- 0:00Speaker 1: How do you get that far off track? It's one
- 0:01Speaker 1: more thing. So I am somewhat attracted to stories of
- 0:11Speaker 1: people blowing up their lives by wanting to not blow
- 0:16Speaker 1: up my life. I don't think it's all just like
- 0:18Speaker 1: schadenfreud or something like that. I don't want to blow
- 0:21Speaker 1: up my life. And whenever I read these stories of
- 0:23Speaker 1: people like often blowing up their lives, I think, how
- 0:27Speaker 1: did you can it happen to anybody where you ignore
- 0:31Speaker 1: reality and get this far off track. I'm using this
- 0:33Speaker 1: example Sam Bankman Freed might be one example, although he
- 0:37Speaker 1: probably thought at some point things were going to turn around, yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and that he.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Could fix it. He can somehow cover the accounts, make
- 0:50Speaker 2: a billion more bucks, cover his bets, and then get
- 0:54Speaker 2: back to normal.
- 0:55Speaker 1: This particular example I'm going to give is NFL star
- 0:59Speaker 1: in great inferior and NFL fan. You certainly know his name,
- 1:01Speaker 1: Bill Romanowski. We talked about him a lot here on
- 1:04Speaker 1: the Armstrong and Getty Show because he was a forty
- 1:06Speaker 1: niner and won Super Bowls, and then he played with
- 1:08Speaker 1: the Raiders and he won Super Bowls. He won four
- 1:10Speaker 1: Super Bowls. Bill Romanowski, and I remember when he was
- 1:12Speaker 1: featured on sixty minutes at one time about all the
- 1:15Speaker 1: people he had hurt and fingers he had broken, and
- 1:18Speaker 1: all the differences getting a pile for the ball and
- 1:20Speaker 1: he'd break people's fingers. He's a horrible human being.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I remember him being a complete lunatic.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Yeah, but he was good and a lot of teams
- 1:28Speaker 1: wanted him, and he won a lot of Super Bowls.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Do you know the name, Katie or is he before
- 1:33Speaker 1: your time winning all these games?
- 1:34Speaker 3: I actually know Bill. Oh, you know him personally? Yes? Okay.
- 1:38Speaker 4: He used to do a weekly segment on a morning
- 1:41Speaker 4: show I was on when we worked with the station
- 1:44Speaker 4: for the Raiders, and I remember that.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah, well you can weigh you know, if your personal
- 1:50Speaker 1: friends and you don't want to weigh in on this,
- 1:51Speaker 1: that's fine.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:53Speaker 4: He was as always, super nice guy. I agree, lunatic.
- 1:56Speaker 4: I don't know how he had that much energy.
- 1:58Speaker 1: All the time. But he did a lot of various stimulants.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I mean, he did a lot of supplements to uh
- 2:07Speaker 1: to help him with it, because he admitted at the
- 2:08Speaker 1: end of his career to steroids and HGH and all
- 2:10Speaker 1: that sort of stuff, and a lot of steroids. Will
- 2:12Speaker 1: you know and get you pretty jazzed up too. He
- 2:15Speaker 1: also probably is a very successful NFL player, is probably
- 2:18Speaker 1: one of those good guys. It's got a real fast motor.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I'm the opposite. I got a really slow motor.
- 2:22Speaker 3: My motor is super slow, guy, My motor.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Is very, very slow.
- 2:27Speaker 3: But he and he walked like my grandfather used to.
- 2:32Speaker 1: He just got uh, he got sued at the end
- 2:35Speaker 1: of his career because like he got in a fight
- 2:36Speaker 1: with the teammate and broke the guy's eye socket, ending
- 2:38Speaker 1: his career and had to pay the guy a whole
- 2:39Speaker 1: bunch of money.
- 2:40Speaker 2: And he's he's right in the locker room.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, something completely Anyway, this is personal life stuff,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and this gets to my question is how do you
- 2:51Speaker 1: how do you not see this coming or how do
- 2:52Speaker 1: you let it go this far? So he and his wife, oh,
- 2:55Speaker 1: fifteen point five million dollars in back taxes. Too bad.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You can't pay that off with being tan, because he
- 3:01Speaker 1: and his wife are very very tan. If tan was
- 3:04Speaker 1: fungible like money, somehow maybe could pay it off. He
- 3:07Speaker 1: and his hot wife are so toued to be more tan.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Seminars made but anyway, tape series they had right, they
- 3:16Speaker 1: had a nutrition company that may or may not have
- 3:20Speaker 1: had stuff that actually did any good. But that's the
- 3:23Speaker 1: world of nutrition supplements, right, you know, buyer beware. I'm
- 3:26Speaker 1: not dogging him for that, but you're nodding your head.
- 3:31Speaker 1: You know something about this kiddie.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I tried him and used him. He was
- 3:34Speaker 4: that rick at the peak of that when he was
- 3:37Speaker 4: doing stuff with our shell They were good, they tasted good.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and they might have actually been perfectly good fine,
- 3:41Speaker 1: but regardless, he wasn't paying his takes.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Doubt it the contrarian unless it was just you know,
- 3:50Speaker 4: vitamins which won't hurt you, but it was it was
- 3:53Speaker 4: like a protein shake tasted fine.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, shake's a protein shake.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I was just I have this tomorrow on the radio show.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I was just reading this thing about the supplement craze.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Supplements are hotter than ever, and they do seem to
- 4:05Speaker 1: be it because everything I bring up about anything, somebody
- 4:08Speaker 1: recommends a supplement to me, Oh, you're not taking enough
- 4:12Speaker 1: magnesium or whatever. And so it's just such a huge,
- 4:15Speaker 1: huge industry now and how much of it actually does
- 4:18Speaker 1: he any good for your anxiety or sleeping or you
- 4:21Speaker 1: can't get an erection or whatever the hell the problem is.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I don't know. Yes, you're shaking your head, Joe.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I couldn't decide whether or make a joke or not
- 4:29Speaker 2: do it. No, now the moments passed, But so it
- 4:34Speaker 2: was disgusting but funny.
- 4:37Speaker 1: What's interesting about Romanowski and is his very tan, attractive
- 4:41Speaker 1: wife owned fifteen point five million dollars in back taxes.
- 4:44Speaker 1: It looks like they were using money from the nutrition
- 4:47Speaker 1: company to live a crazy, high flying lifestyle, as often
- 4:52Speaker 1: happens with people like this bigger house than you can afford,
- 4:55Speaker 1: nicer cars, and you can afford better trips, jewelry, etc.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And that's my question of how people who do this?
- 5:04Speaker 1: Do you just think the bill's never gonna come do
- 5:06Speaker 1: or nobody's gonna catch on? I mean, because I assume
- 5:09Speaker 1: at many points you were getting letters from the irs
- 5:14Speaker 1: or some business manager was telling you or something that hey,
- 5:18Speaker 1: you know this, this this road doesn't go on forever.
- 5:22Speaker 1: And so what's what's in the what's the mindset if
- 5:25Speaker 1: somebody blows up their life like this? And I asked,
- 5:27Speaker 1: because I don't, I don't ever want to do that.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I think there are some people who've done that, who
- 5:33Speaker 2: could give you a reasonably coherent answer. I think this
- 5:36Speaker 2: is straight out of the Department of There'd be nothing
- 5:38Speaker 2: more terrifying than to spend five minutes in somebody else's head.
- 5:42Speaker 2: And this is one of my favorite weird thought experiments
- 5:45Speaker 2: because you'd have to I mean certain people. You get
- 5:49Speaker 2: in there for like sixty seconds, and you'd be saying
- 5:51Speaker 2: the safe work, tomato, Tomato, get me out of here.
- 5:55Speaker 2: But you'd have to hold onto your own conscience or
- 5:58Speaker 2: consciousness rather as well. But I think what would be
- 6:03Speaker 2: terrifying about it if you could get into Bill Romanowski's
- 6:06Speaker 2: head as he's partying and enjoying his Caribbean mansion or
- 6:09Speaker 2: whatever he's doing, is the total lack of recognition of consequences.
- 6:17Speaker 1: So if I got in his head, I'd be thinking, Hey,
- 6:19Speaker 1: why is nobody in here thinking about the fact that
- 6:21Speaker 1: we're at this point ten million dollars behind in our
- 6:24Speaker 1: Texas and we're still on a Caribbean vacation.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't, I don't know. I can't imagine any
- 6:30Speaker 2: thought like Katie.
- 6:32Speaker 4: No, I'm I'm along the lines of thinking he just
- 6:34Speaker 4: thought he was not going to get caught.
- 6:36Speaker 1: That just seems crazy to me. I think one of
- 6:38Speaker 1: the pressures to do this. I guarantee one of the
- 6:41Speaker 1: pressures to do this that I don't have, for maybe
- 6:45Speaker 1: not even good reasons.
- 6:48Speaker 3: I don't care.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I mean, if if, like somehow I'm in a bind
- 6:52Speaker 1: where I got to drive a crappier car, We're not
- 6:54Speaker 1: going I don't stand crappier hotel rooms. I don't care.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I've got nobody I'm expecting to look my life and
- 7:02Speaker 1: and you know, think I'm I just I don't have
- 7:05Speaker 1: that pressure. And I assume that a lot of these
- 7:07Speaker 1: people to getting these situations have a very public here's
- 7:12Speaker 1: my home, here's my cars, here is how I live,
- 7:14Speaker 1: and they just can't possibly deal with.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Not being that.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yes, and they might indeed get a sense of entitlement.
- 7:26Speaker 2: How do I phrase this because that term is overused
- 7:29Speaker 2: a little bit, but that they cannot accept going backward
- 7:34Speaker 2: and they think I deserve better than this.
- 7:37Speaker 1: I deserve this, Katie.
- 7:40Speaker 2: You know, in terms of Romanowski situation, Katie may and
- 7:43Speaker 2: nailed it. He was just I assume they were cheating
- 7:45Speaker 2: on their taxes and thought they'd get away with it
- 7:47Speaker 2: or they wouldn't be audited or whatever. So that might
- 7:50Speaker 2: be the whole thing.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Well, just on like a smaller scale.
- 7:53Speaker 4: I mean, I know someone who used to do dumb
- 7:55Speaker 4: stuff all the time thinking they wouldn't get caught, and
- 7:59Speaker 4: well they didn't. But it was like a mentality like
- 8:02Speaker 4: it's just not going to happen to me, And I
- 8:05Speaker 4: think that maybe you know some people are like that
- 8:07Speaker 4: on the much larger scale in this situation.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Well, most criminals on the streets think that, and they're right,
- 8:13Speaker 2: you know, they probably won't get caught.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Your idea that it's the same thing, just a larger scale.
- 8:17Speaker 1: It's kind of like the Charles Barkley talking about all
- 8:20Speaker 1: the money he lost gambling. Well, I make a lot
- 8:22Speaker 1: of money. I have a lot of money, and so
- 8:24Speaker 1: my numbers are a lot bigger. So yeah, it could
- 8:26Speaker 1: just be that, Yeah, I couldn't get fifteen point three
- 8:31Speaker 1: million dollars behind in my taxes for uh, for obvious reasons.
- 8:35Speaker 2: So I'm pretty well acquainted. Was with another NFL player
- 8:40Speaker 2: who was a great example of somebody who was extremely
- 8:44Speaker 2: skilled in that but had no life skills. Social skills
- 8:49Speaker 2: were arrested just real life was never going to work
- 8:55Speaker 2: out very well, just wasn't made for it. But fantastic
- 8:59Speaker 2: football player.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I hope I don't just ever somehow ignore the reality
- 9:04Speaker 1: of something, whether it's the way you're abusing your body
- 9:08Speaker 1: or spending your money or I don't know. There's lots
- 9:11Speaker 1: of examples where you just ignore it. Yesh, yesh.
- 9:18Speaker 2: There are probably listeners listening now, which is how you
- 9:22Speaker 2: know they're listeners saying you hope you're not ignoring the
- 9:26Speaker 2: reality of abusing your body, sleep, diet.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I don't feel like my sleep and diet is in
- 9:33Speaker 1: the category of fifteen million dollars behind in Texas.
- 9:36Speaker 2: But hu't.
- 9:38Speaker 1: H I think my brain, brain and or heart is
- 9:41Speaker 1: going to give out at some point.
- 9:43Speaker 2: It's possible.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I do have the attitude that it wouldn't happen
- 9:46Speaker 1: to me. I definitely have that attitude.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Really appreciate you incorporating some greens into your diet.
- 9:52Speaker 2: It that's a good idea, and we recommend Bill Romanowski's
- 9:57Speaker 2: jar O Greens. It's only nineteen ninety nine for months
- 10:01Speaker 2: special introductory offer.
- 10:05Speaker 3: It goes to a good cause. Yeah, exactly, and maybe
- 10:09Speaker 3: some prunes to Jack Well. I guess that's it.
