
• 28:23
I don't think the spring in it springs as it sprung in the past when it was new. No, there ain't no spring. What? It just- There ain't no spring... maybe there should be one. Yeah, it's missing a spring then. See?
• 28:31
Now that is the problem. It's supposed to have a spring. [laughs] That is the problem. Like, that's why I don't do, I try not to do derailleurs. That's why I try to stay single speed. Well, guess what you do?
• 28:41
'Cause here's what, boing. Here's what you do. That's where the goddamn spring goes, and then I'm stuck in one speed anyways. Okay. No, I'm saying. And there I am- There you go... back at single speed again.
• 28:48
There's your point. Get rid of that stupid thing and get a horizontal dropout bike, and then you don't have to worry about it at all. Get rid of that bike. Are you kidding me?
• 28:55
That thing's- You've got the, you've got the Paddy Wagon sitting in wait. Yes. I've got others, yes. But this thing is just... I'm driving this- You've got your Surly too.
• 29:03
I'm driving- I haven't seen you ride that in ages... I got a flat, and I'm just too lazy to f- fix it. You got another flat? Yeah. Oh. [laughs] I'm just too lazy to- Dude, it's just a flat...
• 29:12
well, to be fair- It's not an easy fix... it's not an easy fix. [laughs] You go ahead and try and get that tire off that rim. I'll try it. Bring it to me. I'll try it, and I'll bitch too.
• 29:20
Whatever combination- 'Cause I have heard it's hell... because it's the factory setup with whatever Alexrim and WTB tires on a Surly- Sucks... whatever the hell that thing was called.
• 29:28
It's, yeah, it's an Alexrim and a, a, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. WTB something something. No, it's, it's a, they are Surly. It's got the 2.5 on it? It's a big- Dirt, uh, Dirt Wizards...
• 29:38
oh, it's a Dirt Lizard. Oh. Oh, it's a Surly ti- well, whatever it is, that thing bites on that, that, uh, bead with a tenacious grip. Yeah. I mean- I, I, I do my heel trick- Yeah... when I can't do anything else.
• 29:49
That didn't work. Exactly. You ever brought in Strongman Sam yet? Oh, he's set- Well, Steven can do it, 'cause he's got thumbs of s- of power.
• 29:56
But, uh, I- The guy at Pinnacle, when Pinnacle was around, was able to do it thumb, thumb-wise. Thumb of power. And I was like, "Ha. Well, okay. He made me feel stupid." But- These, I don't have any leverage. Right.
• 30:04
Look how short my thumbs are. Right. There's no leverage there. Charlie- And this one-... my thumbs. And this one still hurts a lot. They just my thumbs. So I only have one thumb now.
• 30:11
[laughs] If we go back in all of our podcasts, you have done that bit- [laughs]... 10 times, I'm betting. I'm not... I would say it's at least that many. Oh, yeah. Teddy. But, but this- I just love it...
• 30:23
it's one of the greatest movies of all time. Yeah, I agree. I agree. When you... Yes, you have to reference the thumbs Uh, here's something for Tony
• 30:32
Tony, Tony, here And if you want one, I will order it because this is too good a deal to pass up. Grin has a phase runner, which is their fancy big- Yeah, order it...
• 30:43
their big controller that they spec'd the wrong MOSFET in or something. And normally that goes up to 72 volts, and the MOSFET has to handle all that voltage.
• 30:53
But because it was spec'd wrong, it can't do the 72 volts, so it only does 36 volts. Instead of $350, $100. For the controller? For the controller, yeah. Yeah, I need one of those- Yeah... 'cause I need a spare.
• 31:08
Except we have to see if we can get an L10 connector to whatever, whatever the little, the little nine pin- Din... that we have- Yeah, yeah... is as an adapter or somehow gotta do our own soldering.
• 31:19
But if you have a 36-volt bike you wanna do, and I'm a big fan of 36-volt bikes now, unless you really gotta go fast, smaller batteries, same capacity. Absolutely. Don't worry about it. Absolutely.
• 31:31
Um, they had 1,000 of them, so they're gonna have to get [laughs] they're gonna have to do s- they gotta do something with them and they're getting rid of- Yeah, for 100 bucks I'll take them...
• 31:38
they're getting rid of them for 100 bucks. So I'll order those tomorrow. But, uh, yeah, that and then, uh, what else we got on here? Oh, that, that...
• 31:48
Burnsy from Oddity Cycles makes s- just some silly, silly awesome bikes. They just had the maid show in- Oh, that-... Portlandville- Portland... somewhere out that way.
• 31:59
Uh, and the bike that he had at the show is just like, you gotta be kidding me, dude. This is so badass. There- Take a look. Take a look, there's a picture. Show notes. Uh, yeah. Show notes.
• 32:09
This w- this version of it came from the Radavist, so check those guys out too. And riding it all the way back- Oh, that's one you showed me. Yeah. Yeah. That, that, that's nuts.
• 32:16
The start of, since we've talked to you all last, on the Thursday was the foundation with at Knob Brian Ritchie- Oh, that was fantastic... and the Zen Gardeners. Nice. Cactus Mike, Mike Kasprzak, who I ran into
• 32:33
this past Monday at the last of the music events at Lake Park. Was he bass playing? No, he was- Horn blowing?... watching. Oh, he was watching. Oh. Yeah. So I ran into him and Zito and what's his face? Uh- Mm-hmm...
• 32:49
River West Ted, one guy you always see at that Lake Park- River West Ted was everywhere this weekend too, so- Yeah. Yeah. He's the one that saw, uh- [laughs]... Green Day walk past us.
• 32:57
Oh, yeah, those- I was talking to River West Ted- All right, so-... and, and I'm like, "Wait a minute, that's the dude from Green Day." He's like, "Yeah, I know." I don't know- Talked to him right away...
• 33:04
I don't know if Billy Joe was there or not, but they were all over. They went to Lakefront Brewery for a fish fry. They were at The Fonz. Went to the Brown's Fonz. Oh, no, I saw him walk right by.
• 33:14
R- Ro- Oh, dude, if I-... Ruff runs the bases at, uh, Miller Park. Oh, did he? Yeah.
• 33:19
Oh, if I would've run into damn Trey Cool, he was the one that had the bag o' the backpack of weed in the late '90s when he c- stopped at the station. When he got busted, yeah. No, he didn't get busted with that.
• 33:31
He just wanted to blow some weed in the, in our office, but our program director was [laughs] in the room and he was like, "No, we can't do that in here." And it was like, "Mm. Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh." It's a radio station.
• 33:40
What do you mean? What do you mean? I'm like, "How non-WKRP can you be?" Silly bitch. All right, it's Dr. Johnny Fever. [laughs] All right, everybody. We did it again. Thanks, Chris.
• 33:51
For the love of God, I thought turkeys could fly. [laughs] Les, Les Nessman. One of the best quotes on any show ever. Um, thanks to Chris Daisy for calling in.
• 34:01
If you, uh, have a free Saturday, the 7th, coming up this week, Saturday, go check that band- Come and see it... out in Kenosha. Yeah, that would be my birthday, pre-birthday weekend.
• 34:10
And by the way, happy birthday to you. Thank you. Thank you. It was a very nice birthday. A deleted or belated- And I'm old as shit... a deleted [laughs] Deleted. A belated birthday. A deleted birthday.
• 34:18
Belated birthday, geez. I'll take a delete if I can start, you know, being 36 again, I guess... no, that's what I, yeah, that's what I did. I hit the 50, and I'm wa- I'm talking and walking it backwards. Well, okay then.
• 34:28
We're getting close. Talking and, talking and walking it backwards. Are you gonna get to 20 going backwards? Or are you gonna get to- I don't know. Sure... are you gonna get to 15 maybe?
• 34:34
It's, it's bad when your daughter keeps asking you, "You're, like, 63, right?" Mm. Does this- Like, you are such a bitch. Yeah. Mm. Yeah. She knew it was, she was doing it all on purpose- Uh-huh...
• 34:47
'cause, 'cause she's a smart cookie. Did you ever tell her she can be replaced? Because- I told her she's getting her ass out of the house coming tomorrow. [laughs] All right.
• 34:54
I'm gonna sleep in her room just to piss her off. Good luck to, uh, now- Oh... now I have two rooms. I got Sydney's room and- Yeah, yeah, yeah...
• 35:01
well, Garrett will, Garrett will come back I'm sure during breaks and summers, but- She, I, I know she's gonna come back. And you know what's gonna be parked in her room? Bikes. You, your butt on her bed. Yeah.
• 35:11
Well, yeah. No. Like- That's gross. [laughs] No, but bikes on her bed. Bikes on her bed. [laughs] No, that's like my place with the den, which is just Mike's, or JK's, just chachki collection, all my VHS. Is that- Oh...
• 35:25
that's not the front room, that's the side room, right? The side room, yep. Yep. I remember that room. Yep, yep, yep. And that's where you get the good posters put up and all that other stuff. All right.
• 35:34
Next week, folks. We'll do this again. Brr. Allegedly. [engine revving] That was Cooper today.
• 35:42
  [rock music]
