- 1:17Speaker 1: Doug, here we are. Welcome.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Talk a little Giants.
- 1:21Speaker 1: The Giants. So, you know, for those that might not,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I didn't do this before, but for those that might
- 1:26Speaker 1: not know you, kind of give us a little synopsis
- 1:28Speaker 1: of who you are and what you do.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Oh, I'm a pastor for 25 years almost. Same church.
- 1:35Speaker 4: We started a church called the Reformed Baptist Church of
- 1:38Speaker 4: Northern Colorado in 2001. And we're just kind of outside
- 1:43Speaker 4: of Boulder. And I've been doing that for a long time.
- 1:46Speaker 4: And for some reason, I started writing. And so I
- 1:50Speaker 4: kind of do that. I guess I have like 20
- 1:52Speaker 4: books out now or something like that.
- 1:54Speaker 1: It's phenomenal. And Doug has been instrumental in so many
- 1:58Speaker 1: other people's perspectives on the whole idea of giants, the
- 2:02Speaker 1: sons of God. And you got a new book out too,
- 2:04Speaker 1: which we'll discuss as well. But this particular giants book is,
- 2:08Speaker 1: you originally had written this in 2013, I think. And
- 2:12Speaker 1: so now you have an expanded edition on it. So
- 2:15Speaker 1: talk about what got you interested in this and then
- 2:18Speaker 1: kind of jump us into, again, giants, seriously? I thought
- 2:21Speaker 1: this is make-believe, isn't this Greek myth, et cetera.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean, as a pastor, you get asked
- 2:26Speaker 4: from time to time, what do you think about Genesis 6?
- 2:28Speaker 4: And I didn't really have a good answer. I didn't
- 2:31Speaker 4: really have thought about it a whole lot. And I
- 2:34Speaker 4: stumbled across Mike Heiser's stuff around 2008. He was giving
- 2:38Speaker 4: away a early version of what became The Unseen Realm.
- 2:43Speaker 4: But I thought when I read that book, you know,
- 2:46Speaker 4: he talks about Nephilim in there and really gives a
- 2:48Speaker 4: good explanation for what they are, where they came from,
- 2:51Speaker 4: why it matters. But he only talks about them for
- 2:53Speaker 4: like three chapters. And I thought, I think that there's
- 2:57Speaker 4: a lot more that you could... unpack in the biblical
- 3:01Speaker 4: text about who the giants are. So I just decided
- 3:04Speaker 4: to see if what would happen if I wrote a
- 3:06Speaker 4: kind of really a biblical theology from Genesis to Revelation
- 3:10Speaker 4: about who the giants are, and that's what came out.
- 3:14Speaker 1: What have you found, again, in the research, and you
- 3:18Speaker 1: deal with a lot of things, is some churches, they
- 3:21Speaker 1: tell the story of David and Goliath, but I guess
- 3:24Speaker 1: in reality, they don't really believe it?
- 3:26Speaker 4: Or they separate it out? I think they do. So
- 3:29Speaker 4: I have an interesting story from a deacon in our
- 3:31Speaker 4: church who was doing a Bible study at his house.
- 3:34Speaker 4: And this was right when I was writing this. And
- 3:37Speaker 4: I started talking about giants. And he would have none
- 3:40Speaker 4: of it. I mean, absolutely none of it. He got
- 3:42Speaker 4: really angry about it. The way his anger came out
- 3:44Speaker 4: was in sleeping. Okay. He just started to go to
- 3:48Speaker 4: sleep during the studies whenever I would talk about it.
- 3:51Speaker 4: And I finally looked at him and said, what is
- 3:52Speaker 4: your problem? He goes, giants are stupid. Why would I
- 3:55Speaker 4: ever believe in that? And I said, why wouldn't you?
- 3:58Speaker 4: You believe in Goliath, don't you? And he goes, well, yeah,
- 4:00Speaker 4: of course. I go, well, he was a giant.
- 4:03Speaker 1: He goes, yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 4: I said, have you ever looked into his lineage? And
- 4:07Speaker 4: as soon as I said that, a light bulb went
- 4:09Speaker 4: on for him that, look, I believe the Bible is
- 4:11Speaker 4: God's word. I take it seriously. I've been taught about
- 4:15Speaker 4: this one giant my whole life. What do you mean
- 4:18Speaker 4: is lineage? And that opened the door for him. You
- 4:21Speaker 4: have to find ways to get people to walk through
- 4:24Speaker 4: the door that they are already comfortable with, but they
- 4:27Speaker 4: just don't know it. And for a lot of people,
- 4:30Speaker 4: I think Goliath is that way that you can do it.
- 4:33Speaker 4: And the problem is in the modern church, we spiritualize
- 4:37Speaker 4: stories like David and Goliath. So go out and slay
- 4:40Speaker 4: all the Goliaths in your life. Like that's why this
- 4:42Speaker 4: story is in the Bible. That's not why the story
- 4:44Speaker 4: is in the Bible. That story is in the Bible
- 4:46Speaker 4: because you need to understand that the seed of David,
- 4:49Speaker 4: or the seed of, well, the seed of Jesus, the
- 4:52Speaker 4: seed of the woman, the seed of Judah, David, is
- 4:56Speaker 4: the one who's going to give birth to Messiah. And
- 4:58Speaker 4: the whole thing has been promised since Genesis 3.15 that
- 5:02Speaker 4: her seed is going to crush the head of the serpent.
- 5:05Speaker 4: You start looking into who are the seed of the serpent? Well...
- 5:11Speaker 4: There's a spiritual aspect to it. Pharisees are children of
- 5:14Speaker 4: the devil, but that's really an internal heart problem. There's
- 5:18Speaker 4: a biological seed, not necessarily of Satan himself, but of
- 5:21Speaker 4: these beings called the watchers, the sons of God in
- 5:24Speaker 4: Genesis six, that become like these opponents of Israel in
- 5:30Speaker 4: the days of Abraham and the days of Moses, the
- 5:32Speaker 4: days of Joshua. And David's really kind of the end
- 5:34Speaker 4: of the physical part of this. And he crushes the
- 5:38Speaker 4: head of this giant. He ends up taking the giant's
- 5:41Speaker 4: head into Jerusalem. And like the legends are that Golgotha
- 5:45Speaker 4: is actually named that the place of the skull, because
- 5:48Speaker 4: that's where he took the head of the giant. And
- 5:50Speaker 4: Jesus dies on this very spot. It's like the whole
- 5:54Speaker 4: thing is messianically like typological, almost prophetic in terms of
- 6:01Speaker 4: David crushing the head of the seed of the serpent.
- 6:05Speaker 4: It's like, Nobody ever told me that growing up. They
- 6:08Speaker 4: told me to slay the Goliaths in my life.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and this is where I find it fascinating where, again,
- 6:14Speaker 1: you have this story that we tell kids. I mean,
- 6:17Speaker 1: even some kids will dress up, you know, but yet
- 6:20Speaker 1: nothing in God's word is haphazard, but yet they're, as
- 6:25Speaker 1: this deacon understood, what do you mean by lineage? And
- 6:29Speaker 1: so maybe talk about, you know, Genesis 6, you know,
- 6:35Speaker 1: the pre-flood, post-flood, you have all this idea. Talk about
- 6:39Speaker 1: that and how, maybe expand a little bit, is what
- 6:42Speaker 1: I mean, on how that developed in the Old Testament, especially,
- 6:45Speaker 1: you know, in the first five books, which of Moses
- 6:48Speaker 1: are pretty phenomenal.
- 6:49Speaker 4: Yeah, so Goliath's lineage goes to a fellow named Rapha. And,
- 6:55Speaker 4: you know, there's actually four other giants that are in
- 6:57Speaker 4: that same story. They're all sons of Rapha. You learn
- 7:00Speaker 4: that Rapha is like a proper name of a guy
- 7:04Speaker 4: who was part of the Rephaim. And after the flood,
- 7:07Speaker 4: there's all kinds of im or ite beings that are
- 7:12Speaker 4: associated with giant tribes. Rephaim is the most well-known or
- 7:16Speaker 4: the most spoken about, but you have Amorite, you have Zamzamim,
- 7:21Speaker 4: go read your Deuteronomy chapter two, go read your Genesis 14.
- 7:25Speaker 4: And you find all these beings are here and it's like, how, what?
- 7:30Speaker 4: How'd these things get here? What's the origin of this? Well,
- 7:34Speaker 4: that's where the Genesis 6 storyline comes in. In that place,
- 7:38Speaker 4: they're called Nephilim. And Nephilim appears in the Genesis 6
- 7:43Speaker 4: story to kind of tell you where they came from
- 7:46Speaker 4: before the flood, but also after the flood. Because when
- 7:49Speaker 4: Moses has the spies go into the promised land, they
- 7:52Speaker 4: come back and they're like, there's giants in the land.
- 7:55Speaker 4: And there they saw the Nephilim and they were like
- 7:57Speaker 4: grasshoppers in their sight. These are the Amalekites. And you
- 8:00Speaker 4: go back and you look, well, who are the Amalekites?
- 8:02Speaker 4: You find out that this is one of the tribes
- 8:04Speaker 4: that was in what I call the giant wars in
- 8:07Speaker 4: Genesis 14 that precedes the whole lot event where he
- 8:12Speaker 4: gets kidnapped and Abraham and Melchizedek meet and all this
- 8:17Speaker 4: stuff is happening in that chapter. So where's this come from? Well,
- 8:22Speaker 4: Genesis six is the origin of it. And then when
- 8:24Speaker 4: you start doing a deep dive on what a Nephilim
- 8:28Speaker 4: actually is, Then you understand the word actually means a giant.
- 8:33Speaker 4: I hear this all the time, even from people that
- 8:36Speaker 4: are in the Nephilim world. Nephilim does not mean fallen ones.
- 8:41Speaker 4: It's a word play on the word Nephal. I don't
- 8:44Speaker 4: have a problem with that. But it literally means a giant.
- 8:48Speaker 4: It's an Aramaic loan word that was inserted into the
- 8:51Speaker 4: text of Numbers 13 in order to explain to a
- 8:54Speaker 4: later audience what's a Nephilim. Well, so there's a word
- 8:58Speaker 4: in Aramaic, which is almost exactly similar to Hebrew, that
- 9:04Speaker 4: means giant. And that's the word that he chose to use,
- 9:08Speaker 4: or whoever the editor was in that case, where you
- 9:10Speaker 4: have a form of the word Nephilim that can only
- 9:13Speaker 4: be accounted for in the Aramaic. So they literally means giant.
- 9:16Speaker 4: And the Septuagint, the Greek translation, translates it as giant.
- 9:21Speaker 4: So how do you get giants if just people are
- 9:24Speaker 4: marrying other people?
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah, when you start looking at some of this, that's
- 9:27Speaker 1: kind of the craziness. And we're trying to encourage people
- 9:32Speaker 1: to think outside the box and to think for themselves
- 9:35Speaker 1: and to ascertain whether some of the things that they
- 9:37Speaker 1: learn in church are accurate. But we're going to take

- 12:02Speaker 1: Well, welcome back. We are talking to Doug Van Doren
- 12:04Speaker 1: about his book, Giant Sons of God. And before the break, Doug,
- 12:08Speaker 1: we were just talking about the risk. Again, as pastors... Um, we,
- 12:13Speaker 1: we try to, um, to protect the flock and those
- 12:16Speaker 1: that are, you know, that we're called to lead and
- 12:18Speaker 1: to teach. But yet when we look out, sometimes you're like,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and even sometimes people in the church, they, they kind
- 12:23Speaker 1: of can freak out and they're very uncomfortable with it
- 12:26Speaker 1: because I don't know why. Um, cause we do believe
- 12:29Speaker 1: in a supernatural Bible.
- 12:31Speaker 4: We do. I mean, I think we have probably some
- 12:34Speaker 4: medieval theology that's creeping in about what angels are, what
- 12:38Speaker 4: they aren't, um, what demons are, what they aren't that
- 12:42Speaker 4: really aren't necessarily coming from biblical concepts. They're coming from
- 12:46Speaker 4: philosophical concepts or, you know, things that theologians developed for
- 12:50Speaker 4: right or wrong reasons. They've crept in and then they,
- 12:54Speaker 4: then it becomes like in our mind. So you're telling
- 12:56Speaker 4: me that an angel had relations with a woman and
- 13:00Speaker 4: that's probably what happened. And then there's the kind of
- 13:02Speaker 4: the whole DNA thing about that, that I don't know
- 13:04Speaker 4: about that, but that seems to be the implication. It's like, well,
- 13:08Speaker 4: how could that happen? You know, and you hear people say,
- 13:10Speaker 4: angels are only immaterial. They have no bodies. That's not possible. Well,
- 13:15Speaker 4: where'd you get that from? Yeah, where'd you get that?
- 13:16Speaker 4: Did you read Genesis 18 where three angels come to
- 13:20Speaker 4: Abraham and he washes their feet and they're having a
- 13:24Speaker 4: dinner together? So, you know, we have these preconceptions that
- 13:28Speaker 4: make it so that we think that the story can't
- 13:31Speaker 4: say what it says. And then we just, we de-supernaturalize
- 13:35Speaker 4: what the text says. Even though we believe in the supernatural...
- 13:40Speaker 4: We have these filters that won't let us accept what
- 13:42Speaker 4: the text is actually saying.
- 13:44Speaker 1: So in the Bible, you're going to see certainly the
- 13:48Speaker 1: narrative of the story, no doubt. What is the, let's
- 13:52Speaker 1: go back for a moment, the theological ramifications of giants,
- 13:58Speaker 1: I mean, coming there. And you said earlier, Genesis to Revelation.
- 14:02Speaker 1: So talk about the theology of the giants, which again,
- 14:05Speaker 1: these are real. It's not typological. These are real physical beings.
- 14:09Speaker 1: But how does the theology, what does God want us
- 14:11Speaker 1: to understand?
- 14:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's important that they are real. Goliath
- 14:14Speaker 4: was 10 feet tall. I mean, that's not a metaphorical giant.
- 14:18Speaker 4: That's literally, I wouldn't want to, and they're described as being,
- 14:21Speaker 4: you know, well-built. They're not like these gangly, you know,
- 14:26Speaker 4: people that you see that might reach until today. Yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 4: that's not what it is. Like they are, they're hulks.
- 14:32Speaker 4: I mean, in every sense of the word.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And we have the language of the, in case some
- 14:35Speaker 1: people say, oh, he wasn't really, It gives us the weights.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Yeah, the spear tip weighs 15 pounds, let alone the
- 14:43Speaker 4: spear's like a weaver's beam or whatever.
- 14:45Speaker 1: 130 pounds of armor. No, you and I aren't going
- 14:48Speaker 1: to do that and be successful. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:50Speaker 4: So, I mean, just on that level alone, it's theologically
- 14:53Speaker 4: important because you're learning to read the text as... literally
- 14:58Speaker 4: when you're supposed to read it literally. So one thing,
- 15:01Speaker 4: if it's a metaphor, it's not a metaphor. These are
- 15:04Speaker 4: the descriptions they give us. So that's by itself is
- 15:07Speaker 4: important to learn to take the Bible on its own ground.
- 15:12Speaker 4: But really the giants are telling us a story. Like
- 15:16Speaker 4: I said, from Genesis 3.15, there's a promise that God
- 15:19Speaker 4: gives as in the form of a curse to the serpent,
- 15:22Speaker 4: that the woman's going to have a seed and that
- 15:24Speaker 4: that seed is going to crush the head of the serpent.
- 15:27Speaker 4: That's ultimately fulfilled in Jesus. But there's a war that
- 15:31Speaker 4: the Bible details really from Genesis to Esther. I have
- 15:36Speaker 4: my last chapter until we get to the New Testament
- 15:38Speaker 4: is actually on Esther. Esther, giants in the Bible? Well, yeah,
- 15:41Speaker 4: in a way, because the chief opponent, Haman comes from
- 15:44Speaker 4: the lineage of Agag. So you go, well, who's Agag?
- 15:48Speaker 4: And you find out that Agag is this king that
- 15:51Speaker 4: Samuel hacks to pieces because they were supposed to kill everybody,
- 15:54Speaker 4: including the king, and Saul didn't do it. But you
- 15:57Speaker 4: find out that Agag comes from the Amalekites and that
- 16:01Speaker 4: the Amalekites are the giants in Genesis 14. And so
- 16:05Speaker 4: the lineage is telling you that there is a biblical
- 16:09Speaker 4: story of the seed of the woman fighting the seed
- 16:13Speaker 4: of the serpent that goes back to Genesis 6. And,
- 16:16Speaker 4: you know, this is what the point of the wars
- 16:18Speaker 4: of Joshua were for, where he's supposed to exterminate every man, woman, child,
- 16:22Speaker 4: because this is an abomination that has happened again post-flood.
- 16:27Speaker 4: And there's a spiritual component, which is that everybody in
- 16:31Speaker 4: the days of the New Testament, we have all kinds
- 16:33Speaker 4: of resources for this, believed that when a Nephilim died,
- 16:38Speaker 4: because it had a heavenly father and an earthly mother,
- 16:42Speaker 4: that it didn't belong either to earth or heaven. It
- 16:44Speaker 4: belongs somewhere in the middle in the air. Even Augustine
- 16:48Speaker 4: kind of talks about this and he denies the reality.
- 16:50Speaker 4: There's a wild in the city of God. But so
- 16:53Speaker 4: they believe that when an Nephilim dies, it becomes an
- 16:56Speaker 4: unclean spirit. And these are the entities Jesus is confronting
- 17:00Speaker 4: in his ministry.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Yeah, let's just stop there for a minute, because when
- 17:03Speaker 1: you read the Old Testament, it's pretty difficult to find
- 17:07Speaker 1: a demon. You know, there's a few places for sure
- 17:09Speaker 1: that are mentioned, but the Old Testament is a big book.
- 17:12Speaker 1: When you come to the New Testament, you're immediately like,
- 17:14Speaker 1: You know, Luke chapter 4, Matthew 8, like demons that
- 17:17Speaker 1: seem to be on every page. Like, where did these
- 17:19Speaker 1: come from? I don't read about it.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Why do I care?
- 17:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 1: And why were they attacking Jesus?
- 17:22Speaker 4: And that's the storyline. Well, first of all, they're the
- 17:24Speaker 4: only ones that seem to recognize who he is. And
- 17:28Speaker 4: they call him the Son of God, which gets to
- 17:29Speaker 4: what we just talked about in another episode on Battle
- 17:33Speaker 4: for the Bible's Truth. That the sons of God thing,
- 17:37Speaker 4: this is what Jesus is claiming to be a heavenly being. Well,
- 17:39Speaker 4: these are, they recognize him. And they're unclean spirits. According
- 17:43Speaker 4: to the Levitical law, unclean thing is something that's mixed.
- 17:47Speaker 4: It's a mixed kind. What's the mixture? Well, angelic and human.
- 17:53Speaker 4: And so Jesus is casting them out, which is the
- 17:57Speaker 4: same story that you're reading about in Enoch and in
- 18:00Speaker 4: the other literature that's circulating at the same time.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, to me, that's what I find fascinating is when
- 18:06Speaker 1: you show up in the New Testament. And again, we're
- 18:09Speaker 1: learning the theology here. I mean, there's Jesus reading in
- 18:11Speaker 1: the synagogue and boom, a demoniac arises or, you know, others,
- 18:16Speaker 1: they're naming him and they're challenging his mission.
- 18:20Speaker 4: And the timing of it, like, what are you doing
- 18:22Speaker 4: here now? I thought we had a little bit more time.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Yeah, don't send us, you know, don't send us to
- 18:28Speaker 1: the abyss before the time. So yeah, they're surprised, but
- 18:31Speaker 1: yet also you see Jesus coming and the crowd, even
- 18:37Speaker 1: the demons obey him. So it's showing the superiority of
- 18:41Speaker 1: him in everything, surely. And the storyline, too. Right.
- 18:44Speaker 4: So he's showing his superiority over them in his ministry.
- 18:49Speaker 4: But then it's ultimately his death where it's not just
- 18:52Speaker 4: the demons, but it's also the powers that are over them,
- 18:55Speaker 4: call them the fathers or whatever, that Jesus is crushing
- 18:59Speaker 4: their heads. He is, you know. The very center of
- 19:02Speaker 4: John's gospel is now will the ruler of this world
- 19:06Speaker 4: be cast out when the son of man is lifted up,
- 19:10Speaker 4: talking about his death. This becomes their legal defeat. They
- 19:15Speaker 4: no longer are able to have the kind of power
- 19:17Speaker 4: that they once had over people, which is why, first
- 19:20Speaker 4: of all, you see Gentiles starting to convert as soon
- 19:23Speaker 4: as Pentecost happens. And Paul makes comments about this, like
- 19:27Speaker 4: if they would have understood this, They never would have
- 19:29Speaker 4: crucified the Lord of Glory. Well, who's they? Well, it's
- 19:31Speaker 4: not just Herod and Pontius Pilate. It's the authorities and
- 19:36Speaker 4: the supernatural powers, the archons of this present age. Why
- 19:40Speaker 4: are they putting him to death? Because this was part
- 19:43Speaker 4: of the ultimate battle of the seed of the serpent
- 19:46Speaker 4: being crushed.
- 19:48Speaker 1: They got greedy.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. They thought that they were going to take
- 19:52Speaker 4: him out, and he ends up crushing their head at
- 19:54Speaker 4: that very moment.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yeah, this is the power of, again, of New Testament theology.
- 19:59Speaker 1: And again, the whole premise that, that's what I love
- 20:03Speaker 1: going deep, because giants, you think, okay, Genesis 6, but
- 20:06Speaker 1: it had so much powerful influence to the rest of,
- 20:09Speaker 1: of the Bible and even to the salvation that we
- 20:13Speaker 1: have ourselves. Well, we're going to take a little break
- 20:15Speaker 1: here where you can see how to get Doug's book
- 20:17Speaker 1: on giants as well. And to see, again, the power
- 20:20Speaker 1: of what's being spoken by the scripture. Nothing is haphazard.
- 20:23Speaker 1: God intends us to understand it all. And so take
- 20:26Speaker 1: a listen.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Forty years ago, you would have been hard pressed to
- 20:31Speaker 2: find anyone talking about Genesis 6. Then, men like Gary Stearman, J.R. Church,
- 20:36Speaker 2: Steve Quayle, and L.A. Marzulli began opening our eyes to
- 20:39Speaker 2: the genetic nightmare that unfolded before the flood of Noah.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Scripture tells us what happened. A group of rebellious.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Angels abandoned their heavenly dwelling, came to earth, and fathered
- 20:49Speaker 2: a race of hybrid giants. Yet, despite the clear language
- 20:53Speaker 2: of Genesis 6, several well-known theologians reject this interpretation in
- 20:58Speaker 2: favor of the Sethite theory, the belief that the sons
- 21:01Speaker 2: of Seth married the daughters of Cain. We reject that
- 21:04Speaker 2: ancient explanation for several compelling reasons, many of which Doug
- 21:08Speaker 2: addresses in his book, Giants, Sons of the Gods. And
- 21:12Speaker 2: consider the severity of God's judgment. The flood destroyed everything
- 21:16Speaker 2: that breathed upon the face of the earth.
- 21:18Speaker 3: This was no ordinary outbreak of human wickedness.
- 21:21Speaker 2: It was a satanic assault on humanity itself, men and
- 21:25Speaker 2: women created in the image of God. Giants, Sons of

- 21:42Speaker 2: Bible's Truth, examines evidence that ancient authorities altered portions of
- 21:47Speaker 2: the biblical text to deny the messianic qualifications of Jesus.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Doug presents his case for what happened and why it
- 21:54Speaker 2: still matters today. The Battle for the Bible's Truth is

- 23:13Speaker 2: Thank you for standing with us, believing in this mission,
- 23:16Speaker 2: and faithfully supporting the work of Prophecy Watchers.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Well, welcome back. We are with Doug Van Doren. And Doug,
- 23:24Speaker 1: some of the things you've done recently, so here you
- 23:27Speaker 1: have giants, the grand theology, but yet you just also
- 23:31Speaker 1: came out with another book, The Battle for the Bible's Truth,
- 23:33Speaker 1: where certainly the sons of God comes to play in that.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Give us a short synopsis of that.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Right. So the Genesis 6 event is dealing with these
- 23:43Speaker 4: sons of God creatures. That's their title, at least in
- 23:46Speaker 4: the Bible. They're called other things, other places like watchers
- 23:49Speaker 4: or angels or whatever. But There happened to be a
- 23:53Speaker 4: battle in the second century that was started by a
- 23:56Speaker 4: certain rabbi who placed a curse on anyone who would
- 24:00Speaker 4: call them sons of God, which is wild because that's
- 24:04Speaker 4: literally what the text calls them. So you're not allowed
- 24:07Speaker 4: to call them what the text calls them. You have
- 24:09Speaker 4: to call them what I tell you they are. And
- 24:12Speaker 4: he called them like sons of nobles or something like that.
- 24:15Speaker 4: So in that case, it was a conspiracy to change the,
- 24:21Speaker 4: universal meaning of what the sons of God are, that
- 24:25Speaker 4: actually then spreads to other texts, such as Deuteronomy 32, 8,
- 24:31Speaker 4: where they not only changed the meaning, but they changed
- 24:34Speaker 4: a word. They actually got rid of the word sons
- 24:37Speaker 4: of God, Elohim, and they replaced it with sons of Israel,
- 24:42Speaker 4: which isn't even close in the Hebrew or the Greek.
- 24:45Speaker 4: You find them dropping in some cases, like a they
- 24:50Speaker 4: drop out an entire sentence.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:53Speaker 4: That's just gone. That, that it appears in the Dead
- 24:56Speaker 4: Sea Scrolls.
- 24:56Speaker 1: And in Hebrew, the book of Hebrews, if you want
- 24:58Speaker 1: to read it. Yeah.
- 24:59Speaker 4: And in Hebrews, right. That's a great one because Hebrews
- 25:01Speaker 4: is quoting. It's like you go back and you read, dude,
- 25:03Speaker 4: it's not there.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Yep. Where did it go?
- 25:04Speaker 4: How, what happened? So yeah, there was a conspiracy, especially
- 25:09Speaker 4: surrounding this title sons of God. And the reason why
- 25:11Speaker 4: is because Jesus was claiming to be the son of God,
- 25:15Speaker 4: citing Psalm 82. And, uh, They knew exactly what he meant.
- 25:20Speaker 4: It was a supernatural title that hearkens back to these
- 25:23Speaker 4: angelic beings. And that's why Jesus is like, I came
- 25:27Speaker 4: from heaven. I was sent by my father to come
- 25:30Speaker 4: here as one of you, and I will be taken
- 25:33Speaker 4: back up, you know, and nobody else can do that
- 25:35Speaker 4: except for the son of God, you know? And well,
- 25:38Speaker 4: they wanted to kill him for blasphemy for saying it.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:40Speaker 1: And that's what the Doug's new book is phenomenal because
- 25:43Speaker 1: he documents this conspiracy more than anybody that has ever
- 25:46Speaker 1: seen before. which is great. And ultimately, it's not that
- 25:50Speaker 1: we can't trust the Bible, but it just reminds us that, again,
- 25:54Speaker 1: we have to do our homework. And there was a
- 25:56Speaker 1: specific goal to hide and obscure the nature of the
- 26:01Speaker 1: sons of God and Jesus, again, being the supreme, the
- 26:03Speaker 1: son of God, the unique one as it relates to
- 26:06Speaker 1: the gospel. So, I mean, as we wrap up here
- 26:08Speaker 1: in the last minute, you know, obviously you've written so
- 26:11Speaker 1: much on it. And what's your takeaway to the audience,
- 26:15Speaker 1: especially as a pastor? You know, they're hearing all this
- 26:17Speaker 1: and they're like, that's a little bit maybe over my head,
- 26:18Speaker 1: but what do you want them to grasp through all this?
- 26:21Speaker 4: You know, this is what just popped in my head
- 26:22Speaker 4: for this is how ironic it is that there was
- 26:26Speaker 4: a conspiracy among Jewish rabbis to destroy the ability of
- 26:32Speaker 4: their own people to see supernatural. And yet that crept
- 26:37Speaker 4: its way into the Christian church. And we too, because
- 26:41Speaker 4: of their evil plot, have in certain places de-supernaturalized the
- 26:47Speaker 4: very text that early Christians were using to prove that
- 26:50Speaker 4: Jesus is the Messiah to the point where we get
- 26:53Speaker 4: angry about this issue, thinking that you're a heretic or
- 26:58Speaker 4: something like that for talking about there being sons of God,
- 27:01Speaker 4: being angels in Genesis 6, not realizing that the origin
- 27:06Speaker 4: of their very belief does not come from the scripture.
- 27:09Speaker 4: It comes from an anti-Jesus doctrine. anger and hatred that
- 27:16Speaker 4: was so intolerant that it felt it needed to actually
- 27:20Speaker 4: change the text of Holy Scripture in certain places.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Amen, Doug. I appreciate your time. And this is really,
- 27:27Speaker 1: I find it fascinating. And as Doug said, it's very,
- 27:30Speaker 1: very sad because as we look at the Jewish people today,
- 27:33Speaker 1: Romans 11, 26 says, in the future, all Israel will
- 27:36Speaker 1: be saved. And so I do anticipate a revival of them,
- 27:39Speaker 1: but They have a big hurdle to get over because
- 27:42Speaker 1: of what has happened in, again, in I would say
- 27:45Speaker 1: rabbinic Judaism in hiding these things about who Jesus is,
- 27:49Speaker 1: what the Bible said he would be. And so at
- 27:52Speaker 1: the end of the day, we don't want to get
- 27:54Speaker 1: sucked into those same errors. So thanks for listening. Thanks
- 27:57Speaker 1: for your prayers and support for what we do here. Again,
- 28:00Speaker 1: at the end of the day, Jesus is Lord, and
- 28:02Speaker 1: that's what we want to promote, and that's what we
- 28:04Speaker 1: trust in. We'll catch you next time.
