- Ben: Good morning and welcome to the short-term rental bulletin on the 24th of July. last night at the Hydro in Glasgow, the King declared the Commonwealth Games open and Sir Chris Hoy arrived in Attardis and this morning Glasgow wakes up to 10 days of medals, the busiest calendar in Britain. So 74 nations, more than 3,000 athletes, 215 golds available between today and the 2nd of August. And with no athletes village this time, teams are filling up hotel and university residents, sending regular visitors straight into shortlets. We covered the numbers on Monday, but in short, supplies are 15%, occupancy is up nine points and rates are up 73%, all booked before the opening ceremony. But here's the part that outlast the games. In 2014, Glasgow's hotels posted record July occupancy. and forward bookings for autumns ran well above previous years. The fortnight is the payday, but the real halo here is the yield. So in other context as well, Edinburgh's 5 % visitor level went live this morning. So really it's quite the week for Scotland. So this event fills your calendar for 10 days. The halo fills it for months, price for both. Have a great weekend and I'll see you on Monday.
